- 0:05Speaker 1: Buzz Edition, with Sean Callahan right here on Big Red Radio.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Boys?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Okie doke, Sean. It seems to me the key to
- 0:11Speaker 2: the game is pass rush. How do you see it?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's more disruption, too. You're not always going to
- 0:18Speaker 3: get to the quarterback with how fast they get rid
- 0:19Speaker 3: of the football. And just some of the things they're
- 0:21Speaker 3: going to do. But, yeah, Kaminsky, the quarterback for North Dakota,
- 0:27Speaker 3: is a very good veteran quarterback, one of the best
- 0:29Speaker 3: quarterbacks in FCS, number two-ranked offense in FCS overall, 50
- 0:33Speaker 3: points a game. You've got to get him out of
- 0:36Speaker 3: rhythm and disrupt him and just find those opportunities to
- 0:40Speaker 3: get off the field. Those third and twos, third and threes,
- 0:45Speaker 3: those are the tough downs to win. For the most part,
- 0:48Speaker 3: last week Nebraska did win those downs, but that third
- 0:51Speaker 3: quarter obviously they weren't able to get off the field.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Bowling Green last week held the ball for 11 minutes
- 0:57Speaker 3: and 37 seconds of the third quarter. It was a
- 1:00Speaker 3: lot of just little third down, dink and dunk plays
- 1:02Speaker 3: that kept that clock clicking. It didn't allow a lot
- 1:07Speaker 3: of the backups to get in because they just couldn't
- 1:09Speaker 3: get off the field in the third quarter.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That's their best chance to keep Nebraska's offense from hanging
- 1:13Speaker 2: 50 or 60, and that is to not let them
- 1:15Speaker 2: have the football. So they need that controlled passing game,
- 1:18Speaker 2: much like Purdue perfected when Jeff Brom was the coach there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: What about Nebraska's rush defense? Now, it's a little hard
- 1:25Speaker 2: to tell through the first couple games, but your evaluation
- 1:28Speaker 2: of their ability to stop the run.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I thought there was a huge noticeable difference when Owen
- 1:34Speaker 3: Chambliss was back. The communication, just being set, being ready.
- 1:38Speaker 3: It looked cleaner. And Dexter Foster, too, really came into
- 1:42Speaker 3: his own. I mean, when you can blow up a
- 1:44Speaker 3: first-down run play like he did last week for a
- 1:46Speaker 3: seven-yard loss, that's going to win the drive or win
- 1:50Speaker 3: the series for the defense. So I thought those two
- 1:52Speaker 3: linebackers were big. They played so many defensive linemen last week,
- 1:57Speaker 3: it was really hard to... I mean, 20 different defensive
- 1:59Speaker 3: linemen took snaps in the game on Saturday. So they're
- 2:03Speaker 3: really trying to play a lot of these guys early.
- 2:06Speaker 3: But Stoudemire and his limited 15 snaps looked really good
- 2:10Speaker 3: last week. And again, had a very small sample size.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I thought he took a big step forward. We saw
- 2:16Speaker 3: a lot of David Hufkin, the German, on the roster
- 2:20Speaker 3: in his third year. I think he's kind of emerged
- 2:23Speaker 3: into that fourth defensive tackle spot after the top three
- 2:27Speaker 3: of Stoudemire, Whittington, and then Popple.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You can't blame him. He doesn't speak the language. How's
- 2:32Speaker 2: he supposed to be able to pick up the signs
- 2:33Speaker 2: if he's speaking German out there? He's the only one. Okay,
- 2:36Speaker 2: a couple of other things for you, Sean, here on
- 2:38Speaker 2: the Husker Buzz Report at 651 on 1110 KFB. Tomorrow,
- 2:42Speaker 2: college football tomorrow, you're going to be watching, obviously in person,
- 2:46Speaker 2: the Nebraska game. But what do you think will happen
- 2:49Speaker 2: in the Michigan State at Notre Dame game tomorrow?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Well, Notre Dame's a heavy favorite. I mean, they got
- 2:55Speaker 3: a 30-point type favorite going in, so that gets your attention.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I want to see Michigan State's defense and how they
- 3:03Speaker 3: match up in this game. Can they slow them down?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Because I do think Nebraska, you would hope, has an
- 3:09Speaker 3: advantage going in. But yeah, does Pat Fitzgerald's team make
- 3:12Speaker 3: this a game? I mean, no one's expecting them to
- 3:15Speaker 3: be within three touchdowns of Notre Dame. And if they
- 3:19Speaker 3: can make this a fight into the fourth quarter, third quarter,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think it gets your attention going out there for
- 3:25Speaker 3: that game next week.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And if you are the executives at CBS Sports, you're
- 3:30Speaker 2: really ready to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Last week,
- 3:33Speaker 2: they brought the National Eyes to Minnesota. And the loss
- 3:36Speaker 2: to Mississippi State, a blowout loss. And they're doing the
- 3:40Speaker 2: USC-Rutgers game tomorrow. Now that's a picture of college football
- 3:44Speaker 2: at its finest.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah, for whatever reason, the Big Ten didn't put a
- 3:48Speaker 3: good game for Week 3. It's Rutgers and USC. And
- 3:52Speaker 3: I think Purdue and UCLA... or the other conference games
- 3:56Speaker 3: this week. There's just not a good conference game. But
- 4:02Speaker 3: I'm interested if USC traveling all the way east, just
- 4:07Speaker 3: how they play. Because that's going to be kind of
- 4:09Speaker 3: a sleepy East Coast atmosphere. Nobody there. If Lincoln Riley
- 4:15Speaker 3: get that team up for that game.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, nobody will be there. Okay, so your other keys
- 4:19Speaker 2: to the game, we have 30 seconds. Your other keys tomorrow?
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah, just... Keep the rhythm of the offense that we've seen.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I mean, that's a big one. And then, obviously, winning
- 4:29Speaker 3: those third downs, getting it off the field. I think
- 4:32Speaker 3: if you can get Nebraska's offense on the field more
- 4:36Speaker 3: often than not, North Dakota's not going to be able
- 4:38Speaker 3: to slow down Nebraska's offense. You've just got to get
- 4:40Speaker 3: them on the field.
- 4:40Speaker 2: All right. And we've got the Husker Online pregame show
- 4:43Speaker 2: at 6 o'clock tonight. We have a boatload of high
- 4:46Speaker 2: school football games to go to, so you're going to
- 4:48Speaker 2: want to leave it on 11 at 6 o'clock tonight.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Quick question for you guys. Sean, how is North Dakota's
- 4:53Speaker 1: receiver score?
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well, they lost some guys from a year ago.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Who do they have? What's the name of the guy
- 5:00Speaker 1: who's pretty good? Ding, ding.
- 5:04Speaker 3: You just wanted to say that, guys.
- 5:06Speaker 2: No, he wanted to ring the bell. Yeah, that's what
- 5:09Speaker 2: he wanted to do.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Where's our gong?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Whenever he catches a pass, you're going to hear that.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:15Speaker 2: All right, Shano, thanks.
- 5:19Speaker 1: See you at 9 and 6. All right, thanks, guys.
