- 0:02Speaker 1: Happy Monday too. Yet, Okay, what's so happy about it?
- 0:05Speaker 1: After all, it is Monday. Hey, there's several things to
- 0:08Speaker 1: get to today on the program that might make you feel.
- 0:11Speaker 2: A little bit better about you Monday.
- 0:12Speaker 1: At least we jump back into the routine, right, Good afternoon,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to the program here on Sports Medio AM thirteen hundred,
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Zone and where you can always listen to us
- 0:23Speaker 1: for free on the iHeartRadio app. My name is Craig Way.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Glad to have you alongside. Also pleased to be joined
- 0:30Speaker 1: by the producer Jay Carman. You had a relatively quiet weekend,
- 0:34Speaker 1: didn't you, or did you?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, it depends on how you define quiet. Okay, I
- 0:38Speaker 3: did have my back and forth with Houston, as I
- 0:40Speaker 3: do several weekends, okay, with my girlfriend Allison living there.
- 0:43Speaker 1: But how could we not pass, you know, ships passing
- 0:45Speaker 1: the night since I went down to Houston and came
- 0:47Speaker 1: back somehow we miss.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, must have been, must have been ships in the night.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Take the southern route or the northern route when you
- 0:53Speaker 1: went southern this time I did going down came back
- 0:56Speaker 1: the northern route last night.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Missed all that construction then.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there's there's there's plenty of it to go around,
- 1:03Speaker 1: that's for sure, okay, But otherwise, kind of a sedate weekend, right,
- 1:08Speaker 1: just chilling right.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Well, I did. I did have a bit of an
- 1:11Speaker 3: outing last night. I had planned this week's in advance
- 1:15Speaker 3: with a few of my fellow cinophile friends. We went
- 1:18Speaker 3: to the Bullock Imax Theater seventy milimeters there you go,
- 1:22Speaker 3: and the Christopher Nolan.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Fans that we are saw the Honesty last night and.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We were wild, okay, wild by the effects, wild by
- 1:30Speaker 1: the story, wild by all of it.
- 1:32Speaker 2: How how so wild all of it?
- 1:34Speaker 3: The sound, the theater was shaking, just the the epic
- 1:38Speaker 3: nature of some of those big set pieces. Okay, and
- 1:41Speaker 3: to think that almost none of it was was computer
- 1:43Speaker 3: generated was really cool.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Well that's true, that's true, and that's that's good. So
- 1:47Speaker 1: we were thinking about doing that ourselves. So we'll probably
- 1:49Speaker 1: get to that. Okay, here's what we have coming up
- 1:51Speaker 1: on the program today. You're gonna hear quite a bit
- 1:54Speaker 1: from Steve Sarkisian. Like Jacresan, both of us were in
- 1:58Speaker 1: Houston over the weekend, and I obviously had some duties
- 2:05Speaker 1: to perform for the Texas High school coaches Association. This
- 2:09Speaker 1: is the annual coaching school and convention that's going on.
- 2:14Speaker 1: There are in the neighborhood, and they were still registering
- 2:17Speaker 1: coaches this morning.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It may even be tomorrow.
- 2:21Speaker 1: There'd be in the neighborhood of seventeen thousand coaches down there.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I used to call it the largest convocation of bike
- 2:28Speaker 1: shorts and heat bomb in the days when coaches used
- 2:31Speaker 1: to wear those polyester bike shorts.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's not the case anymore, and thank goodness it isn't.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yeah right, but there's coaches down there, and I'll get
- 2:41Speaker 1: to some of the other sites and sounds of that
- 2:45Speaker 1: coming up in the four o'clock hour of the program.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But Steve Sarkisian was part of the football coaches that
- 2:53Speaker 1: are down there. All thirteen Division one FBS coaches were
- 2:56Speaker 1: down there at some point at least for one hour
- 2:59Speaker 1: and a half because I had him up on stage
- 3:02Speaker 1: with me. It was moderating a panel discussion that we
- 3:05Speaker 1: do every year. I've done it for twenty five years now,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and I really enjoy it. There's a lot of give
- 3:09Speaker 1: and take and a lot of real interesting stuff. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: you'll hear that coming up at the four o'clock hour however,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and also I did have a conversation with Sark independent
- 3:20Speaker 1: of that. It was more on the role that the
- 3:26Speaker 1: coaches have in coaching school and the convention and the
- 3:29Speaker 1: networking and the interaction that goes on. It wasn't about
- 3:33Speaker 1: his team that's coming this week. Because SEC Football Media
- 3:38Speaker 1: Days actually began this morning in Tampa among heavy, heavy,
- 3:41Speaker 1: heavy rain with the tropical depression up through that area.
- 3:45Speaker 1: We're scheduled to go out on Wednesday morning and we'll
- 3:50Speaker 1: be there Wednesday and Thursday. Texas will be at the
- 3:56Speaker 1: SEC Media Days on Thursday, and that's where I'll have
- 3:58Speaker 1: my annual sit down with Sark before during the Conference
- 4:03Speaker 1: Football Media Days, so that'll be more team directed. This
- 4:06Speaker 1: was more about the role of coaches and how they
- 4:09Speaker 1: get together. You'll hear that coming up at the four
- 4:11Speaker 1: o'clock hour as well, and also you'll hear some of
- 4:16Speaker 1: the excerpts from the panel discussion. As I mentioned, all
- 4:21Speaker 1: thirteen Division one FBS coaches were on that panel. Everyone
- 4:27Speaker 1: had comments about their program. Everyone was was tasked with
- 4:33Speaker 1: a question that I put to them. It wasn't questions
- 4:36Speaker 1: I came up with. It was questions that the Coach
- 4:38Speaker 1: Association came up with, so I hit all thirteen of
- 4:43Speaker 1: those coaches with a question and then all thirteen had
- 4:47Speaker 1: to talk about the advice they would give to high
- 4:50Speaker 1: school coaches. There were more than five hundred in the
- 4:52Speaker 1: room yesterday for that, so that's coming up in the
- 4:56Speaker 1: four o'clock hour. However, Sark also did a press conference,
- 5:01Speaker 1: a media availability, and we're going to have you hear
- 5:03Speaker 1: from that coming up in just a few moments.
- 5:05Speaker 2: All right, So there's that now the other things to
- 5:08Speaker 2: talk about.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We have a brand new World Cup champion for the
- 5:11Speaker 1: first time in sixteen years, Espanya winning it. Spain wins
- 5:17Speaker 1: the World Cups. You get a good chance to watch
- 5:19Speaker 1: the final.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I did. That's that's why you should it
- 5:22Speaker 3: up in your roja polo today.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah right, well no, actually, A'm wearing a red one
- 5:28Speaker 1: from the Texas High School Coach Association because they if
- 5:33Speaker 1: you are a member of the Coaches Association, and I
- 5:36Speaker 1: am also a member of it, I have a.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Membership in the Coach Association.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But in addition to that, they give me the polos
- 5:43Speaker 1: to where for the panel discussion and other activities. So
- 5:47Speaker 1: yesterday it was Royal Blue Day, so you wore the
- 5:51Speaker 1: blue and so didn't work for France, you know on Saturday,
- 5:54Speaker 1: you know, and their final way ended up working for
- 5:58Speaker 1: the English. So and then on Sunday it's red today. Anyway,
- 6:06Speaker 1: the polo colors changed from year to year, but it
- 6:08Speaker 1: was blue and red this year.
- 6:09Speaker 2: No Sunday red for time. Well you did go Sunday red,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I did, I did.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It was Sunday red yesterday, So there was that. So anyway,
- 6:18Speaker 1: Spain pulled it off. They got a victory.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, a well deserved victory. You have to say,
- 6:24Speaker 3: the way they controlled the game, Argentina, I just couldn't
- 6:27Speaker 3: get a lot of the ball. We were wondering how
- 6:30Speaker 3: high would they press, would they try to disrupt the
- 6:33Speaker 3: style of Spain completely, or would they sit back and
- 6:36Speaker 3: kind of wait for their opening and find a counter attack.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And I was hoping watching the game that somebody would
- 6:42Speaker 3: score early to kind of break up the flow of
- 6:44Speaker 3: what was a relatively monotonous game for a big part
- 6:49Speaker 3: of the first eighty minutes.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And then all hell broke loose.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah I did, all right, So so congratulations to Spain.
- 6:56Speaker 2: They win it.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Argentina runner rop well about the future of Linnel MESSI
- 7:02Speaker 1: if he decides that's it, that's his last one. He's
- 7:04Speaker 1: been kind of saying it off and on, but he's
- 7:06Speaker 1: been saying the last two or three World Cups. So
- 7:08Speaker 1: we'll see how that is going forward. And what a
- 7:12Speaker 1: crazy entertaining Saturday third place game for all the all
- 7:15Speaker 1: of the haranguing about third place games, and we talked
- 7:18Speaker 1: about it at length last week, that was the most
- 7:20Speaker 1: entertaining match of the entire tournament, that six' Four england
- 7:24Speaker 1: win Over france where it looked like they were blowing
- 7:26Speaker 1: them out Of miami four nil at the half and
- 7:29Speaker 1: all of a sudden it's four to three and they're,
- 7:31Speaker 1: like holy, cow what's going on?
- 7:33Speaker 3: Here the glorified, exhibition but one where we got to
- 7:36Speaker 3: see the biggest stars showing up. Again and is this
- 7:40Speaker 3: going to keep the third place game in THE Fifa
- 7:43Speaker 3: World cup? INDEFINITELY i still don't.
- 7:46Speaker 2: KNOW i don't. KNOW i still don't know what this.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Is they got In boppe the golden, boot, well but
- 7:52Speaker 1: how do we feel about?
- 7:53Speaker 3: That And bope scoring The golden boot clinching goals against
- 7:57Speaker 3: An england side that we're defending it probably half speed
- 8:00Speaker 3: in that.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Game, yeah it's score is a score you who was?
- 8:06Speaker 1: That Bill parcels says you, are which your record says
- 8:07Speaker 1: you are your the score is, Anyway so there's. That
- 8:11Speaker 1: we have The Open championship to, discuss and you'll hear
- 8:14Speaker 1: sound bites from the most unlikely of, winners perhaps thirty
- 8:18Speaker 1: nine year Old Ryan fox From New. Zealand in the
- 8:21Speaker 1: three o'clock, hour our regular golf Honk Cameron parker will
- 8:25Speaker 1: join us his thoughts not only on, that but the
- 8:28Speaker 1: two big rules controversies that Happened saturday to bryceon To
- 8:32Speaker 1: shambeau yesterday With Scotti.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Sheffer we'll get his thoughts on that as.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Well so we've got all of, that but, uh coming up,
- 8:42Speaker 1: next and we'll also take your questions. Too you, know
- 8:45Speaker 1: all you have to do, is you know you can
- 8:48Speaker 1: text the. Program text the word texts followed by your
- 8:50Speaker 1: question of comment to eight, one five three. Zero standard
- 8:54Speaker 1: messaging and data rates may.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Apply all.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Right up, next we're gonna hear from Long WARN's head
- 8:58Speaker 1: Coach Steve. Sarkeesian we cantinue here on Sports RADIO am
- 9:01Speaker 1: thirteen under the zone of The iHeartRadio.
- 9:03Speaker 4: App it's The Craig Wegg shop with The voice of
- 9:08Speaker 4: The Texas longhords In hall Of vaine Broadcaster Craig.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Here on A.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Monday The Texas High School Coach association's Annual Coaching school
- 9:26Speaker 1: And convention actually goes all the way through tomorrow when
- 9:30Speaker 1: they will elect their new president. Elect and the way
- 9:35Speaker 1: it works is they have their. Presidents the presidents are active.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Coaches the actual the man who is the executive director
- 9:44Speaker 1: of The Coach, associates he's called executive Vice. President he's
- 9:47Speaker 1: the executor Is Joe. Martin and by the, way Early,
- 9:51Speaker 1: august when he gets back from, vacation he's going to
- 9:53Speaker 1: join us to talk about a lot of the issues
- 9:56Speaker 1: that football, coaches college football, coaches high school football coaches are,
- 10:00Speaker 1: facing and of some of the issues that's going to
- 10:02Speaker 1: be coming up In.
- 10:02Speaker 2: August we'll visit With Joe martin to talk about.
