- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome into this week's episode of Inside the Charge. I'm
- 0:02Speaker 1: Maddi Glab. In this week's podcast, we have one of
- 0:05Speaker 1: our wide receivers joining us, Khalil Shakir. Shakier talks all
- 0:08Speaker 1: about what he's learned in his four years in the league.
- 0:11Speaker 1: He dives into his incredible catch percentage, which leads the
- 0:15Speaker 1: NFL since twenty twenty three, why he's so good at
- 0:19Speaker 1: catching the football and staying up his contact balance. There's
- 0:23Speaker 1: a funny story that goes along with that answer.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Kilo.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Shakir also talks about why he loves listening to musical
- 0:31Speaker 1: soundtracks during his pregame warm ups and how that helps
- 0:35Speaker 1: get him in the mood for Sundays. Shakir also dives
- 0:39Speaker 1: into his love for dogs and how he's done some
- 0:42Speaker 1: pet adoptions here with the Bills and why he would
- 0:44Speaker 1: love to have fifteen dogs at home. We also talk
- 0:48Speaker 1: about the wide receiver room all the personalities that are
- 0:51Speaker 1: a part of it. It's a great episode. Cole also
- 0:54Speaker 1: talks about his military background and how he moved all
- 0:58Speaker 1: around as a kid and how that's helped him in
- 1:00Speaker 1: the NFL. You don't want to miss it. Enjoyed the episode.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Khlil.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Thanks for coming on to hang out and talk some
- 1:15Speaker 1: ball with me.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Of course, thanks for having me.
- 1:17Speaker 1: You're in your fourth NFL season. Where have you grown
- 1:20Speaker 1: the most?
- 1:23Speaker 2: I would just say we just learning the game.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Like I think, when you first get into the league,
- 1:28Speaker 3: you're adjusting to the speed of the game and just
- 1:33Speaker 3: a higher level of thinking, you know. I think in
- 1:35Speaker 3: Cadge you're in a eighteen to twenty two to twenty
- 1:39Speaker 3: three range and you can go into the league and
- 1:41Speaker 3: you know you're playing against grown men, you know. So
- 1:43Speaker 3: I think at first that's the biggest adjust adjustment is
- 1:46Speaker 3: not only growing physically but mentally as well. So I
- 1:50Speaker 3: think that's where I've kind of grown as the years.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Have went on, having a better understanding of the game.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Is there an area of the game where you feel
- 1:57Speaker 1: like you haven't mastered at this point in your career.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say I just just the feel for
- 2:03Speaker 3: the game, I'd say, And that's something that I feel
- 2:07Speaker 3: like only comes with, you know, getting the reps in
- 2:09Speaker 3: every single day. So I think, like I said, over
- 2:12Speaker 3: the years, just you know, figuring out the speed of
- 2:14Speaker 3: the game and has allowed me to you know, help myself,
- 2:18Speaker 3: you know, get open more with just overall feel.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Speaking of feel, you have incredible contact balance, Defenders try
- 2:25Speaker 1: to take you down, you stay on your feet. Where
- 2:28Speaker 1: does that come from?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Uh?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Well, the trainers would say I have short tibias. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 3: I guess I'm a little I'm built a little funny.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So yeah, I guess my my femurs, my femur is
- 2:42Speaker 3: longer than my tibias, and I guess by a decent amount.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So I guess they say somehow, maybe that that can
- 2:49Speaker 3: help with that, But I always just say I grew
- 2:53Speaker 3: up playing running back my whole life, Like I played
- 2:56Speaker 3: running back up until leave my sophomore year of high school,
- 3:01Speaker 3: and also with you know, footwork as well, huge on
- 3:06Speaker 3: soccer growing up, and I just think kind of all
- 3:07Speaker 3: those things you know, lead to now and being able
- 3:11Speaker 3: to do what I do.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So playing running back growing up, playing soccer as well,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you feel like you just have a better feel for
- 3:20Speaker 1: slipping through defenders and open zones to where you can
- 3:23Speaker 1: get those yak yards that you're known for.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's I think all that helps. And
- 3:27Speaker 3: then also I mean my dad was marine for twenty
- 3:30Speaker 3: four years and just you know, the the daily He's
- 3:34Speaker 3: my first coach, and growing up around Marines and being
- 3:38Speaker 3: coached by Marines and the hardcore level of training at
- 3:42Speaker 3: such a young age, and then seeing them do their
- 3:44Speaker 3: thing and their training I think kind of just you know,
- 3:48Speaker 3: helped me build a certain mentality as well.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Your dad was a marine. What's the hardest core thing
- 3:52Speaker 1: you had to do growing up?
