Speaker 4: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughesy's a beautiful day here in
• 1:41
Speaker 4: the Canaw Valley. Sun, low, humidity high. Is it going
• 1:44
Speaker 4: to be in the low eighties. Man, It felt great
• 1:46
Speaker 4: out there when I left the house this morning. It's
• 1:48
Speaker 4: going to be clear. Tonight's overnight and early morning fog possible,
• 1:51
Speaker 4: much like we had this morning. Low around fifty eight.
• 1:54
Speaker 4: Tomorrow's sunny, a little bit warmer to talk about around
• 1:56
Speaker 4: eighty seven and Friday temperatures go down with the humidity
• 1:59
Speaker 4: goes up, so it's actually going to feel warmer and
• 2:02
Speaker 4: with that will come a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
• 2:04
Speaker 4: Highs is going to be in the mid eighties Saturday.
• 2:07
Speaker 4: Not looking good at least for now as far as
• 2:08
Speaker 4: your outdoor plans go. Rain, heavy rain and storms are
• 2:11
Speaker 4: possible Saturday with highs envelow eighties. We'll try to push
• 2:14
Speaker 4: out that rain though by Sunday they tell as tempts
• 2:16
Speaker 4: in the upper eighties. You can download the Metro News

• 2:24
Speaker 4: show today, we continue to look back at the floods
• 2:27
Speaker 4: of twenty sixteen, ten years ago. Yesterday being enjoying the
• 2:30
Speaker 4: studio today by Clinden and Mayor k Summers and Clinton
• 2:33
Speaker 4: Finre Chief Jacob Clendennon, both in the studio with us
• 2:36
Speaker 4: this morning. Also Aaron Wood is going to join us.
• 2:38
Speaker 4: He's the head of the Kanaha City Community Association. And
• 2:41
Speaker 4: of course we'll get to your calls in texts too.
• 2:43
Speaker 4: I want to welcome to the show now, Susan Kassdorf
• 2:45
Speaker 4: do talk about music of the legendary variety. Good morning,
• 2:50
Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
• 2:51
Speaker 5: Good morning Dave, It's good to see you.
• 2:52
Speaker 4: Again, thank you for being here. So now we're all familiar,
• 2:55
Speaker 4: Susan with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They're celebrating their one
• 2:58
Speaker 4: hundredth anniversary of their first concert held at the Hollywood Bowl.
• 3:02
Speaker 4: But there's a way people can take part in it
• 3:06
  Speaker 4: here in Charleston.
• 3:07
Speaker 6: That's absolutely right. First and foremost, the church has officially
• 3:11
Speaker 6: dropped the word Mormon from the Tabernacle Choir thing because
• 3:15
Speaker 6: we are not we don't worship Mormon. We're not Mormon, okay, right,
• 3:19
Speaker 6: So that's really kind of a derogatory term, and so
• 3:21
Speaker 6: we've dropped that from just about everything. But the Tabernacle
• 3:24
Speaker 6: Choir has had their very first concert ever August of
• 3:28
Speaker 6: twenty second, eighteen forty seven, in Salt Lake City, which
• 3:31
Speaker 6: was only twenty nine days after they hit the Salt
• 3:33
Speaker 6: Lake Valley for the first time, and they have been
• 3:36
Speaker 6: performing ever since. So they are performing again at the
• 3:40
Speaker 6: Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It is the one hundredth anniversary,
• 3:43
Speaker 6: as you said, of their first visit there, and we
• 3:46
Speaker 6: are conducting watch parties throughout the entire world, and we
• 3:50
Speaker 6: are having one here in Charleston, West Virginia. That's going
• 3:53
Speaker 6: to be this Saturday, the twenty seventh, that begins at
• 3:55
Speaker 6: two o'clock. The concert actually begins at three, but we've
• 3:58
Speaker 6: got a reception with some freshmens and some interesting things
• 4:02
  Speaker 6: for you to.
• 4:02
Speaker 5: See and to learn about.
• 4:04
Speaker 6: And it's going to be at the Capitol High School
• 4:06
Speaker 6: Theater at fifteen hundred Greenbrier Street. We asked that you
• 4:10
Speaker 6: get tickets to tickets are one hundred percent free, but
• 4:13
Speaker 6: you can go to tcwatchparty dot com to get your tickets.
• 4:18
Speaker 6: We want to make sure we have enough cookies, so
• 4:20
  Speaker 6: that's what I.
• 4:21
Speaker 7: Was going to say.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: Refreshments are part of it.
• 4:23
Speaker 5: That's right. Refreshments are part of it.
• 4:26
Speaker 6: So the choir that most people know about, it's now
• 4:28
Speaker 6: called the Tabernacle Choir Temple.
• 4:30
  Speaker 5: Square, and.
• 4:33
Speaker 6: They have received a Grammy in nineteen fifty nine for
• 4:36
Speaker 6: their recording at the Battle Hymn of the Republic. They
• 4:38
Speaker 6: have had two Platinum records, five Gold records. They have
• 4:42
Speaker 6: put out over two hundred recordings. They've received four Emmys
• 4:46
Speaker 6: for the longest running live broadcast. That began the radio
• 4:50
Speaker 6: show July fifteenth of nineteen twenty nine. And they're still
• 4:54
Speaker 6: going strong, st going strong, Yeah, still going strong.
• 4:57
Speaker 5: They have playlists on YouTube.
• 5:00
Speaker 6: They have a YouTube channel you can subscribe to if
• 5:03
Speaker 6: you like that kind of music. They sing everything from
• 5:06
Speaker 6: very sacred spiritual music right on up to pop songs.
• 5:11
Speaker 6: This year, this concert's going to have a number of
• 5:16
Speaker 6: interesting folks that are going to be singing with the choir,
• 5:19
Speaker 6: one of whom is my very favorite, Donnie Osmond, because
• 5:22
Speaker 6: I'm just that age.
• 5:24
  Speaker 5: Donnie's awesome.
• 5:25
Speaker 6: But there are some Broadway singers and folks that people
• 5:28
Speaker 6: will know that are going to be their singing.
• 5:29
Speaker 5: So we really hope you'll come out.
• 5:30
Speaker 6: It's a two hour concert, a dresses casual, so come
• 5:34
Speaker 6: up and come and show up and bring all your friends.
• 5:36
Speaker 4: Everyone be at the Capitol High School in their theater
• 5:39
Speaker 4: on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. And you said that
• 5:42
Speaker 4: we are although tickets are free, you are encouraging people
• 5:44
Speaker 4: to get their tickets out. Yes, because you don't want
• 5:46
Speaker 4: to run out of cooking.
• 5:47
  Speaker 5: That's exactly right.
• 5:48
Speaker 6: We just want to really keep a head count. But
• 5:50
Speaker 6: they have some beautiful music. They're a great choir and
• 5:53
Speaker 6: it's really something that Ronald Reagan dubbed them America's choir,
• 5:56
Speaker 6: and I think that they really are. I don't know
• 5:58
Speaker 6: that there's another organization quite like that.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: I mean, you start talking about longevity, I mean one
• 6:04
Speaker 4: hundred years still going and still yeah, I mean yeah,
• 6:08
Speaker 4: I mean one hundred and fifty three, it's still going strong.
• 6:10
Speaker 4: It's a hundred it's one hundred year anniversary of that
• 6:12
Speaker 4: first concept, that's correct. They've been around for one hundred
• 6:14
Speaker 4: and fifty three years, that's correct.
