- 1:23Speaker 6: News meteorologist Brian Hughes says the chance of scattered showers
- 1:26Speaker 6: and thunderstorms continue off and on throughout the day. Heavy
- 1:28Speaker 6: rain is possible when these storms hit. Not like an
- 1:31Speaker 6: all-day rain, but when they hit, they really pack a punch.
- 1:35Speaker 6: Temps are going to be in the mid-80s. Showers and
- 1:37Speaker 6: thunderstorms tonight low in the mid-60s. We keep up the
- 1:39Speaker 6: chance of showers and thunderstorms pretty much every day this
- 1:42Speaker 6: week up until at least Friday. Mid-70s for high tomorrow,
- 1:45Speaker 6: low 70s Wednesday, around 70 on Thursday, and Friday may
- 1:49Speaker 6: sort of kind of feel like fall a little bit.
- 1:52Speaker 6: You can download the Metro News television app, follow Brian
- 1:54Speaker 6: and his team of weather pros on social media as well.
- 1:57Speaker 6: Coming up, it's Monday, which means we get a visitor
- 1:59Speaker 6: of Danny Jones. Ashley Offerglance for the Putnam County Chamber
- 2:02Speaker 6: of Commerce will stop by. I'm going to talk to
- 2:05Speaker 6: Talked about a program that the chamber does with the
- 2:07Speaker 6: state treasurer's office each year. Also, I want to talk
- 2:09Speaker 6: to her about the continued growth and what's going on
- 2:12Speaker 6: Putnam County, plus more on our new programming schedule on
- 2:16Speaker 6: Metro News, which kicks in later today. And your calls
- 2:19Speaker 6: and texts are always welcome. Guaranteed Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony Vitale,
- 2:24Speaker 6: text 304-935-5008. I want to welcome to the show now
- 2:28Speaker 6: Dylan Hackworth and his fiancée Tamara to talk about some
- 2:33Speaker 6: stuff going on with the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department, their
- 2:36Speaker 6: upcoming program. Breakfast with Santa. And I say upcoming. It's
- 2:40Speaker 6: still technically summer.
- 2:42Speaker 8: It is.
- 2:42Speaker 6: You know that. We've got to plan early. All right.
- 2:45Speaker 6: But there's a reason why that you're here now. Good morning, folks,
- 2:47Speaker 6: and welcome to the show.
- 2:48Speaker 9: Thank you for having us.
- 2:49Speaker 10: So for the past three years, we've been doing the
- 2:52Speaker 10: Breakfast with Santa. It's something we've revamped with the Glasgow
- 2:55Speaker 10: Volunteer Fire Department, and it's something that's really become a
- 2:57Speaker 10: staple in our community. And it's actually growing outside of
- 3:01Speaker 10: our community. It's not just the Glasgow people anymore. It's
- 3:04Speaker 10: more of just an upper Kanawha Valley thing. And we
- 3:07Speaker 10: saw the need to start doing fundraising a little sooner
- 3:11Speaker 10: than later because there was something that happened in one
- 3:15Speaker 10: of the years.
- 3:16Speaker 9: I don't want to go into too much detail about.
- 3:18Speaker 10: It, but let's just say that it's a poor community
- 3:22Speaker 10: and there was a family member came up to us
- 3:26Speaker 10: after the event and thanked us for hosting it and
- 3:30Speaker 10: pretty much explained that this would be the only time
- 3:32Speaker 10: that her child would get to see Santa and possibly
- 3:35Speaker 10: get a gift. And we want to make sure that
- 3:38Speaker 10: everybody leaves out of there with something. Because the first
- 3:41Speaker 10: year we had, I think, 60 people. And then last
- 3:44Speaker 10: year we had what?
- 3:46Speaker 2: I don't even know exactly how many we had. We
- 3:49Speaker 2: had a whole lot more last year.
- 3:50Speaker 9: I think it was over 100. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 10: And we're doing this all out of our own time.
- 3:57Speaker 10: It's a 12-hour day. We wake up about 4.45 in
- 4:00Speaker 10: the morning and start it. And it's an assembly line
- 4:03Speaker 10: of food.
- 4:04Speaker 9: And we really.
- 4:05Speaker 10: It's really cool to see all the kids, their faces
- 4:07Speaker 10: light up when they get to see Santa.
- 4:08Speaker 9: And it's just, it's fun.
- 4:10Speaker 6: And what was the date again?
- 4:11Speaker 9: We do not have a date yet.
- 4:12Speaker 6: All right, then.
- 4:13Speaker 9: So it's either going to be.
- 4:14Speaker 6: Just drive around until you find something.
- 4:15Speaker 9: Pretty much, yes.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Years past, it's been.
- 4:18Speaker 9: December 6th.
- 4:19Speaker 2: The first weekend of December.
- 4:21Speaker 9: So.
- 4:22Speaker 6: We'll let you know.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 6: But the reason we had you on the show today
- 4:25Speaker 6: is not necessarily for planning purposes as much as it
- 4:28Speaker 6: is to. Know that if it takes a lot to
- 4:31Speaker 6: pull this off and you need you're asking for sponsors,
- 4:34Speaker 6: you're asking for volunteers.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:36Speaker 10: So basically anything that can help, you know, there's obviously
- 4:40Speaker 10: we have the firemen and the firemen's families and that help.
- 4:44Speaker 10: And we have a few older ladies that come in.
- 4:46Speaker 9: They've been there every year to help us. They love it.
- 4:49Speaker 10: But right now we're looking for fundraising, you know, we're,
- 4:52Speaker 10: we're asking for donations, you know, all that stuff goes
- 4:55Speaker 10: right back into the community. We're one thing we do
- 4:57Speaker 10: really well about fundraising is we're extremely transparent. We raised
- 5:01Speaker 10: money for the recent flooding and this was through the
- 5:04Speaker 10: fire department and immediately posted the receipts of everything we bought.
- 5:07Speaker 10: You know, we, that's really important in the public eyes.
- 5:10Speaker 10: Where's that funding going? And we've already had a few
- 5:13Speaker 10: people agree to fundraising. Tony, the Taylor, I'm actually going
- 5:17Speaker 10: to go see him.
- 5:18Speaker 9: In a minute.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Sorry about your luck.
- 5:20Speaker 10: Appalachian Outlaw Trails, they have agreed. And Teresa Howe, they've
- 5:24Speaker 10: all been real big supporters of this. And it really
- 5:29Speaker 10: is a big thing for the kids.
- 5:31Speaker 6: And how many years has this been going on?
- 5:32Speaker 10: Well, we used to do it back in the 90s.
- 5:35Speaker 10: And it went on for about, I'd say, 25 years.
- 5:38Speaker 10: And then it just, as anything, it kind of trickles off.
- 5:41Speaker 10: And I would say it started in the 80s. And
- 5:43Speaker 10: we decided, hey, we want to do this again. So
- 5:47Speaker 10: we started it about three years ago, and the first
- 5:49Speaker 10: year we did it at the fire department, and it
- 5:51Speaker 10: was a hit. And then we're like, okay, the fire
- 5:54Speaker 10: department isn't big enough for this. So then we did
- 5:56Speaker 10: the Glasgow, and we extended the times because people, they
- 5:59Speaker 10: come in waves. So we now cook at the fire
- 6:03Speaker 10: department to be able to feed the people at the
- 6:05Speaker 10: Glasgow Senior Center, which is located on the corner of
- 6:09Speaker 10: Fifth Avenue and First Street in Glasgow. So it's, you
- 6:13Speaker 10: got runners, you have cookers, you have feeders. You have cleaners.