- 3:54Speaker 3: It's funny, the only the main thing I think of
- 3:57Speaker 3: with punishment was wall sits, And I think, uh, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 3: instead of I guess all around was when stuff didn't
- 4:10Speaker 3: go well, whether school or you know, football, messed up
- 4:13Speaker 3: on a drior whatever, he would have us do wall sits,
- 4:16Speaker 3: you know, and I think that's something that's uh, that
- 4:19Speaker 3: was definitely one of hardest. I mean now as I
- 4:21Speaker 3: think I was like eight years old, nine years old,
- 4:25Speaker 3: so then it's like, uh, one thirty second walls it
- 4:29Speaker 3: may feel like, you know, twenty minutes, right, So I
- 4:31Speaker 3: think I would hope that I would do a lot
- 4:33Speaker 3: better at it now, But in the moment at a
- 4:35Speaker 3: as a young kid, it was worse thing ever.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I was gonna say, is there a close secure wall
- 4:38Speaker 1: sit record?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Uh? No, No.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Once once he stopped doing the wall sits as punishment,
- 4:44Speaker 3: for whatever, I stopped doing them.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So that was that was it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: There. Don't ask close to do a wal sit never.
- 4:50Speaker 2: No, I'm not going to do it. Unlocking memories.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Speaking of that military background, you moved a lot as
- 4:57Speaker 1: a kid, so you had to adapt to different lifestyles,
- 5:00Speaker 1: different environments. The NFL is all about adapting as well.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Your role is different every single season. How does that
- 5:06Speaker 1: military background and moving around help you in the NFL today?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, like you said, at a young age,
- 5:12Speaker 3: I moved around. I was born in Virginia, moved to Hawaii,
- 5:15Speaker 3: Hawaii to California, California to Japan, Japan, back to California.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And doing that at such a young age and having
- 5:23Speaker 3: to you know, be at a different schools and you know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: make new friends and just adjusting that way in the moment,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I didn't realize how much it would help me now
- 5:32Speaker 3: with just like you mentioned, just the you know, different
- 5:36Speaker 3: plays each week, playing in different cities each week, like whatever.
- 5:40Speaker 3: It is, all those little things that you know, I
- 5:42Speaker 3: kind of got to experience as a kid, I think
- 5:45Speaker 3: just naturally helps me now.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Is there a favorite place that you lived when you
- 5:48Speaker 1: were growing up?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah, probably Japan, Japan, was was really cool. I remember
- 5:54Speaker 3: a decent amount of it.
- 5:56Speaker 1: How many years were you there for?
- 5:57Speaker 2: Five? Six? Yeah? Cool?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was, I said, I was younger, so
- 6:03Speaker 3: I don't remember like everything, but I just remember it was.
- 6:07Speaker 2: It was so fun, such such a good time.
- 6:10Speaker 1: What do you miss most about Japan?
- 6:12Speaker 3: Probably I would say just the sporting events. Yeah, like
- 6:16Speaker 3: for soccer we would go and you know, we play
- 6:20Speaker 3: on our American basis, but then a lot of like
- 6:23Speaker 3: the Japanese teams will come on base and we'll have
- 6:25Speaker 3: like tournaments and stuff like that, and they were really good.
