- 0:23Speaker 3: five nine The Zone, ESPN. Tom Lougan Bill will join
- 0:27Speaker 3: us at eight thirty on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest Line.
- 0:31Speaker 3: We're getting close to camp opening. You're getting hot and bothered. Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 3: camp's opening. NFL College Football, high school. We'll be playing
- 0:46Speaker 3: high school football, you know. Madison Rigelaland Academy, Friday Night Lights,
- 0:51Speaker 3: Brandon Prep, Northwest Rankin Madison, Central, Germantown, Clinton, JA, all
- 1:01Speaker 3: of them rolling out the ball, you know, big time expectations.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm sure I missed some schools and I apologized, but
- 1:12Speaker 3: tried to hit a bunch of them. We'll have our
- 1:15Speaker 3: Friday night Lights are powered by Madison Ridgelind Academy. I
- 1:18Speaker 3: think we're going on year twelve or thirteen with MRA
- 1:24Speaker 3: and that'll be great. I never forget meeting Richard Dewiz
- 1:32Speaker 3: at Mint And we had another school that had you know,
- 1:40Speaker 3: we were talking to and I called coach Deuise, and
- 1:47Speaker 3: I was like, I mean, actually, I thought this other
- 1:51Speaker 3: school was going to take it. And I called coach Dewise,
- 1:56Speaker 3: who was the athletic director at the time, and he
- 1:59Speaker 3: just retired. But he then, you know, just the last
- 2:03Speaker 3: few years, he was just the men's basketball coach.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And we met for.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Lunch and he said, I want it, but we have
- 2:11Speaker 3: to go see Turmy Land the head of school walk
- 2:14Speaker 3: in done and that was it. They've had Friday night
- 2:18Speaker 3: lights for twelve or thirteen years so and won three
- 2:23Speaker 3: titles and played for a bunch of them. So and
- 2:26Speaker 3: had guys go to the you know, Sadique Charles played
- 2:30Speaker 3: at LSU and the NFL. Stone Blanton started at South
- 2:33Speaker 3: Carolina and Mississippi State, and there have been others, Davis
- 2:40Speaker 3: Dalton the Southern miss I mean, I'm missing a you know,
- 2:43Speaker 3: god knows how many dozen other players G five P
- 2:46Speaker 3: four junior college. But it's been a good run. But
- 2:49Speaker 3: just think they'll be rolling out. I mean, they're gonna
- 2:51Speaker 3: be playing before we know it. In high school. We'll
- 2:55Speaker 3: have exhibition games next weekend in the NFL because you
- 2:59Speaker 3: have to have it around the Pro Football Hall of
- 3:01Speaker 3: Fame game deal with Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald, and
- 3:06Speaker 3: Jackson told me Luke Keigley and Adam Vini, Terry and
- 3:08Speaker 3: Roger Craig and all these dudes going into the Pro
- 3:11Speaker 3: Football Hall of Fame that you got to watch on
- 3:13Speaker 3: TV and root for or against the overwhelming majority of
- 3:17Speaker 3: you rooted for Drew Brees, but in Larry Fitzgerald even
- 3:23Speaker 3: though he was off the grid the big part of
- 3:25Speaker 3: his career, because that was before we got all the
- 3:28Speaker 3: games every Sunday, So like a big chunk of Larry
- 3:32Speaker 3: Fitzgerald's career, you didn't really watch him play except highlights
- 3:35Speaker 3: when Berman and Tom Jackson would do him right.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And then the.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Last thirty percent of his career maybe you got him
- 3:46Speaker 3: a lot more. They did go to the Super Bowl.
- 3:48Speaker 3: They got their hearts ripped out by the Steelers. I
- 3:50Speaker 3: was for the Cardinals. I've always liked their uniforms. And
- 3:53Speaker 3: when I was little and we had that NFL game,
- 3:57Speaker 3: I just that was one of the teams, even though
- 4:00Speaker 3: they were they've been bad for you know ever uh
- 4:05Speaker 3: he was leeve they've been I mean them Cleveland or
- 4:09Speaker 3: the Jets.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I mean the.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Jets have still been to I mean the Jets have
- 4:13Speaker 3: been to two AFC Championship games under Rex Ron.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean, so would you.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Got the Cleveland in Arizona. Don't put them out there.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Arizona's been But.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Arizona's been to the super Bowl, that's right, which means
- 4:25Speaker 3: they've been to the NFC Championship game.
- 4:26Speaker 4: That's a great point, Jeah, I don't be missed on that.
- 4:29Speaker 4: They definitely made the playoffs multiple times.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, they had Carson Palmer and and then
- 4:36Speaker 3: they had Kurt Warner.
- 4:37Speaker 2: They had Larry Fitzgerald the whole time.
- 4:39Speaker 3: He never went anywhere else he could have he just
- 4:42Speaker 3: opted out, you know, he could have gone with the
- 4:45Speaker 3: team at the time, whatever that was. You know, there's
- 4:48Speaker 3: always four teams that are pretty good. They're Yeah, Fitzgerald
- 4:52Speaker 3: had there's no doubt that he had a couple of
- 4:55Speaker 3: contract windows where he could have left. Yeah, but he
- 4:59Speaker 3: and Drew Brees going in like they are big time,
- 5:02Speaker 3: big time good dudes.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah, they're humans. They're community guys.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Drew Brees and not that these others are not at all,
- 5:11Speaker 3: because I haven't I've always heard good things about Roger Craig, Luke,
- 5:15Speaker 3: Keighley and Adam Vin Terry. But Drew Brees and Larry
- 5:19Speaker 3: Fitzgerald and they went to losers, you know, I mean,
- 5:22Speaker 3: I mean they went to franchises that were not known
- 5:25Speaker 3: to win in Arizona, New Orleans, and Drew was. And
- 5:29Speaker 3: give fitz credit, he took him to the NFC championship
- 5:31Speaker 3: game in the Super Bowl.
