- 0:20Well, it's time for another edition of the Rancho Radio
- 0:22Podcast. I'm your host, long time reader
- 0:25and student of the 5th epical, Revelation.
- 0:29I'm on the West Coast, so if it sounds a little different, it's
- 0:31because I'm using a different setup.
- 0:33But I'm here and very excited. In recent days, I've been
- 0:38reading through the life and teachings of Jesus and I want to
- 0:42share with you Paper 130, Section 4 on the Discourse on
- 0:47Reality for a couple of good reasons, which I'll explain in
- 0:50just a few. But I do want to thank all those
- 0:53who've been emailing me. The program continues to grow.
- 0:56I'm so excited. I mean, it's it's you can tell
- 1:00by the trend lines that either new readers are finding it or
- 1:04there's more going on and maybe people are searching for it.
- 1:10It could also be that because of the troubled times that we live
- 1:13in, more and more people are searching for a real meaning in
- 1:17their life and that drives people to search for truth and
- 1:24certainly they're going to find it on the Rancho Radio podcast
- 1:26because that's what we talk about.
- 1:28The 5th epical Revelation is something that has been near and
- 1:31dear to me since I was about 18 years old.
- 1:35Way back in the early 80s. I discovered it just by
- 1:38accident. I was having a simple
- 1:41conversation with a Co worker and the subject of Adam and Eve
- 1:45popped up and I had my own perspectives about what I
- 1:49thought. I studied a little bit of it in
- 1:51the Bible and I knew from conversations I had with people.
- 1:56I spent a lot, a lot of time thinking about that.
- 1:59I'm not sure why, but probably just because it's such a
- 2:02fascinating story. I mean here we have the first
- 2:05two people appearing on the scene of of old history and
- 2:12their influence. Interestingly, if you if you
- 2:15look up the different cultures in the world and the different
- 2:19religions in the world, you'll find that almost every one of
- 2:22them contain a story of original creation.
- 2:27And so that tends to lend itself to the idea that something
- 2:31happened that was of significance.
- 2:34So much so that these two, what I would describe as
- 2:38supermortals, certainly the first of something and their
- 2:42influence on society is probably lost in time.
- 2:46And. But when you pick up the Urantia
- 2:48book, one of the more fascinating aspects of it is the
- 2:51papers or are the papers on the Adam and Eve story in In fact,
- 2:58I've run across a lot of Urantia book readers who have said to me
- 3:02that it was the introduction of the Adam and Eve story that
- 3:05picked their interest on the Urantia book.
- 3:09And then of course, the life and teachings of Jesus are just a
- 3:11fascinating 700 page trip into the life of this creator, Son of
- 3:18man, Son of God figure who continues to influence the world
- 3:22today. I do want to mention a couple of
- 3:26things because they are important to me.
- 3:28Number one, I believe the Urantia school is starting up
- 3:33again. I just saw it this morning and
- 3:37yeah, there it is. We've got the new session starts
- 3:40September 16th, which is right around the corner.
- 3:43But you can sign up and you can join a class.
- 3:45You can pick between several different topics depending on
- 3:49your level of interest. And it's free.
- 3:52And it's, it's a bit of reading and a bit of writing, but it's
- 3:56also sharing in that journey with other people who are
- 4:00reading the Urantia book and gives you an opportunity to to
- 4:05get other people's perspectives and to share your own.
- 4:09And everybody benefits. And it's a great way to learn
- 4:13about the many different aspects of reality in the Urantia book.
- 4:17So if you want to find out more information, I know you can go
- 4:20to the Urantia Foundation website, whichisurantia.org.
- 4:26And I want to say it's urantia.org front slash Ubis,
- 4:32but I could be wrong and Joanne Strobel would would be very
- 4:36upset with me if I mislead people.
- 4:38So just start with the urantia.org and you'll be able
- 4:41to find it. Or you could just try Urantia
- 4:44book Internet school and you'll find it on any search engine.
- 4:50I also want to talk about the fact that some music is coming
- 4:54my way via one of the listeners to the podcast.
- 4:57So I'm hoping once I settle back home after my trip, I'll be able
- 5:02to pull some new music in. I want to introduce the folks to
- 5:06that. Also, I want to remind you that
- 5:08the folks at the Unity Center for Unity project that are
- 5:13putting together the Jesus Discover app.
- 5:16Those people are doing terrific work.
- 5:19And I don't, I don't give credit enough to Gabriel and, and Rick
- 5:25Lyon and his wife and, and all the people that are behind the
- 5:28scenes working so diligently to try to bring the Urantia Book
- 5:33truth to light and introduce them in new media.
