- 0:01Speaker 2: It's one more thing.
- 0:07Speaker 3: That's what Trumps said famously, that's where are the black folks?
- 0:12Speaker 2: I love my blacks.
- 0:16Speaker 1: To find a different way to phrase.
- 0:17Speaker 4: That, we're gonna tip our cap toward Black History Month,
- 0:20Speaker 4: but after that for dessert, to keep you around. The
- 0:24Speaker 4: very first YouTube video ever, it's the anniversary of YouTube launching.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Wish I had by the time machine and go back
- 0:30Speaker 4: and invest in YouTube or something, or start a YouTube
- 0:34Speaker 4: that's better, start a YouTube channel doing something because people
- 0:37Speaker 4: got in early on that stuff made lots of money.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Helps to be first in. Yeah, for sure, what would
- 0:43Speaker 3: you do? Do you think maybe guitar lesson? Guitar lessons
- 0:47Speaker 3: are big ones. The guys that got in earlier, not
- 0:49Speaker 3: even particularly better than anybody else. They got like five
- 0:51Speaker 3: million followers, They print money.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I suppose I could do something like that. I don't know,
- 1:01Speaker 3: reviewing golf equipment for the everything.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Absolutely that would work.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, huh, I wish anyway. Uh so, uh.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It is Black History Month, which we don't generally pay
- 1:12Speaker 3: attention to around here. Black folks have been part of
- 1:15Speaker 3: American history all the time and ought to be highlighted
- 1:18Speaker 3: when it's appropriate twelve.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Months a year.
- 1:21Speaker 3: It's kind of a sop to the activist crowd to
- 1:24Speaker 3: designate a month, but anyway, that's my opinion. President Trump
- 1:27Speaker 3: celebrated advice surrounding himself with a bunch of black people
- 1:31Speaker 3: who really really like him, and it was kind of
- 1:34Speaker 3: amusing in a Trumpean way. Here's the parsident himself and
- 1:38Speaker 3: clips sixty Michael.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I love Nicki Mina.
- 1:41Speaker 4: She was here a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So beautiful, her skin, soup beautiful.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I said, Nikki is so putiful. Her nails, her nails
- 1:49Speaker 4: like that long, I said, I said, Nikki, are they real?
- 1:54Speaker 2: She said she didn't want.
- 1:56Speaker 4: To get into that, but she was so beautiful. What's
- 2:00Speaker 4: so great? And she and she gets it, you know
- 2:03Speaker 4: more importantly, frankly, she gets it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I gotta take a breath.
- 2:09Speaker 4: He is entertaining. He is He's good at that. He's
- 2:13Speaker 4: done that. He's done so much of that in his life. Oh,
- 2:17Speaker 4: various fundraisers and you know, sales conferences and just banquets.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Well he he had a number of folks to approach
- 2:28Speaker 3: the mic and uh and just speak from their hearts,
- 2:32Speaker 3: don't let anyone tell you that this president right here,
- 2:36Speaker 3: Donald Trump is not for Black America.
- 2:39Speaker 4: No text on tips has been an amazing blessing for me.
- 2:42Speaker 4: President Trump has been an amazing blessing for me.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I don't want to hear none you got to say
- 2:46Speaker 3: about their racist stuff, and don't be looking at.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Me on the news.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Hate knowing me because I'm standing up for somebody out
- 2:53Speaker 2: the man's back.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Let him do his job.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Who is that?
- 2:56Speaker 1: That was for Leegia Cook.
- 2:59Speaker 3: We've got a little longer form of her screen.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I love him. I don't want to hear none you
- 3:05Speaker 3: got to say about the racist stuff, and don't.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Be looking at me on her news.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Hate knowing me because I'm standing up for somebody that
- 3:12Speaker 3: deserves to me. Stand up, going, get off the man's back,
- 3:15Speaker 3: let him do his job.
- 3:16Speaker 4: He's doing the right thing.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Buck up off of me.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And Grandma said it.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Wow, she was fiery.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Wow. Could I hire her to be my defender?
- 3:36Speaker 4: I need Joe Gett.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's trying to tell you what's happening in the world.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Back off it.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Wow, that's hilarious.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Somebody you like, like you know, Obama or or Biden
- 3:49Speaker 3: or whatever, just randomly selected folks. Here's here's the microphone. Yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 3: I think you're doing a terrible job. You're an awful president.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Of course you bring fans, of course. Oh I loved Granny.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We got to play that for the radio show tomorrow.
- 4:04Speaker 1: That's too good.
- 4:05Speaker 4: How many years ago did YouTube start?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Michael twenty one?
- 4:10Speaker 4: Can I wrap my head around what that means that
- 4:12Speaker 4: YouTube started? So they were just a website at that time?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Or was it an app?
- 4:18Speaker 1: YouTube dot com?
- 4:20Speaker 4: There were no apps at that time. It's two thousand
- 4:22Speaker 4: and five, and it's just a website. A smartphone didn't
- 4:24Speaker 4: come out till two thousand and seven, So wasn't it
- 4:26Speaker 4: an app?
- 4:28Speaker 3: It was a website. Okay, you dial it up on
- 4:31Speaker 3: your computer. There were other places to watch videos. What
- 4:35Speaker 3: was unique about YouTube?