- 5:32Speaker 4: So that is winning. He's not a loser.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And you don't have to win at all to be
- 5:37Speaker 3: a winner. But Drew drove New Orleans to places they
- 5:41Speaker 3: had never been. Yeah, and how many how many restaurants
- 5:46Speaker 3: opened up because of Drew Brees? How many condos were
- 5:49Speaker 3: built because of Drew Brees? How many renovations in beautiful
- 5:53Speaker 3: old buildings in the quarter Mariny Warehouse district, Midtown? You
- 5:59Speaker 3: know how much more was was Oschner's added on because
- 6:05Speaker 3: of Drew bre I mean the ripple effect of winning
- 6:10Speaker 3: like we see it in Oxford and start Bull NFL,
- 6:14Speaker 3: is even a gazillion billion times bigger. Like I never
- 6:20Speaker 3: thought that New Orleans could have the pop or the
- 6:24Speaker 3: drawl that it create. It that was created by Breeze
- 6:30Speaker 3: and Peyton. I never thought it would be that electric.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And look, as a kid, I went to the Super
- 6:35Speaker 3: Bowl and the Final four down there, and the hell
- 6:37Speaker 3: they they they hosted the World Fair in eighty four. Uh,
- 6:42Speaker 3: but but it's I mean, New Orleans always had some mojo,
- 6:46Speaker 3: and it was always cool and eclectic and and had
- 6:49Speaker 3: a great story and it was so many different people
- 6:51Speaker 3: and all that.
- 6:52Speaker 4: But like that, but who knew that it would get the.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Pop and and the electricity that was down there through
- 7:02Speaker 3: winning NFL I mean winning NFL games and going to
- 7:05Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Wow, No, I mean you talking about multiple bees they
- 7:10Speaker 4: put up down there.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:11Speaker 3: If I don't billions, I don't know if billions, Breeze
- 7:16Speaker 3: and Sean drove billions of dollars through the city, and
- 7:20Speaker 3: I don't know about a week, but over time billions
- 7:23Speaker 3: and billions and billions of dollars.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I like to I would like to know how much
- 7:26Speaker 4: to play.
- 7:27Speaker 3: We were just down there two years ago for the
- 7:28Speaker 3: Super Bowl, right, did two shows and went to Dyke
- 7:31Speaker 3: Prescott's party, and I went somewhere else. Somebody invited me
- 7:35Speaker 3: to something else, Remember what I was doing? That was
- 7:38Speaker 3: like the night before. Jeff Duncan was kind of enough
- 7:41Speaker 3: to invite me. There were three Hall of Fame voters
- 7:43Speaker 3: at the table that night. That was fun listening to
- 7:46Speaker 3: them talk about, you know, being Hall of Fame voter
- 7:52Speaker 3: Pro Football Hall of Fame voters.
- 7:53Speaker 4: That that was. That was a good time. As much
- 7:55Speaker 4: as I liked that Fits stayed in that one spot,
- 7:58Speaker 4: there was one move that he could have made he
- 8:02Speaker 4: didn't make.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Should I guess?
- 8:03Speaker 4: I think you?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Is it afc AFC well? Was it?
- 8:08Speaker 4: Was it the culture of the Patriots, of course?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okay?
- 8:10Speaker 3: So I mean I figured his contract open when Peyton
- 8:13Speaker 3: and Brady were in their prime, right craft, I mean
- 8:15Speaker 3: a couple of times.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Yeah, no, numerous okay, but there he wasn't leaving the
- 8:18Speaker 4: first time. And I think Palmer let him like down, okay,
- 8:21Speaker 4: because he loved Palmer.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Well, Carson Carson Palmer is one of the most underrated
- 8:25Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the last twenty five years. If he doesn't
- 8:28Speaker 3: get his knee shattered in the first quarter of the
- 8:30Speaker 3: playoff game against the Steelers when he was at the Bengals,
- 8:33Speaker 3: who knows what happens. Marvin Lewis didn't believe in scoring
- 8:37Speaker 3: points like a lot of defensive driven coaches, But Carson
- 8:40Speaker 3: Palmer was good. Then he got to Arizona and he
- 8:43Speaker 3: was good again.
- 8:43Speaker 4: He was really I think.
- 8:46Speaker 3: People kind of slept on how good he was. But
- 8:50Speaker 3: if his knee doesn't get crushed in that game, lots
- 8:53Speaker 3: of what might have been text lines, I bet he did.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Six oh one eight eight five three, seven, seven six.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Tom lougan Bill, National college football analyst with ESPN.
- 9:06Speaker 5: At eight thirty, We're a gonna dot it.

- 9:41Speaker 3: Cap it is definitely it's getting close to the season.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I feel that bite for messc fans out of bounds
- 9:50Speaker 3: ESPN one oh five nine.
- 9:52Speaker 2: To the zone.
- 9:53Speaker 3: You know, we kind of change our stripes, don't we
- 9:55Speaker 3: on on game days. I mean it's super intense. We
- 9:59Speaker 3: want to when sometimes we use the word hate dislike.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Oh Man.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Tom lougan Bill, National college football analyst with ESPN, will

- 10:45Speaker 3: Let's go and have I been in a sporting event
- 10:49Speaker 3: in a while? I think I have. I may be
- 10:51Speaker 3: dropping the ball. I'm trying to think last sporting event
- 10:57Speaker 3: I went to. Was it the regional game in Star
- 11:01Speaker 3: Have I been to anything since?
- 11:04Speaker 4: I feel like I've been moving kids around. Yeah, moving a.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Daughter out of state is a lot. I did come
- 11:14Speaker 3: to that conclusion. I miss her, you know, when she
- 11:18Speaker 3: was in Startble. I can see her all the time.
- 11:21Speaker 1: So, but.
- 11:24Speaker 3: I don't think I've been to a sporting event, my man,
- 11:27Speaker 3: since the regionals in Starbull. So that's around June one,
- 11:35Speaker 3: about two months all right. I guess my next sporting
- 11:38Speaker 3: event will be if.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I don't go to a Reds game, we'll be.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Mississippi State lineman Roe.
- 11:46Speaker 4: You need to go to a Reds game? Yeah, I
- 11:48Speaker 4: do need to go to Jeff Brantley has been texting me.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Red's Cowboy, Cincinnati Reds color analyst, Mississippi State, all American.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I need to go see the red splay. That park's
- 12:03Speaker 2: really cool.
- 12:04Speaker 4: The park's incredible. It's one of the cood I've been
- 12:06Speaker 4: in a couple of them, but that one's probably the coolest.