• 6:16
Speaker 6: So there are three hundred and sixty members in the choir,
• 6:19
Speaker 6: there's one hundred and ten in the orchestra, and.
• 6:20
Speaker 5: They tore all over the world.
• 6:23
Speaker 6: And to be in the choir, you have to be
• 6:26
Speaker 6: able to pass a music theory test, which is pretty rigorous,
• 6:30
Speaker 6: but anyone is allowed to audition. You are allowed to
• 6:34
Speaker 6: be in the choir for either twenty years or till
• 6:37
Speaker 6: you're sixty years old, whichever comes first. But you have
• 6:40
Speaker 6: to live within one hundred miles of Salt Lake City
• 6:41
Speaker 6: because you have to be able to attend the rehearsal. So,
• 6:44
Speaker 6: and it's one hundred percent volunteer. No one in that
• 6:47
  Speaker 6: choir gets paid.
• 6:49
Speaker 4: You mentioned Donnie Osmon. Yeah, calm down now. And the
• 6:55
Speaker 4: thing about Donnie is is I'll be honest with you.
• 6:57
Speaker 4: You know, Donnie looks. I mean, I enlarged the way
• 7:00
Speaker 4: he did when he was really on top of the
• 7:02
Speaker 4: world in the early nineteen seventies. Not a lot of
• 7:04
  Speaker 4: us can say.
• 7:05
  Speaker 5: That that's true. That's true.
• 7:07
Speaker 6: He had a dry spell in the eighties, and I
• 7:09
Speaker 6: remember watching him talk about the trouble that he had
• 7:13
Speaker 6: with that, and he just literally couldn't get arrested. And
• 7:17
Speaker 6: he talked to Michael Jackson and the only other person
• 7:19
Speaker 6: in the world that had the same experience growing up
• 7:22
Speaker 6: that he did, and said, what can I do?
• 7:23
Speaker 5: And he told him to change his name.
• 7:25
Speaker 6: He said, I can't do that. So he put out
• 7:28
Speaker 6: the recording of Soldier of Love in the air. I
• 7:30
Speaker 6: remember it well, didn't put his name on it. Nobody
• 7:33
Speaker 6: knew who it was, and the hype was crazy. Everybody
• 7:35
Speaker 6: wanted to know it was such a great song?
• 7:36
  Speaker 7: Is it?
• 7:36
  Speaker 8: Who is?
• 7:37
Speaker 6: And when he came on the radio and said it
• 7:39
Speaker 6: was Donnie Osman, I think people fell over. They couldn't
• 7:42
Speaker 6: believe it. I was really quite a talented man, and
• 7:45
  Speaker 6: I knew that.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: I knew the story very well because I was just
• 7:47
Speaker 4: breaking into radio at that time, and I actually played
• 7:50
Speaker 4: I'll age myself. I played the record on the radio. Okay,
• 7:53
Speaker 4: it was an actual forty five record we played, and
• 7:55
Speaker 4: I remember that. I remember that story because and then
• 7:58
Speaker 4: when it came out who he was, then they showed
• 8:02
Speaker 4: the video on MTV and who would have ever thought,
• 8:04
Speaker 4: you know that Donnie Osmond would have been on MTV.
• 8:06
Speaker 4: But I bring that up because you know he's he's
• 8:09
Speaker 4: very involved in this, and soever or other celebrities are
• 8:14
Speaker 4: as well. What do you think though about this choir
• 8:18
Speaker 4: Susan has had with the average music fan has led
• 8:25
Speaker 4: to their longevity. What is it about them that's had
• 8:28
Speaker 4: them around for one hundred and fifty three years and
• 8:30
Speaker 4: about to celebrate their one hundred anniversary of that concert
• 8:32
Speaker 4: at the Hollywood Ball What is it about them?
• 8:34
Speaker 6: Well, I'm going to be very honest with you. I
• 8:36
Speaker 6: think that it is absolutely the spirit that they bring
• 8:40
Speaker 6: with what they sing. So my husband and I were
• 8:42
Speaker 6: fortunate we have family in Salt Lake, and we were
• 8:45
Speaker 6: fortunate to go and visit a few years ago. And
• 8:47
Speaker 6: you can attend their rehearsals on Thursday nights for free.
• 8:50
Speaker 6: You can attend the tape that well it's not a taping,
• 8:53
Speaker 6: but you can attend the broad the live broadcast of
• 8:56
Speaker 6: music and the spoken word, and we did that. So
• 8:58
Speaker 6: you get there at the crack on and you listen
• 9:01
Speaker 6: to them rehearse, and then you listen to the live broadcast,
• 9:04
Speaker 6: and at the end of that show they always play
• 9:07
Speaker 6: a recorded part of the song God Be with You
• 9:09
Speaker 6: till We Meet Again, And when you're alive in the center,
• 9:15
Speaker 6: they don't play the recording. They have some of the
• 9:17
Speaker 6: members come down and sing it live. And I'm telling you,
• 9:19
Speaker 6: it absolutely raises the hair on the back of your neck.
• 9:22
Speaker 6: It is so special, and I really think that's what
• 9:25
Speaker 6: it is. I think that they all that participate in
• 9:29
Speaker 6: the choir, they're all members of the Church of Jesus
• 9:31
Speaker 6: Christ of Latter day Saints. They are all I think
• 9:36
Speaker 6: anyone that I've ever met that's been the choir. They've
• 9:38
Speaker 6: all been kind people. They really want to do a
• 9:41
Speaker 6: good job. They work hard, and I think it really shows,
• 9:45
Speaker 6: and I really do think that the blessings that they
• 9:49
Speaker 6: get from the service that they perform comes through the music.
• 9:52
Speaker 4: All right, give us all the details again. It's Saturday
• 9:54
Speaker 4: at two and take it from there at Capitol High.

• 10:33
Speaker 6: there'll be some secular music. And like I said, they

• 10:40
Speaker 6: the Battle Hand of the Republic.
• 10:41
Speaker 4: That's about a secular but yeah, so as a cast

Speaker 4: ago that a lot of West Virginia, from Greenbrier County
• 14:14
Speaker 4: to here in Canaw County were devastated by huge flooded events.
• 14:18
Speaker 4: We'll talk about it now with friends of the program,
• 14:21
Speaker 4: Clinton and Mayor Case Summers and fire Chief Jacob with
• 14:23
Speaker 4: Clinton and Mayor thank you for being here, and Jacob
• 14:26
Speaker 4: welcome to you as well, but Mayor appreciate you being
• 14:28
  Speaker 4: here as always.
• 14:28
Speaker 2: Well, thank you very much, and it's good to be here.
• 14:31
Speaker 2: Nice to see you.
• 14:31
Speaker 4: I think Jacob's ever been on the show before, so
• 14:33
Speaker 4: this is going to be his inaugural appearance. You'll have
• 14:36
Speaker 4: to kind of coach him along because you're a regular
• 14:37
  Speaker 4: on the show.
• 14:38
  Speaker 3: First time.
• 14:38
Speaker 4: You'll have to show well, just just take after her
• 14:42
Speaker 4: in trouble and then you'll be just fine. I want
• 14:45
Speaker 4: to start, I guess with the class because you you
• 14:49
Speaker 4: were not mayor at that time, all right, so I
• 14:51
Speaker 4: want to start with the classic Where were you on
• 14:55
Speaker 4: when when when the flood came? Where were you then, Mayor?
