- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at 6'5, weight class unknown, but
- 0:04Speaker 1: hailing from the city of sin, put your hands together
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And in this corner, standing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: At 5'10, weighing in at pounds, and coming to us
- 0:14Speaker 1: from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona,
- 0:18Speaker 1: put your hands together for Luis Montemayor.
- 0:25Speaker 3: All right. Thank you. Welcome back to the episode of
- 0:27Speaker 3: the Mixed Company Podcast. Of course, My name is Jameson,
- 0:30Speaker 3: and as always, I'm joined by Luis. Luis, what's going on, man?
- 0:34Speaker 4: Oh, man, a lot of BS, to be honest with you.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I don't know why I censored it. We're rated E
- 0:37Speaker 4: for explicit. A lot of bullshit in the boxing world.
- 0:41Speaker 5: It's gotten bad or worse, though.
- 0:43Speaker 4: We were talking last week about Shakur Stevenson possibly fighting
- 0:46Speaker 4: Devin Haney. You made a very good point, saying we're
- 0:48Speaker 4: not going to believe anything until it's on the dotted
- 0:51Speaker 4: line and we've got an official announcement. There's a lot
- 0:53Speaker 4: of people on social media kind of saying, we got
- 0:56Speaker 4: to fight, we got to fight, let's talk about it,
- 0:57Speaker 4: Haney versus Shakur.
- 0:59Speaker 5: Fell apart.
- 1:00Speaker 4: So, you know, you were, you were right that, you know,
- 1:02Speaker 4: we had a temporary expectations and then we got the news,
- 1:06Speaker 4: I believe, but yesterday at the time of recording that
- 1:09Speaker 4: Shakur is no longer with Zufa and is starting his
- 1:12Speaker 4: own promotional company and still hyping himself up saying, man,
- 1:15Speaker 4: we're going to have some great fights. It's going to
- 1:17Speaker 4: be great for my career. Let's just put it out there.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Neither of us are happy. This is fucking ridiculous. And
- 1:24Speaker 4: you're talking to the guy that has been hyping up
- 1:26Speaker 4: Shakur for years now when people were down on him,
- 1:30Speaker 4: the reason to be a fan of a boxer is
- 1:32Speaker 4: because they box. They get in the ring, they fight.
- 1:35Speaker 4: And man, he, I'll just say he's lost me. So
- 1:38Speaker 4: I want to get your take on this. We got
- 1:39Speaker 4: a lot more to get into, but please, what are
- 1:41Speaker 4: your thoughts on this?
- 1:43Speaker 3: So it's a lot going on. I think a lot
- 1:46Speaker 3: of broken promises. I think there are a lot of
- 1:49Speaker 3: mismanagement of funds. And at first I was upset at Shakur,
- 1:55Speaker 3: but when Conor Ben's getting paid $ 15 million to make
- 1:58Speaker 3: a fight, Shakur Stevenson, the better fighter, worth more than that.
- 2:02Speaker 3: So if it is true that Conor Van got $ 15 million,
- 2:05Speaker 3: then Shakur.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Got to get $ 20.
- 2:06Speaker 3: That's off math. Just off of raw math and numbers
- 2:12Speaker 3: and shit. He has to get $ 20 or close to it.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So if he got promised $ 15 and it got down.
- 2:17Speaker 2: To $ 7, nah, that ain't going to work. It ain't
- 2:20Speaker 2: going to work.
- 2:20Speaker 3: However, the way Shakur has handled himself on social media,
- 2:26Speaker 3: on TV, it leads... a lot to be desired. A
- 2:31Speaker 3: lot of people are over it. So when you think
- 2:33Speaker 3: about all that in once, it's like, all right, I
- 2:37Speaker 3: get where he's coming from business-wise, but all the tough
- 2:40Speaker 3: talk on social media has made this go way different,
- 2:44Speaker 3: and people are just over it at this point. Now,
- 2:46Speaker 3: with that being said, Zufa and the powers that be
- 2:49Speaker 3: there got to get their stuff together. This era of
- 2:52Speaker 3: boxers is very spoiled when it comes to making money.
- 2:55Speaker 3: So if they're under a certain agreement of making a
- 2:58Speaker 3: certain amount, you can't renege at the last minute or say, hey,
- 3:02Speaker 3: that's not available.
- 3:03Speaker 2: It don't work that way. It just doesn't.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and 100% agree that Shakur should have gotten paid
- 3:11Speaker 4: as much or more than Conor Bennett, definitely.
