- 0:00There. We go, there we go.
- 0:02We're now recording and I'm very lucky to be here right now.
- 0:06Oh. Is that so?
- 0:08Did you have a near death experience?
- 0:11Oh, sort of. I forgot what day it was and I
- 0:16decided I was going to go to the movies and see 28 years later.
- 0:20Oh, OK. I was about to buy my ticket and
- 0:23then I saw the time it started and I went.
- 0:25Am I meant to be doing something with that star?
- 0:28And then I race back home. Welcome to Multiple Nerdgasm
- 0:35with your hosts Matt, Luke and Dan.
- 0:39Multiple Nerdgasm. Your guide to all things nerdy.
- 0:51That said, I'm almost disappointed because I really
- 0:54want to hear if that's good because it.
- 0:56Yes. Looks good and I definitely want
- 0:58it to be good. And it's shot on iPhones again.
- 1:02Well, I saw an interview with Danny Boyle the other day.
- 1:06Bits of it are shot on iPhone, he he said.
- 1:09That's been blown a little bit out of proportion.
- 1:11It was shot on a lot of cameras. Yeah, OK.
- 1:14That makes sense, but I mean the.
- 1:15First one was shot on like a fucking Canon X1 or something
- 1:19that's like in like 720P well. His he said his thing is that he
- 1:23likes to be very portable. And in particular he said for
- 1:26this movie they went to locations that the whole point
- 1:31was to show what you know, the the world would be like
- 1:35untouched by humans for however many years or whatever.
- 1:39And he's 28. Drag a whole.
- 1:41Right. Yeah, they're very specific
- 1:43actually. My bad.
- 1:46So the drag a whole film crew in there, that causes a fucking
- 1:49disaster for the area. So they just tried to avoid
- 1:53doing that and that's why they chose made particular choices
- 1:56for certain things and one of them was an iPhone for certain
- 1:58things. There was, I seen a picture
- 2:00which is they're claiming a poor man's bullet Cam.
- 2:04Yeah, which is like 13 brand new of the latest iPhones.
- 2:08I'm sort of like, you know, poor if you're buying 13 of them.
- 2:11Yeah, it's like. That's right. 20 grands worth of
- 2:14phone. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:17Like the poor being one is you have 1:00 and you're just using
- 2:20the basic slow MO function on it.
- 2:22That's the poor being what? The freeze and you just like
- 2:24around them. Yeah, that's right.
- 2:27Well, I've done it where you get someone to jump and then you
- 2:30move the camera slightly to the left, then you get them to jump
- 2:33again, you move the camera slightly to the left, and then
- 2:35you just take the highest frame of their jump from every single
- 2:40frame. It doesn't look good, but you
- 2:44know. That's right.
- 2:47Yeah, that's the poor man. Slow MO.
- 2:49Yeah, that's right. I'll let you know next.
- 2:54Week I trust him. I'll let you know next week.
- 2:57Yeah. We're gonna go tomorrow now.
- 2:58Saying that, I remember the first 128 Days Later came out on
- 3:03DVD in the UK before it was out at the cinema here, because that
- 3:07was 25 years ago and that's still just how shit happened
- 3:09there. And an Old Mutual friend of
- 3:12ours, Greg, brought me a copy because he went to the UK,
- 3:15brought me the British DVD back, and I'd watched it like a good
- 3:20year or two before it even came out of the cinema here.
- 3:22Yeah. Here's something do you think
- 3:24Star Wars was one of the first ones to do the worldwide
- 3:27release? Phantom Menace, you mean?
- 3:31Like, yeah, The Phantom Menace, where they were just like that
- 3:33came out the same time everywhere.
- 3:35It was the same day. Because I remember I was, I
- 3:40really wanted to see Hellboy and it took fucking forever for that
- 3:43to come out in Australia. And that's not even that old
- 3:46like. Damn, you know what I haven't
- 3:47seen? Is that new Hellboy?
- 3:48The one like set? Oh yeah, like Victorian London
- 3:51or whatever it is. That looked funny, right?
- 3:54I've heard it's not good. Really.
- 3:56OK, let me let me just see if it's I know then some different
- 4:02computer. Just quickly while we're talking
- 4:04about Danny Boyle, because there was a thing in last week that we
- 4:07didn't get to, it's actually touches on 2 favourites of the
- 4:11of the podcast is Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.
- 4:15Yes. Sunshine, which is, yes, I think
- 4:19a fucking amazing movie that right, that people don't seem to
- 4:22know about very much is Danny Boyle movie.
- 4:26It's Danny Ball, right? Yeah, I'm not crazy.
- 4:27Yeah, it is. No, yeah, Danny Ball.
- 4:29Yeah, I did that, but literally. Killian Murphy in it, who wasn't
- 4:31famous at the time but is now. Correct.
- 4:33It's got Chris Evans in it as well.
- 4:35Does it see? I wouldn't have known who he was
- 4:36when I saw that. And Benedict Wong, I think, is
- 4:39in it, too. Oh yeah, who?
- 4:41Also, you would not have. Killian, the guy that's on the
- 4:44ship. Yes.
- 4:48Like the Yeah, the one that's yeah.
- 4:50They're all on the ship. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:52But the one like that's been on and dosing himself with sunlight
- 4:55and. No, no, no, no.
- 4:57No, not him. No.
- 4:58No, somebody else. It's been a long time since I've
- 5:01seen it. Yeah, me too.
- 5:04I'm not trying to. Watch one in this or did I make
- 5:06that up? Winedict.
- 5:09No, he is. He is.
- 5:10No, he isn't it he there? Oh yeah.
- 5:12But the point was that Sunshine was apparently supposed to be a
- 5:14trilogy. And.
- 5:16Really. And it just didn't do well
- 5:18enough for them to do anything else.
- 5:21And in the interview was asking Danny Boyle what was going to
- 5:23happen in the other ones. And he said, well, I don't want
- 5:25to tell you because Alex Garland might want to do something.
- 5:27Might write a book. Or that material yeah, because
- 5:30he had some he had some he thinks really, really cool ideas
- 5:33for stuff for the the later books or later movies and so oh
- 5:37OK Bum that never happened because.
- 5:40Yeah. I fucking love that.
- 5:42Absolutely. Yeah, that's.
- 5:45One of these movies had a better afterlife than it did on
- 5:48release. Yeah, it seems that way.
- 5:50Yeah. It just didn't get it, I
- 5:52suppose. Trying to remember.
- 5:53If I went to the cinema or if I saw it on DVD.
- 5:56I saw it later. I just didn't, yeah, it just
- 5:58wasn't on my radar. Was marketed particularly well.
- 6:03That's what it sounds like I see.
- 6:06And this was before I was really paying attention to Alex Garland
- 6:09either. Now I'd be much more likely to
- 6:12say, oh, if he's written it, I'm definitely going.
- 6:15To see it I did not. Until this I didn't know he
- 6:17wrote it. Yeah, like, yeah.
- 6:20Until this article, I was like, oh fuck, that was it's going.
- 6:22It explains why it's great, but it is odd.
- 6:26So I get why maybe, yes, you know, with the yeah, you're like
- 6:31Luke mentioned, the guy who's dosing himself with sunlight as
- 6:34they get closer and he goes weird and then it gets quite
- 6:38weird. Yeah, I love that genre though,
- 6:42of that doomed crew trapped on a ship one way, one way ticket
- 6:48kind of genre of sci-fi. I do enjoy it as well, like the
- 6:54core and stuff like that. I put Event Horizon up there.
- 6:58It's not quite the same, but you know, just same this
- 7:00claustrophobic. Sure.
- 7:04Yeah. Go watch that again.
- 7:07That's some good shit, yeah. That fucking quote from we
- 7:12talked about this not long ago. You know, they they filmed the
- 7:14sequences that take place in hell and then somebody that talk
- 7:19that thing about how it was like second unit or something.
- 7:22And then someone came over into the main shoot and they were
- 7:25like, there's some fucked up shit going on over there.
- 7:29I think maybe somebody needs to check on that.
- 7:31Crew. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:33They may have. Because how do you feel?
- 7:34Hell. And and also it's just flash
- 7:37frames, you know, So really there's there's very few things
- 7:41I could even name right now that I remember.
- 7:43I could name one thing, it's. The one thing?
- 7:46Someone getting someone getting sodomized, That's definitely one
- 7:51of the frames. Yeah, right.
- 7:52I remember maggots on something. I don't remember the sodomy.
- 7:57Well, maybe it's very my go to. What, did I rape you while we
- 8:02watched that movie? Maybe you're.
- 8:03You've had Probably, yeah. I saw a movie this week.
- 8:14I went to the movie. Let me guess.
- 8:15You watched Sinners for the third time.
- 8:18I probably will do that, but I didn't.
- 8:20I went to the movies and I saw Mission Impossible Final
- 8:25Reckoning because I had to. Yeah.
- 8:29Because it may or may not be the final one.
