- 0:43Welcome back to. I'm so if upon penknife the
- 0:46Doctor Who commentary podcast, I'm Dave, am I looking like a
- 0:53well, an eyeball really? And I'm a guy on my real self is
- 0:56in the other room on a crane thing and I'm of the wonderful
- 1:01tool for tell you doing Joe, hello.
- 1:04I am a Sinister gang of version of Joe Ford.
- 1:07Who now no longer enjoys Doctor Who asshole?
- 1:12It'll change your mind after watching this episode.
- 1:16So make sure I, well sighs, this is our watch this at 4 a.m. this
- 1:21morning. Alright, this story and I went
- 1:23to work in a very bad mood, I guess that's dedication.
- 1:27Watching Doctor Who at 40m film? Wow, what's up?
- 1:30You know, I've already had a pretty painful situation.
- 1:32I thought I'll put on the rebel flesh and all those people that
- 1:36thinks the mood I'm in there. Okay.
- 1:38Now I think people might already know Via Converse on Twitter
- 1:43that you're not averse to this story.
- 1:48No, I know a lot people here, but hello.
- 1:53I think it's all right. I don't think it's absolutely
- 1:55wonderful. Barclay awake.
- 1:57It's only the first episode especially I just thought
- 2:00because the last couple that we've done, we've both be on the
- 2:04same wavelength. We both sort of be president and
- 2:07I thought just to really be nasty.
- 2:11I thought I'd When I knew that you hate, it's your therapist
- 2:14and I are quite late. I will.
- 2:16I went back into this, you know, I went in with no expectations I
- 2:19thought, you know what? I've only I'm dived into the
- 2:21mafia era for a while. Maybe I'll dive into the Matt
- 2:24Smith's time and this will be the best thing I've ever seen.
- 2:26You know, with new eyes. I last that was not the case.
- 2:31No, I'll put my cards on the table.
- 2:35This is one of my least favorite new series epic a couple of
- 2:40episodes. In my least favorite new series
- 2:43season with my least favorite new series dogs are, and my
- 2:48least favorite new series companion.
- 2:51Honestly, you would prefer main table stood to the story.
- 2:55Oh yeah. No.
- 2:56Terrorist has got some worse at other night.
- 2:59Terrors, it's got some interesting Direction.
- 3:01I think, I like I think the dollies are the dollies are
- 3:03genuinely scary. I like it very comical CGI.
- 3:07You're going to see in this. Yeah, I agree with that but I
- 3:10think it's smart guy is smart because it's functional but not
- 3:17enough of me and I know you're not finding much math.
- 3:21No. That's and to be fair.
- 3:22That's where I'm because I think you liking this That puts you on
- 3:26the periphery, may not like it. Matt Smith puts me on the
- 3:29periphery because a lot of people.
- 3:31Yeah. Oh, people must have.
- 3:33So we adopted for me, I mean, it does.
- 3:37Most of the time, what seems to happen is obviously, when I need
- 3:40doctor, comes along, and set the first season that, you know, and
- 3:44the role, they're trying things, I second season, they've sort of
- 3:48the, and the production team, right?
- 3:49We know. No, where were we?
- 3:51No, where were going, let's grab them, bigger, and better things
- 3:53to do. And in the first season.
- 3:55Neon that they've absolutely like they're just at the top in
- 3:58my tenant, for example, or climb, wasn't it?
- 4:03Yeah, yeah, but you can see, he's well-seasoned 40s, more
- 4:11experimental season six, he's on his game.
- 4:14Apparently the same Caputo Capaldi Israel.
- 4:17Yeah, but with Matt Smith, he seems to be the only one where
- 4:22That doesn't happen. I think he absolutely Neil's it
- 4:26as soon as he be as soon as he starts as a doctor, he's got it.
- 4:30But what happens is he progressively gets washed, in my
- 4:32opinion, as he goes on because it's almost like the Horman on
- 4:35the wrong friends. I believe that the act of
- 4:38production or both but that's fine.
- 4:39We even arms and my own eyes, the right?
- 4:41And I think, I think they were like, okay, there's this quote,
- 4:44there's a quirk. Let's enjoy these things because
- 4:47this is clearly his character when actually given Series 5.
- 4:50I think it's The sort of old man in a young man's body that he
- 4:57nailed and the sort of dish reveled trampy look, he nailed
- 5:02like trout and come series. Seventies tailored.
- 5:05He's wearing like a story. I've already don't fit even
- 5:09things like that. As you see so fat, he's text.
- 5:11He's got a boarding companion. My from, it's just it just, I
- 5:16don't like season 7 be as you as, you know, probably the worst
- 5:19of all the listeners or well, no, I just don't like her.
- 5:22Season. That was the one time where I've
- 5:26never abandon Doctor Who I know. A lot of people have been
- 5:28morning about Jordi zero. But that was this, the year for
- 5:31me? Where if there was a point where
- 5:33I thought, oh my God, I don't know if I can continue this.
- 5:35It was the middle of 7B and I think it was done.
- 5:37It is centered at all. This, that we talked before
- 5:40being started. Didn't you just said something
- 5:44there that actually could probably describe why?
- 5:48I just like this so much, you mentioned, Chris correra and
- 5:51even the Weakest, Jodie, Whittaker episode.
- 5:54Yeah, is full of Hope and light, likable, characters and fun.
- 6:02Mom, this is this is dreary stuff and it's kinda not my
- 6:08biggest issue with 7B of the story mode you this story.
- 6:11Oh no, no, no ugly. This is ugly to look at.
- 6:16I think morally, it's very ugly. I think the characterization is
- 6:20really ugly in. I just think it's really
- 6:23unpleasant experience. Well, I said 7B was an
- 6:27impressive experience. This is about what halfway
- 6:29through Smith's run. mmm, I thought when I watched it back,
- 6:34you you're going to probably Taunted us tonight, but actually
- 6:39thought it was pretty good. And that's what should we go in?