- 6:17Speaker 10: It's a lot of it goes into it and it's
- 6:20Speaker 10: just fun.
- 6:21Speaker 6: What kind of food are we talking about here?
- 6:23Speaker 9: Pancakes. Okay.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Pancakes and sausage. And we usually have milk, orange juice,
- 6:30Speaker 2: all that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:31Speaker 10: Everything is pretty much local. We, United Dairy always helps
- 6:35Speaker 10: us out. We get stuff from them. Our assistant chief
- 6:38Speaker 10: has a phenomenal pancake recipe.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's, He does always have to make me chocolate chiplets.
- 6:45Speaker 10: Yes, Tamara will go out the night before and get
- 6:47Speaker 10: chocolate chips just for these pancakes, even though she's not
- 6:49Speaker 10: a child.
- 6:52Speaker 9: At heart.
- 6:52Speaker 6: She's engaged to one.
- 6:54Speaker 9: That's true.
- 6:54Speaker 6: I'll go ahead and throw that in there for you. But,
- 6:58Speaker 6: I mean, this thing is, like I said, fantastic. This
- 7:01Speaker 6: is not us trying to force the season or anything
- 7:03Speaker 6: like that. It takes a lot of planning to pull
- 7:05Speaker 6: these things off, and it takes money. I mean, it
- 7:07Speaker 6: takes money, and it takes donations. So sometimes it's not
- 7:10Speaker 6: just donations of money. It could be donations of toys.
- 7:14Speaker 6: It could be donations of time because, again, you need volunteers.
- 7:18Speaker 10: Coloring books for kids to color on while we're there.
- 7:21Speaker 10: And see, that's one thing that's hard with the fire
- 7:23Speaker 10: service is obviously every fire department in the state gets
- 7:26Speaker 10: state funding. But it is very, it's watched what you
- 7:31Speaker 10: do with that money. And a lot of times you
- 7:33Speaker 10: can't take that money and turn around to give it
- 7:37Speaker 10: to the public in a Breakfast with Santa setting. So
- 7:40Speaker 10: all of it is mainly just fundraising through us, donations.
- 7:44Speaker 10: Ergon up in London, West Virginia, it's Houston, they donated
- 7:49Speaker 10: a pretty good chunk of change for us. And it's
- 7:52Speaker 10: hitting those local communities. But then we're like, okay, well,
- 7:55Speaker 10: we have people coming from all over the eastern Kanawha County,
- 7:59Speaker 10: let's expand. You know, there might be somebody that comes
- 8:02Speaker 10: from Putnam County.
- 8:03Speaker 9: Who knows?
- 8:04Speaker 10: It's just there's not that many events anymore for children
- 8:07Speaker 10: with the breakfast of Santa around here.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's what we want to make sure that even,
- 8:11Speaker 6: you know, Glasgow is a very small community, but this
- 8:13Speaker 6: is not just the kids of Glasgow you're taking care of.
- 8:16Speaker 6: This is, as you said, from the surrounding communities all
- 8:18Speaker 6: over Kanawha County, maybe other counties as well.
- 8:20Speaker 10: Yeah, and, you know, we encourage anybody to come. What
- 8:24Speaker 10: we do is we do have tickets available. tickets are
- 8:27Speaker 10: obviously free, but it gives us an idea of material.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Sure.
- 8:31Speaker 9: How many tickets we give out, how many materials.
- 8:34Speaker 6: That's the way that we do with our trick or beat,
- 8:36Speaker 6: you know, thing, because it's coming up here in a
- 8:38Speaker 6: couple of weeks over at the ballpark with 107.3 The Beat.
- 8:41Speaker 6: And people say, well, why do you have tickets if
- 8:43Speaker 6: it's a free event? Because it's a head count kind
- 8:45Speaker 6: of thing. And every year we can only have so
- 8:47Speaker 6: many people in there. We do two sessions and it
- 8:49Speaker 6: quote unquote sells out. We're out of tickets.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:52Speaker 10: And one thing we do is we always have extra tickets.
- 8:55Speaker 10: We always have whoever's man in the door always has
- 8:57Speaker 10: 50 extra tickets in their pocket just in case the
- 9:00Speaker 10: family is like, we just heard about this today.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Yeah, we're not going to turn anybody away.
- 9:03Speaker 10: No, absolutely not. Because, you know, Eastern Canal County, like
- 9:08Speaker 10: I said before, everybody struggles. And Christmas time, it gets tight.
- 9:13Speaker 10: So if we can help that one family who can't afford.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Take their kid to see Santa and we can.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Have Santa.
- 9:21Speaker 10: We have a photographer set up with Santa with a
- 9:24Speaker 10: nice backdrop.
- 9:25Speaker 9: So it helps.
- 9:26Speaker 6: As soon as you get the date, we'll have you back.
- 9:28Speaker 9: 100 percent.
- 9:29Speaker 10: And follow the Facebook, the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department Facebook.
- 9:34Speaker 10: We're really big on posting on there. Follow the Hackworth
- 9:36Speaker 10: Fire Collection. You know, we post everything because that is
- 9:39Speaker 10: our home fire department. And even as us as Hackworth
- 9:42Speaker 10: Fire Department, we're using Hackworth Fire Collection. We're using our
- 9:45Speaker 10: platform to try to boost this. We're doing a raffle
- 9:49Speaker 10: selling tickets for just, you get a pair of wildland gloves,
- 9:53Speaker 10: a koozie, coaster set, a tumbler, stickers of all, every
- 9:58Speaker 10: sticker we've ever made for Hackworth.
- 10:00Speaker 9: Fire Collection.
- 10:00Speaker 10: And we've sold, what, almost $ 100 worth of tickets now,
- 10:04Speaker 10: which that's phenomenal.
- 10:06Speaker 9: And somebody will win that.
- 10:07Speaker 10: And everybody who's bought tickets for that has been like,
- 10:11Speaker 10: you can give the stuff to somebody else.
- 10:13Speaker 9: We just want to help the kids. And that's what
- 10:15Speaker 9: it's all about.
- 10:15Speaker 6: That's what we do here. All right, so tell us, again,
- 10:19Speaker 6: if people are listening right now and they say this
- 10:21Speaker 6: sounds like a really cool thing, I want to get
- 10:24Speaker 6: a check out to you, I want to donate something,
- 10:25Speaker 6: how do they get in touch with you?
- 10:26Speaker 10: Best way to get in touch with us is through
- 10:28Speaker 10: our Facebook at Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department. Make sure you're
- 10:32Speaker 10: messaging the West Virginia one, not the Virginia or Kentucky
- 10:35Speaker 10: Fire Department.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Or the Scotland one.
- 10:37Speaker 9: Yeah, it does happen.
- 10:38Speaker 11: It does.
- 10:39Speaker 9: It happens a lot.
