Transcript
- 0:01Without even thinking about it, we are programmed to bargain
- 0:05with the Divine. We carry expectations.
- 0:09We want our desires to be fulfilled.
- 0:12We care about immediate and positive feedback for the
- 0:15efforts we are making in the sacrifices we are undergoing for
- 0:19the Divine. We will agree to devote
- 0:22ourselves to the Divine as long as the Divine is giving us back
- 0:26what we want. We want experiences, we want
- 0:30progress, we want support, we want consolation.
- 0:35We want to see noticeable results.
- 0:38When these disappear. Our faith also may disappear.
- 0:44This is the bargaining of the ego with the Divine.
- 0:47Much of it's subtle, but nevertheless it diminishes and
- 0:51waters down the self. Giving and the surrender.
- 0:55And then we wonder why we get less than optimal results.
- 1:01A pure self giving without bargaining implies a total
- 1:05faith, a total trust, a total absence of desire, a total
- 1:10acceptance of whatever comes, and a total and complete
- 1:15patience for however long things take.
- 1:19A complete perseverance to keep going without expectations, and
- 1:24a complete confidence that the Divine is not only in charge,
- 1:29but has a complete knowledge of what needs to be done, when it
- 1:33needs to be done, and how it needs to be done.
- 1:38What if there are no visible results?
- 1:41What if there is only struggle and effort and obstacles
- 1:44arising? What if there are no signs along
- 1:48the way? Can we hold our commitment?
- 1:53Can we continue unabated and unflagging in our devotion and
- 1:56consecration if we do not get any confirmation in a concrete
- 2:01form? This is something that is not
- 2:04perfected in the seeker overnight, but it is a status to
- 2:08which the seeker can aspire. The more complete the trust,
- 2:14faith and confidence, the less the seeker needs to struggle
- 2:18with self doubt, anxiety or fear of failure.
- 2:24Milarepa, even with his extraordinary devotion, became
- 2:29discouraged at one point and he began to doubt the teaching.
- 2:34He eventually succeeded, but only after much tribulation and
- 2:39inner suffering. Eventually he learned that there
- 2:43was a reason for the time, the difficulties, the obstacles, the
- 2:48delays and the anxiety as he had to burn off the karmic
- 2:53consequences of his prior history as a black magician who
- 2:58had committed grievous harm on others as an act of revenge,
- 3:03Srioro Bindo writes quote. Even if there is much darkness
- 3:10and this world is full of it, and the physical nature of man
- 3:14also, yet a ray of the true light can prevail eventually
- 3:19against a tenfold darkness. Believe that and cleave to it
- 3:24always. The core of the inner surrender
- 3:28is trust and confidence in the Divine. 1 takes the attitude.
- 3:33I want the Divine and nothing else.
- 3:36I want to give myself entirely to Him, and since my soul wants
- 3:40that it cannot be but that I shall meet and realize Him, I
- 3:46ask nothing but that and His action in me to bring me to Him,
- 3:51His action secret or open, veiled or manifest.
- 3:56I do not insist on my own time and way.
- 3:59Let Him do all in His own time and way.
- 4:03I shall believe in Him, accept His will, aspire steadily for
- 4:08His light and presence and joy, go through all difficulties and
- 4:12delays, relying on Him and never giving up.
- 4:17Let my mind be quiet and trust Him and let Him open it to His
- 4:22light. Let my vital be quiet and turn
- 4:25to Him alone and let Him open it to His calm and joy.
- 4:30All for him and myself for Him. Whatever happens, I will keep to
- 4:36this aspiration and self giving and go on in perfect reliance
- 4:41that it will be done. That is the attitude into which
- 4:46one must grow, for certainly it cannot be made perfect at once.
- 4:50Mental and vital movements come across, but if one keeps the
- 4:54will to it, it will grow in the being for those who have within
- 5:00them a sincere call for the Divine.
- 5:03However, the mind or vital may present difficulties or attacks
- 5:07come, or the progress be slow and painful, even if they fall
- 5:11back or fall away from the path for a time.
- 5:15The psychic always prevails in the end and the divine help
- 5:19proves effective. Trust in that and persevere,
- 5:25then the goal is sure. End Quote.
