Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's a podcast called twenty five Wists Stuck in Football
- 0:08Speaker 1: and they go wear a whist So, yeah, it's too bad,
- 0:11Speaker 1: but what don't you expect? It's a podcast called twenty
- 0:15Speaker 1: five Whistles line. All right, we're in twos on Arizona.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Thank you guys, twenty five whistles. Uh, we're gonna get
- 0:24Speaker 1: with the head coach, Coach Brennan in just a few minutes. Wait,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Brent Brennan. Brent Brennan. Confusing name, Brent bren bb Oh gosh,
- 0:34Speaker 1: you're Bobby bone. No. No, no, listen to me, Brent
- 0:37Speaker 1: bran No, but it's two syllables of that Brent Nobody.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Still it starts in Brent Brannan Bent. Okay, Yeah, that's
- 0:46Speaker 1: so anyway. Coach Brennan, who is at Arizona, which it's
- 0:49Speaker 1: a weird situation for him because he comes in after
- 0:52Speaker 1: Arizona was awesome last year. They're expecting to be awesome
- 0:55Speaker 1: this year. And if you don't know, if you're not
- 0:58Speaker 1: completely dialed in, you're just like, congrats on season, let's
- 1:00Speaker 1: do it again, and he's like, I wasn't here last year. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and a lot of times not the case. He's in
- 1:06Speaker 1: an interesting situation. Always been kind of a West coast guy, though, Yeah,
- 1:10Speaker 1: you know all the schools. When it came from San
- 1:12Speaker 1: Jose State, Eddie had to bring up in the interview
- 1:14Speaker 1: how they beat us at Arkansas. I wasn't gonna bring
- 1:15Speaker 1: it up. I didn't bring it up at Western Kentucky.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's stupid. It was a big win for him, man,
- 1:19Speaker 1: one of his biggest win.
- 1:20Speaker 2: The best part was I told Eddie on the plane
- 1:22Speaker 2: when I was doing some prep stuff. I was like, Hey,
- 1:24Speaker 2: did you know about this? And he's like, no, does
- 1:26Speaker 2: Bobby know? And I was like, I don't know, Probably
- 1:28Speaker 2: he does.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Left it went right over there the next year and.
- 1:31Speaker 2: He's like, don't tell Bobby.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I'll never bring it up. Give that to me. Well,
- 1:34Speaker 1: there was a ball behind him to and Eddie spotted
- 1:36Speaker 1: the ball and was like, hey, so that's coming up
- 1:38Speaker 1: in a few minutes. I did want to talk about
- 1:40Speaker 1: this because I don't know how many of you guys
- 1:42Speaker 1: were were doing top shot. Top shot shot was buying
- 1:46Speaker 1: those uh like NFT NBA oh oh. I did it
- 1:50Speaker 1: for a little bit. I did about a year.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I invested two hundred dollars and then cashed out
- 1:56Speaker 3: at one night. Oh so you got out out, Yes,
- 1:59Speaker 3: that's done.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Done. So I was reading a story about them because
- 2:02Speaker 1: you are buddy Steve lunch boxes. I just remember you
- 2:06Speaker 1: guys would stay in like buy top Shot look for
- 2:09Speaker 1: moments NFTs.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I did see last night where Top
- 2:14Speaker 1: Shot is now paying if you have one of their
- 2:17Speaker 1: one of one moments because people were spending one hundred
- 2:19Speaker 1: and twenty five thousand dollars. Yeah, one hundred and fifty
- 2:21Speaker 1: thousand dollars on some of those big ones. They are
- 2:24Speaker 1: guaranteeing for every one of those moments. Now twelve cents. Wow,
- 2:29Speaker 1: bottom what a scam? Bottom down dude?
- 2:33Speaker 4: Why twelve?
- 2:34Speaker 1: I don't know. That's a random number sort of lawsuit.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's now not treated as like a you know, like
- 2:41Speaker 1: an investment. It's more like a hobby. Dude. Everybody they
- 2:44Speaker 1: got those got got.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean NFTs too, right, Like that was like
- 2:48Speaker 3: the whole idea of it's just an image and you
- 2:50Speaker 3: own that image. Now there are thirty thousand images of that,
- 2:54Speaker 3: but no, not that one.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You own that one. I never understood it anyway. Okay,
- 2:58Speaker 1: what I would argue that with is if you own
- 3:02Speaker 1: a song you wrote, Okay, ten thousand people have it,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but you actually own it and you can make the
- 3:07Speaker 1: money off of it, and if you want to resell it,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you could sell it for like somebody sells are publishing.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Sure they're they're selling a song that everybody has, So
- 3:17Speaker 1: why would you spend all the money on it? But
- 3:19Speaker 1: it was it was a picture of say that month
- 3:22Speaker 1: Scott I was talking about like the n f T s.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But you know those apes, the the the pictures, all
- 3:28Speaker 1: the apes that were going.
- 3:29Speaker 3: From like yeah, yeah, yeah, I had one of like
- 3:32Speaker 3: dollars dir wait was it Dirk Nvitsky?
- 3:34Speaker 1: I bought like four or five? I want to hear
- 3:36Speaker 1: your what you're talking about, But I bought like four
- 3:38Speaker 1: or five and I never got into it. I got
- 3:41Speaker 1: into it for more than you did, as I tend
- 3:44Speaker 1: to with everything and what's funny, what's up? That makes
- 3:50Speaker 1: perfect cannon ball into things? But I bought like a
- 3:59Speaker 1: Dirt Novitski cartoon drawing by like a famous NFT artist,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and I've probably spent like one thousand dollars on it,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and that one you can now get for twelve cents.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I don't know. And I actually have bought a few
- 4:13Speaker 1: of them, and I've stored them on open Sea, which
- 4:16Speaker 1: I believe is like NFT website. I don't know any
- 4:19Speaker 1: think about this. I'm gonna be wrong a bit in
- 4:21Speaker 1: describing this. I got to offer for one of them yesterday,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and I don't know which one. I need to check.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I dont even my password. What a coincidence? I know.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I need to go into my email and look into
- 4:29Speaker 1: a second I got to offer. I don't know which one,
- 4:32Speaker 1: but they're just sitting there. It's like sitting't wear like
- 4:35Speaker 1: a market Yeah, you know how you can? eBay has
- 4:38Speaker 1: like the eBay Vault, and so you can buy something
- 4:41Speaker 1: and they'll just go to the Eba vault and then
- 4:43Speaker 1: whenever you want to sell it, they'll listen and sell
- 4:45Speaker 1: it for you, and then you get the money. You
- 4:46Speaker 1: don't have to sell it right then, and you don't
- 4:47Speaker 1: have to receive it. He goes to what's considered the vault,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and so it's a bit like that where you buy
- 4:53Speaker 1: it through them. Then they just hold it basically, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: other people can look at it and they can buy
- 4:58Speaker 1: it if they want. It's like an open market place,
- 5:01Speaker 1: marketplace the whole time. But I'll look in a few
- 5:03Speaker 1: minutes and that's weird. That's weird that just happened. And
- 5:06Speaker 1: I need to see what my value is on these things,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because I'm sure it's like thirteen cents.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I just I just remember the conversation of like, well,
- 5:12Speaker 3: what is it? It's nothing, it's an image, But.
- 5:16Speaker 1: There would be like having an original painting of someone
- 5:19Speaker 1: when there's ten thousand.
- 5:20Speaker 3: As well, but you have the original one that they made. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 3: but that would be the original two that was made.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But it's exactly you're talking like all the other you're
- 5:28Speaker 3: talking like a grandpa. But it's like, ah, this is
- 5:30Speaker 3: the same conversation we had two years by the way,
- 5:31Speaker 3: but it's.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Like starry night. There's ten thousand of those that have
- 5:34Speaker 1: been Yeah, but you want the one that van go,
- 5:36Speaker 1: they don't you? Yeah? Yeah, okay, the one that he did, Yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and the one that he paid. The person that made
- 5:41Speaker 1: the NFT is a specific person, an artist that made that. Okay.
- 5:45Speaker 3: So it is different than the hot Shots or whatever
- 5:48Speaker 3: we're talking about, Yes, except top Shots except yes, that's
- 5:50Speaker 3: just a version of it, okay, because top Shots was
- 5:53Speaker 3: just dude, but that's a one of one. It was
- 5:54Speaker 3: a one of one of Dak Prescott, like just he
- 5:58Speaker 3: was throwing the ball. But but no one, no one
- 6:00Speaker 3: else has that picture.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's not a picture. Live moments so too like three
- 6:03Speaker 1: second live moments. Correct, you own the live moment. You
- 6:06Speaker 1: own that live moment.
- 6:07Speaker 3: So like live like of someone you take a picture
- 6:09Speaker 3: on the cell phone and it's got the three seconds.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And value is just what it's sold for, right, Yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 1: So for example, baseball cards, football cards, really what are
- 6:18Speaker 1: they worth a penny? Right? It's just paper. But there
- 6:21Speaker 1: is an entire culture that has assigned value to certain cards,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and as soon as that collapses, then they're worth nothing
- 6:27Speaker 1: because it's only worth what is deemed valuable by the
- 6:30Speaker 1: people inside that culture. Correct, it's like our money. Yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I do want to get into that whole conversation. I
- 6:35Speaker 1: think we have talked about this. But twelve cents? Yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: what does that mean then?
- 6:41Speaker 3: So what does that mean that now when they were
- 6:43Speaker 3: spending thousands of dollars on these things and now they're
- 6:45Speaker 3: just twelve cents.
- 6:46Speaker 1: A lot of them, there's nothing, They've lost their money?
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah do you even sell or you just for twelve cents?
- 6:51Speaker 1: I know, I'm just not worth people.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Or in your own head are you like, I'm sticking
- 6:54Speaker 2: it to the man. I'm keeping this thing right.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'm out of here. You buzzed out the conversation buzz No,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I buzzed out it of being on anyway. It was
- 7:03Speaker 1: twelve cents, that's all. And you guys used to buy them.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I won't to know how much he spent on them.
- 7:05Speaker 1: That say, yeah, yeah, I mean I lost ten dollars
- 7:07Speaker 1: on it and never bought one. The guy who is
- 7:11Speaker 1: playing ball basketball and he can never play basketball again
- 7:16Speaker 1: because uh Johntay Porter talk out, that's what you had. No,
- 7:21Speaker 1: thank god, I was switching it up too. He admitted
- 7:24Speaker 1: Wednesday to the schemed to take himself out of games
- 7:27Speaker 1: for gambling sake, pleading guilty to a federal conspiracy crime
- 7:29Speaker 1: in the scandal that had already got a banned from
- 7:31Speaker 1: the league. So basically, he was like, all right, I'm
- 7:34Speaker 1: gonna probably play this much. If my over under is
- 7:37Speaker 1: four rebounds, I'm gonna act hurt early in the game,
- 7:40Speaker 1: so I can't get that. So then everybody would already
- 7:43Speaker 1: everybody make money that knew about it.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Now, if your teammate, do you think you have any idea?