- 10:04Speaker 1: That But Joe martin And Glenn, west they spearhead what
- 10:09Speaker 1: goes on with The Coaching Coaches association and their tremendous,
- 10:12Speaker 1: job and you, Know Becky adams And Chelsea miller and
- 10:17Speaker 1: all the rest of the staff do an incredible job
- 10:19Speaker 1: of putting on the whole of honor banquet and that's
- 10:23Speaker 1: that's one of the. Duties up before m see The
- 10:26Speaker 1: hall Of honor banquet where they inducted seven new members
- 10:30Speaker 1: of The Texas High School Coach Association hall Of, honor
- 10:32Speaker 1: Including Weldon, elms the highly decorated coach and Former Wimberley
- 10:37Speaker 1: texans head coach won two state titles At wimberley in
- 10:39Speaker 1: two thousand and five and twenty.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Eleven it was great to see Coach nelms.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Again, also there's great interaction with the college coaches in
- 10:47Speaker 1: the high school. Coaches AND i mentioned that panel discussion
- 10:50Speaker 1: and we'll get more into that coming up later in the.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Program But loalwarren's head, Coach Steve sarkeesian had a press.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Conference all of the coaches have individual press com conferences as,
- 11:00Speaker 1: well so sark had press conference AND u he started,
- 11:07Speaker 1: off Did stark with some comments when asked to make
- 11:10Speaker 1: an opening.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Statement SO i always.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Say this WHEN i WHEN i come to to coach a,
- 11:16Speaker 5: school this is kind of the to, me the kickoff
- 11:18Speaker 5: to football, season which is. Exciting you, know you get
- 11:22Speaker 5: here and you got what ten thousand or so high
- 11:25Speaker 5: school coaches and you see the collective knowledge and support
- 11:32Speaker 5: and love for our game and you see all the
- 11:35Speaker 5: colleges here and everybody. Here but this to me is
- 11:37Speaker 5: the kind of the kickoff to the, season even though
- 11:40Speaker 5: we don't really start Until august, FIFTH i think is
- 11:43Speaker 5: our first. Practice But i'll leave Here, THURSDAY i go
- 11:46Speaker 5: TO Sec Media days and get to talk about our
- 11:49Speaker 5: team and which it Starts. Monday it's a four day,
- 11:52Speaker 5: event and then we got about another week and then
- 11:55Speaker 5: we go to training. Camp and so this is always
- 11:57Speaker 5: kind of that that time of the year when it
- 12:00Speaker 5: just is the reminder that football's, here, right it's kind
- 12:03Speaker 5: of it's in the. Air it's exciting. Time you, know
- 12:06Speaker 5: football in the state Of, texas as we all, know
- 12:08Speaker 5: is a, religion and there's a lot of there's a
- 12:11Speaker 5: lot of coaches walking around The Convention center right, now
- 12:14Speaker 5: this this, weekend these next few days that are all
- 12:16Speaker 5: believing their team can be a.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Champion and that's a great feeling to. Have and we're no.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Different and so it's it's exciting time and it's always
- 12:23Speaker 5: fun to be.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Here, Next sark was asked about the impact that high
- 12:28Speaker 1: school coaches have on young athletes and, communities because, yes
- 12:33Speaker 1: college coaches have an, impact but the high school coaches
- 12:36Speaker 1: are right there with the student athletes and how they developed,
- 12:39Speaker 1: them And sark was asked about that.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Impact, YEAH i think first and foremost as, coaches we
- 12:47Speaker 5: we bear a major responsibility when it comes to the
- 12:50Speaker 5: development of young people in our society and how we
- 12:56Speaker 5: how do we develop. Them we develop them a lot
- 12:58Speaker 5: of them through. Sport but it's not just through, sport
- 13:02Speaker 5: whether it's on the, field on the, corridor in the.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Pool it's through sport in the discipline and the commitment
- 13:08Speaker 5: that it takes to be successful in that. Sport but
- 13:13Speaker 5: the life lessons that are learned through, SPORT i think
- 13:16Speaker 5: are what ultimately carry our young people into society where
- 13:19Speaker 5: they can go be.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Successful and so it's a great.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Responsibility and those that choose to be part of this,
- 13:25Speaker 5: profession you, KNOW i appreciate all that they, do and you,
- 13:30Speaker 5: know we get a small small percentage of those that
- 13:33Speaker 5: come on and play for, us and so those that
- 13:35Speaker 5: do it at the high school, level you, know just
- 13:37Speaker 5: don't lose sight of the fact that you're impacting. Society
- 13:40Speaker 5: and the competitive nature and the competitive spirit that's needed
- 13:46Speaker 5: at the high school level to win in the state
- 13:47Speaker 5: Of texas is one thing but to win in life
- 13:50Speaker 5: is a whole other. Thing so very appreciative of all
- 13:52Speaker 5: that that do that are part of this profession and
- 13:57Speaker 5: contribute to our.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Society, Next sark was asked about running backs you see
- 14:03Speaker 1: in THE. Nfl we know the life expectancy of a running.
- 14:06Speaker 1: BACK i THINK i at the last check was three
- 14:08Speaker 1: point four seasons and. So but the usefulness of the
- 14:12Speaker 1: running back has always been a big part of what
- 14:15Speaker 1: goes on with a college. Game, however the question was
- 14:18Speaker 1: put To sark about star running backs getting fewer carries
- 14:21Speaker 1: now than in past seasons and the changing dynamics of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the offense that have led to.
- 14:27Speaker 5: That, WELL i think offenses have, changed. Right you can
- 14:34Speaker 5: go back fifty, years you, know to when it was
- 14:37Speaker 5: a run. Heavy offenses were run. Heavy it just was
- 14:43Speaker 5: what it, was and whether it was the triple, option,
- 14:46Speaker 5: wishbone whatever, style the run game was such an important
- 14:50Speaker 5: part of what people. Did and then there was this
- 14:53Speaker 5: evolution to the passing, game AND i was fortunate enough
- 14:56Speaker 5: to play for one of the pioneers of that In Lavelle,
- 14:58Speaker 5: edwards and that then spread and The West coast offense
- 15:02Speaker 5: With Bill walsh became a huge component and then the
- 15:06Speaker 5: run and shoot started to to, grow and then the
- 15:11Speaker 5: air raid, grew and more and more passing offenses, became
- 15:15Speaker 5: and the game of football went very pass, heavy and
- 15:19Speaker 5: the running back was still the one component to. It,
- 15:23Speaker 5: well then came the read option part of offensive football
- 15:27Speaker 5: that went with these passing, games and so now the
- 15:29Speaker 5: quarterbacks started taking some of the carries from the running
- 15:34Speaker 5: backs when you were calling. Runs and so when you
- 15:37Speaker 5: just looked at the volume of what running backs were
- 15:39Speaker 5: required to do fifty years ago to where to maybe
- 15:43Speaker 5: where we, were you, know you, know three four years,
- 15:45Speaker 5: ago it's a drastic. DIFFERENCE i do think where running
- 15:48Speaker 5: backs have evolved, THOUGH i think throwing the ball to
- 15:52Speaker 5: the running back has been a huge component to what
- 15:55Speaker 5: a lot of people have done. Now and SO i
- 15:56Speaker 5: think running backs for a long time in THE, nfl you,
- 15:59Speaker 5: know they didn't have a lot of, Value but if
- 16:02Speaker 5: you look at THE nfl now that that value is
- 16:04Speaker 5: starting to incrementally work its way back, up because you've
- 16:07Speaker 5: got runners now that are really multi, faceted and you,
- 16:10Speaker 5: know whether It's christian, McCaffrey Saquon, Barkley Jean, Robinson Jamier,
- 16:15Speaker 5: gibbs these types of backs that can play all three,
- 16:18Speaker 5: downs that can line up behind the quarterback that can be,
- 16:21Speaker 5: offset and the gun that can split out play wide.
- 16:24Speaker 5: Receiver they are creating value for. Themselves but there's a
- 16:27Speaker 5: bit of a trickle down effect to that. TOO i
- 16:29Speaker 5: think we're doing more of those types of things we're
- 16:32Speaker 5: understanding now that you, know quite, frankly there's agents, involved
- 16:36Speaker 5: and they don't you, know a lot of these guys
- 16:39Speaker 5: don't want as much wear and tear, on you, know
- 16:41Speaker 5: off their tires because they're trying to get themselves with
- 16:44Speaker 5: an opportunity to get to THE nfl and get to
- 16:46Speaker 5: the second, contract and so just being mindful of those.
- 16:49Speaker 5: Things BUT i think a lot of that varies on the.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Runner and you know that the the guy that was
- 16:57Speaker 5: six' too two and twenty pounds back, the day who.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Was, the biggest one of the biggest guys in your
- 17:02Speaker 2: team used to be the.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Running back and nowadays those aren't the guys that are
- 17:06Speaker 5: playing Running back at the high. School level those guys
- 17:08Speaker 5: are playing, defensive end they're rushing, the passer they're playing,
- 17:11Speaker 5: h back. Tight end the running backs, are smaller more scatback.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Oriented players when you find THOSE players i think we
- 17:19Speaker 5: all would say if we were fortunate to have a
- 17:21Speaker 5: guy built, like That The adrian peterson's of, the, world
- 17:24Speaker 5: Right The ricky williams of, the world you give them
- 17:26Speaker 5: the ball because they can withstand the wear and tear
- 17:29Speaker 5: of what that, looks like no different. Than SHE when
- 17:31Speaker 5: i Was at alabama We Had. NAJI harris i don't
- 17:33Speaker 5: know how many carries he had for, two years but
- 17:35Speaker 5: it was. A lot, you know we gave him. The
- 17:37Speaker 5: Ball when beijan, was here we gave the ball. A
- 17:39Speaker 5: lot and so when you have a certain style, OF
- 17:41Speaker 5: back i think you do lean. INTO it i just
- 17:44Speaker 5: don't think the there's as much volume and inventory for
- 17:48Speaker 5: those types of. Players anymore and so when you, get
- 17:51Speaker 5: one sure. It's GREAT but i think nowadays when you're
- 17:53Speaker 5: looking at just the stature, of runners you know they're
- 17:57Speaker 5: built a little bit differently today.
- 17:58Speaker 2: As Well going once.
- 18:02Speaker 1: You knew That coach sark was not going to be
- 18:06Speaker 1: not asked about the Development Surrounding. Cole hudson you may
- 18:09Speaker 1: have heard the the former long run offensive lineman who
- 18:13Speaker 1: is now trying to get clearance to have a fifth
- 18:17Speaker 1: season because of the new five for, five rule And
- 18:21Speaker 1: so sark, was asked was.
- 18:22Speaker 2: There an Update On cole hudson and what about that five?
- 18:24Speaker 5: For, five yeah, YOU know i Think with, cole situation
- 18:28Speaker 5: obviously we've we're, monitoring IT and I don't i don't
- 18:33Speaker 5: know where it's. Gonna go, YOU know i think we've
- 18:35Speaker 5: all seen over the past, few years there's been a
- 18:38Speaker 5: lot of lawsuits that have been filed and piggybacking off of,
- 18:42Speaker 5: other lawsuits so on and. So forth and, You know
- 18:44Speaker 5: cole's a guy with a lot, of experience played a
- 18:46Speaker 5: lot of football, for us and, you know he's a
- 18:48Speaker 5: guy that that unfortunately didn't, get drafted and so he
- 18:52Speaker 5: puts himself in a bit of a different situation than
- 18:56Speaker 5: maybe most guys that got, done playing, you know their
- 18:58Speaker 5: fourth year. In college so we'll see what looks like
- 19:00Speaker 5: and see where. It goes, YOU know i think with
- 19:02Speaker 5: the five for, five now. IT'S interesting i was just
- 19:05Speaker 5: talking To, coach trailor, you know he's got the oldest
- 19:07Speaker 5: team in, the country, YOU know utsa, this FALL and
- 19:11Speaker 5: i think we are still and we made a conscious
- 19:14Speaker 5: effort this year to try to, get older, you know
- 19:16Speaker 5: from where we were a. YEAR ago i still think
- 19:18Speaker 5: WE'RE like i, don't know fourth or fifth youngest team in,
- 19:21Speaker 5: the country, you Know AND georgia i still think is
- 19:24Speaker 5: the youngest team in. The COUNTRY and I know kirby
- 19:26Speaker 5: was trying to make a conscious effort to try to
- 19:28Speaker 5: get a little bit older and seeing the Effect that indiana's,
- 19:31Speaker 5: you know team had a. Year AGO so i think
- 19:34Speaker 5: one way you can try to get a little older
- 19:36Speaker 5: is trying to keep and retain your players that have
- 19:38Speaker 5: been in your program for that fourth and that, fifth
- 19:41Speaker 5: year which is tough. To do, you know we probably
- 19:44Speaker 5: this year probably had the most players leave to go into.
- 19:47Speaker 5: The portal we tried to replace those players with more veteran,
- 19:51Speaker 5: type PLAYERS and i think we. DID that i think
- 19:54Speaker 5: we had ended up ultimately signing twenty, two transfers a
- 20:00Speaker 5: lot of them, with experience not all. Of them but
- 20:03Speaker 5: but at the end of, the day, YOU know i
- 20:04Speaker 5: think that's where the five for five.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Can play and can, you retain can?
- 20:08Speaker 5: You keep can you can you sign players with long
- 20:11Speaker 5: term goals and Aspirations, of man this guy's a, developmental player,
- 20:15Speaker 5: you know by year three of trying to, you know
- 20:18Speaker 5: foreshadow of what this guy. Could BECOME and i think
- 20:20Speaker 5: so much of recruiting right now is about. Immediate IMPACT
- 20:25Speaker 5: and i think where we're at as a state of
- 20:26Speaker 5: a program is that we're, getting variable, varying players some
- 20:30Speaker 5: that may have, immediate impact some that we're trying to
- 20:33Speaker 5: project from a developmental standpoint of what they can look
- 20:35Speaker 5: like down. The ROAD and i think that's where that
- 20:37Speaker 5: fifth year can play. AN impact i think also where
- 20:40Speaker 5: the five for five, plays in you just don't you
- 20:43Speaker 5: just don't fall prey to now of making those tough
- 20:46Speaker 5: decisions with that, freshman player and and you can get
- 20:49Speaker 5: them on the field on, special teams you can. Play them,
- 20:52Speaker 5: you know you don't feel like you're getting burned if
- 20:54Speaker 5: he plays a snap of kickoff return and then next thing, you.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Know you he loses.