• 14:59
Speaker 2: I was home, and matter of fact, I was washing
• 15:04
Speaker 2: and I went to we have a off. Our home
• 15:08
Speaker 2: is above ground, and I went to our laundery room
• 15:11
Speaker 2: to take the clothes for the washer to the dryer,
• 15:14
Speaker 2: and I hauled up to my husband and see, Glenn,
• 15:17
Speaker 2: the floor's wet. The washer has overflowed. And so he
• 15:21
Speaker 2: came down. He said, no, the dream must have stopped
• 15:24
Speaker 2: up because the carpet's wet. And so we picked things
• 15:28
Speaker 2: up and put things outside to dry and went about
• 15:33
Speaker 2: our business. That was like.
• 15:34
Speaker 4: Three what time of day, it was about three.
• 15:36
Speaker 2: O'clock, about four o'clock, all Billy Heck broke close and
• 15:42
Speaker 2: started raining and raining and doing that stuff, and water
• 15:45
Speaker 2: sto started coming in the house and it was just terrible.
• 15:49
Speaker 2: Electric goes off and our main floor was getting water.
• 15:54
Speaker 2: We were getting calls, hey, we got to get you
• 15:56
Speaker 2: out of there, but they couldn't, and they wanted they
• 15:59
Speaker 2: sent a boat, and I said, no, we can. My
• 16:01
Speaker 2: husband said, we can stay here. We can go to
• 16:03
Speaker 2: the roof if we have to. And we had eight
• 16:06
  Speaker 2: feet in.
• 16:06
Speaker 4: Our house eight feet, yes, a lot of.
• 16:10
Speaker 2: Things broken, a lot of things lost, but Dave, one
• 16:14
Speaker 2: of the things about it. We've talked about it a lot,
• 16:17
Speaker 2: but like I'm using the word, I don't want to
• 16:21
Speaker 2: look in the rear view mirror anymore. And I heard
• 16:24
Speaker 2: you do the preampted, we are going to talk about
• 16:27
Speaker 2: the future because that's where we are, and it's taken
• 16:29
Speaker 2: us ten years to get here. A lot of tears,
• 16:32
Speaker 2: a lot of sweat, a lot of fights, but we've
• 16:36
Speaker 2: had a lot of good things happen for the town
• 16:38
  Speaker 2: of Clinton.
• 16:38
Speaker 4: And so Chief, were you, I guess you involved in
• 16:42
Speaker 4: the fine apartment at that time where you yes, it
• 16:43
Speaker 4: was okay, yeah, talk about your experience and then and
• 16:45
Speaker 4: then we're going to go forward, but go ahead.
• 16:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, So with my experience with the flood, it started
• 16:50
Speaker 3: off business as usual, a few calls for service, and
• 16:53
Speaker 3: then the rain started. And then the great thing about
• 16:56
Speaker 3: our fire department is we respond out of the area
• 16:58
Speaker 3: to help with swift water rescue and such things. And
• 17:02
Speaker 3: early in the afternoon in the northern part of the
• 17:04
Speaker 3: state call and said we need some assistance. So we
• 17:07
Speaker 3: started up, we worked our way up there, and then
• 17:09
Speaker 3: they called back and said, well, your town's flooding now,
• 17:12
Speaker 3: so we ended up going up and helping the people
• 17:15
Speaker 3: of rich Wood in that area, and then we came
• 17:18
Speaker 3: back and we staged, and we had a lot of
• 17:19
Speaker 3: other fire departments that came in and helped us during
• 17:21
Speaker 3: that time. But it with the with the rising floodwaters,
• 17:26
Speaker 3: we were trapped outside town, so we had to find
• 17:28
Speaker 3: some alternate routes in and what a crazy day we had.
• 17:31
Speaker 3: We had some of our members was in town during
• 17:34
Speaker 3: the time, so they commandeered some boats and provided assistance.
• 17:38
Speaker 3: I think they helped about eighty or ninety people over
• 17:41
Speaker 3: in town, nursing home, moving people to higher ground, things
• 17:45
Speaker 3: like that. So really good success with us. But it's
• 17:48
Speaker 3: something that swift water rescues, something that we do all
• 17:51
Speaker 3: the time. It's our specialty for our fire department, and
• 17:55
Speaker 3: it was really really big for us to have that
• 17:57
Speaker 3: in place for the flood.
• 17:59
Speaker 4: When you know, you're a first responder and this is
• 18:02
Speaker 4: what you do for a living, but it takes on
• 18:04
Speaker 4: a little added responsibility when it is people that I mean,
• 18:09
Speaker 4: everybody in Clintona knows each other. I'm from a small town.
• 18:11
Speaker 4: I get that as well, but when you see this
• 18:14
Speaker 4: and possibly happening because the mayor, you know, had issues.
• 18:17
Speaker 4: She wouldn't Mariage time, but she had issues in her home.
• 18:19
Speaker 4: You probably did in your home as well. I mean
• 18:21
Speaker 4: that adds a little added level of stress to it.
• 18:24
Speaker 3: I would think, oh, yeah, that was something that happened
• 18:27
Speaker 3: a couple days later for myself, but I definitely was affected.
• 18:30
Speaker 3: And it's hard to separate trying to do stuff for
• 18:33
Speaker 3: my community. I'm trying to be involved and help everybody else,
• 18:35
Speaker 3: but things like well, I really need to go home
• 18:37
Speaker 3: and take care of my house too, because again, just
• 18:40
Speaker 3: like the mayor, I had about eighteen inches of water
• 18:42
Speaker 3: in my apartment at the time that I was living
• 18:45
Speaker 3: at and all my stuff was in storage and unfortunately
• 18:47
Speaker 3: it was in the basement. So you definitely have to
• 18:50
Speaker 3: take care of yourself. Us as first responders were not
• 18:52
Speaker 3: near as good as as we like to talk about,
• 18:54
Speaker 3: but it's definitely something that factors into our day.
• 18:57
Speaker 4: Were you prepared for like when you god because you know,
• 19:00
Speaker 4: you said you had some of your members in town
• 19:03
Speaker 4: somewhere out where you prepared for what you saw when
• 19:07
Speaker 4: you get in the town. Because I mean, this is
• 19:09
Speaker 4: whether people say this is a thousand year event.
• 19:11
Speaker 3: No, and I had been to a few flooding events
• 19:14
Speaker 3: and many afterwards, but this is by far the worst
• 19:17
Speaker 3: flooding event that I've seen devastated town. And it's really
• 19:20
Speaker 3: hard to walk into a place that you're there every
• 19:21
Speaker 3: day and be like, wow, there's there's ten foot of
• 19:24
Speaker 3: water where it's normally not and there's all these people
• 19:26
Speaker 3: displaced and ever so much destruction. It's it's almost like
• 19:31
Speaker 3: being in a war zone when you go to these
• 19:33
Speaker 3: places and it's just terrible to see and you know
• 19:35
Speaker 3: that all these families are suffering and all these people
• 19:37
Speaker 3: are going to suffer, and it's it's just it's hard
• 19:39
Speaker 3: to be a part of you know, you want to do.
• 19:41
Speaker 3: You want to be there, to be for the citizens
• 19:43
Speaker 3: and to take care of them, but it's it's difficult.