- 8:31We'll see. Just another Mission Impossible
- 8:33movie where he runs. Well, I mean, this, it looks
- 8:38like it's a lot of stunts. It's marketed for just being
- 8:41stunts at this point. It's disappointingly few stunts
- 8:46in my Really, it's not. I'm trying to remember.
- 8:49I can remember one well, so the. 1st.
- 8:55Big stunt that I ever call, like the big the biplane thing, which
- 8:59is in all the trailers and everybody knows that he did
- 9:01that. That's the thing that he did for
- 9:03this one. It was the biplane thing.
- 9:04And it's like that's in there and I'm trying to think what
- 9:07else is there? Oh, this the submarine bit.
- 9:10Yeah, I guess that's stunts. But I don't.
- 9:13Know how much it was real or not.
- 9:15More movie than stunt now because it really felt like it
- 9:17was. Yeah, my big problem with it
- 9:20really is so they, so I found the plot of it continues the
- 9:25plot of the previous one, which I found to be like the plot was
- 9:28underwhelming because it was an excuse to sticky tape action
- 9:32sequences together for Tom Cruise to do things.
- 9:34And then this one, it's kind of like they had to level set
- 9:38because I guess they knew I were going to wrap this up.
- 9:40And it is kind of convoluted now because it starts with OK, it
- 9:48starts with the whole little montage about it's the start of
- 9:51the movie. Like it's all about Ethan and
- 9:55like it's got more previous movie.
- 9:58No, but, but that's the that's the problem I have with this is
- 10:01that it, it, oh, it turns out it's all about Ethan.
- 10:03And it always has been. And everything that's ever
- 10:06happened is always it's all been here.
- 10:07It's. Like the end of Spectre, where
- 10:09it's like everyone's, this is all for you, Bond.
- 10:12Yeah, exactly. It's like, do we have?
- 10:14Does it have to be? Can't he just be a hero in
- 10:17happens to be involved in these things wise always have to be
- 10:20about. Because the thing about the
- 10:22original, not the original, it was a series.
- 10:25But you know, the first Mission Impossible movie.
- 10:27Yeah. Oliver Stone was Oliver Stone.
- 10:32No. Brian De Palma.
- 10:33Brian, De. Palma, right?
- 10:34Yes. There are stunts in it.
- 10:38There's the train, there's hanging down.
- 10:40Yeah, on the, you know, the above the floor.
- 10:43But that's not why it's a good movie.
- 10:45It's a good movie because it is probably the best espionage
- 10:49thriller ever written. Like, it's so good.
- 10:53The dialogue is good, the the plot is good, everything about
- 10:57it's good. And then the sequels are up and
- 10:59down because two, say what you want about it.
- 11:02Yeah, that was your point of view.
- 11:03But it's fucking garbage. 3 was. Brilliant because they went back
- 11:07to its roots. I'm glad and they like 3 because
- 11:10they talk about it quite a bit in this.
- 11:13Well, that's because this is all about Ethan, right?
- 11:15But that's what I liked about 3 was they raised the stakes, but
- 11:18it wasn't because the world was going to blow up.
- 11:19It was because someone was going to kill his wife.
- 11:22So, right, the stakes were high, but just for him.
- 11:25And that worked, yeah. Well, there is A and.
- 11:27Then the next one they're. Like there's a mystery box.
- 11:29Blown up. OK, yes and that Muscat blew up
- 11:32because they were trying to kill Ethan Yes and they mentioned.
- 11:37Just kept escalating and escalating, much like the Fast
- 11:39and Furious movies. But they show like montage at
- 11:42the start and he's it's and it's like it's all very, it's really
- 11:45on the nose. And it put me right off at the
- 11:48beginning because it's basically like he's gone off grid and he
- 11:52doesn't want to be involved. And then the president of the
- 11:54United States has just sent him this video message that's
- 11:58explaining to him who he is and what he's done.
- 12:02And it's like, I know it's for the audience, but that couldn't
- 12:05have been written any better. And less obviously just a
- 12:08fucking infant. Like, why is he there going?
- 12:10Yeah, I did do that. Like, yeah, like, you know, it's
- 12:15weird. This is where you need someone
- 12:16like Edgar Wright. You can progress the story.
- 12:19Yeah, yeah, he wouldn't waste any time, would he?
- 12:24And yeah, there's a lot of flashbacks to stuff that
- 12:27happened, like particularly Mission Apostle 3 is actually
- 12:29quite important to this in a way that is kind of annoying because
- 12:33doesn't actually make sense. But I can see why they tried to
- 12:36do that. They tried to tie in a lot of
- 12:40actually. There's other stuff.
- 12:41Do you care about spoilers? No.
- 12:44No, All right, let's just skip ahead you mentioned.
- 12:47The the the stealing of the knock list, right?
- 12:51Remember that guy, that guy, that's the guy who built the,
- 12:55the what is it the black room or whatever it is?
- 12:57The the guy who walks in in the in the night with the coffee.
- 13:00Yeah, he's in this. He's in this what?
- 13:02He's in this. He becomes the fucking main
- 13:05character the. Fucking terminal user of that
- 13:08computer. No, he's the he designed the
- 13:10room and then he got fired and he got sent to fucking Siberia
- 13:15to the place that they where they happen to need to go to get
- 13:18something in this. And then he joins the team.
- 13:22So he's in it. And then also remember the
- 13:24rabbits foot from Mission Impossible 3.
- 13:26Yes, yeah. That's in it as well.
- 13:28Yeah. Turns out they found yeah.
- 13:32Which do you have? Any more information about what
- 13:34the rabbit's foot is then they. Find out what it was and then
- 13:38and then it's conveniently like JJ.
- 13:40Completely. We can just completely.
- 13:42Different to what was heavily implied in in that movie, which
- 13:45is that it was some kind of biological or nuclear weapon,
- 13:48right? It's a JJ Abrams thing.
- 13:49So it was like, yeah, you don't need to tell.
- 13:51You but you knew it was a a weapon of mass.
- 13:53It's a threat, correct? It's not.
- 13:57It's a bit different, Yeah, despite all the.
- 14:00Visual Nations. In that fucking movie that they
- 14:03still show you the shots and it's like that's clearly coded
- 14:06as a biological weapon of some sort anyway.
- 14:09Mind you, they don't tell you what the knock list is either.
- 14:11You just have to know that knock stands for non official cover.
- 14:14They do say that. It's a list of of agents I
- 14:17think. I think they do say that, they
- 14:19just don't explain what knock is.
- 14:20Sometimes that's all you need. This is bad.
- 14:23Yeah, that's right. You don't need to know the
- 14:26specific details. We need to stop that from
- 14:28happening. Fine, let's go on the ride.
- 14:31That's why Raiders of the Lost Ark is the perfect movie,
- 14:34because he says you've got to go get the Ark, and he goes, why?
- 14:36And he goes because the Nazis want it.
- 14:38In the conversation, we've got to get it.
- 14:41The audience understands, the character understands.
- 14:43We don't want the Nazis to get a magical thing.
- 14:46Yep, says the plot of Oppenheimer.
- 14:48Yes. It is the Raiders of the Lost
- 14:52Bomb. Can I segue just for one SEC to
- 14:56say something that actually I realized this week really
- 14:58irritates me about how Raisa Lost Ark is presented now on
- 15:02streaming to match the other films.
- 15:05It's now called Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- 15:09That's wrong. He is a Raider of the Lost Ark.
- 15:13It's not. And the him and the Nazis are
- 15:17trying to raid the Lost Ark. That's that's the point.
- 15:20You can't say he's not one anyway.
- 15:23Belongs in a museum. Can you show for us?
- 15:29He skipped over that part. So this mission possible, it's
- 15:34got a lot of flashbacks. It frustrated me in that I don't
- 15:37know, not everybody will have just watched them all like last
- 15:40year like I did. But I didn't need the constant
- 15:43like constant re flashings of like when that guy shows up,
- 15:47right? He walks into the room and I was
- 15:48like, oh fuck, it's that guy. But then it was like, remember
- 15:51this guy? He's a bunch of foot and it's
- 15:53like, no, no, no, I knew it. Was literal flashbacks.
- 15:56And I feel like yes, literal flashbacks and I feel like
- 15:59there's a lot of this movie knows they knew that this was
- 16:03could be potentially very confusing.
- 16:06I wonder if they did test screenings and people are
- 16:08simpler than fuck is going there is literally.
- 16:10But it's not just that though. There's literally stuff in this
- 16:15where it will show you something somebody said 5 minutes ago in
- 16:19this movie, in case you forgot. And I was like what the fuck?
- 16:23But there's literally a bit where a villain says something
- 16:27about. Focus group stuff there.
- 16:29Right. Like if I say like, I can
- 16:31imagine I'm gonna make something up, right?
- 16:34We're in a we're in a movie and I lock you guys in a room and I
- 16:36go, I'm locking the door and the key isn't flushed down the
- 16:39toilet and no one's ever gonna be able to open the door again.
- 16:41Nonsense, right? But then you guys are talking
- 16:43and then you're like, how am I gonna get out of here?
- 16:45And then it flashes back to me going, I'll flush the key down
- 16:47the toilet. You're never gonna get out.
