1:46
Speaker 3: Andrew Metz from Invent is here. Now, this is the
1:48
Speaker 3: facility that's been operating actually since the nineteen seventies in
1:53
Speaker 3: Eleanor Putnam County. Yesterday a big announcement over there. Talked
1:55
Speaker 3: about a little bit on Metro News midday yesterday that
1:58
Speaker 3: they are expanding, looking at hire about one hundred and
1:59
Speaker 3: so workers over there. And Andrew mets is with the company.
2:04
Speaker 3: He's going to join us and to talk about that
2:05
Speaker 3: the expansion and the job there that they're going to
2:07
Speaker 3: be having tomorrow. Again, they're looking to hire about one
2:09
Speaker 3: hundred people out there in addition to what they already have,
2:12
Speaker 3: So we're going to talk to Andrew Metz about that,
2:14
Speaker 3: coming up a little bit later on. Also, State Democratic
2:16
Speaker 3: Party and chair and Delegate Mike Pushkin will be stopping
2:18
Speaker 3: buys are getting ready for their big Roosevelt Kennedy dinner
2:22
Speaker 3: this Saturday night, big time guest speakers and all. And
2:25
Speaker 3: it's always it's always entertaining when Mike Pushkin's here, So
2:28
Speaker 3: we'll have him coming up a little bit later on.

2:44
Speaker 3: time fundraiser Alex Mahaffy and Jaman Schmidt here to talk
2:48
Speaker 3: about it. Welcome to the show. Hey, hey, folks, Yeah,
2:51
Speaker 3: thank you for having us, Thanks for being here. So
2:54
Speaker 3: what's I don't know how many years has been going on,
2:56
Speaker 3: I mean approximately, because is this happen?
2:59
Speaker 6: Yeah, this is a third air.
3:00
Speaker 3: I was thinking I would have guessed and I would
3:02
Speaker 3: have gotten it right, third annual event. Look at you,
3:04
Speaker 3: look at me knowing stuff. So for people that have
3:07
Speaker 3: never been there, and we'll get in all the ticketing
3:09
Speaker 3: and how it works whatever, just give us an overview
3:11
Speaker 3: of the event.
3:12
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's really fun. We've got food, drinks, We've got
3:16
Speaker 6: DJ Woody Woods. He's going to be operating our dance floor.
3:20
Speaker 6: We've got a silent auction. And one of the cool
3:22
Speaker 6: things about this event is some of the offerings that
3:25
Speaker 6: we have. We have raffle gaming that's like casino style.
3:28
Speaker 6: We also have some fun games that are for the
3:31
Speaker 6: girlies who may not like gambling games. And then we
3:35
Speaker 6: also have a VIP area that has a cigar and
3:38
Speaker 6: bourbon lounge, which I know some of the men will
3:41
Speaker 6: be attracted to. And we've also got DJ EJ out there.
3:44
Speaker 6: And all proceeds from this event actually benefit our transportation programs.
3:49
Speaker 6: And I know a lot of people think goodwill it's.
3:51
Speaker 3: Just our retail store stores, just the stores. Yeah, yeah,
3:56
Speaker 3: there's a whole lot more than that.
3:57
Speaker 6: And Jamon does a lot of our pork pr work
4:00
Speaker 6: and so he gets that all the time. But goodwill
4:03
Speaker 6: is so much more in our programs do so much
4:05
Speaker 6: for the community, and so proceeds from this event directly
4:09
Speaker 6: go to benefit our transportation initiatives.
4:11
Speaker 3: And talk about the I guess we should tell people
4:13
Speaker 3: where and when it is first, Let's get to that,
4:15
Speaker 3: and then I want to talk about the transportation, but
4:17
Speaker 3: give us the location.
4:18
Speaker 6: Absolutely, it's going to be on Thursday, October ninth at
4:20
Speaker 6: Berry Hills Country Club, and we've got some ticket giveaways
4:23
Speaker 6: going on this week and all that information can be
4:25
Speaker 6: found on our socials. But we'll get back to that
4:27
Speaker 6: in a little bit. Jaman, do you want to talk
4:29
Speaker 6: a little bit about our transportation initiatives.
4:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, of course.
4:32
Speaker 7: So there's two programs that we have that we address
4:35
Speaker 7: transportation issues in the state. One is our Mission Mobile program.
4:38
Speaker 7: The other ones are Weals to Work program. The Mission
4:40
Speaker 7: Mobile is basically a bus where we offer our services
4:43
Speaker 7: out of Typically people when they get services from us,
4:45
Speaker 7: they come to one of our centers, our career centers,
4:47
Speaker 7: but this bus travels throughout our twenty county footprint, offering
4:50
Speaker 7: services to people at their local library or sometimes local
4:54
Speaker 7: gas station, depending on where people.
4:56
Speaker 4: Actually flow to in that community.
4:58
Speaker 7: So that's one we also work is a program that
5:00
Speaker 7: we built up about two years ago. I mean it's
5:03
Speaker 7: designed basically to get people into a vehicle. A lots
5:06
Speaker 7: of people have a hard time doing that themselves. We
5:08
Speaker 7: can help match down payment and also do a lot
5:11
Speaker 7: of different things to help them getting the vehicle basically.
5:13
Speaker 7: But anyways, yeah, those are two programs we have.
5:15
Speaker 3: And again it's so much more that this should be
5:17
Speaker 3: your new slogan, so much more than just stores.
5:19
Speaker 8: I like that.
5:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, feel feel free to use that.
5:21
Speaker 6: We like your marketing mind.
5:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, go ahead and stable.
5:26
Speaker 4: It's fun.
5:26
Speaker 3: There's nothing new under the sun. You feel free to
5:28
Speaker 3: feel free to rip it off. But again, I think
5:32
Speaker 3: it's these programs that you talk about about going out
5:34
Speaker 3: in the communities. And again we think of goodwill because
5:37
Speaker 3: we're here in the canav Valley of just being here.
5:39
Speaker 3: But I mean talk about the footprint, as you mentioned,
5:41
Speaker 3: of the entire program of where you guys are the
5:43
Speaker 3: summit rights, goodwill of the summit.
5:45
Speaker 4: That is true. R.
5:46
Speaker 7: Yeah, So I always kind of tell people it's mainly
5:48
Speaker 7: the central southern part of the state.
5:50
Speaker 4: So help me out, Alex.
5:52
Speaker 7: Here, it's as slow as Bluefield High up as Braxton
5:56
Speaker 7: far over as Greenbrier to like Parkersburg area.
5:59
Speaker 3: Okay, that's a kind of our territory.
6:01
Speaker 6: To Wyoming County. Essentially, it's kind of the coverage area.
6:05
Speaker 6: So we have twenty counties and you know, we recognize
6:08
Speaker 6: the geography of a lot of those counties is very
6:11
Speaker 6: rule and so transportation has been a huge barrier for
6:14
Speaker 6: many people in terms of getting to and from just
6:17
Speaker 6: essential needs and work. And so we really want to
6:21
Speaker 6: step in and fill those gaps. And that's something Goodwill is,
6:25
Speaker 6: you know, we're known for, and we want to continue
6:27
Speaker 6: to educate the community that we're not just those retail stores,
6:30
Speaker 6: that we are actually providing these services to the communities
6:33
Speaker 6: that we serve.
