- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Rental Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Brought to you by Coors Light, as cold as the Rockies. Hey,
- 0:09Speaker 2: it's football! We got football tonight!
- 0:12Speaker 3: Seahawks, Broncos.
- 0:13Speaker 4: We have a damn near every day of the.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Week these days. We were waiting for just, what, three
- 0:17Speaker 3: days in between?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Way to get back on the horse. Seahawks, Broncos tonight,
- 0:21Speaker 2: JSN good to go, as if we were expecting anything different, really.
- 0:25Speaker 2: No Zach Charbonnet, though. No linebacker Drake Thomas, though. They
- 0:29Speaker 2: have been ruled out. So throwback game. I kind of
- 0:33Speaker 2: like this. The throwback jerseys, Seahawks and Broncos both.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Fans are way.
- 0:39Speaker 5: More into jerseys than I thought before I got into
- 0:42Speaker 5: this business.
- 0:42Speaker 2: If you're a video game nerd like me, it's got
- 0:44Speaker 2: Tecmo Super Bowl vibes.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I love it.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Kraken in Tampa tonight, taking on the Lightning. That's going
- 0:50Speaker 2: to be a tough one, but the Kraken, 5-2. You
- 0:54Speaker 2: heard me correct, 5-2. They're going to try to make
- 0:57Speaker 2: it 6-2 against a tough test. 4 o'clock puck drop tonight, 3.30.
- 1:00Speaker 6: Yours truly, Chris.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I'll be back right here in this same studio for
- 1:05Speaker 2: this exact reason, for the Kraken in Tampa. Everett Fitzhugh,
- 1:08Speaker 2: Al Koniski on site on 93.3 KJRFM in Tampa. By
- 1:11Speaker 2: the way, John Forslund joining us here in the 10
- 1:14Speaker 2: o'clock hour. Sounders fall into FC Dallas last night, 1-0.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Next match coming up on Saturday, 7.30, again, as the
- 1:22Speaker 2: Sounders host Montreal. Huskies football, they take on Purdue tomorrow.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Softee will be on a plane, maybe on pins and
- 1:30Speaker 2: needles under that seat. 5 o'clock kickoff, 1 p.m. Pre-game
- 1:35Speaker 2: right here, 93.3 KJRFM. Elijah Brown will start QB1 for
- 1:41Speaker 2: his first time ever at UW. Damon Williams is out
- 1:45Speaker 2: in what is being termed as a, quote, significant rib.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Injury, end quote.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Now, convenient based on the fact of how little he
- 1:54Speaker 2: played up to standards last time out.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean, I never want to see a
- 1:59Speaker 5: player hurt, but it was definitely a situation as we
- 2:02Speaker 5: have seen also over on the other side of the
- 2:05Speaker 5: state with my cougs is that's there it it's a
- 2:09Speaker 5: good time for a.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Change elijah brown your next man up onto the show
- 2:13Speaker 2: we go here we are because i mean i think
- 2:15Speaker 2: we saw first game against washington state then the utah
- 2:19Speaker 2: state debacle as well people are going to go to
- 2:21Speaker 2: bed thinking uh-oh what's up with this football team and
- 2:24Speaker 2: you go down the list every game except for this
- 2:27Speaker 2: one the huskies are the underdog.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Yeah yep it's uh It is interesting, and I wonder
- 2:34Speaker 5: if we see Elijah shine, what the fan reaction will be.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I can't remember the last time we saw a star
- 2:43Speaker 2: of DeMond Williams' stature with potential fall this fast and
- 2:49Speaker 2: fall this far.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Yeah, and I mean, it started last year with his
- 2:52Speaker 5: attempt to leave. And I know that Jed Fish did
- 2:55Speaker 5: a really good job, whether he was telling the truth
- 2:57Speaker 5: and not necessarily covering for him.
- 2:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 4: He did a really good job.
- 3:01Speaker 6: Rib injury. Heal up. Heal up.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Get back soon. But it's Elijah Brown's turn. Mike Benton
- 3:06Speaker 2: in for Greg Bell because Gray's catching a plane right
- 3:09Speaker 2: now to Denver. He'll be on site for the Seahawks
- 3:12Speaker 2: and the Broncos tonight. So we've got a lot to
- 3:15Speaker 2: get to. Greg, by the way, will be popping back
- 3:17Speaker 2: in on this show later on because he and Farhan
- 3:20Speaker 2: Lalji huddled up. And we're going to get to the general...
- 3:25Speaker 2: Match up here. What's wrong with Bo Nix? Because this
- 3:28Speaker 2: is also a big part of the conversation and how
- 3:31Speaker 2: the Huskies can also, or the Huskies, the Seahawks.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm not a morning person here. How the Seahawks can
- 3:37Speaker 3: bounce back.
- 3:38Speaker 4: This is barely the morning.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'm a 7 to 10 p.m.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Person.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Come on now. You are.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Okay, you're a night owl. Okay.
- 3:44Speaker 2: For you YouTubers, yes, this is full. This has got
- 3:47Speaker 2: coffee in here. This might be my second or my
- 3:48Speaker 2: third round.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I can't remember.
- 3:51Speaker 6: It's going to be a long day.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Ben does these splits in a way no other does.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I got this. I got Kraken Tampa Bay later
- 4:00Speaker 2: on here. I didn't screw the Kraken up there on that.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But what's wrong with Bo Nix? Because the Seahawks are
- 4:06Speaker 2: licking their chops on this and also a trip around
- 4:09Speaker 2: the NFC West. So Farhan Lalji, that conversation coming up
- 4:12Speaker 2: at 11 a.m. Before that, we're going to get to
- 4:13Speaker 2: John Forslund also at 1020. And what's the state of
- 4:18Speaker 2: the Kraken right now at 5-2? They came in with,
- 4:23Speaker 2: let's just say, low expectations. Could they at least get
- 4:28Speaker 2: into the playoff mix? That's usually code word for you've
- 4:31Speaker 2: got a lot of unproven talent. You've got maybe someone
- 4:35Speaker 2: who's missing a star up front, which has been the
- 4:37Speaker 2: case for this hockey team. But here they are scoring
- 4:40Speaker 2: goals by the bunches, no matter who you're playing against.
- 4:44Speaker 2: and they've won five of their first seven games. So
- 4:47Speaker 2: how big of a sample size is this right now
- 4:49Speaker 2: to really give an accurate judgment on how good this
- 4:52Speaker 2: team is and how good they can be? They've looked great,
- 4:56Speaker 2: but my goodness, you've got a big test coming up
- 4:58Speaker 2: tonight in the Tampa Bay Lightning. So John Forslund, who
- 5:01Speaker 2: was on a plane this morning, he had the Amazon
- 5:04Speaker 2: Prime call last night for the Capitals and the Montreal Canadiens.
- 5:07Speaker 2: He's getting a little bit of sleep right now. We'll
- 5:09Speaker 2: wake him up at about 10, 20 or so. But
- 5:13Speaker 2: my voice, your voice also.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he is on the road, right?
- 5:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 4: That's Eastern time. He'll be fine.
- 5:18Speaker 3: He's Mr.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Planes, trains and automobiles. He told me he's only in
- 5:23Speaker 2: town here in Seattle this month for a combined three days.
- 5:27Speaker 3: They do have absolutely crazy.
- 5:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Like he literally has in and out surgical strike. Well,
- 5:33Speaker 2: there's a five game road trip here to work around. Plus,
- 5:37Speaker 2: he missed also one home game. That was a Vegas game.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Because he's got TNT, he's got Amazon, so he's literally
- 5:45Speaker 2: flying here, there, everywhere. His schedule is unbelievable. And I've
- 5:50Speaker 2: talked to him before on this. He said, always take
- 5:54Speaker 2: the 6 a.m.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Flight.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Don't do the red-eye, don't do later.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That's where things can get scuttled, and I think you
- 6:02Speaker 2: know you do this a lot for Washington State. The
- 6:05Speaker 2: first flight out usually is the easiest one because you
- 6:08Speaker 2: begin to have cancellations later.
- 6:10Speaker 6: In the day.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Cancellations, too.
- 6:12Speaker 5: But if one plane, let's say even flying from Philadelphia,
- 6:17Speaker 5: is coming in 30 minutes late, everything after that gets delayed.
- 6:22Speaker 5: So if you get that first flight out, which is
- 6:24Speaker 5: what I did last weekend out of Utah, I got
- 6:26Speaker 5: into bed at 1.30.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I had to get up at 4 a.m.
- 6:28Speaker 5: 1.30 a.m. and got up at 4 a.m. to make
- 6:33Speaker 5: that flight. But then you get a nice nap on
- 6:35Speaker 5: the flight and then you're home for your regular day.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I've done that before, too, even going from a crack
- 6:42Speaker 2: and road game to a game situation the very next
- 6:46Speaker 2: day where I wasn't on the road with the team.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I was back in studio. Always take the morning flight.
- 6:51Speaker 9: Always.
- 6:53Speaker 10: Period.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So speaking of flying, can the Seahawks succeed in the air? That,
- 6:58Speaker 2: for me, is the biggest question for tonight, Jess. Because
- 7:01Speaker 2: the QB situation right now is code yellow. The running
- 7:05Speaker 2: back situation right now is code red.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Yes.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm with you on that.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Price is out. He can't hang on to the football.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Zach Charbonnet is out. He's not going to be walking
- 7:13Speaker 2: in that door for at least another week. So as
- 7:16Speaker 2: of right now, you're having to deal with a running
- 7:18Speaker 2: back room that's got Emmanuel Wilson, George Alani, who should
- 7:22Speaker 2: not be taking RB1 reps. But yet, we're going to
- 7:25Speaker 2: learn potentially of a new name that was brought up,
- 7:28Speaker 2: and I give credit here. Greg, Hugh Millen, Chuck Anders
- 7:32Speaker 2: had a great conversation this morning on the 12th Man Roundtable,
- 7:35Speaker 2: Robert Henry. This is not going to be a fix-all situation,
- 7:40Speaker 2: but it's patchwork here for a football team that needs
- 7:43Speaker 2: patchwork while Sam Darnold tries to figure out the turnover situation.
- 7:47Speaker 5: And he's also someone we haven't seen, right? And it
- 7:50Speaker 5: means that the opponent has no game tape on him either.
- 7:53Speaker 5: And we also know, I think that it is a
- 7:56Speaker 5: benefit to the Seahawks knowing how damaged the Broncos' secondary
- 8:00Speaker 5: is right now as well. And this might also give
- 8:03Speaker 5: Sam a little, just a bit more flexibility in the
- 8:06Speaker 5: pocket if he wants to go deep.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I'm going to get to this at 1045 because you've
- 8:10Speaker 2: hinted with what we're going to get to. I'm going
- 8:13Speaker 2: to give folks one name under the spotlight that needs
- 8:17Speaker 2: a big, big game.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Make or break.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I think you know who it is, but the Seahawks
- 8:23Speaker 2: have to win this game in the air because without question.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Because Bo Nix.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Right now apparently is afraid of his own shadow with
- 8:31Speaker 2: throwing the football longer than 15 yards. And the Broncos
- 8:36Speaker 2: right now are more banged up than a MASH unit
- 8:39Speaker 2: in their secondary. I mean, for goodness sakes, JSN is
- 8:43Speaker 2: ready for a four-course meal. So I'm going to give
- 8:47Speaker 2: you that one name of 1045. Who needs a big
- 8:50Speaker 2: game tonight? I think you know who it's going to be.
- 8:53Speaker 2: But JSN's going to play.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Leonard Williams is going to play. He could get multiple sacks,
- 8:59Speaker 3: I think.
- 8:59Speaker 7: In this game tonight.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a good one for him. Set up
- 9:02Speaker 4: for Big Cat.
- 9:04Speaker 3: He had a rough week last week against the 49ers.
- 9:08Speaker 2: His season sack total and QB pressure numbers, it gives
- 9:12Speaker 2: you context, of course, for his impact. But, I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 2: with the lack of sacks he had last week, I
- 9:17Speaker 2: just think the time is ripe for him. With his
- 9:22Speaker 2: ability to collapse the pocket. That could disrupt Bo Nix's
- 9:26Speaker 2: rhythm because he's not doing much to avoid the branding
- 9:32Speaker 2: of Captain Checkdown.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Well, it doesn't need to be a sack.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Just scare him. Just get him for a loss. It
- 9:38Speaker 5: doesn't need to be just make him throw the ball away.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Put him behind the sticks in certain situations.
