- 0:27Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:32culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:35media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:38Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:41I'm your host Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:45media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:50everyone. OK, I know that yesterday I was
- 0:52saying that I'm so ready to leave this office and I am ready
- 0:56to leave this office. But the fact that this is the
- 0:58second last time that I'm going to be recording Mini Scroll in
- 1:02this office, which is the whole reason why I got this office in
- 1:05the 1st place, it is a little bit sad.
- 1:07We've been at our Co working space for five years, but we
- 1:11only got a dedicated office when I decided to do a podcast every
- 1:15single day. Previously, we would record the
- 1:16podcast in my spare room at home and when I was going to do it
- 1:20every day, I'm like, OK, we definitely need a space.
- 1:23And it felt like it was time anyways to get our own dedicated
- 1:26office. It's very like sentimental to
- 1:28me. It marked a really big shift in
- 1:30the business. It marked a big change.
- 1:32I mean, it was basically the birth of mini scroll that really
- 1:35took off in this office. And it was the whole purpose why
- 1:38we got it. So yeah, it's very like
- 1:40bittersweet, but I'm sure I'll be sitting here at this time
- 1:43next week being like, thank God. Thank God we're out of there.
- 1:46Anyways, before I get into the stories for today, Please
- 1:49remember to rape review and subscribe.
- 1:51Please Spotify star rate US. We're trying to get to 1000
- 1:53Spotify star ratings by the end of the year.
- 1:56And subscribe to our newsletter. There's always links down below.
- 1:58You can buy us a coffee down below, you can subscribe to our
- 2:01newsletter, you can find me on TikTok, all that kind of stuff.
- 2:05OK, the first story that I have for you guys, these stories
- 2:07today are niche. OK, strap in.
- 2:10The first story that I have for you guys is that fashion
- 2:12influencer Danielle Bernstein is being accused of stealing her
- 2:16engagement party speech from another influencer.
- 2:20So if you're not familiar with Danielle Bernstein, she's the
- 2:23founder of We Wore What and also a fashion influencer.
- 2:26As I mentioned, she is a pretty polarizing figure and has
- 2:29recently found herself in another controversy.
- 2:33So TikTok users are calling out Danielle for allegedly stealing
- 2:36a wedding speech from another influencer.
- 2:38Danielle seemingly gave the speech at her own engagement
- 2:41party around a week ago and people are saying it is almost
- 2:44word for word. So at Be or Bay seem to bring
- 2:47the story to light. So she made a TikTok saying she
- 2:50believes that Danielle stole this speech from the creator at
- 2:54Maya Labella Clark. And in this video where she's
- 2:57talking about how she thinks that Danielle has stolen this
- 2:59speech, she said she left a comment on a post by by Danielle
- 3:03accusing her of this, and the comment was quickly deleted.
- 3:06I left my first ever hate comment and it was towards
- 3:09Daniel Bernstein though we were what girl?
- 3:12It obviously got deleted within like minutes.
- 3:15Her speech she gave at her engagement party is nearly
- 3:18identical to a speech a girl on TikTok gave at her wedding.
- 3:24The only reason I noticed is because I saw the first girls
- 3:27video like the day. Prior, the comments underneath
- 3:30this original video are very critical of Danielle.
- 3:33Most could not comprehend why she would copy a speech for her
- 3:37own engagement party, while others wondered whether the
- 3:39whole speech was taken from ChatGPT.
- 3:43The video has since spread to other platforms like Reddit,
- 3:45with posts on our slash NYC influencer snark getting
- 3:48hundreds, if not thousands of upvotes.
- 3:51Now, part of the reason why this has gained a lot of traction is
- 3:54because Danielle has faced accusations of stealing many
- 3:57times throughout her career. Back in 2018, for example,
- 4:00Danielle was called out by fashion industry watchdog Diet
- 4:03Prada for the similarities between the Lulu DK and We Were
- 4:07What Fine Jewelry Collection and pieces from other brands like
- 4:12Foundry. The post read quote at We were
- 4:14What did you miss the memo on social responsibility in 2018?
- 4:18Because it seems like your jewelry line with Lulu DK
- 4:22lifestyle for Nordstrom is cherry picked out of your
- 4:24personal jewelry collection. Pieces from hard working
- 4:27designers not only shared their work with you, but some even
- 4:30invited you into their homes. Pretty cruddy way to show
- 4:33support and tagged a few different brands that they felt
- 4:36like her line copied from if you ask us.
- 4:39And then a couple of years later, Danielle was also accused
- 4:42of copying being designer Cecilia Benson in her Macy's
- 4:45collection. Now, these are just some
- 4:48examples, OK? But many people have taken this
- 4:50to show that she has this pattern of behavior of copying.
