- 0:00Well, it is a lively crowd. Tonight's at kaffe Or in Manchester for
- 0:03the final edition of the live edition of the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show with
- 0:08Gino Oriema and a dinner crowd. You get, you get dinner and a
- 0:12show tonight. How about that? And the folks are enjoying your dinner here,
- 0:16Gina. What's what's one of the more popular meals you have here at
- 0:18cafe or is there one one or two that stand out? I think it
- 0:23depends during during the season, you know what, summertime it might be a
- 0:30little bit different than than wintertime. But I think the veal dishes are are
- 0:38really popular. We we have a chicken parm that everybody's in love with.
- 0:44I know that. You know. Our chef tells us he can't believe how
- 0:49many and those people order, maybe because it's the size of the plate.
- 0:55And all right, who's got chicken parm tonight? You know see, there
- 1:00you go, the size of a plate. They come here on Thursday,
- 1:03they would have dinner and eat Thursday, Friday, Saturday. There you go.
- 1:06It's not big. It's not a big go no, no, no,
- 1:07it's not. Well, Gino, first time in a while, your
- 1:11team's had a break, played the last Sunday at South Carolina, then it
- 1:15was Wednesday at Xavier, Friday against Georgetown on Senior Night, which went exceptionally
- 1:19well, we'll talk about that later, and then Monday against Creighton, and
- 1:23then you don't play again till Sunday. The Monday game, though, you
- 1:26mentioned afterwards one of your more gratifying wins, just because of the fact that
- 1:30it was the end of the line and you could sense that there was some
- 1:33a lot of tired legs and maybe tired minds. Yeah, that happens this
- 1:36time of the year, especially, you know, I think it was four
- 1:40games in eight days, Yeah, something like that, you know, especially
- 1:45since you've been going since you've been going since sometime in September, October whenever
- 1:51it was, So it catches up to you right about now. So this
- 1:57break is really really good. These last couple of days have been good for
- 2:01them, and it's a favorite, best part of the show right there.
- 2:09Then then we have another week right where we have three games this week,
- 2:15say, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, and then you know, three or
- 2:22four or five days before we play in the tournament. So it's funny the
- 2:25way to schedule works. You know that you pack in a whole bunch of
- 2:30games in a short period of time and then it gets spread out, so
- 2:35the breaks come at the perfect time, right when you need them, you
- 2:39know, especially when you're dealing with a short rotation like we are right now.
- 2:44Yeah. And then after the Big East tournament's almost two weeks, yeah,
- 2:47yeah, then it's then it becomes it's too much time off. I
- 2:53mean, if you're playing well, you want to keep playing right away.
- 2:55You don't want all that time off. And if you're struggling in the tournament,
- 3:00in the biggest tournament then or you know, if you've got a lot
- 3:02of aches and pains, then you don't mind. But it's two weeks is
- 3:07a long time because there's never another time during the season where you have two
- 3:10weeks off, right, So yeah, but you know, if you win
- 3:15the tournament and you don't play until whenever that Saturday is or Sunday, whenever
- 3:22it is, you know, it doesn't really matter. The adrenaline because it's
- 3:27the NCAA tournament. It's what gets everybody gets everybody going. Anyway, back
- 3:32to the cranking game for a minute, you knew they would play much better
- 3:36than they did on January third. They certainly showed that with a lot of
- 3:39grit, a lot of fight. Moley Mogensen was getting a lot of hands
- 3:43doubling, Aliyah was doubling, tripled in the post, Nika got knocked around
- 3:47a bit, and once again though the third quarter, which has been pretty
- 3:52darn good even in a few of the losses during this stretch, your team's
- 3:55been really good coming out of the locker room. And they responded again after
- 4:00crate and scored the first five points and it was a thirteen oer run.
- 4:02When you conclude the first half, the end of the first half to the
- 4:05start of the third and then off you guys went, yeah, yeah,
- 4:09it's it's like we should start the second half first, you know that,
- 4:14then then we'd be then we'd be able, right, right, but we
- 4:20have we have it feels like we have two different teams, right. We
- 4:25have one team that looks like we've never practiced and never played, you know,
- 4:31we like the first half of the Seaton Hall game, right one in
- 4:36one Hartford, yeah, or the one there it's like eight to six at
- 4:40halftime or something like that. I forget what it was. It was god
- 4:43awful, it's a little better than that. So you've got you've got that.
- 4:49And then you had the first half of the Creating game where we just
- 4:53kind of stood around watched, you know, somebody play one on one or
- 4:58something, and then that third quarter where we played exceptionally well. It's just
- 5:04been really hard for for this team to be consistently one way, and that
- 5:14might be because the combination of that many young guys, for for freshmen and
- 5:21for seniors, sometimes it just doesn't mix very well, you know, like
- 5:28their mixed. Their signals get crossed, and they you know, they run
- 5:32into each other, they go to they run to different spots. They just
- 5:45this triple team, you know, So stuff happens that you can't really explain,
- 5:48and sometimes it takes half time for us to kind of regroup and go
- 5:56over everything that we that we need to do. But uh, when we're
- 6:00good, we're really really good, you know, as we've shown a lot
- 6:03of times. And when we struggle, we're our own worst enemy. You
- 6:06know that the Crank game, the first five minutes of the game, we
- 6:10threw the ball in the lane five times, and we didn't score, we
- 6:14didn't get foul, we didn't do anything right, and we probably turned it
- 6:16over more times than we got buckets in the first half. And it wasn't
- 6:20anything in particular that anybody was doing. It was just self inflicted stuff,
- 6:25which has really kind of been the story of this team throughout the season is
- 6:30just, you know, too many young people are touching the ball. So
- 6:34if you look at our team, sometimes when we just take everybody out of
- 6:41the game and only let Page in the leap play two on two, that's
- 6:45when we play our best basketball because those other guys they don't have to make
- 6:48a lot of decisions. Now we'll get Nika involved, obviously, but those
- 6:53other guys they need a breather like some like that. One of them.
- 6:58I think it was cute. I don't know what it was. In the
- 7:00third quarter or fourth quarter, I don't know. We came out at the
- 7:04time out. I said, listen, here's what you're gonna do. You're
- 7:05gonna go to this corner and you're just going to stand there. I've never
- 7:09seen a kid so happy in my life because she knew. She knew I
- 7:15don't have to do anything, and if the ball comes to me, I'm
- 7:16going to shoot it right. I have to dribble it. I don't have
- 7:19to pass it. I don't have to think. So sometimes you know,
- 7:23those young guys, they need that. It's que to a tea, right,
- 7:26that's queue to a tea. That's exactly right. That's who she is,
- 7:29and God bless her, you know. But she only shoots the ball
- 7:31when she has it, so other than that, she's okay, okay,
- 7:39more with Gino. We're here till eight o'clock tonight. There are no other
- 7:42games like we had the last time we were here. We had the men's
- 7:45game and Butler, but nothing tonight. It is just Gino and myself start
- 7:48of a busy weekend here on the network. We'll continue with Gino on the
- 7:51Wells Fargo you kind of women's basketball Coaches show in a minute here on Learfield