• 19:46
Speaker 4: And floods are disgusting things. I mean, I say that
• 19:48
Speaker 4: it's because it's just the smell afterwards, and and it's
• 19:53
Speaker 4: not something I mean and mayor you saw to. I mean,
• 19:58
Speaker 4: a lot of areas get flooded several times and you're like, okay,
• 20:01
Speaker 4: well a month, two, three, we'll be back to normal.
• 20:04
Speaker 4: This took a little bit of time. It took a
• 20:06
Speaker 4: lot of time for not only your area, but others.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: And I'll tell a quick story I was working in
• 20:10
Speaker 4: I went to work for the state state government in
• 20:13
Speaker 4: January twenty seventeen. I made my first trip into Clindenna.
• 20:17
Speaker 4: Now again, the flood was in June of twenty sixteen.
• 20:19
Speaker 4: My first trip into Clindena in an official role with
• 20:23
Speaker 4: state government was in twenty seventeen, and I went into
• 20:27
Speaker 4: town thinking, okay, well I'd seen it on TV and whatever,
• 20:31
Speaker 4: this it's going to be back to normal and it
• 20:34
Speaker 4: and it wasn't. It wasn't back to normal, and it took.
• 20:37
Speaker 4: It took time for things to get back to normal
• 20:40
Speaker 4: and to get where you are now.
• 20:41
Speaker 2: There it is taken. It's still today, it's ongoing it.
• 20:45
Speaker 2: You know, I think, I think we're going to be
• 20:48
Speaker 2: better than we were. And Jacob and I were talking
• 20:51
Speaker 2: about that before the flood. Glindenna started slipping a little bit.
• 20:55
Speaker 2: As you know, back in the day it was a
• 20:57
Speaker 2: very successful, wealthy taie on and things had gone down
• 21:01
Speaker 2: even before the flood, and so our bad a lot
• 21:07
Speaker 2: of good cane and that's but it's taking us time.
• 21:11
Speaker 2: It takes resources to get to that good and that's
• 21:16
Speaker 2: that's our problem. That's what we've been working on, and
• 21:19
Speaker 2: what we want to do this weekend is Jacob, don't
• 21:22
Speaker 2: you tell them about what you're going to do first
• 21:24
Speaker 2: to thank the folks.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, So we're gonna have a great celebration this weekend.
• 21:28
Speaker 3: We're starting off on Friday night at six pm. There's
• 21:32
Speaker 3: a lineup for a first responder appreciation parade. So we're
• 21:36
Speaker 3: really trying to thank everyone that came to our assistance,
• 21:38
Speaker 3: emergency responders wise, for this evening. We had so much help.
• 21:42
Speaker 3: Thirty plus fire departments and ems and law enforcement and
• 21:45
Speaker 3: different people came out to help us. We just want
• 21:48
Speaker 3: to show them more appreciation. We obviously did after the flood,
• 21:50
Speaker 3: but now after we've recovered, we're like, hey, thank you
• 21:54
Speaker 3: guys for everything that you've done. So we're doing a
• 21:56
Speaker 3: parade at seven pm through town, and then afterwards we're
• 21:59
Speaker 3: feeding every I think we'll be serving barbecue sandwiches and
• 22:03
Speaker 3: in the sides and things, and so we're gonna feed
• 22:05
Speaker 3: everybody and think them. And then on Saturday, starting in eleven,
• 22:08
Speaker 3: will be our inaugural open house, the first one we're doing.
• 22:13
Speaker 3: We're celebrating seventy five years of service to the Town
• 22:16
Speaker 3: of Clinton in our community, and that will be from
• 22:19
Speaker 3: eleven to six. One of things for the kids to
• 22:21
Speaker 3: come out and do. We're talking about fire prevention, talk
• 22:23
Speaker 3: about recruiting. Let everybody see what's going on. We've been
• 22:27
Speaker 3: so blessed after the flood. Of all the things we've accomplished,
• 22:30
Speaker 3: the biggest one to date so far as we've gotten
• 22:33
Speaker 3: a federal grant for a new ladder truck. Only about
• 22:35
Speaker 3: two places in the country get one every year. We
• 22:39
Speaker 3: were fortunate to get one the year before last. And
• 22:43
Speaker 3: so we want everybody to see what we're doing. For
• 22:45
Speaker 3: everybody to come out and know that anytime they want
• 22:47
Speaker 3: to see what we're doing in the fire department, that
• 22:49
Speaker 3: they can just knock on the door and we'll be
• 22:50
  Speaker 3: there for them.
• 22:51
Speaker 4: And for those who may not know, what does a
• 22:53
Speaker 4: new ladder truck cost?
• 22:55
Speaker 3: Yes, yes, there's a sticker shock for that one. We're
• 22:59
Speaker 3: looking at one point seven million dollars for a new
• 23:01
  Speaker 3: ladder truck.
• 23:03
Speaker 4: Not exactly buying a fourth one fifty.
• 23:05
Speaker 3: No, No, it's it's it's definitely changed a lot. So unfortunately,
• 23:09
Speaker 3: you know, the grant pays a million, which is great. Obviously,
• 23:14
Speaker 3: it's what got us to this point. But you know,
• 23:16
Speaker 3: the Clinton Fire Department is on the hook for about
• 23:18
Speaker 3: seven hundred thousand dollars, so we are always looking for
• 23:22
Speaker 3: donations of fundraisers, fundraisers from the community. We're always looking
• 23:26
Speaker 3: for support because there's just some things we can do.
• 23:29
Speaker 3: So the federal government thinks we need it, and we
• 23:31
Speaker 3: have a lot of industry and stuff in our area,
• 23:33
Speaker 3: so it's going to be really good for everybody.
• 23:35
Speaker 4: We're talking again with the mayor of Clinton and Case
• 23:37
Speaker 4: Summers and Jacob Clinton and who's the fire chief there
• 23:39
Speaker 4: of a Dave Island show on five eighty line brought
• 23:41
Speaker 4: to you in part Bye with Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds
• 23:43
Speaker 4: continue their series against York tonight at Go mart Ballpark.
• 23:46
Speaker 4: Tonight is Redneck Night. Cut the sleeves off your favorite flannel.
• 23:49
Speaker 4: This is their words, Mayor, Cut the sleeves off your
• 23:52
Speaker 4: favorite flannel, dig out your finest dinnim and get ready
• 23:54
Speaker 4: to celebrate all things redneck. Show off your mullet two
• 23:57
Speaker 4: and the farmers tan. You can check out Dirty Baseball
• 24:00
Speaker 4: dot com if you need more information about that. Mayor,
• 24:02
Speaker 4: I want to talk about the growth that came out
• 24:04
Speaker 4: of this as you said, sometimes you know, you have
• 24:07
Speaker 4: a tragedy and one of two things can happen. You
• 24:09
Speaker 4: can either fold up tent and you can say that's it,
• 24:12
Speaker 4: or you can rebound and you can say we're going
• 24:14
Speaker 4: to make it bigger and better than ever. And it's
• 24:16
Speaker 4: not always it's not political figures you know that always
• 24:19
Speaker 4: do this. It's the people of the town. And they
• 24:22
Speaker 4: really responded and said we're going to rebound from this,
• 24:25
Speaker 4: and they did it in a very very big way.
• 24:27
Speaker 4: Every time I turn around, you guys have got something
• 24:30
Speaker 4: going on in Clinton and a new business opening whatever.
• 24:33
  Speaker 4: Talk about that.
