- 0:03Now listen, Homer. You can have me anytime you want me, m
- 0:07Marge, but if you say one word to your wife, I'll tell her
- 0:09you attacked me. What is it, sweetie? Everyone's wearing clothes in here.
- 0:16What's nice? Forefinger discount dude, Welcome to four figure discount where.
- 0:37This week we're going to be reviewing episode two of season nineteen. It is
- 0:40the Homer of Seville. I believe it's called Seville. Owever it's pronounced.
- 0:43I'm gonna say Seville. I'm Dando and I am Guy. Yes, And
- 0:48I don't need to kick this episode off. I think maybe to give you
- 0:51my thoughts on the to sum up my thoughts on this episode, I should
- 0:56echo or pay tribute to someone that we love and respect here at four a
- 1:00discount. Adam Sandler and his character from seven out Live Opera. Man,
- 1:03I think it's only fitting. Yeah, want to love out of lock all,
- 1:08Homo Saville, mut your suckle. This was not good. I watched
- 1:17this three times, this episode, so I watch it once and then I
- 1:23watch it again for notes, and I sort of skim through it before we
- 1:25do our review, just so it's completely fresh in my mind. It's a
- 1:27weird one because Carolyn Amine wrote this one right. Yes, we like Carolyn,
- 1:33Yeah yeah, and normally I love for episodes. I think you need
- 1:34to start watching it twice, like just watch it without taking because when you
- 1:38find if you watch these ones and take notes at the same time, because
- 1:41do you have a pause and take notes and things like that, I do
- 1:44watch it first and just watch it, okay, and then do a note
- 1:47run just for forfeiting dicap episodes at least because you know, South Bark's still
- 1:51a top quality season. Nineteen Simpsons not so much. I recommend going forward
- 1:56doing the double header because the double Header. The second time or third time
- 1:57I watched it, I enjoyed it a lot more. Not great, but
- 2:02I didn't dislike it as much. So I think I enjoyed is it Maya
- 2:07Rudolph Maya Rudolph. I enjoyed her as Julie a lot more the second time.
- 2:13I thought she was a really interesting character, but I think the story
- 2:15needed to focus more on that because we again get a much annoyed at Homer
- 2:20story and it's just the fighter you. I can understand why she would be
- 2:23annoyed that Homer's flirt. Mother Girls and sort of not paying as much attention
- 2:25to her because he's too busy with his fame. But it seemed to come
- 2:28out of nowhere. It's just they go on their date and their margins like,
- 2:31spend more time with me. I thought, you need to build up
- 2:34to that more. It was just all of a sudden, he's got an
- 2:37Entourage, and which I didn't mind. The Entourage parody, a show that
- 2:39we don't really mention anymore because it's very pre me too, kind of yes,
- 2:45yeah, yeah, and just home. It's the show I would enjoyed
- 2:49it when I was in high school. And yeah, I looked back around
- 2:51and go, yeah, I can see why I liked it in high school,
- 2:53but five probably not. From what I recall of Entourage, it started
- 2:57off pretty smart, I mean of an inside baseball look at how Hollywood operates.
- 3:01Ari just became a parody of himself, and then it just became well,
- 3:06the whole thing became a parody of itself. But really, I think
- 3:07people, well certainly Marky Mark, who was the inspiration for the show,
- 3:14and I guess one of the main drivers of it. I think you realized
- 3:16people like seeing Bro's hand, why does he sound like Sylvester s that's on
- 3:21me. You go and did the face your shirt off and then got back.
- 3:25He's one up down the stairs, come back, come back. I'm
- 3:30sure I could do a Markey Mark voice, but I want to mean,
- 3:32let's just say, just do a John Sena impersonation. That's even harder,
- 3:36is it. Well? He looks and sounds like John Cena, right,
- 3:38know, they they look very similar to him and John Cena. I think
- 3:40they went to the same I think they bought their hair from the same place.
- 3:45But they listen to is Sena or Boston guy? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:47listen to them both together and they sound exactly the same. Wow. Like
- 3:53I mean, I've always got my unified theory of like there's only like six
- 3:57faces in Hollywood and they just recycled them over various actors. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:01The only imitation I can do with Mark Wolburg is Andy Samberg doing Mark
- 4:04Wolburg. It's like he got your goat. I love you, mother.
- 4:10I don't know his name, but you see him very regularly as a d
- 4:14A or a defendant. Fat John Cena. Do you know what I'm talking
- 4:17about? Fat Sina. No, he's an actor. He was in the
- 4:19Wire oh, I think, Yeah, I'm going to google fat John Cena
- 4:25and see if it comes up. No, I was just going to give
- 4:27you a bunch of fat John Sens. Delaney Williams. Do you know,
- 4:30Delaney Williams. I do not google Delaney Williams. And I guarantee you know
- 4:34when you see his face, always lost a lot of weight. Now he's
- 4:36skinny John, He's normal, He's just he's just old John Cena. I
- 4:43do see exactly what you mean. Though, he's gone full Roseanne. What's
- 4:48his name? The lasmund good John Goodman. He's gone John Goodman. He's
- 4:51lost all. It looks different. It looks weird now, doesn't his way
- 4:54knights lost weight? It's like, oh, man, man, how dare
- 4:58you get Alfie Rebel Wilson? Have you seen he look chick at fat Johnsen?
- 5:02And now look at the fitty looks now it looks unbelievable. He looks
- 5:08like actor James Remark. He looks from Dexter and other things. He looks
- 5:12so good, well done, well done, Delaney Williams. Good for you,
- 5:15Delaney Williams. Uh not good for you, Homer of Saville. I
- 5:18know I should have watched it. Twice, maybe three times, like a
- 5:21flag appel Dando, who's a glutton for punishment. I watched it and look,
- 5:26this was just, to use the common parlance, this was a nothing
- 5:30burger. There was the first thing, nothing to this. There was so
- 5:32much of just it was almost so off. They went, hey, Dan,
- 5:35do you want to showcase you can sing opera? And it was just
- 5:39so much of it, and you think, none of this is just funny.
- 5:41It's just Dan singing. Yes, absolutely, the whole bit in the
- 5:45in the hospital, it's people, are you know, doing funny things?
- 5:47You think they're funny things whilst he's singing, but it's like they're not all
- 5:50that funny. Really, absolutely, and it's just philer Jane. Let me
- 5:55ask you something. Are you familiar with the concept of a hat on a
- 5:58hat. I've never heard that phrase. This is where you have a joke
- 6:01and you add more to the joke just in case people don't get the joke,
- 6:05So you put a hat on a hat, kind of like when they
- 6:09point out, hey, it's guest star so and so yes, or where
- 6:13you have say, Lenny and Carl in the back of the limousine, the
- 6:15two opera groupies and it's like, well, you're not gonna get with Homer,
- 6:18but you can get with me. And then they play Superman from Entourage,
- 6:21just in case you didn't get that these were guys who were sort of
- 6:26hangers on a lah An entourage. It's insulting to my intelligence. It's insulting
- 6:32to everyone's intelligence. Just the idea of Lenny and Carl slipping with these old
- 6:36women in the car is enough to meet me. Go, this is not
- 6:40this is not cool. Look, there was a lot that was not cool
- 6:43in this episode. Ah and listens to the show, will realize that I
- 6:48am a person of generation ex and therefore I have a tolerance for just about
- 6:51anything. In this episode, it's like the behavior of the family is boorish
- 6:58and crass and terrible. Not just Homer, but oh I thought Bart was
- 7:02horrific. That was terrible, making the kick give him money and things.
- 7:05I thought, how you're making him despicable. Yes, this isn't him being
- 7:10a brat. This is horrific. Notes actual words from guy's notes. Fuck
- 7:15off Bart. Yeah, this is not in any way funny, And it's
- 7:18not him putting a cherry bomb down the toilets at school. This is him
- 7:21being an absolute prick. In the past, when any member of the Simpsons
- 7:27family has behaved not despicably, but they've sort of kicked against the pricks and
- 7:32they've done so, they've been punching up them and fighting. They've been fighting
- 7:35the power. You know, if they behave badly the party, it is
- 7:39usually the party thrown by mister Burns or something like that. Well, who's
- 7:43not going to take advantage of she has the most money. Yeah, Or
- 7:46if Marge does something silly or not even silly, but you know it sort
- 7:49of behaves out a character by doing the thing with the Chanell's suit, for
- 7:54instance, it's to get him good because you know she wants to get up
- 7:58with a There's a spider on the line, Mike a phone. Can you
- 8:01see that? I can, indeed, I'm it's an actual spider. There's
- 8:03a d long see. I'm gonna have to film this on my phone because
- 8:05the camera is I'm getting a new SD card because a week moment the kids
- 8:09did, oh my god. All right, I'm filming this. You talk
- 8:13guy. Okay, Yes, this is not a lie. We're not recording
- 8:16this. We're not a video recording this episode. But I wish we had
- 8:20because, yeah, Dan is about to go full Peter Parker. Here.
