- 1:19great topics.
- 1:20So I think that's an important thing to,
- 1:23you know, definitely understand that we're doing some
- 1:27pretty cool stuff here, yeah.
- 1:30So let's get right into the show, shall
- 1:32we?
- 1:33All right, so this is Inspirations for Your
- 1:34Life.
- 1:35This is show five, series five, show 11,
- 1:38episode number six.
- 1:40Today's Thursday.
- 1:41It's all about discipline, integrity, values, and alignment,
- 1:48yes, values and alignment.
- 1:53So our master topic of the week is
- 1:56owning your power, intentional choices, and daily momentum.
- 2:00And I think that's something that a lot
- 2:02of people, for whatever reason, they just don't
- 2:05seem to get like what that's about, or
- 2:08why that is a certain way, and I'm
- 2:11here to explain to you that that's very,
- 2:14very powerful, guys, extremely powerful.
- 2:16But you have to own your choices, okay?
- 2:20Definitely want to own your choices, and yeah,
- 2:24there's a lot of great things that you
- 2:26can actually do and become a better version
- 2:29of yourself.
- 2:30So let's just kick this off, everyone.
- 2:33So welcome to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 2:35I am your host, John Seymour, a serial
- 2:38entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast host,
- 2:45coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and a passionate
- 2:48lifelong learner, and pretty soon I will be
- 2:50a published author.
- 2:52So tonight, I'm exploring discipline, integrity, and alignment,
- 2:56and how deliberate choices, unwavering ethics, and consistent
- 3:00follow-through create unstoppable personal power.
- 3:03And I think that's a lot for some
- 3:06people to digest.
- 3:07They don't realize what that's about or how
- 3:11they can actually embrace that.
- 3:13I think that's a very important thing to
- 3:16understand.
- 3:17How do we actually embrace that?
- 3:23It could be something interesting for a lot
- 3:25of people to realize, but then again, it
- 3:29may not.
- 3:30And I think sometimes some people just don't
- 3:35really get what it's about.
- 3:38And when I say get what it's about,
- 3:42I mean, they do something, but they don't
- 3:45understand necessarily the reason for it or why
- 3:48something happens.
- 3:53So that's something I want to talk about,
- 3:55OK, how we can grow from that.
- 3:59And so thinking about this for just a
- 4:02moment or two, I want to let you
- 4:05know that it's all about the follow-through
- 4:07and creating unstoppable personal power.
- 4:10And so every action you take, guys, shapes
- 4:12your momentum, your clarity, and your long term
- 4:14impact.
- 4:16Every action, even the ones that you think,
- 4:19ah, those don't matter.
- 4:21Yeah, those matter.
- 4:21They all matter.
- 4:23Every single one of them matters, guys.
- 4:26All right, so discipline, building follow-through and
- 4:31momentum is key for your success, my success,
- 4:34and those around you.
- 4:37Discipline ensures follow-through.
- 4:39Commit to your word and see results manifest.
- 4:43Commit.
- 4:45A lot of people don't like to commit.
- 4:48You know, they're non-committers.
- 4:50They just feel that they can just do
- 4:52what they want and hope things will just
- 4:54pop together.
- 4:55So daily discipline actions compound small, consistent steps,
- 5:01create massive outcomes over time.
- 5:04This doesn't just happen overnight.
- 5:05It doesn't happen in five minutes.
- 5:08It doesn't happen even in a week.
- 5:10It takes time, guys.
- 5:11Discipline builds focus, directing your energy toward what
- 5:17truly matters.
- 5:19But sometimes people get, oh, they get lost.
- 5:24I don't realize, like, how this works or
- 5:28how you can make these changes in your
- 5:31life.
- 5:32So I think that's an important thing for
- 5:34us to, you know, to realize how that
- 5:37actually works.
- 5:40So thinking about that for just a moment,
- 5:44I want to recall back on discipline.
- 5:46So discipline reinforces productive habits, and it causes
- 5:51us to repeat success routines to make them
- 5:54automatic.
- 5:55And so when we can get a habit
- 5:57that works and it gets us successful, we
- 5:59keep doing it over and over again, and
- 6:01that's, like, a pretty cool thing, guys.
- 6:04That's a pretty cool thing that happens in
- 6:06our life.
- 6:06So discipline provides freedom through structure.
- 6:10Structure allows creativity and freedom to flourish.
- 6:15Discipline strengthens resilience.
- 6:17Staying the course builds mental toughness.
