Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded Volume 2 Letter 45
In which the fair Pamela imparts a delicate correspondence wherein she seeks wise counsel regarding a tender dispute with her husband, who forbids her from nursing their child herself, arguing both from his sense of propriety and spiritual reasoning. She contemplates the balance between a mother's natural duties and wifely obedience, weighed against the tender persuasions and affectionate entreaties of her beloved, leaving her conscience greatly moved and in quest of sagely guidance.