- 20:58Speaker 5: A year you all so don't run into it with,
- 21:01Speaker 5: you know when you take a transfer and he still
- 21:05Speaker 5: has a red shirt available and through, three games maybe
- 21:08Speaker 5: he didn't think he was having the impact that he
- 21:10Speaker 5: thought he was going to have in your program where
- 21:12Speaker 5: he kind, of, Says hey i'd like, to wait AND if,
- 21:14Speaker 5: I play i only want to play out of Necessity
- 21:17Speaker 5: and i'd rather try to preserve. My year so you
- 21:19Speaker 5: don't run into those kind of tough conversations and now
- 21:22Speaker 5: it's just. About development play the guys when you can
- 21:24Speaker 5: play him and see how good you can get him
- 21:26Speaker 5: as fast as you can.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Get them sark was then asked about the dual purpose
- 21:33Speaker 1: and function that he serves being not only the head
- 21:35Speaker 1: coach AND the ceo of, the program but also the.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Play caller and if You've heard sark in, the past
- 21:41Speaker 1: he's adamant about handling the play. Calling duties as, he
- 21:46Speaker 1: said IT'S something i can do well AND something i want.
- 21:49Speaker 1: To do so he's asked about the ups, and downs
- 21:51Speaker 1: the pluses and minuses of being both the head coach
- 21:54Speaker 1: and the.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Play, caller yeah, YOU know i think. You know one
- 21:58Speaker 2: of the advantages.
- 21:59Speaker 5: FOR me i definitely have a real connection with our
- 22:02Speaker 5: Players because i'm in and around them every. Single day
- 22:06Speaker 5: i'm coaching, These guys i'm, Installing plays i'm, around them
- 22:10Speaker 5: we're talking, Game plans i'm doing. Those THINGS so i
- 22:12Speaker 5: think from a connection standpoint THAT helps i think on
- 22:15Speaker 5: game day of trying to manage the game and control
- 22:20Speaker 5: the game of when you want to, speed up maybe
- 22:22Speaker 5: when you want to, slow down, you know when you
- 22:25Speaker 5: go forward on all, fourth down when you don't the
- 22:27Speaker 5: impact that that can have on your team if you,
- 22:29Speaker 5: make it if you don't make it feel position with,
- 22:32Speaker 5: the defense things of.
- 22:33Speaker 2: That nature so that's obviously. VERY helpful i.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Think one of the areas where it can be difficult
- 22:39Speaker 5: is trusting those guys, on defense, you know Because if
- 22:42Speaker 5: i'm trying to make adjustments on the offensive side of
- 22:45Speaker 5: the ball, between series is having trust in the defensive
- 22:48Speaker 5: coaches that they've got a good grasp of what we're
- 22:50Speaker 5: doing and if a, timeouts needed why you know what
- 22:53Speaker 5: that situation, looks like things of. That nature AND so
- 22:57Speaker 5: i think to your, point that like, for me it's
- 22:58Speaker 5: Great having Will mus, champ back a guy who's been
- 23:01Speaker 5: been a, you know a head coach twice In The.
- 23:03Speaker 5: SOUTHEASTERN conference i think, his understanding his ability to really.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Lead, young men uh and in our locker room is big.
- 23:10Speaker 5: For me is huge. For ME but, i don't, you
- 23:13Speaker 5: know this is the ONLY way i. Know it, You
- 23:14Speaker 5: know i've never done it any. Other WAY and i
- 23:17Speaker 5: grew up in, the profession profession with a guy that
- 23:20Speaker 5: did it that way. As Well And, pete carroll you
- 23:22Speaker 5: he called. The defense and, you KNOW when i went
- 23:24Speaker 5: to The. Oaklen raiders early in, My Career north turner
- 23:26Speaker 5: was a. Head coach he called the plays and so
- 23:29Speaker 5: that's this is just kind of THE way i learned
- 23:31Speaker 5: it and THE way i grew up in. The profession
- 23:32Speaker 5: and obviously there's a there's a lot of ways to,
- 23:34Speaker 5: do it and then there's a lot of successful ways to.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Do it but this is just the way THAT that
- 23:38Speaker 5: i learned how to. Do it and, YOU know i
- 23:41Speaker 5: feel like we manage. It well i've got really good people,
- 23:43Speaker 5: around ME which i think is important from an offensive,
- 23:46Speaker 5: staff perspective a, defensive staff a, training staff because all
- 23:50Speaker 5: those facets are really important on. Game day and then
- 23:55Speaker 5: from a, recruiting standpoint you got to surround yourself with
- 23:57Speaker 5: really good, people too because, You know i'm not the
- 23:59Speaker 5: head coach that can sit around every night and call recruits,
- 24:02Speaker 5: for two three and.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Four hours, You Know i'm i'm.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Game planning, You know i'm in with the, offensive staff
- 24:07Speaker 5: and so trusting our recruiting department and and them to
- 24:11Speaker 5: to forge some of those relationships and being ORGANIZED when
- 24:14Speaker 5: i do call throughout THE week i think is also
- 24:17Speaker 5: vitally important to. It all but that's just our structure
- 24:20Speaker 5: and whether it's how unique, OR not i, don't know
- 24:23Speaker 5: because this is just the WAY that i know how to.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Do it there's been changes obviously With the longhorn roster do,
- 24:29Speaker 1: to graduations departures through the portal and additions through, the
- 24:34Speaker 1: Portal Like, lawrence seymour who would appear to be the
- 24:37Speaker 1: lead candidate at left guard the Transfer From, western Kentucky
- 24:41Speaker 1: and sark was asked about the Addition of seymour and
- 24:43Speaker 1: the process of getting those additional summer entries into the
- 24:49Speaker 1: program up.
- 24:50Speaker 2: To, SPEED yeah I. Think lawrence lawrence has done.
- 24:53Speaker 5: Really well, You Know i've i've been impressed, with him
- 24:57Speaker 5: and his body has, changed already which which. Is big
- 25:01Speaker 5: you know of our style of summer conditioning and what that,
- 25:04Speaker 5: looks LIKE and i think that he's really responded well.
- 25:06Speaker 5: To that and, you know the connectivity with the other
- 25:08Speaker 5: offensive linemen and the fundamental work that we get. To do,
- 25:13Speaker 5: you know time WILL tell i was lineman is difficult in.
- 25:16Speaker 5: The summertime we're an underware of of what it's really
- 25:18Speaker 5: going to. Look like we'll find out a lot in,
- 25:20Speaker 5: training camp especially kind of we when we get into the,
- 25:23Speaker 5: second week when we're really in full pads and we're,
- 25:25Speaker 5: getting going but, so far so good. WITH him i
- 25:28Speaker 5: just think this is a unique year from a. Portal,
- 25:32Speaker 5: perspective obviously the amount of players that WENT in i
- 25:35Speaker 5: think was over ten thousand players or some some crazy.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Astronomical number and in our situation In The, southeastern conference
- 25:43Speaker 5: we went from eighty five scholarships to one hundred and.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Five scholarships and you know when you when you, DO
- 25:50Speaker 5: that i mean you.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Try to grow your your.
- 25:52Speaker 5: Scholarship pool the portal is a good way to find
- 25:55Speaker 5: to find players, that SOME like, i said can have an.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Immediate impact some we're seeing a little bit of the
- 26:01Speaker 5: force through the trees of what.
- 26:02Speaker 2: It might look like down, the road and they provide
- 26:04Speaker 2: some depth.
- 26:05Speaker 5: For us and some of these guys are just experienced
- 26:07Speaker 5: players and maybe they didn't play AT the p, four
- 26:09Speaker 5: level but, they were but they were players, for, two
- 26:13Speaker 5: three four years at maybe some lower level schools that
- 26:16Speaker 5: they can provide, some maturity some experience to their approach
- 26:20Speaker 5: to to what.
- 26:22Speaker 2: They do so we've kind of attacked it at a.
- 26:24Speaker 5: Lot of, different areas and again we're still not up
- 26:27Speaker 5: to one hundred.
- 26:27Speaker 2: AND five i said this jokingly at.
- 26:29Speaker 5: A presser i don't know if we'll ever get to
- 26:30Speaker 5: one hundred, and five, you know but we're trying.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And again but but, you know.
- 26:37Speaker 5: As our adage, always is we never want to sacrifice character,
- 26:39Speaker 5: for talent and so getting to know these guys and
- 26:42Speaker 5: their impact that they'll have on our team not only
- 26:44Speaker 5: on the field but in our locker room on, OUR
- 26:47Speaker 5: campus i think is as important to us.
- 26:49Speaker 1: As anything we'll hear more from start in the three,
- 26:52Speaker 1: o'clock hour and and then in the four o'clock hour
- 26:55Speaker 1: my conversation with him and from the panel discussion that
- 26:59Speaker 1: he partic have paid. It in so we'll do all
- 27:01Speaker 1: that Up next inconceivable On a monday afternoon On SPORTS
- 27:04Speaker 1: medio am thirteen Under the zone Of the.
- 27:06Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app.
- 27:21Speaker 1: The second hour of the program here On SPORTS medio
- 27:23Speaker 1: am thirteen Under the zone'm glad to have you With Us,
- 27:25Speaker 1: Autumn Monday craig way with. You here we heard quite
- 27:31Speaker 1: a Bit from longrren's Head Coach steve sarcasian that was
- 27:33Speaker 1: from a news conference that he did at. Coaching school
- 27:38Speaker 1: we've got a couple more comments from him that we'll
- 27:41Speaker 1: hear a little later on this hour in the four,
- 27:43Speaker 1: o'clock hour you'll get to hear start from the panel
- 27:46Speaker 1: DISCUSSION that i had the chance to moderate yesterday and.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Very enjoyable it's always really interesting to hear those thirteen
- 27:56Speaker 1: guys up, on Stage thirteen division one head FOOTBALL coaches
- 28:02Speaker 1: fbs coaches and their their. Various perspectives, it WAS like,
- 28:11Speaker 1: i said the comic relief Is Always jeff TRAILER. At
- 28:13Speaker 1: utsa he's the one who said at the end when
- 28:17Speaker 1: they were all asked for advice that they would give the, coaches,
- 28:20Speaker 1: SAID well i would tell you my new girlfriend has
- 28:25Speaker 1: BEEN chat gpt of ladies, SAID so i would be
- 28:27Speaker 1: careful doing that.
- 28:29Speaker 2: As well, All.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Right but the other big things of the Weekend The
- 28:33Speaker 1: world cup final, finished yesterday as Did The, open championship
- 28:37Speaker 1: and Are On cameron, parker's here who is a big devotee.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Of both by, the way let me start with The
- 28:42Speaker 1: With world cup.
- 28:43Speaker 2: As.
- 28:43Speaker 1: WELL uh I know jake said something about there was
- 28:48Speaker 1: somebody you had on a soccer person Who said spain very, early, On, Right.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yeah eric goodman From, the CHRONICLE who I think cameron
- 28:56Speaker 3: had on, as well filling in over the.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Morning, side yeah, he was, He was he Was on
- 29:00Speaker 1: spain right from. THE start, i mean they were impressive from,
- 29:03Speaker 1: the start other than the tie they had but With,
- 29:08Speaker 1: cape verdi but by, and large they've, been very. Very
- 29:12Speaker 1: solid and it's the first time What In world cup
- 29:14Speaker 1: history that a team was conceded only one goal in the,
- 29:19Speaker 1: entire tournament and it's a forty, eighteen tournament.
- 29:22Speaker 6: No, LESS yeah i Felt, like spain a very young team,
- 29:26Speaker 6: going in got better with each game. They played you
- 29:30Speaker 6: mentioned the early draw that was kind, of shocking, And,
- 29:33Speaker 6: like okay Maybe this spain team just isn't ready. For,
- 29:36Speaker 6: it obviously you Mean lam all a big piece, of
- 29:39Speaker 6: that but he's only nineteen, years old maybe just not
- 29:42Speaker 6: Ready for but every game they got better, and better
- 29:44Speaker 6: and they took down the TEAM that i thought was
- 29:48Speaker 6: going to win and obviously, The, favorite france and not
- 29:51Speaker 6: onely They. Beat france they were the better team in,
- 29:54Speaker 6: that match and they were the better team for most of.
- 29:56Speaker 6: The Match against, argentina yesterday it just Felt like argentina
- 29:59Speaker 6: might be this Team of dea and they just find
- 30:01Speaker 6: a way and they play so physical and aggressive and
- 30:04Speaker 6: it took them into the second period of extra time
- 30:06Speaker 6: to get, that goal but they deservely so got. That
- 30:09Speaker 6: GOAL and i think the best team In The world,
- 30:12Speaker 6: Cup won so Congrats. TO sapain i don't know, about
- 30:15Speaker 6: y'all but THAT was i mean a ten out of
- 30:17Speaker 6: Ten Yor, old cup, no notes that. Was great, you
- 30:20Speaker 6: know if we can give a lot of CRAP the
- 30:21Speaker 6: fifa for a lot of the things, they do but
- 30:23Speaker 6: expanding the tournament turned out to be the.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Right move.
- 30:25Speaker 6: YOU know i think we're a little bit worried about
- 30:27Speaker 6: is it's going to weather Down The. WORLD cup i
- 30:29Speaker 6: think it made it. Even, better, YEAH.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah, i agree and it was it was something ELSE
- 30:35Speaker 1: and i, you KNOW and fifa officials, have said don't
- 30:40Speaker 1: count out the possibility could.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Go to a Sixty.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Fourteen brex sixty fourteen seems to be the magic number
- 30:44Speaker 1: when it comes to bracketing because OF the ncaa basketball tournament.
