- 1:01Speaker 1: some real dope shit on the way. You know. We
- 1:05Speaker 1: we've been typically doing one, trying to do once twice
- 1:08Speaker 1: a week, but there's just gonna be a lot more
- 1:10Speaker 1: shit coming and then you know, whether it's in interviews,
- 1:15Speaker 1: like you know, what we'll do usually is like we'll
- 1:17Speaker 1: drop an interview and then we'll have like two or
- 1:20Speaker 1: three in the can and we'll be like cool, We're
- 1:21Speaker 1: good for the month, but like we're realizing, like we're
- 1:25Speaker 1: racking up so many dope interviews that like why hold
- 1:27Speaker 1: on to them? You know what I'm saying. So, no
- 1:31Speaker 1: matter what, you're gonna get a new podcast every single week.

- 1:55Speaker 1: this is embarrassing. Man, it's my own shit. Oh Blast

- 2:02Speaker 1: Fredo Bang on Wednesday. Today's Friday, we got Reason Top
- 2:07Speaker 1: Dogs own Carson's Own. So let me tell you how
- 2:11Speaker 1: this interview went down. Man, we interviewed him earlier this week.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I listened to the whole album. His album dropped today
- 2:19Speaker 1: and it is a very very If you are a
- 2:22Speaker 1: hip hop fan, then you will love this album. There's
- 2:27Speaker 1: some incredibly deep records on here. The album is called
- 2:30Speaker 1: New Beginnings. I guess it's technically a mixtape project. Whatever.
- 2:33Speaker 1: He's not considering this his album, but it's like fourteen
- 2:36Speaker 1: goddamn songs, but reasons album New Beginnings is out. We
- 2:41Speaker 1: talked to him. I believe it's Monday or Tuesday, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: you know, I was like, look, let's drop this thing
- 2:48Speaker 1: the day your album drops, because we really dived into
- 2:51Speaker 1: this project. I'm already seeing, by the way, like he's
- 2:58Speaker 1: getting a lot of flak for the mac Miller and
- 3:00Speaker 1: when I heard it, I kind of knew that was
- 3:02Speaker 1: gonna happen. So we went in de bonk. No, just
- 3:05Speaker 1: just really good interview. Man. Probably one of my favorite interviews.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I say that a lot, but this is one of
- 3:10Speaker 1: my favorites that we've done since we started the podcast.

- 4:39Speaker 1: Uh yo, Reason is here man, one of the greatest.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Yeah, Man, last time you came to
- 4:46Speaker 1: the radio station and you did that freestyle for us,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I was out of town. I think it was. I
- 4:49Speaker 1: was in Hawaii. Yeah, yeah, so yo. But yo, man,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it's good to have you here. Bro. I've been sitting
- 4:56Speaker 1: with your album since you said it to me last night.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Incredible out of your work. Thank you,
- 5:01Speaker 1: thank you. There was like two songs on there that
- 5:03Speaker 1: we're back to back. It was fall and the song
- 5:07Speaker 1: after Fall down Slow Down. That was like, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: that's like my back to back, Like I was like, shit,
- 5:15Speaker 1: like just very very like introspective, like just great storytelling.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Like we'll get into those records, but I want to
- 5:21Speaker 1: I want to just kind of you know, you've been
- 5:23Speaker 1: dropping songs I feel like for the last year or so,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and they're all on this project, but not not everyone,
- 5:28Speaker 1: not everyone here exactly, but but like three or four
- 5:31Speaker 1: of them, yeah, like three or four of them talk
- 5:35Speaker 1: about where you're at right now and why is you know,
- 5:37Speaker 1: why are we finally getting you know, TD we having
- 5:40Speaker 1: to wait for motherfuckers on you know what I'm saying.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It's funny because it's like that's the mode. It's kind
- 5:45Speaker 1: of like not necessarily to make people wait, but just
- 5:47Speaker 1: to perfect hold on DJ heads calling me in the
- 5:49Speaker 1: middle of Hey, you know I'm doing an interview with you.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Why are you always interrupting my ship? Why are you
- 6:02Speaker 1: always interrupting my ship? Because this is life. I need
- 6:09Speaker 1: you to be on some put a shirt on ship.
- 6:10Speaker 1: That's what I need you to. Let me hit you
- 6:15Speaker 1: back after this, buddy. Anyway, I gotta answer DJ heads
- 6:22Speaker 1: like my wife, I got it like something could be
- 6:24Speaker 1: on fire right now. That's my dog. That's my dog.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But yeah, that's kind of been like the mode is
- 6:28Speaker 1: to just make sure that we perfect, you know what
- 6:30Speaker 1: I mean, quality over quantity. But I also feel like,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, the world being in the state that it
- 6:35Speaker 1: was in was kind of weird too. You know. We
- 6:37Speaker 1: were supposed to drop last year but just uh, you know,
- 6:41Speaker 1: trying to make sure that everything was right. And then
- 6:43Speaker 1: when we were gonna drop this earlier this year in March,
- 6:46Speaker 1: you know, COVID hit of course, and then we were
- 6:49Speaker 1: gonna drop again. When we finally understood like okay, like
- 6:51Speaker 1: let's just do it. You know, we're gonna go in June.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Then a lot of the black Black Lives Matter stuff
- 6:56Speaker 1: and people were passing, and we just felt like it
- 6:57Speaker 1: would be disrespectful to me pushing music at that. So
- 7:01Speaker 1: it was just like a lot of adjusting, you know
- 7:02Speaker 1: what I mean, in real life. And I feel like
- 7:03Speaker 1: people forget sometimes that because we're TD, that like we
- 7:06Speaker 1: got to adjust to like we don't just work on
- 7:08Speaker 1: our own, you know what I mean, merit or whatever
- 7:10Speaker 1: the case may be. So and we respect the things
- 7:12Speaker 1: that's going on, but I think we had a good
- 7:14Speaker 1: place now, like the whole label, you know what I mean.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And I'm proud to be the one to start kicking
- 7:17Speaker 1: it off. Give me some of your background, man, Like,
- 7:20Speaker 1: obviously you're from Carson. I had heard of you before
- 7:24Speaker 1: you were working with TD. You were you know, I
- 7:28Speaker 1: would say, like, you know, like if you were tapped
- 7:30Speaker 1: in with two Dope Boys and some of the blogs,
- 7:32Speaker 1: like you were familiar with what you were doing. And
- 7:34Speaker 1: then TDE became a part of the situation and that
- 7:36Speaker 1: just kind of made shit like super big. But how
- 7:39Speaker 1: long have you been making music? Man? Like, when did
- 7:41Speaker 1: you first start taking this rap shit series? I actually blessed,
- 7:44Speaker 1: blessed enough. I actually only been making music for six years,
- 7:47Speaker 1: so I started in twenty fourteen. Wow. Yeah, yeah, And
- 7:51Speaker 1: I've been heavy into music just because I liked it,
- 7:54Speaker 1: Like I just liked lyricists and rappers that, you know
- 7:57Speaker 1: what I mean, really rapped about stuff and whatnot. So
- 7:58Speaker 1: I was super heavy into that. And then I played
- 8:02Speaker 1: ball and I was supposed to go to Greece to
- 8:03Speaker 1: play basketball out there, and then one day I just
- 8:07Speaker 1: I just kind of fell out of love with it
- 8:08Speaker 1: on a business level because I was like, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I love basketball, but I don't really want to do
- 8:12Speaker 1: a business thing with it. And so I just called
- 8:14Speaker 1: my agent and I was just like, now I'm probably
- 8:16Speaker 1: not gonna go. And then where you was at and
- 8:18Speaker 1: that was like the beginning of twenty fourteen, so that
- 8:21Speaker 1: was like the beginning twenty fourteen. I was still in college.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So I called him told him that. And then there
- 8:27Speaker 1: was a part of me that like, and that's kind
- 8:29Speaker 1: of what new beginning symbolizes, and we'll get into that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But there was a part of me that I was
- 8:32Speaker 1: kind of scared to do that because basketball was my comfort.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I knew that I can go make money playing basketball,
- 8:37Speaker 1: Like I knew that like anything else I can do,
- 8:39Speaker 1: I can rent, there's anything else I can do. I
- 8:42Speaker 1: can go play basketball and make some money. And I
- 8:44Speaker 1: was like, do I really want to give up this
- 8:45Speaker 1: comfort you know what I'm saying, in this comfort zone
- 8:47Speaker 1: or whatever, to do something else and potentially fail, you
- 8:51Speaker 1: know what I mean. And so I ended up making
- 8:53Speaker 1: a decision. And even after I told him, I still
- 8:56Speaker 1: was kind of like fifty to fifty. I called him
- 8:57Speaker 1: some days and be like, well, wait, hold on. Then
- 9:00Speaker 1: when I graduated and I wrote a song called Letter
- 9:03Speaker 1: to God, which is like my second song that I wrote,
- 9:05Speaker 1: and I sent it to my brother and we listened
- 9:07Speaker 1: to it, and after that that was that song kind
- 9:09Speaker 1: of got me over the fear. I was like, I'm
- 9:11Speaker 1: I think I'm really good at this ship. Let me
- 9:14Speaker 1: just try it. Yeah, exactly. So where did you go to?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Where did you play basketball? Is that a D two
- 9:20Speaker 1: called Northwestern State in Iowa. There's like a swarm of
- 9:24Speaker 1: Northwestern's in the Midwest. It's like Northwestern, Oklahoma, Northwestern. I
- 9:28Speaker 1: feel like there's a million Northwestern. There's a bunch of Northwestern. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 1: it's like this little like weird yeah, middle of nowhere.
- 9:33Speaker 1: It was awful. So were you at a point guard?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Because I'm not tall enough to you? Yeah, be anything else?
- 9:39Speaker 1: One hundred Yeah. I mean it's it's crazy because I
- 9:42Speaker 1: like that basketball hustle, like you said, like going to
- 9:44Speaker 1: Greece like I got. I got some homies who live
- 9:47Speaker 1: in Europe and who hoop and like you said, like
- 9:49Speaker 1: it's like, you know, if you love basketball and you're like,
- 9:54Speaker 1: like you're good, Like there's always like always a place
- 9:57Speaker 1: to make me. Now you're rent, there's always a way
- 9:59Speaker 1: to make money. And if you could pay your rent
- 10:01Speaker 1: playing basketball, bro, it's like and that was my thing.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm like, like I'm seeing all my homies, like you know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: work jobs and stuff, and they hate their job, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm like, like, even though I might not like where
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm at over there, at least I like my job,
- 10:13Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying, and I can pay
- 10:14Speaker 1: my rent doing it or whatever the case may be.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But I had just had two nieces and I was
- 10:18Speaker 1: in Iowa for two years and I wanted to come
- 10:20Speaker 1: back home. I went through like a little racial situation
- 10:22Speaker 1: out there with my coach, and it was just like
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was just like, you know, I don't know if
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'm ready to leave again, you know what I mean.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And so that was kind of like part of the
- 10:31Speaker 1: influence behind it was I don't know if I'm ready
- 10:33Speaker 1: to leave. And then on top of that, I was
- 10:36Speaker 1: using music as as like therapy. Like I was writing
- 10:39Speaker 1: out there just to kind of pass the time. Because
- 10:41Speaker 1: I was out there, it was only me and like
- 10:43Speaker 1: six other black people at the school, so I didn't
- 10:44Speaker 1: really have nobody year. I didn't really have nobody to
- 10:46Speaker 1: talk to relate to. So I was just kind of
- 10:48Speaker 1: writing as kind of like a therapeutical thing, and I
- 10:50Speaker 1: started liking it. So I was like, man, let me
- 10:53Speaker 1: just you know, record a couple things. So I came
- 10:54Speaker 1: home on spring break and recorded a couple of records,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and that's kind of when I decided, like, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm just gonna do this and see how works out.