• 24:33
Speaker 2: Well, First of all, thank you for supporting us because
• 24:36
Speaker 2: everything going on in Clinton and I always share with you,
• 24:38
Speaker 2: and you do share on the station. You know, some
• 24:43
Speaker 2: good things like our churches. All of our churches were
• 24:47
Speaker 2: basically almost destroyed, and people came. We had visitors from
• 24:53
Speaker 2: every state in the United States. It came and helped us.
• 24:57
Speaker 2: Every once a week. Everybody came for a week, stayed
• 25:00
Speaker 2: right and plus all the local people. But we got
• 25:04
Speaker 2: we got a new school. We've got a new Herbert
• 25:06
Speaker 2: Hoover High School. It took seven years to get in there.
• 25:09
Speaker 2: We got a new Clinton and elementary and both of
• 25:12
Speaker 2: those were old, old, old, and we're used duct tape
• 25:16
Speaker 2: to keep it together. We uh, like I say, the church,
• 25:19
Speaker 2: we got a grocery store. We got the grocery store.
• 25:23
Speaker 2: We're cleaning up the river. We're cleaning up all the
• 25:26
Speaker 2: We've had to tear down a lot of houses and
• 25:28
Speaker 2: we're building new houses. Uh. We're using the river very
• 25:32
Speaker 2: much as a resource now.
• 25:33
Speaker 4: Which is kind of I mean, it's kind of ironic,
• 25:37
Speaker 4: but yeah, it's that. But I mean, if God gave
• 25:41
Speaker 4: it to you, you may as well use it for good, right.
• 25:43
Speaker 2: That's right. And so uh we a small thing you
• 25:46
Speaker 2: might think is small, but we built stairs down to
• 25:49
Speaker 2: the river so when people are kayaking or tubing or whatever,
• 25:54
Speaker 2: they can bring in and park and walk up the
• 25:56
Speaker 2: steps and be in downtown Glendon to go get Sunday
• 26:00
Speaker 2: to eat or drink. But it's just I mean, there's
• 26:03
Speaker 2: so many stories we could tell you, but I'm just
• 26:06
Speaker 2: happy that it has taken a long time to get cleaned up.
• 26:10
Speaker 2: Is take. We've lot people with people left, the people
• 26:14
Speaker 2: come back and we have new people. And we were
• 26:17
Speaker 2: talking about that that's moved in from Alas State. They
• 26:20
Speaker 2: can work remote from home, and we have people from California, Maine, Massachusetts, Chicago.
• 26:27
Speaker 2: It's unreal the number of people we have. But I'd
• 26:31
Speaker 2: like to say this weekend, Jacob Fire Department in the
• 26:34
Speaker 2: town of Clinton are going to have a big, big
• 26:36
Speaker 2: celebration on the street. We have a lot of things
• 26:38
Speaker 2: for the kids. We have bands all day, fireworks in
• 26:42
Speaker 2: the evening, and our main band is going to be
• 26:46
Speaker 2: Rewind the Walkman, and that's I think everybody likes that
• 26:50
Speaker 2: likes him. And we have the Steve's Smith Band, We
• 26:55
Speaker 2: have the carpenter Ants and so we have a lot
• 26:58
Speaker 2: of people that are gonna be play and we have
• 27:01
Speaker 2: gospel singing. First two songs will be gospel groups and
• 27:06
Speaker 2: we go from there to fireworks in the evening. So
• 27:09
Speaker 2: we're gonna be busy X number of food trucks and
• 27:14
Speaker 2: lots of vendors on the street. And it's going to rain.
• 27:18
  Speaker 4: Well, I mean it's you know, it's there's chance of
• 27:21
Speaker 4: rain in the forecast. It's Wednesday. Things can change, things
• 27:26
Speaker 4: can change. But we got our own meteorologist at the
• 27:28
Speaker 4: building now, Brian Hughes, you know, so I can work
• 27:31
Speaker 4: with you on that.
• 27:33
  Speaker 12: Let us know.
• 27:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I will let you know how it works.
• 27:37
Speaker 4: You know, it is interesting you know that you talked
• 27:39
Speaker 4: about people moving into Clenden and from out of state,
• 27:42
Speaker 4: because that's the story that we need to hear more
• 27:44
Speaker 4: of throughout the state of West Virginia. Not only do
• 27:46
Speaker 4: we have a major issue with our people leaving UH,
• 27:50
Speaker 4: but our younger people specifically, they either after high school,
• 27:55
Speaker 4: they go into the military, they go to a trade
• 27:56
Speaker 4: school or whatever they get and then they go back.
• 27:59
Speaker 4: I mean, what are you because I think a lot
• 28:01
Speaker 4: of cities, mayor around the state would like to know
• 28:03
Speaker 4: your secret. How are you getting how are you in
• 28:06
Speaker 4: the town getting people to move into Clintenna right now?
• 28:08
Speaker 4: What are you doing?
• 28:09
  Speaker 13: Well?
• 28:09
Speaker 2: You know, we're cleaning up the town we have UH.
• 28:12
Speaker 2: When people come to town, they talk about how neat,
• 28:14
Speaker 2: how clean. But we have the outdoor activities we have.
• 28:19
Speaker 2: You can do mountain climbing, you can do water, different
• 28:22
Speaker 2: water exercises that you can do, biking, There's just so
• 28:25
  Speaker 2: many things. Plus it's a quaint We're a small country
• 28:29
Speaker 2: town and that's who we are, and we're very welcoming.
• 28:32
Speaker 2: We like to have people. We welcome them and everybody
• 28:36
Speaker 2: who comes, like the people who own the brewery. Now.
• 28:40
Speaker 2: They came here and said immediately they loved it, they
• 28:43
Speaker 2: loved the people, and now they have the brewery and
• 28:45
Speaker 2: doing really well and helping our town economically.
• 28:48
Speaker 4: So are you from clint Ennen? Originally, yes, sir, I am.
• 28:51
Speaker 4: Are you from Clinten? I mean you got it in
• 28:53
Speaker 4: your name, so I'm assuming somebody in your family found
• 28:56
Speaker 4: the town or something.
• 28:57
Speaker 3: No funny story. They actually named it after us. We
• 29:00
Speaker 3: went for a long time thinking that we founded it,
• 29:02
Speaker 3: but after doing a bunch of research, they actually just
• 29:04
Speaker 3: named it after us. Our family actually found a Charleston
• 29:08
Speaker 3: We were the first settlers of Charleston area, and they
• 29:11
Speaker 3: they liked our family so well they decided to name
• 29:14
Speaker 3: the town after us up there.
• 29:15
Speaker 4: So there you go.
• 29:16
  Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty neat.
• 29:17
Speaker 4: Talk about I mean, because you grew up in Clindon
• 29:20
Speaker 4: and so talking about growing up in Clinton and what
• 29:23
Speaker 4: it was like and how that relates to the current time.
• 29:27
Speaker 4: So I mean, because it sounds like you're trying to
• 29:28
Speaker 4: get back to that.
• 29:29
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't realize as a as a young kid
• 29:32
Speaker 3: how great the town was, but until until you leave there,
• 29:36
Speaker 3: it never do right. But it's it's such a nice town.
• 29:39
Speaker 3: Kids can run around all the such a family atmosphere.
• 29:43
Speaker 3: There's things for kids to do, there's biking and all that.
• 29:46
Speaker 3: But but it's just such a family atmosphere and that
• 29:49
Speaker 3: was what we really liked about it. And then when
• 29:51
Speaker 3: my wife and I moved back, uh, we were gone
• 29:53
Speaker 3: for just a couple of years, for a short stint.
