- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: You know, we've been really looking forward to this interview
- 0:08Speaker 2: for a long time. My co host Ashley is sad
- 0:13Speaker 2: she can't be here, but she did just announce her pregnancy,
- 0:17Speaker 2: so she is, you know, chilling out nesting as they
- 0:20Speaker 2: call it. But we've talked about the two of you
- 0:24Speaker 2: outside of our show very often. There is very few
- 0:27Speaker 2: people in this world that I think and there's a
- 0:29Speaker 2: lot of people that wanted you guys to date. There's
- 0:32Speaker 2: very few people that wanted you to date more than Ashley,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I believe it. Yeah, she really solid at the mansion.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Justin and Susie, thanks for joining the almsten this podcast.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Thanks for having us, Thank you.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Thanks coming out here. I mean, this is a big
- 0:45Speaker 2: deal for you guys to come out to Carmel to
- 0:47Speaker 2: hang out. We were just talking about the fact that
- 0:49Speaker 2: you haven't been here before. I have been coming with
- 0:53Speaker 2: iHeart only for the last like five years. Bo I
- 0:55Speaker 2: come once a year, maybe twice a year. This is
- 0:58Speaker 2: one of the most magical places I think in the US.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's been pretty cool. I mean we've only
- 1:04Speaker 4: been here a day, but even just talking.
- 1:06Speaker 5: About walking down to the beach.
- 1:08Speaker 4: The vibe, seeing the golf course sounds pretty dreamy. I'm
- 1:12Speaker 4: excited to I mean, I'm happy to be here on
- 1:14Speaker 4: the podcast, and I'm also excited to get the day started.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys gonna get it out of here. But
- 1:19Speaker 2: we do have a lot of questions for you. You know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: I think when we were last with you was at
- 1:24Speaker 2: the Bachelor Mansion. Yes, Ashley was able to sit down
- 1:27Speaker 2: with the two of you. She called me right afterwards
- 1:30Speaker 2: and said that you two were not dating, and I said,
- 1:33Speaker 2: there's zero chances are not dating. Hannah was actually on
- 1:37Speaker 2: the call for this conversation. I was like, I was
- 1:40Speaker 2: in an interview, but there's zero chance to very attractive
- 1:44Speaker 2: people are this good of friends, and they haven't at
- 1:46Speaker 2: any point looked at each other and been like, no,
- 1:48Speaker 2: let's just make this work.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Well, you know that was the case for a long time,
- 1:53Speaker 3: long time a year.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Yeah, So they're basically to set the record straight. We
- 1:59Speaker 4: kind of put ourselves back in time when we did
- 2:01Speaker 4: that interview. I mean we exaggerated it and we like
- 2:03Speaker 4: leaned into the funny aspects of like the dynamic. But
- 2:08Speaker 4: for about a year we were just friends. But it's
- 2:12Speaker 4: not like I didn't think about it during that time,
- 2:15Speaker 4: Like there weren't It wasn't like there was never physical
- 2:18Speaker 4: attraction before, but we never really addressed it. If they're like,
- 2:22Speaker 4: I don't know if Justin was or not, but or
- 2:24Speaker 4: if we just fell in love with my personality. You know,
- 2:27Speaker 4: I'm a personality gal. So I'm joking, but yeah, I
- 2:31Speaker 4: think that we kind of we just agreed. We were
- 2:34Speaker 4: like we were still feeling things out. Things were great,
- 2:37Speaker 4: but we were just like, I just don't know, this
- 2:39Speaker 4: is the time to like launch our relationship and let
- 2:43Speaker 4: everybody into our personal world. Like we hadn't really talked
- 2:46Speaker 4: about navigating it publicly, so we kind of just went
- 2:49Speaker 4: back in time.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And everything we said was true. Timeline was a little foggy.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I uh, okay, I'm more curious, Like I'm I'm going
- 3:00Speaker 2: to do this interview out of curiosity. Yeah, my first
- 3:03Speaker 2: question for you the two of you, so you obviously
- 3:05Speaker 2: were friends for a year. You said there are moments
- 3:07Speaker 2: that it was just the two of you together, like
- 3:09Speaker 2: this wasn't like you were talking in groups.
- 3:10Speaker 6: So we talked about all the time, like when when
- 3:12Speaker 6: she comes over now and we're like cuddled up watching
- 3:14Speaker 6: a movie. I think, like last week, I was like,
- 3:17Speaker 6: isn't it weird that not too long ago we would
- 3:20Speaker 6: go over to each other's houses watch The Bachelor or
- 3:23Speaker 6: a movie whatever, and just be on opposite ends of
- 3:25Speaker 6: the sofa. We would do the same things we're doing now.
- 3:27Speaker 6: We would go get yo, go back, watch.
- 3:30Speaker 5: A show, and then I'd go home or you'd go home.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And it was like never weird, Like that's not like
- 3:37Speaker 2: it was never like we're sitting on opposite ends of
- 3:38Speaker 2: the couch.
- 3:39Speaker 3: We're like just good friends.
- 3:41Speaker 5: I don't know, not between us.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I don't have another like friend that I've done that
- 3:47Speaker 4: with that's a guy where yeah, I've never had that before. Really,
- 3:51Speaker 4: I mean I've had great guy friends. But yeah, I
- 3:53Speaker 4: mean we were really close. I think also we both
- 3:55Speaker 4: had moved to LA, so we didn't we do have friends.