- 8:24There is a genuine spider on my microphone. I'm gonna get photo. This
- 8:26a selfie. It's not a it's not a big daddy long legs. It's
- 8:30more like a baby short legs. But it's definitely of the daddy long legs
- 8:35family. And it's climbing all over Dan. I'm gonna get a stafe with
- 8:39this guy. Make me famous. Where is he? Where is he?
- 8:43There? It is spier Mike, Spider Mike climbing all over the spider Mike
- 8:50not a pig like in the Simpsons movie Crazy can't take them anything to rhyme
- 8:54with movies. I was like, what is that near my nose? Oh
- 8:56it's a spider. Oh god, yeah, that thing sometimes like, oh,
- 9:01I've got a rogue hair. That's what I thought it was in my
- 9:03line of vision. I went and I was like, that's it was not
- 9:05attached to me. It's on the microphone. It's a spade, it's moving.
- 9:09Is it a Debby long leg? I don't know. It is a
- 9:11day long leg? Is it one of those like small but really venomous ones?
- 9:15Are we getting Australia I don't think it is. I don't know,
- 9:18but anyway, it's still here. Zach, good, last, pass me
- 9:22that tissue. I'm going to oh and yeah, this is a good example
- 9:26of Dando being kind a nice guy who will not kill a spider. I
- 9:31said, hop on this tissue wrapper gently in tissue pairper. There you go.
- 9:35I'll take him to the outside. I'll be back in a moment.
- 9:37You kill the air, you feel the air? My god? Oh no,
- 9:43Dan is telling me to vamp. I'm back. I just put him
- 9:46one of the sound proof phone things on the wall. He did it in
- 9:48the big Kebley. I told you, I don't kill spiders man proof.
- 9:54It's very good to see you actually put your Buddhist theories into practice. But
- 10:01what were we talking about here? We were talking about how the Simpsons when
- 10:05they behave badly, they're usually doing it or the target of it is to
- 10:11feel accepted or something to feel accepted, or it fits the character. Yeah,
- 10:16they're not. They're never punching down. And I'm not a big fan
- 10:18of like comedy should only punch it. But she never punched down. It's
- 10:20like, I don't care if youre getting a laugh punch anyway. Man punch
- 10:24by the belt exactly, not like how nothing bunny to getting punch the balls.
- 10:28But but this way is like you just be mean. Well I mean
- 10:33other, yes, you crashed a funeral. The minute you realize is leave.
- 10:37Yeah, it's not hard, no, it just it felt weird that
- 10:41they stuck away for a while. I mean they did leave pretty quickly,
- 10:46but they did eat some food. But then it becomes the pall bearer and
- 10:48everything and then fall us. But then Bart like burries home, and I'm
- 10:52thinking, so Bart's purpose of this show now is to just be a prick
- 10:54to everybody, be an absolute little monster. When he was a little monster
- 10:58in the parts and we're like, oh yeah, little raps gallion. Yeah,
- 11:01now you're bearing your father alive. Oh okay, okay, yes,
- 11:03oh you're extorting a grieving child. Good for you. What a cower bunker.
- 11:11But also I mean to go back. Sorry, I know we're sort
- 11:16of skipping from place to place here, but like I said about the hat
- 11:18on the hat thing before the whole thing about let's name funny restaurants, I
- 11:22want to say one, how about you just show us? How about we
- 11:28just see them? Was it last episode where mister Burns went the went to
- 11:31the mall. We saw some of these shops had funny names. Crazy ets,
- 11:35phone Home exactly, didn't didn't dwell on it too much, dwell dwelled
- 11:41on it just enough. One might say, it almost feels like they're trying
- 11:43to get credit for their funny names. It goes it's not just going to
- 11:46be a blinking miss it. We're gonna have that character say it, Yeah,
- 11:50acknowledge it. How good are these names? You know? How funny
- 11:52are these Do you get it? My favorite favorite moments from the episode,
- 11:58I'll go with mine first. I liked p Dingo's face of anticipation when he's
- 12:01like, what do you think of my finger? I just saw his overall
- 12:03just appearance was pretty funny. I like Placido Domingo in this pretty much.
- 12:09He was going to take the mickey out of himself, And I'm wondering if
- 12:11that's the reason for this episode we were able to get Placid feels that way,
- 12:15doesn't it, Yeah, because I can't see any other reason for this
- 12:18thing you mentioned. You know Dan c having a lovely singing voice. This
- 12:22is a nice showcase for that, But why Opera? I think someone in
- 12:26Placido Domingo's office, Paul Evan said, Hello, Simpsons, keep going.
- 12:33That was he's a good digger, by which I mean he's digging himself into
- 12:39a whole Placido Domingo huge. His kids are a huge fan of His grandkids
- 12:43are a huge fan of. He'd love to be on. Oh, okay,
- 12:46how can we work this d thing? How can we working into it?
- 12:50And then, because I feel like the Julia's story could have really applied
- 12:52to any profession very much. It didn't have to be an opera based story.
- 12:56I know she's the tries to kill it in him by being the what
- 13:00are they called conductor? But I wrote conductor? But then Marge says,
- 13:05what they're actually starts of? M what are they called? Maestro? Yes,
- 13:09I think that's a sort of a catchull. Oh, actually no,
- 13:13it might be just a conductor. Because there was the recent film on Netflix
- 13:16called Maestro Seinfelder The Maestro. Well, that's true, and it's about the
- 13:20great Leonda Bernstein was mainly known as a conductor, but he was also a
- 13:24composer of music and a whole bunch of other stuff. So I know,
- 13:26maybe maestro just does apply to conductors. Maybe I'd love to be called the
- 13:31maestro. It's good. It's even just a good nickname. Maestro means you're
- 13:33the best. Yeah, that's what it means for me anyway. Yeah,
- 13:35I thought I calling you maestro. I thought the scene where Julia took her
- 13:39close off at the start, what was she first? I thought it was
- 13:41pretty funny time's reaction. Everyone's wearing clothes in here, except it then took
- 13:48it took a really weak, kinky chain, unpleasant term for we're just the
- 13:52whole. If you tell Marge about this, I'll say your attack me Like,
- 13:54I don't know if you want to be saying that kind of thing,
- 13:56and this particular two thousand and seven time. Yeah, it feels you wouldn't
- 14:03do this in a post me too well where you sort of cause it makes
- 14:05it almost seems like you're politically. People who are actual victims absolutely love assault,
- 14:09you know, so I think you do it now. I have not
- 14:11watched the current Netflix Sensation Netflix Front of the Pod. Uh we canceled.
- 14:16Okay, so you have not, or you would not. Apparently the big
- 14:22thing on Netflix at the moment is called Baby Reindeer, a UK stand up
- 14:28comedian slash performance artist took his mind his depths of personal trauma to tell a
- 14:35story about stalking, about sexual abuse, all this kind of stuff. Apparently
- 14:39a big hit. That's what the people are into these days. He's called
- 14:41Baby Reindeer or the Special. It's the nickname given to him by his stalker.
- 14:46Oh okay. The show is also called Baby Reindeer, and it's a
- 14:50stand up No, no, it's he's a stand up comedian, I think,
- 14:52and he's being stalked in the show. Yes, okay. And I
- 14:56think he had a one man show that was called Baby Raindeer and he's turned
- 14:58it into this drama for Netflix that's apparently very very popular. If you know
- 15:01about Baby Reindeer, I have yet to watch it. Lovely Luise watched it
- 15:05without me. Oh that could happen. No, no, that's fine.
- 15:09There's a lot of stuff that we will not watch. So do you ask
- 15:13first? Well, I think I've said this on the show on the past.
- 15:16I watched the first episode of The Bear, and I'm like, I
- 15:18can watch more of this, but I take a lu said and watching it.
- 15:20I watch the first of the show called The Bear. I think it's
- 15:22really good. I think you and I should watch it the other cool,
- 15:26so I didn't watch anymore. She, on the other hand, watch all
- 15:28the Baby Randy. It's okay by me because I was say I'll get to
- 15:33this when I get to this. She's not watching Showgun. I want to
- 15:35watch all the Showgun Shogun really good. She is not watching eight movies.
- 15:37That is good. I watched the other one last night. Yeah, escape
- 15:41from Planet. As the Apes came to they came to our planet. They
- 15:48came back in time you madiacs. I was gonna have I was gonna put
- 15:52this on Facebook Twitter. It really is like one of the best lines from
- 15:54The Simpsons. Wait a minute, Dan, delivery that whole I don't care
- 16:00away we go as long as don't send us that terrible planet of the APPEs.