- 11:00Speaker 1: When you say you had a racial situation with your coach,
- 11:02Speaker 1: what happened. Basically, I had a coach that I mean,
- 11:06Speaker 1: he was racist to to you know, keep it keep yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 1: to keep it funky. We used to have it was
- 11:10Speaker 1: me and three other black players. We used to have
- 11:12Speaker 1: black only meetings before the games that you guys conducted
- 11:16Speaker 1: or that they He would be like, I just want
- 11:18Speaker 1: to meet with the three black guys and talk to
- 11:20Speaker 1: them about how they need to play to fit into
- 11:23Speaker 1: like this role. Like and then he would like say
- 11:26Speaker 1: the N word to us, like metaphorically, like so not
- 11:29Speaker 1: at us, but he's still saying it. Right. One time
- 11:32Speaker 1: he used this example where he was like, you know,
- 11:33Speaker 1: he was like, white people are the brain, Black people
- 11:36Speaker 1: are the soul. Mexicans are the heart because you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: they work hard and you know, make everything go. He
- 11:42Speaker 1: was like, when you put all three of them together,
- 11:43Speaker 1: it's a beautiful thing. But if you had to pick one,
- 11:45Speaker 1: wouldn't you rather be the brain like that? Like, well,
- 11:48Speaker 1: to be honest, if he wanted to use that reference,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I would argue that Asian, Yeah, And I would also
- 11:56Speaker 1: argue that, you know, the heart's kind of just as
- 11:59Speaker 1: important as you know, white people might be like the
- 12:02Speaker 1: kneecapps or something. I don't know. I feel like we're
- 12:06Speaker 1: not bringing a lot to the table at twenty twenty,
- 12:08Speaker 1: not in twenty twenty. Right now, shit's fucked up, man
- 12:11Speaker 1: A thousand cent. So yeah, Like I went through that situation,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and it's funny even with that situation, like the NAACP
- 12:17Speaker 1: was getting involved and stuff, and it was about to
- 12:18Speaker 1: be big, and I was younger, and so if I
- 12:22Speaker 1: had my brain that I had now, I would have
- 12:23Speaker 1: carried it all the way through and went because I
- 12:26Speaker 1: feel like I could have changed some things over. It's
- 12:28Speaker 1: an intimidating fight for a yeah. Yeah, Like when I
- 12:30Speaker 1: was in I was just like, bro, I just want
- 12:31Speaker 1: to go home. Bro, Like, if y'all can make it
- 12:34Speaker 1: to where I can go home after the season and
- 12:36Speaker 1: just like work, do my school work from home and
- 12:38Speaker 1: come back to graduate and leave again, then like we
- 12:41Speaker 1: got a deal. And my mom didn't want me to
- 12:43Speaker 1: do that. She wanted me to stay and fight, but
- 12:45Speaker 1: I just ended up saying like, you know, like I
- 12:47Speaker 1: just want to come home. So that's what they let
- 12:48Speaker 1: me do. After the season was over, I went home,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I worked from home, did all my school work from
- 12:52Speaker 1: home since it Then they kind of just passed me
- 12:53Speaker 1: because they were just like like we don't want to
- 12:55Speaker 1: get yeah, we don't want no smoke like so I
- 12:57Speaker 1: was kind of just turning in whatever guy's still coaching
- 12:59Speaker 1: he is Unfortunately there is Unfortunately yeah Fuyeah, And if
- 13:03Speaker 1: you've been to that town, it's like it's one of
- 13:05Speaker 1: those places that it's like, bro, nothing that never changed
- 13:07Speaker 1: here because there's nothing there, Like there's nothing there to
- 13:09Speaker 1: make it. You get what I'm saying, like change, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: that's the reason why that is one regret that I
- 13:13Speaker 1: do have. I hate having regrets in life. But if
- 13:16Speaker 1: I could go back, I would fight that, you know
- 13:17Speaker 1: what I mean, because he doesn't need to be culching,
- 13:19Speaker 1: like just to be completely Hey, put his name out
- 13:21Speaker 1: there so people can you know, I honestly legally can't.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Oh you legally can't. Well, the coach of yeah, Northwestern Iowa,
- 13:28Speaker 1: U cocksucker. It's not hard to find though, Like people
- 13:31Speaker 1: can look at fine. Yeah, people can look in fine
- 13:33Speaker 1: with college y'all went to for sure for sure. But yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 1: it's unfortunate. Yeah, it's crazy and just really quick. The
- 13:39Speaker 1: crazy thing about it is that so he has a
- 13:42Speaker 1: nephew that's in the NBA right now that is complete opposite,
- 13:46Speaker 1: like he does like podcasts and stuff about racial discrimination
- 13:50Speaker 1: against black white and a white guy JJ Redick. I
- 13:54Speaker 1: told you, I can't. I can't say what it is,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but like it's crazy the opposite though, like he is,
- 13:58Speaker 1: like his nephew is like hard working fighting against like
- 14:03Speaker 1: racial discrimination. We'll talk about it. I listened to JJ
- 14:05Speaker 1: Red's podcast. He has he actually does have a great podcast.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I just got hip to it like recently. Yeah that's dope. Man. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: I'm a huge basketball guy, so I actually don't listen
- 14:13Speaker 1: to as much. Man. It sucks because I listened to
- 14:17Speaker 1: like certain ship, like I like gravitate to an album
- 14:20Speaker 1: and then I'm just stuck with it, like I'm still
- 14:23Speaker 1: listening to fucking like Freddie Gives an Alchemist Alfredo, which
- 14:27Speaker 1: was incredible tough for sure, but and then like outside
- 14:30Speaker 1: of that, I'm just I'm just listening to sports talk
- 14:33Speaker 1: radio like a degenerate sports gambler. But yeah, man, that's
- 14:38Speaker 1: that's wild. I didn't know that about you, bro, Yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: you know it was. It was a crazy situation, you
- 14:42Speaker 1: know what I mean. And it's, uh, it's weird because
- 14:45Speaker 1: like when I write music, I never know what I'm
- 14:47Speaker 1: gonna touch on. So I feel like one day it's
- 14:48Speaker 1: something that I'm going to touch on, but I never
- 14:50Speaker 1: come into songs like purposely, and so I'm just like
- 14:53Speaker 1: one day it'll come spilling out and not talk about it,
- 14:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So yeah, yeah, no, that's wild.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think that I think that's some or too for
- 15:00Speaker 1: you to share that because I'm sure there's people who
- 15:02Speaker 1: are going through maybe similar situations. Maybe not on a
- 15:04Speaker 1: basketball team, but yeah, like whether it's their boss or
- 15:07Speaker 1: corporate environments anything. Yeah. Man, it's just fucked up right now,
- 15:10Speaker 1: like and get people got to stand up for what's right. Bro.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean, but I will say in twenty twenty,
- 15:18Speaker 1: because of how chaotic it is, like there always has
- 15:21Speaker 1: to be balanced, and I feel like like there's more
- 15:24Speaker 1: than ever, more white people than ever that's trying to understand.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And I always tell black people in general, like, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: don't criticize white people that are trying to understand that
- 15:33Speaker 1: maybe don't understand it, because that's step one. You know
- 15:35Speaker 1: what I'm saying, is them trying to the understand it.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I think that what sucks about right now is like
- 15:38Speaker 1: kind of what you just said, Like if there's no
- 15:43Speaker 1: nuance and there's no room for progress and if it's
- 15:47Speaker 1: like a yo, fuck you off the rip because you're
- 15:51Speaker 1: not exactly where I want you to be as opposed
- 15:53Speaker 1: to like you're trying, you're trying, you know, Like you
- 15:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I think that that's there's two
- 15:59Speaker 1: opposite ends up the spectrum, and I think that's the
- 16:01Speaker 1: other opposite end of the spectrum where it's like, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: there's people who, like you said, like they might not
- 16:07Speaker 1: have known about I mean, and what's craziest, Yeah, it's crazy,
- 16:10Speaker 1: But it's like you have to understand that people's reality
- 16:12Speaker 1: are their reality. Like some people genuinely are unaware, like yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 1: this stuff was going on, but they didn't know what
- 16:18Speaker 1: they didn't know. They didn't know that it was like
- 16:20Speaker 1: and I tell people all the time, like you got
- 16:22Speaker 1: to be understanding bro to people people's environments, like you
- 16:25Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like there's people out there that
- 16:27Speaker 1: they have nothing against black people, but they literally might
- 16:30Speaker 1: not have a black person in their life. There might
- 16:33Speaker 1: be people who just don't grow up like in that environment.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Like there's people who grow up in fucking Salt Lake
- 16:38Speaker 1: City and all they know is like white Mormon kids,
- 16:40Speaker 1: you know, because you know, and if they're trying to
- 16:43Speaker 1: be empathetic, I just think that they're we're losing like
- 16:45Speaker 1: a lot of nuance in the world where it's like
- 16:47Speaker 1: you're either this or you're this. Yeah, but what if
- 16:50Speaker 1: you're like here or here, like you know what I'm saying,
- 16:52Speaker 1: You're trying to get here, you know what I'm saying.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think even politically, it's just fucked up because I
- 16:57Speaker 1: feel like you can't, like I can criticize Joe Biden
- 17:01Speaker 1: and still say I'm voting for Joe Biden, you know
- 17:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like I I don't fuck with Joe
- 17:07Speaker 1: Biden really, but I'm not voting for Donald Trump exactly,
- 17:10Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying. But I can let
- 17:12Speaker 1: like there's like nuance, like you got to be able
- 17:14Speaker 1: to like, you know, ask questions and be critical and
- 17:19Speaker 1: just because you're critical doesn't mean like you ain't you
- 17:22Speaker 1: ain't for whatever the fuck you know what I'm saying
- 17:24Speaker 1: exactly what the issue is that we're in an environment
- 17:26Speaker 1: right now where it's like everybody jumps out the window
- 17:29Speaker 1: for everything. Like it's like you can't be you can't
- 17:32Speaker 1: even have a conversation about something. It's like you got
- 17:34Speaker 1: to pick, you know what I'm saying, Like you have
- 17:36Speaker 1: to pick what it is right now, and if you
- 17:38Speaker 1: don't and you even play defense, then it's like, you know,
- 17:41Speaker 1: then they're just gonna label you like okay, well then
- 17:43Speaker 1: you're over here, you know what I'm saying. And so yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 1: like I was like a big Bernie Sanders supporter and
- 17:49Speaker 1: and I have people like dig up tweets I said
- 17:51Speaker 1: about Joe Biden like Yo, man, you fucking you don't
- 17:53Speaker 1: even fuck with this. I'm like yeah, like obviously I'm
- 17:56Speaker 1: not like crazy about Joe Biden, Like he's probably the
- 17:59Speaker 1: least candidate on that side that I would lock out.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But you know what the other side is terrible fucking hitler,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know, like the worst possible shit in the world,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Like I would vote for like any more, like literally
- 18:14Speaker 1: anyone else, Like it could be George W. Bush, Like
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'm running the g dub vote, you know what I'm saying,
- 18:20Speaker 1: Like fucking run I rack back. Joe Biden would have
- 18:23Speaker 1: to personally put out an attack on my family for
- 18:25Speaker 1: me to Joe Biden would have to put out like
- 18:27Speaker 1: an entire like this album, like just dissing every race, ethnicity,
- 18:31Speaker 1: sexual Come on, bro, Like it's crazy. Nah that that's
- 18:36Speaker 1: dope though. Man. So the fact you didn't start making
- 18:40Speaker 1: music till twenty fourteen, Now, were you writing before that
- 18:44Speaker 1: or was it something that like it was like I
- 18:47Speaker 1: wasn't really writing. I have some homeboys that rapped, and
- 18:50Speaker 1: I would like like kind of be with them in
- 18:52Speaker 1: the studio just on some kicking and shit, and I
- 18:54Speaker 1: would kind of like be like, oh, you know, you
- 18:55Speaker 1: should say this, you should say that. I used to
- 18:57Speaker 1: always tell me like you kind of like you kind
- 18:59Speaker 1: of tight like words and shit like that, you know
- 19:01Speaker 1: what I mean. But it was never something that I
- 19:03Speaker 1: was taking in any type of way, recording and nothing
- 19:06Speaker 1: like that, just because when I when I focus on
- 19:08Speaker 1: something and this is a good thing and a flaw,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm like tunnel vision when I focus on shit. So
- 19:13Speaker 1: I can't do basketball and music. I can't do music
- 19:17Speaker 1: and something else, you know what I'm saying. Like it's
- 19:19Speaker 1: like I have to focus on one thing, and you
- 19:21Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like that's just kind of how
- 19:22Speaker 1: I am. So I wasn't able to really do it
- 19:25Speaker 1: until basketball was off the table, you know what I mean.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And so and it shows that way. But I've been
- 19:31Speaker 1: blessed because things have just kind of worked very fast,
- 19:34Speaker 1: you know, in comparison to other people that happen. I mean,
- 19:36Speaker 1: you're one of the Jedis man, Like, you're one of
- 19:40Speaker 1: those guys. It's like you know what you're getting with reason,
- 19:42Speaker 1: you know, that's that's love and that's that's I mean,
- 19:46Speaker 1: six years is not a long time man, especially in
- 19:48Speaker 1: hip hop, Like the people have been doing this shit
- 19:49Speaker 1: for twenty years before we you know, we know who
- 19:52Speaker 1: they are, you know what I'm saying. That's wow. So
- 19:56Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, you start making music, you leave the basketball
- 19:58Speaker 1: shit alone. Yeah, what was the in your opinion, the
- 20:03Speaker 1: moment that you realized there were some eyes on you
- 20:09Speaker 1: that like, Okay, this is this actually really might work. Yeah. Yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I remember I was doing this thing called Reason Fridays
- 20:15Speaker 1: where I just like freestyle every Friday, and I was
- 20:17Speaker 1: putting it out and it was leading it was actually
- 20:19Speaker 1: leading up to there you have it. So I dropped
- 20:22Speaker 1: like ten of them, like ten weeks in a row
- 20:24Speaker 1: leading up to the drop of that project, and like
- 20:26Speaker 1: around the eighth one, things just kind of started picking up.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Like first I got posted by like a couple of
- 20:32Speaker 1: professional athletes that Brandon Jenning shout out to him. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: he looked out Todd Gurley. It was a couple of dudes.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And then then Baller Alert posted me, and then after
- 20:42Speaker 1: that like a few like low level label reps started
- 20:44Speaker 1: reaching out and we had a couple of meetings. So
- 20:46Speaker 1: that's kind of what I realized that some eyes were
- 20:48Speaker 1: on me. But then I started talking to a dude
- 20:50Speaker 1: named Tubby. Sean Holladay shout out to Tubby. He was
- 20:53Speaker 1: like the first high level executive. He was the VP
- 20:56Speaker 1: of A and rs AT I want to say Sony time.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And he brought me into his office and played him
- 21:03Speaker 1: a bunch of records. I played him Better Days, and
- 21:06Speaker 1: after Better Days, he was like, if you can get
- 21:09Speaker 1: me like six more of these, like then like you know,
- 21:11Speaker 1: we can we can go. But things never kind of
- 21:14Speaker 1: progressed just because you know, labels And this is no
- 21:17Speaker 1: offense to Tubby at all. Like I love Tubby because
- 21:19Speaker 1: he was actually one of the first people to like
- 21:20Speaker 1: start talking to people about me. But labels, the big labels,
- 21:25Speaker 1: they don't really want to develop artists. They kind of
- 21:27Speaker 1: want to keep an eye on you until you kind
- 21:29Speaker 1: of start bubbling, you know what I mean. They want
- 21:31Speaker 1: all the ground where they come in and they put
- 21:34Speaker 1: exactly you get what I'm saying, like, and so you know,
- 21:36Speaker 1: that was kind of where Tubby was. He was like,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know, like I just want him to kind of
- 21:39Speaker 1: get cracking first, you know what I mean. And what's
- 21:41Speaker 1: crazy is that Tubby sent my music to top and
- 21:44Speaker 1: he wanted to do a joint deal with Top because
- 21:46Speaker 1: he was like, you know, I'm not gonna get him cracking,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but I know Top can get him cracking, and he
- 21:50Speaker 1: wants to do a joint deal with Top, but Top
- 21:52Speaker 1: doesn't two joint deals. So Top never even listened to
- 21:55Speaker 1: my ship. Like he was just like as soon as
- 21:57Speaker 1: Tubby started talking about a joint deal, he was just like, well,
- 21:59Speaker 1: you know, I'm not interested. And then when I met
- 22:02Speaker 1: Top years later, Top Diggs and his emails and it's
- 22:05Speaker 1: the same songs that I'm playing them in the studio.
