987 THE SHOCK CIRCUIT REPLAY🔁 010626 · 987 The Shock Circuit

• 0:03
  Speaker 1: Wake
• 0:03
  Speaker 2: up.
• 0:05
  Speaker 2: Good next.
• 0:07
Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonnya
• 0:10
Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
• 0:12
Speaker 1: You know, it's a public holiday. It's the start of
• 0:15
Speaker 1: the school holidays. If for whatever reason you're awake on
• 0:18
Speaker 1: this Monday morning, not to worry, you're in good hands.
• 0:22
Speaker 1: You got me for company going solo one more day
• 0:25
Speaker 1: before Sonia's back with us tomorrow. Singapore's number one hit
• 0:28
  Speaker 1: music station.
• 0:32
Speaker 1: Keeping you company on this Vesak Day, Monday, a blessed
• 0:35
Speaker 1: one to you if you're celebrating. If not, I really
• 0:38
Speaker 1: hope you're enjoying your day or you have fantastic plans
• 0:40
Speaker 1: to just rest, recuperate before we tackle the month of
• 0:44
Speaker 1: June and prepare your bodies for all the odd timings
• 0:48
Speaker 1: when it comes to the football action for the World Cup.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: For yours truly though, here's what's gonna happen. Tomorrow morning,
• 0:55
Speaker 1: I'll do the show with Sonia. It's her first one
• 0:57
  Speaker 1: back after.
• 0:57
Speaker 1: After a long break and a honeymoon, I want to
• 1:00
Speaker 1: welcome her back, talk about the wedding, talk about her honeymoon.
• 1:03
  Speaker 1: I it's more or less like a catch-up session that
• 1:05
Speaker 1: we're doing, but live on air. And then once the
• 1:09
Speaker 1: show ends, I'm zooming down to Changi Airport to fly
• 1:13
Speaker 1: for my own holiday to Bhutan. So I'll be gone
• 1:15
Speaker 1: for two weeks. I'll be back with you June 15th
• 1:20
Speaker 1: on a Monday. Hopefully, I got my dates right, but
• 1:23
  Speaker 1: there you go.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: And we are counting down to NDP here in Singapore.
• 1:29
Speaker 1: National Day season is upon us. We're gonna be seeing
• 1:31
Speaker 1: loads of videos, loads of news about it, and I'm
• 1:35
Speaker 1: very happy to say that I'll be seeing you there
• 1:37
Speaker 1: if you are lucky enough to be at the National
• 1:39
Speaker 1: Stadium for the National Education shows, the previews are on
• 1:43
Speaker 1: the actual day itself. Now, today being June 1st, you
• 1:47
Speaker 1: have 5 more days to get
• 1:49
Speaker 1: Your names in to ballot for tickets and for each show,
• 1:54
Speaker 1: according to the rough estimate, we can house about 42,000
• 1:58
Speaker 1: people inside the national stadium itself. So I'm guessing for
• 2:02
Speaker 1: this year, you might have higher chances as compared to
• 2:05
Speaker 1: lower capacity venues like the Padang, for example, where we
• 2:09
Speaker 1: could only host about 20,000 or 25,000 at one show.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: So this 1 may be more chances for you to
• 2:15
  Speaker 1: get
• 2:16
Speaker 1: Those tickets so ballot for either preview one, preview two,
• 2:19
Speaker 1: or National Day itself. You can ballot for 24, or
• 2:22
Speaker 1: 6 tickets. If you're a Singapore citizens and PRs, just
• 2:26
Speaker 1: use your SingPass and log on to the official, I repeat,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: the official National Day website, that is NDP.gov.sg. Don't go
• 2:36
Speaker 1: to any other website. I repeat, it's NDP.gov.sg.
• 2:43
Speaker 1: You know, when I hear a song like this, I
• 2:45
Speaker 1: get reminded of Saint Jerome's Laneway Festival, the very same
• 2:48
Speaker 1: one that Billie Eilish came down to perform before she
• 2:51
Speaker 1: became the global sensation that she is today and maybe
• 2:55
Speaker 1: even the now defunct home Club when I used to
• 2:57
Speaker 1: go there to listen to indie music.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: But I'm very happy to say for people like Good
• 3:02
Speaker 1: Kid and Circada, I'm very sure if they were to
• 3:05
Speaker 1: come to Singapore to perform for this particular festival, we'll
• 3:09
Speaker 1: be more than happy to have them here. It is
• 3:11
Speaker 1: the Gastro Beats 2026 Music Festival, I dare say, because
• 3:16
Speaker 1: they got food, they got vendors, they got activities, and
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: not forgetting live.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: Music. So for Gastro Beats this year, over 40+ food vendors,
• 3:25
Speaker 1: and I can only hope the organizers have re-looked at
• 3:28
Speaker 1: the pricing charts and priced it in a more affordable
• 3:31
Speaker 1: manner so people from Singapore and not from Singapore can
• 3:34
Speaker 1: come on down, have a taste of our little country,
• 3:37
Speaker 1: enjoy themselves, soak up the Singapore sun and some good
• 3:40
Speaker 1: Singapore-made music as well.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: That said though, for us here in Singapore, if our
• 3:45
Speaker 1: voices don't get heard, we'll definitely go to social media.