- 7:49Speaker 1: It just depends how often he's first of all, he's
- 7:53Speaker 1: probably suss anyway, right, Like, there are a lot of
- 7:56Speaker 1: people in your life who do that kind of crab
- 7:57Speaker 1: that are already doing other crap like that. Maybe not
- 7:59Speaker 1: exactly the same, but sus folks or sus folks, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: so I don't think people were surprised. But when he
- 8:08Speaker 1: does it a couple of times or a few times,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think they're probably surprised that he would do something
- 8:11Speaker 1: so stupid and lose his entire career. How did he
- 8:14Speaker 1: get caught?
- 8:15Speaker 2: I and remember it was draft Kings went to the
- 8:19Speaker 2: NBA and was like, hey, I think we had an issue.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Here they were, and then the NBA investigated it. I mean,
- 8:25Speaker 2: those guys have great because they're like, who the heck
- 8:27Speaker 2: is betting on John Porter?
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's what even know that, That's what it was, big
- 8:31Speaker 1: bets from John Taylord. He was a role player at best.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, played two minutes of games like that.
- 8:35Speaker 1: He said, I know that what I did was wrong
- 8:37Speaker 1: on lawful and I'm deeply sorry. The former Toronto Raptor
- 8:40Speaker 1: Center said. As he played guilty to conspiracy to commit
- 8:42Speaker 1: wire fraud, he admitted of doing it and said his
- 8:44Speaker 1: reason was to get to get out from under large
- 8:47Speaker 1: gambling debts.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Hey man is chase him and translator they probably hang
- 8:52Speaker 2: out a lot.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Porter is free. On twenty and fifty thousands bond, prosecutors
- 8:55Speaker 1: estimated a sentence at a range from just on our
- 8:57Speaker 1: three and a half years in prison to a little
- 8:58Speaker 1: over four years, which WHI means he'll probably do like
- 9:01Speaker 1: nine months or something if you do if he does
- 9:03Speaker 1: go in. Another thing was the big news was but
- 9:06Speaker 1: before we get to coach here that I saw that
- 9:09Speaker 1: there were a bunch of schools that could possibly go
- 9:11Speaker 1: into the Big twelve, which is now Conference three of
- 9:16Speaker 1: the three bigs, I mean, the ACC is probably the
- 9:19Speaker 1: four for ranking them. It's it's SEC for sure. One
- 9:22Speaker 1: Big ten now two ACC, three, Big twelve four Ye
- 9:31Speaker 1: Pack twelve high. We forgot Pack two packed. Yeah, what's weird?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Two is like Big ten to have ten schools anymore?
- 9:37Speaker 1: They should change those names. And they used to change them, right,
- 9:40Speaker 1: the Big twelve used to be the Big ten. Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: like they But that's even confusing. So Big twelve lost
- 9:46Speaker 1: two and they gained how many? Well, so here's the
- 9:49Speaker 1: story is that what they're the SEC apparently turned down
- 9:52Speaker 1: Florida State and Clemson, which is surprising to me. Those
- 9:57Speaker 1: are two real deal schools, two blue blae a program
- 10:03Speaker 1: especially for football because Florida State it's okay at basketball
- 10:07Speaker 1: sometimes Clemson really doesn't play basketball? Do they they run?
- 10:11Speaker 1: This year? They were okay? Here, they were okay. I
- 10:14Speaker 1: had them, I had them. Yeah, yeah, and my bet
- 10:17Speaker 1: by a team, I guess. I don't think of them
- 10:19Speaker 1: as like traditionally in the tournament, Uh, baseball, are you wrong?
- 10:25Speaker 1: The two money money sports football and then basketball, those
- 10:29Speaker 1: are they're real teams. But apparently according to Greg Swain,
- 10:33Speaker 1: he said that both were turned down by the SEC
- 10:36Speaker 1: and then the Big ten and the Big twelve is
- 10:39Speaker 1: now in pursuit of those two and then four other
- 10:42Speaker 1: teams as well.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Boy, so the Big twelve is looking to make a
- 10:44Speaker 3: move in Big twenty.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, the Big five hundred.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Now does it come a competition of like how many
- 10:51Speaker 2: teams do you have right.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Measure? It's a measuring contest.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That's pretty cool though, that the SEC can be it's
- 10:59Speaker 3: such an elite club where they're like, we don't need you.
- 11:02Speaker 3: But then they still have Vandy in there, and but Vandy.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Deserves to be in there because Vandy was in when
- 11:07Speaker 1: the end on't awesome. I know.
- 11:09Speaker 3: But if we're making all these changes and you want
- 11:11Speaker 3: to stay an elite, that's true. They're so smart and rich.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And you know they're graduating. So he went on to say,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but from Vegas, the talk is the SEC has now
- 11:20Speaker 1: turned the pair down with new sponsorship. The Big twelve
- 11:23Speaker 1: probably won't pay quite what the other two would, but
- 11:26Speaker 1: they will pay double what the ACC does. Swim is
- 11:29Speaker 1: confident in his prediction and related that the SEC and
- 11:32Speaker 1: Big ten might not add any new programs for a while.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So the other schools. Do you have ther other schools?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Because I saw them yesterday. It's like an oh, bless you,
- 11:42Speaker 1: thank you. NC State, Virginia Tech. I'll talk individually. N
- 11:47Speaker 1: C State basketball powerhouse? Who are they a power? I
- 11:51Speaker 1: think they used to be.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I mean, he just got drafted, just got drafted. You're right,
- 11:56Speaker 3: they're done.
- 11:57Speaker 1: They were good this year. I think of the universally, like,
- 11:59Speaker 1: are they okay? Right?
- 12:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Basketball? Football, you're not really? And really, when you consider
- 12:04Speaker 1: a school coming to a conference, if you're not a
- 12:06Speaker 1: plus basketball, you better be good at football real quick.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm sorry, your burp smells so bad. That's it's not
- 12:14Speaker 1: I was like, what did you lingering?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like are you just slowly like letting it
- 12:20Speaker 2: out right?
- 12:22Speaker 1: And the more you talk, man, it's good that that'll
- 12:26Speaker 1: be funny. Okay, go ahead, sorry, inc state their value. Football,
- 12:31Speaker 1: let's write it with a grade. Football C sure, Basketball
- 12:37Speaker 1: B minus.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Fair, Okay, let's go Virginia Tech.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Okay, football B.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Basketball, I mean I don't see sometimes they sometimes
- 12:55Speaker 1: they creep in there.
- 12:56Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean all these teams sometimes.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Ball school, like I think of them, have it Beamer
- 13:02Speaker 1: and Mike Vick and yeah, I mean ten years ago
- 13:06Speaker 1: this was an a team in football. Yeah, Louisville mm hmmm.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I mean they're difficult because they're you give them c
- 13:15Speaker 1: pluses both. Here's the problem. Basketball have been terrible lately, yes,
- 13:22Speaker 1: but have when I think of them, I still think
- 13:24Speaker 1: of them because it hasn't been one hundred years that
- 13:26Speaker 1: they've been mediocre. They've been really good. I would go
- 13:29Speaker 1: basketball be overall last twenty five years, I'm gonna be
- 13:37Speaker 1: is that what you're doing past five years? Fair? Life? Oh?
- 13:41Speaker 2: Then yeah, for sure it be?
- 13:43Speaker 1: And then football. Listen, they've had some really good years
- 13:46Speaker 1: for sure, but they don't play football. I'm gonna give
- 13:49Speaker 1: them a B minus and that's a high grade.
- 13:51Speaker 2: That's more recently than anything.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, Okay, in Miami, this will be another team. Man,
- 13:56Speaker 1: that's tough. Okay, but Miami is what Texas is, except
- 14:01Speaker 1: text has actually got good last year. But it's like,
- 14:03Speaker 1: is Miami back basketball Final four last year? Yeah? Basketball?
- 14:10Speaker 1: B minus? But have been good at times lately. But
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm still gonna go be minus.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so are we doing the twenty five Okay,
- 14:16Speaker 2: let's call it that then? Oh yeah, I say BB minus.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you mean the start of the last of the
- 14:21Speaker 1: twenty five years? Yeah, the football. I would even say
- 14:23Speaker 1: B plus because gosh, just from how legendary the brand is.
- 14:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Can you guys hear the airplane?
- 14:33Speaker 2: I wonder where they're going?
- 14:34Speaker 4: Yeah? You do that?
- 14:37Speaker 1: You do that?
- 14:38Speaker 4: You guys.
- 14:39Speaker 1: There's an app?
- 14:40Speaker 3: Do you know there's an app where you can like
- 14:41Speaker 3: take a picture of the planet, tells you exactly where
- 14:43Speaker 3: it's going, where it came from.
- 14:44Speaker 1: If you take a picture of the plane, it's way
- 14:46Speaker 1: up there is there something that where it reads the
- 14:48Speaker 1: tail number even if you can't see another picture. I honestly,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I don't know if somebody told me about the app,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I don't have it. Two some looks have a pretty
- 14:55Speaker 1: good train system. This is the most add podcast. Yeah yeah, okay, anyway,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the SEC said no, Big ten said no. But the
- 15:05Speaker 1: Big twelve I think that would make them a lot
- 15:06Speaker 1: stronger because there are more I won't say blue blood
- 15:11Speaker 1: but foundational athletic programs that would be in the conference.
- 15:14Speaker 2: They need it.
- 15:15Speaker 1: They do need it because right now they are in
- 15:17Speaker 1: fourth place. But I think if they did this, they
- 15:21Speaker 1: would catch the a SEC. Yeah, because they would take
- 15:23Speaker 1: Florida State, they would take Clemson and then also Miami,
- 15:27Speaker 1: Miami and Virginia Tech. Oh, Georgia Tech is another one.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, gosh, that's tough, dude. Yeah, but I think
- 15:34Speaker 1: these programs are programs that we know have won and
- 15:36Speaker 1: have a bunch of money. Yeah, it could be good.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, they're strong programs.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Now, speaking of strong programs, let's go over here. Let's
- 15:42Speaker 1: say a quick break and we'll go and let's talk
- 15:44Speaker 1: to Arizona head football coach Brent Brant Red Brennant. All right,
- 15:49Speaker 1: hold on, coach, we're here right after media days. I
- 15:53Speaker 1: apologize they're doing right after. But being in the Big Twelve, now, like,
- 15:58Speaker 1: what's the difference in the Big twelve media as opposed
- 16:00Speaker 1: to not being in this conference, not even the school,
- 16:02Speaker 1: but you not being in the conference? Like what's that
- 16:05Speaker 1: media day like compared to the past that you've been in.