- 9:43Speaker 4: But yeah, I think he's going to gobble him up.
- 9:45Speaker 2: There are three quarterbacks qualified by the numbers who have
- 9:49Speaker 2: not yet thrown a touchdown pass when under pressure.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Guess who's one of them? Bo Nix. Bo Nix. So
- 9:58Speaker 3: Bo Nix is going to be front and center of this.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Conversation, no matter what direction you go for the Seahawks
- 10:03Speaker 2: and the Broncos. But we're going to get some more
- 10:05Speaker 2: QB talk at 1045+. Also, Bo Nix will be a part,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I believe, of the conversation between you'll hear from Greg
- 10:11Speaker 2: and Farhan Lalji at 11 a.m. But on the Kraken side,
- 10:14Speaker 2: at the same time, they are rising. They are ascending.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Do they have another gear to get to against Tampa Bay?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Because 5-2 is a great start, but how fair is
- 10:26Speaker 2: it to judge with how good this team can be?
- 10:30Speaker 2: We'll get to John Forslund on that. How real are
- 10:33Speaker 2: the Kraken? That conversation up next here at 93.3 KJRFM.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Coming up later on in this hour, the bright lights.
- 10:49Speaker 2: As we mentioned, who needs a big game tonight on
- 10:52Speaker 2: the Seahawks' side? Plus, next hour, Factor Fiction, courtesy Lucky
- 10:58Speaker 2: Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Jess, I believe you have the pick here for today, correct?
- 11:02Speaker 7: I do.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Oh, I can't wait for this one.
- 11:03Speaker 4: And I always go NFL.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Again, Factor Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 11:08Speaker 3: This is happening for 14 weeks.
- 11:10Speaker 2: On the 35s, that's 735, 1135, 235, 335. We make
- 11:15Speaker 2: a pick based on an upcoming college or pro game,
- 11:18Speaker 2: either against the spread or the total over-under. Once Jess
- 11:22Speaker 2: mentions that today, you've got 12 minutes here to text
- 11:25Speaker 2: FACT if you like the pick to 49451, Tacoma Dodge
- 11:28Speaker 2: text line. If you hate the pick, text FICTION to 49451.
- 11:33Speaker 3: You could win $ 1, 000.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Again each week here for Factor Fiction, courtesy Lucky Eagle Casino.
- 11:41Speaker 7: We do this every week here.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Without further ado, we mentioned, of course, 1047 coming up,
- 11:47Speaker 2: the bright lights. This man's always ready here for the
- 11:49Speaker 2: bright lights. Joining us in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, the
- 11:52Speaker 2: one and only John Forslund, TV play-by-play voice for the Kraken,
- 11:57Speaker 2: and also last night on Amazon Prime for the National Game.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Johnny, you were in D.C. Sunday, then back to D.C.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Last night.
- 12:06Speaker 2: You have a room under secret terms like back at
- 12:09Speaker 2: the Pentagon or something now?
- 12:11Speaker 8: No, they keep moving me around because they know I
- 12:14Speaker 8: can't remember where the heck I am half the time.
- 12:17Speaker 9: So that way they play games on me.
- 12:20Speaker 8: No different hotels, Mike, just to mix it up.
- 12:23Speaker 9: And now we're here in Tampa and a beautiful day.
- 12:26Speaker 3: It's great to have you.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And I'm outnumbered now because there are two Springfield College
- 12:31Speaker 2: alums joining me on this phone call with me, Jess.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Power, mind and body.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I know.
- 12:39Speaker 9: Spirit, mind, and body.
- 12:40Speaker 4: When I say power, sorry, I'm a little competitive.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Power, spirit leads to power. I'm the one who's supposed
- 12:45Speaker 2: to be groggy for the 10 a.m. hour, not you, Jess.
- 12:47Speaker 10: Come on.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Spirit, mind, and body. That was the triangle. That was
- 12:51Speaker 5: the triangle. I've been featured in the Triangle magazine, as
- 12:55Speaker 5: I bet you have been, too.
- 12:56Speaker 6: Oh, this is it. That's right.
- 12:57Speaker 8: And that's the key to humanics and everything else you're
- 13:01Speaker 8: supposed to learn there that I've forgotten.
- 13:02Speaker 9: So that's all good.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I love these vibes going into this conversation.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Johnny, Tampa Bay today, the story of this Kraken team
- 13:10Speaker 2: right now, 5-2, and I guess how real they are.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I mean, you get wins against perceived cakewalks like maybe Calgary.
- 13:18Speaker 3: You beat Philadelphia.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Maybe that game should not have gone to OT, but
- 13:22Speaker 2: this team looks promising against Edmonton despite losing by a
- 13:26Speaker 2: razor-thin margin.
- 13:27Speaker 3: They beat a Capitals team that's reloaded. You just saw
- 13:29Speaker 3: them again.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So this seems out to a great start by the
- 13:32Speaker 2: numbers here, but what's your level of optimism right now
- 13:35Speaker 2: with a record of 5-2?
- 13:35Speaker 3: Well, I think.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Optimism is really high right now, and it should be.
- 13:41Speaker 8: You know, Mike, when you look at the start of
- 13:44Speaker 8: any season, and you mentioned the Calgary games and those circumstances,
- 13:53Speaker 8: I always think of, okay, it's a small sample size.
- 13:55Speaker 8: They've only been at it for seven games, but what
- 13:57Speaker 8: if they had lost those games? you know, it'd be
- 14:00Speaker 8: a catastrophe, right? If it's two up and five down,
- 14:03Speaker 8: everybody's asking questions.
- 14:05Speaker 9: So it's not.
- 14:06Speaker 8: So that means no matter who you play, you know,
- 14:08Speaker 8: everybody starts with a clean slate and sure there's, there's
- 14:12Speaker 8: teams like Calgary and others at Philadelphia, you know, they're
- 14:14Speaker 8: really struggling. Then Detroit with some of their, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 8: off ice concerns they have right now with players and
- 14:20Speaker 8: holdouts doesn't matter. The Kraken have been able to take
- 14:24Speaker 8: care of business and play an efficient team game, which
- 14:27Speaker 8: is going to lead them to be competitive. And really,
- 14:30Speaker 8: that's all you can hope for right now. And as
- 14:32Speaker 8: I said at the start of the season, let's not
- 14:34Speaker 8: lead the fans down a path of this euphoria. It's
- 14:39Speaker 8: just take it a game-by-game situation.
- 14:42Speaker 9: Take a look at it and then assess where you're at.
- 14:45Speaker 9: And I really am.
- 14:46Speaker 8: Encouraged by the way they're playing. I like their team game.
- 14:50Speaker 8: I like how they've recovered from lapses. There's going to
- 14:53Speaker 8: be a lot of mistakes, especially with a shortened training camp.
- 14:56Speaker 8: And I think we're seeing that all over the league.
- 14:59Speaker 8: By and large, the Kraken have met every challenge. And
- 15:01Speaker 8: now as this trip moves along here to Florida, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 8: on one side of the coast, you're going to get
- 15:07Speaker 8: Tampa tonight, an excellent team, maybe the best team in
- 15:09Speaker 8: this five-game segment. But closely behind them are the Florida Panthers,
- 15:14Speaker 8: who they get on Saturday.
- 15:15Speaker 9: So they get to measure themselves, too, as we go
- 15:17Speaker 9: along here.
- 15:18Speaker 8: Beat who you're supposed to, I guess. But I'm not
- 15:22Speaker 8: sure they're in that position yet as a team. But
- 15:24Speaker 8: just take the wins and relish those. and then see
- 15:26Speaker 8: if you're ready for the next challenge. And this will
- 15:28Speaker 8: be a mighty one tonight.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And I mentioned before, too, the team game is looking
- 15:32Speaker 2: like it's coming together here. But I said this before,
- 15:35Speaker 2: you know, none of this matters unless your goaltending is
- 15:38Speaker 2: performing up to snuff. And my goodness, how good has
- 15:40Speaker 2: Philip Grubauer been so far in this stretch? I mean,
- 15:43Speaker 2: he looked great against Edmonton despite the loss. You also
- 15:47Speaker 2: put him in there against the Red Wings. He comes
- 15:50Speaker 2: out looking okay. Looked great against Philadelphia. But then to
- 15:54Speaker 2: highlight this, there seems to be a change and a
- 15:58Speaker 2: shift in attitude on this team. And it kind of
- 16:00Speaker 2: goes back to this tussle he had with Trevor Zegras.
- 16:04Speaker 2: And there is some gamesmanship. Zegras goes in, pokes him
- 16:08Speaker 2: after a whistle.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Later on, Gruby makes a glove save.
- 16:12Speaker 2: You know, scoops up with some mustard on the hot dog,
- 16:15Speaker 2: maybe throws a puck back at Zegras and Zegras tosses
- 16:18Speaker 2: it right back at him. Pandora's box opens and then
- 16:21Speaker 2: Grubauer absolutely buries Zegras in the post game scrum. So
- 16:26Speaker 2: I think number one, what'd you make out of that tussle?
- 16:29Speaker 2: And number two, from an overall scale, how does that
- 16:32Speaker 2: kind of define how this team is really engaging the
- 16:36Speaker 2: concept of conflict?
- 16:39Speaker 8: Well, let's address this topic and the questioning two ways.
- 16:43Speaker 8: First of all, the goaltending of Grubauer and Joey Decord.
- 16:49Speaker 8: Going into the game against Philadelphia on Tuesday night, I
- 16:52Speaker 8: don't have the numbers coming out of Philly, but the
- 16:54Speaker 8: Kraken going into that game had allowed 71 high-danger chances.
- 17:01Speaker 8: And that's the most at that time of any team
- 17:04Speaker 8: in the league. So camouflaged within... the euphoria if I
- 17:09Speaker 8: go back to that word again of these wins and
- 17:11Speaker 8: how they're playing and how resilient they've been is the
- 17:14Speaker 8: fact that they have given up chances and the goalies
- 17:17Speaker 8: have been able to save the bacon so that's always
- 17:19Speaker 8: a good thing so both are playing well I'm really
- 17:23Speaker 8: happy to see Grubauer get off to the start based
- 17:26Speaker 8: on his second half last year where I felt he
- 17:28Speaker 8: was the better of the two and you know he
- 17:32Speaker 8: did everything he could to try and keep the Kraken
- 17:34Speaker 8: in a position to recover and in the second half,
- 17:37Speaker 8: which is we know they never did.
- 17:39Speaker 9: So both goalies are on their game.
- 17:41Speaker 8: Now, as far as the emotions of everything, I do believe,
- 17:45Speaker 8: I do believe this team is playing as they should
- 17:48Speaker 8: with a chip on their shoulder. I do believe they
- 17:51Speaker 8: feel they've been shunned by a lot of the people
- 17:53Speaker 8: around the league who talk about the league and, you know,
- 17:56Speaker 8: put the Kraken on the non-watch list and their lack
- 17:59Speaker 8: of relevance and the whole Jason Robertson thing in the offseason.
- 18:03Speaker 8: You know, all these things come together. And they need
- 18:07Speaker 8: every edge possible. And if they're taking on that demeanor,
- 18:10Speaker 8: good for them because they need to. They need to
- 18:14Speaker 8: rally around something. And that's going to push them in
- 18:17Speaker 8: the right direction. I think they do have chemistry. I
- 18:21Speaker 8: think they've always had good chemistry. But I do believe
- 18:24Speaker 8: that maybe there's been an infusion of some youth.
- 18:28Speaker 9: A couple of new guys. You know, this whole thing
- 18:31Speaker 9: is coming together.
- 18:32Speaker 8: And when you go on the road early in the
- 18:34Speaker 8: season like they are, It doesn't matter how many points
- 18:38Speaker 8: you get out of the 10 points that are available.
- 18:42Speaker 8: If you play the five games as a team and
- 18:44Speaker 8: you come together and you have some unity, it's going
- 18:46Speaker 8: to bear out well for you as the season progresses.
- 18:49Speaker 8: So right now, they're killing two birds here by winning
- 18:52Speaker 8: and doing all that. So, yeah, I see a team
- 18:55Speaker 8: that plays together, stands up for each other. These are
- 18:59Speaker 8: things that could be questioned in the past, and hopefully
- 19:02Speaker 8: this will continue. Because again, they're going to need all
- 19:05Speaker 8: of this. They're going to need intangibles to be successful.
