Latest / Keeping It Relevant / Supplemental: Catching up with Cody - The Tron Series
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Catching Up with Cody.
- 0:03SPEAKER_02: This is the supplemental show that we do here at Keeping Relevant.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: That we have our friend Cody, who hasn't seen a whole lot of things.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: And on this week of Catching Up with Cody, he was able to watch a plethora of things.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: Which include the entire Tron trilogy.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, baby.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: So with that being said, he watched all three.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: So this episode's gonna be a little bit longer than normal.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: So, sit back, relax, and let's hear the breakdown of the guy who just caught up with Tron.
- 0:40SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 0:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, are we going movie by movie and then discuss it?
- 0:43SPEAKER_05: You just want to go through all three right away.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Whatever you want.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Whatever you saw.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, so they start they start off in 1982 was when the first one came out.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Then Tron Legacy, you just hit the table.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: My bad.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Came out in 2010.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Then of course, Tron Ares came out last year in 2025.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: So you you start wherever you could start in the 80s, or you could start now, which one you liked more, which one you liked the least, whatever you want.
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: I mean, we'll just go in order of them since that's gonna probably be easier.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: First one, you've got some super genius.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: I assume that's how they're playing it up at computer programming, which is Jeff Bridges' character.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: He's been what I can only tell is fired from his company, is trying to get the code that he created for this AI program back, eventually breaks into his old company with a couple friends, gets sucked into the grid, fights a bunch of AI computer stuff alongside his actual program, eventually finds the code, gets out, takes back control of the company is probably the short gist of what happens.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Are they are they AI or are they programs?
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Because there is a difference between the two.
- 2:00SPEAKER_05: Tron itself would be AI because that is intelligence.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: The rest of the program, the master program you would probably argue is also AI.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was gonna say the master program, I feel is AI, but I feel like everything else inside of it uh is Tron and the Master Program, for sure, I'd say, are AI.
- 2:22SPEAKER_05: The main, like, henchmen is hard to say because they don't really get into it.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: That's my chair.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: When you hear squeaking, that's my chair.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, everyone.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: So most of them, yeah, it would just be programming, and it obviously you have to make a movie, it's gonna look kind of like it'd be AI, because they have to make decisions, but yeah, at the end of the day, they would just be programs for those ones.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: Uh first one I I get it was the 80s, so I can appreciate what it was doing.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna say, is not good.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: No.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: No.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Did you was it the acting?
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Was it the graphics?
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: The graphics part of it, but again, that one I can look at and be like, okay, I get when it was made, why this was such a big deal.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: Because I get back in the 80s that stuff was unheard of.
- 3:15SPEAKER_05: Obviously, nowadays, doesn't really hold up the suits, especially.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, I love those are so bad.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: See in the exposed wire and conduits.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: That's kind of funny.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: It's not even that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_05: It's they're bulky as hell.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: Like the new ones are at least like sleek and like form fitting.
- 3:35SPEAKER_05: The old ones look like they're in giant padded suits.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Well, especially like Dillinger's suit, the the main bad guy, which is like this giant suit of like what looks like computer medieval armor.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, it's like ridiculous.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love it.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I love everything about it.
- 3:53SPEAKER_05: I think my main complaint, and I'm gonna have the same thing for the second one, is the pacing in one and two is god-awful.
- 4:03SPEAKER_05: How so?
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: It feels like you're moving at the slowest sprint ever.
- 4:10SPEAKER_05: Like it feels like it's not actually accomplishing anything, but all of a sudden you're like three-quarters of the way through the movie.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: That's interesting.
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: What uh what did you like about the first movie?
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: Honestly, not a lot.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: Jeez!
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: They honestly didn't really like the first one.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: But like, obviously, I would if someone's interested, yeah, I'll recommend, like, yes, start with it if you're interested in the Tron series because you have to appreciate what it's set up for when it was made, all that.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: But I mean, storytelling wise, like the story is pretty iffy, it's not really doing much.
- 4:54SPEAKER_05: Obviously, the acting's not great, but it's the 80s, I expected it to be kind of cheesy, so that's whatever.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: But yeah, I mean, I can't really say there was one thing that I like really liked about it.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: What about um I don't know, Alex, you you you talk for a bit.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: I there's nothing much to say.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Like, if he didn't like it, he didn't like it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Like I get what I get why he may not like it.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Because it it's old and like it shows a lot.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it did not age well.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And it was already controversial.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: I think there's another movie that came out around the same timeline.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I cannot remember the name of it, but it had it was kind of going for the same thing Tron was doing.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: I can't remember the name of it, though.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I didn't know they had a name of it.
- 5:43SPEAKER_05: It wasn't made by Disney.
- 5:45SPEAKER_05: Well, was the first one actually Disney or did they just acquired it?
- 5:48SPEAKER_05: No, it's it was Disney.
- 5:50SPEAKER_05: It was Disney from the start.
- 5:51SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 5:52SPEAKER_05: I just know they've acquired so much since like the 2000s, I didn't know if it was actually them or if it was just like it's now one of ours.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: No, and that that's and that was what was so groundbreaking about Tron was that this was a Disney uh property.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: If you had property was a Disney IP, and like they made like games and toys, and like now there's a theme park, right?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: At Disney that's yeah, Tron.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: So, and then of course, delving into the technology and everything at the time, yeah.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: You know, taking 80s technology, and then all of a sudden you have the reclaimer showing up or a recognizer showing up, you're like, whoa.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Uh what did you think about the uh like this is very 80s, so you had Clue, which was created by um Jeff Bridges' character, and then you had uh Tron, who was um created by uh Alan, his best friend.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Um and Alan both created Tron.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: No, Alan was the one that created Tron.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: That was Alan's program because he knew something was going on with Master Control.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And Alan was the one that created Clue.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: In the program, do we ever see Clue?
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: I don't remember.
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: So no, Clue gets killed.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So okay, so that's just report.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: But Clue gets killed.
- 7:10SPEAKER_05: It's been a couple weeks now since I watched it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Clue, uh Jeff Bridges has Clue going to try to get inside the grid, and the recognizers find the tank of Clue, and then they capture him, and then Doinger kills him.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Now, I just want to know what you think about this.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: So, because Jeff Bridges created Clue, of course it was Jeff Bridges playing as Clue.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And then same thing with Alan, who created who created Tron, but now but Tron looks like Alan.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: I wasn't sure how what you thought about all that and how they and how they portrayed what these programs looked like.