• 29:56
Speaker 3: It's just so nice and I think about raising my
• 29:58
Speaker 3: little boy there. I'm like, I don't want to leave.
• 30:00
Speaker 3: This is great. There's so much there's so much for
• 30:02
Speaker 3: us to do. There's so much to walk around that
• 30:04
Speaker 3: we have the Elk River Trail, you know, we want
• 30:06
Speaker 3: to get out and exercise and things like that. It's
• 30:09
Speaker 3: just a really nice family town. And the mayor has
• 30:11
Speaker 3: been very modest, but she is out there telling everyone
• 30:15
Speaker 3: how great the town is. And that's why I think
• 30:17
Speaker 3: people are starting to say this could be a nice
• 30:20
Speaker 3: area to move to. So when we already got the
• 30:22
Speaker 3: schools now, which is a big thing for parents as well.
• 30:24
Speaker 3: So just a really nice family atmosphere for a town,
• 30:27
Speaker 3: great place to live.
• 30:28
Speaker 4: Well, it's a great story. I mean, you know, out
• 30:30
Speaker 4: of tragedy because both of you were in town on
• 30:34
Speaker 4: that day in the months that followed. I'm sure neither
• 30:36
Speaker 4: one of you ever thought. You probably thought, as I said,
• 30:38
Speaker 4: it's it's just time to put the put the tarp
• 30:41
Speaker 4: on the whole town and call it a day. Yeah,
• 30:45
Speaker 4: But the way that it is rebounded, I think is remarkable,
• 30:48
Speaker 4: and I think it goes not to be too sappy here,
• 30:50
Speaker 4: but I think it goes to the spirit of West
• 30:52
Speaker 4: Virginians because what happened in CLINTONNA happened in other towns
• 30:56
Speaker 4: as well, and it could happen to to towns in
• 30:59
Speaker 4: the future. And I think you had a great story.
• 31:00
Speaker 4: Mayor in Chief, Glendona, and I appreciate you both being there.
• 31:03
Speaker 4: Give us all the details on the big activities again
• 31:05
  Speaker 4: this weekend.
• 31:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, So for the fire department activities, there'll be a
• 31:08
Speaker 3: fire opparatus first responder parade starting at seven o'clock going
• 31:12
Speaker 3: through town. We'll do a nice big lap and then
• 31:15
Speaker 3: there'll be food afterwards for everyone. And then on starting
• 31:19
Speaker 3: Saturday morning at eleven am, we'll do our open house.
• 31:22
Speaker 3: Everybay come and see us and find activities for the kids,
• 31:26
Speaker 3: some free foods, some popcorns and hot dogs, things like that,
• 31:30
Speaker 3: let everybody know we're here, and then we're doing fireworks
• 31:32
Speaker 3: that evening, and then also the town's doing a lot
• 31:35
Speaker 3: of great stuff on Saturday as well.
• 31:36
Speaker 2: You want to take it over the town stuff there
• 31:38
Speaker 2: the town, Like I say, we're starting at ten forty
• 31:41
Speaker 2: five with a pledge national anthem, and from there we
• 31:45
Speaker 2: go till nine thirty with the fireworks. We have a
• 31:48
Speaker 2: lot of things, like he said, for the children, we
• 31:50
Speaker 2: have a lot of things for the adults. We have
• 31:53
Speaker 2: a new Mexican restaurant by the way, and I said
• 31:56
Speaker 2: about all the food trucks, but we're real excited about
• 31:58
  Speaker 2: that too.
• 32:00
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 32:00
Speaker 4: You get a regular culinary scene going on.
• 32:02
Speaker 2: There, we do, buddy. We are big time now. And
• 32:04
Speaker 2: uh we got a new clock, our clock on the corner. Soide,
• 32:08
Speaker 2: I can't wait for everybody chimes nice and we have
• 32:11
Speaker 2: uh hell, we have West Virginia the song that our
• 32:15
Speaker 2: baseball players made famous for US.
• 32:18
Speaker 4: Chimes country does. How cool is that? Now? Where does
• 32:21
Speaker 4: one to acquire a clock that does that?
• 32:24
Speaker 2: Well, we did it in Clinton and we found it. Buddy.
• 32:26
Speaker 2: I I'll play it for you, but you have to
• 32:29
Speaker 2: come up and see it. But uh, it's going automatically
• 32:32
Speaker 2: do it like three times a day and then other
• 32:35
Speaker 2: things will chimes. There's more than one song.
• 32:37
  Speaker 8: There's a song.
• 32:39
Speaker 2: Uh, but we're not gonna play it's gonna be classy.
• 32:41
Speaker 2: We're not gonna play it all the time, you know.
• 32:43
Speaker 2: And uh but we just have lots we have lots
• 32:46
Speaker 2: of things and everything's free for our kids. We have
• 32:49
Speaker 2: face painting, we have all the uh bouncy toys and
• 32:53
Speaker 2: games and uh we have a little duck pond Lassy does.
• 33:00
Speaker 2: And so people will be kaking on the river and
• 33:03
Speaker 2: all that. Just a big day wet rains.
• 33:07
Speaker 4: Well, Mayor, We appreciate you being here. You're always a
• 33:09
Speaker 4: joy to have on the show. And Chief Cleandana thank
• 33:12
Speaker 4: you for being here as well. Appreciate you both being here.
• 33:15
Speaker 4: And what a great story you had a Clinton and
• 33:17
Speaker 4: everybody head up there this weekend. So there's going to
• 33:19
Speaker 4: be a little bit of rain. You've obviously gone through
• 33:21
Speaker 4: rain before you and you came out on the other
• 33:25
Speaker 4: end a little bit better for it. All right, We
• 33:26
Speaker 4: appreciate you both being here. Thanks well, thank you. Thanks.

Speaker 4: than it was ten years ago, and a lot of
• 35:52
Speaker 4: that is because of Mayor Summers. She's wonderful, says a texture.
• 35:57
  Speaker 4: I have to agree. I mean she's done a lot
• 35:59
Speaker 4: of great things up there. If you are from in
• 36:03
Speaker 4: the entire town, not just her, and she'd be the
• 36:04
Speaker 4: first to say that. If you are from Kanas City
• 36:06
Speaker 4: or have a business there, this segment is for you.
• 36:09
Speaker 4: I want to bring in Aaron Wood now from the
• 36:10
Speaker 4: Kanah City Community Association. Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
• 36:13
Speaker 4: Good morning. It's a tough act to follow following Mayor
• 36:15
Speaker 4: of Summers, you know that it is. That was quite
• 36:18
Speaker 4: the story. And she comes right up to you and says, oh,
• 36:20
Speaker 4: by the way, we use your services, and so it's
• 36:25
Speaker 4: it's just the mayor, you know, it's just the way.
• 36:27
Speaker 4: That's the way in the my area is all right.
• 36:28
Speaker 4: So tell me about this association, Kana City Community Association.
• 36:32
Speaker 14: Well, I took over as president of Kanas City Community
• 36:35
Speaker 14: Association this past year and we've made some changes and
• 36:39
Speaker 14: I'm trying to make Kanal City a better place to live.