6:34
Speaker 3: Talking again to a Jamonishment and Alex Mahaffe from Goodwill,
6:39
Speaker 3: The Goodwill of the Summer, The Dave Allen Show and
6:40
Speaker 3: five D Line, Brown Too and part by Morgan and Morgan,
6:42
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. If You're injured, visit for
6:45
Speaker 3: the People dot com and guys, these things you talk
6:48
Speaker 3: about in traveling in this big footprint from Wyoming County
6:50
Speaker 3: up to Parkersburg is not possible without money and without
6:55
Speaker 3: the donations. And the stores are great, but they could
6:57
Speaker 3: they only do so much. This is you need events
7:00
Speaker 3: like this and it's a great way for people to
7:02
Speaker 3: help out.
7:02
Speaker 6: Yeah, and we just want people to come, have a
7:04
Speaker 6: good time, enjoy the evening, learn a little bit about
7:07
Speaker 6: the mission of Goodwill and what we do, and you know,
7:10
Speaker 6: follow us on Facebook. We're constantly posting content about some
7:15
Speaker 6: of the different initiatives that we have. You know, get
7:17
Speaker 6: on our website, take a look at it. If you
7:20
Speaker 6: have any questions, Jaman and I are always open. You
7:23
Speaker 6: can find our email online on the website. Also on
7:26
Speaker 6: our socials, feel free ask, ask away and and learn
7:30
Speaker 6: about what we're doing.
7:31
Speaker 3: And let's get back to this night because this is
7:34
Speaker 3: one of the premiere eventss you know, four or five
7:36
Speaker 3: six events in the Canal Valley that you got to
7:39
Speaker 3: be at, and this is one of those events exactly.
7:42
Speaker 7: I mean the years past that we've seen from people
7:45
Speaker 7: out being on the patio smoking cigars and join their bourbon,
7:49
Speaker 7: to people at dance floor band. I mean, it's awesome,
7:51
Speaker 7: it's always cool deal.
7:52
Speaker 8: Yeah.
7:53
Speaker 6: Yeah, and you know we've got some ticket giveaways tonight
7:56
Speaker 6: at Working Women's Wednesday Dinner, drinks and dancing tomorrow. You
8:00
Speaker 6: can also catch us on the Woody Wood Show tonight.
8:02
Speaker 6: But we just really appreciate you guys, you know, helping
8:05
Speaker 6: us promote the event, and we just want everybody to
8:07
Speaker 6: come and have a good time.
8:08
Speaker 3: It's it's always a great it's a great, great time. Now,
8:11
Speaker 3: are you still in need of sponsors or is it
8:13
Speaker 3: a little too late for that?
8:15
Speaker 6: Oh no, we're always in need of sponsors.
8:17
Speaker 3: Well, I just didn't know because sometimes with sponsors, you know,
8:19
Speaker 3: there's planting and things like that, So I didn't know
8:21
Speaker 3: you know, how far along you were on that.
8:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, And you can find all this information on
8:25
Speaker 6: our website, Goodwill Summit dot com. You can also follow
8:29
Speaker 6: us on Facebook and follow the event A Night in
8:31
Speaker 6: Monte Carlo, Golden Hour in Monaco. We're very happy about
8:34
Speaker 6: the theme. There's a look book on there to get
8:36
Speaker 6: your outfit inspo and all kinds of cool information. And
8:40
Speaker 6: so again, if you have any questions, you can just
8:43
Speaker 6: reach out to us directly.
8:44
Speaker 3: So I know that you know, anybody is welcome. It
8:47
Speaker 3: as long as they buy the ticket. But talk about
8:49
Speaker 3: the talk about the I don't want to call it costuming,
8:51
Speaker 3: but but talk about the apparel and the attire because
8:54
Speaker 3: this this can be very fun.
8:56
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, And I'm gonna let him on take
8:58
Speaker 6: this one. He's had a lot of fun this.
9:00
Speaker 3: I was gonna say, why do I get the idea,
9:01
Speaker 3: jamm this is this is on you that.
9:03
Speaker 7: You people look at me and they're like, man, this
9:06
Speaker 7: guy dress is nice. Uh No, But we had the
9:11
Speaker 7: princes the pintress board that we were working on and
9:14
Speaker 7: definitely recommend going out there take a look at it.
9:17
Speaker 7: But yeah, you're talking about just looking dapper for that night.
9:19
Speaker 7: And when I say dapper for the guys, nice little
9:23
Speaker 7: suit jacket, maybe you want to throw on a little
9:25
Speaker 7: two button down there, maybe not wear the time, maybe
9:28
Speaker 7: wear a little pocket square that'd be cool. And then
9:31
Speaker 7: of course check out the pintress board and check out.
9:33
Speaker 4: The actual looks or colors.
9:35
Speaker 7: But then for the women's side, I'll let you take
9:36
Speaker 7: over that little bit.
9:38
Speaker 2: Yeah.
9:39
Speaker 6: For the women, we recommend any kind of sunset colors.
9:43
Speaker 6: You know, have fun with your attire. Typically we say
9:46
Speaker 6: cocktail or a little bit more but you know, we
9:50
Speaker 6: want people to have fun with it. Come out, look sharp,
9:53
Speaker 6: have a good time. Uh and you know, absolutely take
9:57
Speaker 6: a take a look at the pintress board. You know,
10:00
Speaker 6: it kind of gives the vibe of the event as
10:02
Speaker 6: well as what to wear, and you know, go from there.
10:05
Speaker 3: It's going to be a great night. Again, give us
10:07
Speaker 3: all the details, the date, the time, pit tickets, wrap.

10:23
Speaker 3: you mentioned working Women's Wednesday that our sister station V
10:26
Speaker 3: one hundred does over at the Red Carpet, And I
10:28
Speaker 3: think they're going to ben giving away tickets over there tonight,
10:30
Speaker 3: so stop mind and seeing them over there.
10:32
Speaker 6: Absolutely, and those tickets are going to be VIP tickets
10:36
Speaker 6: and so that's big time.
10:37
Speaker 3: So definitely what is the vipe?
10:39
Speaker 6: Oh absolutely, so general admission. You have access to the
10:42
Speaker 6: full event. VIP actually get access to the cigar and
10:46
Speaker 6: Bourbon lounge as well as additional entertainment. There'll be food
10:50
Speaker 6: and drinks for both general admission and VIP, but VIP
10:53
Speaker 6: just gets you that little extra and capability to go
10:57
Speaker 6: out on the patio and be in the element of money.
11:00
Speaker 3: Nice, nice, good stuff. Hey, Jamon and Alex, I appreciate

14:43
Speaker 3: at the website wv Metronews dot com. Invent Electric it's
14:47
Speaker 3: a decade's old company in Eleanor, Putnam County, announcing yesterday
14:51
Speaker 3: that they are expanding and they need workers. Andrew Matts
14:54
Speaker 3: is the facility controller for the facility that's for this
14:57
Speaker 3: facility in Eleanor, and they're hosting a job fair there
14:59
Speaker 3: to tomorrow. Andrew joins us to talk about it. Welcome
15:02
Speaker 3: to the show, sir, Thank you.
