- 3:14Association is here with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah,
- 3:17good morning, welcome to the show, and happy Friday. Good morning,
- 3:22how are you? I'm doing fine? Great to have your your cohort.
- 3:24Angie Gillan Water was running around a building a little bit earlier. She
- 3:30was on with Steve Stephen, Jenny and V one hundred. I think she
- 3:32was on with Rob Reel and KWS and also on with Steve Animal on the
- 3:38Mountain. So glad she's got a lot of her shots up to date.
- 3:40If she's gonna hang out with Steve Animal, that's awesome. She is running
- 3:45around like crazy every day this week, so she's definitely a leader for sure.
- 3:51Well we got her out of here because you know, I know I
- 3:53already had you schedule to be on anyway, and I knew that she,
- 3:55you know, had a lot of stuff to do, as do you.
- 3:57But I appreciate you being here. We're gonna get to our pet of the
- 4:00Week coming up momentary, but I first want to talk about Texas and Tails
- 4:03tomorrow night at six Capital Market. The big question is are there still tickets
- 4:08available? Yes, so you can still. I believe we posted something maybe
- 4:13like almost an hour ago that had the link to goes too straight to the
- 4:18ticket. So if you are looking for a last minute ticket, definitely go
- 4:23ahead and take today to go and get them. If you go to our
- 4:28I think it's on our Facebook as well, as I believe you can go
- 4:30to our website and get them from there as well. But if you go
- 4:32to our Facebook, it's a direct link that will take you right to it.
- 4:36So definitely go get them. We want to see everybody there. There's
- 4:40going to be food, drinks, entertainment, animals, and there's even going
- 4:44to be a puppy race, So definitely come on out all right, talk
- 4:46about this puppy race. Yes, I believe it's just going to be uh.
- 4:51We had a docs race last year, but this year instead of docs
- 4:57and race. We're going to do just puppy race, So just puppies that
- 5:00want to be included in the race will be able to race in the race.
- 5:04Are you allowed to gamble on them? That? I don't think I'm
- 5:10kidding. I'm kidding, Anna, how long have you known me? You
- 5:13don't take anything I say seriously. You know that gambling. Gambling is is
- 5:17frowned upon at the event tomorrow night. Of course it is Kentucky Derby Knight
- 5:20too, right, so you got some things going on with that as well,
- 5:23right, Yes, yeah, we do have. The whole event is
- 5:26seemed Derby, So definitely bring your big old hats and your floral attire,
- 5:31your pastel attire and come on out. And this thing has really, Hannah
- 5:38turned into one of the five six biggest events in Charleston. Every year.
- 5:42You have these big events, these signature events that everybody looks forward to,
- 5:46and Texas and Tails is becoming one of those events. Yes, and we're
- 5:50very really glad that it is. We've been doing it for a handful of
- 5:54years now, but I've been included that for the past three years, so
- 5:57it's definitely fun. I've had my experience with it. It's very very worth
- 6:01it. I definitely would say get your ticket. It's the ticket price is
- 6:05definitely worth what you're getting. Yeah, it's very very and I just think
- 6:10that everybody should come out. The music is always going, so it's definitely
- 6:14a good time. It is definitely a good time. But it's tomorrow night
- 6:15at six Is that the start time? Yeah, six o'clock at Capitol Market.
- 6:19To get information available on the Shelter social media and on their website as
- 6:25well, So it's going to be a great night tomorrow night at Capitol Market.
- 6:28All right, let's talk about Pip. Pip. Pip is our adopt
- 6:32me please pet of the Week from the because All Charlest Newmain Association has always
- 6:35picture posted on my social media, Dave Alan Radio and also the Dave Allan
- 6:40Chill ONEX. Hannah tell us about Pip. All right, Well, Pip
- 6:46is a male and he is around three years old. Again, we always
- 6:50go by their guns and their teeth and lusty, we know for sure how
- 6:54old they are and that gives us a good round about how like their age.