• 3:48
Speaker 1: We are a vocal bunch, whether on the Facebook comments section, TikTok, Instagram.
• 3:53
Speaker 1: And LinkedIn. So, what happened was there was one day
• 3:57
Speaker 1: this man on LinkedIn left a comment about saying DBS
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Banks certain situation that involves the NRIC to register for something.
• 4:05
Speaker 1: It has not been working for so long. He's really angry,
• 4:08
Speaker 1: he sent multiple emails and phone calls. The customer service
• 4:11
Speaker 1: doesn't seem sincere in fixing the issue, and he texts
• 4:15
Speaker 1: the CEO of DBS herself, Ms. Tan Sushan.
• 4:19
Speaker 1: Little did he know, I wonder whether was he expecting
• 4:22
Speaker 1: a response from her, but Miss Tan Su Shan replies
• 4:26
Speaker 1: him while on a plane, and I'm just paraphrasing her reply.
• 4:29
Speaker 1: She said, my team is looking at it right now.
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: I'm replying from a plane.
• 4:33
Speaker 1: And then he replies saying, I'm so sorry for escalating
• 4:36
Speaker 1: it here, you know, I've been waiting for so long,
• 4:39
Speaker 1: just cutting a very frustrated figure. So, there you go.
• 4:42
Speaker 1: And I will not be surprised if the issue now
• 4:44
Speaker 1: gets solved in record time, given how the CEO of
• 4:47
Speaker 1: DBS Bank has been made aware of this particular situation.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: And I'm pretty sure for the customer service officers in
• 4:54
Speaker 1: DBS they are now on red alert. There might be a, oh, guys,
• 4:58
Speaker 1: what's happening here? Why are we on LinkedIn? So, Fortune,
• 5:01
Speaker 1: they have released the most powerful women in business list
• 5:05
Speaker 1: for the year 20.
• 5:07
Speaker 1: 26 and it's a very proud moment for us here
• 5:09
Speaker 1: in Singapore because we have two respectable women in that list,
• 5:13
Speaker 1: ranked at number 77 when it comes to the top 100.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: Congratulations to CEO of Temasek. We have Miss Peng Chin Yee.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: Go to clap for her.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: And by the way, the fields include finance, technology, healthcare, telecommunications, retail,
• 5:32
Speaker 1: and energy. And in 6th place, breaking into the top 10.
• 5:37
Speaker 1: What a week she's been having. The CEO of DBS herself, Ms.
• 5:41
Speaker 1: Tan Su Shan, congratulations.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if you're a business person, if Ms.
• 5:48
Speaker 1: Peng Shin Yi or maybe even Ms. Tan Su Shan
• 5:50
Speaker 1: or any of the powerful women in charge of a
• 5:53
Speaker 1: business here in Singapore, if they are on a panel,
• 5:55
Speaker 1: you definitely want to be there to listen to their insights,
• 5:58
Speaker 1: of course, if business is your interest. Again, congratulations to
• 6:02
Speaker 1: all who have made the top 100 fortune's most powerful
• 6:06
Speaker 1: women in business, especially to our very own Miss Peng
• 6:09
Speaker 1: Shin Yee and Miss Tan Su Shan.
• 6:12
Speaker 1: So, a bit of World Cup slash football related news
• 6:15
Speaker 1: coming your way, but this one, you don't need to
• 6:17
Speaker 1: understand the game to truly get what's going on. So
• 6:21
Speaker 1: there's an Argentine influencer. He does football content. His name
• 6:25
Speaker 1: is Valen Scarcini. So what he did before World Cup
• 6:29
Speaker 1: 2026 was to go on a research for every single team.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: And he wanted to find the least known World Cup
• 6:37
Speaker 1: player for this particular 2026 edition. He found him with
• 6:41
Speaker 1: only 4000 followers to his name. It's New Zealand defender
• 6:46
Speaker 1: Tim Payne. So, Scarceni actually shared this piece of news
• 6:49
Speaker 1: on social media, and given how he has a viral following,
• 6:53
Speaker 1: in just one night, Tim Payne of New Zealand went
• 6:58
Speaker 1: from 4000 to 1 million followers. Can you believe it?