- 6:43Let's go in, and let's, let's start picking this thing apart
- 6:47and see her because you never know, your argument would be so
- 6:51compelling that. I'll come out with a renewed
- 6:54appreciation of the thing. Okay, let's go for it.
- 6:58You called me an unfair Advantage.
- 7:00There's something very rare for me on hand.
- 7:02Starts to be watching something. I don't like you sharpen.
- 7:05Find I can find love in anything.
- 7:07Well, I'm open to do laser dragon and Vicki, see things
- 7:12that maybe didn't see or something.
- 7:14The magic is done with the dominators for me.
- 7:17I just love it. Have you, have you seen that
- 7:21fellow in The Dominoes fall? Right in episode 1?
- 7:23I think his name is bail on Babylon. 5, yeah, socks goes,
- 7:29you know, we're from another planet.
- 7:31You know? And belong goes.
- 7:32Oh, really? How interesting I'll write that
- 7:34down in my notebook, but that's all Oh God, I think is the
- 7:38comedy classic now. The Dominic is yeah, I watched
- 7:42it last year and it's, yeah, it's always got something and
- 7:49apart from the quarks and just part of me thinks that the the
- 7:54Dolphins, but just so boring that they should have bit sorry,
- 7:57friends about this. Should have been bombed by Tom,
- 8:00any as well that fellow you don't know the, Dawson's the
- 8:05Dominator walks in. He's like, we're here to invade.
- 8:08You guys really have you got an appointment?
- 8:10Let's talk about the dominators and say it.
- 8:15No. Because I think this is about
- 8:16restoring so we'll just crazy. But okay.
- 8:25Okay, and five, four, three, two, one.
- 8:30Let's go. Also quite a nice CGI.
- 8:33See, I'll give you that as we approach the castle.
- 8:36Yeah, it's see. That's it.
- 8:38I'm glad we're watching this in November, because this, it's
- 8:42should have been on at Halloween time.
- 8:43That's this is a spooky Dr. Who that's.
- 8:45That's, and that's part of the castle weather, is it.
- 8:52Yeah, I will. I've been one of the D key finds
- 8:56that went cup of coffee. Someone went to soil every
- 8:58single bet that and went oh that's the venerable Flick.
- 9:02I'll tell you what. Dave is a bloody dreary location
- 9:04for a doctor who Story? I mean there's so much a visual
- 9:09interest though, is that? It's a lot of dark corridors.
- 9:12Yeah, there's no men in bright colored ones, they'll give you
- 9:15that. And so the stories written by
- 9:17Matthew Graham. Yes, I'll see her Fame.
- 9:21I'll feed her famous. We were all the same when we
- 9:24found out. He was coming back and they do a
- 9:25two-parter. I think we were all shocked.
- 9:27What's that was not me. I rather like that.
- 9:30Have thank you very much. I love her gaps.
- 9:34Going through the door and I love the council man.
- 9:39It's got it, it's not as bad as people make out, but I don't
- 9:42think it was anything special, but him.
- 9:45So we've got these are what we found out to be called, going on
- 9:49us. Hmm.
- 9:50Wets because their mailing us, I said, yeah.
- 9:54Wait wait, wait, they're morning acid, why the mining asked is
- 9:58well this was one of the things that I found out because
- 10:03apparently there was a quite a bit kind of Firsts that.
- 10:05I mean in general, by the way what about Smurfs sake us would
- 10:08suffer because the cops so much for oh I mean I was watching
- 10:13God. What one was a body?
- 10:16And the poetry and the jocks huge trunk.
- 10:19So that well, that's from Steven berkoff weren't playing ball.
- 10:23Was he at the end? Yeah, there is well, yeah, that
- 10:26was a solid piece of that but in, but yeah, and I've cut bit
- 10:30of seen, if we think that there are maintaining it for the Army.
- 10:35Yep. And I'll know.
- 10:36I've now I kind of figured that but they were doing it for the
- 10:38military. Yeah, why?
- 10:44I don't find out that. Okay.
- 10:48Okay, okay well let's go with it.
- 10:49They're mining acid for the military I'm assuming for
- 10:52weapons. Maybe it's let's go with
- 10:54chemical weapons or something or be something like Caillou's the
- 10:58same as the code AS exhibit a for how terrible the direction.
- 11:02Isn't this story because the fella he fell into the acid,
- 11:06right? Yeah.
- 11:07And she pushed him in, I don't care what they say.
- 11:09She gives him a little shove. Well, and then so the twist is
- 11:15supposed to be our and then he walks through the door and it's
- 11:17the same guy. Yeah.
- 11:19Yeah. Don't have a good.
- 11:20Look at the guy's face that goes in the acid properly.
- 11:23So you can't actually tell he's the it again.
- 11:27I think I sign off his face to know it was him.
- 11:30I was sort of squint and go. Whoa, who's this?
- 11:31Then I think there is definitely some leeway.
- 11:41If the Gap, the ganger premise and the doppelganger /.
- 11:44Yes. I do know what they do with it,
- 11:46but I think it is a good premise.
- 11:48Yeah. They that the doppelganger
- 11:50stories are always, always screwed.
- 11:53I mean the one thing I find out which was quite in fact probably
- 11:58better to talk about that in the second episode in a bit.
- 12:04Yeah as I say there's quite a lot, shocked out of us like the
- 12:07character motivations were some of the gang on to changes in the
- 12:10start of the second episode. World and it's because the cock
- 12:12back but so but I'll talk about him but I got but that's, I
- 12:16really fly. Does it because what all we can
- 12:19gauge this on is what rather than what was taken out in it?
- 12:23Yeah, but I think it would have made it more.
- 12:27Maybe they made it make more sense.
- 12:29I've heard people make the argument that, you know, that
- 12:33that scene, that was recorded after Amy and Rory left all
- 12:37about their life afterwards. I think of that saying all that,
- 12:40tied it all up, brilliantly. Look I don't care, it, won in
- 12:43the episode count on, you know, it wasn't part of the team.