- 3:58Speaker 4: We both have great friends in LA. It's wild how
- 4:01Speaker 4: amazing our friend groups are, how and how quickly we've
- 4:06Speaker 4: made that happen. But yeah, we Weirdly, I think we
- 4:08Speaker 4: just like really relied on each other and leaned on
- 4:10Speaker 4: each other having just moved to LA. So I don't
- 4:14Speaker 4: know it wasn't it was never weird.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I like, Okay, my second follow up question because Ashley
- 4:19Speaker 2: and I had this argument for forty five minutes.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I love that.
- 4:22Speaker 5: I wish she was here. I really wish she was here.
- 4:27Speaker 2: The interview would go in a totally different director like yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I and I want you to tell me if I'm wrong. Okay,
- 4:38Speaker 2: When when, after the time with the mansion, we're talking
- 4:41Speaker 2: about this, I said, there's just no way they're not
- 4:42Speaker 2: like into each other because I don't know anybody at
- 4:46Speaker 2: my age. I'm thirty four. I don't know how old
- 4:47Speaker 2: you guys are, say twenty in her twenty, so like
- 4:50Speaker 2: anywhere from like twenty five.
- 4:52Speaker 3: To whatever that are just like.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Into each other as friends and not at all think
- 5:00Speaker 2: about like it romantically. Like I don't know anybody else
- 5:03Speaker 2: other than the two of you at this point at
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know, when that timeline was foggy, but you were
- 5:07Speaker 2: telling us you were just friends. It's like, I've never
- 5:09Speaker 2: known anybody just be friends who are single, attractive, looking
- 5:13Speaker 2: to date, obviously wanting love, wanting to find somebody. Do
- 5:17Speaker 2: you believe that people can just really be friends or
- 5:21Speaker 2: do you believe will always end up being like at
- 5:24Speaker 2: some point like should we just give this a shot?
- 5:26Speaker 6: So I think I think there's two answer, two parts
- 5:29Speaker 6: of that question. So the first and my dynamic with
- 5:33Speaker 6: some of my friends is different than Susie's because we've actually,
- 5:35Speaker 6: like Natalie, we've had this discussion as well. I actually
- 5:39Speaker 6: have a few female friends that I've never done anything
- 5:44Speaker 6: physically with. One of my good friends, Natalie, I went
- 5:49Speaker 6: to preschool with. I'm know since preschool, I'm still good
- 5:51Speaker 6: friends this day, never a single thing.
- 5:55Speaker 3: My parents love it there, so they've always been like, oh,
- 5:58Speaker 3: if like why not Natalie, if you're still single and
- 6:01Speaker 3: she's single. Well, they love Susie now, but it was
- 6:03Speaker 3: always like why not.
- 6:04Speaker 6: I'm like, it's just my friend and I've got work,
- 6:06Speaker 6: you know friends you know that are girls that you
- 6:09Speaker 6: know from my old job and I keep in touch with.
- 6:12Speaker 3: But I don't think we've talked about it.
- 6:14Speaker 6: I don't think Susie has like that many close like
- 6:16Speaker 6: guy friends, you know, like I still get lunch and
- 6:19Speaker 6: you know, hang out with you.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Know, so my girlfriends that I don't do anything with.
- 6:24Speaker 3: But so I don't know.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I think it's it's different, But I think for the
- 6:28Speaker 6: amount of time that you and I had spent together.
- 6:30Speaker 3: It probably would be far fetched to not have some
- 6:33Speaker 3: sort of attraction because those are friends.
- 6:34Speaker 6: There's like we keep in touch, you know, we don't
- 6:36Speaker 6: see each other all the time, Like she lives in
- 6:38Speaker 6: Germany now, you know, and so it's like we'll FaceTime
- 6:40Speaker 6: or call every now and then. But Susan and I
- 6:42Speaker 6: were spending more days than not together, So I think
- 6:45Speaker 6: it was kind of just naturally, and you know, inevitably
- 6:49Speaker 6: we were either going to form that connection or one
- 6:51Speaker 6: of us are going to be in a relationship, and
- 6:53Speaker 6: that our dynamic was gonna have to change.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it would be very weird if either
- 6:59Speaker 4: one of us were spending that much time together and
- 7:02Speaker 4: either one of us ended up in a relationship, Like
- 7:04Speaker 4: I wouldn't be comfortable if my boyfriend was spending that
- 7:08Speaker 4: much time with a woman personally. And I also think
- 7:11Speaker 4: that there's like a like, at this point in my
- 7:14Speaker 4: life I'm seeking I'm actually not even seeking friendships. I
- 7:19Speaker 4: feel like I have so many amazing friends from child,
- 7:22Speaker 4: from college, from my different workplaces, and now moving to
- 7:26Speaker 4: LA I feel like I have a really great group
- 7:27Speaker 4: of girls that I've been able to make friends with.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I'm not like seeking male friendships at this point in
- 7:34Speaker 4: my life, and it actually is so weird that we
- 7:36Speaker 4: happened to become friends. The guys were kind of like
- 7:41Speaker 4: my bachelor connection in LA. Like I knew Justin from
- 7:45Speaker 4: the East Coast. I'd worked on a video project with him,
- 7:48Speaker 4: and we both happened to move to LA at the
- 7:50Speaker 4: same time. I knew Rodney and Nate from Clayton when
- 7:53Speaker 4: I was dating him, so they were all good friends.