- 3:14Speaker 5: No, no question there.
- 3:15Speaker 4: It's just the whole thing of signing with these people
- 3:18Speaker 4: in a fight not happening, and whoever's fault it is
- 3:20Speaker 4: at the end of the day, we're not getting matches.
- 3:22Speaker 4: And that's what we're here for. That's what we're here
- 3:23Speaker 4: to talk about. and man, again, you're talking to a
- 3:26Speaker 4: guy who's give so much credit to fighters because I
- 3:28Speaker 4: respect them.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Getting into the ring is a big deal. It's dangerous. Uh,
- 3:32Speaker 5: I admire them.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Very much, but it's because I watched them fight, you know? And,
- 3:37Speaker 4: and that's what, what it all boils down to me
- 3:39Speaker 4: is that, you know, we're coming up. Shakur had his
- 3:42Speaker 4: amazing matchup against tail female in January and nothing's going
- 3:47Speaker 4: to happen for, you know, at the end of this year,
- 3:48Speaker 4: I'm assuming him as.
- 3:49Speaker 5: A free agent. And, uh, Yeah, I'm glad you brought
- 3:53Speaker 5: up the point specifically about the amount of money that
- 3:55Speaker 5: Zufa offered. You can't, you know, here's the thing.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I said before that they're bringing in a lot of
- 4:02Speaker 4: names like Conor Benn and Edgar Berlanga, not for name recognition,
- 4:08Speaker 4: not for skills. And then Shakur, because they're putting a
- 4:10Speaker 4: lot of money up front to get eyeballs coming in.
- 4:13Speaker 4: But there is a very clear difference between those names
- 4:16Speaker 4: at the top and then the younger up-and-coming guys that
- 4:19Speaker 4: they sign, you know. When you got those names at
- 4:22Speaker 4: the top, you got to be fair about how much
- 4:24Speaker 4: you're paying all of them, knowing that they're underpaying the
- 4:27Speaker 4: hell out of the little guys.
- 4:28Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:29Speaker 2: This feels like live golf all over again.
- 4:32Speaker 3: It feels like, all right, we're going to make a
- 4:34Speaker 3: splash and throw money at things, but don't necessarily follow through.
- 4:38Speaker 3: That's what this feels like. That's what it feels like.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And I hope it's not the case, but those are
- 4:44Speaker 3: the vibes I'm getting. And that's not good. That's not
- 4:47Speaker 3: a good situation or a good experience. If that's going
- 4:50Speaker 3: to be the case, then we have a whole different
- 4:52Speaker 3: conversation to talk about, to be honest with you. But
- 4:56Speaker 3: it feels like, hey, let's try something and then we
- 5:00Speaker 3: don't know what we're doing and then just act clueless
- 5:04Speaker 3: when things go a certain way. Why hasn't there been
- 5:07Speaker 3: a statement about Shakur Stevenson leaving Zufa? Why hasn't there
- 5:11Speaker 3: been any communication when that happens? It's just announced that
- 5:16Speaker 3: he left and that's that. There's no communication, no response, no, hey,
- 5:20Speaker 3: we were working on something and it didn't work out.
- 5:22Speaker 3: We decided to go on a subway.
- 5:24Speaker 2: No, nothing. Like, what's going on here? You know what
- 5:26Speaker 2: I mean? So these are the things that are very
- 5:28Speaker 2: upsetting for a new group, basically, that's trying to put
- 5:33Speaker 2: on big fights and try to pay a lot of
- 5:34Speaker 2: people money for this to be the case. I don't know, man.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's not a good look. It's not a good look
- 5:39Speaker 2: at all.
- 5:40Speaker 5: You know what's crazy? I just actually realized. You made
- 5:42Speaker 5: me realize.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You're right.
- 5:43Speaker 5: There's no Zufa statement. Yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 4: We're going off of, you know, what Shakur said, he
- 5:47Speaker 4: made the announcement, this and that, and the news stories
- 5:49Speaker 4: are all over the place, you know, but you're, you
- 5:52Speaker 4: are a hundred percent correct.
- 5:53Speaker 5: I didn't see it either. I kind of slipped through
- 5:54Speaker 5: the cracks. That is crazy.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Like, how do you just, that's your biggest name, your
- 5:58Speaker 4: biggest deal, your biggest hype was signing this kid.
