- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, now 9 till noon weekdays on 710WOR. Hey,
- 0:06Speaker 1: we'll take some calls, 800-321-0710 is the number. Hey, you know,
- 0:12Speaker 1: today's Tuesday. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, is the midterm convention, the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Republican midterm convention. It'll be two days in Texas, Wednesday, tomorrow,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and Thursday, Thursday. And it's a brilliant idea. President Trump
- 0:31Speaker 1: came up with it. I don't know why somebody didn't
- 0:32Speaker 1: think of this before. Presidential year, you have the big convention,
- 0:36Speaker 1: gets a lot of attention, everybody gets to speak, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: it's basically a big pep rally for the Republicans or
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Democrats. So it's midterm elections. It's an off-year election.
- 0:47Speaker 1: But President Trump came up with the idea, let's do
- 0:49Speaker 1: a midterm convention. He'll come and make a big, enormous speech,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and then they got a whole bunch of speakers, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: then at the end, Final day, final night, J.D. Vance
- 0:58Speaker 1: will speak. People that run it asked me if I
- 1:01Speaker 1: wanted to broadcast live from there. And, of course, I
- 1:05Speaker 1: immediately said no. Spent two days listening to politicians make speeches. Now,
- 1:11Speaker 1: that's the only problem with this convention. It's a great idea.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I don't know who's going to actually show it. Obviously,
- 1:16Speaker 1: they're not going to run it on MSNBC or CNN or,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know, the networks. And even if you're Fox, you've got, like, big,
- 1:24Speaker 1: high-rated shows online. You're not going to preempt them to
- 1:28Speaker 1: do these speeches, maybe President Trump's speech. But here's the
- 1:32Speaker 1: list of speakers. Imagine broadcasting live to get these speeches.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Mike Rogers, Ken Paxton, Caroline Leavitt will speak. All right,
- 1:42Speaker 1: that one might be good. Todd Blanch. And basically, it's
- 1:49Speaker 1: just a bunch of senators. It's Senator Ron Phillips, Senator
- 1:53Speaker 1: John Fredericks. It's a million senators you've never heard of.
- 1:56Speaker 1: So it'll go on for two days. And again, it's
- 1:59Speaker 1: a great idea. I just don't know in the world today,
- 2:02Speaker 1: I don't know who will actually broadcast this and show this,
- 2:06Speaker 1: but a million clips will come out of it. Maybe
- 2:09Speaker 1: that'll happen. What the president wants to do here is
- 2:11Speaker 1: nationalize this election. So if you've got a local Senate
- 2:14Speaker 1: race in Michigan, a local Senate race somewhere, the problem
- 2:18Speaker 1: is off your election, no presidential election. So you get
- 2:22Speaker 1: very low voter turnout. So he wants to make this
- 2:25Speaker 1: as if he were on the ballot, as if it's
- 2:27Speaker 1: a vote for him or against him to increase turnout
- 2:30Speaker 1: among Republicans. So maybe, just maybe, that'll work. Now, you're
- 2:36Speaker 1: going to see all these fake news, network news, his
- 2:41Speaker 1: approval ratings, the president's approval ratings are low. Look how
- 2:44Speaker 1: low they are. They're so low. They forget to tell you.
- 2:47Speaker 1: They're double what the Democrats are. Democrats have an approval
- 2:50Speaker 1: rating way below Trump. In fact, Democrats are now breaking
- 2:54Speaker 1: the all-time record for low approval ratings they always leave
- 2:57Speaker 1: that part out of the story and it's trump you
- 3:00Speaker 1: know this guy he'll always pull a rabbit out of
- 3:03Speaker 1: his hat so between now and november he'll he'll he'll
- 3:06Speaker 1: pull something off hey let's take some calls let's go
- 3:08Speaker 1: to uh jeffrey in new hampshire jeffrey how you doing.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Mark, awesome show. I'm addicted to the show.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Now, Mayor Mommy Connie of New York.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Now, this sounds like the Buchanan guy. There's no way
- 3:23Speaker 1: a guy calls you from New Hampshire.
- 3:24Speaker 3: How are you?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Where are you actually from? This is Steve from Manhattan.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You can't call with that accent and try to claim
- 3:31Speaker 1: you're from New Hampshire.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'm from New Hampshire.
- 3:35Speaker 1: What town are you in in New Hampshire?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Manchester. Come on. Don't give me the third degree.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Tell me a town next to Manchester.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Oh, come on, man.
- 3:46Speaker 1: What are you doing? He always calls with a different name,
- 3:51Speaker 1: a different state. Let's go to Mike in Florida. Mike,
- 3:56Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 3:58Speaker 2: You're like the ace detective.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Well, you don't have to be Columbo on that one.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You take a call from New Hampshire and go, yo,
- 4:06Speaker 1: how are you? They're not a guy from New Hampshire.
- 4:10Speaker 3: There, down south.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I see the president is busting chops again, Mark, by
- 4:17Speaker 2: calling New Mexico New America, which I thought was amusing.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And I think I read somewhere he's thinking of changing
- 4:24Speaker 2: the name of the Grand Tetons after Dolly Parton.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh, there you go. Wait a minute. Hang on here.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it's just he likes to shake things up.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You know, you ever go to the zoo and you're
- 4:37Speaker 1: looking through the cage, you're looking at the big tiger
- 4:39Speaker 1: and There's always some bratty kid who has to rattle
- 4:42Speaker 1: the cage, has to throw something at the cage. Yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 1: he's the.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Quintessential New Yorker.