- 30:48Speaker 1: As WELL and, I know i know there's going to
- 30:52Speaker 1: be naysayers who say it's, water down Just like i'm
- 30:55Speaker 1: Even Remember bob costas talking about how the wild card
- 30:59Speaker 1: was Bad for bay and all this other kind. OF
- 31:01Speaker 1: stuff i have tremendous Respect For bob costas and his
- 31:06Speaker 1: history and knowledge of the game, and all but he
- 31:07Speaker 1: was flat dead wrong about. The wildcard the wildcard adds
- 31:11Speaker 1: more interest. To baseball it doesn't diminish the regular season
- 31:15Speaker 1: because you have to perform well enough in the regular
- 31:18Speaker 1: season to, get in and once you, get in then,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you know all bets are off at. That POINT and
- 31:23Speaker 1: i think it would be the same For The. WORLD
- 31:25Speaker 1: cup i think, so too and we're about to see
- 31:28Speaker 1: this WITH the. NCAA tournament i think it's a different
- 31:30Speaker 1: argument Obviously than baseball in their, wild CARD because i
- 31:34Speaker 1: think some of the teams that are on the bubble
- 31:36Speaker 1: FOR the, ncaa tournament but then you Look, at texas
- 31:38Speaker 1: who gets in as the first four team and is a,
- 31:41Speaker 1: point away two points away from Reaching the. Elite eight
- 31:44Speaker 1: so all this concern about it watering down the Tournament's The,
- 31:48Speaker 1: WORLD Cup, mlb BASEBALL the. Ncaa tournament it's worked out. So, far,
- 31:53Speaker 1: YEAH yeah i. Totally, agree okay let's go To The.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Open championship i'm going to get to the, goofy stuff
- 32:01Speaker 1: the rules things in. A moment but, FIRST first i
- 32:06Speaker 1: texted you guys yesterday as watching in my, hotel room
- 32:10Speaker 1: RIGHT before i headed over back over to the. CONVENTION
- 32:13Speaker 1: center i said when we All Had ryan fox in, the.
- 32:15Speaker 1: POOL right I mean i don't know of any measure
- 32:19Speaker 1: ANYWHERE when i looked, at anything whether IT Was pga
- 32:23Speaker 1: tour dot com Or the open dot, COM er espn
- 32:26Speaker 1: or any of the other outlets where even as a,
- 32:29Speaker 1: Dark Course ryan fox's name.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Even appeared did you see?
- 32:33Speaker 6: IT anywhere i DON'T think i saw him as a
- 32:37Speaker 6: dark course. Or sleeper but the way this course was,
- 32:41Speaker 6: set up it was firm, and fast and you know
- 32:45Speaker 6: that does play to a certain type of golf specifically
- 32:50Speaker 6: kind of you know in That sun belt region Down,
- 32:53Speaker 6: In Australia. New, zealand Right And Ryan fox Akiwi From.
- 32:57Speaker 6: New zealand you know they're kind of used to that type.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Of.
- 32:59Speaker 6: Golf right this is not YOUR Typical pga tour event
- 33:02Speaker 6: where you have high rough or it's just, you know
- 33:05Speaker 6: you bomb at three hundred and twenty yards and you
- 33:07Speaker 6: flip a wedge end and you have, you know six feet.
- 33:10Speaker 5: For.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Birdie right this was a thinking man's, golf.
- 33:12Speaker 6: Tournament right you had, to execute you had to have,
- 33:14Speaker 6: a strategy you had to, make Putts And.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Ryan fox made over four hundred feet worth of putts in.
- 33:20Speaker 6: This tournament, but yeah it's kind of a out of,
- 33:23Speaker 6: nowhere result Just Like aaron rye WINNING. The, PGA right
- 33:27Speaker 6: i Don't Think ryan fox had a top ten in a.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Major championship he's, won before but he's never top ten
- 33:32Speaker 6: at a. Major championship, for yeah to think t sixteen at.
- 33:36Speaker 6: One point so comes In and i'll tell. You what
- 33:39Speaker 6: it wasn't gifted. To him he wasn't crowned. This week
- 33:42Speaker 6: he went out and he took that golf tournament and
- 33:44Speaker 6: the last three Holes, ON sunday i think proved, it,
- 33:47Speaker 6: Yesterday Right bertie parr, birdie finished including birding one of
- 33:51Speaker 6: the toughest holes on the, golf tournament an eighteenth hole
- 33:53Speaker 6: that We Saw scotti scheffler make a bogie when he
- 33:56Speaker 6: could have made birdie to get himself into maybe a
- 33:59Speaker 6: Tie With cam you And Then, cam young who was at,
- 34:02Speaker 6: ten under ends up making. Bogie Too But ryan fox
- 34:05Speaker 6: goes Out. NEEDED bertie i don't think anyone expected him to.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Make birdie it was such a, tough hole but he went,
- 34:09Speaker 6: out there he made. The button how, About this it
- 34:12Speaker 6: took him twenty two Seconds After sam burns tapped in
- 34:15Speaker 6: for par to hit that. Winning Butt ryan fox does not.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Mess around he's kind of the antithesis of what we
- 34:24Speaker 6: see now at a lot of, professional, golfers right very.
- 34:26Speaker 6: Buttoned up, you know they want to see all, the angles,
- 34:29Speaker 6: you know the aim point.
- 34:31Speaker 2: All This ryan fox seaball. Hit.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Ball yeah he gives a new meaning to the term
- 34:36Speaker 1: ready golf as steps right up in thirty nine years.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Of age his best, accomplishments collectively. Not singularly like, you
- 34:44Speaker 1: said he'd won on, tour before but his best accomplishments
- 34:47Speaker 1: had Been on tell Me if i'm, mispronouncing This The, Australasian,
- 34:50Speaker 1: tour yeah is?
- 34:51Speaker 2: That right australia And The. Asian Tour.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Australasian tour that's where some of his best work had
- 34:59Speaker 1: been done prior.
- 34:59Speaker 6: To this and, you know his story is. So unique
- 35:02Speaker 6: he didn't start playing golf. Until sixteen, in fact he
- 35:05Speaker 6: comes from a very. Athletic family his father played For
- 35:09Speaker 6: The all blacks. Rugby team, in fact his father won
- 35:12Speaker 6: the First Ever Rugby world cup and, his grandfather his,
- 35:15Speaker 6: grandfather too was an. Outstanding athlete he was a, Great,
- 35:17Speaker 6: cricketer yeah. Great cricketer so he has, you know these.
- 35:20Speaker 6: Athletic geens but, you know he kind of had a
- 35:22Speaker 6: self taught, golf swing didn't really start playing, until sixteen
- 35:26Speaker 6: both his, own swing and then dropped out of LAW school,
- 35:29Speaker 6: I Believe auckland university and, WAS like i, have this,
- 35:32Speaker 6: you know. Golfing bug but it took him some time to,
- 35:35Speaker 6: you know finally get good at. Professional golf and he
- 35:37Speaker 6: worked his way up through The Austral, asian TOUR The Dp,
- 35:40Speaker 6: world tour finally GETTING His pga tour card and here,
- 35:43Speaker 6: he is at thirty nine years old winning a.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Major championship it's a. Cool story where do you RATE the.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I like to call it extemporaneous quality of winning a
- 35:54Speaker 1: thing when you're not expected to? Do it his his
- 35:57Speaker 1: with the likes whatever A Rich A. Ben curtis you
- 36:03Speaker 1: know those guys who want to some might EVEN Say
- 36:08Speaker 1: jj spahm might even, say that, you know guys who
- 36:11Speaker 1: have won major championships that literally came.
- 36:14Speaker 2: From nowhere where does he fit? In that in?
- 36:16Speaker 6: That mindset, YOU know i don't think Anyone Expects ryan
- 36:21Speaker 6: vox now the win. Other major if You Say ryan
- 36:23Speaker 6: vox will finish with one, MAJOR championship i think. That's
- 36:26Speaker 6: fair it's it's very tough to win more. Than one
- 36:29Speaker 6: just ask a handful of other guys who have been
- 36:30Speaker 6: stuck on one or if, not zero. Major CHAMPIONSHIPS chase
- 36:33Speaker 6: Jj spond he's probably in that same tier of guys
- 36:38Speaker 6: who may only finish their career with one.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Major championship what kind of shows you it's so hard to, Win.
- 36:43Speaker 6: These craig but also at the, same time, you know
- 36:45Speaker 6: it puts it into perspective that the game, of golf
- 36:48Speaker 6: all it takes is just four days for you to
- 36:50Speaker 6: play your absolute best and you can be a.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Major, champion OKAY now i want to ask you about the.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Rules stuff let me Start. With sadaturday we'll. Go chronological
- 37:01Speaker 1: we're gonna Start with Bryson. To shamba first, of all
- 37:03Speaker 1: you Mentioned. LAST wednesday I. Thought, friday, uh yeah It.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Was friday we found out About it. Saturday morning we
- 37:10Speaker 1: found out About it. Saturday morning but let me let
- 37:16Speaker 1: me get. Your thoughts first, of All on Bryceon, to
- 37:19Speaker 1: shambeau who. Went in it looked like he had this,
- 37:24Speaker 1: marvelous round was at seven under and was one off. The,
- 37:26Speaker 1: pace uh we Get up saturday morning and find out
- 37:29Speaker 1: he's been penalized two strokes when he went into the
- 37:34Speaker 1: rough over there and.
- 37:35Speaker 2: You see him kind of stomping around in there to.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Set up you Mentioned last wednesday in our tournament preview
- 37:41Speaker 1: you were hoping to see him not make, the cut
- 37:43Speaker 1: if only. For history your your your Stance, ON deshambeau
- 37:48Speaker 1: i think you admitted has softened a bit since you
- 37:51Speaker 1: were first really hating on him when he went, lift
- 37:52Speaker 1: golf but you wanted to see him become the first
- 37:57Speaker 1: multiple major championship winner to miss all four cuts in
- 38:01Speaker 1: one year At.
- 38:01Speaker 2: The majors he didn't.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Do that he was actually in congingent for, a while
- 38:05Speaker 1: but he did have that weird deal Happen.
- 38:06Speaker 6: On, friday Yeah, so friday it's it was a drivable,
- 38:09Speaker 6: PAR four i believe it's the fifth or, sixth hole
- 38:12Speaker 6: and to the right of that hole there's a little
- 38:15Speaker 6: pond and he kind of hit IT just i believe
- 38:18Speaker 6: he went long right of, it actually and it was
- 38:19Speaker 6: kind of in the, thick grass and so he played
- 38:22Speaker 6: the hole, he got he was able to get out.
- 38:25Speaker 6: Made par it, didn't really, you know impact his round,
- 38:28Speaker 6: that much but it went back and they looked at
- 38:31Speaker 6: IT and, I believe i don't know for sure if
- 38:34Speaker 6: a viewer like submitted it TO, the rna but basically after,
- 38:37Speaker 6: the fact because his shot WAS on tv and everyone,
- 38:41Speaker 6: saw it, and he, you know very physically gets in
- 38:43Speaker 6: and it's kind of stomping on, the grass which is
- 38:46Speaker 6: against the rules of golf to improve, your, lie right
- 38:51Speaker 6: especially in situation. Like that and so he, gets out makes.
- 38:55Speaker 6: Par whatever but after the round they go in and
- 38:57Speaker 6: they penalize him, two strokes and, of course, you know he's,
- 39:01Speaker 6: you know mouthing off TO the rna, officials, Saying oh
- 39:04Speaker 6: i'm not going to play tomorrow if you guys. Penalize
- 39:07Speaker 6: me and then they penalize them two strokes and he
- 39:09Speaker 6: goes out to the driving range and he's hitting golf
- 39:11Speaker 6: balls until ten thirty eleven thirty. At night and what
- 39:16Speaker 6: that did was it delayed tea times from being Released.
- 39:20Speaker 6: For saturday so some Guys Like Justin Thomas, marco pench
- 39:24Speaker 6: who getting up at three four am for an early,
- 39:27Speaker 6: Tea time they're waiting to, Find, out okay WHEN do
- 39:29Speaker 6: I need when is my tea Time?
- 39:31Speaker 2: On saturday.
- 39:32Speaker 6: What's happening it's because the, shambo was, you know preventing
- 39:37Speaker 6: officials in volunteer staff and employees from going home because
- 39:41Speaker 6: he's still on the driving range hitting, golf shots and
- 39:44Speaker 6: the media is there and, he's saying how do you.
- 39:46Speaker 2: GUYS doing i have, SOME candy i have.
- 39:48Speaker 6: Some snacks, very, Performative right roy McRoy said It, on,
- 39:51Speaker 6: saturday like it's. Very performative all, these athletes, especially, golfers
- 39:55Speaker 6: right they're performative one way.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Or another bryson takes it to a. Different.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Level right he is, a YouTuber he's. A streamer he,
- 40:03Speaker 6: wants clicks he, wants views and sure. It's entertaining at the,
- 40:06Speaker 6: SAME time i also think it's sort of unauthentic.
- 40:09Speaker 2: As well now back to the.
- 40:11Speaker 6: Roles thing was it the, Right, penalty yes but a lot,
- 40:14Speaker 6: of golfers including, You, Know, Scotti scheffler Roy, Mac, roy
- 40:17Speaker 6: maxhoma a lot of guys all.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Kind of the.
- 40:19Speaker 6: Same thing it's saying the, same thing which, is one
- 40:21Speaker 6: he's a lot, of things but he's not a cheater
- 40:23Speaker 6: in two the, roles there how they deem it a
- 40:28Speaker 6: penalty and not. A penalty it's not. Called consistently it's
- 40:33Speaker 6: kind of like holding, in, football right there could be
- 40:34Speaker 6: holding on, every play but. Some referees we'll call it
- 40:38Speaker 6: at certain times in. The game some will call, it
- 40:40Speaker 6: all sometimes. They won't it's not it's never, very consistent
- 40:43Speaker 6: and that that role is not very. Called consistently and
- 40:47Speaker 6: a lot of it had to do with him probably
- 40:49Speaker 6: just BEING on tv and people seeing It At. Wyndham
- 40:51Speaker 6: clark That's. What scott he did the same thing AT
- 40:54Speaker 6: The us open when he. WANTED shittakok a lot of
- 40:57Speaker 6: his golfers probably do the same thing when.