- 6:02Speaker 5: And then it dissolves and it's just like, well, whatever,
- 6:05Speaker 5: you know, let's, let's go.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Dana White still, I guess, focused on trying to weasel
- 6:10Speaker 4: his way into the Anthony Joshua Tyson Fury fight. And
- 6:12Speaker 4: that's a whole other conversation. But, yeah, what the hell
- 6:15Speaker 4: is happening with Shakur specifically?
- 6:19Speaker 3: I don't know, man. I don't know. It's a very
- 6:21Speaker 3: weird situation. With all that being said, it's one of
- 6:24Speaker 3: those things to where it feels like they're trying things
- 6:30Speaker 3: out as they go. It doesn't feel very structured. It
- 6:34Speaker 3: feels like, hey, let's just make a big fight and
- 6:36Speaker 3: see what happens. Well, it's like, no, we're not there
- 6:38Speaker 3: yet because Shakur hasn't fought in basically a year. So
- 6:42Speaker 3: he needs actual fights. So by the time he has
- 6:44Speaker 3: a fight, it's going to be damn near a year.
- 6:46Speaker 3: He needs to actually fight someone to get his things
- 6:49Speaker 3: going again. Haney is kind of in a similar situation.
- 6:53Speaker 3: He needs to fight someone. So there's just a lot
- 6:55Speaker 3: of random stuff. And it just feels like they're trying
- 6:58Speaker 3: to throw darts at a board and hope things stick.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't see it sticking, though. It feels very, very
- 7:03Speaker 2: odd at this point.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Well, you mentioned the live golf thing. I know literally
- 7:07Speaker 4: three things about golf. I've never watched it in my life,
- 7:09Speaker 4: never followed it. It's Tiger Woods, Happy Gilmore. And that
- 7:13Speaker 4: Live Golf was a Saudi-backed business or whatever you want
- 7:17Speaker 4: to call it that folded because they couldn't deliver on
- 7:19Speaker 4: what they were promising.
- 7:20Speaker 5: That's literally all I know about golf. And yeah, same thing.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Data White, Zufa, and I forget the name of the,
- 7:28Speaker 4: whatever the other, you know, corporation that Zufa's under is
- 7:31Speaker 4: also Saudi-backed. So it seemed, it reminded me of this,
- 7:35Speaker 4: you know, the Kid Mero actually on a podcast was
- 7:38Speaker 4: talking about what happened when he had a lot of money,
- 7:39Speaker 4: his first big paycheck, and he was doing stupid shit like,
- 7:42Speaker 4: he was tipping 50% or even a hundred percent anywhere
- 7:45Speaker 4: he went diners, this and that, and, you know, buying
- 7:47Speaker 4: all kinds of things. And, you know, people around him
- 7:49Speaker 4: told him like, don't, don't do that. That's literally what
- 7:51Speaker 4: happens to people that have money and how they lose it.
- 7:53Speaker 4: You know, it felt like the Saudis and boxing and
- 7:56Speaker 4: golf and all these enterprises and music, all these entertainments
- 7:59Speaker 4: were like, we.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Got all the money in the world.
- 8:01Speaker 4: The party's never going to stop. Let's go ahead and
- 8:04Speaker 4: do whatever we want. Let's, you know, just spend it here,
- 8:07Speaker 4: spend 15 million on, on Connor Ben, et cetera. And just,
- 8:12Speaker 4: We've seen that pattern over and over and over. And
- 8:15Speaker 4: we're seeing it now in the short term with these
- 8:18Speaker 4: enterprises in golf and in boxing.
- 8:20Speaker 5: So you're right. It really does seem like it's just
- 8:24Speaker 5: the same story over and over again. And I don't know.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I mean, I won't be sad if Zufa Boxing just
- 8:29Speaker 4: kind of folds as well like Live Golf did. But
- 8:32Speaker 4: there's a long ways to go from there.
- 8:34Speaker 3: I just....
- 8:36Speaker 4: I think at the end of the day, we've been
- 8:37Speaker 4: proven right to, to patiently say, well, wait, but we're
- 8:40Speaker 4: still not impressed with anything Dana White has been doing
- 8:42Speaker 4: in the sport. So even Turkey, Ella shake, you know, as,
- 8:45Speaker 4: as much as I have criticized the Saudis too, for
- 8:47Speaker 4: being involved credit where credit is due.