- 6:28Speaker 3: But I think it was it was dope to experience that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Do you want to plan trip back to Japan at
- 6:32Speaker 1: some point in your life?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:34Speaker 3: Me and wife you are thinking about. We try and
- 6:35Speaker 3: do a trip every year. I think we're gonna do
- 6:38Speaker 3: Austria next because her family's there. But Japan was supposed
- 6:43Speaker 3: to be this offseason and I don't know why we
- 6:45Speaker 3: kind of put that one on the home, but I
- 6:47Speaker 3: think that'll be at next next off season thing.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, going back to your role in this offense. Since
- 6:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, you lead the NFL with a seventy
- 6:55Speaker 1: nine percent catch rate. What training has allowed you to
- 6:59Speaker 1: have that type of level.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I do well, I haven't done it as late, but
- 7:05Speaker 3: I started probably a couple of years ago, doing like
- 7:07Speaker 3: hundred catches a day with Sailor. With my wife, she
- 7:10Speaker 3: would just throw me the ball, and I think that
- 7:12Speaker 3: kind of that helped a lot. I do a lot
- 7:14Speaker 3: of work with our one of our coaches, DJ before
- 7:19Speaker 3: after practice.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I think it's just like the.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Consistency of getting out there and doing the reps and
- 7:25Speaker 3: the repetition of it all and you know, catching you
- 7:28Speaker 3: know in different ways, different angles and all that stuff.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And like I said, repping that stuff over and over
- 7:33Speaker 3: and over again. I definitely think that's helped me.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Sailor is your quarterback house your arm?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Oh it was that at first, but then she's gotten
- 7:42Speaker 3: a lot better. She's got a lot better. Yeah, so
- 7:44Speaker 3: she's she's doing better now. I mean now she's thirty
- 7:46Speaker 3: one weeks pregnant, so she's we've kind of put that
- 7:48Speaker 3: on hold a little bits of sason, yeah right right,
- 7:51Speaker 3: But before she was, she was slinging around for sure.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Repetition is something that is so simple, you can do
- 7:58Speaker 1: it anywhere. Why has had such a big factor on
- 8:01Speaker 1: your play in game.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I just think the more you just just do things,
- 8:06Speaker 3: Like I think it's hard to you know, the day
- 8:09Speaker 3: of whether it's a game day or you know, whatever
- 8:11Speaker 3: it is, and you try something that maybe you haven't
- 8:13Speaker 3: done before, or think of something in the moment, like
- 8:17Speaker 3: odds are probably against you in that matter. And I
- 8:20Speaker 3: think the repetition of everything, like seeing the same things
- 8:23Speaker 3: over and over and over again, doing the same things
- 8:25Speaker 3: over and over and over again kind of like puts
- 8:28Speaker 3: that image in your head to be ready for whatever
- 8:31Speaker 3: when that moment comes. So, of course it's repetition, but
- 8:34Speaker 3: it's how you do it as well. Yeah, So I
- 8:36Speaker 3: think that's definitely something that I've tried to focus on
- 8:39Speaker 3: over the past couple of years.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You have to be mentally strong, though, to catch a
- 8:42Speaker 1: hundred passes a day, that's something that it's easy to be, Like,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I don't feel like doing this today. What has allowed
- 8:48Speaker 1: you to be so mentally strong?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it hasn't been just on you know,
- 8:53Speaker 2: an upward angle for me. You know.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Of course, like you said, there's days where you're just
- 8:57Speaker 3: laying down and it's tough.
- 8:59Speaker 2: You know, and I'm not perfect.
- 9:01Speaker 3: There's days where, yeah, it's like, you know, I'm not
- 9:03Speaker 3: gonna do it today, but I think when you think
- 9:05Speaker 3: of your end goal and for me, like to be
- 9:09Speaker 3: ready to roll on game day, I have to make
- 9:12Speaker 3: sure I cover every single angle throughout the week. So
- 9:14Speaker 3: it's you know, all those catches. If I, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 3: do one less catch than normal, like maybe I don't
- 9:19Speaker 3: feel as prepared come game day, you know, so I
- 9:21Speaker 3: think of how I want to perform on game day
- 9:24Speaker 3: and that kind of you know, light.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Sapphire speaking of being ready for game day, I hear
- 9:30Speaker 1: your show tunes guy, when it comes to what you
- 9:32Speaker 1: have to listen.
- 9:33Speaker 3: To, Yeah, a whole bunch of stuff.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It's it's funny.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I think it's a there's not much rap music on it,
- 9:45Speaker 3: and that usually blows people's minds. But yeah, I've had
- 9:49Speaker 3: I'm a big fan of Wicked, so.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You're defying gravity.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Ye, yeah, that's that's my favorite. Actually.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Uh And then me and my wife watched I don't
- 9:59Speaker 3: know if it's like the Live Lion King, if that's
- 10:01Speaker 3: the car whatever, but yeah, the latest Lion King, Lion
- 10:04Speaker 3: King or whatever. And there's a song on there. I
- 10:07Speaker 3: got that on on there? What else is on there?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Oh? Matilda there's a.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Couple of songs on there that I got on my playlist,
- 10:16Speaker 3: and then a lot of house music as well, and
- 10:18Speaker 3: then maybe three to four five rap songs.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, listening to show tunes? How does that get you
- 10:27Speaker 1: into the right mindset?
