Transcript
- 0:01Hello and welcome to Off the Shelf with Phil and Dave, the
- 0:06movie talk show where each week one of us takes a movie off our
- 0:08shelf, presents it to the other and discusses it at length.
- 0:18This week we've got Coming Off of My Shelf 1982's Friday the
- 0:2313th Part 3, directed once again by Steve Minor, written by
- 0:28Martin Catroser and Carl Watson. That's right, two people to
- 0:32write this screenplay and starring Tracy Savage first and
- 0:37foremost, but perhaps most importantly, Richard Brooker.
- 0:40Jason, I didn't take the time to write it out like I did last
- 0:44time. You don't have all the names and
- 0:45the connective tissues and whatnots.
- 0:47No, I know what most of the names on screen.
- 0:49OK, yeah, I got it. More than I do if.
- 0:51I don't have their actual name. I have a a good enough
- 0:53approximation. Well, nickname that would
- 0:56obviously refer to very identifiable.
- 0:59Yeah, that's that's the goal here.
- 1:00Respect. Identify them and then kill
- 1:03them. Here we are, David.
- 1:04We're back on the couch. We are.
- 1:05Comfortable as always, thanks for having me again.
- 1:09It's a pleasure. It's a pleasure always.
- 1:11It's Friday the 13th. Part 2, David.
- 1:15Part three. Part three my.
- 1:16Goodness, I know time flies when you're.
- 1:19Killing, killing campers. Campers.
- 1:21Yeah. What, pray tell, did you think
- 1:25of this movie coming in? That is a valid question.
- 1:28Excited, I assume right after the events of Part 2.
- 1:31You know what I hate to admit? It pains me to my very core.
- 1:38At the very least, I was pretty curious.
- 1:42You like to. OK, like again, it wasn't
- 1:44miserable. I don't.
- 1:45Think no, it wasn't a terrible experience.
- 1:47What is interesting though, is how much time I spent defending
- 1:52the second installment and left Varsity Blues out to dry.
- 1:58You've defended some weird movies along the way, and yeah,
- 2:03that's a good example of. And you talked about, well, we
- 2:06can't compare apples and oranges.
- 2:08We can't compare a Stanley Kubrick war movie.
- 2:12To Benji or Lassie, lassie, that's.
- 2:15An animal and and I agree with you, yet we didn't really allow
- 2:20Varsity Blues the same leniency. It's just fuck.
- 2:23Varsity Blues. It's being what it's being.
- 2:25I've related it to other football movies or the sports
- 2:27movies. I thought it failed into those
- 2:29contexts. You're not wrong.
- 2:30But ultimately, I was surprised at myself as much as I I was
- 2:34surprised at my interest in continuing with this series.
- 2:39But at the very least, it confirms that I took the right
- 2:42path. Oh great, I hope.
- 2:44Oh yeah, choosing Friday overnightmare.
- 2:46Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 2:47The problem with that is coming off of a not so bad experience
- 2:51with one and two, the expectations creep up a little
- 2:55bit. Fair.
- 2:56And I think my loose view of this is it took a step back with
- 3:03certain aspects of the yeah, no, that's fair.
- 3:05And we'll dive into exactly what categories I felt were worse
- 3:09than last one or better in, in some small circumstances.
- 3:13I'm not saying 100% of it was worse than last.
- 3:16One couldn't be. It's impossible.
- 3:19Some elements that are good. Some elements.
- 3:21That are bad, of course, but it's minor, so it's the same
- 3:24director at the helm. Minor issues, I would say, yeah.
- 3:28Yeah, back to you, Phil. I tried to get a clause where I
- 3:33didn't have to ask you why now and why this one, because it's
- 3:38obvious this is our our yearly Halloween installment, and you
- 3:43presented to me with a choice. We went with Friday.
- 3:46So that's answers both those questions.
- 3:47So skip all that and tell me just a little bit of your memory
- 3:52of maybe watching this movie for the very first time.
- 3:56What year was it? Is it wasn't 82.
- 3:59No, it wouldn't have been 80. 2 I don't know.
- 4:02It was probably 85 or 6. OK, so you're six or six or
- 4:07seven. Yeah, because I remember
- 4:10watching 4 on television, and that came out, I think, in 84.
- 4:16And I will say my memory of this one was that for a while, it was
- 4:19my favorite when I was young. That's what's shocking to me
- 4:23because I will tell you this is not my favorite.
- 4:25I can't explain why I love this movie when I was younger.
- 4:29Interesting, because if this was your favorite now, I would write
- 4:32you off as Crazy Ralph number. Three.
- 4:35Yeah, No, it's it's definitely not that.
- 4:37I think there's a ton of problems with it now.
- 4:40But strangely, and I don't know if it was the hockey mask thing,
- 4:43I remember the box art of the VHS copy had a cool silhouette
- 4:48with the machete coming out of the shower.
- 4:50Our screen, which was the poster, which I thought was
- 4:52really kind of cool. The back of it had both, I
- 4:56believe Tracy Savage in the shower and had a shot of Jason
- 5:02and his hands trapped in the window.
- 5:05And those are two scenes that stuck around.
- 5:07That happened to me the other day, Windows.
- 5:12Yeah, so back then I was was my favorite.
- 5:14Now again, looking back, I'd have no idea why.
- 5:16At that age, you're not really recognizing good performances,
- 5:19bad performances, good writing, bad writing.
- 5:21It may have been the first one I saw too, right?
- 5:23I could just sort of, it could be just some specific images
- 5:25that kind of stuck with you. I get it.
- 5:26I'm not holding. This and I may have been, you
- 5:28know, there's just some kills in this that I really liked that
- 5:30hold up. I will give you a little nugget
- 5:32of what I do think was better than last one is a a killer too.
- 5:36OK. Yeah.
- 5:37So I think that's. Go if not the only thing I liked
- 5:40better the last one. But again, I'm not going to
- 5:43defend it as much, but I'm still going to go in with the proper
- 5:47mindset. It's not Citizen Kane to use the
- 5:50the movie that you chose to use as an example.
- 5:52Yeah, it is living in a world which has certain certainly.
- 5:57This series, it's got a paradigm, it's got a it's.
- 5:59Contained into this this box, it's up to if we want to buy it
- 6:03because we know what we're getting.
- 6:05That's right. Which makes it so similar to EA
- 6:08in that regards, because even though I know I'm getting a
- 6:12product that is going to be mildly better at this point,
- 6:15this is not the first year I'm still going to buy it.
- 6:21I have #4 queued up. I almost watched it.
- 6:25Oh wow, it's so close. Wow.
- 6:27Because of the EA Sports effect. Sure.
- 6:29What's coming? What's what is changing?
- 6:31But I know it's not going to be anything major like EA Sports.
- 6:36Introduction of a small this over a small that.
- 6:40Variant of some kind, right? Yeah, but it just enough.
- 6:43To keep you coming back. And that's what the game
- 6:46industry does, yeah. That's a good point, and I think
- 6:48that's the right mindset to go in.
- 6:50And this one, the big trick of it was 3D.
- 6:52Yeah, that's the impression I got.
- 6:54I'll let you sort of explain that.
- 6:56I noticed during the credits they were giving credit to the
- 6:593D person. Yeah.
- 7:01And I saw the 3D credits, Yeah, but for me, that was it.
- 7:06I'm like, I, I don't know what else they did in three.
- 7:10DA lot. You just must have missed it
- 7:13because it isn't. Obviously we're not watching it
- 7:15in 3D. Yeah, we could.
- 7:16If we want to load up the PS4 in the original PSVR, because I
- 7:19have some glasses, we could do it.
- 7:22I did do it. In fact, it's included in one of
- 7:23the box sets I own. But ultimately in 82, for
- 7:28whatever reason, likely to combat VHS, come see it in the
- 7:31theater in 3D. So Jaws 3D, Friday the 13th,
- 7:34Part 3 in 3D, and Amityville 3D. There's a few others, but those
- 7:40three in particular became horror 3D movies in an attempt
- 7:44to excite the audience. Didn't stick.
- 7:47It didn't stick. Interesting.
- 7:48They've tried numerous times to make 3-DA thing, but watching it
- 7:51now is a lot of soft focus. And the gags that they do with
- 7:54the 3D elements are things like, you'll notice, and I'll comment
- 7:58a little bit throughout, which is, you know, the yo-yo scene,
- 8:01the broom scene, these sort of inanimate object thing.
- 8:05Coming at the screen. Coming at the screen, Exactly.
- 8:08So on a 2D plane, when you're watching on TV, you're like, oh,
- 8:10this looks stupid. Yeah, yo-yo.
- 8:12One is 1. I noticed.
- 8:14Yeah, I was the only one that really screamed to me.
- 8:17Sure. And I couldn't figure out why.
- 8:19But now I have the knowledge of what they did.
- 8:21That's right. Which makes more sense?
- 8:22Yeah, you wouldn't otherwise know it, but there it is.
- 8:24And so again, we'll comment throughout, but it does change
- 8:26up the paradigm a little bit to say, oh look, we're gonna have
- 8:28fun with it and we're gonna have fun with a little 3D element.
- 8:31Well I love the the 3D credits. There you go.
- 8:33So what are your thoughts on the score?
- 8:35Let's get into that I. Liked it.
- 8:37The introduction that beat. Yeah, whatever that beat is, I'm
- 8:41sure I've heard it before. But I don't think you did.
- 8:44Well, maybe not, but I'm in it. Yeah, I, it's on my playlist.
- 8:48Like I, I listen to it not always, but it's on there.
- 8:50So when it pops in, I'm always like, God, this is such a fun,
- 8:53funky song. Yeah, so it did.
- 8:55And a very big leap from the previous disco, sort of themed.
- 9:00Yeah, that was about it. Phil, before we get too deep,
- 9:02the synopsis. Old Faithful.
- 9:04Of our episode yeah here it is you ready I'm.
- 9:08Born ready, buddy. Jason Voorhees stalks a group of
- 9:13friends who have just arrived to spend the weekend at a cabin
- 9:17near Crystal Lake. There it is obviously pretty
- 9:21clean. That's ultimately what happens.
- 9:24And yeah, I I wouldn't think Jason would travel too far
- 9:27because he has his little shed, but this is not Crystal Lake.
- 9:31No, it's near Crystal Lake. He's extended his perimeter.
- 9:34Yeah, maybe it's all I think in and around Crystal Lake I.
- 9:38Don't know the exact geography in this movie?
- 9:40You don't need different. Campgrounds, I guess on the same
- 9:42lake. But it's never mentioned by any
- 9:45of the characters about Jason, no.
- 9:49Well, Chris, isolated. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:51But it doesn't, they don't reference that as Jason itself.
