- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O Take
- 0:17presented by Sea Kick this episode 468.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Corn. I'm here with my Co host and
- 0:22Nader is. Nate home again.
- 0:28Home again. Jiggity jig.
- 0:33Yeah, boy. Boy, feels good to be home.
- 0:36Sure does. Give me in my comfy chair.
- 0:40Give me in my smelly good office.
- 0:43Yeah, I. Like when I can be a little
- 0:46little louder, I I didn't feel like I had I didn't.
- 0:49Feel. I didn't feel right.
- 0:51I didn't feel good. I didn't feel myself.
- 0:53I heard, I hear like hotel doors closing in the background and
- 0:58yeah, some loud lady with heels, you know, staying above me in in
- 1:02that room. It's like I I don't know, man.
- 1:05It just was it didn't hit right. So I apologize if I didn't come
- 1:09off as normal NATO. You know what I mean it.
- 1:13Was tough for me last week. I, I mean, you know, the, the
- 1:16room next door, they're, they're putting down my nephew for, for
- 1:20bed and just taking naps and family hanging out in the living
- 1:25room downstairs. But it's all good.
- 1:26It's all good. We're back.
- 1:28We're here. Love being with family, but love
- 1:30being back in my elements. So we are, we are here.
- 1:33We're here to talk some ball. Back in your bed.
- 1:36True. So that's the other thing.
- 1:37We just bought a new bed yesterday.
- 1:40That's a big purchase. New bed.
- 1:41New bed set gets here next week. Laid on this puppy in the store.
- 1:47I've never bought any mattress before.
- 1:48Hold on, hold on. Where did you buy this from?
- 1:52No free. No free ads.
- 1:54OK. Have you heard about this whole
- 1:56Mattress Firm conspiracy? You know, I love a good
- 1:59conspiracy. How there's nobody ever in
- 2:02Mattress Firm and there's one on every street corner.
- 2:06How do they say in business? For sure, Lonnie money
- 2:10launderer, for sure. Got to be got to be something
- 2:13with the mob. I don't know.
- 2:15Maybe save that for for a different kind of episode, you
- 2:21know what I mean? But yeah, very true.
- 2:23We did not go there. Very uncomfortable.
- 2:25I don't like, I don't like pushy salesman while I'm trying to
- 2:29figure out if this is comfortable for me and my lady,
- 2:33you know what I mean? So, but yeah, what's the living
- 2:36spaces in places? Just huge, man.
- 2:39Do they have living spaces out there?
- 2:41They got that going out there. I can't say I've ever seen that.
- 2:46They're legit dude. I'm sick.
- 2:47Yeah, but any who's new bed new me.
- 2:55Hey, we got some breaking news right off the top here.
- 2:57Friend of the program Bobby Witt Junior just notched his 200th
- 3:05hit of the season. Shout out AJ in the chat for
- 3:10that update. You know, Speaking of Bobby
- 3:14Witt, it's big time. Perfect segue.
- 3:18Yeah, get it. Get it out there, pal.
- 3:20Get it? Out it's got to.
- 3:22Feel good. Hey man, hey, it feels good to
- 3:25be you know how long I've been wanting to put fantasy baseball
- 3:29champion in my bio and am IA loser for doing it literally
- 3:32moments after it became official?
- 3:34Probably. But you know, I've been working.
- 3:36I've been working for years, years I've been working at this
- 3:41to become a fantasy baseball champion.
- 3:44Lot of man hours. Too many man hours, you know a.
- 3:47Lot of legs going to sleep on the toilet you.
- 3:49Know oh man, losing sleep. I mean, you don't know how many
- 3:53nights I would have to set my roster at night because like
- 3:57like one in the morning because that was the only time a day I
- 4:00could do it. But it feels good.
- 4:03I tell you what though, I was sweating yesterday, man.
- 4:07He came down to the final day in our two week long championship
- 4:11match up and I'd tell you what Meredith wanted me to mention.
- 4:15By the way, she was like be sure to mention how how nervous you
- 4:20were and how frequently you were updating me on all of the
- 4:24scenarios that gets she. Needs to know.
- 4:25She needs to know. If you've played fantasy
- 4:28baseball before, you know that like a lot of times when you
- 4:32think the worst could happen, it ends up happening in that way
- 4:35where you're like, OK, I'm up 30 points.
- 4:38The only way I lose this match up is if every one of my
- 4:41remaining hitter strikes out and his pitcher throws like a no
- 4:45hitter and it ends up happening exactly that way.
- 4:48So I was not, I was not happy until it was official.
- 4:52And when it finally became official, I just, I just basked
- 4:57in the glory. I, I updated my bio fantasy
- 5:00baseball champion. I'm, I'm trying to figure out,
- 5:03do I I got to figure out my ring size for the the ring that
- 5:08that's going to be be in order. What finger you're going?
- 5:11What finger do you think? You know, I, I don't win.
- 5:15I don't win a whole lot. I think it's.
- 5:17Cold if you go pinky I. Got the cold go pinky, yeah?
- 5:20That's a cold. Move do I go pinky I.
- 5:24That's a, that's a mobster move, you know what I mean?
- 5:27That's like a you You're in Goodfellas.
- 5:28Little bit of kiss the ring action going on.
- 5:31You know, I the, the whole, the whole champion, the mindset is,
- 5:36is somewhat new to me. And Meredith laughs at me when I
- 5:38say that, 'cause she's like, you win like board games, you win
- 5:41like we do, like Mario Kart with the family, like no, no, no.
- 5:43No, this is like 8. Months.
- 5:46Yeah, this is, this has been years in the making, it feels
- 5:50like. But I like, I'm never that
- 5:52person who wins bingo. I'm never that person that wins
- 5:555050 raffles or or any raffles for that matter.
- 5:58Stuff that doesn't matter and we'll talk about a bet that you
- 6:01lost earlier so. No, we don't need to talk about
- 6:03that. No, we don't need to talk about
- 6:04that. But it, it just feels good
- 6:07though. And, and honestly, I'm I'm glad
- 6:10I could do it. And it's it's been an honor and
- 6:14a privilege to be a part of this league.
- 6:18I think it's tough when like because you're the commish, you
- 6:20know what I mean? And commissioners like rarely
- 6:23win it. It feels like the commissioners
- 6:26probably put in the most man hours and rarely get the dub so.
- 6:31Rarely get the glory, hey? And if people want to say this
- 6:34is rigged, you can ask Nate. This is my first.
- 6:37We've done this week for however many years.
- 6:40This is my first time doing it. It's true.
- 6:43First time winning the whole thing and boy does it feel good.
- 6:46You won that thing. That's for those curious.
- 6:49I got third. I am.
- 6:51I got second last year. I am trending in the wrong
- 6:53direction. You kicked my teeth in.
- 6:57Yeah, that was that was ugly. We already talked about that
- 7:00though. We don't need to talk more about
- 7:01it. My team.
- 7:01Pooped down their leg. But no, that segue I was talking
- 7:05about that with Bobby Witt. I I'm still deciding on if I
- 7:08want to make my my my prize that that Bobby Witt powder blue
- 7:13jersey I've. I'm going to normalize calling
- 7:14him. I'm going to normalize calling
- 7:16him Junior. Junior.
- 7:17He's the new junior. You did.
- 7:19You texted me that the other day.
- 7:20I I was like. Let's do it.
- 7:23I'm a little concerned that my mind immediately didn't go to
- 7:26Cal. I was like, whoa, this is
- 7:28because it's new time calling Bobby Witt.
- 7:30Junior's already starting to sound a little a little too
- 7:34normal. It's time we've now moved in
- 7:37that direction. It's he's our generation.
- 7:38He's earned it. 24200 hits is a big deal, man.
- 7:41That's a great, great, great season.
- 7:47MVBMVP caliber season. He's probably going to get some
- 7:50votes. I do think Judge still MVB.
- 7:52Most valuable Bobby. Most valuable Bobby does does
- 7:55sound decent, but yeah, I mean the powder blue that'd be a good
- 7:59look if you can get like a customized patch on the side or
- 8:04if you know, like maybe you wait it out and Tono's the Royals
- 8:08sneak out a trophy season this year and then you can get the
- 8:12gold. You can get the gold around and
- 8:15it's a gold championship for you and a gold championship for them
- 8:19that could. Be beautiful, I mean.
- 8:21Not to mention I mean this. This man was my highest point
- 8:24getter this year. So I mean it would only be.
- 8:27Fitting. Don't remind me.
- 8:28Don't remind. Me.
- 8:28Yeah, It got him from you. Thank you for that, by the way.
- 8:33No, but speaking about a team that could maybe sneak out a
- 8:37World Series title, let's talk about scary post season
- 8:44contenders right now. Who is moving the needle for
- 8:47you? And when I say I, I had I texted
- 8:49you originally and I said, let's let's do a little bit of power
- 8:52ranking. And I know that there's a lot
- 8:54of, there's a lot of misunderstanding, but when it
- 9:00comes to power ranking, it's because I see these get
- 9:02volatile. Oh my goodness, it's, I mean,
- 9:05it's total rage bait. And that's not what we're going
- 9:07for here. But it was it, it was just sort
- 9:10of a, for lack of a better term, kind of situation.