- 16:07Speaker 4: This one had obviously a lot more fanfare to it.
- 16:11Speaker 4: The venue was incredible. We were at the you know,
- 16:14Speaker 4: on the floor or on the on the field at
- 16:16Speaker 4: Allegiance Stadium, and you know, there was I was explaining
- 16:20Speaker 4: it to one of our players because they had watched
- 16:22Speaker 4: all the clips on social media. And when I was
- 16:26Speaker 4: sitting on the stage there there's literally like fifty yards
- 16:28Speaker 4: of media, you know, not paying attention while I was
- 16:32Speaker 4: up there, but like some guys, some guys ask questions.
- 16:37Speaker 4: So yeah, it was just it was a lot of fun.
- 16:39Speaker 4: This is extremely well done, kind of the first time
- 16:42Speaker 4: for all of us to be together as a conference,
- 16:45Speaker 4: and so, you know, the Big Twelve definitely put their
- 16:48Speaker 4: best foot forward.
- 16:49Speaker 1: A lot of new you're new here, the school is
- 16:52Speaker 1: new in the conference. It feels a bit like it
- 16:56Speaker 1: could be a culture change just for everyone because again
- 16:59Speaker 1: you're playing you never played before. Or that the school
- 17:02Speaker 1: has really never played before, there's no history. So do
- 17:06Speaker 1: you have to go and kind of watch tape of
- 17:08Speaker 1: every school, Have your scouting department watch tape of every
- 17:11Speaker 1: school like baseline before the season starts.
- 17:13Speaker 4: You always do that, And actually, I got this question yesterday,
- 17:16Speaker 4: so I'm ready. But the other part that happens is
- 17:19Speaker 4: by the time you play your conference opponents, you've already
- 17:23Speaker 4: played two, three, four or five games, and so by
- 17:26Speaker 4: then you're really basing everything off of what's happening in
- 17:29Speaker 4: the twenty twenty four season, especially in the era of
- 17:33Speaker 4: transfer portal, rosters are changing over so many different players
- 17:37Speaker 4: as part of rosters. We definitely went through the spring
- 17:41Speaker 4: and the early summer and did like preliminary scouting reports
- 17:43Speaker 4: of our opponents, but the majority of those kind of
- 17:47Speaker 4: those schematic decisions will be made based on the guys
- 17:50Speaker 4: that are playing this year.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It feels like when you come in now, because of
- 17:54Speaker 1: the portal and the option for kids to jump out,
- 17:57Speaker 1: that you have to move into the house and welcome
- 18:00Speaker 1: everybody really quickly to get them to stay quicker than
- 18:03Speaker 1: ever before because they can do. You feel that like
- 18:06Speaker 1: as soon as you're hired, you have to get here
- 18:07Speaker 1: and start cultivating relationships immediately.
- 18:10Speaker 4: That's exactly what we did actually right here in this office.
- 18:15Speaker 4: My first day I met the team, which was a Tuesday,
- 18:17Speaker 4: met him at four o'clock. And after that I had
- 18:19Speaker 4: a conversation with Noah Flafida and said, hey, why don't
- 18:23Speaker 4: you get some of the guys together tomorrow that you
- 18:25Speaker 4: think I need to talk to and let's sit down
- 18:27Speaker 4: and let's just talk. And so the next day at
- 18:30Speaker 4: two o'clock after my press conference, I came in here
- 18:32Speaker 4: and there was twenty five kids and we sat here
- 18:35Speaker 4: and I sat up there and they just kind of
- 18:37Speaker 4: filled the room and they just fired questions at me.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I said, ask whatever you want. And because it was
- 18:41Speaker 4: that like, I needed to give them a chance to
- 18:43Speaker 4: get to know me. Obviously they know each other, but
- 18:45Speaker 4: I need to give them a chance to get to
- 18:46Speaker 4: know me. Is great. And when we were done talk
- 18:48Speaker 4: about two hours. And when we were done, I said,
- 18:51Speaker 4: have this feel and they're like, this is cool? You
- 18:53Speaker 4: know all right? I said, okay, you guys want to
- 18:55Speaker 4: do it again tomorrow and they said yeah. So the
- 18:57Speaker 4: next day, you know, plus remind us a few players
- 19:00Speaker 4: the same group came back and we went through the
- 19:02Speaker 4: same thing with a bunch of different questions, and it
- 19:04Speaker 4: was that it was absolutely trying to get to know
- 19:07Speaker 4: each other as fast as we could.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I like, Day one maybe a lot of questions about
- 19:10Speaker 1: the scheme, if they want to stay, if it's going
- 19:12Speaker 1: to make sense, how many cures do you plan on
- 19:14Speaker 1: giving the running? Day two is like what color are
- 19:16Speaker 1: the cleats? I mean, is that kind of how it went?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Like Day two? They wanted to like the cool things.
- 19:20Speaker 4: No, I would say there was some of that in
- 19:22Speaker 4: day one too. The cleat question was the first day,
- 19:25Speaker 4: you know, and I told them, yeah, I don't care
- 19:28Speaker 4: as long as they're Nike, you know. I said, if
- 19:30Speaker 4: I care about that, we got much bigger problems, you know,
- 19:33Speaker 4: on game day. So, you know, every every head coach
- 19:37Speaker 4: is different. Every head coach has their own style, their
- 19:40Speaker 4: own philosophy, the stuff they believe in. And I was
- 19:42Speaker 4: just trying to give them an idea of what was
- 19:44Speaker 4: going to be important to me and what I was
- 19:46Speaker 4: going to want to make sure they understood where I
- 19:49Speaker 4: was coming from on certain things, and I wanted to
- 19:51Speaker 4: hear what they thought, you know, because I think sometimes
- 19:53Speaker 4: players don't think they have any say in their program.
- 19:56Speaker 4: That's not that's not my style. Like I want them
- 19:58Speaker 4: to have all to say. You know, I know the
- 20:00Speaker 4: buck stops with me, and I get that, but I
- 20:02Speaker 4: want them to understand that they have input here and
- 20:05Speaker 4: we're going to make decisions together that directly impact our
- 20:08Speaker 4: football team.
- 20:09Speaker 1: You mentioned Noah specifically, obviously crazy baller. As soon as
- 20:13Speaker 1: you get the job, do you call him even quicker
- 20:16Speaker 1: than getting here to make sure that he's committed to staying? Like,
- 20:20Speaker 1: was there a back channel with him? Do you knew
- 20:22Speaker 1: he wanted to stay? What was that process?
- 20:23Speaker 5: Like?
- 20:23Speaker 4: No, it really wasn't like that. It all happened pretty fast,
- 20:28Speaker 4: and so I was just trying to get down here
- 20:31Speaker 4: and get a chance to get to meet everybody. So
- 20:34Speaker 4: on the first day I met everybody briefly. It was
- 20:36Speaker 4: pretty quick. And then after the team meeting and the
- 20:41Speaker 4: guys broke up and left, I had to go over
- 20:43Speaker 4: to HR, and Noah jumped on the back of the
- 20:46Speaker 4: golf cart. I was in with my wife and they
- 20:50Speaker 4: whisked me into HR and we talked for a minute
- 20:52Speaker 4: and she comes in interrupt She's like, Hey, I think
- 20:54Speaker 4: you need to sit out and know Fafida, I'm like,
- 20:56Speaker 4: way to go, babe, you know, like she was on
- 20:59Speaker 4: you know, she was on it, and he and I
- 21:01Speaker 4: had a great conversation, and that's what. That was the
- 21:03Speaker 4: start of the plan to try and get everybody to
- 21:05Speaker 4: get together the next two days. He still didn't know.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I don't think he wasn't sure. You know, he was
- 21:10Speaker 4: interviewing me as much as I was trying to get
- 21:12Speaker 4: to know him.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Coach, I want to talk about the heat a little bit.
- 21:15Speaker 1: It's serious over here. How does it play a role
- 21:19Speaker 1: in how you do practices or how you just work
- 21:22Speaker 1: in it?
- 21:22Speaker 4: Well, it's funny, you know, I think the heat, the heat,
- 21:27Speaker 4: the cold, it doesn't matter. Like those things are one
- 21:29Speaker 4: of one deal that allows us, like players, coaches, people
- 21:33Speaker 4: to make excuses to not play well or practice hard.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So I'm always like, yeah, it doesn't matter, Like if
- 21:38Speaker 4: you get drafted in Green Bay, are you not going
- 21:40Speaker 4: to play? Of course you're going to play right. So
- 21:43Speaker 4: for the heat here, like, I actually love it. I'll
- 21:46Speaker 4: take the heat over the cold or the heat over
- 21:48Speaker 4: the rain any day. So far, it's been good, but
- 21:51Speaker 4: we were We've always been a morning practice team, so
- 21:54Speaker 4: we'll practice in the morning and we'll be off the
- 21:55Speaker 4: field by twelve twelve thirty. Every day in.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Colorado, if you run, are better when you're not in
- 22:01Speaker 1: Colorado because the elevation. If you work out here in
- 22:03Speaker 1: the heat, do you purposefully spend a little bit of
- 22:05Speaker 1: time outside to get that it's kind of like bonus
- 22:09Speaker 1: hard workout. So when you go somewhere that's a little temperate,
- 22:12Speaker 1: like your cardio, like you're so much ready, more ready physically,
- 22:16Speaker 1: or do you stay inside as much as possible.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I think we'll be outside for sure. I think there
- 22:22Speaker 4: is a toughness, a mentality component to the heat or
- 22:25Speaker 4: the cold or whatever extreme situation you have at your place.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But we're going to do both. And really a lot
- 22:32Speaker 4: of those decisions come down to a staff conversation or
- 22:36Speaker 4: a conversation with our strength and conditioning coaches in our
- 22:38Speaker 4: training room, you know, like hey, if it's too hot
- 22:41Speaker 4: and it's not safe, then we then we go indoors.
- 22:44Speaker 1: That was a very and you can probably look at
- 22:45Speaker 1: me until above mediocre slightly above mediocre high school football
- 22:49Speaker 1: player on a small level. He didn't agree, but I
- 22:53Speaker 1: mean to brack, but we didn't get water that was right.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That was how it was twenty years ago, thirty years ago,
- 23:00Speaker 1: that was. But water was a treat and we couldn't
- 23:03Speaker 1: have water. I remember when Coach built this. He had
- 23:05Speaker 1: a PBC pipe and he put a water hose into
- 23:06Speaker 1: it and put a little hole, little spot. I was like,
- 23:09Speaker 1: they invented the car. We were like, wow, I guess
- 23:13Speaker 1: everybody gets water now how they want to?