15:05
Speaker 13: We're glad to be on.
15:06
Speaker 3: And of course we had you on the Metro News
15:08
Speaker 3: midday show yesterday talking about the expansion. So for those
15:12
Speaker 3: who maybe didn't hear the interviewer, haven't read the story
15:15
Speaker 3: on the website yet, give us the overview about this
15:17
Speaker 3: expansion of your facility in Eleanor.
15:21
Speaker 8: Yeah.
15:21
Speaker 13: So, we've been working in the data center industry for
15:24
Speaker 13: the past five years and as we've seen in the
15:27
Speaker 13: news everywhere, it is dramatically expanding in our demand as
15:32
Speaker 13: such has expanded with it, and so we're expanding our
15:35
Speaker 13: facility here by one hundred and seventeen thousand square feet,
15:39
Speaker 13: most of it concrete, as well as a warehouse that'll
15:42
Speaker 13: put pretty much our entire campus under concrete for parking, building, storage, everything.
15:47
Speaker 13: And with that, we're looking to hire at least one
15:49
Speaker 13: hundred employees for our upcoming demand for the rest of
15:53
Speaker 13: twenty twenty five and twenty twenty six.
15:55
Speaker 3: And explain to the people that may not be familiar
15:58
Speaker 3: with it. Again, you've you've been in business there since
16:00
Speaker 3: the seventies, but kind of just give us you over
16:03
Speaker 3: explain exactly what it is you do out there.
16:06
Speaker 13: Yeah, so we build industrial metal buildings for industry. So
16:11
Speaker 13: if you ever go by a substation where you see
16:15
Speaker 13: all the transformers, you'll see a metal building there. That
16:17
Speaker 13: metal building will carry very important equipment to run that substation.
16:24
Speaker 13: In the past five years, we've expanded to where now
16:27
Speaker 13: we're working in the data center industry, and what our
16:28
Speaker 13: building is is it is a system to help make
16:32
Speaker 13: sure that there is an uninterrupted power supply to a
16:35
Speaker 13: data center. So if the power goes starts to go
16:37
Speaker 13: out one of these data centers, there'll be a battery
16:40
Speaker 13: within our system that will kick on to make sure
16:43
Speaker 13: that the power doesn't go off, and then within fifteen
16:45
Speaker 13: twenty minutes, if the power isn't back on, our system
16:48
Speaker 13: will automatically transfer to a generator system so that that
16:51
Speaker 13: data center, no matter what, has a power supply.
16:54
Speaker 3: And how many people do you currently employee there?
16:58
Speaker 13: One hundred and fifty employees, Okay.
16:59
Speaker 3: Got one hundred five now, but you're looking to hire
17:01
Speaker 3: at least one hundred more. Right, that's what you said, right.
17:04
Speaker 13: That's right. Once we're done, we're hoping we have at
17:07
Speaker 13: least two hundred and fifty for the demand that we
17:10
Speaker 13: have right now, not not counting any future demand.
17:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, and let's talk about that demand because I mean, obviously,
17:16
Speaker 3: you know, the company's been in business, as we said,
17:18
Speaker 3: since the nineteen seventies, but there's obviously a greater demand
17:21
Speaker 3: or you wouldn't be doing this.
17:23
Speaker 13: Oh. Absolutely, we still we talk about the data centers now,
17:28
Speaker 13: but we've been really doing this work for five to
17:31
Speaker 13: five to six years within the data center world, and
17:34
Speaker 13: every year it's more work than what we've had before.
17:37
Speaker 13: And we're to the point where, you know, we're changing
17:40
Speaker 13: our processes to almost become like a manufacturing facility for buildings.
17:44
Speaker 13: So we're trying to actually have you know, a gigantic
17:47
Speaker 13: assembly line. We're each building and go through stages to
17:51
Speaker 13: get them out faster from here.
17:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it. I love it again. We're talking
17:54
Speaker 3: with Andrew Mettz from Invent about the expansion of this
17:58
Speaker 3: facility in Eland or Putnam County to day aland show
18:00
Speaker 3: in five eighty Live is broad to you part my
18:02
Speaker 3: husband's pizza. This month, get a large at Niche Pepperoni
18:05
Speaker 3: pizza and an order of fifty cinnamon bytes. We're only
18:07
Speaker 3: twenty ninety nine. Find your closest Hustands for a delivery,
18:11
Speaker 3: pickup or dining at Huston'sizza dot com. Right, so you
18:13
Speaker 3: have a job fare that's going to be tomorrow. What
18:16
Speaker 3: are you looking for in potential employees there?
18:21
Speaker 13: So, the three biggest areas that we need is we
18:24
Speaker 13: need builders who are or people who actually build the
18:26
Speaker 13: buildings that we're going to be having here coming up.
18:29
Speaker 13: We need electricians because these have a pretty highly configured gear.
18:34
Speaker 13: We also have you know why are when we do
18:36
Speaker 13: for the HVC systems that go into these. And then
18:38
Speaker 13: we're looking for a large group of welders as well.
18:41
Speaker 13: Some of the buildings that we do have underlying welding
18:44
Speaker 13: structures that have to be going to place. We also
18:46
Speaker 13: have probably at least five or ten office positions of
18:49
Speaker 13: varying types that we're looking for as well. All right,
18:52
Speaker 13: in that jobfare that we're having to Sorry.
18:53
Speaker 3: No, no, that's okay. I'm just going to ask you
18:55
Speaker 3: about the office positions because anytime you hear a company
18:58
Speaker 3: like this, you automatically think, well, it's it's it's it's
19:01
Speaker 3: the hardcore labor here, you know, it's that's that kind
19:03
Speaker 3: of stuff, and it is. There's a lot of that.
19:05
Speaker 3: But I wasn't aware that you also had office positions.
19:07
Speaker 3: So let's talk about what you're looking for as far
19:09
Speaker 3: as office positions go.
19:11
Speaker 13: Yeah, so we're looking for some lean manufacturing expertise. We're
19:16
Speaker 13: also looking for a project manager. We're looking for, you know,
19:20
Speaker 13: a a scheduler. Various things are supportive to support all
19:25
Speaker 13: of the various work that we're going to be doing
19:26
Speaker 13: next year. And we actually already have a large office
19:29
Speaker 13: group as well. This is to support the additional demand
19:31
Speaker 13: coming up.
19:32
Speaker 3: I love it. And talk about your relationship in Putnam County.
19:36
Speaker 3: I mean you've been there, as we said, for quite
19:38
Speaker 3: some time. What is it about Putnam County Because you
19:40
Speaker 3: could probably take this operation anywhere, but you've you've remaining
19:43
Speaker 3: in Putnam County. Talk about your relationship with the with
19:46
Speaker 3: the officials and the public in Eleanor and in Putnam County.