- 10:31Speaker 3: Honestly, I think it's there's a I believe there's a
- 10:35Speaker 3: thing as like being like almost too like locked in,
- 10:39Speaker 3: you know, Like for me, I like to just feel
- 10:42Speaker 3: like free, I'm having fun, like I'm not, you know,
- 10:45Speaker 3: as crazy as it sounds like taking it too serious,
- 10:47Speaker 3: you know, like and I think in those moments where
- 10:50Speaker 3: you know, I really start to you know, think too much,
- 10:53Speaker 3: you know, my heart gets going and you know, I'm
- 10:55Speaker 3: a little jittery, and I think that type of music
- 10:58Speaker 3: just kind of keeps me calm and keeps me at
- 11:00Speaker 3: so and I just think of all the funny moments
- 11:03Speaker 3: like Wicked would have never happened, if you know. Me
- 11:06Speaker 3: and my wife went to New York City and she
- 11:07Speaker 3: was like, let's go watch Wicked on Broadway and I
- 11:10Speaker 3: was like no, and then she was like, come on,
- 11:12Speaker 3: like let's go. And I was totally against it, and
- 11:15Speaker 3: then went and I ended up I was locked in
- 11:17Speaker 3: the whole time, and she was like, I actually ended
- 11:20Speaker 3: up enjoying it. And I think the reason for having
- 11:23Speaker 3: those tunes on my playlist, like there's a story to
- 11:26Speaker 3: it as well that kind of unlocks a memory that
- 11:28Speaker 3: makes me just relax in the moment.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It's music like that that brings you back to a
- 11:32Speaker 1: memory and reminds you that you're playing a kid's game
- 11:35Speaker 1: and it should be a lot of fun out there.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I think that's the biggest thing is always remembering like
- 11:40Speaker 3: this is a game that you know, most of us
- 11:42Speaker 3: grew up playing and loved to play. And I remember
- 11:45Speaker 3: backyard football as kids with your friends and you know,
- 11:48Speaker 3: my siblings and how fun it was, and just reminding
- 11:51Speaker 3: myself that no tab fun out there.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Who's your favorite character in Wicked?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Oh God, I'm blanking here.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Probably the Witch? Which yeah, uh is that Elfie? Yeah? Probably? Yeah? Yeah?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Nice.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I mean I just think it's Uh, did.
- 12:12Speaker 1: You watch the movie when it came out?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:13Speaker 3: Watched the movie, and then your thoughts really good. I
- 12:17Speaker 3: didn't realize when it ended that they were gonna come
- 12:19Speaker 3: out with a second one, because obviously when you watch it,
- 12:22Speaker 3: when you watch it on Broadway, they have like different
- 12:24Speaker 3: parts and they take breaks and stuff. So when it ended,
- 12:26Speaker 3: I was like, well, where's the next part? And then
- 12:28Speaker 3: almost like they're coming out. I think it's the next
- 12:30Speaker 3: next month, they're coming out with it, so, uh, we're
- 12:33Speaker 3: ready for that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: The wide Receiver room is full personalities, Clill. You have
- 12:37Speaker 1: Kean Coleman who doesn't stop talking. You have Josh Palmer
- 12:39Speaker 1: who's a little bit quiet. Yeah, what are the personalities
- 12:43Speaker 1: in that room?
- 12:45Speaker 3: It's it's funny. I think it's it's such a fun environment.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Like you said, we just have a whole bunch of
- 12:50Speaker 3: different personalities that mess so well together.
- 12:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Curtis, you know, loves to joke around and have fun.