- 9:53Yeah, yeah. Whereas 2 has that speech from.
- 9:57Amy Steele. Yes.
- 9:59I I will tell you the straight story on Jason, you know,
- 10:02whatever else. The scoop.
- 10:04Yeah. Now, having said that, we of
- 10:08course have to watch the last 10 minutes of the previous film. 6
- 10:12minutes. I'll have you.
- 10:13Was it 6 minutes? 6 minutes from the beginning of
- 10:15the movie until the movie starts.
- 10:17All right, did you enjoy the recap and you're happy to
- 10:21revisit the the highlights and low lights of Part 2?
- 10:25I love that shot through the window where we see Jason
- 10:27running because that's the first moment.
- 10:30Yeah, that's great. Second time I watched it, I
- 10:32just. I literally fast forwarded it.
- 10:33Yeah, that's fair. Yeah.
- 10:34I figured I did it one time out of respect.
- 10:37We have to have a section of the movie beyond last movie that
- 10:44gives us a couple deaths that have nothing really to do with
- 10:48the rest of the movie. That's correct.
- 10:50Yes, that's that's standard procedure.
- 10:53We get. Alyssa Milano cannot accept your
- 10:58definition of this woman is. Like the stereotypical dagging
- 11:02wife. Yeah.
- 11:03To a gentleman that we've seen in TV.
- 11:05Yes, that mustache has existed. Yeah, Harold, I believe is his
- 11:08name. This not incredibly important,
- 11:11but this scene carries on for a little bit.
- 11:14I find some of the stuff, again on rewatch for a very short
- 11:18movie drags on quite a bit. Certain elements and this one in
- 11:21particular opening on that crane shot over the convenience store
- 11:26at Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake convenience or something like
- 11:28that on the the slow like I think that's a great shot and
- 11:33revealing into the laundry stick.
- 11:35Again, this is the first 3D effect that we're seeing, which
- 11:37you didn't catch. I did not.
- 11:40But obviously playing with that a little bit, this scene, I want
- 11:43to say is almost 15 minutes. Yeah, correct.
- 11:47Before or at least 10 minutes, let's say.
- 11:49It's 20 minutes till we meet the crew, so if that's 6 minutes for
- 11:53the intro. The recap, this is like 14
- 11:56minutes long. Yeah, it's a lot.
- 11:58It's a little much, yeah. So I mean, it does a little bit
- 12:01of the of the legwork of saying that Part 2 has basically just
- 12:04happened. Yeah, she's watching on the
- 12:05telly. On the on the.
- 12:06Television, she crochets. And we're laying the groundwork
- 12:10now in the third movie. Do we need to lay that much
- 12:13groundwork as an audience? Maybe, maybe not.
- 12:16It's arguable. And how they handle that in
- 12:18movies going forward. But they're always all of these
- 12:21movies. These slasher movies aren't
- 12:22always going to have an element of that.
- 12:24Correct. At least we find out that
- 12:27goldfish food tastes good. Yeah, that's ridiculous.
- 12:30Despite the fact it had dayfly eggs.
- 12:32He didn't like it at. All no.
- 12:33Well, once he found out the ingredients, he kind of changed
- 12:36his tune. That's right, if he didn't look
- 12:37it would be fine. That was his last meal.
- 12:39Well, I mean, he had Donuts. Oh, and he washed it down with
- 12:42room temperature orange juice, so at that point I knew Harold
- 12:46deserved to die. Drink that, Keep that in the
- 12:50fridge. Yeah, it's pretty disgusting,
- 12:52this guy taking peanuts, taking things off the shelf.
- 12:54Although I will say that he runs.
- 12:55If I worked at like a Bulk Barn, I would be doing that.
- 12:58He. Loves rabbits too.
- 12:59That's. That's kind of weird thing with
- 13:01rabbits, but yeah, there it's all just like wandering around,
- 13:06like there is no real purpose to any of this stuff.
- 13:08Yeah, fake. Scare.
- 13:10Yeah, fake scare with the snake, fake scare with the rat, fake
- 13:12snare with the rabbit, fake scare.
- 13:14Right. All these like faux scenes, but
- 13:16ultimately there isn't anything that really happens until the
- 13:21clerk is on the shitter. Yeah, it's getting closer to his
- 13:24death. He meets the meat.
- 13:25Cleaver. Yeah.
- 13:26Is that the meat cleaver in the chest after a couple of peaks
- 13:30and valleys, Right. You think something's happening?
- 13:31Opens the door. No, it's fine.
- 13:32Turns around. Just kill them already.
- 13:35Yeah, I find it drags. And then obviously killing the
- 13:37wife with the crochet needle. Of course, that's another 3D
- 13:42effect right coming through the screen if you were to watch.
- 13:45Decent kill by the way. I thought so the first 2 kills,
- 13:47despite the fact it took a while to get there, the kill itself is
- 13:52acceptable. Yeah, as the first two movies
- 13:55go, those kills happen very quickly and set a tone.
- 14:00And this one doesn't happen quickly and sets a tone, right?
- 14:04Like it's just a different tone. It's a different pace that I
- 14:07don't think is very effective and culminating in these two
- 14:11characters that we don't care about dying separately.
- 14:14No, I'm not invested in Harold and and Ugly Alyssa.
- 14:17So it's a stuff bowl right off the block for me, which again, I
- 14:22wonder why you liked it. I liked it as much as I
- 14:24remembered liking it back in the day.
- 14:26Because holding up and like this is.
- 14:28Well, we have a selective memory, right?
- 14:29You're not remembering that first 50 minutes clearly of the
- 14:33movie. So coming from that, what would
- 14:35be a bit of a let down I would say for the first sort of couple
- 14:37of kills. The next shot is a little kid in
- 14:40the street with a baseball bat doing a 3D effect.
- 14:44It's 20 minutes before we meet the gang and we're not even
- 14:46meeting the gang right away. Just an odd pacing choice,
- 14:48that's all. I think one of the faults of
- 14:50this movie is I don't think it's paced well at all, like from
- 14:55beginning to end. Unfortunately, Phil, I'm not to,
- 14:58you know, not going to be too hard on this film, but I cannot
- 15:02ignore the pacing. It's a thing, it's for sure.
- 15:05It's a thing and it's bad, it's bad.
- 15:08But we finally do slowly meet the crew in their Scooby van.
- 15:14It is a bit like a Scooby van. Yeah, I can only assume it will
- 15:18have issues with the engine or the gas or something and that's
- 15:23fine. The territory, I'm accepting it
- 15:26again, it comes with the. Territory.
- 15:28Exactly. And I think, and we'll get to it
- 15:30later, I think this movie does a good job of setting it up,
- 15:33explaining why there might be a problem.
- 15:36If you're not lazy in the creation of the movie, you're
- 15:39showing effort like that. You get points with me.
- 15:42That's right. And that's important to get
- 15:43points with me. Yeah, who doesn't get any
- 15:46points, Shelly? Yeah.
- 15:48So we yeah, yeah, Shelly. Sucks Shelly sucks.
- 15:53That's my first note. Lovely guy, I'm sure.
- 15:56No, not even as a human being, but probably the characters.
- 16:01But Shelly sucks. So this new group of teens, we
- 16:03won't bother going one by one or anything like that.
- 16:06But is there anybody in this first wave here where you're
- 16:09like, OK, are you playing the guessing game?
- 16:12Who's going to die? How they're going to die.
- 16:14That's why I'm here, buddy, because.
- 16:15You're obviously not going to love or learn much about these
- 16:17guys. No, not going to be too much
- 16:19into depth. Yeah, initially I know Shelly is
- 16:22going to be the annoying 1 and I'm hoping he goes first.
- 16:25Gotcha. But I know he won't because we
- 16:27get the impression he likes to scare people.
- 16:30So you need him. You need him for at least half
- 16:33of the next. Couple of red herrings.
- 16:34Exactly. We have Debbie and Andy and we
- 16:39have Vera. So those are the main chunk, of
- 16:43course. And Chris.
- 16:43Oh, yeah, sorry. And Chris, forget her.
- 16:45And Cheech and Fem Chong. Yeah.
- 16:46So everybody's pretty much together.
- 16:51The guessing game is not only who's going to get it, who
- 16:53isn't, who's going to be last woman or man standing, it's
- 16:57whose breasts are off limits and who's are we going to see off
- 17:00limits? Off limits.
- 17:02OK, I I got an eye for this buddy and I know almost right
- 17:07away when Vera comes out, yes, I know she's off limits.
- 17:10She's off limits. She's off limits.
- 17:12Do you have a reason or reckoning for that?
- 17:13She is just too good looking. Wow, she has a an innocence to
- 17:18her. OK, she's wearing a jumpsuit
- 17:20too. Which is and a beauty tour.
- 17:22Wow. I'm holding out hope, don't get
- 17:24me wrong is. What you're saying what?
- 17:26You're smitten. I am smitten.
- 17:28I do find her quite attractive, so I know we're not going to see
- 17:33those. It's too early to start thinking
- 17:37about who's going to get it first and how.
- 17:40But my first impression Chris seems to be.
- 17:43The leader, OK, because she's driving.
- 17:45Yeah, the yeah, I guess so. For could be something as simple
- 17:48as that. Yeah, she seems to be a little
- 17:51bit later familiar with the area.
- 17:53Yeah. She says some flippant line
- 17:54about how some incident happened a couple of years ago, but very
- 17:57like circumspect exactly. So that's.
- 17:59Really all we know before we had to to Higgins Haven.
- 18:04You're right, maybe it's a little premature to suggest how
- 18:06anyone's going to die, but I think we can probably assume
- 18:08that most are going to. I'd say 85%.
- 18:11And if we look at the last two movies, I mean, one person lived
- 18:15at the each of those. So you may be sort of thinking,
- 18:17all right, well, somebody, one of these people is going to make
- 18:20it and they go a little bit of a way to up the stakes a bit, if
- 18:25you will. Well, this is NHL 82, so they
- 18:29made some tweaks. They've added something.
- 18:32Yeah, they changed the ante a little bit.
- 18:33There's a line that's so kind of flippantly given away that I
- 18:37almost don't even believe that I hear it when Debbie.
- 18:41Debbie. Says I have to pee all the time,
- 18:45and that's what happens when you're pregnant.
- 18:47It's true, I hear. The implication obviously is
- 18:50that this girl is pregnant, correct?
- 18:52And so when we find out later that her fate is not great, it's
- 18:59not really talked about it. I don't think in in the world
- 19:02that that's a pregnant person dying.
- 19:03And it's a thing that I never really put it together, despite
- 19:07the fact that I really want babies and pregnant people and
- 19:10old ladies. In the thigh, you've gone on
- 19:11record. On in the Movies.