- 7:44SPEAKER_05: I mean I think if you're trying to portray a program as a person, it makes sense to make it look like its creator, because otherwise, like, what else would you do?
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: Like if I make a program and I'm expecting it to look like a person, yeah, it's probably gonna look like me because I made it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Would you make it look like you, like a hundred percent, or like would you be like, yeah, I wouldn't mind if uh if mine was a little bigger?
- 8:09SPEAKER_05: I mean, that's fair.
- 8:11SPEAKER_05: I don't know if it'd be a hundred percent, but I get for obviously a movie purpose, like, how else are you gonna it's the same actor for both roles, it's gonna be kind of hard to be that different.
- 8:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_05: Um I think the idea of it looking like its creator, at least generally speaking, makes sense for the idea though.
- 8:30SPEAKER_05: I gotcha.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: So is was it your so you you didn't like the movie.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: But it sounds like it was it was more because of like pacing.
- 8:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm not gonna say it's like a god-awful movie, because obviously I've seen worse.
- 8:41SPEAKER_05: We've done the whole episode without that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: What's is it on your top five?
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_05: It wasn't one I found that enjoyable.
- 8:49SPEAKER_05: It's not like it's a bad movie.
- 8:51SPEAKER_05: I just was kind of bored the whole time.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: That's fair.
- 8:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_05: That's fair.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: I get that.
- 8:56SPEAKER_05: That's what I'm saying with like the pace.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: It feels like you're moving at a sprint because it seems like all of a sudden you're in the end game, but also it felt like nothing happened.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I get that.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: I liked it just because so I saw it for the first time two years ago.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: That's surprising.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: No, you could have seen it a lot sooner.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: No, because Tron Aries was coming out, and I was like, I need to watch the Disney Celebration when they first dropped it, they were doing Tron Aries.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: I need to watch these Tron movies.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And the second I turn it on and it starts in the grid, and you got that giant neon glowing, fuzzy screen.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: Blue.
- 9:37SPEAKER_05: That's the other thing.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: The lighting the way they used it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_05: Obviously, now it's you can see the lines real like tight and stuff.
- 9:46SPEAKER_05: The old one, those colors blow out so bad.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And then like the reclaimers look like the worst 80s video game ever.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: The second I saw any of that, I was like, this was made for me.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I love everything about this.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And that I get.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: I underst I was like right away, I was like, I understand where someone now or younger than me would watch this and be like, what the crap is this?
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: But I'm like the person I am, I was like, this is I live through this every day.
- 10:13SPEAKER_05: Like watching it, I was like, I get it's the 80s.
- 10:16SPEAKER_05: I'm not surprised by any of the graphics, especially for what they were attempting to do.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: Obviously, we know it was groundbreaking at the time, so it's like, you have to take a chance.
- 10:26SPEAKER_05: Does it age?
- 10:28SPEAKER_05: Well, not at all.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: It does not age great as far as looks, but for its time, it did what they wanted it to do.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I really appreciate, and we could probably talk about this by the time we get to like Tron Aries, but I do appreciate by how more technology has advanced uh the visuals of Tron also advanced.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, I think that played well with that.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: And I and I understand that, like, well, of course, like look at Toy Story 5 versus Toy Story 1.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about how they implemented the technology now to complement the grid and in that world to make it look like how it looks now.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I think they did great with that.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: They did.
- 11:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you can see obviously just one to two has a pretty big jump in quality, obviously.
- 11:14SPEAKER_05: I mean, it took almost 30 years, what, 28 years for the second one to come out?
- 11:20SPEAKER_05: 2000.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: 2000.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so 1982 for the first one and then 2010 for the second one.
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: That's 28 years.
- 11:28SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, obviously, 30 years the way tech has progressed since all of us were born has been astonishing.
- 11:34SPEAKER_05: Obviously, if this was when they first started making movies, it wasn't a jump that much, but what it's done since any of us have been alive, yeah, it was gonna have a pretty drastic jump.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Well then and then you have 15 years before Tron Legacy and Tron Ares.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Which I think I I don't want there to be a giant weight between Tron Ares and Tron 4, but I think what they've done has been appropriate for what the storyline is, too.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: So especially a technology-based storyline.
- 12:06SPEAKER_05: There were some things like watching the first one, like, and it kind of carries into the second one, because like what honestly does the company do?
- 12:15SPEAKER_05: I know they're in tech, but they don't ever really explain what they're doing.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: I just think they're in program development.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Like back in the day, that's a tech company.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Program developers.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: But like, what do they do now?
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: I I know they'd they kinda answer that in Aries.
- 12:34SPEAKER_05: Well, but also not really.
- 12:37SPEAKER_05: Like, it's like they dabble with video games, but they're also still doing a lot of other stuff, and I'm like, I am confused as to what we're actually doing.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Well, I understand at Tron Ares, where the main character she was trying to like fix like shortage problems.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And that's cool now, but I'm like, that's not what it that company does, though, because that's just a branch.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: That's true, but yeah, we need to save that until after the second movie.
- 13:04SPEAKER_05: Like I said, it was one, it was a question I had immediately, because like they get into the boardroom and they're talking about stuff, and I was like, I have no idea what this company does.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: I get it's a tech company, but it's a real vague tech company.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: That's fair.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: They just went, technology, and I was like, okay, but like, what are we doing?
- 13:23SPEAKER_05: Are we like AI programming?
- 13:26SPEAKER_05: Are we like computer software?
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Are we like I would assume it was computer software.
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: Video games, because they kind of do video game-ish stuff, but uh Okay, you know what?
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: So I just I just Googled it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, no, we were right.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Uh develops video games, high-end software, and advanced computer systems.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: That just seems like such a wide variety of stuff.
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: Um yes.
- 13:51SPEAKER_05: I assume they left it intentionally vague.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I don't I think that's one of the I think that's a very much an 80s thing where it's like big, big tech corporation.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, what do they do?
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Big tech.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: That's not the story, don't worry about that.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: But like them, like you said, the more they do it, the more you're like, what is this company?
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Tron Legacy.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, moving on.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: 30 years.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Did you did you like it?
