- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the garage.
- 0:30Not the chicken coop because it's cold and I'm freezing my
- 0:33butt off. So I haven't acclimated yet to
- 0:36the cold weather that we're about to be in for apparently a
- 0:39couple weeks. So we're in the garage this
- 0:42morning and the girls aren't even up yet.
- 0:44So today I want to talk to you about something.
- 0:47A game that I've been playing with myself and that I am using
- 0:52today is an example for you. For gratitude is our last day of
- 0:56gratitude is upon us for the week.
- 0:58And this, this little game that I came up with, I, I like to
- 1:02think of it as the memory game, but I pick specific thoughts of
- 1:07a person, a subject, a place. And then I dive back in and
- 1:11think, all right, let me dig up some memories because you know,
- 1:15we have access to all of them and we can dive into them now.
- 1:19Unless, of course, there is something wrong and you have
- 1:21memory loss for a physical reason.
- 1:24You can play this game. That's the that's the part of
- 1:27this. That's so cool.
- 1:27We all have these memories, but sometimes because of how things
- 1:31went down, we compartmentalize them.
- 1:34We push them away, we put them away.
- 1:36But, and some of them aren't pleasant and some of them are
- 1:39fantastic, but when you are completely neutral about things,
- 1:43which is what we want, you know, we want that Zen driver driving
- 1:47our bus at this point when we're playing this game and we just
- 1:50want to go and observe what we think about something.
- 1:54So like I said about a year ago, I started doing this just
- 1:57because I was, I felt like I was forgetting certain things or I
- 2:00wasn't feeling certain things. That is clearly because that's
- 2:04how I kind of go through memories as I feel them, see
- 2:07them in in that colorful way with my grandmother, who was
- 2:11very near and dear to my heart. And I was and I had, you know, I
- 2:16lost her when my daughter was 4. So I, I kind of am like, I
- 2:22don't, I don't like that. So I want to go back and start
- 2:24thinking about things with my Nana and it just, I would just
- 2:29pick a time like Sunday dinner and I would start thinking about
- 2:33it and I would be like who was at Sunday dinner or something?
- 2:36Like let me think about their house because their house was
- 2:39very, very old and it was like a 300 year old house, 2 maybe 250
- 2:45year old house. Now what?
- 2:46I can't remember the exact time it was built, but it was really,
- 2:49really old and it was kind of creepy to me as a kid.
- 2:54And I started remembering and I would go through all right,
- 2:56where were the how did you get to the basement?
- 2:59Where did they keep food? Because I can't remember where
- 3:03there was storage there. And this, this part drove me
- 3:06crazy because I couldn't remember.
- 3:08I could remember the whole kitchen and I was like, yeah,
- 3:10but where did they keep things? Like where was the cupboard?
- 3:13Where was the, I remember where the refrigerator was, but I
- 3:17couldn't remember like where the big cupboard was that they kept
- 3:21things in and they didn't have a ton of cabinets.
- 3:24And so I kept trying to go through this in my head and I I
- 3:28just had no memory of it. And then and all of a sudden, a
- 3:32couple days later, I'm thinking about their house again.
- 3:35And there was this small little room off the living room.
- 3:38And I remember, ah, wait, she had shelves in there.
- 3:41That's right. So it made me feel connected
- 3:44again. And I kept playing this little
- 3:46game of walking around their house or sitting there at Sunday
- 3:50dinner or going to church with her on Saturday nights and or
- 3:55going to church with my grandfather on Sunday mornings.
- 3:58They went to two different churches, two different
- 4:01religions, and I was, you know, with both of them a lot.
- 4:05So it was one of those really big eye opening experiences for
- 4:11me to start doing this because it's starting to shift my
- 4:14awareness of how much we carry around with us.
- 4:18And we just really, really, really have access to some very
- 4:22cool things to pull up to think, wow, I was like 3.
- 4:26And I have like specific little dribbles of memory about that.
- 4:32I wonder if I can expand on that.
- 4:34I wonder if I can go back to it now.
- 4:36If these are not pleasant for you, by all means, don't do
- 4:39this. However, if you have, you know,
- 4:42what most people have is a mix of pleasant and unpleasant, a
- 4:46mix of good and bad. And most of us carry that around
- 4:50with us. So it's good to go in and kind
- 4:53of see through that and see what's up.
- 4:55So I'm just putting it out there that I, it was a fun game for
- 4:59me. I wanted to share it with you
- 5:00because it made me feel connected.
- 5:02And I am incredibly grateful for memories because it's made me
- 5:06realize how much my, you know, my, who my grandparents were.
- 5:10And not only that, but how far I've been able to come from the
- 5:15conditions that they were in and the conditions even my parents
- 5:18were in. So it's a good way to make
- 5:21yourself be grateful. It's a good way to make yourself
- 5:25feel gratitude for those of us before us.
- 5:27And it's just an overall hug, at least for me.
- 5:30And yes, I've had, I've gone through and I've had some
- 5:32memories that I'm like, oh, yeah, I don't want to think
- 5:34about that. Or I, I just didn't enjoy that.
- 5:37But it didn't make me stop. So I hope you guys have a
- 5:41blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:44Go get some memories. Bye.