- 10:41Speaker 10: We are at our fire department on Mondays at 6 p.m.,
- 10:44Speaker 10: so we'll be there this evening for drill. You can
- 10:47Speaker 10: try to call the fire department. Obviously, we're volunteers, so
- 10:49Speaker 10: we're not manned all the time. But the main thing
- 10:52Speaker 10: is to get us on Facebook or even message you,
- 10:55Speaker 10: and you can get a hold of me.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely. All right, Dylan Hackworth, I've got to ask
- 10:59Speaker 6: you quickly, how's the Hackworth Fire Collection thing going?
- 11:02Speaker 9: Phenomenal.
- 11:04Speaker 6: Give me, we're going to get about 45 seconds here,
- 11:07Speaker 6: give me the synopsis of what it is for people
- 11:09Speaker 6: that may be listening to you.
- 11:10Speaker 10: So Hackworth Fire Collection is the first state entity to
- 11:13Speaker 10: preserve West Virginia fire and EMS history. And we just
- 11:17Speaker 10: uncovered a lot of history on something that was under
- 11:20Speaker 10: our nose. And go to our page and find that out.
- 11:24Speaker 9: All right.
- 11:24Speaker 6: You're a little teaser right there.
- 11:25Speaker 3: That is.
- 11:25Speaker 7: All right.
- 11:26Speaker 6: And you are actually going to be making a return
- 11:28Speaker 6: appearance on Midday Today about something totally different.
- 11:31Speaker 9: Completely different.
- 11:32Speaker 6: You need a booking agent, man.
- 11:33Speaker 10: Well, I'm going to go over here and get a
- 11:35Speaker 10: suit tailored by Tony the Tailor and get a check.
- 11:37Speaker 9: For the kids.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Get your old man off of his backside and tell
- 11:40Speaker 6: him he needs to go to work for you.
- 11:40Speaker 9: I didn't even work today.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Of course you didn't.
- 11:43Speaker 8: No.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I'm kidding.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Bum.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I'm kidding. We're friends, me and his dad, believe it
- 11:46Speaker 6: or not. Hey, Dylan and Tamara, I appreciate you both
- 11:49Speaker 6: being here. Thanks a lot. Thank you for having us.

- 11:54Speaker 6: date solidified. Appreciate you guys being here.

- 15:08Speaker 6: little bit later on. I want to welcome in now
- 15:09Speaker 6: Ashley Offord-Glantz, Executive Director of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 15:14Speaker 6: Welcome to the show.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me.
- 15:18Speaker 6: Get a life. I have been told that many times before,
- 15:21Speaker 6: many times by you I have been told to get
- 15:23Speaker 6: a life. Tell us about this Get a Life program.
- 15:27Speaker 5: I don't think I've told you to get a life.
- 15:29Speaker 6: I think you have, but go ahead.
- 15:31Speaker 7: That's okay.
- 15:33Speaker 5: It was in your best interest. We are partnering again
- 15:37Speaker 5: with the West Virginia Treasurer's Office as well as Putnam
- 15:41Speaker 5: County Schools to bring the Get a Life program to
- 15:44Speaker 5: all eighth grade students here in Putnam County. And we're
- 15:47Speaker 5: really excited about this. This is a budgeting simulator. So
- 15:50Speaker 5: all of our eighth grade students are going to be
- 15:52Speaker 5: joining us this week. They're going to be going through
- 15:55Speaker 5: a simulated program. budgeting workshop where they'll be given a
- 16:01Speaker 5: career with a salary and they're going to need to
- 16:04Speaker 5: buy a house, a car, get utilities, gas for that car,
- 16:08Speaker 5: groceries for their family, and all capture that on a
- 16:12Speaker 5: budget sheet. and learn really what it's like to be
- 16:17Speaker 5: an adult. So we're excited about that. Our chamber member
- 16:20Speaker 5: volunteers are going to be with us for the two days,
- 16:22Speaker 5: helping and leading the students through the simulator. And yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 5: that's that.
- 16:28Speaker 6: It's really a cool program, and I've had an opportunity
- 16:30Speaker 6: to help you out with this in the past as
- 16:32Speaker 6: a volunteer. And so basically, and let me just kind
- 16:35Speaker 6: of break it down, though, unless it's changed since when
- 16:37Speaker 6: I did it, basically the way it happens is Every
- 16:39Speaker 6: student that comes to this thing, they get a life,
- 16:42Speaker 6: so to speak. And they're told this is how much
- 16:45Speaker 6: money you make. And some are going to be making
- 16:48Speaker 6: six figures. Some may only be making $ 25, 000, $ 30, 000 a
- 16:50Speaker 6: year or whatever the case is. And they tell them,
- 16:54Speaker 6: they say, okay, you have a wife and three kids.
- 16:59Speaker 6: You are a single mom. You don't have kids. You're
- 17:02Speaker 6: single or you're married without kids or whatever. And they
- 17:06Speaker 6: have to go buy these things. They have to go
- 17:08Speaker 6: buy in the simulator. They have to go buy insurance.
- 17:10Speaker 6: They have to go buy a car. They have to
- 17:12Speaker 6: get a house. And it's so interesting to me watching
- 17:16Speaker 6: the differences when I've done this in the past, Ashley.
- 17:19Speaker 6: with the way that the boys approach it and the
- 17:22Speaker 6: way that, and there's some exceptions, but the way that
- 17:24Speaker 6: the boys approach it and the way the girls approach it, okay?
- 17:27Speaker 6: Because a lot of the, at least in the past,
- 17:29Speaker 6: and I know there's some exceptions, those guys are like, yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 6: I want the Maserati. You know, I want the Benz.
- 17:35Speaker 6: They're making $ 20, 000 a year in their life, but they say,
- 17:36Speaker 6: I want the $ 2, 000 car payment.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. You know, it is a real life lesson
- 17:45Speaker 5: for the kids. They're really excited and, you know, they're handed,
- 17:50Speaker 5: you know, right up to a car dealership and get
- 17:52Speaker 5: whatever they want. So, of course, they always, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 5: try to use that opportunity to purchase that dream car.
- 17:58Speaker 5: And so they can do so. And, you know, it
- 18:03Speaker 5: is a lot of fun to go through this with
- 18:07Speaker 5: the students to see, you know, Some of them are
- 18:10Speaker 5: very budget conscious and some of them spend every dollar
- 18:13Speaker 5: that they have. And, you know, they the good thing
- 18:15Speaker 5: about it, too, is they get to go through the
- 18:19Speaker 5: process twice. So they go through the first time and
- 18:23Speaker 5: a lot of times they end up. maybe a little,
- 18:26Speaker 5: you know, broke or possibly in debt, and then they
- 18:30Speaker 5: get a second chance. So hopefully, you know, our goal
- 18:34Speaker 5: in partnership with the West Virginia State Treasurer's Office as
- 18:38Speaker 5: well as Putnam County Schools is to kind of open
- 18:40Speaker 5: their eyes a little earlier in life about, you know,
- 18:42Speaker 5: the importance of budgeting and making sure that you're covering,
- 18:46Speaker 5: you know, your necessary bills before buying things that you
- 18:50Speaker 5: may not need. So you might not need that Maserati.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Here, you know. One of the best moments I remember
- 18:57Speaker 6: was when a kid looked at me one time. I
- 19:00Speaker 6: was volunteering, and the kid looked up to me, and
- 19:02Speaker 6: I guess he'd gone bankrupt in like the first 10
- 19:04Speaker 6: or 15 minutes. He goes, man, no wonder my mom
- 19:06Speaker 6: and dad are always in a bad mood.