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: I liked it more.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: Slight, I guess, spoiler.
- 14:19SPEAKER_05: I think Ares was the best of the three, personally.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I agree with that one, but I I don't disagree.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: I don't disagree with it, and Tron Ares is the one I've watched the most, surprisingly.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: But like Tron Legacy is like so close.
- 14:41SPEAKER_05: I think Legacy's got the same pacing problem the first one has.
- 14:46SPEAKER_05: Like early on, it just feels like they're not really doing anything, but all of a sudden we're halfway done.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: What I like about Tron Are you sure it's the pacing, or is it because you don't like how time's different in the grid versus in the first one, like he gets into it, they do very little of the like training thing, and then all of a sudden we're like going to the master control program, but it didn't feel like we did anything in between.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: I think it was more about the adventure and the journey than it was about doing anything.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Like just anything with that.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: It was just like, well, we're here.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: They lost a friend.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Well, no, because they ex they escaped the um they the first one they escaped the uh the car race.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: The car chase.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: And then after that, it was it was after that it was just a hunt, it was a mouse and rat chase.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: The guy died, Cody.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: The guy died.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: He did.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so uh the pacing.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Was it I mean, because they spent a little more time trying to figure out um Flint's son.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: What's his name?
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Sam.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Sam.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I forgot Sam.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: They spent a lot of time in the beginning being like, okay, here's here's what happened.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Sam was left as a kid uh completely by accident, and now this is who Sam is.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Like, was that the issue in the beginning?
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Like, did you just want to get straight into it?
- 16:20SPEAKER_05: No, the actual start of it, I don't think, was that bad.
- 16:23SPEAKER_05: It was once we get into the grid again where it feels like nothing really happens.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, so it's the grid itself, not leading up to the grid.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, see, I okay.
- 16:34unknown: Great.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I can't.
- 16:39SPEAKER_05: Oh, look at the cool bikes and the cool disc fights, and we get that for all of 20 minutes and then it's done.
- 16:45SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, we could have done more with this.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: I thought you were talking about the pacing part of the fake.
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: Outside the pacing part, I am like, you guys kind of hyped this part up, and then we didn't get much of it, and I'm kind of upset about this.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: I can understand that in a movie because I'm like that sometimes.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: I thought you were talking about like, why the flip are we talking about Sam so much?
- 17:08SPEAKER_05: Let's just let's move on.
- 17:10SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 17:10SPEAKER_05: The start of it, I don't think, was bad because it seemed like before they get into the grid, like it's moving at like a pace where it's like, okay, this makes sense.
- 17:18SPEAKER_05: Like, we're setting up a new character, we're getting backstory, we're figuring out what happened between one and two.
- 17:23SPEAKER_05: Because honestly, at the end of one, I was like, why did we make two?
- 17:26SPEAKER_05: Everything was resolved.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: There's no need for a second movie.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: See, I think that's why I'm confused on why you think the pacing when he gets to the grid and two is it just feels like once he gets to the grid, like, as far as story goes, like, nothing happens.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: No.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: No, because you find out why Flynn was there.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: He's looking for why who sent the message.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then on top of that, like, you find out Flynn got stuck there because Clue, he decided was a perfectionist, and he they had they ended up berthing their own programs.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Like that's a you can figure that part out super quick, and we're still in there with nothing happening.
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: That's what it was.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Because then it turns into an escape plot.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because they do escape.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: No, actually, no, no, no.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: It's not escape.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: They need to well, Sam needs to escape, but they need to stop Clue from going to the real world because they found out Clue found out how to do that.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: No, no, Flynn found out how to do that.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Clue was the one that like was like, I'm gonna steal it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, like the point was it was to stop Clue after he obtained Flynn's disc.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I understand what the point was.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: It just feels like it's not doing any like it feels like it's moving at a snail's pace.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, see, I didn't get that at all.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: I thought it was on a very quick clock.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Because they they even said that, like, once the beam goes out, you're stuck.
- 18:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: That part I get, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: But it just felt like It was just how they translated it?
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think for me, yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's good.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: Interesting.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: I get like what's going on.
- 19:07SPEAKER_05: I get what they're doing, and like, yeah, it does feel like all of a sudden we're mostly through it, but at the same time, I was like, we didn't really do anything.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I you know what, but hey, any excuse to watch Tron again for me, I might need to watch uh Tron and Tron Legacy again and just have that point of view in mind and see.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: If you ruin it for me, the way Amy ruined Raiders of the Lost Ark for Sheldon on Big Bang Theory, I'm gonna cut your hair.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: She's not wrong though.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: No, she's not wrong.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: That's but like I don't need I can watch that in a show.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: I don't need that in my life.
- 19:47SPEAKER_05: And I'm not attempting to ruin it for you.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I like watch it like tomorrow and I'm like, this movie sucks.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: It did give us Loki, though.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: It was what?
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: What?
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Loki.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Uh-oh.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: That's his first movie, bro.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: He was in it?
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's the one that's like Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: That's him.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: I didn't have to look that up.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: That's not no, that's Michael Sheen.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: That plays Zeus.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Is that Zeus?
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: I thought that was Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: No, sure.
- 20:24SPEAKER_05: I thought he was in it, but maybe he was somebody else.
- 20:27SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 20:28SPEAKER_05: We'll look it up, Tom.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: I always thought that was Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: I don't know why.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I was because you said that and I was like, oh, that that could have been Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Let's let's say Tom Hiddleston, Tron.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Tom Hiddleston is not in any of the Tron movies.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Well, he should be.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, but here's a picture of Zeus next to Tom Hiddleston.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: They look exactly like the same person.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_05: Well, it's fair.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: That's funny.
- 20:53SPEAKER_05: Slightly going back to You said in the first one Clue had died, but he's in the second one, so was he ever in the first one?
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: He was.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Um Clue in the first one was just meant to infiltrate the Was that Clue or was that just a separate program as a whole?
- 21:08SPEAKER_05: It was Clue.
- 21:09SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: I don't remember if they actually gave him a name in the first one.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, he named him Clue.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: Clue in the second one.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Isn't Clue an acronym?
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:19SPEAKER_05: Clone There's a Tron.
- 21:22SPEAKER_05: Trons, technically.
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: I think an acronym as well.