- 6:21Discipline maintains momentum.
- 6:24Consistency keeps you moving toward your goals.
- 6:28Consistency.
- 6:30Consistency is not hard, but sometimes it gets
- 6:34us a little bit lost, okay?
- 6:39We lose our way.
- 6:40And I think that's something that a lot
- 6:46of people just, they don't get.
- 6:49They don't get.
- 6:51So discipline shapes identity, and your repeat actions
- 6:59define who you are.
- 7:01Sentence focus even fades.
- 7:06Action carries you forward every single time.
- 7:14Pretty cool, right?
- 7:15All right, so let's dive in this a
- 7:18little further.
- 7:19Discipline converts effort into confidence.
- 7:25When we have gotten that natural high in
- 7:29our brain, we want to keep doing it.
- 7:32Like, when I study and I get the
- 7:34problems right, it gives me that natural high.
- 7:37I want to keep doing it.
- 7:38I really love solving problems.
- 7:40Small wins build belief in your ability.
- 7:44Small wins.
- 7:44It doesn't have to be a big win.
- 7:49Some people say, but, John, you know, it's
- 7:50not big enough for me to work on.
- 7:52Well, it is.
- 7:54It absolutely is big enough for you to
- 7:57work on.
- 7:57But you have to realize that it's a
- 8:01choice that you have in your life.
- 8:03If you don't make the choice to be
- 8:06disciplined, to be consistent, you're going to have
- 8:12results that you're not happy with.
- 8:14I mean, that's just pretty straightforward.
- 8:16Commentary.
- 8:17Think of discipline as the engine that keeps
- 8:22your goals moving.
- 8:26Every time you follow through, you reinforce your
- 8:30ability to trust yourself.
- 8:32Discipline isn't about punishment.
- 8:34It's about powering your potential.
- 8:39Discipline's important, but we know that by being
- 8:43disciplined, we can keep doing things over and
- 8:45over again.
- 8:45That's a pretty key factor, that we can
- 8:50make that change in our lives over and
- 8:53over again.
- 9:00That's important.
- 9:05Integrity, trust, reputation, and moral authority.
- 9:13There's a powerhouse for you.
- 9:16Integrity strengthens reputation.
- 9:18Your credibility grows with consistent honesty.
- 9:25When people know your character and they know
- 9:29how you operate, it builds trust with them.
- 9:35They know you're not a loose cannon.
- 9:38Integrity grows with the consistency we elicit forward.
- 9:42Every aligned action adds to our authority in
- 9:45life.
- 9:45Integrity guides unseen choices.
- 9:48Do the right thing even when no one
- 9:49is watching.
- 9:50I've said this so many times.
- 9:52Do the right thing even when no one
- 9:53else is watching.
- 9:57Because when you do this, it shapes your
- 10:00character of who you are.
- 10:07Who you are.
- 10:12That make sense or not?
- 10:23I think when we understand that one premise,
- 10:27there's no limit to what we can do.
- 10:30Integrity sustains our moral authority.
- 10:33Your values set the standard for others.
- 10:35Now, maybe you didn't know you were setting
- 10:38the standard for others, but you're setting a
- 10:40bar for yourself.
- 10:42And other people are noticing that bar you're
- 10:45setting.
- 10:46Integrity builds trust.
- 10:48People follow and rely on those who stay
- 10:50true.
- 10:52That's a no-brainer.
- 10:56Integrity ensures alignment with priorities.
- 10:59Your decisions reflect what matters most in your
- 11:03life.
- 11:06Integrity protects long-term reputation.
- 11:09Short-term shortcuts erode trust.
- 11:13You might say, well, gee, I got to
- 11:14do this just this once.
- 11:16Yeah, and then you're going to cause your
- 11:19trust to just tank.
- 11:23Cause it to tank.
- 11:24And that's something a lot of people don't
- 11:25realize why trust tanks.
- 11:30It tanks because you're not credible.
- 11:39Integrity reduces internal conflict.
- 11:43Alignment with values brings a sense of inner
- 11:46peace.
- 11:50Integrity creates credibility.
- 11:52We've said this before.
- 11:53Your words, your actions need to match consistently.
- 11:58If I say, oh, that's great, and I
- 12:00do this, and I shake my head, oh,
- 12:02that's great, and I do this, that really
- 12:04is going to be a problem because people
- 12:07are going to read that and say, oh,
- 12:09I absolutely agree with you.