- 12:56Speaker 3: H Palmer's a little quiet, but he'll also get it
- 12:59Speaker 3: on the conversation too.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 13:01Speaker 3: You have e who's a very chill soul, like an
- 13:05Speaker 3: old soul. And then obviously Gabe probably one of the
- 13:10Speaker 3: funniest human beings I've ever been in my life, which
- 13:13Speaker 3: just kind of brings that like just a laughter to
- 13:15Speaker 3: the room. Steve very chill but also like a big
- 13:21Speaker 3: conspiracy guy, you know. Like so it's just like you
- 13:24Speaker 3: have all these different personalities that like each personality just
- 13:28Speaker 3: brings a different element to the room in regards to
- 13:30Speaker 3: just how everybody reveals life and none of us are
- 13:33Speaker 3: you know, this is the right way and that's the
- 13:35Speaker 3: right way. And I think that's why we all mess together.
- 13:36Speaker 1: So well, where do you fit in.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Laughing the whole time? Because I just it's funny, man,
- 13:43Speaker 3: The guys are are hilarious. And also I think we
- 13:47Speaker 3: the conspiracy stuff. I'm not big into. That's usually a
- 13:50Speaker 3: main topic. That's you know, I'm just like mind blown
- 13:53Speaker 3: by by it all. So yeah, most of the time
- 13:57Speaker 3: I'm sitting back there, they're laughing, and uh that's probably
- 14:01Speaker 3: you know, seventy eighty percent of the time.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Who's cracking the most jokes Gabe for sure. Gabe.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he's he loves to joke around. It's funny though.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's like everybody loves to, you know, have that laughter
- 14:12Speaker 3: in the mess around, but also knows you know, when
- 14:16Speaker 3: to lock in. You know, it's all right, cool, we
- 14:17Speaker 3: got to get through this and saw today, and you know,
- 14:19Speaker 3: everybody locks in. And then once we're through and done
- 14:22Speaker 3: that everybody has a full understanding of that, then it's
- 14:25Speaker 3: like boom, right now we can you know, have fun
- 14:27Speaker 3: with it, you know, and stuff like that. So there's
- 14:28Speaker 3: a good balance in there.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Who locks in the quickest?
- 14:32Speaker 3: Uh be messed up if I said myself so.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You could, I mean, I thought about you.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I'm probably gonna say, uh, Palmer.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Palmer lacks in the quickest. Who's leading the huddle? Who's
- 14:48Speaker 1: the guy firing up the wide receiver?
- 14:51Speaker 3: We do a little before the game, we have a
- 14:52Speaker 3: little huddle and I usually just say a little little spiel,
- 14:55Speaker 3: and then throughout the weekend practice lets go, Yeah, we
- 14:58Speaker 3: kind of mixed up throughout the week though.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You know, we huddle up before we do.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Routes on earth the quarterbacks, and that's really open to
- 15:06Speaker 3: anybody saying stuff. I'll usually say something, and after practice
- 15:08Speaker 3: we huddle up again, and that's usually I like to
- 15:12Speaker 3: base it off of, you know, who really bought out
- 15:14Speaker 3: that day in practice, so everybody kind of gets a
- 15:16Speaker 3: piece of that.
- 15:17Speaker 1: This offseason, you talked about taking over a bigger leadership
- 15:20Speaker 1: role because you're one of the guys who's been in
- 15:23Speaker 1: that room for the longest. How has that come along
- 15:25Speaker 1: for you.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I think it's going well. I think I've I've been
- 15:28Speaker 3: trying to be a bit more vocal. A lot of
- 15:31Speaker 3: times I can kind of just you know, be you know,
- 15:33Speaker 3: tunnel vision and trying to you know, do what I
- 15:35Speaker 3: have to do to get myself ready. But I think
- 15:37Speaker 3: a big step in that is becoming more vocal and
- 15:41Speaker 3: you know, speaking up and you know, like we're just
- 15:43Speaker 3: talking about getting the guys fired up. So I've been
- 15:45Speaker 3: trying trying my best to you know, form what that
- 15:48Speaker 3: looks like, and so far, I think we're heading in
- 15:51Speaker 3: the right direction.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Did you look up to anybody when it came to
- 15:53Speaker 1: leadership and being more vocal, whether it be on this
- 15:56Speaker 1: team or outside of the bills.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a whole bunch of guys. I mean that
- 16:00Speaker 3: list for me goes on and on. You have you
- 16:02Speaker 3: have d Doc who's just like just a huge personality
- 16:05Speaker 3: and and and it's really you know, focused on getting