- 4:48Speaker 2: He's a BB, as my father used to say about
- 4:52Speaker 2: guys like that.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Something buster.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Exactly. Because it works, and he understands that. It's sort
- 4:59Speaker 3: of good natured in many ways, but You have to
- 5:08Speaker 3: be accepting of it.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's what the problem with some of these people who
- 5:11Speaker 2: are going to be no-shows for the convention are going
- 5:15Speaker 2: to create that situation where, oh, he's too much.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And it's like, no, go to the convention.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Support it every way you can. You want to win.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. All right, Mike. Good call. Thanks for calling. Yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: he just likes to cause a little trouble now and then.
- 5:32Speaker 1: He's the Howard Stern president. You got to remember, he
- 5:36Speaker 1: comes from the world of Howard Stern, Imus, that kind
- 5:38Speaker 1: of stuff. You always rattle the cage, start a little trouble,
- 5:41Speaker 1: push the envelope. That's just the way he is. You're
- 5:43Speaker 1: not supposed to do that when you're president. But hey,
- 5:46Speaker 1: he's had more success in a lot of areas than
- 5:49Speaker 1: all those professional politician presidents. So let him do it.
- 5:52Speaker 1: That's what he does. You know, guys like that, when
- 5:56Speaker 1: they see a good target, I think that's the problem
- 5:58Speaker 1: with Canada. They just look like good targets. Those leaders
- 6:01Speaker 1: of Canada, they just look like these pompous stuff shirts.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And when Trump sees that He loves to tweak them.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Let's go to Pat in Westchester. Pat, how are you doing?
- 6:12Speaker 4: Very well, Mark. How about yourself?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Good.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Now, getting back to Maria Bartiromo, do you think her
- 6:17Speaker 4: good looks contributed a lot to her career success?
- 6:21Speaker 3: No.
- 6:22Speaker 1: No, she was a very fine reporter, a very good reporter. Remember,
- 6:25Speaker 1: she was on the Wall Street stock exchange floor originally
- 6:28Speaker 1: as a reporter. No, she knows her stuff backwards.
- 6:31Speaker 4: But she used to be referred to as Money Honey.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because when you have a lot of great top
- 6:36Speaker 1: business reporters and one of them looks real good, you
- 6:38Speaker 1: make up a nickname like that.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Now, you couldn't do that today. Back then, that was
- 6:43Speaker 1: 30 years ago, whatever that was. You could call it
- 6:45Speaker 1: the money, honey. Now, you'd be canceled for treating a
- 6:48Speaker 1: woman like an object like that.
- 6:50Speaker 4: And my other question would be, do you think any
- 6:53Speaker 4: of these other business hosts are sitting by their phone
- 6:58Speaker 4: waiting for a call maybe to replace her?
- 7:00Speaker 3: No.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Oh, to replace her?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be rotating hosts. She does the
- 7:07Speaker 1: morning show, Fox Business, so that'll be rotating hosts. And
- 7:09Speaker 1: then what else does she do? She does the Sunday
- 7:13Speaker 1: show on Fox News.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and she used to do, like, that version of
- 7:17Speaker 4: Wall Street Week.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 4: So she actually, you know, she was a hard worker.
- 7:22Speaker 4: I wonder if when they confronted her on this thing,
- 7:25Speaker 4: you know, she used to work long hours and get
- 7:27Speaker 4: there 4 o'clock in the morning and everything like that.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I wonder if she just said, ah, that's fine with me.
- 7:32Speaker 1: You know, let's... Well, uh, she's a very hard worker,
- 7:37Speaker 1: but much of the time she was doing the show
- 7:38Speaker 1: from the Hamptons. So, uh, the commute was from the
- 7:43Speaker 1: living room.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I know, I know she married very well.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, no, she does. She's a very nice person in
- 7:48Speaker 1: real life. Yeah. She'll, she'll do fine. Uh, maybe thanks
- 7:53Speaker 1: for calling. Yeah. Where would she go? I don't know.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Newsmax could be, could be, they're probably already calling. Uh, yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 1: a lot of places she can go. Uh, She's a very, very,
- 8:05Speaker 1: very good business reporter. Sometimes she's getting a little too
- 8:09Speaker 1: much controversy. These little conspiracy theory type stuff, Dominion, all
- 8:13Speaker 1: those kind of things. She was always going a little
- 8:16Speaker 1: too far in that kind of stuff. Rick Santelli is
- 8:20Speaker 1: stepping down from CNBC. CNBC is a very left-wing, very liberal,
- 8:26Speaker 1: very biased place, except for Joe Kern and Rick Santelli.
- 8:32Speaker 1: he would broadcast from Chicago. You see, that's the thing.
- 8:34Speaker 1: He's not in the swamp. He's not in the, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 1: the New York, Washington, D.C.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Swamp.
- 8:41Speaker 1: He was a Midwestern guy coming from the heartland. Remember him?
- 8:45Speaker 1: He's the guy that came up with the name Tea Party.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Remember that? We're thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party
- 8:50Speaker 1: in July. All you capitalists that want to show up
- 8:53Speaker 1: to Lake Michigan, I'm going to start organizing. What are
- 8:56Speaker 1: you dumping in this time? Yeah, he actually named it
- 9:00Speaker 1: the Tea Party. He came up with that name. Hey,
- 9:03Speaker 1: we got a lot to get to. Don't forget, it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: three hours now, 9 to noon. We got a lot
- 9:08Speaker 1: of stuff coming up in the next hour. And every day,
- 9:11Speaker 1: 9 to noon, Mark Simone here on 710WOR. Then at noon,
- 9:15Speaker 1: you got Buck and Clay. That's a very good show
- 9:17Speaker 1: every day. And everybody will be back today. Sean Hannity,
- 9:20Speaker 1: the most listened to radio show in America, 3 o'clock today.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Jesse Kelly at 6 and the very funny Jimmy Fallon.
- 9:28Speaker 1: 9 o'clock tonight on 710WOR.