- 19:08Speaker 8: They still don't have the reliance on high-end talent to
- 19:12Speaker 8: win games like some teams do. This is a team
- 19:15Speaker 8: that needs every kind of intangible to help them grind
- 19:18Speaker 8: through to get what they need.
- 19:20Speaker 3: John Forslund joining us right now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Again,
- 19:23Speaker 3: the Kraken taking on Tampa Bay. And we're going to
- 19:25Speaker 3: get to that test here coming up in just a bit.
- 19:27Speaker 2: But, Johnny, you touched on the fact that this team
- 19:29Speaker 2: is still searching for a top-end kind of guy. We've
- 19:32Speaker 2: had the conversation before on how development certainly matters. But
- 19:35Speaker 2: for the short term, they're going to have to rely
- 19:37Speaker 2: on some of the parts, lines one through line four.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And I think the returns are pretty promising in that,
- 19:43Speaker 2: you know, figuring this out right now, small sample size,
- 19:45Speaker 2: but your top nine guys as far as scoring are
- 19:49Speaker 2: near point per game. and they're spread across all four
- 19:51Speaker 2: lines plus a couple of d-men in there in vince
- 19:54Speaker 2: dunn and brandon montour so with what they had to
- 19:58Speaker 2: get out and do offensively are there any surprises right
- 20:01Speaker 2: now in this mix as far as who is pushing
- 20:03Speaker 2: in so far for offense.
- 20:06Speaker 8: No, I think it's obvious that the fourth line contribution,
- 20:08Speaker 8: the Freddie Goudreau line, would be the most surprising, right?
- 20:11Speaker 8: That they've been able to produce as many points as
- 20:13Speaker 8: they have. That's pretty obvious to everybody. But I really
- 20:18Speaker 8: believe that there's two things that have happened here. Number one,
- 20:22Speaker 8: the emergence of Berkeley Catton. Berkeley Catton now looks like
- 20:26Speaker 8: a reliable National Hockey League center that has the potential
- 20:30Speaker 8: to continue to take steps to put them at the
- 20:33Speaker 8: high end of the lineup. And hopefully at the end
- 20:36Speaker 8: of the season, maybe he is. And in the meantime,
- 20:40Speaker 8: I think what's happened here, because some of these younger guys,
- 20:44Speaker 8: even Sam Miscavige being.
- 20:45Speaker 9: New, McMahon being new, but some of.
- 20:47Speaker 8: These guys have pushed the guys who've been with the
- 20:51Speaker 8: team for a while to a new place. Starting with
- 20:54Speaker 8: Jordan Eberle, who scores the first goal of the season.
- 20:58Speaker 8: You know, I think he's been great. McCann has been great.
- 21:02Speaker 8: Chandler Stevenson. who takes a lot of hits.
- 21:06Speaker 9: For what reason, I still don't know. I know some
- 21:09Speaker 9: of his metrics.
- 21:10Speaker 8: Might not be appealing, but I think fans have to
- 21:13Speaker 8: understand the guy carries water.
- 21:15Speaker 9: The guy does a lot of dirty work.
- 21:17Speaker 8: For this team because nobody else can. He checks top-end
- 21:21Speaker 8: players every game. He takes every D-zone draw imaginable. These
- 21:25Speaker 8: are things that are vitally important. Now he leads the
- 21:27Speaker 8: team in, in, in, in road assists.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Right.
- 21:31Speaker 8: So like, he's been a big part of winning four
- 21:33Speaker 8: out of five games on the road so far. Uh,
- 21:36Speaker 8: Maddie Baniers, who's gone, I believe three games without a
- 21:39Speaker 8: point that's okay because his game is so solid at
- 21:44Speaker 8: both ends of the rink. And he's a young leader
- 21:48Speaker 8: right now and his points will come. So that's kind
- 21:51Speaker 8: of good news, bad news, because everybody else is contributing.
- 21:55Speaker 8: The points haven't fallen yet for number 10. But maybe
- 21:58Speaker 8: it happens tonight. It's going to happen at some point.
- 22:01Speaker 9: And then, you know, he's going to continue to get
- 22:05Speaker 9: better and better.
- 22:05Speaker 8: But I think, you know, for Beneers, I hope he
- 22:08Speaker 8: doesn't stretch his game out to get on the score sheet.
- 22:11Speaker 9: Because whatever he's doing right now is just fine. You know,
- 22:15Speaker 9: it's an effective line with McCann and Samaskevich. The Stevenson
- 22:18Speaker 9: line has been great.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Catton is getting more out of Shane Wright than we've
- 22:22Speaker 8: seen over the years.
- 22:24Speaker 9: So that's good.
- 22:26Speaker 8: And then quietly on that line, you know, Kapokako makes
- 22:29Speaker 8: a contribution. So we're talking about 12 forwards in a
- 22:32Speaker 8: positive way from a point production standpoint.
- 22:35Speaker 9: For this team, I mean, that's the most surprising thing, probably.
- 22:39Speaker 3: John, you mentioned Berkley Catton.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I'll get back to him just on this point where,
- 22:42Speaker 2: you know, he said he gained weight roughly 5-10 pounds
- 22:46Speaker 2: here from this last summer. That certainly helps, and I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 2: I certainly agree. He looks faster, he looks more confident,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and those points are certainly going to come. The big
- 22:54Speaker 2: question here amongst the general public in this area is,
- 22:58Speaker 2: what's it going to take for him to play more minutes,
- 23:01Speaker 2: play higher in the lineup. And we respect that because
- 23:05Speaker 2: of just how reliable that Chandler Stevenson has been.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And I'll point this out, too, for face-offs as well.
- 23:11Speaker 3: He's been great.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Power plays-wise, 15 of 17 draws, he's won. Puck possession's
- 23:15Speaker 2: a big thing, certainly. But when you factor in where
- 23:18Speaker 2: he's playing, Beneers is playing, what's it going to take
- 23:22Speaker 2: to get him higher in the lineup, Cat and Bean?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Is it more production this year, or do you think
- 23:26Speaker 2: more patience for next year?
- 23:29Speaker 9: No, I think it is more production. And I w
- 23:33Speaker 9: I would just say, it's a great question.
- 23:35Speaker 8: I would just say to everybody, let it, let it be,
- 23:38Speaker 8: you know, like the old song, you know, let, let,
- 23:40Speaker 8: let the, let these things happen.
- 23:43Speaker 9: And you can't rush a 20 year old. You just
- 23:45Speaker 9: let them play in the slot. He's in right now.
- 23:48Speaker 8: I would wager as we get to February and March,
- 23:51Speaker 8: I think it's going to be different. I think he
- 23:53Speaker 8: will be relied on to be a point producer and
- 23:57Speaker 8: move up in the order, uh, There'll be a day
- 23:59Speaker 8: where he's the number one center.
- 24:02Speaker 9: I believe that.
- 24:03Speaker 8: And then, you know, they do have some, some future
- 24:07Speaker 8: with that position with Kat and O'Brien and all, you know,
- 24:10Speaker 8: as you go down the list here and Maddie Beneers,
- 24:12Speaker 8: who's still a young player at 23.
- 24:14Speaker 9: So, I mean, you know, that that's, that's a good thing.
- 24:17Speaker 8: Cause you always want to be strong down the middle,
- 24:20Speaker 8: but I would just watch the process because again, last
- 24:23Speaker 8: year at this time, he was just trying to find
- 24:26Speaker 8: his way and it was ugly. And then when he
- 24:28Speaker 8: did find his way, he had to go through a
- 24:30Speaker 8: learning curve. And then when we got post Olympics, when
- 24:34Speaker 8: everybody else was struggling, this kid started to show off
- 24:37Speaker 8: his offensive instincts and you could see it.
- 24:41Speaker 9: And then he's come back.
- 24:42Speaker 8: And I thought from the very first day of camp
- 24:44Speaker 8: and you know, we, we watched every workout. I mean,
- 24:47Speaker 8: he was noticeable every day and it's still that way,
- 24:51Speaker 8: but everybody else has kind of decided, okay, we, We've
- 24:54Speaker 8: got a job to do here, and they're doing it.
- 24:56Speaker 9: So that's my point.
- 24:57Speaker 8: I think in a quiet way, Catton's emergence, and he's
- 25:01Speaker 8: got a great personality.
- 25:02Speaker 9: I think he's really loved by all his teammates.
- 25:05Speaker 8: But that aspect, that there is some legitimate youthfulness to
- 25:10Speaker 8: their attack, that's pushing the other guys to do what
- 25:13Speaker 8: they're doing. So give it time. Give it time, because
- 25:16Speaker 8: it's going to happen for him. And that's an opinion
- 25:19Speaker 8: that's shared among other people who are watching the team,
- 25:22Speaker 8: you know, that as I get around the league, And
- 25:24Speaker 8: talk to people about the Kraken. I get a lot
- 25:26Speaker 8: of questions about Berkeley Cat, and it's all positive. So
- 25:30Speaker 8: I think hockey people see that.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Tampa Bay is coming up here for tonight. First of
- 25:34Speaker 2: two matchups. And John, you mentioned just how strict of
- 25:37Speaker 2: a test this is going to be. And I think
- 25:38Speaker 2: it all begins with the guy that's still coaching them
- 25:40Speaker 2: and John Cooper. They've got still a lot of rock
- 25:42Speaker 2: stars from those cup winning teams. Nikita Kucherov, you still
- 25:46Speaker 2: have Braden Point there. Jake Gensel there as well. Andre
- 25:49Speaker 2: Vasilevsky could go and he's had maybe a down season
- 25:53Speaker 2: to begin this, but he's been so ironclad tough on
- 25:56Speaker 2: this team. So to you, what's the biggest key here
- 25:58Speaker 2: for tonight?
- 26:00Speaker 8: Well, the key is to just maintain, you know, your
- 26:04Speaker 8: same level, you know, play. I'm talking about the Kraken,
- 26:09Speaker 8: you know, play your game. See how it measures, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 8: see how it measures.
- 26:14Speaker 9: Five on five. This is an exceptional team.
- 26:18Speaker 8: You mentioned all the weapons that they have, the reigning
- 26:21Speaker 8: MVP in Kucherov. You know, he's got a lot of
- 26:23Speaker 8: different dynamics in play here. They've got a grinding nature
- 26:28Speaker 8: to their game, which I think gets overlooked because that's
- 26:30Speaker 8: what John Cooper wants. He wants them to check hard.
- 26:34Speaker 8: He wants them to check for their chances. He wants
- 26:36Speaker 8: them to be a defensive-minded team. They go at it
- 26:38Speaker 8: with 11 forwards and 7 defensemen. They do that on
- 26:42Speaker 8: a regular basis. They're going to do that again tonight.
- 26:44Speaker 9: That always means.
- 26:45Speaker 8: That your upper end of the lineup, your Kucherov, your Point,
- 26:48Speaker 8: your Brandon Hagels, who's a burgeoning superstar in his own right,
- 26:53Speaker 8: Anthony Sorelli, and all these guys– Get extra ice time
- 26:56Speaker 8: as forwards because you have an extra defenseman dressed. The
- 26:59Speaker 8: only player that's kind of odd is like Victor Hedman
- 27:02Speaker 8: has gone through a lot of emotional stuff of late.
- 27:07Speaker 8: He's trying to get through some of that. Took a
- 27:09Speaker 8: leave of absence last year. He's been one of the
- 27:12Speaker 8: all-time greats, one of the all-time great leaders.
- 27:14Speaker 9: In the game.
- 27:15Speaker 8: But he's a spare part on the back end. You know,
- 27:17Speaker 8: he doesn't play a lot. His ice time has been diminished.
- 27:20Speaker 8: And that just tells you that they've taken steps as
- 27:22Speaker 8: a team. They added John Carlson. He's been a good
- 27:26Speaker 8: add for them. And they've managed to have a really
- 27:29Speaker 8: good record, aside from playing at Madison Square Garden. They've
- 27:31Speaker 8: lost twice already there. They can't win in New York.
- 27:36Speaker 8: So their only two blemishes have been two sour games,
- 27:39Speaker 8: two duds they've thrown out at MSG for whatever reason.
- 27:43Speaker 8: And you're right about Vasilevsky.