- 8:49Speaker 5: I've given him credit for.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Putting together matches that people really want to see people
- 8:52Speaker 4: better be of Canelo Crawford. You, those who were listening
- 8:56Speaker 4: back then heard me losing my shit. When Bud Crawford
- 9:00Speaker 4: got up on the ring, uh, at the, uh, at
- 9:02Speaker 4: the end of that Canelo fight. And, um, I believe
- 9:04Speaker 4: it was Cinco de Mayo last year. Uh, and I
- 9:06Speaker 4: was thrilled. I was a fan boy, but yeah. And
- 9:09Speaker 4: when you pull back and you look at it, you
- 9:11Speaker 4: temper your expectations. You see this, it's just, this just
- 9:14Speaker 4: doesn't have the juice, man. This, these enterprises just do
- 9:16Speaker 4: not have the juice. So we'll keep an eye on
- 9:19Speaker 4: what happens. We should, of course, Stevenson and Zufa boxing. Uh,
- 9:22Speaker 4: but let's move on to something that happened last weekend. Uh,
- 9:25Speaker 4: an enterprise that actually is killing it in the boxing scene. TNT,
- 9:29Speaker 4: believe it or not. We talk a lot about the
- 9:32Speaker 4: monthly events that they put on. They're called The Fight
- 9:35Speaker 4: on TNT. Last weekend, really cool night of boxing. Awesome,
- 9:40Speaker 4: exciting fight with Armando Resendiz and his opponent.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Forgot the name.
- 9:44Speaker 5: I apologize. And then the main event, Sebastian Fundora against
- 9:48Speaker 5: Armand Hadribea. Hadribeaj.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I mispronounced the last episode. But yeah, so really exciting fight.
- 9:55Speaker 5: A lot of action.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Uh, the crazy thing that happened was that went all
- 10:00Speaker 4: 12 rounds, literally at the last second, when the bell rung,
- 10:05Speaker 4: either Sebastian Funtura landed a hook on the chin, Haderbea
- 10:10Speaker 4: went down and then the ref gave him an eight count.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Haderbea was on his, was on his feet and the
- 10:16Speaker 4: ref waved it off, called it a TKO. Uh, There's
- 10:19Speaker 4: a lot of back and forth. Bud Crawford disagreed with
- 10:22Speaker 4: the stoppage. Honestly, I'll give you my personal opinion. Let
- 10:25Speaker 4: bro have it, man. He fell down when the bell rang. Obviously,
- 10:30Speaker 4: the ref has to stop somebody if they can't continue,
- 10:32Speaker 4: but he wouldn't have been able to continue anyway.
- 10:34Speaker 5: You could tell he was gone. Give him the 10 count, man.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I don't know how you feel about that.
- 10:40Speaker 4: But he made it all 12 rounds literally on his feet,
- 10:44Speaker 4: and there was no more fight to be had, so
- 10:45Speaker 4: there's nothing about safety, protection, I think even if that's
- 10:50Speaker 4: not the rules, I think you could have let it slide.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Off for, for a hundred Bay out there.
- 10:53Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 10:53Speaker 5: What are your thoughts about something like that?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. I don't like in box.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I'm not a fan of letting anything slide because you
- 11:01Speaker 3: got to be consistent with the rules.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:03Speaker 3: When you're not consistent, you get a lot of weird
- 11:05Speaker 3: things and we already know when it comes to box
- 11:08Speaker 3: and people already on guard when.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It comes to anything consistent. Right. So whenever, whenever something
- 11:13Speaker 2: happens out the blue, it's like, I don't know, or, Oh,
- 11:16Speaker 2: it's rigged all of a sudden, you know what I mean?
- 11:18Speaker 3: So, I'm always one of those that whatever the rule is,
- 11:22Speaker 3: stick by it, because if not, all hell breaks loose.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Well, sure, and I do agree with that. Don't get
- 11:28Speaker 5: me wrong.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I guess I'm saying the rule is don't stop a
- 11:31Speaker 4: fighter to protect him or her so there's no permanent
- 11:36Speaker 4: lasting damage, loss of life, my God. But there wouldn't
- 11:39Speaker 4: have been. Again, the count happened. Honestly, the count happened
- 11:43Speaker 4: after the bell rang. The count started after the bell rang.
- 11:47Speaker 4: And another thing, like I said, But one thing if
- 11:48Speaker 4: Hatterbea was still on his back at the eight count. Actually,
- 11:51Speaker 4: for those, any listeners who might not know, refs always
- 11:54Speaker 4: go through at least the full eight count, even if
- 11:56Speaker 4: the fighter is standing on his feet, even if he's
- 11:58Speaker 4: like looking like he's ready to go.
- 12:01Speaker 5: They got to go through the eight. And then he
- 12:03Speaker 5: waved it off. And here's the thing.