- 21:25SPEAKER_05: Like everything in there, if it has a name, it's kind of an acronym for something.
- 21:29SPEAKER_05: Well, it also s like except maybe.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, so quantified likeness utility.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: So if it in the first one, I guess that explains why they look like them, because they um in the in the first one it was Clue, but it was like Clue that was programmed to infiltrate the grid.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Think of Clue and Tron Legacy as like Clue two point oh.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Because he rebuilt like it shows him like when he goes back into the grid for the first time, he rebuilds Clue and gives him gives him new parameters.
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: For some reason I thought that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: the first time I made him, but I probably just missed that in one.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And and Clue in this one in Legacy was meant to perfect the grid.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: And then obviously goes crazy.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Did he go crazy though?
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: Because he was doing what he was programmed to do.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: I I don't think he I think as humans, because we understand perfection is impossible, that we we see it as being crazy.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: I don't think he went crazy because of what you said, Alex.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, he did what he was supposed to do.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: I think they do a good job in there with Flynn saying to Clue, you don't understand because I didn't either because if it is a um If it's them if it's if it's him but as a program it can't learn the same way.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Unlike an AI where like AI can learn and you can do stuff like that.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: It depends but I assume the way they were playing it was like it couldn't learn that part of what it was only learn as much as Flynn knew when he made him and that was I do like how they established that of what did you think of the Jem character?
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: She was pretty cool.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Jem Jem Okay I don't know if I remember that one she's uh she's the one that helps Olivia Wilde.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: Nope that's Cora.
- 23:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah that's oh yeah that's Korra's this person.
- 23:24SPEAKER_05: Oh the one that's buddies with Zeus right?
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah and that and like helps him like get ready for the game so she he's like what do I do?
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: She's like survive.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: I guess she was fine I mean she's not in it a lot I thought she was a I thought she was like a you know what this okay you know what this movie reminds me of and her character just made me think of this have you seen Blade Runner?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Think about that question and who you pointed to I yeah and and like what what what we're doing right now the answer is no I have not seen Blade Runner either one of them.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: And that's why I really like Tron and like Tron legacy I guess because it has a sense of a of a um of a dark noir feel to it tone where it's like it's futuristic but like like like like when Sam's going through the like driving his motorcycle through the road like it's a city it's going to be busy no matter what time of night it is but it was empty and had that noir feeling with the Daft Punk undertone going on and you're just like what's what's going on and like the whole thing kind of felt like mystique you know and then you see and then you see Jam as she just has her umbrella.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I didn't get noir out of it.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: And really I got more apocalyptic like because he's just snatching up programs and tell me tell me about no yeah tell me about that I want to know more about that take it just felt like what a dictator or a fascist leader would do like he rounded up all the people that he didn't like corrupted their programming turned them into whatever they uh just his army yeah his army because that's what it felt like it was doing I do like that clue could be remember whenever he got whenever Sam first got there he got put into the transport ships and they came down and then he has like once yeah rectify or whatever yeah games that's what it felt like is that they were just rounding up all these people to either kill or go into Yeah well and that's what Clue was meant to do because to him uh rectifying them and reprogramming them was perfecting them.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah but see that I don't get noir from that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: I I think it was more of like the environment and the way that the environment held itself was felt noir to me.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: That's okay so not not like what people were doing.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: But but like but just the the gem character gave me that because of the way she held herself and the way that she interacted with everyone I was like this is a very noir we haven't got to one of my issues I have because it wasn't an issue until Aries.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: But whatever.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah to Aries I guess.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Well hold on no no no really quick what did you think so by the way spoiler this is spoiler this is spoiler right yeah whatever we're spoiler yeah I almost 20 years ago it's almost shut up I still haven't seen Schinmeter's list so don't tell me about 20 years ago but um I don't I'll watch that with I'll watch it with Cody anyways so um it's a rough watch what's his name dang it hold on a second what's his name Flynn no Dillinger no Sam Alan no idea who you're thinking about still holding I know hold on trying oh yeah even at the beginning of this one though he ruined the big launch of the uh search engine slash uh yeah super software that they had just created yeah I don't know I what it just dawned on me yeah as I was watching it Rizzler that was the name alright keep going Rizzler Rizzler Tron bad Tron oh yeah what'd you think about what'd you think about Rizzler I had a pretty good feeling from the get go that was Tron.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah the way he moved and stuff I was like Tron and as soon as he revealed I was like yeah saw that one coming as soon as he pulled out the double things I was like Tron oh okay yeah I was about a mile away I didn't I wasn't surprised or anything into one of my big questions was why does Alan stick by Flynn?
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Flynn gives him every reason to just be like you're a douche I'm out and he's just like no I'm gonna stick by you I think because he knew Flynn wouldn't just leave and he knew Flynn was working on the grid but he didn't know how to get to the grid I I think he knew there was there was a reason why Flynn never came back but obviously couldn't I wasn't even thinking on that front.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Oh really?
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: I don't even know if he was sticking by like are you talking about his morals at the company aspect or like why would he care if he got a message from the arcade I think that one I don't again it's been a couple weeks I don't remember why I had the note on exactly what was going on with it.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: I mean it was clear from the first one that they were best friends.
- 28:30SPEAKER_05: He was hitting on his Flynn was hitting on his girlfriend like there's obviously some stuff going on there and then like him just kind of piecing out and it's like why does I'm not saying don't necessarily be friends but why is he so overly loyal to him?
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: I think just because he knew about the grid and everything.
- 28:50SPEAKER_05: They were trauma bonded they were trauma bonded Alan be trauma bonded he wasn't in the grid he was just outside the whole time that's fair hey remember when we were like what does ecom do and it's like that who cares about that part of the story?
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I think that's one of those things with trauma why is Alan still around hey shut up what did you think of the soundtrack I mean I'm not a house or EDM or whatever you want to call it fan so I just kind of ignored it.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: I liked it better than Aries.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: I like Daft Punk better than Aries Nine Inch Nails though.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Oh okay that's we could we could argue about that okay um later but uh no I okay so I do I listen to both Tron Aries and Tron Legacy soundtracks like weekly I will say though um I do prefer Legacy when I'm listening to both soundtracks and the Ares one ends I don't go back to listen to it automatically again where the Tron Legacy one I will and that's not saying anything about Nine Inch Nails they understood the assignment too but I feel like Daft Punk really understood the assignment I I can't stand house music.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Did you like the uh did you like the Daft Punk cameo?