- 7:56Speaker 4: And Rodney invited me to Easter at his mom's house
- 7:59Speaker 4: in California because I was out there alone, didn't have
- 8:02Speaker 4: anywhere to go, and so I mean I just kind
- 8:04Speaker 4: of ended up like in the dynamic with them, and somehow,
- 8:08Speaker 4: you know, we made content together, we had fun together.
- 8:10Speaker 5: They all were like very kind to me.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Like I remember thinking, I was like, Wow, I feel
- 8:14Speaker 4: like really grateful that I have people in LA who
- 8:16Speaker 4: are making an effort to like help me feel welcomed
- 8:19Speaker 4: and at home. And they were like truly just being
- 8:22Speaker 4: kind to me. And I knew them through different ways,
- 8:24Speaker 4: but they were kind of like my bachelor people out
- 8:27Speaker 4: in LA, and so I wasn't like seeking those friendships,
- 8:30Speaker 4: but I happened, they happened to welcome me in, and
- 8:33Speaker 4: nobody ever tried dating me from that whole.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Group, Like nobody ever.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I think we just all had a good thing going basically,
- 8:40Speaker 4: and it was like, you know, friends with their girlfriends
- 8:43Speaker 4: and you know, I dated a guy and they all
- 8:46Speaker 4: met him over the summer and stuff like that.
- 8:48Speaker 5: So yeah, I don't know's it would be.
- 8:51Speaker 4: We weren't as close as when I was dating that guy, obviously.
- 8:53Speaker 3: But and it did get interesting.
- 8:56Speaker 6: And this is before we even I don't know at
- 8:58Speaker 6: what point you thought about maybe something there. But when
- 9:01Speaker 6: we were the in Vegas, I was like loosely talking
- 9:06Speaker 6: to somebody kind of ish, and this particular person like
- 9:13Speaker 6: was not too keen on the amount of time I
- 9:15Speaker 6: spent with Susie and like because we were making like
- 9:18Speaker 6: funny videos and stuff like that, and it was like, okay,
- 9:21Speaker 6: let me take a step back, like I it's Susie,
- 9:23Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Like we hang out as
- 9:24Speaker 6: my friend, We hang all the time. And then we
- 9:25Speaker 6: had a discussion like Okay, this probably would need to
- 9:28Speaker 6: the dynamic would need to change if one.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Of us were to date.
- 9:33Speaker 4: And I feel like I like that at that point,
- 9:35Speaker 4: I hadn't met her. I never didn't even really know
- 9:37Speaker 4: about it. You just were dat like casually dating somebody,
- 9:40Speaker 4: and that was the first time I had heard about it.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I was like I remember thinking, I was like, no,
- 9:43Speaker 4: I'd be pissed, Like I would not be I'm not pissed,
- 9:46Speaker 4: but I'm like, I wouldn't be comfortable like dating a
- 9:48Speaker 4: guy that had a friendship like this, Yeah, especially because
- 9:53Speaker 4: in the back.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Of the head, I'm like, because you're hot and I
- 9:56Speaker 5: want to.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Make out with you.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Obviously, I've been married for two years. I have girls
- 10:12Speaker 2: in my life who I've been friends with since childhood,
- 10:15Speaker 2: you know. There most of them are now married or
- 10:17Speaker 2: in a relationship. Like it would not like my wife,
- 10:21Speaker 2: and then it would not be weird for me to
- 10:23Speaker 2: text them be like hey, how's life, Like how's the kids, Like,
- 10:26Speaker 2: how's what's going on? Like we haven't talked in six months.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I think the difference would be the amount of time,
- 10:31Speaker 2: like if we were then like hey, Jess, I'm going
- 10:34Speaker 2: over their house tonight to watch a movie like that
- 10:37Speaker 2: just feels weird, Like I don't know anybody in my
- 10:40Speaker 2: life that's doing that without like getting weird. At some
- 10:43Speaker 2: point there is that like lack of like it's just
- 10:47Speaker 2: you know, that's not the person that like is it's.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Not appropriate appropriated.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it would push boundaries would be weird.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So that's where when I was with Ashiel was like,
- 10:56Speaker 2: if they're spending this much time together and they're like
- 10:58Speaker 2: making these videos and they're sitting and like have popcorn
- 11:00Speaker 2: on the couch, I guess some point you have to
- 11:01Speaker 2: look at him and be like, Okay, what are we
- 11:03Speaker 2: doing here. We're gonna be friends forever or it's this
- 11:05Speaker 2: friendship at some point gonna have to because we're gonna
- 11:07Speaker 2: move forward without each other into other relationships.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I want to start.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Then, when the moment became that you started to talk
- 11:15Speaker 2: about maybe trying this out romantically, I believe I've read
- 11:21Speaker 2: or heard that you you knew that, Hey, I'm starting
- 11:24Speaker 2: to develop feelings, right, Susie.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Like, first, yeah, I think that there.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I think I started to feel it, like probably a
- 11:30Speaker 4: couple of weeks before you had we had the conversation.
