Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Here to help you to get your day
- 0:07Speaker 1: started the best way possible, and that is by listening
- 0:12Speaker 1: to God.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I wonder if you are aware that God wants to
- 0:17Speaker 1: speak to you.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yes, not just to all of us, not just general truth.
- 0:23Speaker 1: God wants to speak to you personally today in your life.
- 0:29Speaker 1: God knows you.
- 0:31Speaker 1: He knows everything about you. He even knows the things
- 0:34Speaker 1: no one else knows. He even understands things about you
- 0:37Speaker 1: that you don't understand about yourself. God knows you intimately.
- 0:42Speaker 1: He knows what the keys are that are going to
- 0:45Speaker 1: make life full and meaningful for you. He created you.
- 0:49Speaker 1: He knows your nature. He knows how He created you
- 0:54Speaker 1: and what will make life come together for you. And
- 0:58Speaker 1: at the heart of all that is your relationship with Him.
- 1:01Speaker 1: If you want God involved in your life, you have
- 1:04Speaker 1: to deepen your personal relationship with God.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Talking to him and listening to him is at the
- 1:13Speaker 1: heart of that.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I want to take you today as we are talking
- 1:17Speaker 1: this week about why we should obey God in our lives.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I want to take you to Ephesians chapter 4, verses
- 1:24Speaker 1: 29 and 30, where Paul writes to the church in
- 1:27Speaker 1: Ephesus and in writing to those believers, those Christians there,
- 1:32Speaker 1: he says to them, Let no unwholesome word proceed from
- 1:37Speaker 1: your mouth, but only such a word as is good
- 1:40Speaker 1: for edification.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That is for building someone up.
- 1:45Speaker 1: According to the need of the moment so that it
- 1:49Speaker 1: will give grace to those who hear.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by
- 1:58Speaker 1: whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You know, when you obey God, it helps your relationship
- 2:13Speaker 1: with Him to grow stronger and more meaningful.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And God's reminding us today in this passage that our
- 2:22Speaker 1: relationship with Him is not just a way of life.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's not a Christian club whose meetings we attend once
- 2:31Speaker 1: a week on Sunday or twice a week if we
- 2:34Speaker 1: go to a home group meeting. No, we are in
- 2:37Speaker 1: a living relationship with God, and you know the reason
- 2:41Speaker 1: to obey God in your life is not so that
- 2:44Speaker 1: you don't feel guilty. The reason to obey God is
- 2:48Speaker 1: not because you have this sense of right and wrong
- 2:50Speaker 1: and you want to try and do what's right.
- 2:52Speaker 1: The heart of why you should make godly choices, do
- 2:56Speaker 1: what's right, obey God in your life, is to grow
- 3:00Speaker 1: closer to God, is because it's good for your relationship
- 3:04Speaker 1: with Him, is because you want to walk with Him
- 3:09Speaker 1: in close relationship.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And in this passage God is pointing out that when
- 3:15Speaker 1: we disobey Him, it grieves Him. It hurts His heart
- 3:20Speaker 1: of love for us.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And if we've truly made our relationship with God the
- 3:26Speaker 1: most important relationship in our lives, which it ought to be.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Then we'll hate to hurt him more than anyone else.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You know, in another passage, the apostle Paul challenges us
- 3:41Speaker 1: to keep in step with the spirit.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And God's inviting you to walk with Him today.
- 3:49Speaker 1: The only way you can do that is by honouring
- 3:52Speaker 1: him and obeying him.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I'm John North.