19:51
Speaker 13: We have always had a great supportive community here in Eleanor,
19:55
Speaker 13: West Virginia, and also across the river in Winfield. The
19:58
Speaker 13: Putnam County commit has been great to us as well
20:01
Speaker 13: as Eleanor. And really the thing that makes us always
20:04
Speaker 13: want to stay here is the people. We have an
20:07
Speaker 13: amazing community of employees. You know, they come from, you know,
20:11
Speaker 13: all around the local area and it just makes it
20:14
Speaker 13: a great place to work.
20:16
Speaker 3: And again, you wouldn't have been in business as long
20:18
Speaker 3: as what you have been if it weren't for that
20:21
Speaker 3: great relationship. Because, as you know, any company is only
20:24
Speaker 3: as good as the community and the workers that support it.
20:27
Speaker 3: So let's talk about the job fare. It is going
20:29
Speaker 3: to be there at your facility. Give us the address
20:31
Speaker 3: of the facility in Eleanor.
20:34
Speaker 13: Yes, it is three two eight Industrial Park Drive, Eleanor Or,
20:38
Speaker 13: West Virginia, and we will be having for qualified individuals.
20:42
Speaker 13: We have the capability to offer on site tomorrow during
20:45
Speaker 13: the job fair on site.
20:46
Speaker 8: I love it. I love it.
20:47
Speaker 3: So if people are interested in any of these jobs,
20:50
Speaker 3: they bring a Resumey is there like a skills test
20:53
Speaker 3: on any of these jobs? What are you looking for there?
20:56
Speaker 13: So obviously if we're looking through electricians and welters, there
21:00
Speaker 13: maybe some you know, testing to to ensure we have
21:02
Speaker 13: good expertise, but you know, bring a resume and also,
21:05
Speaker 13: you know, outside of the job fare, I think it's
21:07
Speaker 13: important that if you can't make the job fair, you
21:09
Speaker 13: can always go to invent dot com, n v e
21:12
Speaker 13: NT dot com, slash careers and then search for the
21:15
Speaker 13: eleanor facility and all of these positions are also available
21:18
Speaker 13: there as well. You just go online for all an
21:19
Speaker 13: application and we will give you a call.
21:21
Speaker 3: Well, congratulations on the expansion of the of the uh
21:26
Speaker 3: the operation out there, because I can tell you you
21:28
Speaker 3: know somebody who lives in Putnam County and know the
21:29
Speaker 3: great things that you all do there, not only just there,
21:31
Speaker 3: but the things that your employees in your company does
21:35
Speaker 3: in the in the community as well. And thank you
21:37
Speaker 3: for your investment uh in in Putnam County because I mean,
21:40
Speaker 3: obviously you're not just going to employ people in Putnham County.
21:42
Speaker 3: You got them driving from all over for these jobs.
21:45
Speaker 13: Yeah, that's right. We have people all the way from
21:47
Speaker 13: point Pleasant that work here already.
21:49
Speaker 3: That's that's good stuff. And now we're looking to hire
21:51
Speaker 3: one hundred or so more. Can you give us I
21:54
Speaker 3: know you said you'll be offering jobs on demand, but
21:57
Speaker 3: can you give us any idea of what some of
21:59
Speaker 3: the pay for these jobs would be. I mean, I
22:01
Speaker 3: know it's a very very ballpark figure. We're not going
22:02
Speaker 3: to hold you to it, but i'm imagining, because you're
22:05
Speaker 3: talking about skilled labor here, I'm imagining you're going to
22:08
Speaker 3: have a pretty pretty decent rate of pay.
22:12
Speaker 13: Yeah, and Midtedly, I'm not HR, so I can't talk
22:15
Speaker 13: m Yeah. Yeah, they are competitive, competitive wages, and they
22:20
Speaker 13: do absolutely range depending on the expresses you come in at.
22:23
Speaker 13: So if you're more at the beginner level, it'll be
22:25
Speaker 13: more of an entry pay. You know, if you're coming
22:27
Speaker 13: in with you know, several years experience or skill set,
22:29
Speaker 13: especially in the electrical and the welding area, that pay
22:33
Speaker 13: will definitely be high as a result of that.
22:34
Speaker 3: All right, give us the website again in case people
22:37
Speaker 3: can't make it to the job there tomorrow.
22:39
Speaker 13: Yes, So it's invent n V E n T dot
22:43
Speaker 13: com slash careers, and then you just go there and
22:45
Speaker 13: you can search for the facility at eleanor West Virginia.
22:48
Speaker 3: Okay, and the hours for the job there tomorrow.
22:52
Speaker 13: It is three to six pm.
22:53
Speaker 3: All right, Andrew, I appreciate you take a time at
22:56
Speaker 3: a schedule to be here. We've had you on there
22:57
Speaker 3: two days in a row. We hed you on the
22:59
Speaker 3: midday show yesterday of a local show here today. We'll
23:01
Speaker 3: leave you alone for a couple of days. But we
23:03
Speaker 3: appreciate it. Man, thanks a lot.
23:05
Speaker 13: Anytime you want to talk about what we're doing here,
23:07
Speaker 13: I'm happy to call in.
23:09
Speaker 3: All right, appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
23:11
Speaker 13: Thank you.
23:12
Speaker 3: Coming up on nine thirty State Democratic Party Cheering Delicate.
23:15
Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin will join us a little bit later on
23:16
Speaker 3: I you know again, I love when I hear these
23:19
Speaker 3: announcements like this, because this is a company that admittedly
23:24
Speaker 3: could be anywhere, and I'm not paid to talk about
23:27
Speaker 3: them or don't sponsor my show or anything like that.
23:29
Speaker 3: I'm just saying that they could have this operation anywhere,
23:33
Speaker 3: but they choose to have it in West Virginia, and
23:35
Speaker 3: I know, I know living in that area that what
23:37
Speaker 3: they give back to the community and very involved in
23:40
Speaker 3: various things, so it was very nice. I was unable
23:43
Speaker 3: to make the ribbon cutting and ceremonies yesterday because you know,
23:48
Speaker 3: work and everything, but it's great and they got a
23:51
Speaker 3: great relationship with elected officials, with the Chamber of Commerce
23:54
Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. So I applaud them.
23:56
Speaker 3: See I just applauded them. Knock out a couple of
24:01
Speaker 3: I said, let's notok out a text here, and then
24:03
Speaker 3: we'll go to break a little bit early ahead and
24:04
Speaker 3: bring pushkin in here. Texas, Dave, I know you saw
24:07
Speaker 3: Trump and Hegsath's presentation to the top military brands. Did
24:11
Speaker 3: you hear the silence after their applause lines? The silence
24:14
Speaker 3: was deafening. That political theater meeting was pitiful. Trump and
24:18
Speaker 3: Pete trying to look so tough and cool but looked
24:20
Speaker 3: like lame os. It's a text.
24:23
Speaker 13: You know.