- 4:55And there are so many examples that have been floating around
- 4:58for years of her allegedly copying ideas, copying designs,
- 5:02copying concepts, and I guess now allegedly copying speeches.
- 5:06OK, The next story that I have for you guys, this was a Spotify
- 5:11comment that we got. Somebody asked us to cover the
- 5:13Swift ologist and Adam McIntyre. And I actually had seen
- 5:17something about this last week, but I genuinely thought the
- 5:21video that I was watching was possibly AI and I didn't trust
- 5:25it. And then I thought, OK, well,
- 5:26this will come across my desk in another capacity if this is
- 5:29true. So I just kind of moved on.
- 5:31So then when we got the comment, I was like, oh, I guess that was
- 5:34real. So let's look into it.
- 5:35So there is some drama in the commentary community,
- 5:39specifically between Zachary Horan, who is known as the
- 5:42Swiftologist, and Adam McIntyre. This all goes back to the somber
- 5:46drama that we actually did report on here.
- 5:49But as a quick reminder, Somber, who is an up and coming singer,
- 5:52got a lot of backlash after responding to criticism of his
- 5:56show from a 25 year old woman and it kicked off this whole
- 5:59discourse between 20 year olds and 25 year olds online.
- 6:04So both Adam and the Swiftologist shared their take
- 6:07on the situation. Adam was pretty firm on his
- 6:09stance and was not favorable towards Somber.
- 6:12He had a particular issue with how he talks to the young
- 6:15audience at a show, noting that it is sexualizing the crowd, who
- 6:19is, as we know and as I reported on, is apparently filled with
- 6:22tweens and teens. Meanwhile, the Swift had a much
- 6:26more favorable take toward Somber, and his title of his
- 6:29video was actually Justice for Somber.
- 6:31OK so Adam went on to react to the Swiftologist take on stream
- 6:37and he felt that the swiftologist take was 1
- 6:41misogynistic toward the woman who made the video about
- 6:44Somber's concert and two, that he was leaning in toward the
- 6:48Aegis discourse online and that he excused what many considered
- 6:51over sexualized behavior because he was defending Somber.
- 6:55Adam even speculated that it was paid PR because he could not
- 6:59believe that he had this take. This video was posted on October
- 7:0324th. Now, Adam has posted a follow up
- 7:06video titled The Swiftologist is Threatening Me where he revealed
- 7:10that the creator is threatening legal action.
- 7:12In the stream, Adam went on to read the e-mail that he received
- 7:16from the swiftologist. According to the e-mail, the
- 7:18swiftologist allegedly asked Adam to take down his previous
- 7:21video or certain parts of the video, claiming that it was
- 7:24defamatory. He took particular issue with
- 7:27the way that Adam was questioning whether the
- 7:28swiftologist had been paid by Somber's PR team and manager.
- 7:32The swiftologist also said he was dealing with reputational
- 7:35harm and targeted harassment as a result of the video.
- 7:39Adam notes that this was largely impossible because he had sent
- 7:41this e-mail just over 24 hours after Adam's video had been
- 7:44published. Adam was saying he was really
- 7:46taken aback by the situation and didn't expect the Swiftologist
- 7:49to react like this, especially because he is a commentary and
- 7:53review creator himself. Adam also explained that he had
- 7:56long been a fan of the Swiftologist content so this was
- 7:58quite a shock. And then earlier today, Adam
- 8:00posted another video about the situation titled Dear the
- 8:04Swiftologist Leave Me Alone where he discussed the fallout
- 8:07since the last video. He began by noting that many of
- 8:10his followers started sharing the content from the
- 8:12Swiftologist discord, which some of it was about Adam.
- 8:15One of his followers told Adam that the swiftologist long had
- 8:18quote one sided beef with him where the Swiftologist had
- 8:21allegedly described Adam as a loser during the peak Colleen
- 8:25Ballinger cancellation, which is really horrific.
- 8:28If you know anything about Adam's relationship or former
- 8:32relationship with Colleen Ballinger and you know
- 8:34everything he went through and how he spoke out against her
- 8:37during that time. If this is true, if this is
- 8:39actually how Zach reacted to that, that is really horrible.
- 8:42Also, I don't know why I keep saying this with ologist.
- 8:44I'm going to start saying Zach. It's actually quite a mouthful.
- 8:47So Adam went on to receive compilations from fans of Zach
- 8:51talking about him and then Adam emailed the swiftologist to
- 8:54verify whether these screenshots were true slash if he had any
- 8:57commentary about it. Adam says he did not receive a
- 9:00response before filming his video and had waited 24 hours.
- 9:03He also alleged that Zac continues to post about him in
- 9:06the discord but refuses to respond to his emails.
- 9:08So Adam is insinuating that the reason why Zac emailed him in
- 9:12the 1st place is because he's been waiting to come for Adam.