- 16:03Wait a minute, statue Liberty. That was our planet. I love
- 16:07it so much, and it just this, this is over and comes down
- 16:12Barni's passed out. It's talk about that episode rather than this one. I
- 16:19also didn't mind Homer's explanation of I can only sing love songs when thinking of
- 16:23you, so they're technically our groupies. I like him when Home is actually
- 16:27able to talk his way out of something because he's not doing anything technically wrong
- 16:33here. No, that's correct. I mean he wouldn't like it. He's
- 16:36reveling the attention. Yeah, a bit too much, too much, Yeah,
- 16:38especially in front of Marge. But anyway, yeah, I didn't mind
- 16:41that. Did you have any moments that you enjoyed? I like, I
- 16:44like, just call me Pete Dingo, and I thought said Placido Domingo.
- 16:48Look, I may be mispronouncing this this great singer's name, but I like
- 16:52the way he conducted himself. And I did like at the end when Chief
- 16:56Wigan was like t shirt that one get away Hagleyachi or too bad madam?
- 17:03Butterface what I had? Two? I've been in that situation. Did no
- 17:10one get these great singers? I actually don't mind when he says take the
- 17:14shot they are firing, and the says one cop. He just puts his
- 17:15arm with a hand gun over. Next question, you there eating the paste
- 17:22all right, Trivia? My first question for you is what food does Homer
- 17:27take one last off before they leave the funeral? Oh? Does he actually
- 17:32name it? Yeah? Just one more and then they leave and then he
- 17:34gets asked for being the pall bearer. It's a minikeiche, a mini caiche.
- 17:38Okay, they're my favorite party food. Mini caiches. I don't necessarily,
- 17:42I don't think i've I can't recall the last one. I had a
- 17:45big slice of a caiche, but manikishas that is fit in your mouth and
- 17:48the delicious. You're not wrong. When's the last time you were at an
- 17:53event that had all rbs or finger food? U would have been a wedding
- 18:00about a month ago, okay, but they had finger food finger food wedding.
- 18:03It wasn't like a sit down wedding. Okay. I don't know if
- 18:07you've been to any events recently where it's finger food. But I'm going to
- 18:11need both hands for this ship. Like it's like say a little box of
- 18:14fish and chips or something with like a fish nugget three chips. It's like,
- 18:18I'm going to need both hands for this ship. Yeah. I like,
- 18:22just it has to be on a stick, a stick on a stick
- 18:25or can fit in my mouth. Yeah. Yeah. They start bringing around
- 18:27mini sliders like it's it's not quite a burger, but this need two hands
- 18:33there, It's like it's weird. Yeah, yeah, I can't hold it
- 18:36between two fingers. I have to hold it between yeah, and you feel
- 18:38like the claw. Yeah, and I'm going to need napkins for this ship.
- 18:44When you say the claw, what's your instant thought process? What do
- 18:47you think of when you hit Okay? Now, so I know that you're
- 18:48probably thinking of lie a lie. Yeah, yeah, you're thinking it is
- 18:52one of the scenes that I remember. It's some one of my favorite Jim
- 18:57Carry movies. It's fine, it's pretty good. It's sort of forgotten,
- 19:00but I've always loved it. Yeah, it's one of his biggest hits though
- 19:02apparently. I mean it feels like, oh, this is like Jim Carrey
- 19:06not at the peak of his powers, but like people went just to see
- 19:08the Blooper real. Yeah, people, Jim just gonna go. I always
- 19:14felt so bad for Carry. Was when he was trying to do the Claw,
- 19:18the Claw losing one hand. Yeah, sorry, Like, oh man,
- 19:22you're trying so hard. Yeah, but he played that role really well.
- 19:26He did. Yeah. When I think of the Claw, this is
- 19:29the generation gap between Dan and I. There was a car There's also actually
- 19:33pretty racist in hand tight on Get Smart. Did you ever see this?
- 19:37There was like he was an Asian crime crime boss and called the claw.
- 19:44Was he called the craw? But it was not the craw, the craw?
- 19:47I said, that ship. This is this is how we rolled back
- 19:49in the seventies. Also, I'm pretty sure the guy playing the claw was
- 19:53not Asian. Then ask that question because he said it was racist. I
- 19:56was like, did they call him the craw instead? Yeah? And well
- 19:59they that was the thing. And you know, you'd have kids around the
- 20:00school yard go, not that kraw, that claw. Holy shit. I
- 20:06wonder why the world's in the state because we're running folks all the time.
- 20:11Time to be allowed and racist. Anyway, your first question, my first
- 20:15question to you is we talked about the kid getting extorted for ten bucks every
- 20:19month. What was the kid's name? Donnie? It was Donnie Donnie.
- 20:23Yeah, don't do what Donnie don't does? Who uses their opera glasses with
- 20:26thermal vision? Oh? Another d name? She maybe have to see the
- 20:33wizard. Oh Dorothy Dorothy. Hey, thanks for that man. And she
- 20:38was voiced clearly by Maggie Roswald Roswell. Yeah, we're gonna say Maggie on
- 20:44it. That's not the name memory Blake for a second. It's good that
- 20:48we were here to help each other though, because I mean, you can't
- 20:51see this, but this is me in the watergar help me, help me,
- 20:53and Dano threw me a lifeguard, threw me the life what do you
- 20:56call those things? The life ring thing, the doughnut. Yeah. And
- 21:00then as I was he matally called a life saver, the maybe a little
- 21:03sweet treats will be But as I was pulling him in, I then fell
- 21:07in and then he had to put me out. Mutually assured salvation as opposed
- 21:11to distraction. It's great. What was Moe's snack at the opera? Lamb
- 21:17chop? It was a lamb chop wrapped in file correct, Hey, was
- 21:18I meant to Did you ask me a question? No, I asked you
- 21:22Dorothy one. That's right. Yeah, and that's my turn. Okay,
- 21:25yeah, you did it right. You didn't do anything wrong. But what
- 21:27did my whole live to hear that? My final question is also food based.
- 21:32What does Marge go to cook or go to make before she text closed
- 21:37off checks mix pie? What is this? That's a good question because yesterday
- 21:41we recorded an episode of Speaking of the Hill, which it didn't see center
- 21:45around freeto pie, but we did a bit of a deep dive into Freedi
- 21:48Pie to find out what it was like. It was basically Nacho's as a
- 21:52pie. What is checks mix made of? Check Chex mixes like a sweet
- 21:56cereals cereals, Yeah, chips have breadsticks, pretzels, nuts or baked sof
- 22:00the mix, you know those things. So it's a pie. That's just
- 22:03basically what you put it in a crust and then you probably pull like some
- 22:07molten chocolate apple. So it's just like that basically. You can you see
- 22:10it gives a look at that? So yeah, oh damn, that looks
- 22:12Notice it's just yeah, that stuff in pie. I can get off all
- 22:17on that action. I may ask you one more question. This is only
- 22:21this doesn't require your knowledge of the episode. Got a little broader pleas you
- 22:26do. Domingo is one of the three tenors as mentioned in this episode.
- 22:29Can you name the other two? No idea, I got him now that
- 22:33guy. They are Luciano Pavarotti and Roddy one of them. Yeah, all
- 22:48right, well now it is time for oh yeah, look I want This
- 22:53episode has not been great. Well, actually no, this episode of four
- 22:56Thingscan has been great. This episode since it's not great, but even the

- 24:56so it's probably some that sounds kind of I remember we used to call Gerard
- 25:00Garroid Garode, we used to call him giroid. We turned you into video

- 25:32Breda breaded chicken system, all right. The original edit of The Homer of
- 25:41Seville was I believe in December. No, it was in September, September
- 25:47thirtieth, two thousand and seven. It was written by the Lovely Lady Caroline
- 25:49Emine and directed by Mike Frank Polsino, the Chopboy Gate, the Walls Wall
- 25:56Street Journal is better than ever. I don't know, it's something about that
- 26:00gag just sort of sat wrong with me. It felt too you like the
- 26:03Wall Street Journal. No, No, it just felt like Inside Baseball,
- 26:06because I mean, I'm pretty sure that Wall Street Journals is part of Murdoch's
- 26:10publishing empire. No, but he's he's basically saying that it's not Oh yeah,
- 26:15but to me trying to say that he shouldn't be saying that it's not
- 26:18that. Actually, it just feels like it feels like, as we said
- 26:22yesterday doing one of the other podcasts, it was kind of like a like
- 26:26Leo pointing. You'd say to his next someone, you'd say to the person
- 26:32next one the I think they have another shadowed mood. How can they say
- 26:36that? Yeah, I guess I don't know. I think I think this
- 26:40episode just put me in a bit. I think I'm just taking shots at
- 26:44this episode for no reason. The cash gag was the one that had before
- 26:47from Home a Razzi, the really long evolution one which means we were short
- 26:49on time. But instead of Homer homage saying something like what took you so
- 26:53long? Ex elements Do you get the milk? Did you bring the milk?