- 16:08Speaker 3: a job done every single day. You have Josh, who
- 16:11Speaker 3: is in my is probably the best leader I've ever
- 16:13Speaker 3: been around. You know, I've always said if if he
- 16:16Speaker 3: didn't give me an explanation for anything and said let's
- 16:19Speaker 3: go to war, I'd be no questions, as you know,
- 16:21Speaker 3: So yeah, that's like to me as as as good
- 16:25Speaker 3: as it gets, as far as leadership, and then even
- 16:28Speaker 3: Gabe Davis, I think just the way he handles business,
- 16:30Speaker 3: Like we're just talking about, He's he's able to have
- 16:33Speaker 3: fun but also knows when it's time to, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 3: lock in and and focus on what we got to
- 16:38Speaker 3: get done. And I think that balance, the balance that
- 16:40Speaker 3: he's able to have within that has taught me a
- 16:43Speaker 3: lot as well. And you know, even Steph his competitiveness
- 16:47Speaker 3: and just how he handles his business. You know, I
- 16:51Speaker 3: look up to him as well. So, like I said,
- 16:53Speaker 3: that list goes on and on and on.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You spoke about your quarterback, Josh Allen, one of the
- 16:57Speaker 1: best arms in the NFL, whether it skill set wise
- 17:01Speaker 1: or off the field. What are you most in awe of?
- 17:05Speaker 3: I think just just his ability to just have fun
- 17:08Speaker 3: every single day, like when you're you're in the MVP
- 17:11Speaker 3: of the league and in my is the best, the
- 17:13Speaker 3: best player in the league. I think the way he
- 17:17Speaker 3: comes in here with a smile on his face, I
- 17:20Speaker 3: think it's the coolest thing ever.
- 17:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Like like I said, I feel like a lot of
- 17:23Speaker 3: times you can get caught up and just trying to
- 17:26Speaker 3: you know, be so like you know, on it every
- 17:29Speaker 3: single time, and when your leader comes in and has
- 17:32Speaker 3: understands that, yes, we're going to get the job done,
- 17:35Speaker 3: but also reminds us, you know, to smile and have fun.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I think it's the coolest thing ever. So yeah, just
- 17:42Speaker 3: his ability to you know, keep us locked in when
- 17:45Speaker 3: we need to be, but also having fun.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Speaking of having fun, our social media team likes to
- 17:50Speaker 1: have fun with you, specifically care There's videos that go
- 17:54Speaker 1: out and they do you dirty and some of them,
- 17:58Speaker 1: this is your floor to say whatever you want to
- 18:01Speaker 1: say about that, you know.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I honestly feel like I kind of it's kind of
- 18:06Speaker 3: my fault a little bit. I would come into your guys'
- 18:09Speaker 3: office over there and say, are we working today or what?
- 18:11Speaker 3: And I feel like maybe that could have something to
- 18:14Speaker 3: do with it. But also I'm all and I think
- 18:18Speaker 3: it's all funny. Like a lot of times, like people
- 18:20Speaker 3: are like do they really do that? And I think
- 18:23Speaker 3: it's jokes. I mean, I'm somebody that's very comfortable who
- 18:26Speaker 3: I am, and I think it's the funniest thing ever
- 18:27Speaker 3: to see them having fun with it. And I never
- 18:30Speaker 3: take anything really too serious, so it's it's cool. I
- 18:34Speaker 3: deal with it. It's funny. I don't have any issues,
- 18:37Speaker 3: you know, so, Yeah, I.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Think my favorite one was the Kalila Shakira.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the main that was I think that
- 18:44Speaker 3: was the one that started it, and that was I
- 18:47Speaker 3: got the most crap for.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That, you guys coming up to you long.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, again, I thought it was hilarious. But what
- 18:59Speaker 3: I thought when I didn't like about it was the
- 19:01Speaker 3: fact that it was like, you know, when you post the.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Real you can like pick though, and they chose that.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and so of course and you're scrolling early, what
- 19:07Speaker 3: is that? I'm like, you could have left that one
- 19:09Speaker 3: out just it being in the video is fine, but yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 3: it's all funny games.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Do you have any ideas for them for future videos
- 19:17Speaker 1: how you would like to be portrayed in a different way?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe one day instead of put me in a dress,
- 19:22Speaker 3: like they can make me look like the whole car
- 19:25Speaker 3: like yeah, like come on, like, all right, cool, you
- 19:27Speaker 3: did that and I do this for me.