- 5:37And I know the Urantia Book School is doing great things
- 5:40with Derek and, and those folks. And so there's a lot of good
- 5:45energy right now. It's almost as if the earth is
- 5:49trembling. And I think great things are
- 5:52happening, but it's unfortunately during some dark
- 5:55times. And so you have to look a little
- 5:57farther and a little deeper to find those glimmering spectacles
- 6:03of light. And this is part and parcel why
- 6:07I do these podcasts because I, I wanted to, you know, harness
- 6:12this particular medium, which is the podcast podcast world.
- 6:17And the growth in podcast listening is is pretty
- 6:20phenomenal. Back in 20/17/2018, when I first
- 6:24started doing these podcasts, it took a little while for things
- 6:28to kind of get momentum. But I think people became more
- 6:33interested in podcasting when they realize that it's nothing
- 6:35more than on on demand listening.
- 6:38Seriously, it's no different from Netflix.
- 6:41You're listening to things on your own time.
- 6:45So I want to delve into this section, Paper 130 Discourse on
- 6:51reality, because as I often do, when I have a few hours, I'll
- 6:56open up the Urantia book and I'll just start reading
- 7:00something. I try to have a linear approach
- 7:03so that I figure like right now I'm basically going through part
- 7:08four more meaningfully than I have.
- 7:10And, and because I've been more interested in learning as much
- 7:14as I can about the life of Jesus before the public ministry, I've
- 7:18read the papers on his public ministry quite a bit.
- 7:21But his earlier years deserve another reading.
- 7:26And I found when you think about, for example, that Jesus
- 7:31had an opportunity to spend a couple of years with the Indian
- 7:35travelers and he was a tutor for the young man, the boy, and, and
- 7:39he got to know Ganad and Ghanid. And Ghanid is the the kid or the
- 7:47the son of Ganad, who was an international trader in his day.
- 7:54And they traveled from India and they happened to meet Jesus
- 7:58along the way. Jesus now in his 28th year and
- 8:03he decided he was going to go out into the world and get to
- 8:07know humanity. And along the way he runs into
- 8:11this couple and they need a tutor and he is of many
- 8:16languages. So Jesus decides to travel along
- 8:20and make a living while at the same time exploring the
- 8:24Mediterranean region. There've been a few books that
- 8:28have been published, quite a few books actually, that talk about
- 8:32the fact that there's suspicion that Jesus spent time, you know,
- 8:36traveling the Mediterranean. There are a couple of good books
- 8:39about that. But interestingly, I find, and
- 8:44maybe we'll save this for another discussion and I'll ask
- 8:46you if you're a Christian, why is it that most Christians don't
- 8:52want to learn anything other than what's in the New
- 8:54Testament? Or they seem to be stuck on the
- 8:58fact that if it's not in the Bible, then it must not be true.
- 9:03But just ask yourself a question.
- 9:05If the Son of man, Son of God, the the literal creator of our
- 9:09of our universe comes and decides to bestow himself along
- 9:14as the is the only begotten son, the creator Son, you would think
- 9:20that such a momentous historical event would be captured through
- 9:24the hearts and minds of many people who would chance to be
- 9:28able to meet this man. He was a powerful individual.
- 9:32And so I'm sure there are probably a lot of traditions out
- 9:36there that have somehow miraculously survived time.
- 9:41And that's why it's it's there are some books that allude to
- 9:46the fact that Jesus, I mean, forgive me, but the whole Mormon
- 9:50religion is based on this idea that Jesus spent time outside of
- 9:55Jerusalem and touched many people's lives.
- 9:59So the Urantia book just sort of brings it all together under one
- 10:03cohesive timeline. And so we're looking at this
- 10:08particular section 130, where Jesus is now a full grown man.
- 10:13His mother is settled, James is now ahead of the family.
- 10:18And Jesus has basically said, you know, it's time for me to be
- 10:22a man and go out into the world and get to know my fellow human
- 10:26beings and come to understand them a little bit better.
- 10:30And there would be no logical reason in my mind to reject the
- 10:34idea that Jesus did quite a bit of traveling in his early years.
- 10:38And in fact, the revelators tell us that one of the remarkable
- 10:42things about Jesus traveling through the Mediterranean is he
- 10:45was able to better prepare the minds of many of these people
- 10:49early on during his private tour so that they would be receptive
- 10:53to the teachings of the apostles later, especially the Greeks.