- 19:13Yeah, absolutely. So this is right up your alley.
- 19:15Little bit. I was impressed by that.
- 19:17I I wouldn't, I wouldn't use the word impressed.
- 19:20For me, it stood out like a sore thumb coming off of Mark from
- 19:24last movie. So now you're like, OK, we did
- 19:27that wheelchair bound disabled person.
- 19:30What are we going to add in as the beards in this installment
- 19:34of this version? Right.
- 19:36So that was it. It was just casually said and
- 19:39there's one line just a few moments later where they have to
- 19:41get rid of the weed because they think they're getting pulled
- 19:43over and she can't have any of it because yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 19:47yeah, we're pregnant, her and Andy.
- 19:49I kind of got the impression that it was like a joke, but I I
- 19:52guess it's not a joke. I took it seriously.
- 19:54Yeah, I know. I think you're right.
- 19:55I just when I first hear it because it's such a throwaway
- 19:58line that it's like it didn't even register.
- 20:00It's exactly what you wanted. That's yeah.
- 20:03I just wish it wasn't Debbie. Yeah, well, because I luckily
- 20:06for, you know, to put the the bow on it, I got the boobs that
- 20:10I wanted to see. Oh, OK.
- 20:11Fair enough, fair enough. Top 3 for sure.
- 20:13Top 3 for sure. Have you ever tried to eat weed?
- 20:16Never. I've not even really tried to
- 20:18smoke weed so don't. It's it's addictive.
- 20:22Yeah. Don't do it, people.
- 20:23Lie and tell you it isn't, but they're wrong.
- 20:25You can't. Like it's like, you know, it's
- 20:27like eating. Cinnamon.
- 20:31Yeah, anything, anything like yeah, just crackers.
- 20:34It was just poof. And it's what a waste.
- 20:36What a waste. It's really sad, especially for
- 20:37Cheech and Fem Chong. They do have names.
- 20:42I think it's Chuck and maybe Chili.
- 20:45Sure doesn't matter too much while they're out talking with
- 20:50Vera. That's the introduction really
- 20:51of these of Cheech and Fem Chong, as you say, with like the
- 20:55van is on fire according to Chris.
- 20:59Like this is bad. Everything about these
- 21:02introductions scenes in this movie in particular I find just
- 21:05terrible. It's a bad combination of the
- 21:08Writings week and the acting's. Week and I'm bored in this early
- 21:12stages. Nothing pops.
- 21:13Yeah. Whereas in the last one, there
- 21:15were things that popped a little bit, Jenny coming in the car,
- 21:19that sort of storytelling, the there was just more action
- 21:21happening. There's an energy, whereas this
- 21:23is, I find very flat, Jeff. Daniels was very Paul.
- 21:27It might have been Paul. Yeah, Paul was more charismatic,
- 21:30totally. We have a, we have Scott Baio
- 21:32from Wish. Because.
- 21:34You don't get the Timu joke. No, I no, it's it's that I don't
- 21:38understand Timu makes sense. But Annie's overacting pretty
- 21:42flat. Shelly is just garbage.
- 21:45Shelly is. Overacting and I don't find Andy
- 21:47to be any like he's like no personality.
- 21:50He's a nothing burger. He's kind of nothing.
- 21:51Yeah, I'm. Clinging on to Vera.
- 21:52Like I bet you are sicko. But then less.
- 21:57This is what we're dealing with. This is what we have to be with
- 21:59for the next. Thank God.
- 22:00Only well, at this point, only an hour left.
- 22:02That's right. Exactly.
- 22:09We're talking about updating the roster and so forth.
- 22:12It's in the game. It's in the game.
- 22:14We've already dispatched Crazy Ralph in Part 2.
- 22:17He managed to make it through 1 1/2 movies.
- 22:20So we get to introduce. I guess we'll do it again.
- 22:24We'll just run it back. Just a slight slight variation.
- 22:27Slight variation on Crazy Ralph. Just like EA Sports part.
- 22:30Two with a beard, but the beard, Yeah, to be fair.
- 22:33And an eyeball. And an eyeball, which again
- 22:35holding out to the audience as if.
- 22:37At all I see it now you see it. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:41So as an audience member, if you're looking in the in the 3D
- 22:43World and you're like, oh, that's kind of neat maybe.
- 22:45But watching it now in 3D does I imagine add?
- 22:50It adds something it's like a kitch to it, right?
- 22:52Same thing like they put Jaws three out on Blu-ray and then
- 22:54and part of the special features there was to be able to watch it
- 22:57in 3D as well. It's still a not a great movie,
- 23:00but it adds that other element that made it better.
- 23:04But it's more entertaining. That's right.
- 23:05And because it's not flat, right, like you're watching this
- 23:09flat version of a 3D element, it's not that interesting.
- 23:12But you put it in 3D, you're like, OK, this is more
- 23:14interesting. So we finally arrive at Higgins
- 23:17Haven. That's right, not Camp Pakanak,
- 23:20no. Nor Crystal Lake specifically.
- 23:23No, not at all. It is Higgins Haven.
- 23:26As mentioned, Chris seems to know the area and Rick appears
- 23:32horny. Yeah, Rick is clearly some sort
- 23:35of boyfriend, not unlike Steve the first one and Paul in the
- 23:38second one. Exactly.
- 23:41Let's let's dig into Chris for a little bit here, because we do
- 23:45get, for lack of a better term, some level of back story.
- 23:48Yes, right. There's the the commitment that
- 23:51she's been there before. It's only been two years.
- 23:54That's right. That's when she was last there.
- 23:55Rick is horny, as you saying. He's kind of making some move.
- 23:58She just needs some time and he ultimately kind of challenges
- 24:04her. He's making his move.
- 24:06This is 82, so that's how it goes, unfortunately.
- 24:08But he's making his moves and he kind of threatens her and saying
- 24:12like, I could be with someone else and I'm not just going to
- 24:16sit here and take cold showers for the rest of the summer,
- 24:18which. I don't even think work.
- 24:20I haven't. I've I've taken one by accident,
- 24:22but certainly not to cool myself down.
- 24:24I was taking cold showers for a little while during my detox.
- 24:28My, no, my my burn. Oh gosh, I bet you took some
- 24:33some cold showers there. Yeah, that would be necessary.
- 24:36But yeah, I've never done it from a sexual context.
- 24:38I've never felt like they. Get to cool myself down.
- 24:40False claim. False claim.
- 24:42But we're sort of getting a sense that who she is, there's
- 24:45more to her. Let's say there's a trauma that
- 24:47needs to be addressed. Even if they're poorly acted or
- 24:50poorly written, it's at least adding an element of horror and
- 24:54terror to the event. And I like that they're doing
- 24:57the bare minimum. The bare minimum.
- 24:59We also get a a string of sorry I wrote down shitty I I didn't
- 25:03mean to say it on on tape radio here we got some fake scares.
- 25:08Yes, Shelly gets to make. Shelly gets to showcase he's not
- 25:13skinny enough. He's not skinny enough to.
- 25:14Be skinny dipping. That's a that's.
- 25:16True, but he, he's just sitting in the van.
- 25:18Yeah, it's a, it's a it's weak. It's pathetic.
- 25:21It's weak. Sitting in the van being lonely
- 25:23and sad and pathetic. It's the only way he's going to
- 25:25get attention. He's a loser otherwise.
- 25:27Yeah, he's sort of got a real self esteem issue.
- 25:30Yeah, even though everybody says they hate it.
- 25:32So, yeah, keep doing it. Yeah.
- 25:33Because they'll, they'll, they'll like you.
- 25:34They'll come around. Yeah.
- 25:35Yeah, sooner or later. Classic lonely sad boy thoughts,
- 25:39right? But it's not even like happy,
- 25:41funny, clowny, jokey stuff. Like the guy in the first one,
- 25:45Yeah, he was more clowny. That's right, hoofy.
- 25:47Whatever, right? Like that is obnoxious in a
- 25:50Francis candidate, but not like this.
- 25:55Whereas the first time we meet this guy, he's wearing the
- 25:57clownish mask and he stabbed somebody.
- 26:00And he has set him up on a date and this is your.
- 26:03Your moment. This is your play.
- 26:04This. Is what you're going in with.
- 26:05Yeah, this is your best answer. Jesus.
- 26:08Yeah, it's bad news. Bad news.
- 26:10But I hate all of it. And did you think that he was
- 26:13dead when he was playing dead? Heavens no, no, of course not.
- 26:17Let me ask you about that though, which does not make
- 26:20sense. Let's lay it out here for you,
- 26:22OK? We hear a scream, a female
- 26:26shrieking voice. Everybody rushes to see what it
- 26:29is, especially Chris goes upstairs, finds a locked door,
- 26:36knocks it open into a room, and then opens up the closet and
- 26:43finds Shelly with the makeup and axe or whatever it was who
- 26:50shrieked. Nobody.
- 26:53Nobody. Why is the door locked?
- 26:56He would have been there for hours.
- 26:57Complicated. It's complicated.
- 27:00It just does not make sense. Yeah, in a movie that isn't
- 27:04supposed to make sense, clearly you'd still need to make sense.
- 27:07I'm already predisposed to not really care, and that's OK,
- 27:10because it's not the type of movie that you're supposed to
- 27:12really care about. No, just.
- 27:13But you only get a couple of whiffs and this is a big whiff.
- 27:17Yeah, because I get nobody screamed anyway.
- 27:20And then there's. No tension, there's no
- 27:21excitement, there's no interest and there's either going to the
- 27:25well for the death thing, like it just doesn't really excite or
- 27:28interest and. All Shelly has done is upset
- 27:33people again. Alienates himself from this
- 27:36group of people who I guess they're just roommates, right?
- 27:39Has he's a Andy's. Roommates, they're just.
- 27:41Roommates tag along. There's not like anybody has any
- 27:44real affinity for the guy. It's like a pity.
- 27:46Pity invitation, I would say. You know what pity is?
- 27:50You're married to it. But it upsets it's it upsets
- 27:54Vera enough where she wants to go to town.
- 27:57Yeah, she just needs to get her head straight and get out of
- 27:59town. Absolutely.
- 28:01And after that, would you say yes to Shelly?
- 28:04Like, that's the weird part to me.
- 28:05It's. Like, that's a pity, yes.
- 28:06Like, I don't like this guy. This guy's pissed me off now
- 28:08twice. And I guess, yeah, sure, come
- 28:12along. I think it's Shelly's car.
- 28:13So I mean, it doesn't have a bit of leverage.
- 28:15It's Rick's car. Oh, that's right, it's Rick's
- 28:17car, so Shelley has nothing. Nothing.
