- 2:22Speaker 6: I like to call him. He's gonna be joining us
- 2:25Speaker 6: on the Sports Dummer Podcast tonight, a really really fun
- 2:29Speaker 6: interview with Doogie, and it is an hour long, so

- 2:56Speaker 6: relief with the CBD, I'm telling you cultivated CBD. Put

- 3:02Speaker 6: of money, and they're simply the best. I mean, honestly,
- 3:08Speaker 6: they are simply the best products. I went to them
- 3:13Speaker 6: to seek a sponsorship because I was that impressed with
- 3:16Speaker 6: their products. So people are like, oh, well, you know
- 3:19Speaker 6: they sought you out and you're just pimping form.
- 3:20Speaker 3: No.
- 3:22Speaker 6: I used the products. I was very impressed. And beyond that,
- 3:27Speaker 6: my friend's over at Seventh Avenue Pizza.
- 3:30Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Hey, if you do use that THHC option over a
- 3:33Speaker 6: cultivated and you get a little those munchi's setting in,
- 3:37Speaker 6: get yourself the best frozen pizza in the state of Minnesota.
- 3:40Speaker 6: It's all about the ingredients, man, And that's where I just, honestly,
- 3:44Speaker 6: Seventh Avenue Pizza just edges out a lot of their competitors,
- 3:48Speaker 6: a lot of good frozen pizza out there. I've had
- 3:51Speaker 6: them all, a lot of good stuff, But Seventh Avenue
- 3:53Speaker 6: Pizza the ingredients, I think that just a little bit better.
- 3:57Speaker 6: And you know, local company doing bit things. So shout
- 4:01Speaker 6: out to the Nelson families. So Seventh Avenue Pizza for
- 4:05Speaker 6: your frozen pizza cultivated CBD and let's just get right
- 4:10Speaker 6: to it. Man, because I'm just gonna turn it over
- 4:13Speaker 6: to Doogie. That's all I got. So a couple quick

- 5:45Speaker 6: the one and only.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, always you follow the script, brilliant Lanes. So
- 5:51Speaker 3: thank you.
- 5:52Speaker 6: I tried the hardest work in sports reporter in town.
- 5:55Speaker 6: As I like to say, Darren, thank you so much
- 5:59Speaker 6: for joining us, my man. And you know, let's just
- 6:03Speaker 6: get into it. How did you get into sports reporting?
- 6:06Speaker 6: That's one thing I was always kind of curious. You know,
- 6:08Speaker 6: what's your story?
- 6:11Speaker 3: The short version, Vince is I failed miserably attempting to
- 6:15Speaker 3: be an athlete, played through eighth grade, grew up in
- 6:18Speaker 3: West Saint Paul, went to what is now Two Rivers
- 6:22Speaker 3: High School from w A. Henry Sibley High School. Senior year,
- 6:26Speaker 3: was trying to figure out what the heck I wanted
- 6:28Speaker 3: to do, and I landed in internship slash mentorship both
- 6:33Speaker 3: at KFAN Radio and here at Channel five with Joe Schmidt.
- 6:38Speaker 3: You think about Joe all these years in his late sixties,
- 6:42Speaker 3: still doing this. Joe and I go back to the
- 6:44Speaker 3: fall of nineteen ninety six, my senior year in high school.
- 6:49Speaker 3: So I got a lay of the land, learned the
- 6:52Speaker 3: business both at KFAN and at Channel five while still
- 6:56Speaker 3: in high school. That made my college choice pretty easy.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Like I was contemplating going to Illinois, Champagne, Illinois, you know,
- 7:03Speaker 3: leaving the metro going six seven, eight hours away. But
- 7:06Speaker 3: I figured, with all my contacts in town, the University
- 7:09Speaker 3: of Minnesota made all sorts of sense. So went to
- 7:13Speaker 3: the u of M. Earned a degree in journalism, more
- 7:16Speaker 3: so with an emphasis on print journalism because I was
- 7:18Speaker 3: learning about the electronic side of things channel five KFAN,
- 7:21Speaker 3: so dovetailed both of those internships into part time jobs,
- 7:27Speaker 3: and so I was working at KFN. That turned into
- 7:30Speaker 3: some on air stuff. You know, one opportunity led to
- 7:33Speaker 3: another led to another. So short version ended up being
- 7:36Speaker 3: attached to Dan Burrero and Chad Hartman. They split, ended
- 7:40Speaker 3: up working with Chad Hartman on the radio side. Was
- 7:43Speaker 3: also trying to balance the personal life stuff fence Like
- 7:48Speaker 3: you're twenty twenty one, right, you want to have a
- 7:51Speaker 3: good time I'm trying to earn my degree right dot
- 7:54Speaker 3: some school work. I'm trying to have a social life.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I'm working at KFAN, I'm working at Channel five, and
- 8:01Speaker 3: so I made the determination it would have been like
- 8:05Speaker 3: summer of one, fall of one to focus more on radio.
- 8:09Speaker 3: So I told Channel five, thank you for everything. We
- 8:12Speaker 3: left on great terms. And so I left Channel five
- 8:15Speaker 3: focused on the radio side of things. Got hired at
- 8:18Speaker 3: KFE in full time after graduating from the University of Minnesota.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Worked with Chedd Hartman on the air until January of
- 8:24Speaker 3: oh nine. Then Clear Channel, which is now iHeartMedia laid
- 8:28Speaker 3: off two thousand employees nationwide. Ched and I got caught
- 8:32Speaker 3: up in that, so we got laid off. So I
- 8:34Speaker 3: was out of a job January of oh nine. Ended
- 8:38Speaker 3: up for a year freelancing. So I covered the vikings
- 8:40Speaker 3: on a daily basis for cbsports dot Com. Back in
- 8:43Speaker 3: twenty ten, they had or I guess the twenty nine season,
- 8:47Speaker 3: twenty oh nine seasons that ended, you know, February early
- 8:50Speaker 3: February of twenty ten, they hired a beat reporter for
- 8:54Speaker 3: every NFL team, and so I landed the beat job
- 8:58Speaker 3: for CBS Sports dot Com. They traveled me to the
- 9:00Speaker 3: NFC Championship game in New Orleans. So that was a
- 9:03Speaker 3: really good time. Ended up, you know, through networking, had
- 9:06Speaker 3: some connections at MLB Network. They were just getting off
- 9:09Speaker 3: the ground at the time. They did thirty clubs and
- 9:12Speaker 3: thirty days. They now do I think thirty clubs in
- 9:14Speaker 3: fifteen days, but they did an hour show on every
- 9:18Speaker 3: team from that team's spring training location. So I spent
- 9:21Speaker 3: three weeks in Florida, spending a bunch of time around
- 9:24Speaker 3: the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Philadelphia Phillies,
- 9:28Speaker 3: the Atlanta Braves, and a good buddy of mine to
- 9:31Speaker 3: this stay still works for the Boston Red Sox, so
- 9:32Speaker 3: I spent some time in Fort Myers with him. So,
- 9:35Speaker 3: you know, I was loving life. But I was also
- 9:37Speaker 3: getting married October of nine, so I'm thinking, Okay, the
- 9:40Speaker 3: freelance thing can only go so far. I find a
- 9:45Speaker 3: full time job again. So Joe Schmid had left Channel
- 9:48Speaker 3: five went to go work for Tom Petters. You can
- 9:51Speaker 3: google Tom Petter's name if you don't remember who Tom is.
- 9:54Speaker 3: The scheme everything with Tom blew up. So Joe was
- 9:57Speaker 3: out of a job. He decided to come back Channel five.
- 10:00Speaker 3: They have never really could adequately replace him. He just
- 10:04Speaker 3: up with the right person, you know, Rest in peace.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Rod Simon's a plus individual. He was given an opportunity
- 10:11Speaker 3: guy by the name of Phil Aldridge, but Channel five
- 10:13Speaker 3: just never felt like they had found the right replacement
- 10:16Speaker 3: for Joe. So it was this marriage that was almost inevitable.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Joe looking for a job, Channel five trying to solve
- 10:23Speaker 3: the sports conundrum. And so Joe came back to Channel
- 10:26Speaker 3: five and they handed him the keys, and the first
- 10:28Speaker 3: home call he made was to me. He said, hey, dudes, like,
- 10:31Speaker 3: let's reunite, Let's do this. And I had already done
- 10:35Speaker 3: some on air stuff Fox nine when I was on
- 10:38Speaker 3: the air vincit A Kfvan brought me in for an
- 10:41Speaker 3: on air tryout. They had me read the telepropter. They said, hey,
- 10:45Speaker 3: we could use you to fill in. So I did,
- 10:47Speaker 3: like I don't know, upwards of thirty or forty anchoring
- 10:50Speaker 3: shifts at Channel nine over the course of a few years. Yeah,
- 10:55Speaker 3: four oh, five, six, seven, eight, may have even been
- 11:00Speaker 3: more than that, Like when Don Mitchell was on vacation
- 11:02Speaker 3: or Jim Rich was on vacation, I was the filling
- 11:05Speaker 3: guy and so I had on air TV experience, I
- 11:08Speaker 3: had all sorts of behind the scenes TV experience. So
- 11:10Speaker 3: Joe said, hey, like, let's do this. You can do
- 11:13Speaker 3: stuff on air, you can do stuff behind the scenes.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I want you. And so I've been back here at
- 11:17Speaker 3: Channel five since January, late January, right when the Vikings
- 11:21Speaker 3: lost to New Orleans. That next Monday, I started back
- 11:24Speaker 3: here Channel five. So I've been back here Channel five
- 11:26Speaker 3: since January, late January of twenty ten. And the next
- 11:31Speaker 3: thing you know, you know, Channel five is owned by
- 11:33Speaker 3: the Hubbard family. They also owned the frequency fifteen hundred AM.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Fifteen hundred am turned into ESPN Radio. They had the
- 11:41Speaker 3: Twins rights for a while. So I'm already in the
- 11:44Speaker 3: building in the whole world. The boss of Hubbard Radio
- 11:49Speaker 3: used to be one of my bosses at Clear Channel.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Wow.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Right, that's just the way this thing works oftentimes. And
- 11:55Speaker 3: so always maintained a really healthy relationship with a guy
- 11:59Speaker 3: by the name of Dan Seaman. And so it was
- 12:02Speaker 3: seamless like what I was doing a KFE and I
- 12:04Speaker 3: had a chance to do here, and so I was
- 12:06Speaker 3: able to still do radio and doing TV. And now
- 12:10Speaker 3: you know that radio has turned into more of a
- 12:12Speaker 3: digital platform, YouTube and podcasting and all that. So still
- 12:16Speaker 3: do that to this day for what is now Score North,
- 12:19Speaker 3: and still do the TV stuff on the Channel five side.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Very very well said man, that's a very interesting story, dude.