- 12:48I do think that with the new series it's different from the
- 12:50old days. It seems that the cock stuff
- 12:51out, that doesn't really add anything, but most cases when
- 12:54the new series lead that they do Co, but swear, like, Couldn't
- 12:59shift kit line. Can I, can I bring in exhibit B?
- 13:04Now as to why I don't like this story, is this the sort of storm
- 13:08CGI, you're going to comment on you now that all actually, I
- 13:10think that's Robin. I'm not ever gonna have a go
- 13:13about what I'm gonna do about the effects, just because of
- 13:16those Dreadful CGI ganger effects in episode 2.
- 13:20But they generally speaking doctor who looks better than
- 13:23he's ever looked before. And I'm not going to criticize
- 13:25it for the CGI know. It's the dr.
- 13:28Amy and Rory, right? That's how you what they might.
- 13:31We play in a bit, a Dusty Springfield, or whatever it is
- 13:34in this hole is here, but they ain't having any fun anymore in
- 13:38series 5. I felt as if they're having a
- 13:40bit of fun together in the Tardis, they're so serious in
- 13:44this all the target, there's not an adjustment.
- 13:48Yeah, but they're just be on a pirate ship.
- 13:50They've just been oil. It just seen the Tardis as a
- 13:53woman. You know personified it may be
- 13:56through a logical come on. What can I use that as Exhibit C
- 14:00as to what Or scenes because we've just had the curse of the
- 14:08black spot, right? Yeah.
- 14:10And we've had, don't why wife? And now we've got this to par.
- 14:16Yeah. Well, they're all bloody dark
- 14:18and they Yes, pretty and nice to look at anymore.
- 14:22They're all a bit dark and shadowy and gloomy, and
- 14:25depressing, but don't who's, all right.
- 14:28You can't have it all the time where you get, I mean if it kept
- 14:31up like that, then I totally agree.
- 14:32You would be good, maybe a couple episodes, some I can
- 14:35forgive that. So such this Renfield.
- 14:40Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 14:40I love it. It's the first ever and
- 14:42synthesis Wingfield ultraportable.
- 14:46Every take my favorite song. Do one thing to say to you is
- 14:50you don't have to say, you love me.
- 14:54Just like your favorite Dusty Springfield song in fabulous.
- 14:56Does she do? And there is Always Something
- 14:59There to Remind me that she did not one.
- 15:04I think she does. Yes, it was born to love you.
- 15:09I'm just being positive now just for a second.
- 15:11I mean the other thing about the gangers yeah, go on damn.
- 15:15Sure. Thank you.
- 15:16More positive, the rest of the story.
- 15:20It's a that and the Gang of make sense.
- 15:22In terms of, he said that they're losing were losing our
- 15:25work out every week rights for the couldn't get yourself humans
- 15:28in there, so they have to have some Phantom Manor.
- 15:30And again, So what would be clumsy or you know?
- 15:37To do it, but here we are. So I'm going to join the video
- 15:41here, they are coming into the mix in a beautifully.
- 15:48Tailored jacket there, I believe object like that, in my
- 15:50cupboard, alongside my Doctor Who DVDs, other Theory, season 5
- 15:54jacket. They changed it to this more.
- 15:56I think it was less heavy material but a perfectly
- 15:59seasoned firewood. I prefer a season five
- 16:01characterization of y'all. But yeah, so they are smart
- 16:04boner. I've got a clean.
- 16:07A female Mite born actually. I was it Bonner, you know, our
- 16:10for a was, don't ya know, I've never met on but a the drama
- 16:14group on my field in Edinburgh. He got a couple of ways we done
- 16:18before he became famous. So I know a couple people that
- 16:21know and they said oh, but I'll get it.
- 16:23He was a member of this and I'd and of course, my first
- 16:25reaction, when I found the site was all he was a doctor who is
- 16:29in the record and what other Doctor Who's was he in?
- 16:34He's been the 11 of course he can.
- 16:37Countless big finish's now. I know you don't like it and you
- 16:42know what, it's not his performance.
- 16:44I just don't know the way they write him.
- 16:46All those scenes of all those different voices talking in his
- 16:48head. But you know, cuz I okay I'm
- 16:52gonna say something positive, I think I think Mark Donna, is
- 16:56that right? I sent it to me.
- 16:57Want to say boner. Do you know Mark Bonner?
- 17:00He gives us a perfectly. Nice understated performance in
- 17:03this. Yeah, yeah I think he is the
- 17:06best compact size. Oh boy.
- 17:09This is a story about identity. Yes, cuz I'm Raquel Cassidy got
- 17:14the job. Very last minute.
- 17:15The actress that was supposed to play are pulled out currently
- 17:18on. So she was literally shove done
- 17:19with the makeup. Fine, I believe in giving the
- 17:22script. Well, I need to talk about her
- 17:24as well because I got a few things.
- 17:25So but this is a story about identity.
- 17:27Yeah. Rebel flare shoulders.
- 17:29Yeah, it's about. Who's who?
- 17:31And I'm going to see it for you, dude.
- 17:33You're sorry to interrupt that's just a big giant kumbhaka.
- 17:36I don't know, there's so much coming, this story I call you.
- 17:39Oh yeah, I've come for Life. I'll tell you what watching this
- 17:46nice those horrible company faces all over the An episode 2.
- 17:51I was like, oh my God, reminds me of an old G.
- 17:54I went to ones honestly. Oh God.
- 17:59Yeah. What's up with that?
- 18:00After that, I shut your eyes. I'm determined to make this
- 18:04point. This story is about identity.
- 18:06Yeah. Yes.
- 18:08And who's who, that's why, then if you can answer this question
- 18:12for me, why are these characters so ill-defined?
- 18:15Why is there nothing to hang on these characters?