- 28:19She just feels bad for him. Pity.
- 28:21It's working. Yeah, it's working.
- 28:22There it is. The magic is.
- 28:24Is there the magic? That is Shelley.
- 28:25Yeah, and they made-up with some punks, 1980s punks, not not to
- 28:30mention actually Speaking of 80s Velcro wallets.
- 28:34Yeah, yeah, there's a lot of things happening in this scene
- 28:36where I'm like, Oh yeah, this is this is the sweet spot in 80s,
- 28:38man. I think I had a Velcro wallet
- 28:40till I was 28. Probably.
- 28:44Possibly. Yeah.
- 28:45We have Jody from today's Special Fox.
- 28:49Yeah, Fox Loco and Ally and Ally.
- 28:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:54I didn't catch his name in the first watch, so I called him
- 28:57henchman #3. But he seems to be the leader.
- 29:00I thought Fox was the leader. Oh come on, there's always 9.
- 29:04999 No, there's always a woman behind.
- 29:07Not an 8282. Women didn't get chances to be
- 29:10there. I don't know.
- 29:11I think it was one of those, one of those odd cases.
- 29:13Yeah, right. That's fair.
- 29:14But yeah, so they're all in this convenience store.
- 29:17Yeah. Causing trouble?
- 29:19Yeah. Motorcycle gang very 80s.
- 29:21And very tame Oh yeah, that's true.
- 29:24They're like, you want your wallet back?
- 29:26Ask me nicely. OK, then she asked her nicely
- 29:29and OK, here's your wallet. Like there's no.
- 29:32Real conflict here. Yeah.
- 29:33And the outside Ally is just standing there with his beard,
- 29:35kind of not just looking at them.
- 29:38And then Shelly backs into the motorcycle.
- 29:40Classic shell move. That's what pisses up Ally
- 29:43enough to waste a beer, which I don't buy.
- 29:46Ally is not wasting a beer. I'm sorry.
- 29:49He's also. Doing the up yours movement with
- 29:52his hands, which is such a. And throws his hat like it's all
- 29:56come on. What?
- 29:57I'm going to you. Yeah.
- 30:00That stuff ages worse than the effects or some of the costume.
- 30:03Like, it's those things. You're like, God, nobody in the
- 30:06world does that anymore. Or then.
- 30:08No, maybe they said it. They did it.
- 30:10Come on. We got the 3D punch of this
- 30:12chain into the again. Now you're maybe catching more
- 30:14of this. So in the window, Shelley's face
- 30:18to face with Ali. And then Shelley races off and
- 30:22Vera's. She's excited at this point.
- 30:24She's seen Shelley the superhero.
- 30:26Yeah, he finally decides to stand up and try to, you know,
- 30:29almost run them over. And we haven't seen the last of
- 30:32these thugs. No, no, no this.
- 30:34Is clearly not too far from where they're staying.
- 30:38Makes sense. You go into town, you come back.
- 30:39Of course. Easy peasy.
- 30:41Yeah, you mentioned the yo-yo scene.
- 30:44We're here. They're just relaxing back at
- 30:48the camp. Yes, the yo-yo scene.
- 30:50God, this is bad. I'm thinking in the first couple
- 30:53movies there's, there's games being played, you know,
- 30:57Monopoly. Strip monopoly though.
- 30:59True, we have the handheld games.
- 31:01Hockey or football, the one with the puck.
- 31:07We have arm wrestling with Mark, of course, and I felt this movie
- 31:10overall didn't have that. It had a yo-yo moment and some
- 31:15juggling. Yeah, that's a couple of tears
- 31:18down from the entertainment area of things.
- 31:23Nothing fun is happening at all. I think that's actually a good
- 31:28indicator of what the problem with this movie is.
- 31:31Yeah, generally speaking is there's doesn't appear to be any
- 31:33fun happening. Yeah, it's.
- 31:34Pretty draft. Everything that Shelly is doing
- 31:36is not fun or funny, no. And things like yo yos and
- 31:41juggling isn't captivating. Now it is good for 3D perhaps
- 31:44because you can put a camera, you can play with that.
- 31:47And so there's a limitation that you're putting on yourself by
- 31:50opening up the 3rd dimension of terror.
- 31:53So it's worse in a 2D experience.
- 31:55And Part 2 I would say had not like great camera work but
- 32:00looked better than this one. I agree and it's similar.
- 32:04It's more. Polished every element of the
- 32:06movie up to now is just not as. Good, except Deb Debbie is an
- 32:13improvement on almost every. Previously.
- 32:15OK, You really like Debbie, eh? I'm a big fan.
- 32:17OK, she was my #2 she was, I'll say it.
- 32:21I think I said top three but she is the 2nd.
- 32:23There's three women, there's four there's. 4 Don't forget
- 32:26fem. Chong fem Chong.
- 32:28Who barely says a word. And haggard Alyssa Milano from
- 32:32the beginning as well. Let's not forget it.
- 32:34And Jodie, don't forget her. But so far, I would say it's
- 32:40falling pretty flat and nothing short of seeing Vera topless.
- 32:47We'll salvage this movie. Oh, right away, yeah.
- 32:50Yeah, we need that. That's the next level.
- 32:52That's it. The the second gear.
- 32:53If we don't do that, this is going to be a bad movie.
- 32:56OK, Unfortunately, that's fair. Now, what's not helping the
- 33:00situation, of course, are the three punks that you rightfully
- 33:03called would be back. Yeah, if they're like, true
- 33:06punks of the 80s, I imagine they would have just beat them
- 33:08senseless. Possibly, but they don't have
- 33:10the numbers. They don't.
- 33:11That's all but the numbers. Now, have you ever siphoned gas?
- 33:14No. OK, people do that.
- 33:17Siphon gas. Absolutely.
- 33:18But this is the clearest example of not unlike the first wave,
- 33:24right? Those first two characters,
- 33:25you're like, well, these guys, they're going to die.
- 33:26They're introduced to die. These punks seem to only be
- 33:30introduced to die, right? They're like, go to the town to
- 33:32lure these three people into the camp.
- 33:35Yeah, I guess so. And now they've served no other
- 33:37purpose. They're just going to die, and
- 33:38they die quickly. Yeah.
- 33:39One of the benefits of Part 2 was that you had 25 people at
- 33:44that cabin, so there's some room to cut away and kind of have
- 33:48different conversations going in different places.
- 33:50There's only 5 people at this cabin or this cottage.
- 33:53Yeah, you got to add some more. So in order to get the kills,
- 33:56you need strangers to come in. Well, you don't.
- 33:58Need quantity if you're doing quality.
- 34:00I suppose. But we're not doing quality, so
- 34:04you're right, we have to do quantity.
- 34:05So we bring the three in and that barn plays a big.
- 34:07Role, huge role in this. Movie.
- 34:09There's a lot of hay but no horses, correct, That's been
- 34:13said. Yes, absolutely.
- 34:15And I will say about Friday the 13th, the game, we talked a
- 34:18little bit about this. One of the things that that game
- 34:20does better than, Oh yeah, anything is this is a level if
- 34:24you now that you've seen these movies, to go back and play that
- 34:28like that. Is there's the barn?
- 34:29Higgins Haven, that is. The barn and the Jason designs
- 34:33in the game are exactly as they are.
- 34:37Yeah, I think you'll you'll get through this.
- 34:39You'll see like that. Those elements are like holy
- 34:41shit they did a great job of that.
- 34:43If it's free, I'd play it that. Is, I believe all right.
- 34:45We'll. Check it out.
- 34:47But yeah, so watching this is like a reminder of just how cool
- 34:49that game was. But to your point, the punks
- 34:51come in and that barn, that's really where they have to live
- 34:54because they can't interact because it wants to be as thin
- 34:56trim as possible. So you literally just introduce
- 34:59them to cause the issue with the gas and then Jason dispatches
- 35:03them. Yeah, pitchfork seems to be the
- 35:05weapon du jour. It's all the hay.
- 35:08Because of the hay, you're going to have pitchforks because
- 35:11that's what you use it for. That's a very good point.
- 35:14The first one's Jodi. Yeah, Fox is coming in and out.
- 35:17She's woo Hoo. She's having a good time on the
- 35:19swing and then disappears, which I like.
- 35:21Yeah, she's screaming and then you look up and something has
- 35:25changed. That is horror movie one O 1 to
- 35:27me and I'm sucker for it at all times it.
- 35:29Could be nothing, or it could be something that's right.
- 35:31So Loco Ono goes inside the barn and ultimately finds Fox.
- 35:38Yep, and then he has a really good death.
- 35:41He does. Acting wise.
- 35:43Yeah, you like it? I was impressed with his.
- 35:45Acting ability, yeah. I mean, there's a very, very low
- 35:48bar in. This in this movie.
- 35:49For sure, so I'm thinking loco's like this is my chance to shine.
- 35:52Everyone else is sucking and he dies well.
- 35:55He dies very well, the cigarette kind of dangling.
- 35:57Yeah, the pitchfork in the stomach and moving himself to
- 36:00position so that the pitchfork is looking out into the screen
- 36:03with the 3D thing. Yeah, I like that.
- 36:06Generally, it's solid. And then Ali kind of gets
- 36:08introduced and. He gets clubbed to.
- 36:10Death. He gets clubbed to death,
- 36:12seemingly seemingly. Exactly.
- 36:14He's got the worst moment to me in almost the entire movie,
- 36:18honestly, is that he sees Jason in the paddock and then proceeds
- 36:24to look underneath like a Bale of hay or something.
- 36:28And I'm like. Not very bright.
- 36:29It's not very big and it's still relatively light out.
- 36:33So the fact that he sort of sees this thing happen in the paddock
- 36:36and then decides to go in and he's like sifting through what
- 36:40is effectively like the ground. This is a 6 foot monster that
- 36:43just fell into this area. I have no patience for that.
- 36:46So I'm glad he got clubbed to that.
- 36:48Seemingly, yes. That's right.
- 36:49Seemingly, Rick wants out. Rick wants in.
- 36:58Well, Rick wants in, and if he can't get in, he wants.
- 37:00He wants out. We're aware that it's his car,
- 37:04they got smashed, so he's upset, he's pretty disappointed, he's
- 37:07just going to leave. But Chris wants them and she
- 37:11doesn't play. Fair.
- 37:12No, no. So they go off.
- 37:15Yeah. They're having a little chat.
- 37:16Yeah. They.
- 37:17Rick wants to probe what is holding Chris back.
- 37:21She's got a story that she needs to share.
- 37:24That's right. And it was going to throw away
- 37:25line earlier. And now she gets a little bit
- 37:27more discussion around she was attacked two years ago.