- 22:07Speaker 1: He like, wow, like this ship has really hit the
- 22:08Speaker 1: unopened email. Like, yeah, I think that that is one
- 22:11Speaker 1: dope thing about TD, you know, is the the development process.
- 22:19Speaker 1: You know, like they there's a dope young MC who
- 22:23Speaker 1: you guys have under your roster that I've known for
- 22:25Speaker 1: a long time. He's wearing the chain. I don't know
- 22:29Speaker 1: if it's official, so I'm not gonna say his name,
- 22:31Speaker 1: but like, I mean, he's been on the label about
- 22:33Speaker 1: a year and like just working, yeah, yeah, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: working on his craft and they got he showed me
- 22:39Speaker 1: some videos that y'all shot, and like, you know, it's
- 22:42Speaker 1: like that kind of like attention to detail and like
- 22:46Speaker 1: you know that ship is as a fan, it could
- 22:50Speaker 1: be frustrating, yeah, from the fans perspectives, because I'm like,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I need a fucking Isaaver shot album? Bro. By the way,
- 22:56Speaker 1: glad he's on the album, but but no, just in general,
- 22:59Speaker 1: I just think that that's something then that's that's that's
- 23:01Speaker 1: missing from the game and the process now because like
- 23:04Speaker 1: you know, like you said, man, these labels low key
- 23:06Speaker 1: are kind of holing everybody man because they want you
- 23:09Speaker 1: to do everything. Yeah. Yeah, and then once it gets
- 23:12Speaker 1: to a certain point. Now obviously once the label comes involved,
- 23:15Speaker 1: like there are looks and radio play, you know, there's
- 23:18Speaker 1: things that that that they can offer that people still can't. Right,
- 23:21Speaker 1: There's there are still some things. But like if you're like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, I would just say most artists just keep grinding,
- 23:29Speaker 1: grind a little longer, build up, build up your uh
- 23:32Speaker 1: you know, your your uh, your leverage with these fools
- 23:37Speaker 1: a thousand percent. Like I tell people that all the time, Like,
- 23:39Speaker 1: if you if you don't have a sitution, like sign
- 23:43Speaker 1: up with a major label. To me, in this day
- 23:45Speaker 1: and age, it's just not smart. Now if you're gonna
- 23:47Speaker 1: sign with like a uh, well, when you don't have
- 23:49Speaker 1: the leverage if you because you're gonna get a really
- 23:52Speaker 1: bad deal. You're gonna get a really bad deal regardless,
- 23:54Speaker 1: there's nothing. You don't matter how talented you are, you
- 23:56Speaker 1: could be Michael Jackson, You're gonna get a really really
- 23:57Speaker 1: bad deal. So to me, as smart, the sign with
- 24:00Speaker 1: like some of these lower management companies and stuff like that,
- 24:03Speaker 1: like shout out to lvr N, they're doing an incredible job.
- 24:05Speaker 1: They're killing it. Yeah, you know what I mean, they're
- 24:06Speaker 1: killing it. You know, the tds, the Dreamvilles, whoever it is.
- 24:10Speaker 1: You know a lot of people look at TD A
- 24:12Speaker 1: is a major and we're not, you know what I mean,
- 24:13Speaker 1: we're independently. Yeah. No, That's why I've been trying to
- 24:15Speaker 1: tell people. It's like, Yo, if you're on TD, that
- 24:16Speaker 1: doesn't mean you're like Scope. You know what I'm saying, Like, yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 1: so you're just strictly TD, just strictly TD. So exactly,
- 24:23Speaker 1: and the same thing with me, like we're trying to
- 24:25Speaker 1: build up leverage that way, when we do take it
- 24:26Speaker 1: to a major, we get the deal that we want,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you know what I mean, we get the situation we
- 24:29Speaker 1: want which top is top. He can get whatever he wants.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's it's mo organic to
- 24:34Speaker 1: be able to build that up and show your value first,
- 24:37Speaker 1: you know what I mean When you first became involved
- 24:39Speaker 1: with TD, like I feel like, what's dope about a
- 24:45Speaker 1: brand like TD? A brand like Dreamville is like their
- 24:49Speaker 1: fans are so open, like open armed, like yeah, you're
- 24:52Speaker 1: one of us now, yeah, so you automatically step into
- 24:56Speaker 1: like to like twenty thousand die hard right like did
- 25:02Speaker 1: you see that right away? Like two one thousand percent?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Like TD fans are like the they're the dopest, most
- 25:07Speaker 1: crit overly critical in the world smart hip hop. They're
- 25:11Speaker 1: smart hip hop fans and sometimes almost too smart, Like
- 25:14Speaker 1: when I because I talked to a lot of my
- 25:15Speaker 1: fans sometimes to a fart, like my managers tell me, like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know, I gotta be more ducckt off, But but
- 25:21Speaker 1: I talked to them because I am a fan too
- 25:23Speaker 1: and I want to know how they feel. But sometimes
- 25:26Speaker 1: I tell them, I'm like, yo, y'all listen to music
- 25:27Speaker 1: sometimes and don't enjoy it, like because you're too busy
- 25:31Speaker 1: like being critical or trying to decode what it is,
- 25:33Speaker 1: like you're not even like like like roller Blunt. Yeah, listen,
- 25:39Speaker 1: it's music, you know, I mean, it's entertainment. But nah,
- 25:41Speaker 1: shout out to all the TV fans and the Dream
- 25:43Speaker 1: Beale fans. I went tour with G I D And
- 25:45Speaker 1: realize that a lot of them cross over, you know
- 25:47Speaker 1: what I mean, like a lot of them do they
- 25:48Speaker 1: definitely love both of us? Yeah, what was what was
- 25:53Speaker 1: the record that caught tops attention? Do you remember like
- 25:56Speaker 1: which record or what it was that like, yeah that
- 25:59Speaker 1: got you that meeting with Top? Yeah, well better Days
- 26:01Speaker 1: is the one that really really caught tops attention. But
- 26:04Speaker 1: the one that made Top feel like, Yo, like this
- 26:06Speaker 1: dude can like make records because that's Top's big thing
- 26:09Speaker 1: right now. It's like, yeah, you can wrap it, can
- 26:10Speaker 1: you make me? Can you make records? Exactly? And it
- 26:12Speaker 1: was on there you have It. It It was called fuck
- 26:13Speaker 1: with Me, And when he heard that record, he was
- 26:15Speaker 1: like yo, like yeah, this dude, he can go you
- 26:17Speaker 1: know what I mean. And it wasn't even we weren't
- 26:19Speaker 1: even supposed to sign like Moosa was taking me to him.
- 26:22Speaker 1: We were actually supposed to be doing something with Dave Gross.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Shout out to Dave Gross. He do a lot of
- 26:26Speaker 1: stuff with Nip, and we were supposed to be doing
- 26:28Speaker 1: like a little partnership deal with Dave and Dave shows
- 26:30Speaker 1: a lot of love and he was gonna help me
- 26:31Speaker 1: build up a little bit. And then the plan was
- 26:33Speaker 1: to go to Top, and Moose kept listening to the
- 26:36Speaker 1: music that I had, and without me even saying so,
- 26:38Speaker 1: he just took it to Top. And then Top was like,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know, like let's sit down and have a meeting.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And I was playing music for like an hour, Tops
- 26:44Speaker 1: not bobbing his head or nothing, like they're not giving
- 26:46Speaker 1: me nothing like he's showing Moose memes and shit, I'm
- 26:48Speaker 1: like some most disrespectful me. That's the worst when you're
- 26:51Speaker 1: playing someone music and they're on their out of my
- 26:54Speaker 1: eye trying to like see if he's fucking with it,
- 26:56Speaker 1: like he's just not. And then fuck with me played
- 26:59Speaker 1: and that was the first time that he kind of
- 27:00Speaker 1: like put his phone down and start bobbing his head.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And so I leave the meeting. I'm low key like depressed.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I'm like that shit did not go well. And Most
- 27:06Speaker 1: tells me, he like, no, you gotta understand, my pops,
- 27:08Speaker 1: Like if he didn't like it, you would you wouldn't
- 27:09Speaker 1: have been here for a hour, like he don't. He
- 27:11Speaker 1: don't do that, you know what I mean. He was like, so,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you know, he was like a deal might not happen
- 27:15Speaker 1: today or next month or whatever, but you know, like
- 27:17Speaker 1: let's just keep working and go back to Dave and
- 27:18Speaker 1: Recoop and we'll come back. And then like three days later,
- 27:22Speaker 1: Mos called me. He was like, I think my pop's
- 27:24Speaker 1: gonna sign you, and I was just like, what the fuck,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Like this is crazy, you know what I mean. And
- 27:28Speaker 1: so it happened way faster than I thought. And you know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: that was also part of the reason why I feel
- 27:33Speaker 1: like it took a little longer for me to drop
- 27:36Speaker 1: some stuff after I signed, because me and Top still
- 27:38Speaker 1: had to get to know each other as people, you
- 27:40Speaker 1: get what I'm saying, Because it's such a people label,
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah for sure. Yeah, so we had to still build that,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But it's a family business.
- 27:47Speaker 1: People forget that, Like, yeah, yeah, it's a family business.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Like Top, will I sign you if he don't, if
- 27:51Speaker 1: he don't personally fuck with you, he'll just take you
- 27:53Speaker 1: and get you signed somewhere else and get a piece
- 27:55Speaker 1: of contract like yeah, sh exactly and everything. No, that's crazy. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I think that, uh, you know, it's been dope to
- 28:03Speaker 1: see your development because you've been dope for so long.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And I think that your I feel like this album
- 28:11Speaker 1: is like you're coming out party, if that makes sense. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 1: that's how That's how I approached it too. There's so
- 28:16Speaker 1: many things happened over the last couple of years, Like,
- 28:19Speaker 1: you know, I think that that Lambeau Truck record was
- 28:21Speaker 1: so fucking special. On that Dreamville album obviously, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 1: like you said, you went on tour with with j
- 28:27Speaker 1: I D. And like, you know, you've been just kind
- 28:29Speaker 1: of like it's been like a tumbleweed, just accumulating more
- 28:33Speaker 1: and more like momentum. And I think that, you know,
- 28:35Speaker 1: now's the time talk about the album, man, because there's
- 28:38Speaker 1: a lot of personal shit on the album. There's a
- 28:40Speaker 1: lot of moments on the project that were like like
- 28:43Speaker 1: oh fuck, moments like damn, this shit is like crazy,
- 28:46Speaker 1: like thank you? How did you approach this shit? Did
- 28:50Speaker 1: you approach it kind of like, you know, because you
- 28:54Speaker 1: didn't tell all your story obviously, yeah. Yeah, and I
- 28:56Speaker 1: didn't even completely dive all the way into it. It's
- 28:58Speaker 1: funny some of the more person ones. We're records that
- 29:02Speaker 1: were supposed to be on my debut album that I'm
- 29:04Speaker 1: working on right now. So I consider this like a project.