- 26:56Yeah, which I think doesn't work as well as what took you so
- 26:59long? Or did you bring your milk? I don't know. But the
- 27:02episode kicks off at the church. I didn't mind the sign here the real
- 27:06American Jesus, the real American idol. And it's over. So they all
- 27:10rush out of the car park. I wants to be the first one out.
- 27:12He was so bored of church, and he did a whole book of
- 27:15finder words. I and A were their words. Margin reads out the names
- 27:19of the store. So we had gridlot on the roof. Thank god,
- 27:22it's fried eggs, luft Waffles, Bodacious Fratatas, buffet, the Hunger Slave,
- 27:26which I thought was pretty good. That's not bad. I also like
- 27:29botacious forra tatas. And Homer wanted to say one and he just gets Denny's.
- 27:33Then everywhere has a really long line there to decide. Look, we're
- 27:36going to go home and cook, because you know, Marge's the cook.
- 27:37She cooks all the food for us, and she says she doesn't want to
- 27:41cook. She refuses, and they see this starving teachers catering, taking food
- 27:44into somewhere. So Marge breaks into this house. Turns out it's a funeral
- 27:48though, and as we're saying, you think you'd probably leave, just put
- 27:53on your sad faces, you would leave. I'm trying to workshop brainstorm ways
- 28:02in which they could make the mistake, like it's one of those fancy open
- 28:06houses. And the whole point of this was to have have Homer get a
- 28:08saw back it was a long wind away from home and hurt his back.
- 28:12Yeah, a whole bunch of stuff happens, and Homer hurts his back,
- 28:17and then the story and then the story begins. And we've had plenty since
- 28:19the dawn of time of the Simpsons, they've had this where a bunch of
- 28:22stuff happens, but usually a bunch of stuff happening is funny. Yeah,
- 28:25and this was not. What's funny. It's when you see Bart do the
- 28:30thing to Donnie. It put me in a bad mood. It really takes
- 28:33you out of watching the show, sort of takes you out of the moment.
- 28:36Don't you think you think that's so horrible? Yeah, I think the
- 28:41fact that there's oh, you realize you've crashed a few and I was like,
- 28:45I don't know, guys, think you might have you know, stepped
- 28:47in the big pilot shit here. Yeah, something needs to happen. They
- 28:52should have had the pall Bearer thing happened like straight away, would not have
- 28:53them sort of take advantage of the food, have them try to leave and
- 28:56then the family just needs them there for a reason. Yeah, exactly,
- 29:00they can't leave it. But the minute starts extorting money from the kid,
- 29:03it's like, sorry, I missed my pop pop. I miss him too.
- 29:10What's your name? Donnie? Your Donnie pop up said that after he
- 29:15died, you should give me ten bucks a week starting now. Okay,
- 29:22listen, I'm out of town next week. So Homer thought she said.
- 29:27Polar Bear, which is why agrees to be a Paul Bearer, falls into
- 29:30the open grave and Bart decides to just bury him because why not? Because
- 29:34why not? And that's the first act of this episode done. I got
- 29:41sort of a little bit of a chuckle out of what if the Homer says
- 29:44something, Well, the tragedy has a stalked this family never sees because her
- 29:47brother rolled his ankle. Let's just wake up be a Paul Bearer. Yeah,
- 29:49I went at the hospital. Homer has a backsprain and he ingested a
- 29:52lot of grave dirt. He lays him down and it only take a minute
- 29:56because a thousand dollars. I always enjoy those on the game because the house
- 30:00system is just a lot of rat But man, it's very expansive. You've
- 30:03experienced, I mean you've had you've had kids to take care of, but
- 30:07I mean primarily with the lovely Jet. Yeah, we've spent less on Jet
- 30:11in the last twelve months, so basically I've taken Jet to this Michael Ball
- 30:15vet, the guy I mentioned all the time, Michael Bell. We like
- 30:17this guy. Corus me ten dollars every month to get Jet sorted out,
- 30:19gets tablets, blah blah blah. Those tablets are get one hundred for ten
- 30:22dollars. Those tablets at the vet. You get ten tablets for ninety dollars.
- 30:27To use a phrase that's being banned, the math ain't mathing the exact
- 30:30same tablets. Going on the exact same tablets. You should take only a
- 30:34minute and cost about one thousand dollars. No, it doesn't sound like Homer's
- 30:40usual annoyed grunt. Go oh fascinating. When Homer is on his back.
- 30:48His stomach loud is perfectly under his diaphragm, giving him a powerful singing voice.
- 30:52Is that a real thing? It is? Tenor Andrea Pacelley recorded an
- 30:56entire song on his back. We discussing this, I believe, off the
- 31:00air before we started recording. That actually was something that Butchali did. We
- 31:03wanted to find out this was bullshit or not. So Lisa claims that the
- 31:06Tender and Andrea Chlli recorded an entire song in his back. But Clli apparently
- 31:11did record one track on his Amoure album on his back and demonstrated this technique
- 31:15on an episode of American Idol. Apparently it is a thing, But learning
- 31:21to paint whilst laying you back apparently not. Spoiler Yeah right, So the
- 31:26revealed here that he is a good singer. Everyone loves the singing. Apparently
- 31:30everyone loves the singing because they devote a whole lot of the episode to it.
- 31:33The next few minutes, at least, Bed goes up, Bed goes
- 31:34down, his voice changes, and Hibbitt then sings along with him during surgery.
- 31:40But I did mind burd shopping in the morgue for parts. I thought
- 31:41that was fine. It's good. It's that's a good idea. That's a
- 31:45good idea. Burns buys the motorcyclist mustache and things like that. And your
- 31:51money, that all the money you contributed to the anti hammet laws are starting
- 31:53to payoff because young people are his future. Then they hear Homer and they
- 31:57head to the Betty and Herbert Weinstein Winstein, whatever's pavilion? Do are these
- 32:01people? I was, I did my research, he Weinstein, you go.
- 32:09I looked on I did my research. We Jamaine looked on Wikipedia,
- 32:13and they didn't mention it. So I don't know. I'm just looking up
- 32:15here, Herbert Weins. It's definitely be a true chronic. The book opens
- 32:17with the Herbert Weinstein murder case. Okay, so let's look up Herbert Weinstein.
- 32:22The brain on the stand, mister Weinstein cyst So, mister winsteinsists.
- 32:27When historians of the future tried to identify the moment that neuroscience began to transform
- 32:30the American legal system, they may point to a little noticed case from the
- 32:34early nineteen nineties. The case involved Herbert Weinstein, a sixty five year old
- 32:38ad executive. He was charged with strangling his wife, Barbara to death.
- 32:42And then, in an effort to make the murder look like a suicide,
- 32:45throwing her body at the window of their twelfth floor apartment on East seventy second
- 32:49Street in Manhattan. Before the trial began, Weinstein's lawyer suggested that his clients
- 32:52should not be held responsible for his actions because of mental defect, namely an
- 32:55abnormal cyst nestled in his erachnoid membrane, which surrounds the brain like a by
- 33:00the website claiming insanity basically to get him off. Yes, that's where it
- 33:02began. Finally, how they talk about the spider tumor and we just had
- 33:07a spider on the on the microphone. We did not plan that. It
- 33:10was scary times. It was the scary time. Doesn't burns, say Betty,
- 33:15and he does, say Betty. I said not, Barbara. Yeah,
- 33:16so Betty and Betty Weinstein. LO'SOK at Bettie. I was just so
- 33:20confused. I'm really confused. Fifteen Betty Winstein's stock photos and high rais pictures.
- 33:24Whatever, Betty, We're starting getting way too much time to hop it,
- 33:28Betty. Once, look, we had a fun true crime detour.
- 33:32Yeah, for a minute, learning about herd Weinstein. Yeah, and His
- 33:36and His Spider Brain. Betty offered us so much if true crime is apparently
- 33:39a bit of a cash cow, if you'd like us to do a true
- 33:42crime podcast as part of the four Finger Discant their work experience. Let us
- 33:45know, I want to do a true crime podcast. But it's who shot
- 33:47mister Burns and we create a new It's not Maggie, it's actually somebody else.