- 6:59He is my riches. He is vaccinated, so he's definitely ready to
- 7:03go on hikes, ready to go for runs, ready to go play in
- 7:06a dog tark. He's considered a play group rock star at the shelter,
- 7:12which typically just means that he gets along with pretty much every dog that we've
- 7:15encountered him with and he loves them all. He likes to play. He's
- 7:21bashful with people at first a little bit, or at least he was a
- 7:26very very short period of time, though, he will warm up very quickly.
- 7:30He just kind of that initial moment is like wait a minute, who
- 7:32are you? And then he's like, okay, wait, you can pet
- 7:34me. So he's definitely a sweetie. I would feel like he would be
- 7:40fine in a family setting to be like a family dog. Of course,
- 7:45with any children around. I always advised caution, always teaches kids as well
- 7:49as the dogs some training and some boundaries stuff that expectation with both parties.
- 7:57But he did come in as a stray and I actually found him. He
- 8:01was running around in my hometown and he had another guy with him and they
- 8:07just kind of followed each other around. But they do not have to be
- 8:09like adopted together like that. So Pip is definitely looking through a home and
- 8:16he's very very sweet. He's very pretty now what he is. I'm not
- 8:20entirely sure. He's like black and tan, so he kind of has like
- 8:24turky ears, and he's maybe like honestly, I couldn't even tell you.
- 8:30He looks like a mixture of a bunch of things. He's kind of like
- 8:33the classic West Virginia brown dog as they called him. Is that right?
- 8:35Yes? Yeah, that was a twist. Yeah, I mean he's a
- 8:39beautiful dog. And again his pictures posted on my social media pages. Now,
- 8:43you told me via text last night, Hannah that you were the one
- 8:46that actually brought him in because you found him in clintdenn And uh. And
- 8:50he was hanging out at the Family Dollar is that right? Yes? So
- 8:54he was kind of hanging around there for like two or three months, and
- 8:58well you can get everything a family Dollar, why not, you know,
- 9:01right? Right? But he was getting said by the Family Dollar people because
- 9:05he just kept coming back, and eventually they were like, all right,
- 9:07well let's just get him some food. And they really really did take care
- 9:11of him, they loved him. But one day I was just like,
- 9:15you know what, we have, we have the space right now, let
- 9:18me go ahead and grab him. And I grabbed him and he was definitely
- 9:20very sweet. I'll grab the other one along with him and brought up with
- 9:24the shelter. They're they're both very very sweet. The other one is just
- 9:26a little bit more shy. Okay, Well, Pip's a beautiful dog and
- 9:30again the classic Western India brown dog. If you're looking for a great pat
- 9:33is as you said, he would be a fantastic But now he's a microchip
- 9:37and vaccinated, but not fixed yet, but will be. Is that right
- 9:41correct? Yeah, not fixed yet, but he will. All right,
- 9:43beautiful beautiful dog. Get to get up there and h and get Pip all
- 9:46right quickly because I know we've talked about several things and you've got a lot
- 9:50of work to do to get ready for tuxes and tails tomorrow night. Talk
- 9:54about anything else going on with this shelter. I noticed you it is cat
- 9:56season up there. Yes, just it is season. But we also have
- 10:03Thisisle Pet Foundation adoption special going on until the fifteenth. All adult dogs,
- 10:09cats and kittens are included in this special. Now they're not fully sponsored.
- 10:13We do have a handful of dogs that are fully sponsored just by like different
- 10:18agencies or individuals, but this adoption special is I believe they're fifty for their
- 10:26adoption. See, so definitely come on out. That is a definitely good
- 10:30discounted price for all the animals there. Come and get them for the weekend.
- 10:35And you can even foster if you are not sure if you want to
- 10:37adopts first. We have plenty of dogs that could use a foster just to
- 10:41see how they do a new home, how they do with your pets and
- 10:43stuff like that. So come on out, all right handed, Texas and
- 10:48Tails tomorrow night at six o'clock. If you not get yeah, not get
- 10:50gotten your tickets, you need to make sure that you do so. And
- 10:54again, this event or any of the other events that you folks do,
- 10:56would not be possible without the community out all the sponsors that make it all
- 11:01happen. I won't ask you to go over them all, they know who
- 11:03they are, but I'll just give you the generic time to just thank them
- 11:07all. Yes, yes, we are definitely very thankful and appreciative of all
- 11:11the sponsors that help us get through all of this, that help fund and
- 11:16really just are a big part of these events that we have. All right,
- 11:20good luck with everything tomorrow night, Hannah, Tuxas and Tales and We've
- 11:24got information available on your website, on your social media and online as well.