- 23:16Speaker 4: Absolutely we are.
- 23:18Speaker 1: We were.
- 23:18Speaker 4: I would say we are aggressive with our hydration because yeah,
- 23:23Speaker 4: well yeah, I mean obviously it's a health and safety
- 23:26Speaker 4: concern for starters baseline, but it's also has a tremendous
- 23:30Speaker 4: impact on performance, uh, mentally, physically, all those things.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So we're you remember that one when like water, Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: like okay, yeah, yeah, that's the way it was.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the way it was.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I didn't get water unless you earned ye.
- 23:44Speaker 4: And the other thing is we're sitting here talking. I
- 23:45Speaker 4: appreciate you guys giving me the short seat. So I
- 23:48Speaker 4: looked so I looked just like so much shorter than
- 23:50Speaker 4: you guys. But that was strategic.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Question about a picture in the room, I got a
- 23:53Speaker 1: couple one. They've already retired your jersey apparently number one
- 23:57Speaker 1: right over there. Yeah, no, I haven't even coach the
- 23:59Speaker 1: game yet, So how did you talking into retiring your jersey?
- 24:02Speaker 4: That was the jersey they handed me the day I
- 24:04Speaker 4: was hired.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Hiring jersey.
- 24:06Speaker 4: There's nothing special about that, okay, Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And then number two there's a picture and it shows
- 24:11Speaker 1: a text message with like I don't remember the number.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's like one thousand, six and twenty four unopened text messages.
- 24:18Speaker 1: That must mean something big happened. And you have all
- 24:21Speaker 1: these messages and so you screenshot what what is that picture?
- 24:24Speaker 4: So it's a it's a something I use with our team.
- 24:27Speaker 4: And that's that's within like thirty six hours after getting
- 24:30Speaker 4: this job, I had that many text messages. And my
- 24:34Speaker 4: point of the team is like when something good happens
- 24:36Speaker 4: for you, like everybody reaches out, and when something bad happens,
- 24:39Speaker 4: you know nobody. You don't hear from anybody and their
- 24:42Speaker 4: lives as football players. It's like that, you know, make
- 24:45Speaker 4: a good play social media, you know five thousand hits,
- 24:48Speaker 4: you make a bad play five thousand really bad stuff too,
- 24:53Speaker 4: And so you know it's a message for them, like
- 24:55Speaker 4: just don't give your power away to you know, the
- 24:57Speaker 4: social media world. Your telephone that part of it, because
- 25:00Speaker 4: it's so fleeting, and really all the matters are the
- 25:02Speaker 4: people that are in this building and the people that
- 25:04Speaker 4: you love and respect.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I can't believe them have your phone number.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Not anymore, Okay, not anymore.
- 25:10Speaker 1: It's changed. I've had a couple of really like lucky
- 25:13Speaker 1: cool moments, for at one point that I want a
- 25:16Speaker 1: reality show. I'm not a reality person, but I want
- 25:18Speaker 1: dancing with the stars. And I never danced before in
- 25:21Speaker 1: my life, and so it was like that, right, had
- 25:23Speaker 1: all the and then I got to the point where
- 25:25Speaker 1: I just copied and pasted thanks man, thanks man. But
- 25:27Speaker 1: that's why I saying amand to women, And then they
- 25:29Speaker 1: realized it was all did you copy and paste answers
- 25:31Speaker 1: back to people or did you just not reply to
- 25:33Speaker 1: all of them?
- 25:35Speaker 4: I'd say six hundred of those have been unread.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Still not Still you don't have You're not a dot guy.
- 25:41Speaker 1: There's no way on your phone.
- 25:41Speaker 4: You have read everywhere. Yeah, yeah, everywhere we gotta go.
- 25:46Speaker 4: There's hope for me. But but if I'm taking time
- 25:49Speaker 4: out of my day to respond to those people that
- 25:52Speaker 4: much like the people that I need to respond to,
- 25:54Speaker 4: I'm already responding to they already know, I've already believe them. Yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 4: that takes time to.
- 26:02Speaker 1: A couple of questions about the new rules this year,
- 26:04Speaker 1: the communication inside the helmet. I think that's awesome. They've
- 26:08Speaker 1: been doing it on obviously in the NFL levels all
- 26:12Speaker 1: around except for where you guys are, how do you
- 26:14Speaker 1: feel and have you already started to work on that
- 26:16Speaker 1: at all?
- 26:16Speaker 4: Yeah, we worked on that sum in spring, and I
- 26:18Speaker 4: think it's going to be really helpful. I think it'll
- 26:20Speaker 4: be interesting. It'll avoid some of the sign stealing, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 4: nonsense and conversations that happen every year in college football.
- 26:28Speaker 4: And I think it'll be also good for the players
- 26:31Speaker 4: because as they aspire to play on the next level,
- 26:32Speaker 4: that's going to be a component of their you know,
- 26:35Speaker 4: of them playing also, so I think it's good for everybody.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Is more of a conversation nonsense or is it stopping
- 26:41Speaker 1: the actual stein sign stealing because we heard a lot
- 26:44Speaker 1: about it last year especially, Was it a bigger topic
- 26:47Speaker 1: than it actually is or has it been existing for
- 26:50Speaker 1: a long time and it should have been a topic already.
- 26:52Speaker 4: I would say it's been going on forever, you know.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I think everyone's you know in every sport, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: not just specific Like.
- 27:00Speaker 1: If you can legally steal a signed that's not even stealing.
- 27:03Speaker 1: It's taking someone left it out on the side of
- 27:05Speaker 1: the curb. It's like a chair and you pick it
- 27:07Speaker 1: up on a Thursday. Legally, if you do that, that's fair, right,
- 27:12Speaker 1: but if not, if you're using other ways, that is unfair.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I would agree with that. Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 27:18Speaker 4: But just the natural to like reading signs or picking
- 27:21Speaker 4: signs like that's been happening forever.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Anyway, Are you gonna do signs at all, like backup signs?
- 27:26Speaker 4: Yes?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Do you use any pictures of things?
- 27:28Speaker 4: We will not.
- 27:29Speaker 1: You could use my head where that was going, like,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I would love to look on the siline, coach. I've
- 27:34Speaker 1: only ever given one school parmation to do this. It's
- 27:36Speaker 1: Arkansas around from it, and I was like, in basketball
- 27:38Speaker 1: they can hold it a big head of me on
- 27:39Speaker 1: the court when they do this. But I'd let you
- 27:41Speaker 1: use my head, Coach, I use big glass. If yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 1: you're in it'd be like dorky dive and that's what
- 27:48Speaker 1: it means, is like straight doork dive right up the middle, Coach.
- 27:50Speaker 1: It'd be perfect rule change. Just talk about another one.
- 27:53Speaker 1: We're talking about the communication. Are they doing the iPads?
- 27:55Speaker 1: Do you get like eighteen is it eighteen iPads? Sixteen iPads?
- 27:58Speaker 1: Whatever it is? Well, somebody would they be walking around
- 28:01Speaker 1: going right one, two, three only I think it's sixteen
- 28:04Speaker 1: or eighteen iPads or maybe not iPads. It could be tablets, tablets, yeah, generic,
- 28:08Speaker 1: will somebody be checking to make sure somebody doesn't have
- 28:11Speaker 1: nineteen tablets?
- 28:13Speaker 4: I think it would be more honor code until someone said, hey,
- 28:16Speaker 4: they're using too many tablets and.
- 28:18Speaker 1: The honor code is not good, cause we know that's
- 28:21Speaker 1: not good. There's gotta be somebody in charge of the
- 28:23Speaker 1: tablets a little.
- 28:25Speaker 4: But like you're responsible for your own sideline, you know,
- 28:27Speaker 4: so at the end of the day, like I'm in charge,
- 28:29Speaker 4: so like I'm not doing that for an extra tablet.
- 28:31Speaker 4: That's insane. It would be wasted. Like that doesn't make sense.
- 28:35Speaker 1: And that's just to watch quick versions of the game,
- 28:37Speaker 1: right gay exactly exactly, you're watching the previous series.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Like I think in terms of like learning and making
- 28:42Speaker 4: adjustments and understanding what's happening in real time, I think
- 28:45Speaker 4: we'll be incredibly valuable.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I think that's also a great rule. And this is
- 28:48Speaker 1: a couple of rules that I would like to see
- 28:49Speaker 1: happy boy here. No, I think because I love how
- 28:52Speaker 1: the rule changes have finally been implemented. I love the
- 28:55Speaker 1: communication and the helmet. Think about this one, coach. Everything's
- 28:58Speaker 1: the same, but when you score a touchdown, you get
- 29:01Speaker 1: a chance to kick the extra point if you scored
- 29:03Speaker 1: the touchdown, but that's worth two So let's say the
- 29:07Speaker 1: player that scored, the player that scored the touchdown, interesting,
- 29:10Speaker 1: now gets to kick the extra point if he wants,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and if he makes it, it's worth two points. Thoughts
- 29:16Speaker 1: like a good coach it. I think that's awesome because
- 29:19Speaker 1: how often is that really going to happen? Not not
- 29:21Speaker 1: very often. Like it's like the old school two point conversion.
- 29:24Speaker 1: They didn't do it a whole lot, but when they did,
- 29:25Speaker 1: that was not crazy.
- 29:26Speaker 4: But imagine it would be fun. I think you would have.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I think some of us would be like, all right,
- 29:32Speaker 4: if we're going to go for two, let's just call
- 29:34Speaker 4: it two point.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Play, that's probably good point to go and think about that.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I didn't think about that.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Again, I didn't know, man, I didn't think about Oh no, okay, okay,
- 29:43Speaker 1: fair enough you got another one. I do have another one.
- 29:45Speaker 1: This one's like legitimate, though, I feel like they should
- 29:47Speaker 1: at some point put some sort of digital tracking measurement
- 29:52Speaker 1: system in the balls, meaning and the lines. Yeah, why
- 29:55Speaker 1: are we waiting? It's humans first, then cameras. But sometimes
- 29:58Speaker 1: there are still angles that don't have clearly because there
- 30:01Speaker 1: are people on both sides. It's a goal line, goal
- 30:04Speaker 1: and play and let's check it, but they're alignment on
- 30:07Speaker 1: both sides where the camera is. What are your thoughts
- 30:08Speaker 1: on that? I agree, Kay, it's easy, all right, I'm
- 30:11Speaker 1: one for two right now.
- 30:12Speaker 4: Okay, So are you also a proponent of the automatic
- 30:17Speaker 4: strike zone?