- 33:52The listeners have to try and guess who it is. Oh, okay,
- 33:53then we sort of manufacture clues and stuff like that, right, and
- 33:57we'll do it in the vein of like cereal. Yes, going to be
- 34:00actually somebody different. Yeah. Wow, it's full of interesting ideas but not
- 34:08but yeah, so they're singing along, everyone's having a great time. Burns
- 34:10offers him a role, the lead role in is It lab? Ahem,
- 34:15Yeah, you've just reminded me of one of my It's a good bit from
- 34:22the movie Trading Places, which I'm assuming you have seen, where Dan Aykroyd's
- 34:28his blue blood socialize type has been taken into He's been framed for drug dealing,
- 34:34gone to the worst police precinct in Philadelphia. Frank Oz is the cop.
- 34:38Is he who busts, who's admitting him going through his pockets two tickets
- 34:45to the opera. Beau him and Dan Loom it's an opera. Frank Oz
- 34:53just gives the bet it's an opera. I remember trading places for Jimmy.
- 35:01I was like, I told that at a pivotal time in my sort of
- 35:04like you know, pubescent development, like hot. I remember seeing that hiring
- 35:07not expecting that, you know, I just if you think you go to
- 35:10get you know, sometimes with Dan and Eddie, I was just like,
- 35:14you know, twelve thirty, I was like, oh ship hot, damn
- 35:19looking good, Billy Ray feeling good. Lewis trade places. We should do
- 35:23it on the movie. Let's do it. Yeah, but I did.
- 35:27I didn't mind. Here. So he's performing at what looks like sit in
- 35:29the opera house. Yes, Now, was this the hole that they built
- 35:34with the like a while ago? No? No, no, what was
- 35:37it next? Because it was next to something? What was it? What
- 35:39there was the building that was next to because you know, we should but
- 35:42didn't they build something for an opera? And they and they did the syfy
- 35:45and they said we've already had the good bit and that we're all going to
- 35:46leave, and they had no idea what to do with it, and they
- 35:49turned it into the prison. Prison turned into the prison. Yeah, I
- 35:52don't know. I remember it's the same building or not, but canon anymore,
- 35:54I think that. I think it just comes. I knew what he's
- 35:57just out the window. The opera begins. Lenny and car there watching from
- 36:00terrible seas. Apparently that's a Citizen King reference. I don't. I've never
- 36:04seen it. Citizen Kane. Can you believe it? I can believe it.
- 36:07I mean not because of you, but because you know. It's just
- 36:09I mean, it's more movie that gets name checked these days. Castle blank
- 36:14is the long one. No, I don't think Citizen Kane is three hours,
- 36:17and it's probably closer to two. Okay, Castle Blankers. I mean
- 36:21here's the thing about Castle Blanker as well. You shouldn't have got missed that
- 36:29it's gonna be a stuffy your classic class to make a moves. It's just
- 36:31a good it's just a good melodrama. Yeah, I mean, Catalina is
- 36:36enjoyable at any age. Great movie, fantastic love Castle. I was Gone
- 36:40with the Wind. That's really long. It's Gone with the Wind is very
- 36:43like that's the what I'm thinking of that, I know it's one of the
- 36:44classics. Oh, you're going on the winds something like three and a bit
- 36:47hours. It's like the Avengers. I don't give a damn, right,
- 36:51Frankly, Mada, I don't give a fuck. Yeah, you say fuck,
- 36:55but I just I just don't know that was the equivalent of funk when
- 36:58that film was made, though, Right, but I'm pretty sure that people
- 37:00back in the now Clark Gable you you can't you? Oh my hut the
- 37:06vapors. I didn't mind though, when he were singing that he pushes the
- 37:10Mimi out of the bed and he's now a star, an opera star.
- 37:16No, we come up from commercial to the family. We're all proud of
- 37:20him. He says. This is going to make up for me being drunk
- 37:22at the family. Our father daughter dance. I can't change your future because
- 37:25you know he's a bad father. Well, that person, I think is
- 37:29Next week we get a little montage here of them hanging up the Homer banner
- 37:32and they make it so down and this elephant bit. I was like,
- 37:37that was such a filler. Yeah, what's the point of it? Are
- 37:39we pulling the whole cast No, it's one person. One person. That's
- 37:45it. That's it. That's okay. Having said that, if that gag
- 37:53had been in a Golden Age episode, I mean, it's not necessarily obvious
- 37:59is a Golden Age gag? But is this something you forgive if it was
- 38:02in a better episode? Man, I don't think so, because I'm usually
- 38:06the one that's trying to find the positives. I don't what it was.
- 38:07It was just when he goes just one person and it went for like fifteen
- 38:10seconds. This this is old on nothing, even with the extended couch gag.
- 38:16Yeah, it felt like there was a lot of padding and a lot
- 38:19of streut. Three to five minutes of just nothing in this episode, when
- 38:23you can include the couch gag and the elephant scene and things like that.
- 38:27Singing in the hospital, seeing the hospital was just there was a lot of
- 38:29it. Yeah, I was now singing at the hockey breaks the glass and
- 38:31they break out the penalty box. Now, is that because they had fire
- 38:36on their feet when they flew off? Was they meant to be a reference
- 38:37to, Like, I didn't say that. So when they when they said
- 38:40we're free and they break out the penalty box and there's fire on their feet.
- 38:44I don't know. I don't know. Maybe they're just meant to be
- 38:45like demonic Placido Domingo. Is his name, Domingo Domingo. I think I
- 38:52think it might be placid Pete didn't go Yeah, why not? He likes
- 38:54it. I just really enjoyed when he does his He he's a note.
- 39:00He's like waiting for Homer's praise, and Homer doesn't give it to him,
- 39:02of course, But I just I thought he was a good sport. I
- 39:06know this predates crazy stupid love, which we talked about on the movie Guys,
- 39:09But I was expecting pe Dingo to sort of do a Ryan Gosling in
- 39:14the changing room kind of thing where he just sort of struts aroundside confident in
- 39:16masculinity, doesn't even need a towel. Yeah, and that home is a
- 39:20little bit intimidated by it. Eh missed opportunity, perhaps nice, said Homer.
- 39:25That was a hot one. Well, praise from Placy Doldmingo. Just
- 39:31call me pe Dingle. Hey, I'll think about it. You know,
- 39:37Homer, there is one thing about opera that has always bugged me. Everyone
- 39:40sings instead of talking. But you made me believe I was in a magical
- 39:46world. We're singing East talking danks. You know about three tenors. You're
- 39:52my second favorite. Yeah wait, they forgot about that other guy? Sorry
- 39:57your third. Waitma, before you go, there's a new old type.
- 40:01Been working on telling me what you think? Hmm, what if you give
- 40:15it a little more disflavor like the Cape Reaching for the starts kid now out
- 40:28for dinner for Marge with Marge for the anniversary and Lennie and Carlberz the Entourage.
- 40:34She asked him to dressed in Entourage style as well. I mean,
- 40:37this was one of the biggest shows in the world at the time, so
- 40:39I can understand why this would have This would have been on the ads for
- 40:43sure, because oh yeah, everyone was talking about Entourage that point. What's
- 40:46his name that Jeremy Piven, Harry Gold. Yeah, but Jeremy Piven played
- 40:50the role like he was so perfectly suited for that role. He really was
- 40:52really star making that. I mean Pivet had been maybe supporting parts. Yeah,
- 40:57he was that guy. Yeah, he's good friend the John k X
- 41:00and I think it appeared in a lot of Cusax movies, but I had
- 41:02a few, if not starring, I think he's the star of Movilled PCU,
- 41:07which is apparently a bit of a cult classic now, like a sort
- 41:10of mid nineties animal house style college comedy and a few other things. But
- 41:15yeah, he I think he recognized, oh, this is an opportunity for
- 41:19me to really go somewhere. Brought himself some new hair because he had a
- 41:22very obvious receiving hairline before that doesn't entourage worked out a little bit. He's
- 41:27like, yeah, I'm going for it, and he really went for it.
- 41:29But I think he sort of doug his own grave in away because now
- 41:31he's just Ari Gold. Yeah. Yeah, And I think a lot of
- 41:34people found it maybe difficult to separate the character from the actor. It reminds
- 41:39me of kind of Tony Starkish, just without the intelligence when it comes to
- 41:44science and things like that, just that arrogance but reject shop Tony Stark.
- 41:49Yeah perhaps, Yeah, it's like we couldn't afford our DJ. Jeremy Pivens
- 41:53is doing a pretty good job. But he's about twenty thirty percent Laura in
- 41:58the charisma scale. He'd be like the TV TV I man very much.