- 9:13Well, we could just call it ranking if you want, But I, I, I
- 9:16went specifically with power ranking because I wanted, I
- 9:19wanted it to be based off of right now, like what, what your
- 9:22gut is telling you, who are the teams?
- 9:25And, and we can kind of craft like maybe a top five list, I
- 9:29think is what I had in mind. Sure.
- 9:31The teams according to your gut and your gut only.
- 9:36Well, my gut as well. We're going to make a little
- 9:38joint list here of of teams that you absolutely would not want to
- 9:44play right now should you, your team match up with them in the
- 9:50postseason. Based on the way things are
- 9:52happening right now, based on the way maybe they've turned
- 9:56things turned around as of late, There's a there's a lot, there's
- 10:00a lot that could go into this discussion.
- 10:02A lot they could go into this into these calculations and a
- 10:06lot that could go into crafting this list.
- 10:08I've I've got some teams in mind, but I wanted to maybe like
- 10:12we used to do back in the old days when we were, we were
- 10:15talking about it before we hopped on back when we used to
- 10:17make our pre season position rankings.
- 10:21We would, we would, we would. Do you want to talk about
- 10:24volatile? My goodness.
- 10:25Nightmares about those. Yeah, we literally the people
- 10:29got so, so up in our face about it.
- 10:32We literally stopped doing it. Like that was one of the I'd.
- 10:35Like to see a power ranking that had positive positive comments.
- 10:39I don't think it exists anymore. I I really enjoyed creating
- 10:42those those it was a lot. Of fun.
- 10:46It was a lot of fun you. Learned a lot.
- 10:48Deep diving into that stuff, yeah.
- 10:50You learned a lot and it you, I mean, you want to talk fantasy
- 10:52baseball, it really put you in the right state of mind for
- 10:54fantasy baseball, 'cause you're going, OK, I, I might know a, a
- 10:57thing or two extra about this particular guy that I could
- 11:00utilize this season. No, but yeah, similar in that
- 11:05way though like we did with those positional rankings back
- 11:08in the day. I thought it would be fun to
- 11:09craft a list, a joint list so that we could maybe hear the
- 11:15other out on maybe why a certain team should be in there.
- 11:18And we can we can arrive hopefully at the same conclusion
- 11:23on on maybe these top five or so teams that we think are imposing
- 11:29the biggest threats. Are we doing ALNL?
- 11:33Are we doing all? It's it's free ball right now.
- 11:37It is free ball. Free ball.
- 11:41It's it's free time, it's recess, it's whatever you want
- 11:44to make of it. OK, that's fair.
- 11:48Where where you want to start? You want to start at the bottom.
- 11:51Let's just let's get the teams out, let let's spitball some
- 11:55teams here and then we can maybe we can maybe arrange them as
- 11:59such. Tell me where you want to start,
- 12:01pal. All right.
- 12:02A team that I have on my list and it's probably the more
- 12:06obvious team on my list based on the way that we've talked about
- 12:11them all season long. And I would venture to say he's
- 12:14probably on your hypothetical list, the Houston Astros.
- 12:24Yeah, man, look like it's been like 20 straight years that
- 12:30they've made it to the ALCS. Just kidding. 7 Is it seven this
- 12:34year? They've made it.
- 12:35They've made it to 20 of the last 15 ALCSS.
- 12:42That's how that's how dominant this this postseason run or
- 12:46streak of runs has been for the Houston Astros.
- 12:48And that's that is why I have them on my scariest contenders
- 12:53list because you know what they're going to bring to the
- 12:54table. You know, offensively, they're
- 12:57going to bop. As of since September 1st, they
- 13:01have a 772 OPS, which is fifth best in baseball right now.
- 13:05And they're really not it like, yeah, they they stormed back,
- 13:08but I I don't believe that they're playing their best ball
- 13:11right now. Yeah, they're they're pitching
- 13:13could use a little bit of work It.
- 13:15I mean, it's they they've they've kept things afloat.
- 13:18But in terms of in terms of right now looking ahead to the
- 13:23postseason, this team, you just know that they're going to be
- 13:27there. You know they're going to be a
- 13:28part of the mix and you know that they're not going to go out
- 13:31quietly if they do go out in in fact.
- 13:34They're so experienced. They got so many guys that have
- 13:37just been around the block that have been in this situation.
- 13:40I mean, shoot, they were without Kyle Tucker for what, 2-3
- 13:43months? They they signed Jay Hay and
- 13:49Jason Hayward's now now hitting tanks and getting multi hit
- 13:53games like. There's a we did we not talk
- 13:58about like that. Just the most predictable thing.
- 14:00It's the same thing with the Dodgers.
- 14:02The Dodgers will just pick Tommy Edmond.
- 14:04I mean, no knock on his Cardinals days.
- 14:06He was he was a heck of a ball player in Saint Louis.
- 14:08But like go figure, just picks right back up where he left off
- 14:12the. Yeah, immediately, like, no, no,
- 14:16behind the curve at all. I heard this comparison, by the
- 14:19way, like quick, quick note, I heard a comparison of like when
- 14:22a guy comes off the IL for if it's like a 60 day, it's like a
- 14:26treadmill being on full speed and you're like trying to hop on
- 14:30and and keep and stay on it. And I think that was a great
- 14:33comparison. And that's like so many guys
- 14:36fail at and you're watching Tommy Edmond do his thing.
- 14:38It's annoying, but that's what the Dodgers do.
- 14:41But anyway, yeah, I mean, I, I, I think you just, you look at
- 14:44the, you look at the Houston Astros, they've been there,
- 14:45they've done that. They know what it takes.
- 14:48They have this core in the clubhouse that just is very
- 14:51calm, cool, collected it. Just we talked about it for
- 14:56months now. Like even after the slow start,
- 14:58they're still they are who they are.
- 15:02You say Kikuchi has come over from Toronto and just been
- 15:06lights out, man. Blanco has been himself.
- 15:10Like, yeah, Verlander's definitely got some question
- 15:12marks around him. But like you got to assume if if
- 15:17you know 4 1/2 game leading the division, I'm going to go ahead
- 15:20and assume the division is theirs.
- 15:22Give Verlander a little bit of time.
- 15:24Doesn't even have to be game one starter.
- 15:27I think you're going to get I think you're going to get
- 15:30Verlander type stuff. I don't think he's going to
- 15:34implode in the postseason the way he's done in the last few
- 15:36starts. So it's just a lineup that knows
- 15:39what they're doing that they know how to bang.
- 15:43Alex Bregman is is, you know, at this point on display for
- 15:47contracts discussions this offseason like your Don does
- 15:52what your Don does, Kyle Tucker. I mean, it's just like go the
- 15:56list is just it's a it's ridiculous, man.
- 16:00Then you always have that one guy that for them that just
- 16:03manages to shine in the postseason that maybe had
- 16:07somewhat of a lackluster regular season.
- 16:09So yeah, they have to be in that conversation because they're
- 16:12always in that conversation, because even when you hate them,
- 16:15even when you doubt them, they still end up with the inevitable
- 16:19appearance in the ALCS. So it's like it's coming, you
- 16:24know? Buckle up.
- 16:26Well, you're talking about the division.
- 16:29Let's keep it in the West. A team that I don't necessarily
- 16:33think is going to win the division at this stage, but has
- 16:36stormed, dare we say, back into the the playoff picture.
- 16:43Like, I mean, they, I mean, they were obviously there for an
- 16:46extended period of time. They were all, they were sitting
- 16:48pretty fell out. I mean, can we say they're like
- 16:53right there back in the thick of it?
- 16:56They're entering today, Monday. They're 2 1/2 out, tied with the
- 17:02Tigers. I got them for two out.
- 17:05Well, that's entering today, so they.
- 17:07Entering today, After today, they're two out.
- 17:09Yeah, fair. Oh right, 'cause they did, they
- 17:11had. Today was the Rosa Arena game,
- 17:14the home run I saw. So they won that game.
- 17:20Yeah, they beat up the Rangers 7.
- 17:22Nothing. But I'm Nate.
- 17:27What have we been saying? What have we been saying about
- 17:30the Mariners? The pitching, we, we got it.
- 17:33The pitching covered hit a little bit since September 1st.
- 17:38Hear me out, 'cause people probably heard the Mariners when
- 17:41I, when I said possibly on on our list here of scariest
- 17:45playoff contenders, they got Mariners.
- 17:46Come on, what are we, what are we really doing here?
- 17:49To your point, just hit a little bit since the start of the
- 17:52month. They have an 8040 PS, which is
- 17:56second best in all of baseball. They always say it's not how
- 18:00about it's not about how you start, it's about how you
- 18:02finish. And I tell you what, if this is
- 18:04the Mariners getting hot, like they're going to make even us
- 18:06look stupid. Because I think I think whether
- 18:09mentally or even on this on this podcast, we kind of wrote them
- 18:13off, but they said, hold on. We still got a little bit left
- 18:16in the tank offensively. You know what you're going to
- 18:19get on the mound. But by the way, we we do
- 18:22actually have a little pop. So I'm not, I'm not too excited
- 18:29to play the Mariners at this particular point if I'm fill in
- 18:33the blank team. I mean, dude, like I don't want
- 18:39to mess with them if they can hit at all at all and get in
- 18:45this rotation. I think when you compare
- 18:48rotations across the board is up there of one of the best, if not
- 18:53the best when you have Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryce
- 18:57Miller, Logan Gilbert, like Brian, what are we?