- 12:25Speaker 3: So and that was probably long wind Advance.
- 12:27Speaker 6: I told you it's very cool, Old.
- 12:31Speaker 3: That's the problem. I'm easy, easy, dudes. I just hit.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Ladies and gentlemen. This is why the Twin Cities loves
- 12:42Speaker 6: this guy, Doogie Wilson joining us on sports Stone.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I don't know about that, Vance. If you look at
- 12:46Speaker 3: my Twitter notifications, I don't know. Well.
- 12:50Speaker 6: I I know from people who were that truly matter
- 12:53Speaker 6: and they do love you dudes, and we both know
- 12:56Speaker 6: what thank you and Twitter can just go down a
- 12:59Speaker 6: rabbit hole and into a cess pool. But you gotta
- 13:03Speaker 6: do it.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Man.
- 13:03Speaker 6: We're just in the world now where if you're gonna
- 13:05Speaker 6: be in sports media, you gotta have a handle. So
- 13:08Speaker 6: all right, man, let me ask you this. Let's talk
- 13:11Speaker 6: go for basketball here and folks, we're gonna kind of
- 13:13Speaker 6: do a lot of different questions real quick because I
- 13:18Speaker 6: don't want to keep I could keep Doogie here all night,
- 13:20Speaker 6: but the man is busy.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I mean, we can go for a little bit. I
- 13:24Speaker 3: just need to be you know, inner media talk. Go
- 13:28Speaker 3: for women's basketball tonight is on BTM plus, so that
- 13:32Speaker 3: is a web stream, not a cable linear TV type setup.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So I need to configure some things so we can
- 13:40Speaker 3: roll on that game, so we can have highlights for
- 13:42Speaker 3: our nine o'clock Sports five. We our ten o'clock Sports
- 13:46Speaker 3: on channel five. So I just need to be back
- 13:48Speaker 3: upstairs in the TV newsroom close to tip off. Otherwise
- 13:53Speaker 3: I'm good. I'm free, all right, So.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Go for go for men's hoops. Let's talk about coach
- 13:59Speaker 6: Ben Johnson, and then I want to talk to you
- 14:00Speaker 6: about the arenas. There's kind of been some talk percolating
- 14:03Speaker 6: there in the new Arena and whatnot. But Ben Johnson,
- 14:06Speaker 6: this Gopher team, and you know, honestly, man, I kind
- 14:09Speaker 6: of feel bad for coach Johnson because, you know, the
- 14:12Speaker 6: past couple of years, he has what kind of looks
- 14:15Speaker 6: like the beginnings of a team that could be very interesting.
- 14:18Speaker 6: But due to the way that Nil and his portal
- 14:21Speaker 6: and everything is going nowadays, every year, especially with a
- 14:25Speaker 6: program like Minnesota is it's just very very tough. So
- 14:30Speaker 6: you know, on one side of this, it's hard because
- 14:32Speaker 6: the guy doesn't get a team. Really, I mean, he
- 14:35Speaker 6: doesn't get something that he can build and kind of
- 14:37Speaker 6: stick with and the old model over the next two
- 14:40Speaker 6: to three years. But that can that sentiment only takes
- 14:44Speaker 6: you so far as well. So Gophers had a couple
- 14:48Speaker 6: of nice wins in LA, they come back, got some
- 14:51Speaker 6: losses back on the record here doogie two questions? How
- 14:56Speaker 6: did what do you think this team does? Do they
- 14:58Speaker 6: make the Big Ten Tournament? And and if they do not,
- 15:02Speaker 6: then what has been Ben Johnson's future?
- 15:05Speaker 3: Well, even if they make, Evince, how far do they go?
- 15:10Speaker 3: So I think we can still have the conversation even
- 15:12Speaker 3: if they make it, does Ben Johnson get a fifth year?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Or is this it in terms of them making it?
- 15:18Speaker 3: I don't have the standing specifically in front of me.
- 15:20Speaker 3: But when thinking about at Nebraska, think about Nebraska Freddie
- 15:24Speaker 3: Hoiberg one of my guys, like they're right on the
- 15:26Speaker 3: NCAA bubble, Like they have a pretty darn good resume.
- 15:30Speaker 3: They still need a couple wins though, to really build
- 15:33Speaker 3: up that resume. So think about how big Saturday is
- 15:37Speaker 3: for Nebraska. Yes, big for the Gophers, but it's huge
- 15:40Speaker 3: for the corn Huskers. Then Senior Night. What next Wednesday?
- 15:45Speaker 3: You play the top fifteen Wisconsin Badgers. Hard to really
- 15:49Speaker 3: like your chances, although, did you like their chances heading
- 15:51Speaker 3: into the Michigan game at the Barn or the Oregon
- 15:54Speaker 3: game at the Barn or the game at UCLA? So
- 15:57Speaker 3: you'd like to think at home Senior Night, you'd like
- 16:02Speaker 3: to think a little bit later six o'clock start, so
- 16:04Speaker 3: there won't be just two thousand people in the building.
- 16:07Speaker 3: It's a seven thirty tip off. You'd like to think
- 16:10Speaker 3: there will be all sorts of juice at Williams Arena
- 16:14Speaker 3: next Wednesday. I don't know the events. Can they win
- 16:17Speaker 3: that game? And then you finish up at Rutgers? So
- 16:19Speaker 3: we're talking three games. Yeah, where do they need to go?
- 16:23Speaker 3: Do they need to go too? And one to feel
- 16:25Speaker 3: really secure about being in the top fifteen? Does one
- 16:28Speaker 3: win secure us in the top fifty?
- 16:31Speaker 6: Yeah? They may have to win out at this point too, dudes,
- 16:34Speaker 6: because I mean, I don't know, man, it's just they
- 16:38Speaker 6: they a little bit and then they go on these
- 16:41Speaker 6: losing streaks and and I don't know how.
- 16:44Speaker 3: But Okay, so Northwestern is right there, Penn State is
- 16:49Speaker 3: right there, Washington, Iowa's faltered a bit, right, So I
- 16:53Speaker 3: think those are the teams maybe Rutgers we're talking about.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you think about the importance of
- 16:58Speaker 3: the Rutgers game that can be winner in, loser out potentially.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I mean Ben Johnson told me this couple weeks ago.
- 17:05Speaker 3: He's like, hey, like, yeah, maybe we feel okay right now,
- 17:08Speaker 3: but it always comes down to the final two weeks,
- 17:11Speaker 3: and in this case, it could come down to that
- 17:14Speaker 3: final regular season game at Rutgers. But either way, I
- 17:18Speaker 3: understand the full body of work over the four years.
- 17:21Speaker 3: When you look at his Big Ten record, it is many, many,
- 17:25Speaker 3: many games below five hundred. I will fully admit my bias.
- 17:29Speaker 3: He is as nice a human being as there is.
- 17:33Speaker 3: He went out of his way, did not have to.
- 17:35Speaker 3: He got wind of my older son celebrating his golden
- 17:38Speaker 3: birthday back in twenty twenty two. On March eleventh, twenty
- 17:43Speaker 3: twenty two, my drugie, my older son turned eleven. We
- 17:48Speaker 3: happened to hold his birthday party at Williams Arena. So
- 17:51Speaker 3: a bunch of his friends got to play basketball. Oh,
- 17:54Speaker 3: very cool at Williams Arena. Actually not as tricky or
- 17:57Speaker 3: as complicated as many people think. So if you need
- 17:59Speaker 3: a birthday party idea, people looked into it. It was
- 18:03Speaker 3: a really fun time outside of one of his friends
- 18:06Speaker 3: falling off the court getting all bloodied, but wonderful birthday party.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Then showed up. So they had lost the night before
- 18:16Speaker 3: weekling Wednesday in the Big Ten tournament. He decides the
- 18:21Speaker 3: next morning, late morning, Yes, I'm going to show up.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Talk to Drugie, talked to his friends, pump them up
- 18:29Speaker 3: like that's just somebody who has a heart of gold.