- 42:02So, yeah, look all you respect to Jeremy Piven, who I think
- 42:05is a fine actor. Did a fantastic job on a Rush. Yeah yeah,
- 42:08I mean that show was just made. That show was famous because of
- 42:12him. I reckon. I mean he had the main stars, but like
- 42:15he he made the show. Oh yeah, very much. For a while
- 42:17there, it was almost like every team wanted to be Ari Gold. They
- 42:22wanted to live Vicarasy through. I'm going to be a successful manager and an
- 42:24agent. I'm going to be a Wall Street ball And then the Wolf of
- 42:28Wall Street came in and I was like, that's going to be me,
- 42:30and they had their posters on the wall. There was a guy at our
- 42:31old workplace who had the poster of the guy from Wolf of Wall Street on
- 42:36his wall in his office, and I was like, dude, dude,
- 42:37what like he had the poster of Leo was Georgia Yeah yeah, oh okay,
- 42:42yeah, but I'm like still with like quotes underneath it. And I
- 42:44was like, oh no, And was this person he was like twenty two
- 42:49twenty three Okay, So they were a bit naive. And I was about
- 42:52to say, are they smart enough to sort of ironically just say he was
- 42:53friends with the right people and he got himself an office. I think you
- 42:57know what you're talking about. Next, of all times, marks off good
- 43:02idea, have ned Yes, we never turn you to the home clip.
- 43:10You don't want to put a clip. I want you to stop flirting with
- 43:15women, No problem, sir. May I say I thoroughly enjoyed your performance,
- 43:21And may I say that I'm enjoying the calm waters of your deep blue
- 43:24eyes. Oh well, what that's how guys talk. You are out of
- 43:35control the late nights, the evening, You've actually going your cape. M
- 43:42I miss her a long time. I miss you, need you help,
- 43:50BA want us to take Marge shopping. You guys, go on, We're
- 43:53gonna walk home, great college walk. It's the best. I really want
- 44:00to hook up with Homer. Now we both know that ain't gonna happen.
- 44:04But I'm right here. The Limo rock and just sort of went. I'm
- 44:09not too sure about that, but they get rescued, as I said,
- 44:12from the crazy fans and us. Julia. They invited her in for coffee,
- 44:15and she suggests that she gets hired as the president of Harmer's fan club
- 44:19because she can keep the crazies and check Marge gree She it's a good idea.
- 44:22I did like home as sort of general chit chat. You see a
- 44:24part where our foot lines and I say, oh, spaghetti's and no one
- 44:27really knew, and then she just takes her clothes off and threatens that,
- 44:30you know, if you do say anything, I will cry raping basically,
- 44:34and it's like I wouldn't be using this anymore. But you know, they
- 44:39this was two thousand and seven, so everyone's wearing the clothes in here.
- 44:44I like that. We come back and Julie's doing really well at her job,
- 44:46taking all the bookings and whatnot, and Marge is just loving her.
- 44:50There give me a little bit of montage of her trying to seduce Homer at
- 44:53work, actually putting his hand on her breast and then wearing seductive leather cl
- 45:00bending over in front of him. Yeah, here's the thing. You've got
- 45:02my Rudolph, very very funny person, very very talented comedian. Not used
- 45:07a whole lot in this episode. No, no, I mean there's not
- 45:09a whole lot of dialogue. You've got a lot, You've got a fair
- 45:12bit of Juelia, but a lot of it is silent. A lot of
- 45:14it's visual humor, is a lot of it's visual humor, which I'm assuming
- 45:16that my root Off didn't have a lot to do with that. She wasn't
- 45:22like Andy Serkistar bend over here, look up a Dan. That's it,
- 45:28look up a Dan. What am I saying? That you have wasted a
- 45:30perfect good ma rooto Off here as get lost you waste for a mustaches coming
- 45:34up as well? I thought that was a good payout for Flanders. Not
- 45:36very mean, but he basically she's in bed with pretending to be Marge at
- 45:42the hair on where Marge was I don't know, but he you know,
- 45:45she agrees, Okay, I'm never gonna get you. Yeah, you're never
- 45:47gonna have the men that you're the only man you'll ever love. So he
- 45:50as so then to hire the replacement and make sure she's not crazy like you.
- 45:52Then he finds a cobra in his cereal, which I've read two things,
- 45:55so apparently the reference to the Jungle Book. Apparently he bangs the cobra
- 46:00get something and holds it up. Yeah, I've never seen the Jungle Book
- 46:02the original animated? What ar Okay? One of my favorites get Bare Necessities
- 46:07with one of my favorite songs. Everyone knows the song Bare necessity. Yeah,
- 46:08No, I love the Jungle Book. Kids love Jungle Book for a
- 46:10while as well. Yeah, do they like the live action? Live action?
- 46:15Scary for him? It's a bit scary yeah, wa too scary because
- 46:17it's watch his name Midris Elba as shit can't. Yeah, fantastic, really
- 46:22good performance. Think about those live action movies is though that the animals can't
- 46:28emote because they're animals. So when it's animated, you can have Faster looking
- 46:31scared as he's being thrown off a cliff. When are you watching the live
- 46:36action linking? It's just a line going, brother, help me. It's
- 46:39like it's just his mouth. Movie. There's no emotion on the face.
- 46:42It's just fucking stupid. Are the never releasing a prequel? Yeah? I
- 46:45have not seen the quote unquote live action Lion King. Oh don't just don't
- 46:51no, oh, and don't. I've got less desire to see ma Faster.
- 46:53Don't go see the Fast film people, because they need to learn that
- 46:58we don't want these anymore. It's the damn shame it's been made by a
- 47:00filmmaker. I really like Barry Jenkins, who's supposed to get in the bag
- 47:04for this one, but I feel like that the box office for these films
- 47:07doesn't necessarily come from want demand. It comes from intrigue. People go,
- 47:12I just want to see what the Lion king. People want to go see
- 47:15what it looks like, and everyone will take going with that ship that point.
- 47:17But because the box office is big, they go bigs. Well.
- 47:20I think people are cluing in because I don't know how well did the live
- 47:22action Milan do? How well did the live action Little Mermaid do? Didn't
- 47:27know there was live action Milan? Wow? We okay, I don't know.
- 47:30It's almost like we're going, Oh, you guys don't want Star Wars
- 47:34series every single month? You guys want to. It's almost like scarcity increases
- 47:40demand. Oh, saturation isn't good. It's like all the lessons of economics
- 47:45that we learn over the twentieth century just don't apply in the twenty first century.
- 47:50What's going on? Yeah, meanwhile, we should only do like one
- 47:53podcast a month exactly. Yeah, we're killing the matt but still get all
- 47:59the money. Oh woo ooo ooo ooo ooo oooooo stoo stoo stoo stoopid Flanders.
- 48:13Why the crescendo, My dear old friend, good like you waste of
- 48:16a mustache. Ly and ugly retrospect now pretty mean unnecessary. A good burn
- 48:23never goes out of style. Yeah, Wigiam then says they've got the opera
- 48:27house in full lockdown to pre crash a shandily. They're ready for Homer to
- 48:30attempt for them to attempt to murder Homer. Now the performance is going on.
- 48:35Home is doing a great job, but Marge can't enjoy it. She's
- 48:36too scared. Lisa sees nothing suspicious except she can hear someone loudly unwrapping candy,
- 48:40which is made with his lamb chopping. One thing that I cannot cannot
- 48:45stand is people opening up ship at the movies. When they take forever to
- 48:49open it up. You think either I know you think you're trying to be
- 48:53quiet, but you're taking a long time and making more noise. Just get
- 48:58it done. That was that was not static. The thing, by the
- 49:00way, that was me imitating me opening a chip. It's a night screening
- 49:04of Kingdom of the Pla and then they reach into the packet really slowly.
- 49:07I'm like, just fucking reach in and get it out. It's the one
- 49:10thing I feel bad about when I get snacks at the movies because I don't
- 49:14like popcorn at the movies. You've said this, I prefer potato chips.
- 49:17But opening a bag and then crunge potato chips, am I ruining everybody's moving
- 49:22experience? You are, am I disrupting the screening of Abigail the Child Vampire
- 49:28spoiler. But I heard it was an okay film. It's fine, it's
- 49:32gonna be on v ID like tomorrow. Oh, okay, fair enough.
- 49:37But then notices Julia is the maestro Wigam tries to take her out, but
- 49:40she makes the music get play louder. He falls down Margin, she shoots
- 49:45the dart, Margin jumps in front of her. How she got down that
- 49:47far so quickly, I don't know, but she holds the instrument in front
- 49:50of her. French horn, frenchorn goes through. The French schorn comes back
- 49:52out and hits Julia, and then they take the shot. The snipers they
- 49:55all miss. I didn't mind. The guy just reaching over the top with
- 49:59his gun and the Shandeley falls on top of her, which apparently the supper
- 50:02bullets stopped her heart long enough for the chandily to squeezed the poison out or
- 50:07something that was what they that's why she's alivesting. I'm sorry you got hurt,
- 50:10but you learned an important lesson. No one comes between me and my
- 50:15homide. I'll get you for this march if it's the last thing I do.