- 19:01What are we? Doing how like?
- 19:05I don't know if there's enough rotation depth across the league
- 19:10compared to this. I mean, this is super
- 19:13impressive. There.
- 19:14No, there is not. I don't care.
- 19:16What I'm saying? There's not a rotation that's
- 19:18deeper than what the Mariners are bringing to the table in All
- 19:21in all of baseball. And you don't really need 5 in
- 19:23the postseason, you know what I mean?
- 19:24Like Brian Wu is probably going to get a start or two, but for
- 19:29the most part I'll take that top four against any top 4.
- 19:34Brian Wu is sporting A238 right now with the whip of .82.
- 19:40Unbelievable. As a back end guy, come on
- 19:45Mariners, I'm glad you're here. I'm glad the offense finally
- 19:49woke up. I mean, you got 190 at this
- 19:52point, 191 innings out of Logan Gilbert, 179 out of George
- 19:56Kirby, 175 out of Luis Castillo, 167 out of Bryce Miller.
- 20:02Come on, like very realistically, when it's all
- 20:07said and done, have four guys over 180 innings.
- 20:11That's not normal, not today. So Bach all you want for anybody
- 20:19that's, you know, maybe an Lal W fan, maybe kind of written off
- 20:23the Mariners in their mind, Bach all you want, But I wouldn't
- 20:29want to see that rotation in the postseason.
- 20:32I would want nothing to do with that rotation in A5 game set or
- 20:39A7 game set. It's just got it.
- 20:42It just comes down to hitting. They just got to hit a little
- 20:44bit. Well, that's a perfect segue
- 20:47into the next team I have on the list because I I know I might
- 20:51sound like I'm contradicting myself here with the whole like
- 20:54power rankings like at this very moment, but I think this
- 20:58particular team built up so much it enough momentum to this point
- 21:07to where, even though they've slid in certain facets of the
- 21:11game since call it the start of the month, I'm I'm giving them a
- 21:16I'm giving them a pass in that regard, and I'm still putting
- 21:18them on my list of scariest contenders that I would not want
- 21:21to face right now. And that's the Arizona
- 21:23Diamondbacks offensively top team in baseball since the start
- 21:27of the month. OPS of 865 which ranks first in
- 21:30all of baseball. However, however, since the
- 21:36start of the month I'll give you a guess at what their team ERA
- 21:40is since since I'm September 1st.
- 21:44I'm going to go team ERA of a 4/6. 642 since September 1st,
- 21:54which believe it or not, believe it or not, I know it's hard.
- 22:00It's really hard to wrap your head around Last in baseball.
- 22:03So you're currently since the beginning of the month, you are
- 22:08on complete opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to what
- 22:12you're doing on the mound and what you're doing on the plate.
- 22:14And that that's not sustainable. That's not going to get it done
- 22:17in the postseason. But I would like to think I I
- 22:21would venture to say that the Diamondbacks are going to be
- 22:23able to figure it out on the mound because they've had
- 22:26success on the mound before, especially this season and and
- 22:30building off of what they were able to do last year, I think in
- 22:33that regard. But offensively, they've proved
- 22:35proven that they're the real deal.
- 22:37And Corbin Carroll, as we've mentioned, is get is on on fire
- 22:42right now. So if you get, if you get him
- 22:44going, if you get him leading the charge in in whatever facet
- 22:47you want to look at, whether it just be getting on base or
- 22:51driving in runs, making things happen, things happen on the
- 22:54base pass or all the above, you're in a, you're in a pretty
- 22:57good shape. You just got to figure out the
- 22:59pitching. Yeah, dude.
- 23:01And that's that's what makes me feel like they're they're not so
- 23:05much like I have teams in the back of my head that are like
- 23:09who the Diamondbacks of last year.
- 23:12And the reason you're able to use that as like a title, as
- 23:15like a phrase is because I think the Diamondbacks are definitely
- 23:18on everyone's radar. They're not necessarily sneaking
- 23:22in and and overlooked like everyone knows what they can do
- 23:26offensively. But last year you had you had a
- 23:29Zach Gallon who was who was in Cy Young contention, right?
- 23:32Did he? Who won the Cy Young last year?
- 23:34No, he was in contention. That was.
- 23:36That was my Cy Young pick last year I believe.
- 23:39I don't think he pulled it out. Who won that?
- 23:43Why am I going crazy here? What are we doing?
- 23:48It wasn't Logan Webb, was it? What are we doing, guy?
- 23:55What's going on? Why am I drawing a blank here?
- 23:57Blake Snell? Oh, duh.
- 23:58Yeah, of course, Blake. Snell with the pods.
- 24:01Idiots. He's like an idiot.
- 24:03Threw me for a loop. But that's The thing is that
- 24:07like when you had that offense paired, and I know it's a new
- 24:10team, like you can't compare apples to apples here, but you
- 24:14kind of can. It's the same team, but Zach
- 24:17Allen is not being Zach Allen. Isn't the phrase apples to
- 24:20oranges? Yeah, Well, yeah, sure.
- 24:23I mean, it's not, that's what I'm saying.
- 24:24It's not apples to apples because it's a little, it's a
- 24:27little different. It's New Year's couple names
- 24:31that are different, right. You got a Jordan Montgomery
- 24:33who's not doing. It Oh, no, no, I hear you.
- 24:35I just, you know, I just want to make sure I wasn't losing my
- 24:37mind. Yeah.
- 24:39I mean, I just like in Merrill Kelly, you know, obviously was
- 24:42was great last year as well. It's just like there's certain
- 24:45things that I feel like aren't clicking the same way
- 24:47specifically on that side of the wall.
- 24:49So I like what they can do. I think if you're a team in the
- 24:56NL that's maybe stumbling to the finish line that maybe doesn't
- 25:01have a ton of pitching depth, that's probably not a great
- 25:05matchup. I could see them getting
- 25:10through, you know, the first round, maybe get to the NLCS,
- 25:14but I just at some point pitching has to be the name of
- 25:20the game and and it just doesn't feel like the Diamondbacks have
- 25:23that this year. Still a scary team though.
- 25:28The, the, the thing last thing I'll say before we move on to
- 25:31our next team, the last thing I'll say about the D backs, I
- 25:34think the thing that they have working in their favor is the
- 25:37guys that they need to turn it around on the bump are guys that
- 25:42have shown you success before. You're not at, you're not
- 25:45necessarily, and I'm not saying across the board, but a majority
- 25:49of the, the handful of names that are, are, are struggling
- 25:53are guys that have shown you they can do it and have done it
- 25:57before. You're not asking guys who have
- 26:00never done it before to do something they've never done.
- 26:04You're, you're not in a situation like the Dodgers, for
- 26:06example, where your rotation, your staff has just been blown
- 26:10up. There's nothing doesn't resemble
- 26:12hardly anything that that it was supposed to.
- 26:15I, I mean, you sure you've had guys fill back in and, and, and
- 26:19get healthy, but like you, you just need guys to, to figure it
- 26:23out before the calendar turns. And like I said, if you can just
- 26:27figure out that side of the ball, the offensive side of
- 26:29things, you've proven that you're the real deal and that
- 26:33that's not, that doesn't need to be a concern at this point.
- 26:37Yeah. And on the pitching side of
- 26:39things, when we were talking about how the Mariners pitching
- 26:43as far as innings logged, this is the exact opposite.
- 26:46You might not have one guy crack 180 innings on this on this
- 26:51depth chart. So that's tough.
- 26:52That's tough to see many who's. Talking about a team that's a
- 26:58little more even keel when it comes to where they fall in
- 27:03league wide rankings on both sides of the ball, The Padres.
- 27:06The Padres isn't. They're not a team that I want
- 27:09to mess with at this point in time.
- 27:11They are sporting a 739 OPS since September 1st, which is
- 27:147th best in baseball and on the bump they are rocking a 281
- 27:20which is 6th best in 6th best in baseball.
- 27:22So less reason, less cause for concern if you're the Padres.
- 27:29And it makes sense because the Padres, we've talked about it,
- 27:32Padres been playing excellent as of late and that they have been
- 27:41more in the thick of it for a longer stretch than a team.
- 27:45Like we just talked about, like the Mariners and the Mariners
- 27:47fell out. And like I said, people had
- 27:50written them off. But the Padres have, they kind
- 27:52of showed up and they've just been hanging around.
- 27:54Yeah, so Padres, I mean, they're they're going to be a 90 win
- 27:57team, They're going to be a 90 win team.
- 28:01They're at 85 right now. It's pretty safe to say they're
- 28:03going to be a 90 win team firmly established in that wild card
- 28:07spot at the top. The bullpen too, like I know we
- 28:13talked so offensively of what they can do and we can run down
- 28:15that line up any any which way. You got guys that can bang.
