- Shaun: Welcome back to the reset. I am Shaun Tucker, human performance scientist and authority architect. We're here in the Living Lab documenting the struggle, the science, and the shift for every high performance dad and founder who is ready to bridge the gap between their ambition and their presence. Today, we are diving into what integrity really means so that you can master the men underneath. The performance. I think it was back in 2019 I first heard on a podcast, it was Ed Mylett podcast, he was talking about what integrity really meant to him. And it struck me differently because I never really had heard what even what the word meant, integrity, but The thing that struck me was just how much it related to me in that moment. Integrity is the ability to have your words, your actions, your thoughts, your feelings all happening in the same direction. That is what I define integrity as being. You might have a slightly different meaning for it. But the reason why I have that is because I see everything as you have standards, right? You have a way of being that is different to everyone else's way of being. And when it comes to integrity, this is really your character. This is really your attention to detail. This is really why people come to you and not someone else. And if you really want to be the world's best, become the CEO of your life in whatever way, shape or form that means to you. then look integrity is the thing. It is it just is the thing for you to work on. 'Cause it comes back to every little thing that you do, every little piece that you are, and how you show up. Because I think especially in the male coaching space, the men's coaching space, the place or the the leadership kind of industry as well. Is it always comes back to this factor? How willing you are and what you actually pay attention to. And even the fact of being able to give your a hundred percent presence and just show up in the moment, that's what it really means to be in integrity. And I remember just the other day, I was having a chat with a client and we were talking about how he can lead his team, essentially, and how can he can more effectively lead his team. And I said it always comes back to the same thing. It always comes back to leadership. It's what you're willing to do. Because what you do, and I've noticed this so many times with my daughter, and you if you have kids as well, which I'm sure if you're a a father, of course you have kids, right? If you're listening in. It comes back to your children, your staff, the people around you will mimic your behaviour. Based on what you are doing. We have this thing in our brains called mirror neurons. And even if we can't speak the language, even if we can't even do the task, or you can't even do that kind of dance choreography, or whatever it is, that skill that you have. When we are present, when we are in that moment with that person who's doing it, something activates in us and we're able to do it. This is what our mirror neurons are capable of doing for us. Which is really, really cool. And that's a whole different topic in its own. But in terms of leadership and what this means for you in terms of integrity. I was having this chat with the com or h was having this conversation with the client and I was saying When it comes to how you do everything, is how you do all things. So how you do one thing is how you do all things. Right. And you've probably heard that before. But it really comes back to the amount of attention, focus, and presence you give in each given moment. So I asked him, Do you have someone clean your toilets or do you clean them yourself? How clean is the shop that you're running? Do you have someone come and you know clean it for you or do you go ahead and show everyone that they are empowered to to uphold the standards of the shop as well? Because if the person at the top of the food chain, the guy who's employing everyone, isn't doing any of the work, well, it goes to show that maybe, just maybe, that the employees won't take the lead and step in and do what they need to do, do what's necessary, because what's the incentive? There's no I in team. Having a team really just means that you show them how to do it in the best way possible. And you can go on to argue, probably argue that some of the world's best basketball players, their coaches weren't greater than them. Well, that's exactly true, but the level of integrity that they have when they say they're gonna do something, that's what leads them. That's what drives them. That's what moves them and makes them the world's best. And it's quite interesting when you look at this because Let's just say, you know, one of the shops that you work at is dirty, like the floor is just dirty. Or let's even just say, you know, you're working at McDonald's and you really aim to be world class in whatever you do. You first need to aim to be world class in whatever role you're playing at McDonald's. Right? And that might be that you're the world's best customer service person. a McDonald's, the one that's n no one's ever seen this level before. You're just one hundred percent devoted to becoming world class as a customer service representative or really just a a service person. Maybe it's drive thru, I don't know. Maybe it's just taking orders. But we have this thing that gets in the way when we are in this place, when we're in this state, it doesn't matter what role we do, it doesn't matter what company we work for. It what matters here is the amount of attention, the amount of presence you have. Right. So if the enemy of this is actually habit. So if you've done something over and over and over again, the more robotic, the more Computer AI you sound or seem Which is the exact opposite of what we want. Because for you to be world class, there needs to be an element that is absolutely human. They're still trying their best. They're showing just that they're there. They're not absent. They're present. They haven't done this a million times, which makes them quick. No, they've done this a million times and it's made them More attentive than ever. And that's the difference between being world class at something and really being someone who is great. Because it's having that attention to detail. It's knowing and trusting your body fully through that process that they are very good, that your body is very good at doing that same task, that same repeated task, but it's bringing a level of awareness and attention to it at the same time. Because when you bring that that world class level of attention, that almost telescopic but also microscopic lens, you can see it really, really closely, and you can see it really, really far, it means that people will start paying attention to what you're doing. And getting that attention just means that you have, I guess, the responsibility to show what's possible. And it's both exciting and terrifying at the same time. Because there's a lot of potential anxiety that happens in those moments where your mind starts maybe doubting, but actually that is probably the space that is worthwhile being in. Because if your mind is doubting, it means it's lacking evidence to support that you are the best. Right. My invitation here is lean in, go a little bit deeper, go a little bit more closer and see what comes from it. Because when I was talking with this client, I I said, this comes back to everything that you do. It's not about telling, it's about showing. Because most people learn through behavior. They're not just learning what you're telling them. It doesn't just come through telling them. It comes through behavior and repeating the behavior. And this is why it's so hard for many people, especially I think in the coaching industry, really in anything actually, in the tradespeople industry as well, like if you're a tradesperson, if you're a plumber or mechanic or whatever it is, having integrity means that your shop is also taking care of your own stuff. Right? So don't be the mechanic that doesn't service their car, but then has the world's best service for anyone's car. You need to make sure that your cars are also serviced. And I guess to relate that to the plumber, the plumber who fixes everyone else's pipes needs to make sure that their pipes are being taken care for as well. Either by themselves or by someone else. But for the purpose of what I'm saying here, do it yourself first. Because leadership is d going first. It is doing it first. It is showing what's possible. when you pay absolute attention and you give that level of focus and attention to everyone else. So, integrity. Work on it, it builds character, and it continues to show up in many different ways. People will start paying attention, people will follow you, and they don't even know why they're following you. So use that wisely. Use it with responsibility. Be aware of what kind of I suppose implications it can have 'cause it can feed you negatively too. It can feed you poison if you're unaware of what's in your environment. So if you have found this episode helpful, all I'd ask from you is to share it with one person.