- 9:16Adam saying he clearly had problems with him before this
- 9:19whole situation and he was using this as his opportunity.
- 9:21At the time of recording. Zac Jack has seemingly posted a
- 9:24community post on his YouTube channel about it.
- 9:27He wrote Hey everyone, I want to quickly address what's been
- 9:30circulating. I won't be commenting on it
- 9:32further right now because it's part of an ongoing legal process
- 9:35that's already in motion. To be clear, this isn't about
- 9:37someone making a commentary video about me.
- 9:39That happens every day. You are all entitled to say
- 9:42whatever you like about me. This is specifically addressing
- 9:44a false claim that I was paid to promote an artist or push a
- 9:47narrative. That's not true and it's
- 9:49defamatory. He goes on to talk about how
- 9:51integrity is important to him. And I did want to say this
- 9:53actually is a pretty common narrative.
- 9:55I remember once people on TikTok were accusing me of being paid
- 9:59by Hailey Bieber because I defended her in some situation.
- 10:03I can't even remember what it was it was like years ago.
- 10:06But there does seem to be this kind of out of control belief
- 10:09amongst people online commentary creators, podcasters, whatever
- 10:14are being paid off often by celebrities to give them good
- 10:19PR. And I'm sure that happens here
- 10:21and there, but it was so laughable that at the time
- 10:25people thought that Haley Bieber was paying infinite scroll.
- 10:29And this was like years ago. This was well before we had, we
- 10:32probably didn't even have 50,000 listens a month.
- 10:34Like, I don't even know. We were like a speck of a
- 10:37podcast, okay? And it's so wild when you see
- 10:41these narratives. So I understand why he's like,
- 10:44this is crazy. Like this is obviously not true.
- 10:46But I also think if you're someone who watches commentary
- 10:49content, you understand that a lot of what is being presented
- 10:52is opinion as opposed to fact, especially the way that it's
- 10:55framed, like the way that this was framed.
- 10:56Like obviously Adam does not know if Zach is being paid off.
- 11:00OK, so Adam took issue with the fact that Zach said he would be
- 11:03handling this offline but won't even respond to his emails.
- 11:07And at this point in time, it doesn't look like Adam is going
- 11:09to back down when it comes to talking about this publicly.
- 11:12So I guess we'll see what happens.
- 11:13And it also seems largely like the Internet is on Adam's side,
- 11:17at least at the time of recording.
- 11:18OK, the next story that I have for you guys, I have a little
- 11:21Charlie Ann C and the Welsh 5 friendship fallout update.
- 11:26So back in May, I did a mini deep dive on the falling out
- 11:29between Charlie Ann and the Welsh 5 five and that episode
- 11:32did weirdly well. So I wanted to share this small
- 11:35development that's been going on this week.
- 11:37So in case you don't know the Welsh 5, they're this group of
- 11:40friends from Wales who rose to fame on TikTok together,
- 11:43becoming known mostly for their food content.
- 11:45The original group included Charlie Ann Kane.
- 11:48Ian, I'm so sorry if I've said that wrong.
- 11:50I do have in my notes to pronounce it like Ryan but
- 11:54without an R, but I don't even know if that's right because I'm
- 11:57pretty sure that's how I pronounced it in the entire
- 11:59former episode that I'm referring to.
- 12:01And I got absolutely annihilated because I said it wrong, like
- 12:04the whole time. So I don't know.
- 12:05I'm very sorry. And I watched their content.
- 12:07I don't know Leah and Corey. For context, Leah and Corey are
- 12:11in a relationship. So it was confirmed back in May
- 12:15that there was some major drama within the crew and that Charlie
- 12:18Ann was taking a step back from these friendships.
- 12:21This was particularly sad given that Charlie was childhood
- 12:24friends with Corey and they were super close with each other's
- 12:26families. And as a result, Corey, Charlie,
- 12:29and Leah became this like threesome that we all followed
- 12:32on TikTok and they were so so close at the time.
- 12:35The group confirmed through shady TikTok comments that
- 12:37Charlie stopped being friends with the group because of her
- 12:40new girlfriend Emily. So this girlfriend seemingly put
- 12:43a wedge between Charlie and the group.
- 12:45Charlie made a response video at the time saying this is not
- 12:47true. And sometimes you just basically
- 12:49need like distance from certain friendships.
- 12:51And she basically just said, like, my girlfriend's not the
- 12:53problem. Anyway, So this week, the drama
- 12:55was dredged back up when Corey and Leah had their baby and
- 12:59announced that it was named Adventure.
- 13:01And then right after Charlie again, their former best friend
- 13:06posted a vlog with her girlfriend saying that they're
- 13:08going on an adventure. And in the caption, she still
- 13:11like going on an adventure like with my baby.