- 11:26Thanks a lot to see you tomorrow night. Thanks a lot. Thank
- 11:30you and a gardener from the Gannala charlest Remaine Association with Pip this week's Adopt
- 11:35Me Please Pet of the Week. Pip was found in Clint Dennon, hanging
- 11:39out the family Dollar store there. Hannah herself brought Pip to the shelter.
- 11:43Three years old, approximately male, micro chipped and vaccinated. Not fixed yet
- 11:48but will be a little bashful at first. Could use some leash training,
- 11:52but seems to be fine with kids once Pip gets over that initial shyness.
- 11:58A very very great would be a great family pet, So go get Pipping
- 12:03again. I've got pips picture posted on my social media Dayvland Radio and also

- 16:55District nineteen. I need you to. Will you state for the record you've
- 16:59never eating dogs. I promise with all of my heart. I have never
- 17:06eaten a dog or a puppy, anything along that line of a cute,
- 17:12little fluffy little just wanted to make sure because you're an animal ever, yes,
- 17:18you're an animal. Kind of animals. You got now because I know
- 17:19you are animals running around. Oh gosh, we have two Newfoundlands, a
- 17:25pickanese, two birds, two cats, and a bunch of chickens. What
- 17:30do you building an arc over there. I mean, I'm trying. I'm
- 17:33trying. We're gonna put them in the pond and you know, just float
- 17:37around. Put the picket in the pond. He gets in the pond.
- 17:41All right, this is getting off track here. That's what happens on Fridays.
- 17:45All right. So, uh, you are Republican Delian District nineteen running
- 17:49for re election, A long time guest contributor to the show. But many
- 17:53people they not know about you personally. I mean they know all the issue,
- 17:57not all the issues you have, I don't mean, but they know
- 18:00all the issues that you advocate for. But let's talk about let's talk about
- 18:06Cathy hescrasts. Who are you? Well, like I said, like you
- 18:11said, I've been a delegate now, I'm in my third year. I
- 18:14was appointed and then elected. Contrary to popular belief of some, I have
- 18:18a degree from West Virginia State University, actually two, I have an associate
- 18:22and a bachelor's. They're in biology, with concentrations in micro and molecular biology.
- 18:29My husband, Mark and I own a farm in Buffalo, and contrary
- 18:33to popular belief, from there too, I have been there for twenty three
- 18:36years and I am not moving, as it's been said, don't have my
- 18:41farm for sale or anything. Not moving. I'm staying. I like having
- 18:45my acreach and where we're at. We have five kids, just graduated,
- 18:49my last one. My baby is eighteen, my oldest is thirty five.
- 18:56And I've lived in West Virginia the most part. All my life's been about
- 19:00a year in Florida right after high school. But other than that, I
- 19:04was born and raised here in Charleston. Moved to Putnam County, like I
- 19:08said, twenty three years ago, and I'll never leave. I did think
- 19:14it was very interesting. And Kathy and I, you know, have known
- 19:17each other for a long time and we don't necessarily agree on everything. But
- 19:21I will say this, during the whole COVID thing, and there was all
- 19:26these debates back and forth and you and they're still and they're still going on
- 19:29to this day. But I always thought it was interesting when people would would
- 19:32say, well, you know, getting your information online, which a lot
- 19:34of people did, as you know, and a lot of it was erroneous
- 19:37on both sides, and so on and so forth. People would say,
- 19:40well, where's your degree in microbiology? You actually have a degree in microbody
- 19:45I do, and there was a reason Kathy hes Krauss did not wear a
- 19:48mask. That's you know, uh, and you were you were not a
- 19:52COVID denier, but but but you had a different view on it. I
- 19:57did. I did. I knew the mask were not doing what everybody said
- 20:03they were going to do. And the one thing I did know that the
- 20:07mask we're going to do was to make people sicker in the long run,
- 20:11and they had and they have. People were more susceptible to other illnesses because
- 20:18they hadn't had exposure to other viruses and the normal bacteria and viruses that you're
- 20:26exposed to every day, and immune systems went down. So the mask caused
- 20:32much more harm than good. And this just coming from a microbiologist. As
- 20:34you are, all right, what's the most rewarding part of serving your district
- 20:38for you? I love being able to help, no matter what it is,
- 20:45who it is. I love that if somebody has an issue and I'm
- 20:51able to either connect them with the right people or get things fixed so that
- 20:56it helps them. So one of my biggest I just love helping people.