- 18:31Speaker 3: To me, of course, he is such a good dude.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I actually think two events, the man can coach a
- 18:37Speaker 3: little bit. Now. Caden Bett's being in there at the end,
- 18:42Speaker 3: trust me, that was coaching malpractice. But overall, I really
- 18:47Speaker 3: truly believe the man knows what he's doing. I do.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I was at the Purdue game. Yeah they lost by
- 18:55Speaker 3: eleven or twelve, but it was a one point game
- 18:56Speaker 3: at the half. Some of the actions they ran in
- 18:58Speaker 3: the first half it was really good. Like just go
- 19:01Speaker 3: back and watch the first step with Purdue game and
- 19:03Speaker 3: try to convince me that it was not a well
- 19:05Speaker 3: coached team that night. But the Northwestern game, they looked
- 19:09Speaker 3: ill prepared. They did not look ready for that game
- 19:13Speaker 3: the other night at Williams Arena. The buyout is two
- 19:17Speaker 3: point two two point nine to two million dollars nearly
- 19:21Speaker 3: three million dollars. Great job by his agent. So what
- 19:24Speaker 3: his agent did when Ben signed the contract extension summer
- 19:28Speaker 3: of twenty twenty twenty two. Ben didn't get a raise,
- 19:31Speaker 3: but his agent was able to change the language and
- 19:34Speaker 3: the contract. Essentially he gets seventy five percent versus fifty
- 19:39Speaker 3: percent remaining collar all that, the number is two point
- 19:42Speaker 3: nine two million dollars two point nine two million dollars
- 19:47Speaker 3: nearly three million dollars to buy him out. But I'll
- 19:50Speaker 3: tell you what now, it was an emotional time last night.
- 19:52Speaker 3: But from a couple friends of his like and who
- 19:56Speaker 3: want him to succeed in the worst way, right or
- 19:59Speaker 3: in the best way, every one of view that they're
- 20:01Speaker 3: convinced it's going to be hard for Mark Coyle to
- 20:05Speaker 3: retain him. Yeah. Just keep in mind though revenue sharing
- 20:09Speaker 3: is coming to the tune of nearly twenty one million dollars.
- 20:12Speaker 3: A lot of that will go to the football team,
- 20:14Speaker 3: but certainly men's basketball, women's basketball, men's hockey, volleyball cut
- 20:19Speaker 3: up the pie. But the Gophers need to come up
- 20:21Speaker 3: with that money. Now, I get it, like they have
- 20:24Speaker 3: a lot of money. Football generates a lot of revenue,
- 20:26Speaker 3: right right, just TV money, all that Big ten network everything.
- 20:31Speaker 3: But still, that's a good chunk of change that normally
- 20:35Speaker 3: isn't on the books for the Gophers, nearly twenty one million.
- 20:38Speaker 3: So now, if you're paying Ben nearly three million to
- 20:40Speaker 3: go away, or are you bringing in to replace him,
- 20:44Speaker 3: Let's just say the popular name that everybody likes to volunteer,
- 20:48Speaker 3: Nico medved an obvious candidate, Nico having success at Colorado State. Well,
- 20:55Speaker 3: you need to buy him out of his contract exactly.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I don't have the exact figure in front of me,
- 21:00Speaker 3: but we're not talking some change, right, I mean, it's
- 21:03Speaker 3: a good number. And then we say him, you have
- 21:07Speaker 3: to give him a contract exactly that bests what you
- 21:11Speaker 3: were paying Ben. So I'm just saying, do you have
- 21:13Speaker 3: all that money? Now? Mark Coyle may look at it
- 21:16Speaker 3: and say, whoever I hire, I feel like we'll sell
- 21:20Speaker 3: that many more tickets, that many more ice cream sandwiches,
- 21:24Speaker 3: hot dogs on game night, many more people in the
- 21:28Speaker 3: stands that we have to do something that Gopher basketball
- 21:33Speaker 3: is very much dead in many ways, we have to
- 21:35Speaker 3: revitalize it, and so the easiest way to do that
- 21:39Speaker 3: is to replace the head coach. So I will not
- 21:42Speaker 3: be surprised if a change comes. In fact, trust me,
- 21:45Speaker 3: I've been doing a lot of research behind the scenes
- 21:48Speaker 3: on stuff, and so I'm fully prepared to cover a
- 21:52Speaker 3: coaching search. I'm just saying, if you're bringing in Nico Vince,
- 21:56Speaker 3: or you're bringing in you name the popular mid A
- 22:00Speaker 3: coach and that coaching Drake or you name the coach,
- 22:05Speaker 3: if that coach doesn't have a direct line to money
- 22:08Speaker 3: to nil funding, it's going to be largely the same. Now,
- 22:13Speaker 3: could Nico elevate a roster a few more wins, maybe
- 22:17Speaker 3: instead of finishing fifteenth, you finished tenth or ninth. Sure,
- 22:23Speaker 3: But if you're talking about finishing top five in the
- 22:26Speaker 3: conference and every other year NCAA tournament appearance, I'm sorry,
- 22:31Speaker 3: I don't see it happening. There's a reason why this
- 22:34Speaker 3: program in so many ways, Vince has been rock bottom
- 22:38Speaker 3: since nineteen ninety eight, So we can go back nearly
- 22:42Speaker 3: three decades. It hasn't been good. Look at Richard Patino, right,
- 22:48Speaker 3: and I'm a Latino guy. Although I fully understood its
- 22:51Speaker 3: time for change. In that moment, you can see that
- 22:55Speaker 3: man can coach. Look what he's doing at New Mexico.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Watch his name come up for for one of these
- 23:00Speaker 3: jobs that's about to open it or is already like Virginia,
- 23:04Speaker 3: Like I would be shocked at Virginia as all sorts
- 23:06Speaker 3: of interest.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you know, like when who was at
- 23:09Speaker 6: Monson when he left them went out to Long Beach
- 23:11Speaker 6: State and all of a sudden getting Long Beach State,
- 23:13Speaker 6: you know, tournament appearances.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Yeah, although I'm thinking high major like in the Mountain West,
- 23:19Speaker 3: like Richard's having success in the Mountain West and that's
- 23:21Speaker 3: a really competitive coun Richard is going to be in
- 23:25Speaker 3: the mix. Whether it's Virginia. I don't think Indiana, but
- 23:28Speaker 3: Virginia or if some of these other high major power
- 23:32Speaker 3: for in basketball type jobs open up, You're going to
- 23:37Speaker 3: hear Patino's name for a reason. The man knows what
- 23:41Speaker 3: he's doing. It's larger than the coach here. But hey,
- 23:46Speaker 3: if you can hire a guy like Tom Crean, you
- 23:48Speaker 3: don't need to buy him out of his contract, right
- 23:50Speaker 3: he's doing great. More in ESPN, if you know somebody
- 23:54Speaker 3: that's got a direct line to nil funding that he's
- 23:58Speaker 3: got some big money friends that are willing to help
- 24:01Speaker 3: him out. Okay, I get it, go buy roster. It's
- 24:06Speaker 3: like European basketball now events. I'm not the first person
- 24:08Speaker 3: to volunteer that information, but rosters are turning over so
- 24:11Speaker 3: much on a year to year basis, recruiting doesn't really
- 24:15Speaker 3: matter anymore. Oh ye, to be able to buy players,
- 24:19Speaker 3: also identifying the portal who can play, who can't play,
- 24:23Speaker 3: But then you need to have the funding right. And hey,
- 24:27Speaker 3: Ben knows how to identify town. He identified Danny Wolf
- 24:30Speaker 3: coming out of high school. Danny ends up at Yale,
- 24:33Speaker 3: then he is now at Michigan. He's gonna be a
- 24:35Speaker 3: first round NBA pick. Ben identified Elijah Hawkins Elijah on
- 24:43Speaker 3: April twelfth of last year, Events, declared publicly Instagram, Twitter.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I am back two weeks later. He's at Texas Tech.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I don't follow Elijah one bit. But it was a broker,
- 24:55Speaker 3: not even an agent. When I say agent, I think
- 24:57Speaker 3: about being certified by the NBA. This guy that came
- 25:01Speaker 3: in Christian who broker the deal to get Elijah to Lubbock, Texas,
- 25:07Speaker 3: is not a certified NBA agent. Broker jeez, how is
- 25:12Speaker 3: that Ben's fault? But to me, that's independent of the
- 25:14Speaker 3: conversation of Ben's roster. Right now, should be good enough
- 25:18Speaker 3: to beat Northwestern, should be good enough to beat Penn State,
- 25:21Speaker 3: should be good enough to beat Washington even minus Mike Mitchell,
- 25:24Speaker 3: North Texas Wichita. Now, I still think they've beat North
- 25:28Speaker 3: Texas and Wichita if Mike Mitchell wasn't hurt. But that's
- 25:31Speaker 3: a separate conversation. But like in the moment of right now,
- 25:34Speaker 3: these two most recent losses, Penn State and Northwestern, like
- 25:40Speaker 3: Ben should have enough, right and I get the overall
- 25:43Speaker 3: body of work, But I'm just saying, unless you're hiring
- 25:46Speaker 3: a coach, and that person may be out there, trust me,
- 25:48Speaker 3: you know, I don't randomly just say Tom. I mean
- 25:51Speaker 3: Tom may have a ligne on somebody. I'm just saying,
- 25:55Speaker 3: if you're making a change, whoever you're bringing in better
- 25:58Speaker 3: be able to generate some ani now funding. I was
- 26:03Speaker 3: with somebody who's got a lot of money. He's got
- 26:05Speaker 3: really nice season tickets, has a ton of money, he
- 26:09Speaker 3: has Vince. This is just one person, but he has
- 26:12Speaker 3: zero interest in paying to help bring in a player.