- 16:49And then and you're both gonna. Get out of here down the toilet.
- 16:52Yeah, right. Like, it's like, yeah, but I
- 16:53remember I was watching a movie. You showed me when he.
- 16:56When he said that. But look, I can give him a bit
- 16:59of a pass for the flashback of the guy from Mission Impossible
- 17:013, because that came out in 2006, yes?
- 17:04So no one's got to remember that, sorry.
- 17:08That guy's from the first impossible. 1/19/97.
- 17:12Yeah, the magazines from three. So for that type of stuff, I
- 17:16think he'd give a little bit of a pass for that.
- 17:20It's an Evil Dead mug. It's an army of darkness.
- 17:23It is a it's a It's an army of dark chocolate, coffee
- 17:30flavoured. Me and Daniel.
- 17:31Get a flavoured coffee mug. Evil Dead the Musical next year
- 17:34one. 100% I will go and see anything the musical, but this
- 17:39year will definitely, definitely go and see.
- 17:41What we need to do I because I know someone who's been to see
- 17:44it before, we need to get the most expensive tickets to be in
- 17:47the splash zone. I was going to make a joke about
- 17:51getting covered in blood but it sounds like that maybe isn't a
- 17:53joke. OK, I'm all.
- 17:54In like when I saw Gua at Soundwave.
- 17:57Oh. Shit.
- 18:00Got. Got sprayed, got got bodily
- 18:02something on you. Yeah, it's got something,
- 18:04something sprayed on me. Yeah.
- 18:05Yeah, I've seen footage of Rammstein comment concerts where
- 18:08people also bladed bodily fluid, but it wasn't blood.
- 18:11It wasn't blood, Matt. I do like the Mission Impossible
- 18:14because I'll see this, I've realized recently.
- 18:17It's not bad or anything. I.
- 18:18Didn't see the previous one right.
- 18:20I realized I hadn't seen it. So I thought, OK, I'll, I'll
- 18:23watch it. I was going to pop it on during
- 18:25the day because I thought I don't know.
- 18:28I, I, I don't know. I forget between them how much I
- 18:30like them and how, how good they are even when they're not good,
- 18:33right? So I put it on.
- 18:34I watched the first scene on the submarine where they they
- 18:37essentially shoot themselves with a with a fucking missile
- 18:40and I was like, this is fucking awesome.
- 18:42I can turn this off because I want to watch properly at night.
- 18:46So commit. Yeah.
- 18:47Yeah, what a way to start a movie.
- 18:49What a great opening scene. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:52Yeah, I'm not. Watching both these and then
- 18:54I'll. Watch next yeah look, this is
- 18:56good. I think I was mostly just
- 18:57disappointed because I honestly Mission Impossible fallout is
- 19:02still the king in my opinion. And then I mean I.
- 19:05Believe I forget all their. Names because their names.
- 19:07To be the case, nothing, but that's the.
- 19:08One with Henry Cavill. Yeah, and I just think they've
- 19:12not since 2 cents, but I don't think since then they've managed
- 19:16to top the just the action sequences and the and the pacing
- 19:21of that movie. The pacing of it is great.
- 19:23Like this one. I feel like it just slows down
- 19:25too much in bits. And then this, the action just
- 19:28never really gets to the level of like Fallout, just like that
- 19:31helicopter sequence at the end in in.
- 19:33It's just really good because they're too, I think they too
- 19:37focus too much on the fact of doing a real life stunt that is
- 19:40very dangerous. Like that motorbike stunt in the
- 19:42one in in in was Dead Reckoning. Part 1 You could have told me
- 19:47that he was sitting on a green box and they put everything in.
- 19:50I'll be like, fine, I'm just watching the finished movie.
- 19:53It's just that the stunt is great and it all that, but it's
- 19:56just compared to just those shots of the fucking cameras on
- 19:59the side of the helicopter and like it's, I guess, yeah, I
- 20:03don't know. This is just to keep Tom Cruise
- 20:06happy, though. Yeah, it.
- 20:09Is yeah, when somebody asked Brad Pitt this week if he'd do
- 20:13another movie with Tom Cruise, he said I would, but I'm not
- 20:15jumping off a fucking aeroplane, so.
- 20:17Well, The thing is, Tom Cruise won't let him to move with Henry
- 20:21Cavill. He wants to do the Halo jump.
- 20:23That's. Right.
- 20:24He's got like I'm training, I'm ready to go.
- 20:26I want to do the Halo jump and he's gone.
- 20:28No, you can't do it because like everyone here used to be
- 20:31training, like something happens, it's going to affect
- 20:33the film. Now watch me do it.
- 20:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cavill is good in that movie,
- 20:38though. And the fight Cavill.
- 20:39Is a. Fucking tank, that's what.
- 20:41I mean, he's just. He's so big and so fucking
- 20:45muscular that you just, he can't.
- 20:47He can just hit you way harder than you can hit him.
- 20:50That movie's just great. That's got, I mean, Vesa Kirby's
- 20:53great in it. She's not in this one,
- 20:55unfortunately, because spoilers, she's just not in anymore.
- 21:03Yeah. Everything about that one is
- 21:04just is it's the best one. Simon Pegg's got a good amount
- 21:09of stuff to do. He's got too much to do in this
- 21:11new one. Yes.
- 21:13The ones where they don't know what to do with him, so they
- 21:14just constantly cut back to him. It's like, come on.
- 21:17Yes, yeah. I like Simon Pegg.
- 21:21I love Simon Pegg away. And I love that he's in these
- 21:24but. Yeah.
- 21:25But his character, I don't know, it's just his trajectory is just
- 21:29a bit odd to me. And then like in the later ones,
- 21:32like I said that, yeah, like you said, they couldn't really find
- 21:34anything to do with him, so they had to kind of change his
- 21:37character to make him more of an action.
- 21:39Kind of guy, yeah. He's in the field now, yeah.
- 21:42He's not an action guy. No, but I mean he does fine,
- 21:47it's just. Although, but I'm thinking like
- 21:49maybe this is a little bit slower because Tom Cruise is
- 21:51getting older as well. So maybe they're trying to it's.
- 21:56Going to have to slow down eventually, right?
- 21:58Yeah, this forever. Which is the one where Simon
- 22:02Peggs got the bomb on him? Is that rogue nation or is that
- 22:07for a fallout? So.
- 22:09Here's the thing Rogue Nation for they don't mean anything.
- 22:12Because that's the best Simon Pegg stuff in Mission
- 22:15Impossible. Is that where he's, he's like
- 22:17the hapless kind of tech guy. He's he's he's a field agent,
- 22:20but he's not great at it. Yeah.
- 22:22And now he's got a. He's a.
- 22:23Field agent, but just he's most he's supposed to be in a van
- 22:26with a with a laptop. Yeah, he's, he's a tech guy
- 22:29that's sort of watching and that's the you need to go here.
- 22:32Yeah, the Emilio Estevez character from the first one,
- 22:36you know that he's in the field, but he's there to to offer
- 22:40Technical Support. I forget which one that was in,
- 22:43but that was the that's the peak of his character, I think is
- 22:48that's when. I oh God, I'm just watching.
- 22:50I'm just looking at the thing for Mission Impossible Three.
- 22:53Ethan Hunt was forced out of retirement back then.
- 22:57Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 23:00Yeah, 'cause he's a convenience store and someones like we're
- 23:02gonna fuck your wife up and he's out.
- 23:05Yeah, but I don't know, it's been like 20 years.
- 23:07Maybe you've had another time to retire at that time.
- 23:10No escalate the way he is. He's gone rogue, he's been ghost
- 23:15protocoled, he's been bucking everything.
- 23:18Yeah. They, they talk about that
- 23:22meeting in this new one with the fucking president and all the
- 23:25heads of the military and they're like this guy.
- 23:27And then they just do this big montage the.
- 23:29President is a character in this movie.
- 23:31Yeah. Who plays him?
- 23:34Her. Oh, I've been put in my place,
- 23:38haven't I? President Machine.
- 23:41Impossible. I don't know the actress's name.
- 23:43I recognize her, but I don't. Erica Sloan is the president,
- 23:48portrayed by Angela Bassett. Oh, OK, great.
- 23:55Cool. Yeah, anyway, it's not a bad
- 24:00movie, like I said, just it's good.
- 24:02It's entertaining, certainly insane, and certainly other
- 24:04people in the theatre enjoyed it more than I did, because
- 24:06afterwards they're all in there. Yeah, they're just fucking sick.
- 24:08And I was like, yeah, that's right.
- 24:10I think you, I think because you sat down and you rewatched them
- 24:13all, I think that may have taken a bit of a way.
- 24:14Yeah, you might have ruled yourself without.
- 24:16You might have, yeah. Yeah, I think, I think it's just
- 24:18that I like Fallout so much that it's not they can't, they can't
- 24:21top it. That's just that.
- 24:24Was that's the one way back in the 50s, there was a nuclear
- 24:26bomb and then he woke up in a vault.
- 24:27Yeah, that's mission. Possible fallout?