- 12:08Speaker 4: One I've ever been. Okay, it's it's you been to
- 12:11Speaker 4: the Reds, Yes, to the stadium.
- 12:13Speaker 3: What were you doing in Cincinnati? Do you even know?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Let me gets a cannabis conference.
- 12:18Speaker 2: No, it wasn't.
- 12:18Speaker 3: It should have been. It was a were you seeing Humphries?
- 12:22Speaker 4: I remember now it was I was in high school.
- 12:25Speaker 2: We took a was it one of your academic conferences?
- 12:28Speaker 4: We took a senior trip to Cincinnati?
- 12:32Speaker 7: Oh?
- 12:33Speaker 4: Really, is there a museum or something out there? There's
- 12:35Speaker 4: they got stuff?
- 12:35Speaker 3: I mean, I know they have a museum like we
- 12:37Speaker 3: have too beautiful several downtown.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But uh, what tell me? What's you know?
- 12:42Speaker 4: I mean, when you're in a class with you know,
- 12:45Speaker 4: twelve other people, it's only like.
- 12:47Speaker 3: This was this wasn't your three hundred and something people?
- 12:51Speaker 3: This mounts Okay? Yeah, you were able to get on
- 12:53Speaker 3: a on a bus, on a just a nice sized
- 12:56Speaker 3: bus and take everybody whereas if you had taken your
- 12:59Speaker 3: whole scene, your class and Clinton, you'd had to have
- 13:02Speaker 3: fourteen buses.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah, oh we didn't. I mean we took like a
- 13:06Speaker 4: three row van.
- 13:07Speaker 3: A cargo van. Yeah, took like a Mercedes Benz nishan sprinter.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Took two of those. Yeah, the dude, let me tell
- 13:14Speaker 4: you what I almost did.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Speaking of your road trip, and I hate to take
- 13:17Speaker 3: away from your story, but Winnie and I were trying
- 13:20Speaker 3: to figure out how to way overthought this move Wilkes
- 13:24Speaker 3: up to Washington, D C. In May, and so I
- 13:28Speaker 3: called a friend of mine who has a Mercedes Benz
- 13:30Speaker 3: sprinter van.
- 13:32Speaker 4: I was like, hey, can I rent it from you? Right?
- 13:34Speaker 4: He was like yes. I was like, all right, well,
- 13:36Speaker 4: Griswold this thing. Yeah, we'll get in this thing.
- 13:39Speaker 3: We'll get there and we're gonna We're gonna drive to Washington,
- 13:42Speaker 3: D C.
- 13:44Speaker 4: And as it got closer, Wendy Fi.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Looked at me one night and she said, we're on
- 13:49Speaker 3: the back porch, I'm sure, sipping on some wine. She
- 13:53Speaker 3: was like, do you really want to drive all the
- 13:56Speaker 3: way up there and have to drive all the way back?
- 13:58Speaker 3: And I went, no, well you get on Delta and
- 14:01Speaker 3: just book like yeah, and she was like yes, I
- 14:04Speaker 3: think I think we were booked in thirty seven seconds.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Smart And I was like, it's a boy.
- 14:09Speaker 3: All he needs is a bag, that's right, possibly right,
- 14:13Speaker 3: even though you know you have to wear suits every day,
- 14:15Speaker 3: oh yeah, which is a little bit different animal for
- 14:18Speaker 3: him or for me. I mean, I don't wear a
- 14:20Speaker 3: suit every day, but we didn't do that. That was
- 14:25Speaker 3: a good call. Yeah, yeah, I mean I think taking
- 14:29Speaker 3: a road trip in a Mercedes sprinter van is awesome, yes,
- 14:32Speaker 3: but it just wasn't That's not what I needed to do.
- 14:36Speaker 2: That was going to add another at least two days
- 14:39Speaker 2: to the trip.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, if everything goes accordingly, right, Yeah, that's that's
- 14:45Speaker 4: a dangerous ball game, right man. Louisville Cincinnati a number.
- 14:48Speaker 4: You know, it's about and a half out for teen. Okay,
- 14:52Speaker 4: go across the river, boom, Louisville. I'll be in Louisville
- 14:56Speaker 4: to Cincinnati. What is that uber ride? Do you think
- 15:00Speaker 4: that uber that's gonna be that's gonna be a tough.
- 15:02Speaker 2: One three hundred?
- 15:04Speaker 4: Oh is it that much?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:06Speaker 4: Probably, I would think so. I think you're right?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Or am I low?
- 15:09Speaker 4: What's the longer? I don't know, you may be a
- 15:11Speaker 4: little low. What's the furthest you've ever taken an uber ride?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Oh that's a good question, because how you went into
- 15:16Speaker 3: my account you saw I think I got five hundred
- 15:19Speaker 3: umber rides or something. Let me think how that What
- 15:23Speaker 3: is the longest uber ride.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I remember I almost ubered from Dallas.
- 15:28Speaker 3: To here or Atlanta, I don't remember, because I was
- 15:31Speaker 3: grounded what and so I wasn't sure if I was
- 15:34Speaker 3: gonna be able to rent a car and what's out
- 15:37Speaker 3: of side.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I'm getting home, I'm getting home. I don't care.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Okay, I'm with that, but I didn't do it that.
- 15:43Speaker 3: We eventually got cleared. I just remember texting Wendy on
- 15:49Speaker 3: the plane going I will uber home.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I will have to, yes.
- 15:53Speaker 3: But my theory was you could sit in the back
- 15:54Speaker 3: of the car for five hours and work.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Right, true, right, you're not driving.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I don't know to be I think probably just a
- 16:05Speaker 3: normal thirty to forty five minute ride, which that's pretty
- 16:10Speaker 3: I did go to the wrong hotel in Dallas one year.
- 16:12Speaker 4: That was pretty awesome. I don't remember what year that.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Was, sec Media days.