- 37:31Two years ago, there was some monster in the woods.
- 37:34We got some flashback into it. And what's interesting is and
- 37:37you don't really see a lot of it, but if you did a little
- 37:39digging, you would see that the makeup of the attacker, that
- 37:44scene was shot early in the production and it's a Stan
- 37:47Winston makeup. And by the time they made the
- 37:51movie or like they shot the rest of it, he had been fired or quit
- 37:55Winston and they hired someone else.
- 37:57And so the Jason design that we see by the end of the movie is
- 38:01not evident in that scene, but they cut around it so much.
- 38:04But if you freeze frame or. I would never.
- 38:07Pay particular close attention to those chase sequences.
- 38:09It's a completely different Jason.
- 38:11Yeah, this is not a freeze frame movie for me.
- 38:13It's just a Fast forward, quick as we can folks.
- 38:16What this also does is it gets them away.
- 38:20That's right. And I I know you know the
- 38:23tricks. I know the tricks now.
- 38:24So I know now these will be the last two.
- 38:28Gotcha. Confirmed.
- 38:29Yeah, yeah, Locked in, guaranteed.
- 38:32And I was not wrong. And that's OK.
- 38:34Yeah, that's fine. We do get the juggling scene
- 38:37that I talked about earlier. Yes.
- 38:39And what's more fun than juggling?
- 38:41What else could you do with your hands, Phillip?
- 38:45Well, put me on a hammock and let me know.
- 38:48Give me your history with hammocks.
- 38:49Things have been done on a hammock, yes.
- 38:51Yeah. OK, well, you're quick to
- 38:52answer. That, well, it's reality.
- 38:54You knew I was. I don't have to think about it.
- 38:55You knew I was going to ask as. Well, I think so, for sure.
- 38:58But in terms of, you know, those are the halcyon days of youth.
- 39:01You know, in my present day, a hammock is back for lounging on
- 39:05a Sunday afternoon, avoiding doing housework.
- 39:07Yeah, you're not getting out of that easily, you know what I
- 39:09mean? Which I like that Debbie kind of
- 39:11that kind of calls him out on that too.
- 39:12Like what do you even do? Like, well, you get on top of me
- 39:14or I'll get on top of you. We'll make it work.
- 39:16You make. It work.
- 39:16That's a good attitude to have towards hammock sex and that's
- 39:21hard to say. I've never said it before and
- 39:24like I mentioned last movie Phillip, I said this.
- 39:28If you recall, there's a pre sex death and a post sex death.
- 39:34Unfortunately there's no pre sex death in this.
- 39:38It's just post sex. They were able to.
- 39:41I mean, I guess if you look at it.
- 39:43Well, everything is I guess. Yeah.
- 39:44I mean, if you look at it, everybody that isn't having sex
- 39:46in this movie is technically. Presexual, I guess.
- 39:48All right, there you go. So you can, you can.
- 39:50Hold my theory stands. That's right.
- 39:52But they're able to Make Love. They're doing the humpy dump.
- 39:55But we don't. They don't show it.
- 39:56They they just fortunately. We just know she just crawls
- 39:59into bed, crawls into bed, Little side boob, little side
- 40:01boob for you. She's your gal and we move away.
- 40:07Right. The last thing I want to see
- 40:10after Debbie Saibu is fucking Shelly, who is bizarrely you.
- 40:15Define explain to me what Shelly is wearing in the scene and see
- 40:20if you can explain to me why he's wearing it.
- 40:22Are you talking about where he's underwater?
- 40:24Yes. Why is he underwater?
- 40:27I don't know how he got in there.
- 40:29He was last seen at the fire poking it.
- 40:33Yes. And Vera walks to the dock.
- 40:37She's just putting her feet in. Yeah.
- 40:40And as you do. And let me look at my watch.
- 40:43It's time for a fake scare. And he comes up out of the
- 40:48water. Wearing a wet suit.
- 40:50Wearing a wet suit which he must have packed.
- 40:52And a harpoon. Because he has to be fully
- 40:54covered to go swimming. Of course he's not going to.
- 40:55Be skinny to be skinny dipping. He's not skinny enough to be
- 40:57skinny dipping. And he's wearing what appears to
- 41:00be a hockey. Mask.
- 41:01Yeah, it's the hockey mask. It's the introduction of the
- 41:05hockey. Oh, that's the one, Yeah.
- 41:08Oh. This is an iconic moment in the
- 41:10Friday the 13th lore. Oh, and Jason takes it, Yeah.
- 41:14Oh, have you seen the movie All of this Happens?
- 41:16Well, I just thought he had they shopped at the same place.
- 41:19I I don't know. I did not like that scene I
- 41:23wrote down. Please kill Shelley.
- 41:24Yeah, he's got to go. If no, we're the only for that.
- 41:28It's the introduction of the hockey mask.
- 41:29But I wonder we've got Shelley underneath the water wearing a
- 41:33hockey mask. The hockey mask is not goggles,
- 41:35so it doesn't help regulate breathing underwater.
- 41:40It's in fact got a lot of holes in it.
- 41:43So I don't really understand why the hockey mask and the wet suit
- 41:48and the harpoon. It's like interesting
- 41:50combination. Are all together with this guy
- 41:54who likes pranks like none of it makes any sense except for to
- 41:58set up the next thing. But the hockey mask is going to
- 42:03you know, it's obviously going to play a large factor into the
- 42:05rest of the series. Another 10 movies.
- 42:07I'm embarrassed that I didn't put those two together.
- 42:09I am embarrassed for you because it's it's like the moment, well,
- 42:13you know, but this titular this hockey mask iconic thing is the
- 42:19fact that it's introduced in such a stupid manner manner with
- 42:23Shelly. It's both exciting because it
- 42:27and at the time you're not thinking this.
- 42:28Of course, it's only through the benefit of 40 years of this
- 42:30movie but or these movies that you don't know in the moment
- 42:33maybe that it's going to become the iconic image from this
- 42:36series and one of the most identifiable movie props of all
- 42:41time. Regardless of your liking or not
- 42:43of a horror movie, it is iconic. That it's introduced in such a
- 42:45silly, slapdash way is ridiculous.
- 42:47Yeah, to see the birth of it is underwhelming.
- 42:51Yeah, yeah. But yeah, my comment here is
- 42:54Shelly sucks. Why is a hockey mask?
- 42:58Why a spear? This guy's an idiot.
- 43:01Why this movie? You're right.
- 43:03But right after that, we get to see Jason in the hockey mask, so
- 43:09we assume that Shelley is dispatched.
- 43:13I know we don't see Shelley's death, which is disappointing
- 43:16because I want to see him suffer.
- 43:17Yeah, no, me too. Me too.
- 43:20But you're right that that actually makes sense that he's
- 43:23now killed Shelley. OK, I'm too busy holding out
- 43:27hope. That this isn't.
- 43:29That Vera will somehow have to go into the water what she does
- 43:33for the wallet but would have to take off her top to do.
- 43:36So sure, that makes sense. There's.
- 43:38Still, this little sliver of hope, that sliver closes very
- 43:43quickly. So what I hope is the best scene
- 43:47of the movie becomes at least the best kill.
- 43:50Oh yeah, this is. That you're calling it this I'm
- 43:53calling. It you gave me a hard time last
- 43:55movie. Yep, for not having one.
- 43:57For not having one at all. Teed up for you.
- 43:59What's your favorite kill? I said, well, it's all bad.
- 44:02Yeah. This, to me anyway, is the
- 44:04winner. Great, I have another one that I
- 44:07place a little higher. I know which one is yours.
- 44:09This one, this is your #2 I know that.
- 44:11It is #2I. Know it's the shit.
- 44:13I think it's really cool. Yeah, Harpoon.
- 44:15Right through the eye. Right through the eye, which
- 44:17helps on the 3D front. I can see it now.
- 44:19I think the makeup, I think the makeup on her face I think works
- 44:25fully. Absolutely.
- 44:26And what really sticks out to me in later watches, when having
- 44:30seen this now a number of times, is the casual nature that Jason
- 44:35approaches this whole thing. Oh, the way he walks away.
- 44:38Walks up quietly and methodically.
- 44:41Just sets up the harpoon, shoots her in the face, lowers his arm,
- 44:46drops it casually on the dock, turns around casually and just
- 44:50strolls away. It's the casual nature of these
- 44:53kills that I think make Jason. Lazy.
- 44:57Well, I think what it helps kind of create the mystique of a
- 45:02mindless, soulless, thoughtless killer, which is sort of the
- 45:06Halloween paradigm doesn't talk, there's no personality, creates
- 45:11a certain ambiance to me. I didn't get that I have to go
- 45:15the other way on that one and I was comparing it to Halloween.
- 45:18I'm thinking I'm not really enjoying this Jason guy as a bad
- 45:23guy. I'm.
- 45:24Going. To tell I'm going to say it now.
- 45:27What you're saying is casual and kind of creepy in that sense.
- 45:32I'm thinking it's just not a very interesting bad guy.
- 45:36This is the trade off. We talked about this when we
- 45:38were making that fork in the road.
- 45:40Because Freddy is all personality, right?
- 45:43Like that guy just got jokes. He's got quips, he's serious
- 45:46visual style he's got. Great parties.
- 45:49And a lot of opportunity for that over the course of, you
- 45:51know, 8 or 9 movies. This guy, another silent killer.
- 45:56You don't get personality, so you're going to lose a little
- 46:00bit of that weight along the way.
- 46:01I never lost it with Mr. Myers. Well, I don't know how.
- 46:06Cause his cause, the production value.
- 46:09There's something about Michael's look that is enough.
- 46:12I don't want him to talk. I just want him to exist.
- 46:15And the way it's filmed like his, his pop ends, I think are
- 46:20just better done like it's yeah. We're still early in this
- 46:24series, so my hope is, or my thinking is that while you might
- 46:27feel that way now, 456, you know, there might be some room
- 46:31to kind of develop the character a little bit more than what
- 46:33you're anticipating today. But I think it's too late.
- 46:38Yeah. I don't think you're going to be
- 46:40able to capture something knowing this.
- 46:42This is the foundation of Jason. I've seen him without his mask.
- 46:48I'm not impressed. He's just freaky looking guy.
- 46:51He's. Got a freak on it, yeah.
- 46:52He's lazy, he's moving slowly, too casual.
- 46:55Yes, he's doing killing and it's looks painful, but I'm not
- 46:59scared of him, if that makes sense.
- 47:02Where? Mike Myers.
- 47:04You had some fear in there. I had fear, like when he's
- 47:07popping up on the screen and there and he just shows up.
- 47:10I am scared. I'm not really scared of Jason.