- 18:18Russell Rec Hall, Cassidy's character, is the one in charge,
- 18:22and she's got a blood clot. That's basically what you learn
- 18:24about her. Mark Banas character is Is that
- 18:27he is the is he Scottish. I mean, he's got it, he's the
- 18:30scotch one and he's got a son and that's basically what you
- 18:34learn about him and Jen's character is that she Once Upon
- 18:39a Time War well he's and for now some reason she's a psychotic
- 18:42that was to take over the world and that's all we learn about
- 18:45this. And so in a story which is about
- 18:48sort of who is who yeah, touch it will Define characters but
- 18:53that don't make any sense to me at all.
- 18:55This should be like a It was a Mars you know where every
- 18:58character is so well Define, it should be our silence in the
- 19:01library where every character so one slide.
- 19:04So you can play about with that, but there's nothing to eat.
- 19:07I'm not going to be a. I'm not going to sit here and
- 19:10see him. It's what's, the market?
- 19:12Like those East, I can't disagree, but but they'll go
- 19:16back to the West Point a bit cut out.
- 19:18Like, we found out that the Kill cast.
- 19:21His character is claustrophobic now at the start of the second
- 19:24episode, when we get to it, you know, there's the whole thing in
- 19:26the tunnel the rest of it and just sort of things like that.
- 19:30Do you still a woman? So I think we've added so much.
- 19:32I mean, you also find out there Jane's character.
- 19:34I mean, you know, that she falls completely like after this
- 19:37storm, we do wait. I don't get it.
- 19:40But you think that she's got originally is that she's got I
- 19:45think she's got like a photographic memory or
- 19:47something. So, if I actually put all this
- 19:49in our heads, I believe was the reason why it perhaps it caused
- 19:53an homage. But again, just taking a little
- 19:55things like that make let me know.
- 19:57In this script. Well that's pointed out well, I
- 19:59know because it's because I'm not buying that excuse.
- 20:04All right, it's not in the story.
- 20:08You don't rush it. Raquel Cassidy's performance
- 20:10right? Yes.
- 20:11Whether it's very good or a little bit disinterested because
- 20:15she's got a naturalism about which I quite like, but she does
- 20:19sort of say, every lie. Like she's about to stifle you
- 20:21Lon. Yeah, well, I think the
- 20:24character is completely fed up being here and as I said, she
- 20:27didn't really get the scripted very last minute.
- 20:30So I think she's probably not the most prepared that test for
- 20:33her for going to the doctor Utopia convention.
- 20:37You know she was absolutely Charming.
- 20:40I think she's got something. I mean I quite like summer for a
- 20:45like just complete rule that I sort of God please especially
- 20:50with another self but it's you Because if they often called
- 20:53since I don't really like that sort of stuff.
- 20:56So now these are going in today, we've been talking about the
- 21:00whole thing. And so here's the here's the
- 21:03come bucket with here sooner. Have you ever seen so much
- 21:06comment or your life? I've not.
- 21:11Oh God. Look at that ghastly face.
- 21:14Coming out of there. I mean when I look at things
- 21:16like that I'm martelly screen. That's what this is.
- 21:21I think Something 12 said it's ghoulish.
- 21:24That's the word dishonest or a purist.
- 21:26There's a lot of fuel is freaky things and - I've got another
- 21:29word for it, though comical in episode 2 when she becomes.
- 21:35Like actually, I know why you like this?
- 21:37We've got another Lazarus creature in her own way.
- 21:39All these disjointed limbs, do not know.
- 21:43I was going to eat all the in but I'll defend the Lazarus CGI.
- 21:47Todd. I but neither the CJ of the
- 21:50monster nurses just shows. So, you see that if you see the
- 21:56Comfort to confidential and you see the Red Queen, the actress
- 22:01is on, and she's just making me silly sorted, feces to the
- 22:04screen. And I'm thinking well, I said
- 22:05director doing with this because surely it should be, you know,
- 22:08like scary Beacon. Scary frightening faces.
- 22:11So that's why it looks really old because she's just very,
- 22:14very much if I want to start with this because I feel that
- 22:16there's a lot more stuff. This was the only story.
- 22:25I believe that he directed lots of be pretty every week.
- 22:45I know we got to go dark sometimes.
- 22:48Boy, boy, this is dreary. Oh Holly the fact Tim, I think
- 22:52with much set those much, my father's normally brings it
- 22:54every now and then in The Sheiks seeing that that feel numb when
- 22:58the second waves coming? Well that's just crazy week.
- 23:01You touch. She always has this little
- 23:03snowball that he shakes. What a solar storm hitting now
- 23:08and the answer to all this acid is making me think at every
- 23:11nation quite a bit, you know. Yeah they are.
- 23:15There was a funky. I think I'm going to be sick.
- 23:18Well, thank you very much, thankful to Farmers and me, but
- 23:20all the other areas are. Yeah, he certainly be more
- 23:23watching some television because there's not quite a countdown,
- 23:26but there's obviously like a well, there is really, there's a
- 23:28careers Academy and they're cut off from the Tardis as well.
- 23:32Just like in your pants and he's about to do something that some
- 23:36acts with straight because it turns up an umpteenth episodes
- 23:39and that's go to the top of a tall building and get
- 23:41electrocuted. Yeah I think they think that
- 23:44means sort of Epic in New York because I maybe tenant.
- 23:48It a couple of times in the out there.
- 23:50Matt Smith. Did it in Vampires of Venice, in
- 23:54Venice. Obviously, I do love though,
- 23:57that this is not a castle, like, how Borden, or more boring, us
- 24:00should see with it be. And this was like, Beauty from
- 24:03the deep stale in artists are. I mean, I forgot a few different
- 24:06because it's a 60s in the spookiness.
- 24:08But if you'd made that know with the just an arm cardboard in our
- 24:12mailbox access, I like the fact that this castle in the city and
- 24:16had so much. Yeah, without the storm there.
- 24:21At least at least I hit you, right?