- 16:18Speaker 3: There were two different I don't remember where I was going,
- 16:21Speaker 3: but I ended up out in the suburbs at a
- 16:24Speaker 3: hotel the same name as one downtown. That was a
- 16:28Speaker 3: whirlwind from the airport to out there to intown, right,
- 16:32Speaker 3: but not nothing crazy all.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Right here this obviously I had to google it to
- 16:36Speaker 4: see these longest ones okay, a guy that he he
- 16:39Speaker 4: went four hundred and seventy seven miles. That's eight hours
- 16:42Speaker 4: of riding nice to The trip including tip was seven
- 16:48Speaker 4: eighty okay, and he paid for his own hotel so
- 16:53Speaker 4: overnight trip Uber.
- 16:55Speaker 2: He paid for the Uber guys hotel.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Yeah, seven eighty for five hours, eight hours, eight hours?
- 17:03Speaker 2: Got it? Okay, that's not bad.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Look, I mean that's two hotel rooms in an eight
- 17:07Speaker 4: hour troo for seven eighty. I think, Uh, it's not bad.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I mean it's not it's not it's not great, no,
- 17:13Speaker 4: but I mean I mean you can get a though,
- 17:16Speaker 4: I mean, it's fair enough pay for it. Yeah, wow,
- 17:21Speaker 4: that's not too bad.
- 17:22Speaker 3: There was some There was some and I don't know
- 17:25Speaker 3: if the story was accurate.
- 17:26Speaker 2: There was some story about.
- 17:28Speaker 3: An old miss oh yeah, student who was in Atlanta
- 17:32Speaker 3: and got an Uber to Oxford or something.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yeah, he fell asleep in the uber Okay, yeah, we yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 4: he's ah was that ever true? It was true?
- 17:41Speaker 3: I think it was like the Chick fil a bowls, remember, Yeah, okay,
- 17:46Speaker 3: that one okay, but that is correct.
- 17:48Speaker 4: He did he fell asleep. I mean, I don't know
- 17:50Speaker 4: what was true and what was it he put uh
- 17:53Speaker 4: Basically he was he had had a little too much
- 17:56Speaker 4: to drink and put the put his home destination in
- 18:00Speaker 4: and it thought he was going somewhere else and.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Maybe just back to the hotel.
- 18:04Speaker 4: It passed out and woke up. Oh my god, how
- 18:08Speaker 4: much did that cost him? I think it was eleven
- 18:11Speaker 4: or something. It was the eleven twelve one hundred. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 4: it was New Year's Eve too though. Damn that's a
- 18:19Speaker 4: verified story, is it?
- 18:21Speaker 2: If somebody can verify that?
- 18:22Speaker 3: Hit us up on the Dancing Rabbit Golf text line
- 18:25Speaker 3: six ozho one eight eight five three seven seven six
- 18:30Speaker 3: Tom logan Bill, National college Football Analysts with ESPN coming
- 18:34Speaker 3: up next, brought to you by National Lasagna Day.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It tastes Italian kitchen in the Renaissance.
- 19:00Speaker 5: We're all gonna die.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Unbelievable. Do I not currently have a pulse?
- 19:09Speaker 3: We are the out of Bounds Show, ESPN one five
- 19:13Speaker 3: to nine. The Zone, ESPN one O five nine The Zone.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I'm supposed to minimize this and do that, and I
- 19:21Speaker 3: just did that.
- 19:22Speaker 2: How about that?
- 19:23Speaker 3: Out of bounds welcomes in ESPN College Football analyst Tom
- 19:28Speaker 3: lougan Bill. He started at quarterback for Georgia Tech won
- 19:31Speaker 3: a National Championship in Juco on the West Coast. Twenty
- 19:35Speaker 3: years plus with ESPN. He joins us on the Farm
- 19:38Speaker 3: Bureau Insurance guest Line brought to you by Elijah Craig
- 19:42Speaker 3: Bourbon and your next GMC Sierra Truck at Fowler Fowler
- 19:47Speaker 3: GMC Pearl Brandon, Tom Lougan Bill. You saw the Elijah
- 19:52Speaker 3: Craig golf bag in the video, didn't you?
- 19:55Speaker 2: My man?
- 19:57Speaker 6: I did you sent me your YouTube video clip when
- 20:01Speaker 6: we were talking about the beer sneak and I'm like,
- 20:03Speaker 6: that's a pretty cool golf bag there in the background.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Man, I gotta get me a hotep of one of those.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It is sharp, it is sharp.
- 20:10Speaker 3: We may have to send you some Elijah Well, we
- 20:13Speaker 3: may have to send you the golf bag or some
- 20:15Speaker 3: Elijah craigswag. Speaking of Luke's, I'm going to Louisville, Kentucky
- 20:19Speaker 3: tomorrow to go pick out. We'll do three barrel picks
- 20:26Speaker 3: of Elijah Craig starting Friday, and then I'll come back
- 20:31Speaker 3: on Sunday, so we'll be bouncing around. I may have
- 20:34Speaker 3: to pay Jeff Bram a visit since he's playing one
- 20:38Speaker 3: of our in state schools. First weekend of the on
- 20:42Speaker 3: a neutral. I think it's one of the cooler games
- 20:45Speaker 3: Week one in Nashville. So and you were you and
- 20:49Speaker 3: I were talking about brom a couple of weeks ago. Hey,
- 20:53Speaker 3: do you think that they would let you drink a
- 20:57Speaker 3: beer in a college football game? No, I didn't think so. Yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 3: because it was a pro football thing.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Well, it wasn't even so much it was a pro
- 21:07Speaker 1: football thing. It was. I mean, that has something to
- 21:09Speaker 1: do with it.
- 21:10Speaker 6: But I think a lot of it, too is what
- 21:12Speaker 6: the what the product is. The product in that league
- 21:17Speaker 6: is about access, everybody being miked up, transparent y, parency, officials, reviews,
- 21:25Speaker 6: getting the fans engaged. So it's I think it was
- 21:29Speaker 6: more fitted towards the environment of what that league is
- 21:32Speaker 6: all about.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And leaning into all of that.
- 21:35Speaker 6: But no, I don't think they'd let me do that,
- 21:38Speaker 6: neither neither in the booth or on the field.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So when I know, we talked about it last month
- 21:47Speaker 3: that it was great, it kind of went viral.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Ours got our clip got hammered by the way on.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean it's getting it's getting all kinds
- 21:56Speaker 3: of of good views. Did you ever in your career
- 21:59Speaker 3: think that you would drink a beer in a fan
- 22:03Speaker 3: section while you were calling a game.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Luke's no, never in a million years.