- 24:29Yeah. Mission possible.
- 24:30Fallout, Yeah. The original.
- 24:31Vault he has to get the water chip.
- 24:33Yeah, yeah. And he makes friends with a
- 24:35mutant who run at the end goes this is on, this is your story
- 24:39told. Couldn't you just reach it and
- 24:43get it unharmed? Played by Bing Rhames, yes.
- 24:47I'd like to help you out of that, Matthew.
- 24:49You joke. I would be all in for that.
- 24:54Here's an interesting fact. It's not a fact.
- 24:58What is it? Tidbit, tidbit, tidbit.
- 25:02The tits. Tits It's not about this screen
- 25:07writing trend or not. Cliche, what am I trying to say?
- 25:12A trope Stream writing screen writing trope.
- 25:16If a character explains a plan, the plan has to go wrong.
- 25:22If the plan goes right, then it's been kept secret and at the
- 25:26end they said how did you do it? Yeah.
- 25:28Sure. No movie deviates from that.
- 25:31If someone tells you what they're going to do, it goes
- 25:34wrong because it's not interesting to see someone do
- 25:37something they've just told you. And then you've got the Ocean's
- 25:39movie that do both. Yes, and simultaneously, that's
- 25:44the one that immediately came to my mind too.
- 25:46Yeah. Yeah, but because I'll tell you
- 25:48and then it does go wrong, and then they'll tell you it went
- 25:50wrong. But this was the actual plan in
- 25:52the background. So exactly.
- 25:54Sherlock does that as well for the Sherlock show.
- 25:56Sherlock will tell Watson what he's going to do, but that'll
- 25:59fuck up somehow, and something else will happen.
- 26:01But then that music will do you'll, you'll kick back in
- 26:05that, oh, hold on, Sherlock knew all along.
- 26:07And then Sherlock will go. Well, of course I knew he was
- 26:09going to be there and he'd fall for that, you know?
- 26:12But doesn't he do it with like information that's not shared
- 26:15with the audience? Yes, that's that show.
- 26:19Yeah, it's not just the show. I'm I'm listening to the audio
- 26:21book of the original stories. They're all like that.
- 26:24It's like and the and the killer was this person we've not
- 26:26introduced yet. How do I know it's this evidence
- 26:31that I didn't tell you about? Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 26:34I found this signed confession. Yeah.
- 26:38Well, it's no, it's more like, well, I noticed that he had red
- 26:42dust on his boots that can only come from Bristol.
- 26:46And I just happened to have been in Bristol and it's like, oh,
- 26:48OK, well how fucking convenient for you and that.
- 26:51Was this? How was I, the reader, to deduce
- 26:55that in any way? Yeah, because that's the most.
- 27:00Of course. I mean.
- 27:01Stuff I would never have thought of.
- 27:03I mean, clearly the book's very successful, but I do think it
- 27:07is. Beautifully.
- 27:08And the characters. Are great, but I think the best
- 27:10way is for the give the audience a chance to figure it out first
- 27:15and then you can. Well, I believe that Britain
- 27:17would have and gone. Yeah, right, right.
- 27:19I see. That I should have known.
- 27:21They were also written at a very different time.
- 27:24Yeah. True.
- 27:26Before any of these tropes had been set up, sure.
- 27:28Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I re watched an old movie
- 27:33this week. A movie that I remembered being
- 27:39very good, right? Star Wars.
- 27:42It's not Star Wars, but we can talk about Star Wars too.
- 27:46I watched. Craig streaming it as to not to.
- 27:48Mortal Kombat from 1995 because in my head on.
- 27:53Track. That was, Yeah.
- 27:55Well, they know you love it, Luke, and they fucking that will
- 27:58just pump that music throughout the entire film.
- 28:00I know that sort of soundtrack is but, but just that one track
- 28:05that literally has clips, audio clips from the arcade game in
- 28:09it. Brilliant.
- 28:12But I remember this being a better movie than it is.
- 28:14I'll admit. I'll admit.
- 28:16That is also Speaking of the Horizon is also a Paul Anderson
- 28:20movie. Sorry.
- 28:22Yes, yes, that's true. Yeah, but have you seen the most
- 28:27recent model called Bat Movie? Recent from about five years ago
- 28:31or is there? A new one.
- 28:33That one it was way better than it had any right to be.
- 28:37That was a great movie. Good.
- 28:38I think there's a sequel coming. Really good, yes.
- 28:40That's why I thought, is it out yet or not?
- 28:41But yeah, that one was very good, yeah.
- 28:44Yeah, yeah, the original 1. Very campy.
- 28:47Yeah. So I don't remember it being
- 28:50this camp, mind you. It is like a time capsule of mid
- 28:5490s cool. Like just stuff that was cool,
- 28:58you know, zooming into someone's face as they take off their
- 29:01sunglasses and say one liner type of stuff, you know?
- 29:05Is it like Mission Impossible too?
- 29:08Yeah, like Mission Impossible too.
- 29:10Yeah, yeah. He throws the Oakleys and they
- 29:14explode and into the. Camera, yeah.
- 29:17Brilliant. I watched ATV show that you
- 29:25would both like I assume and then I found out that this is
- 29:28apparently a franchise I was not aware.
- 29:30I don't know if I mentioned this before on the shows a program
- 29:34called Last One Laughing, have you?
- 29:37Seen it? Oh yes, love it.
- 29:38Is it British? The one I watched is British,
- 29:41but there is. I think.
- 29:42That many, many, many. I think it actually started in
- 29:45Mexico, but there's the Australian one, there's a
- 29:47British one, there's a lot of different versions of it.
- 29:50There's an Australian one. Yep, I.
- 29:52Won't watch that a couple of people that we we we know
- 29:57tangentially on there that's why they.
- 29:59Want to watch it? It's less by Rebel.
- 30:01It's. Even less funny I say, that
- 30:03you've just talked. To me, right, right out.
- 30:04See, I reckon. What's the British one?
- 30:06I reckon I could have done a better job than some of the
- 30:08people on the Australian one, honestly.
- 30:10I just haven't seen it, OK. Yeah, what?
- 30:12What is with Australian comedians?
- 30:13Honestly? Some of whom I quite like, but
- 30:17they're the ones. That are listening to this show
- 30:18right now going fuck. Yeah.
- 30:20Yeah, no, but if you're listening, it's not you that I
- 30:22hate. It's.
- 30:23Not you, but it's weird, but a lot of the big Australian comedy
- 30:27communities that I like are the ones that are big in the UK.
- 30:31Yes. Because they've got that type of
- 30:34humor. And did you watch the UK like
- 30:37version of this though? Fuck it's good.
- 30:40It's so good it's gone. Celebrity guests saw the same
- 30:42cast each week. No, no, it's 1/6 hour block.
- 30:47So basically the premise is they get 8 comedians and they've
- 30:51they're in, I think it's six hours total.
- 30:53They get they'd lock them in a room.
- 30:55The UK once hosted by Jimmy Carr, they lock them in a room,
- 30:59they lock them in a room and it's basically like they're not
- 31:01allowed to laugh. Laugh.
- 31:03And shit. And if they laugh?
- 31:06They got to make each other laugh.
- 31:07Oh fuck yes. Yeah, they each have a special
- 31:10presentation they're supposed to do.
- 31:12They have to do like a performance.
- 31:13As part of it write this down because I want to look.
- 31:17This up generally it's, it's Jim Carr and it's got, yeah, it's
- 31:21got Bob Mortimer in it, who is just a fucking.
- 31:25I love Bob Mortimer. He just gets rich.
- 31:26Funnier and funnier the older he gets.
- 31:28He's so good, Mortimer. The new one, yes, he's like from
- 31:34a bunch of sketch shows, but he's mostly, I know him from
- 31:39what I Lie to You, where he's just fucking incredible.
- 31:43Richie Richard Yadi from You know, IT crowd and all that
- 31:50fucking. I can't remember anybody else's
- 31:51name. I know them all because I see
- 31:58them. I know, I just know them all
- 31:59visually from like, oh Sarah Pasco.
- 32:03Lou Sanders. Joe Wilkinson.
- 32:06Wilkinson. Oh yeah.
- 32:09Rob Beckett, Joe Lysett, Joe Lysett Fan.
- 32:14No. No, I don't know something about
- 32:18him, but Rob Beckett, Joe Wilkinson, I love.
- 32:23He's basically me. I'm kept and drunk.
- 32:28Yeah, Anyway, you got to. Watch this.
- 32:30Yes, I know who he is. Yeah, he's fantastic.
- 32:33From Afterlife, the mailman from Afterlife and actually and the
- 32:38prostitute from Afterlife is a Co host with Jimmy Carr on this.
- 32:41I forget. Anyway, it's really funny
- 32:44because it's just fascinating to see what eventually fucks them
- 32:50up And they and they laugh like some of the things it's just
- 32:53like, and afterwards they're like, I'm so angry at myself. 10
- 32:56seconds in there, except the Australian one.
- 32:58I reckon I could win because I just sit there going guys.