- 26:16Speaker 3: And I get where he's coming from. You can pay
- 26:18Speaker 3: a player one million dollars he comes in for one year,
- 26:21Speaker 3: what exactly is guaranteed in that one year? Then the
- 26:24Speaker 3: player could leave right after that. Absolutely, And so he
- 26:29Speaker 3: donates money. Don't get me wrong, but he's not interested
- 26:33Speaker 3: in donating money to bring in players, whether it's the
- 26:37Speaker 3: practice facility or athletes village or some other stuff. Sure,
- 26:43Speaker 3: but in terms of buying players, just telling you this
- 26:47Speaker 3: is just one person. But he told me he's not
- 26:49Speaker 3: interested in contributing money for something like that. So I'm
- 26:53Speaker 3: just saying there's a lot of issues in place. They
- 26:57Speaker 3: couldn't even come close to outbidding Iowa eight for Nate Heisee. Yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 3: Taylor Heise's brother, Fox's future brother in law. Right, Taylor
- 27:09Speaker 3: Maron item they're close. We know Parker and Nate have
- 27:12Speaker 3: a relationship. Right, Parker is here. They lost Nate to
- 27:17Speaker 3: Iowa State Andrew Morgan, who we will see on Saturday,
- 27:21Speaker 3: North Dakota State. Yeah, he got more money at Nebraska
- 27:26Speaker 3: than he could have received here. Now, Dawston Garcia is
- 27:28Speaker 3: making good money north of five hundred thousand dollars, so
- 27:30Speaker 3: it's not like they don't have anything. But for everybody else. Yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 3: it's close to nothing like when you're when you're losing
- 27:40Speaker 3: a bidding war on Nate Heisey and Andrew Morgan. I'm
- 27:44Speaker 3: just saying this is my own opinion, Vince. There are
- 27:46Speaker 3: a lot of issues in play.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Okay, well, Doogie, let me do this. I'm gonna throw
- 27:50Speaker 6: a couple of wild cards and then we'll move on
- 27:53Speaker 6: to the Timberwolves and new owners and things there. But
- 27:56Speaker 6: as long as we're talking, go for hoops, and again
- 27:59Speaker 6: we got Darren do Wilson joining us on Sports done right.
- 28:04Speaker 6: The arena. Wild card number one and then wild card
- 28:08Speaker 6: number two is Saint Thomas and their kind of ascension
- 28:11Speaker 6: into Division one and their success over at the Horizon League.
- 28:15Speaker 6: So I'll start with the arena.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I was.
- 28:18Speaker 6: I was there for the Washington game. I had a
- 28:20Speaker 6: friend who had center court rowe e levin. I mean,
- 28:24Speaker 6: my seat was right on the middle of the court. Beautiful.
- 28:27Speaker 6: It's to seat everybody wants in the arena. But Doogie,
- 28:31Speaker 6: we've met in person a couple of times. You know,
- 28:33Speaker 6: I'm a big guy. I'm six four sixty five. I'm
- 28:35Speaker 6: a big you know, three biller and all that stuff,
- 28:38Speaker 6: and you know those seats there is I mean, forget me.
- 28:42Speaker 6: I have people I have a ex in lass who
- 28:45Speaker 6: are season ticket holders who are barely six feet and
- 28:49Speaker 6: in very good shape and still complain about the leg room.
- 28:52Speaker 6: I've never been in a more uncomfortable court, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 6: for for prime seating in my life. And then when
- 29:00Speaker 6: you have such an older fan base, you make it
- 29:03Speaker 6: so hard to even get into the arena.
- 29:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 29:06Speaker 6: I drove down there all the parking ramps that are
- 29:08Speaker 6: right outside or for season ticket holders, and they're empty,
- 29:12Speaker 6: by the way, you know, so now I got to
- 29:15Speaker 6: go park a few blocks back. I'm over at Target
- 29:18Speaker 6: Center here the other day, you know, for the Oklahoma
- 29:20Speaker 6: City game with my son, and I'm like, man, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 6: I left my jacket in the car because I'm connected
- 29:24Speaker 6: by Skyway and you know all this, and that's what
- 29:28Speaker 6: got me thinking about it, dudees you know, just Williams
- 29:32Speaker 6: Arena itself, so you know, we all know what's been
- 29:35Speaker 6: out there. Build a new one, remodel what's there. I
- 29:39Speaker 6: think what's key and what I like what I heard
- 29:41Speaker 6: from ROYC is taking the capacity down to maybe nine
- 29:44Speaker 6: ten thousand, and maybe that can help make the seating
- 29:49Speaker 6: a little bit more spacious. But let me get your
- 29:52Speaker 6: thoughts here. What are your thoughts on Williams Arena? Do
- 29:55Speaker 6: we build a new one or what do we do?
- 29:58Speaker 3: It is my favorite place in town. Bias toward the
- 30:02Speaker 3: sport of basketball, but it's my favorite venue in town
- 30:06Speaker 3: to watch a game when it's rocking. I freaking love
- 30:11Speaker 3: William's Arena. That being said, I acknowledge everything you just said.
- 30:17Speaker 3: My father in law, longtime season ticket holder, gave up
- 30:20Speaker 3: his tickets two years ago in large part for some
- 30:23Speaker 3: of the stuff you just said, whether it's parking. Even
- 30:25Speaker 3: as a season ticket holder still at seventy six, seventy five,
- 30:29Speaker 3: meaning to walk a good distance to get into the arena,
- 30:33Speaker 3: his tickets were think about the m the yellow seats.
- 30:36Speaker 3: He had a couple of yellow seats, that's how nice
- 30:39Speaker 3: his seats were. And yeah, he's six foot three, six
- 30:43Speaker 3: foot two, you know, and he's not a skinny individual,
- 30:49Speaker 3: not huge, but six'. Two and he's, like it's just not.
- 30:53Speaker 3: COMFORTABLE i don't like sitting in that seat as close
- 30:57Speaker 3: AS i am to the, COURT i just don't like.
- 31:00Speaker 3: It is there a wavence, where, yeah you bring down
- 31:04Speaker 3: the capacity so you eliminate some. Seats patrick's idea nine
- 31:09Speaker 3: thousand ish max so that much more leg. Room is
- 31:13Speaker 3: there a way to keep the infrastructure in place while
- 31:16Speaker 3: remodeling the, concourses the, bathrooms all the other. STUFF i
- 31:22Speaker 3: mean they did hire was A, populace the construction company
- 31:26Speaker 3: out Of Kansas city to do a site survey last.
- 31:30Speaker 3: YEAR i should actually track down what the advice was
- 31:35Speaker 3: from those construction yeahs to. Renovate tear down what conclusion
- 31:42Speaker 3: they came. To, LIKE i think About Fenway. PARK i
- 31:45Speaker 3: mentioned you, know one of my best friends in the
- 31:47Speaker 3: planet works for The Red, Sox So i've spent a
- 31:49Speaker 3: good amount of time over the years At Fenway. Park
- 31:52Speaker 3: think About, fenway what they've, done AND i can lay
- 31:56Speaker 3: it out just behind the. Scenes they've modernized it so.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Much but you're watching a. Game comes The Green monster,
- 32:03Speaker 3: right it's old School fenway when you're in your seat.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Now they haven't solved the leg room issue At. FENWAY
- 32:10Speaker 3: i can promise you, that BUT i just. Concourses there's
- 32:14Speaker 3: a skydeck the seats on top of The Green monster
- 32:17Speaker 3: in left, field skydeck in right field with a bar.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Area they have done so many cool things To Fenway.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Park is there a way to do something comparable To william's?
- 32:28Speaker 3: Arena if the answer is, no then you can sell
- 32:32Speaker 3: me on tearing that bad boy. Down gophers play wherever
- 32:38Speaker 3: for a couple of years and you find it. NOW
- 32:43Speaker 3: i don't know where the money's coming. From, yeah, yeah
- 32:46Speaker 3: there's a lot of moving parts. There but you could
- 32:49Speaker 3: sell me in the idea that a new arena is.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Necessary But i'm just, wondering, right is there a way
- 32:57Speaker 3: to maintain history Raised court the infrastructure inside where you're,
- 33:04Speaker 3: seated but take out some, seats create more leg, room
- 33:08Speaker 3: and then concourses? Bathrooms you? Know is there a way
- 33:12Speaker 3: to add some parking close around with? You parking is a, Disaster,
- 33:15Speaker 3: Yeah AND i don't.
- 33:17Speaker 6: KNOW i mean the concourses is the thing that gets
- 33:20Speaker 6: to me BECAUSE i don't. KNOW i, mean maybe on
- 33:23Speaker 6: The University avenue side you can widen it out a
- 33:26Speaker 6: little bit because there's room to play, there you. Know
- 33:28Speaker 6: but on the other, side WHICH i think Is Fourth,
- 33:30Speaker 6: street you, know you got the street right, there and
- 33:33Speaker 6: then they've already kind of taken the lane, away you,
- 33:37Speaker 6: know for for some other stuff, there so then they
- 33:40Speaker 6: would have to maybe knock it down to one. LANE
- 33:42Speaker 6: i don't, know, dudes but you, KNOW i was listening
- 33:45Speaker 6: guards YOUNG k fan said that they do have another
- 33:48Speaker 6: spot on. CAMPUS i guess that they're looking at if
- 33:51Speaker 6: they have to go that.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Route but, well, yeah so you think about the sky
- 33:55Speaker 3: you mot lot for. Tailgating, YES i guess it would
- 33:58Speaker 3: be what like there's that bubble that athletics. Uses i'm
- 34:04Speaker 3: trying to think if that would be north. South i'm directionally, Challenged,
- 34:09Speaker 3: vince BUT i know where you're talking about those who
- 34:11Speaker 3: have been on. Campus like if you tail gave for
- 34:14Speaker 3: a football Game Huntington Banks stadium, sky you malat like behind,
- 34:18Speaker 3: there there's all sorts of, room you, know maybe in
- 34:22Speaker 3: the vicinity of where the new track setup is right
- 34:26Speaker 3: kind of over in that. AREA i would think they
- 34:28Speaker 3: could build an arena that that would be. Possible but,
- 34:33Speaker 3: again where's the money coming? From there are so many,
- 34:36Speaker 3: questions but, yeah just the overall idea that after ninety eight,
- 34:40Speaker 3: years Is Williams arena turning one hundred and twenty twenty
- 34:43Speaker 3: seven or?