- 19:09Speaker 5: That's true. Yeah, yeah. The comments that they make throughout
- 19:13Speaker 5: the process are always, always entertaining. But we know that,
- 19:17Speaker 5: you know, this is an important thing for them to do,
- 19:20Speaker 5: an important process for them to understand. And so to
- 19:23Speaker 5: be able to partner with Putnam County Schools, our chamber
- 19:25Speaker 5: members in the treasurer's office to be able to bring
- 19:27Speaker 5: this program to all of our eighth grade students here
- 19:31Speaker 5: in Putnam County Schools. So over 800 students, we're going
- 19:34Speaker 5: to put through the program over the next two days.
- 19:38Speaker 5: is something that we are really, really proud of and
- 19:40Speaker 5: also very grateful to our chamber members who volunteer for
- 19:44Speaker 5: this program because it does take a lot of volunteers
- 19:47Speaker 5: to be able to run the simulator. as efficiently as
- 19:51Speaker 5: we do.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Now, where are you on volunteers right now? I know
- 19:53Speaker 6: you could always, at least in years past, you can
- 19:55Speaker 6: always use more.
- 19:57Speaker 5: We can. Yeah, we can always use more. We like
- 20:00Speaker 5: to have a full room of volunteers there. So if
- 20:02Speaker 5: anybody is interested, no experience required. We'll teach you what
- 20:06Speaker 5: to do. We'll show you what to do. Just give
- 20:09Speaker 5: us a call here at the chamber office and let
- 20:10Speaker 5: us know that you'd like to come and participate.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Where and when again? Just want to make sure I
- 20:15Speaker 6: get that out there.
- 20:17Speaker 5: We're going to be, it's Tuesday and Wednesday of this week,
- 20:19Speaker 5: so tomorrow and Wednesday, and we're going to be at
- 20:21Speaker 5: the Armory in Eleanor.
- 20:22Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's always a good time, like I said, because,
- 20:25Speaker 6: I mean, we have a lot of fun with it,
- 20:27Speaker 6: and the kids do too, and the volunteers, but it
- 20:29Speaker 6: is educational for them as well, and your only hope
- 20:33Speaker 6: is that those eighth graders are picking up on something
- 20:35Speaker 6: there that they can take home, because when you think
- 20:38Speaker 6: about it, when you're in eighth grade, you know, that's
- 20:40Speaker 6: when you Hopefully, you started saving a little bit of money,
- 20:42Speaker 6: saving for that first car or helping out with college
- 20:45Speaker 6: or whatever it is that you're doing. I mean, your
- 20:47Speaker 6: parents should be teaching them that anyway. So there's a
- 20:50Speaker 6: lot to learn, and it's really a great program. It
- 20:54Speaker 6: really is.
- 20:57Speaker 13: It is.
- 20:57Speaker 5: It is.
- 20:58Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 5: And it is housed out of the treasurer's office. So
- 21:00Speaker 5: if you're not in Putnam County or your student is
- 21:03Speaker 5: not in Putnam County and you'd like to bring this
- 21:05Speaker 5: program to your area for those that are not here
- 21:09Speaker 5: in the valley, you can. You can do that. They
- 21:12Speaker 5: travel all around the state to put Share this program
- 21:15Speaker 5: within the school system and you can do it the
- 21:18Speaker 5: way we do it, where we go with every we
- 21:21Speaker 5: bring the students to us or they will also take
- 21:24Speaker 5: the program out to the school specifically. So if you
- 21:27Speaker 5: are not a Putnam County person and you or you
- 21:30Speaker 5: just can't participate or you have students in other counties
- 21:33Speaker 5: and you don't know if this program is available to them,
- 21:35Speaker 5: it is. You just have to contact us. treasurer's office
- 21:38Speaker 5: to do so.
- 21:39Speaker 6: And one of the things too that was done in
- 21:41Speaker 6: the past, I'm presuming you're still doing that, is that
- 21:44Speaker 6: you have somebody that will go along because in life,
- 21:47Speaker 6: as you well know, things happen that you aren't planning
- 21:50Speaker 6: for and you could be on a perfect trajectory to
- 21:52Speaker 6: do everything right and then all of a sudden you
- 21:55Speaker 6: have a house fire. All of a sudden you have
- 21:57Speaker 6: a job loss or something like that. I guess you're
- 22:04Speaker 6: still doing that where certain people, you know, you just
- 22:06Speaker 6: kind of pick them at random and go, okay, your
- 22:08Speaker 6: life is going good, but guess what? This has happened
- 22:11Speaker 6: to you.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 5: So there is, there is a character that, that walks
- 22:16Speaker 5: around and they, um, they walk around with, uh, cards
- 22:21Speaker 5: and on those, you know, if you get handed a card, it,
- 22:23Speaker 5: it can be anything from a you know, a broken
- 22:27Speaker 5: leg to a cat that needs to go to the
- 22:30Speaker 5: vet on unnecessary or, you know, unexpectedly. Um, so it's,
- 22:34Speaker 5: you know, those things that you don't, you know, you
- 22:36Speaker 5: don't always quite budget for it that pop up that,
- 22:39Speaker 5: that do end up costing you some money. So just,
- 22:42Speaker 5: you know, even if you think, Hey, I'm doing pretty
- 22:44Speaker 5: good life happens. And so we try to show them that,
- 22:49Speaker 5: you know, not only do you need to be prepared
- 22:51Speaker 5: for your day-to-day expenses, but to be, um, to also
- 22:56Speaker 5: be prepared if things do pop up. So our kids
- 22:59Speaker 5: have a great time. Our students, they have a wonderful
- 23:01Speaker 5: time with this program. It's always fun to hear, you know, uh,
- 23:04Speaker 5: their feedback from it. And, um, We're, like I said,
- 23:09Speaker 5: we can always use more volunteers. So if you think
- 23:12Speaker 5: this sounds like a good time, we promise that it is.
- 23:15Speaker 5: And you can come on down and spend a couple,
- 23:17Speaker 5: spend the day with us either Tuesday or Wednesday. You
- 23:20Speaker 5: don't have to volunteer for both. You can just volunteer
- 23:22Speaker 5: one day if you're available or if you have a
- 23:25Speaker 5: great time. Sometimes we have volunteers that come on Tuesday
- 23:28Speaker 5: and then they think, wow, that was such a great time.
- 23:30Speaker 5: I'd like to come back tomorrow. So, yeah, you can
- 23:33Speaker 5: volunteer one day, two days, whatever. So whatever is good
- 23:37Speaker 5: for you, we love to get our business community involved
- 23:41Speaker 5: in this program. And so we're really excited and we're
- 23:46Speaker 5: looking forward to the week.