- 33:00Are really not funny because this one, this woman's doing
- 33:02really well and then she tries to tell a funny story and then
- 33:05she just can't. And then, and then he's like,
- 33:09you've just fucking torpedoed yourself.
- 33:10Why did you do that? Your own joke?
- 33:12Yeah, she. Was like, I was so mad at
- 33:15myself. That's a known.
- 33:16Goal. Wow.
- 33:16Yeah. Amazing.
- 33:19Yeah, it's super funny. Like the first scene of Mission
- 33:22Impossible. Yeah.
- 33:24Anyway, great show. Really.
- 33:25Really. Yeah.
- 33:26Entertaining. Yeah, I'd, I'd watch that.
- 33:28What was the other thing that I said I was going to watch?
- 33:31Oh, that's Hellboy. The new Hellboy.
- 33:33Oh. Yeah, gotta.
- 33:34Watch. That is it New came?
- 33:36I thought it came out a while ago.
- 33:38Yeah, but maybe within 3. Years.
- 33:39I'm taking a different one. Four years.
- 33:40Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 33:42The first one was a different Hellboy.
- 33:46The second one we're yeah, sorry, I.
- 33:48Know it's maybe you'll think of a different movie you did.
- 33:50What's his name played Hellboy in?
- 33:51David Harbour. That's right, that's the man.
- 33:54And now? This is not David Harbour or.
- 33:58Ron Perlman. Ron Perlman maybe?
- 34:00I haven't heard it's bad. It's somebody else.
- 34:04Have you ever heard of it at all?
- 34:06Yeah, I'm telling you about it now.
- 34:08For the first time, I started watching something this week.
- 34:11I started watching Cobra Kai which is.
- 34:14I told you to watch this years ago.
- 34:17Is it actually good? So good, Matt.
- 34:20It's so good. And the things that I thought I
- 34:24was going to not like about it, it turned out not not I didn't.
- 34:28I didn't need to worry. You didn't like them?
- 34:32Yeah, well, he, OK, I'll tell you, I'll tell you what.
- 34:35So, so the, I mean, the, the premise is, if I think Cracked
- 34:39did a video on this like 15 years ago where they were like,
- 34:41actually, if you rewatch Karate Kid as an adult, Daniel's the
- 34:44Daniel guy is the bully to Joey, Johnny Lawrence and steal his
- 34:49girlfriend and then unprovoked violence and all this stuff.
- 34:55And there is a great scene in in one of the early episodes where
- 34:58Johnny is telling somebody about it.
- 34:59He's like, yeah. And then I hadn't seen him for
- 35:01months. And then I'm rolling the joint
- 35:03in a toilet and he just fucking squirts me with water.
- 35:05The print like. And you're like.
- 35:08Yeah, that really he was asking for it at that point.
- 35:11He's like an illegal kick and. Yeah, yeah, He won with an
- 35:14illegal kick. And then yeah, like, yeah.
- 35:18But so it's about what happened to Johnny Lawrence, you know, 30
- 35:24years after that, you know, he was, he was kind of the, the
- 35:28Jack the lad of his high school, but he didn't, shit did not work
- 35:33out for him. The same thing.
- 35:34It had to work out a lot of the cool people.
- 35:36Yeah, but Larusso has been riding his fame this whole time
- 35:41only to open up a used car dealership, right?
- 35:45And, and he's just a fucking smug bastard living, you know,
- 35:50in a much nicer house than Johnny.
- 35:52And then, you know, over the course of episodes, they end up
- 35:55each starting up their own rival karate school.
- 35:58And it's very good. It's packed with nostalgia from
- 36:04Karate Kid, but also just broad 80s nostalgia anyway because.
- 36:08Like but also the further you go down and I don't want to use
- 36:13spoilers, but there's it's the stole drop of Karate Kid 2,
- 36:16Karate Kid three, like it's really brings back characters
- 36:21from everywhere and it really. Does.
- 36:27But it's that's been any that's been.
- 36:28It. Has it shows Danny to be the one
- 36:30like I must save everything and I'm right about everything.
- 36:33It still shows that throughout the entire thing and but no,
- 36:37it's worth the watch. I think the last season is
- 36:40coming out soon and. Yeah, because it's like 6
- 36:43seasons and I, I thought because they trained kids and I'm like,
- 36:47I, I have a problem watching stuff with teenagers in it now
- 36:49because everyone who writes for teenagers tries to make them
- 36:52really woke and really like, you know, like it's just, it's
- 36:56alienating to to watch adults writing for kids now.
- 37:02But these kids talk about fucking Dicks and stuff like and
- 37:05the main girl, Larusso's daughter, like she gets bullied
- 37:09because everyone thinks she sucked a bunch of guys Dicks.
- 37:11Do you know what I mean? Like like the it's, it's just,
- 37:15it's good stuff. It's.
- 37:17Yeah, it's definitely worth a watch.
- 37:19I enjoyed watching it and I'm looking forward to seeing the
- 37:21the end of it. But yeah, just, it's, I just, I
- 37:25just love it. Like it just keeps bringing back
- 37:27old characters and giving them sort of like because some people
- 37:30they were in the movies and then never seen again, never acted.
- 37:33And they're still, yeah, they're back again.
- 37:35They found him. Yeah, Yep.
- 37:36Yep. He's Mr. Miyagi in it, I think.
- 37:39He's dead, isn't he? He's dead, he's not in it.
- 37:41He's mentioned. They talk about him a lot.
- 37:43Yeah, right. There's a lot of photos on a lot
- 37:46of walls that are screenshots from Karate one and two, and
- 37:50it's like I don't remember seeing a guy there taking a
- 37:52picture. Of this shit like that happened.
- 37:57But I didn't have any pictures. This is.
- 38:00Surveillance footage, Mr. Hunt, and it's like him fucking the
- 38:03cables in the room. It's like what?
- 38:05You have footage of that, but. I'm gonna say daddy.
- 38:08He's very caught up on a guy that he knew for about 5 years.
- 38:13Four years later. Less like one school term.
- 38:19Yeah, it's true. It's true.
- 38:22The only people whose names I remember from high school are
- 38:24like you and like 6 other people who I see.
- 38:28Yeah. I feel bad.
- 38:30Sometimes I'll get a request on Facebook and I'm like, I don't
- 38:33know who you are. We've been a long time together
- 38:35in high school. Yeah.
- 38:37You were a person in my class. Yeah, I see that I've run into
- 38:41people and that every now and again they go, Oh yeah, we were
- 38:43such and such. And I I have no memory of you
- 38:46that sounds like. Something, Matt, that you would
- 38:48write on somebody's going away card.
- 38:50If you didn't know them very well, you were a person.
- 39:02I do recall that name from roll call.
- 39:06Yeah, yeah, That happened to me the other day, actually,
- 39:10literally that I was reading, I was going to say a newspaper.
- 39:13It wasn't a newspaper, it was online, but I was reading the
- 39:16news. And the don't do that.
- 39:19Well, this was about, this is about the credit director of the
- 39:24Sydney Festival stepping down. OK.
- 39:26And so it was or something. She you've done it now.
- 39:31Oh, sorry. I've done it.
- 39:33No, but I was like, I know that name.
- 39:35That's a girl from my fucking roll call in high school.
- 39:39And I like Google. I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah.
- 39:41And it makes sense that she went became a, you know, outs council
- 39:45board member so. Yeah, that was the school she
- 39:48went to. That's.
- 39:48Basically the yearbook most likely to become an Outs Council
- 39:51board member. Yeah, and I write in her
- 39:57yearbook. I think I remember you from
- 39:59writing. I actually even just forgot that
- 40:04there used to be a thing as roll call.
- 40:07Yeah, I dated. From my roll call once I dated
- 40:10somebody I had no other classes with but I just knew from.
- 40:13Oh yeah, from roll call roll. Call had another name.
- 40:16What did that? Fuck it, what was the other name
- 40:18for that? Homeroom, but that's amazing.
- 40:19Homeroom. Homeroom.
- 40:20Yeah, we did it, Yeah. Because I remember going to roll
- 40:22Call because you'd get marked off.
- 40:23Yes, you're here. And then we are pissed off to
- 40:25Dick's house and get drunk and play Nintendo.
- 40:28So why don't you go to Roll call like it wasn't a year?
- 40:31Because roll call also it was by last name yes.
- 40:36So I was just with all the Ms. from 7:00 to 12:00.
- 40:40It was so weird. It's such a weird way to do it.
- 40:42But it was also the same in primary school, like you were
- 40:45just sorted by your last name and now you're red group and
- 40:49blue group and yellow group. But there was no.
- 40:54I mean, it was just to make sure.
- 40:54Everybody was there. That's true.
- 40:56Yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess so, yeah.
- 40:58And which I assume is so they're liable or not liable if
- 41:02something happens to you on that day.
- 41:03There's probably that's the only way we make provision.
- 41:05In the in the school contract your parents sign that says if
- 41:07they're not in the homeroom it's not a problem.
- 41:09Yeah, but the problem is I went to that, then I piss off.
- 41:13Yeah, well. But yeah, liable.