- 21:02It's something I've always done. I love being active and out in the community,
- 21:07love advocating for the things I believe in, and I love being able
- 21:12to stand up and do that. What are some of those things you believe
- 21:15in? What are some of the core values if you will at Kathy hescrom
- 21:18the core values pro life above and beyond all all life. All babies deserve
- 21:25life, All life is worthy. Pro Second Amendment. I am pro jobs
- 21:30in West Virginia. I want I want people to want to stay here.
- 21:37We have a beautiful state. And like I said, I left for about
- 21:41a year and I'm so happy I came back. And I want people to
- 21:45have the jobs here that they can raise their families on. I want them
- 21:49to be able to stay. I want their kids to be able to stay.
- 21:52I want my kids to be able to stay, and the ones that
- 21:55have left the state, I want them to come home. So I am
- 21:59very pro jobs in West Virginia and bringing in businesses. And I'm pro less
- 22:04government and keeping money in people's pockets. Talk with Della. Get to Kathy
- 22:10Heskraus, who's candidate for reelection out of District nineteen Dave Island, showing five
- 22:14eighty. I brought to you apart by Pinnacle Consultants, the only accredited commercial
- 22:18lab in the state for asbestos and mold. As Bestos was bad in some

- 22:33vis a Pinnacle Court dot net. Because what you don't know can't hurt you.
- 22:36Explain District nineteen. What areas were talking about here? So District nineteen
- 22:40is it's the largest land district within Putnam County. All three of the main
- 22:45districts within Putnam have the same amount of voters population in them, but District
- 22:52nineteen has the largest land district. So I have everything on the north side
- 22:56of the river. And then if we come across Nitro Saint Albans Bridge and
- 23:00say we start about there, we go down to about Scary Creek, come
- 23:06up Scary Creek and Hendrick Road to the thirty five sixty four split, come
- 23:11down and follow sixty four when you hit Bill's Creek, you come down Bill's
- 23:15Creek, then over Blue Lick back down to eight seventeen, down to the
- 23:21Marina right before Winfield and then back up eight seventeen to the Nitro Saint albans
- 23:27Bridge area, So that's there's a little bump over there on the south side
- 23:30of the river, Partiscott Depot. What are you most proud of as far
- 23:36as your legislative career goes, some of the things that you've worked on that
- 23:38you're most proud of. The most proud vote that I made was my pro
- 23:48life vote. That was one. It's something I have stood for since I
- 23:53that I know of, since I was ten years old. I didn't know
- 23:56anything about abortion before that time, really, and it was about that age
- 24:00that I learned about it and I've been pro life ever since. And when
- 24:06I was able to save thousands of babies lives in West Virginia, that was
- 24:15the most proud moment I had. I knew that's what I was there for.
- 24:22Talk about your rise in politics, because you were somebody I mean,
- 24:26I don't know whether you were always interested in politics, but I mean you
- 24:30were somebody that you know, kind of kind of just years ago, just
- 24:34kind of not years ago, not a long time ago, but but but
- 24:37just kind of what it was, I mean, just kind of came out
- 24:41of out of nowhere for this rise in politics to be you know, one
- 24:44of the one of the legislators under the dome that is often quoted because you
- 24:49say quotable things from time to time. But but but let's talk about your
- 24:53riots in politics. Oh okay, let's see. Well, I've always been
- 24:57outspoken before I moved to Putnam County, I've always been one of the I
- 25:03was always one of those kids that knew what was writing and fought for it.