- 10:59And so they make many references in the Urantia book where Jesus
- 11:03has talked to people who later hear about his teachings and are
- 11:08indeed more receptive and are instrumental and setting up many
- 11:11of the early churches throughout the Mediterranean and so on.
- 11:16This particular case, I wanted to take note to the discourse on
- 11:21reality. And before I do, I it gets
- 11:23pretty heavy. And of course the midwayers, the
- 11:27the entities that put together the 4th part of the book admit
- 11:31that they did. They were allowed to take some
- 11:36of the sayings of Jesus and put them into modern phraseology so
- 11:42that we could better comprehend the teachings as as Jesus was
- 11:46teaching those he came into contact with.
- 11:50And so to me, the idea of the Son of Man, the highest
- 11:54personality of our creation, is giving a discourse on reality.
- 12:03And think about that for a moment.
- 12:04Here is the literal son of the living creator of the entire
- 12:09entirety of creation. And he's giving this young man,
- 12:14Ghanid, a lesson on the discourse of reality.
- 12:20Reality that means everything. That means everything we touch,
- 12:25see, hear, taste, all of it is reality.
- 12:29And here we have the Son of Man telling this young man what
- 12:35reality is. Think about how profound it is
- 12:39that we would have the Son of man, the Son of God, giving a
- 12:43discourse on what reality really is.
- 12:46And every day today, there's all these questions about what's
- 12:51reality? What does it mean, right?
- 12:54Well, here it is. So let us read from Discourse on
- 12:57Reality, Paper 130, Section 4. The night before they left
- 13:02Alexandria, Ganeed and Jesus. Some people pronounce it Ganeed.
- 13:09Ganeed and Jesus had a long visit with one of the government
- 13:13professors at the university, who lectured on the teachings of
- 13:16Plato. Jesus interpreted for the
- 13:19learned Greek teacher, but injected no teaching of his own
- 13:23in refutation of the Greek philosophy.
- 13:26Ganad was away on business that evening, so after the professor
- 13:29had departed, the teacher and his pupil had a long and heart
- 13:33to heart talk about Plato's doctrines.
- 13:37Now I'll just interject here that recently I started reading
- 13:40about The Cave. It's one of the early courses in
- 13:44philosophy that I took, and they talk a lot about The Cave of
- 13:48Socrates that he taught Plato. And The Cave idea is that that
- 13:55the material world is the shadow of the reality of the more
- 13:59enduring spiritual world. And the story goes that these
- 14:02people are chained in their cave and all they can see are the
- 14:05shadows of the outside world, but they can't really discern
- 14:09what those shadows represent. So their idea of reality is
- 14:14based on what they think those shadows represent.
- 14:17And so it's a lesson as to how perception has a lot to do with
- 14:21reality. And there's some other
- 14:23antecedents to the story, but that's the primary, central
- 14:27theme is that reality is based on perspective, what you're
- 14:31allowed to see. And and so that's the
- 14:35conversation that Jesus was having with his learned Greek
- 14:38teacher. So, continuing on, while Jesus
- 14:42gave qualified approval of some of the Greek teachings which had
- 14:45to do with the theory that the material things of the world are
- 14:48shadowy reflections of invisible but more substantial spiritual
- 14:53realities, he sought to lay a more trustworthy foundation for
- 14:57the lad's thinking. So he began a long and
- 15:00dissertation, a long dissertation concerning the
- 15:04nature of reality in the universe in substance and in
- 15:09modern phraseology. Jesus said to Ghanid the source
- 15:14of universe reality is the infinite.
- 15:19Think about that line for a moment.
- 15:20The source of universe reality is the infinite.
- 15:25So the infinite continues to supply the literally the energy
- 15:31components that make up the universe and it's endless.
- 15:35So the source of reality is drawn from Infinity.
- 15:42The material things of finite creation are the time space
- 15:46repercussions of the paradise pattern and the universal mind
- 15:50of the eternal God, causation in the physical world, self
- 15:57consciousness in the intellectual world, and
- 16:00progressing selfhood in the spirit world.
- 16:03These realities projected on a universal scale, combined in
- 16:09eternal relatedness and experienced with perfection of
- 16:14quality and divinity of value, constitute the reality of the
- 16:18Supreme. So there's three elements that
- 16:23are interrelated that constitute the totality of reality, the
- 16:28physical world, the self consciousness that sets the
- 16:33ability to be self-conscious of the fact that you're in the
- 16:37physical world from an intellectual perspective.
- 16:41So we observe the world behind us.