- 30:17Speaker 1: Absolutely? Yeah. I think if you want to call it
- 30:20Speaker 1: into play. Let's say there's a challenge. I'm great. I
- 30:24Speaker 1: love challenges up to a limit, and if you're right,
- 30:26Speaker 1: you get to keep going. Like I think that's how
- 30:28Speaker 1: are you with the challenges?
- 30:30Speaker 4: Great? Yeah?
- 30:31Speaker 1: Everybody says that, Yeah it's great.
- 30:32Speaker 4: No, no, no, I think like you have to be
- 30:35Speaker 4: strategic with them, you know, And I think like sometimes
- 30:38Speaker 4: because it's because the fans are always like challenge and
- 30:42Speaker 4: you're like thinking of like the game, like the whole
- 30:44Speaker 4: game or this half, you know, situation and you're like,
- 30:47Speaker 4: there's there's often times where you're like, it's not worth it,
- 30:50Speaker 4: or this game is tight, I'm going to need that
- 30:51Speaker 4: time out, And so you're talking on the headset. Are
- 30:53Speaker 4: you sure?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Are you sure?
- 30:54Speaker 4: Are you sure? Oh?
- 30:55Speaker 1: You're a sure guy? You them accountable?
- 30:58Speaker 4: No. No, But there's always like because sometimes guys see it,
- 31:00Speaker 4: or they have access to a replay that you don't
- 31:02Speaker 4: have on the field.
- 31:03Speaker 1: But if he says yes coach, or.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah right, I'll go for it. And sometimes I
- 31:08Speaker 4: cost you a game.
- 31:09Speaker 1: He doesn't get water. See, I've got them no water
- 31:12Speaker 1: for him the next outside practice. Yes, we're figuring this out.
- 31:16Speaker 4: We're not into capital punishment yet.
- 31:19Speaker 1: One more rule change that I think we'll be good for.
- 31:21Speaker 4: No, no, this is one.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I am not a big fan of players faking injured
- 31:26Speaker 1: and then getting back in after one playout. I don't
- 31:30Speaker 1: know there are many coaches that would admit their fans
- 31:32Speaker 1: of it unless they're doing it. But I would also
- 31:33Speaker 1: train my players to do it. Let me be honest,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I would. I would train if there's a wide open offense,
- 31:37Speaker 1: I'll be like, grab your hammy, baby and get back
- 31:39Speaker 1: out there. And one to play, and then I would
- 31:41Speaker 1: be like, we don't like that. However, I think if
- 31:44Speaker 1: that happens, if they have to stop the game for
- 31:47Speaker 1: any reason injured, they can't come in until the next series.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Thoughts on that, I don't.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Think that's necessarily bad. But I also know in football
- 31:55Speaker 4: there are moments where a guy gets you know, turns
- 31:59Speaker 4: an ankle or something, and then the time allows him
- 32:02Speaker 4: to like kind of catch his breath and he realized
- 32:03Speaker 4: he's not as hurt, you know, So I could see
- 32:07Speaker 4: it both ways.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Hey, you know what that means? He likes it?
- 32:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, no, no, I do. I actually think, like,
- 32:15Speaker 4: for the most part, I do think football coaches have integrity.
- 32:18Speaker 4: I don't think a lot of coaches coach that. I'm
- 32:20Speaker 4: sure some do, but I do not believe the majority
- 32:22Speaker 4: of them do.
- 32:24Speaker 1: But if it's not against the rules, I would argue,
- 32:26Speaker 1: it's not even an integrity thing. It's a strategy thing.
- 32:29Speaker 1: If we make it against the rules, then it's then
- 32:32Speaker 1: an integrity thing. All my players we.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Do, no, but fanning injury is against the rules. If
- 32:37Speaker 4: you can like prove it, that's a problem. It's so
- 32:39Speaker 4: hard to that's right.
- 32:41Speaker 1: That's why someone who says I died and came back
- 32:43Speaker 1: to life. We can't say they didn't. We don't believe them,
- 32:46Speaker 1: but we can't say they didn't.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Okay, coach, when I talk about your career a little bit,
- 32:52Speaker 3: you know you were the head coach over at San
- 32:53Speaker 3: Jose State and U I believe it was not it
- 32:57Speaker 3: was twenty nineteen, you guys.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Be the first SEC team as a school. Do you
- 33:03Speaker 1: remember that game? Of course I did, Jack like it
- 33:05Speaker 1: was the eighties? Coach, Do you remember the game five
- 33:08Speaker 1: years ago? But I can.
- 33:10Speaker 4: I can tell he doesn't remember it.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Who did you guys beat?
- 33:12Speaker 4: We beat the University of Arkansas?
- 33:14Speaker 1: No, I know who it was. That was a terrible game.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Was a terrible game. I didn't want to bring it up. Yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 1: where's that ball? Look at that? We went to Western
- 33:22Speaker 1: Kentucky in the same bull crap where it was like
- 33:24Speaker 1: on the wall. We had to stop and look at it. Anyway,
- 33:27Speaker 1: go ahead, Yeah, well it's so cool about that game, Coach.
- 33:31Speaker 4: That game it was because the previous we had been
- 33:33Speaker 4: so we were like in this massive rebuilding and we've
- 33:37Speaker 4: been struggling so far. The year before we were one
- 33:39Speaker 4: and eleven, and so I think that was Game three
- 33:43Speaker 4: and we were one and one going into it, and.
- 33:47Speaker 1: He can't stand the coach toiled to the birth of
- 33:51Speaker 1: Arizona right now, coach is to listening to a coach
- 33:54Speaker 1: to speak. I love it's very eloquent.
- 33:55Speaker 4: But yeah, so we went, you know, going on the road.
- 33:58Speaker 4: You know, just the atmosphere playing in a place like that, Yeah,
- 34:02Speaker 4: the environment.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Who's your quarterback?
- 34:04Speaker 4: Our quarterback was Josh Love, who ended up being the
- 34:06Speaker 4: Mountain West Offensive Player of the year, so he was
- 34:08Speaker 4: a good player. But the interesting thing is it's quarterback
- 34:13Speaker 4: from Arkansas was Nick Starkle, who after that season transferred
- 34:17Speaker 4: and played for US and we won a conference championship.
- 34:21Speaker 1: That whole game he was like, I'm I thought was awesome. Anyway,
- 34:25Speaker 1: we're moving on. Good question, Thank you coach. When you
- 34:27Speaker 1: come in and as a new guy, does everybody want
- 34:29Speaker 1: to know, like what offense are you running with us?
- 34:32Speaker 1: And is that going to develop into more of what
- 34:34Speaker 1: you have always done?
- 34:36Speaker 4: I would say that's not what we did this here.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Lots of coaches are like that. I'm not necessarily like that.
- 34:41Speaker 4: I am always like, how do we get the ball
- 34:43Speaker 4: in our best player's hands and let them make a play,
- 34:46Speaker 4: whether that's a quarterback or running back or white out
- 34:48Speaker 4: or tight end. Like I'm always about adjusting the scheme
- 34:51Speaker 4: to the personnel. And so you know, there's been times
- 34:54Speaker 4: where we San Jose, we ran the ball excellent. There's
- 34:57Speaker 4: times where we threw it as good as anybody. And
- 35:00Speaker 4: so it just depends on just what we have that means,
- 35:03Speaker 4: and that changes year to year, and it really changes,
- 35:06Speaker 4: you know, with the transfer portal. But when we came
- 35:09Speaker 4: in here, what we did is we tried to adopt
- 35:12Speaker 4: a lot of the things that they did here coach
- 35:15Speaker 4: fishing them and the players did here before offensively and schematically,
- 35:19Speaker 4: and then and then married it to what we did.
- 35:23Speaker 4: So if it was similar, then we just called it
- 35:25Speaker 4: what they called it here last year. So we tried
- 35:26Speaker 4: to keep some of the languages saying for the players,
- 35:28Speaker 4: so we kind of put the onus on the coaches
- 35:30Speaker 4: to learn more than the players. And then defensively, because
- 35:35Speaker 4: of keeping in coach Keina, we're able to keep that
- 35:38Speaker 4: the defensive the same defense in you know, in place.
- 35:41Speaker 1: So have you fallen? I've been saying your left coach,
- 35:46Speaker 1: I think you fell He's got a wound, right, next
- 35:51Speaker 1: to what's going on?
- 35:53Speaker 4: So yeah, no, it was fourth of July. I was
- 35:56Speaker 4: in San Diego, and uh I kind of got washed
- 35:59Speaker 4: up on the rock surfing and uh so I got
- 36:03Speaker 4: shredded pretty good. But yeah, it was not as glamorous
- 36:06Speaker 4: as it sounds when I say it. It was more
- 36:08Speaker 4: like old man and but uh but but the funny
- 36:13Speaker 4: part is that it happened all my way out because
- 36:14Speaker 4: it's like high tide and then but I didn't know
- 36:17Speaker 4: all this happened. So I went out and body served
- 36:21Speaker 4: for an hour and I and then I got out
- 36:23Speaker 4: and I was bleeding everywhere. So I was just shark
- 36:25Speaker 4: bait all over the water. I was just chumming the water.
- 36:28Speaker 4: I had no idea when I got out of the
- 36:31Speaker 4: water and everyone's like, oh my god, what happened to you?
- 36:33Speaker 4: And I'm like, oh, yeah, I've been in the water
- 36:35Speaker 4: for a long time. It is bleeding everywhere.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Final five questions, questions. They are gonna be quicker, coach.
- 36:42Speaker 1: So one of the cool things about traveling around the
- 36:46Speaker 1: country talking to really smart coaches, huge programs, it's like,
- 36:51Speaker 1: we also get to me a lot of our childhood.
- 36:53Speaker 1: He rose like, next week we get to go hang
- 36:54Speaker 1: out with Steve Young. We're going to Steve Young's house.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Like Steve Young to me was I'm left handed. I'm
- 37:00Speaker 1: mentioned I played football back in the day. I'm left handed.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Young was left handed. It's like him and Boomera size
- 37:04Speaker 1: and on my two left handed quarterbacks. For you, who
- 37:07Speaker 1: was that when you were younger that you looked at
- 37:09Speaker 1: as an athlete? That was your favorite athlete.
- 37:12Speaker 4: When I was young Because I'm a nine Er fan,
- 37:14Speaker 4: so I grew up in the Bay Area, so it
- 37:16Speaker 4: was Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, and then I ended
- 37:19Speaker 4: up being a receiver, and so like Jerry Rice is
- 37:21Speaker 4: that guy for me?
- 37:22Speaker 1: See, hey, Steve Young will tell him, No, I didn't
- 37:24Speaker 1: even mention you. No, no, no, no, no no.
