And Habs got off to off to their start, beat the Leafs in the first game, which is we're happy about that. Played last night. So we'll we'll chat about that, but lots of things to talk about. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, no, hockey season right back in the swing of things, full full go now. baseball playoffs are in full swing as well, and the NBA is just right around the corner. So great time to be a sports fan. what's that that term that that we that we use in the sports world that's gonna be coming up here soon, Jared? the sports equinox, where you have all four major Jeremy Spencer: The sports equinox. Chuck Atkinson: sports. Yeah, all four major sports that are showing up on one day. So Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: that is a sports sports fans dream where you can change a channel Jeremy Spencer: it's a Chuck Atkinson: and you can run into anything that you want. Jeremy Spencer: Best time of year. The football, Chuck Atkinson: It is, it is. Jeremy Spencer: the basketball, the hockey. Yeah. Baseball playoffs. Like Chuck Atkinson: Baseball, absolutely. Yeah. It's a it's a wild time to be a sports fan. Jeremy Spencer: you're getting the best of the baseball right now. So except for there's no Jays, but Chuck Atkinson: That's where you get baseball playoffs. I know, I know. yeah. They had a rough year. We'll put that in a rear view. That's a 2026 issue. 2027. Hopefully they're gonna do great things. So baseball though, it's been watching them the Dodgers. they played yesterday. Awesome game. They look awesome once again. And Jeremy Spencer: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: three peat is definitely not out of the question now that they Terrace Google as well. on the mound and their rotation is gonna be crazy good. Sho Hay's not gonna be able to pitch, but yeah, no, it's it doesn't really matter what you watch right now. Heck, even college football's on. yeah, it's just an awesome time to be a sports fan, quite frankly. So today, Jer, let's you know, it's we're just about afternoon here. So we're getting ready for week four. That means fantasy football, NFL, of course. And so we're gonna give some picks. We'll do some hockey rundown as well. Jerry's gonna let us know how he feels about the Habs after the first week. His too early to call, predictions maybe and review. And yeah, we'll go around the wheel, see what we can hammer out today and Hope you guys stick with us for the full show and enjoy the ride. So that being said, Jared, let's roll right into week four of NFL. How do you think the Jeremy Spencer: Week four. Chuck Atkinson: the fleas are going are gonna be doing this week? I I I I I Jeremy Spencer: Well well Chuck Atkinson: heard before we went on the air, folks, there was some panic in the Jeremy Spencer: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: in the green room here. There was some panic in the green room from Jared. he just learned that Jeremy Spencer: Little little panic. Chuck Atkinson: what's the name again? Jadari Jadavius. Jeremy Spencer: J Jadarian Price not playing this week. Slightly problematic. Chuck Atkinson: Daring Price is not boying this week and he's finding this out. Yeah, finding this out at twelve thirty on a Sunday afternoon. It's never easy. but Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, no. Well I should have looked last night, but apparently they switched last night. But but yeah, no, we had to make a little quick quick maneuver here. Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: And yeah. We'll see what we'll see what happens. We took a little bit of X Factor advice. Chuck Atkinson: So Jeremy Spencer: So it could be sabotage. We are we're hard to s but but the bench wasn't looking good. I didn't have much options. So yeah, my my options were you tell them. Chuck Atkinson: So so we're minimal to we're minimal to none. So he had to get on the phone, dial one eight hundred X Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: Factor. Chuck, I I I'll pay the ninety nine cents for Jeremy Spencer: Ha. Chuck Atkinson: the first minute and two ninety nine for every minute thereafter. I need your advice. so he went shopping and he dropped some tank. And what did he get in the meantime for a replacement again, Jared? Jeremy Spencer: Well, we got a Jalen Wright. We g we got a we Chuck Atkinson: A jail and rate, okay. So Jeremy Spencer: got Jalen Wright. So now we've got Kenneth Walker the third and Jalen Wright Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: starting this afternoon for the Flea Bastard. So it's suspect, but We're Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: we're gonna hope that C D Lamb lights it up and and we're making a surprise move this week too. I don't know if you noticed, but Jacoby Brissett is is at the helm today. Chuck Atkinson: He's he's taking the wheel today, is he? So that means you're Jeremy Spencer: He's taking the wheel today. Chuck Atkinson: sitt you're sitting Jalen Hurts then. Jeremy Spencer: I'm sitting Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love right now. Chuck Atkinson: Wow. Could you imagine starting the season off week four, telling yourself that you're gonna enroll a Jacoby Brissett over Jalen Hurts and Jordan Jeremy Spencer: Well Chuck Atkinson: Love? Jeremy Spencer: It's true, but I I the g the guy put up massive numbers for me last year at the l at the at the end of the at the end of the season. And Chuck Atkinson: He did, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: he's been okay so far to start, but last week he put up a big twenty six points and he looks pretty good and Jalen Hurts is hasn't looked as good. And Aaron Rodgers or I mean Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love is also I don't know, I'm worried about my Packers, so I've just jumped off that for a minute. We'll see what happens. We're going with the Chuck Atkinson: They got no run game. You got no defense in Green Bay. Micah Parson is gonna be out longer than expected now. there's yeah, no run game, no defense. yeah, it's not looking good in in in Packer Land these days. Well they're as long as they throw the ball to Jeremy Spencer: No passing game. We got no we got injuries everywhere. There's a little bit of passing game. Chuck Atkinson: as long as they keep up throwing the ball to Matthew Golden, that's all I care about. Go axe factor. Jeremy Spencer: That's all you yeah. Chuck Atkinson: We all have a dog Jeremy Spencer: Well Chuck Atkinson: in the fight somewhere, just don't care too much about the color of the logo. Jeremy Spencer: I still got Tucker Kraft in there that's gonna have to get some points because Goddard's hurt still, so the there's some bumps and bruises on Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. The year of the fleas Jeremy Spencer: the fleas. Chuck Atkinson: The Year of the Fleas right now we currently have a there there's a currently a nine one one dispatch call out at their location right now. So Jeremy Spencer: It we're three and three right now. Nobody said it was going to be a a smooth road. we're Chuck Atkinson: Well. Jeremy Spencer: we're aiming for the playoffs Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: and then we're going to the top from there. Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha. Optimism. You can't not lose it in week four. You have to carry it through at least week eight. Jeremy Spencer: No. It's too early to not have optimism. And I'm not and the things Chuck Atkinson: Right, exactly. Jeremy Spencer: aren't things aren't bad. I just got a few injuries. Just I still got guys that I Chuck Atkinson: That's right. Three and three. Jeremy Spencer: still got guys Still C D Lamb there, it Chuck Atkinson: Three and three is what Jeremy Spencer: could drop you a thirty five or Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. Absolutely. Three and three is not it's a lot better than one and five. not ragging on the oilers. Just you know, Wayne, you gotta have a you have an uphill battle there, one and five. so three and three, you're still Jeremy Spencer: One and five. Chuck Atkinson: fine, you know. hey, listen, if I can get to the playoffs at 13 and 13 or 14 and 14, whatever, whatever the number is, just get me to the dance, like you're saying, and see what happens when we get there. But so yeah, no, same here, X Factor, We've got three guys going this morning. had Taylor going right now, who's off to a good start, a couple of TDs against the Redskins. Sorry, the commanders. And also digs and Krosky Merritt. So the relying on Washington commanders players to produce fantasy points without Marcus Mariota, who got hurt in the first half. It's gonna be iffy come the second half. So go Jade. Jeremy Spencer: Taylor's got you right now. Taylor's got you right now forty one rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, five receipts. Five rece yeah, five catches. So Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy Spencer: he's put up sixteen and a half points already at the beginning of the third quarter. Chuck Atkinson: Nice. Yeah, if I just get Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: another another another fifteen from the com from all three combined. That's what I need to get out of those guys and I'll be fine for the rest of the day I think. But we'll see. Yeah, when you get Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, well Diggs is at four and Merritt's at four and a half, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. So I figured, you know, not to be too greedy. Fifteen points, three guys, one full half a football. I think it's doable and not too much to ask. So and when you got CMC and Brock Purdy and Rasheed Rice and Brock Bowers still to go, I'm not worried about my day. Not worried about my day. Jeremy Spencer: Y you're playing the Ronald Rangers Chuck Atkinson: Which is I'm not worried about my day. He's minus Justin Jefferson. Jeremy Spencer: And the Rangers got some he's got two guys that are not even playing. Jeffrey's got Jefferson in his lineup right now. Chuck Atkinson: Jefferson and Devontae Smith are both out today. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: So I'm not calling Luke to fix his lineup. Luke, that's on you, buddy. Jerry, you're probably messaging him right now. Make sure you fix your lineup. Jeremy Spencer: I am. Chuck Atkinson: Don't give him an easy W. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: shoot. Hey, whether he makes the adjustments or not, it's gonna be a W. That's how I look at it. I mean, for yes, just just for effort's sake. Don't wake Jeremy Spencer: Well, he should. But I'm sure he will. But we're only early yet. He's got an hour and a half. Chuck Atkinson: up Luke, man. He's busy. Jeremy Spencer: Mm. Chuck Atkinson: so so what are we thinking about week four of the actual season there? any any any predictions? Let's let's do a quick rundown of the games and Jeremy Spencer: Well we got the so right now like we got Chuck Atkinson: Do some pics there. Jeremy Spencer: the Colts and Commanders going, so that's that's underway, which Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that's yeah. I mean I can give you my prediction on that. I predict that the Colts are gonna win, but that's easy 'cause they're the game's already in play. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it's it's only seven it's seventeen thirteen right now and like I say in the third quarter. It's close game, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, it is still a close game. I mean it is the Colts. They're not a they're not the Chiefs by any stretch of the imagination. So Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: I don't care if they're playing a third string quarterback, which I think they are right now in Washington. they nothing's Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: guaranteed with the Colts. Jeremy Spencer: let's quickly just run down, we won't explain it, but let's Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, man. Jeremy Spencer: just run down our picks for the s for the rest of the afternoon. So you got the Titans and Ravens, who you got Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. I'm gonna go Ravens. You. Jeremy Spencer: Ravens here as well. Chuck Atkinson: Cool. big time. Jeremy Spencer: Patriots Bills. Chuck Atkinson: Bill's are gonna smash him. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, Bills are gonna it's it's it it's in Buffalo too. They're gonna Chuck Atkinson: In in Buffalo, May's got a weak shoulder right now, apparently. they are missing AJ Brown. they have some injury issues as well on defense. I think their top D B is Christian Gonzalez isn't gonna play today as well. So I just think they're gonna get smashed out of the building. I wouldn't be surprised if it's by twenty points. Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Jets Bears. The Bears Chuck Atkinson: I'm gonna say the Bears, but I'm gonna say it's a three point game. You're going with the Bears as well? Yeah, no, I'm Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yep. Chuck Atkinson: gonna give the Jets a little more credit. They're actually playing good hired football right now. So they're they're making interest in football games. Jeremy Spencer: Jags at the Bengals. That's a good one right here. Chuck Atkinson: I am gonna say in an upset, I'm gonna go with Jags. Jeremy Spencer: I got the Jags as well. I like the Jags. I don't know how it's an upset, but the Chuck Atkinson: I don't know if it's really an upset. I think they're both on the same level. Jeremy Spencer: Bengals are three and somehow, but they're a good team, but it's the Bengals. Chuck Atkinson: Well, it I I c I call it an upset in the terms of it's playing in Cincinnati and that's the only reason why. Cincinnati is a good team. I I I still don't Jeremy Spencer: wait, they're not three and sorry, they're two and one. I Chuck Atkinson: yeah, I I don't know about their defense. I you know, it's that's the same story with them every year. You know, show me your defense come November, and December, and then we'll see how good you guys really are. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. I like the Jags a lot though this year, so Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, same here. That's why I'm picking as an upset there. It's if anything else, it's gonna be a close game. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Cowboys at the Texans. Chuck Atkinson: I'm I wanna say the Cowboys, but the I'm gonna go with the Texans. O and three. They're gonna get the first win today. Their defense is just better than Dallas, but their defense hasn't shown up yet. So I don't know. Houston. Jeremy Spencer: No, I'm going to Cowboys. Just Rams, Eagles. Chuck Atkinson: Rams. Yeah, Jeremy Spencer: At Eagles. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Going Rams? Chuck Atkinson: going Rams easily. Yeah. The the the Eagles defense has sucked this year. I don't they haven't no turnovers yet. by their defense, which is supposed to be this great defense. No turnovers. No Devontae Smith. No AJ Brown, of course, ever more there. their run game's just not the same. I think Saquon's a little bit beat up, a little worn down, but yeah, the Rams are starting to get healthy. They get a good run game. Receivers are good. Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: then we got the cheeseheads at the Bucks. So Packers Bucks, what do you got there? Chuck Atkinson: Ugh. Do I do you have to pick a winner for this game? this should be a little more entertaining than it than it is right now to talk about. well the pay the Packers have to win, but you know what? Jeremy Spencer: The Packers have to win. That's one thing. I mean, th they'll be two and two if we win they can s they can salvage themselves. But Chuck Atkinson: I'm gonna say an upset here and the rookie Daniels, I don't know what his first name is for Tampa Bay, excuse me. I think he's gonna pull an upset today and they're gonna get the win over Green Bay. Jeremy Spencer: Mm. It's Jalen Dani d Jaden Daniels, isn't it? Chuck Atkinson: Jaden Daniels. Yeah. So I I know there's Jalen, I think it is in Washington, then there's Jaden. Yeah. Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it's Jaden. Jaden. I think. yeah, I'm just going with the Packers because well I'm just hoping that they can figure their shit out and Well, Chuck Atkinson: They they're gonna pull up their pants, yep, absolutely. Jeremy Spencer: they it's a difference between one and three or two and two. Like if they got any kind of kahunas behind them, today's the day they're gonna try and keep the Chuck Atkinson: They have to. Jeremy Spencer: the ship righted. Otherwise, yeah, it's gonna be tough. And that's a tough Chuck Atkinson: Hard yeah, it's gonna be hard to keep up with the Lions and the Vikings who are undefeated right now and the Bears if you're one and three. Yeah, you can't do that. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah, and none of them are super g none of them are great, so that's why if you can stay two and two, you can be right in it. But one and three will be tough. Chuck Atkinson: You're still yeah, you're still in the mix, yeah. Exactly. Jeremy Spencer: Dolphins Vikings. Chuck Atkinson: Vikings are gonna crush him. Jeremy Spencer: They should. Yeah, I got the Vikings there too. Chiefs Raiders? Chuck Atkinson: upset alert, Raiders. Jeremy Spencer: No, I'm gonna stay with the chefs. Chuck Atkinson: Raiders, yep. Jeremy Spencer: I'm gonna stay with the chefs there. Chuck Atkinson: field goal game at that. I'll call field goal game. Raiders. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chargers and the Chuck Atkinson: I like what they're doing. Jeremy Spencer: Seahawks. Chuck Atkinson: Don't matter. Anybody other than the Chargers. If you want to talk about the Ottawa Red Blacks, Jeremy Spencer: He This is a Chargers fan, folks. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, I'm a Chargers fan, diehard through and through, which is why I speak real. they suck. this yeah, they they absolutely suck. I would take the Ottawa Red Blacks in the CFL over the Los Angeles Chargers. I would take who yeah, and the Red Blacks are and fifteen, folks, in the C F L. So it's a really it's map, it's it's a matter of picking whoever is a suckiest suck tards in each in in each football league. And I'm still going with the CFL team. I Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: I think the Chargers could use the extra 10 yards in width and depth and length in the CFL to win a few a few more games. It might help them, but you know Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it might help them. They'd have to watch out for the Chuck Atkinson: what? If anything, in thinking that and talking that back, it would actually give the other team more yards to score points on them. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, give more more room. And they'd Chuck Atkinson: So no, they would still lose. Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: have to contend with the pole in the end zone. Chuck Atkinson: What's this thing that just smacked me in the face in the front of the goal line? Well, that's your Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha ha Chuck Atkinson: future 'cause you're never gonna see it again. Jeremy Spencer: Broncos Niners. Chargers suck. Yeah, I'm gonna take the Seahawks there too, so yeah. Broncos Niners Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no, the chargers suck, man. Niners. Niners. So yeah, that's right. Okay. Yeah. Niners, yeah. CMC baby, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, I'll I'm going I'm gonna take the Broncos. Chuck Atkinson: There we go. Jeremy Spencer: It's a toss up, but I I like the I like the Broncos. Lions, Panthers, Monday night football. Chuck Atkinson: Hey, i i i i it can very well. Lines and lines and who? Jeremy Spencer: Panthers Monday night. Chuck Atkinson: No, that is that tonight. Jeremy Spencer: no, that's sun that's tonight's game. Yeah, sorry. Chuck Atkinson: Lions and Panthers. high scoring game in Carolina, is it? Jeremy Spencer: Battle of the Kitty Cats. Chuck Atkinson: It's in Carolina though, right? Jeremy Spencer: It's in Carolina, yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, then I I I'll you know what, I will go with the Lions still. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Me too. Sig Carolina? Well yeah, I'll still go with the lines. Chuck Atkinson: I'm still with the Lions. It yeah, yeah. It doesn't matter if it's in Cleveland. Yeah, it no, it's not in Detroit. It's in no, I'll still go with the Lions, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: All right. Monday night football, Falcons at the Saints. That should be a good game, actually. Chuck Atkinson: well it's gonna be a really good game. It's the I think it's the anniversary game Jeremy Spencer: If you like the Saints. Chuck Atkinson: of the yeah, absolutely. Listen, both offenses I think are gonna start picking up. Well, the Saints have already been a a great offense this far this year. I think everybody's kind of woken up to Tyler Shuck. great young Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: quarterback with the Saints. I warned you and I I advised you at the end of last year, going to the draft this year, he was gonna be something good. And The Schwami of the X Factor is right. the Shuck is the man. Great receivers in New Orleans. But no, it should be a high scoring game. what's that? Jeremy Spencer: Well, he he finds himself he's at the helm in my Halifax League. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, that's exactly it. So it seems like the bastards took a little bit of that X factor advice. And you know, you must you must have a winning team down there because of Jeremy Spencer: I do have a winning team. I'm four and two. But I've also got Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha. Jeremy Spencer: I've got Jacoby on that team as well. I'm a big Jacoby Brissett fan this last two years. He's g you can't Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: you can't beat having him on your bench. He just if you need a quarterback, you can go in. Put up points. Chuck Atkinson: Honestly, you know what? I'm in some of these freebie leagues, Jared, aside from our two, you know, our two paid leagues. And I had Herbert in four of the five of them. I dropped him in four of the five of them and picked up Brissett in all four of them. Because Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: it it's not about name brand. It's about what can you do and what have you done. And Brissett is just lighting it Jeremy Spencer: And he just put he Chuck Atkinson: up. Jeremy Spencer: He does. He's I don't know what like how old is he? He's not even Chuck Atkinson: He does. Aside from week two in T. Jeremy Spencer: a kid. Chuck Atkinson: No, no, he's in his early thirties, early, early to mid thirties, thirty-three. Jeremy Spencer: thirty three thirty three. Chuck Atkinson: And you know, he he's getting his chance finally, consistent chance with Arizona. I throw away that week two game against Seattle. It's Seattle. They always play Arizona well and hard. I mean, they're a division rival, they know each other too well. So you throw that one out, and the f two other weeks aside, Jacoby Purset is a top ten quarterback. Jeremy Spencer: Yep. Last week against Chuck Atkinson: So no. Jeremy Spencer: last week against the forty Niners, man. He put up two hundred and eighty yards, two touchdown passes. So Chuck Atkinson: exactly. That's what I mean. Like the guy is gonna put up a fight every time he goes out there. but yeah, going back Jeremy Spencer: That's against a tough team, so Chuck Atkinson: yeah. But going back to A Atlanta and New Orleans, I'm gonna take New Orleans at home. Jeremy Spencer: I am also gonna take New Orleans at home. Chuck Atkinson: In a high scoring match, though. I call field goal game as well there. So a lot of field goal games this week, I think. A lot of them. So but no, hopefully the the Chargers can get off the snide there and get their first win in Seattle. I'm not banking on it, actually. I'm betting against it. And Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: I would bet against them every week, quite frankly, at this point, until shown otherwise. Jeremy Spencer: I I got my sights I got my sights set today on the Chiefs Raiders game is Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: one of the games to watch. They're both three and I think this is gonna be for me it's gonna be one of the it'll be a fun game to watch. They it's oddly Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, absolutely. That one there and Jeremy Spencer: enough the Raiders are three and Nobody really thought the Chiefs were gonna look like their old selves and they they have th through the first not quite, but pretty pretty close. They've been pretty they're a good team. No, no, Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no. Jeremy Spencer: I think people were writing mahomes off going into the year. Like Chuck Atkinson: Well, and that's just plain stupid when you think about it, right? Like who in their right mind would say this guy's past his prime? I mean, if it's the Chiefs, it's pat yeah, I Jeremy Spencer: Well and even if Chuck Atkinson: you know what I mean? Like, show me until I'm wrong. Like one year. Last year, I think that was just, you know, a a an aborition of just one year though. It it was he's hurt. You Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: go to the it's like the it's like the Florida Panthers. I'm gonna go over here just for a quick hot second. It's like the Panthers. You know, you make the playoffs every year, you go to the finals every year, you get worn down, you play the all these extra games, all this extra energy goes to all this extra winning. So eventually it's gonna get caught up to you. You're gonna have a down year. And just like the Panthers did last year, missing the playoffs, the Chiefs did the exact same thing in the NFL. And now what happens? Panthers are healthy again, they're gonna probably make a good playoff run in hockey. Chiefs are no different. Actually, they're better than the play the Panthers when you think about it. Just Pat McHolmes is nuts. Jeremy Spencer: Well and the Chiefs didn't just sit they didn't just kind of I mean they did some things too. They added Jalen Walker the third. Like he Chuck Atkinson: Kenneth. Jeremy Spencer: he or Kenneth Walker, I mean, yep, Jalen. I'm on Jalen's. Everybody's name Jalen today. But anyway, you