- 13:13So fans were like, Oh my God, this has to be a dig at Corey
- 13:18and Leah obviously having a baby, having their first baby is
- 13:21like the biggest milestone in their lives.
- 13:23So people were connecting those two and thinking that it was
- 13:27Charlie and her girlfriend being shady about their baby and the
- 13:29baby's name. They should have just moved on,
- 13:32OK? But they didn't.
- 13:33So Emily went on to stitch creators who were talking about
- 13:37this. And this made the situation
- 13:38worse because she was pretty savage.
- 13:41And you could hear Charlie in the background of some of these
- 13:43stitches. And she was also like
- 13:45participating in being a bit savage towards them.
- 13:47They made several response videos and it's.
- 13:50Very much like. You're throwing shade.
- 13:53Genuinely, this is just barbaric.
- 13:58Imagine you are a wannabe content creator.
- 14:01Like you want to do this for your job.
- 14:04You are really trying to make it somewhere.
- 14:07You are really clutching at straws to make your content go
- 14:12somewhere. And then you make this video in
- 14:16hopes, in hopes that it will get you somewhere.
- 14:20But where has it gotten you? Where is it going to get you so
- 14:29sinister? It's so.
- 14:33Sinister and I get it, OK, like we all need to touch grass.
- 14:37I do think that it was a reach from TikTok users and fans to be
- 14:41like, Oh my God, they're shading Corey and Leah and the baby.
- 14:44I do believe it is a bit of a reach, OK, But yeah,
- 14:46unfortunately they went a little too far in the responses.
- 14:49I think they've taken it overboard and it feels like now
- 14:51it's an overcorrection and people are like, OK, this
- 14:54obviously must have been then about the baby because you have
- 14:57just harped on this so much. I also think the other option
- 15:01here is that they are trying to repair their friendship, like
- 15:04Charlie might be trying to repair her friendship with Corey
- 15:06and Leah. And then to have the whole
- 15:08Internet trying to continually like dredge up this wedge
- 15:12between them and talk about them at such a sensitive time when
- 15:15they've had their first baby. Possibly that is also the
- 15:20motivation behind her continually trying to defend
- 15:22that this is not what happened and this is not what she meant.
- 15:25Because it would be very frustrating.
- 15:27Like, I do understand that side of it.
- 15:29And like I said, I do think it's a reach and I think we all need
- 15:31to touch grass. But I think you cannot respond
- 15:33like this. This is when things get even
- 15:35worse. And I'm talking about it now.
- 15:37And I would not have been talking about this if they did
- 15:39not make all of these response videos.
- 15:41OK. The last thing that I very
- 15:43briefly wanted to touch on. This is not like a real story,
- 15:45but I'm sure you guys have seen the viral conversation around
- 15:49the row sample sale. Like Mary Kate and Ashley's
- 15:52clothing line, very expensive luxurious clothing line.
- 15:55They had a sample sale and people were vlogging, lining up
- 15:58for like hours and hours to get up to 75% off the row.
- 16:01And now everyone's doing their halls.
- 16:03And what is going viral is discussion around the halls and
- 16:06how people are like, I can't believe that even up to 75% off
- 16:10people have spent still spent like 10s of thousands of dollars
- 16:13on like the most boring basic clothing.
- 16:15But I wanted to share my experience, OK, because I have
- 16:18actually bought a pair of pants from the row.
- 16:21I did not buy them full price. I didn't buy them directly from
- 16:24the seller, but I have a pair of pants from the Row.
- 16:26They were very expensive. And I was like, these are going
- 16:28to be my work pants. Like these are going to be my
- 16:30like very nice tailored perfect slacks that I can wear to good
- 16:36meetings and they will last me so long.
- 16:39And I've never had pants that are worse quality in my life and
- 16:46it shocks me. And I don't know if any of you
- 16:48guys have ever tried the row or bought the row but if you have
- 16:51please let me know because I was so shocked by the quality of
- 16:55these pants. They look good from like far
- 16:57away and they would look good in pictures, but when you're
- 16:59actually wearing them, you realize how many issues they
- 17:02have. And I would love to hear other
- 17:04people's experience with the Row because while I've been watching
- 17:07all of these videos of people criticizing the halls and
- 17:10talking about how like the Row is overpriced and like they
- 17:12don't get the hype, I'm like, yes, as somebody who owns pants
- 17:15from the Row, yes, I subscribe to that.
- 17:18I get it. All right, guys, Well, that's it
- 17:20for mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 17:23I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
- 17:25and subscribe, please Spotify star rate US.
- 17:28Annabelle will talk to you guys tomorrow.
- 17:29I also have a female founder interview going at the end of
- 17:32Annabelle's episode tomorrow. And then I will talk to you on
- 17:34Thursday for probably, I think the last episode in this office.
- 17:38OK, bye.