• 36:43
Speaker 14: You know, I live there, my kids are growing up there,
• 36:46
Speaker 14: and you know, we have these quarterly meetings with city
• 36:50
Speaker 14: officials every quarter and you know, I was on the
• 36:55
Speaker 14: board before, and we'd have the quarterly meetings and two
• 36:58
Speaker 14: or three people would show up, and I was like, well,
• 37:00
Speaker 14: why are we even having these quarterly meetings? So I
• 37:04
Speaker 14: took over and I advertised the meetings. I created a
• 37:07
Speaker 14: new website, put the meetings on the website, put the
• 37:09
Speaker 14: meetings on the Facebook page, months and months and months
• 37:11
Speaker 14: in advance. And we had our first quarterly meeting and
• 37:14
Speaker 14: two people showed up, and I'm like, I don't understand, Like,
• 37:18
Speaker 14: all these people are complaining about Canall City. All these
• 37:22
Speaker 14: people are complaining about the new gomart. You know, I
• 37:25
Speaker 14: see tons and tons and tons and tons of complaints online,
• 37:30
Speaker 14: but no one wants to show up and do anything
• 37:32
Speaker 14: about it. So I'm trying to choose here to be
• 37:34
Speaker 14: a keyboard commando, very much so very much so. So
• 37:38
Speaker 14: I'm I'm here really to challenge the residents of Kanall
• 37:42
Speaker 14: City to take the time to come to our next
• 37:47
  Speaker 14: quarterly meeting.
• 37:47
Speaker 4: And when is it.
• 37:49
Speaker 14: Our next quarterly meeting is tomorrow Thursday from six to
• 37:53
Speaker 14: seven pm at the City National Bank. They're in Kanall City.
• 37:58
Speaker 14: There's plenty of parking. It's a nice, large air conditioned room,
• 38:04
Speaker 14: and you know, thirteen different city officials usually show up
• 38:09
Speaker 14: for this from the City of Charles. From the City
• 38:10
Speaker 14: of Charles, the mayor, the Mayor's office, city zoning, city planning,
• 38:16
Speaker 14: several city councilmen show up from the area. The chief
• 38:21
Speaker 14: of police is there. You know, if you have an
• 38:24
Speaker 14: issue with your city officials or something going on in
• 38:27
Speaker 14: the city, they will address it at that meeting and
• 38:30
Speaker 14: they will try to fix it.
• 38:32
Speaker 4: And what we try and the reason I have you
• 38:34
Speaker 4: here and Aaron, Now, of course we've been on the
• 38:36
Speaker 4: show several times in the past, but I just happened,
• 38:38
Speaker 4: like a lot of people, I just saw your social
• 38:40
Speaker 4: media posts. I don't even living Kansas City, but I
• 38:42
Speaker 4: saw this yesterday and that's why I reached out to
• 38:44
Speaker 4: you and I said, you need to come on the
• 38:45
Speaker 4: show and talk about this because in our society now,
• 38:48
Speaker 4: these phones that we all have has made it way
• 38:51
Speaker 4: too easy to just complain. I was going to say
• 38:54
Speaker 4: something started with the being with an itch, but you
• 38:55
Speaker 4: know what I mean about activities without actually doing something
• 39:00
Speaker 4: about it. So you have an opportunity if you have
• 39:02
Speaker 4: issues or if you got praise, that's fine too. For
• 39:06
Speaker 4: Kanos City, this meeting is going to be tomorrow night
• 39:08
Speaker 4: six until seven at City National in Kanas City, free
• 39:12
Speaker 4: of charge, plenty of free parking, and you are going
• 39:15
Speaker 4: to have officials from the City of Charleston that are
• 39:18
Speaker 4: going to be there. Average would you say, like eight
• 39:20
Speaker 4: ten normally come as as far as the city officials.
• 39:22
Speaker 14: City oh the last meaning we had thirteen city officials
• 39:26
  Speaker 14: and two residents.
• 39:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's what happened. And that's not exclusive to
• 39:33
Speaker 4: Kanos City. That happens a lot of place. People go
• 39:35
Speaker 4: online and complain, but they're not willing to go to
• 39:37
Speaker 4: these meetings and to address the people that can actually
• 39:40
  Speaker 4: help them.
• 39:42
Speaker 14: Well, I think Kanos City is kind of different. I
• 39:44
Speaker 14: don't know of any other the suburbs that actually do
• 39:47
Speaker 14: a quarterly meeting with city officials. And you know, I
• 39:51
Speaker 14: think if we don't get a good turnout, We're probably
• 39:54
Speaker 14: not going to do the quarterly meetings anymore. We'll just
• 39:56
Speaker 14: do one annual meeting where the mayor comes in and
• 39:59
Speaker 14: does presentation in September and goes over the numbers and
• 40:04
Speaker 14: everything that's been happening with the city to update our residents,
• 40:07
Speaker 14: but to bring in the mayor and all of our
• 40:11
Speaker 14: staff and have two people come as the president of
• 40:15
Speaker 14: Kano City Association. That's kind of embarrassing, you know, to
• 40:18
Speaker 14: waste the mayor's time like that.
• 40:20
Speaker 4: And these meetings are open. I mean, obviously you want
• 40:22
Speaker 4: to get Kano City residents there, but I would imagine
• 40:24
Speaker 4: they're open to businesses as well. So if you live
• 40:28
Speaker 4: in another county even and you own a business at
• 40:30
Speaker 4: Kanos City, you're still welcome to come. Absolutely.
• 40:33
Speaker 14: I think the business owners are the ones that also
• 40:34
Speaker 14: should be shown up more than the residents.
• 40:37
  Speaker 4: You know, the.
• 40:38
Speaker 14: Business climate in Kanos City seems to be getting a
• 40:41
Speaker 14: little bit better. We have several new businesses that have
• 40:44
Speaker 14: popped up in Kanos City over the past few months.
• 40:48
Speaker 14: I know we do have several large stores that have
• 40:50
Speaker 14: shut down, but hopefully if someone comes to the meeting
• 40:55
Speaker 14: with an idea that can be implemented, maybe we can
• 40:57
Speaker 14: spur some additional economic growth in there as well.
• 41:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, we're talking with Aaron What from the Kanaal City
• 41:04
Speaker 4: Community Association. This meeting is going to be tomorrow night
• 41:07
Speaker 4: six to seven at City National. Plenty of free parking
• 41:09
Speaker 4: there in Kanal City for people to come out and
• 41:12
  Speaker 4: just talk. It's not a high pressure, it's not a
• 41:14
Speaker 4: formal thing or anything like that. You just come in
• 41:16
Speaker 4: just a little roundtable discussion.
• 41:18
Speaker 14: Yeah, it's it's roundtable. You have the opportunity to ask
• 41:21
Speaker 14: the mayor direct questions. You have the opportunity to ask
• 41:24
Speaker 14: city planning direct questions. You have the opportunity to talk
• 41:26
Speaker 14: to our police chief and ask him direct questions. There's
• 41:29
Speaker 14: not really a lot of opportunities where you get that
• 41:33
Speaker 14: here in Charleston. And at the last meeting, you know,
• 41:37
Speaker 14: we have identified several traffic pattern concerns that the city
• 41:41
Speaker 14: planning was going to address. We had several concerns for
• 41:46
Speaker 14: our chief of police, which he addressed. So it's it's
• 41:49
Speaker 14: not a waste of time. It really isn't. If you're
• 41:52
Speaker 14: a resident or a business owner in Kanal City, you
• 41:54
Speaker 14: really need to come out and make our city a
• 41:58
Speaker 14: better place to live.