know, Walker Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Everybody's saying Jalen's the QB, the RB, yeah. the wide receiver, our tr a a trade you just had to process for Jalen Waddle in our league, yeah, in our fantasy league. Yeah. Got Jalen on the mind. Jeremy Spencer: That's right. Yeah, there's a lot of Jalen's. A lot of Jalen's. But wa wa Kenneth Walker going to Kansas City Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, he's the man there. That was big. Jeremy Spencer: has really changed the running game around again. Like he he was playing yeah, coming from Seattle. Chuck Atkinson: Well what Jeremy Spencer: They're sharing time and he was he he he was really good last year, but he just didn't get the ball enough and then now this year they can focus on him and we're seeing that he can he can carry the load. Chuck Atkinson: What they what it did was it gave Mahomes a a second life to his career essentially for the next five years where he doesn't it it's not all about Mahomes making fancy plays, jump passes, no look passes. I mean, all those things are great and they're gonna come in time, but it's not something that he has to rely on to save and win the game for the team, because they don't have a run game. Right? So Jeremy Spencer: Well we've seen it over the years, man. When a when a an elite quarterback gets an elite running back, it it does. It does Chuck Atkinson: Or how yeah. Jeremy Spencer: a it it does big things for them. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, i i it's it's not about them having the most productive season anymore. It's about the team having the best chance to win and consistently win by keeping everybody healthy. And yeah, I think Walker, that is the the signing of the offseason, in the NFL, quite frankly. That Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, man, it's been great. Chuck Atkinson: that that just that just made Patrick Mahomes an MVP in my books. I think he's gonna be the MVP of the season. Jeremy Spencer: It's it well, it just makes them so much more dangerous again because now d when Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Jeremy Spencer: you're playing against them, you got a you got a game plan for Patrick Mahomes. You got a game plan for elite running back guy that you know, that could just he he can go third and third and twelve and get you that first down when other teams, you know, that's it's it's an automatic over and a a feel you know, a kick's coming. Plus Mahomes can then hurt hurt you Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no, Jeremy Spencer: with some passes and Travis Kelsey looks a little younger again, so anyway. Chuck Atkinson: yeah. Yeah, yeah, exactly. I mean their their offense again, looking good, looking great. get their their defense to match and yeah, they're gonna be a Super Bowl contender once again though. So no, it's you it's gonna be an awesome another awesome Sunday of football, fancy football as well. So hockey Jeremy Spencer: Yep. Chuck Atkinson: season though, hockey season's up and running, Jared. you're you're in your glory right now. The the Maple East. Jeremy Spencer: Up and running. Chuck Atkinson: they lost to the to the Habs on in in opening night. that always makes any Habs fan happy. Not only did the Jeremy Spencer: yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Habs beat them twice in one night last week, but they but they beat him in opening night when it mattered. Jeremy Spencer: That's right. We then beat him again when it counts. Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. And yes, you know what what what's your thoughts on Jeremy Spencer: Do you do you wanna Chuck Atkinson: on the Habs in the first couple of games there after after what you're seeing? Jeremy Spencer: Well, we had unfortunately we played Tuesday and then had a big layoff until last night. So we didn't get to I didn't get to watch much. We saw them kinda come out a little bit slow against the leaves and get behind and then and then turned it on a bit and then we're able to to win that game in regulation, which is what I suggested. I had said four two, but I believe I think it was what was it three two, so or yeah, something like that. But and then last night the Habs and the Penguins get off to a quick start where the Habs get off to a one-nothing lead quickly. And Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: and it was a tight game for throughout most of the game and all all of a sudden we just got we took some penalties and anyway in the later in the second started working ourselves behind the the eight ball there and got down five to one. And but it we're never out. We were never never out, so you know. Mr. Saturday night, Gold Caulfield pops one. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Not not the That's right. Jeremy Spencer: and you know, what what I took out of that is we had a not a great game, started off poorly, were able to come back and still squeeze a point out in the second game of the season when guys could have just it's only the second game of the season, we could just we'll get them next game. But they were down Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy Spencer: five to one, come back, worked their ass off, tied the game up, got the point, lost in overtime, unfortunately. But Habs look the Habs look good. I I'm I'm happy with what I've seen in the first two games. Chuck Atkinson: And you know I couldn't have said it better myself. That's that's what you want to see out of a team that has the expectations that this team has now moving forward is they they they're not folding their tent after being down four goals. They're they're fighting back, they're clawing back all the way up to the very last minute of the third period and sending that thing to overtime. We're as you said, just scratching away just scratching away Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it's game two. You could easily have just said Chuck Atkinson: just scratching away one point in game two. what could have been, as you said, you know, a throwaway game. if they had that mentality of being a Detroit Red Wing where it's just game two, we're getting our ass handed to us. nothing matters in our world. we'll get them next time. Not you guys, though. Not you guys. You guys have that that belief in your team and and and the players on the bench that a four-goal deficit is no different than a one-go deficit. We can come back, guys. We can do this. You know what I mean? They they just don't have that. Jeremy Spencer: I've I've watched the Habs No, I've watched my team a long time. I'm forty nine years old and I've watched them Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: all the years. We've had some good teams, but I I I don't remember really seeing the Habs look as good in my lifetime as as they Chuck Atkinson: I'm stoked for you guys. Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: are right now. Even my dad, who's you know, his he's a he he's a Guy La Fleur era and the you know, and he's seen some pretty awesome Habs teams. And and even him, he's saying, you know, this team is it compares with some of those teams. Chuck Atkinson: They're fun to watch. Jeremy Spencer: It's just fun. They're fun to watch. So Chuck Atkinson: That's exactly it. So yeah, it's but let's go to the other side of the coin. The on the other side of the coin. Jeremy Spencer: On the y y your red wings were shut out. Yeah, your red wings shut out two nothing by the Rangers to start. What what do you Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: what do you feelin' y are you still feeling the same as when it started or And I don't know what they did Chuck Atkinson: Well, how was I feeling I how how was I feeling? What was my take on the Red Wings there last week? something to the nature of tire. Jeremy Spencer: It w it was it was a non playoff Chuck Atkinson: Was it was it did it sound something like a tire fire, a burn burning, the the the sound of somebody having a a bowel movement, perhaps. because that is what I'm hearing out of Detroit right now. Nobody wants to play in Detroit. not only does Larkin not want to play there, the fans don't want him playing there. They gave him a rousing ovation, a chorus of of of of wondrous booze, when they announced his name at opening night and just showing Jeremy Spencer: Well Chuck Atkinson: him love and appreciation they have for him and his trade request. And then I just read the Jeremy Spencer: Well basically reciprocating what he's told them. He he's saying I don't want to play with for Chuck Atkinson: absolutely. Jeremy Spencer: you guys. Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. But now, not only that, I read here last night that one of our better defensemen, Simon Edvinson, doesn't want to play with them as well. So he's not signed. he wants out of Detroit. He's asked for a trade request. So and on top of it, we have our fans yelling, Sell the team during the game. And we lose two nothing in the opening night. So If that's not a season preview, folks, I don't know what is. Jeremy Spencer: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: playoffs this year. No, don't worry about us. Don't worry about us. We're not gonna get in your way. The Montreals of the world, the Toronto's of the world. Jeremy Spencer: You're not feeling all right. Chuck Atkinson: I'm not listening I could just sit here and just be dumbfounded for the next 60 minutes, just trying to get some word that defines what this nonsense is going on in Motor City. It honestly reminds me of the early 1980s. and the mess that the Illich family bought. And now it's the on the other foot where we're asking the Illich family to sell the team to people who actually know what the hell is going on. Need some hockey minds in Jeremy Spencer: Well unfortunately. Chuck Atkinson: there. Need some hockey minds that's not Steve Eiserman. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. You guys are you guys are playing another team that's got a situation on their hands this afternoon, the Jets. So what do you think what do you think that will look like? I mean, they're handling it slightly different. They've suspended Halibuck and they've told you can take your big contract and you can just wait till whenever what is we can trade ya, otherwise you're not playing. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. I I I I listen. Jeremy Spencer: So they're trying to handle a little more internally and the players seem to be a little more happy about that because they basically said they wanted him there to play, but if he doesn't want to be there, they don't want him there either. So you w how can you have a guy like that play for you? Chuck Atkinson: Well, the players are gonna say that because the players are gonna say that because they obviously want the guy on their team. They would want Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Hellebuck on their team. The guys would want Larkin on their team. Why wouldn't they? They're they're the guys they're bringing in to replace them aren't as good as those guys there. So obviously, you know, they're saying the right things that they want them on their team, because A, they're professionals, they're acting professional, and they don't want to create waves in their own clubhouse. And Jeremy Spencer: But you can't tell me the guy's in the Detroit dressing room right now. Like that's gotta be an awkward situation, man. I've played hockey, I've Chuck Atkinson: Awkward. It's Jeremy Spencer: played team sports. If you're playing ho playing with a guy that does not wanna be there, doesn't doesn't like you as doesn't want to be your teammates, why the you can't you it's hard to play with that. You can't you're not gonna be good. Chuck Atkinson: But I I'm not gonna I'm not gonna listen, I'm not gonna speak for Larkin. I'm not gonna speak for Hellibuck. I don't know why they don't wanna be there. It could just be maybe mistrusted management. It could be they were I Jeremy Spencer: I think that's Larkin's case, but Chuck Atkinson: honestly I my personal opinion why they don't want to be there is because as you and I discussed previously in the past episode, they want to hang out with their friends. Larkin gave them a list of three teams essentially Florida, Minnesota. In Las Vegas. Really? I mean, come on. Jeremy Spencer: Mm. That put puts your team in a bad spit situation. If those teams could make a move for you, they would. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Not to mention not to mention those teams don't have the cap space for a Larkin. Not to mention they're not gonna their their draft capital is pissed poor because a they're good teams and they don't draft in the bottom half of the draft every year in the top Jeremy Spencer: Right. Chuck Atkinson: five, top ten. So what are we gonna get in return? A twentieth round a twentieth pick? Right? Like I'm not gonna trade a number one guy. Jeremy Spencer: Not much. He's he's he's handcuffed his own team. Chuck Atkinson: I'm not trading a number one guy to Vegas for a twenty fifth overall pick. In next year's draft. You know, no, it's just not happening. So I would just recommend to Larkin and Halibuck and any of these other players who all of a sudden think that because I just signed a long term contract, I can dictate where I go. No, it's a no-movement clause for both sides. You don't have to go anywhere they want to trade you, and guess what? They don't have to trade you, they can suspend you and not pay you. So it's up to you how if you want to be a grown man or a grown BI. You know what? That's a that's what it boils down to. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, I think it's something like thirty six thousand dollars a day that halibucks Chuck Atkinson: yeah, he's losing a lot of money. He's losing a is it a day or a game? Jeremy Spencer: Or maybe a game. Maybe a game. Chuck Atkinson: Probably it's probably a game. Probably a game. because if it's a d Jeremy Spencer: It might be a day. The guy's making what little twelve million dollars a year or something. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, you do twelve million times divided by eighty two games, so what do we get? Jeremy Spencer: It's more than thirty six thousand. A lot more. Yeah, it would be a lot more, right? I don't know, yeah. I th I heard the number thirty Chuck Atkinson: Is it? Yeah. Okay. I c I mean it c could be wrong. But regardless, he regardless, he'd get Jeremy Spencer: six thousand. Chuck Atkinson: right. But regardless though, he's he's eating a bill that, you know, it could be a paycheck. But you know what? Let him sit on the sidelines. As long as they're not having to pay him that money, I'm fine. Just sit home. Sit home. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. What I hate about both of their situations is it's public. You could have gone behind the scenes, talked to your manager, said stuff, and just worked but they they wouldn't have I get both sides. The man they wouldn't really rush to get you out of town either. But they're if they can't get you out of town, then you've now you've handcuffed both sides. Like you you you can't you can't get yourself traded if nobody if you haven't opened up the doors to enough teams and the team that's trying to trade ya You can't sync their franchise for the next ten years just because you decided you decided you wanted to go. You can't just lose Connor Hellibuck. Like you need something. Chuck Atkinson: No yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Same with Larkin, like you can't just you can't just lose You gotta get something. They're under contract. Like you otherwise you would have gone a different Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. that's exactly it. And Jeremy Spencer: direction. Chuck Atkinson: and you would have done it a lot earlier than maybe in the off season, like right after before the draft happens. or yeah, before you do the draft. That way there you don't at least as a professional hockey player, you're giving your team, the organization that you want to depart from, a legit opportunity to recoup as much top prospect hockey player potential out of that as possible, without saying two months before the season starts. I want out here. Everybody's already signed on their teams. All the drafting has been done. Now that team, now your team that you are trying to screw over, well, they have to redo, they have to wait eight more months now to really reset based off your ask. So what I would suggest these guys do is shut their mouth, take their millions of dollars they're making on the second or third year of their long term deals, play the season out, be professional, and approach it again in the offseason after you're done. And then give the team a full off season to make the improvements and trades that they can do to help potentially you know, accommodate your ask and your request. But don't sit there and try to handicap your team, you know, a month before the season starts or to during the season because you're a whiny little bitch. Cause that's what it sounds like and that's what it is. And that's how the fans see it, and that's how it's being perceived. And if it's not, well Maybe your agent sucks and they gave you bad advice. So but that's my take on the Red Wings Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, no it's Chuck Atkinson: and you know the trades and the no movement stuff. So your Habs are off to a fantastic start. My wings are off to a shit start once again, which is nothing new. it's great to be a Habs fan and a Packers fan. Not so much to be a Charger fan and a wings fan. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: You know, Jeremy Spencer: No. Chuck Atkinson: the the nobody's turning the lights on. Nobody says, Leave the light on for me when I come home. No, there is no bulb in there. The socket's empty. So what can I say? What can I say? Yeah, it's Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Right. Chuck Atkinson: we'll see, we'll see. It's still early. I mean, I could be wrong. The the the wings could be a Stanley Cup contender. We could make the playoffs. I'm lying through my teeth as as I say it. Yeah, I can't even say Jeremy Spencer: A lot of things have to change there. There's a lot of good teams in that division. Chuck Atkinson: I can't say that truthfully with an honest smile on my face and and believe what I'm saying. So but you know what? The Habs will make the playoffs. That's happening. We're not gonna occupy one of those spaces for ya. So you can have our our non existent playoff spot. So Jeremy Spencer: Thanks, bud. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, you're welcome. You're welcome. And yeah, so we at some baseball. what's that, Jerry? Jeremy Spencer: Well, you know, and I have I have some extra jerseys. I have I have an extra Habs jersey over here too I could I could lend you for the season if you'd like. Yeah, I got a PK soup and Chuck Atkinson: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Jeremy Spencer: jersey right here, and I got a gold coffield, buddy. Chuck Atkinson: That's that's still Jeremy Spencer: Ha. Chuck Atkinson: gonna stay there regardless. Okay, it's not moving. I'm not bailing. I'm just not can't not not bailing. Jeremy Spencer: I Chuck Atkinson: Just complaining and pissing and moaning about them. That's all. That's it. But that's right. I know. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, well, they're gonna need more of that because something's gonna have to happen. They gotta do they gotta make some changes. It's been I've been hearing it from other Red Wings fans. no, we're gonna be good this year, we're gonna be good this year, but I think this is the year finally most of you just just decided that the last four years the exact same thing over and over again have and it's been longer, but the last three the last three Chuck Atkinson: Well, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: years you guys have really you guys have been rebuilding too, but the last two, three years, you guys have ha Chuck Atkinson: Should have been there. Jeremy Spencer: Everybody's been thinking the corner's gonna get turned and it just never it hasn't. This is probably year four of n going nowhere. So Chuck Atkinson: It hasn't. So we had yeah, so so in other words, we had to get like honestly, we were patient for for six years of of no complaining. We had our long twenty-six, twenty-seven year run in the playoffs, got our three, four cups in there. So we we knew we had a good run. We had you know it was a good time. And every time has to come to an end like that, right? And you know, you have to rebuild, retool, redraft. but Jeremy Spencer: Yep. yeah, and you're patient for a while. Chuck Atkinson: but right, and and every team goes through for the most part. Jeremy Spencer: You can't be patient for a decade. Chuck Atkinson: No, six years we can suffer. after year six, it's our now we need to start seeing the the fruits of this so called labor. But it's that Jeremy Spencer: You know. And it's not even the fruits, say, like, of the big game like winning the cup. It's not even about that. It's just about being competitive and in the dance. Chuck Atkinson: No, just get into the g just get just get to the goddamn playoffs. That's it. I I'm not asking for a Stanley Cup. I'm not. Just get me to the playoffs. But when a seven, eight, nine, ten years Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, and then have a chance when you're there. Don't do the leaps or you can't get out of the first round for ten years either. That's not a that's that's that's you gotta get there and do something, but you don't have to win. Chuck Atkinson: Right. Yeah. I mean honestly honestly if we got there once and and got swept I'd almost be happy that we got there. Just to say, you know what, we Right. Just to say we just to say we occupied a Jeremy Spencer: Well, it'd be one thing that that's okay the first time. Like we went in, got beaten the first we th the lot two years ago and got in and got beaten. Chuck Atkinson: just to say we occupied a playoff spot would be nice. How we went out is irrelevant. Jeremy Spencer: It's coming someday. Chuck Atkinson: How we went out is irrelevant. Yeah, someday. But you know, well it's Sunday afternoon. It's what you know, football's on on on on the schedule here. So I'm not gonna get too down about my day ahead. Jeremy Spencer: Coming on here in the next forty five minutes or so? Chuck Atkinson: That's right. You know, it's we have a nice day ahead of us here. So yeah, any any any big predictions, anything for today? what do you think baseball there? I know you're not watching it as much as I am, but like I said the Dodgers are doing great. Yankees they're trying to hang in. The Rays I think are gonna make it to the World Series. and any any take from you for for ball there? Jeremy Spencer: Not really. I just Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: it's simple prediction, things like the Dodgers will probably win. They the Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: Like, how can you not and if Chuck Atkinson: Well, you know, it's Jeremy Spencer: they don't win it's a disappointment. They've got so much money wrapped up in that team. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. But once again though, it's a case of, you know, they've won it two years in a row. they're they have been injured a lot this year. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, they've been a little more injured. What's Chuck Atkinson: We'll we'll see. We'll see. I mean, they're they're getting healthy at the right time. Tay, I mean, Tay Oscar, he had a great year last year. not last year, but last night he had a great game. He had a home run. Kyle Tucker finally hit a home run for the Dodgers as well. They've been waiting for that payoff. He had one of those seasons like Vlady, unfortunately. big, Jeremy Spencer: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: big contract, sixty million dollars from him. And I think he might have hit it maybe just more than a dozen home runs. So two players who've you know really under underprofessional. Formed their their contracts. hard to live up to those big deals though. It's it's hard. It's it does, right? And especially Jeremy Spencer: That's the problem, man, when you take those big deals. I think it just saddles so much pressure on yourself that it just I mean, of course they want to put up the big numbers. They just Chuck Atkinson: 100%. You know, it's not like these guys don't want to produce, but you know, in Vladdy's case, Jeremy Spencer: It's just a Chuck Atkinson: I laid on him more so than Kyle Tucker. the guy was paid 40 million, he didn't move residencies, the address stayed the same. Expectations stayed the same every year, you know, except for you get more money. Kyle Tucker, Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: he just went to the Dodgers. Be a you know, be a bigger piece to the team. We don't expect you to do everything, but you know, 60 million is certainly a lot of money for a ball player. It is, Jeremy Spencer: Mm-hmm. Chuck Atkinson: and that's that's that's a lot of expectations. So glad to see he's turning it on for the playoffs, but but Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, Anything else you want to highlight for today, Jared? anything that we missed for for for our folks, for for our fans out there. Jeremy Spencer: No. Well, there's probably lots of stuff we didn't talk about, but but that's what I got. Chuck Atkinson: I know. We didn't even touch about yeah, we didn't even touch basketball yet. You know, basketball season's right around the corner. we're gonna be talking a lot about Raptors and Kawhi and all that's coming up. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. It'll get a little interesting. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, and but yeah, no, we'll we'll we'll do some some check-ins there today. we'll stay tuned for our shorts, of course, guys. guys and girls out there, like, share, subscribe. Please make some comments for us as well. We wanna get some feedback. we want to know what you guys think of the show so far. any hot takes that you guys might have as well. And yeah, so we'll like I said, do a couple of shorts for you guys today as we're watching some games, give you some live feedback as as we're doing so. And so with that being said, I am gonna call it here. Jair, you wanna sign us off, buddy? Jeremy Spencer: yeah. No, we'll just have a great week everybody and never microwave a fish at work. Chuck Atkinson: That a boy. That's a home run right there.