- 34:44Speaker 6: Eight?
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah so it's ninety seven or ninety eight years. Old,
- 34:50Speaker 3: YEAH i MEAN i understand. It, yeah it's Actually i'm
- 34:53Speaker 3: into minority WHEN i SAY i Love Williams, arena that
- 34:57Speaker 3: it's my favorite spot to watch a game and it's.
- 35:00Speaker 3: ROCKING i don't think you could talk to a lot
- 35:02Speaker 3: of people that would agree with that. Take SO i
- 35:05Speaker 3: fully understand. It i'm just, saying, LIKE i need to
- 35:08Speaker 3: see how you solve the financing and all, that BUT
- 35:11Speaker 3: i get.
- 35:12Speaker 6: It, yeah when you think.
- 35:13Speaker 3: About the next thirty to fifty, years because it is
- 35:15Speaker 3: an old crowd. Too oh, yeah, YEAH i was at
- 35:18Speaker 3: The purdue. GAME i was at The oregon. GAME i
- 35:21Speaker 3: was at one other. Game what other game DID i go?
- 35:23Speaker 5: To?
- 35:25Speaker 3: Well was it just those two this? Year Perduing organ
- 35:27Speaker 3: might have just been Purduing organ, Anyway, vince you know
- 35:31Speaker 3: it's a, crowd, right And i'm sitting lower, bowl you,
- 35:34Speaker 3: know seven eight rows, up and you start looking one
- 35:36Speaker 3: section in your, left the people right around, you one
- 35:38Speaker 3: section to your. Right you, Know i'm forty. Five most
- 35:42Speaker 3: people they were they were older than.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Me, well, DOOGIE i just turned fifty six last, weekend
- 35:48Speaker 6: and most people are older than.
- 35:49Speaker 7: ME i.
- 35:50Speaker 3: KNOW i know that's an, issue and, hey, yeah let's
- 35:54Speaker 3: hope they live for, many, many many more, years right,
- 35:58Speaker 3: Speaking when thinking about the next thirty to fifty years
- 36:01Speaker 3: Of gophers, basketball how do you capture those that are now, eight,
- 36:07Speaker 3: nine ten years, old a little bit older right when
- 36:10Speaker 3: thinking about the next thirty to fifty, Years, well a
- 36:14Speaker 3: new arena would help in many ways with that. Battle so,
- 36:18Speaker 3: exactly it's easy to. SUGGEST i just don't know how
- 36:20Speaker 3: you make it, work but it's easy to, suggest and
- 36:24Speaker 3: probably more so than, Ever, vince you can now convince
- 36:27Speaker 3: me that it's time for a new.
- 36:28Speaker 6: Arena, okay, okay you heard it here, first sports done,
- 36:31Speaker 6: Right DOOGIE'S i don't Think i've ever been asked OR
- 36:33Speaker 6: i haven't been, asked you, know if you'd asked me
- 36:36Speaker 6: two three years ago and said.
- 36:37Speaker 3: No way, No but Now i'm.
- 36:42Speaker 6: Kind of was in that same. Boat so that brings
- 36:43Speaker 6: me to wild card number. Two university Of Saint. Thomas
- 36:47Speaker 6: their ascension To division one has been very. Remarkable they
- 36:53Speaker 6: have alumni with some deep pockets who are very happy to,
- 36:58Speaker 6: donate AND i think outside of The university Of, minnesota
- 37:01Speaker 6: the administration at The university Of Saint thomas is, more,
- 37:05Speaker 6: uh let's just, say maybe sports friendly than what they
- 37:08Speaker 6: have at The university Of minnesota. Currently maybe just a little,
- 37:12Speaker 6: bit but, regardless.
- 37:14Speaker 3: And, hey keep in, Mind Liam Penny anderson Not Saint thomas.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Alums that's what's most. Amazing the tens of millions of
- 37:21Speaker 3: dollars The Lee Penny Anderson Arena center whatever they're yeah
- 37:25Speaker 3: usually calling, it which opens up in the. Fall lee
- 37:29Speaker 3: And penny didn't graduate From Saint. Thomas, really, OKAY i
- 37:34Speaker 3: is seventy five million, dollars if not more than that
- 37:37Speaker 3: with other stuff over the. Years they are not alums
- 37:41Speaker 3: Of Saint. Thomas it. Is it's truly. Amazing AND i
- 37:45Speaker 3: was over at the same Timas omaha game a couple saturdays,
- 37:47Speaker 3: ago and So drew AND i parked in that ramp
- 37:51Speaker 3: that's right next to The lee And Penny Anderson, arena
- 37:56Speaker 3: And drewgie hadn't seen, it And i'm, like it's right.
- 37:58Speaker 3: There he's, like, Why like it looks Like cameron indoor
- 38:02Speaker 3: from the. Outside it doesn't look like in. ARENA i
- 38:05Speaker 3: very much look forward to getting a, tour hopefully relatively.
- 38:08Speaker 3: SOON i tried to get a tour this. Week they
- 38:10Speaker 3: said too, Soon But i'm hoping for a tour very very.
- 38:14Speaker 3: SOON i caught up With Johnny tower at the same
- 38:15Speaker 3: time It spend's basketball. Coach, recently he was through, there Right,
- 38:19Speaker 3: fannie he gets, ACCESS i, do doll but don't let
- 38:22Speaker 3: us media types. Through it might still be a couple,
- 38:26Speaker 3: months BUT i very much look forward to getting a
- 38:28Speaker 3: walking tour of. That lee And Penny Anderson. Center slash
- 38:32Speaker 3: arena is going to be so. Nice it's great that for.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Basketball right now they're in The Summit. League But vincent
- 38:39Speaker 3: makes all sorts of. Sense whether it's three, years five,
- 38:42Speaker 3: years seven, YEARS i don't know the. Timeframe but you
- 38:45Speaker 3: think about The Big. East you think About milwaukee With,
- 38:50Speaker 3: Marquette you think About chicago With, DePaul you think About
- 38:54Speaker 3: indianapolis With, butler you think About omaha With. Creighton awing that,
- 39:01Speaker 3: circle it sounds. Weird Big, east you start drawing That midwest. Circle,
- 39:06Speaker 3: theyneapolis The Twin. City absolutely. Same All thomas basketball in
- 39:13Speaker 3: The Big east makes all sorts of.
- 39:16Speaker 6: Sense it, Does it really. Does and that's kind of
- 39:20Speaker 6: Where i'm going with. It so you, know they have the,
- 39:24Speaker 6: money they have this new arena, coming AND i think
- 39:27Speaker 6: they're obviously going to be a threat recruiting wise for
- 39:30Speaker 6: basketball and hockey because, hey they have a new, arena
- 39:34Speaker 6: they have you, know people who are excited and alumni
- 39:39Speaker 6: who are donating some big money over. There things are
- 39:41Speaker 6: just going in the right way at The university Of
- 39:43Speaker 6: Saint thomas on all kinds of levels academically and with
- 39:47Speaker 6: the athletic. Department and that's what kind of scares. Me you,
- 39:51Speaker 6: Know i'm gonna go for alum as, Well. Doogie you,
- 39:53Speaker 6: KNOW i graduated in ninety. Four you, KNOW i grew
- 39:57Speaker 6: up watching some great basketball over, there and that arena
- 40:00Speaker 6: when it was the you, know the toughest ticket in.
- 40:02Speaker 6: Town you literally could never find A gopher basketball. Ticket
- 40:08Speaker 6: and now you, know the team in purple across the,
- 40:12Speaker 6: river just you, know ten minutes down the, road is
- 40:15Speaker 6: really on the verge of doing something and on the
- 40:18Speaker 6: verge of making a lot of. Noise And i'm glad
- 40:20Speaker 6: you brought up The Big east because that's one of
- 40:22Speaker 6: the QUESTIONS i had for, you, was you, know, yeah
- 40:25Speaker 6: they're in the horizon right, now but is there a
- 40:27Speaker 6: chance for.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Yes but, exactly, yeah The Big, east, Yes, vince, yes,
- 40:35Speaker 3: Right and AND i don't follow hockey as. Closely the
- 40:39Speaker 3: women are in the w c H, a SO i
- 40:41Speaker 3: guess they're top of the top right. Now men's. HOCKEY.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Ccha now are they making a shift to the NC
- 40:48Speaker 3: i it's been talked, ABOUT.
- 40:50Speaker 6: I, think But I'm i'm not the biggest hockey. Guy
- 40:53Speaker 6: So alex, mcletty if you're out, there we're gonna get at.
- 40:56Speaker 3: You and, YEAH i don't know IF i know there's
- 40:58Speaker 3: been some. CHATTER i don't know if official or not
- 41:00Speaker 3: joining THE. Ncchc but you know that's top of the
- 41:03Speaker 3: line outside of The Big, ten right college, hockey but
- 41:06Speaker 3: certainly hockey, wise the programs can. Coexist gophers men's, Hockey
- 41:11Speaker 3: gophers women's hockey With Saint thomas both women and. Men
- 41:16Speaker 3: on the basketball, side why can't it be like? Hockey
- 41:19Speaker 3: why Can If Saint thomas in five to seven years
- 41:22Speaker 3: is in The Big, east why CAN'T i think this
- 41:25Speaker 3: market's big enough basketball? Hotbed why Can't why can't this
- 41:31Speaker 3: market vince support A Big ten team and A Big east, Team.