- 23:47Speaker 6: Had a text that said some adults would benefit from
- 23:49Speaker 6: the Get a Life training too.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. We hear that a lot that, you know,
- 23:56Speaker 5: we do this in eighth grade to try to prepare them,
- 23:58Speaker 5: you know, super early. You know, a lot of times
- 24:01Speaker 5: in high school, that's when you'll find our students will
- 24:03Speaker 5: start getting their first jobs. And so we can kind
- 24:06Speaker 5: of get in there with them before then. But it
- 24:09Speaker 5: has also been asked that we look at maybe a program,
- 24:12Speaker 5: you know, right before they graduate high school to reiterate,
- 24:16Speaker 5: you know, some of the things that they might have
- 24:17Speaker 5: learned and forgotten about. Yeah. So that's always in the works.
- 24:22Speaker 5: That's always on our to-do list is something that we
- 24:25Speaker 5: can bring not only to, you know, like I said,
- 24:28Speaker 5: all the A3 students, but maybe something a little bit later,
- 24:31Speaker 5: you know, when they're juniors or seniors and getting ready
- 24:33Speaker 5: to go off to college and really, you know, getting
- 24:35Speaker 5: to the point where they're going to have to budget
- 24:37Speaker 5: on their own. So, yeah, we definitely think it's something
- 24:41Speaker 5: that everybody should think about and, you If we can
- 24:46Speaker 5: help in any way, we try.
- 24:47Speaker 6: It's Tuesday and Wednesday at the Armory there in Eleanor.
- 24:50Speaker 6: And again, this is a partnership with Putnam County Schools,
- 24:53Speaker 6: the Putnam County Chamber. And of course, this all comes
- 24:55Speaker 6: out of the treasurer's office. Hats off to several different
- 24:59Speaker 6: treasurers have done this, that have held that office over
- 25:02Speaker 6: the years, been going on for some time. Before we
- 25:04Speaker 6: let you go, I do want to ask you just
- 25:05Speaker 6: for an overall, how are things going in Putnam County
- 25:07Speaker 6: right now? Because if traffic is any indication, things are
- 25:11Speaker 6: going pretty well in Putnam County right now. A lot
- 25:15Speaker 6: of businesses open, people moving in. Talk about that a
- 25:17Speaker 6: little bit.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Yeah, we do.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 5: We've, uh, we've got some, um, you know, yes, yes,
- 25:22Speaker 5: the traffic and yes, but everybody just, you know, we
- 25:25Speaker 5: know that it can get congested certain times of day.
- 25:28Speaker 5: So if you don't like to sit in it, maybe
- 25:31Speaker 5: try an alternate schedule of traveling. Um, but it's not
- 25:34Speaker 5: that bad. No, it's, it's really not. And, um, We
- 25:38Speaker 5: know that, you know, we've got a lot of things
- 25:41Speaker 5: coming up. We've got some new businesses coming into the area.
- 25:46Speaker 5: There was a press release last week about a new
- 25:48Speaker 5: housing development over in Winfield happening, and so we are
- 25:55Speaker 5: doing really good, and we're just Grateful that so many
- 25:59Speaker 5: people want to be here in Putnam County and live
- 26:02Speaker 5: here and raise their family and, you know, start their businesses.
- 26:06Speaker 5: I've had a couple of meetings recently with some potential
- 26:09Speaker 5: new restaurants coming to the area. So I know people
- 26:12Speaker 5: will be happy about that. And, you know, we're moving on,
- 26:17Speaker 5: moving on.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Ashley Offord-Glantz, Executive Director, Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Again,
- 26:22Speaker 6: the Get Alive program in Kentucky. working with the Treasurer's
- 26:26Speaker 6: Office and also with Putnam County Schools and the Chamber
- 26:29Speaker 6: of Courts. It's happening Tuesday and Wednesday in Eleanor at
- 26:32Speaker 6: the Armory. Contact the Chamber Office if you need more
- 26:34Speaker 6: information about that. Appreciate you. Sorry I can't be there,
- 26:37Speaker 6: but they make me work, you know, all day now.
- 26:39Speaker 6: So I'm sorry. I'm there in spirit, okay?
- 26:43Speaker 5: Yeah, well, maybe next time.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Maybe next time.
- 26:46Speaker 5: We'll get you out of there. We'll let you out.
- 26:47Speaker 6: All right, Ashley. Appreciate it. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Thanks, Dave.
- 26:51Speaker 7: Have a great one.

- 27:18Speaker 6: always tell them, Go to some areas of the state
- 27:21Speaker 6: and complain about traffic. They would kill to have a
- 27:23Speaker 6: traffic issue. All right, bring it on. And I'm sitting
- 27:26Speaker 6: right there in the middle of it, you know, daily.
- 27:28Speaker 6: So bring it on. It's a good problem to have.

- 27:49Speaker 16: I would strongly recommend Jarrett Construction. John and his team
- 27:51Speaker 16: walked us through the process of building our church from
- 27:53Speaker 16: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
- 27:57Speaker 16: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
- 27:59Speaker 16: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
- 28:02Speaker 16: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
- 28:04Speaker 16: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend

- 30:05Speaker 6: with 13 news and tonight live anchorman to Baron and me,
- 30:08Speaker 6: now noon to two. Hotline with Weekly and Coop now
- 30:10Speaker 6: runs two to five, and Sportsline expands to two hours
- 30:13Speaker 6: from five to seven. Coming up later today on the
- 30:17Speaker 6: now two-hour Metro News Midday, jammed with the news, TJ
- 30:19Speaker 6: Meadows will Stick around a little while. I told you
- 30:21Speaker 6: earlier that Dylan Hackworth is on the show again today,
- 30:25Speaker 6: as he just was. And he's got, well, I'll let
- 30:29Speaker 6: him tell the story. It's a very interesting story about
- 30:31Speaker 6: some fire departments as it relates to 9-11. So he's
- 30:34Speaker 6: going to join us to talk about that. Chris Childs,
- 30:36Speaker 6: longtime Cabell County prosecutor, has passed away. We're going to
- 30:39Speaker 6: talk to the current Cabell County prosecutor, Jason Spears, about that.
- 30:43Speaker 6: And a former FCC chairman will join us to talk
- 30:45Speaker 6: about the problems with kids and tech problems. All that
- 30:48Speaker 6: and more coming up on Metro News Midday with 13 News.
- 30:51Speaker 6: And tonight, live anchor Amanda Barrett and me, powered by
- 30:53Speaker 6: Selangor Law. Now, on this show tomorrow, our buddy Joe
- 30:56Speaker 6: Stevens from the city of Nitro will talk about some
- 30:58Speaker 6: cool things happening in the explosive town of Nitro. Danny
- 31:03Speaker 6: Jones is here. How you doing, my friend?
- 31:05Speaker 3: The place to go.
- 31:07Speaker 6: Is Nitro.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Is Nitro.
- 31:09Speaker 6: You're looking well, man.
- 31:10Speaker 3: I'm doing fine.
- 31:11Speaker 6: You're looking all spiffy today.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 31:13Speaker 6: I'll say this. You are always a fantastic dresser. I mean, especially,
- 31:18Speaker 6: you know, when you were in public office. I mean,
- 31:20Speaker 6: you look good now, but, I mean, you believe in
- 31:23Speaker 6: looking the part.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I never went to work if I was wearing a suit.