• 7:04
Speaker 1: I'm guessing it's mostly filled with Argentinian fans, and they've
• 7:07
Speaker 1: now come up with a song for Tim Payne. So
• 7:10
Speaker 1: I did a search. Argentina are not in the same
• 7:13
Speaker 1: group stage as New Zealand. So New Zealand must qualify
• 7:17
Speaker 1: for the knockout round so that we can hear this
• 7:19
Speaker 1: song being sung to Tim Payne live for the World
• 7:23
Speaker 1: Cup 2026. But yes, this is amazing, heartwarming content coming
• 7:26
Speaker 1: your way, all proudly brought to you by football. If
• 7:30
  Speaker 1: you're a fan of BTS.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: Mark this date down, June 8th. And when I say Oreo, I,
• 7:37
Speaker 1: I don't mean someone's black and white dog because we
• 7:40
Speaker 1: got enough of black and white dogs called Oreo here
• 7:42
Speaker 1: in Singapore. It's actually Oreo cookies and BTS. They have
• 7:47
Speaker 1: a collaboration and it's known as the Hot Dog brown
• 7:52
Speaker 1: sugar pancake flavor cookies, and for the very first time,
• 7:55
Speaker 1: Oreo are releasing purple cookies. Well done.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: Now, Oreo and Blackpink had a collaboration a long time ago.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: The thing they did different was it's still the black cookies,
• 8:07
Speaker 1: but in the middle, it was the pink flavoring. For
• 8:10
Speaker 1: this one, it's really all purple. They got BTS logos,
• 8:14
Speaker 1: the BTS hearts, some BTS slogans as well. Pictures are
• 8:18
Speaker 1: available for you on CNA, but June 8th is the day.
• 8:23
Speaker 1: To Mark, I, I really wonder whether would someone frame
• 8:26
Speaker 1: all 13 designs. Just make sure you eat it, OK?
• 8:32
Speaker 1: Enjoy it. June 8th is BTS and Oreos Hot Dog
• 8:35
Speaker 1: brown sugar pancake flavor collaboration cookies. Let me very quickly
• 8:40
Speaker 1: give you what you can look forward to this entire
• 8:42
Speaker 1: week here on the shock circuit. Firstly, tomorrow, I'm very
• 8:46
Speaker 1: happy to share that Sonny Chow is back at work. Yes.
• 8:50
Speaker 1: After 17 days of being on my own, finally I
• 8:54
Speaker 1: have someone to add banter to the show, add color,
• 8:57
Speaker 1: and of course, everyone loves our darling Sonnetry here on 987.
• 9:00
Speaker 1: And tomorrow, I'll be doing the show with her to
• 9:04
Speaker 1: welcome back. I'll definitely grill her about her thoughts about
• 9:06
Speaker 1: the wedding and also her honeymoon.
• 9:09
Speaker 1: And then, at 10:00 a.m. I'm zooming down to Changi
• 9:14
Speaker 1: Airport for my holiday to Bhutan. I've never been. I'm excited.
• 9:18
Speaker 1: I think my itinerary has been planned out for me already.
• 9:21
Speaker 1: I'll be back on air Monday, June 15th, and from
• 9:25
Speaker 1: then on, it's gonna be a new and improved shock circuit,
• 9:28
Speaker 1: new segment, amazing prizes, and
• 9:32
Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you in a small secret, OK? Next year,
• 9:36
Speaker 1: it will be our 10th year as the shock circuit
• 9:39
  Speaker 1: on 987.
• 9:41
Speaker 1: Sonia and I, we are already planning an amazing 10
• 9:45
Speaker 1: year old bash for the shock circuit. I can't reveal
• 9:49
Speaker 1: too much as of yet, but trust me, once we
• 9:51
Speaker 1: have the details firmed up, we definitely wanna get as
• 9:54
Speaker 1: many of you into that venue and celebrate with us
• 9:58
Speaker 1: 10 very good years of the shock circuit. But for
• 10:01
Speaker 1: the past 2 to 3 weeks,
• 10:03
Speaker 1: Here on the shock circuit going solo. Sonia Chi back
• 10:05
Speaker 1: from honeymoon tomorrow. I cannot wait to grill her, but
• 10:08
Speaker 1: that's it, have a great Vesak Day public holiday. Back
• 10:11
Speaker 1: to work tomorrow. And of course, if you're in school,
• 10:16
Speaker 1: enjoy the June holidays, and very soon we are counting
• 10:19
Speaker 1: down to the World Cup starting in USA, Mexico, and Canada.