- 12:05Speaker 4: If there was like one more second of the possibility
- 12:09Speaker 4: of Hatterbea.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Fighting, then yeah, wave it off. but we were done, man.
- 12:16Speaker 5: So I see both sides. It's kind of my thing.
- 12:21Speaker 5: It's like at the end of the day, this comes
- 12:24Speaker 5: from a place.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Of respect for Hunter Brea because he started off looking
- 12:27Speaker 4: really good in the first few rounds, about three rounds,
- 12:30Speaker 4: definitely after the second half of the fight. Fundano was
- 12:32Speaker 4: just kicking his ass, and it was one of those
- 12:35Speaker 4: matches where I actually was surprised that it went the distance.
- 12:38Speaker 5: I was shocked. I thought somebody was going to get
- 12:40Speaker 5: knocked out. There was going to be a stoppage.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I personally, I've kind of grown to love those fights
- 12:45Speaker 4: more than an actual fight where you get a TKO
- 12:48Speaker 4: or somebody gets slept because it's that tension of like,
- 12:52Speaker 4: they're not still going another round.
- 12:54Speaker 5: It's going to stop this round, right? But I don't know.
- 12:56Speaker 5: How do you feel about that?
- 12:57Speaker 4: I mean, it's something I've kind of developed now that
- 13:00Speaker 4: when I do see that happen, I feel kind of
- 13:02Speaker 4: more engaged with a.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Fight of like, is it going to stop? Is there
- 13:05Speaker 5: going to be a KO? Will the ref stop it?
- 13:08Speaker 2: I prefer a fight to stop early than late.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Okay. If you give someone an extra round to show
- 13:13Speaker 3: something in the first 30 seconds of the round, I
- 13:16Speaker 3: can live with that.
- 13:17Speaker 2: But I'm more for early.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Stoppages than late stoppages because when it's early stoppage, people
- 13:22Speaker 3: are mad for a minute, but at the end of
- 13:24Speaker 3: the day, we're protecting someone's life. If they're getting beat
- 13:26Speaker 3: up and they can't actually defend themselves or it's looking bad,
- 13:29Speaker 3: I don't mind the plug being pulled. Unless it's like
- 13:32Speaker 3: a big, big title fight, right? If it's a big
- 13:34Speaker 3: title fight when Legacy's on the line, a little bit different.
- 13:37Speaker 3: But if it's like a regular fight, I like to say,
- 13:40Speaker 3: you know what, let's proceed on the side of caution
- 13:43Speaker 3: here and go from there.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and, you know, I'm not a professional. I'm not
- 13:48Speaker 5: in the ring. I see everything on TV. So, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 5: there's been times when I thought there's, the ref has
- 13:54Speaker 5: to stop this fight. He absolutely, there's no question. And
- 13:57Speaker 5: they don't. And I kind of worry, like, is everybody
- 14:01Speaker 5: going to walk out of this okay, you know?
- 14:03Speaker 4: Uh, but then there's that, you know, little, little area
- 14:06Speaker 4: of like, all right, I thought that that should be stopped,
- 14:08Speaker 4: but maybe it shouldn't. Maybe, you know, the ref really
- 14:12Speaker 4: had good judgment based on whether this guy could continue
- 14:14Speaker 4: or not. And if we go in that route and say,
- 14:17Speaker 4: I don't feel like, you know, that, uh, anybody's life
- 14:21Speaker 4: is in straight up danger. Again, that tension sort of
- 14:25Speaker 4: sustained over that long period. It just kind of reminds
- 14:28Speaker 4: me of why I love boxing in the first place.
- 14:29Speaker 4: It's like excitement and just, you never know what's going
- 14:31Speaker 4: to happen. uh and it's kind of the same thing
- 14:35Speaker 4: as when you get a early knockout of of an
- 14:37Speaker 4: upset if you got you know the big name the
- 14:39Speaker 4: favorite and he gets you know his ass whooped by
- 14:41Speaker 4: a lesser name in the first few rounds it's kind
- 14:43Speaker 4: of the same thing of like right holy shit i
- 14:46Speaker 4: did not expect that to go 12 rounds i did
- 14:48Speaker 4: not expect this guy to be on the ground you
- 14:49Speaker 4: know early but um but no i mean really i
- 14:53Speaker 4: had a really fun time watching that ended up uh
- 14:55Speaker 4: not going out and watching at home but um yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Props again to, to this merger between the zone and TNT,
- 15:02Speaker 4: this contract, it's just been so wonderful, especially when we
- 15:05Speaker 4: have bullshit, like we were just talking about, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 4: with your core and these big names, these big money backers,
- 15:12Speaker 4: Dana white, who's like the biggest name in, in combat.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Sports right now.
