- 0:00Speaker 1: I have here a letter that people perhaps would like
- 0:03Speaker 1: to hear me read.
- 0:04Speaker 2: You mean an email of interest, Yeah, an email of
- 0:10Speaker 2: interest Bill.
- 0:14Speaker 1: My name is Dave, another listener from Perry City. We
- 0:19Speaker 1: all have events in our lives that seem to happen
- 0:22Speaker 1: and remind us of how fortunate we are, and sometimes
- 0:26Speaker 1: we find that we are so close and yet so
- 0:29Speaker 1: far away. I listen via the podcast, and therefore I'm
- 0:33Speaker 1: sometimes a day or two behind, depending on how much
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am able to listen. Anyway, I found myself in Fargo,
- 0:40Speaker 1: North Dakota this week for work. Now that makes it
- 0:44Speaker 1: sound like I don't know how I got there. I
- 0:46Speaker 1: finished up for the day and found a park to
- 0:49Speaker 1: go run around and turn on the show. I like
- 0:53Speaker 1: you had been invested in hearing the outcome of the cartcher.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Mal polar Bear Ah.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That evening, as I you tease that you had, in
- 1:01Speaker 1: fact received a letter from Sketchy Blake about the polar Bear.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I listened during my run and returned to the hotel
- 1:08Speaker 1: to get to bed as I had a five am
- 1:10Speaker 1: flight the next morning. The next morning, I got on
- 1:12Speaker 1: my flight, and when I landed in Minneapolis, I had
- 1:16Speaker 1: a walk and sometime between my next flight home. So
- 1:19Speaker 1: I popped on the show and you started to read
- 1:21Speaker 1: the email from Sketchy Blake, and I soon realized that
- 1:24Speaker 1: the polar bear is in the Cabela was in Fargo,
- 1:27Speaker 1: North Dakota, where I had just come from.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Wow, i'd only ran.
- 1:32Speaker 1: If I had only run for ten more minutes, I
- 1:35Speaker 1: might have been able to get a picture of the
- 1:36Speaker 1: polar bear. I should have done two laps around the park,
- 1:40Speaker 1: albeit it was a pretty pretty large park. I'm sorry
- 1:43Speaker 1: I was lazy and I failed you. But anyway, there
- 1:48Speaker 1: might be a chance that I'll return to Fargo soon
- 1:51Speaker 1: and hopefully redeemed myself. But then it might not be
- 1:55Speaker 1: very topical by then. No, no, I've got a news
- 1:59Speaker 1: for you, Dave. It wasn't topical to begin with.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It's timeless. It's a timeless story of my youth.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I guess that that is how my life goes, sometimes
- 2:09Speaker 1: so close yet so far away. Thanks for letting me listen, Dave.
- 2:14Speaker 1: From the most ree of pair, Harry, it doesn't always work. Yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 1: another listener from Perry City.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So to backtrack, if you missed the story, I told
- 2:28Speaker 3: a story of my youth in Nampa, Idaho, and I
- 2:32Speaker 3: remembered going to Carter Mall, and the thing that I
- 2:35Speaker 3: remembered about it was there was a giant stuffed polar
- 2:39Speaker 3: Bear on display there and wondering what happened.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I The first thing I would have wondered is why
- 2:45Speaker 1: there was a giant stuff polar bear on display at
- 2:48Speaker 1: the Carture mall?
- 2:49Speaker 2: And who is this carture? I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I don't know, but I loved that Friends of the
- 2:56Speaker 3: Program and this show would never work outside of Utah, and.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yet that's what we have been.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And yet we have people listening all over the world
- 3:06Speaker 3: and so close yet so far away, and Fargo, well.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Uh, it's I I wish we'd I wish he had
- 3:14Speaker 1: been able to that would have been cool. But I
- 3:16Speaker 1: guess he has to go to Fargo for work occasionally.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Oh well, next time you're there.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think he'll he'll be able to maybe
- 3:22Speaker 1: go to the Cabella's and get a picture of the
- 3:25Speaker 1: polar bear.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Someone else might be listening in Fargo.
- 3:28Speaker 2: It could be I.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Suppose if you're listening in Fargo, North Dakota, North Dakota, Yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 1: North Dakota, Yeah, North Dakota. Right now, please give us
- 3:39Speaker 1: a call.
- 3:40Speaker 2: We're better. Yeah, just go to the Cabella's take a
- 3:42Speaker 2: picture of the polar bear. Polar Bear. It's got it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's got a dead baby seal next to it, which
- 3:48Speaker 2: I'm still baffled by. You know, it's not called Carture
- 3:52Speaker 2: mong anymore. Well, it's gone, isn't it. No, they renamed
- 3:57Speaker 2: the mall. No, the guy who.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Went there, uh he uh, he said, there's still they
- 4:05Speaker 1: there are some shops still there. It's called District two
- 4:08Speaker 1: eight formerly Cartuer Mall.
- 4:10Speaker 3: That's a terrible name. District to eight.
- 4:12Speaker 1: A shop, a shopping set. Well, I think maybe the
- 4:14Speaker 1: Carchers didn't want their name associated with it anymore.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Let's see what do they have?
- 4:19Speaker 1: They have a buttery food and drug, a Tempo Sprouse
- 4:24Speaker 1: rights and uh let's see. Yeah, that's about it. Joe
- 4:30Speaker 1: they have a Joe Anne. No, they don't, not any
- 4:32Speaker 1: nobody has the Big five sporting goods.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Uh.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Let's see. So here's the history of Carture Mall.
- 4:40Speaker 3: There's a whole history.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you can find the history of anything.
- 4:45Speaker 3: District to eight is a terrible name. That sounds like,
- 4:49Speaker 3: you know, future military base. District to eight.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Well, I think if you know, if you know anything
- 4:57Speaker 1: about modern day Nampa there.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Very dystopian.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, the Carture Wall. It featured two movie theaters at
- 5:08Speaker 1: one time, now none.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's seen better days.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Well, once they took the Polar Bear out, there's no
- 5:16Speaker 1: reason to go there.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Downhill from there band Marche