- 29:06Speaker 1: So this is like a mixtape. It's like a mixtape
- 29:08Speaker 1: kind of and what I consider it's funny because I
- 29:11Speaker 1: hate when artists do that, but now I'm that guy,
- 29:14Speaker 1: that guy. I'm definitely that guy. But yeah, it's kind
- 29:16Speaker 1: of like a mixtape or a project or a collection
- 29:18Speaker 1: of songs. And it's funny because when we made it,
- 29:20Speaker 1: we were like, damn, we need some shit for like
- 29:23Speaker 1: the core fans, like cause it's not personal enough, you
- 29:25Speaker 1: know what I mean. And that's kind of when we added,
- 29:27Speaker 1: uh the slow downs and the gossips and the falls
- 29:31Speaker 1: and then Windows Crow didn't get added until Top called
- 29:35Speaker 1: and wanted to add it, which is crazy because of
- 29:37Speaker 1: the content on there. But Top called and was like, nah,
- 29:40Speaker 1: that should be the outro. So that's kind of how
- 29:41Speaker 1: we put it together. But I approached it from a celebratory,
- 29:44Speaker 1: like stant like like point of view, because there you have.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It dropped originally in twenty sixteen, and so I got
- 29:50Speaker 1: a bunch of Day one fans that's been riding with me.
- 29:52Speaker 1: And they see me, they see me get signed and
- 29:54Speaker 1: we redropped. There you have it, and they're like, yay,
- 29:56Speaker 1: that's great for you, but like, where's the where's the
- 29:58Speaker 1: new music? We've been We've been heart this shit, And
- 30:00Speaker 1: so I wanted to give them something that I felt
- 30:04Speaker 1: like they would want to hear. So I approach it
- 30:05Speaker 1: like I'm not even a feature heavy type of artist,
- 30:08Speaker 1: but I was like, okay, you know what do I
- 30:10Speaker 1: want to hear as a fan? You know what I mean?
- 30:11Speaker 1: I always want to hear zamg In on a record together,
- 30:14Speaker 1: like let me go do that, you know what I mean?
- 30:16Speaker 1: Rap City for the rap heads is like fire fire,
- 30:18Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, she went crazy. It's
- 30:21Speaker 1: my favorite feature on the shit. So when it did that,
- 30:23Speaker 1: I was like, you know, let me take care of home,
- 30:24Speaker 1: let me bring soul out the cave. So we did
- 30:26Speaker 1: trapped In, we did Flick it Up. Trapped In didn't
- 30:28Speaker 1: make it, but Flick it Up of course made it.
- 30:29Speaker 1: So I approach it from that standpoint, like from a
- 30:31Speaker 1: fan standpoint, and let's make fun records, Let's make you
- 30:35Speaker 1: know what I mean, Let's get dope features, let's get
- 30:37Speaker 1: shited like that. Dope production, and then we came back
- 30:40Speaker 1: and at it the personal elements, and so that's kind
- 30:42Speaker 1: of how I attacked it from putting it together as
- 30:44Speaker 1: a whole project. Yeah, on the album Falls, a record
- 30:48Speaker 1: that I thought was really dope, because you know, the
- 30:50Speaker 1: first verse is you wrapping from the perspective of like
- 30:52Speaker 1: an upcoming female artist who you know, And I do
- 30:56Speaker 1: think that that's something that's kind of unsett in music.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Like I even think, like when we think of female mcs,
- 31:03Speaker 1: like I think, like, and it's unfortunate, like Rhap City's
- 31:08Speaker 1: on the album, and rhap City, to me is the
- 31:10Speaker 1: best to me female and one of the best overall overall.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Like I think she's like top five at very very minimum,
- 31:18Speaker 1: top ten MC's period. No, No, she's like, yeah, she's
- 31:22Speaker 1: up there, but like as a female, she's like that,
- 31:24Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, she's But I feel like it sucks
- 31:27Speaker 1: because she's not overly sexualized. People don't give her that respect.
- 31:31Speaker 1: And that's not like I give her that respect, but
- 31:34Speaker 1: I feel like because she's not an overly sexualized female artist,
- 31:39Speaker 1: she doesn't get the respect that she deserves. And that's
- 31:42Speaker 1: just kind of like the world we're fucking in like
- 31:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's it's tough, like but
- 31:47Speaker 1: I thought that was dope, like like, was there anybody
- 31:50Speaker 1: in mind like when you wrote that, Like like you
- 31:52Speaker 1: don't got to see aybody's name, but was there some
- 31:53Speaker 1: well actually rap that's how we met. So on that
- 31:56Speaker 1: verse on on Fall, which I personally think is the
- 31:58Speaker 1: most important record on the album, because of that that
- 32:01Speaker 1: verse about female MC's and about and the second verse yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 1: and the second verse too as well, you get what
- 32:05Speaker 1: I'm saying. And uh, but unfortunately, because of what we
- 32:09Speaker 1: just talked about, I was a late Rahps City fan.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I didn't get put onto Layla's wisdom. And I'm on
- 32:13Speaker 1: tour with rock and I'm listening and I'm like, yo,
- 32:16Speaker 1: what the fuck? Like like she is crazy? Yeah, her
- 32:19Speaker 1: and Kendrick had been putting in work for like ten year,
- 32:21Speaker 1: and I didn't. I was just wasn't hip, you know
- 32:22Speaker 1: what I mean. And so I wrote the verse and
- 32:25Speaker 1: I actually even say on the verse, I say I
- 32:27Speaker 1: had a combo with Layla's share share sharing some of
- 32:29Speaker 1: her wisdom when we came to kick it with me.
- 32:30Speaker 1: So I wrote it from her perspective and I didn't
- 32:32Speaker 1: write the second verse yet, and she was following me
- 32:34Speaker 1: on Twitter, and so I just reached out to her
- 32:36Speaker 1: and was like, hey, I wrote a verse about you,
- 32:38Speaker 1: like I just want to send it to you so
- 32:40Speaker 1: that you could hear it, like it's special to me.
- 32:42Speaker 1: And I sent it to her and she called me
- 32:44Speaker 1: and she said that she started tearing up listening to
- 32:46Speaker 1: her because she she had stories about that where people
- 32:48Speaker 1: were talking to her and telling her how she needs
- 32:51Speaker 1: to like sexualize herself a little bit more. She was
- 32:53Speaker 1: just trying to stick to the core. And she said,
- 32:55Speaker 1: you know, that whole she just wanted to be an artist,
- 32:56Speaker 1: like she felt that because that's all she She was like,
- 32:58Speaker 1: I just wanted to rap and make music, you know
- 33:00Speaker 1: what I mean. And so that's how we made our connection.
- 33:04Speaker 1: And then after that, a couple months later, it was
- 33:05Speaker 1: when I said her, I can make it, and then
- 33:07Speaker 1: you know, we ended up doing that. So she was
- 33:08Speaker 1: definitely the one that was on them. So she was
- 33:10Speaker 1: she was she was the main behind that entire Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 1: for sure, I saw I thought that when I heard it.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, this ship like just reminds me
- 33:17Speaker 1: of like like cause I've been a Rhapsody fan for
- 33:20Speaker 1: so long. Yeah, and you know it's just I was like,
- 33:26Speaker 1: how is she not more respected? And it's really like
- 33:30Speaker 1: it's just because we have such a shallow industry that
- 33:32Speaker 1: we're in and really just like fans are so also
- 33:35Speaker 1: shallow money. Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 33:39Speaker 1: not every fan, like you know, it's unfortunate, and you
- 33:41Speaker 1: know I used to be guilty of that when I
- 33:43Speaker 1: was like younger, you know what I'm saying, Like, but
- 33:45Speaker 1: I definitely think like that's an important verse and then
- 33:49Speaker 1: even the second verse, and this is something that I
- 33:51Speaker 1: think is finally I feel like starting to kind of
- 33:53Speaker 1: die out. I feel like a lot of the young
- 33:55Speaker 1: artists that I'm meeting aren't drugged out of their minds exactly,
- 33:58Speaker 1: but for like two or three years bro, like twenty seventeen,
- 34:01Speaker 1: twenty eighteen, last year, like it's it was rough because
- 34:05Speaker 1: everybody we would have come by the radio station would
- 34:09Speaker 1: be fucking high as fuck and no understanding the damage.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Like and that's why to me that that song, like
- 34:17Speaker 1: I said, to me, the most important record on the
- 34:19Speaker 1: on the project, because it's like, not only is this
- 34:23Speaker 1: industry affecting, like the quote unquote street niggas that come
- 34:26Speaker 1: in and how they are with drugs and stuff like
- 34:28Speaker 1: that too. But that's the reason why even though he's
- 34:31Speaker 1: so loved and I love him too, you know, rest
- 34:32Speaker 1: in peace, mc miller. That's why I mentioned his name. Was, Yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 1: I heard you mention his name. I wonder if you're
- 34:37Speaker 1: going to catch some flat for that, Yeah, and I might.
- 34:39Speaker 1: But at the at the end of the day, like
- 34:41Speaker 1: I pride myself on being like one of the more
- 34:43Speaker 1: more honest artists out here, and I love mc miller,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and and it's a it's a tragedy what happened. But
- 34:49Speaker 1: the reason why I mentioned his name was to show
- 34:52Speaker 1: the industry, like it's for the people that's gonna say, well,
- 34:55Speaker 1: it's just these artists that are affected by it, the
- 34:57Speaker 1: ones that comes, and it's not this is just the
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's not just the littles. This is a great kid.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Hill was like one of the great. He was like
- 35:04Speaker 1: one of the great and a great kid and a
- 35:07Speaker 1: great guy and a nice guy in this industry in
- 35:10Speaker 1: my opinion, you know what I mean, destroy him. And
- 35:12Speaker 1: they're not just the young boys. It's not just the
- 35:14Speaker 1: young boys. And that was the reason why I did it.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I was like, you know, there's a chance that I
- 35:16Speaker 1: could catch some flat. But I feel like this is
- 35:18Speaker 1: so important for people to understand. Is that, like it's
- 35:21Speaker 1: not just the littles. It's like this industry affects everybody,
- 35:25Speaker 1: especially the kids that are stars young like Mac Miller
- 35:29Speaker 1: has been in this shit since he was like eight,
- 35:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So it's like when you
- 35:33Speaker 1: grow up in this industry, you almost don't even have
- 35:35Speaker 1: a shot unless we start changing how we approach kids,
- 35:38Speaker 1: Like these are kids, bro, you know what I mean,
- 35:40Speaker 1: And we're putting certain things in front of their face
- 35:42Speaker 1: and expecting them. You know, how are you, as a
- 35:44Speaker 1: fifteen year old, gonna be in the studio with one
- 35:48Speaker 1: of your idols and he offered you a blunt and
- 35:50Speaker 1: not hit the blunt? Like you know what I'm saying.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Like it is so it's like we got to start
- 35:53Speaker 1: taking more accountability or like if you're yet and like
- 35:57Speaker 1: you said, I mean, weed is one thing, but like
- 35:59Speaker 1: how are you going to be in the studio with
- 36:00Speaker 1: whoever and let's say they got zams or they're sniffing lines,
- 36:04Speaker 1: like bro, and these are your idols, You're like, I
- 36:07Speaker 1: don't want to look like the guy that's like you
- 36:08Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like it's the running joke like, oh,
- 36:10Speaker 1: Snoop pass me a blood, I don't smoke, but Snoop
- 36:11Speaker 1: past me a blood, Like you know what I'm saying,
- 36:13Speaker 1: Like that's like I've been, I've done that, but I
- 36:16Speaker 1: do smoke. Yeah, but I also like, yeah, I'm like
- 36:19Speaker 1: Snoop passages like how are you not going to do
- 36:22Speaker 1: exactly people? But but it's like, yeah, I think that,
- 36:28Speaker 1: you know, I've been, I've been kind of you know.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Shout Out to Future is one of my favorite artists,
- 36:31Speaker 1: but I was kind of critical of him pretty heavily
- 36:33Speaker 1: when it came to like just the narrative he was
- 36:35Speaker 1: pushing and he's living his true through his music. But
- 36:37Speaker 1: I just think that there was just an air of
- 36:40Speaker 1: and it's still going on, you know, but I just
- 36:43Speaker 1: feel like there's this whole way of kids that were
- 36:45Speaker 1: just influenced by by like that that kind of ship.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Like I think I think, you know, the fact like
- 36:54Speaker 1: mask Off was such a big song. The whole hook
- 36:58Speaker 1: is a back purpose number one rec I got right
- 37:05Speaker 1: is playing. Yeah, it's playing twenty thousand times a day
- 37:09Speaker 1: on the radio, bro, and they're not bleeping out Moley
- 37:12Speaker 1: birth is that they're not bleeping it out, Yeah exactly,
- 37:15Speaker 1: And that's my whole thing is like like for me,
- 37:17Speaker 1: it's like, you know, I never I never mind catching
- 37:20Speaker 1: flak if it's something that I stand on and it's
- 37:22Speaker 1: in my morals, you ge what I'm saying. Like, And
- 37:24Speaker 1: that's not to say that I'm perfect, because you know
- 37:26Speaker 1: there's times that I rap about you know what I mean,
- 37:28Speaker 1: smoking or drinking or whatever in case I may be
- 37:29Speaker 1: because I do it, But I also tell the other
- 37:32Speaker 1: sides of the story as well. And that's all I
- 37:33Speaker 1: say for people is like, you know, everybody live your truth,
- 37:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean, But understand that like when
- 37:39Speaker 1: you when you're giving money and fame and all this stuff,
- 37:41Speaker 1: like you still hold a certain level of responsibility. And
- 37:44Speaker 1: if it's artists that I am genuinely enjoying I'm a
- 37:48Speaker 1: fan of, I'm always gonna hold you accountable regardless. And
- 37:51Speaker 1: that doesn't mean that I don't like you, you know
- 37:52Speaker 1: what I mean. It just means that I'm holding you
- 37:53Speaker 1: accountable because you're in a position that you know, you
- 37:57Speaker 1: are a role model to somebody, you know, what I mean.