- 11:34Speaker 4: We had like flirted around with the idea, like I
- 11:38Speaker 4: think we were becoming more flirty, and I was like.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I remember, I don't know exactly what happened, but we said.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Something over text we'd been drinking, and then we never
- 11:49Speaker 4: talked about it for like two weeks. I went back
- 11:51Speaker 4: to the East Coast and it was like then we
- 11:53Speaker 4: were back in California for a week, and I remember
- 11:55Speaker 4: being like, well, if he really felt that way then,
- 11:57Speaker 4: like or whatever. I remember just thinking like that it
- 12:00Speaker 4: was like really flirty, and then it was like, Okay, well,
- 12:03Speaker 4: like nothing happened, So it had been like a couple
- 12:05Speaker 4: of weeks since the kind of like flirtiness had happened
- 12:07Speaker 4: or whatever, and I was like, well, you know what,
- 12:09Speaker 4: like we have such a good dynamic. We essentially are
- 12:12Speaker 4: kind of like co workers at this point, like we
- 12:14Speaker 4: make we do so much.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Of our content and work together.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I was like, I don't want to mess anything up,
- 12:19Speaker 4: and I genuinely appreciate his friendship. Yes, it would have
- 12:22Speaker 4: to change if I like dated somebody else, but I
- 12:25Speaker 4: genuinely appreciated him as a human.
- 12:28Speaker 5: And so yeah, I think I kind of was feeling that.
- 12:32Speaker 4: And then the night that it all happened, I guess
- 12:35Speaker 4: you'd been feeling it too, but we just hadn't had
- 12:38Speaker 4: an opportunity to talk about it until that night.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Yeah, the texting thing. I feel like I was kind
- 12:43Speaker 6: of in a similar boat where I was like, all right,
- 12:45Speaker 6: we were like kind of drinking.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I was like, I don't want to like resurface it
- 12:48Speaker 3: if it.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Was like like they were just yeah, yeah, I was.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Just playing because we were we did have such a joking,
- 12:54Speaker 6: flirty dynamic. It was like, all right, at what point
- 12:58Speaker 6: are we like joking or not joking?
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 6: So I think there was just like a couple of
- 13:01Speaker 6: weeks of hesitation on both ends to like kind of
- 13:04Speaker 6: dive into it and see like if it was legitimate
- 13:06Speaker 6: or not, and.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Then justin bought some Twizzlers.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Changed Yeah, okay, I bought the Twizzlers. Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 3: So we had been Yeah, so we had been in
- 13:21Speaker 3: Vegas for something.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Then we were at this restaurant opening and it was
- 13:26Speaker 6: a restaurant called has Salon, and they just like it's
- 13:28Speaker 6: like it's like.
- 13:29Speaker 3: A wild dynamic they have in there where they're just
- 13:32Speaker 3: like throwing meat around and like literally making dishes on
- 13:35Speaker 3: the counter. It's like very un sanitary when you think
- 13:38Speaker 3: about it. I'm like, this looks great, this feel looks great,
- 13:41Speaker 3: but like I might have to stomach, might be doing
- 13:44Speaker 3: cars a second, it was.
- 13:46Speaker 6: Wild, like guys are coming in hack saws, like banging
- 13:49Speaker 6: on drums and just like like chopping up chickens in
- 13:52Speaker 6: like the middle of the store.
- 13:53Speaker 3: It's weird. So anyway, I like, look behind.
- 13:56Speaker 6: I got to look over and see she's like in
- 13:58Speaker 6: the kitchen with the chefs, like making strawberry shortcake.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I'm like, what the hell is going on?
- 14:04Speaker 6: And so she pulls out this strawberry and she was like,
- 14:07Speaker 6: should we Lady in the trampet?
- 14:08Speaker 3: And I was like, I'm down.
- 14:13Speaker 2: This is this is the first like are you talking
- 14:16Speaker 2: about the first time that like.
- 14:17Speaker 3: This is we were still friends, were still friends at
- 14:19Speaker 3: this point. Yeah, but we did.
- 14:21Speaker 4: I didn't drink a lot of tequila that night, like
- 14:22Speaker 4: I was. I was on a countertop, several countertops that night.
- 14:25Speaker 3: It's a rare form.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah it was.
- 14:27Speaker 3: It was fun. It was a great time.
- 14:29Speaker 4: And so I suggested lady in the tramping lady and.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Yeah, So then we did it.
- 14:34Speaker 6: And then that's the you know, Susie's first taste of
- 14:38Speaker 6: you know what this could be like.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So she was like, should we do it again? I said.
- 14:44Speaker 5: No, no, no, we missed it on camera.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Remember we filmed it filmed it and it was funny,
- 14:49Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, I'm like, cut out our faces.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And give us the details of how this actually is
- 14:53Speaker 2: a strawberry strawberry.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And there's a video, there's a strawberry.
- 14:57Speaker 6: And I was kind of like, is she like try
- 15:00Speaker 6: to touch my lips or are we gonna like it was
- 15:02Speaker 6: like a kind of a test.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I think we were both in our heads like wait
- 15:05Speaker 3: a minute. So then.
- 15:08Speaker 6: So then fast forward to a couple weeks later when
- 15:10Speaker 6: we're back in La and we went to seven to
- 15:13Speaker 6: eleven and we got some twizzlers and we're waiting for
- 15:16Speaker 6: an uber.
- 15:17Speaker 3: So I was like, should we leading the trumpet?
- 15:20Speaker 4: And I wasn't as tipsy that night? Run it back
- 15:26Speaker 4: and I was like and that's when I was like no.
- 15:29Speaker 4: I was like justin. I was like, we can't do
- 15:31Speaker 4: that unless you're serious, and he was like like he
- 15:34Speaker 4: was just being funny whatever, and.
- 15:36Speaker 3: So then it was a different tone.
- 15:37Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, I.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Was like, no, we can't just like leading the tramp
- 15:40Speaker 4: our food when we're tipsy, you know what I mean.