- 41:15Just to be clear, you didn't go and create mischief around town,
- 41:18You went to Dick's house to play Nintendo.
- 41:20So. Yeah, we call.
- 41:21They're probably good problems. At all.
- 41:25Even when we used to hang out at the quicks, which is a which is
- 41:29a. Garage thing we we.
- 41:31Stopped robberies well, I remember one time they got upset
- 41:34with us and went like you can't hang around anymore we didn't
- 41:37hang around that next time and they got robbed and then the
- 41:39next time was yeah, you can hang around at night if you want
- 41:42because. Refill free refills on your
- 41:44drinks and stuff. Yeah, we changed.
- 41:46I remember changing people's tires.
- 41:48We never caused problems. Against the will.
- 41:51I helped. I helped the lady we break into
- 41:54her own car when she locked her keys in.
- 41:56Yeah, at. Night we helped the set her out
- 41:58and smoked and drank, not drank. We didn't really drink.
- 42:02I smoked and just walked. No, we didn't drink.
- 42:04And I was talking about some of that.
- 42:05The other bit, somebody said to me like, because at the time I'd
- 42:08just be like, oh, it's about 10:30, I'll put on my fucking.
- 42:11Someone will be there. And go there.
- 42:13My mom would be like, oh, who you meet?
- 42:14I'm like, no one but somebody. Someone will be there.
- 42:16And if not, I'll just talk to Leif, who works there, like,
- 42:19until someone rocks up. Yeah.
- 42:20But somebody was talking to me the other day about like, oh,
- 42:22when you're 14, 15, you start really drinking at parties and
- 42:25stuff. Like I, I didn't.
- 42:27And they're like, what? Didn't you go to parties?
- 42:29I'm like, yeah, I did. But taking my computer, these
- 42:31parties, like, yeah, unhooking my PC, it wasn't booze.
- 42:37No. There was a couple of women
- 42:38there, but that was only the ones that got brought along and
- 42:40were like, can we go now? Go now.
- 42:43The worst part was when you had the labs set up and then you'd
- 42:46been drinking coke all night, smoking and didn't forget which
- 42:49can you'd been using as your ashtray.
- 42:52You take that sip. I've definitely done that.
- 42:55Yeah, I brought Michelle to a party once at Dave's house.
- 42:58Didn't stick around. Yeah, I think we've all done it.
- 43:02You're like you into this at all.
- 43:04And also, I think it made everybody.
- 43:06Create a big line. Because it was.
- 43:08Yeah, that's right. Because it's Joe's sister and I
- 43:10was like, I didn't understand the dynamic at that point.
- 43:13That's. Right.
- 43:14Yeah, because we all knew Joe. Yeah, no, I didn't got to know
- 43:18him that, got to know him dangerously.
- 43:22Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:24I get along with Joe great. No, no, Joe's cool.
- 43:26We've we've since hung out. Yeah, just at the time.
- 43:29Yeah, like I wasn't doing his sister.
- 43:31So he literally had no. Problem with me, he threatened
- 43:35to murder me. I would literally threatened to
- 43:37murder. Me, I would have.
- 43:38We all would have. Literally threatened to murder
- 43:40me and yeah, but then bought me a drink years later.
- 43:44What sort of funny, Yeah. I'm sorry about that.
- 43:45He was also a bit of a bad horror himself though.
- 43:48But the second was his sister, not yeah.
- 43:52It was it was a more complicated situation to do with other
- 43:55people and we don't need to get into it.
- 43:57On the show. It was not the after I I
- 44:00understand now com I understand. That it was not entirely his
- 44:03fault, that he was mad at me. Somebody else told him some
- 44:06nonsense, yes. So yeah.
- 44:10People ruin it for everyone. Make a gun.
- 44:20I just watched it just before we started recording and.
- 44:23I like the teaser trailer more than I like this.
- 44:25I must admit I'm not sure now. The thing with this is.
- 44:29It looks like the old not a gun movies.
- 44:31Yes, have realized that. I don't know if that's a good
- 44:33thing or not. That's what exactly what I was
- 44:36thinking too. I was like this looks fucking
- 44:37stupid but then but that's the naked gun.
- 44:40That's. What it is like when I was when
- 44:43it starts off the new trailer, it's starting to seem like it's
- 44:45a bit more serious and like when you kill a man for the first
- 44:49time like it's and then it's and then you find out you love it.
- 44:53Yeah, yeah. And then he's ripping because I
- 44:56remember those. Kind of gags like in the first
- 44:58one where he's like snooping in that person's house and he opens
- 45:01the drawer and goes bingo and then pulls out a bingo card.
- 45:04Like that's the level of humor. The whole thing about those
- 45:07shows was it's just joke, joke, joke, joke, joke.
- 45:11There's not really a story, it's just how many jokes the.
- 45:14Plot is designed to be. Funny.
- 45:17Yeah, it did. But plots?
- 45:19Just jokes. It's just new jokes strung
- 45:21together. Yeah.
- 45:23Look, I want to enjoy this. I think I can enjoy it.
- 45:27I just have to remind myself what this is before I see it
- 45:32like and not expect it to be something else.
- 45:35Like just imagine thing this your age in the 80s and watching
- 45:40it now because you'll. Probably love it.
- 45:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I remember the Naked Gun
- 45:45movies were always. Do you remember?
- 45:47I don't know this. I mean, there's no TV anymore
- 45:50anyway, but there used to be an 830 movie on pretty much every
- 45:53night of the week. Just 830 was a movie.
- 45:55Later they changed it. But when I was a kid, 830 was a
- 45:57movie. But then 1030 was also a movie.
- 46:00And basically if there was breasts or swearing.
- 46:03You want 1030. 30 movie, not the 830 movie.
- 46:07So you had ET 1st and then you had Naked Gun or something like
- 46:12that in that range for the 1030 movie.
- 46:14So, and obviously was I've never allowed to.
- 46:17The annoying thing, the thing I hate is, is it's going to come
- 46:21out on August 1st. I'm not going to be able to see
- 46:23it. I'm going to be in Vietnam then,
- 46:27just can't see. It on that day.
- 46:29Well, no, no, no, I'm. I'm came.
- 46:32To go. I want to watch it.
- 46:33I want to go to the movies more, but I'm going to be travelling
- 46:37in Oh, see? Can't they do have, they do have
- 46:42movie cinemas in Vietnam, if that's where you're going to be.
- 46:45Yeah, but I don't want to read. You know you won't because it
- 46:50will be in English and the subtitles you can.
- 46:52Probably just. Wouldn't they dub it you?
- 46:56Put English subtitles. Yeah, that.
- 46:59Would be very funny. They wouldn't do that.
- 47:03No, but I when I was there, I don't remember seeing a movie
- 47:06theatre. They're definitely movie
- 47:08theatres. They've got, they must have, but
- 47:10theatres? I've not seen a movie in a movie
- 47:12theatre in Vietnam. I've seen movies in movie
- 47:14theatres in Thailand. So I and if they do in Thailand,
- 47:18they definitely do in Vietnam. Yeah, what?
- 47:20I was there. I just never saw one.
- 47:23How long are you going to see the?
- 47:24Philippines. Well, I'm planning to go to
- 47:27hospital for a week, get pumped full of ketamine.
- 47:31I'm going to do that in about 3 weeks.
- 47:33Well. Dan and I'll do that before we
- 47:35do our BT too. But if you if you want to get
- 47:37pumped for the ketamine and you're going to Southeast Asia,
- 47:40just I'll hook it up and then taking your own pizza to the
- 47:44pizza shop. Like although I am not taking
- 47:48any drugs to Southeast Asia, we'll take the.
- 47:53Border control will be like, do you have any drugs?
- 47:55And you'll be like the drugs are already inside me and.
- 47:57They'll be like what? Well, the first time I did go to
- 48:02Vietnam last year, when I did rock up the customs, I went.
- 48:05I have drugs, which was a little scary.
- 48:09They laughed at me, thank God. They weren't used to just having
- 48:12people blurt that out I suppose. Although I'm used when I say
- 48:15like I'm getting my prescription and stuff.
- 48:17I'm off to get drugs or something.
- 48:18Like it's just how I say it. And then I got, yeah, yo, I have
- 48:22drugs in the airport, but no, I'm going to go Vietnam and then
- 48:26down the Cambodia and that'll be about 17 days and everything got
- 48:29a little trip up in Thailand. You know, I'm thinking about
- 48:33maybe ducking across to Japan for 11 days and then ducking
- 48:38back to Thailand to go to an all inclusive resort and just relax
- 48:41for a week. So it could be gone for like 2
- 48:44months. I mean that does.
- 48:46Sound and. Sick.
- 48:47Yeah, that sounds great. And cheap.
- 48:51Yeah, not Japan. Japan.
- 48:54Not Japan though. Everything else, yes.
- 48:56Well, the thing about the Japan trip, like I can get like an 11
- 48:59day tour for like 3003 and a half, 4000 and getting a flight
- 49:04from Asia to there is like 500 bucks.