- 16:43So there's the physical world, then there's the consciousness
- 16:46of our intellectual recognition of that physical world with us
- 16:51in it, and the progressing selfhood in the spirit world,
- 16:56which means the ever progressing personality growth.
- 17:01Those are the three components that make up the reality of the
- 17:06Supreme continuing on. But in the ever changing
- 17:11universe, the original personality of causation,
- 17:14intelligence and spirit experience is changeless,
- 17:17absolute. All things Jesus said, even in
- 17:22an internal, in an eternal universe of limitless values and
- 17:26divine qualities may and oftentimes do change.
- 17:30Except the absolutes and that which has attained the physical
- 17:34status, intellectual embrace, or spiritual identity which is
- 17:40absolute. It's the Son of Man describing
- 17:44the totality of reality, those 3 levels, the physical world, our
- 17:48place in it, and the growth of our personality.
- 17:54The highest level to which a finite creature can progress is
- 17:57the recognition of the Universal Father and the knowing of the
- 18:01Supreme. That is the highest level that
- 18:05we can perceive and conceive of perfection.
- 18:09Anything higher than that, it's it's not possible.
- 18:12The Universal Father represents that highest level of reality
- 18:16consciousness, and even then such a being or such beings of
- 18:22finality, destiny, go on experiencing change in the
- 18:26motions of the physical world and in its material phenomena.
- 18:30Likewise do they remain aware of selfhood progression in their
- 18:34continuing ascension of the spiritual universe and of
- 18:39growing consciousness in their deepening appreciation of and
- 18:43response to the intellectual cosmos.
- 18:46So intellectual awareness is as real as the the substance of
- 18:51material reality. They both actually coexist.
- 18:55Now, that's not to say that physical reality cannot, cannot
- 18:59exist without intellectual recognition, but intellectual
- 19:02recognition is part of reality. Only in the perfection, harmony
- 19:08and unanimity of will can the creature become as one with the
- 19:12Creator, and as such the state of divinity is attained and
- 19:20maintained only by the the creatures continuing to live in
- 19:24time and eternity. By consistently conforming His
- 19:29finite personal will to the Divine will of the Creator.
- 19:35Always must the desire to do the Father's will be supreme in the
- 19:40soul and dominant over the mind of an ascending Son of God.
- 19:47Jesus goes on to say that A1 eyed person can never hope to
- 19:51visualize depth of perspective. Neither can single eyed material
- 19:56scientists nor single eyed spiritual Mystics and
- 20:00allegorists correctly visualize and adequately comprehend the
- 20:04true depths of universe reality. All true values of creature
- 20:09experience are concealed in depth of recognition.
- 20:15That's a pretty interesting concept, because it is literally
- 20:18true that the pragmatist, the scientist, the materialist, the
- 20:22secularist, they tend to observe life through the lens of one
- 20:27level of perspective. Everything is material.
- 20:31But when you have true values of creature experience, which is
- 20:34experienceable in personal growth, you're adding a layer a
- 20:39a a second perspective of of stereoscopic depth and meaning
- 20:45and value are as real as the thing being observed.
- 20:51That's at least my interpretation.
- 20:53Jesus goes on to say mindless causation.
- 20:56That means causation without any kind of intellectual mind behind
- 21:00it cannot evolve the refined and complex from the crude and the
- 21:04simple. This is where we get into an
- 21:07argument. What is the first uncaused
- 21:09cause? Neither.
- 21:12Can spiritless experience evolve the divine characters of eternal
- 21:16survival from the material minds of the mortals of time?
- 21:21The one. Attribute to the universe which
- 21:23is so exclusively and does so exclusively characterize the
- 21:28infinite Deity is this unending creative bestowal of personality
- 21:33which can survive in progressive deity and attainment.
- 21:38Present personality is that cosmic endowment, that phase of
- 21:43universe reality, which can coexist with unlimited change
- 21:47and at the same time retain its identity in the very presence of
- 21:50all such changes and forever afterward.
- 21:55Life is an adaptation of the original cosmic causation to the
- 21:59demands and possibilities of universe situations, and it
- 22:05comes into being by the action of the universal Mind and the
- 22:09activation of the Spirit spark of the God who is Spirit.
- 22:14The. Meaning of life is its
- 22:16adaptability. The value of life is its
- 22:21progressability even to the heights of God consciousness.
- 22:27Again, mind you, this is the highest personality source in
- 22:32our reality aside from God, who's explaining the reality of
- 22:38life. So let me say that again, the
- 22:40meaning of life is its adaptability.
- 22:44The value of life is its progress ability.