- 24:22They've gone to a physical location which of the what they
- 24:24do mostly in. Yeah.
- 24:27Can I ask you another question? Now we're seeing the Flesh in
- 24:31the you know, they're they're most some would say ghoulish.
- 24:34Others would say comical makeup. I think it was clearly actually.
- 24:39This is the this story falls down, are on the flesh being or
- 24:47the gangers being victims. Doesn't it because In the end is
- 24:50like ganga's Liberation. He takes them off to someplace
- 24:54to to go go and fight for their rights.
- 24:57Yeah, I think is a polling then that they should portray the
- 25:03victims of this story as monsters.
- 25:08They're like the these like ghoulish horrid disfigured
- 25:12monsters. And I'm well right message to
- 25:15put across Well, these were certainly, the Jane character
- 25:20is, is went mad. That's the first thing.
- 25:23I don't think she's represented with every single gang at out.
- 25:27There are, but I'm talking about the look of them.
- 25:30I just, I just feel like it's almost.
- 25:33I'm not gonna say like I'm T disabled because that's quite
- 25:36strong, but it's like these people are monsters, because
- 25:39they look monstrous, or they don't, they look other having,
- 25:44that's a great message. well, it's interesting because the
- 25:50Matthew Graham wrote us, he said it was supposed to be a study on
- 25:52minor role is and hello. Yeah, along the way as well.
- 26:00Sorry, I got lost somewhere on the way as well.
- 26:04Well. I think, I think the gym
- 26:08character obviously seems to take over, I mean, okay, was
- 26:11Cassidy's Cleaves, which means the rate find out, which is the
- 26:15reason why she's called evade clean Stony.
- 26:20She can get just kinda be asked. By the second option is like I
- 26:23just can't be bothered us now judging character.
- 26:25So it's almost like And to me, if it's a study on my number is,
- 26:31it's a minority group who they have a little extra absolutely.
- 26:34Like we could design the wrong way, it's a bit like robots are
- 26:41deaf, which is a study of like, like an oppressed slave.
- 26:45Yeah, this is but they're going around.
- 26:47Murdering people. So the moral of knowledge, a
- 26:51somewhere a bit well the Jane characters yellow just kind of
- 26:55just go along with it and They we must talk about Jim.
- 27:00Okay. Yes.
- 27:01Because I'm perfectly convinced that that is one of the worst
- 27:07performances I've seen in Doctor Who I like.
- 27:10There is something very bizarre and mannered and awkward and
- 27:16sort of little girlish. It's so weird.
- 27:20Every time she's on scram. Okay, go and go away.
- 27:25You're freaking me out. Will you go away?
- 27:27Yeah, but I think I think the point out though is that she's
- 27:30just sort of acting because she's going completely, she's
- 27:34been corrupted by that storm, but we don't know that at this
- 27:38point. Do it with.
- 27:39In episode one we're supposed to empathize with her because Rory
- 27:43empathizes with her. Yeah but that's the guy not
- 27:45remember you but no point. Did I sympathize with that
- 27:49character? I was just like you are not know
- 27:52but because he's a gang that's been corrupted.
- 27:54That's the point. Oh, maybe I'll miss maybe I'll
- 27:58miss something then other like it's just every time she was on
- 28:01the screen I was I was very distracted by her performance.
- 28:05Yeah but I think that's that was delivered it because it says
- 28:07here she's playing the going on person who has been all gets
- 28:10more and more mad. It's just goes on and gets more
- 28:12and more vicious and in eventually turns into TR
- 28:17portable crappy CGI. Monster in episode 2, she does
- 28:20all but go, you know haha, I'm gonna kill everybody.
- 28:24The thing that I'm a bit disappointed with the stories.
- 28:26Ruri hasn't really learned his lesson about is too nice in
- 28:31terms of I mean we love Rudy but Mike is surprised as I do share.
- 28:37I mean, yeah I mean I think for this agonizingly terrible story
- 28:41about the little girl in The Willies now, but I mean, I think
- 28:45he was treated pretty crap by evening and then it's not really
- 28:48learned his lesson here because he's through many times in US.
- 28:53It. But in a way though, I quite
- 28:55like the fact that it's He's got some female interest because I
- 28:58think it's good. Timing was sort of putting on
- 29:00plays, really, don't you be telling me, he fancies her.
- 29:05Well, no, but she certainly find seems to like him.
- 29:08It's okay. That's she grabbed something
- 29:11slugs in without any information whatsoever, but road is to kinda
- 29:16guy, but Amy is jealous of her surroundings restaurant, and
- 29:20it's like, well, now, you know how it feels love?
- 29:23Did you see that? She just coughed a lot of seamen
- 29:25up into that sink. Yes, you have been, there's this
- 29:29beautiful city starts because at this point she said that she's
- 29:34not the storm. She even said, you know like oh
- 29:36my God, that hurts too much have been so that's going on is
- 29:39completely like she's starting to go, completely would be here.
- 29:43Hmm, and I remember when this part and I'm gonna put this but
- 29:46oh my God, this is another seat, bad CGI moment.
- 30:02Sneak or something, I'll do this sort of thing on hands.
- 30:08Please party, people think of us we yeah we've seen a fair bit of
- 30:13sort of coming substance and now we've just seen tunnel is like
- 30:16an enormous penis coming for a glory hole.
- 30:19I mean why I'm trying to tell us Gacy
- 30:37and she's not real self. That.
- 30:41Oh my God, I'm not quite, but because he said, they get the
- 30:45guys are still trying to figure out who they are or what are
- 30:47they? Because I've been corrupted by
- 30:48the storm, she's just burn herself, right?
- 30:51And also realize that she's a ganger at the same time and
- 30:54she's really kind of just sort of.
- 30:55Oh dear. Yeah.
- 30:59But no, but no, she don't know. She's just like, well, if you
- 31:01were told, by the way, you're not going on by the me and
- 31:04decide. You know what, that explains a
- 31:06lot about my evil. God, probably.