- 22:10Speaker 6: And it's funny you asked me that, because several years back,
- 22:14Speaker 6: this would have been like.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Maybe twenty fifteen or so twenty fourteen.
- 22:20Speaker 6: I was a field analyst, you know, for ABC of Me,
- 22:23Speaker 6: Dusty excuse me me, Dave Passion, Greg McElroy, and we
- 22:29Speaker 6: had I don't know if you remember, the Taco Bell
- 22:31Speaker 6: liv MOS student section. Yeah, okay, so in every one
- 22:36Speaker 6: of our games, you know, we had to do something
- 22:38Speaker 6: with that as part of the sponsorship. So we're at
- 22:42Speaker 6: Arizona State. I'll send you the video of it. It's
- 22:46Speaker 6: pretty good.
- 22:47Speaker 1: We're at Arizona State and I had a bag of
- 22:51Speaker 1: taco bell.
- 22:52Speaker 6: I think there was probably two or three different burritos
- 22:55Speaker 6: and all of this and that in it. And it
- 22:58Speaker 6: was a night game and it was so it's one
- 23:00Speaker 6: hundred degrees and whoever one of our runners was went
- 23:06Speaker 6: and got the taco bell at like three o'clock.
- 23:09Speaker 1: In the afternoon.
- 23:11Speaker 6: Oh no, So I'm in the stands. We're doing we're
- 23:16Speaker 6: doing the you know, the promo. We're doing the LIVMATS
- 23:20Speaker 6: student section because they issue has a great student Section
- 23:23Speaker 6: and I happen to be standing next to this kid,
- 23:27Speaker 6: and I have the burriedo in my hand. I have
- 23:28Speaker 6: it all unwrapped, the top of it sticking out the
- 23:31Speaker 6: whole ninety yards and this kid's next to me and
- 23:36Speaker 6: he is hammered, just lit up. So the guys on
- 23:44Speaker 6: the broadcast are like taunt me. They're like, dude, you
- 23:46Speaker 6: won't take a bite to that brito because they knew
- 23:48Speaker 6: it had been there all day. And I'm like, of
- 23:51Speaker 6: course I will. So I'm up there and I grabbed
- 23:55Speaker 6: the brito. I think a big old bite out of it,
- 23:57Speaker 6: and I lean over and I look at the kid
- 24:00Speaker 6: and I'm like, you.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Want to bite?
- 24:02Speaker 6: And this kid takes the burrito and takes a massive
- 24:05Speaker 6: bite out of it after.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I did so.
- 24:08Speaker 6: I never thought I would do that in the stands,
- 24:12Speaker 6: let alone drink a beer.
- 24:14Speaker 1: That's for sure.
- 24:15Speaker 2: What you know?
- 24:17Speaker 3: How a few years ago you're uh, oh, and by the.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Way, real quick, not to interrupt you, that that chromo
- 24:25Speaker 6: on that night, Yeah got me on the Taco Bell
- 24:28Speaker 6: livemof Student Section Committee for the next three years.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah? They loved it. They saw it, and they went nuts.
- 24:35Speaker 1: They contacted my agent. They're like, what can we do?
- 24:38Speaker 1: How can we get them involved? How how can we
- 24:39Speaker 1: do more of this each and every week? And so
- 24:41Speaker 1: they wanted to get creative with it too.
- 24:43Speaker 6: So several weeks later, we're at Iowa State and they've
- 24:46Speaker 6: got like the T shirt potato gun.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 6: So I said to our producer in a break, I'm like,
- 24:53Speaker 6: what if we took a burrito and we put it
- 24:56Speaker 6: in the T shirt gun and we shot it up
- 24:58Speaker 6: into the crowd. And he goes, hey, that's not a
- 25:02Speaker 6: bad idea. Let's test it out in the break first. Okay,
- 25:06Speaker 6: we take this burrito, we shove it down into the
- 25:09Speaker 6: shirt thing, and I'm standing there on field level and
- 25:12Speaker 6: I shoot it.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And this burrito just blows up.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Into a gazillion different pieces all over like the first
- 25:21Speaker 6: seven rows of students that I always stay.
- 25:26Speaker 3: It was great, Uh, Tom Logan Bill sharing stories on
- 25:30Speaker 3: the Out of Bounds Show, brought to you by an
- 25:32Speaker 3: Elijah Craig Old Fashioned a Taste Italian Kitchen in the Renaissance. Okay,
- 25:39Speaker 3: Luke's yesterday, we did about two and a half hours
- 25:43Speaker 3: on Drew Brees. He's going in the Pro Football Hall
- 25:46Speaker 3: of Fame August eighth, and this is a huge Saints market.
- 25:51Speaker 3: As you know, we're two and a half hours away
- 25:53Speaker 3: from New Orleans. Yeah, we have a bunch of people
- 25:56Speaker 3: here who have season tickets or they go down for
- 25:59Speaker 3: two to three games year, and you know the Saints
- 26:01Speaker 3: pool from Jackson, Mississippi, Gulf Coast and of course all
- 26:05Speaker 3: over Louisiana. And we were talking about how if the
- 26:10Speaker 3: Miami Dolphins clear Breeze.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I've said this on your show before. You have Nick
- 26:15Speaker 1: Shabn's never at Alabama.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, think about the impact first of all that Breeze
- 26:19Speaker 3: and Sean had on New Orleans and as Brees said,
- 26:23Speaker 3: we were able to be a part of the resurrection
- 26:25Speaker 3: of one of America's greatest cities after it was devastated.
- 26:28Speaker 3: And then think about Saban not going to Bama, how
- 26:31Speaker 3: that impacts LSU over the years, Georgia and Mark rickt
- 26:37Speaker 3: Auburn and Gus.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I mean, you know, we could There's a lot of
- 26:40Speaker 2: stuff going on here.
- 26:42Speaker 3: And uh, it's just that there's there's the audio of
- 26:46Speaker 3: Drew talking about what went down when he was on
- 26:50Speaker 3: the trip to Miami.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Saban was coming off a nine and seven season.