- 37:58Speaker 1: And if your fans, if I catch flackpard in your fans,
- 38:01Speaker 1: you know, feel some type of way about it, I'm
- 38:03Speaker 1: okay with it if it's something that I morally stand on,
- 38:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So that's kind of where
- 38:06Speaker 1: I'm at with it. Also on the project, you talk
- 38:09Speaker 1: about losing losing a child. Yeah, the issue of you know, abortion.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I think that's something that I never personally went through,
- 38:16Speaker 1: but I know, you know a lot a lot of
- 38:17Speaker 1: people have. Yeah, yeah, And I haven't really heard anybody
- 38:20Speaker 1: really dive into that issue on record since, Like there
- 38:23Speaker 1: was a comment in Lauryn Hill record when I was
- 38:25Speaker 1: a kid that was like crazy, But yeah, why was
- 38:28Speaker 1: that important to address? Because I feel like that's something that,
- 38:30Speaker 1: you know, man, that's a deep issue to dive into. Bro. Yeah. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 1: for me, it's funny. As a defense mechanism, I do
- 38:37Speaker 1: this thing where when I go through stuff that bothers me,
- 38:39Speaker 1: I just kind of forget about it, And so writing
- 38:42Speaker 1: about it was actually like the first time I even
- 38:44Speaker 1: talked about it. Like I didn't even tell my brother
- 38:45Speaker 1: as close as we are that that happened, just because
- 38:47Speaker 1: I just kind of wanted to forget about it, and
- 38:49Speaker 1: unfortunately it was in a situation where there wasn't a
- 38:51Speaker 1: lot of love in that situation, and you know, I,
- 38:56Speaker 1: you know, was the person that you know, didn't didn't
- 39:01Speaker 1: necessarily like like tell her to do it, but at
- 39:04Speaker 1: the same time was definitely like a guide trying to
- 39:06Speaker 1: lead her like this is going to mess up my
- 39:07Speaker 1: life or whatever the case may be. And I regretted it,
- 39:11Speaker 1: not because I wanted a kid at the time, but
- 39:14Speaker 1: just because of the fact that, you know, this is
- 39:16Speaker 1: something that is so sacred to a woman, and a
- 39:19Speaker 1: woman should be able to have that, you know what
- 39:21Speaker 1: I mean, which she still ultimately had that choice, but
- 39:24Speaker 1: I was being guiding and so that's why I talk
- 39:25Speaker 1: about it in the record, to hold myself accountable and say,
- 39:28Speaker 1: like I need to grow up, like that's that's childish
- 39:30Speaker 1: to have that mindset. That's childish to be that way
- 39:32Speaker 1: and to think that way, you know what I mean.
- 39:34Speaker 1: And so how long was that that was probably like shit,
- 39:38Speaker 1: like two and a half years ago, oh shit, yeah recent, yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 1: yeah exactly. And so for me, it was just like,
- 39:44Speaker 1: you know, I wanted to hold myself accountable for that
- 39:47Speaker 1: and speak about it and just for anybody else that's
- 39:50Speaker 1: in that situation to know, like, you know, men have
- 39:52Speaker 1: to be men, and you make the bed, you gotta
- 39:54Speaker 1: lie in it, you know what I mean. And it
- 39:56Speaker 1: should be her choice. And if she wants to do that,
- 39:58Speaker 1: then cool. If she doesn't want to do it, then cool,
- 40:00Speaker 1: But it should always be their choice, you know what
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'm saying. So I wanted to hold myself accountable or that, Yeah, no,
- 40:05Speaker 1: I think that that's some real shit. Like I think
- 40:07Speaker 1: that you know if you're like, uh, like your guide
- 40:11Speaker 1: in your narrative, like hey, look we don't work with
- 40:13Speaker 1: each other, like you know what I'm saying, Like you
- 40:15Speaker 1: know what I mean, And sometimes like you're pretty much
- 40:17Speaker 1: saying like, look I really gonna be around like that,
- 40:20Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And then that kind of
- 40:21Speaker 1: influences her decision and you know, as opposed to just
- 40:24Speaker 1: being like it's on you you want to do exactly
- 40:27Speaker 1: like you know where we are, Like she doesn't need
- 40:29Speaker 1: you to remind you mind, you of where you guys are,
- 40:32Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So that's my whole thing.
- 40:33Speaker 1: It's like, you know, y'all can have a completely have
- 40:35Speaker 1: an adult conversation about what the circumstances are and all
- 40:38Speaker 1: of that. I think that that part should always be had,
- 40:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But it shouldn't be a
- 40:42Speaker 1: guiding conversation, you know what I mean. It should be
- 40:45Speaker 1: just a conversation around where we are, you know, money, situation,
- 40:49Speaker 1: love and for sure, and then you know, ultimately you
- 40:51Speaker 1: make your decision. Isn't you make your decision? How did
- 40:55Speaker 1: the Showstop record come together with the Kendrick we'll call
- 40:59Speaker 1: him Adelte Yeah kind of like yeah, yeah, yeah, cause
- 41:02Speaker 1: that was like a shout out rock I kind of
- 41:04Speaker 1: took a swag on that. I saw Wind going crazy.
- 41:06Speaker 1: I was like, I need some I need some ad
- 41:07Speaker 1: libs right right right right right right yeah by the way. Yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 1: but no, like how did uh like, did you just
- 41:14Speaker 1: grab those vocals from like a session or did he
- 41:16Speaker 1: come in and nah? Yeah, that sounded like the record
- 41:21Speaker 1: from the Black Panthers soundtrack with Travis? Was it off
- 41:25Speaker 1: of that? Not? The ideas were birth though from that
- 41:27Speaker 1: and when it was birth from those records, and I
- 41:29Speaker 1: had show Stop already and we were already talking about
- 41:32Speaker 1: it being a single, and I was trying to get
- 41:34Speaker 1: a verse. I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, exactly, of course,
- 41:36Speaker 1: like I'm a swing for the fences. I was trying
- 41:37Speaker 1: to get a verse, but I started to slowly realize
- 41:40Speaker 1: in the conversation that ad libs are more reasonable, you
- 41:43Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And it's funny cause fans be
- 41:45Speaker 1: giving me slacked it like, oh, Kendricks, Oh he just
- 41:47Speaker 1: hit the ad libs. I'm like, it took me six
- 41:49Speaker 1: months to get these ad libs, Like y'all better enjoy
- 41:52Speaker 1: these ad libs, like it took me a long time
- 41:54Speaker 1: to get those ad libs from dot you know what
- 41:56Speaker 1: I mean, like to a point where I thought they
- 41:58Speaker 1: weren't coming. And it's funny because even when he get
- 42:00Speaker 1: the ad libs, he did a whole track of him
- 42:02Speaker 1: and I still like, we're like taking some and plugging
- 42:05Speaker 1: them in different places and stuff like that, because he
- 42:07Speaker 1: hit me and he was like, you know, like I
- 42:08Speaker 1: did the ad libs, but it feels a little crowded.
- 42:10Speaker 1: And then when I sent him the record back, you know,
- 42:11Speaker 1: we plugged him in certain places, he was like, Okay, cool,
- 42:13Speaker 1: that feels more natural or whatever, because he even when
- 42:15Speaker 1: he sent them to me, he didn't really like how
- 42:17Speaker 1: it sounded, so he wasn't gonna want it to come
- 42:19Speaker 1: out that way, you know what I mean, And so
- 42:21Speaker 1: I had to rearrange him and make it feel like
- 42:23Speaker 1: a record and then, uh, you know, he gave me
- 42:24Speaker 1: his blessing on it. But yeah, shout out to do. Yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 1: it's crazy because you would think, like coming to TD, like,
- 42:30Speaker 1: I feel like fans expect you to just get the
- 42:32Speaker 1: automatic Kendrick record. Yeah. I think that's happened for a while. Man,
- 42:36Speaker 1: Like they think it's like and that's what I like,
- 42:38Speaker 1: y'all think it's been like that for a very long time.
- 42:40Speaker 1: They think it's like a TD castle you walk in
- 42:42Speaker 1: and then you just get records from everybody. I'm like,
- 42:44Speaker 1: the feature like it was hard to get the que
- 42:47Speaker 1: a fucking menu or something like its Q record is
- 42:50Speaker 1: crazy though, thank you. The first he did not make
- 42:54Speaker 1: me play. I'm glad he didn't because I'm horrible and golf.
- 42:56Speaker 1: But uh nah, that was actually one of the ones
- 42:59Speaker 1: that my manager chem is he also manages Q, and
- 43:02Speaker 1: so he pitched it to him and but I didn't.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I wasn't sure if he was gonna do it, you
- 43:06Speaker 1: know what I mean. But he came through and he
- 43:08Speaker 1: killed that shit though, fuck with Q, man, because Q
- 43:10Speaker 1: will all like, it don't matter if you're major, Like
- 43:14Speaker 1: if he fucks with you, like, he'll do the verse exactly.
- 43:17Speaker 1: And if he's like in that headspace like I like
- 43:18Speaker 1: Q because it's like that one thing. If he fucks
- 43:21Speaker 1: with you, he'll do the verse. And then also like
- 43:22Speaker 1: if Q was working, like he's working and you know
- 43:25Speaker 1: what I mean, show like you'll have like I remember
- 43:28Speaker 1: I had. I was listening to like like Burner Styles
- 43:30Speaker 1: p album and that food was on there, and I'm like, man,
- 43:32Speaker 1: that's why I cused the Realist because he'll tap in
- 43:34Speaker 1: with whoever, like I know him and Freddy got some
- 43:37Speaker 1: ship on the way that I just heard. That's crazy.
- 43:38Speaker 1: I'm already knowing that's probably crazy, super crazy. But I
- 43:41Speaker 1: need to give Freddy or some ship shout out to Freddy.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Freddie is hard bro. What'll make it happen? Man? Yeah, no,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I definitely need to do that. All right, So the
- 43:48Speaker 1: album comes out, well, let's just we're gonna drop this
- 43:50Speaker 1: on Friday, so it's like being nice. So so the
- 43:52Speaker 1: album is out. Because the album's out, the albums out,
- 43:54Speaker 1: go listen to new Beginners right now? Can we Hey, okay,
- 43:57Speaker 1: so can we can we talk about the Logic lines? Yeah, yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 1: let's do it. I've known Logic for a very long time.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I don't take him as a culture vulture. Now. Obviously
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm a white man in hip hop, so you know,
- 44:12Speaker 1: you can think what you want about that. Yeah, but
- 44:16Speaker 1: you know, I kind of have known dude since about
- 44:19Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, and you know, I know him as like
- 44:22Speaker 1: a hardcore hip hop fan. Like that's how me and
- 44:25Speaker 1: him connected was through conversations about like a quimini, you know,
- 44:29Speaker 1: just just a lot of rap shit. Yeah, he seems like,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I mean, he's a very disliked guy the last five
- 44:37Speaker 1: or six years. But what is what's the issue with
- 44:40Speaker 1: Logic and why did he get that those bars? Or
- 44:43Speaker 1: for me, it's funny because that's the misunderstanding of the line.
- 44:45Speaker 1: And I learned a good lesson on that. I learned
- 44:46Speaker 1: two lessons timing as far as reading the room and
- 44:50Speaker 1: also like if you're going to say something, you need
- 44:52Speaker 1: to kind of go in a little bit more detail.
- 44:53Speaker 1: When I rap, I just kind of rap about what
- 44:56Speaker 1: I'm feeling at the time. So I too, have loved
- 44:59Speaker 1: Logic since like damn near twenty ten and kind of
- 45:03Speaker 1: going off for what we said earlier, like if I'm
- 45:05Speaker 1: a fan of you, I hold you accountable. A lot
- 45:07Speaker 1: of fans thought that I was saying he's a culture
- 45:09Speaker 1: vulture of hip hop. That's not what I was talking about,
- 45:12Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And so from a hip
- 45:15Speaker 1: hop standpoint, you can't talk about the last ten years
- 45:17Speaker 1: of hip hop without talking about Logic, like he's he's
- 45:20Speaker 1: in that category. You know, he's not as big as
- 45:22Speaker 1: Kindrick in them, but he's in that category. That yeah,
- 45:27Speaker 1: one thousand percent. So what I was speaking about was
- 45:29Speaker 1: the fact that Logic is a black man, and Logic
- 45:32Speaker 1: is somebody that has talked about black plight, black struggle.