- 28:18You got guys that are potentially Hall of farmers in
- 28:21that lineup. You got a Tatis that's coming
- 28:23back that like has enough time, a good six to eight weeks of
- 28:28just getting grounded and just getting enough ABS in before
- 28:33games start to really count for him.
- 28:35Jackson Merrill could very much probably should win the rookie
- 28:39of the year. Manny Machado is that one that
- 28:42I'm talking about that could end up in the in the Hall of Fame
- 28:44category. You got been there, done that
- 28:47guys. And and Xander Bogart's, I mean,
- 28:49like you have a lot of experience.
- 28:52You have a pesky Luisa Raiz at the top of that lineup.
- 28:55Like there's a lot going on in that lineup, but it's the
- 28:59bullpen for me that just comes in and just pushes your face in
- 29:03it. And in the post season, that's
- 29:09really the most calculated baseball you're going to watch.
- 29:12When teams are saying you've got 66 innings to beat us, that's
- 29:20realistic for the Padres. It really is.
- 29:23So I wouldn't want to see him. I think it's a team and and that
- 29:29stadium at night at home is I don't know if vibes get higher
- 29:35than that. I think I got a team that has
- 29:40just a little bit better vibes when it comes to the home
- 29:43playoff baseball atmosphere, and that is the Philadelphia
- 29:47Phillies, which if you want to now get into the actual rankings
- 29:52of the of these teams and I I'll leave it up to you.
- 29:54The I mean, these are just my teams.
- 29:56If if you've got an outlier of in regards to a team we haven't
- 30:00covered yet, I've got the Phillies rounding out my list,
- 30:04if you will, again, in no particular order to this point,
- 30:07but the Phillies first team, I mean Simply put, first team in
- 30:12baseball to 90 wins. That has to count for something.
- 30:16Sure does. And I think we can acknowledge
- 30:20that they did well. It's not, it's no mystery.
- 30:23They hit a, they hit a little bit of a skid there.
- 30:25Every team does. No matter how dominant of a year
- 30:28you have, no matter how much you were expected to maybe run the
- 30:31table, it's it's going to happen.
- 30:36It's going to happen. Just ask the Houston Astros.
- 30:40But the Phillies, I mean, it's at that.
- 30:44I mean, I know it's like a bit now on this podcast about me
- 30:47being like a pseudo Phillies fan, but like I've just, I've,
- 30:51I've been on board with this team for the last two or three
- 30:54years. And it that's not, you can't sit
- 30:57there and say like, wow, it's easy to it's easy to play the
- 30:59hindsight game. It's like, no, you go back to
- 31:03spring training of the first. What was that?
- 31:062022, I believe, was when they started this, this run of of
- 31:11heightened success, if you will. And I said, I texted you and I
- 31:14could probably find it if I took a second to look.
- 31:18But I told you that I I was feeling something with this
- 31:23Phillies team. And then they go on to do what
- 31:26they've done over the last two, three seasons.
- 31:29And we're at a point now where we're about to turn the calendar
- 31:32in October. They're going to be in it and
- 31:35they're going to, I would venture to say and.
- 31:39Be hosting. Well, not just hosting, but I, I
- 31:42think I, I would venture to say, I think it's probably safe to
- 31:45say that we're looking at a deep run yet again from this Phillies
- 31:50team, whether or not they can actually get over to the hump
- 31:52this time. I know that's something those
- 31:53fans obviously want and have been hungry for for some time
- 31:57now. But the thing that you have to
- 32:00do if you're the Phillies is figure out the pitching as well.
- 32:03Similar to to the Diamondbacks, another nationally contender,
- 32:07you're currently rocking a 431. Yeah.
- 32:11That's what that's what you're sporting right now on the bump.
- 32:13That's 21st and 21st in baseball offensively.
- 32:19I have 0 concerns. Yeah.
- 32:21I mean, talking about this window of since the start of the
- 32:25month, third best in baseball offensively.
- 32:29But even if even say they were middle of the pack, say they
- 32:33were 15th, 16th in baseball, The only thing I care about is when
- 32:38that calendar turns, rocks over because every one of those guys
- 32:41in that lineup reaches another gear.
- 32:44It's true, kicks up a notch. And with that come success.
- 32:49With that comes a deep run. And I think this year is going
- 32:52to be no different. Yeah, dude.
- 32:56I mean, I, I don't know, I know pitching as of late as kind of
- 33:00scuffled. I just, I, I still don't feel
- 33:04that concerned about it. And that's why it's so safe.
- 33:09It's such a safe pick for me to slide them into the NLCS at the
- 33:14very least. I mean, Zach Wheeler is Zach
- 33:18Wheeler. He's lived up to every dollar of
- 33:21that contract so far. It looks like Aaron Nola has
- 33:25has, I think, established himself as a #2 in that lineup
- 33:30or that that rotation. I think that's very fair.
- 33:33You know, I I think you get some good and bad with Aaron Nola,
- 33:36but either way, like that's a team that can get behind that
- 33:41dude more often than not. I think the biggest surprise is
- 33:44going to be Christopher Sanchez. I think that like that's that's
- 33:47a dude that's going to be become a household name in this
- 33:50postseason. That if if you're not able to
- 33:52watch a ton of NO ball or a ton of Phillies games, Christopher
- 33:56Sanchez is going to be someone you're going to be like, oh,
- 33:59excuse me, I was not familiar with your game.
- 34:02You know, the Shaq meme, Ranger Suarez, like, yeah, hot starts
- 34:06the season definitely came back to earth, dealt with some
- 34:09injuries. But either way, like if that's
- 34:13if that's your 4, if that's your four, that's a difficult 4 to
- 34:18deal with. And then you have the added
- 34:21complication of having to go there and play in Philly and
- 34:25deal with that. I mean, that place gets rowdy as
- 34:29we know. So, you know, like you said, we
- 34:32know what the lineup can do. It's it's just it's a very solid
- 34:36team. It's a very, very solid team.
- 34:40For the for the doubters, for the haters.
- 34:43Zoom out. There you go.
- 34:46March, March 19th, 2022. Not going to lie, I'm kind of
- 34:50feeling it with the Phillies for this season and that feeling has
- 34:52not left over the last three years.
- 34:55So say what you will. I got the receipts.
- 35:00Are there any outliers that you got that we didn't mention?
- 35:02Because this was like I said, this was I was just kind of
- 35:05leading the horse here of of teams that I thought I felt were
- 35:10the scariest contenders. Anything.
- 35:12Any honorable mentions? Yeah.
- 35:14I mean, look, like, I think we can see flashes of the Yankees
- 35:24that could make teams a little nervous, specifically
- 35:28offensively in the postseason is so dictated on the long ball.
- 35:32I mean, I think it's like the correlation of a team that hits
- 35:36the most home runs in the postseason very much advances.
- 35:40They're leading baseball on home runs.
- 35:42They're leading baseball on walks, which is something that
- 35:45we haven't really seen from them offensively in years past.
- 35:49This is more the Yankee team that I grew up watching.
- 35:51Where it's working counts. It's getting through the staff,
- 35:55getting to the bullpen and that's what really is shown in
- 36:00like A7 game set. If you can shorten that outing
- 36:03and get to that bullpen early, later in the series, it's going
- 36:07to it's going to do some damage. So, but at the same time like
- 36:10pitching is very much a question mark and you don't know what
- 36:14you're going to get. Do you get the first half
- 36:16Yankees where that look like the rotation is dominant?
- 36:20Do you get what's been since Garrett Cole?
- 36:24Doesn't look like Garrett Cole. Do you get Garrett Cole versus
- 36:27Red Sox Garrett Cole? Like is that the worst?
- 36:30Is that the Garrett Cole that you get in the postseason?
- 36:33Do you specifically, do you get Garrett Cole versus Rafael
- 36:36Devers, Garrett Cole in the postseason?
- 36:38It's true. You certainly don't want that.
- 36:41But it's it's definitely a question mark.
- 36:44He very obviously doesn't look himself.
- 36:46But when you work your way down the list, like I think, you
- 36:49know, if Clark Schmidt can geared up and it gets to that
- 36:53point where he can go a little bit longer, like that's a pretty
- 36:57solid 2 conversation. You've you've got a Carlos
- 37:01Rodin. Like you have guys that can that
- 37:05have been there that can do their thing.
- 37:08The back end of the bullpen is kind of a little bit shifty
- 37:11right now. Not quite sure what the order
- 37:14is. Luke Weaver's kind of stepped in
- 37:16for Clay Holmes at the back end. We just don't know if that's
- 37:19going to last. So, but overall, like, you know,
- 37:22trust me, I've watched a lot of this team this year.
- 37:25Obviously, I definitely have my concerns.
- 37:29I definitely have my questions around them, but it is a team
- 37:32that like, you know, they're difficult to deal with at times
- 37:37and when they're hot, they're hot.
- 37:39But the Guardians would be another team that I would say
- 37:42just a one last little drop in there.
- 37:44Are you putting the New York Yankees on your top five list of
- 37:49scariest contenders right now? I would say yes at 5.