- 49:07So yeah, getting a flight from here to there is expensive, but
- 49:10yeah. You'll already be there.
- 49:14Yeah, that sounds great. And they cut off.
- 49:21Yeah. So it's.
- 49:22So do one last trip with my leg. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:25I'm trying to think of different ways you could just really get
- 49:29your money's worth out of that leg or you still have it.
- 49:31I don't. Know.
- 49:34But three legged race just. Oh, I can't run as it is.
- 49:39Yeah, that's not right. You got to do much.
- 49:42But one thing I'd love to do before I lose it is drive a
- 49:45manual car again. Oh.
- 49:48Sure, yeah. But I don't know where to find
- 49:51one. No, I know, right?
- 49:53Yeah. They have.
- 49:55I got a euro. They're not that common.
- 49:58My brother, you can buy like a BM WM2, which is Oh yeah, manual
- 50:02because I don't even know if they make that in order.
- 50:04Oh, they probably do, but yeah, it's very nice.
- 50:07Yeah, he. Brought it used to be funny to
- 50:08get a manual. Was the cheaper version,
- 50:11although it used to cost more and now yeah, you barely find a
- 50:14manual. And in terms of numbers, they
- 50:16would make way more manuals and they would only make you know,
- 50:19you know, one, one run of the autos.
- 50:22But now we're heading off to where we are and everything's on
- 50:26electric manuals are going to disappear.
- 50:28Yeah, it's true. But even even we're not
- 50:30electric. The latest Supra, Toyota Supra
- 50:33didn't come out with a manual. It owned auto.
- 50:36And it's like Rev heads. Yeah, like buying a Supra.
- 50:40Yeah, here's my Supra auto. Just something.
- 50:43You put it in drive, or if a sober citizen, put it in tea.
- 50:49She said yeah, for trouble. That's so funny.
- 50:52That's got to be a sketch. That's good.
- 50:54Write that down. I've been watching, you probably
- 50:57know this guy Luke Gavel Gazes is a YouTube channel and it's, I
- 51:03mean, there's, I know there's tons of them.
- 51:05This is 1 I happen to stumble upon, but it's just court cases
- 51:07of a judge dealing with various things and I guess sovereign
- 51:12citizens come up frequently these days.
- 51:14Scary how often they come. Up because they'll be talking
- 51:18about what this someone did and then they'll say something about
- 51:21he had a they say, oh, he has a license plate that just said
- 51:23traveller and then the judge would go oh, fuck.
- 51:26All right. Yeah, this is going to be fun
- 51:30because they know it's not going to just be a Yes, I was.
- 51:33Yeah, you caught me. I'll pay.
- 51:35It's going to be a it's going to be a lot of word salad.
- 51:38Yeah. And he's like, because like, I
- 51:40see. OK, you're not allowed to drive
- 51:42anymore. Yeah.
- 51:43Yeah, I love the ones where cops pull them over and they're like,
- 51:49I'm filming you and he's like, great, I'm also filming you dig
- 51:51head and I know the law like no, I know the law at night.
- 51:54You know a website that you went to and I will literally break
- 51:57this window and physically drag you out of this car.
- 52:01And I'm well within my right, but I just, I don't.
- 52:05Get the sovereigns. Normally what happens is they
- 52:07will lose their license and then they'll look how can I drive
- 52:11without one and then they go down the rabbit hole or I don't
- 52:15need one because it's traveling and then it's sort of like,
- 52:19don't you in America, yes, you have the right to travel between
- 52:23states. That is your absolute right.
- 52:25I. Do.
- 52:26How you travel is not a. Right, right.
- 52:30Yeah, I was just thinking, So it's basically saying you can go
- 52:33anywhere you want in the United States if you're a citizen.
- 52:35Of the United States, basically what it's what the right to
- 52:37travel is in America is you have the right to go between States
- 52:41and you have the same rights as when you travel into new state,
- 52:44you have the same rights as any citizen that's in that state.
- 52:47Of that state, OK Of that state. That's all it is.
- 52:50Because there was that slave that got taken by his master
- 52:53into a into a non a non slave state.
- 52:57And he was like. I'm not a slave anymore.
- 52:59Yeah, and tried to tried to sue. You know, I'm talking like the
- 53:03the 1850s. I'm.
- 53:05Not, no. Not last week.
- 53:06No go on Google. You'll see it, but that's
- 53:09actually what it's about. It's about having your same
- 53:11rights when you travel across state borders.
- 53:13That's what it's about. But you can go to Vermont by
- 53:15fire. Is even if they're not available
- 53:17in Tennessee. Yes, but yeah, people just you.
- 53:21Can't get in trouble. You bring them back back.
- 53:23Like, for example, yeah, if I go to New Hampshire, buy a bunch of
- 53:25shit, bring them back into Rhode Island, the cops could say you
- 53:27can't have that, mate. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:30It's the same way with marijuana as well.
- 53:32Yeah. Is that not just?
- 53:35Cross the board. OK, now.
- 53:37No, no, federally it's still not legal.
- 53:41No. OK, it it is.
- 53:43It's everywhere now here. We've literally on the way to
- 53:46work now. There's literally a drive
- 53:47through weed shop on the side of the highway.
- 53:50I just think it's funny. It's like we went from you can't
- 53:55have this as fucking illegal and you'll be arrested for it too.
- 53:58There is a fucking. Weed.
- 53:59McDonald's. There are still people in jail.
- 54:02Yeah. The weeds, but.
- 54:04Escalated very quickly. Literally drive through weed, so
- 54:09funny. I mean, I'm hardly surprised.
- 54:12The thing It stinks. Stinks worse.
- 54:17Than I grew I don't like I'd enjoy the smell of it Smell
- 54:19yeah, but again. I walked past someone smoking a
- 54:21cigarette the other day, which has not happened to me in years,
- 54:24and I was like, oh. It looked like that.
- 54:25Glorious. I know.
- 54:26I loved that it smelled good. Yeah.
- 54:28Yeah, that weed. But though I just find that that
- 54:31marijuana spells a lot. It's more potent and smells a
- 54:34lot more than just a normal. Yeah, I mean, I don't like it,
- 54:36but I. Mean it's just a weed that we're
- 54:38sort of we're switching from cigarettes not being legal
- 54:42essentially to that's why I don't think that's why I don't
- 54:46know if marijuana will be ever legal.
- 54:48Here because but people aren't smoking joints I assume they've
- 54:51got fucking vapes, no? Some people do.
- 54:54Here nearly it's they lined, yeah.
- 54:57Yeah, totally. Yeah, it's, yeah.
- 54:59It's I'm saying if you hand about in Providence, you'll, I
- 55:00mean, yeah, it's pretty, pretty prevalent.
- 55:03Last time I was in Lai went to a shop and they basically you come
- 55:06in you get a free joint. To smoke while you browse the
- 55:10store. That's back when it was medical.
- 55:14That's amazing. That's great.
- 55:17No, it was back when it was medical marijuana.
- 55:20Oh, I see. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:24And I was eligible for a license.
- 55:27Yeah, I bet you were. I bet you.
- 55:29Without lying, but. We don't like it so.
- 55:34You just mentioned you've been watching a YouTube.
- 55:38You don't have. And who was that?
- 55:42Oh, the the channel, I think it's called Gavel Gazes.
- 55:45I don't know that it's particularly better or as good
- 55:47as other channels. It's just the one that I stumble
- 55:49upon. And I was like, oh.
- 55:51Yeah, that's fair. I'll I'll give that a watch.
- 55:52There's a lot of. YouTube channel and I can't
- 55:55remember what it is so I'll have to look it up and maybe I'll put
- 55:57it in the notes but you guys might like it.
- 56:01Have you seen this? It's a blind guy who's been
- 56:04blind since birth talking about what he thinks things might look
- 56:09like based on the descriptions people have told him over the
- 56:12years. Like for example, they're like,
- 56:15what do you think a colour is? And he's like, I have literally
- 56:20no idea what a colour is, but I know that people describe things
- 56:27that are blue in this way and people just describe things that
- 56:31are green in this way. And it's so abstract because he
- 56:34has no frame of reference and. Blind his whole life.
- 56:39It's not like he lost it. So it's.
- 56:41Yeah, that's right. But and then there's practical
- 56:43questions. How do you know when it's time
- 56:45to go to sleep, like the day night cycle?
- 56:48How do how does that does that have any effect on your life?
- 56:51Or do you just set your watch? Yeah, right.
- 56:55It's so fascinating. There's dozens of videos.
- 56:58I'd have to think that it probably does because it's still
- 57:02about that amount of sunlight you're getting and stuff.
- 57:04That would still play a part on that.
- 57:08And I'm going back to that movie with the Bible, Braille Bible.
- 57:13Oh yes, oh Book of Eli. Yeah.
- 57:16Yeah, that was a good movie. I mean, it was good to have
- 57:18been, but I. Enjoyed it.
- 57:19I didn't. I didn't pick the twist.
- 57:20I thought the twist was he was listening.
- 57:22No, I didn't listening to it. Oh, yeah.