- 27:44Speaker 9: He can be a little bit better, but he's a
- 27:46Speaker 9: Hall of Famer, and he will be. So this is
- 27:50Speaker 9: something tonight.
- 27:51Speaker 6: Win or lose.
- 27:52Speaker 9: I'm going to look at style of play.
- 27:54Speaker 8: I'm going to look at the Kraken and how competitive
- 27:57Speaker 8: they are tonight. I'm not going to worry about whether
- 27:59Speaker 8: or not they're 6-2. If they're 6-2, we can have
- 28:01Speaker 8: a parade. If they lose the game, okay, how did
- 28:05Speaker 8: they lose the game? Were they completely outclassed? Was it
- 28:07Speaker 8: like the Vegas game? Or is it going to be
- 28:09Speaker 8: a little bit different? Because this is as similar as
- 28:13Speaker 8: we saw just a few days ago when Vegas came
- 28:16Speaker 8: to Seattle.
- 28:17Speaker 9: You know, that was a big test, and they failed.
- 28:19Speaker 9: And they know it, and they haven't lost since. So
- 28:21Speaker 9: we'll see how it measures out tonight.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Can't wait for it here. John, appreciate you. Thank you.
- 28:25Speaker 2: You had the early morning flight, so I don't know
- 28:27Speaker 2: if we're going to let you go now and take
- 28:29Speaker 2: a nap or whatever you have going here for the afternoon.
- 28:31Speaker 3: But let's do this again soon, though. Thank you.
- 28:34Speaker 9: I never sleep, Mike.
- 28:35Speaker 3: No, you never. You never do, John. Thank you.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Have a great show tonight. Appreciate you, John. John Forslund
- 28:42Speaker 2: joining us here in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Man, this
- 28:44Speaker 2: is going to be a fun one. Tampa Bay is
- 28:46Speaker 2: coming in, and as John mentioned, all the rock stars
- 28:49Speaker 2: they have. The reigning Hart Trophy winner, Andre Vasilevsky, you
- 28:54Speaker 2: name it, and it's going to be a big, big
- 28:56Speaker 2: measuring stick. It can be cliche, but that's what certainly
- 28:58Speaker 2: applies here. for the Kraken and Tampa Bay here for tonight.
- 29:02Speaker 2: But nonetheless, great start, 5-2. Once again, coverage at 3.30.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Our puck drops a little past 4 o'clock right here,
- 29:09Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM. On the Seahawks side, John, of course, had
- 29:14Speaker 2: the bright lights on him. We joked about this, but this.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Is for real.
- 29:18Speaker 2: On the field with the Seahawks facing the Broncos this evening,
- 29:22Speaker 2: there is one guy, there is one name, where the
- 29:26Speaker 2: door is blown so wide open, you have everything lining
- 29:31Speaker 2: up for you. The table is set. Utensils, plates, big
- 29:36Speaker 2: huge plate of protein, sides, appetizers.
- 29:41Speaker 3: You've got to go in and eat.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Green bean casserole.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Oh, you got me hungry now already.
- 29:47Speaker 2: There is one name that has got to shine the
- 29:50Speaker 2: brightest under the bright lights here tonight for the Seahawks
- 29:53Speaker 2: and Broncos. We'll tell you who it is next year
- 29:55Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJR FM. 4-9-4-5-1, Tacoma Dodge Tech's line is
- 30:06Speaker 2: open for business. Big thanks to John Forslund joining us
- 30:10Speaker 2: here a few moments ago to tee up the Kraken
- 30:13Speaker 2: and Tampa Bay here for tonight. And first off, if
- 30:17Speaker 2: the Kraken goes 6-2, does that change your perception of
- 30:20Speaker 2: this team with a great game 4-9-4-5-1 Texas right now?
- 30:24Speaker 2: But this helps us loop right back here into the
- 30:27Speaker 2: Seahawks conversation about perception. Because unfortunately in sports, perception is reality.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Like it or not, whether you talk about Peyton Manning,
- 30:39Speaker 2: the best golfer to not win a major, even to
- 30:42Speaker 2: this day and age, Sam Darnold, and the perception of turnovers.
- 30:47Speaker 2: There is still perception that he is still a turnover-prone quarterback.
- 30:51Speaker 2: And does this hurt the Seahawks? Because against the Broncos tonight...
- 30:57Speaker 2: You've got a secondary that is so banged up. You
- 31:01Speaker 2: have Patrick Sertan who will not play. And how much
- 31:05Speaker 2: is JSN loving live Jess with no Sertan back there?
- 31:08Speaker 6: I mean.
- 31:11Speaker 3: How many?
- 31:12Speaker 2: How many plays, how many deep balls are we looking
- 31:14Speaker 2: at here?
- 31:14Speaker 4: How many deep balls?
- 31:16Speaker 5: I mean, I just see JSN getting a large crack
- 31:19Speaker 5: of yards after catch as well.
- 31:22Speaker 4: So deep balls... They don't do that very often. They
- 31:26Speaker 4: really don't. So I'm going to go seven.
- 31:29Speaker 3: He's still going to eat, though.
- 31:30Speaker 4: You're still going to eat.
- 31:31Speaker 3: With no Sertan back there, he's going to eat.
- 31:32Speaker 4: You just don't need the deep ball in these situations.
- 31:36Speaker 5: I just think JSN's ability to break free, especially after
- 31:39Speaker 5: the catch, will be more valuable in this game than
- 31:42Speaker 5: the deep ball.
- 31:42Speaker 2: And on top of that, who's going to eat the
- 31:44Speaker 2: most here out of the backfield? Because that's a big
- 31:47Speaker 2: question mark. And I do want to be clear because, again,
- 31:49Speaker 2: the 12-man roundtable set this up so well. Earlier this morning.
- 31:54Speaker 2: About this running back situation. And I think talking to others.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Here's where I'm at with the running back situation here.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Greg Bell made a great point.
- 32:03Speaker 3: This morning.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Where in the scheme of turnovers. This is why. Jadarian
- 32:10Speaker 2: Price was benched. And not Sam Darnold. Because you judge
- 32:15Speaker 2: a quarterback differently. Versus a running back. With the ability
- 32:19Speaker 2: to hang on to the football. Sam Darnold's job is
- 32:24Speaker 2: to sling it.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Now, how quick should he be slinging it?
- 32:28Speaker 2: That's the reason why they're going back, and they're trying
- 32:31Speaker 2: to revamp the playbook all.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Of a sudden.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Well, it was something that Sam actually addressed in his
- 32:35Speaker 5: press conference earlier this week, is the ball not coming
- 32:38Speaker 5: out as quickly. But as Greg brought up, I do
- 32:42Speaker 5: think it has a lot to do with the fact
- 32:44Speaker 5: that they can't make the run a threat.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Now, honestly, if I'm looking at my quarterback at about
- 32:50Speaker 2: week six and thinking, why is he talking about going
- 32:53Speaker 2: back to training camp?
- 32:54Speaker 3: I'm a little bit worried.
- 32:55Speaker 2: But to Hugh Millen's point this morning, there's about roughly
- 32:58Speaker 2: 15 guys on this planet who can do this at
- 33:01Speaker 2: an elite level in how they do it. So you
- 33:04Speaker 2: have to work around the flaws of your quarterback and
- 33:07Speaker 2: those natural flaws as well. Sam Darnold may throw more picks.
- 33:12Speaker 2: The question for me is, can he avoid it on
- 33:14Speaker 2: the very first play of the game?
- 33:15Speaker 5: Well, we'd really like to see that avoided again. And
- 33:18Speaker 5: you know that that is immediately what they went back
- 33:20Speaker 5: and worked on.
- 33:21Speaker 2: So I'm kind of sliding into this here with the
- 33:24Speaker 2: bright lights for tonight. Who needs to shine the brightest
- 33:29Speaker 2: under the biggest lights on this stage? You could argue
- 33:33Speaker 2: it's got to be JSN because he leads the entire
- 33:36Speaker 2: planet in everything receiving-wise. It could be the running backs
- 33:39Speaker 2: because you've got no Price, who's out. You've got no
- 33:43Speaker 2: Zach Charbonnet, who's out. But should George Helani be taking
- 33:48Speaker 2: RB1 reps? That may not be a given. Emmanuel Wilson
- 33:52Speaker 2: as well, too. And then you have a new name
- 33:54Speaker 2: now into the mix, Robert Henry.
- 33:56Speaker 5: I mean, don't Darnold and JSN go hand in hand
- 34:00Speaker 5: with who's eating. It's like someone's passing the pork over here.
- 34:03Speaker 3: So it's low-hanging fruit, but it's the obvious one. It's
- 34:07Speaker 3: got to be Sam Darnold.
- 34:09Speaker 2: And I'm not asking Sam Darnold to go out and
- 34:12Speaker 2: be perfect.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I am asking Sam.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Darnold to go out and look like a normal quarterback
- 34:18Speaker 2: with throwing the football. So does your perception of Sam
- 34:22Speaker 2: Darnold change with a good game tonight? Your thoughts, 49451, folks.
- 34:28Speaker 2: In the three wins, the Seahawks have turned the ball
- 34:30Speaker 2: over twice. They have turned this over seven times in
- 34:34Speaker 2: their two losses. Four of those turnovers in the losses
- 34:38Speaker 2: have been INTs thrown by Darnold. So this playbook's getting
- 34:42Speaker 2: a trim. He'll have JSN to throw to, no Sertan
- 34:47Speaker 2: to defend him, and you have virtually a skeleton crew
- 34:51Speaker 2: of a running back situation. So Sam Darnold, we are
- 34:55Speaker 2: asking you to just play like a normal quarterback.
- 35:00Speaker 3: INTs are okay. Minimize the INT.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Yeah, there you go. There you go.
- 35:05Speaker 5: Just, I mean, you know, won a game. And also,
- 35:07Speaker 5: whoever is at RB1, they will get carries, right? George Helani,
- 35:11Speaker 5: most likely, right? Whatever Robert Henry Jr.
- 35:14Speaker 6: Gets, sure.
- 35:16Speaker 4: But you guys have to minimize.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Just hang on to the football. Yes, that's it.
- 35:20Speaker 4: That's it.
- 35:21Speaker 2: So does your perception change of Sam Darnall with a
- 35:24Speaker 2: good game tonight? Texas right now, 4-9-4-5-1 with the Seahawks
- 35:28Speaker 2: taking on the Broncos.
- 35:29Speaker 3: All right. Greg Bell is not going away. He's on
- 35:32Speaker 3: a plane right now.
- 35:33Speaker 2: But he and Farhan Lalji with the magic of technology
- 35:38Speaker 2: had a conversation. We're going to also dive into the perceived...
- 35:43Speaker 2: Captain Checkdown of Bo Nix. How does this factor in
- 35:47Speaker 2: for Seahawks strategy plus a trip around the NFC West?
- 35:50Speaker 2: The great Farhan Lalji with Greg. Right around the corner
- 35:53Speaker 2: right here.
- 35:54Speaker 6: On 93.3 KJRFM.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 36:06Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Brought to you by Frostbrewed, Coors Light, as cold as
- 36:10Speaker 2: the Rockies. Wake up, 12s, it's game day. Seahawks, Broncos
- 36:15Speaker 2: tonight in the national spotlight. JSN will play. No Zach Charbonnet,
- 36:20Speaker 2: no linebacker, Drake Thomas. They have been ruled out. And
- 36:23Speaker 2: if you love throwback jerseys, you got throwback jerseys for tonight.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Those are going to pop on TV, by the way.
- 36:31Speaker 4: They look so nice.
- 36:32Speaker 5: And there's so many loyal, very loyal, longtime Seahawks fans
- 36:36Speaker 5: that get to see maybe one of their favorites once again.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I remember going to a game when I was growing
- 36:41Speaker 2: up and my mom and dad moved us to L.A.,
- 36:44Speaker 2: saw them play the Raiders back at the old Coliseum
- 36:47Speaker 2: during the Bo Jackson era.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Like the black hole?
- 36:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:50Speaker 3: With the white tops, silver pants, those things popped. Yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:54Speaker 10: Popped.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Kraken in Tampa Bay tonight. Lightning are up next. 4
- 36:58Speaker 3: o'clock puck drop again on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Pre-game, 3.30. I'll be right back in the same chair
- 37:04Speaker 2: for that. Everett Fitzhugh, Al Koniski at in Tampa Bay.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Big thanks again to John Forsen for hanging out with
- 37:10Speaker 2: us last hour. Sounders falling to FC Dallas last night.