- 45:36Speaker 1: That's what he talked about in his come up. And
- 45:38Speaker 1: then when he got to a certain album, I think
- 45:40Speaker 1: it was Everybody, and he touched on a lot of
- 45:43Speaker 1: issues that was going on in America, suicide, transgender's gaze, everybody,
- 45:47Speaker 1: and I personally felt like he didn't touch on black
- 45:50Speaker 1: lives matter enough. So when I said the line about
- 45:53Speaker 1: the culture, I just meant black culture is what got
- 45:56Speaker 1: you to the point that you're at. So when you're
- 45:58Speaker 1: at the top of your platform where now you're ready
- 46:01Speaker 1: to explode to the world to have this huge artist
- 46:04Speaker 1: like talk about us too. And that's what I meant
- 46:07Speaker 1: by that, And that just comes from my passion for
- 46:10Speaker 1: black culture in general and black lives and what's going
- 46:13Speaker 1: on with black people and stuff like that. I mean,
- 46:16Speaker 1: it came from that perspective, you know what I'm saying.
- 46:17Speaker 1: They had nothing to do with hip hop, had nothing
- 46:19Speaker 1: to do with records or rapping and nothing like that.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Like I'm a Logic fan, but like I said earlier,
- 46:23Speaker 1: like I hold people accountable, I would never want somebody.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I would want somebody to do the same thing with me.
- 46:28Speaker 1: If I get to a certain platform and now I'm
- 46:29Speaker 1: about to have that album that explodes, It's like, you
- 46:32Speaker 1: still gotta remember why you're doing this, which is to
- 46:36Speaker 1: you know, bring awareness, you know what I mean to
- 46:37Speaker 1: people and stuff like that. Yeah, I think I actually
- 46:40Speaker 1: was not a fan of that album. That's probably, uh,
- 46:42Speaker 1: And that was exactly I think a lot of people
- 46:44Speaker 1: that were hardcore Logic fans weren't. Y. Yeah, yeah, honestly,
- 46:47Speaker 1: like this last album that just dropped is incredible. Was
- 46:50Speaker 1: the last album, like the first album I've fucked with
- 46:52Speaker 1: since his second album is Incredible journey or true storyline. Ye,
- 46:57Speaker 1: no pressure is incredible. No Pressure's fire. But yeah, I
- 47:00Speaker 1: think that, like, I don't know, man, I just think that,
- 47:02Speaker 1: you know, I think that's a fair criticism, you know.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I think that album everybody was like, I think he
- 47:08Speaker 1: was dealing with a lot of the biracial shit. He's
- 47:10Speaker 1: probably meant. Yeah, I think that he was just probably
- 47:13Speaker 1: people don't know my logic is black, Yeah, no, which
- 47:15Speaker 1: is I think he was probably having a lot of
- 47:17Speaker 1: meetings and stuff like that, you know. I mean, I
- 47:18Speaker 1: don't want to speculate too much, but I think that
- 47:20Speaker 1: people were telling them like, this is what you have
- 47:22Speaker 1: to do to get to the next to the next level,
- 47:24Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And that's my whole thing is,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you know, I'm just if I'm a fan of you,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I'm going to I'm, like
- 47:30Speaker 1: I said, I'm one of the more honest artists in
- 47:32Speaker 1: this shit. I don't I don't necessarily, I don't have
- 47:34Speaker 1: the goals like everybody else has to be the greatest
- 47:37Speaker 1: of all time, because I don't believe that exists. Like
- 47:39Speaker 1: in ten years, there's going to be somebody that's going
- 47:41Speaker 1: to tell you NBA young boys better than Kendrick. It's
- 47:43Speaker 1: going to happen like so already generation of fans right
- 47:49Speaker 1: now that you will tell you that's a straight face exactly.
- 47:51Speaker 1: So for me, it's like, I just want to make
- 47:53Speaker 1: impact and I want to I want to broker honest
- 47:57Speaker 1: conversations and try to make an impact to where people,
- 48:00Speaker 1: you know, elevate their their honesty, their accountability, their responsibility,
- 48:03Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. And so, but like I said,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'm not going to escape my accountability in it. I
- 48:08Speaker 1: didn't read the room you know logic when I wrote it.
- 48:10Speaker 1: He wasn't retired. He's retired now. He's trying to do
- 48:12Speaker 1: his own thing, you know what I mean. And so
- 48:13Speaker 1: that is something that if I could go back, I wouldn't.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I just wouldn't say the line out there because it's like,
- 48:18Speaker 1: let him do his thing, you know what I mean.
- 48:20Speaker 1: And so it would be a conversation that if I
- 48:22Speaker 1: ever met him, I would have with him personally still,
- 48:24Speaker 1: but I wouldn't necessarily put it out saying for the record,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I don't think there's a chance in hell he doesn't
- 48:29Speaker 1: know who you are. Like you said, Oh no, he
- 48:30Speaker 1: definitely knows, but I like the it's like, bro, you're
- 48:32Speaker 1: you're a hip hop stand and this is top dog entertainment. Yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 1: you know, and he's a Kendrick stand exactly exactly. You know. Yeah,
- 48:39Speaker 1: but he had shout out to Logic though, like his
- 48:41Speaker 1: career musically, like I'd be lucky if I was able
- 48:44Speaker 1: to reach that level. You know. I'm glad you made
- 48:46Speaker 1: that clear because, like you know, a lot of people
- 48:49Speaker 1: took it from a hip hop standpoint, which I can't
- 48:51Speaker 1: blame him. And it's funny because when they dropped him,
- 48:52Speaker 1: like oh damn, it does sound like I'm saying that,
- 48:54Speaker 1: like like it does sound like yeah, because I was thinking, like,
- 48:57Speaker 1: you know, like, yeah, I know, Logic is like a
- 49:00Speaker 1: real hip hop head like this guy. You know, it
- 49:02Speaker 1: works with no idea. You know. No, you can't, you can't.
- 49:05Speaker 1: And that's what I'm saying, Like you can't say Logic
- 49:06Speaker 1: isn't a hip hop guy, and that's not what I
- 49:09Speaker 1: was saying. But you know, no, I understand what. I
- 49:11Speaker 1: understand why you said that though. Yeah, I think that
- 49:13Speaker 1: what's going on right now, man, it's very important. Like
- 49:16Speaker 1: that's why I tell everybody like you know, if you're
- 49:20Speaker 1: let alone, just the normal citizen who has empathy and
- 49:22Speaker 1: and and gives a fuck about your neighbor or just
- 49:25Speaker 1: you know, it's hard to get people to care about
- 49:28Speaker 1: shit that doesn't directly affect them. But specifically, if you
- 49:35Speaker 1: are a part of any sort of black culture, and
- 49:40Speaker 1: I mean that as far as you know. You could
- 49:43Speaker 1: be a radio personality, you could be somebody who does
- 49:48Speaker 1: YouTube shit, you could be whatever. But if you're benefiting
- 49:51Speaker 1: off the back of black culture, Like bro, I've literally
- 49:55Speaker 1: made my entire career off of black music. That's my
- 50:00Speaker 1: whole life revolves around black culture since I was fifteen
- 50:04Speaker 1: sixty really since I was like twelve even earlier, you know.
- 50:08Speaker 1: But like you know, I had a very interesting upbringing,
- 50:11Speaker 1: Like I was raised in a house where my best
- 50:13Speaker 1: friend was black and his grandma lived with me and
- 50:15Speaker 1: his sister lived with me when I was a kid,
- 50:17Speaker 1: you know, So, like it frustrates me so much to
- 50:21Speaker 1: see almost like you just said, with the logic thing,
- 50:23Speaker 1: no logic obviously African American man. Yeah, so you know,
- 50:26Speaker 1: it's a little different, but it frustrates me to be like, yo,
- 50:29Speaker 1: how are you like talking in and out of Drake
- 50:33Speaker 1: songs every day on the radio and like afraid to
- 50:36Speaker 1: fuck up your social media so now. And it's crazy
- 50:38Speaker 1: because you posted a video on Instagram talking about that,
- 50:41Speaker 1: and I got a lot of respect for you when
- 50:43Speaker 1: you said that, you know, I mean I saw your
- 50:44Speaker 1: Instagram post when you said that. You're like, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 1: every day you're talking in and out of Drake songs
- 50:49Speaker 1: and black culture. You're going to clubs and playing black music.
- 50:52Speaker 1: There's black people there. These are the people that are
- 50:54Speaker 1: literally affording you your life. And then when something happens,
- 50:57Speaker 1: you know, it's like you're like in for when it's convenient.
- 51:00Speaker 1: It's like you're tiptoeing in and out of the fucking
- 51:03Speaker 1: like bro like. But when ship hits the fan, like
- 51:05Speaker 1: you gotta like you gotta scream at the top of
- 51:07Speaker 1: your love exactly and shout out to Jack Carlow because
- 51:10Speaker 1: I even hit him up and reached out to fan
- 51:11Speaker 1: because uh, he was he was front line when that
- 51:14Speaker 1: ship was going on. He was marching every single day,
- 51:17Speaker 1: posting ship every single day, Uh, speaking at pep rallies
- 51:20Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Like like I feel like I
- 51:23Speaker 1: fuck with that, and like I always say, I always
- 51:25Speaker 1: you know, play the other side of the fence and
- 51:27Speaker 1: have accountability to the black people. Because Eminem did this
- 51:30Speaker 1: ship on the BT Awards where he made like a
- 51:32Speaker 1: free and they shipped on him, and I feel like,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you know, black people have to stop doing that as well.
- 51:37Speaker 1: It's like when when there are white people that want
- 51:39Speaker 1: to join the side, you know, and that was before
- 51:43Speaker 1: years is that it was like two three years ago,
- 51:45Speaker 1: and I feel like I thought it was dope. I
- 51:47Speaker 1: this is the biggest white artist from a rap standpoint
- 51:50Speaker 1: in the world. He's always been on this side of
- 51:51Speaker 1: the fence. It's not like he's doing this for like,
- 51:53Speaker 1: He's always been on the side of the fence. And
- 51:55Speaker 1: then we kind of shipped on him. You know. I'm
- 51:57Speaker 1: always hold my people accountable to him, say like that's
- 51:59Speaker 1: not cool, you know what I mean, Like Eminem is
- 52:00Speaker 1: somebody that's been on our side of the culture. You know,
- 52:03Speaker 1: we have to tackle this ship together if we're gonna
- 52:06Speaker 1: be able to make leeway, you know what. I Yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 1: I think to like someone like him, you know, like
- 52:10Speaker 1: he's got fans one hundred percent that are racist. Yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 1: And he put that on the line, like if you
- 52:15Speaker 1: are racist, don't like don't support me, don't fuck with me.
- 52:19Speaker 1: There's something because because like I'm real close with a
- 52:22Speaker 1: rapper named Ritz who's a white dude. Okay, that's actually
- 52:25Speaker 1: hilarious by the way. Yeah he's fired Okata check out
- 52:30Speaker 1: and and like you know, you know, I got a
- 52:33Speaker 1: boy named Jelly Roll and like a lot of times
- 52:35Speaker 1: even like Tech nine, like is my boy, and like
- 52:38Speaker 1: I've done a lot of stuff with strange music and
- 52:39Speaker 1: that just that world, and that world is mostly white fans. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 1: and a lot of them are racist. Bro. There's a
- 52:47Speaker 1: lot of Tech nine fans that are racist as fuck.
- 52:49Speaker 1: That's the same, bro, like straight up and like and
- 52:52Speaker 1: and tackle tell you that too. You know what I'm saying.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I'm sure now you know, he's got an incredible following,
- 52:58Speaker 1: but there's like a real faction of hip hop fans
- 53:01Speaker 1: that just that are real like maga ass motherfuckers. Bro. Yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 1: it's like it's it's very disappointing. But like you said
- 53:08Speaker 1: about the eminem thing, like he might piss off a
- 53:12Speaker 1: huge part of his fan base by saying something, But
- 53:15Speaker 1: what he might also do is even if it's a
- 53:18Speaker 1: thousand people who hear that freestyle, ye and it teaches
- 53:22Speaker 1: them something and then they go google it and then
- 53:24Speaker 1: they're like, like they they become more educated about the
- 53:28Speaker 1: situation where they change their stance on shit like Eminem
- 53:31Speaker 1: influences people not thought they might be people who drink
- 53:34Speaker 1: Monster Energy and have you know, Fox Racing cargo shorts.
- 53:39Speaker 1: But but I'm saying, like he can reach people like
- 53:42Speaker 1: and and there's gonna be there's gonna be parts of
- 53:45Speaker 1: the of his fan base and just anyone anyone in
- 53:47Speaker 1: the country that just aren't that they're just this is
- 53:49Speaker 1: where they are. They're not gonna budge. Yeah, I think
- 53:52Speaker 1: it's about thirty and thirty. I think it's thirty percent
- 53:54Speaker 1: over here, thirty percent over there, but that last, you know,
- 53:56Speaker 1: forty percent, that's in the middle. You know, you fight
- 53:59Speaker 1: for those, you know what I'm say. And even more importantly,
- 54:02Speaker 1: there might be other white celebrities that wanted to say
- 54:05Speaker 1: something and were about to say something and then saw
- 54:08Speaker 1: Eminem get killed and step back. And so that's another
- 54:11Speaker 1: reason why I feel like, you know, we can't do that,
- 54:12Speaker 1: is because you know, that's those could have It could
- 54:16Speaker 1: have been other artists or celebrities or whatever that wanted
- 54:19Speaker 1: to say something to stand with us, and it's like
- 54:21Speaker 1: we take a step back by killing them because they
- 54:22Speaker 1: might be with shit. Like Image jumped out the window
- 54:24Speaker 1: and they went crazy on him. I'm just gonna I'm
- 54:25Speaker 1: just gonna chill back, you know what I mean, and
- 54:27Speaker 1: not say nothing. And it's like we need every single
- 54:29Speaker 1: voice that we can get, you know what I mean,
- 54:31Speaker 1: and trying to change it, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
- 54:33Speaker 1: that's how I feel. What do you think if someone's
- 54:36Speaker 1: watching this and they're like kind of just unsure of
- 54:42Speaker 1: the things that they could probably do to, you know.