- 57:24OK, to be honest, I'm not even sure I was expecting A twist, so
- 57:27I yeah, it got me. Someone told me there was a
- 57:30twist. Right.
- 57:32Yeah, that's the most thing possibly happened.
- 57:34And I was just going. Every time he goes to sleep, he
- 57:36sort of puts in his headphones. He's listened to an audio book.
- 57:40I watched that new, it's not that new anymore.
- 57:44M like Shyamalan. Movie.
- 57:46Oh yeah, Beach. At no, no, I've seen that one.
- 57:50The one at. Trap.
- 57:52Yeah, the one at the all. Over this is the concert.
- 57:54I haven't seen it. I know Jenna watched it and she
- 57:56didn't know it was like Shyamalan.
- 57:57And you don't have any. Images.
- 57:59No, no, maybe she got to the end and she went, oh, that explains
- 58:01it, because it was not Shyamalan.
- 58:04Yeah. And the whole time, you're like,
- 58:08why is this untalented person playing this pop star?
- 58:11Like, what kind of. And then it looks like starring
- 58:13Jessica Shyamalan and you're. Oh, OK, well, this also makes
- 58:16sense. But I was waiting for A twist
- 58:23that never came because what I thought was just the plot and
- 58:28was very, very obvious from the start.
- 58:31Was the twist. That apparently was the twist,
- 58:35and I was like, no, that wasn't the twist.
- 58:36They he set that up from the very beginning.
- 58:40He's not even trying anymore if that's he thought that.
- 58:42Was going to be a twist. He doesn't he pay for his own
- 58:45movies these days? Yeah, yeah, can't get a mate
- 58:49otherwise. Yeah, and they clearly make
- 58:51enough that he can make another one.
- 58:53Yeah, I watched that one on the beach.
- 58:54Old where everyone just suddenly got really old.
- 58:56That was fucking garbage. But it was I.
- 58:59Didn't see it. I'm still watching them.
- 59:02I don't know why I but I am. I am still watching them.
- 59:08Baby, you enjoy them secretly. I don't, that's the thing.
- 59:13But I enjoy watching them. Yeah, I don't really.
- 59:17Know I'm a masochist. Got to got to see them all.
- 59:24We've got some Minecraft news and we.
- 59:27Should mention update. We should pimp the Patreon.
- 59:30If you if you like this show and you like Minecraft, yeah, join
- 59:34the Patreon and you can get on our Minecraft server.
- 59:37Yeah, and you don't have to be the the the highest tier, just
- 59:40any tier, any tier patron can come and get on this in our
- 59:43Minecraft realm. And I figured out how to do it
- 59:46via a link. So I don't know if you manually
- 59:48I could just you know if you sign up, I'll send you a link
- 59:50and you can join if you want or. Or not because I went on the
- 59:53other night and you know when you're, you know, when you're
- 59:57playing at night as in at night in the game, I mean.
- 1:00:01You could kind of you navigate by like torch lights.
- 1:00:05So what like if you can see a light in the distance you like,
- 1:00:07that's my fucking house, I'll head towards that.
- 1:00:09So I was, I was on one of those things because I'd strayed a
- 1:00:11little bit too far, got back to what I thought was our little
- 1:00:14homestead. And I was like, this is not a
- 1:00:16building. I recognize somebody else has
- 1:00:18been here and built this house and I'm in the wrong place.
- 1:00:21And then that happened once more to me.
- 1:00:23So I it's my favorite part of the game is going in and seeing.
- 1:00:26New things that's new by the people also yeah because there's
- 1:00:29been another update so if it only make it meant to make it
- 1:00:32look better as well it's. Fucking beautiful.
- 1:00:36Interesting. I don't know if I've seen.
- 1:00:37It's like ray tracing or something.
- 1:00:39It's like especially at night. During the day maybe this
- 1:00:42atmospherics I didn't really notice, but at night the
- 1:00:44reflections on the water from the lights are beautiful.
- 1:00:48OK. I think I'm going to make an
- 1:00:50offensive sign. Well, it'll.
- 1:00:53Try and stop you so. Yeah, it wouldn't even let me
- 1:00:57write Matt's humpy on the sign when I very first started the
- 1:01:01world and I built a little shed. It wouldn't let me have Fag
- 1:01:04Cottage. Well, I'll just you.
- 1:01:09Type it and then you go OK, done.
- 1:01:11And then it just, there's nothing on.
- 1:01:12There, it just disappears, yeah. I'm going to write it in sand.
- 1:01:16But that'll. Work.
- 1:01:17Then you've got to find it. I've got to find faggot.
- 1:01:22I saw someone trying to book seats to see how to train your
- 1:01:25drag in the movie The other day and then that doesn't.
- 1:01:27Look bad, I must say. Yeah, it's all right.
- 1:01:30You know, when you reserve seats at the theatre, This was in
- 1:01:32Australia too. I think they they went to
- 1:01:34reserve seats and then they were like, probably not this, this
- 1:01:37showing of the film because somebody had reserved the seats
- 1:01:40and it spelled out the word penis.
- 1:01:42And then it was like, I probably won't go to this showing.
- 1:01:46No, it's going. To be a quick.
- 1:01:47Screening. Oh.
- 1:01:49Yeah, fucking. Now or if?
- 1:01:52You're just If you just want a riotous night out yourself, make
- 1:01:56a exclamation on the end of that penis.
- 1:01:59Like, yeah, if you're if I was 20 years younger, that could
- 1:02:03lead to a great night. Now I'd just be annoyed.
- 1:02:09That's the one reason, you know, you mentioned, look, you want to
- 1:02:11go back to the cinema and maybe you can again now because
- 1:02:13everyone else has stopped going. But I had to stop going because
- 1:02:17the audiences were fuck wits every time.
- 1:02:19And it didn't have to be a penis shaped audience.
- 1:02:21It could be any shape of audience.
- 1:02:24They're just on their phones, they're making and taking calls,
- 1:02:27they're yelling at the screen. They come to a movie here,
- 1:02:31pretty much screening. Yeah, that's mission possible.
- 1:02:35I waited a sufficient amount of time that when I was there, it
- 1:02:38was still still a bunch of people in the theatre, but it
- 1:02:39was just people who actually wanted to watch the movie, not
- 1:02:42people who said to be annoying. So.
- 1:02:45Yeah, Yep. You know where there is a bunch
- 1:02:49of annoying people though? And that's that's the after
- 1:02:51party. In the Minecraft server.
- 1:02:53Yeah. You know, actually.
- 1:02:55Are are we still the annoying people in the after party?
- 1:02:58Yeah. I guess we are patreon.com
- 1:03:01forward slash. Dan's just making his feelings
- 1:03:03know. Yeah, guys are really annoying
- 1:03:06me. I think about Minecraft just
- 1:03:08before we go. I was playing.
- 1:03:11So I guess we were at a party the other week and there's
- 1:03:16another kid there who was playing Minecraft on an Xbox at
- 1:03:18the time. And Lyra was watching.
- 1:03:20And the other day she said to me, do we have that creeper
- 1:03:25game? And I said, oh, Minecraft.
- 1:03:28And she was like, yeah, yeah. And I said, yeah, we do.
- 1:03:30So I on the Switch too, I got on our realm because you can do it
- 1:03:34from there. And Darcy was on as well.
- 1:03:37So that was good. Got to play a bit with him.
- 1:03:41And Lyra loved it. She was like, I just want to
- 1:03:44play this forever now, and I was.
- 1:03:45Like, yeah, I like to watch. I get.
- 1:03:48But I'll say this chat on any on the consoles is fucking.
- 1:03:54Ridiculous. Because I know, I know Darcy was
- 1:03:56on PC because he was typing full sentences that made sense.
- 1:04:00And I was like, and I felt bad that I was like, responding is
- 1:04:04very painful. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:07So. If you're listening, and I hope
- 1:04:08you are, I apologize if I was not as verbose.
- 1:04:14It's really fucking and the switch.
- 1:04:16The buttons are flipped as we know.
- 1:04:19Of course. There so I would type out
- 1:04:20something and then I go send and it would go delete and that
- 1:04:24literally happened like 3 or 4 times and I was like.
- 1:04:26Yeah, this thing I I get yeah it's but when I go between
- 1:04:32switch and Xbox definitely happens.
- 1:04:33But the thing that happens the most on is if I'm on my Retroid
- 1:04:36because I've got emulators 4 Sega and Nintendo like and so
- 1:04:42literally on the same on that same controller you have to.
- 1:04:45But why is Nintendo different to everyone?
- 1:04:49Yeah. Like everyone?
- 1:04:51Yeah. Everyone can send.
- 1:04:52A label differently Nintendo. Yeah, Nintendo's Sony's buttons
- 1:04:56are labeled differently, but the bottom one is still select like.
- 1:05:00Yes, yes, and the one over here is still back.
- 1:05:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:04Nintendo's like fuck yeah. Anyway, but after party we'll be
- 1:05:09there. See you soon.
- 1:05:10That's all for this week. Thank you for listening and we
- 1:05:13hope you enjoyed the show. If you enjoyed it then please