- 15:45Speaker 4: But I don't know exactly the dynamic, but it was
- 15:47Speaker 4: basically we were I was basically like we can't cross
- 15:50Speaker 4: that boundary unless we're like crossing that boundary and like
- 15:53Speaker 4: making a decision to And then the uber comes and
- 15:55Speaker 4: We've got to twenty minute drive back and I'm like
- 15:58Speaker 4: and so we're just sitting in the uber like silent,
- 16:00Speaker 4: and Justin's like, we'll talk when we get back to
- 16:02Speaker 4: my house, and I was like okay.
- 16:04Speaker 5: And then we got back to Justin's.
- 16:06Speaker 4: House and we sat on his couch and we like
- 16:11Speaker 4: had a really honest conversation and you were just like
- 16:13Speaker 4: told me how you felt about me and that you
- 16:15Speaker 4: like think there's potential for more, but you didn't want
- 16:18Speaker 4: to like intrude or make me uncomfortable or make this
- 16:21Speaker 4: a weird dynamic and you respect me, and you're like,
- 16:24Speaker 4: even if you don't feel the same way, like, I
- 16:26Speaker 4: just want you to know I value you and like
- 16:28Speaker 4: want you as a friend in my life no matter what.
- 16:30Speaker 5: And I was like, no, let's make out.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Your response.
- 16:35Speaker 5: No, I was like I'm scared.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I literally was like I know he was like.
- 16:39Speaker 5: At one way, we were like what do we do now?
- 16:40Speaker 5: Like do we kid?
- 16:41Speaker 6: Yeah, we talked about it, and then we were like
- 16:43Speaker 6: we're on the same page.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Like, well now yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 4: I literally was like, I'm so scared. I was like,
- 16:48Speaker 4: I'm so nervous. I was like, yeah, peaking through one eye.
- 16:53Speaker 2: So the I mean, this is wild, this is this
- 16:55Speaker 2: is so interesting, And I would love then anybody else
- 17:00Speaker 2: listening to this who might be in a similar situation.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Like I'm imagining that there's a lot of nerves and
- 17:06Speaker 3: there's a lot to be lost. Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Right, you were saying, I value you as a friend,
- 17:10Speaker 2: but like your friendship would never look the same if you, Susie,
- 17:13Speaker 2: were like, you know what, justin like we are just friends,
- 17:16Speaker 2: and like it'd be weird.
- 17:18Speaker 3: It would it would change.
- 17:19Speaker 2: You could still hang out and you might still have fun,
- 17:21Speaker 2: you could figure out how to but it would be different.
- 17:24Speaker 2: You're not sitting on opposite ends of the couch. You'd
- 17:26Speaker 2: probably be in your head at some point be like
- 17:27Speaker 2: he really wants to kiss me? Yeah, Like it would
- 17:30Speaker 2: have changed so that it takes a lot for the
- 17:32Speaker 2: both of you to like walk into that conversation. And
- 17:36Speaker 2: so anybody out there listening who's in a similar situation
- 17:39Speaker 2: right now, what advice would you have for them, or
- 17:41Speaker 2: like what words of encouragement could you have for them?
- 17:44Speaker 2: As they might be getting ready or trying to get
- 17:47Speaker 2: ready to start to tell their friend, Hey, I think
- 17:50Speaker 2: I'm actually into you.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Well, i'd say for starters, if you're spending as much
- 17:56Speaker 6: time as Susie and I spent together, there's probably a
- 17:57Speaker 6: good chance for success right there, if you take that
- 18:00Speaker 6: leap of faith. But I mean, I I think, and
- 18:05Speaker 6: I'm just gonna address this from my approach. You know,
- 18:09Speaker 6: the way I looked at it is, you know how
- 18:11Speaker 6: much I value Tuesday as a person and our friendship
- 18:13Speaker 6: and our dynamic, and you know, this is all thoughts
- 18:16Speaker 6: that are going through my head before I.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Even kind of articulated it to Susie.
- 18:18Speaker 6: But I was like, you know, these this is kind
- 18:20Speaker 6: of the foundation of what I would want my relationship
- 18:22Speaker 6: to be built on.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I want to have somebody that's like a best friend.
- 18:25Speaker 6: You know that we have so much fun with and
- 18:26Speaker 6: we can just converse on so many different levels, and
- 18:29Speaker 6: the dynamic that we had was great and what I
- 18:30Speaker 6: would want in a relationship. So I'm like, Okay, on paper,
- 18:33Speaker 6: this is great.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I don't know if she feels the same way, and
- 18:35Speaker 3: so I I don't know.
- 18:36Speaker 6: I was kind of just like feeling it out a
- 18:38Speaker 6: little bit, and I think at a certain point, for
- 18:41Speaker 6: lack of better words, you have to kind of just
- 18:43Speaker 6: shoot that shot and address it in a way where
- 18:46Speaker 6: you make that person comfortable, like, hey, if you don't
- 18:48Speaker 6: feel the same way, it's totally fine, not weird at all.
- 18:51Speaker 6: But have you ever thought about you know, I don't
- 18:54Speaker 6: know that I would go in like, hey, like, I
- 18:55Speaker 6: like you, what do you think? I think it's you
- 18:58Speaker 6: just need to have a mature conversation and say, hey,
- 19:00Speaker 6: you know I would. I would assume that that person
- 19:03Speaker 6: knows where the other is in their dating life, and
- 19:05Speaker 6: you know what they may be looking for. I knew
- 19:07Speaker 6: what Susie was looking for. I knew what she was
- 19:09Speaker 6: all about. You know, she's not just like a She's
- 19:11Speaker 6: a very serious person when it comes to dating, very intentional.