- 41:35Speaker 6: And if they could actually play each, other if The
- 41:38Speaker 6: gophers would kind of loosen the reins on that maybe
- 41:40Speaker 6: a little.
- 41:40Speaker 3: BIT i, Mean i'll tell you. What you talk To
- 41:42Speaker 3: Saint thomas, people they will tell you the mistake That
- 41:48Speaker 3: Ben johnson And Dave thorson made and Now i'm with
- 41:51Speaker 3: The Saint thomas people on. This the mistake they made
- 41:55Speaker 3: was year, One so The tommy's transition FROM d three
- 41:59Speaker 3: TO d. One if you look at that first Year
- 42:02Speaker 3: Tommy's division one, roster go back and look at The
- 42:05Speaker 3: gophers roster that. Year the game should have been played That.
- 42:09Speaker 3: November it would have been Like game two Or game
- 42:11Speaker 3: three for The tommys and Their division one. ERA i
- 42:15Speaker 3: promise you The gophers would have won that game by twenty.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Points it would not have been. Competitive that's When Ben
- 42:22Speaker 3: johnson should have, said, yes let's play the. Game let's
- 42:24Speaker 3: do it the one. Time it's year one for The
- 42:27Speaker 3: tommys In division, one let's do. This that was the
- 42:31Speaker 3: mistake That ben wouldn't play the. Game then now if
- 42:34Speaker 3: you play the, GAME i get it as it really. Is,
- 42:38Speaker 3: okay so you're not playing the game now BECAUSE i
- 42:40Speaker 3: get it From ben's, Standpoint what truly CAN i win
- 42:43Speaker 3: from doing? This but you could have won the game
- 42:46Speaker 3: the first. YEAR i guess that would have been the
- 42:48Speaker 3: twenty one to twenty two, Season ben's first, year, Right
- 42:52Speaker 3: Like i'm just, saying look at The gophers roster that.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Year can look at the roster from that first year
- 42:59Speaker 3: Of division one. One i'm just telling You Saint thomas
- 43:02Speaker 3: people would, admit, well but they would tell you The
- 43:05Speaker 3: gophers would have spanked, us they would have destroyed.
- 43:08Speaker 6: Yep and here's the. THING i. Mean, now for the
- 43:10Speaker 6: past couple of, Years i've actually said on my, podcast
- 43:13Speaker 6: you know THAT i Think Saint thomas has been the
- 43:15Speaker 6: best basketball team in the state college. Wise you, KNOW
- 43:18Speaker 6: i hate to say it as A gopher alum and,
- 43:20Speaker 6: whatnot BUT.
- 43:22Speaker 3: I mean it's, hard right because you're comparing a summer
- 43:25Speaker 3: league schedule to A Big ten. Schedules playing That tommy,
- 43:29Speaker 3: schedule what would The gophers record. Be so it's a
- 43:32Speaker 3: little bit apples and. Oranges BUT i understand you know the,
- 43:36Speaker 3: TAKE i get. IT i, Mean i'll tell you WHAT i.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Mean there were only two thousand people if that in
- 43:43Speaker 3: the arena for That omaha game a couple saturdays. Ago
- 43:46Speaker 3: that place was. Rocket that was so much.
- 43:47Speaker 6: Fun, YEAH i saw some of the high lights of,
- 43:49Speaker 6: it went back watched a little bit of the stream of.
- 43:52Speaker 6: It great.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Crowd you finally have been to a game this. Year
- 43:57Speaker 3: Like i'm just telling, you there's a little bit of
- 43:59Speaker 3: a buzz when it comes to at least the men's.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Program the women they're working on IT a big fan
- 44:05Speaker 3: of Coach ruthie's a sweetheart And Ambers gallia and some
- 44:10Speaker 3: of the other players they. Have it's climbing a little litle.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Bit but the, MEN i, mean they're big time. Now
- 44:17Speaker 3: they need some help this weekend to win The Summer.
- 44:19Speaker 3: League looks Like oma is gonna win the regular season.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Championship tommy's stumbled a couple of times on the road
- 44:26Speaker 3: last week At south To cott Ed Oral. Roberts so
- 44:28Speaker 3: The tommies need all sorts of help to win the
- 44:31Speaker 3: regular season. Championship but they may go To Sue falls
- 44:34Speaker 3: in two weeks and win the postseason. Tournament you, know
- 44:37Speaker 3: they can't go to THE ncaa to the tournament.
- 44:39Speaker 6: Unfortunately, Yeah, like how.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Much fun would that? Be two seeds two Seed tennessee
- 44:46Speaker 3: against fifteen Seed Saint thomas or two Seed Iowa state
- 44:51Speaker 3: against fifteen Seed Saint.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Thomas all, right, well let me keep it moving along,
- 44:59Speaker 6: Here and folks, says we Got dugie AND i don't
- 45:00Speaker 6: want to keep him all. Night he's a busy. Man so,
- 45:03Speaker 6: dudes real. Quick on The Minnesota, TIMBERWOLVES i, mean you,
- 45:08Speaker 6: know you spend a lot of, time you, know following
- 45:11Speaker 6: the ownership, deal and now that.
- 45:12Speaker 3: The ruling is in.
- 45:15Speaker 6: Loy A, rod what do you think they're looking to?
- 45:20Speaker 6: Do you, know you, know let's say The board Of
- 45:23Speaker 6: governors gives them the. Vote you, KNOW i don't foresee
- 45:27Speaker 6: any issues, there but you, Know Glenn taylor has a
- 45:29Speaker 6: lot of friends on that, committee as you, know so you,
- 45:31Speaker 6: know until the vote actually, happens but you, know Obviously
- 45:35Speaker 6: arena's going to be talked about. There but in terms
- 45:37Speaker 6: of just this, team what do you think they as
- 45:40Speaker 6: owners may be looking to do over the next season or?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Two all, right there was a story that came out
- 45:46Speaker 3: FROM espn Last april suggesting That lorie and A rod
- 45:52Speaker 3: we're going to slash. Salary we're going.
- 45:55Speaker 6: To, RIGHT i, remember, Well.
- 45:59Speaker 3: I'll tell you WHAT i think that was planted from
- 46:01Speaker 3: The Glen taylor. Side, okay so that's not. True lori
- 46:05Speaker 3: and Day rod are not looking to drastically cut. Salary
- 46:10Speaker 3: it may happen, organically although you need to Pay. Nazrid
- 46:13Speaker 3: like they, Know nasried is in line for a monster.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Contract he was always going to opt out this national
- 46:20Speaker 3: stem this week a Nas red opting, Out no, bleep
- 46:24Speaker 3: he was always opting. Out it wasn't light next year
- 46:27Speaker 3: for fifteen million. Dollars there's a reason WHY i was
- 46:29Speaker 3: a player. Option he was always opting out after this.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Year look at The Pascal siakam, contract or look at
- 46:36Speaker 3: the Og ananobi contract five, years two hundred and eleven million.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Dollars if You're nasrid's, agent you can use that as
- 46:44Speaker 3: a comp ognanobis making like thirty six million this. Year
- 46:48Speaker 3: we're talking about like thirty four to thirty eight million
- 46:51Speaker 3: dollars if not more per year for Nas reed starting next. Year,
- 46:54Speaker 3: well they're well. Aware this isn't like breaking news The
- 46:58Speaker 3: mark And, alex so it'll be full steam, Ahead Like
- 47:02Speaker 3: Tim connolly came here because Of mark and not because
- 47:07Speaker 3: of you feel good About Tim connolly running the front. Office,
- 47:11Speaker 3: OKAY i absolutely for See tim being here beyond this,
- 47:16Speaker 3: summer even with the opt out in his. Contract yes
- 47:19Speaker 3: on new, Arena yes on exploring A tv, network a
- 47:25Speaker 3: regional sports. Network, heck you know you get the new.
- 47:29Speaker 3: ARENA i, MEAN i think these guys are thinking big,
- 47:33Speaker 3: time like how Much Wild? Tale but how nice would
- 47:37Speaker 3: it be to have the wild and The wolves playing
- 47:38Speaker 3: in the same. Building, Right if you're thinking about creating
- 47:42Speaker 3: a regional sports, network wouldn't it be nice to have
- 47:45Speaker 3: ownership of multiple teams in?
- 47:46Speaker 6: Town, hey real quick and on to jump.
- 47:51Speaker 3: IN i got heard of interest in The twins if
- 47:53Speaker 3: that's what you're, Asking, evince but selling anytime. Soon But
- 47:58Speaker 3: i'm just, saying how nice would it be to have
- 47:59Speaker 3: The why than The wolves under the same. ROOF i,
- 48:03Speaker 3: mean there's already talk of The wild wanting some, renovations
- 48:05Speaker 3: dexl energy set.
- 48:07Speaker 6: Absolute, well here's the QUESTION i have for, you. Dudes
- 48:12Speaker 6: is there any way in this area with the downtown
- 48:15Speaker 6: interest really of both, cities But minneapolis in, particular that
- 48:18Speaker 6: a new arena riot winds up in a suburb.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Somewhere and, yeah whether it's The Farmer's market side Or
- 48:31Speaker 3: Nick holter of a story about the city center, SIDE i,
- 48:35Speaker 3: mean there are a lot of questions if it was City,
- 48:37Speaker 3: center that's a small footprint for, One but it's an interesting.
- 48:42Speaker 3: STORY i thought it was a fascinating story That halter.