24:23
Speaker 3: It's interesting because we had a retired Army colonel regular
24:27
Speaker 3: to the show, Colonel Dunn Berner, as we called it,
24:29
Speaker 3: was on the show yesterday and look he applauded because
24:33
Speaker 3: we actually played some of the audio from Hegseth's speech
24:36
Speaker 3: yesterday and Berner was one He absolutely just he thought
24:41
Speaker 3: everything was great. And I think it all depends on
24:44
Speaker 3: your perspective. I was talking to a good friend of
24:46
Speaker 3: mine last night who is retired military, and I just
24:50
Speaker 3: asked him point blank, I said, so what did you
24:52
Speaker 3: think of it? And he's not, like I said, he's retired. Now,
24:54
Speaker 3: I just asked him, I so, what did you think
24:56
Speaker 3: of it? He said, I thought it was great. I
24:57
Speaker 3: think all of these changes that they're making it in
24:58
Speaker 3: the military are great. I'm I'm for one hundred percent.
25:02
Speaker 3: And again, that was a guy who's retired military. Now,
25:04
Speaker 3: not everybody's gonna think that, but I'm just gonna I'm

29:29
Speaker 3: can't fill the roles because standards are unachievable and they
29:32
Speaker 3: lower standards to get rolls filled. Some paper pusher doesn't
29:35
Speaker 3: need to be in the same shape as an infantry soldier,
29:39
Speaker 3: says a text. Mike Pushkin never been accused of being
29:43
Speaker 3: a paper pusher. Is with us right now, hey, no.
29:44
Speaker 18: Man, except when I was a paper carrier, when I
29:47
Speaker 18: was a kid for a short period of time, delivering newspapers.
29:51
Speaker 3: And somebody is out there listening, going, what's a paper carrier?
29:55
Speaker 8: What's a paper?
29:56
Speaker 3: I got one over here that tells you anything. The
29:59
Speaker 3: late Doug Scaff told me he would come in on
30:02
Speaker 3: the show and I always have a copy of the
30:06
Speaker 3: Gazet Mail, you know, in studio with me, and usually
30:08
Speaker 3: the Wall Street Journal as well. Scaff would come in
30:11
Speaker 3: and he would looked at and he would smile and
30:12
Speaker 3: he'd say, I got you, at least you, And I said, well,
30:16
Speaker 3: I live in a neighborhood of older people. You got.
30:18
Speaker 3: You got some pretty good, you know, pretty good circulation
30:21
Speaker 3: here where I live. So all right, so let me
30:24
Speaker 3: start off with this. This Sunday, the Jets and the
30:27
Speaker 3: Cowboys play. Okay, now, somebody has got to win this game,
30:33
Speaker 3: but I mean maybe not. The Cowboys tied the other night.
30:35
Speaker 18: They tie the other night against a very good Green
30:38
Speaker 18: Bay Packer team, so I'd say that was promising for
30:42
Speaker 18: the Cowboys. I can't say much about the New York
30:45
Speaker 18: Jets right now. We looked to be I mean, we
30:47
Speaker 18: had like I think like twelve penalties and three turnovers
30:52
Speaker 18: the other night against you know, the team that I
30:54
Speaker 18: probably despised the most in this world, of Miami Dolphins.
30:58
Speaker 8: It was it was hard to take. Ye.
31:00
Speaker 18: All the Dolphins fans out there, I'm sure you have
31:02
Speaker 18: let me have it, and that's uh, that's your you know,
31:05
Speaker 18: good for you, it's your right to do so. We
31:08
Speaker 18: are currently my New York Jets are currently the worst
31:11
Speaker 18: team in the NFL. You think so, well, I guess
31:14
Speaker 18: some Tennessee Titans might. Yeah, it's between us and the Titans.
31:17
Speaker 18: Who's on the clock for that first pick. I believe
31:20
Speaker 18: next spring they're already.
31:21
Speaker 3: Playing the sad party.
31:23
Speaker 18: So it's even if we get the first pick. We
31:25
Speaker 18: historically are not really good at picking.
31:27
Speaker 3: So that sounds like the Cowboys. Yeah, and that gave
31:30
Speaker 3: the other night. I mean, there should never be a tie,
31:32
Speaker 3: and I mean do something flip a coin, you know,
31:36
Speaker 3: slap fight, competitive dance, do something, you know, there should
31:39
Speaker 3: be There should never be a tie. First time in
31:42
Speaker 3: my lifetime and I'm fifty five years old that the
31:44
Speaker 3: Cowboys have had a tie game. Nineteen sixty nine was
31:46
Speaker 3: a lot.
31:46
Speaker 18: They could have come to the middle of the field
31:47
Speaker 18: and done rock scissors papers, of course, something which often
31:50
Speaker 18: ends in a tie.
31:51
Speaker 3: Also. All right, all right, so let me start. We
31:55
Speaker 3: got a lot of things I want to talk to
31:56
Speaker 3: you government shut down, but I want to talk about
31:57
Speaker 3: the dinner that you got to.
31:59
Speaker 18: Okay, yes week hit hit that that is this Saturday.
32:02
Speaker 18: It's coming up very soon. There are there are tickets
32:04
Speaker 18: still available at wv democrats dot com. Slash r K.
32:10
Speaker 18: RK stands for Roosevelt Kennedy. It's our annual Roosevelt Kennedy
32:13
Speaker 18: Dinner where Democrats from all across the state and we
32:17
Speaker 18: invite you know what, We'll invite independence and non unaffiliated
32:20
Speaker 18: voters and Republicans are welcome there too. But it's a
32:23
Speaker 18: big dinner put on by the West Virginia Democratic Party
32:26
Speaker 18: at Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center and the doors.
32:32
Speaker 8: Opened at six. Let's see, we.
32:34
Speaker 18: Have the Mayor Monroe Nichols, the newly elected mayor from Tulsa, Oklahoma,
32:42
Speaker 18: is one of our keynote speakers. We have two keynote
32:45
Speaker 18: speakers this year, and also a newly elected Congressman from
32:49
Speaker 18: the Northern Virginia, James Walkinshaw, who just recently won in
32:54
Speaker 18: a special election, so not not one, but two great
32:58
Speaker 18: speakers for that event, and of course with other elected
33:02
Speaker 18: officials and the mayor Charleston will be joining us this year.
33:06
Speaker 18: Uh so yeah, it should be a great event and
33:08
Speaker 18: also music provided by the great Bob Thompson. So again,
33:12
Speaker 18: tickets are going fast, but they are still available WV
33:15
Speaker 18: democrats dot com slash r k.
33:18
Speaker 3: So you're not doing any music there. I know you're
33:20
Speaker 3: your official role of State Democratic Party Chair and I
33:22
Speaker 3: have joined mister Thompson for something.
33:24
Speaker 19: Uh.
33:24
Speaker 18: You know, the first year that I was chair, I
33:28
Speaker 18: did sit in with the musical guests that we had,
33:30
Speaker 18: of course, but the musical guest that year, one of
33:33
Speaker 18: our musical guests that year was was my friend Sierra Ferrell,
33:36
Speaker 18: who's killing it right now by the way, more time
33:39
Speaker 18: Grammy winner. So I got to sit in with her
33:41
Speaker 18: at the first figure. Yeah, I should probably just quit. Well, yeah,
33:46
Speaker 18: you're you're right about that, all right.
33:47
Speaker 3: So we'll hit that a little bit later on so
33:49
Speaker 3: we can give you a chance to sell some tickets
33:51
Speaker 3: to that. But I want to talk about last night,
33:53
Speaker 3: uh and the Ctate Democratic Party Chair and some of
33:55
Speaker 3: you folks are State Democratic party, I should he's been
33:57
Speaker 3: doing these kitchen table answer.