- 19:29Speaker 1: It's literally the least you could ask.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll see. Though they're super creative.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I honestly have no idea how they do it every
- 19:38Speaker 3: single days.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It is funny. They cook up some hilarious stuff. Khalil,
- 19:44Speaker 1: You have two pups, Penny and Missy. What can a
- 19:48Speaker 1: dog do that nobody else can?
- 19:52Speaker 3: The ability to just be happy every single day, every
- 19:57Speaker 3: single second, no matter if it's raining outside, no matter what.
- 20:02Speaker 3: You know, I feel like a lot of times, you know, humans,
- 20:05Speaker 3: we can be affected by the weather or whatever. It is,
- 20:07Speaker 3: like dogs don't care, Like they don't care. Whenever I
- 20:09Speaker 3: walk into the house every single day, I'm greeted the
- 20:12Speaker 3: same exact way. They're running, barking, jumping, wagging their tails.
- 20:16Speaker 3: First thing, I'm woking up every single morning by both
- 20:19Speaker 3: of them almost jumping on me. It's almost like I
- 20:23Speaker 3: don't really need an alarm clock and they're just happy.
- 20:26Speaker 3: They're happy to see me every single day. And I
- 20:28Speaker 3: think it's the best thing ever. So not to say
- 20:32Speaker 3: some people can't do that, but I think dogs just
- 20:34Speaker 3: have that ability to just brighten up your day no
- 20:36Speaker 3: matter what.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Since you have two, is one like your dog, one
- 20:41Speaker 1: is Sailor's dogs is one like each person.
- 20:44Speaker 3: More Yeah, I think Penny is definitely more connected to me,
- 20:50Speaker 3: and then miss he's definitely more connected to Sailor, Which
- 20:53Speaker 3: is funny because I got Penny for sailor my rookiear
- 20:56Speaker 3: going into training camp because I was gonna be away,
- 20:59Speaker 3: here's low buddy, And then she ended up whenever I
- 21:02Speaker 3: would leave the house, she would sit at the door
- 21:04Speaker 3: and just cry. And then so yeah, that became a
- 21:07Speaker 3: little buddy and she's great.
- 21:09Speaker 1: You've held a bunch of pet adoptions. Every year you
- 21:12Speaker 1: have a big event. What inspired you to do something
- 21:15Speaker 1: like that?
- 21:16Speaker 2: Missy?
- 21:16Speaker 3: When we got Missy from an adoption event randomly on
- 21:20Speaker 3: a random Saturday, we went because we saw a video
- 21:23Speaker 3: of Brandon Bean talking about this adoption event and we
- 21:27Speaker 3: were just like looked at a sailor and I was like,
- 21:30Speaker 3: why not, Like let's just go stop by. Thing that
- 21:34Speaker 3: I've learned now about going to adoption events and hosting
- 21:37Speaker 3: them as well, is you have to put into your
- 21:39Speaker 3: brain and say it to yourself a thousand times that
- 21:41Speaker 3: you're not going to get a dog if you go
- 21:43Speaker 3: in with the slightest bit of like maybe you're gunna
- 21:46Speaker 3: leave with a dog. So that day we didn't really
- 21:49Speaker 3: think anything of it. Walked in and Missy's just kind
- 21:52Speaker 3: of laying down in the corner and I picked her
- 21:55Speaker 3: up like three four times and kept putting her back
- 21:57Speaker 3: down and then looked at Sailor and was like.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Would you be mad?
- 22:00Speaker 3: And She's like, I wouldn't be mad, but you know,
- 22:02Speaker 3: we don't need another dog. Ended up leaving keeping Center
- 22:06Speaker 3: with her, like literally put her in the car there
- 22:08Speaker 3: and left, and man, she's been the biggest, one of
- 22:11Speaker 3: the biggest blessings ever. Like we Sailor only grew up
- 22:14Speaker 3: of golden retrievers. I had a boxer when I was young, young,
- 22:18Speaker 3: and we've never the idea of rescuing, just we just
- 22:21Speaker 3: never really thought about it. And how sweet that dog is.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's almost like she's just like just grateful, you know,
- 22:28Speaker 3: and like going to these events to the dogs, like
- 22:32Speaker 3: once you start petting them, like they're just like the
- 22:34Speaker 3: smile on.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Their faces and how happy they are. They just want
- 22:38Speaker 2: to be loved, you know.