- 50:20Oh, and I scheduled the cable guy to come on Wednesday between ten
- 50:22and two. Oh, but Wednesday's not good for me. I know,
- 50:25Marge, I know, let's go Hagleacchi or should I say Madam butterface?
- 50:39But I had too. He retires from opera Why, I don't know.
- 50:43He's really good, he's obviously getting paid for it. Why he would retired
- 50:45doesn't make sense. The murderers now gone, Yeah, I mean just a
- 50:50lines. Oh, the groupies I can't handle it or something like that.
- 50:54Yeah, he's gonna do something much more. Do you think that's bit,
- 50:57something much more fun to do on his back And it's painting there about Adam?
- 51:02Iought was, Oh, it's not Michael Angel's David. That's a sculpture
- 51:05of course. Yeah. Is it the creation of birth of Adam's creation of
- 51:08Adam? I think so? Yeah? On the roof? Is that a
- 51:10real thing? No? And that's the end of the episode. So definitely
- 51:14a weaker episode of The Simpsons. I've been told they do get better as
- 51:20the season goes on. I feel like last season started stronger and sort of
- 51:23way off of it, yeah, type of. I feel like this one
- 51:27hopefully is shit at the start and gets better hope. So yes, that
- 51:30would that would be good. Yeah. Look, I must admit talking about
- 51:32this episode with you, your unfailing positivity and general upsided this there are some
- 51:38little bits of gold dust in there. What do we learn? What did
- 51:44you learn from the episode of the Davis? Oh? Well, I let
- 51:46who Herbert Weinstein was. I learned that there's a difference between Barbara and Betty.
- 51:51There is, Yeah, the difference I don't know, but there is
- 51:53a difference, but there's certainly a difference. Forward your names will be new
- 51:59Name Ampionship. It's round two for season nineteen. The current leader Bond stands
- 52:02at this in first position. We have Adam Moorehouse on three points, Phil
- 52:07Hawkins on two, and Matt Collins on one. Take it away being awfully
- 52:09familiar with Philip J. Hawkins. Just film now is it just Phil Hawkins?
- 52:14Not even Philip's just Phil Hawkins? Ok? How about your way?
- 52:16Eyah? One point. One point one point goes to barre prone. That
- 52:23would be Philip J. Hawkins. Nice one, Phil. He's only to
- 52:28be called Philip Jay Hawkins when he's in the lead. So now he's one
- 52:31point puts him equal first with Adam Wolhouse at the moment, So unless he's
- 52:36first, he can't be Philip j. It's just Phil Hawkins. He wined
- 52:38at Philip Jame. If he goes Philip j when he's winning. Two points
- 52:43two points goes to the bedding singer. That is that's a good title,
- 52:47World done. That's Heath Appleby, first time on the Liddle board this season.
- 52:51So if Heath Appleby is now on two points as well, Hey Dan,
- 52:53no, how do you like that? Appleby? Not bad? Okay?
- 52:57Three points goes too fat Man of the Opera. And this was on
- 53:01twice, it was indeed, but who got there first? It would be
- 53:05so Adam Wilhouse did a second, Clever Kyle. Clever Kyle got in first.
- 53:10So unfortunately, Adam, you did copy somebody else's name, and you
- 53:13did the second. So let's not say you copy. Let's let's just say
- 53:16the great minds think a lot exactly. Yeah, so clever Carle is now
- 53:20on three points, which means we have a three way type of first position
- 53:22so far Adam Woolhouse, Philip Jay Hawkins and Clever Cayle muldoon. Oh see
- 53:28the start of a race like this anybody unless it's and then verious, it's
- 53:32going to be Philip j. I'll give you a bit of a head start.
- 53:37Yeah, looks very confident. It's like sitting back there is the tortoise
- 53:40in the hair, and the hair just sort of like sits back at the
- 53:43star. Catch up that totters a bit later on you're sitting here the eat
- 53:45this slams the teep in. All right, so yeah, and second position
- 53:51heat that will be on two. Ad mccollins. No heat, that will
- 53:53be on two mc collins on one point. All right, this time for
- 53:57some mail bad mail bag. First question Heath appleby Well Andrew JP commented on
- 54:07it. He would have been he was at the first one. Heath says,
- 54:09I've recently watched both the Bob Marley and the Amy Winehouse movies and enjoy
- 54:14both. What are your favorite music bier picks from the plethora released in the
- 54:16last few years. Gosh, I remember watching one about Bob Dylan many years
- 54:21ago. Think I'm not there, Yes, with multiple versions of Bob Dylan
- 54:24because Bob Dylan, Yeah, changed supersonicad Bobby style. Yes he did.
- 54:30Apparently there's a like a legit biopic of Bob Dylan currently being filmed with Timothy
- 54:36Challamaye as Dylan. What about who's the voice of Bob Dylan on the on
- 54:40King of the Hill? Maybe he's looking of the Hill, Bob Dylan,
- 54:44but he didn't speak actual words, just spoke gibberish. I don't recall.
- 54:46It was the one where that Hank's got the Hank got the Willies. It's
- 54:50the one where it's the golf one and Willie Nelson's on It is that Willie
- 54:53Nelson's party, you remember? I forget the Bob Dylan part. Oh yeah,
- 54:57Bob Dylan's in there. Yeah, I think I'm pretty sure it was.
- 55:00Who's the voice of Hank Hill? What's his name? My Judge'm pretty
- 55:01sure my judge was the voice game I'll find out. Well, and Dylan's
- 55:05one of those guys it's fun to make, not make fun of, but
- 55:07fun to imitate. One of the reasons I got divorced. But uh,
- 55:15there's a great bit in Oliver Stone's movie The Doors about the Doors where Commic
- 55:21glaughlin playing ray Manzeric. That's a good movie, The Doors. It is,
- 55:23it is, and uh yeah, Raymond's Eric and he's sort of talking
- 55:28about Dylan and he does it. Dan's in the basement, Nick's and then
- 55:30the Men and then I'm on the pavement, Doug a man the Government.
- 55:34I just love doing that. I used to annoy my ex wife a little
- 55:37of the time and now she's happily mawhere. She was a big fan of
- 55:43Dylan. We saw him live and oh well yeah in the Beas because Dennis
- 55:51Hoppe was also in that episode. It was yeah, I mean, I'm
- 55:53not there was was really interesting because who played in there was like Kate Lamb
- 56:00played him. He's Ledger, Christian Balech Pledger gets naked in that right.
- 56:04Probably it was a wild guy Blanchet, Bail Ledger, Rich Gear, Yeah,
- 56:13Ben, We're sure, the Boys of Pennington and a young actor named
- 56:15Marcus Carl Franklin. He's not done much since I don't think, oh,
- 56:19I don't think it's gone on to do a whole lot. He's let's have
- 56:21a look Marcus Carl Franklin. Let's look up. He's wiki. He's most
- 56:24known for portraying incarnation of Bob Dylan. He calls himself Woody Guthrie in the
- 56:29Bob Dylan biopick. Yeah. He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for
- 56:32Best Supporting Male in that film. He's now thirty one years old. We're
- 56:37fucking old, damn son. I don't know any ones you particularly like.
- 56:43It was just I'm not bare was one? Yeah? The Doors was on
- 56:45you brought up. Yeah. Yeah, let's not say for him, that's
- 56:47that's that's not Let's not say that that's not so recent anymore, is it
- 56:51that? The Doors? I mean, no, that was nineties, wasn't
- 56:53it. Now, that's like nineteen ninety's. That's like thirty five years ago,
- 56:58fell killing in his prime. That's the thing. I mean, I
- 57:00think something I've always said about The Door is that you get a great sort
- 57:02of double dose of nostalgia because it's an nineties film talking about the sixties and
- 57:07seventies, and that was thirty years ago, and this is the kind of
- 57:10movie that we were making in the ninety Yeah, Because I mean, you
- 57:14look at recent music biopicks, and even the ones that are sort of like,
- 57:17oh wow, the Head and this rock and wrong. I know you
- 57:21said let's not talk about Bohemian Rhapsody, but I mean Freddy mrcury is a
- 57:22guy who went after it. Not according to this movie, no terrible,
- 57:27not a good one. He came out I feel like he came out of
- 57:30that movie thinking that Freddy Merky was a prick. I think in that movie
- 57:32he didn't come out it was more like, yeah, I'm Freddy Mercury and
- 57:37gay as all hell, but really I love this goal. There was the
- 57:40Elton John one, which I haven't seen either. It was fine, okay,
- 57:45I thought the guy Taron Edgerton playing Elton John did a pretty good job,
- 57:47but it was sort of a bit Bohemian Rhapsody. The thing of it
- 57:52is, now you've got a lot of these movies, a lot of these
- 57:54biopics that are being produced or executive produced by the people that they're about.