- 30:16SPEAKER_05: They're the DJs in Zeus they are and it was fine play something upbeats and they're like cool I thought it was well I thought it made sense because of one who they are and how they appear.
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah I mean they already have the aesthetic of Tron but I mean the fact they were also doing the soundtrack it's like yeah it kind of made sense to throw them in there.
- 30:35SPEAKER_05: I thought it was cool.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Well I don't think Nine Inch Nails came out in Aries.
- 30:39SPEAKER_05: I don't think they did they as in Trent Nine Snails unless they're on tour is one dude that's fair I don't think he's in the I thought there were two guys now it's just Trent Reznor he records everything.
- 30:53SPEAKER_05: Either way yes but anyways um I don't it was fine again I liked it better.
- 31:00SPEAKER_05: It was visually more pleasing to look at they did a little bit more with like the light bikes and the discs and stuff.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: What'd you think about the um the light lines how it was all kind of wavy uh versus just a solid line oh like with the kite thing and whatnot I like the kite look in the first one better honestly really it could have been sleeker but I thought the overall design of it was better than what they did in the second one.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Oh okay that's awesome that's interesting well let's go on to uh let's go to Tron Aries now I don't think I do you have anything else about Tron Legacy for him?
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Do you like the end?
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah I did one thing that I haven't mentioned I kind of enjoyed the fact that his kid is just kind of a little asshole he kind of like he's never came but I do enjoy that he's just like causing havoc left and right and it was great.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: His dad never came home with the milk.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: He uh yep I thought the ending was good I think I mean obviously we'll get into it a little more with Aries four will have the payoff for that here's here's a question I have for you and and honestly like I know I know you could google the answer it's just like yes but I when I ask this peep question of people that are like fans like me it stirs up a conversation but because you brought up the ending of legacy do you think Flynn Kevin Flynn is actually dead after after he absorbed Clue in a sense yes like I don't think he can physically come back to our world anymore.
- 32:48SPEAKER_05: Okay and as far as in the grid I don't think like there's a physical body I think he just like exists within the data.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Because I understand like Tron Ares when he shows up but he explains why he's there.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah I mean that's a whole but but I'm like I'm like let's take that out of consideration like the actual grid though like do you do you think Flynn is still there?
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: I think he's in like I said I think he's just part of the data at this point and like a spirit influence things in a way but I don't think you could physically see him again.
- 33:23SPEAKER_05: I think he's a phantom program.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 33:25SPEAKER_05: But that's express what I'm saying.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Like like like as close as a spirit could be in like the grid world.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah like you have phantom programs.
- 33:31SPEAKER_05: I assume based on one how is Tron not dead?
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: Because obviously into they make it look like he's not dead he's every other person we see fall into the water as they would put it in the grid instantly dies like vaporized.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: No, none of the water yeah because the water we learned that in the grid water is pure energy.
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: But they just instant like they're dead when they get in there.
- 34:01SPEAKER_05: Who?
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: I'm pretty sure anytime someone fell in I mean no because that was they were always freaking out about falling in.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: No, because in the first one they drink the water and the s and the third drink and the third because it's pure energy and they died.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: No?
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: Their ship blew up and it went into cubes it like pixelated.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's what that was and I think Tron's completely fine because because again we learned in the first one that that water's pure energy pure power.
- 34:36SPEAKER_05: And it goes from orange to glue.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: And then of course in Tron Aries he's in like the boat and goes underwater and everything like that.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: So in the Dillinger No but just just the like Aries in general like in the Dillinger grid they go under the water yeah they do don't they yeah you're thinking of something different yeah apparently okay um by the way I don't think Flynn's dead either by the way now I whether or not he's a phantom spirit or he could only exist in the grid I don't know I just I feel like he's still alive but Tron Aries this movie was the first movie I saw first of any movie that I saw more than twice in theaters it's the only movie I have seen five times in cinema.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah you watched it a lot yeah I wa every week it came out I watched it until it was no longer available yeah I what whatever money it made you're welcome and I bought I bought the popcorn buckets I got both of them uh so you're welcome on that too uh what did you think of Tron?
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: You said it was your favorite first of all before we get to your favorite because we know that's your favorite favorite thumbs up or thumbs down Tron the first one yes I assume we're going like thumbs down is would not recommend.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah and like in the middle is just like it was okay.
- 36:03SPEAKER_05: It'd be middle personally didn't super enjoy it but I'm not gonna tell someone not to especially if they're into more of the sci-fi stuff it is worth watching to understand where cinema has progressed since then and some people would probably still enjoy what it was doing.
- 36:20SPEAKER_05: It just wasn't for me.
- 36:22SPEAKER_05: Tron licensey still middle but leaning up okay awesome Tron Harris I'd put it up thumbs up tell us your uh input on Tron Harris the biggest thing is it felt like the pacing it just felt like the whole movie you could see things happening and progressing at a better pace I felt like than the other ones.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: You think it was because it had a 39 minute time or 29 minute timer that you were able to actually physically see that?
- 36:57SPEAKER_05: Not really because I think even without that don't get me wrong like there would it would have been weird if like you're 40 minutes later and it's like oh they're still here like the movies do tend to do because that is typically what happens because realistically we don't ever see them for the full 29 minutes.
- 37:14SPEAKER_05: Like it'll cut away and it'll be like oh it's been like 10 minutes and they have less time and it's like okay.
- 37:21SPEAKER_05: I don't know if it was jumping in and out of the grid that felt like they were doing more something just felt like for me you could it felt like the whole time you could see things going.
- 37:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah and it never felt like it was stagnant.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: It also s I think it's I don't know if you like the grid aspect of it because this is the one that had the least grid.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: I like the grid I just what if you're gonna give me the cool stuff give me the cool stuff.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: I I think the reason I mean I I I mean the reason the the grid wasn't there that much is because they were very clear it's like they don't we don't need to visit the grid because the grid's visiting us.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah what did you think I'm not arguing that yeah at all what did you think?