- 48:45Speaker 3: WROTE i would imagine it's Downtown minneapolis To. Minneapolis but
- 48:50Speaker 3: if You're mark And, alex wouldn't you leverage cities against
- 48:53Speaker 3: each other trying to come up with the most sweetheart
- 48:57Speaker 3: deal you. Could, so whether That's, Egan, Woodbury Arden, hills
- 49:03Speaker 3: you name the. SUBURB i bring Up egan because of
- 49:07Speaker 3: the land AROUND Tco Performance. Center bring Up Martin hills
- 49:09Speaker 3: because that came up years ago BEFORE Us Bank stadium
- 49:13Speaker 3: came to fruition in Downtown. Minneapolis but some loose chatter
- 49:17Speaker 3: of The vikings exploring a site In Arden. Hills i'm just, saying,
- 49:22Speaker 3: like you, know you're not getting public, financing so you
- 49:24Speaker 3: need to privately finance this. Thing so like if you
- 49:28Speaker 3: get the land for free or, whatever that looks, like,
- 49:31Speaker 3: right wouldn't you leverage cities against each other trying to
- 49:35Speaker 3: get the best deal. POSSIBLE i would think in the
- 49:38Speaker 3: end it would Be. Minneapolis but it's certainly interesting to think.
- 49:42Speaker 3: About put it that.
- 49:43Speaker 6: Way, yeah BECAUSE i have a lot of friends that
- 49:45Speaker 6: live In, atlanta and some you, know they really love
- 49:49Speaker 6: The Braves ballpark down. There what they did kind of
- 49:51Speaker 6: moving it, out and not only the ballpark and self
- 49:54Speaker 6: put the development around, there the, apartments the, restaurants the,
- 49:57Speaker 6: bars the, condos all that. Stuff AND i was just,
- 50:02Speaker 6: wondering you, know because downtown has always been where these stadiums,
- 50:06Speaker 6: are where the teams, play you, know obviously you know
- 50:10Speaker 6: After Metropolitan. Stadium BUT i was, like couldn't get back
- 50:14Speaker 6: to the, suburbs just just the THOUGHT i. Had AND
- 50:17Speaker 6: i think it's.
- 50:19Speaker 3: DONE i don't think it's it's. ASININE i really. Don't and,
- 50:23Speaker 3: hey you think, about like even ten years, ago the
- 50:26Speaker 3: amount of people that worked step foot in Downtown minneapolis
- 50:30Speaker 3: on a daily basis compared to, today great home not the.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Same it just. Isn't and so to, me downtown isn't
- 50:38Speaker 3: quite what it used to. Be still vibrant enough right
- 50:42Speaker 3: like it, was say in twenty, fifteen of course right
- 50:46Speaker 3: after Target field, opened like twenty. Eleven and So i'm just,
- 50:51Speaker 3: saying if you're Markt, alex, okay you fully get. It
- 50:55Speaker 3: public financing not on the. Table so how exactly do
- 50:58Speaker 3: you privately finance this? Thing, well if you can get
- 51:01Speaker 3: a sweetheart deal from a certain, city that would be incredibly.
- 51:05Speaker 3: Appealing so just something to think. About when, YEAH i,
- 51:11Speaker 3: MEAN i don't foresee The board Of governors vote being an.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Issue don't forget that THE nba was subpoened through this whole.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Process oh that Was glenn And glenn's attorneys, right AND
- 51:24Speaker 3: i don't think THE nba felt good about being. Subpoena
- 51:27Speaker 3: i'll just tell you there's no. Way, okay The board
- 51:32Speaker 3: Of governors had Them silver even said It All Star, Weekend.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Like there doesn't seem to be any hiccups on The
- 51:37Speaker 3: board Of governor's. Front probably still at least a month
- 51:40Speaker 3: out from a, vote but it doesn't seem like there's
- 51:44Speaker 3: going to be any. Issues the only issue there could
- 51:45Speaker 3: possibly be is If Glenn taylor Decides i'm going to
- 51:48Speaker 3: try to appeal this. THING i just don't know events
- 51:51Speaker 3: how you, appeal going to try, to like suggest that
- 51:54Speaker 3: there was a bias with the two, judges the two
- 51:57Speaker 3: arbitrators that voted against, YOU i don't know how you approve.
- 52:01Speaker 3: THAT i really don't. Know SO i don't know on
- 52:03Speaker 3: what Grounds glenn could, appeal BUT i guess that that's the.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Unknown at this. Point there's no sense That glenn's going to,
- 52:11Speaker 3: appeal but that could, Change BUT i just don't know
- 52:14Speaker 3: on what grounds he would. Appeal, well it does seem
- 52:17Speaker 3: like it's full steam. Ahead mark And alex taking over
- 52:20Speaker 3: a majority ownership at some point in the next couple.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Months oh kind of.
- 52:24Speaker 6: Perfect all, right, Dudes, well you, know in the last
- 52:27Speaker 6: few minutes we got you, here let's talk about This timberwolves,
- 52:30Speaker 6: team and then we're gonna end it with the vikings
- 52:33Speaker 6: and your thoughts on the quarterback and just some of
- 52:35Speaker 6: their offseason. Moves BUT i was at the Game sunday,
- 52:39Speaker 6: night AND i was, just you, know very, excited obviously
- 52:43Speaker 6: number one, team okay, see and then they started playing the,
- 52:48Speaker 6: game and it's, like you, KNOW i just there's something
- 52:52Speaker 6: about this team that just doesn't sit. Right and then you,
- 52:56Speaker 6: know Ant man looked a little kind of out of
- 52:58Speaker 6: it and before quarter taking us wild, shots really trying
- 53:01Speaker 6: to make too much happen in my. Opinion but you,
- 53:05Speaker 6: know then you got your big guy, out you, know
- 53:09Speaker 6: you got a couple other guys. Out you, know does
- 53:11Speaker 6: he trust his teammates to really make these key? Shots
- 53:14Speaker 6: and obviously we saw what. Happened then now the following
- 53:17Speaker 6: night down In Oklahoma, city we saw what happened as.
- 53:19Speaker 6: Well so you, know who knows what to make of.
- 53:22Speaker 6: It but right, now this team sits in the seventh.
- 53:25Speaker 6: Seed doogie last year was a great. Memory but let's
- 53:31Speaker 6: get the straight dope from, you my, man because what
- 53:33Speaker 6: are your thoughts on where this team is sitting right?
- 53:36Speaker 6: Now and are THEY i, mean, honestly is this as
- 53:39Speaker 6: good as they?
- 53:39Speaker 3: Are? No not. NECESSARILY i mean it's a Favorable march.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Schedule so can they jump above? Seven? Oh? Absolutely look
- 53:48Speaker 3: at The clippers schedule the rest of the. Season look
- 53:51Speaker 3: at The wolf. Schedule The wolves have one of the
- 53:52Speaker 3: easiest remaining schedules in the league BECAUSE i, mean you're
- 53:57Speaker 3: winning all those, games but it's a favorable. SCHEDULE i
- 54:00Speaker 3: do think it's realistic that The wolves jump from seven
- 54:03Speaker 3: to six or even. FIVE i think getting into the
- 54:05Speaker 3: top four home court advantage in the first round that's
- 54:09Speaker 3: going to be. Tough BUT i think there's a, scenario
- 54:11Speaker 3: a very realistic, scenario where they are not in the play.
- 54:14Speaker 3: In And i'll tell you, what if you're in the play,
- 54:16Speaker 3: in Like dallas is going to get healthy by mid.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Eight you're healthy right, Now BUT i Think dallas is
- 54:22Speaker 3: whether they are the, eight nine or ten, SEED i
- 54:25Speaker 3: Think dallas is going to be in the play. In
- 54:28Speaker 3: The warriors are on fire With Jimmy, butler where do
- 54:32Speaker 3: The warriors? Finish i'm just, saying you playing could be.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Fascinating Sacramento phoenix have a run in. Them probably. Not,
- 54:42Speaker 3: YEAH i sort of think right now you're playing is
- 54:45Speaker 3: looking like it's going to be The, Clippers, Warriors, Mavericks. Kings, okay,
- 54:50Speaker 3: Well warriors And MAVs come out of. That i'll tell you,
- 54:56Speaker 3: What i'd hate to be the one or the two.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Seed like if you're A, Pc dallas eliminated you last
- 55:01Speaker 3: year and not get. It the roster is now completely
- 55:03Speaker 3: different with No, Luca but that would be one heck
- 55:06Speaker 3: of a tricky first round matchup if YOU'RE okac playing
- 55:09Speaker 3: the eight Seed Dallas. Mavericks but if you're The wolves
- 55:13Speaker 3: at six or, five it comes down to. Matchups, Vince,
- 55:18Speaker 3: LIKE i don't. Know maybe somebody could sell me On
- 55:21Speaker 3: memphis being a good, matchup BUT i don't like the
- 55:23Speaker 3: idea of The wolves playing The Memphis grizzlies in the first.
- 55:26Speaker 6: Round, YEAH i.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Don't mind them playing The Denver. NUGGETS i, mean we
- 55:31Speaker 3: saw it in Mid january The wolves beat The nuggets
- 55:34Speaker 3: by twenty. Six led wire to wire think about the
- 55:37Speaker 3: playoff series last, Year, like The wolves have had success
- 55:40Speaker 3: against The nuggets going back the last few. Years so
- 55:45Speaker 3: if it's the six Seed wolves against the three Seed,
- 55:47Speaker 3: NUGGETS i wouldn't curl up in the fetal. Position they
- 55:52Speaker 3: could win that. Series if it's the Sixteen wolves against
- 55:55Speaker 3: the three Seed Houston, rockets you mean to tell me
- 55:58Speaker 3: The wolves can't beat The rockets first. Round of course
- 56:00Speaker 3: they can right. Now if it's six Seed wolves against
- 56:05Speaker 3: the three Seed, lakers no questions about The lakers. DEFENSE i,
- 56:10Speaker 3: mean maybe it's biased after Watching Lakers MAVs last, night
- 56:14Speaker 3: but they have a lot of holes on. DEFENSE i
- 56:16Speaker 3: Mean dallas had a lot of wide open looks that
- 56:18Speaker 3: they just.