- 31:09He actually probably be. Oh my God.
- 31:10What does that mean? What do you think?
- 31:15It's really, really spooky. And I think they were going for
- 31:21eyeball which unless I think that make out there, I mean I
- 31:25see Jolla someone. The makeup is pretty creepy.
- 31:28Yeah, I like to get that. They've done it for the kids
- 31:31because they want to provide scares.
- 31:32I just do not like the inference that the Monstrous looking
- 31:37characters are the Ins and it's a ton of, it's a monstrous
- 31:42parody of the human face. That's what I don't like.
- 31:48Okay, but my thoughts about, but for the opposite rule without
- 31:52like a Galaxy for. They'll be looking monster was
- 31:56actually the good guys and all that.
- 31:58I mean, I don't think, you know, I think I would have done and it
- 32:02is, it's something I've nicked from flight for entirety because
- 32:06we just their episodes of this. And one of the contributors said
- 32:10that what they should have done was like the young Kenny Valley
- 32:12thing where it's almost an exact replica of the face.
- 32:16But something's up Get off. So yeah, always your eyes to the
- 32:19fact that whereas it's so differentiated you know exactly
- 32:23who's the ganger and he's a person.
- 32:27I think maybe that I mean I don't know whether some of the
- 32:30thing I mean I should tell you is because you just get this is
- 32:33going to give you more an argument and you just going to
- 32:36salvage that spot. If I was reading I read that.
- 32:39The chef computer voice was originally with the one to do
- 32:42it. They were actually going to do
- 32:44it now. You're challenged him.
- 32:46Oh no they were they they were thank God.
- 32:49Didn't do that. Oh God.
- 32:59Here we go. A stupid computer voice back.
- 33:03It's time. It's time for the work shift to
- 33:05start. What I say, you know, do Mark
- 33:13Bona is quite handsome as me. He's a bit of a silver fox.
- 33:17Yeah. Yeah, I like that.
- 33:20Anyway. The 11 on the big finish is
- 33:24therefore called them. I think he's come back far too
- 33:27many times, but I thought I'd do alaikum, well.
- 33:29They recast him didn't know as the knowing and the 12 generally
- 33:34do. Hey Mackenzie.
- 33:35Oh, shoes fabulous. And she couldn't have a question
- 33:39for you. Yeah.
- 33:41Okay. So the moral of this story
- 33:43although the purpose of this story within the Arc of season
- 33:47six. Yeah, yes.
- 33:49Is to bring in the idea of gangers because the doctor has
- 33:53died. Yeah, Impossible, Astronaut
- 33:56there the moon. And so what we're doing is we're
- 33:59introducing all these elements that could explain that, it
- 34:02might not have been the doctor. It could have been a ganger or,
- 34:04you know, it could have been a, the, the robot from let's kill
- 34:07Hitler. Yeah, is bringing all this
- 34:09oscillator. And at the, in the same breath,
- 34:12the other purpose of this story is to introduce the ganger
- 34:16element, which then reveals that Amy has been a ganger All along
- 34:20shock horror. She's Madam kouvaris prisoner?
- 34:23I'm sorry. Did you not know that you look
- 34:25quite shocked as everybody? It's been a few years.
- 34:32That's that is what the another purposes is to expose me as a
- 34:36ganger. So you've got to introduce this
- 34:37concept first before you can drop the twist.
- 34:40Yes. Yeah.
- 34:41So if the whole purpose is story is kind of about Amy technically
- 34:45she anything to do in this But I think that's quite clever
- 34:51because it means you're never that when the twist comes at the
- 34:54end, you're not expecting it. But I do not think Amy should
- 34:57have, it would make more sense if Amy, if Amy had been doing
- 35:02the wrong row and Amy at have sympathy with the gangers,
- 35:05because she is a ganger Yeah. Yeah I'll get stuck to the what
- 35:13but because as I do honestly that's a weird stuff going on an
- 35:17episode to between ganger Amy and yeah there are some facts as
- 35:26I see when I watch this back the first episode of thought was
- 35:30pretty good despite what you think.
- 35:31But I thought episode 2 when we get to was there was all your
- 35:35shoes before. I mean I may be struggling to
- 35:39defend as we're able to come, try to defend ourselves.
- 35:42I'm gonna pull back for a second.
- 35:43Now, covered in, you give me a couple of reasons as to why You
- 35:48really like this? I just like the spookiness of
- 35:51it, you know, this doppelganger storyline like you've got this,
- 35:54this scene here and I don't know that you spent go.
- 35:57It's a very good performance but what she's told all these
- 36:00screening and he's simplifies in my they're going or who we know
- 36:04that she's going a bit loopy because she's just like a punt.
- 36:08Well, she has punched rolling with her gang your hand, and all
- 36:12the rest of it, but she's here know.
- 36:15And she's remembering when she was a girl.
- 36:19She was remembering a, mimic the memories.
- 36:21So if you're the gang up and you're getting all this stuff,
- 36:24just been putting your head and you know you're not just some
- 36:28pieces, put a sager, you're hardwired as I think the doctor
- 36:33puts it, you're so she's getting all these memories and she's
- 36:36remembering And Rory has been really coming together.
- 36:42I don't think this was You know, we had reacted at all, that's
- 36:47bad. She's like, no.
- 37:01I'm me, you know how to talk about characters, you know, when
- 37:10they talk about their agonizing back story because I have a
- 37:13budget to tell it, yeah, honestly, this puts all of that
- 37:16to shame. I had toast for me breakfast, I
- 37:20wore my little, well, he's on my own place.
- 37:22Are you from? So it's kind of trying to put a
- 37:58sort of dramatic wedge between Amy and Rory, isn't it?
- 38:03Yeah, she's a doctor. Oh, thank God.
- 38:07Sorry that. So the doctor just seen that not
- 38:10the greatest CGM over the world and they come bucket.