- 12:13Or I don't like the way you're acting.
- 12:17I'm sending mixed messages.
- 12:19So if I nod my head and say,
- 12:21I hate the way you're doing that.
- 12:25Or that doesn't make sense.
- 12:27OK, that does.
- 12:28But if I say, oh, that makes sense.
- 12:30That definitely makes sense.
- 12:31And I'm shaking my head.
- 12:32You're like, what's he doing?
- 12:34He's sending messages that don't align.
- 12:38How about you, but that's a very confusing
- 12:40thing.
- 12:45And that
- 12:55can be confusing.
- 13:07And you might say to me, John, I
- 13:08don't get why this is happening this way
- 13:11today.
- 13:11Integrity, guys, directs choices under pressure.
- 13:15Staying principled strengthens decision making.
- 13:22Hmm.
- 13:24So when we operate on a premise of
- 13:29being someone with a characteristic of integrity, people
- 13:37want to gravitate toward us.
- 13:40They want to work with us.
- 13:41They want to befriend us.
- 13:44Commentary, guys, integrity is your unshakable foundation.
- 13:51Integrity is not about something you brag that
- 13:55you have.
- 13:55Integrity is something that you proudly wear on
- 13:59your sleeve or you carry with you.
- 14:03But it's not something you boast about.
- 14:06People will know if you have integrity, trust
- 14:08me.
- 14:08Integrity is your unshakable foundation.
- 14:12When you build a house, does the architect
- 14:14boast, oh, I got the best foundation?
- 14:17No, they know that if they've been building
- 14:19all these structures and they're still standing, there's
- 14:22a good chance that they probably know what
- 14:24they're doing and how to build good foundations.
- 14:26Without it, even the most disciplined person loses
- 14:29credibility.
- 14:30I know that's hard to believe, but it's
- 14:32truthful.
- 14:33Every decision you make either adds or subtracts
- 14:36from the level of your authority and, of
- 14:38course, your influence.
- 14:41So alignment, values, clarity, and, of course, focus
- 14:46are key to this measure.
- 14:48Alignment creates clarity.
- 14:50Knowing your values simplifies tough decisions.
- 14:52And alignment simplifies decisions, less friction, and, of
- 14:57course, more action.
- 14:59Alignment directs energy efficiently, and your focus goes
- 15:02where it matters.
- 15:06Alignment amplifies action, effectiveness.
- 15:10Aligned choices multiply impact.
- 15:14Alignment reduces stress when actions match beliefs.
- 15:19Internal conflict just disappears.
- 15:24Alignment clarifies purpose, and your path becomes astoundingly
- 15:31clear when you know your purpose.
- 15:36Alignment produces confidence.
- 15:39Acting in harmony with values reinforces self-belief.
- 15:44Alignment strengthens long-term vision.
- 15:46Consistent values guide sustainable success.
- 15:54So values are not overrated.
- 15:56People say, oh, I don't want to do
- 15:57that.
- 15:59But it's key, guys.
- 16:05It's absolutely key.
- 16:08Alignment ensures consistent results.
- 16:13Your behavior matches your intention.
- 16:15And I think we all know that our
- 16:17actions need to match our words.
- 16:20If we don't, then we're going to find
- 16:23that we're out of rapport with a lot
- 16:25of people in life.
- 16:28Discipline, guys.
- 16:29Not only discipline, but discipline plus integrity plus
- 16:33alignment.
- 16:33Let me say that again.
- 16:34D-I-A.
- 16:36Discipline plus integrity plus alignment.
- 16:40So D-I-A.
- 16:42Discipline plus integrity plus alignment equals personal power.
- 16:48This triad is unstoppable.
- 16:51The commentary here is when your discipline fuels
- 16:54your integrity and both are aligned with your
- 16:58core values, not the ones you just decided
- 17:01to pick up today, you step into personal
- 17:06power.
- 17:09Alignment doesn't just reduce stress.
- 17:11It amplifies your effectiveness in everything you do.
- 17:15This is where clarity, confidence, and momentum converge.
- 17:25When we think about personal power, it's not
- 17:30about you being stronger than anybody.
- 17:32It's about you being able to operate within
- 17:35a certain framework that gets you to be
- 17:40more efficient, gets you to be less stressed,
- 17:45gets you to enjoy life more.
- 17:47It also gets you to learn from things
- 17:51that you maybe didn't know existed in your
- 17:54life.
- 17:55Maybe you didn't realize that.