- 31:29Speaker 3: I didn't wear a coat and tie. I always wore
- 31:31Speaker 3: a suit. And I don't even own a dress shirt
- 31:36Speaker 3: that doesn't have French cuffs. And I had those cufflinks
- 31:40Speaker 3: made with the City of Charleston emblem. They're gold on them.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So I always had, uh, French cuffs with, uh, with
- 31:51Speaker 3: gold and, uh, always, always wore a suit every, every,
- 31:56Speaker 3: every day.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Why do you think that's important?
- 31:59Speaker 3: Well, I, I just think that the, the mayor ought to,
- 32:07Speaker 3: I represent the city and the mayor ought to look, um,
- 32:12Speaker 3: good and dressy and, uh, There's a personal thing going
- 32:16Speaker 3: on there, though. You've got to remember, except when I
- 32:20Speaker 3: was sheriff in the legislature, I never wore a— I never
- 32:28Speaker 3: dressed up. I wore kitchen clothes.
- 32:31Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 3: And here I got a chance to strut around some
- 32:37Speaker 3: really nice threads, and I did.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Really good. Before we get into anything in the news,
- 32:43Speaker 6: I want to tell you about something that you may enjoy.
- 32:45Speaker 6: We're doing an event next week at Capital Market. Remember
- 32:49Speaker 6: the show Family Affair?
- 32:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 6: So Kathy Garver, who played Sissy on Family Affair, Mrs. Gilligan,
- 32:57Speaker 6: Dream of Denver, and Julie McAuliffe. She was on the
- 33:01Speaker 6: show Growing Pains and Sharknado. We're doing an event with
- 33:05Speaker 6: those three at Capital Market, free admission, next week. Monday
- 33:11Speaker 6: from 4 until 6. And it's just kind of a
- 33:13Speaker 6: Q & A with those three ladies, with all three actresses.
- 33:17Speaker 6: You can get details on the WCHS Network Facebook page.
- 33:21Speaker 6: I've known Dream of Denver for years. Julie, I don't know.
- 33:24Speaker 6: I've interviewed Kathy Garver, who was Sissy on Family Affair,
- 33:28Speaker 6: but I've never met her. I'm looking forward to meeting
- 33:29Speaker 6: her over there. So it's going to be a nice event.
- 33:32Speaker 6: You should come over and hang out and hang out
- 33:34Speaker 6: with Sissy from Family Affair.
- 33:35Speaker 3: I've had to drive a long way.
- 33:39Speaker 6: I think you can do it. I think you can
- 33:41Speaker 6: do it. Uh, all right. So a couple of things
- 33:43Speaker 6: I wanted to get your opinion on and, you know, uh,
- 33:46Speaker 6: where we're going to start. The president has banned Danny CNN,
- 33:50Speaker 6: MS now, which is formerly, uh, MSNBC and Politico from
- 33:54Speaker 6: the white house grounds. All three have announced that they
- 33:57Speaker 6: will sue your take.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Well, it ought to be a, uh, done in the
- 34:04Speaker 3: form of a written mandamus. Um, to show cause why
- 34:11Speaker 3: they shouldn't be allowed in there. I think it's outrageous.
- 34:16Speaker 3: And the fact that you can just pick people out that.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Look, I'm not a fan of MSNBC or... What, CNN?
- 34:27Speaker 6: CNN, Politico, and MSNOW, formerly MSNBC.
- 34:32Speaker 3: They have... These people are news organizations. They have lots
- 34:36Speaker 3: of employees. And it's just an outrage, really. In my opinion.
- 34:41Speaker 6: Well, and they're not, I mean, the thing about it
- 34:43Speaker 6: is they're not saying that you can't cover. They're just
- 34:45Speaker 6: saying that you have been, I mean, the optics to
- 34:48Speaker 6: me are just terrible.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Saying watch another television station.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Well, or I mean, all those things are live. I mean,
- 34:54Speaker 6: you know, I mean, everything's on YouTube or on C-SPAN
- 34:57Speaker 6: or whatever. So on the network, so you can watch
- 35:00Speaker 6: it and report on it. But they just don't, he
- 35:02Speaker 6: just doesn't want them there. And all three are going
- 35:04Speaker 6: to sue.
- 35:05Speaker 3: They should.
- 35:06Speaker 6: And this is, but here's the thing. This has been
- 35:09Speaker 6: done in the past. OK, but never into my knowledge.
- 35:13Speaker 6: And I tried to do a deep dive on this
- 35:14Speaker 6: this morning. To my knowledge, it's never been done to
- 35:17Speaker 6: an entire network. Joe Biden actually took away credentials from
- 35:21Speaker 6: 440 reporters. But it wasn't a network. It was individual
- 35:27Speaker 6: reporters that he took. And it was more they just
- 35:31Speaker 6: changed the way that they did things, basically coming out
- 35:34Speaker 6: and saying, well, there's too many people with access to
- 35:36Speaker 6: these things. We're going to streamline it a little bit.
- 35:39Speaker 6: He didn't come out, though, and say, all right, CNN,
- 35:42Speaker 6: Fox News, or whatever, you can't come here anymore. Now,
- 35:46Speaker 6: I said this earlier, I mean, to a lot of people.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Imagine had, oh, you can use Biden, you can use Obama,
- 35:53Speaker 6: you can use whoever you want. If they would have
- 35:54Speaker 6: said Fox News, you are not allowed to cover this.
- 35:57Speaker 6: A news organization, which, by the way, had been admitted
- 35:59Speaker 6: in court that they weren't a legitimate news organization.
- 36:01Speaker 3: I think President Obama did that.
- 36:04Speaker 6: Did he do a network, though?
- 36:05Speaker 16: Fox.
- 36:07Speaker 17: Okay.
- 36:07Speaker 6: I'll have to.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Google that and see if I'm wrong. All right.
- 36:11Speaker 6: You keep talking and I'll Google.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I want to talk about something that's really been bothering me.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And I'm old enough, like a lot of people out
- 36:22Speaker 3: there listening. to when President Kennedy was killed. And we,
- 36:30Speaker 3: my family was all Republican. Richard Nixon, Senator Goldwater, Mitt
- 36:41Speaker 3: Romney's dad, I mean, all of them. We were Republicans.
- 36:48Speaker 3: But in 1964, I was home from military school. And somewhere,
- 36:58Speaker 3: that's the part I can't remember, they were collecting money
- 37:04Speaker 3: for the Kennedy Center. See, it had been planned when
- 37:10Speaker 3: Eisenhower was president, but it was just going to be
- 37:12Speaker 3: a center. You know, a performance hall and a museum.
- 37:19Speaker 3: But when President Kennedy died, they thought they'd name it
- 37:22Speaker 3: after him. And so I asked my mother, you know,
- 37:27Speaker 3: I made money collecting pop bottles and mowing grass. I said,
- 37:32Speaker 3: I'd like to give $ 5. And she said, well, I
- 37:35Speaker 3: think that's real nice. And I gave $ 5. And I
- 37:39Speaker 3: got a card from Jackie thanking me for the contribution. Now,
- 37:49Speaker 3: I don't know what President Trump has planned here, but
- 37:56Speaker 3: it needs a lot of work. Matter of fact, in
- 37:58Speaker 3: the front foyer there, it's crumbling. You can see it
- 38:02Speaker 3: on the ground, on the floor. All they'd have to
- 38:10Speaker 3: do is turn off the heat in the building during
- 38:12Speaker 3: the winter. And it'd get real moist in there, and
- 38:17Speaker 3: the ceiling, the roof could possibly crack. And all because
- 38:23Speaker 3: President Trump wants his name on it.