- 15:17Speaker 4: And then you got old TNT crushing it month after month,
- 15:21Speaker 4: you know, it's, it's, it's just been awesome to see. So, um,
- 15:25Speaker 4: didn't want to stick to, uh, stay too long on
- 15:27Speaker 4: that topic. I just want to get your take on,
- 15:29Speaker 4: on the stoppage, but, uh, moving on to a couple
- 15:32Speaker 4: of fighters that actually are professionals and get shit done
- 15:35Speaker 4: and get in the ring this Saturday. If you're listening
- 15:38Speaker 4: to this, when it comes out, it is October 24th. Uh,
- 15:40Speaker 4: we're going to see Emmanuel Navarrete versus Oshaki Foster. Very
- 15:45Speaker 4: excited about this fight ever since they announced it, a
- 15:47Speaker 4: mixed company fight, Mexican guy versus a black fighter. Uh,
- 15:51Speaker 4: not a mega fight by any means, but, uh, Let's
- 15:54Speaker 4: start here. Actually, Jameson, do you have the odds on
- 15:58Speaker 4: the fight between Navarrete and Foster?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I do.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So, according to Caesar's sportsbook, Foster is minus 170 to
- 16:07Speaker 3: win over Navarrete at plus 130. With that being said,
- 16:12Speaker 3: there's some different odds. So, if you want to bet
- 16:14Speaker 3: it going the distance, that's an overwhelming favorite at minus 320,
- 16:17Speaker 3: which means you got to put 320 to win 100 back. Um...
- 16:23Speaker 3: It is favored to go over 10 and a half rounds,
- 16:25Speaker 3: minus 400. I mean, you got to put up 400
- 16:28Speaker 3: to win 100 back on it going over 10 and
- 16:31Speaker 3: a half rounds. And then depending on who you think
- 16:33Speaker 3: is going to win. Now, already by decision is plus 300.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Maybe you get your 300 for every 100 you put up.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Or if you think Foster is going to win by decision,
- 16:48Speaker 3: it's basically even money. You put up 100 to get
- 16:50Speaker 3: 100 back. Those are like the main ones. The draw
- 16:55Speaker 3: is plus 1,400. So any fight that you think is
- 16:58Speaker 3: somewhat close, the draw is always there. It's not a
- 17:01Speaker 3: bad item. 1,400, put 102 on.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That, you have a good day. So it just depends
- 17:06Speaker 2: on what your situation is, but yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 5: What are the odds on the knockouts? Because both of
- 17:10Speaker 5: these guys are very aggressive fighters.
- 17:12Speaker 3: So for Neverett to win by a knockout, it's plus 425.
- 17:17Speaker 3: So meaning for every 100 you put, you get 425 back.
- 17:20Speaker 3: And for Foster to win by knockout, it's actually plus 480,
- 17:23Speaker 3: meaning you almost get 500 back for every 100 you
- 17:26Speaker 3: put up. So all powerful.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Good numbers.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'm stoked because, like I said, both these
- 17:34Speaker 4: guys are very aggressive, and none of them kind of
- 17:37Speaker 4: pussyfoot around the ring. Neither of them pussyfoot around the ring.
- 17:39Speaker 4: So I'm hoping that it's going to be very exciting.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And the styles will be very interesting because those of
- 17:44Speaker 4: you who've seen him on Luis Navarrete, you know, Mexican style,
- 17:47Speaker 4: very aggressive, not very polished. Oshaki Foster, aggressive but also
- 17:51Speaker 4: more technical. Definitely had some great performances. Also, I believe,
- 17:56Speaker 4: if I remember correctly, the last time he got a knockout,
- 17:59Speaker 4: but it was late, probably like round 11 or something
- 18:00Speaker 4: like that.
- 18:01Speaker 5: Navarrete is known for closing the show early. I've seen
- 18:05Speaker 5: him box live twice. Actually, I've interviewed Emmanuel Navarrete myself
- 18:10Speaker 5: at a media day.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Interviewed him in Spanish, mind you, because I can do both.