34:00
Speaker 18: That's actually I mean to be clear, that's put on
34:02
Speaker 18: by the House Democrats fault, which you know, we're all
34:05
Speaker 18: you know, we're all worked together, and which I'm in both.
34:08
Speaker 2: But you've had a.
34:09
Speaker 3: Series of that. And the last night Year Old into Morto.
34:11
Speaker 18: Number three was last night and that was at the
34:13
Speaker 18: actually it was near Morgantown. It wasn't in Morgantown technically,
34:16
Speaker 18: it was at the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department. And they
34:20
Speaker 18: keep growing. Last night was over one hundred and fifty people.
34:23
Speaker 18: And what was different about last night I think it
34:25
Speaker 18: was because we were in we were near the university.
34:28
Speaker 18: We had a lot of university students there and that's
34:30
Speaker 18: who asked most of the questions.
34:32
Speaker 3: And what are some of the questions that they asked
34:33
Speaker 3: when they came.
34:34
Speaker 18: Well, mainly they're concerned about a future for young people
34:37
Speaker 18: in West Virginia. You know, unfortunately, are our greatest I
34:40
Speaker 18: said this for years, Our greatest export in West Virginia
34:43
Speaker 18: are our young people. We we have you know, people
34:47
Speaker 18: are when they get educated and then then they take off.
34:50
Speaker 18: And that's what we want people to see the world.
34:51
Speaker 18: I encourage people to get out there and everything, but
34:53
Speaker 18: we need people moving here, and we need our university
34:56
Speaker 18: students staying here, or the state has absolutely no. So
35:00
Speaker 18: they were concerned about a lot of the actions from
35:03
Speaker 18: the legislature over the past several years that make this
35:05
Speaker 18: state less attractive.
35:06
Speaker 8: To young people.
35:07
Speaker 18: You know, if we want a future in this state,
35:09
Speaker 18: everything that we do over there at the Bad Idea Factory,
35:13
Speaker 18: that's what I call the state capital, everything that we
35:15
Speaker 18: do over there should be run through the prism of
35:18
Speaker 18: will this bring young people to this state? Will this
35:20
Speaker 18: make this state more attractive for young people to stay?
35:23
Speaker 18: And unfortunately, over the past ten years, and especially over
35:27
Speaker 18: the past several years now that the Republicans have had
35:29
Speaker 18: two supermajorities in the legislature, they've been doing the exact
35:33
Speaker 18: opposite of that. They've been passing legislation that makes kids
35:36
Speaker 18: want to leave here.
35:38
Speaker 3: Give an example of some of those in your opinion.
35:41
Speaker 18: Well, I mean, one thing came up was the fact
35:43
Speaker 18: that this state, I mean, a young woman got up
35:47
Speaker 18: and said that she was reluctant to raise a family
35:50
Speaker 18: here because of something went wrong with her pregnancy. The doctors,
35:55
Speaker 18: you know, are threatened with criminal penalties if something goes
35:59
Speaker 18: wrong because of our draconian laws in regards to women's
36:04
Speaker 18: health caare in this state. And not just I mean,
36:07
Speaker 18: I'm not even just talking about the Dobbs decision and
36:10
Speaker 18: the overturning of ROW, where I feel like most West
36:12
Speaker 18: Virginians would like to be able to speak out on it,
36:15
Speaker 18: would like to have a vote on that, whether or
36:17
Speaker 18: not we are able.
36:17
Speaker 8: To codify ROW.
36:18
Speaker 18: Like other Red states have done, They've put it to
36:21
Speaker 18: the voters, and like President Trump has said, he supports
36:24
Speaker 18: putting it to the voters. Unfortunately, the Republicans in this
36:27
Speaker 18: state don't want to hear from the voters on this,
36:29
Speaker 18: and we've the Democrats in the House have introduced a
36:32
Speaker 18: resolution to put it on the ballot year after year
36:34
Speaker 18: since you know, since twenty three, since the Dobbs decision,
36:39
Speaker 18: and they've been you know, just refused to do that,
36:43
Speaker 18: refuse to let the votership. But that's just one thing. Also,
36:45
Speaker 18: as far as also in regards to women's health, we've
36:48
Speaker 18: tried to pass, you know, laws over the past few
36:51
Speaker 18: years about Duela's about you know that would help with childbirth,
36:56
Speaker 18: about you know, studies on maternal health, you know, just
37:01
Speaker 18: not just talking about Dobbs in row, but just as
37:03
Speaker 18: far as women's health, women's health goes all together, and
37:07
Speaker 18: then just you know, a lot of the focus over
37:09
Speaker 18: the past several years on culture war issues that young
37:13
Speaker 18: people really don't care about. It turns them off from politics.
37:17
Speaker 18: And one thing that I stated last night, it's a
37:21
Speaker 18: lot of these kids, this is all they know. You know,
37:23
Speaker 18: over the past ten years, our politics in this country
37:26
Speaker 18: have been dominated by this vitriolic rhetoric that really turns
37:31
Speaker 18: people off, especially young people, and they don't remember anything
37:34
Speaker 18: before that. And a lot of it stems from the
37:37
Speaker 18: very top, when you have the chief executive you other,
37:40
Speaker 18: president of the United States that spends more time attacking
37:42
Speaker 18: people on Twitter than he does negotiating for his own budget.
37:47
Speaker 8: Yeah, there's a problem.
37:49
Speaker 3: And this was you said there's one hundred people there
37:52
Speaker 3: were They came out last night over over over one
37:54
Speaker 3: hundred people or one hundred and fifty at this event
37:57
Speaker 3: just outside Morgantown. And I'm interested to know you said
38:00
Speaker 3: there were a lot of young people there at the
38:01
Speaker 3: University city. You completely understand that, but I would be
38:03
Speaker 3: interested to know how many people that, if any that
38:06
Speaker 3: probably were that. Weren't there, weren't Democrats were there, Republicans
38:09
Speaker 3: were there, independent.
38:11
Speaker 18: Were independence and unaffiliated voters a lot of that's the
38:14
Speaker 18: fastest growing voting block in the country, independence and unaffiliated voters,
38:18
Speaker 18: and there were a lot, and there were Republicans there.
38:20
Speaker 18: And at every event that we've had, we have had Republicans, independents,
38:24
Speaker 18: unaffiliated voters, and Democrats.
38:26
Speaker 3: What's your message to independent voters, Well, it's it's we're
38:30
Speaker 3: there or.
38:31
Speaker 18: On ail to listen more and it's a listening to
38:34
Speaker 18: the main messages. Hey, we're here to listen. What do
38:37
Speaker 18: you want us to do? We can be better legislators
38:39
Speaker 18: if we get out in the community and listen to you.