- 17:59And that comes from a premise, a premise.
- 18:08A premise that maybe you didn't quite understand.
- 18:18And that premise can give you the ability
- 18:22to be successful or not.
- 18:30So ladies and gentlemen, success is not hard,
- 18:35but success is not always comfortable.
- 18:40And I think what happens with a lot
- 18:42of people is because when something is uncomfortable,
- 18:45people want to get comfortable right away.
- 18:50They don't necessarily want to trudge through the
- 18:54cold.
- 18:56They want to immediately get inside and have
- 18:59a hot cocoa or put the heat on.
- 19:02I was talking to somebody who owns an
- 19:05air conditioning heating company the other day.
- 19:07And I said, tell me something.
- 19:10Are people more impatient in the wintertime when
- 19:14they're cold or in the summertime when it's
- 19:17hot?
- 19:18And she says, oh, in the summertime, hands
- 19:20down.
- 19:21People do not want to be hot.
- 19:23They could deal being cold, but they don't
- 19:25want to be hot.
- 19:26It's clammy.
- 19:27They don't like it.
- 19:28And they do not want to put up
- 19:30with it.
- 19:30I said, oh, wow.
- 19:35So I want you to do something for
- 19:37me.
- 19:38I want you to identify one area this
- 19:40week where your discipline, well, kind of lags.
- 19:46Commit to consistent follow through.
- 19:48There might be an area, and you don't
- 19:50have to share this with me.
- 19:53We're doing this for you, so you can
- 19:55learn what that is.
- 19:59So you can learn what that is.
- 20:03And maybe that's something that you didn't think
- 20:08was possible, but it is.
- 20:15And if you could change that one thing
- 20:20in your life, maybe you're always getting up
- 20:23late in the morning, or maybe you're always
- 20:24missing appointments.
- 20:25You're late for appointments.
- 20:27How would you stop that?
- 20:30He set an alarm.
- 20:32Maybe realize that by you not showing up
- 20:35on time, I've always said this.
- 20:37And I learned this from a limo driver
- 20:39of ours many years ago.
- 20:40He said, if you're on time, you're late.
- 20:45So we were going somewhere on vacation, our
- 20:47family.
- 20:49And you're supposed to pick us up, I
- 20:50think it was 7 o'clock.
- 20:53Or no, 6 o'clock.
- 20:55He was there at 5.
- 20:59He rings the doorbell, like, oh, my gosh.
- 21:01Oh, don't worry.
- 21:02He's like, I'm early.
- 21:02He's like, just take your time.
- 21:04He says, in my business, when you're on
- 21:06time, you are late.
- 21:11Think about that.
- 21:13How many times have you gone somewhere, and
- 21:16you've just made it in the nick of
- 21:17time?
- 21:18Or someone else has just made it, and
- 21:21it was on the time.
- 21:23They're late.
- 21:24Because if you're there on the time, you're
- 21:26late.
- 21:27The appointment has started.
- 21:30And what I want you to do, guys,
- 21:31I want you to examine a recent choice.
- 21:34Did it reflect your core values for which
- 21:37you stand for?
- 21:38If not, how will you adjust to it?
- 21:46Maybe you're always late for appointments.
- 21:48But you don't want to be late.
- 21:50You can adjust to it by just getting
- 21:52up early, setting an alarm.
- 21:55Maybe if the appointment is at 10 o
- 21:59'clock, you give yourself a 9.
- 22:00You give yourself an extra window, because you
- 22:03know things happen.
- 22:04So you build that time into your schedule
- 22:06like a buffer.
- 22:08Maybe you allow time between appointments, so you're
- 22:12not late.
- 22:13I think those are important things.
- 22:15Schedule, guys, 10 minutes daily for alignment, reflection,
- 22:20clarity compounds over time.
- 22:25Avoid shortcuts that compromise your principles.
- 22:28And I want to talk about your core
- 22:30principles that you focus on.
- 22:33Recognize, ladies and gentlemen, that discipline, integrity, and
- 22:37alignment together are the building blocks that transform
- 22:43small actions into unstoppable progress.
- 22:50Now, I know some of you watching or
- 22:51listening are going to be like, oh, John,
- 22:52I'm not going to do that.
- 22:54OK.
- 22:54You don't want to do that.
- 22:55You don't want to become better.
- 22:57That's totally on you.
- 23:00Engaging, which of these three discipline, integrity, or
- 23:09alignment needs your focus this week?