- 22:38Speaker 3: So I think in doing and seeing how Missy has,
- 22:41Speaker 3: you know, just lit up our household, we just want
- 22:44Speaker 3: to create as many opportunities for families to have that
- 22:46Speaker 3: as well.
- 22:47Speaker 1: In a perfect world, how many dogs would you have?
- 22:50Speaker 2: Me?
- 22:51Speaker 3: Personally, I probably I picture this right, I picture in
- 22:55Speaker 3: ten years. I picture opening up my slide indoor and
- 22:59Speaker 3: I just have a couplecres fenced in and there's like
- 23:02Speaker 3: at least ten to fifteen dogs.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Just running around.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I love it.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Now when Sailor hears this, she's gonna say heck no,
- 23:09Speaker 3: and doesn't like that idea. But it's just like a
- 23:12Speaker 3: weird image I've had in my head.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I love that dogs also have fun personalities. What are
- 23:18Speaker 1: the weirdest things that your dogs do?
- 23:21Speaker 3: Missy does this little scrunch face and it's usually one
- 23:26Speaker 3: before she has.
- 23:27Speaker 2: To get in the bath.
- 23:28Speaker 3: She hates the bathtub, so she'll go hide under my
- 23:31Speaker 3: clothes and if you find her, she's like scrunching her nose,
- 23:34Speaker 3: ears peered back up, feel back. And then also when
- 23:38Speaker 3: she's when she does something she's not supposed to do,
- 23:40Speaker 3: so like she'll go and chewoba sock and then she'll
- 23:43Speaker 3: come down and like tell on herself. Like she'll come
- 23:45Speaker 3: downstairs and she goes to the ground and she's like
- 23:47Speaker 3: wagging her tail, and I just think it's like a
- 23:49Speaker 3: weird scrunch face she does. She also I think she
- 23:52Speaker 3: tries to like talk, like she makes the weirdest sounds.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Ever when she's what weird does she come closest to I.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Don't know, but I I would assume it's probably not
- 24:00Speaker 3: a good word because it's usually when Penny is playing
- 24:02Speaker 3: with one of the toys and she wants the toy
- 24:04Speaker 3: and she'll just like start screaming at her.
- 24:06Speaker 2: It's not a bark, it's literally like a scream.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 24:09Speaker 2: So that's that's definitely probably the weirdest thing.
- 24:13Speaker 1: You have a baby on the way. What's the best
- 24:16Speaker 1: advice you've gotten so far from teammates, from friends?
- 24:20Speaker 2: Get your sleep? Now? I've heard a lot. I heard
- 24:22Speaker 2: a lot of.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And also it's you know, I think the best thing
- 24:27Speaker 3: is everybody is like not overbearing with advice as well,
- 24:32Speaker 3: Like everyone's like everybody's like journey is so different. You
- 24:36Speaker 3: can sit here and read all the books you want,
- 24:37Speaker 3: but everybody's journey is different.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Are you reading the books? No?
- 24:41Speaker 1: No, We're going to do it live.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I you know, I do read. I have started reading.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But as far as reading books about parenting, I'm just
- 24:52Speaker 3: excited to just I think as we get closer, maybe
- 24:55Speaker 3: out I'll look at a few things. And Sailor has
- 24:57Speaker 3: me on this app with her that kind of tip
- 25:00Speaker 3: updates you and gives you tips and all that kind
- 25:02Speaker 3: of stuff. But Yeah, Like I said, I feel everybody's
- 25:04Speaker 3: journey is different, so I would say that's probably the
- 25:06Speaker 3: best advice I get is is it's the biggest blessing ever,
- 25:10Speaker 3: So just take it all in.
- 25:11Speaker 1: We're so excited for you and Sailor. I can't wait
- 25:13Speaker 1: to meet her.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Yeah, she'll be around here a
- 25:15Speaker 2: lot probably. I love that.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Thanks cool, appreciate the time.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Of course, Thanks for having me again.