38:41
Speaker 18: And that's why I'm so glad that we're going into
38:43
Speaker 18: many districts that don't have democratic representation. Where we were
38:47
Speaker 18: last night, Yeah, we were in mon County, but we
38:49
Speaker 18: were in a part that's that's currently represented by a
38:53
Speaker 18: Republican in the House of Delegates. And we went into
38:56
Speaker 18: his district and heard from folks in his district and
39:00
Speaker 18: what we're hearing and that's why we're calling it a
39:02
Speaker 18: kitchen table tour because what we're hearing about are more
39:04
Speaker 18: about issues that you think about people talking about around
39:07
Speaker 18: their kitchen table, things that affect their day to day lives.
39:10
Speaker 18: A big issue is access to healthcare. A lot of people,
39:14
Speaker 18: not just folks on Medicaid, but small business owners, independent contractors, entrepreneurs.
39:19
Speaker 18: They're about to see their premium's skyrocket right now, and
39:23
Speaker 18: they're about to see a tax increase because of this
39:27
Speaker 18: continuing resolution that the Republicans seem so unwilling to compromise
39:32
Speaker 18: on in Washington. So that's a big concern as a
39:35
Speaker 18: people's the cost of healthcare in this country all around.
39:38
Speaker 18: And of course, you know, our public employees, which we
39:41
Speaker 18: have a whole lot of here in knag County and
39:43
Speaker 18: a whole lot up in Mond County as well, where
39:46
Speaker 18: we were last night, have seen three premium increases over
39:49
Speaker 18: the past couple of years since the passage of Senate
39:53
Speaker 18: Bill two sixty eight, which has led to these drastic
39:56
Speaker 18: premium increases for our state workers, our teachers, our child
40:00
Speaker 18: protective service workers, or our correctional officers, the people who
40:04
Speaker 18: build our bridges and fix our roads their see and
40:06
Speaker 18: not to mention, well, we'll mention our retirees who live
40:09
Speaker 18: on fixed incomes. They're seeing rate increases, which in effect
40:13
Speaker 18: is a pay cut. So yeah, those are kitchen table
40:16
Speaker 18: issues that those are things that affect our day to
40:18
Speaker 18: day lives and not these culture war issues that are
40:20
Speaker 18: only meant to help people who are really, in my opinion,
40:25
Speaker 18: not qualified for the job get re elected to a job.
40:28
Speaker 3: How is the candidate recruitment going, as the state Democrat.
40:31
Speaker 8: Very well, it's going very well.
40:34
Speaker 11: I can tell you.
40:34
Speaker 3: A lot of people on the Republican side have already
40:37
Speaker 3: announced that they're running, which I think is kind of interesting.
40:40
Speaker 3: You know that you've got so many Republicans that are
40:42
Speaker 3: running against other Republicans, but that comes with being the
40:45
Speaker 3: party in power.
40:46
Speaker 18: I believe with shaping up that we're going to have
40:47
Speaker 18: some primaries as well, especially at the top of our ticket.
40:50
Speaker 18: There's been a lot of interest, and of course the
40:53
Speaker 18: filing period is in January. That's when we know for sure.
40:55
Speaker 18: But right now, if you look at the Secretary State's website,
40:58
Speaker 18: you will see more Democrats profile than you have in
41:01
Speaker 18: the past several cycles. So we're ahead of the game
41:04
Speaker 18: from where we were a couple of years ago, and
41:05
Speaker 18: I think that's only going to increase because people are
41:07
Speaker 18: fed up with the way things are.
41:09
Speaker 8: Going right now.
41:09
Speaker 18: I want to go back to a lot of people
41:10
Speaker 18: who want to step up and be the change that
41:13
Speaker 18: they want to see.
41:14
Speaker 3: I want to go back to the Kitchen Table events
41:15
Speaker 3: just for a moment, because this one was held outside
41:17
Speaker 3: of Morgantown last night. You got several more, and there
41:19
Speaker 3: is come one coming to Charleston.
41:20

41:25
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, well, obviously the government shut down. I
41:28
Speaker 3: want to get in to that partial partial government shutdown.
41:32
Speaker 3: I get corrected every time I say shut down, but
41:33
Speaker 3: it's partial government shutdown. So we'll get into that here

44:36
Speaker 3: Welcome back to the show Today Island Show and five
44:38
Speaker 3: Vidieline brought to you apart by your hometown baseball team,
44:40
Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. The season is over, but the
44:42
Speaker 3: Selango All Light the Night coming back to go mark
44:45
Speaker 3: Ballpart November twenty first through January first. Get your tickets
44:47
Speaker 3: in advanced by visiting Dblightthnight dot com and a couple
44:52
Speaker 3: of texts to your text says News last year earlier
44:54
Speaker 3: Texter trying to make something out of no applause by
44:57
Speaker 3: top military brass after Hegset's speech. Pro a call is
45:00
Speaker 3: the same as with the Supreme Court justices. They do
45:02
Speaker 3: not applaud for either side military and judicial art to
45:06
Speaker 3: remain unaffiliated in neutral. So try again with your hate attempts.
45:10
Speaker 3: Text says, tell it flat out. Young people is left
45:13
Speaker 3: to speak for easily manipulated progressive voters. Otherwise you would
45:17
Speaker 3: not call people on the other side who do move
45:20
Speaker 3: here and run for political offices. Carpetbaggers. Can't be anything else,
45:24
Speaker 3: be honest, it's a texture. Uh never heard that word
45:29
Speaker 3: come out of my mouth. Okay, carpetbager. I like people
45:32
Speaker 3: to move here, I mean, and the people that here's
45:34
Speaker 3: what I'll say about the people that throw out the
45:37
Speaker 3: term carpetbagger, about people moving here whatever. Jay Rockefeller would
45:40
Speaker 3: be one. So it's it's not like it's new. It's
45:43
Speaker 3: not like that's what I'm saying about.
45:45
Speaker 18: He's a lot of people I like, a lot of
45:49
Speaker 18: people I serve with right now who aren't from I mean,
45:52
Speaker 18: I serve with Senator Robert Carnes, he lived in Florida,
45:58
Speaker 18: points for Butschkin.
46:00
Speaker 3: Text sits so if I understand correctly, one Democrat doesn't
46:03
Speaker 3: have one Democrat doesn't have enough good to speak about
46:08
Speaker 3: this requiring two Democrats to fill the bill. It's a
46:10
Speaker 3: text tech says on the government shutdown. It sucks for
46:13
Speaker 3: government workers not getting paid. Democrats finally have leverage and
46:16
Speaker 3: they should use it while they can't. If they concede
46:18
Speaker 3: to the resolution, they'll be back in the same spot
46:20
Speaker 3: in seven weeks with Republicans unwilling to negotiate in good faith.
46:24
Speaker 3: Congress is a failure. I wish West Virginia news media
46:26
Speaker 3: would treat our congressional delegation like the failures that they are.