- 26:53Speaker 3: So they weren't bad. They had a ferocious defense. The
- 26:57Speaker 3: offensive line coach there at the time had been Withdrew
- 27:01Speaker 3: at San Diego when he was with the Chargers, and
- 27:03Speaker 3: he got to go out on Wayne Heizinga's yacht and
- 27:06Speaker 3: have dinner and all this stuff, and they said that
- 27:08Speaker 3: they'd fly him every year to play golf in Europe.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And then he goes to New Orleans and it's six
- 27:12Speaker 3: months post Katrino and it's totally wrecked and devastated, and
- 27:16Speaker 3: so it's just fashing the impact on New Orleans and
- 27:19Speaker 3: Bama and the ripple effect.
- 27:21Speaker 6: Oh, it's unbelievable, man. I mean, it's not and I
- 27:24Speaker 6: mean just just the Nick Saban aspect of it. I mean,
- 27:27Speaker 6: you're talking about possibly what is, you know, largely considered
- 27:33Speaker 6: the greatest historical run in college football history never.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Occurring, right.
- 27:38Speaker 6: And that's not to say that somebody else couldn't have
- 27:39Speaker 6: taken the Alabama job and done a good job and
- 27:41Speaker 6: all of this and that, but I mean, I mean,
- 27:43Speaker 6: that's a massive title wave of history being erased or
- 27:50Speaker 6: being changed, and I've always found that fascinating. And the
- 27:54Speaker 6: fact that the Dolphins wouldn't clear.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Him, and then the Saints.
- 27:58Speaker 6: And you know what though, you know you kind I
- 28:00Speaker 6: always hear like things just work out the way they're
- 28:01Speaker 6: supposed to. It kind of did for all parties involved, right,
- 28:06Speaker 6: And then when you get when you especially at the
- 28:09Speaker 6: National Football League level, sometimes you just get these marriages
- 28:13Speaker 6: that were like meant to be Sean Payton, Drew Brees,
- 28:17Speaker 6: the timing of it, Okay, Bill Parcells and Phil Simms,
- 28:21Speaker 6: Bill Walsh and Joe Montana, the timing of that. Right,
- 28:25Speaker 6: The biggest one, maybe of all time is Bill Belichick.
- 28:29Speaker 6: If threw if Drew bloodsoe doesn't get hurt. Okay, does
- 28:34Speaker 6: that ever even happen? Right, because look at Bill Belichick's
- 28:38Speaker 6: record without Tom Brady awful, right, And so you just
- 28:43Speaker 6: look at all the timing of things that Kurt Trent
- 28:47Speaker 6: Green getting hurt in training camp and Kurt Warner stepping
- 28:50Speaker 6: into a huddle that has Tory holt Oz, Hakim Isaac Isaac,
- 28:57Speaker 6: Bruce Marshall, falk or Land no pace like talk about
- 29:03Speaker 6: everything being set up to succeed.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yeah, right, I mean just the timing of all that
- 29:08Speaker 1: stuff is incredible.
- 29:09Speaker 2: You know, uh, because.
- 29:13Speaker 3: There would have been so many more teams go to
- 29:16Speaker 3: Atlanta Lukes from the West, right, not that Bama would,
- 29:22Speaker 3: like you said, Bama may have landed on a coach
- 29:23Speaker 3: that went a couple of times, but Saban lived in Atlanta,
- 29:27Speaker 3: which blocked which blocked anybody else. I mean even Ole
- 29:30Speaker 3: miss Mississippi State had some hell of teams under Mullen
- 29:33Speaker 3: and Freeze. Yeah, and couldn't get there because you really,
- 29:39Speaker 3: Nick either went eight no at that time or seven
- 29:41Speaker 3: and one every every year, and so it was that's
- 29:46Speaker 3: what you had to do. Whereas there's been all these
- 29:49Speaker 3: years where six and two and five and three this
- 29:51Speaker 3: is before going to nine games this year, as you know,
- 29:53Speaker 3: but six and two and five and three.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Could could get you there.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Mm hm.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And so and you think of the East.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Like there's there's teams over there that were like, oh wow,
- 30:06Speaker 3: we could have made it further if Saban hadn't have
- 30:08Speaker 3: been at Alabama.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Oh absolutely Drew.
- 30:12Speaker 2: If Drew goes to Miami and they win.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, there's no question.
- 30:17Speaker 6: I mean, that's that's the And then yo, yo, you look,
- 30:21Speaker 6: we talked about you know, pairings of coaches and players
- 30:24Speaker 6: and the timing of all things. And then you know,
- 30:26Speaker 6: you've always heard me with scheduling. You know who you play,
- 30:30Speaker 6: where you play, and then when you play them during
- 30:32Speaker 6: the season. Those street things are very real. And I
- 30:35Speaker 6: remember when Missouri came into the Big Twelve in those
- 30:38Speaker 6: early years under Gary Pinkell, and they just had this
- 30:40Speaker 6: unbelievable stretch. But people fail to remember they never played LSU. Yeah,
- 30:48Speaker 6: they never played Auburn. They played Auburn in a championship
- 30:51Speaker 6: game and lost. They only played Alabama one time and
- 30:55Speaker 6: that was in the first year and it was in Colombia,
- 30:58Speaker 6: and Alabama hammered them. So like the scheduling that laid
- 31:01Speaker 6: out for Missouri when they came into the league.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Could not have been any better.
- 31:06Speaker 6: Yeah, Like it was just And to be honest with you,
- 31:09Speaker 6: had that not happened, would Missouri be what they are now?
- 31:12Speaker 1: What if they'd come into.
- 31:13Speaker 6: The league and all of a sudden they had LSU
- 31:16Speaker 6: and Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and LSU every year and
- 31:21Speaker 6: then they don't have.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Those successful early years in the league.
- 31:25Speaker 6: Do they become Kentucky, do they become you know, some
- 31:30Speaker 6: of South Carolina's down years, Like would they be what
- 31:33Speaker 6: they are now?
- 31:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Yeah, No, that's a that's a great question. Pinkel another
- 31:38Speaker 3: underrated coach out there, man, absolute that was able to
- 31:43Speaker 3: take less and win because I mean, then you know,
- 31:47Speaker 3: he and.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Nick were Nick Saban were on Don James or Kent State.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Don James.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and then yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, that's right, pinkl and Saban or
- 31:58Speaker 3: Todd in with with Don James and that.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Whole yeah family.