- 38:13That's him. So the doctor, whether it's
- 38:16Sonic Screwdriver connected with the Flesh and so the cost of
- 38:20places as the doctor puts reaching out in the same Loop,
- 38:23you know, come on and my interpretation is that they can
- 38:27create A personal doctor because of that.
- 38:32And I don't disagree with you on something and but you know what
- 38:37I did, like that bit there where is shoes melt within the acid,
- 38:42he hopes up the stairs, it is socks, go out there, that's
- 38:45quite funny. And God, I laughs, who's this
- 38:49fella? I was just this morning, I don't
- 38:52even know that man is, yeah, I mean, how many puzzle are placed
- 38:58support for us to us. I was the one who died at the
- 39:01beginning. Anyone who fell in the acid?
- 39:03No, that's that, would suppose on the other day.
- 39:05Hi, is a bit of a problem, but I watch this morning and I
- 39:07couldn't tell you a thing about these people.
- 39:10So, at the moment, you see the moment before Jen comes in and
- 39:15has fuel cycle? So at the moment Cleaves this
- 39:17Stone, the leader in our gang from, so she's been, and then
- 39:20she's like, oh my God. She said I got remember, we have
- 39:27the advantage now. Because I think their
- 39:35perspective they think. Well, you know, we need to
- 39:40straight they're gonna kill us as their perspective but I just,
- 39:44I just feel like, then the whole nature of them as victims is
- 39:48lost. Because they're no longer
- 39:52sympathetic there. Now monsters that are on the
- 39:55attack that are basically saying they're going to take over the
- 39:58world. So any empathy we might have had
- 40:01for them is out the window. No.
- 40:07Yeah. Well, let me fill that won't
- 40:11stop the animation. Not like this, but to be filled,
- 40:18they weren't getting it, didn't they?
- 40:20The real people were praying like, oh my God.
- 40:23Now, you know me and being very drunk of it and they've
- 40:26obviously just thought, you know, what we're going to do, so
- 40:30he will, right? I'll tell you why I find the
- 40:33performance of Jen so bizarre. And stated it's because the
- 40:38performance record cast is so naturalistic and highlight when
- 40:42they're in the same together. I'm like, did you two get the
- 40:44same notes? Like, are you in the same story?
- 40:48I can do that. But you can see that about
- 40:52really any Doctor Who story. There's always like, a pulled
- 40:55our oh and a hurry in time. Wash to choose completely
- 40:59evident in spits, I think pulled our own, Colin Baker, both know,
- 41:02they're adapt and survive. In that one, I'll pull down was
- 41:06Basically what he was doing and Sheryl Crow, she does not know,
- 41:19is he's standing on the edge of oblivia.
- 41:26She's It is, do not last very long.
- 42:06Yeah. Well, it wouldn't have one of
- 42:07them, one of users killed because the real person killed.
- 42:11You. Look at this, we're all right.
- 42:12Twists around the neck. You always do that, but start,
- 42:17that's hilarious. Come on.
- 42:35Forcibly want a sharp because it's just nothing of visual
- 42:38interest. It's just all dark.
- 42:39Gloomy rooms ugly. Old Master de la Todo from Deep
- 42:43Space 9. You know, people people looking
- 42:46gloomy and miserable. I mean, it's not a lot of fun.
- 42:49This is it, it's not fun. Doctor who will give you that,
- 42:53but it's supposed to be, I keep saying it.
- 42:56But supposed to be darkened Duty and Key and well, that's right.
- 43:02A Mobius is dark and creepy and spooky, but it's fucking
- 43:05hilarious as well Bates. This is a key, but this is, this
- 43:09is weird. They meet each other's so that
- 43:12would be awkward. Imagine if you meet with them.
- 43:14Well, I've already saved my real self is an illusion but and if
- 43:20you met a double of yourself. Oh now you are talking.
- 43:24Okay yeah well that would be our usual.
- 43:27Do you really want to ask me that question?
- 43:29If I met a couple of myself, please continue.
- 43:42No, I was going to see. I can only imagine you being
- 43:44your double job. Nothing on messy and the master
- 43:47Jesus Christ, it will be all sorts going on.
- 43:50Not come back, immediately. Big enough.
- 43:57You've actually shocked me. Well done often that's the first
- 44:00one that's that's about the team that's a bit.
- 44:03The team is having a conniption fit right now.
- 44:14Are you aware of this? He ain't gonna make it to the
- 44:17end of this one. I'm telling or devil, you know,
- 44:21she surely knows it. We might see something about the
- 44:23come pocket. Surely that can I say?
- 44:26Think about Mark Banas character.
- 44:28What's his name again? Say, you've got even know his
- 44:34name anyway. Mop on the sky.
- 44:39Right. Honestly, do you remember that
- 44:41scene in episode two, that agonizing sane?
- 44:43When that Dreadful kid, actor, turns up going daddy.
- 44:46Daddy already going is this her, is this how we're talking on the
- 44:50sympathy strings with this character?
- 44:53I think he actually available. Yeah, he actually brilliantly
- 44:57with the kids terrible and I'll tell you where the kid is not
- 45:00the busiest stiff competition in This era.
- 45:03Yeah, I would argue that it does worse than him.
- 45:08Please name and shame. I'm not above name is shaming
- 45:11kid actors, and this thing. Oh god, well, are in God.
- 45:17How did you know? It's the worst is that, but I'm
- 45:19so bored. Remember in the forest of the
- 45:21night, that Bunch. Oh God.
- 45:24Yeah, hey me, you've come back to me, please.
- 45:30So, let's see. So this is Rachel, cut.
- 45:32This is a Cliffs know. She even, even the gang of
- 45:35versus went. Oh no.
- 45:36This is typical me. Because the real Cleaves is not
- 45:38going to is written into coal, basically them because they're
- 45:41different from us and all the rest of it.