- 54:45Speaker 1: For me, like I was one of those guys who
- 54:47Speaker 1: was like you know, and I've been you know, anytime
- 54:50Speaker 1: there's I mean, you know, I grew up like I said,
- 54:52Speaker 1: my best friend Rams is the best man at my wedding.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Like we would be riding around in his neon when
- 54:57Speaker 1: I was like fourteen. He was older than me, and
- 55:00Speaker 1: we get pulled over and this food yanked out the car,
- 55:03Speaker 1: put on the curb, and then they would be interrogating
- 55:06Speaker 1: me like why are we hanging out? Why are you
- 55:08Speaker 1: hanging out with this like older black kid, you know.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And so it's always been something close to my heart.
- 55:14Speaker 1: But like for me, it's like okay, like I want
- 55:18Speaker 1: to put my money where my mouth is, but I
- 55:21Speaker 1: didn't know where to donate because you know, you never know,
- 55:23Speaker 1: like with so many of these that's real. It's like
- 55:26Speaker 1: it's it's so agenda. Like, yeah, so I just called
- 55:28Speaker 1: Killer Mike anytime I got any sort of questions about that.
- 55:31Speaker 1: That's a good person to call Killer Mike. I say, hey, man,
- 55:34Speaker 1: I really want to post, I want to donate some money,
- 55:36Speaker 1: and I want to shed a light on some charities,
- 55:38Speaker 1: like just tell me what you tell me what to do.
- 55:42Speaker 1: He's a good leader in this ship. Yeah, and he's like, yo,
- 55:44Speaker 1: there's you know this, this this cool. You know what
- 55:46Speaker 1: I'm saying. And then obviously, you know, protesting, And I
- 55:49Speaker 1: think I might have called it. I might have caught
- 55:50Speaker 1: the rona when I was out protesting. I might have
- 55:52Speaker 1: that might have been where I got it. But but
- 55:55Speaker 1: I do think that there's like like it's I know
- 55:57Speaker 1: that a lot of people get shipped for being social media,
- 56:02Speaker 1: you know, like quote unquote like oh you're doing this
- 56:05Speaker 1: for the grammar or whatever it can and there's a
- 56:06Speaker 1: lot of that. Yeah, but I do think either way
- 56:09Speaker 1: it's you know, it's better than nothing. I think the
- 56:11Speaker 1: Black Square shit was kind of cordy, to be honest. Yeah. Yeah,
- 56:13Speaker 1: I feel like it's like looking back, Yeah, looking back
- 56:16Speaker 1: on it, I was like, uh, you know, that didn't
- 56:18Speaker 1: really help. But I think it's a growing process. And
- 56:21Speaker 1: like I have because I worked at a I worked
- 56:24Speaker 1: at a corporate company before I got signed. That's where
- 56:26Speaker 1: I was working at. So I had a lot of
- 56:27Speaker 1: white co workers and friends still and uh, some of
- 56:30Speaker 1: them even reached out to me, was like, you know,
- 56:31Speaker 1: what do we do? And for me, I just think
- 56:32Speaker 1: that the biggest thing that you can do in the
- 56:34Speaker 1: day to day life is to just try to understand
- 56:37Speaker 1: what's going on and do your research and empathize with
- 56:40Speaker 1: it and you know, hold other people accountable. Like I
- 56:43Speaker 1: think that that's the bare minimum that you can do.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Because people that are of that world that are naive
- 56:48Speaker 1: quote unquote, Like, you're not naive. You grew up in
- 56:50Speaker 1: this black culture. But there's other people that are naive
- 56:52Speaker 1: because they didn't grow up here, but they do. They
- 56:54Speaker 1: are humans and they feel for us now because they're aware.
- 56:57Speaker 1: So I tell them, like all the people that are
- 56:58Speaker 1: in your circle, you just have the whole them accountable
- 57:00Speaker 1: when y'all are having these conversations and stuff like that,
- 57:03Speaker 1: like you can't be afraid to speak up to them
- 57:05Speaker 1: because that's your quote unquote friend or whatever. There's like
- 57:08Speaker 1: these white people conversations that happen where there's no other
- 57:12Speaker 1: races around exactly, and then that's when you really find out,
- 57:15Speaker 1: like that's a fact. Whether it's people you work with,
- 57:17Speaker 1: or you might be at a fucking liquor store or something.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Somebody in line might say some slick shit to you
- 57:22Speaker 1: because you're another white guy and they think that like, oh,
- 57:25Speaker 1: it's all cool, like you know what I mean? Bro?
- 57:27Speaker 1: Like what? Bro? What? And those are the conversations that
- 57:29Speaker 1: I feel like everybody like, that's not that's not cool,
- 57:34Speaker 1: like you know what I mean? And those are the
- 57:35Speaker 1: conversations that you gotta hold people accountable, you know, at
- 57:37Speaker 1: the bare bare minimum, and then you know, if you
- 57:40Speaker 1: want to go that extra mile, you know, you do
- 57:42Speaker 1: do your research. I advise everyone of Facebook too. That
- 57:46Speaker 1: place is the fucking pool of the Internet. It's the worst.
- 57:49Speaker 1: It's up there with Twitter. Twitter. I think it's like
- 57:51Speaker 1: the Twitter's fail book is where like the memes and
- 57:56Speaker 1: like the fake news story, bro, when my mom has
- 57:58Speaker 1: hit me with so much like is this true? And
- 58:01Speaker 1: I'm like, Mom, did you see that on face? Yeah?
- 58:06Speaker 1: Like listen then no, probably not true. There By the way,
- 58:13Speaker 1: shout out to Kendrick. I got to address the whole
- 58:16Speaker 1: the rumor of him leaving TD. He put that to
- 58:19Speaker 1: bed today. You see Thelues Animal. Yeah, No, I thought
- 58:24Speaker 1: it was really really funny, and I think that, like,
- 58:26Speaker 1: you know, I hope he's putting out some music soon,
- 58:30Speaker 1: but is it is it kind of like the Gift
- 58:33Speaker 1: and the curse of the TD thing because any sort
- 58:36Speaker 1: of like like Kendrick is like, you know, I put
- 58:39Speaker 1: him Top five. Ever, Yeah, I always tell people because
- 58:42Speaker 1: there's like og hip hop fans and tell me I'm crazy,
- 58:45Speaker 1: But I'm like, yo, you're gonna put Biggie in the
- 58:47Speaker 1: top five, which is fair off the two albums, Yeah exactly,
- 58:51Speaker 1: But Kendrick got yeah, three classics and we're not talking
- 58:56Speaker 1: about Section eighty yeah, or the Kendrick or or you know,
- 59:01Speaker 1: even untitled you know, but like we're just talking about
- 59:04Speaker 1: his three official YEA Good Kid, the Butterfly, and a
- 59:07Speaker 1: Don Yeah Sion eighties up there with that with those
- 59:10Speaker 1: rest you know what I'm saying. But but yeah, I
- 59:14Speaker 1: just feel like everywhere you're gonna go, Yeah, you're gonna
- 59:16Speaker 1: get Kendrick questions. It's funny because I was just talking
- 59:20Speaker 1: to Punch about this the other day. I don't think
- 59:23Speaker 1: that there's been an artist that's been in my position
- 59:25Speaker 1: as far as like the amount of pressure. And what
- 59:27Speaker 1: I mean by that is that, you know, I'm the
- 59:29Speaker 1: first artist that has to be broken without Dave Free
- 59:32Speaker 1: being around. He hasn't been involved in any part of
- 59:34Speaker 1: my career. And that's not a shot at him. He
- 59:35Speaker 1: just left when I was coming in, So that's timing.
- 59:39Speaker 1: There hasn't been an artist, a new artist to drop
- 59:41Speaker 1: when the thirst level of the bigger artists has been
- 59:44Speaker 1: this high, you know what I mean. It's been three years.
- 59:47Speaker 1: It's been three years, and it's been four for Zay,
- 59:49Speaker 1: and it's been like three for Sizza, it's been like
- 59:51Speaker 1: two for for Rock two and a half got earlier
- 59:56Speaker 1: actually like a year and a half ago. You get
- 59:58Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So for all the bigger artists, there's
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: never been a younger artist to drop when there's been
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: that first level that high, you know what I mean.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: So It's like I'm in a position where I have
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to make people care, I have to do the creative
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: direction without Dave, and everybody just wants to die album,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So I'm definitely under like
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: the most pressure that any TV artist has been under.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: But at the same time, I always try to look
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: at pros and cons in every situation instead of saying
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: woe was me, And the pro is that like all
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: eyes are on me, you know what I mean. And
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I know that there's gonna be a lot of fans
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: it's just like you all reasons dropping cool, he's out
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the way, you know, like where's the next album or whatever,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: But there are gonna be those handful of fans that
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: still go listen because you know, it's still TD. And
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I think that this project is strong to where they're
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: gonna know, you know what I mean, that like, oh,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: this dude is not just like another dude that's just dropping,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Like this is a very very strong project. So that's
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: what I'm looking forward to. What your uh, you know,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I know you got Isaiah on the album, and I've
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: been waiting for like you said, man, yeah, I think
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: he's one of the greats. I think he's somebody who
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: don't get enough. I mean, also he hasn't put an
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: outbount Yeah exactly, it's like to the other side of it.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: But what's your relationship like with him? You know, I think,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: like I said, there was there was just there's just
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: been so many rumors about his career and like you know,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I know he's still on the label. I think for
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: a while there there was like some speculation that he
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: might have not been on the label. But like what's
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: y'all's relationship in dynamic? We have a great relationship and
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: shout out today me and around the same age. And
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I appreciate a because he's been through a lot of
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: shit that I'm still going through and he holds me accountable.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Without going into detail, he called me and help me
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: accountable about the logic shit just about like bro read
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: th room, you know what I mean, like not necessarily
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: getting on me about what I said, but just like
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: why you know what I mean? And so you know,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: there were things that he said that I agree with.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: There was things that he said I didn't agree with.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, I love anybody
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: that will call me that cares about me and hold
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: you accountable because that is a tough conversation to have
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: with anybody that you love, you know what I mean.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: And so there's the kind of people you want around you,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: those kind of people you want around you one hundred percent.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: And so you know, I fuck was that. We have
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a great relationship. I tell people by the time, Zay
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: is a lunatic and that's part of the real you know,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: part of the delays in his music as well, is
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: that he's fucking crazy. Like Zay, He's he's very very
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: detailed about his music. He cares about it a lot.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: He cares about his music a lot, a lot. He's
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: very connected to it. And so, you know, until it's
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: where he wants it to be, in the records that
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: he wants, and him and Top get on the same
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: page about that because it has to be records that
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: he loves and is connected to, and it also has
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: to be records that Top you know, believes can elevate
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: his you know, his status. So you know that that
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: that takes a minute sometimes and it's definitely a pushing
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: pool thing because Top is probably the hardest critic of
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: music that I've never heard it met. Yeah, it's fucking crazy. Like, yeah,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I've heard so, but shout out to Zayoh. I don't
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: think that people have to wait much longer though, Where
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: will there be a continuation of the storyline of Lambeau
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Truck like You and Cons like might do a part
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: two and something like there's we We've talked about it
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: because we're working on the project, and there's gonna be
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: a You and Cause joint. There will be a weird
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: we're working on it. We're actually almost done. I was
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: not gonna be like the Kendrick Cole album. No, it's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: not gonna be like that. Yeah, And I told me
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: and Cos talked about that. I said, bro, we're gonna
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: do this, Like I don't want it. Like I said,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I came into ship as a fan. I never want
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: to do to fans what other artists have done. That's
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: frustrating because I've been a fan, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: So I told Cauz, like, if we're gonna put this
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: ship out there and talk about it on the internet,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: like it's got to come out, it's got to come out.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: And I was like, and even if the labels don't agreed,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: and we got to just like leak it and we
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: just got to both take it on the chain from
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: the like SoundCloud. I don't know how you know what
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like it is what it is, but it
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: has to come out, you know what I mean? Like,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: and so that's that's how I feel about it. But nah,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: it would have been done by now. But I was
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: really just tying up this project. It was really like
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I forgot how long it in. How many hours it
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: takes to send videos and I mean to do videos
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: and get content together and all of that ship, and
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: so I had to kind of back out. We were
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: having sessions, and I had to kind of back out
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: of those sessions for a minute to get my ship
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: tied up. But shout out to him, you guys are
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: we probably got like eight right now. We're trying to
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: make sure the project is only like seven records, but
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: we want to make like fifteen and then pick the strong. Yeah.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: So I actually just had a phone call with him
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: last night because I sent some two joints that I
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: did and I was like, you know, like I'm back
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: working again, right, Yeah, I'm back working again, so like
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: let's get cooking. And he was like thank god, because
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: like I've just been missing as far as like the
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: process of it, so uh yeah, we'll we'll probably wrap
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: that up like within the next month month and a half.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: What is uh do you remember what Top's reaction was
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: to that song originally when you heard Causes portioned the
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Top called me and said, he said, stick a Top
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: his crazy. He said, yeah, I heard you was Robin Cole.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Tell Kys remembers just a song. Just tell to make
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: sure he remembers. It's just a song. Bro, don't don't
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: don't come over it. It's not where you want to
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: come over here with that. I do think it's dope though,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: that you guys are gonna do that project together, because
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I do feel like, no matter what dream villain Tde
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: are gonna always be, they're they're the integrity in hip
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: hop when it comes to creatively, like the artists that
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: you're like that everyone signs like, I feel like that
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: there's two constants when it comes to integrity, Like you
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: know you're gonna get a certain level of music or
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: quality when you know when it comes to those two camps. Yeah,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: and just call and Kendrick kind of having a simultaneous
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: come up. Yeah, Yeah, it's been like right there, you
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like Cole was on the Freshman
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: cover year after Kendrick was on the exactly you know
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And then it's like, you know, I
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: think Dot drop or or cold dropped Sideline story and
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: then that I dropped Good Kid in Mass City and
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: then you know, uh, what's the record on section eighty
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: that Jay Cole produced the Big One? Oh yeah, Ship.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: I used to play it on the air all the time. Yeah,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: high power, high power, Yeah, exactly exact produce that back then, Yo, Yo,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: you should get some cold beats. Reason, Bro, I'd hit
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: him up for some like I'm like, like, what are
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: you but he's working on this album. I'm like, Nigga,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I know there's records that you're not If there's records
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: that you're not using, Bro, he's actually a super super
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: fire producer. Well but you know what I mean, Like
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: now Cole is a dope human. People'll be forgetting that ship.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: When Cole first came out, like he was low key
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: like producing for other artists a little bit a thousand
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: percent thousand per you know what I mean, and birthing ideas,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean as far as like from
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: a writing perspective, not necessarily writing, but just birthing ideas.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: You know, I tell people those are the best producers
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: to me, are the ones. Shout out Cal Banks. He