- 18:14Speaker 4: I don't see Max Kellerman doing that shit. But I
- 18:18Speaker 4: got to interview fighters in Spanish and English. But yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 4: so Navarrete, front of the show. A question for you.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Both of these are, I would say, recognizable names. Not
- 18:27Speaker 4: the biggest stars in boxing today, but very recognizable. Specifically
- 18:31Speaker 4: for black boxing fans, Navarrete is not somebody that's fought
- 18:35Speaker 4: a lot of Mexican fighters, Hispanic fighters, a Filipino fighter.
- 18:41Speaker 4: How does a Mexican fighter kind of become known to
- 18:44Speaker 4: the black community, the black fight fans, if he hasn't
- 18:47Speaker 4: really fought any black fighters?
- 18:49Speaker 3: Easy.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Knocking people out. That's the thing.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Winning decisively is how you gain fans off top. People
- 18:57Speaker 3: don't remember. Triple G had a lot of Mexican fans.
- 19:01Speaker 3: There's a lot of black.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Triple G fans as well.
- 19:03Speaker 3: A lot because he knocked folks out and his fighting
- 19:06Speaker 3: style was very fun to watch because.
- 19:08Speaker 2: He would engage a lot.
- 19:10Speaker 3: So people understand the biggest way to gain fans is
- 19:13Speaker 3: to fight an entertaining brand of boxing. That's the way.
- 19:17Speaker 3: That's the surefire way by far. So All that being said,
- 19:21Speaker 3: it's one of those things, man, where your boxing is
- 19:27Speaker 3: what sells. There's a reason why certain guys may not
- 19:30Speaker 3: be the best boxer ever, but they always sell out.
- 19:32Speaker 3: There's always people. They always have fans. That's just how
- 19:35Speaker 3: it goes. So, thought being said, being a knockout artist
- 19:39Speaker 3: is a surefire... I'll put it this way. It's a
- 19:41Speaker 3: reason why Tank has more fans than Haney and Shakur
- 19:44Speaker 3: come on. It's a reason why. And I'm not saying
- 19:47Speaker 3: who's a better boxer or whatever, but it's... just a
- 19:50Speaker 3: reason why. Tank knocks people out. He's known for being
- 19:53Speaker 3: a knockout artist. He's known for his fights being entertaining.
- 19:57Speaker 3: That's how you gain fans, not how great of a
- 19:59Speaker 3: boxer you are. That definitely does matter, but it's not
- 20:02Speaker 3: the end-all, be-all when it comes to casual people. The
- 20:05Speaker 3: casual person that knows of boxing knows who Tank Davis is.
- 20:10Speaker 2: That's the difference.
- 20:11Speaker 3: So knocking people out is what gets you fans across
- 20:15Speaker 3: the board, especially with us.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and you and I, you know, it's fair to
- 20:19Speaker 4: say that we have above average boxing knowledge when it
- 20:22Speaker 4: comes to just a regular spectator. So, you know, I
- 20:25Speaker 4: know I'm fans of boxers who are obviously Mexican.
- 20:27Speaker 5: But also black, you know, Asian, et cetera, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:30Speaker 4: But, you know, when I've seen Navarrete fight twice, I'm
- 20:33Speaker 4: in Tucson, I've gone to Phoenix, it's like 99% ass Mexicans.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Like, that's just what it is. That's who he brings out.
- 20:38Speaker 4: So I'm very curious as to like, you know, if
- 20:41Speaker 4: other communities, black communities, know Navarrete, follow him, if they're fans,
- 20:46Speaker 4: any of that. And it's just more, you know, kind of,
- 20:48Speaker 4: it's like your algorithm, right? You see kind of, you
- 20:51Speaker 4: make opinions based on what you see. And I'm in
- 20:53Speaker 4: a very, my life algorithm is based on Mexicans boxing
- 20:58Speaker 4: and being in Tucson.
- 20:59Speaker 5: And being in Arizona.
- 21:00Speaker 4: But no, I'd be, honestly, I don't even know what
- 21:04Speaker 4: to expect in this fight. Any other fight, I'm always
- 21:07Speaker 4: going to say 100%, Navarrete win, Navarrete knockout.
- 21:10Speaker 5: And haven't been wrong most of the time. But this one,
- 21:14Speaker 5: Shaki Foster.
- 21:15Speaker 4: He definitely has the technical skills, and we've seen Navarrete,
- 21:18Speaker 4: he lost to, not Madden, I'm sorry, the other Ukrainian
- 21:24Speaker 4: guy that Keyshawn Davis fought and put down in round four.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Navarrete had gone up in weight, just couldn't cut it,
- 21:33Speaker 4: went back down, no harm, no foul. But, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 4: he's not invincible by any means. And Shockey's an up-and-coming,
- 21:39Speaker 4: really big name that's.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Great in the ring.