- 37:15Speaker 8: 1-0.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Kick to Silva. Ferreira got the lone goal in the
- 37:19Speaker 2: game for Dallas. Sounders up next. We'll face Montreal. 7.30 Saturday.
- 37:25Speaker 2: The Huskies taking on Purdue. 5 o'clock kickoff tomorrow night.
- 37:29Speaker 3: 1 p.m. pregame right here on your home for the Huskies.
- 37:33Speaker 9: 93.3 KJRFM.
- 37:35Speaker 2: DeMond Williams out in what is being termed as a, quote,
- 37:38Speaker 2: significant rib injury, end quote. So have we begun the
- 37:44Speaker 2: Elijah Brown era? We'll find out. He'll start at QB1
- 37:49Speaker 2: for his first time ever at UW. Grab your popcorn.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Speaking of popcorn, grab your popcorn as always. For Greg
- 37:58Speaker 2: Bell with Farhan Lalji, right now.
- 38:05Speaker 6: And now for more on the Broncos and the Seahawks
- 38:07Speaker 6: and our trip around the NFL each Thursday, it's Farhan Lalji,
- 38:10Speaker 6: TSN Canada, the NFL guy from TSN Canada, who joins
- 38:15Speaker 6: us every week at this time. We're in Denver. You're
- 38:17Speaker 6: in Denver. I'm on my way to Denver. Farhan, good morning,
- 38:20Speaker 6: good afternoon. What is wrong with the Broncos' offense and
- 38:24Speaker 6: Bo Nix being a 59% passer with the shortest routes
- 38:27Speaker 6: and shortest attempts in the leagues?
- 38:30Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I think it's a lot of the same.
- 38:32Speaker 10: In fact, there's been a level of regression and now
- 38:34Speaker 10: we've seen Sean McVay take over the play calling. But
- 38:37Speaker 10: going into it, I was down there at their training
- 38:39Speaker 10: camp and the conversation was, how do we make this
- 38:41Speaker 10: guy more efficient? Deep ball passer, right? His last season
- 38:45Speaker 10: is complete. completion percentage was good. He took very few sacks,
- 38:47Speaker 10: you know, in terms of running. He was like right
- 38:50Speaker 10: behind Josh Allen, right? Like there was just a lot
- 38:52Speaker 10: to his game. They just needed to add this piece.
- 38:54Speaker 10: They got Jalen Waddle in the offseason. That was supposed
- 38:57Speaker 10: to get them to the next level. And it hasn't
- 38:59Speaker 10: come close. And, you know, when you look at it,
- 39:01Speaker 10: it's like all the evaluation around it has been this
- 39:04Speaker 10: guy is escaping the pocket when there's no reason to.
- 39:07Speaker 10: He's been pressured on 14.7% of his dropbacks offensively. During
- 39:11Speaker 10: these games and, you know, especially in the first quarter
- 39:14Speaker 10: of these games, early on, when you're trying to get
- 39:17Speaker 10: this guy into a rhythm and you want to pull
- 39:18Speaker 10: out of his hands quickly, he's refusing to do that.
- 39:21Speaker 10: And it's not.
- 39:22Speaker 7: Because of pressure.
- 39:23Speaker 10: So, you know, the explosive play rate you talked about,
- 39:26Speaker 10: he's hit on explosive passes on just 5.7 of his
- 39:29Speaker 10: throws in the pocket, again in the first quarter. That's
- 39:32Speaker 10: tied to the lowest rate in the league, so things
- 39:34Speaker 10: just don't start well, and then you wind up pressing.
- 39:37Speaker 10: We know he's good in the fourth quarter, but in
- 39:39Speaker 10: the first three, especially in the first... that ability to
- 39:43Speaker 10: function down the field and get through his progressions and
- 39:46Speaker 10: not bailing early, those are things he's still.
- 39:49Speaker 9: Going to need to learn.
- 39:49Speaker 10: And he can do them in the fourth. So you
- 39:51Speaker 10: know he's got the ability, but you'd love to see
- 39:53Speaker 10: it happen before games got to that point for the Broncos.
- 39:56Speaker 6: You're a Huskies fan, Farhan. Yesterday we had Parker Gabriel,
- 39:59Speaker 6: the Broncos beat writer for the Denver Post on our show,
- 40:03Speaker 6: and he talked about Jonah Coleman. And he was saying
- 40:05Speaker 6: how they really have big plans for the former Washington
- 40:08Speaker 6: Huskies running back, and now he's on injured reserve with
- 40:11Speaker 6: a high ankle sprain. Tonight's game will be the fourth
- 40:14Speaker 6: and final one on injury reserve, and Parker thinks that
- 40:17Speaker 6: Jonah Coleman, when he gets back next game in 10
- 40:19Speaker 6: days for Denver, that he will be full go at
- 40:21Speaker 6: Arizona and will probably be the one. They have J.K.
- 40:24Speaker 6: Dobbins as the one back right now, but he only
- 40:26Speaker 6: has 200-plus yards through five games. Nobody else on Denver's
- 40:30Speaker 6: roster has more than 15 carries through five games than J.K. Dobbins.
- 40:34Speaker 6: How much does Coleman... Coming back, perhaps change this Denver offense.
- 40:39Speaker 6: How much do you think Coleman and no consistent running
- 40:41Speaker 6: game has hurt Bo Nix?
- 40:44Speaker 10: Well, I mean, look, let's just look at the Seattle Seahawks,
- 40:47Speaker 10: and you can see the exact same situation, right, in
- 40:48Speaker 10: terms of their inability to consistently run the football. I mean,
- 40:51Speaker 10: the Seahawks have the fumble issues that the Broncos don't,
- 40:54Speaker 10: but in terms of a lack of efficiency, it's right there.
- 40:56Speaker 10: You know, I talked about the first three quarters of games,
- 40:58Speaker 10: their running backs have averaged 2.7 yards per carry, right? Like,
- 41:01Speaker 10: that's just not going to get it done. And when
- 41:03Speaker 10: I look at the Seahawks and people think, okay, well,
- 41:05Speaker 10: if Jadarian Presley gets the fumbles out of his system,
- 41:07Speaker 10: he's going to be able to give the Seahawks something. Yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 10: he's a more explosive player, but when he returns... He's
- 41:13Speaker 10: not going to be a mid-season player. He's still going
- 41:16Speaker 10: to be a rookie that's played two-ish games. Remember the
- 41:19Speaker 10: last game he got benched for a half, essentially, as
- 41:20Speaker 10: far as carries are concerned. It's going to take him
- 41:23Speaker 10: a while to get.
- 41:24Speaker 7: Up to speed.
- 41:24Speaker 10: I think the same thing is going to happen for
- 41:25Speaker 10: Jonah Coleman. And Jonah Coleman's had a history of.
- 41:27Speaker 7: Injuries, right?
- 41:28Speaker 5: Right?
- 41:28Speaker 10: Throughout his time and you done. And even before that. So,
- 41:30Speaker 10: you know, if he, can he function as a, as
- 41:33Speaker 10: a heavy load number one, or does he need to
- 41:36Speaker 10: be a part of a two running back system to
- 41:39Speaker 10: get the most out of what he can do when
- 41:41Speaker 10: he is getting touches? But yeah, I mean, when you
- 41:43Speaker 10: look at their past run rate, right? Like, um, 42%
- 41:48Speaker 10: was all they threw the football, right? And on early downs,
- 41:51Speaker 10: it was even more pronounced, even with Sean Payton taking over, right?
- 41:54Speaker 10: So this is a team that's going to want to
- 41:56Speaker 10: run the football until Bo Nix shows them that they
- 41:59Speaker 10: can put the offense on his shoulders, right? Like they
- 42:01Speaker 10: just want to do what Seattle wants to do on
- 42:03Speaker 10: some level right now. They just don't want the offense
- 42:04Speaker 10: to hurt it.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:06Speaker 10: In Seattle's case, the offense is hurting it with the
- 42:08Speaker 10: seven turnovers they've had in the last two years. At
- 42:10Speaker 10: least Denver's offense hasn't really hurt it.
- 42:13Speaker 9: Right.
- 42:13Speaker 10: And so they're going to continue to run the ball
- 42:15Speaker 10: just for that until Knicks can take the next step. And,
- 42:18Speaker 10: you know, for for Coleman's sake, I hope he's splitting carries.
- 42:21Speaker 10: Not a not a guy that's getting 80 percent of
- 42:24Speaker 10: the running back touches.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:26Speaker 6: That's what J.K. Dobbins is there for. And it looks
- 42:28Speaker 6: like that's what it'll be when Coleman comes back in
- 42:31Speaker 6: 10 days time when they play. This is a familiar
- 42:34Speaker 6: voice to foreign logic, familiar for those of you who
- 42:36Speaker 6: listen on KJR every day at this time. On Thursdays,
- 42:40Speaker 6: we're taking a trip around the NFL, specifically in Denver.
- 42:42Speaker 6: He's in Denver. I'm on my way there before the
- 42:44Speaker 6: Seahawks 3-2 play the Broncos 3-2 tonight in Mile High.
- 42:48Speaker 6: It's supposed to be decent weather, but it has turned fall,
- 42:51Speaker 6: 40 degrees, but the precipitation and the rain is supposed
- 42:53Speaker 6: to stop. You were in the press box with me
- 42:56Speaker 6: in Seattle last weekend, Farhan. What are you seeing in
- 42:59Speaker 6: Sam Darnold? Five interceptions in three games. Another really bad
- 43:03Speaker 6: interception to start a game. His first third down throws
- 43:06Speaker 6: into coverage when Renardo Green, the corner, was standing between
- 43:09Speaker 6: him and Smith and Jigba on an out route to
- 43:11Speaker 6: the sideline. What do you see in Sam Darnold? What
- 43:14Speaker 6: do you think he needs to do, the offense needs
- 43:16Speaker 6: to do, to fix that issue?
- 43:20Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, when I think of it, you know,
- 43:22Speaker 10: turnovers were a problem last year as well, right? And
- 43:24Speaker 10: they were this time of year. They were even later
- 43:26Speaker 10: when he did the four interception game against the Rams.
- 43:28Speaker 10: I think that was week eight. What's different is, is
- 43:31Speaker 10: that I think he still had some deep ball efficiency
- 43:33Speaker 10: last year. Now he's not trying to push the ball
- 43:35Speaker 10: down the field nearly as much. I think they're trying
- 43:37Speaker 10: to make him a bit of a game manager and
- 43:39Speaker 10: that's kind of not in his DNA, but a year
- 43:41Speaker 10: ago he had the run game to lean on.
- 43:43Speaker 8: Right.
- 43:43Speaker 10: And this year he doesn't have the run game to
- 43:45Speaker 10: lean on and just the lack of balance in this offense. And,
- 43:48Speaker 10: you know, I haven't seen the numbers through five weeks
- 43:51Speaker 10: a year ago in terms of how heavy this was
- 43:54Speaker 10: tilted towards Jackson, Smith and Jigba. I have to believe
- 43:56Speaker 10: it was somewhat close and, But like, there's nothing else
- 43:59Speaker 10: going on offensively for this team. When you look at
- 44:01Speaker 10: what they're paying Rashid Shaheed and the amount of touches
- 44:03Speaker 10: he's had, it's ridiculous, right? Like, and you know, we
- 44:06Speaker 10: talked about it during training camp, you and I did
- 44:08Speaker 10: about how they spent a lot of time, even in
- 44:10Speaker 10: off season OTAs and mini camp, trying to get Darnold
- 44:12Speaker 10: and Rashid Shaheed on the same page. And it looked
- 44:15Speaker 10: great during those times. And right now it's just not there, right?
- 44:19Speaker 10: Like in, in terms of, How they're trying to creatively
- 44:21Speaker 10: get him the ball. You see what happens. Two games ago,
- 44:24Speaker 10: they got him in the backfield on some tosses, but
- 44:27Speaker 10: that part of it's not there. I thought we'd see
- 44:30Speaker 10: more from Barner. I thought we'd see more from Kup.
- 44:33Speaker 10: It just seems like they're relying so heavily on JSN
- 44:35Speaker 10: without a run game.