- 38:25Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 38:27Speaker 3: And it infuriates me. He is a draft doctor. President
- 38:34Speaker 3: Kennedy was a war hero. And it really, really grates
- 38:41Speaker 3: me that that happened.
- 38:43Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 38:44Speaker 3: You know, it just really upsets me.
- 38:47Speaker 6: It upsets a lot of people.
- 38:49Speaker 3: And I think it's wrong. And I can't believe— and it's,
- 38:56Speaker 3: you know, if not for the— I mean, you could just
- 39:01Speaker 3: pile that on to a bunch of reasons that the
- 39:03Speaker 3: Democrats are going to take everything in this election. Now,
- 39:10Speaker 3: I'll tell you one prediction I'm going to make. Tallarico—
- 39:14Speaker 3: It's going to be the next senator from Texas. The Democrat.
- 39:20Speaker 6: I saw a piece on that a couple days ago
- 39:22Speaker 6: with somebody that was agreeing with you.
- 39:24Speaker 3: You remember when Beto ran against Ted Cruz?
- 39:27Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Only beat him by three points. And Tallarico's ahead six,
- 39:35Speaker 3: and he's running against a guy who is an open degenerate.
- 39:43Speaker 3: He's had criminal charges brought against him. He's been impeached.
- 39:47Speaker 3: He had a girlfriend who he paraded around with while
- 39:52Speaker 3: he was married, and his wife was a state senator.
- 39:58Speaker 3: And I don't get that. I mean, if we were
- 40:02Speaker 3: watching Dr. Phil, maybe, but I don't, you know, this
- 40:08Speaker 3: wasn't something he snuck around and got a hotel room.
- 40:10Speaker 3: This is something he did openly. And they could have
- 40:16Speaker 3: easily gotten a seat back with Cornyn.
- 40:20Speaker 6: The thing about Texas is people think Texas, Danny, and
- 40:23Speaker 6: they think, well, it's right-wing. There are certain ideologies there,
- 40:29Speaker 6: but there– I mean, anytime you have cities– you have
- 40:32Speaker 6: a state that has large metropolitan areas, Dallas, Houston, Austin
- 40:36Speaker 6: is as liberal as it comes, and some of those
- 40:39Speaker 6: cities like that, then– it's not all going to be
- 40:43Speaker 6: just right wing. I mean, you're going to have.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Well, Travis County.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Is.
- 40:50Speaker 3: That's awesome. They indicted Governor Perry when he was governor
- 40:58Speaker 3: for vetoing a bill. Do you hear what I said? Yeah.
- 41:05Speaker 3: For vetoing a bill. And so the state of Texas
- 41:10Speaker 3: had to pay a lawyer $ 400 an hour to defend
- 41:16Speaker 3: Rick Perry on a really frivolous charge. They indicted Tom DeLay.
- 41:24Speaker 3: He lost in lower court, but he had it overturned.
- 41:31Speaker 3: But it cost him, I think, $ 700, 000 or $ 800, 000. He
- 41:33Speaker 3: had Dick DeGarian. who at that time, he's 85 now,
- 41:40Speaker 3: he's probably the best lawyer in Texas at that time. But,
- 41:47Speaker 3: you know, Trump, they brag about he can, if you
- 41:50Speaker 3: don't get the endorsement in the primary, you can't win. Well,
- 41:54Speaker 3: if you win the primary, there's a good shot you'll
- 41:58Speaker 3: lose the election. And I submit for your consideration, Hershel Walker,
- 42:04Speaker 3: Kerry Lake, and now this guy in Texas. Because he
- 42:10Speaker 3: wants to— and then he mucked up that election in Maryland,
- 42:14Speaker 3: that governor's race, which gave us Wes Moore. Now, maybe
- 42:20Speaker 3: Wes Moore would have won anyway. But I can't think
- 42:24Speaker 3: of the governor's name at the time. Big guy. Heavy guy.
- 42:28Speaker 3: He's a Republican, but he didn't like Trump.
- 42:31Speaker 6: Okay.
- 42:32Speaker 3: And he was running his secretary of commerce for the female.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 42:38Speaker 3: As a Republican candidate. Well, so Trump got in there
- 42:42Speaker 3: and grabbed some Yahoo out of the legislature. And so
- 42:47Speaker 3: he endorsed him, and this guy got nominated and got
- 42:52Speaker 3: 31% of the vote against Wes Moore.
- 42:55Speaker 6: Let me go back to the Barack Obama thing, and
- 42:58Speaker 6: we had a text about this too. So what happened
- 43:00Speaker 6: was when you said, we're talking about Barack Obama banning reporter.
- 43:03Speaker 6: In October 2009, the Treasury Department tried to exclude a
- 43:07Speaker 6: Fox News journalist from a single press pool interview with
- 43:11Speaker 6: the administration's pay czar. Other networks, including CNN, pushed back
- 43:19Speaker 6: and refused to participate if Fox was blocked. And the
- 43:23Speaker 6: administration reversed the decision, and Fox wasn't allowed to cover
- 43:27Speaker 6: the event. So in essence, Fox never banned or Obama
- 43:30Speaker 6: never banned CNN. or did that with Fox News. It
- 43:33Speaker 6: was the Treasury Department, and oddly enough, and we've got
- 43:37Speaker 6: to go to break, CNN came to Fox News' defense.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Why don't they all walk out?
- 43:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:43Speaker 3: That's what will stop this. We all refuse to go
- 43:46Speaker 3: unless CNN and MSNBC and— Well.
- 43:49Speaker 6: Fox News is not going to do that. You know
- 43:51Speaker 6: Fox is not going to do that. But CNN did
- 43:53Speaker 6: it for them in 2009. Well, they ought to do
- 43:55Speaker 6: it now. They ought to do it. We've got to
- 43:59Speaker 6: leave it right there. I'm going to take a break,
- 44:01Speaker 6: and we've got a lot of text to get to
- 44:03Speaker 6: as well. The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is

- 45:31Speaker 6: Welcome back to the show. Seven away from 10 o'clock.
- 45:34Speaker 6: I got a couple texts here. Danny Jones is here.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Text says, it's common sense. Any veteran will tell you
- 45:38Speaker 6: if you don't have freedom of the press, you don't
- 45:40Speaker 6: have democracy and a free nation. Text, Trump is trying
- 45:45Speaker 6: to steal valor from a guy who has an aircraft
- 45:49Speaker 6: carrier named after him. Trump is a thief. Text says,
- 45:53Speaker 6: Barack Obama never banned Fox News, as we said earlier,
- 45:55Speaker 6: from the White House press room or anything else for
- 45:57Speaker 6: that matter. Sex abuser, talking about President Trump, is the
- 45:59Speaker 6: single greatest threat to democracy in the U.S. Don't try
- 46:02Speaker 6: to both sides. This attack on free speech, if Republicans
- 46:05Speaker 6: had honor, they would admit that their sex abusers engage
- 46:08Speaker 6: in censorship that they seem to care about. It is pathetic.
