- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. From the porch I'm sure you can
- 0:32hear in the background water and there is water, water
- 0:36everywhere. It's been.
- 0:37Pouring non-stop all day yesterday.
- 0:42I think it started Thursday evening.
- 0:44And currently our pond, which is about 1/4 of an acre and it's 11
- 0:51feet deep. So it's a pretty deep pond and
- 0:53it's it was here. We didn't put it in.
- 0:55It was here when we got our property.
- 0:57It is out of its banks and it is on the move and it is spreading.
- 1:03Our little bench that we have on the edge is underwater.
- 1:06I've got plants along the edge that are underwater.
- 1:09This is not the first time it's happened.
- 1:12I'm very aware that it can happen, but this one is on the
- 1:17move now and we've got another pond forming over by the girls
- 1:23in the chicken coop. They are completely safe.
- 1:26The sun is up. Well the sky is bright.
- 1:29But the the truth is I am not walking out there to open their
- 1:33main doors. Not because I would don't want
- 1:35to get wet and because I've been sick, but because more of them
- 1:39will stay inside and stay dry if I don't open those main doors up
- 1:43yet. So I've been watching on my
- 1:46little radar app on my phone and saying OK, I'm going to go out
- 1:49there. Looks like it's going to break
- 1:51in about 45 minutes and I'll be able to at least get a break and
- 1:54walk out there. Now what am I talking to you all
- 1:57about today? So here's something really
- 1:59interesting. For years I have fed the birds
- 2:02and I really started this whole thing off in honor of my mother
- 2:06because my mother always fed the birds and it reminds me of her
- 2:09and I love doing that and I love having the birds here.
- 2:13And I have bitched, that's the only word I can use, and moaned
- 2:18about all the different types of bird feeders that are out there
- 2:21because the food always gets wet.
- 2:22It doesn't stay dry, you know, And I feel like they're cheaply
- 2:26made. They are, you know, that whole,
- 2:28if you have never heard of it, there's this thing called
- 2:30planned obsolescence. People make products now to
- 2:34break, so you have to rebuy them.
- 2:36And it irritates the heck out of me because bird feeders, if
- 2:40you're not a bird feeder person, they get ruined very quickly.
- 2:44Now, is it because they're in the elements?
- 2:46Probably. But even when you go to a place
- 2:49like wild birds, the, the, what they build might be different,
- 2:55but it is not great. It doesn't protect the food that
- 2:59you put out there from getting wet.
- 3:00So like right now I can, I'm standing on my porch and I'm
- 3:04looking at the bird feeder and I can see that one of my Cardinals
- 3:07is sitting on the flight deck that has a, a cover and he's
- 3:11just staying out of the rain. Now here's what's interesting
- 3:14about this. I've never recognized.
- 3:17You don't usually see them hanging out when there's nothing
- 3:21there and he is literally hanging out staying out of the
- 3:25rain on this little flight deck. Now this flight deck.
- 3:28What drives me crazy about this quality made out of this
- 3:33melamine. I think it's like it's like a
- 3:35formed plastic, some type of melamine plastic or something.
- 3:40But anyway, so it's the roof of this thing is just covering.
- 3:45It just barely covers the deck where the food goes.
- 3:49So when it rains, you know, everything just blows in.
- 3:53And I'm sitting here and I've often been told multiple times
- 3:57by people that if you build a big covered area for them to
- 4:02come in, they will not come in because they need to see the
- 4:06feeders. And now here I am standing here.
- 4:09I can't go out to the chickens yet.
- 4:11I'm I'm in my creative head. I'm waiting to talk to all of
- 4:14you and I'm going what? What, Why would they believe
- 4:17that? Why would they believe such a
- 4:19thing? And I'm challenging all of those
- 4:21thoughts. Again.
- 4:22I've done this before, but now, now that I see that this bird is
- 4:26there, now that I see what's happening, there is no doubt in
- 4:29my mind I'm going to change my structure and my setup, and I am
- 4:33going to do it by myself because I can't find it.
- 4:37So this is going to become a fall project for me where I am
- 4:40going to redesign my bird feeder area and I'm going to give them
- 4:44some sort of a structure that they can come to and sit under
- 4:49even in the rain so that they don't have to get wet.
- 4:52And I'm going to figure this out.
- 4:54I have, I have, I brought you into the middle of a creative
- 4:58moment where I'm, my brain is on fire with how I can do this.
- 5:03And as far as these bird feeders go, I got to tell you if there's
- 5:08a person out there that designs bird feeders and wants feedback
- 5:13on it, please call me because please DM us, let us know
- 5:17because I'll tell you there are so many factors that these
- 5:21people miss. And I swear I, because I am so
- 5:27observant in what I do in my world, I could give a lot of
- 5:30great feedback to somebody to actually make one that would be
- 5:34stellar. So that's what we're about to
- 5:36do. We're about to go off on this
- 5:38tangent and we're to do this and I'm not putting it aside and I'm
- 5:41going to figure it out. So took you inside that rabbit
- 5:44hole with me for a moment and it came out to this conclusion.
- 5:47Don't give up on your thoughts because somehow when you have
- 5:51those creative thoughts and you see that that it's born out of,
- 5:54there's something not working, Always pay attention to it
- 5:57because one, it's fun to be that creative, and two, there's a
- 6:01chance to fix it. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:04you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:06Bye.