- 44:36Speaker 7: It's become difficult.
- 44:37Speaker 10: I don't know that Darnold is significantly worse when it
- 44:42Speaker 10: comes to turnovers right now than he was at this
- 44:45Speaker 10: time last year. I hated the past is missing Jigba
- 44:47Speaker 10: for that first interception because he absolutely stared it down
- 44:50Speaker 10: on third down and just made it completely easy for
- 44:53Speaker 10: green to just step in front of it.
- 44:54Speaker 5: Right.
- 44:54Speaker 10: I mean, you know, you, you, you make sure high
- 44:56Speaker 10: school kids don't stare down receivers like that. And Sam
- 44:58Speaker 10: Darnold did that in that moment. So, you know, you
- 45:01Speaker 10: hope he can find some ways to kind of simplify
- 45:03Speaker 10: what he's doing, but you also don't want him to
- 45:05Speaker 10: be overly conservative because I just don't think that he's
- 45:08Speaker 10: at his best in when he attempts to game manage.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Okay. The corollary is what concerns you the most about
- 45:15Speaker 6: the three and two Seahawks? Is it what you just said?
- 45:17Speaker 6: Is it something else?
- 45:20Speaker 10: Oh, it's just that, right? And what concerns me is
- 45:22Speaker 10: they're going to have to deal with this for a month.
- 45:24Speaker 10: Because if you all of a sudden think that a
- 45:26Speaker 10: week from now, Zach Charbonnet is going to come back
- 45:28Speaker 10: and be the answer, Zach Charbonnet is going to be
- 45:30Speaker 10: coming off an ACL injury. Let me know the last
- 45:33Speaker 10: running back you've seen that on week one, coming back,
- 45:35Speaker 10: or any position player that's got to be able to run,
- 45:37Speaker 10: that they're really, really themselves week one. It's going to
- 45:42Speaker 10: take a few weeks. And then they're going to get
- 45:43Speaker 10: Jadarian Price in the lineup in two more weeks. And
- 45:46Speaker 10: that's going to take some time because he's still going
- 45:48Speaker 10: to be a rookie, right? So can they find a
- 45:50Speaker 10: way to make a knot in the rope here in
- 45:51Speaker 10: terms of their offense just not beating itself? The San
- 45:55Speaker 10: Francisco 49ers longest drive in that last game was 43 yards.
- 45:59Speaker 10: Like as much as Brock Purdy is being allotted this week,
- 46:02Speaker 10: Brock Purdy was incredibly average in that game. His passer
- 46:05Speaker 10: rating was below a hundred, you know, like he was
- 46:07Speaker 10: able to get something with that Josh Jobin and Mike
- 46:09Speaker 10: Evans matchup. But other than that, it like, he wasn't great, right?
- 46:14Speaker 10: Like defensively, this team is every bit as good, if
- 46:17Speaker 10: not better than they were a year ago. But the
- 46:20Speaker 10: offense is making it untenable for the defense. So they've
- 46:22Speaker 10: just got to find a way to stop turning the
- 46:25Speaker 10: ball over. And if they can do that, I think
- 46:27Speaker 10: their defense will put them in good enough positions that
- 46:29Speaker 10: they're going to find a way to win some football games.
- 46:31Speaker 6: Totally agree. If they don't turn the ball over, they'll
- 46:33Speaker 6: win every game in the schedule. Maybe not the Rams. But, yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 6: I'm with you. They'll beat Denver tonight. How about this week, right?
- 46:41Speaker 6: The Broncos' run defense is not very– their.
- 46:44Speaker 7: Defense is great.
- 46:45Speaker 6: 145 a game.
- 46:45Speaker 7: Their run defense is incredible.
- 46:47Speaker 10: Incredibly average. So here's an opportunity for Seattle to take it. Yeah.
- 46:52Speaker 10: And so Seattle had a couple of hundred yard rushing games, right?
- 46:54Speaker 10: Like they can manufacture it right. And, and by committee
- 46:58Speaker 10: and just get to a point where they can function,
- 47:01Speaker 10: just don't turn the ball over.
- 47:03Speaker 5: Right.
- 47:03Speaker 10: So like if ever there's a get right game for
- 47:06Speaker 10: the running game of Seattle, it's this, but let's see
- 47:08Speaker 10: if they can do it. I'll put the ball on
- 47:09Speaker 10: the ground.
- 47:10Speaker 6: And that would be Emmanuel Wilson. That looks like more
- 47:13Speaker 6: George Holley. We may see Robert Henry Jr. the first time.
- 47:16Speaker 10: A guy that had fumble problems in college, right? Like
- 47:18Speaker 10: Robert Henry, who can give them a burst and a
- 47:21Speaker 10: speed look that the other two backs don't possess, has
- 47:24Speaker 10: never touched a football in a National Football League game.
- 47:28Speaker 10: So now you're going to ask him to be a
- 47:30Speaker 10: pure rookie, take it, and then not fumble, which he
- 47:31Speaker 10: did a lot in college, right? But he could be
- 47:33Speaker 10: the answer if he can just protect the ball.
- 47:36Speaker 6: Exactly. Staying in the NFC West, Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada,
- 47:39Speaker 6: joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline from Denver. And
- 47:42Speaker 6: I'll be on my way there, and tonight we'll be
- 47:44Speaker 6: watching the Seahawks and the Broncos. But in the NFC West,
- 47:46Speaker 6: Sean McVay the other night, when the Rams and Buffalo
- 47:50Speaker 6: were just in a shootout with nobody really playing much
- 47:52Speaker 6: consistent defense, over time, he's moving inside the plus 40-yard line,
- 47:57Speaker 6: and then he just turtle-shelled it. I mean, he went
- 47:59Speaker 6: into complete Woody Hayes mode, and they go nowhere on offense, but...
- 48:05Speaker 6: basically took a knee almost offensively to set up a
- 48:08Speaker 6: 48-yard field goal that Nevis' kicker misses. Nevis isn't even
- 48:11Speaker 6: on the team now. He got the kick block from 48th.
- 48:14Speaker 6: Of course, the Bills, Josh Allen, one scramble there in
- 48:17Speaker 6: field goal range, and their kicker makes it, and they win,
- 48:19Speaker 6: and the Rams lose 37-34. What did you make of
- 48:22Speaker 6: McVay going anti-McVay and ultra-conservative there for a 48-yard field goal?
- 48:28Speaker 10: Yeah, it was weird. They were half-pregnant, right? Like, if
- 48:30Speaker 10: they wanted to do that, kick the ball on first down.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:33Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 48:33Speaker 10: Like, why go through that? Were you basically just risking
- 48:37Speaker 10: a fumble to move the ball, you know, 10 feet
- 48:39Speaker 10: to the right? Like, it made no sense to me.
- 48:41Speaker 10: And obviously, it made no sense to McVay after the fact.
- 48:43Speaker 10: He's been pretty good at owning these things. You just
- 48:46Speaker 10: hope you don't have to own too many of them
- 48:47Speaker 10: as you go here. But, yeah, it was very out
- 48:50Speaker 10: of character. I would have thought they would have play-actioned
- 48:52Speaker 10: and would have found a way to push the ball
- 48:54Speaker 10: down the field a little bit. I don't know that
- 48:56Speaker 10: they needed to go for a touchdown, but if you're
- 48:57Speaker 10: going to run plays in that setting, run some plays, right? Otherwise,
- 49:02Speaker 10: they should have just kicked the ball two plays earlier.
- 49:04Speaker 6: That's two losses now that McVay has pinned on himself.
- 49:08Speaker 6: The trip to Australia that was an absolute boomerang, 21-hour
- 49:11Speaker 6: flight boomerang while the 49ers spent almost a week there,
- 49:15Speaker 6: and now the end of the game against the Bills.
- 49:18Speaker 6: They're two and a half. 2-3, the Rams are, three
- 49:21Speaker 6: games back right now, really three and a half back
- 49:23Speaker 6: because they've lost the one head-to-head so far with the 49ers.
- 49:27Speaker 6: I can't see them losing for a while now. Their
- 49:28Speaker 6: schedule gets softer. They got the Cardinals this weekend. Any
- 49:33Speaker 6: concern with the Rams, or do you think this is
- 49:34Speaker 6: going to even itself out?
- 49:37Speaker 10: No, it'll even itself out much like the Seahawks, right?
- 49:39Speaker 10: For them, it's like their offense is so good. Their
- 49:42Speaker 10: defense is still got some challenges. I can't believe that
- 49:46Speaker 10: they did not try to spy Josh Allen at all
- 49:50Speaker 10: in the late stages of that game. And he puts
- 49:51Speaker 10: you in a real pickle, right? Like I've been critical
- 49:53Speaker 10: of the Rams defensively for the amount of zone they've played. Um,
- 49:56Speaker 10: because you've got two elite corners and you're paying them
- 49:59Speaker 10: 45 million and you should be playing man in certain
- 50:02Speaker 10: situations a lot more than they've done. And then in that,
- 50:04Speaker 10: and you know, you also want to play some, but
- 50:07Speaker 10: one of the reasons you want to play zone is
- 50:09Speaker 10: if you've got a scrambling quarterback, right. And you can
- 50:11Speaker 10: keep your eyes on him and not have your eyes
- 50:13Speaker 10: over the top, watching how they tried to play. They'd
- 50:15Speaker 10: have your middle linebacker there. As soon as a tight
- 50:17Speaker 10: end crossed his face, that linebacker locked out of the
- 50:20Speaker 10: tight end and created massive run lanes from Josh Allen
- 50:22Speaker 10: to run right at the middle. regardless of where they
- 50:24Speaker 10: were on the field in the fourth quarter and in overtime. So,
- 50:27Speaker 10: you know, I certainly questioned how they were doing it
- 50:30Speaker 10: in that situation. You know, the one thing with McVay,
- 50:32Speaker 10: as you talk about what he says post-game, he's got
- 50:34Speaker 10: a tremendous amount of emotional intelligence, right? That was one
- 50:37Speaker 10: of the things, even his first year, when they got
- 50:39Speaker 10: to the Super Bowl and then eventually a couple years
- 50:41Speaker 10: later when they won it, that's what a lot of
- 50:43Speaker 10: the veterans, you know, Andrew Whitworth and others talked about, that.
- 50:46Speaker 7: For a young guy, he had that.
- 50:47Speaker 10: So in these moments, he's willing to hang it on himself.
- 50:50Speaker 7: But you always win that risk, right?
- 50:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:52Speaker 10: You can't hang it on yourself too often. Otherwise the
- 50:54Speaker 10: owner is going to eventually start believing you.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 50:56Speaker 10: So, uh, you know, I got a ton of time
- 51:00Speaker 10: for McVeigh as a coach. I think he's a brilliant guy.
- 51:02Speaker 10: You know, one of the things he said this week and,
- 51:04Speaker 10: and Sean Payton, um, was tied in an article with
- 51:07Speaker 10: it that, The longer you do this, the more conservative
- 51:10Speaker 10: you get, the more data you have, the more can
- 51:12Speaker 10: dumb you down as a coach, right? It's not always
- 51:15Speaker 10: a good thing. And I just think that from the
- 51:18Speaker 10: perspective of a play caller like Sean McVay, you want
- 51:20Speaker 10: to do what made you successful. And that was be
- 51:23Speaker 10: creative and be willing to take chances. and you know
- 51:27Speaker 10: go against the norms go against the grain so i
- 51:29Speaker 10: think that uh you know he's aware of it and
- 51:32Speaker 10: he's got to get back to being that guy if
- 51:33Speaker 10: he wants to have that kind of success because his
- 51:35Speaker 10: offensive pieces are so dynamic you look at the one-offs
- 51:38Speaker 10: in that game it was a 40 completed passes no
- 51:41Speaker 10: turnovers like the rams did so much right but some
- 51:45Speaker 10: conservative decision making late prevented them from from being the
- 51:48Speaker 10: best of themselves.
- 51:49Speaker 6: What impressed you about the 49ers it wasn't their offense
- 51:52Speaker 6: they didn't get going to the very end and They
- 51:54Speaker 6: got their 11 points by throwing at Josh Joe. But
- 51:57Speaker 6: what impressed you about what San Francisco did in Seattle?