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: does this and that's why I love working with him.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: But like, as an artist is hard to keep coming
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: up with new ideas, But the producers that make beats
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: and then kind of give you ideas of cadences and
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: abilities and stuff like that, like those are the well
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: is producing beat It's just beat making, you know what
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, which is no offense to that if
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: you were a beat maker, shout out to you. But
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: it's like there's a difference between a producer and a
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: beat maker. And I tell people that too. It's like,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: you know, there's there's some producers that don't make beats,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: but they produced, Like shout out to Diddy, like he
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: was one of those people. He didn't make beats, but
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: room like, yeah, like you know what I mean, like
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: let's do this, let's do that, And that's an important
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: thing as well, you get what I'm saying. So so yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I was not was. I am a fan and I
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: I always wanted that project though, and you know, I
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: just wish that like the world would have got it,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And so yeah, and that's
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: another thing that I'm pushing to is like this relationship
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: with dream Bille and TD to just come a little closer.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I was the only artist that was on the Revenge album,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And I was proud of that,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: me and Jid. I took a pay cut to go
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: on that tour because I felt like it was important
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: for the culture, not for you know what I mean,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Like Top still didn't, you know what I mean, feel
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: because he's a businessman, like that don't make sense. But
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I took a pay cut because I feel like it
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: was important and me and cos making this project to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: me is important and I just feel like it's important
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: for our two labels to grow a relationship. And you know,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: we're always going to have friendly competition, but at the
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: same time, we do need to grow a little bit
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: closer to a relationship. Now. I think it's dope. Like
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I remember as a kid, the Rough Riders and cash
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Money going on tour together. Yeah, yeah, you know, there
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: was shit like that going on that, Like that shit
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: is iconic, and I feel like that shit is kind
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: of missing, Like you said, like the fact you went
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: on tour with Jid is super fire. I just feel
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: like that that kind of like, you know, like a
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: sizz a fucking ri Lennox Strow would be so crazy,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: would be so crazy, bro, even like how they do
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Dreamville Fest. I'm like, if in we did the championship,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: So I'm like, if TD and Dreyville did a tour, bro,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: it would be literally insane. Bro. Like it was like
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: and on. From a business perspective, it was so much
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: money that can be made. What showed me that was
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: a Days in Vegas. Did you go to Days? Of course? Yeah? Like, Bro,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: that Ship was the most lit festival I've ever performed
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: at because you had hip hop fans at a festival
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: going crazy and they don't get the opportunity to go
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: to festivals. And see, I thought that the lineup was epics.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: The execution of the festivals, Yeah, the execution of the
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: festival was like a little a little shaky. It also
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: was fucking blown out of my mind for like three
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: days straight at that tour, like high as fuck. And yeah,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I was on mushrooms and Ship and it was a great.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: It was a great I enjoyed, Like you said, like
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: the music on Fridays and Sunday. The Friday was Dream,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Sunday was TD. The fact each each camp had sh
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: it was so hard. Bro. When Kendrick came out on
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: the cowboy hat and I didn't know what was going
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: on and people didn't think it was you look like
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the fucking the monster and jeepers creepers, like yeah, Like
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I was like, what the fuck is that? But like,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: imagine if like we have more songs together and if
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: on both days you were getting like you know what
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like because when being Cosy Lambo Truck there,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: it went crazy, it went crazy, And I'm like, bro,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: if if everybody on the labels had different records with
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: each other, like and we were like doing ship on
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: you guys should do like, it would have been stupid
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: five dates. I agree. Yeah, just like pick the biggest cities.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: You know what it is, work becomes tough is and
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: and you know, I think the only reason something like
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: that won't happen or why it might not happen is
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: deciding who goes last. Yeah, And that's and that's to me,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that's what kills so many moments in hip hop is
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: the that part of it is like who goes last?
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Who what? What? Label is kind of almost like Kendrick
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: and Cole would almost like when I saw the Drake
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: and Lil Wayne tour when they were going back and forth,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: ship was kind of fly. Yeah. I mean, obviously Drake's
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: gonna go last, if anyone's gonna go last. But with
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Colon Kendricks, there's really no definitive way to pick that.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: But I think they, Hey, yo, we're in l A. Yeah,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Kendrick's gonna go last. We're gonna do Atlanta. I don't know,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: maybe you do. That's what I say, because I've had
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: conversation with my homies about to just just spitballing and talking ship.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I feel like they should just divide the country at half,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and I'm gonna take the East coast, you take the
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: West coast. You know what I'm saying. When we on
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: the West, you go last. When we on the East,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: like La San Francisco, Charlotte, Lance to New York, YEP,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: exactly and calling to Day. You get what I'm saying. Like,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and I feel like if they did that and maybe
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Texas or something, yeah, yeah, and three three and three
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: and just you know, dot go last over here co
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: go last over there. That's what Eminem did. They didn't
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: even know they did. They did. They did two shows.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: They did, yeah, in New York and they did New
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: York and Detroit they did the Baseball Stadium or whatever
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: the big stadium is, and then in New York they
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Didntyankee Stadium. That's fine. I had no idea that that happened. Yeah,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: they only did two shows. It was called the Home
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: to Home tour, so it was like the artist did
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: and in Detroit, J opened for m That's that's hard.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: That's hard with that. Yeah, like that she would be
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: crazy tight though, like and that's what I'm saying, Like
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: and if they did a show like that where they
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: went back and for bro like like those are moments
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: that like it doesn't matter what the ticket costs, like
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: because it's priceless fans. Yeah, like like it's just take
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: all my money, Yeah, take all my money? About that.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: In Vegas tour, I was hip hop and how much
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: do you need? When people saw I had homies hitting
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: me up like before I buy my ticket? Is this fake?
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Like like have you gotten paid for this ship? Like
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: that was the craziest lineup ever assembled because we did
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: our real street Fest in August and they announced that
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: ship and I was like, oh my god, how much
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: money did they spend on line? Like how did how
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: is this even possible? Jesus Christ? They had like five
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: major headliners there, like people, this is the person you
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: picked to close the entire and they had like five
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: of them. It was insane, Bro, It was crazy. Bro.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: I don't even think Tyler closed out the day he
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: was on. No, he didn't. Travis closed out that day.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Travis closed out. That's what I'm saying. Like, it was insane, bro,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: that Travis was there. I want to say Cardi was there.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I'm not one hundred percent shore she was supposed to
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: be there, Okay, that's what it was. She was supposed
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: to be there. Boozy was there, like Cole dot Tyler. Like,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying, Like they that's five they were
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: there one hundred percent. It was crazy, bro, it was
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: super super crazy. So yeah, I just want like us
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: to create more moments like that. You get what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I think that's true. Man, I think that a lot
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: of ego. I'm not saying that that's the case here,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: but I just think in general, like in hip hop,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: there's a lot of shit that like I think I
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: call it business ego, which is not like the people.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: It's more about like the business like of the two sides,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: like it doesn't make sense for us, Sorry, well it
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: doesn't make sense for ourself, saying like, so I don't
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: think it's necessarily artists, Like what if we just did
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: something for the fans, wouldn't that be crazy? Like nah,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: that'd be super crazy. Look, man, the album officially out
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: or project or mixtape or whatever we're calling it, whatever
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: we want to call it. Does this mean we're gonna
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: have to wait four years for your next project? It
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: does not. And that's one thing I've taken pride in
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: and with the labels that I do feel like I've
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: changed the mode of how things work a little bit,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: even to the fact, like fans are giving me a
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: lot of slack, Like, man, we've had eight singles, like
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: we heard the whole album. I'm like, well, no, only
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: three of them are on the project, Like because tde
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: artists don't just drop singles. That's not a thing, you
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: know what I mean. And I was the first one
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: that just was just putting shit out, Like I just
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: get on tops nerves and tell you, like, let me
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: shut reason up and put something out. Yeah, but I
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: said that to say no, Like I'm almost done with
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: my debut album. I'm hoping to drop like second quarter.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: So that's what I'm aiming for. That's what my managers
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: and all of us are talking about. So that's what
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: we push them for it and maybe a little cause
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: of trying to get that out before my debut. So
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: I'm trying to get the Cause and reason shit January
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: I am. That's what I'm aiming for. That's what I'm
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: aiming for. I gotta I gotta double check with cos
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: of schedule because I know that he's wrapping up his album.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: But we've already been in the grants that like we're
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: just gonna put that out. We don't got to do
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: nothing crazy behind it, just for the fans. We just
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: put it out with video or two years, a couple
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: of videos. Let it do what it's gonna do. You
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: get what I'm saying, and hopefully get some features from
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: both sides, and that to be the closest thing that
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: people What we're trying to do is make it the
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: closest thing that people can get to a TD Dream
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: Build tape. So we're trying to get features from both sides.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, heavily featured, exactly, heavily featured,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And get some ship from
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: our side, get some ship from their side, put it
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: out for the fans. We don't got to do nothing.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: So and j I do ever been on the record together,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: not from my understanding, but I feel like that would
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: be crazy. Though, I think that would be crazy. I'm
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: gonna put my vote out there and J I D
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: you my guy, but get them I think by the way,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I know that DJ had had this big thing that
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: you got, you got, you gotta ate up by Yes,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: I didn't think it was exact close. You didn't think
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: it was that close. I think was full shit. Oh okay,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: thank you. Y'all about to say okay, yeah, yeah. And
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: he knows that he can get a reaction, so you
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: know what I mean. He knows I'm so competitive, he
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: can get a reaction. But uh but nah, like like
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: so did go crazy? But like I tell people all
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: the time, like I always I always make sure that
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: like my verse is there before I send it off.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: And I like Honestly, I like when artists hear my
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: verse and try to like go crazy. I'll do it
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: because it makes the song better, you know what I mean.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Like I don't want you to send no bullshit because
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: then I'm not gonna put the song out, you know
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: what I mean. And so but I will say shout
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: it's two artists, shout out Boogie and Rhapsody. I probably
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: won't be sending them anymore versus First because Boogie on
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Trapped In went crazy bro Boogie went crazy on Trapped
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: In and then rahaps I can make it when so
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: so crazy. So I'm like y'all too, I gotta get
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: in the studio. We gottat, we gotta write this. We
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: gotta do it together. You gotta do this together, y'all.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Can't just keep on like having my my ship and
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: like being all you know, you take two muths to
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: write a verse and send me back a fucking eather
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: nahs verse Like, nah, We're not doing that no more.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Look at the album reason The Merches out as a
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: merch drop yeah March, Yeah, it would have dropped by
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: the Yeah, okay, so the Merch will be out on Friday,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: which is it's past Friday. No, it's Friday. Now. We're
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: dropping we're dropping this. Yeah, so the March is out. Now,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: the March one hundred percent reasons care. Let's go perfect man,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: that's dope.