- 47:15All right, well, we'll try and change your mind over the next
- 47:1710 movies. 9 movies. Yeah, but my my fear is if they
- 47:22do too much change, it will not be true to what they've set up.
- 47:26This series if anything is a good example of what Nightmare
- 47:31does is reinvent itself I think every movie.
- 47:33You mentioned that. Yeah, and that's one of the fun
- 47:35things about it. The stuff with Jason and Friday
- 47:3813th I think are more incremental.
- 47:40So you're seeing it already, right?
- 47:41One into two is kind of the same, but just slightly EA.
- 47:44Sports. Exactly.
- 47:45It's it's more aligned with that.
- 47:47Yeah, 3 is take the elements that worked and tweak it a
- 47:50little bit. Now the pregnancy thing is maybe
- 47:52not really tweaking it, but the 3D thing is right when 4 comes,
- 47:55you'll see certain elements are tweaked again, and five tweaks
- 47:59it again and six tweaks it again.
- 48:01So it's still the same foundation, like you're saying,
- 48:04but each movie kind of brings something new to the to the
- 48:07table, whether that's the group of counselors is is different
- 48:10and sometimes more dynamic, sometimes not.
- 48:12The storyline around it is better or the makeup effect is,
- 48:15is cooler. The special effects of the kills
- 48:17get a little more elaborate or whatever.
- 48:19So there's new elements coming into play, even if the movie
- 48:23fundamentally doesn't change. Yeah.
- 48:25OK, all right. But this kill was awesome.
- 48:28Yeah, the kill itself is awesome.
- 48:30To get back to that, the kill, the kill.
- 48:32The kill was good. The kill was good.
- 48:33That's right. And similar to the formula in
- 48:36the first couple of movies, we're going to get a a bunch of
- 48:39kills down. Yeah.
- 48:40Once it starts. Yeah, it starts.
- 48:42Yeah, You have your to the beginning, wait for a bit, get a
- 48:46kill and then unleash. Yeah.
- 48:48And our next couple of victims, I believe Andy and Debbie.
- 48:54Yes, that's correct. Next on the slab.
- 48:57Yeah, it gets drawn. Out a little bit.
- 48:59I like this one. I find this one to be drawn out.
- 49:02The right amount, like yeah, the right amount, yeah.
- 49:04OK. I'm going to give Jim.
- 49:05I like to. Pay off and I like the stuff in
- 49:07between so for me it does it works.
- 49:08OK, does doing hand stands work? For you that is a strange thing
- 49:13which I am sure is this guy does hand stands.
- 49:17Might as well get him to do hand stands, right?
- 49:19And during his audition or something, I can juggle and I
- 49:22can walk on my hands and someone goes, great, that's your
- 49:24character now. Can you handstand?
- 49:26Maybe try. I haven't.
- 49:27I've stood on my hands, but walking to and from, that's not
- 49:31a thing. That was a thing.
- 49:31Back then I remember people at school trying to trying to do
- 49:34it. I just.
- 49:35It's an 82 thing I guess, like an. 8080 to 85, buddy, a good
- 49:39five year stretch of handstanding.
- 49:42Nonetheless, I think we know that's not going to end well.
- 49:46No, I think it kind of odd that they try and play it for a
- 49:50horror beat. If you recall, Debbie's in the
- 49:52shower and he walks in and the way the camera is shot, you're
- 49:57seeing a shadow and the but you see his feet above the.
- 50:02So it's really not that scary. No, but I like that they're
- 50:05trying. Yeah, I like that Debbie's in
- 50:06the shower. Yeah, of course you do.
- 50:07And and this is your favorite death?
- 50:12Correct. Yeah, You saw that coming, Andy
- 50:14dying and the way in which he dies, I think is great.
- 50:16I think the way that it's played out is, is well done.
- 50:19I like to get me a beer. I don't like that.
- 50:21Debbie continues to say Andy, Andy.
- 50:23That's good. You do a good.
- 50:24Debbie over and over and over again.
- 50:27But I like that he's sort of caught in this, like, back and
- 50:29forth thing. I'll get you a beer, no problem.
- 50:31And yeah, you see Jason's silhouette and then he turns
- 50:36around, sees Jason get that great hero money shot, the
- 50:40hockey mask and the axe coming right up the middle.
- 50:44Right up the middle. Yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 50:46It's so good. Vertical.
- 50:47Or is that horizontal? Well, we find out later.
- 50:49It turns out that somehow physics didn't really work out
- 50:52in Andy's favor and he gets cut in half horizontally.
- 50:55Does that bother you? No, not enough, because I think
- 50:59the killer is still strong enough.
- 51:00It's a quick shot in the moment. It's such a quick shot.
- 51:02Again, you have to really pay attention to.
- 51:04What matter? You're a frame freezer.
- 51:06I do enjoy that and try and frame by frame kind of watch how
- 51:10the magic is done, where the edit is and so forth.
- 51:13How did Jason get him up there in the rafter?
- 51:16Is that a rafter? It could be rafter, Sure, you
- 51:19got to do it delicately. I mean, it's a.
- 51:21Bouncing act, I guess it's two pieces that makes it a little
- 51:24bit lighter. That's right, but it's above the
- 51:26hammock for those who don't know.
- 51:27Yes, Tracy Savage, playing Debbie comes out of the shower,
- 51:31decides against the beer. Good call.
- 51:34She's pregnant. That's right.
- 51:35Back then it was OK. Yeah.
- 51:36You wouldn't think about this. Take as much Tylenol and beer as
- 51:39you want and she's reading a magazine.
- 51:44My favorite magazine growing up, Fangoria.
- 51:46We talked a little bit about this before.
- 51:47Yes, I love Fangoria magazine. We still do.
- 51:50It's now only physical copies and they only do quarterly
- 51:53issues, but for a long time I would buy every month.
- 51:57I believed it. I believe it.
- 51:59We get a little blood ribbage. Yeah, it's a little like it's
- 52:03almost exactly actually it's Kevin Bacon.
- 52:06Yeah. If you remember, there's that
- 52:07same drip from a ball I remember.
- 52:09Gets the knife up the throat. Back when the kills were.
- 52:12Good. Yeah, I was going to say I
- 52:13disliked. I prefer the bacon kill to this
- 52:16one because of the blood I find when she gets stabbed in the
- 52:19throat. This time, it's almost
- 52:21bloodless. Yeah, I guess it depends if you
- 52:23hit. An artery?
- 52:25Yeah, it just looks like going through makeup, whereas the
- 52:28first one looked like yeah, going through a throat.
- 52:31Yeah, I think that Kevin Bacon 1 still holds up his number one.
- 52:34Yeah, it's it's it's, I want to be clear with that.
- 52:36Iconic. It's really good.
- 52:38We're in the third installment now.
- 52:39The kills are adding up. You can rank them all.
- 52:41Yeah, but she's dead, which is too bad.
- 52:45Yeah, it's really too bad. What isn't too bad, of course,
- 52:47is Shelley. Because luckily to ease my heart
- 52:51after death Deb's murder is we get the reveal of Shelley with
- 52:56his throat slit, still wearing the wet suit.
- 52:59So dumb. But everyone of course now,
- 53:01because he's cried wolf a couple of times.
- 53:03Oh God, I saw this one coming a mile.
- 53:05Oh Shelly, you couldn't possibly be, and they don't like it.
- 53:11So this is the moment of shining for Cheech and Dem Chong.
- 53:22The power goes out and so forth. O here's another sort of set
- 53:25piece moment for two people to die a little bit more
- 53:28elaborately then. Well, you got to mix it U right?
- 53:30Yeah, you got to mix it U we have a fuse issue.
- 53:34I think we had a fuse issue in the second one didn't.
- 53:36They there might have been a fuse issue.
- 53:37Yeah, there might have been. And, you know there was.
- 53:39Yeah, there could have been. And he's a little scaredy cat,
- 53:43Yes. But I mean, I don't blame him.
- 53:45Of course not. You know, He's high.
- 53:47He's a little. Paranoid.
- 53:48Oh yeah, for sure. And all the while she's making
- 53:50the popcorn and that's not a 3D effect.
- 53:52You see that 3D, the popcorn coming out.
- 53:55But yes, he's in the fuse and you just know it's not going to
- 53:57end well. But I don't.
- 53:58I find fuse box kills like we talked about in Halloween 4.
- 54:00Actually it's easy like and Halloween 6.
- 54:04I just don't buy it. You have a like a rolodex of
- 54:07ways to kill people. And yeah, OK, it's time for an
- 54:10electrocution. I'm OK with that.
- 54:12And of course, Jason finds his way back up to the main floor.
- 54:19Fem Chong has accepted Annie has died and she's a little panicked
- 54:25and she goes upstairs, may have seen something.
- 54:28We don't see if she sees anything.
- 54:30Yeah, we're not really sure exactly, but.
- 54:32It doesn't matter too much, she's dead in the 8 seconds
- 54:34exactly. Exactly.
- 54:35If she saw something, she didn't live to tell.
- 54:37About it, it was foreshadowed that someone's going to get it
- 54:39with the hot poker. The hot poker.
- 54:41Thank you. I wasn't sure what exactly what
- 54:43that was called. It is called a hot poker and she
- 54:46gets poked. Yeah, that was my name in high
- 54:48school. Yeah.
- 54:51Given by yourself exactly. Yeah.
- 54:54She has an interesting reaction. Yeah, I thought you might catch
- 54:58this. It it reminds me a lot of that
- 55:00kill with the axe in the first one in the bathroom.
- 55:03In the bathroom. Yeah, just the second one in
- 55:05the. Corner and the corner it.
- 55:07Just yeah, it has check mark. Yeah, here's our.
- 55:10Bland kill. Bland kill.
- 55:12No scream. There's no.
- 55:13Good weapon, no? Energy, just solid weaponry.
- 55:15Yeah, I like that for sure. Yeah.
- 55:23We have 25 minutes left. What is going on, Phil?
- 55:27I think it's a bad call. Everybody's been dispatched.
- 55:29So the only two that are left really are Rick, Rick and Chris.
- 55:33Chris, it is a bad call it. Comes back to what I said in the
- 55:36beginning. Pacing.
- 55:38Yeah, I I have my concerns. I'm already not loving the movie
- 55:44because the acting is so poor. Shelly is annoying me.
- 55:47It's too much. Veer is dead.
- 55:48So that's it. And died early, I mean,
- 55:51relatively early, yeah. Yeah, so I don't really see this
- 55:55movie getting any better. They do give you a little bit of
- 55:59hope here. I, I personally enjoy this kill.
- 56:01I like you know Rick and Chris are here to save the day.
- 56:04Except Rick almost immediately gets cornered and his head gets
- 56:09closed. You love that.