- 46:10Speaker 6: I'm not trying to both sides anything.
- 46:12Speaker 3: I wasn't. Please, I'll apologize. I didn't. I heard that
- 46:18Speaker 3: on the news. Yeah, it's okay. On a news channel.
- 46:23Speaker 3: And I... I never meant to run down President Obama. Yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 6: Well, there was an incident, but again, it was with
- 46:30Speaker 6: the Treasury Department. And what I didn't know until I
- 46:33Speaker 6: just looked it up is that CNN came to Fox News.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Well, and they ought to do it now. Brett Baier
- 46:38Speaker 3: and Brett Hume and those guys and all those news
- 46:42Speaker 3: organizations ought to.
- 46:44Speaker 6: All walk out.
- 46:46Speaker 3: They ought to walk out. Say, we'll come back with
- 46:49Speaker 3: Politico and MSNBC. And, you know, I'm not crazy about
- 46:55Speaker 3: these stations, but I watch CNN a little bit. I
- 46:58Speaker 3: like Jake Tapper. And I'll tell you what. I listened
- 47:01Speaker 3: on noon. Could it have been Friday? I listened to— I
- 47:08Speaker 3: was in my car, and I was listening to Dana,
- 47:12Speaker 3: the blonde-headed lady.
- 47:14Speaker 6: Dana Bash?
- 47:15Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 47:15Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 47:16Speaker 3: And I was listening to her. She interviewed me once.
- 47:19Speaker 3: And she had Mark Wayne Mullen on. And the exchange
- 47:23Speaker 3: didn't get testy, but it was a good exchange. They
- 47:29Speaker 3: both dug deep. It was a good interview. And I
- 47:33Speaker 3: enjoyed it. And I don't know why Mark Wayne Mullen
- 47:37Speaker 3: would give up a Senate seat to go to work
- 47:40Speaker 3: in the Trump administration. I just don't get it.
- 47:43Speaker 6: Text, it doesn't matter if it's a network or the
- 47:46Speaker 6: individual reporter who's the representative of that network that are banned.
- 47:49Speaker 6: Both are the same. Can't have it both ways. And
- 47:51Speaker 6: then they went on to say that Obama banned the
- 47:54Speaker 6: press and Fox News reporter. And again, that's been that
- 47:56Speaker 6: that did not happen that way. But I do appreciate
- 47:59Speaker 6: the text. Texas, Telerico is a complete blasphemer. He said
- 48:03Speaker 6: God is non-binary. His favorite kids are trans kids. His
- 48:05Speaker 6: names of his favorite Texas drag queens without hesitation. And
- 48:09Speaker 6: said Mary could have had an abortion. I'll take a
- 48:12Speaker 6: so-called criminal over a demagogue any day. Well, Trump is
- 48:14Speaker 6: not a so-called criminal.
- 48:16Speaker 3: No, he's talking about the Attorney General Paxton. Oh, okay, okay.
- 48:24Speaker 6: I got you, I got you.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Well, you know, he can bring all that stuff up
- 48:29Speaker 3: he wants, but Tallarico's hitting the polls.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Tech says the Kennedy Center's Board of Trustees are who
- 48:34Speaker 6: vote on the name and the repairs, not Trump.
- 48:36Speaker 3: And they're appointed by Trump. And he stacked it. And
- 48:42Speaker 3: it's—I'm sorry. I just get upset.
- 48:48Speaker 6: Well, let it out, man.
- 48:49Speaker 3: I just get upset about that sociopath. He thinks he
- 48:57Speaker 3: can put his name on the front of that building.
- 49:00Speaker 3: With President Kennedy. It's outrageous. He is a draft dodger.
- 49:09Speaker 3: He went four years to military school. Bone spurs? Are
- 49:15Speaker 3: you kidding me? He was a company commander.
- 49:18Speaker 6: He marched.
- 49:20Speaker 3: He carried a baton.
- 49:24Speaker 6: Why haven't, in your opinion, Danny, when he was first
- 49:26Speaker 6: running for office, why didn't more veterans speak out against him?
- 49:31Speaker 3: Because he was a Republican. They did it with Clinton
- 49:35Speaker 3: because Clinton beat Clinton be the war hero, you know,
- 49:42Speaker 3: even though I don't– talk radio was– I think talk
- 49:47Speaker 3: radio was much more conservative then. And I hosted a
- 49:51Speaker 3: show back in those days. I hosted it through that election.
- 49:55Speaker 3: And it– you know, when President Bush got beat, it
- 49:58Speaker 3: kind of broke my heart. But– I went to the
- 50:03Speaker 3: white house and I saw president and I was close
- 50:06Speaker 3: to you to president Clinton. I said, God, he's big.
- 50:09Speaker 3: His neck was just huge. Now it's not ever since
- 50:14Speaker 3: he had that operation where they cut him open and
- 50:17Speaker 3: split his shell. He was out for six hours. He's
- 50:20Speaker 3: not the same guy.
- 50:22Speaker 6: My father, uh, passed away before Donald Trump ran for president,
- 50:26Speaker 6: but I can tell you, my father was not a
- 50:27Speaker 6: political by any stretch of the imagination. But he would
- 50:31Speaker 6: have had a real hard time with Donald Trump because
- 50:33Speaker 6: he had a real hard time with Bill Clinton. And again,
- 50:35Speaker 6: my dad wasn't political in the least.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Dad would have voted for him the first time because
- 50:40Speaker 3: they both went to Wharton. But I don't know about now.
- 50:44Speaker 3: I mean, I hope my father wouldn't. I know my
- 50:48Speaker 3: mother wouldn't have.
- 50:49Speaker 6: But a valid show on 580 Live brought to you
- 50:51Speaker 6: in part by Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. Danny,
- 50:53Speaker 6: it is always a pleasure to have you on the show.
- 50:55Speaker 6: Let's check in to see what Mr. We can hang
- 50:57Speaker 6: out with Mr.
- 50:58Speaker 9: Meadows.
- 50:58Speaker 8: What you got going on on the talk line? 1106
- 51:00Speaker 8: Putnam County Senator Eric Tarr joins us.
- 51:02Speaker 6: We'll get the latest.
- 51:03Speaker 8: Also talk about what we're going to do about child
- 51:05Speaker 8: care and welfare in this state. Moving forward with Raley's
- 51:08Speaker 8: Law and other. He has some thoughts on that. Brad
- 51:10Speaker 8: joins us with the latest on a nuclear West Virginia.
- 51:13Speaker 8: He has his hands on the MOU from the state
- 51:15Speaker 8: with the DOE. We'll break that down. And then coming
- 51:17Speaker 8: up at 10.06, Mon County Senator Mike Oliverio. To flock
- 51:21Speaker 8: or not to flock with a warrant? That is the question.
- 51:25Speaker 3: All right.
- 51:26Speaker 6: Talk line coming up at 10.06. I'll be back later
- 51:28Speaker 6: today with 13 News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Barron
- 51:31Speaker 6: on Metro News Midday. Two-hour version now starting today, noon
- 51:34Speaker 6: to 2. And then hotline will run from 2 until 5.

- 51:40Speaker 6: thank you so much. Coming up on this show tomorrow,
- 51:42Speaker 6: Joe Stevens will stop by from the city of Nitro.