- 37:53They're at the five spot. Oh.
- 37:54OK, well, truth be told, I did originally have them on, but
- 37:58then I looked a little bit deeper into what the Mariners
- 38:00have been doing as of late, so I had to bump the Yankees off.
- 38:05Call it bitterness, whatever you want.
- 38:07Sure. That's fair.
- 38:09Or maybe just want to give the Mariners some credit, some some
- 38:12some overdue credit. I think maybe we're a little
- 38:14weak. Maybe we're like a week late to
- 38:16that. But Mariner's been playing good
- 38:19ball. I if it were up to me, I've got
- 38:22it ranked as from from the bottom to the top.
- 38:26I've got Mariners at 5D, backs at 4, Padres at 3:00, Astros it
- 38:33to Phillies at 1:00. And Dodger is not even in the
- 38:36top five. For you no, because we, we've
- 38:37talked about and I and I know that's probably going to be a
- 38:40point of contention for some people and it's, it's simply
- 38:42because of their pitching like you're talking about, and I'm
- 38:46sure you if if you follow baseball at all, you're
- 38:48listening. I, I'm sure you've seen the
- 38:50reports that Shohei might possibly be back for the
- 38:53postseason. That's that's a great ad that's
- 38:55a great bonus, but that's not what you should have been
- 38:58relying on at this point. The fact that you're more than
- 39:01likely counting on that to to actually make a difference in
- 39:05the postseason, that's that's like worst case scenario, a guy
- 39:09that has not pitched all year, you're then going to more than
- 39:14likely ask him to be some variation of a savior on the
- 39:18mound come come October. And that's not where you want to
- 39:21be. You wanted these other guys to
- 39:23be better and and to be healthier.
- 39:25And I think we what did we just see that Glass now is just about
- 39:29he's done. Toast.
- 39:30He's done for the year, yeah. And and that was a guy that I
- 39:34look, I gave, I gave him credit. I was like, I think I'm pretty
- 39:37sure he set a season high for innings pitch this year, which
- 39:40to me was a win. And I said, if he doesn't pitch
- 39:42another inning this season, if he if he set that benchmark for
- 39:45himself, to me, that's a win. And the Dodgers have to look at
- 39:48that as a win. But it doesn't change the
- 39:50outlook for October. If you lose a guy like that
- 39:53who'd been throwing, well, that stings.
- 39:56And you could say the same thing about a lot of these other guys.
- 39:58Like Walker Bueller has been a shell of himself this year.
- 40:02I mean, that's. What's tough?
- 40:04Yeah, so, and again, I know limited, limited sample size
- 40:08there, but like it's just you're not a you and to me it's not a,
- 40:13it's not like a Diamondback situation where it's like you
- 40:15got, you just need some of these guys to figure it out and turn
- 40:17things around. It's like you don't have anybody
- 40:19to turn to at this point. I mean, you can you're you're
- 40:22going to put a warm, but you're going to put warm bodies out
- 40:25there. But you're going to be asking or
- 40:27you're going to have to ask a whole lot more of these guys
- 40:30than I think you would have liked to at this stage in the
- 40:31game. So that's why I can't put the
- 40:33Padres on on my top five scariest contenders, Dodgers,
- 40:38excuse me. That's why I can't put the
- 40:39Dodgers top five scares contenders at this moment in
- 40:43time. That's very fair.
- 40:46It's very fair. You want me?
- 40:49You want mine? What do you got?
- 40:52I'm going to go Yankees 5. Scrap the whole joint list.
- 40:56Let me just hear your 5 'cause I gave, I gave my logic.
- 41:00It sounds like we're sort of on the same.
- 41:02Same. I'm going to go.
- 41:03Yankees 5, I'm going to go that 4321.
- 41:14OK, so yeah, let's go. Yankees 5.
- 41:19Let's go, Let's go. Padres 4 No, let's go.
- 41:29Guardians 4. Guardians 4.
- 41:33Padres 3. Astros 2.
- 41:37Phillies one. Did I hear you have the
- 41:41Diamondbacks on there or no? No Diamondbacks.
- 41:43The pitching too much of A. The pitching concerns me too
- 41:46much. If if gallon was like like
- 41:49quintessential gallon that we're used to and he was doing what
- 41:53Gallon does, then yeah, I, I, if they, I think that and maybe
- 42:00some, some different things from like the, the back end of that
- 42:03rotation with like fought and, and you know, Ryan Nelson, like
- 42:07if I saw more there, I think I could get behind it.
- 42:11Well, Ryan, Ryan Nelson has been throwing the ball very well as
- 42:16of late, but it's a matter of consistency for him.
- 42:19It's if he can take that in October.
- 42:21But I'm pretty sure, let me double check here.
- 42:23I'm pretty sure they just put him on the shelf.
- 42:26Did they? Yeah, but he'll be back.
- 42:28I think I'll be back in. 3. In like a week and a half just
- 42:33had some some inflammation. But yeah, I mean, he going back
- 42:37honestly since like the start of maybe like early to mid August
- 42:44had been thrown very well. But it's, I mean, his last
- 42:46outing before he went on the shelf, not great.
- 42:49Tough one. So it's just a matter of could
- 42:52you get a little bit more consistency there.
- 42:54But yeah, to your point, I understand why that could lead
- 43:00you to be a little concerned. Yeah, and I don't think they
- 43:06know what they're doing in the closer role either.
- 43:08Paul Seawall does not. I think I saw Paul Seawald is.
- 43:13Ginkle doesn't scare me either. There's.
- 43:15Just I think Seawald, I just saw today, I think that came out
- 43:19with a report. Let me double check.
- 43:20He on the shelf too. He might be done for the year
- 43:23too. Thanks.
- 43:25Dude, yeah, it's, it's, it's just the pitching side of
- 43:29things. You know, the, the front end of
- 43:32that of that rotation isn't like a just, you know, write it in
- 43:35Sharpie. I'm going to get 6 quality
- 43:39innings anymore. Well, not this year anyway.
- 43:42And then the back end of the bullpen is a is a question mark
- 43:45for me as well. So as good as the offense is,
- 43:50yeah, give me that. I just, I think the Guardians,
- 43:54that's like that's where my head goes.
- 43:56Is that like those two teams? For some reason I put in the
- 43:59same category, Guardians winning the division, Guardians at home.
- 44:05Look at the numbers. It's absurd.
- 44:07So if they're hosting when they're hosting post season
- 44:11games, it's going to be different there in Cleveland,
- 44:15not not what you're used to. So yeah.
- 44:19I feel you. Let us transition here, Talk
- 44:25about a little bit of rivalry beef that happened over the
- 44:28weekend, Yankees, Red Sox getting into it a little bit.
- 44:31I mean, maybe not so much with the outcomes.
- 44:34We don't need to go there. That's not important.
- 44:37Why not? That's crazy.
- 44:40We just don't need to get into that for obvious reasons.
- 44:44Please respect my privacy. The the, the issue at hand that
- 44:51we're referring to the beef, we had a little bit of drama from
- 44:56call it Garrett Cole, Raphael Devers, Aaron Judge, Alex Cora.
- 45:03We if we're going to go with four names, we'll go with those
- 45:05four names, basically. Breeze over this bet that you
- 45:08lost. We're just going to ignore that.
- 45:15So. Anyway, she's going to, she's
- 45:22going to throw that blinker on, put it in the other lane.
- 45:25So anyway, on Saturday, Garrett Cole hits Raphael Devers.
- 45:34It's people wondering like, oh, is this intentional?
- 45:36Like, is this Cole's way of just expressing frustration about the
- 45:40fact that he has owned him? Which, by the way, I tell you, I
- 45:43never want to hear you ever, ever dispute or refute the fact
- 45:49that Rafael Devers owns Garrett Cole because this very season
- 45:54you refuted that. And Garrett Cole himself,
- 45:57Garrett Cole himself, you know, in your career, which is the
- 46:03Latin hitter that most gave you or gives you trouble getting
- 46:08out, Rafael Devers didn't take him very long to come up with
- 46:12that response. And I think even if you took out
- 46:15the qualifier of Latin hitter, I think he would give you the same
- 46:18exact answer. So I don't ever want to hear you
- 46:21when I'm sending you the meme of Rafael Devers holding little
- 46:24baby Garrett Cole. I don't ever want you to hit me
- 46:27back with like, oh, well, like, what are the numbers actually
- 46:29say? Because Garrett Cole himself
- 46:33told you what's what. OK, I just want to clear that
- 46:38up. Just want to clear that up.
- 46:40We don't need to worry about it until 2025 though.
- 46:42Hey, hey, hey, hey. Whoa, hey.
- 46:46Yeah. Move on.
- 46:48Finally we get we get Nate fired up a little bit, throwing some
- 46:52hanging makers a little bit. Yeah, where's this Nate been?
- 46:57Enjoy the couch, Sir. There we go.
- 47:00Yeah, she wrote. It's that's what we're talking
- 47:04about. You know, I have a very powerful
- 47:05I have a very powerful button right now that I can use and we
- 47:09we're just going to go ahead and I'm going to I'm going to let
- 47:12you know that I can use it If if I.