- 21:42Speaker 5: So, I don't know. It might be my guy might
- 21:45Speaker 5: end up with another L.
- 21:47Speaker 4: After this weekend. So, do you have any idea of, like,
- 21:49Speaker 4: what to expect? Or is it just kind of... I
- 21:52Speaker 4: don't really know what to say.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's what the betting... Those are good odds.
- 21:57Speaker 3: That's actually, for the first fight we've had, that the
- 22:00Speaker 3: odds have been somewhat respectable in a long time. Probably
- 22:02Speaker 3: since the Canelo... Crawford fight, to be honest with you.
- 22:06Speaker 3: But that's like the first fight we've asked for odds
- 22:08Speaker 3: where it's been not a toss-up, but like a favorable
- 22:11Speaker 3: where it can go either way. You know, so that's cool.
- 22:13Speaker 3: That's good to see. Meaning that we should get a
- 22:15Speaker 3: good fight on Saturday.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I've been stoked for several weeks now. And yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 4: Navarrete lost to Denis Baranchuk. That was actually, I remember
- 22:25Speaker 4: that whole day. That was the day of the Fury-Usyk fight.
- 22:29Speaker 5: The first one, I believe.
- 22:30Speaker 4: It's also the day that I was out All day
- 22:32Speaker 4: I was in San Luis Obispo in California for a
- 22:35Speaker 4: friend's memorial.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Shout out to David Black, RIP. So I was there.
- 22:39Speaker 5: Couldn't watch the Fury fight, but I ended up at
- 22:41Speaker 5: a really.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Cool little dive-y sports bar. Or sorry, just dive bar,
- 22:45Speaker 4: where they had the fight back on when it was
- 22:46Speaker 4: on ESPN. So it was like really sad, really sad,
- 22:50Speaker 4: really sad.
- 22:51Speaker 5: And then I got to have some drinks and watch boxing.
- 22:53Speaker 4: So I was like, all right, you know, a little
- 22:54Speaker 4: something to break up the sadness of the day. But yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 4: at the end of the day, you know, Navarrete's my guy.
- 23:02Speaker 4: He's a friend of the show. I was honestly kind
- 23:05Speaker 4: of nervous to interview him because it was the biggest
- 23:08Speaker 4: name I'd interviewed in the sport. But if Shaki Foster wins,
- 23:13Speaker 4: I'm not going to be sad or like, oh, this
- 23:15Speaker 4: is bullshit. Because I'm expecting both of them to have
- 23:19Speaker 4: really aggressive, really strong showing in the fight. And yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 4: if Navarrete loses, respect to Foster. And hopefully it's one
- 23:29Speaker 4: of those that Hopefully it's not another goddamn draw. I'm
- 23:31Speaker 4: going to put money in a draw, but that's the
- 23:34Speaker 4: biggest thing that I worry about with two aggressive active
- 23:37Speaker 4: fighters that are evenly matched.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I'm just like, come on, give me something here. But
- 23:42Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 23:44Speaker 6: How much money should people put on a draw, do
- 23:46Speaker 6: you think, if just in case? Plus $ 1, 400. So like $ 50,
- 23:49Speaker 6: you just have $ 100 back. So things like that, $ 100,
- 23:52Speaker 6: you get your $ 1, 400 back. So it's not the worst
- 23:56Speaker 6: thing that can happen.
- 23:58Speaker 4: You know, if you can stand to lose 20, 30,
- 24:01Speaker 4: 50 bucks or whatever it is, you know, I've done
- 24:04Speaker 4: it many times. I've done like, you know, 10 bucks,
- 24:06Speaker 4: 20 bucks here and there. But with this fight, I
- 24:09Speaker 4: don't know. It's hard to gauge. But like I said,
- 24:11Speaker 4: when they have two aggressive fighters who can, you know,
- 24:15Speaker 4: take a lot of punishment as well, that's another thing.
- 24:18Speaker 4: You know, there's always a chance. So maybe you want
- 24:21Speaker 4: to do that. I'll be doing that for sure. But
- 24:23Speaker 4: at the end of the day, I am so stoked
- 24:24Speaker 4: for this fight. But yeah, next weekend, we'll give our
- 24:28Speaker 4: thoughts of the breakdown of the entire car. But that's
- 24:30Speaker 4: pretty much what we wanted to go over today. Jameson,
- 24:32Speaker 4: where can.