- 40:59Speaker 2: They play it's just that some of.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Them aren't not every single shot has been Broadcasted On
- 41:03Speaker 6: pete COCK or nbc, or whatever so they get away.
- 41:05Speaker 6: With It, and bryanston whether he was it was made
- 41:08Speaker 6: an example of OR what, i mean it's The correct
- 41:12Speaker 6: it was the. Correct penalty at the, same time they
- 41:14Speaker 6: need to figure out a way to call it.
- 41:16Speaker 1: More, CONSISTENTLY here i played golf with people who would
- 41:20Speaker 1: take a lawnmower into the rough with them if they
- 41:22Speaker 1: thought it would help them there a. Little bit here's here's.
- 41:24Speaker 1: The thing my one beef about, it ALL and i
- 41:28Speaker 1: do think the rule was properly enforced after. The fact
- 41:33Speaker 1: my one beef IS and I think I Heard kevin
- 41:36Speaker 1: kisner talking, about This and i'm not A Big kevin kisner,
- 41:38Speaker 1: fan oday but he made a great point on this in.
- 41:40Speaker 1: The telecasts where WAS the rna official they on? The course,
- 41:43Speaker 1: he said there are officials that are on the course with.
- 41:46Speaker 1: These groups where was the official at. The time why
- 41:49Speaker 1: wasn't he, of, going hey who whoa who? Whoa whoa,
- 41:51Speaker 1: you know hold up, that mate you might not want to,
- 41:54Speaker 1: go there, you know to tell him don't tramp down. The,
- 41:57Speaker 1: stuff yeah that's that was my one beef. About, that
- 42:01Speaker 1: now this this thing just got goof here and. Goof here.
- 42:06Speaker 1: It Was the quadrilateral was reporting last night That the
- 42:11Speaker 1: shambo tried to enlist the Help Of president trump during.
- 42:16Speaker 1: His argument he was trying To Go world cup. On,
- 42:19Speaker 1: him apparently he reportedly tried To have trump fight on
- 42:23Speaker 1: his behalf not to. Be PENALIZED the rna denied the request.
- 42:29Speaker 2: And it went on.
- 42:32Speaker 1: From there apparently the two are our Friends to shambo And.
- 42:38Speaker 1: The president so apparently he, was, like hey can we
- 42:43Speaker 1: get ahold of? The president he wanted to. Be intervene
- 42:46Speaker 1: like was largely theoriized What the president did to get
- 42:52Speaker 1: To get blegan back on the Field FOR.
- 42:56Speaker 6: TEAM usa i sent it to a text a text
- 42:58Speaker 6: to a Friend, ON friday, i Said the shamba is
- 43:01Speaker 6: going to be on The Phone president trump by the
- 43:03Speaker 6: end of the night trying to get this penalty.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Up pill, but hey all of that and.
- 43:07Speaker 6: What happened bryson ended up not being even a factor
- 43:10Speaker 6: on the weekend In The. Open championship if he had
- 43:12Speaker 6: lost by two strokes or, ONE stroke i think this
- 43:14Speaker 6: would be a much Bigger d but because he kind of,
- 43:16Speaker 6: FADED away i ended UP finishing I think, T fourteen
- 43:19Speaker 6: t thirteen at four. Hunder par, but hey we may
- 43:24Speaker 6: not see Bryceon and shamba play golf Again, until Masters Because,
- 43:29Speaker 6: live golf, you Know Their team championship next month right
- 43:33Speaker 6: now very much. In doubt the Future of live is
- 43:36Speaker 6: very much. In doubt unless he decides to start playing,
- 43:39Speaker 6: YouTube golf, you know on that whatever, that Tour and
- 43:42Speaker 6: i'm not going to say it's, a tour whatever the YouTube.
- 43:44Speaker 6: Channel is maybe he'll PLAY Some Dp world, Tour Events,
- 43:48Speaker 6: Irish Open, australian open. Who knows we may not See
- 43:50Speaker 6: the shamba play in a big golf tournament Until the masters.
- 43:53Speaker 6: Next year so it's finirteresting to see what will happen
- 43:54Speaker 6: here with all the. LIVE golfers i imagine We'll See
- 43:56Speaker 6: scottie scheffler. Play again but let's talk about his.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Situation yesterday he's he's on seventeen and the shot goes
- 44:07Speaker 1: way left and it crashes out over.
- 44:10Speaker 6: It, too yeah absurd Reaction from scottie on the. TEA
- 44:13Speaker 6: box i couldn't.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Believe it he, was like.
- 44:18Speaker 1: And it looks like HE'S definitely obi or he's just he's.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Just unplayable and they can't or at the very least
- 44:23Speaker 1: can't find. The ball it's gonna be. A long then
- 44:26Speaker 1: they find what they like to call WHAT, the TiO
- 44:29Speaker 1: The temporary Immovable Obstruction Grand standard scoreboard and all that sort,
- 44:36Speaker 1: of stuff and so they allow him a. Free, drop
- 44:40Speaker 1: now the question in controversy surrounds whether it mattered if
- 44:45Speaker 1: they found. The ball and you heard with the microphones
- 44:49Speaker 1: on there, him, saying so even if we can't find.
- 44:53Speaker 1: THE ball i heard him say that a couple. Of
- 44:55Speaker 1: times he wanted to make sure ABOUT that i get.
- 44:57Speaker 1: The DROP the, rna, said yes he, gets up he
- 45:00Speaker 1: ends up making birdie to get him to within, a
- 45:02Speaker 1: shot and the golf world go flips out People on twitter.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And everything how did he get away? With that and
- 45:09Speaker 1: most of the people took shots AT. The rna there
- 45:11Speaker 1: were some who took Shots at scheffler for gaming the system,
- 45:15Speaker 1: or whatever but most were SAYING the rna incorrectly adjudicated
- 45:20Speaker 1: that rule by not determining whether the ball was lost
- 45:25Speaker 1: and WHAT the rna, is saying it doesn't matter where
- 45:27Speaker 1: the ball. Was lost it was in the area, of
- 45:30Speaker 1: TiO therefore it renders it.
- 45:32Speaker 5: All.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Mood yeah the rules states if if there's, multiple people,
- 45:38Speaker 6: multiple witnesses who see the ball enter t io, temper
- 45:42Speaker 6: ato which is will be a grand stand, hospitality Tent
- 45:45Speaker 6: Then scotty scheffler or the golfer who at the golf
- 45:49Speaker 6: shot is entitled. To relieve that's, the Rules And scotty
- 45:52Speaker 6: scheffler is playing by. The rules if, you haven't if
- 45:55Speaker 6: you have an issue with the, color senator because that's
- 45:57Speaker 6: how it's, set up It's Not scotty scheffer gating, the
- 45:59Speaker 6: same it's him playing by.
- 46:01Speaker 2: The rules in the game.
- 46:02Speaker 6: Of golf the rules are there really to, benefit, Golfers
- 46:05Speaker 6: right people think the roles are there to, you know
- 46:08Speaker 6: make you. Play, worse actually the rules of golf actually
- 46:10Speaker 6: are there to really kind of. Benefit you people just
- 46:13Speaker 6: don't know the rules because they play Once every saturday with,
- 46:16Speaker 6: their buddies, you know kicking the ball around a muti.
- 46:19Speaker 6: Golf concept, you, know, yeah naturally, YOU know i think
- 46:23Speaker 6: everyone knew once that ball found the, grand send he
- 46:27Speaker 6: got to relief he was making. A Birdie there the funny,
- 46:29Speaker 6: part is and you mentioned, It too craig is him audibly,
- 46:32Speaker 6: telling okay people stop looking for.
- 46:33Speaker 2: The ball stop looking for because if they found it
- 46:36Speaker 2: then it's been an is.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Different issue he doesn't get that he might not get that,
- 46:40Speaker 6: free relief but because that he was able, to get,
- 46:43Speaker 6: you know a pretty good drop obviously. Makes Four and
- 46:47Speaker 6: i'll tell, you what it would have been even a bigger,
- 46:49Speaker 6: story too just Like With. Bryson Craig if scotty ends
- 46:51Speaker 6: up making birdie. On, eighteen now Of Course ryan fox
- 46:53Speaker 6: wins a golf tournament anyway making that last, birdie butt,
- 46:56Speaker 6: but imagine.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Imagine if he'd got into a Playoff inf fox.
- 46:59Speaker 6: Came and fox and, wins it then it would have
- 47:01Speaker 6: been a much. Bigger Story But scotti scheffer just playing by.
- 47:04Speaker 6: The RULES so, i mean if you don't, like it
- 47:06Speaker 6: then the role needs to, be adjusted needs to.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Be CHANGED and i think it's.
- 47:11Speaker 6: Fair too, you know if you hit the ball that
- 47:14Speaker 6: far right or that, far left then you shouldn't be getting.
- 47:18Speaker 6: A drop but because they build, these hospitalities tents and
- 47:21Speaker 6: these big, rand stands THEN the rna and the rules
- 47:25Speaker 6: officials kind of make it so that the golfers can
- 47:27Speaker 6: get away. With it and so that probably needs to,
- 47:29Speaker 6: be addressed but we'll ever, be addressed probably not.
- 47:31Speaker 1: When you go Over To great britain next summer For The.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Open CHAMPIONSHIP and i know you said the other day
- 47:37Speaker 1: you're largely going to go and play. Some golf so
- 47:40Speaker 1: if you shank a drive, like that a pool, hooked
- 47:43Speaker 1: driver you. Immediately right except those things won't exist unless
- 47:49Speaker 1: You're Playing. St andrews right Before the, open start.
- 47:53Speaker 3: That old fiasco was not well explained On The british
- 47:56Speaker 3: open RADIO and i.
- 47:58Speaker 1: DON'T think i don't think anybody really knew it. That
- 48:00Speaker 1: well they, KEPT saying I Think terry gannon was on
- 48:03Speaker 1: the mic at the, time initially And then hicks gets
- 48:07Speaker 1: in by, the way they had that thing when they
- 48:08Speaker 1: were showing the award that notable gay Guy That Pain.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Story award it's kind. Of funny it's almost like that
- 48:14Speaker 1: Scene From The. Naked gun all of the play by
- 48:16Speaker 1: play guys are all aligned in the and they just
- 48:20Speaker 1: go from one to. THE other i always thought that
- 48:22Speaker 1: was kind, of weird as OPPOSED, to cbs who puts
- 48:25Speaker 1: people in. The, TOWER yeah i was like that because
- 48:27Speaker 1: you're right there on. The whole instead of turning to
- 48:29Speaker 1: the guy, right, now now let's go over. To, seventeen
- 48:31Speaker 1: well thanks, very much and he's. A guy he's sitting
- 48:33Speaker 1: two feet. From you but they weren't one hundred percent
- 48:37Speaker 1: certain about. It either and was it Was it bones
- 48:41Speaker 1: or Was it smiley who was on the golf course
- 48:44Speaker 1: with them trying to get trying to find out exactly what.
- 48:49Speaker 4: They are i'm.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Not sure I'm sure river it.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Was did a pretty good job saying that's that when
- 48:53Speaker 1: they kept guessing as to what it, might be what it,
- 48:55Speaker 1: Might be and then, he said that's what they're That's what,
- 48:58Speaker 1: scotty's asking and we're gonna get the relief here because.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Of that and like, you said he explaining about, THE
- 49:03Speaker 2: rules i just want to know what the.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Rule is if the, RULES says i get, relief hey
- 49:07Speaker 1: stop looking for.
- 49:07Speaker 2: The ball i'm taking. THE relief.
- 49:09Speaker 6: I think even with that and Then The friday, BRYSON
- 49:12Speaker 6: stuff i don't know if IT'S an nbc or it's
- 49:14Speaker 6: just when you have guys in the Booth Like, kevin
- 49:17Speaker 6: kissner who is, you know buddies with, these Golfers Or
- 49:21Speaker 6: jim fuorck who's going to Be The ryder, cup Captain
- 49:23Speaker 6: and Bryce AND shamba i think are going to be
- 49:26Speaker 6: playing possibly On His ryder. Cup team it's like they're kind,
- 49:29Speaker 6: of like, you know they always take inside, the PLAYER

- 50:25Speaker 6: and Then, it's hicks and Then it's gannon and then,
- 50:27Speaker 6: it's like, you know you don't hear from mcgay or
- 50:29Speaker 6: bones for like an hour and, a half And then.
- 50:31Speaker 6: Kissner's there, it's like who is? Leaguing this like at LEAST,

- 51:07Speaker 1: Doing, IT yeah I love Joe buck on on baseball,
- 51:09Speaker 1: and football not.
- 51:10Speaker 2: On golf that's hit. The bunker.
- 51:15Speaker 6: They at, least revolutionize, you know golf coverage in terms
- 51:18Speaker 6: of like putting MIC's In The golf cup and the
- 51:21Speaker 6: drone shots and really the track. Man too they were
- 51:23Speaker 6: the first ones to use. The TrackMan so they did
- 51:25Speaker 6: do some, good THINGS and I think nbc does does some.
- 51:28Speaker 6: Good things but all, IN all i would love TO
- 51:31Speaker 6: see espn maybe get some, major coverage major champions of coverage.