- 37:27Speaker 4: But Steve threw a million touchdown passes. Is Jerry Rice
- 37:30Speaker 4: like they were incredible to you?
- 37:31Speaker 1: Super Bowls for you?
- 37:32Speaker 4: Yeah, no question.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Yeah. But when Joe got hurt and Steve came in,
- 37:35Speaker 1: it was a tough time.
- 37:36Speaker 4: It's amazing though, because like how Steve handled that and
- 37:39Speaker 4: then continued to have a Hall of Fame career, Like
- 37:41Speaker 4: that doesn't happen only the Packers, Like that's just amazing,
- 37:43Speaker 4: Like really far Aaron Rodgers.
- 37:46Speaker 1: That's about it.
- 37:46Speaker 4: So rare.
- 37:47Speaker 1: What about when you got older, was there a player
- 37:50Speaker 1: that you emulated or thought, okay, he played a little
- 37:54Speaker 1: like I play. Was it Jerry Rice?
- 37:56Speaker 4: No, because Jerry Rice was good and I was not.
- 37:58Speaker 4: So yeah, But like you know, whatever position you play,
- 38:01Speaker 4: you're always looking at the guys that are in the
- 38:04Speaker 4: NFL that you think are are you know big time
- 38:07Speaker 4: that mcspecial ed McCaffrey. I watched him play in college
- 38:10Speaker 4: because he was at Stanford, right, And so he was
- 38:13Speaker 4: one of those guys because he was we used to
- 38:14Speaker 4: go watch him on Saturdays. That's a good poll that
- 38:16Speaker 4: you but yeah, and he and he was incredible and
- 38:19Speaker 4: then had a great career in the NFL of the
- 38:21Speaker 4: Giants and the Denver Broncos.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Right, I want to ask you another pick or four? Left?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Four left? Okay?
- 38:25Speaker 4: Four left?
- 38:25Speaker 3: Another picture over there? I saw you and John Madden.
- 38:28Speaker 3: What's what's behind that picture?
- 38:29Speaker 4: So that was cool. So Coach Madden and Steve MERRIOTCI
- 38:32Speaker 4: have a charity botchi ball tournament in the Bay Area
- 38:36Speaker 4: every year and then raise money for the Special Olympics.
- 38:38Speaker 4: And it's an awesome event. And so we would go
- 38:41Speaker 4: every year San Jose State Athletics and support it, and
- 38:45Speaker 4: so I got to meet coach Madden and I put
- 38:47Speaker 4: it up there because I always ask my players, do
- 38:50Speaker 4: you know who that is? Like all the pictures up
- 38:52Speaker 4: there for just like talking points, because the kids players
- 38:55Speaker 4: come in, they're like, what's that? What's that you know?
- 38:57Speaker 4: And and I'm like, do you know who that is?
- 38:59Speaker 4: And they're like no, And I'm like, you've probably played
- 39:02Speaker 4: that game more than any video game in your arsenal
- 39:05Speaker 4: and they look at me like that's Madden. Yeah, So yeah,
- 39:08Speaker 4: it was.
- 39:09Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 39:10Speaker 4: You have favorite book a couple, The Magic of Thinking
- 39:14Speaker 4: Big and The Slide Edge.
- 39:16Speaker 1: You read those before I got her today, actually both
- 39:20Speaker 1: at the same time. Yeah. Yeah, Why though, was like,
- 39:22Speaker 1: what about that have you taken and translated into what
- 39:25Speaker 1: you're doing now?
- 39:26Speaker 4: Kind of the premise of the Slide Edge is it
- 39:28Speaker 4: like what you do every single day compounds over time.
- 39:32Speaker 4: And then the Magic of Thinking Big is the idea
- 39:34Speaker 4: that like most of us don't think big enough, we
- 39:38Speaker 4: don't dream big enough. We just like kind of get
- 39:41Speaker 4: in our way and we're just like, well this is
- 39:43Speaker 4: good enough, when actually most of us are capable of
- 39:45Speaker 4: much more.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Two questions left. Yeah, I know it's getting down to
- 39:48Speaker 1: the nitty gritty hand. We got a culture question in
- 39:50Speaker 1: a music question, which want you like next? Coach music,
- 39:54Speaker 1: give me your mount rushmore a favorite music you're four
- 39:57Speaker 1: for your whole life that you would put as if
- 39:59Speaker 1: you can on less four artists.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, that is rough, tough.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I know what we do with hard hitting.
- 40:04Speaker 4: All right, Okay, so I'm a you know, my formative
- 40:12Speaker 4: years were the nineties, I would say, uh, and so
- 40:15Speaker 4: I'm a nineties hip hop guy, So that would be
- 40:18Speaker 4: some version of kind of n W A Tupac Snoop,
- 40:25Speaker 4: I know, picking up one that said a tough one,
- 40:29Speaker 4: it would probably be probably be Snoop and during that
- 40:32Speaker 4: time or you know, and that's stuck with me. I
- 40:35Speaker 4: got four more, three more, three more. Wow, this is
- 40:38Speaker 4: a tough one, Bob Marley, Yes, okay, and trying to think, God,
- 40:48Speaker 4: this is a tough question. You have to edit the
- 40:50Speaker 4: hell out of it. You get this media days, coach,
- 40:54Speaker 4: this is more fun. Exactly there there, I answered the
- 40:57Speaker 4: same question five hundred times. Let's see who's on my
- 41:02Speaker 4: listening to the most. I would say, like beach Boys'
- 41:05Speaker 4: Greatest hits and cause I kind of was like a
- 41:09Speaker 4: kid with my parents growing up listening to that. And
- 41:12Speaker 4: then I would also throw in God Pearl Jam, I
- 41:18Speaker 4: love this some kind of.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I mean, Bob Marley, Pearl Jam, Beach Boys.
- 41:22Speaker 4: This is my dude.
- 41:23Speaker 1: So yeah, snoop, snoop, this is my guy. Final question,
- 41:29Speaker 1: what's been great about the culture here at Arizona? That
- 41:32Speaker 1: is new to you? Right, every school has its own culture.
- 41:34Speaker 1: That one you have to learn. You have to make
- 41:36Speaker 1: sure you do it right publicly. What have you had
- 41:40Speaker 1: to learn quickly? But also you're like, oh, this is
- 41:42Speaker 1: really cool and different to University of Arizona.
- 41:45Speaker 4: I think the coach, Fishing and staff recruited a bunch
- 41:50Speaker 4: of really quality players and quality young men and they
- 41:52Speaker 4: are already incredibly connected. And I walked into a really
- 41:55Speaker 4: special situation in terms of like the team culture as
- 41:59Speaker 4: it fits. It's like big picture here in Tucson, Arizona.
- 42:04Speaker 4: This for the first time I'm in a place where
- 42:07Speaker 4: there's I've never felt a city support of university like
- 42:10Speaker 4: this one. Because the city is big, it doesn't feel
- 42:14Speaker 4: that way, but there's a million people that live in
- 42:16Speaker 4: kind of the greater Tucson area, and like how much
- 42:20Speaker 4: the city of Tucson cares about the University of Arizona,
- 42:22Speaker 4: how much it cares about all our sports programs in
- 42:24Speaker 4: the u of A is really special. It's a lot
- 42:27Speaker 4: of fun.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Coach. We really appreciate the time you. We like you
- 42:32Speaker 1: more now because your musical taste more than any And
- 42:35Speaker 1: in conclusion, if you want to use my head for
- 42:37Speaker 1: one time for one play, let me know. I okay it, yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 1: but the rights to it for one game, one play,
- 42:44Speaker 1: and I think that would be hilarious. I like it,
- 42:46Speaker 1: all right.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Let make sure it's a good one.
- 42:47Speaker 1: To dorky dive, dorky dive. All right, thanks coach, thank you?
- 42:55Speaker 1: All right? Where was Zach from dorm Dudes? We were
- 42:58Speaker 1: just talking about my football a second ago. And by
- 43:02Speaker 1: the way, if you're not familiar with dorm dudes, if
- 43:03Speaker 1: you go to TikTok and you do dorm dudes breaks,
- 43:07Speaker 1: they break sports memorabili Yeah, and by break, it's like
- 43:10Speaker 1: you buy a section. If that section hits, you get it.
- 43:13Speaker 1: We can tell you about all that later. But we're
- 43:15Speaker 1: talking about Miami, and so you guys broke a Miami
- 43:17Speaker 1: helmet like a Legends helmet?
- 43:19Speaker 4: Yeah, what was on it?
- 43:20Speaker 1: So?
- 43:21Speaker 5: Ray Lewis and Ed Reid were on there, which was
- 43:23Speaker 5: super cool for me because obviously two great defensive players
- 43:26Speaker 5: on there together.
- 43:27Speaker 1: You're a lot younger than us, so to us, we
- 43:30Speaker 1: remember that being young. But you didn't remember that at all?
- 43:32Speaker 2: Right, No, no, just remember them in the NFL, not
- 43:36Speaker 2: not on it.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Quite late in the NFL too, Yeah, exactly late in
- 43:39Speaker 1: their career. Yeah, that sucks for us. We're getting old,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I know, I know. So okay, so who else you get?
- 43:44Speaker 1: Ed Reid, ray Lewis? Who else was on it? If
- 43:47Speaker 1: you can remember?
- 43:50Speaker 5: I know there was a bunch of people on it.
- 43:51Speaker 5: And we've pulled so many Miami helmets it's hard for
- 43:53Speaker 5: me to say.
- 43:54Speaker 1: The Miami players. I think of the top of my head.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I think of Shocky, Jeremy Shockey went to Miami. Jason Taylor,
- 44:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I went to Miami. Okay, here comes Kevin.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Should you look it up?
- 44:07Speaker 5: No?
- 44:07Speaker 2: No, no, I think he's just like, I'm out of
- 44:08Speaker 2: this one. I mean, I don't have a guess awsome. Yeah,
- 44:11Speaker 2: Greg Olsen, Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, Will Fork, Oh god,
- 44:15Speaker 2: dang Clinton Portish Sean Taylor wells McGee. You guys already
- 44:21Speaker 2: said I think j mcgay is neat Jonathan Willma Greg Yeah,
- 44:29Speaker 2: that's why I said most of those two oh yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 2: except like.
- 44:32Speaker 3: But he but the way he rolled it out, it's
- 44:34Speaker 3: pretty smart. N looks real smart man.
- 44:37Speaker 1: He said. Most people, I said, he knew it. What
- 44:41Speaker 1: are you good? Uh? Okay, Yeah. So Miami used to
- 44:45Speaker 1: be legendary. Before you knew it, it was legendary. But
- 44:47Speaker 1: their fans are annoying because they still think they're legendary.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Well yeah, I mean that's a lot of fan bases
- 44:52Speaker 3: though they do that. It's like the Cowboys, like it's
- 44:55Speaker 3: been it's been a bit, and we still think we're legendary.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 5: I feel like the college teams, it's more they're more
- 45:00Speaker 5: we're partial of their team, you know, like Browns fans
- 45:01Speaker 5: in the NFL. We used to be good and now
- 45:03Speaker 5: everybody's like, yeah, we're not.