- 25:11But became a mom, stay at home mom, raising my kids,
- 25:17And probably the turning point to where I got even more involved was when my
- 25:26son there was an issue in his kindergarten class and I had audio taped that
- 25:33classroom, and because I couldn't get the principal or the school system to do
- 25:38anything, and it came out that the teacher and the aid were verbally abusing
- 25:42the children all day long, and I ended up pulling them out about a
- 25:48year later, finally gave up that the school wasn't going to do a school
- 25:52system wasn't going to do anything, pulled them out to homeschool, and through
- 25:56homeschooling, I started getting a little bit more involved. And then within that
- 26:03I got involved with West Virginia Citizens, the Fence League, and they were
- 26:07the ones that probably got me the most involved. We were at the Capitol.
- 26:12We were always lobbying for Second Amendment rights, making, trying to get
- 26:18constitutional carry past and everything. And the more I was down at the Capitol,
- 26:22the more I felt at home that that was where I needed to be
- 26:25and where I wanted to be. It was something I loved to do,
- 26:29and I continued staying more involved. I started lobbying for other issues, homeschooling,
- 26:34school choice, pro life, several things, just things that were close
- 26:40to my heart. Nothing I was getting paid for anything. I was still
- 26:42stay at home homeschooling mom. And the longer I was down there, the
- 26:48more I kept asking myself, why am I asking these yahoo's to do it
- 26:52and not doing it myself? Yahoo's Yahoo's even a very outspoken advocate, if
- 26:59you will, of a parental choice. Some have tried to paint you as
- 27:04somebody who's anti public school in my talking to you and having you on the
- 27:11show in the past. That's not the case. No, it's not.
- 27:14You're just more for parental choice. Correct. Parents should be able to choose
- 27:18what is best for their child. What is best for your child is different
- 27:25than what's best for my child. Even within a family, what's best for
- 27:29one child is different than what's best for another. And I think that parents
- 27:34should have the choices out there available for them to be able to choose on
- 27:41what makes that child successful academically and in life and will continue to love learning
- 27:48even after they get out of school. Because I'm sorry, you know,
- 27:52as well as I do, most of the things we learn in school we
- 27:56don't remember now. It's something that you continue to do throughout your whole life.
- 28:03And it's the things that you interest you and that you love that you
- 28:07are more likely to learn and take in all that information for. And it's
- 28:11something that we need to instill in kids the best way possible that they love
- 28:18to learn and learn how to love that. And that's what I want.
- 28:23I want kids to have that choice. I want parents to have that choice
- 28:27on what is best for their child and what works for them and what will
- 28:32make them a successful adult, productive members of society. How's the campaign been
- 28:40so for them? It's what are you hearing out it? When you're out

- 28:51was also there. So what overall has the campaign been. I think it's
- 28:55been going great. I get wonderful feedback, whether it's knocking doors or way
- 29:00being signs. You know, the occasional finger here and there, but you
- 29:04know it goes with the territory. I guess, well, they don't know
- 29:08about you. Is that you give it back? I'm kidding, I'm car.

- 34:20All right, so May the fourth, May the fourth tomorrow things going
- 34:22on all over the country literally, and the folks in the city of Hurricane
- 34:29have got some big events going on tomorrow. I originally had Amanda Smith Raimi
- 34:32from the City of Hurricane scheduled to be here. When some things came up,
- 34:36she could not be here. As far as we know, that event
- 34:37is still going on. I say that because there is rain in the forecast
- 34:40for tomorrow. I've got in for I got a little poster posted about my
- 34:45social media, So if you want any information about all the activities going on
- 34:47with May the fourth and Hurricane, you can go check out my social media
- 34:52for that. And again, I talked to Amanda earlier this morning. Unfortunately
- 34:54she could not be with us this morning. But they'll have information out there
- 35:00if it's postponed. Because Spencer and Brian and the folks tell me that there
- 35:04is rain in the forecast tomorrow, so it'll be posted if it's postponed.