- 51:43Speaker 1: right thanks appreciate. You Guys It's. Cameron parker we'll hear
- 51:48Speaker 1: More From steve sarkashan coming up On thirteen Under. The
- 51:51Speaker 1: zone Thanks To cameron parker joining us Recapping The. Open
- 52:00Speaker 1: championship he's part of the reason why that particular tournament
- 52:04Speaker 1: is my favorite of the, four majors because you run
- 52:06Speaker 1: into things and you see things that maybe you don't
- 52:09Speaker 1: see it some of the. Other.
- 52:10Speaker 2: ONES yeah i Like The. Lynx, GOLF yeah i Like The.
- 52:13Speaker 3: LINKS golf i Was asking camra why you know why
- 52:15Speaker 3: we see it all these sixty two's and, he, said,
- 52:17Speaker 3: well the. WEATHER'S nice, i mean these courses aren't hard
- 52:20Speaker 3: enough for these, modern pros but you also get stuff
- 52:23Speaker 3: like we saw with all.
- 52:24Speaker 1: The drama there was an old time sports writer, for
- 52:29Speaker 1: many many years Of The Dallas.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Morning news his Name Was.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Hartless wade some folks used to Call Him harmless wade
- 52:37Speaker 1: with some of, his writing but He was he covered basically,
- 52:41Speaker 1: all sports but what he was best known for, was
- 52:44Speaker 1: golf and he would cover the, golf scene both the
- 52:49Speaker 1: tour and the local.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Golf scene and he was Over in.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Scotland For The open championship one year when it Was At,
- 52:58Speaker 1: saint andrews and he Wrote That saint andrew's in nice
- 53:06Speaker 1: weather would be a two dollars Muni.
- 53:09Speaker 2: In, Mesquite, mesquite texas the Suburb.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Of dallas in, other words it's like just a little
- 53:14Speaker 1: simple municipal. Golf course but because of the pop bunkers
- 53:18Speaker 1: and because of, the weather, you know and and some of,
- 53:23Speaker 1: the undulations that's what that's what makes, you know links
- 53:26Speaker 1: golf different from SOME other.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I did want to hear from more From a longhorn's
- 53:33Speaker 2: Head Coach.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Steve sarkisian this from his press conference yesterday where he
- 53:39Speaker 1: was asked a little bit. About culture, you know that's
- 53:44Speaker 1: that's that's a big buzz word is culture with a
- 53:49Speaker 1: lot of guys, these days and it is so with
- 53:52Speaker 1: sark in, the program the culture of, the program and
- 53:55Speaker 1: he was asked about the challenges of maintaining the culture
- 53:59Speaker 1: he wants given annual significant.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Roster, turnover, yeah no it's it's a.
- 54:06Speaker 5: Huge deal, you know as we've, touched on we've historically
- 54:10Speaker 5: done a lot of our culture Work, In, june July
- 54:13Speaker 5: and august right in, the summer because that was the,
- 54:15Speaker 5: old model the, traditional model and we made a pretty
- 54:19Speaker 5: significant shift on that. This year we started doing a
- 54:22Speaker 5: lot of our culture Work. In february we gave the
- 54:25Speaker 5: guys a couple of weeks to get acclimated back, on
- 54:27Speaker 5: campus and we started pouring into that earlier and getting
- 54:31Speaker 5: you get forty seven new faces on our team and
- 54:34Speaker 5: getting them accustomed to and acclimated to the things that
- 54:36Speaker 5: are important to us and how we go about.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Our business but at the, same.
- 54:40Speaker 5: Token like i'm GOING To Sec media Days on Thirday,
- 54:44Speaker 5: on Thursday and i'm bringing three guys that are fantastic.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Football players, they're great but.
- 54:51Speaker 5: All three of those guys sign with us out of
- 54:53Speaker 5: high school In, Arch Manning, trevor Gooseby And. Colin simmons
- 54:57Speaker 5: and so when, for us when your best players or
- 55:00Speaker 5: guys that we signed out of high school that developed in,
- 55:02Speaker 5: our program that believe in what. We, do man they're
- 55:06Speaker 5: model citizens for us when it comes to leadership and
- 55:09Speaker 5: getting younger players to understand what it takes to Be
- 55:12Speaker 5: a longhorn in this day. And age and so we're
- 55:15Speaker 5: very fortunate that way that we've got players in our
- 55:17Speaker 5: program that have grown up in. Our program, YOU know
- 55:20Speaker 5: i Think about jolan, AND MacDonald i Think About connor
- 55:23Speaker 5: robertson and and Just Some. Ryan nibblett you know a
- 55:26Speaker 5: lot of guys who have Kind Of, spencer shannon.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Who have grown up in our program that.
- 55:32Speaker 5: That really serve as, model CITIZENS and i, Don't know
- 55:34Speaker 5: i'm fascinated. To see haven't Looked out bianco check this,
- 55:39Speaker 5: for me of, you know just how many TEAMS that
- 55:41Speaker 5: sec media days are actually bringing all three of their
- 55:44Speaker 5: players that they actually signed out of, high school and
- 55:46Speaker 5: how many bringing transfers and what that number.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Looks like, That's, interesting yeah because he made a point of.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Saying it the three he's Taken, Arch Manning, colin simmons
- 55:57Speaker 1: And And trevor gooseby are all program players that he
- 56:02Speaker 1: brought in.
- 56:03Speaker 2: As.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Freshman yeah i've got my research team. ON that i
- 56:06Speaker 3: don't see any other school that. Has that i'll let
- 56:10Speaker 3: you the top of.
- 56:10Speaker 1: My head i'll let you continue to research that in,
- 56:13Speaker 1: the moment and when we, come back we're going to
- 56:14Speaker 1: hear him talk about one other outstanding incoming freshman when
- 56:18Speaker 1: we continue on thirteen under.
- 56:19Speaker 2: The zone i'll beat it till the end. Of time
- 56:24Speaker 2: so you got to let.
- 56:26Speaker 7: Me, know.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Okay you're reasoning for bumping back with the.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Class, here well it came to MIND when i was
- 56:37Speaker 3: thinking about the players that have Stayed in, stars program
- 56:40Speaker 3: the homegrown guys we were talking about before the break
- 56:43Speaker 3: in the age of the.
- 56:44Speaker 1: Transfer, portal yeah so sark cask the question kind of,
- 56:47Speaker 1: rhetorically said it may have To. Ask bianc you're Talking
- 56:49Speaker 1: About john bianco is their associated athletic director for, immediate
- 56:55Speaker 1: relations and so it may have to. Ask him are
- 56:58Speaker 1: there any other program that will PARTICIPATE in sec media
- 57:04Speaker 1: days who are bringing their three? Student athletes are all
- 57:09Speaker 1: programmed guys from, the start not? Transfer boring, you said
- 57:12Speaker 1: the answer is for.
- 57:13Speaker 3: FROM what i From what, i've gathered the answer is
- 57:16Speaker 3: FOR and i Might be i'm not Sure, about Tennessee
- 57:20Speaker 3: but i've got four other four other programs that are,
- 57:22Speaker 3: doing that and that Includes The, Georgia, Bulldogs, Vanderbilt Okay,
- 57:27Speaker 3: south Carolina.
- 57:28Speaker 1: And alabama the only one that might surprise me how
- 57:33Speaker 1: that group Would Be. SOUTH carolina i think trying to.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Build it Alabama. And georgie you expect they're gonna have
- 57:39Speaker 1: program Guys. Like texas vanderbilt is on the other end of.
- 57:42Speaker 1: The spectrum that makes sense because of their status in
- 57:46Speaker 1: the private school and trying to build it forward off.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Of that so, you know that's.
- 57:51Speaker 1: That's something speaking of guys coming into, the program we've
- 57:54Speaker 1: all heard quite a Bit About. Jermaine bishop, of course
- 57:57Speaker 1: the tremendously talent did athlete who can do just a
- 58:03Speaker 1: little bit.
- 58:03Speaker 2: Of everything.
- 58:07Speaker 1: When he Was, at willis he, played quarterback he played,
- 58:08Speaker 1: wide receiver HE, played dB he did just. About everything
- 58:11Speaker 1: he's projected at wide Receiver at texas and at that
- 58:16Speaker 1: press conference at Coaching school sark was asked about the
- 58:18Speaker 1: development and what they're seeing Out.
- 58:20Speaker 5: Of jermaine we're really Excited. About jermaine he this guy
- 58:26Speaker 5: loves football like he everything he does is he works
- 58:30Speaker 5: at his craft and he's excited. About it he brings.
- 58:33Speaker 5: Great energy he loves, the game he, loves competing he. Loves,
- 58:36Speaker 5: practice uh he loves working. At it he's got natural.
- 58:40Speaker 5: Leadership ability kind of in that freshman class already you
- 58:43Speaker 5: can feel.
- 58:44Speaker 2: His leadership but he's.
- 58:45Speaker 5: Very talented and in spring we played him exclusively at
- 58:50Speaker 5: wide receiver and he had a very good, you know
- 58:52Speaker 5: spring force and, you know one thing that we talked
- 58:55Speaker 5: about in recruiting with him was his ability TO play dB.
- 58:59Speaker 5: As well so for this summer he's been WORKING. At
- 59:01Speaker 5: dB he's been learning, our scheme he's been learning the fundamentals,
- 59:05Speaker 5: that techniques and then when we go back to, fall
- 59:07Speaker 5: camp he'll go back to wide receiver again with the notion, of,
- 59:11Speaker 5: knowing hey if, emergency strikes here's a guy who already
- 59:15Speaker 5: knows our scheme and he can go.
- 59:16Speaker 2: Over there and play.
- 59:17Speaker 5: On defense if he can continue, to develop he could
- 59:20Speaker 5: be an emergency guy on the defensive side of. The
- 59:22Speaker 5: ball but we'll focus with him on offense when we.
- 59:25Speaker 5: Get back but people don't. Know this when we Were,
- 59:28Speaker 5: At Alabama DeVante smith was our emergency corner and he
- 59:32Speaker 5: would take the first, you know. Scout period he would
- 59:35Speaker 5: go with the defense And coach saban and, play corner
- 59:38Speaker 5: and then he'd come over and play wide receiver in
- 59:40Speaker 5: the second. Scout period so, you know think about that
- 59:43Speaker 5: the year that guy Wins The, heisman trophy he was
- 59:45Speaker 5: practicing on defense part, of practice, you know just, in
- 59:48Speaker 5: case because he was an. Emergency player so it's not
- 59:52Speaker 5: totally out. Of abnormal i've been fortunate to have guys
- 59:55Speaker 5: who have done it before. With Me john Ross at
- 59:58Speaker 5: washington was a wide out for me his, freshman year
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: but also, you know learned nickel and PLAYED some dB
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: four us on. Third Down dori JACKSON when i WAS,
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: at usc, you know he was a STARTER at dB
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: and RETURNER and i would play, him about, you know
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: five to ten snaps a game, on offense and so
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: this isn't totally out of.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: The norm, For us i've.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: Seen it but managing their time and managing their legs
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: and and really monitoring, THEIR body i think is as
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: important as anything as we work our way through.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: The. Season, interesting okay and we're gonna hear More from
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: sark coming up next hour from the actual. Coaching school
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: we'll hear him from the panel DISCUSSION that i had
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: a chance to, moderate yesterday, his thoughts.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Including his his.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Tongue in cheek or his humorous comment about being seated
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Next to.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Joey, McGuire right we'll have that, in, there, Right.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Sure, well yeah That was joey McGuire had hinted that
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: was a little thing they had joked about back At
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: the big twelve media days from a couple of.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Weeks, Ago yeah and.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Let me Say this, saturday night was in the in the,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: hotel LOBBY and i had a good Conversation with. Joey
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: McGuire came up and he kind of bear hugged me
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: from behind because we've known each other a long. LONG
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: time i called three Of His State championship games when
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: he Was Coaching theater HILL and i said, To, him
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: hey as FAR as, i know on the panel, discussion
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: tomorrow you're not going to get a question about portal
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: and transferred.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: To, LAUGHERS oh i thought you were going to ask Me.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: About sowarsby and he went on, to say by, the
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: way that he has a he has an address tomorrow to.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: The to, the convention to the to. Coaching school like,
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: we said it's a.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Rotating thing and he in part of what his address
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: is going to be about is about dealing what he's
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: called what he calls a, black swan meaning that's something
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: that all of a sudden becomes a major problem in,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: your program whether it's a student a leete's fault or
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: not at fault, or whatever dealing with that sort. Of
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: situation also let him know that The black swam is
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: an ice Restaurant, In, jefferson texas and.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: You got to laugh.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: About that, but anyway with, a chat and during the
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: course of, the chat he mentioned how He and Sark
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: And jeff traylor had had a little group Text where trailer, Joked,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: about HEY do i need to sit between? You guys
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: you know at, coaching school and they all had a
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: big laugh. About, it SO like, i said one thing
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: that that deal showed me you and continues to show me,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: every year is the camaraderie that goes on between these
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: college football coaches who know each other well and share
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: it a lot of. Common thoughts there was a lot of
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: conversation between all of them before we even got on,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: stage together before we even.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Started it and you.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Think about the life of a college, football coach and
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: specifically a college football coach in the State, of texas
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: it's far from a. Lonely business it's such a, people
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: business the networking and the camaraderie element from that point,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: of view but there's also just the kinship and, the
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: fraternity and very few know what.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: That, Is, like yep no doubt. About it we'll be
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: back to Wrap up hower. Number two I'm thirteen Under,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: the zone third and final hour of the program here
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: On a Monday On SPORTS radio Am thirteen Under. The
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Zone craig way with you alongside The Producer. Jay carmen
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: glad to have you with us. As well coming up
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: in a few minutes More From long Horn's Hit Football
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Coach team circasian.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: We heard from his.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Press conference in the first hour of, The, program sark
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: along with about seventeen thousand other coaches Down in houston
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: At The Texas High School coaches Association's Annual coaching School.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: And convention, you know they used to just call it
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: coaching school because that's what it was originally, designed as
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: and that's what's still its primary purpose is it is. Those,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: things however it has become much larger. Than that it
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: has become. A convention as, we mentioned they elect their.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: New president they have regional meetings and things. Like that
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: they Have the Hall of, honor banquet which starts off
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: there used to be a luncheon For the Hall of
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: honor when it was over and on a much. Smaller
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: scale now it's a much larger production. Than THAT like,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: I said i'd served AS the mc for that in
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: half of the past twenty, five years and it was
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the largest crowd they'd.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Ever had.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Largest attendants there are nearly one thousand people in the
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: room Inside THE. George R Brown convention center there In,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: downtown houston and seven new inductees Into the Hall. Of
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: honor normally their class, is five, occasionally. Six occasionally for
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: most of the time it's five seven, this year and
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: It Included, robert brown who was so instrumental in and
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: uncovering you might say the if you will archaeological finds
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Of The Prairie View interscholastic LEAGUE the pviil in the
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: days of segregated high, school athletics and there's some amazing
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: stories that come from that and some, amazing athletes including
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: guys who are In The Pro football Hall of Fame
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Like bubba smith and some other guys that are A
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: great pro football Ev In College football Hall of famers
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: as Well As Texas High School football Hall. Of famers
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: so he was one of the inductees. In There mike
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: kendrick was the Coach at franklin for many Years And
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: leon high and over three, hundred wins and he was
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: posthumously inducted. Into That john king the head Coach At Longview.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: High school he has done a great job as one state.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Title there he. WENT in I Mentioned weldon nelms for
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: many years at a lot of, different places but most
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Notably at wimberley where he won two state Championships at
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: wimberley in two thousand and five and twenty eleven and
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: was great to See coach Elms Again, johnny ringo who
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: played At the University of texas as part of their
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: nineteen Eighty Three SOUTHWEST conference a. Championship team he'd been
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: an Assistant, at texas an Assistant, at westlake and a
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: head coach and kind of a program Turner At plano
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: East and Coppel And irving MacArthur even i Think. You
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: valley he had done a tremendous job as those and
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: His majors mark as an athletic director, as well so
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: they had a great many people Going At, dennis parker
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: who won a state Championship, at marshall later was the
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: head football Coach In north texas during which time you
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: may recall some of you may remember a Movie Called.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Necessary roughness it's kind of a Comedy And scott backla was,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: in it and Also the sinbad was, in it so
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: they Had They kathy ireland was in it. As well
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Dennis park they shot part of it on Campus At
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: north texas a big part of it, as well and
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: they were known As The Texas state Arm. Of dillos
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: this Was Before texas state had changed its Name From
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Southwest texas State To, texas State And. Dennis parker the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: role in that movie is a, prison GUARD and i
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: asked him on stage after his video presentation when he's,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: being inducted bigger career thrill for you winning a state
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Title in marshall in nineteen ninety or your role as
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: a prison Guard In necessary roughence, he said, you know
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: the funny thing about that.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: IS hease i was asked to do that by my.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Athletic director, ODDLY enough i never Got an oscar nomination,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: or anything.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: So yeah must have gotten lost in.