- 19:15Speaker 6: And so I went into the conversation knowing that about
- 19:18Speaker 6: her and coming from the sample of like, hey, I
- 19:20Speaker 6: kind of know what you're looking for.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Here's where my head's at. What are your thoughts?
- 19:25Speaker 6: And I think we both were like, hey, if this
- 19:29Speaker 6: doesn't work, like no hard feel like it's all good.
- 19:31Speaker 6: But I think this is a super long winded way
- 19:33Speaker 6: of saying I think you just have to know that person,
- 19:36Speaker 6: know how to address a conversation and take the chance,
- 19:40Speaker 6: because what's on the other side of that You have
- 19:43Speaker 6: a friend that could get scooped up by somebody else.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Your dynam is going to change anyway, so why not
- 19:49Speaker 6: go for what you want.
- 19:52Speaker 4: That's a good point because the dynamic would have had
- 19:55Speaker 4: to change eventually. So yeah, it's like either if you
- 20:01Speaker 4: if you feel that way, like, shoot your shot respectfully
- 20:04Speaker 4: and understand that the dynamic will probably change after that,
- 20:08Speaker 4: whether it's good or bad.
- 20:09Speaker 5: But it's going to change anyways if you're that close,
- 20:11Speaker 5: like the.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Way we were, And I just don't like to live
- 20:14Speaker 6: my life with as cliche as it is with regret.
- 20:18Speaker 6: You know, I'm all in you the same way. I'm
- 20:19Speaker 6: all about taking calculated risks. You know, this wasn't like,
- 20:23Speaker 6: this wasn't a Steph Curry logo three point, you know
- 20:25Speaker 6: what I mean? This was I was. I was in
- 20:27Speaker 6: the arc, you know what I mean. I knew that
- 20:29Speaker 6: I don't know, I knew that you had weighed the risk.
- 20:32Speaker 6: There's a good change exactly. I had waded out and
- 20:35Speaker 6: I was like, okay, well, you know when we were
- 20:38Speaker 6: early on friends, I met the you know guy she
- 20:40Speaker 6: was dating and it wasn't weird, and you know, I
- 20:42Speaker 6: was like, oh cool, But I knew at this point
- 20:44Speaker 6: I was like, Okay, if I don't go for it
- 20:46Speaker 6: and she dates somebody else, I probably I would feel
- 20:47Speaker 6: some type of way, especially knowing that our dynamic is
- 20:49Speaker 6: going to change. So if that person you know is
- 20:52Speaker 6: in a similar boat and it's somebody you don't want
- 20:54Speaker 6: to lose in your life and you don't want to
- 20:57Speaker 6: have that regret you have.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I think it's pretty clear that you have to take
- 21:00Speaker 3: that shot.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I'm now intrigued with what's kind of next? So, like,
- 21:14Speaker 2: what what does your relationship look like now? Does it
- 21:17Speaker 2: still have the elements of fun that it had as
- 21:21Speaker 2: just friends? Yes, I guess that's my first question, Like
- 21:26Speaker 2: does you does your romantic relationship look similar to what
- 21:29Speaker 2: your friendship looked like?
- 21:31Speaker 5: I think so? I think it.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Uh. I mean, we laugh so freaking much, and we
- 21:37Speaker 4: were laughing constantly as friends. But I think there's this
- 21:42Speaker 4: moment when we started dating and I used to do weird.
- 21:47Speaker 4: So if I remember when I was walking across the
- 21:49Speaker 4: street and I was like walking the wattle, I was
- 21:51Speaker 4: like waddling and at the time, it was like I
- 21:53Speaker 4: didn't care if Justin thought I was attractive, Like it
- 21:54Speaker 4: was probably the most unattractive thing I could have done,
- 21:57Speaker 4: but in my brain it was really funny, and Justin
- 21:59Speaker 4: was like cry laughing, like we would cry laugh. But
- 22:02Speaker 4: I'm like, I did not care about like being at
- 22:05Speaker 4: attractive to him because we weren't dating and we didn't
- 22:08Speaker 4: start the relationship in a romantic way. So a lot
- 22:11Speaker 4: of the things that I do I consider to be
- 22:13Speaker 4: probably very unattractive often. But I remember saying to you,
- 22:17Speaker 4: I was like, I'm kind of like like shy almost
- 22:20Speaker 4: to like do some of the things that I used
- 22:21Speaker 4: to do, and you were like, no, you literally can't
- 22:24Speaker 4: take Like That's why I like you so much, because
- 22:27Speaker 4: like we laugh so much, we have so much fun together,
- 22:30Speaker 4: and that meant that actually meant so much to me.
- 22:32Speaker 4: It was really early on in dating because I like, wow,
- 22:34Speaker 4: he really does like care, like really does care and
- 22:38Speaker 4: like love me for me kind of a thing, like
- 22:40Speaker 4: I really feel like you appreciate me and all that
- 22:44Speaker 4: I am and you knew me for all that I was,
- 22:46Speaker 4: and I didn't put on like a pretty front for
- 22:49Speaker 4: the entirety of our first year knowing each other. So
- 22:53Speaker 4: we definitely still have like a really fun, flirty, ridiculous
- 22:58Speaker 4: and I think we have a ridiculous dynamic doing most
- 23:01Speaker 4: insane stuff.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It's probably too comfortable. Yeah that's good.