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna jump right to it what did you think when Athena goes up to the computer and you see her downloading a full frickin recognizer to use I mean I wasn't surprised I wasn't sure what she was gonna do but I wasn't surprised by that I I lost my mind I was like we're gonna see a recognizer and then it starts flying and I was like this is the coolest movie ever.
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: I would say visually I loved that we had a lot more of like using of the disc of the either bikes or the planes or whatever you want to call them where you see the light trails like the fact they actually used everything I was like okay now you're using the stuff I was promised.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: And it was different too because it was villagers.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah I what I love most about Tron Legacy or not Tron Legacy Tron Ares which I I I think a lot of people missed was that we weren't looking at Kevin Flynn's grid we weren't looking at ecomm's grid we were but pretty quick I was like oh this is a whole different assistant yeah got it and it's really cool because I do this all the time I'll watch Tron Legacy and then I'll immediately turn on Tron Aries and I'm like we just saw Ecom's grid and now we I get to see Dillinger's grid and I you get to compare them yeah back and forth and then I that's why I love Tron Aries so much.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I'm like we're we we get to see the grid in a completely different light from somebody else with their own motives.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: Obviously in the main grid that we're used to if they're orange it means they're bad is red just Dillinger's server's color or is it supposed to be that they're bad guys?
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: I think both because in Tron in the first Tron movie It's supposed to be for the guy in the armor.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah well I cannot think of that guy's name off the top of my head so so in the first movie uh Dillinger created Master Control which created everything else which was and that was all red so I think red is orange yeah I think red is Dillinger okay and orange is more corruption corruption they have a whole breakdown of this uh I actually I think it's on YouTube someone did a full breakdown of like the colors I want to watch that yeah because they even have they had turquoise and purple and like purple purple's supposed to be like I want to say it's like it's not the phantom programs but it's something that's like high up and like can't be touched basically but I don't know I also thought it was a little cliche that of course a company that deals in stuff with war has a program called Aries because of course they do right I was like really we could have and figured out something more original.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: Could have called Kronos yeah just gave me a different conflict Aries every time I like how Tron Aries starts it it does a quick like okay here's where we left off 15 years ago and then you get to actually we never actually got to see the creation of Clue or of the grid or of Tron but we got to see the creation of there's that fly again we got to see the creation of Aries and then you and Aries is just looking at the other program that gets killed and then you see him block but then gets killed again and you get to see the progression of Aries yeah and he's just like learning also not gonna lie all three movies feel like AI propaganda um probably but like the again not gonna say it makes them less enjoyable but it is like hmm they're really pushing AI here.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: But like that's the thing like in 1983 like it showed what the a the original I get but now it was like hmm well and and now because they use the word AI and like Aries is an AI versus where Tron was a like program.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Because remember Tron was programmed to fight for the users.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah and he kept that until Clue corrupted him Tron was a program to fight for Dillinger.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: Aries that's what I said yeah that's why I'm pretty sure if you go back Aries was was fought which was yeah his program but Tron was to fight for all the programs where Aries was an AI to fight for Dillinger but because he learned he was like I don't want to do this.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah I need a better purpose than to just do your bitter where so that Athena was like no I am a program and I will do what I am programmed.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: What were you saying Alex?
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna break down the question that I've always wanted to hear from you because I think me and John sit on opposite fences of this okay should Ares be the third Tron movie?
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Yes Oh we're talking about the title?
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah I I understand why they called it Tron Aries but because again spoiler Tron's not in it and I understand Tron's the IP I do think they should have just called it Ares or called it the grid I agree with that this should have been uh but this shouldn't have been tied it's still tied to it it's something that I picked up that I think both of you are missing on it.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Because there are a lot of ties to the other stuff this is just a sign of getting there that's the thing though that's why I don't like the name which is I mean but like being like a Star Wars fan I I get why they did why they called it Tron because it's like you have Rogue One a Star Wars story or Or Star Wars Han Solo.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Like I get this, isn't Star Wars as its own freaking thing with in that universe.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: But Star Wars, the Mandalorian Grogu.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: But I I think just because I am so into these things, I'm like, why'd you call it Tron?
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: That's my issue with it.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: Well, you can say the same thing about the title Tron Legacy.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: This isn't about Tron's legacy, this is about Sam's legacy.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's more Flynn's legacy.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: I think it's only more excusable because Tron is actually in it.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Whereas Ares, Tron wasn't.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: What did you uh what did you think about um basically where where the story ended up going in Tron Ares?
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: Because it started off with them trying to find the permanence code.
- 44:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_05: Which they obviously find in the end.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Where e com wants it so that they can help with shortages where Dillinger wants it for military.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: I wish they would have set that up in the previous one a little bit more.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: But there was the issue, it wasn't a problem in the second movie.
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: Like it wasn't at that point they weren't there wasn't a shortage, and like we weren't focused on Dillinger.
- 45:22SPEAKER_05: So like they made it look like in the second one, Dillinger didn't exist anymore.
- 45:27SPEAKER_05: Like he went under.
- 45:29SPEAKER_05: So then in the third one, it's more of a surprise to be like, oh, they're still around.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Well, no, because one of the shareholders was um was Dillinger.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: And Sam, that's why Sam that's why Sam was a misfit because he was stopping Dillinger from taking a stand.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: He was an a-hole about it.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: But okay.
- 45:52SPEAKER_05: In a very fun way.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: In a really fun way, yeah.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just wish they would have established the permanence code was locked in.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: Why am I blanking on his name?
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: To Kevin?
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: To Kevin's disc.
- 46:04SPEAKER_05: I feel like they kind of did.
- 46:06SPEAKER_05: They said Clue wanted.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but they never said it was because of the permanence code.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: They just said it was the disc.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: I mean that's why Clue needed his to get out.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Because they mentioned that for Clue to get out, they needed to be a good one.
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: But they never Yeah, but they never started to call it the permanence code.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they didn't call it permanence, yeah.
- 46:23SPEAKER_05: I mean you can kind of put two and two together, and it's like, well, that's what it was.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Well then, and then we learned that Flynn wouldn't have called it the permanence code, he would have called it the impermanence code.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he gave it to Aries.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: What did you think about that, like going back inside the original Flynn grid?
- 46:40SPEAKER_05: I kind of liked it.
- 46:41SPEAKER_05: It was a cool callback.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: I thought it was fun.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: Obviously, it looked very 80s, but just cleaner.