46:30
Speaker 18: I do I agree with that text. I think we
46:33
Speaker 18: need to be honest about what's going on. Look, obviously,
46:35
Speaker 18: the Republicans have the executive branch, they have the White House,
46:39
Speaker 18: they have both. They have control of Congress, the House
46:42
Speaker 18: and the Senate, and they have control of the judicial
46:45
Speaker 18: branch as well. This shutdowns on them. You know, the
46:50
Speaker 18: same people that are you know, crying foul about this
46:53
Speaker 18: shutdown or the same people just you know, six months ago,
46:55
Speaker 18: were in favor of the filibuster rule, which is supposed
46:59
Speaker 18: to incur ridge compromise in the Senate. That's where things
47:03
Speaker 18: are supposed to slow down. I'm starting to sound like
47:05
Speaker 18: Senator Mansioneer. That's where things slow down, or in the Senate,
47:08
Speaker 18: that's where you're supposed to reach compromise. And there was
47:10
Speaker 18: a complete unwillingness on the part of President Trump and
47:13
Speaker 18: the Republicans in Congress to compromise on this continuing Resolution.
47:17
Speaker 18: And I'm tired of hearing this. Well, the Democrats voted
47:20
Speaker 18: on a clean this isn't a clean bill. You're talking
47:22
Speaker 18: about the Trump budget, which is going to severely impact
47:25
Speaker 18: people across this country and especially here in West Virginia.
47:28
Speaker 18: We have a whole lot of people, like sixty thousand
47:31
Speaker 18: people in danger of losing their health care, many more
47:35
Speaker 18: in danger of seeing premiums go up because these the
47:39
Speaker 18: tax credits are no longer and when they don't extend this,
47:41
Speaker 18: that's a tax increase. That continuing Resolution is a tax
47:46
Speaker 18: increase on many of our small business owners, our entrepreneurs
47:49
Speaker 18: are independent contractors. So yes, the Democrats in the Senate
47:53
Speaker 18: need to use every tool with their disposal to fight
47:55
Speaker 18: to do what they're supposed to do, do their job
47:57
Speaker 18: and fight for their constituents who are in danger of
48:01
Speaker 18: losing access to healthcare. Right now, that's what that Continuing
48:04
Speaker 18: Resolution continues a really bad budget that was forced through
48:09
Speaker 18: without any compromise at all.
48:11
Speaker 3: I mean when you turn on you know, the TV
48:13
Speaker 3: or radio or whatever, and and you see people in
48:17
Speaker 3: Washington just and you mentioned Senator Mansion, and of course
48:22
Speaker 3: he's got a new book out, and we've had him
48:24
Speaker 3: on the show and so on and so forth. Why
48:26
Speaker 3: can't we just why can't we just get along? Why
48:28
Speaker 3: can't we just work in Washington? I mean in West Virginia.
48:33
Speaker 3: I mean, I know you've got your issues with the
48:35
Speaker 3: with the Republicans obviously in the legislature whatever, but you
48:39
Speaker 3: guys can work together on certain things. Why can't we
48:41
Speaker 3: That's why they have that rule.
48:43
Speaker 18: Okay, And I've been you know, in the past when
48:45
Speaker 18: you know, obviously I've had issues with it when we
48:47
Speaker 18: were trying to get like past the John Lewis Voting
48:50
Speaker 18: Rights Act. I thought that was something that they, the Republicans,
48:54
Speaker 18: should have compromised on.
48:55
Speaker 8: They refused two years ago. But it's the same rule.
48:57
Speaker 8: It's a filibuster rule.
48:58
Speaker 18: That's why they need sixty vote to pass this continuing Resolution,
49:01
Speaker 18: and that should encourage compromise. But there's been a complete
49:05
Speaker 18: unwillingness on the part of the Republicans to compromise on this.
49:09
Speaker 18: Why would any Democrat vote for a huge tax cut
49:13
Speaker 18: for billionaires at the expense of working people, raising people's
49:18
Speaker 18: premiums to pay for and cutting people off of their
49:22
Speaker 18: healthcare to offset a tax break for billionaires. Democrats are
49:26
Speaker 18: not going to vote for that, nor should they vote
49:28
Speaker 18: for that. But you have that sixty vote rule, which
49:31
Speaker 18: means the Republicans need to sit down at the table
49:33
Speaker 18: and figure out what they can get past. They've been
49:36
Speaker 18: unwilling to do this. Look, the Democrats are still in Washington,
49:38
Speaker 18: d C. The Republicans went home. You know, Congressman Riley
49:42
Speaker 18: Moore is probably on Twitter somewhere and he's your friend. Yeah,
49:46
Speaker 18: you know, dear friend.
49:47
Speaker 3: Well, you guys were friends at one point. He's told me.
49:49
Speaker 18: That until he went off the deep end, started taking
49:52
Speaker 18: selfies in front of detentions, you know, out of detention
49:56
Speaker 18: centers in l Salvador. Found that to be a little
49:59
Speaker 18: off putting this say the least. But you know, the
50:01
Speaker 18: Republicans left, the Democrats were there ready to work. Yeah,
50:05
Speaker 18: somebody was talking about, uh, the fact that the president
50:07
Speaker 18: was at the Ryder Cup this past weekend. Yeah, I mean,
50:10
Speaker 18: you know, doing everything except as job okay, uh, you know,
50:14
Speaker 18: talking in front and I you know what what concerns
50:16
Speaker 18: me about the speech in front of the military leadership.
50:19
Speaker 18: It wasn't so much as what Hexas said. It's what
50:22
Speaker 18: the President said saying the enemy is within UH, saying
50:26
Speaker 18: that this this uh, implying that we're going to use
50:28
Speaker 18: the military against American citizens.
50:30
Speaker 8: That that should scare everybody.
50:32
Speaker 3: But what do you think when you see the Louisiana
50:34
Speaker 3: folks who are asking for it?
50:36
Speaker 18: Well, that you know that the governor, the governor can
50:39
Speaker 18: call in is own that the governor and the National
50:41
Speaker 18: Guards or the state Uh. You know, that's the the
50:44
Speaker 18: that's at the dispense of the disposal of the governor.
50:46
Speaker 18: The governor can call them in. Generally they're used for
50:49
Speaker 18: things like there's a big relief. There's a big difference,
50:51
Speaker 18: not not as a as a police force, nor nor
50:54
Speaker 18: should they.
50:54
Speaker 3: There's a big difference I think between because somebody pointed
50:56
Speaker 3: out to me, but I think there's a big difference
50:58
Speaker 3: between the governor uh asking for help and the President
51:02
Speaker 3: saying we're coming in. I think there. I mean that's
51:05
Speaker 3: and I have a problem with that as well.
51:06
Speaker 18: Yeah, you know, over the years, we've heard a lot
51:08
Speaker 18: of talk about the First Amendment protecting our First Amendment rights,
51:11
Speaker 18: and of course you know about the Second Amendment. Who
51:13
Speaker 18: knew that in twenty twenty five the Third Amendment was
51:16
Speaker 18: going to be a big issue.
51:19
Speaker 3: Tex says, you know, some people hoopton holler during the
51:21
Speaker 3: hegset speech, but more people, more people were silent, and
51:25
Speaker 3: that speaks volumes to the quality and the content of
51:28
Speaker 3: the speech.
51:28
Speaker 18: I was more concerned about what the President said about
51:31
Speaker 18: using our military against our own citizens, and we should
51:34
Speaker 18: all be concerned about that.
51:35
Speaker 3: All right, before we let you go, give us the
51:37
Speaker 3: info on the on the dinner this week.
51:39

51:51
Speaker 18: by Bob Thompson. And you can get those tickets there