- 47:13Need to. Is there a pulse in Boston?
- 47:20Yeah, man. Watch what you say.
- 47:22Is there a pulse in Boston? Watch what you say.
- 47:28Watch your mouth. No, but hey, I'm glad to see you
- 47:30finally coming out of your shell.
- 47:31I've been waiting for. I've just, I've been trying to
- 47:34provoke you for what, like the last three years?
- 47:38Have you noticed I haven't. I didn't even text you after
- 47:40after Sunday. I didn't even care, dude, I had
- 47:44won the fantasy Baseball League. You could have been like the the
- 47:47Red Sox are the most garbage team in baseball.
- 47:51I I would have probably laughed. I probably would have agreed
- 47:54with you honestly, because that's that's where I'm at
- 47:56mentally. Back to the topic at hand
- 47:58though, Rafael Dever or excuse me, Gerrit Cole hits Rafael
- 48:03Devers, which which I think it was, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 48:07It was like, was it a cutter Cutter.
- 48:09It was a cutter. So I mean, that's all.
- 48:12Stop it. It stops right there.
- 48:13It wasn't intentional. And if it was, that's, that's
- 48:15just weird. But just going off of what you
- 48:18see on paper, what you're seeing on TV, not not intentional
- 48:24though. And I all I've been waiting for
- 48:26your take on this where things got interesting though.
- 48:29And and the the intentional or the not intentional hit is what
- 48:35carried over to the Aaron Judge thing.
- 48:36But in between that, you had Aaron Garrett, Cole do something
- 48:42that I have never seen ever from a Cy Young winner puts.
- 48:52There's nobody on base. He's throwing a no hitter.
- 48:56It's a it's a was a one nothing game.
- 48:59Hit a no hitter going. There's a no hitter going
- 49:02against the Red Sox and he puts the most he can do is tie the
- 49:08game. There's nobody on base.
- 49:10That's what he's throwing. A no hitter.
- 49:12OK, not not that hard to to make that, to jump to that
- 49:16conclusion. Puts up the four fingers, holds
- 49:21them up and gives him the old heave ho down to first base.
- 49:27Are you kidding me? Arguably.
- 49:29Love to hear you defend this. I can't.
- 49:32Arguably the softest thing I've ever seen.
- 49:34What are we talking about? You can't.
- 49:37You can't say it's you can't say it's because it's related to
- 49:40some sort of injury or pitch limit or strategy.
- 49:43There is nothing that you can say that would make sense in in,
- 49:48in justifying the defense for that.
- 49:51Unbelievably soft. I mean, come on, what?
- 49:55Inning was it like the third, second, third?
- 49:58No, had to be third. He was doing a no hitter.
- 50:01It was the second second time he faced them, so it was probably.
- 50:05The third of the fourth, I think it was the 4th, I think it was
- 50:07the 4th. Awful.
- 50:08There's no hitter into the 4th. No excuse.
- 50:11Not that I'm not going to sit here and say like, oh, he had
- 50:14like a no hitter. Like I'm not like, please don't
- 50:16take it as that. But I'm just saying at that
- 50:18point in the game, he had hadn't given up a hit.
- 50:22I'm not going to qualify it as a no hit bid in the 4th, but I'm
- 50:25saying he had not given up a hit at that point.
- 50:28It's it was it was arguably one of the softest things I've seen.
- 50:31You can ask, you can ask my wife.
- 50:33I was yelling at the TV after he gave up and proceeded to give up
- 50:38seven. That inning all started with
- 50:41this and endeavours ended up coming back up with the bases
- 50:44loaded and it's a double and you're like baseball, God's just
- 50:49absolutely looking down at you and and just owning you these.
- 50:55Softest, I mean, I'm sure if I thought about it, I, I maybe
- 51:00could come up with like one other thing, but off the top of
- 51:02my head, softest thing I've ever seen on the baseball field
- 51:05especially. I cannot state, I cannot
- 51:08reiterate this enough from a Cy Young winner.
- 51:12You're one of the you're one of our generation's best pitchers.
- 51:16Well, unless you're in Fenway or facing Rafael Devers, one of our
- 51:20generations best pitchers, and you're putting up the four
- 51:23fingers with nobody on base. Yeah, dude, I think, I think I
- 51:28saw the Austin Wells comments after was like, hold up, like
- 51:32can I just say he was kidding? Like can can we stop this?
- 51:35Also, the other thing is a manager has to give that a
- 51:41player can't do that. There has to be a manager.
- 51:44So I don't know what, I don't know what the umpires were
- 51:46doing. The guy's got a screw loose.
- 51:48I don't know. But super soft and then that
- 51:51just shows, goes to show you give up 7 after that.
- 51:55But then I, I will say one thing when you said that the cutter
- 51:59inside in the first AB wasn't on purpose.
- 52:02I think it was a let me throw a cutter in, try to get it on on
- 52:06on his hands. If it hits him, I don't care.
- 52:09I think that was probably the thought process, which is also
- 52:13soft, but I think that was probably like, you know what I'm
- 52:17saying? Like it's not necessarily
- 52:18intentional that he hit him, but it's like you have a very small
- 52:24window and Rafael Devers is a very, very good bad ball hitter,
- 52:30very, very good outside. Like he has crazy coverage, he
- 52:35gets barrel on balls that I don't even understand how.
- 52:38I don't, I don't know what the numbers show because they do
- 52:41have ways of tracking how good you are out of the zone.
- 52:44He's got to be top five. He's got to be one of the best,
- 52:47best hitters in baseball when it's balls out of the zone and
- 52:51that's kind of how you have to pitch those guys.
- 52:52So I do think it was a lot of like, let me throw a cutter
- 52:56under the hands, see if I can saw him off.
- 52:58If it hits him, it hits him. I think that was probably the
- 53:01thought process there. Well, Speaking of, of hitting
- 53:04somebody, the, the, the beef, the, the drama developed later
- 53:10in that game. It was a 6th inning I believe.
- 53:15You had Brian Baio throw behind Aaron Judge.
- 53:20And then after the game you have Alex Korra.
- 53:23I think there was, I think there was two pitches.
- 53:26I think the fastball went behind him and then the fastball close
- 53:30to the belt. Yeah, but I mean, you, you have
- 53:33Alex Kora having an answer for it.
- 53:34And he, I mean, I love Alex Kora.
- 53:37I mean, he's literally, he's, he's on the wall back there
- 53:40holding up the, holding up the 18 trophy.
- 53:42You can see it right there. I, I don't know if I get what he
- 53:50was doing. You're, you're trying to fire up
- 53:52the boys. You're trying to you're trying
- 53:54to get something a little, you're trying to get something
- 53:56going a little bit. Clearly didn't work.
- 53:59You dropped what, 3 or 4 to the Yankees this weekend.
- 54:03Like I said, I, I get what you were doing.
- 54:04It didn't work. And it also by acknowledging, by
- 54:07essentially admitting that that's what you were trying to
- 54:09do, you're like, we missed our shot.
- 54:12You're now putting yourself as a manager in hot water because
- 54:15they they came out today and said that the league's
- 54:17investigating it, which what make of that what you will.
- 54:20I don't care frankly, regarding the possible suspension.
- 54:24I don't really care because the season's over at this point
- 54:26doesn't matter to me. And I'm sure Core would love to
- 54:29be out there, but he's probably looking at this going I've I've
- 54:31done what I can do. I got him back into the mix, but
- 54:35we're just not we're not hitting right now.
- 54:36So. Trying to get one more round of
- 54:39golf in before before the weather changes, that's all.
- 54:41I guess whatever we'll see you in 2025.
- 54:44It was it was a fun run Red Sox. But yeah, that I mean, that's
- 54:46that's a little bit of the drama.
- 54:48I'm I'm hope I'm hopeful that this continues into next year.
- 54:52Not this issue, this instance. I'm not I'm not saying I don't
- 54:56we don't we don't need the security of the rivalry.
- 54:59Yeah, Bigger picture, I'm hoping that that it revitalizes a
- 55:02little bit into 2025 because I think the game needs it.
- 55:05As much as people like to get tired, as much as people get
- 55:08tired of hearing about the Yankees and Red Sox, you and I
- 55:10get tired of hearing about the Yankees, Red Sox when they're on
- 55:13Sunday Night Baseball in the middle of June and like they're
- 55:16both playing like crap, whatever it is.
- 55:18Both 1:00 and 9:00 in the last 10.
- 55:21But when they're both playing good ball, when they're when
- 55:23they're going at each other's throats, that's that's good for
- 55:25the game. I don't care what anybody says,
- 55:28what's not good for the game. Real quick one, I'm going to go
- 55:32ahead. I'm just going to give a little
- 55:34this, just a little there, just a little gentleman tip of the
- 55:38cap. I don't think anybody expected
- 55:44this season out of the Red Sox. I think there's a lot of good
- 55:49things that you can carry into the offseason in the next year.
- 55:53You have a like, your rookies really showed up.
- 55:57Like I think Abreu is for sure in a conversation of being a top
- 56:04outfielder at some point. Jaron Duran, the man.