- 35:07But as of right now, everything is continuing as scheduled. Coming up a
- 35:13little bit later on. Hoppy Kerchieval is doing the show talk line from the
- 35:16studio here and he is going to be joining us to talk about that a
- 35:21little bit later on. I'm just fun to have Hoppy on, as I
- 35:23guess also fun to have dealing to mcclamahan with us. How are you,
- 35:27Talor, good morning. I'm doing wonderful. How are you. I'm doing
- 35:30fine. Thanks for coming in being thrust it into the show. Jill Scarborough,
- 35:34man, she's hard cool. She put me on the spot. She
- 35:36put me on the spot for sure. I had Jill Risley scheduled and she
- 35:38said, you know, something happened and she wanted to send you. So
- 35:43he's a busy lady. I always love talking about cares, all right,
- 35:47talking about it all right. So first of all, give me your background,
- 35:52and because you've got a little bit more knowledge from what I understand talking
- 35:55to Jill than what the average person does on this subject of autism and things
- 35:59that nature. So so just kind of to just tell me about you.
- 36:01So I have three children, two of them have autism. One is just
- 36:07Aubrey. But so my oldest son with autism is just about to turn fourteen,
- 36:15and one is four, So I've gotten to experience this kind of decade
- 36:21long span of how the world is changing and growing to be more inclusive and
- 36:25accepting of children and individuals in general who have autism. And so when I
- 36:32had sorry, I'm popping all over the place, but fine, there was
- 36:37such a lack of resources. I felt like I was thrown into the ocean
- 36:42without a life raft. My husband and I joke that we accidentally subscribed to
- 36:47Parenting Plus because we had a lot of medical and educational things to navigate that
- 36:52we weren't prepared for. And that eventually led me to say, well,
- 36:58I want my career and what I do with my life to benefit families like
- 37:04mine, and so now I am a family support specialist and advocate for Cares.
- 37:09Now, a lot of parents in your particular situation could just take care
- 37:15of your own, Just take care of your family, get them raised,
- 37:17and do the things that you have to do, which would be completely understandable,
- 37:21but you wanted to take it to a different level because you, as
- 37:23you said, you wanted to help other families to talk about that. Yes,
- 37:28absolutely, West Virginia is a what we call a service desert. There's
- 37:34not on a national scale, we just are detrimental to our families when it
- 37:40comes to support our education systems. We have lovely, beautiful, wonderful teachers
- 37:47and para professionals, However, systematically they still struggle with having their own tools
- 37:55to help support families. Same goes with the number one recommended treatment not cure.
- 38:02Autism is not curable, and I do want to make that very clear.
- 38:07But treatment making someone's life navigating the world with autism easier is ABA applied
- 38:13behavioral analysis. However, in West Virginia, four percent of children with autism
- 38:20have realistic access to ABA, leaving the other ninety six percent floundering. I
- 38:25love West Virginia. This is my community. I've lived here my whole life,
- 38:30and while I never really had the financial privilege to be able to move
- 38:35out of state, I wouldn't want to anyway. I want my home and
- 38:38my culture to be enjoyed by families just like mine who live with autism,
- 38:44and so I take a lot of pride in being able to talk to parents
- 38:50one on one and say I get how you're feeling. I understand so much
- 38:54of your experience, and you're not alone, and let's walk through this together.
- 39:00Talk about the way that society views children and adults with autism and how
- 39:07it's changed over the years. Oh, it's again. What I really love
- 39:13is that I have this kind of anecdotal experience of having children with autism ten
- 39:17years apart. So when one example is when I was trying to get my
- 39:23oldest son, Reese, just the diagnosis, figuring out, why isn't my
- 39:29baby talking yet, Why doesn't my baby seem to respond to his name,
- 39:34Why do socks seem to hurt my baby's feet? You know, really,
- 39:37I was trying to get really practical answers, and the answer was your child
- 39:42has autism. But what I got instead was a pediatrician telling me, well,
- 39:47do you think you giving him apple juice? Is just giving him too
- 39:51much sugar and he's acting a little different. And when I got my son
- 39:57his autism diagnosis, finally, the only on further instructions I was given,
- 40:02I was told, your child has autism, and then I was told,
- 40:05here's where you pay for parking, so just I can flame. I don't
- 40:09mean to laugh at that, but I mean, it's just kind of that
- 40:13it's so absurd, it is funny, right, It's I definitely find humor
- 40:16in the absurdity. And so it was. It was a fight I had
- 40:22to and a big part of what led me to be this as a professional
- 40:25is I had to learn, Okay, how what are my child's educational rights
- 40:31in school? What are my child's medical rights? What kind of therapies do
- 40:37I have realistic access to? It was, it was hard. It was
- 40:42a constant battle, and I was so angry at the way the system was
- 40:46making me kind of swim up current all the time that I did say I
- 40:52I don't want this to happen to my peers and families. I don't want
- 40:54it to be like this. And so a little bit before I had my
- 41:02third child, who's my second son with autism, I discovered CARES, Community
- 41:07Autism Resources and education systems. I was actually setting in a social work class
- 41:14and Jill Scarborough, who has me speaking here today, came to our class
- 41:17to discuss potential volunteers or internship opportunities for CARES, and she's described CARES.