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: The.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Mail. Yeah yeah, so anyway it, was great great stuff.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Visiting them so all of, that happened and we're going
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: to hear More. From SARK but i did say the
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: other thing that is noteworthy about this is That The
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: coaching School and convention has so many other parts, to
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: it not the least of which is the. Exhibit hall
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: if you walk, into there you can see just about
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: anything you could possibly imagine that could help a high
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: school football or high school. Athletic program you, name, Something,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: goalposts yeah there's a there's a goal post company in
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: there with with the display first, down markers. SPORTS drinks
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: i saw industrial size washers and dryers because football programs.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Need that, YOU know i gotta wash those uniforms. As,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: well uh, instruction manuals. Motivational videos they also had live
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: demonstrations going on. In there so it's it's, it's yeah.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: It's MASSIVE when i went out as a as a
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: ut student to go and cover practice and get to
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: talk to coaches and players as the voice Of, McNeil, high,
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: YEAH dude i was struck by just the amount. Of
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: stuff just just the amount, of stuff the amount of coaches,
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: and uh you made me think of it with those
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: industrial washers and DRYERS because i Was Interviewing scott herms in,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: THE hallway i, was, like hey can we can we
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: just take a few steps that.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Away from the washer and driver were getting a lot of. Background,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: noise scoreboards, you KNOW like, i said just about anything
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: you can. REPLACE systems i never understood people had to
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: work the press box score. For practice yeah you, Need
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: somebody they need somebody on, the scoreboards or dating and
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: obviously filming. As well absolutely absolutely not. Just football this
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: is this encompasses, all sports basically boys and, girls sports
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: but of course the primary push and thrust is around football.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: As well so all of that is. Going on and
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: THEN as i mentioned they have they have lectures. GOING
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: on i walked into a LECTURE yesterday. I went the
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: REASON why i did THIS is i went to go
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: to The Main grand ballroom where we had the Banquet on,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: saturday NIGHT and i went into The Main grand ballroom
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: just to see the setup before we, got going an
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: hour before it was. To, start well there was a
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: lecture going on in there at. The time there were
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: over five hundred coaches in there Listening To. Riley dodge
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you May remember riley was the Quarterback At South lake
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: carroll for, His Dad, todd dodge who of course ended
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: up winning three consecutive state Titles. At westlake after he'd
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: done a great Job At South, Lake carrol riley would
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: then become the Coach At South lay carroll's there for.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Several years riley now is on R at lashley's STAFF,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: at smu.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: So he's an offensive.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Assistant there so he was just giving his story about
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: the path that you can take as. A coach so
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: there's career building and all those kinds. Of things that's
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: why it's still known as coaching. School first, but yes
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: there's a convention going on and. We'll HEAR like, i
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: said well Here From steve sarkisian from that. Panel discussion
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: i'll give more of an explanation that. Coming up but
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: the other two big events of, the weekend certainly other
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Than the dodgers taking two or three From the yankees
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: there and almost one last night with a bullpen game.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Going on they had to do that because they having
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: to Push take otani out of the rot for a
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: little bit let his knee.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: Heal up Coincidence that yamamoto goes nine innings.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: On purpose they need that in the first game of. The,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: doubleheader yeah he. Was, brilliant yeah complete. Game there, but
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: anyway the other two, big events Certainly The, world cup
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: and we talked, about It with spain getting its victory
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: and winning Its Second world cup to go with the
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: one they won in, twenty Ten denying argentina A Fourth,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: WORLD cup i, Guess right argentina has. Won, three yeah
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: And denying messi that seventy, seventy eight eighty six and
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: then and then the last one in twenty. Twenty two
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: and like, you Said Denying linnel messi A Second world
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: cup really denying him much of the ball for one
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: hundred and. Twenty minutes, that's right and then the other
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: thing Was The. Open championship now We Had cameron parker
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: in here with us last hour talking about it and
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: the rules controversies and stuff, like THAT but i just
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: wanted to zero him for a Moment On ryan fox
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: becoming The Second new zealander to. Win It bob charles
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: won it in nineteen six sixty Three And ryan fox
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: thirty nine years.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Of age when we.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Talked, About it as we Mentioned, with cameron when we talked,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: about this nobody Brought Up ryan. FOX'S name i think
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: the best he'd ever done was like a tie for
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: sixteenth To, the major and yet he did it and
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: was just solid and, really good almost spectacular down. The
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: stretch so afterwards there was the encourse interview about what
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: he said to himself on.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: The eighteenth t when he was tied for the Lead With.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Cameron smith he had a great final round sixty Four
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: And Harry camrin young, excuse Me, cam young And cam
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: parker has has picked in the Last few majors and been.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Very close he's been, very close and so he was
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: tied going to the seventy, second hole so he was
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: asked what did he say to himself on the EIGHTEENTH
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: t i said to.
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: My, EDDY dane, i said we're gonna take. It on
- 1:12:50Speaker 7: we're going to try, to Win and i'll deal with whatever.
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: Consequences happened if you had a bad drive and whatever.
- 1:12:54Speaker 7: MIGHT buggy i probably could live with that then trying
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: to laugh and get get in, a playoff make a bogy.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: That WAY and i probably had the two best shots in.
- 1:13:03Speaker 7: My life the driver, was perfect probably got a bit
- 1:13:06Speaker 7: close to, the bunk AND and i thought off, THE tee
- 1:13:08Speaker 7: i had a great number for nine nine, in THERE
- 1:13:10Speaker 7: and i had that EXACTLY where i Wanted To and
- 1:13:13Speaker 7: i'm not SURE how i hit the, put straight to,
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: be honest everything, was, shaking. TREMBLING whatever, i know that's
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: what people. Practice sometimes, You know i've got a part
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: to win. A major it's a whole lot different in.
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: REAL life i could tell you that And lives just
- 1:13:27Speaker 7: take a, deep breath hit the part and kind of
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: hope and That.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Went raims next he was asked about.

- 1:13:49Speaker 7: of the night to watch this tournament, back home and
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: you know it was always something that, was there just
- 1:13:55Speaker 7: to be able to play in it, first up and
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: now to Be an, open champion to be the champion

- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Marked About ryan fox's game is the dude wastes. No
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: time you watch him step to the tea boom and.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Tease off you watch him get up to, the green
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: gets to read, on it stands over, the, butt boom.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: Hits it he is one of the. Faster players why

- 1:18:53Speaker 1: greensboro coliseum back in, the seventies and this was. The
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: stunt they would pass around a big metal pan and
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: let people spit, into it and they passed the why
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: because then they would pass the pan up to the
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: stage and Then Supposedly alice cooper would drink the pan. Of,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: spit now obviously we heard later the pan was switched
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: to one that had real water.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: In it it was an, identical pan but it was
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: it was a.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Showbiz trigg you just to show how outrageous and how
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: crazy That That alice, cooper was but he didn't really

- 1:19:52Speaker 1: Six hours they're at coaching School, in HOUSTON and i mentioned,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: and that, you know there's so many things that happen during,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: coaching school and each coach does his own. Press conference
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: many of, the coaches by, the way, do presentations will
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: must chant.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: The logorns.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: You know once in future defensive coordinator getting ready to
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: start his first season back on the forty Acres Says.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: Defense corps he delivered. A lecture i believe it was a.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Linebacker play and so they have a variety of different coaches.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Do these.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: These lectures but then the head coaches might or might
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: not be delivering. A lecture it alternates by years and
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: different ones that they. Come in but one thing that
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: happens every year Is the DIVISION one Fbs head coaches.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Panel discussion they get all thirteen head Coaches and i'm
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: gonna do this one more, time now i' letna SEE

- 1:22:26Speaker 1: gonna'm gonna. Get, This Oh scotty WALDEN at utep it, is.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: Next right, so anyway that was that was. A scene
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: i was trying to remember that from my left to
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: my right and MADE sure i remember.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: It correctly so they they all.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Were asked and AND like, I said i had questions
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: for all of them that were supplied to me By
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: The Texas High School. Coach association but before we got to,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: the questions each head coach was asked to give a
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: little a little bit of an update on. The PROGRAM
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: and I and i want to say this, Right now
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: i'll have the opportunity good STUFF. From gj Kenny At
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: texas state about them going INTO the. Pac twelve, in
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: fact his QUESTION that i put to him was about
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: how do you make? That transition what do? You what
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: what are the what are the things that are most
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: important about and he talked about the culture and building
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: the program and being, ready financially being. Ready, mentally uh,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: you know for the for the largeness of the conference
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: that they're, going to even though it's A reconstituted.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Pac TWELVE. So gj kenny had some really good things. To.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: Say uh so.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Each coach had an opening statement, Or comments each coach got,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: a question and then each coach was asked for advice.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: They would give.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: The coaches so here here are the three Things from
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: longborn's Head Coach, steve sarkisian starting off with his.
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: Opening comments all they first, And foremost JOE and i.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: Are good we're sitting next to. Each Other, y' also we're.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: All good, up. Here okay, so.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: Uh all, things considered this is this is a great
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: time of year. For, me uh being Here At coaches
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: school and now with our being in our, six season
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: this always for me signifies, it's close. It's coming. You
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: know this week WE have Sec. MEDIA days i was
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: thinking about.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: This.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: Earlier today we're going to media Days and i'm bringing
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: three guys that signed with us out of. High SCHOOL
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: and i know in, this world but we're talking about
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: the portal and transfer portal and what's happening in the high.
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: School recruiting we've got three leaders that are going to
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: be Representing the University of texas at, media Days And
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: arch manning and then two of, your Own And trevor
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: Gooseby and colin sim, and SO like, I said i
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: think all of us, feel, like man we feel like
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: we've got a pretty. Good team it's a heck of,
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: a challenge as we, all know to win a championship
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: In The southeastern conference as well as trying to win a.