- 58:00The Beatles ones are coming out, so you don't they Yeah, now where
- 58:01the Paul and Ringo. I'd like to think they probably would be got a
- 58:05bit of with things like that's probably better just watch the the remastered dock eyes
- 58:09like watch Get Back or apparently Let It Be has been remastered and you can
- 58:14Okay, there was like this great. I've never seen Let It Be,
- 58:16but I've read some exchange of dialogue front where Paul says, oh, sorry
- 58:20if I'm annoying you, George, and George like, you don't annoy me
- 58:22at all anymore. It's just like, oh, what a burn. One
- 58:25of my favorite Beatles songs is from Let It Be Naked, which is sort
- 58:28of like the b sessions. I've Let It Be and it's you know my
- 58:30name? Look up the number. Have you ever heard that song? I
- 58:32have not. It's just them fucking about for like seven minutes. You know
- 58:36my name? Look up the number? Worth it? Check it out?
- 58:38Check it out this guy. But you're asking about the musical bibe Sorry who
- 58:42asked this? That was from Heat that Will Be Heap. You're asking about
- 58:44musical bipics that I like. This isn't recent either. This is closer than
- 58:47twenty five years old. Movie called Velvet gold Mine. It's sort of about
- 58:51the rise of glam rock. They didn't have the rights to any Bowie songs
- 58:55or Bowie's image or anything like that. But I'm David Bowie baby, but
- 59:02Jonathan Reese Myers essentially plays it David Bowie like Ewan McGregor. This is in
- 59:07his pre Obi Wan phase. Yeah, just post Train Spotting plays like an
- 59:13Eggy pop type. Christian Bales in it as a reporter who was very big
- 59:16into the glam scene and now he's sort of following up on a bit of
- 59:20a murder mystery sideburns, so you always has sideburns when he plays like that
- 59:24kind of role. I think he did playing the younger version of It's a
- 59:28really good movie, and it's got a fantastic glam rock soundtrack. I like
- 59:30Walk the Line a lot of Johnny cash one. It's very it's pretty basic.
- 59:34I still have never seen it. That's what we've got on our list
- 59:36to watch Nickel and because Nicolas never seen it either. It's really good.
- 59:38Unfortunately, it does that thing that gets skewered pretty well in War Card,
- 59:43where you know you'll have someone saying a line that's like I'm going to turn
- 59:45that into a song. I mean, you have something where Reese Witherspoon playing
- 59:50June Carter Cash it's something like oh it burns, Burns burns like It's like,
- 59:54what the fuck on, man? How does that hot pizza like a
- 1:00:01fucking ring of fire? Oh? I shouldn't have had that freedom. By
- 1:00:07the way, tune into speaking of the Hill. That gag will make a
- 1:00:08lot more sense. Let's do a couple more questions Andrew JP. If you're
- 1:00:10a professional singer, what the genre would you choose to perform in? You'd
- 1:00:14be rap, right, you'd be hip hop if you if you had the
- 1:00:16ability to do it. You mean, if I had the if I had
- 1:00:20the sorry mcg d here. I think being just being a front man is
- 1:00:27like the dream for me. Yeah, just having that Freddie Mercury energy.
- 1:00:30You know where you got, where you got the ability to go. I
- 1:00:35just have so much ability and believe in myself. I ain't you a funk.
- 1:00:37I just do what I want this stage. I've always been a fan
- 1:00:39of people who like they name their band after themselves, Yeah, Homer and
- 1:00:45the Yeah, or the Steve Miller band. It's like, I'm Steve Miller
- 1:00:49and this is the band. Motherfucker. There's a great line in that movie
- 1:00:53Almost Famous, where Jason Lee is the lead singer of the band, but
- 1:00:59the guitarist played by Billy kru All the chicks love him, and he's kind
- 1:01:01of like the center of attention gets rid of like I'm the front man.
- 1:01:06You're the lead guitarist with mystique, You're meant to just be over there and
- 1:01:09be kind of Wow, that guy's kind of interesting. You shouldn't be front
- 1:01:13and center. That's a movie I need to revisit. Always been one of
- 1:01:15my favorites. Good movie. If I was a muso, I've always Yeah,
- 1:01:20I think I said actually in the last episode of this podcast, if
- 1:01:22I was a singer song writer, it would be a guy named David Gray.
- 1:01:24I like that guy, rach Beasley. If you could sing one song
- 1:01:29perfectly, what would it be, I'm going to go Behemian Rhapsody. I
- 1:01:31feel like if you could sing Behimi in Rapsy perfectly, you'd be like,
- 1:01:35everyone will love you at the party. That's requiring a lot. Yeah,
- 1:01:37you've got to do what harmony is? Yeah, everything matter of Wow.
- 1:01:42Just having Freddie Mercury is just Mama. Yeah, I'd love that. What
- 1:01:45about you? It's not necessarily a crowd favor or anything like that. I
- 1:01:50like Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley. Yeah, I think I think because it's
- 1:01:52got sort of moody stuff, and you know it goes down a little bit,
- 1:01:55but then you've got to be able to hit some high notes a bit
- 1:01:58a little bit later on, get a bit impawer. He passed away really
- 1:02:00young. Right, Oh yeah, he died. It like maybe you got
- 1:02:04to pass out and drowned or something. He was swimming in the Mississippi one
- 1:02:07night and just drowned. Yeah, terrible. We actually had a question last
- 1:02:12week from AIRM and Andrew swan right. I said I was going to get
- 1:02:15back to it, and I am right. We mentioned it before we recorded.
- 1:02:17He said what would the sequel for the Simpsons movie be? And just
- 1:02:21before we went to air, we went what can We went to record what
- 1:02:24could it be? And guy came up with the great idea. And I
- 1:02:28really liked this of a Halloween movie for the Simpsons, So I said,
- 1:02:31you couldn't technically make this the Simpsons movie, like Simpsons sequel in the cinema,
- 1:02:37but I think this would be a great like Disney special at Halloween time
- 1:02:39or whatever. Yeah, well, a full length, a full length thing.
- 1:02:43But it's almost like twenty two short films of Springfield. Twenty two short
- 1:02:45films about Springfield. Sorry, but set a Halloween on Halloween night. I
- 1:02:50think there'd be a lot of fun to be had with that across between a
- 1:02:52Treehouse of Horror episode and a twenty two short films about Springfield episode In that
- 1:02:58Yeah, the way I thought about it, Barton Milhouse are off on some
- 1:03:01spooky Halloween adventure. Lisa is doing something. It was a it was a
- 1:03:07joke that we couldn't think of anything that Lisa to do this. So she's
- 1:03:09doing something, but we'll find something. We're gonna call it a trick or
- 1:03:12Treehouse of Horror. Yeah, And Homer and Marge are at home Hannett Candy
- 1:03:17and it turns into something like the Strangers or the Purge or something like that.
- 1:03:21It's a bit of a home invasion thing. Well, we had the
- 1:03:22home invasion with the Halloween of Horror. Remember that one, the one where
- 1:03:25it's from like season twenty six or whatever. That's one of the best post
- 1:03:29modern, post Golden Eerest episodes of all time where it's set on Halloween nights.
- 1:03:32It's actually scary. Did you review that one with me? I think
- 1:03:35so, Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did it with Mitch Morson sure where
- 1:03:37that we went back and reviees it as well. But Halloween of Horrors is
- 1:03:38an absolute it's amazing. It's a bad checking out, all right, we'll
- 1:03:42check it out. But basically it's like, it's what's the movie where three
- 1:03:44is it? Three people wearing masks coming to the house. That's the strangers,
- 1:03:47the strange, that's what it's what it is. Yeah, it's a
- 1:03:50parody of that spooky out and it's a scary episode as well. Yeah,
- 1:03:52it's really really good Halloween of Horror. But because let's say Barton Milhouse are
- 1:03:57going all over Springfield trying to get candy, you know, they run into
- 1:04:00various other residents of Springfield who are having their own sort of mini spooky adventures.
- 1:04:05Yep, so everybody gets a look in. And yeah, Halloween is
- 1:04:10the framing device. So we too spooky films about Springfield. Yeah, pretty
- 1:04:13much. So there's a great Halloween movie called Trick or Treat that I really
- 1:04:17really enjoy, and I think that's a good sort of framing device. It's
- 1:04:20got three stories that sort of intertwined and interconnect throughout and other little bits and
- 1:04:26pieces that are happening. So I shamelessly rip that off for the idea and
- 1:04:30Dando, being the big brain that he is, elaborated on it turned into
- 1:04:33what could be an excellent Simpsons movie sequel. Let's do it all right?
- 1:04:38Well, that would be our review of the Homer of Seville. I hope

- 1:05:11looks it looks the same. It looks like Midnight Cowboys pronounced the same.