- 32:03Speaker 6: Then Pinkel ended up being the offensive coordinator for Don
- 32:06Speaker 6: James during those really good Washington years and that's what
- 32:08Speaker 6: got on the Toledo job.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay, oh wow, Okay.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Tom Louganviille, national college football analyst with ESPN on the
- 32:18Speaker 3: Out of Bound Show. Another topic that we had today
- 32:23Speaker 3: was two NFL coaches.
- 32:27Speaker 2: That modernized the game.
- 32:28Speaker 3: This was this was before you started at ESPN, But
- 32:32Speaker 3: when you started at ESPN just a few years later, Lugs,
- 32:36Speaker 3: you were a big part of their recruiting, right.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Peak.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Isn't it cool that two NFL guys and I know
- 32:44Speaker 3: Saban had been at Michigan State and spent a year
- 32:46Speaker 3: at Toledo, but mostly NFL guys, they modernized the college
- 32:49Speaker 3: football game. Pete, it's at Southern cal Nick at LSU
- 32:54Speaker 3: and what they do when they got there, they modernized
- 32:56Speaker 3: the recruiting and they modernized the strength and conditioning program
- 33:00Speaker 3: there at the same time. Think about the impact that's
- 33:03Speaker 3: had on college football the last twenty six years.
- 33:05Speaker 6: So they what they did is they started treating recruiting
- 33:11Speaker 6: as a year round entity that needed that needed to
- 33:17Speaker 6: be functioning as a pro personnel department. Okay, not just
- 33:22Speaker 6: your nine coaches handling player evaluation and then going out
- 33:27Speaker 6: and having to do it all. They created departments to
- 33:30Speaker 6: weed through all of that stuff before it ever got
- 33:33Speaker 6: to a coach's desk, right. And I can't tell you
- 33:36Speaker 6: how many guys there's probably upwards of.
- 33:43Speaker 8: I don't know, at least twenty twenty five guys that
- 33:49Speaker 8: came out of the Alabama program that started as student interns, right,
- 33:56Speaker 8: that would come over break down tape, and then the
- 34:00Speaker 8: director of Player of Personnel would train them, develop them,
- 34:04Speaker 8: bring them along, teach them how to write reports, how
- 34:06Speaker 8: to evaluate what do the coaches.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Want, blah blah blah.
- 34:08Speaker 6: There's at least twenty to twenty five of those guys
- 34:11Speaker 6: right now that are either directors of player personnel or
- 34:15Speaker 6: general managers for power for programs all across the country,
- 34:19Speaker 6: all off of that same model.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Isn't that incredible?
- 34:23Speaker 1: Then? Nuts?
- 34:24Speaker 3: Did Pete Carroll and Nick Saban walk into two programs
- 34:29Speaker 3: who were dysfunctional at the time, yes, and had not
- 34:32Speaker 3: won when you and I were growing up like they
- 34:34Speaker 3: should have in the eighties and nineties.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Well, SEED did well, they did in the seventies, but
- 34:40Speaker 4: in the eighties.
- 34:41Speaker 6: Even in the eighties they were still a pack ten power.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Okay, yeah they were.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Now they started to get into the Ted Tolder years,
- 34:51Speaker 6: Paul Hackett and Larry Smith and those guys. This is
- 34:56Speaker 6: way before Paul Hackett got it. And then remember John
- 34:58Speaker 6: Robinson came back for a second d And then that
- 35:02Speaker 6: was when I'll never forget. I can tell you the
- 35:06Speaker 6: actual game that led to SC going down into the
- 35:13Speaker 6: dumps and up until Pete Carroll got hired with a
- 35:17Speaker 6: fledgling program. I tell you right now, the Freedom Bowl
- 35:23Speaker 6: used to be held in Anaheim, California, and SC played
- 35:27Speaker 6: Fresno State, and Fresno State kicked their ass.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Now, on what planet should Fresno State ever be playing
- 35:39Speaker 1: with USC? Right?
- 35:40Speaker 2: Never?
- 35:41Speaker 1: And from that game on it was never the same.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Was that when Jeff Tedford was at Fresno.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Yeah, so Jeff Tedford recruited me out of junior college.
- 35:51Speaker 6: I almost went to Fresno. Okay, Trent Dilford was my host. Wow, Okay,
- 35:58Speaker 6: you want to hear a great Trent Dilford store. Yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 6: but you gotta have you gotta have the stomach for it. Okay,
- 36:03Speaker 6: you got the stomach for it. Yes, Okay, this is
- 36:06Speaker 6: a hand of God true story. I just won the
- 36:09Speaker 6: national championship at at Palmar College. I'm taking my recruiting visits.
- 36:15Speaker 6: I had just come off of mc state and Georgia Tech,
- 36:20Speaker 6: and I next up with Fresno and Fresno had just
- 36:23Speaker 6: had that three year run with Trent Dilfer, Lorenzo O'Neill,
- 36:29Speaker 6: all of those dudes, and they were really good. So
- 36:33Speaker 6: at that time my dad, San Diego State teams BYU
- 36:36Speaker 6: and Fresno were like the three big programs in the
- 36:40Speaker 6: in the whack at that time. And so I'm taking
- 36:44Speaker 6: my visits Fresno State. And really the only reason I
- 36:47Speaker 6: didn't go was because now you know, Trent was leaving
- 36:49Speaker 6: and going off to the NFL, but they were losing
- 36:51Speaker 6: all five of their starters in the offensive line, and
- 36:55Speaker 6: so Jim Sweeney's the head coach, legendary head coach, Jeff
- 36:59Speaker 6: ted It's the offensive coordinator. And I'm on my official visit.
- 37:04Speaker 6: Now we all know what happens on official visits, right.
- 37:07Speaker 6: I mean, if you've played this game, if you've been
- 37:09Speaker 6: around it, that forty eight hours.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Is one hell of a good time, no doubt.
- 37:13Speaker 6: So Trent Delver and I are at a TGI Fridays
- 37:18Speaker 6: at about two in the morning in present and we've
- 37:23Speaker 6: all had too much to drink.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Sure, and.