- 56:07Like that guy's crazy good. And may I say Abreu a better
- 56:13right fielder than Alex Verdugo or just outfielder in general
- 56:16than Alex? Verdugo yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 56:18That's fair. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:19Just wanted. Yeah, just wanted to make sure
- 56:21that was. Yeah, hopefully he's not a
- 56:23Yankee next year, Verdugo. Not a very, but I think there's,
- 56:28I mean Colton Wong, like you have Colton Wong, Connor Wong.
- 56:31Connor Wong. You have.
- 56:33Saddam Rafaela. You have very good core, very
- 56:37good bright things that are coming out of out of Boston.
- 56:41I, I think there's a lot to and, and like job well done of like
- 56:47what they were able to do and to still be in the conversation in
- 56:50the middle of September, No one, no one saw that coming.
- 56:54So. Hand up I I certainly didn't.
- 56:58But regarding the Yankees, Joe on Twitter says no matter what,
- 57:02Yankees versus Orioles playoff series will be electric.
- 57:04Not going to lie, I would love to see that.
- 57:07Here's the. I hope we get something like.
- 57:08That there's so much the the the Yankees hang out rent free in
- 57:14Orioles fans brains to this. Every fan base, like I, I sit
- 57:18here and rag on the Yankees, but it's just common knowledge at
- 57:20that it's it's the Yankees versus everybody else when it
- 57:23comes to the whole free. Thing like, it's really strange.
- 57:26Like I don't even really think about the Orioles that often
- 57:29until they play like it. But like, the way that Yankees
- 57:33Twitter is constantly Orioles Twitter constantly talking about
- 57:38Yankees when they're not even playing each other is like,
- 57:41relax dude. I get it.
- 57:43I get it. But yeah, it's it's going to be
- 57:46good. If if they do, they link up,
- 57:48it's going to be it's going. To be good.
- 57:52Going back to my original segue, what's what's not good for the
- 57:56game? This little little rewind there,
- 57:59what's not good for the game? This whole Derek Bender throwing
- 58:04the games from behind the dish thing.
- 58:07It's a little I, I, I realized this, this is a few days out of
- 58:12the out of the news cycle now, so we don't have to spend too
- 58:14much time on it, but we it was requested that we at least talk
- 58:17about it. I'll be honest with you.
- 58:21I saw that there was like a a teammate or two that came to his
- 58:27defense talking about how he's like the one of the better
- 58:31teammates that they've ever had and that I may be miss.
- 58:37I may be incorrectly paraphrasing here, but I could
- 58:41have sworn it was something to the effect of like I understand
- 58:46it or like we've or no, I think that's what it was.
- 58:48It was something to the effect of like, we've all we've all
- 58:52wanted things to be over or something.
- 58:54And I'm like, this is a weird, weird hill to die on.
- 59:00Coming to the defense of the guy that was literally giving signs
- 59:02away. Like you and I like granted, we
- 59:04didn't play professional at at college.
- 59:07I'm sure even there was, there was points of the year where
- 59:09you're going. Oh yeah.
- 59:12Man, it's been a long year burnt out.
- 59:14We need to just this thing needs to just wrap up because I mean,
- 59:19or like if you played in the summer league for like
- 59:21collegiate summer league, that's that gives you a taste of what
- 59:24what? Those are tough.
- 59:26What the, the grind is like, and I'm certain that I, I, there's a
- 59:31team that I'm thinking of in particular that I play.
- 59:35It was a summer collegiate team. It was one of those ones you
- 59:37play six games out of the week or six days out of the week and
- 59:41it got to the end and it was like if we won, we went into the
- 59:44post of the we made it to the playoffs.
- 59:46But if not, we're done and we're looking around going.
- 59:48We don't stand a chance anyway. So let's not fool ourselves
- 59:51here. And I think we like punted, but
- 59:53to to actively be given signs. I think this is just that's
- 59:58that's. A little.
- 59:58It's tough. It's tough dude.
- 1:00:00And like. When I heard, I think it was, I
- 1:00:05don't know if it was like a tweet or it was in the article,
- 1:00:07but it was like when you spend you were six round pick when you
- 1:00:10spend quite literally your whole life working for this and throw
- 1:00:19it away for that lack of competitiveness that like lack
- 1:00:26of fire. Like I think that's the biggest
- 1:00:28thing that would sit with me if I'm in the front office is like,
- 1:00:32I don't, not only is this inexcusable, it's like you're
- 1:00:37just not a winner. I want winners in my
- 1:00:41organization. You're not a winner.
- 1:00:44Take a hike like that to me. Like I I get pissed if I lose
- 1:00:48board games, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:53Like I won't I won't talk to my family if I lose monopoly.
- 1:00:56That's what I'm saying, dude. I will move out.
- 1:01:00I will. Burn this house down.
- 1:01:03But I think it's just it's tough on the other side of things.
- 1:01:11Give this some time, let it blow over.
- 1:01:15There has to be some remorse here.
- 1:01:18But the there's got to be a second chance if the precedent
- 1:01:23you're setting for giving domestic violence type guys who
- 1:01:28are in the big leagues making millions a slap on the wrist for
- 1:01:32those and giving them second, third, fourth chances and this
- 1:01:37kids not going to get a second chance.
- 1:01:40Hear hear me out though, I'm I'm off the field.
- 1:01:43Versus on the field? No, no, no, I understand.
- 1:01:45Yeah, yeah, I'm going to have to tread super lightly here because
- 1:01:48I'm. I don't want it to come across
- 1:01:50as I'm like defending domestic computers.
- 1:01:51I'm certainly not. However, with that like once
- 1:01:59time passes, once they've, you know, they've done their time,
- 1:02:03they've they've served their, whatever penalty they incurred,
- 1:02:08you could make the, the arguments like, OK, they've done
- 1:02:11what they needed to do. They seem remorseful.
- 1:02:13They've, they've done, they've done some form of rehab or or
- 1:02:18community service, whatever the, the crime was, if you will, that
- 1:02:21they committed, whether it's domestic or, or elsewhere or,
- 1:02:25you know, whatever. But with this, though, I don't
- 1:02:30know if I'm as quick to say that this guy would get a second
- 1:02:33chance simply because of the fact that that tells you what
- 1:02:36like, I'm not going to sit here and try to try to like classify
- 1:02:42the make like the mental or competitive makeup of a domestic
- 1:02:45abuser. But I would venture to say if a
- 1:02:47guy gets caught up in just a, a rough stretch with, with his his
- 1:02:51wife or girlfriend or whatever, that even if you removed that
- 1:02:57from the equation, at the end of the day, they're still going to
- 1:03:00be a a competitor. Like they're still going to want
- 1:03:02to go out and play baseball. But with this guy, granted, he
- 1:03:05didn't, he didn't go out and abuse anybody, but he told, he
- 1:03:08basically told you with this that like, I'm OK if we don't,
- 1:03:12if we don't win baseball games. So it's like I don't know how
- 1:03:16much time would, would pass or what would really change for me
- 1:03:19as somebody in the, the the minors team's front office.
- 1:03:24Yeah. That that would even really
- 1:03:26change, I don't know. I hear you.
- 1:03:29I just, I maybe give a little time, let it, let it blow over a
- 1:03:33little bit. See if there's any context.
- 1:03:36We have no idea. Not that I'm coming to the
- 1:03:39defense of this guy. I, I, I, I don't understand it.
- 1:03:44It doesn't compute for me. I can't do that.
- 1:03:49Just my competitive nature, I'm not able to just do that.
- 1:03:55But at the same time, you know, like we don't know, like who is
- 1:03:58there? Is there a funeral?
- 1:04:00Is there a birth of a child? Is there a sick person at home?
- 1:04:04Like we have no idea, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:04:06Is there an outside circumstance that makes him want to go home?
- 1:04:10We don't know. So give us some time, let it
- 1:04:12blow over. Maybe there's some context
- 1:04:14there. Maybe there's a story there.
- 1:04:16I don't know. I I do think that like a six
- 1:04:19round pick probably has some talent when you have your other
- 1:04:24teammates that are saying, you know, he's actually a heck of a
- 1:04:27teammate. He's a great dude in the
- 1:04:28clubhouse. Like I think there's potential
- 1:04:32for a another opportunity. It the tough thing is that like,
- 1:04:38we probably aren't going to find out, probably aren't going to
- 1:04:41hear about it because these guys rarely even make it to the show
- 1:04:45anyway, so. Speaking of the show, we have
- 1:04:50got helmet ads come into the post season.
- 1:05:00It's all I really got on that. I don't know, I just hate it.
- 1:05:04Like I said this before, Nate, I'm I'm tired of sounding like
- 1:05:10the old man yelling at the clouds.
- 1:05:12But it's like, so unless we agree with just everything that
- 1:05:16comes down the pipe, does that make us an old man yelling at
- 1:05:19the clouds? Like, are we?
- 1:05:21Are we old heads? Buy in Kyle, buy in are.
- 1:05:25We old heads for looking at at at Major League Baseball,
- 1:05:29bringing in helmet ads from a German workwear company.
- 1:05:37Are we are we old heads for looking at that and going, Hey,
- 1:05:39that's that's not like that's just not a good idea.