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: National championship but we feel like we've put some things
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: in place to compete. For that but as we, all
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: know it's a heck of, a challenge and the journey
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: of a season is, just that it's. A journey it's
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: going to take, week in, week out physical and mental
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: toughness to accomplish all. Of that but it's always great
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: to be here with. You, all well ook.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Appreciate, it next this was THE question i Had, for
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: sark and it is a little bit similar to the
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: question that our Good Friend jeff howe Put to sark
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: that you may have heard in the first hour of
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: the program when we were bringing you some of the
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Audio from sarks From from sarks press conference that, he
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: had and it was mainly intended to start off as
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: an Update On cole, hudson's case as he's working to
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: try to see if he can come up with another year,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: of eligibility but it also kind of morphed into Because
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Of cole, Hudson's case he's been there, four years hasn't
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: played for full seasons due to the injury, or whatever
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: so he's trying to accrue that fifth season that now
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: has been approved BY. The ncaaa it's called the five.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: For five and in case you weren't up to date
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: on it and didn't know what the five for, five
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: is is you now the way the new. Rule works,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: you now once you are a student athlete who enters
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: a college campus and begins your, first season you have
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: five years to complete your eligibility and you can play all,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: five years but you got five years. To Finish and
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: sark was asked about it in that and he was
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: asked about it HERE when i asked him his overview
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: BECAUSE and i know he was a big supporter.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Of this so when the list was handed to me for,
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: the QUESTIONS.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: Then i kind, Of, knew okay he's going to like
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: this question because he has been outspoken in favor. Of
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: IT so i, asked him you know what about his
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: thoughts on five for five and the impact that may
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: have on. College Athletics coach traylor brought up the five
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: for five and, coach slarkishan what impact do you anticipate
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: the five for five rule and the transfer portal will
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: have on high?
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: SCHOOL recruiting i think the five for five is Something
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: unless i'm or miss all of us up here we're.
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: Pushing for it was something that, you know what we
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: ran into a lot of the times is, you know
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: we got to the four games and now you've got
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: young players on your roster and they've got three games under,
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: their belt and here comes that, fourth game and do
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: you pull them off of?
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: Special teams do? You not, you know what does that?
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: Look like so this idea now that we actually can
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: continue to develop our players and that we can play
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: our young players even if they're on one, special teams two,
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: special teams, they're active they have a role on. THE
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: team i think that plays a huge part in the
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: morale on all of. Our rosters that a lot of
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: our young players are going to continue. TO play i
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: think for us, in particular it gives us an opportunity
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: to recruit some more. DEVELOPMENTAL players i think so many
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: times it's the four and five, star kid and we
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: live in this society of, immediate impact Right immediate you
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: know who are they?
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: This year and is they A Freshman?
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: All, american well now we can take a step back
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: and we can look three four years down the road
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: of developmental players in our program and what that. Looks
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: Like but i'll, SAY this i think we all got
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: to wrap our brains around there might.
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: Be a little bit of a lull in high school recruiting.
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: That's Coming and craig touched on that because now there's
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: players that are going to have an extra year to
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: stay in, college football that are going to transfer around
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: or stay at.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: Their universities that is going to impact some of the high.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: School recruiting but, over time we really believe the uptick
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: in high school recruiting is gonna come again because we're
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: all going to have to go there because these players
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: are going to. Move on we're not having players that
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: play junior college football get a seventh year and eighth
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: year so on and so forth it's five years and,
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: they're out and so we're gonna hit this.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: Cycle where it's going to become. Normal again the high.
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: School recruiting the impact that it's going to have on
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: all of our programs is going to be critical.
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: To all of.
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: Our SUCCESS but i really believe from the morale of
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: these young players and these these kids and they feel the
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: burden of, you know of, you know taking care of
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: their household because of the money and the agents and all.
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: These things ultimately we're gonna have an opportunity to play
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: more players when they're young and have a role on.
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: Our TEAMS that i think is going to build the
- 1:29:03Speaker 5: morale of these young people on our teams and build
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: the morale of our teams, in general and where we're not, Dealing,
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: with hey that kid's red shirt and he's not worried
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: about Playing, this saturday so he. Gets disengaged everybody's going
- 1:29:15Speaker 5: to remain engaged because they know they have a role in.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: The ORGANIZATION so i think overall it's.
- 1:29:19Speaker 5: A POSITIVE but i do think the effects of this
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: are going to take a couple of years to get
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: down the road where we're really going to see the impact.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: Of it all and then one more from the actual.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: Panel DISCUSSION like, i said each of the thirteen coaches
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: made an, opening statement so that takes. Some time then
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: there was a question for each of the thirteen. Head
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: coaches that took a good chunk. Of time remember there's
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: an hour and a half allotted. For it and to be,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: quite honest we got started a little bit late Because
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: The Frank Broyles High School coaches award was to be
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: presented to the top assistant high school coach Of, the
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Year And coach Wilson, from longview the assistant coach who received,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: the award ran into some difficulty getting into. The room,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: you see he had actually checked out of the hotel
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: and was getting ready to Drive A. Saint angelo he did.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: Not know he was not aware that he was the.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Award winner he had not. Been Told So, john king
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: the head Coach, at longew called him, and, said hey
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: where are you and, he, Says well i'm getting ready
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: to Go To.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: Saint angelo, he, said, no, no, no no you can't.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Do that why not because you've won the award At
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: The Frank Broyle's High, school awards the top high school
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: assistant coach in The, in texas and, he, said all,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: r well let me turn around and go back to.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: The hotel so he, turns around he goes back to,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: the hotel and he said he actually didn't go to.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: The hotel he went straight to the, convention center which
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: is adjacent to.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: The hotel but he.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Parks forgetting that he has checked out of. The hotel
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: he tries to enter the convention center and doesn't have.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: His Badge and i'm, telling you trying to get into
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: that convention without your badge is like trying to Break Into.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Fort knox they got people out front and you're not
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: getting in without. That deal so there was, this snapho
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: so there was a little bit of, a delay but
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: we covered the Delay Because, craig bowle who is the
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: president Of The American Football, coaches association was scheduled to speak.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: As well we just flip flopped the order and, he
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: spoke and then that Gave coach wilson time enough to.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Get in and what a, great guy and he did
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: a fabulous job When coach king was out with his,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: cancer surgery and then we. Did that so we were
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: starting a little bit. Behind anyway so now you've Got
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: thirteen division one head coaches who all have to make.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: A statement then all thirteen are asked a question and
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: you Just heard sarks answer about the five. For five
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: and then we conclude it with all thirteen head coaches
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: with the, same question what advice would they give to high?
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: School coaches and this was.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Sarks Answer Coach sarkishan, yourthal said if you could give
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: a piece of advice to coaches taking from, This, TODAY.
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: Yeah, i think first, of all echoing a lot of
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: the thoughts obviously that have already, been Said so i'd
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: hate to. BE redundant i think something that stick out
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: to me that a mentor of mine told me a
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: few years back was.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: Be adaptable, you know we're in a lot.
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: Of change going on in, our sport and not only
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: at our level and. Your level remaining adaptables as a
- 1:32:26Speaker 5: coach is really important to the, different schemes the, recruiting process,
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: the players all the things that are happening in. Our
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: time and he finished that comment why it's important to
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: be adaptable because, he said adapt. Or die there's a
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: reason dinosaurs aren't on the. Earth anymore So Quote, nick saban.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Be adaptable so there is all of that that happened
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: now right after that, Was over i'd say, right afterwards and,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: it was but there was a they were all dispersing
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: for there were chalk talks. Going on there was as they,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: call it a social, social event and translation on that
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: means there's beverages.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: For.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: The coaches there.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: WAS that i actually went up went upstairs afterwards to the,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: president's reception which was very. Very Nice, drew sanders the
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: head Coach at vandergrift completing his term. As president, and
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: UH like, i said they elect presidents in three. Year
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: cycles you serve on the board as the, president elect
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: and then you have a year as the president and
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: then a year as the immediate. Past president and so
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: an active coach is the actual president of. The association
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: so went up and, Did that but there were there
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: were other events. That, happened however as soon as the panel,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Discussion ended sark walked up to me and we were
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: scheduled to do have a have a quick conversation just about,
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: coaching school and he had to go into, a meeting
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: so we didn't get to. Do IT so i thought That's,
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: How hey i'm going to see Him. In tampa but
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: he came up to me after, And, said hey did
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: you need me? FOR that, i, Said yeah so we're
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: gonna hear that conversation that's coming up next when we
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Continue On SPORTS radio am thirteen Under the zone Of
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: The art. Radio, app come let's see what you, Did There, jay,
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: carman folks and. We'll know this is The song Badge
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: By eric Clapton with cream featuring on. Lead Guitar. GEORGE
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: harrison i did not. Know, That Yes george Harrison And,
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: eric clapton as, we know we're very. Very close we're
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: very very close throughout the Course of. George's Life It's
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: eric clapton who plays lead guitar while my guitar gently
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: weeks On The beatles. White album yeah that you had, Told,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: me yeah This is you're gonna hear a guitar riff,
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: right here which Is Definitely.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: George harrison this the song's.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Only about two minutes and forty five, seconds roughly, All
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: right so listen to this and tell me this doesn't
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Sound Like george harrison?
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: Right here does that not Sound Like?
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: GEORGE harrison i CAN'T believe i didn't know that, that's.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Him Be Late.
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: George harrison BUT obviously i See what jake. Did, there
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: badge because you got to have your badge to get into,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: coaching school to get into the, exhibit hall to get
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: into the lectures where the socials or any.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: Other sting if you're not wearing, that badge you ain't.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Getting in just. Telling it that's that's just the way,
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: that works. All Right steve sarkisian.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Was wearing his BADGE and i was wearing mine when we,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: were THERE and i had. A chance right after this
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: Was literally sark walked off the stage and we kind
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: of ducked behind a curtain to do this because there
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: were a lot of coaches that wanted to come up
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: and shake his hand and meet him and get selfies
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: and ask.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Him Questions, so sark let's just go.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Over here so we went around the cour and this
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: was my conversation just about coaching school and the networking
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: and things like that that.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: Go on i've heard you say.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: This before this is kind of a, signal event a
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: mile post toward getting closer to. Football season what do
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: you take away from coming, To, COACHING.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Well i think about.
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: This man there was over seventeen thousand, coaches here and
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: you think about the impact of a coach on young
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: people and the, impact, being yeah we all want to
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: win on the field or on the court or in,
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: the pool whatever our, sport is but the impact that
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: a coach has on young people in setting them up
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: for a life. In SOCIETY and i think that that's
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: what this reminds me OF when i. Get here you
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: see all the, different, coaches, men women the, different sports
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: and you think about all these people that are committing
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: to this cause to help our young people to better.
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: Our society that's what always dawns. On me as much
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: as IT is i know football seasons right around the
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: corner reminds Me of that reminds me of how many
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: people are committed to bettering our society through youth and,
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: through sport which is. Pretty exciting how.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Long did it, take you since you're starting your, sixth
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: year how long did it take you to feel truly
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: connected with that body with the coaching and coach association
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: and the coaches are all.
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: Out, there well you know it's funny. About that i'm
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: gonna tell a little joke that the second day on. The,
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: job OKAY so i got HIRED and i do my
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: press conference to that my second day on, THE job
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: i got in the Car With blake GIDEON and i
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: went and met With The Texas High School coaches association
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: and it was Down To san marcos and in that
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: room there was probably twenty five high school coaches from around.
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: The STATE and i got a VIOLATION because i wasn't
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: supposed to be talking to high.
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: School COACHES so i made it a point to immerse.
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: Myself With The Texas high school coaches and that, hasn't
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: changed and that has been that way, Since SINCE like,
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: i said literally day one on, the JOB and i,
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: you know everybody with that organization has welcomed me with,
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: open arms And so i'm very grateful and thankful.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: FOR them i tell them all.
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: The time, You know i'm the head Coach at University,
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: of texas but this is, their program these are, their
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: Kids and i'm really grateful for the support that they.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Give us All thirteen DIVISION one fbs coaches up on,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: this panel do you find some of the things that
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: they say intriguing interesting to when you hear the?
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Different, VIEWPOINTS yeah i think.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: It's great, you know you go back to, you know
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: even at the End of greig when you were asking,
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: about advice how many times did somebody bring up in,
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: some way shape or form about connection.
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: And relationships and we live.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: In a time of sport in college football where people
- 1:38:43Speaker 5: want to make, it transactional when, in reality we're trying
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: to make, it transformational and we're trying to develop relationships
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: and connection with our players and. Our coaches and why because,
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: it's important and because the, best teams the most, successful
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: organizations most, successful companies have that culture, of connectivity, of
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: love and clearly that's what we believe.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: In you you've been covering us.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: Now for six YEARS and i can talk. About culture
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: it's on blue in. The face but why it's. So
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: important it's not about just. Assembling talent it's not about
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: how much money. Somebody makes it's about how you play
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: together as. A team this is the ultimate, team sport
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: and you've got to forge those relationships and those connections
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: off the field if you want to have them on.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: The field one more thing and we'll get Together next
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Thursday in tampa and everything when all that talk and
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: everybody's asking about your team AND the sec.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: And all that other kind.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Of stuff but because that's, next week and because you
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: have this week and it's all compressed on that at
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: how much of a whirlwind is that sort of thing
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: and trying to, you know get a few days off here,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: and there and your guys doing off.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: Season work how do you.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Compartmentalize all of that at this time a year In.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: Late july what?
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: It does it REMINDS me i better do something FUN
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: after sec media days because after that, it's over, you
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: know and you think about the End. Of july, you
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: know we really get going as a Staff, early august
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: and the goal.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Is to be Playing until january.
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: Twenty fifth and along, the way we've got national signing
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: date Early. In december along, the way we've got the
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: transfer portal In. Early january so we've got a big
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: six seven months ahead. Of us AND so i think
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: the reminder is is to take a moment and take
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: a deep breath and get ready for.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: The journey appreciate. The time we'll see You. In tampa