- 23:05Speaker 6: But that's why it was such a seamless transition because
- 23:07Speaker 6: we weren't trying to impress each other and we have.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Friends, so it was like you saw the good man.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Yeah, So then when we started dating, I was like, well,
- 23:15Speaker 6: you know what I mean. So we're like, we're super comfortable.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I mean that's actually huge, right, like being married, like
- 23:22Speaker 2: you have you're living with somebody, like you're sharing a
- 23:25Speaker 2: life with somebody. Being comfortable, there's still those moments, right
- 23:28Speaker 2: like Jess and I are going to date night and
- 23:30Speaker 2: we both like take a shower, clean up, but on
- 23:32Speaker 2: nicer clothes, Like you know, there's still some mystery that
- 23:35Speaker 2: we try to keep alive in our relationship, like you know,
- 23:38Speaker 2: just because we're in this thing for the long while.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Like, sure, humans are weird.
- 23:42Speaker 2: You can throw somebody off pretty quick, but the like
- 23:46Speaker 2: comfort of it is huge.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, just a.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Few more questions for you. You start out as friends,
- 23:52Speaker 2: you were great friends. There was no romantic connection at
- 23:56Speaker 2: the beginning. Now that you've been in a romantic relationship,
- 23:58Speaker 2: it's been how long actually that you like, since you've
- 24:00Speaker 2: started making out October sixth.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah, sometimes it's like a little foggy.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So it's you know, we're four or five months into this,
- 24:14Speaker 2: have you had any relationship now arguments like yeah, yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 6: We and I don't mean that's like we and and
- 24:21Speaker 6: that's Kinna, I was gonna answer your previous question with it,
- 24:23Speaker 6: like there has been a learning curve as well, because
- 24:27Speaker 6: when we were friends, we never thought about anything.
- 24:30Speaker 3: It's like, there's we have no stake in the games,
- 24:32Speaker 3: like we're friends, you know what I mean, We only saw.
- 24:36Speaker 6: I'm like, I don't care, right, But once we started dating,
- 24:39Speaker 6: we we already knew a lot about each other, but
- 24:42Speaker 6: we were learning other sides of that person. And I
- 24:45Speaker 6: think it's been really important how we communicate and just learning, Okay,
- 24:50Speaker 6: why do certain things like how is your past affected?
- 24:54Speaker 6: And you know, encourage how you behave and treat different
- 24:58Speaker 6: situations and respond to certain things and vice versa, and
- 25:02Speaker 6: just learning about each other's upbringing and past relationships and
- 25:06Speaker 6: just how each other work has been big and yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 6: so there has been a learning curve, but I think
- 25:13Speaker 6: we're unfortunate for the way that Susie communicates, and I
- 25:17Speaker 6: think the respect and grace that we give each other
- 25:20Speaker 6: and just knowing that we're both willing and wanting to
- 25:23Speaker 6: make it work, you know, has been has been huge.
- 25:25Speaker 6: I haven't really had somebody that's been able to communicate
- 25:28Speaker 6: as effectively and rationally as Susie, So it's been it's
- 25:33Speaker 6: been good.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Wow, that's so nice to hear, because it knows anything.
- 25:35Speaker 4: I'm very irrational and crazy.
- 25:39Speaker 6: I think, I think anybody like I think. I think
- 25:42Speaker 6: a lot of people can kind of be stuck in
- 25:44Speaker 6: their own ways. But I think the good thing about
- 25:46Speaker 6: Susie like because I can be stuck in my ways
- 25:47Speaker 6: and Susie could also be stuck in her ways when
- 25:49Speaker 6: you're so used to you know, reacting and respond to
- 25:52Speaker 6: certain situations. But I think both of us have a
- 25:55Speaker 6: willingness and you know, desire to want to be better
- 25:59Speaker 6: for the person, so we're both super open to like, Okay,
- 26:04Speaker 6: how would you like me to respond in X y
- 26:06Speaker 6: Z situation?
- 26:06Speaker 3: Here's what I need from you? Right?
- 26:08Speaker 6: And it's not like I have dated people where it's
- 26:10Speaker 6: like no, my like, this is just how I am,
- 26:11Speaker 6: and I never want to date somebody that's like, well
- 26:13Speaker 6: this is how I am taken or leave it.
- 26:14Speaker 3: It's like okay to a degree, like yes, you should
- 26:17Speaker 3: be you. That's what I'm love about you.
- 26:19Speaker 6: But I'd also would love to work together to continue
- 26:22Speaker 6: to charge like a partnership version of ourselves, to work
- 26:24Speaker 6: together as a team, right, And so I think we
- 26:26Speaker 6: both have that willingness and desire to want to be
- 26:28Speaker 6: better for the other person and improve upon ourselves, and
- 26:31Speaker 6: we both know we have shortcomings.
- 26:33Speaker 4: And I feel like I'm so impressed with just the
- 26:37Speaker 4: things that I've communicated to you or have been like
- 26:39Speaker 4: like I think I am I'm very laid back in life,
- 26:43Speaker 4: but when it's a relationship, I have very high expectations,
- 26:47Speaker 4: which I feel like every not every, but a lot
- 26:50Speaker 4: of relationship. Like gurus say that if you lower your
- 26:53Speaker 4: expectations in life in general, you're less You're like your
- 26:56Speaker 4: happiness levels go up, and you're like less inclined to
- 26:59Speaker 4: be disappointed in your part partners. And it's like it's
- 27:01Speaker 4: not meant to be like, oh, have no expectations for
- 27:02Speaker 4: your partners, But I'm like I've always had really high
- 27:05Speaker 4: expectations for the people I date, like I just have.