- 41:29When she was describing CARES, she was describing my family. Many families in
- 41:32West Virginia are either socially excluded, meaning you get a lot of stares,
- 41:38you get a lot of unwanted comments. You get a lot of social perceptions
- 41:43that you, as a parent are doing something wrong simply by having a child
- 41:46with a disability, and that makes you want to stay inside, and that
- 41:51leads to self isolation where you choose I will stay in this bubble I call
- 41:55home because the world is too cruel, and CARES was a bubble out in
- 42:01this world I perceived as so cruel, where I was seeing so many children
- 42:09like my son that might need a little bit of extra help in understanding what
- 42:15he's communicating, or he might have some behaviors that appear odd but are certainly
- 42:20not harmful, and those can be looked past to see a joyful child.
- 42:24And I just fell in love. We have not missed a monthly CARES event
- 42:30since and that was years ago. And we get some events going on like
- 42:34tomorrow, right, yes, yes, all right, let's hit that before
- 42:37we let you go. So tomorrow is our awesome family fun day. It
- 42:42is all about celebrating that we belong in public spaces. We deserve for our
- 42:49families to have family experiences, for our children to have childhoods. It's I
- 42:55think we're well passed autism awareness. We're aware autism out there, but now
- 43:01it's about autism inclusion and acceptance. So our awesome family Fun day tomorrow is
- 43:07a perfect, perfect example. Or it's going to be held at Valley Park.
- 43:12It is a hurricane. Yeah, in hurricane it is a rain or
- 43:14shine event. So we've got some fun planned in the conference center. If
- 43:17we do get those thunderstorms we're talking about, we're not going to let it
- 43:22rain on our parade. Yes, and what time does the start it?
- 43:24We kick off at twelve and the event goes until three. Let me I
- 43:29have a question here for you. Somebody want to be able to ask you
- 43:30before we let you go. According to your guest or, can you ask
- 43:34her? What percentage of kids are born with autism? So that is constantly
- 43:38changing. I believe, I hate I don't have that percentage right now.
- 43:44It's something around one in eighty eight. There is a higher prevalency in boys,
- 43:50but that may be because it's a little bit just harder to catch on
- 43:52girls. Can I go ahead and share the CARES resource number? Wait?
- 43:57Please do go ahead, So if families would like to text or call three
- 44:01oh four nine three five four one oh. I am so happy to help
- 44:07families navigate information and things they'd like to learn about autism. Tata McLanahan Cares

- 47:45me some provocative question, I'll start to get tongue tied about it. So
- 47:49in fact, I had Mike Stewart on the other day, you know,
- 47:52of course, candidate for attorney general, and he he was very animated.
- 47:55He started turning in around on me and asking me questions. He's good,
- 48:00yeah, and I said, come on, Mike, let me do that.
- 48:01Let me do the questioning here. He's done the same thing to me.
- 48:05We love you, Mike. All right, you're in town because the
- 48:08three guys before the game, you're going to be doing some sort of a
- 48:12taping day. There's an event. I don't think they're taping up, and
- 48:15there's events with the boy I should know where we're going. Tony works all
- 48:19these things out. It's with the CPA CPAs. Yes, yeah, it's
- 48:24it's what the CPA organizations. You know more about it than I do.
- 48:28You should show up. I saw it on the Twitter's on Twitter. That's
- 48:31fat. Yeah, with the CPAs today. So Brandon Tony are coming down.