- 56:11I was really a big fan. The IPOP says IPOP, which again,
- 56:14if you pay close attention, you can see the string.
- 56:16But the 3D effect in that moment is good.
- 56:18I looked away. What I really like about it more
- 56:20than anything, though, is the the way it's shot.
- 56:22He's around the corner, kind of being stymied and like wrestling
- 56:27for his life before his eye pops and Chris is in the foreground
- 56:32looking. And so just that paradoxical,
- 56:35it's all about the angle, what terror is happening around the
- 56:38corner and how she's oblivious to it.
- 56:39I think that is always going to be effective from a horror movie
- 56:42perspective. And then this moment I was like,
- 56:44yeah, that that's the kind of kill I want.
- 56:46Well, if nothing else, this film was shot well.
- 56:48Yeah, certain parts of it anyway.
- 56:50And then Rick comes through the window like a human cat.
- 56:56Yeah, Chris is just finding a bunch of dead people.
- 56:58And then. Yeah.
- 56:59Yeah, that goes without saying. Yes, that happens every movie.
- 57:02Yeah, but that's the thing, right?
- 57:03So this is the moment where she kind of gets to reveal that
- 57:05everybody is dead. She sees the tub and so forth.
- 57:09Let's talk just before we get too deep into Chris.
- 57:12Now those those as the Sole Survivor here.
- 57:14She's the chosen. One let's go comparisons, short
- 57:18conversation, but in terms of Alice and Ginny and now Chris,
- 57:23like for me, speaking for myself anyway, Ginny is my gal,
- 57:26particularly as a last, you know, a last person.
- 57:28I think she's fairly strong. She's got she manipulates pretty
- 57:32well with the trickery with the sweater, so on.
- 57:35Alice obviously pretty aggressive.
- 57:37Chris is my third, like at bottom for me.
- 57:39Where? Where do you think she is on
- 57:41your school? She is a bronze.
- 57:43I might have gold and silver reversed.
- 57:45OK. I think Alice is the gal.
- 57:47She she did behead somebody. Yeah, and she just did more I
- 57:50think there's. More fight to.
- 57:52Her Yeah, I didn't mind Ginny, but I know it's because you have
- 57:55a soft spot for Amy Steele and that's the fogging your decision
- 57:58here it. Could be it, could be.
- 58:00I'll admit it. But we can both agree for sure
- 58:02this is a for now bronze and could be could be pushed to 4th.
- 58:06Oh, as we go for a movie? Absolutely.
- 58:08We'll do, you know, a final tally of the school survivors,
- 58:11of course. I can see that in our in our
- 58:13grim future. But I find her to be bad.
- 58:18And I think part of the issues you're having with the movie are
- 58:20the same of the issues that I have, which is, as a final girl,
- 58:24recognizing the tone and the style of these types of movies.
- 58:27I don't really like her. Yeah.
- 58:28I haven't been given anything to connect with from a character
- 58:32perspective, from a performance perspective, from anything.
- 58:35So the fact that she's who we have left and she feels
- 58:39helpless. Jenny and Alice both felt
- 58:42capable. She doesn't feel capable.
- 58:45She runs. She's a good runner.
- 58:46And she's begging for Rick to help her and save.
- 58:48Her good beggar. I don't.
- 58:50There's very little action that I feel she's taking until
- 58:54obviously it counts, but I don't get the battle.
- 58:57I just didn't feel like she was strong.
- 58:58I don't think it's all her fault.
- 59:00Fair. Now that Rick is dispatched, we
- 59:03still have 23 minutes that she needs to carry this film.
- 59:09I don't think that's fair. Yeah, the movie doesn't do her
- 59:11in a favor. No.
- 59:13Right. It's back to the barn, it's back
- 59:15to the van. It's back to the cabin, It's
- 59:17back to the van. It's so yeah, there's a lot of
- 59:21shoe leather and dead weight where it should be.
- 59:24Amping doesn't ramp, it doesn't get exciting.
- 59:26It just. It gets windy.
- 59:28It gets. Very windy, very windy.
- 59:30That's something that's not so that's short, but things like
- 59:33upstairs where she's fake locking the door like that is
- 59:37meaningless. He's going to check every door.
- 59:39He doesn't know which door it is totally.
- 59:42And she puts herself in a in a room that has no real exit, but
- 59:48luckily, at least in the room, there's a body there.
- 59:51So she has a knife. That's right.
- 59:53And she doesn't really want to take it out of the body.
- 59:55And I get it. Yeah, it's probably not easy
- 59:57dead. Friend.
- 59:58Yeah, but it gives her the opportunity.
- 1:00:00With Shelly you want to do a stab a couple more times.
- 1:00:03To make sure since I have the chance.
- 1:00:05Meanwhile, while I'm waiting to die, I might as well give Shelly
- 1:00:08a couple more shots. And now that you've mentioned
- 1:00:11this whole 3D thing, yeah, I'll let it slide that when she gets
- 1:00:14out of the room, she's hit him once.
- 1:00:16Yeah, yeah, yeah. She just tries to.
- 1:00:18Swiping at the screen. Swiping at air, Yeah, I'm like,
- 1:00:21come on. It just doesn't look good from a
- 1:00:232D perspective. Sure does get him finally in the
- 1:00:26leg. Yes.
- 1:00:27So he is in terms of the Tea Party, walking wounded.
- 1:00:33That just came to me. Yeah.
- 1:00:35Genius. That might be Canadian Tea
- 1:00:37Party. Yeah, Kevin coming down.
- 1:00:40She does end up in another room. Luckily.
- 1:00:43There's a chair and a window. Thank goodness, thank goodness.
- 1:00:47It's very important to have a chair wherever you go in case
- 1:00:50you want to sit. Or you need to escape.
- 1:00:52Or you need to escape because there's almost like there's no
- 1:00:54way out. And Jason gets a little bit of
- 1:00:56the fabric, you know, when she's trying to get out of the window.
- 1:00:59So you think you know they're. Going to get some boobs.
- 1:01:03Yeah, I'm not in the mood now. Yeah, not in the mood.
- 1:01:07The mood is over. Mood is gone.
- 1:01:10Yeah, this chase sequence again just drags on for too long.
- 1:01:12Again, back on the bridge, What I do like, and I mentioned the
- 1:01:15beginning where the scene where his arms are rolled up into the
- 1:01:18window. Yeah.
- 1:01:19Of the van. Yeah.
- 1:01:20And then he breaks the van with his with his head brand new
- 1:01:23hockey mask. Well, you know, we got.
- 1:01:25To so I like that. Get your money's worth.
- 1:01:27But yeah, it just it goes on for too long.
- 1:01:29They finally end up at the barn. The biggest set piece thing.
- 1:01:32I think it's cool that it's there because there's lots of
- 1:01:34opportunities and if you remember Halloween 5, there's a
- 1:01:38kill at the in the barn as well. Yeah, of course.
- 1:01:42You know, Halloween 5I was glued to the screen, buddy.
- 1:01:46She does a couple of things to win this battle.
- 1:01:49Yeah, she tries to. Fall on them?
- 1:01:51Yes. Yes.
- 1:01:52Didn't take, didn't take, didn't take.
- 1:01:54She's not. She doesn't have the.
- 1:01:55She's not the. Great, Jason's a six.
- 1:01:58What? 6/4 at.
- 1:01:59Least. Yeah.
- 1:02:00Yeah, and a monster. He's the man of the land.
- 1:02:02That's right, we have really my one of my favorite moments in
- 1:02:06the whole movie. She fights back as best she can,
- 1:02:09but she gets him in a noose. Yeah, thanks to the shovel.
- 1:02:12Yeah, takes care of business that way.
- 1:02:14Boom. And basically hangs him.
- 1:02:17Yeah. And I love, I think, the hanging
- 1:02:19you love. A good hanging.
- 1:02:20I do love a good hanging. What I think is the hanging
- 1:02:22though, it looks real like it. Like obviously it's not, but
- 1:02:25like in terms of the effect. Never really thought of it, just
- 1:02:28looked good but yeah. Furthermore, this is the only
- 1:02:30part of Chris's behavior or or performance in the movie I like,
- 1:02:34which is this last five to seven minutes.
- 1:02:36So from the reveal that he's alive after the noose and the
- 1:02:39way that she shakes her head, I feel like there's genuine fear,
- 1:02:43terror there. Gotcha.
- 1:02:44And then the reveal and she's like, it's you.
- 1:02:47Oh. He flips up the mask.
- 1:02:48Up the mask to get the noose off.
- 1:02:51That's the big reveal, buddy. I know, but he's doing like,
- 1:02:53it's me. I'm like dude.
- 1:02:57Cheesy. Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:02:58I you know, he has to take him out in the noose.
- 1:03:00You got to do. I know, but just his look at his
- 1:03:03look on. His face, that's fair.
- 1:03:06But yeah, so that and like her terror to that point.
- 1:03:08And then he starts approaching her again before, of course, the
- 1:03:12hero comes. Finally, our final guy, the big
- 1:03:15hero of the of the day. Yeah, he comes back to.
- 1:03:18Die again? Yeah, he gets to die twice.
- 1:03:20Not everybody gets to die twice in a Jason movie, Muffin.
- 1:03:23It's true. Muffin came back the day, I
- 1:03:27guess he didn't club him enough. One more clubbing is what was
- 1:03:30needed. I guess his arm like got
- 1:03:32Skywalker. I don't know if Jason's his dad,
- 1:03:35but that sucks. Like you again.
- 1:03:40You survive, you come back to play the hero and you just die.
- 1:03:45Totally. Come on, Allie.
- 1:03:47Yeah, it's a bit of a misdirection.
- 1:03:49The hero's coming to save the day and then he dies.
- 1:03:51There's some drama in that. I don't think this movie does
- 1:03:53that well enough, but conceptually I like that idea.
- 1:03:57The idea is fantastic, the execution is.
- 1:03:59There are other movies that will come off the shelf that that do
- 1:04:01that kind of implement that much better.
- 1:04:03I hope so. But I do enjoy the fact that at
- 1:04:06least in this moment, there's like a bit of hope and then like
- 1:04:08no hope at all. Like a New Hope.
- 1:04:13That's right. And you'll find this comes into
- 1:04:15play further down the franchise. But the axe of the head and the
- 1:04:21way, once again, Chris just plays this perfectly.
- 1:04:24Like when? She's amazing in this she.
- 1:04:26Just in this these last like 3 minutes, I think she's
- 1:04:28absolutely terrible throughout the rest of the movie.
- 1:04:30But the way that she plays scared everything else she plays
- 1:04:33I think is bad. But what's the the fear that she
- 1:04:35plays when she hits him with the axe and the arms come up and
- 1:04:39she's shocked like she's like I? What else?