• 41:59
Speaker 4: And people always, no matter what the community is, there
• 42:01
Speaker 4: and people always want to say they want to talk
• 42:03
Speaker 4: about transparency and things of that nature, and well they
• 42:06
Speaker 4: don't care no matter what this city is what they
• 42:08
Speaker 4: don't care. Well, here's an opportunity for you to talk

Speaker 4: to them and say, look, I have an issue with
• 42:13
Speaker 4: crime in my community. I have an issue with potholes,
• 42:16
Speaker 4: and sometimes they can't do a lot about potholes, but
• 42:18
Speaker 4: they can at least hear it. You know, I've got
• 42:20
Speaker 4: an issue with this traffic as you said or whatever.
• 42:22
Speaker 4: You got all of these officials from this city that
• 42:25
Speaker 4: are going to be there to listen to you, to
• 42:27
Speaker 4: take notes one on one and try to get something done.
• 42:30
Speaker 4: It's a golden opportunity for residents of Kanas City, business
• 42:32
Speaker 4: owners and whatever to take advantage of it. Yeah. Absolutely.
• 42:35
Speaker 14: At the last meeting, we identified a couple encampments, some
• 42:39
Speaker 14: homeless that had put up tents and we're living in
• 42:42
Speaker 14: certain areas in Kanas City, and the Chief of police
• 42:45
Speaker 14: addressed both of those. He cleaned them both out. They're
• 42:48
Speaker 14: no longer there, so you know, it does work. It
• 42:52
Speaker 14: does work. Things will get done if you come to
• 42:54
Speaker 14: the meeting and address the problems.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: Do you have a Facebook page or a website or
• 42:57
  Speaker 4: anything like that.
• 42:58
Speaker 14: Yeah, we have a Facebook page on City Community Association.
• 43:01
Speaker 14: All of our events, yard sales meetings are listed on
• 43:06
Speaker 14: the Facebook page. We also have a website kanoscity dot
• 43:10
Speaker 14: org that list all of the meetings. It's actually interactive.
• 43:14
Speaker 14: You can join and we have a forum, so there's
• 43:17
Speaker 14: lots of opportunities here to get involved in your community
• 43:22
Speaker 14: and help Kanos City become what it used to be
• 43:26
Speaker 14: a better place to raise our families.
• 43:27
Speaker 4: Well, I'm hoping that having you on the show will
• 43:29
Speaker 4: spur a few because you've got to get better than two,
• 43:32
  Speaker 4: you know, because I mean so, I know there's a
• 43:35
Speaker 4: lot of people because I have social media too, and
• 43:37
Speaker 4: that said, I don't live in the area, but I
• 43:39
Speaker 4: see the concerns and other communities. While people are always

• 44:02
Speaker 4: the city or every area of the county have an
• 44:04
  Speaker 4: organization like this.
• 44:06
Speaker 14: Right they don't. I would say most organizations or most
• 44:12
Speaker 14: districts and within the City of Charleston don't have an
• 44:15
Speaker 14: active board that is trying to make their city a
• 44:19
Speaker 14: better place to live.
• 44:20
  Speaker 3: All Right, we.
• 44:21
Speaker 4: Appreciate you being here. Good luck. Hope to report next

• 48:43
Speaker 4: helping to organize the concert here in Charleston that said
• 48:46
Speaker 4: that that I am mistakenly referred to it as the
• 48:48
Speaker 4: Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I learned something today. Apparently they do
• 48:52
Speaker 4: not like the term Mormon, and they've dropped Mormon from
• 48:55
Speaker 4: the title, and miss Castorf said that it was a
• 48:57
Speaker 4: derogatory term. I did not know that, and I learned
• 49:01
Speaker 4: that today, So you know, you learn stuff every now

Speaker 4: and then. Text says there's an encampment starting by the

• 49:14
Speaker 4: with what Aaron said, though, I mean, so many times
• 49:18
Speaker 4: people want to complain and this is not This is
• 49:21
Speaker 4: not a knock on Kanas City. This is the same
• 49:23
Speaker 4: in every community across America. Everybody wants to complain, They
• 49:26
Speaker 4: want to mow they put things on social media, but
• 49:29
Speaker 4: when they have an event and it's well publicized, I
• 49:33
Speaker 4: don't even live in Kanas City, and I knew about
• 49:35
Speaker 4: it well before I brought Aaron Wood on the show. Today,
• 49:38
Speaker 4: two people show up, two people to meet with the
• 49:40
Speaker 4: mayor's staff, to meet with city council people, police, you know,
• 49:46
Speaker 4: all the emergency you name it. I mean, well over
• 49:49
Speaker 4: ten people were there from the City of Charleston and
• 49:51
Speaker 4: two residents when they had their last meeting. Because it's
• 49:53
Speaker 4: so easy for people to go on social media and
• 49:56
Speaker 4: complain and not actually try to, you know, take advantage
• 49:59
Speaker 4: of the oppera tennities. They have to talk one on
• 50:01
Speaker 4: one in an informal setting. It's not like you're going
• 50:03
Speaker 4: to a city council meeting or anything. It's basically, from
• 50:06
Speaker 4: what I understand, I've never been there, just people talking
• 50:09
Speaker 4: and answering questions. So if you're in kanas City, if
• 50:12
Speaker 4: you're a resident of Kanawa City, you're into business in
• 50:14
Speaker 4: Kanawa City, maybe a shop there, and you just want to,
• 50:17
Speaker 4: you know, express some concerns. The meeting will be tomorrow
• 50:20
Speaker 4: night at City National in Kanas City. Starts at seven
• 50:23
Speaker 4: or sorry, I'm sorry six o'clock at six to seven,
• 50:26
Speaker 4: plenty of free parking. Don't take it to Facebook. Go
• 50:30
Speaker 4: and attend the meetings and find out what's going on.
• 50:33
Speaker 4: Let people know what's on your mind. And I'll say
• 50:36
Speaker 4: this about the city of Charleston. You know, the mayor
• 50:39
Speaker 4: comes on my show at least once a month. Normally
• 50:43
Speaker 4: it is the first Monday of the month, but sometimes
• 50:45
Speaker 4: more than that. Mayor Goodwin comes on this show, sits
• 50:47
Speaker 4: in this chair right across from me, and has open
• 50:52
Speaker 4: form for anybody that wants to call with concerns. And
• 50:56
Speaker 4: we get a few texts, we get a few phone calls.
• 50:59
Speaker 4: But I see all the complaints on social media, which
• 51:03
Speaker 4: is your right to do. But I'm just thinking, Okay,
• 51:05
Speaker 4: you have the mayor who comes in here and sits
• 51:08
Speaker 4: down once a month at least an open line. She
• 51:11
  Speaker 4: doesn't know who's calling, she doesn't know who's texting, and
• 51:15
Speaker 4: just says, hey, what's on your mind? And people would
• 51:18
Speaker 4: rather post it on Facebook. So just saying, and there's
• 51:21
Speaker 4: a I can count on one hand the amount of
• 51:24
Speaker 4: elected officials that I have in West Virginia that set
• 51:27
Speaker 4: across from me that come on this show and put
• 51:31
Speaker 4: on the headphones and say it's open line. Mayor Goodwin
• 51:34
Speaker 4: is won and it's not a party thing because there's
• 51:38
Speaker 4: several Democrats that do that and several Republicans that do that,
• 51:43
Speaker 4: and I paud them for that. To Dave Island Showing five.