- 52:01Speaker 10: Yeah, look, I just think there's a poise that Brock
- 52:03Speaker 10: Purdy possesses that even when things aren't there, he's not
- 52:06Speaker 10: going to make mistakes, right? And, you know, I know
- 52:10Speaker 10: they turn the ball over in other ways. He did
- 52:11Speaker 10: throw one interception in that game. But generally, he plays
- 52:15Speaker 10: with the poise of a veteran quarterback. And he's so
- 52:18Speaker 10: comfortable in the pocket. He's so comfortable extending and escaping.
- 52:21Speaker 10: So I think he's always going to give them a chance.
- 52:23Speaker 10: And I do believe injuries are going to come. It's
- 52:25Speaker 10: just the way things happen in San Francisco. But I
- 52:28Speaker 10: think he's more equipped than he's ever been at any time. So,
- 52:31Speaker 10: you know, this game came down to Seattle's turnovers, but
- 52:34Speaker 10: you know, I also think it was, it was Brock
- 52:38Speaker 10: Purdy and just his ability to, to be on top
- 52:42Speaker 10: of every situation.
- 52:46Speaker 6: I'm staying in the NFC West. The last one for
- 52:48Speaker 6: you is Marvin, the Marvin Harrison trade, the second round pick,
- 52:52Speaker 6: and then they swap late round picks, Arizona to sending
- 52:55Speaker 6: Marvin Harrison to Houston, the, It seems like the Texans
- 52:59Speaker 6: are going for it, even though they're one and four
- 53:00Speaker 6: and three games back of the Jaguars in their division.
- 53:03Speaker 6: But getting him out of the division for Seattle is
- 53:06Speaker 6: good news for Marvin Harrison. But what do you think
- 53:09Speaker 6: about a second-round pick for him in that whole trade?
- 53:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 10: I mean, it's probably the best you can do right now.
- 53:16Speaker 10: I mean, you know, you look at guys like that
- 53:17Speaker 10: and you think of JJ McCarthy and what he wound
- 53:19Speaker 10: up going for in his trade to New York.
- 53:22Speaker 7: And it does happen.
- 53:23Speaker 10: Like you get devalued really quick. It's like a car.
- 53:24Speaker 10: You take it off the line and it depreciates instantly.
- 53:26Speaker 5: Right.
- 53:27Speaker 10: And I don't know why it didn't work there. I mean,
- 53:30Speaker 10: obviously we've got quarterback issues and then there's a change
- 53:33Speaker 10: in leadership. And obviously he didn't fit personally as much
- 53:37Speaker 10: as anything else didn't fit system wise, but I'll tell
- 53:39Speaker 10: you like, When we talk about Jeremiah Smith with Ohio
- 53:42Speaker 10: State right now and just how good he is, that's
- 53:45Speaker 10: how we talked about Marvin Harrison a couple of years ago. So, like,
- 53:48Speaker 10: I'm kind of holding my breath when Smith comes out
- 53:50Speaker 10: because I think he's just so unbelievable. You could not, like,
- 53:54Speaker 10: tell me anybody who thought that Marvin Harrison Jr. would
- 53:57Speaker 10: have busted. right? And now he's in that position now, right?
- 54:01Speaker 10: You're going to, you're going to get there. You're reunited
- 54:03Speaker 10: with your quarterback. He's had plenty of ups and downs, right? Like,
- 54:06Speaker 10: you know, you can look at some of the failings
- 54:08Speaker 10: there and you can pin them to CJ Stroud, like
- 54:09Speaker 10: it or not. Now you get a guy that can
- 54:11Speaker 10: go play across from Nico Collins. You've got even a
- 54:13Speaker 10: more dynamic receiving core. I think the possibilities are exciting,
- 54:16Speaker 10: but I think Stroud, and look, that defense has taken
- 54:19Speaker 10: a bit of a step back this year, but the
- 54:21Speaker 10: fact that they didn't advance last year in the playoffs is,
- 54:24Speaker 10: You can directly tie that to quarterback play. So they're
- 54:26Speaker 10: doing everything possible to prop up C.J.
- 54:29Speaker 9: Stratton.
- 54:29Speaker 10: Hopefully the chemistry the two of them had in college
- 54:31Speaker 10: and just the overall relationship they had can bring out
- 54:34Speaker 10: the best in Harrison because I can't believe he doesn't
- 54:36Speaker 10: have the physical tools to excel in the NFL.
- 54:40Speaker 6: Appreciate you, Farhan. I'm going to see you in a
- 54:42Speaker 6: couple hours there in Denver, and we'll talk to you
- 54:44Speaker 6: next Thursday as well. Thanks, man.
- 54:45Speaker 7: All right, buddy.
- 54:47Speaker 10: See you then.
- 54:49Speaker 6: Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada NFL reporter. National guy. He does
- 54:54Speaker 6: CFL play-by-play as well. I'll see him in the press
- 54:57Speaker 6: box tonight in Denver when the Seahawks and Broncos play
- 54:59Speaker 6: on Thursday night. Football 515 kickoff Seattle time. If you
- 55:04Speaker 6: missed that, you can go to the iHeartRadio app, download
- 55:06Speaker 6: it at 933KJR. Go to our website, 933KJR. com, the Greg
- 55:10Speaker 6: Bell Show podcast. You can catch all of what Farhan
- 55:12Speaker 6: just said about the NFC West. Up next, your chance
- 55:15Speaker 6: to be a part of the show. 49451 on the
- 55:18Speaker 6: Tacoma Dodge text line.
- 55:20Speaker 3: And.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Talkbacks. Jesslyn loves those.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Anything you want to say?
- 55:23Speaker 6: You know I do. 30 seconds or less.
- 55:25Speaker 5: Be thoughtful, be kind, and please don't make me edit.
- 55:29Speaker 6: Mike Benton's filling in will make you a part of
- 55:32Speaker 6: the show next. 1135 is Factor Fiction coming up on
- 55:35Speaker 6: 93.3 KJRFM.
- 55:42Speaker 11: We are so damn lucky in Seattle. They have the
- 55:44Speaker 11: same exact record as last year through five games. Three
- 55:46Speaker 11: and two. Lost to the Niners at home. Same turnover differentials,
- 55:50Speaker 11: same points per game, giving up the same amount of
- 55:53Speaker 11: points on defense. And I have supreme confidence they're going
- 55:57Speaker 11: to go minimum 13-4. This team is stacked.
- 56:00Speaker 3: They stay healthy.
- 56:02Speaker 11: They'll be just fine. Book Seattle tonight, 27, Broncos 10.
- 56:08Speaker 2: 49451 Tacoma Dodge text line. What you got for tonight,
- 56:13Speaker 2: Seahawks and Broncos tonight? Just get through these next three games, Jess.
- 56:18Speaker 2: That's all I'm asking.
- 56:19Speaker 3: Get through these next three.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Listen, I think going back like two months ago in August,
- 56:25Speaker 2: we're looking at this Broncos game a lot differently now
- 56:27Speaker 2: than versus here.
- 56:29Speaker 3: This is a winnable game.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Next week is what bothers me facing Kansas City.
- 56:34Speaker 4: Yeah, well, at least it's a home game.
- 56:36Speaker 2: And I think at this point, you're brushing aside trying
- 56:39Speaker 2: to catch the 49ers for the NFC West. Just get
- 56:43Speaker 2: your record into a solid spot after these next three games.
- 56:47Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think that's completely out of reach.
- 56:49Speaker 5: I mean, the Niners are going to regress to the
- 56:52Speaker 5: mean at some point. I think they're extremely good. And
- 56:54Speaker 5: Brock Purdy is performing way better than anyone thought he was.
- 56:58Speaker 3: He's not just a game manager. He is not.
- 57:00Speaker 7: He's legit.
- 57:01Speaker 4: He is legit.
- 57:01Speaker 3: It's what you have to deal with. You have to
- 57:04Speaker 3: deal with that right now down in Santa Clara.
- 57:06Speaker 4: Yes, you do. You absolutely do.
- 57:08Speaker 5: You have to deal with this in Denver today at
- 57:11Speaker 5: Mile High. But yeah, the Chiefs and the Bears, both
- 57:15Speaker 5: home games, both primetime games as well. Those are big ones.
- 57:21Speaker 5: I mean, we've got three under the lights games in
- 57:23Speaker 5: a row. Big national spotlight on you. I just don't
- 57:27Speaker 5: think that they care that much about that. These three games,
- 57:31Speaker 5: I think that, well, it's the middles, right? My friend
- 57:35Speaker 5: Alex Brink, who is a phenomenal football analyst, both on
- 57:40Speaker 5: the NFL and college football side. But he always says,
- 57:45Speaker 5: in a game situation, it's the middle eights. What do
- 57:48Speaker 5: you do with the last eight minutes? Of the first half.
- 57:53Speaker 5: And what do you do with the first eight minutes
- 57:54Speaker 5: of the second half? And that will determine a game. Well,
- 57:57Speaker 5: we're kind of in that territory of the season if
- 58:01Speaker 5: you want to go 30,000 feet on it. And I
- 58:03Speaker 5: do believe that these three next games, like you said...
- 58:07Speaker 5: are exactly what they need to take care of business doing.
- 58:11Speaker 2: 49451, what'd you think? Two losses along the way, that's
- 58:14Speaker 2: it for the rest of the entire season? It's a
- 58:16Speaker 2: bold prediction, but hey, we're all about bold predictions here.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Mike Benton in for Greg Bell with Jessamine. Back here
- 58:21Speaker 2: to the Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451. 253 says the
- 58:26Speaker 2: Seahawks running game through five games is like 30 yards
- 58:29Speaker 2: different than last year.
- 58:31Speaker 6: However.
- 58:32Speaker 2: I get that. It's not about the yards. It's about what?
- 58:38Speaker 2: The turnovers.
- 58:39Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 58:39Speaker 2: And even back then last year, K-9, over 1,000 yards
- 58:46Speaker 2: in 17 games, 5 TDs. Zach Charbonnet, 730 yards, 12 TDs.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Farhan Lajji brought up a great point in his conversation
- 58:56Speaker 2: with Greg a few minutes ago. It's going to take
- 58:59Speaker 2: a while for Charbonnet to ramp back up after basically
- 59:03Speaker 2: wrecking his knee and having to get this thing rebuilt.
- 59:07Speaker 3: An ACL thing is a very, very serious thing.
- 59:09Speaker 4: I've done it.
- 59:10Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:12Speaker 4: It takes a while.
- 59:13Speaker 3: And then Jadarian Price getting back in. He's a rookie.
- 59:16Speaker 2: These will take time. So, yeah, I get that they're
- 59:18Speaker 2: playing from behind right now, but let's put it this way.
- 59:21Speaker 2: It's about the turnovers. I don't think the score is
- 59:25Speaker 2: going to duplicate the same numbers that K-9 and Charbonnet
- 59:28Speaker 2: had last year. That's a concern for me.
- 59:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well, yes. I mean, without that production, for sure.
- 59:33Speaker 5: But the clean-up-able issues that they're facing. I mean, we
- 59:37Speaker 5: had Coach Mack on on Monday. And he said that
- 59:40Speaker 5: if you told me the stats, the turnover stats, I
- 59:43Speaker 5: thought in the first half alone, I thought this game
- 59:46Speaker 5: was over. And the fact that they were within reach
- 59:49Speaker 5: against the Niners tells me that this team is extremely talented.
- 59:52Speaker 5: They have the ability to be in these games. They
- 59:55Speaker 5: control their side.
- 59:56Speaker 6: Of the ball.
- 59:57Speaker 4: They're okay. They'll be just fine. They just have to
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: do it.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: As long as Sam Darnold doesn't play like the Bo
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Nicks is afraid of his own shadow type of.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: Game, they're going to be fine.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: I just don't think he will. It was a rough
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: start for him. People are going to have bad games.