- 48:34So we're going to do an event over there today. But also I'll
- 48:37do my show here live in your studios today. Talk about the popularity of
- 48:39three guys. You know, three guys is become a kind of a phenomenon,
- 48:45and I guess it's because it's three guys that are pretty recognizable in the
- 48:51state talking about sports, particularly WVU sports, and having fun doing it.
- 48:55And what we the feedback we get is that people enjoy like, hey,
- 48:59this is fun. You got are having a good time, You're busting on
- 49:00each other, and it's everybody's sort of in on the joke. So it's
- 49:05just it's a fun thing to do. And sometimes we're serious about real information.
- 49:07Sometimes we're just goofing on each other. So it's a it's a fun
- 49:10thing we have a good time doing. I think if we're having a good
- 49:13time doing it, then people listening have fun with it. And how many
- 49:15episodes now, oh, gosh, five something five or something five hundred and
- 49:21some Did you think it would be this big when you started? No,
- 49:24but sure of anything we do it is business, right, But you know
- 49:27the key is and there are a lot of podcasts, you know what the
- 49:30key is is consistency is to keep doing it. I say that even though
- 49:32I'm not there some of the time, but the key is consisting. A
- 49:35lot of people start podcasts with great enthusiasm and it's like, well, I'm
- 49:37not going to do one this week, right, but you got to be
- 49:40there. You got to keep doing it. And so we do two a
- 49:43week during seasons football and basketball. There in the summer, maybe it slows
- 49:46down to one or two a week, but we're always uh but it's always
- 49:50going to be there, And I think that's a big thing. What's coming
- 49:52up on talk line today West Virginia Poles can be West Virginia Poul the Metro
- 49:55News West Virginia pol We're going to release a ten oh six on the race
- 49:58for the Republican Omation governor. We have new numbers on that, and it's
- 50:01going to be I'll just say this, I don't want to blow the lead
- 50:05here. It's going to be provocative, provocative. It's going to be provocative,
- 50:09and there's going to be a lot of discussion about it. Our poster
- 50:13rex Repass is going to be on and I think but I can tell you
- 50:16this, Dave, what's going to show without giving you the specific numbers still
- 50:21ten oh six. It will and a story will be posted by Brad mackliny
- 50:23at wv metronews dot com. What it will show is what you've been talking
- 50:27about in your show. This is a close race. This is a close
- 50:30race. You've talked to the candidates, you've covered this race. It's close.
- 50:34And I don't think any of the candidates can say, oh, I
- 50:37got this thing wrapped up. You know it's and and there's still some movement
- 50:39that can and will occur between now and the fourteenth. So that's what I
- 50:45think that that poll. People will focus in on the specific numbers, but
- 50:49the bottom line will be, Hey, this thing could go any number of
- 50:53directions. I got a text for you, okay, for Hoppy. Do
- 50:58you know where to find the highlights the video of Pat why to Pat mcavee
- 51:01played at the spring game. Would love to see it. I don't.
- 51:07We're working on it. Effort, all right, efforting. Let me ask
- 51:09you before we go. Yeah, I brought this up on the show I
- 51:12saw. I've been doing the show for four years, been radio for a
- 51:14long long time. Are you surprised at the amount? And I love my
- 51:19listeners, don't give me long and I listen to your show every day,
- 51:21But are you surprised at the amount of for lack of a better term,
- 51:24venom that's out there, and how people just can't seem to agree to disagree
- 51:29anymore. There's a lot of venom out there, and I think it's reflective.
- 51:31It's not just here. I think it's reflective of the culture. I
- 51:34think there's been a coartioning of the culture. But I also think that for
- 51:37the for the angst and anger and venom that is out there. I think
- 51:43there is a large crowd of folks that just aren't doing that right, you
- 51:47know that just are listening to you and maybe they won't participate and just are
- 51:52going about their daily lives and they're really not into the anger thing. But
- 51:54there's no question and you know this, there is a lot of anger out
- 51:58there, no question about it. It on Steam release. That's okay,
- 52:02gotta have again, Dave, you know that, all right, I'll be
- 52:06couracs. I don't coming up in a matter of Moment's talk about at ten
- 52:08o six. Thank you, sir, Thank you, You're always welcome here.