- 27:08Speaker 4: I just believe that I believe I deserve like a
- 27:11Speaker 4: really good human being, and Justin is that.
- 27:14Speaker 5: But I think that I can be.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Really like like assume people know how to be the
- 27:22Speaker 4: person I need them to be, and I've had to
- 27:25Speaker 4: work on that. And I think a really interesting dynamic
- 27:27Speaker 4: to this is that I'm such an avoidant and maybe
- 27:31Speaker 4: you are too, I don't know, I don't know exactly,
- 27:33Speaker 4: but previously in relationships and in dating, I'm so quick
- 27:36Speaker 4: to be like I'm good, thank you, and like drop
- 27:39Speaker 4: somebody that might actually be a good person, but I'm like,
- 27:42Speaker 4: oh you, that was a big mistake, and I'm like, honestly,
- 27:45Speaker 4: like I don't deserve that, and a lot of times
- 27:48Speaker 4: that's true, and like you have to know your worth
- 27:49Speaker 4: and no one to walk away. And I've gotten really
- 27:51Speaker 4: good at that because I think I dated some not
- 27:53Speaker 4: so nice guys when I was younger, but with Justin,
- 27:57Speaker 4: like I think that there's things where I'm like, dang,
- 27:59Speaker 4: like I have a year of solid friendship, knowing his character,
- 28:03Speaker 4: like knowing who he really is. That some of the
- 28:06Speaker 4: arguments like that I really look back and I'm like,
- 28:10Speaker 4: I probably if it were anybody else would have been
- 28:12Speaker 4: like bye, even though it was nothing that you did.
- 28:15Speaker 4: It's just that that's how I was, Like I was.
- 28:16Speaker 4: I'm just so stubborn, I'm so comfortable with myself and everything.
- 28:19Speaker 4: But I'm like, I just we have so much bested
- 28:22Speaker 4: as like friends, that I really believe I know his
- 28:25Speaker 4: character and I've seen how he's like even going from
- 28:29Speaker 4: friends to dating, how he's like evolved and like kind
- 28:33Speaker 4: of like risen to the occasion. I guess you would say, like,
- 28:36Speaker 4: I'm as somebody with really high expectations, and I know
- 28:39Speaker 4: that's not always good in relationships, really high expectations. I'm
- 28:42Speaker 4: like constantly impressed with how even if I even if
- 28:46Speaker 4: you didn't know before, if I say it, like he
- 28:49Speaker 4: always is evolving and just being I needed to be,
- 28:54Speaker 4: which is kind of intense.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Probably.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean I think one of the key
- 29:05Speaker 2: things there is, like you said, in the past, you
- 29:07Speaker 2: would have been more willing to walk away, but there's
- 29:08Speaker 2: something special here where you're like, no, I know who
- 29:10Speaker 2: he is. I don't want to walk away, Like I
- 29:12Speaker 2: don't want to just drop this and move on I
- 29:14Speaker 2: think that's really a beautiful thing.
- 29:16Speaker 4: M hm.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I know I speak on behalf of all Bachelor fans,
- 29:21Speaker 2: and probably now just people who have started following you
- 29:23Speaker 2: guys because you put out hilarious stuff on social media
- 29:26Speaker 2: that have never watched the show.
- 29:28Speaker 3: We're very excited for you, guys. I mean and that.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I don't say that to like put unneeded to runnecessary pressure.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I just think it's a cool thing when two we
- 29:36Speaker 2: can see a story of if nothing else. So I
- 29:39Speaker 2: said this to my wife, I'll tell you this on
- 29:40Speaker 2: our first phone call. We were doing long distance. I'd
- 29:43Speaker 2: never met her in person. I'd messaged her on Instagram.
- 29:46Speaker 2: We were facetiming, and I made a comment to her
- 29:49Speaker 2: that she still sticks with her to this day. I said,
- 29:51Speaker 2: we've talked for like three hours. I said, if nothing else,
- 29:53Speaker 2: I met a really great friend out of this. She
- 29:57Speaker 2: hung up the phone and said, oh my gosh, I
- 29:59Speaker 2: just zone this dude.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And I was like, no.
- 30:03Speaker 2: What I meant by was like, I think you're great, Like,
- 30:05Speaker 2: no matter what, I think you're great. Yeah, then obviously
- 30:09Speaker 2: we get married. So but I say that to say, hey,
- 30:13Speaker 2: it's just cool to see a story of two people
- 30:14Speaker 2: who are friends try something out. I think it's a
- 30:17Speaker 2: story so many people can relate with, and probably some
- 30:19Speaker 2: people are stuck in right now going I don't know
- 30:21Speaker 2: if I can take that jump because I could lose
- 30:24Speaker 2: so much.
- 30:24Speaker 3: But for you two, you show us that, hey, it's worth.
- 30:27Speaker 4: It, right Yeah, And I think that was part of
- 30:29Speaker 4: why we kept it kind of a secret for so long,
- 30:31Speaker 4: is that we were like, if this isn't the dynamics
- 30:35Speaker 4: don't work, then we can walk away, and like, we
- 30:38Speaker 4: don't have to make this a huge deal.
- 30:39Speaker 5: We don't have to ruin our friend group or whatever.
- 30:40Speaker 4: But but yeah, that is a good little friend to
- 30:45Speaker 4: lover's trope.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Let's go.