- 1:05:42That's just, you know, it doesn't look good.
- 1:05:44It's we don't want that. And it's just overall generally
- 1:05:49not a it's it it's not a good idea.
- 1:05:53Do we have to be fully on board like in order to fit in now with
- 1:05:57like the this new wave of baseball fans?
- 1:05:59Like I'm honestly asking, genuinely asking, like are
- 1:06:03people like wanting this? Are they?
- 1:06:06Are there people defending this? I can't imagine there are.
- 1:06:12I mean, it's just like why nobody asked for this?
- 1:06:17And I know it's not about like us asking for it versus not
- 1:06:20because I understand this is like a, this is on the business
- 1:06:23side of things. But like, why figure out another
- 1:06:29way to like, if you, if you're so desperate to have business
- 1:06:35relationship with this German workwear company, then figure
- 1:06:39out another way to incorporate it.
- 1:06:40Like just let you've are you. I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:06:44Disagree with me or not, you've completely trashed the uniforms
- 1:06:49themselves, just with the, with the, the, the patches.
- 1:06:53And I mean, this feels like a a lifetime ago, but I remember the
- 1:06:58the uproar when they added when Nike added the swoosh on the
- 1:07:01front of the jerseys. You've got that on the front of
- 1:07:04like Yankee pinstripes and you're going around like this is
- 1:07:07this just isn't this isn't baseball.
- 1:07:09And then there's been other things that have come along it
- 1:07:12like, Oh well, Fanatics, obviously with just the way they
- 1:07:17completely destroyed the jerseys.
- 1:07:19But it's like this was just one other one additional thing that
- 1:07:22if you would have avoided it, you would have been in you would
- 1:07:24have been in better standing with the with the fans.
- 1:07:26But you said, no, we're going to we're going to double, triple,
- 1:07:30quadruple down and we're going to add these stupid looking
- 1:07:34helmet ads, which at the end of the day aren't going to like
- 1:07:37make me not watch baseball. But it's just such a stupid
- 1:07:40thing that I feel like we had I, I, it's stupid that we have to
- 1:07:43bring it up, But I feel like it can't not be brought up because
- 1:07:48it's like if we, if nobody says anything, if we just continue to
- 1:07:51just let all the stuff roll in, then it's just, it's like it is,
- 1:07:55it's just going to become a league wide money grab.
- 1:07:57Like the product is no longer going to be the product.
- 1:08:00It's going to be a it's going to be a cash grab.
- 1:08:02And I feel like I fear that we're like already knocking on
- 1:08:05the door of that. It's just so, it's just so much
- 1:08:08greed. That's what it feels like to me.
- 1:08:11It's just greed. It's just money hungry greed.
- 1:08:15Like 1 is enough, enough. Like you have banners all or
- 1:08:20every inch of the fence and backstop.
- 1:08:24Everywhere. Don't get me started on the
- 1:08:26green screen on on the actual. Your green screen, your ticker,
- 1:08:30your lineup is brought to you by this slow motion is brought to
- 1:08:34you by this replay review is brought to you like all of it.
- 1:08:39It's like, at what point do we draw the freaking line?
- 1:08:47Where when I think it was the, oh, what broadcast was, I think
- 1:08:55it was the Fox Saturday game with the Yankees and the Red Sox
- 1:08:59where they were talking about it.
- 1:09:00And then they're like panning around and they're looking at
- 1:09:03every cameraman who's, you know, wearing the, the outfit and it's
- 1:09:08like a quarter zip with, you know, and it's like enough,
- 1:09:12dude. Like it, It doesn't help that
- 1:09:15you're getting broadcasters to jam it down our throat and make
- 1:09:18it seem normal. Like tell me, I would like to
- 1:09:23see how much revenue has gone up for the companies with the
- 1:09:27patches as ADT, as their as their sales skyrocketed because
- 1:09:33of the Marlins has has Motorola just taken over the world
- 1:09:39because of the Padres? Like I'd like to know.
- 1:09:42I'd like to see the numbers. I'd like to see the correlation
- 1:09:46of the scale going up because of these patches.
- 1:09:51I'll tell you I'll I'll give you an example how of how
- 1:09:54ineffective I think this is. Tell me right now who the jersey
- 1:09:57patch is for the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 1:09:59Couldn't tell you, no idea I could.
- 1:10:02I just named the only two I know.
- 1:10:04I know, I know the I. Don't even know the Yankee one.
- 1:10:09Couldn't even tell you, but like we talked about what this year,
- 1:10:11I, I saw that sign that you could on the concourse, you
- 1:10:15could take your jersey and get it customized personalized with
- 1:10:18the with the. Insurance patch.
- 1:10:20Slap that baby on there. Because that's something that
- 1:10:23people want to do. I.
- 1:10:24Mean get a get a free quote if you show me your patch on your
- 1:10:27jersey. It's doing man enough's enough.
- 1:10:30That's all I'm done talking about.
- 1:10:32This is stupid. Last thing I got here, Elliott
- 1:10:35Ramos becomes the 1st right-handed hitter to drop a
- 1:10:39ball into Mccovey Cove. How about that man 20?
- 1:10:46Temperature. Was it a warm day out there?
- 1:10:4825 years. When did he do it?
- 1:10:53Was it yesterday? Yeah, it was yesterday, Sunday.
- 1:10:58Where did it go 374, 394 Sorry. Yeah, 394, Yep, which I'll be
- 1:11:07honest, it didn't look like it was when I watched the replay.
- 1:11:09It did not look like it made it out.
- 1:11:10It looked like it, it skimmed the the little concourse out
- 1:11:15there, but it made it out there. Also, am I?
- 1:11:19I don't know if I mentioned this last year.
- 1:11:21I'm forgetting if if it's a thing.
- 1:11:24So Roberto Clemente isn't worn by everybody?
- 1:11:29Sorry. Before I forget the 21 the.
- 1:11:31Temperature yesterday in San Francisco it it was a high of
- 1:11:3463. Just a little, little warmth
- 1:11:38there, that's all you need and the ball will go.
- 1:11:42To answer your question, the I'm like 99% sure the pirates all
- 1:11:49wore 21. I think it's league wide.
- 1:11:52They give the guys the option. I think that or the choice to to
- 1:11:55choose if they want to wear it or not.
- 1:11:57OK, gotcha. Right, whatever.
- 1:12:02I just, I because obviously Ellie Ramos was wearing it.
- 1:12:07Yeah, which I think I saw. It was this 21st home run on
- 1:12:10Roberto Clemente Day, which I thought was pretty cool.
- 1:12:12Little little nugget there from the baseball guys.
- 1:12:15I like that I want to call him Helio.
- 1:12:17Can I do that? It's not Helio, it's Elliot.
- 1:12:20It just looks, it looks good. It sounds good.
- 1:12:23Yeah, Helio sounds really cool. Definitely way cooler.
- 1:12:27It's kind of like kind of like Tariq's Google.
- 1:12:29That sounds way cooler. And Derek?
- 1:12:32Yeah, I don't. I want my name right Name with
- 1:12:34Derek. Let's call his parents.
- 1:12:36Let's get them on the line. Helio would be an election on a
- 1:12:42Spanish broadcast. But yeah, just a little nugget
- 1:12:45here. First, first splash Homer out
- 1:12:48there in Mccovey Cove. Just wanted to note that.
- 1:12:53Sick cool stuff. It's just one of those things
- 1:12:57where. Just wild.
- 1:12:59You have to do a double take. You're like, there's no way that
- 1:13:02long. It took this long for that to
- 1:13:05happen. And from a guy that like, I mean
- 1:13:07no disrespect to him, but it's like.
- 1:13:09Yeah, Hey, no, Jeff Kent, you know what I mean.
- 1:13:14I mean, what if it's baseball's weird sometimes, man.
- 1:13:18Good for him though. You know that man, that.
- 1:13:20Was the 1st. That was the first righty that
- 1:13:21came to mind. I was going to sack Manny
- 1:13:23Ramirez. I'm sure he he played a time or
- 1:13:25two out there or No, No, no, no, no.
- 1:13:29Yeah, yeah, he would have. Yeah, he would have played out
- 1:13:32there for sure. For sure, for sure.
- 1:13:34Yeah, yeah. Spent a lot of time in the El.
- 1:13:36Not in his prime. Was a Dodger.
- 1:13:38For a bit, yeah. Manny would hated that yes, that
- 1:13:45was stupid, but anyway, that's that's all we got anything else
- 1:13:50for the people. By the way, if you're listening,
- 1:13:52if you're watching, thank you so much.
- 1:13:55I don't we don't we don't we don't say that enough.

- 1:15:48little accountability here before we go.
- 1:15:51I, I've been, I was out on vacation last week and I'll,
- 1:15:55I'll admit I was sort of checked out mentally, but I, I'm going
- 1:16:00to be better from here throughout the rest of the
- 1:16:02season, I'm going to be better about.
- 1:16:06Getting stuff out. Accountability right there.
- 1:16:08I like. Getting getting stuff out there
- 1:16:09for you guys content wise, getting back to you guys in the
- 1:16:12DMS, the replies. I'm going to be better.