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: But I look at Mike McDonald as a defensive player.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: coach he wants to control the game as a whole
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: and if they do that protecting the ball is number
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: one in all facets of controlling a.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Game 2-5-3 is saying the Seahawks tonight shock everyone. Henry Jr.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: over 100 yards. Sam Darnold, no turnovers.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Special teams get a TD 28-13 Seahawks. Very, very quick here.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Just one quick crack and reaction. Just saying Mackie Samaskevich
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: looking great.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Aggressive.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Fun player to watch. Can we capture lightning here in
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: a bottle of that from the 2-5-3? Big one tonight
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: for the Kraken and Tampa Bay. All right, time for now,
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Factor Fiction.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: grand prize.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: It's Factor Fiction.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: day feels lucky.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: Factor Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3, KJR FM. Because
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: it comes for 14 weeks.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Across every football season at 735, 1135, 235, 335. It
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: is your chance, your shot, to win $ 1, 000 each week.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: And the more you play each week, the more that
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: your odds increase of winning the weekly prize. And in
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: the contest, one person with the most correct guesses will
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: win not five, not six, not seven, but $ 10, 000. All courtesy,
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every day feels lucky
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: because they are the ones backing Factor Fiction presented by
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. It's very simple. All you
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: have to do is just listen. We have a pick
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: for a game right now. If you love it, text
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: FACT to 49451. If you hate it, text FICTION to 49451.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: The floor is yours, Jess McIntyre.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: What you got? Thank you.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Well, I will tell you the pick and then I'll
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: tell you why. So that people can get it in
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: in the window. I am picking the Bills minus five
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: and a half as they head to Vegas to face
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: the Raiders. I think that the Bills are going to
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: continue to be as dominant as we've seen them.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: I know they... Okay. They did not necessarily.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Dominate every game that they've won.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: They had a couple close calls, but the Raiders, I
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: do not believe in whatsoever. They're 3-2. That is fool's
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: gold to me to have a winning record right now.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: I think they're winning by a touchdown or more. So,
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: Bills minus 5.5 at Vegas Raiders. And the best part
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: is you can disagree with me because we had a
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: thousand dollar winner one week who.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: Won on a fiction pick against me.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: And so you can you can love it.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: You can hate it. But text fact, if you agree,
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: bills minus five and a half. If you disagree, that's just.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Text fiction, because if you have Josh Allen, you've got
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: a chance again, just as the bills minus five and
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: a half over the Raiders.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: Do you love it?
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Text FACT right now to 49451. If you hate the pick,
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: text FICTION to 49451. You have 12 minutes beginning right
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: now to do this.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: Text FACT.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: If you love the pick, Jess has got the Bills
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: minus 5.5 over the Raiders to 49451. If you love it,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: text FACT right now. If you hate the pick, text
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: FICTION to 49451. We have Ian coming in here in.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Just a bit.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: No, it's Dick Fane today because we have the early
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: cracking game.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: So Dick Fane will be on. from 12 to 3.30.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: It is a weird and wacky week going on.
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: It is, but, you know, when the Kraken travels to
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: the East Coast and we bring you them every single game,
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: regardless of where they are, sometimes we got to boot
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: someone off the air.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I got some chair time here later on today, so
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I'll keep this warm for 3.30. But Ian's got not
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: as extensive as, like, the John Forslund travel pack. But
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: he's got the whole planes, trains, autos thing going on
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: because he's got to be at an undisclosed location for
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: studio work. And that takes time to get them all
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: dressed up, makeup, everything. And he'll be on at 3.30.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: So Dick Fane's got the chair.
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: I think he does his own hair.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: So that's nice because I could always tell when he
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: was doing a TV hit because his hair would just
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: be on point.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: Usually he's like a hat and a sweatshirt guy, kind
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: of like me in this chair.
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: It's comfy.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: I mean, if you're on radio and you don't have
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: to worry about video, I'm just, I look like a
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: trash bag.
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: No, no.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: It's great.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: Stop, stop, stop.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: I've worked 15 years, by the way, coming up the
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: ranks before this job in minor league hockey and elsewhere.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: It was suit and tie every night, suit and tie
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: every night.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: And I got playfully lambasted when I began here, when
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: I was when I at one point wore like a
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: golf sweater and a polo shirt. Now, I was going
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: to have dinner after doing a show and filling in
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: for the old 10 to 12 show or 10 to
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: one show. But I got playfully lambasted.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Don't you come in and wear that ever again!
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: Well, that's because that show used to only wear sweats.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: I think they were exclusively sponsored by Champion or something.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: I don't think Fane's in jammies here. No.
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: He is always on point.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Dick Fane's up next.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: So, you know, we had the conversation earlier about how
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: you're not expecting your quarterback to be perfect.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: You're just asking your quarterback to be normal.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Kind of one of those days where it's like all
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: you can ask out of your host is not to
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: be perfect, but just to be normal.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: So my apologies, Fane's on from 2 to 3.30. Oh,
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: that's your producer as well.
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: I fumbled.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: No, we had our wires crossed. Ian didn't get the
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: day off.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: He's working somewhere hard from a remote location before it's
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: showtime for the Kraken at 3.30.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Speaking of, Mayor of Maple Valley, are you there?
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: Hello? I am here.
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: I am here.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: You get to work today, don't you?
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: Oh, well, yeah. It's Seahawk game day. It's Kraken game day.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: We're here.
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: I'm on the phone. My apologies on the phone right now.
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: We'll be ready to rock and roll here at the
- 1:06:35Speaker 7: top of the hour. But yeah, yeah, man.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: How are we? How's it going?
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: We are good.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: We are good.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Jam-packed day.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: We kind of made the joke earlier about, you know,
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: if you're in studio, do you wear PJs? I remember
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: back in the day when I first began interning in
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: at big Fox sports. Like I'm talking back when they
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: had like Fox sports news, you know, the, the Chris
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Rose show with John Kruk, Lisa Guerrero, they had that
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: going on as well. But the one thing is that like,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: this is back in the day when you had just
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: anchors wearing shirt, tie, blazer and then literally whatever you want,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: like underneath, because nobody could see. So I saw dudes
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: wearing shorts. I saw dudes wearing basketball pants. I mean,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: does it ever become tempting to you to, to try
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: to even do that?
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: Well, I'm wearing jeans today. Atta boy.
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: Atta boy.
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: I mean, I don't, I don't, when, when we're on
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: for a road game, when I got to walk, like, uh,
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: like it's a 15 minute walk from where we parked
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: to where our studios are. Yeah, man, I'm 100% in
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: tennis shoes and jeans. Up top, we're looking good. Got
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: a good suit on. Got our style of stars. You
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: got us dialed in.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: Desk up, man.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: But yeah, but I'm going, I'm going. Yeah, it's no
- 1:07:49Speaker 7: full frontal, baby. We're just standing there with, you know,
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: with the jeans on, but we'll look good up top today.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: Sweatpants, one of these days, man. An idea for you
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: is sweatpants.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: I'll go on a.
- 1:07:59Speaker 7: Lot of sweatpants. I'm not going to do that. I
- 1:08:01Speaker 7: got to have respect for the But, yeah, it's a hike.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: There's no reason to wear suit pants because, frankly, you
- 1:08:08Speaker 7: can't see them, so why bother? Now, home games were
- 1:08:12Speaker 7: decked out. Total suit. Here we go. That's how we
- 1:08:15Speaker 7: do it for home games. In fact, I hated it
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: when I was at Fox. We were on the anchor
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: desk always, and then all of a sudden they switched
- 1:08:23Speaker 7: to this goofy-ass Sumon thing they call that big video board.
- 1:08:26Speaker 7: And I was like, oh, man, now we've got to
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: go home. Now I've got to go full frontal, but
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: those are first-world problems. Bigger-world problems are, can the Seahawks
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: run the ball against the 29th-ranked Russians?
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to try this whole experiment with Robert
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Henry tonight.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: I mean, man, this is just patchwork.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: I just said, as far as the QB situation, you're
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: not asking Sam Darnold to be perfect. You're asking him
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: to be normal. It's one of those games where, Ian,
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: you just kind of begin with, Can you avoid throwing
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: a pick on.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: The very first play?
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: How about just the offense not giving short fields or
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: poor touchdowns to the other team? Because the two losses
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: they've had, 21 and 20 points off turnovers, right? So
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: if you don't do that, you're 5-0 right now. You're 5-0. Instead,
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: they have, and so... You know, it's a darn old problem.
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: It's a lot of problems when you can't run the football.
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: That's a problem. But just like I said, Denver can't
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: stop the run. So, I mean, if you can't run.
- 1:09:29Speaker 10: Against these guys, you're not going to run against anybody
- 1:09:31Speaker 10: this year.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: You think Henry's going over 100 then?
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: Is he in?
- 1:09:35Speaker 7: Do we know he's in?
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: Maybe. That's the indication that he could get some reps tonight.
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you've got to activate them first. I
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: haven't checked. I don't know. My apologies. The Thursday thing
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: is goofy with what they do. You don't have to
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: do it. The injury reports are different. It would be
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: odd to me. Let's see. Valus Jones. I'm just looking.
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: Valus Jones was signed to the 53-man. Earl Charles. Let's
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: see here. What are we doing? We're still a couple
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: hours away. They've got four running backs. Valus Jones Jr.,
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: Robert Henry, then they got, obviously, Helani and Wilson. So
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: do they activate all four running backs? I don't know.
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: I'm not sure.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: I mean, I think Patrick Henry's the next man.
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: Up, though. Well, but the fact that they– Bayless Jones
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: is a good special teams player for them, so I'm
- 1:10:30Speaker 7: guessing he's active. So my question is, are you going
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: to have all four of those guys active? And we
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: won't know that until later. So it makes no sense
- 1:10:36Speaker 7: for Henry not to play for two straight weeks– when
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: you signed him to your 53 man and he has
- 1:10:42Speaker 7: to stay there for three weeks to have them on
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: there for three weeks and not play in the first
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: two would make no sense. But I was surprised he
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: didn't play last week, to be honest with you, captain.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: You're surprised by the way that Bo Nix is playing
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: like he is right now, as scared as he can
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: look with not throwing the ball deep.
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: No, cause I watched him play at Oregon.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: Captain check down rain Supreme.
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: I mean, I watched him play there. I mean, I,
- 1:11:09Speaker 10: you know, I think that's like, which of these two quarterbacks.
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: That has not played well this year is better today.
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: That's the other question, right? Which one of those guys
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: steps up. So, um, you know, I think in the
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: case of Seattle, it's Darnold, just find the way to
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: spread the ball around a little bit more, but just
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: don't turn it over.
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: I just don't turn it.
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: Just don't do that. Like, just don't turn it over
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: anymore and, and you'll be just fine. But, um, yeah,
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: I don't know. I, I, uh, My whole thing with
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: these guys right now is they're better than 3-2. They're
- 1:11:39Speaker 7: probably not a 5-0 team, but it's a must-win. It's
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: just an absolute flat-out must-win.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because life is scary here to think if they
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: were to drop this game and then you got to
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: face the Kansas City Chiefs this next week.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: You're always ready here for game time. We got the
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: show going on for the Kraken. You got the TV
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: set after this, but you have a lot to get to, right?
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: Yeah, busy show. Cramming basically three hours of content into
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: two hours today. We'll have our weekly visit with Ross
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: Tucker coming up at 1220 from Westwood One and CBS Television.
- 1:12:15Speaker 7: I think he's got the Carolina game this week. So
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: we'll check in with Ross and get his thoughts on
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: tonight's matchup, obviously, with the Seahawks and the Broncos. I
- 1:12:21Speaker 7: always like talking to Ross. The 1 o'clock, Steve Palazzolo,
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: 33rd team. Check the Mike podcast. We'll go through this. Again,
- 1:12:28Speaker 7: Seahawks and Broncos, a lot of conversation with that. And 1.30,
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: we were going to just miss the week with Brandon Funston,
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: and we said we can't do that. We're not going
- 1:12:37Speaker 7: to take phone calls, but we'll check in with some
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: general topics. Jalen Hurts, what do you do with him
- 1:12:42Speaker 7: being out this week? And other things like that with
- 1:12:45Speaker 7: bye weeks. And take a few questions, 49451 on the
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: Tacoma Dodge text line, starting at noon, no earlier than noon.
- 1:12:50Speaker 7: So a short segment of Funston, and then we'll say
- 1:12:52Speaker 7: goodbye and hand it off to Dick Fane. And he'll
- 1:12:54Speaker 7: take it all the way up to your pregame show
- 1:12:57Speaker 7: at 3.30 today.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: There we go.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Just to quote Spaceballs, ludicrous speed.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: All right, Mayor, knock him dead.
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: Thanks, man.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: John Forslund, big thank you again. Farhan Lalji, big thank
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: you again. Folks, also for your texts, your talkbacks. Greg's
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: in Denver, back soon for Jessamine.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: I'm Mike. Ian's next.
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: See ya.