- 37:29Speaker 6: I'm supposed to have breakfast with Coach Sweeney that next
- 37:34Speaker 6: morning at like eight am before I head out. And
- 37:38Speaker 6: we're at the bar and Trent Dilver is leaning against
- 37:42Speaker 6: the bar like this. Now, he's got a bottle in
- 37:44Speaker 6: his hand right here. Okay, I'm standing right here sideways
- 37:49Speaker 6: to him. I can't see that he's got this bottle
- 37:51Speaker 6: in his hand, but he's got a bottle in his
- 37:54Speaker 6: other hand. So I nudged him on the shoulder. I said, hey, Trent,
- 37:57Speaker 6: can you get me a beer? Please fix up this bottle.
- 38:01Speaker 6: It's about half full. He goes, sure, man, here you go,
- 38:04Speaker 6: hands it to me. I think he's just gotten it
- 38:06Speaker 6: from the bar te me and I take it and
- 38:10Speaker 6: I turn it back, take about two to three big gulps,
- 38:16Speaker 6: and it.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Was his spinner.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Oh god.
- 38:21Speaker 6: And I've never been the same. If somebody opens a
- 38:26Speaker 6: can of coke or skull or whatever. If somebody opens
- 38:29Speaker 6: a package of red Man and I even get a
- 38:31Speaker 6: whiff of it, it is full blown.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Full body shiver, gagging the whole nine yard.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Oh god.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So fast forward to.
- 38:45Speaker 6: Maybe his like fourth year with Tampa Bay or what
- 38:47Speaker 6: have you, and to be down at training camp because
- 38:52Speaker 6: we were doing it at the time. I was in
- 38:54Speaker 6: NFL Europe and we're doing something at training camp and
- 38:56Speaker 6: Miami and Tampa are having a joint practice and I
- 38:59Speaker 6: happened to be walking towards the field and across the
- 39:02Speaker 6: ways Trent doll for walking and he turns and he
- 39:06Speaker 6: faces me.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Now I hadn't seen him in person since this occurred.
- 39:11Speaker 7: He looks at me, he goes, that is great.
- 39:24Speaker 1: No, it was not great.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Well, no, it wasn't great.
- 39:26Speaker 3: It's a great story. It's a great story. So you
- 39:31Speaker 3: know that was what you didn't want to do in
- 39:33Speaker 3: college when you were at a college apartment party or whatever. Yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 3: and there were beer cans or bottles all out on
- 39:41Speaker 3: the table or whatever.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you had to be careful with two things.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yeah, a spit bottle or can or somebody putting cigarette butts.
- 39:52Speaker 7: Oh.
- 39:54Speaker 2: I mean that's what you had to navigate at that time.
- 39:57Speaker 2: And you did that at Uh.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I bet that next morning stuff meeting with the Granted
- 40:02Speaker 3: you were we were all young and in great shape
- 40:05Speaker 3: and all that, but.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Damn I was green.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Yeah, that was not an overly enjoyable uh uh breakfast.
- 40:13Speaker 6: And then I and I and I remember a couple
- 40:15Speaker 6: of weeks later, Presno's in Hawaii. They're playing in the
- 40:18Speaker 6: old Low Hoppole and I my dad made me when
- 40:23Speaker 6: I made my decision, he made me call each one
- 40:25Speaker 6: of the head coaches and the area coaches that were
- 40:28Speaker 6: coaching me and tell them over the phone, which is
- 40:31Speaker 6: not an easy thing to do, obviously. And and Jim Sweeney,
- 40:35Speaker 6: who is a highly volatile head coach, like he's he
- 40:38Speaker 6: was old school. He was frank cush, you know, woody
- 40:41Speaker 6: hate like that type of personality. I'll never forget I'm
- 40:44Speaker 6: on the phone with him. This is before cell phones.
- 40:47Speaker 6: So my dad's standing in the doorway of our home
- 40:51Speaker 6: and Jim Sweeney is just MF and me. I mean,
- 40:55Speaker 6: he is laying into me, and I pull the phone away,
- 41:00Speaker 6: and my dad's standing there and he can hear him.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And he's known him for thirty years, sure, so he
- 41:05Speaker 1: could hear him. He goes, he's just shaking his head.
- 41:07Speaker 1: He's like, that's Jim. That's Jim. Yeah, that's Jim. And
- 41:10Speaker 1: he goes, don't take it personally. He goes, You're not
- 41:12Speaker 1: the first one, and you ain't gonna be the last.
- 41:15Speaker 3: That was good, all right, real quick, we got thirty seconds.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Who did come down to who are the last two?
- 41:20Speaker 2: Georgia Tech and who Arizona.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Okay, at the time they had that.
- 41:24Speaker 6: It's funny because, uh, Dick told me and my dad
- 41:27Speaker 6: were very very close and and Arizona actually slightly recruited
- 41:30Speaker 6: me out of high school, and I think they kind
- 41:32Speaker 6: of saw that I maybe had some upside to develop
- 41:35Speaker 6: and they were really happy that I want the junior
- 41:36Speaker 6: college drop. And you know that was during the time
- 41:39Speaker 6: of Desert Swarm, Yes, and those really good teams they had,
- 41:43Speaker 6: and it just so happened that I go to Tech instead.
- 41:46Speaker 6: And that's what we opened with on Thursday at ESPN.
- 41:48Speaker 2: That next week, unbelievable.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Tom Louganville's sharing great stories today. Thanks Lukes, we'll talk
- 41:53Speaker 3: next week. The Out of Bounds Show is brought to
- 41:56Speaker 3: you by Elijah Craig Bourbon. Of course, Lukes sees the

- 42:05Speaker 3: have to send me that bag and it is good looking.
- 42:08Speaker 4: We'll put it back on the set for the nine
- 42:10Speaker 4: o'clock hour.
- 42:10Speaker 3: You can watch the show on YouTube search out of

- 42:17Speaker 3: taco bell thing. Can you imagine trying to shoot a
- 42:19Speaker 3: burrito out of a T shirt gun into a student section?
- 42:24Speaker 4: Holy Mary olzab We'll be back in a second.