- 56:19Speaker 6: Missed, YEAH.
- 56:21Speaker 3: I have a lot of questions about The lakers, defense
- 56:24Speaker 3: but The lakers on offense With, Reeves luca And. Lebron
- 56:29Speaker 3: i'm just, SAYING i don't. Know If i'm The, wolves
- 56:30Speaker 3: IF i want to play The lakers in the first, Round,
- 56:34Speaker 3: yeah The wolves would be able to. SCORE i think
- 56:35Speaker 3: on The lakers they would win multiple. Games that wouldn't
- 56:37Speaker 3: be like a four or five game. Series i'm just, saying,
- 56:41Speaker 3: like tell me who they're playing in the first, round
- 56:43Speaker 3: show me how the bracket sets, up Then i'll tell
- 56:47Speaker 3: you for sure how far The wolves legitimately can. Go
- 56:50Speaker 3: but like based on, MATCHUPS i can make a case
- 56:53Speaker 3: they could win a playoff series or. Two DO i
- 56:55Speaker 3: think they're winning the? Championship, NO i. Don't DO i
- 56:58Speaker 3: think they're winning the Last, NO i. DON'T i still
- 57:00Speaker 3: think in a best of seven they're not getting By. Oka,
- 57:03Speaker 3: SEE i get. It they've Played, okay see great the
- 57:05Speaker 3: last couple of. WEEKS i just think in the best
- 57:07Speaker 3: of seven they're not beating The. Thunder but they can
- 57:12Speaker 3: win a series or. Two they're full both winning a
- 57:14Speaker 3: series or, two or if somebody else knocks Out. Oka,
- 57:17Speaker 3: see maybe you have a Favorable Western Conference finals. Matchup
- 57:20Speaker 3: there's a lot of ways to look at. IT i
- 57:21Speaker 3: just need to see what the bracket officially. Is but
- 57:24Speaker 3: when thinking about where The wolves, Finish i'm just telling,
- 57:27Speaker 3: you look at the. Schedule, now maybe they maybe they.
- 57:30Speaker 3: Falter we've seen The wolves the last couple of years
- 57:32Speaker 3: lose a lot of games we thought they'd, win, right
- 57:35Speaker 3: they end up, losing, Right so who. KNOWS i don't
- 57:39Speaker 3: know what is going to look. Like they may be
- 57:41Speaker 3: favored in a bunch of games and ultimately. Lose But
- 57:44Speaker 3: i'm just saying it is such a good schedule that
- 57:47Speaker 3: they should be able to climb up from, seven avoid
- 57:50Speaker 3: the play, in then take their chances based on how
- 57:53Speaker 3: the top three end up shaking. Out if you're the,
- 57:55Speaker 3: six who is that three? Seed?
- 57:58Speaker 6: Right, okay all, Right dougey let Me so we got
- 58:02Speaker 6: like maybe five six minutes. Here we're gonna end this With.
- 58:04Speaker 6: Dougie The Minnesota, Vikings my. Man you, know great, season
- 58:10Speaker 6: obviously the ending, sucks blah blah, Blah BUT i just
- 58:15Speaker 6: wanted to get your take on, it the quarterback situation
- 58:19Speaker 6: and also to you, know what are we looking to
- 58:22Speaker 6: do here in the off? Season in your, opinion what
- 58:24Speaker 6: should The vikings be looking to? Do you, know hit
- 58:27Speaker 6: Man harry calling in a, career more than likely in
- 58:31Speaker 6: some other new. Faces but let's start with the, quarterbacks
- 58:35Speaker 6: because you, Know i've Heard i've had friends that are, like,
- 58:38Speaker 6: god you, guys should you, know franchise? Them you, know
- 58:42Speaker 6: speaking Of, sam you, KNOW i just don't do we
- 58:45Speaker 6: trust THAT jj would be ready coming off such a you,
- 58:48Speaker 6: know a very bad. Injury and obviously you know there's
- 58:52Speaker 6: a couple other names out there in the mix as,
- 58:54Speaker 6: Well So, DOOGIE i turned it over to, you my,
- 58:56Speaker 6: friend what are The vikings looking at? Right now and
- 59:02Speaker 6: off season. Moves what are your thoughts all?
- 59:05Speaker 3: Right before we get to the quarterback, Position Vince canal
- 59:07Speaker 3: for some blowback on the Hitman Harrison. Smith i'm not
- 59:12Speaker 3: convinced he's. Retiring let's see how it plays out the
- 59:15Speaker 3: next week or. Two i'm just telling, you, NO i.
- 59:17Speaker 6: Could totally see that BECAUSE i THINK i saw an,
- 59:20Speaker 6: interview you, know and obviously it's after the game and
- 59:23Speaker 6: the motions are, high BUT i was, like you, know,
- 59:26Speaker 6: yeah you, know people look at how long he's been
- 59:28Speaker 6: here and the great. Statistics, sure But i'm with, you,
- 59:31Speaker 6: Man i'm not sold that he's ready to call it
- 59:34Speaker 6: quitch just.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Now there's a lot of things to figure out contractually.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Speaking but any idea of Whether Harrison smith is retiring or.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Not AND i get, it you're not the first person who's, Suggested,
- 59:44Speaker 3: hey it's a foregone conclusion he's. Retiring i'm just saying
- 59:47Speaker 3: slow down on. That i'm not convinced whatsoever that he
- 59:52Speaker 3: doesn't want to. Play i'm the quarterback. Position i've long
- 59:56Speaker 3: thought this will BE jj McCarthy's team in twenty. Twenty
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: the question still, remains can they create a situation where
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: they slap the franchise tag On Sam darnald then trade
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: him for like a third round. Pick, okay now There's
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford Raiders. Steam but do The rams move Off?
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Stafford if they, don't who The raiders? Get, Well Sam
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: donald to The raiders makes all sorts of. Sense, well
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: guess What The raiders have an extra third round pick
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: from The Devanta adams. Trade, okay The raiders have two
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: picks in the. Seventies would they be willing to give
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: up one of those picks For? Donald those are things
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: being hashed out behind the scenes right now In indianapolis
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: at the combine all sorts of. Dialogue i'm just, SAYING
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: i foresee this Being jaj McCarthy's, Team Sam donald being.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Elsewhere the question is do they just let him outright
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: hit the market or they slapt the tag on. Him
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: the deadline Is march, fourth so we'll know By march
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: fourth is he getting the. Tag if he's getting the,
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Tag i'm telling you don't like look at it and, say,
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: oh that means he's coming back to The. Vikings they
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: have too many other holes to. FILL i just don't
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: think there's a scenario where The vikings are committing forty
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: one million dollars To Sam darnold done the franchise. Tag
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: so if they use the tag on, him that means
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: there's already some sort of to me a trade worked.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Out then you, wonder Is Daniel jones? Back they Want
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Daniel jones? Back so could your top two quarterbacks next
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: year BE jj McCarthy And Daniel. Jones there's a reason
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: why koc so carefully chose his words In august after
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: the McCarthy. Injury i'm paraphrasing a little bit, events but
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: he called McCarthy our franchise. Quarterback we have our franchise.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Quarterback i'm just telling, you you really think they're going
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: to sit there franchise quarterback on the bench for a
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: second consecutive. YEAR i just can't wrap my arms around that.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: Idea SO i Think donald is. Elsewhere McCarthy is the.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Guy but you need an insurance. POLICY i. Understand that's
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: If Daniel jones makes all sorts of, sense let him
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: go through quarterback rehab school for a full. Year think About.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Jones you, know maybe he can get a nice contract
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: this time next, year but come back for The vikings
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: for one more. Year then you think About they know
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: that they need to solve the interior of both, lines
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: that they need at least one guard they need in.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Upgrade you, know in terms of the pass rush with
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: an interior defensive. Lineman they have picked twenty, four so
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: you could solve one of those issues with pick twenty,
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: four or maybe people back from twenty four accumulate an
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: extra pick or. Two so a lot of moving parts.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Internally Byron, murphy junior free agent, cornerback he's as big
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: a priority as. Any but cambine them they can make
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: the contract work. Sure mutual interest right, right there's mutual
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: interest in a lot of different. Guys got Like Dalton.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: REISNER i don't think he's. BACK i don't Think Patrick
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: jones is, Back LIKE i think he's going to get
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: a nice contract, Elsewhere SO i don't think he's. BACK
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: i Think Aaron jones could be back under The vikings.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: Terms let's workload next season and the money isn't what
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: he made last. Year is he willing to play ball
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: on those? Terms that remains to be. Seen you, KNOW
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: i wouldn't rule out The vikings sticking a running back
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: very high in The april.
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: Draft.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: R i mean we're doing all sorts of due diligence this,
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: week you, know formal interviews and what have you with
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: these running. Backs they'll bring some running backs To egan
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: For top thirty. VISITS i, mean The vikings are doing
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: their homework on the running back. Class they are going
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: to draft a running. Back question is just where rights
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: thirst pick or whatever it. Is but, Like i'll be
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: shocked if they don't draft a running. Back so that's
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: another spot to keep an eye. On but you think about,
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: it they have so many free agents. Vents we could
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: do an entire another. Hour my, name who's, back who's?
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: Not but to, me those are the big names to
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: keep an eye, on.
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: Exactly hey, doogie my, man thank you so much for