- 45:44So, even the kind of Cleves never saw a change from the way
- 45:48they're on our side. God, I can't be bothered with
- 45:51us. What's happening?
- 45:52Why is my beauty of doing? As often as the actress, you
- 45:56know? Not the character is that what
- 45:57is this, nonsense? You're asking me to play.
- 45:59All right, I'll give it a go. She's obviously very
- 46:02stereotypical sort of that different from our selves are so
- 46:08very darling. So hang on a second.
- 46:13What should I say? I think she was nothing that was
- 46:19inattention. So, now they're the victims
- 46:22again, because I've come to the negotiating table, but they're
- 46:25all about to be executed. Yes.
- 46:27So that's what the different says, obviously, like that.
- 46:30So I can understand. But unfortunately, the leader
- 46:32becomes Jane and Jane this was completely utterly mad, so
- 46:36that's the problem. Yeah.
- 46:40Sorry, the problem, one of the other problems is is not a lot
- 46:43of these people. I don't care what happens to any
- 46:45of them. Because she's completely if
- 46:57she's even seeing on the real self for me as you know like a
- 47:01hold of a piece of well that's typical me on God, what the hell
- 47:03am I like? It's almost like a murders been
- 47:05held up to her and she's been a kind of be like us, so call me,
- 47:10all right and I say sorry. Positive diagnostic like in
- 47:13episode 2, there's a scene between the two Cleaves, right?
- 47:17Let she go. Those guys, you know, you got
- 47:20the one with the brain clock. Welcome to the human race.
- 47:23That what that line is a banger. I was like, that's a great look.
- 47:28Oh, it's no, no. James gone, completely utterly.
- 47:34She's been all right. If she's killing us then, like
- 47:36fuck it. We're going to kill them and and
- 47:40you can see even the include species even like, oh okay,
- 47:43right? Um, I'm not sure.
- 47:45So who we ruin for in this? If the humans are trying to kill
- 47:49the gangers and a gang is a trying to kill the humans who we
- 47:52supposed to be ruler. Well, the doctor Give me an
- 47:57order to go lesbians. Oh well, yeah, they can't get
- 48:00back to the Tardis can actually, you know, that was quite a fun
- 48:03visual you know, the start is just sticking out of the acid.
- 48:07Say look at me funny fun things. So obviously she's seen the so
- 48:11that's the real. No, that's a really that's a
- 48:15real chain. So, what is this fun trying to
- 48:21figure out? Who's who So I'll be honest when
- 48:25I watched it back, there was a but there's a bit in the second
- 48:27episode that are completely forgot, and I was like, oh yeah,
- 48:31of course. So that's why going on.
- 48:33So when it was the dock Toto, that speeding anger and not, the
- 48:37doctor, not at all. When you see, free Jennifer's
- 48:42basically to go on to say that director must be weeping that
- 48:46night the night before. How the hell am I going to bring
- 48:50to the screen? That's what's good for can see
- 48:52it. I mean I'll tell you what.
- 48:53Another thing about this, it's okay to be scared stuff.
- 48:56That's it, that's it. That's it. 67 year old, that's a
- 48:59good video. Okay.
- 49:00Then cometh come and sleep through the castle in slow
- 49:04motion with their sort of posture and their helmets.
- 49:06Coming through the, through the senior going through the smoke
- 49:09there, across the country, I'm going to stop in drawing again.
- 49:11Sorry. Oh, I just find this genso
- 49:17unlikable. Well, that's the real one and
- 49:22she said well I found them all under one the book to color.
- 49:26So the gang are one gets invited to going on Wednesday colder
- 49:29now. So she's even been mad enough to
- 49:32color a real self or other cell that Soma.
- 49:35And she is an inroad. He's just been so much.
- 49:38A nice guy is like I need to help her and these women but you
- 49:41know, I like what I like and I think, I think he's an idiot.
- 49:58He's too nice, a guy. And as I said it comes across
- 50:02her, but - but I like endearment or Farmers that, you know, like
- 50:07he's wanting to help people, he's a nurse.

- 50:24this episode and on that large. And that's the episode.
- 50:27No, but he gets lots to do in the next one.
- 50:30I like how you said they'll do like it's got its wait-and-see
- 50:33it and it's know you went full is going to go ho ho and see you
- 50:36know because I think that sounds all right.
- 50:38John. I'll tell you what my reaction
- 50:40to this Cliffhanger. Yeah.

- 50:52can even get going are going a doctor like I couldn't lie.
- 50:58You could even get a free fish. I beg your pardon.
- 51:01That was weird. Yeah, I was going somewhere,
- 51:05very strange and I were okay I'll figure that we like come on
- 51:11the doctors face or later. You'll see yourself on this one.
- 51:18I thought it was gonna be me. I'm the restrained worm.
- 51:22When I can I say something about watching the episode were you?
- 51:25Yeah. Well that's the most fun I've
- 51:27ever had with it but that's because I've not got a listen to
- 51:29the terrible dialogue and I can just talk to you, isn't it?
- 51:37Miss or yes, I think I slightly prefer
- 51:50the second s. Oh, that's interesting because I
- 51:55do not prefer the first episode. I mean I don't like it but are
- 51:58slightly prefer it and you wait till we get to the end.
- 52:03Oh my word. Yeah, I mean I've tried it, you
- 52:06are defended the swamp but when it gets to that CGI shortly and
- 52:10even I'm going to be struggling but still, but I'll try my best
- 52:12to we see each other. I shot him talking about.
- 52:16But it's DJ Short. The bad one.
- 52:18The one we both know, you think I'm talking about something
- 52:22different. Okay well as an enticing
- 52:28Cliffhanger for the two-day gap between this and the next one
- 52:32going out, okay days. You do that, I apologize.
- 52:38If I was relentlessly negative for all that but obviously he's
- 52:42going to stop this body. You're just carrying on.
- 52:44No, I'm still talking. Yeah, no.
- 52:46But I just want to say that was a lot of fun though.