- 45:05Speaker 1: When was that? That never happens in cog Yea. When
- 45:06Speaker 1: were they ever going to except for the one year
- 45:08Speaker 1: Mayfield won a playoff games? Well, nowhere in my life,
- 45:11Speaker 1: but a lot Jim brown Man, but from the original
- 45:16Speaker 1: team that's now the Ravens back back in back, Bernie Kozar.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Back when it was championships not Super Bowls.
- 45:22Speaker 1: I barely remember Bernie Cozar playing back in the day. Yeah,
- 45:24Speaker 1: I just had cards. No chance. You remember Bernie Kzar.
- 45:28Speaker 1: You know who he is, right, Yeah, taw skinny dude,
- 45:30Speaker 1: kind of mullet and yeah. I think he was like
- 45:33Speaker 1: on the broadcast team for the Browns. Who's your favorite
- 45:35Speaker 1: team NFL Browns? Who's your favorite college team?
- 45:38Speaker 4: Ohio State?
- 45:39Speaker 1: For sure? Are you a big college fan or would
- 45:42Speaker 1: you be in because I think that part of the country,
- 45:44Speaker 1: unless you're college football in the Southeast, is worshiped. It's
- 45:50Speaker 1: as close as I would compare to like international soccer,
- 45:53Speaker 1: except it's not like our whole country we're rooting for,
- 45:54Speaker 1: or we don't go stab people, or we have laws
- 45:57Speaker 1: to keep people from trampling each other. If trash truck
- 46:04Speaker 1: is that the same truck?
- 46:05Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah, oh boy, get ready. If soccer is their fanatics internationally,
- 46:09Speaker 1: especially like World Cup National if that's in a college
- 46:12Speaker 1: football would be like a B minus. It would be
- 46:14Speaker 1: the most passionate thing with sports that I think we have,
- 46:17Speaker 1: Like Americans stored college football.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I didn't realize that until we moved to Tennessee when
- 46:21Speaker 3: we were kind of in the heart of the SEC.
- 46:24Speaker 3: How intense it is and how much it is a
- 46:26Speaker 3: part of people's lives. I guess I grew up with
- 46:27Speaker 3: it because it's all we had in Arkansas.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah, good point where you guys actually have pro TEMs.
- 46:32Speaker 4: Yeah, we do.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Lots of pro teams actually, yeah, lots of pro teams,
- 46:34Speaker 1: lots of actual lives to live. And so Ohio States
- 46:38Speaker 1: just like a clever of what's going on? Do you
- 46:40Speaker 1: hate hate Michigan?
- 46:41Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, I definitely. I think that's one of the
- 46:44Speaker 5: biggest rivalries ever. So yeah, I can't stand Michigan. But
- 46:47Speaker 5: if I had to go college or NFL, I would
- 46:49Speaker 5: definitely pick the NFL, just because the fact of I
- 46:52Speaker 5: like the lower scoring games.
- 46:53Speaker 1: And that part of the country is very much NFL
- 46:55Speaker 1: E and Northeast very much NFL.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Well in Ohio has was it two NFL teams? Yeah,
- 47:02Speaker 3: it's pretty big sneeze. That starts smelling like a trash truck.
- 47:08Speaker 1: We're gonna know, let's do favorite favorite college player of
- 47:11Speaker 1: all time? Oh gosh, because that you were not a
- 47:13Speaker 1: big college guy. No, I wasn't.
- 47:15Speaker 3: I wasn't, But do you have one. I'll say just
- 47:18Speaker 3: Ricky Williams because I got to see him run in
- 47:20Speaker 3: person as an adult. Yes, yeah, when I was working
- 47:23Speaker 3: for news and I was running the camera on the field,
- 47:26Speaker 3: never really what. They sent me to go do Texas games,
- 47:29Speaker 3: and they sent me because one of the guy was
- 47:30Speaker 3: sick who usually does it. So I was there on
- 47:32Speaker 3: the end zone and it was like, god, dude, it
- 47:35Speaker 3: was awesome. It was like he was there on the
- 47:37Speaker 3: three yard line and he just plowed through the line
- 47:40Speaker 3: and I can hear him grunt. I hurt everyone, grunt,
- 47:42Speaker 3: and he just pushed everyone like they weren't even there.
- 47:45Speaker 1: And I was like, that's so so freaking cool, Kevin,
- 47:47Speaker 1: who's you favorite college player of all time?
- 47:50Speaker 4: Got double mics here?
- 47:52Speaker 2: Favorite all time is probably and I hate USC, but
- 47:55Speaker 2: it's got to be Reggie Bush.
- 47:57Speaker 1: So again, you're not a You like college football, but
- 47:59Speaker 1: you weren't a diehard college football fan.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Not of a certain team though, But you would need
- 48:06Speaker 2: to be of a sin because I grew up around them.
- 48:09Speaker 1: So but again, you would need to be of a
- 48:10Speaker 1: certain team to be an extremely religion based college football
- 48:16Speaker 1: fan because that's what the religion is. Yeah, so you
- 48:20Speaker 1: can love. I love. I love the NFL. I don't
- 48:23Speaker 1: have a team, so I can't be like Eddie and
- 48:26Speaker 1: you do have a team. It's the Cowboys, dude, Just
- 48:29Speaker 1: embrace it. I did bet fifteen hundred dollars the Cowboys,
- 48:33Speaker 1: which will put me at twenty five thousand dollars. Embrace it, dude,
- 48:36Speaker 1: that's your team. I was really like teetering, and Eddie's like,
- 48:40Speaker 1: you can do it. Do the Cowboys?
- 48:41Speaker 2: If my dad texts me, he's like, Bobby, really do that?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Yep, I know it's so stupid.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Favorite college player ever Cardil Jones, for sure. He was wildome. Yeah,
- 48:52Speaker 1: he was awesome.
- 48:52Speaker 5: And my reasoning for that is, you know how the
- 48:54Speaker 5: coaches always talk about like next man up, and that
- 48:56Speaker 5: started out as a third string quarterback.
- 48:58Speaker 1: And won a national championship.
- 48:59Speaker 2: So like, come on, how can you.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Not like that? Read? I know you don't like anything
- 49:03Speaker 1: like hey read wakem you mildly like a lot of stuff,
- 49:08Speaker 1: but like you don't like love, love, But who would
- 49:10Speaker 1: you say your favorite is probably Darren McFadden.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Yeah, legend, because like Cowboy, we were doing all.
- 49:15Speaker 4: The sports camps at that time and had his fat
- 49:17Speaker 4: head and all that stuff.
- 49:18Speaker 1: So I'd probably say, but don't be what faad you
- 49:21Speaker 1: stick on them? Got it? Well, that's rude. Mine's probably
- 49:29Speaker 1: because they can't do I'm a debating between two. I
- 49:31Speaker 1: don't want to say them both because it's not fair
- 49:32Speaker 1: because then I get to claim them both. Right.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Probably probably Clint, like you said, Quinn groovy.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Quinn definitely was like when I was tiny young, but
- 49:43Speaker 1: I wasn't old enough to really I was allowed to
- 49:47Speaker 1: go see him play Clint Turner when I it was
- 49:51Speaker 1: like when I was seventeen eighteen nineteen, we were like
- 49:52Speaker 1: one game away from the National Championship. He had the
- 49:55Speaker 1: big fumble the Cossus against Tennessee. We lost the game,
- 49:58Speaker 1: didn't get to go play in the National Championship. But
- 50:01Speaker 1: for me it was Clint Sturner. But yeah, Quinn Groby
- 50:03Speaker 1: as a young kid was awesome. Which what year did
- 50:06Speaker 1: you storm the field? That would probably be ninety six
- 50:11Speaker 1: or so. Matt Jones chunked the ball in the corner,
- 50:15Speaker 1: jumped on the filmos, brought my leg, dragged my leg
- 50:17Speaker 1: across the field. Though there were a couple of times
- 50:19Speaker 1: that I stormed but that was the one where I
- 50:21Speaker 1: shouldn't have the other one. They just kind of let
- 50:23Speaker 1: everybody we beat Alabama once. I even got on the
- 50:25Speaker 1: jumbo tron before because I was in the end zone.
- 50:27Speaker 1: They put the camera on just the random crowd's face
- 50:29Speaker 1: and I was like, I was not known at all.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I just got lucky they put me on there, and
- 50:34Speaker 1: I probably ran on the for like five seconds before
- 50:36Speaker 1: the game was over because on the other side of
- 50:39Speaker 1: the field and I was in the other end zone,
- 50:41Speaker 1: So what's gonna happen? Yeah, So I ran on. I
- 50:43Speaker 1: just want to get a lead, and I did. I
- 50:44Speaker 1: got the lead. That was one of the first people
- 50:45Speaker 1: to play. It's awesome. It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool
- 50:49Speaker 1: over at Dorm Dudes. I wanted JJ Watt jersey and
- 50:55Speaker 1: I sold it the other day, which we'll have a
- 50:57Speaker 1: video of for like all in about close to two
- 51:00Speaker 1: thousand dollars. That's awesome that I hit from you guys.
- 51:03Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 51:04Speaker 3: And how much money did you put in to get
- 51:06Speaker 3: into Dorm Dudes to that one? Yeah, what was the
- 51:09Speaker 3: entry on that eighty bucks or something? That's awesome for
- 51:11Speaker 3: like the team, for like the I probably bought a division.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I don't know, but I probably bought like the AFC
- 51:17Speaker 1: South or something, right, yeah, probably in a bag. They're
- 51:20Speaker 1: doing this thing now where they give away ten thousand
- 51:22Speaker 1: dollar tickets inside the bags. Oh that's cool. One hit yesterday.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Really yeah.
- 51:26Speaker 5: One of the ten thousand dollars tickets hit yesterday was
- 51:28Speaker 5: one in every five hundred jerseys. So some people are
- 51:31Speaker 5: going to be very happy when they hit that.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Especially for like thirty bucks. That ticket you can use
- 51:35Speaker 1: just you get the money. No, no, it's your Oh
- 51:37Speaker 1: it's cash money. Yeah, dude, that's awesome. I've seen two
- 51:41Speaker 1: people hit it on dorm. Dudes. That's so freaking cool.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Like one in five hundred bags has a it comes
- 51:46Speaker 1: out in a gold bag. My TJ, my JJ. What
- 51:49Speaker 1: was in a gold bag? Yeah? Something I haven't seen
- 51:50Speaker 1: gold bags. I'm like, I just want two thousand dollars
- 51:53Speaker 1: because a ticket fell out, but it was like the
- 51:55Speaker 1: authentication ticket, and because it was like a game issue jersey,
- 51:58Speaker 1: like other tickets were falling out, like legitimately game issued.