- 46:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was like the original grid and like the lights not bleeding off, like they kept it clean.
- 46:54SPEAKER_05: So I was like, See, it looked I think it looked good.
- 46:57SPEAKER_05: It looked like what I wish the first one would have looked like, but obviously it was the 80s, so it couldn't actually look like that.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: I wish they would have changed Aries look a little bit when he went in there.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: Because the grid wouldn't have been able to like do it.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Because he's too powerful.
- 47:17SPEAKER_05: I mean, he still looks like Flynn.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: My favorite part of going inside of Flynn's grid was seeing Bit again.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: The second bit flew up to him, I literally in the theaters went, It's Bit! And I was like, okay, no one in here knows what that is.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Never mind.
- 47:41SPEAKER_05: Fun way to call back to it.
- 47:43SPEAKER_05: Did you like this one also because it was a bit more violent?
- 47:47SPEAKER_05: Not necessarily.
- 47:48SPEAKER_05: I think even if they didn't have the violence, like it just the story felt like it flowed better.
- 47:53SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 47:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, it didn't hurt because it gave us more of like fighting with the disc and the light trails, which again, if you're gonna promise it to me, I kind of want to see it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: What'd you think about the light trails in this one?
- 48:05SPEAKER_05: I mean, I thought they looked good in the second one, too.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: Like, realistically, for me at this point, graphics are to a point I can't tell a difference between the second one and this one.
- 48:14SPEAKER_05: I'm like, it looks the same.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: I really like how my my two favorite parts about this one is well, three, and they're all the same scene.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: When when you see the recognizer in the city in between buildings, I'm like, oh, that's the coolest thing ever.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: And then all of a sudden the fighter jet comes by, and then the one cuts the wings off of the fighter jet, and I was like, okay, that can't get cooler than I thought can't get cooler than this, and then all of a sudden, the fighter jet is like, I'm butching out, see uh, ejects and crashes into the recognizer, the only way to bring it down, and I was like, this is the coolest movie ever, dude.
- 48:58SPEAKER_05: The way they used all of the grid like stuff just seemed like they actually were like, okay, we're gonna put an effort into actually utilizing this stuff instead of it just being, well, it exists.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Well then, and then the bike scene when they were going through the city and the cars were running into the light.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I was like, I love everything about it.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: And hey, hey, really quick, and I know this is has nothing to do with anything, but Jared Freaking Leto did incredible in that movie and held that movie on his shoulders.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Holy crap.
- 49:28SPEAKER_05: Anyways, that's I will say as a slight caveat, if he screwed up that role, that would have been really bad, because that shouldn't be a hard roll to nail.
- 49:38SPEAKER_05: It's pretty hard to screw up a robot.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: He's not a robot, though.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: He's a program.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: He's an AI, he's not even a program, he's an AI.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: An AI is a program.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: I didn't know Jarrett Leto was the reason it got made.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: He was so I knew he was like an executive producer.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: He was the one that pushed it.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: And like I think he was also the one that pitched the idea of like what's going on.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: It must have been from his terrible backlashes with Morbius.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: Morbius was great.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: I still haven't seen Morbius.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: I need to I need to watch that.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: How has he seen a movie and you have it?
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Um how is he how has he seen a Jarrett Leto movie and I have it?
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: That's another story.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: That's a big thing.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: Um my uh I I love I love the movie.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: It's a great movie.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: What did you think of the ending though?
- 50:29SPEAKER_05: I guess like the fact that he is like living his own life now, or what?
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like uh he he's now permanent.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Um he still has all of his uh fighting abilities and anything everything like that.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: But now he's looking for Korra.
- 50:46SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think that's where it's gonna make the second one tie into it.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Also, Sam disappeared too, we found out.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: Sam's with Korra.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Is he though, or is he in the grid?
- 51:00SPEAKER_05: I think they have to give it.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: I think he's with Korra, but obviously, I mean, we'll find out with it.
- 51:05SPEAKER_05: It could be that he's in the grid, but I don't know.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: It's hard to say.
- 51:09SPEAKER_05: I assume after he got out in the second one, it was just basically like see ya.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: Well, we know that Korra was the first permanence program.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: But she was also born in the grid.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: She wasn't like everyone else.
- 51:25SPEAKER_05: She was one of the I don't remember what they call it.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I forgot.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: But um, I think my prediction is that Flynn went to the grid because Korra was glitching.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: It'd be an interesting idea.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: That's my idea that he has been trying to find a way to keep Korra permanent.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: And maybe in Toronto 4, maybe Ares will realize well, this happened to me, or is it there because Aries is a program, let alone AI versus Korra being born in the.
- 52:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_04: That's fair.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: That's my kind of prediction and guess of where Sam and Cora might be.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I also think, and you let me know what you think about this, I think Ares is Tron's cousin.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: If not, if not brother, cousin.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: I can see like the connection there.
- 52:23SPEAKER_05: I I mean, I don't know how they would fully like make it tie in, because like obviously it's just a program, but I get like the idea, because it's like, well, they both were both creators were under the same umbrella at one time and then they split.
- 52:43SPEAKER_05: So in a sense, that'd be like cousins.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: We know Dillinger was trying to find the Tron program.
- 52:50SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: And either when Tron fell in the water in the second one or something in the first one, I think Dillinger was able to get a sliver of Tron's DNA, and by reverse engineering was able to create Aries Aries.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: Now, now his grandfather probably couldn't, but he was able to create Ares.
- 53:11SPEAKER_05: You go down the line, you get smarter, yeah.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: And I think I think with that, I think Ares and Tron are cousins.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: I can see it.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: And uh what I really want to see is I want to see Tron and Ares back to back, either in the real world or in the grid, and they both take out their discs.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Tron has this cool triangle one and the blades come out.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: And I try Ares, yeah.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: I keep saying Ares, dude.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: Ares 2.2.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Have Ares take out his triangle disc and have the blades come out, and then Tron splits his disc into the two, and they're like back-to-back fighting like programs or something.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: I think that'd be the coolest freaking thing ever.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: But speaking of this and that, this and that, what did you think of did you see the aftercredit in Tron Aries?
- 54:04SPEAKER_05: Probably, because I just let it go through.
- 54:06SPEAKER_05: I don't remember what the aftercredit was.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: It was so they nuke Dillinger's grid, right?