- 1:04:42Could I do? What do you want from?
- 1:04:45Yeah, what else could I do? And then his hands again in the
- 1:04:483D effect, kind of reaching for the audience before finally
- 1:04:51collapsing. That to me, I maybe is where, if
- 1:04:55I can think back to what I loved about the movie when I was
- 1:04:57younger, it's likely those moments more so than anything at
- 1:05:01the beginning, the last three minutes, the last like 5 or 7
- 1:05:03minutes of bloodied and beaten and bruised and hung and axe to
- 1:05:08the head like that stuff. And her fear, I think, is
- 1:05:12probably something not the first with me not.
- 1:05:13The first hour 20. No, of course not.
- 1:05:16Unfortunately, it comes at the tail end of a.
- 1:05:18Little too late. Yeah.
- 1:05:19Of a bad movie, Yeah. And it's about to get worse.
- 1:05:22Talk to me. Oh, just the last everything
- 1:05:26after this. Yeah, talk to me.
- 1:05:27That's introducing. Yeah, you wanna know?
- 1:05:30You wanna know She heads to No Name Lake.
- 1:05:36Yeah, we don't know. Which isn't much of A lake.
- 1:05:39No, looks like a swamp. This swamp looks very small and.
- 1:05:42Yeah, like Lake Placid Swampy might be an alligator in there.
- 1:05:48Yeah, maybe worst canoe driving I've ever seen.
- 1:05:51Yeah, it's bad, but it's also not enough room to really do
- 1:05:54anything. Yeah, it's all weird Now.
- 1:05:56Here we have a repeat of the original.
- 1:05:59We have someone in canoe who has fallen asleep.
- 1:06:03He's in the top floor again. We see his face and I think.
- 1:06:08Bloodied up too. Yeah, but again, there's no he
- 1:06:10just looks weird. He's a weird guy.
- 1:06:13He's not a scary guy. He's just weird looking.
- 1:06:15I think it's too much of the Goonies because of Lost, so I
- 1:06:19had that image of him. That's why I don't find him
- 1:06:22scary. Where Myers?
- 1:06:24Because you never see the face and the mechanic jumpsuit is
- 1:06:29just an amazing look. And that's that's not my fault.
- 1:06:34Yeah, no, OK, that I don't think he's scary.
- 1:06:37No, that's totally fair. And the Goonies comparison is
- 1:06:39interesting because that came out a year after this.
- 1:06:42But the the makeup jobs I can see.
- 1:06:44Yeah, sloth elements. There for sure yours weird
- 1:06:47looking sure anyways. And then he disappears.
- 1:06:51That was a dream. I guess because missus voorhies
- 1:06:55comes out of the water. Yeah.
- 1:06:56What are your thoughts on this? I got, I'm really, I wrote down
- 1:06:59here like ask Dave, let Dave riff.
- 1:07:02I just wrote down. So dumb.
- 1:07:06I did not like it. Explain why it's dumb.
- 1:07:09It's incredibly stupid if it's not a dream.
- 1:07:12Yeah, sure. If it is a dream sequence, why
- 1:07:16would you be dreaming about someone that you've never met?
- 1:07:18Correct. There's one more element too
- 1:07:21that's that is even more stupid than all of that.
- 1:07:24It's just like he was in the water in the first one, now it's
- 1:07:27bomb in the water in the third one.
- 1:07:28Like it's mom's head cut off. That too.
- 1:07:33That's what's so dumb about it to me.
- 1:07:34I'm just like it doesn't. Make any sense?
- 1:07:36I was going to give it some leniency because, oh, it's just
- 1:07:38a dream, fine, but again, she wouldn't be dreaming of Missus
- 1:07:42Voori's She. Wouldn't have any idea who that
- 1:07:43person is. Yeah, ridiculous.
- 1:07:45Totally ridiculous. I agree and the effect looks
- 1:07:47stupid. Oh, I like it.
- 1:07:49Looks fact. Oh, that was great.
- 1:07:50I thought it looked bad. Oh man, the worms coming out of
- 1:07:53the face, like I just, I didn't like anything.
- 1:07:55I'd be shaking my. She was wearing the sweater
- 1:07:56though. Oh nice, I love that sweater if
- 1:07:58you recall. So I like that the sweater at
- 1:08:00least is continuity wise, but like the rest of it, doesn't
- 1:08:03make any sense at all. So the least you could do is get
- 1:08:04the sweater right? Yeah.
- 1:08:07And then obviously, like every other movie, she's just
- 1:08:09hysterical. Yeah, this is a little different
- 1:08:12too, because Alice wasn't hysterical and neither was
- 1:08:15Ginny. Oh, never mind, take it back.
- 1:08:17When they left, oh, they were fine.
- 1:08:19Ginny was looking for Paul, but she wasn't like screaming or
- 1:08:21shrieking or anything. And Alice wasn't where she.
- 1:08:24It cuts from the, oh, hospital. Yeah, to the hospital.
- 1:08:26So again, there's none. Of that one would only assume.
- 1:08:29But in this instance, she's shrieking and scared and yelling
- 1:08:33or whatever, and then it kind of starts to get, I don't know if
- 1:08:36you caught, but like a hint of laughter.
- 1:08:38Little bit yeah, as they're. Kind of pulling out and she's
- 1:08:41looking out kind of crazy eyed. So it's an interesting way to
- 1:08:45end the movie is if like, she's completely broken, basically.
- 1:08:48I will give her good performance for last minute.
- 1:08:51You can give it from before in the barn.
- 1:08:53You go ahead, you can have that, it's all yours.
- 1:08:55But I'm taking this please. I think it's a strong
- 1:08:58performance in this last minute. I think so.
- 1:09:00That's we have 100 and 34 minutes of terrible acting by
- 1:09:04everybody, but we have one minute here.
- 1:09:06Yeah. And really reels me back in.
- 1:09:09I like that your math thinks that this movie is 2 hours and
- 1:09:1115 minutes. An hour 30.
- 1:09:14It's an hour 34. Yeah, you.
- 1:09:15Said 134 minutes though. Well, you know what I did?
- 1:09:17You know what I did? I made a mistake.
- 1:09:20Much like this film did. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:09:23I guess what I'll ask is, given that we'll have a little bit of
- 1:09:26time between between now and then when the next one happens,
- 1:09:28kind. Of want to watch it?
- 1:09:30Yeah, well, we'll get to it and we can make it.
- 1:09:32You know, we can move it up in this in the timeline.
- 1:09:33But just in terms of interest, because this one sort of didn't
- 1:09:38hit very well. What are your final thoughts on
- 1:09:41the movie? And then let me know if you're
- 1:09:44interested or excited or what are your thoughts on moving
- 1:09:46forward. You ready for this?
- 1:09:48Yes, hated it. Bad movie.
- 1:09:53Let's watch the next one, OK? So there's enough in there
- 1:09:56that's like. EA Sports.
- 1:09:58It's in the game man. Like I literally grabbed 4 and
- 1:10:01had it teed up ready to play. OK.
- 1:10:04Within 10 minutes of watching this one.
- 1:10:06Wow. And I did not like this movie.
- 1:10:08Yeah, no, I got that. Like I was and I was pretty
- 1:10:10nice. You'll have to admit that I kind
- 1:10:12of toned it down. I.
- 1:10:13Want you to be honest. I don't care if you're nice or
- 1:10:15not. Yeah, but again, I did like
- 1:10:18Virus Kill. Sure, that was tops.
- 1:10:20And I liked her generally. Yes, you did.
- 1:10:23But I don't like the villain. The acting was very poor.
- 1:10:26Shelly was actually just really hard to watch and the writing.
- 1:10:32But tell me now that we've watched 3, so they're all, you
- 1:10:36know, relatively fresh in your mind and you've watched them
- 1:10:40several times. Just going to give me an idea
- 1:10:42where you at this one compared to the the 1st 2:00.
- 1:10:45Yeah. I think what's funny is that I
- 1:10:46had said it was my favorite for a little while, and it's
- 1:10:50probably my least favorite of the three that we've watched.
- 1:10:52Yeah. It is, I mean.
- 1:10:53Like, it just doesn't deliver on the things that I would want it
- 1:10:56to it. I think it's more credit in the
- 1:10:58in hindsight because of the introduction of the hockey mask
- 1:11:02and the iconic kind of figure of Jason as Jason, as we know.
- 1:11:06Yeah. But nothing else that's like
- 1:11:08you're saying is brought to the table in this one really
- 1:11:11furthers the story, which, again, doesn't really matter.
- 1:11:13But but this cast don't need that is less interesting.
- 1:11:17The music wasn't no, it was a little different.
- 1:11:20Theme is actually probably the one take away that has lasted or
- 1:11:23like that that I like throughout.
- 1:11:26That was misleading totally, because I was really like.
- 1:11:29And there's a little funk to it, yeah.
- 1:11:30Like, I'm going to like this movie.
- 1:11:31And then once I, I got to know the people like, OK.
- 1:11:35Yeah, aside from it's too bad. There's always going to be
- 1:11:37pretty girls, always going to be pretty guys.
- 1:11:39Like it's just sort of the nature of the types of movies.
- 1:11:40But but there's nothing new to the table the 1st. 2 It went a
- 1:11:44little bit deeper with a few. Characters.
- 1:11:46I think so, yeah. Not a lot, but a little.
- 1:11:50Yep, especially the last one felt.
- 1:11:52Like humans. Yeah.
- 1:11:53This one doesn't really feel like too many humans even to say
- 1:11:55I'm pregnant. It doesn't add any weight to it.
- 1:11:58Yeah, I don't think. Yeah, it's bad acting.
- 1:12:01Yeah. So that's it.
- 1:12:02I just. It wasn't.
- 1:12:03It's not a favorite. It's it dropped pretty
- 1:12:05considerably even throughout the years, but certainly even on
- 1:12:07these watches, I'm just like, yeah, just.
- 1:12:09I can't really sell it. Now the good news is that.
- 1:12:13This is the worst one. No, I wouldn't say that.
- 1:12:15But it just, it starts to find its footing, right?
- 1:12:18We're now 3IN. So as things start to develop,
- 1:12:20the formula strengthens in some ways.
- 1:12:23And like I said, there's slight deviations and there's things to
- 1:12:25look forward to for better, for worse.
- 1:12:27Again, there's some good and some bad, but it's this one is
- 1:12:31an outlier in the the style of it and the 3D of it through.
- 1:12:35OK, well, obviously I'm ready to still give it a it's chance.
- 1:12:38Of course, as a as a whole franchise, I'm nothing if not.
- 1:12:42Reasonable Philip. That's right.