- 52:01Speaker 1: It had us Walter Walter Payton Man of the Year
- 52:04Speaker 1: thing on this, and I was like, oh my god,
- 52:06Speaker 1: I want two thousand dollars and I didn't. Basically I
- 52:08Speaker 1: won two thousand because I went in and sold it.
- 52:11Speaker 3: And and they're doing college helmets too now right now. Yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 3: that's what we're talking about.
- 52:14Speaker 1: That so freaking cool. I did win the Joe Montana
- 52:17Speaker 1: Notre Dame. I don't have that yet though, dude, maybe
- 52:20Speaker 1: at the house now. It's so beautiful, but that one.
- 52:23Speaker 1: And I did win the all the watte Brothers on
- 52:25Speaker 1: the Wisconsin helmet. I don't have it yet. I just
- 52:28Speaker 1: want it though, but I want to authentic Tim Tebow
- 52:30Speaker 1: Florida Gator helmet. Dang authentic with Advisor too. The visor
- 52:35Speaker 1: apparently I haven't seen that. I didn't even see me
- 52:37Speaker 1: win it. Sometimes I'll get on and be like and
- 52:38Speaker 1: then I have to go, so I have to get off,
- 52:40Speaker 1: and then I'll go back and look because they put
- 52:42Speaker 1: on their Instagram, which is dorm Dude's breaks like all
- 52:44Speaker 1: the winners, and I'll go look and be like, come on,
- 52:46Speaker 1: come on, come on. And they had it up on
- 52:48Speaker 1: it one which one was the one where Kuran ripped
- 52:49Speaker 1: the shirt off. That was a ticket. Yeah, yeah, that
- 52:52Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars one. So yeah, you guys are killing
- 52:54Speaker 1: them inn Well, I appreciate it. Have you get to
- 52:59Speaker 1: who's the best sports person you get to meet?
- 53:03Speaker 5: Well, when I was younger, I always used to go
- 53:04Speaker 5: to a lot of games, and I would get there
- 53:05Speaker 5: at like nine in the morning and stand in line
- 53:08Speaker 5: to be the first one in the stadium to try
- 53:10Speaker 5: and meet the players. I would say the best person
- 53:12Speaker 5: I've ever met is probably Russell Wilson. Super cool dude,
- 53:15Speaker 5: that's super willing to talk. And this is when he
- 53:17Speaker 5: was like really really good with the Seahawks. So even
- 53:20Speaker 5: though they become Cleveland, they were playing the Browns.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Oh and he was so he was an NFL player
- 53:25Speaker 1: and he's still super nice. Yeah, wait, were you an adult?
- 53:28Speaker 5: I was probably fifteen.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 53:30Speaker 3: He always seemed like he was nice, like even not
- 53:33Speaker 3: not authentic. I don't think I never really got the
- 53:36Speaker 3: authentic vibe, but he seemed like he was nice.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Like he was cheesy, butte ever felt like he was
- 53:39Speaker 1: in authentic because I didn't know him well.
- 53:41Speaker 3: To me, when someone's really cheesy, they're just playing it up.
- 53:46Speaker 3: That's just my theory. But I've never seen Russell Wilson
- 53:49Speaker 3: like just.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Mean to someone. Well, I say, many people just mean
- 53:52Speaker 1: to someone.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Well, so I assume like when he met him he
- 53:54Speaker 3: was nice to Zach. I don't know, but is it
- 53:57Speaker 3: mean to just what I'm not just go to the
- 53:59Speaker 3: locker room. I don't think so, No, to just ignore. Yeah,
- 54:02Speaker 3: they just keep walking.
- 54:03Speaker 1: No son Like Zach went up and Russell was by
- 54:05Speaker 1: himself and he's like sign this and he's like, no,
- 54:07Speaker 1: you look idiot. Well, dude.
- 54:09Speaker 3: One time I was I was at a Rangers game
- 54:11Speaker 3: and Josh Hamilton he was walking the dugout and there
- 54:14Speaker 3: were a bunch of people like right above the dugout
- 54:16Speaker 3: asking for a ball.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Josh, Josh, Goosh, will you sign the ball?
- 54:19Speaker 3: Throwing in balls and he stopped signed one ball and
- 54:22Speaker 3: then he said throw me another one, and this man
- 54:24Speaker 3: threw him the ball.
- 54:26Speaker 1: He got it. He's like, not you threw it back
- 54:27Speaker 1: to the man, a doult Man, and he said the kid,
- 54:30Speaker 1: that's cool, the kid give me the ball. And the
- 54:32Speaker 1: man was just like, oh, well, okay. I was our guy,
- 54:35Speaker 1: Jeff Perlman who came on and told all the stories
- 54:36Speaker 1: I watch him on TikTok and he was talking about
- 54:38Speaker 1: how Josh Hamilton was one of his favorite people to cover.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Ever.
- 54:40Speaker 1: It seems like a wild dude. Well, yeah, no, he
- 54:44Speaker 1: was because he was addicted to drugs big time. Yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I mean that makes you wild. Yeah, drugs make you
- 54:50Speaker 1: do crazy things. Yeah, he was all covered in tatta.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Then he came back and good run. Yeah yeah, that's
- 54:54Speaker 1: when I saw him. When he came back, that's cool,
- 54:56Speaker 1: and he talked to you or just signed something.
- 54:58Speaker 5: He talked a little bit, and it wasn't a whole lot.
- 55:00Speaker 5: It was just like, hey, thanks for coming to supporting
- 55:01Speaker 5: all the way in Cleveland. But you didn't know I
- 55:03Speaker 5: was from Ohio, so it wasn't like a four drive
- 55:05Speaker 5: or anything.
- 55:05Speaker 1: But he didn't think you were like a make a
- 55:06Speaker 1: Wish kid or any No, So you don't think it's rude,
- 55:10Speaker 1: Like when no, they don't even reck, they don't even acknowledge. No,
- 55:14Speaker 1: I think it's rude if they acknowledge and then ignore.
- 55:16Speaker 1: I think it's better to just walk, especially if you
- 55:19Speaker 1: have somewhere to be. And I say this from from
- 55:23Speaker 1: a very very one percent limited version of this. If
- 55:26Speaker 1: I'm like doing three or four events back to back,
- 55:28Speaker 1: I'm doing interviews and someone's like, I will always stop
- 55:30Speaker 1: if I can't take every single picture all the time.
- 55:32Speaker 1: But if there's like a weird adult guy who I
- 55:34Speaker 1: know is like because they will bring pamphlets with pictures
- 55:36Speaker 1: of me, have like six pictures of me. Yeah, and
- 55:39Speaker 1: I'll be like I used to even be kind of
- 55:43Speaker 1: borderline late to things to stop and sign stuff. But
- 55:46Speaker 1: then I'd be like, who, don't make it to like, no,
- 55:48Speaker 1: just make a generic and then we do this one.
- 55:49Speaker 1: They flip the page and'd be like, oh, they're signing,
- 55:51Speaker 1: they're selling this crew. And so when that kind of
- 55:54Speaker 1: situation happens, I'll just act like I can't hear them
- 55:58Speaker 1: because I feel like it's rude of like, hey, hey,
- 56:00Speaker 1: you're like, I see you, buddy, I'm not coming over there. Though.
- 56:03Speaker 1: It's always the douche's that I because I'll never turn
- 56:06Speaker 1: out a picture. Yeah. The one time was I was
- 56:08Speaker 1: peeing at a journal though, and a got was like, oh,
- 56:09Speaker 1: that's too much? Can I? And I was like, hey, man,
- 56:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna finish ping. I'll meet you right outside. That's
- 56:15Speaker 1: a weird one. Can I take a picture while we're
- 56:18Speaker 1: what are you waving at?
- 56:19Speaker 4: Oh?
- 56:19Speaker 5: No?
- 56:19Speaker 1: I was doing the selfie the selfie oh got it
- 56:21Speaker 1: look like read was like waving anything too. So check
- 56:24Speaker 1: out dorm dudes breaks. They have a lot of great
- 56:26Speaker 1: stuff breaking helmets and jerseys and cards. Yeah, a little
- 56:32Speaker 1: bit of cards memorabilia for now. All right, I think
- 56:35Speaker 1: that's it. Thanks to Coach for hanging out with us.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Our producer has been reading Kevin on this podcast.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Job.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Thanks guys, thank you, thank you.
- 56:48Speaker 1: We're going to Dallas from here and hopefully we get
- 56:51Speaker 1: some cool interviews. We're kind of going in blind.
- 56:53Speaker 3: We're gonna have some cowboys there. They got to be there, right, like,
- 56:56Speaker 3: that's got to be there. No, why would they go
- 56:58Speaker 3: to the celebrity All Star Game because celebrities in there
- 57:00Speaker 3: in Dallas. They live right, they live right down the road.
- 57:03Speaker 1: No, no, it's not the All Star Game. It's the
- 57:05Speaker 1: celebrity Softball Game.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but but but if you bones there was
- 57:08Speaker 3: a softball game right by your house and you knew
- 57:11Speaker 3: that some Celebriti are gonna be there, you would just
- 57:12Speaker 3: wal if I.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Was close friends with some of them. Oh like treel
- 57:15Speaker 1: Owen should be there. Okay, well maybe they know to
- 57:17Speaker 1: you don't, but I'm saying he was a cowboy though. Yeah,
- 57:20Speaker 1: that's Dean Sanders should be there. Yeah, so if there's
- 57:23Speaker 1: Bryant we saw on the list, if they're there and
- 57:26Speaker 1: they give us a few minutes, we'll get a few
- 57:27Speaker 1: minutes with them. Okay. If I don't get to talk
- 57:30Speaker 1: to Dez, will you ask him if he caught it?
- 57:33Speaker 1: Just ask him you caught it, right, if he's playing
- 57:35Speaker 1: in the game and it's not. Guys, you know, I
- 57:38Speaker 1: don't like to be weird. That's not weird. And I'm
- 57:41Speaker 1: sure I never gotten that question. I know, but I
- 57:43Speaker 1: don't like to be weird. I already feel like I
- 57:45Speaker 1: don't belong, so I don't want to feel like I don't.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I got you. I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 57:48Speaker 4: He definitely caught it.
- 57:50Speaker 1: He for sure caught it. I want to know what
- 57:53Speaker 1: he thinks though. I think he caught it, but the