- 22:48So not only are we adapting, but we're learning and we're seeking
- 22:53the truth even to the heights of God consciousness.
- 22:58Now this. Is where things start to take a
- 23:00turn. Jesus says misadaptation of
- 23:04self-conscious life to the universe results in cosmic
- 23:08disharmony. Final.
- 23:10Divergent of personality will from the trend of the universe
- 23:13terminates in intellectual isolation.
- 23:17Personality segregation. Loss.
- 23:21Of the indwelling spirit, pilot supervenes and spiritual
- 23:24cessation of existence. That's such an important
- 23:30statement, loss of the indwelling spirit pilot.
- 23:36It means that spirit fragment supervenes in spiritual
- 23:40cessation of existence. Once that spirit pilot light
- 23:46ceases to exist, the human personality cannot proceed
- 23:50forward. That's the interpretation.
- 23:53Intelligent and progressing life becomes then and of itself an
- 23:58inconvertible proof of the existence of a purposeful
- 24:02universe expressing the will of a divine Creator.
- 24:06Your life and your progression is the incontrovertible proof of
- 24:11the existence of a purposeful universe, a universe with
- 24:15purpose, and it expresses the will of a divine Creator.
- 24:21Jesus. Says and this life in the
- 24:22aggregate struggles toward higher values, having for its
- 24:26final goal universal Father Jesus also said only in degree
- 24:32does man possess mind above the animal level, aside from the
- 24:35higher and quasi spiritual ministrations of intellect.
- 24:40Therefore. Animals not having worship and
- 24:42wisdom cannot experience super consciousness.
- 24:46That would be consciousness of consciousness.
- 24:50The animal mind is only conscious of the objective
- 24:53universe. Jesus says knowledge is the
- 24:57sphere of the material or fact discerning mind.
- 25:01Truth is the domain of the spiritually endowed intellect
- 25:05that is conscious of knowing God.
- 25:09Knowledge. Is demonstrable Truth is
- 25:11experienced. Knowledge is a possession of the
- 25:14mind, Truth and experience of the soul, the progressing self.
- 25:21Knowledge is a function of the non spiritual level.
- 25:24Truth is a phase of the mind, spirit level of the universe.
- 25:29The eye of the material mind perceives a world of factual
- 25:33knowledge. The eye of the spiritual, The
- 25:37eye of the spiritualized intellect discerns a world of
- 25:41true values. These two views, synchronized
- 25:45and harmonized, reveal the world of reality, wherein wisdom
- 25:51interprets the phenomena of the universe in terms of progressive
- 25:55personal experience. Jesus goes on to say that error
- 26:00is the penalty of imperfection. The qualities of imperfection or
- 26:05facts of misadaptations are disclosed on the material level
- 26:10by critical observation and by scientific analysis.
- 26:15On the. Moral level by human experience.
- 26:18The presence of evil constitutes proof of the inaccuracies of
- 26:23mind and the immaturity of the evolving self.
- 26:27Jesus says evil is therefore also a measure of imperfection.
- 26:31In universe interpretation, the possibility of making mistakes
- 26:38is inherent in the acquisition of wisdom, the scheme of
- 26:42progressing from the partial and temporal to the complete and
- 26:46eternal, from the relative and imperfect to the final and
- 26:50perfected. Error is the shadow of relative
- 26:55incompleteness which must of necessity fall across man's
- 26:59ascending universe path to paradise.
- 27:02Perfection error is not an actual universe quality.
- 27:09It is simply the observation of a relativity in the relatedness
- 27:13of the imperfection of the incomplete finite to the
- 27:18ascending levels of the supreme and ultimate.
- 27:24Although. Jesus told all of this to the
- 27:26lad in language best suited to his comprehension.
- 27:30At the end of the discussion, Ganied was heavy of eye and was
- 27:34soon lost in slumber. They rose early the next morning
- 27:38to go aboard the boat bound for Lacea on the island of Crete.
- 27:44And so there again is the discourse on reality from Paper
- 27:48130, Section 4, conveying the truths of the Son of Man, those
- 27:54who were there in his presence, taking notes so that we could,
- 27:58in the year 2024, actually learn from the Master himself.
- 28:03This, by the way, was conveyed to Ghanied in AD 23.
- 28:09So I thought it was worth sharing.
- 28:11And I'm sure that you would agree that any times as Son of
- 28:14Man wants to teach us about the concepts of reality.
- 28:16Well, that's a good place to start 130 And so we'll leave it
- 28:20there. And we always like to keep these