- 23:13Are you not doing something, and you have
- 23:15to motivate yourself to do it?
- 23:17Is it some integrity that you're working toward
- 23:20that you're just not on at the moment?
- 23:22Is that what it's about?
- 23:26I think those are important things.
- 23:29Or is it your alignment?
- 23:31Is it the tools or the methods you're
- 23:33using to connect with something?
- 23:36So one, is it the discipline?
- 23:37Are you just not doing it?
- 23:40Is it you're not doing it because of
- 23:43your integrity, because you're doing something else, and
- 23:46you don't want to do it because you
- 23:49feel you can get out of it?
- 23:51Or is your alignment, is it the tools
- 23:53you're using to connect to something?
- 23:56Think about that for a minute.
- 23:59Which one of these things, discipline, integrity, or
- 24:02alignment, in one area of your life, needs
- 24:05your focus this week?
- 24:07Now, here's the catch.
- 24:09Take one action today or tomorrow that you're
- 24:15going to do, you're going to commit to,
- 24:17strengthen it, and share your results.
- 24:19So if you're missing appointments, maybe you need
- 24:22to go into your electronic calendar and say,
- 24:24OK, my appointment was supposed to be 10
- 24:25o'clock.
- 24:25I need to set my appointment at a
- 24:27half hour earlier.
- 24:28I need an hour earlier.
- 24:30I need to make sure that between appointments,
- 24:32I allow an extra hour window.
- 24:36Could be travel time, could be other things.
- 24:40Maybe you know that you take lunch, and
- 24:43your lunch, you might need an hour and
- 24:45a half lunch.
- 24:46So you've got to make sure you put
- 24:47that on your calendar, so this way something
- 24:49doesn't get scheduled in that time.
- 24:52Momentum, guys, grows from intentional steps.
- 24:59Intentional steps are derived from your core values,
- 25:08not wishful thinking, guys.
- 25:14A wish that we have will get us
- 25:17excited to want to take those intentional steps.
- 25:20But just wishing for something does not make
- 25:24it happen.
- 25:25It brings us into alignment with the steps
- 25:30we need to take to achieve that particular
- 25:34action, or goal, or aspiration.
- 25:39I know a lot of you are saying,
- 25:39John, I don't really want to do this.
- 25:41Well, if you don't want to do that,
- 25:42that's fine.
- 25:43You're either going to stay where you are,
- 25:45or worse, you're going to regress and go
- 25:50backwards.
- 25:51Well, how's that going to happen?
- 25:53Because if your character drops, and your integrity
- 25:56drops, your standards are going to drop.
- 26:04You're going to get lazy.
- 26:05It'll become a habit.
- 26:07Oh, just this time, I'm not going to
- 26:09do it right.
- 26:10Just this time, I'm not going to do
- 26:11it right, or I'm going to skip ahead
- 26:12just this time.
- 26:15Maybe you're reading a book for school or
- 26:18something.
- 26:19You might say, oh, gee, I'm just going
- 26:20to skip reading ahead, just this time.
- 26:23But then you keep doing it, and now
- 26:25you're in a pattern.
- 26:27That's a problem, guys.
- 26:28So ladies and gentlemen, I want to take
- 26:30this opportunity, if I have not already, I
- 26:31want to thank you so much.
- 26:33It's always a privilege, it's a pleasure, and
- 26:35an honor to be with all of you
- 26:36wonderful people here, whether you're watching me live
- 26:39on a replay, or you're listening to the

- 26:44Thank you so much for joining me today
- 26:49on Inspirations for Your Life.
- 26:50Remember, ladies and gentlemen, remember this, remember.
- 26:57Discipline, integrity, and alignment, D-I-A.
- 27:03Remember those three building blocks, D-I-A,
- 27:04discipline, integrity, and alignment.
- 27:06D-I-A aren't abstract concepts.
- 27:11Discipline, integrity, alignment.
- 27:14Discipline is you motivating yourself to do it.
- 27:22Integrity is that you're choosing to do something
- 27:25or not do something because of the moral
- 27:28value.
- 27:29And the alignment is, are you using the
- 27:31right tools to get you to where you
- 27:34want to be?
- 27:35They're not abstract concepts.
- 27:39They are the real tools for real measurable
- 27:44personal power.
- 27:45I've said this once before, guys.
- 27:48If you can measure something, then you can
- 27:55improve it or make it worse because you'll
- 28:00be able to see when you change something,
- 28:04if it affects it.