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: Dillinger then, instead of getting arrested, goes into the grid.
- 54:19SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: And then when he gets there, the old school disc comes up and he grabs it and he's wearing his grandfather's armor.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: From because and it's insinuating that that was his grandfather's disc.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: So what did you think about all that?
- 54:35SPEAKER_05: I thought it was cool.
- 54:36SPEAKER_05: I mean, as far as a little like part of the ending involving Dillinger, if they're trying to make me feel bad because his mom died, I don't feel bad.
- 54:44SPEAKER_05: Oh no, not at all.
- 54:46SPEAKER_05: Not at all.
- 54:47SPEAKER_05: Biggest a-hole in the world, and he deserved everything he got.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: The second she got stabbed in his face, I literally, again, out loud went, You did this to yourself, man.
- 54:57SPEAKER_05: That's exactly what I was thinking.
- 54:58SPEAKER_05: I was like, it's your own fault.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: I do like the line Athena gave her, though, when she was like, We've given a thousand lives for you, but you only need to give one.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: And I was like, whoa, it was a good line.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: But I was also like, hmm.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: He kind of deserved it.
- 55:14SPEAKER_03: Like, she didn't deserve to get stabbed, but he definitely did.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I really appreciated the developmental of Ares in this, because when you first see him, he's like looking at the rain and that's where it's seeing starting to already break.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, she was like, What did you see this time?
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: He's like, I saw rain and a mother and a son.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: And I was like, What's this guy doing over here?
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Alex, what do you got going on over there with uh Tron Aries?
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: Nothing.
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: I thought it was an alright movie.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Just alright.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: What like what what was your what's your favorite in the orders for the three Tron movies?
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: Legacy Aries Tron.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: I think I think mine is I think I have to agree with that.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: But it's like a really, really, really close.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: Like they're close.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're close, but I think Legacy Aries Tron just it for me makes more sense.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: And then you liked, did you like the Legacy or Aries soundtrack more?
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: I liked Daft Punk.
- 56:13SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: Only because it was more upbeat.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: And I think that like I prefer more upbeat than what Aries was presenting.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, like I get what Aries was doing.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: 100% get it.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: And I'm not saying 9-inch nails didn't.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, they nailed it.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they nailed it.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: Made it great.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: It's just like if I'm gonna listen to it regularly, I want the more upbeat.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: I think hopefully they do another movie.
- 56:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I understand this one didn't do at the box office.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: It did well on streaming.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Did fine.
- 56:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, the audience on Rotten Tomatoes significantly had Aries in the lead, and it wasn't even close.
- 56:51SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 56:52SPEAKER_05: I um the first two were close audience score wise.
- 56:57SPEAKER_05: Number one had a 69%, number two had a 64%.
- 57:01SPEAKER_05: So general public likes the first one more than the second one.
- 57:04SPEAKER_05: Aries had an 83% audience score.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: See, I like that, but when you look at the critics score, they were just like, eh, this movie sucked.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, you guys can be quiet.
- 57:13SPEAKER_05: Critics had the first one the highest at 60.
- 57:15SPEAKER_05: They did have Aries in second at 53, but that's just barely above Legacy at 51.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: So And that I remember when Tron Legacy came out, and I remember a lot of people liking it, and then for some reason, when again, because people hate on the name Geraleto when Ares came out, they're like, no one cares about Tron.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I'm the Tron Legacy made$400 million.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Like it made more than Black Adam.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: So whatever.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: But this one did not.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: I think this one only made like 162 million or something like that.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Or two.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: How much did it make?
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: Hold on, I'm gonna look that up.
- 57:52SPEAKER_05: We had the whole you did bring up earlier the whole, you know, it showed the 29 minute thing.
- 57:58SPEAKER_05: Pretty sure at the end that was longer than 29 minutes.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: No, my biggest so my biggest problem with that movie, by the way, it made 142 million worldwide.
- 58:11SPEAKER_05: That's on probably 200, 250 million budget, I assume.
- 58:16SPEAKER_05: Um John Aries.
- 58:19SPEAKER_05: I know its budget wouldn't have been low.
- 58:20SPEAKER_05: I mean, at least a hundred million budget, but probably higher because of the effects they have to do.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: 220 million, yeah, they made no money on that.
- 58:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: Which they had to they had to make full.
- 58:34SPEAKER_05: They had to make like close to the yeah, 400 million to make like a profit.
- 58:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but I mean when you look at because obviously budget doesn't never account marketing or anything, which is always why it's like, well, it has to do way more than what it says.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: So rule of thumb, it's like 20% of what your budget is, is what you put into marketing.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: And then but people don't talk about this too.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Like, like they made money on the popcorn buckets.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: Like that goes to Aries, and then like any other merchandise.
- 59:02SPEAKER_05: You're not gonna see that on the box office.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, and that's and that's why when people are like, How did this movie come out with a sequel?
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: The the first one did terrible, it's like It's everything else.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like they sold merchandise, like, and Mel Brooks put it perfect.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: I know it was a joke in Spaceballs, the movie, but he was like, it's where the real money of the movie comes from.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: If you look in a merchandise for movies that flop, they make so much money off of merchandise.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: Some of them.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: Well, some of them some of them, some of them, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: There's something to suck it, suck, but I I think Aries, I know the merchandise section alone, they've they've done really well.
- 59:39SPEAKER_05: They've great.
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: 80 mil obviously isn't great that they lost, but like in the grand scheme, there's been way bigger flops.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: And I think I think it's still worth to make a fourth one just to You gotta tie it.
- 59:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, just too much.
- 59:55SPEAKER_05: Legacy probably didn't actually make money either.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: I don't think any of them.
- 59:58SPEAKER_05: Oh no, that Legacy made money, yeah.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_05: Did it?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it made$400 million, and the budget was way less than that.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_05: For some reason I was like, I don't know if any of them actually box office-wise, did that great.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: So it had$170 million and it made uh$400 million, I believe.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_05: But I mean you do have to they've set too much up to not finish it.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_05: The first one, if they never made a sequel, you're like, okay, they wrapped everything up.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: Like the story ended, we're good.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_05: Unfortunately, in two, you could have left it there, but it's like people are gonna be intrigued by what Water Sam and Cora are doing.