- 4:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:38Speaker 4: But this is the first video they ever had. What's
- 4:40Speaker 4: a I'll look up us that amazing stat of how
- 4:44Speaker 4: many videos are added to YouTube every single day. While
- 4:46Speaker 4: we're listening to this, but this is the first YouTube
- 4:48Speaker 4: video ever. Do we need any setup on this, Michael,
- 4:51Speaker 4: uh No, it's basically it's the co founder at the zoo.
- 4:55Speaker 4: All right, So here we are one of the elephants.
- 5:00Speaker 4: What these guys spent They said, they have really really
- 5:04Speaker 4: really long trunk.
- 5:07Speaker 3: That's cool, and that's pretty much all. This an idiotic
- 5:12Speaker 3: take in awful audio, and it launched an empire. He
- 5:17Speaker 3: was saying, did you catch that amazing thing about elephants
- 5:21Speaker 3: is they've got really, really really long.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Trunks.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I can't resist this, give me more, I said, first
- 5:35Speaker 4: of all, I'm signing up for premium.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Secondly, yeah, but.
- 5:39Speaker 4: What was the event that really launched YouTube? It was
- 5:42Speaker 4: in their first video, but it was the thing that
- 5:43Speaker 4: really put them on the map. Everybody was going to YouTube.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Oh then the nip slip from the super Bowl. Everybody
- 5:49Speaker 4: wanted to find that and they became aware, Oh there's
- 5:52Speaker 4: a platform that has whatever the hot video is called YouTube. Yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 4: the nip slip really really launched you tube for a
- 6:00Speaker 4: lot of people.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Wow, her areola ought to be worth billions now.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Janna Jackson's the figures on YouTube. Currently twenty million videos
- 6:11Speaker 4: are added daily to YouTube, twenty million a day. If
- 6:16Speaker 4: you want to break that down, that's blah.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Blah blah blah.
- 6:21Speaker 4: You put that twenty million figure into perspective. We can
- 6:23Speaker 4: go to by time that doesn't make sense though. Sorry,
- 6:29Speaker 4: chat GPT, you gave me one of those numbers that
- 6:32Speaker 4: doesn't make any sense anyway. That's a lot per hour day.
- 6:38Speaker 4: But the twenty million a day.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Of course that's globally, but wow, it seemed comprehensible.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Obviously, and being first in or the first one to
- 6:53Speaker 4: grab people's attention, as we were just talking about earlier,
- 6:56Speaker 4: is just so big in the world of online there's
- 6:59Speaker 4: no particular reason. I don't think that YouTube's bigger than
- 7:03Speaker 4: a lot of other platforms doing roughly the same thing,
- 7:05Speaker 4: but don't make a difference. I go to YouTube because
- 7:07Speaker 4: I just same reason. You know, you buy Kleenex.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I guess that's the good enough principle.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think you're on it, you like it, it's good enough,
- 7:15Speaker 3: and so you stop searching for alternatives.
- 7:19Speaker 4: My son and I I have the premium account, so
- 7:22Speaker 4: there's no ads. So my son and I were sharing
- 7:26Speaker 4: my account. But the problem is that he didn't like
- 7:28Speaker 4: my algorithm for stuff that I like, and I didn't
- 7:31Speaker 4: like his searches interrupting my algorithm. I was getting all
- 7:34Speaker 4: kinds of stuff about dinosaurs that I just don't need.
- 7:37Speaker 4: So he started doing his own YouTube searches, putting up
- 7:41Speaker 4: with the ads just so we can keep our algorithms separated.
- 7:44Speaker 4: They need to have a like they don't have a thing,
- 7:46Speaker 4: at least I'm aware of it, like Netflix, where you
- 7:48Speaker 4: can have one subscription. But you know, I got an
- 7:51Speaker 4: account and my kids have an account all their own feeds.
- 7:55Speaker 4: That would be helpful, right, That would be helpful.
- 7:57Speaker 3: On YouTube because the other they wouldn't make as much
- 7:58Speaker 3: money though, right right, You're right, that is probably the thing.
- 8:05Speaker 4: And YouTube is a lot more inelastic than your streaming services.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I'm guessing, depending on what.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Your lifestylele will pay what they need to pay.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Now a lot harder to live without YouTube, at least
- 8:21Speaker 4: to me.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would agree. I'm a big fan.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I'm on it all the time.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Tell you what, When I'm done with my newses and
- 8:33Speaker 3: the work for the day, and I've been recording a
- 8:35Speaker 3: bunch of music lately. But if I'm tired and i
- 8:37Speaker 3: just want to space out and enjoy something.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I'll go to the TV.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And I would say, you know, I've got most of
- 8:43Speaker 3: the streaming services most people have, but fifty percent of
- 8:47Speaker 3: the time, maybe even more, just end up on YouTube.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Well, yeah, so if you're old enough, you can remember
- 8:54Speaker 4: the time. He was an old joke. Right, I got
- 8:55Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty six channels and there's nothing to watch.
- 8:58Speaker 4: You just flip through, flip through through, and it couldn't
- 9:00Speaker 4: find anything watch. That never happens with Instagram or YouTube
- 9:04Speaker 4: because it knows what I like. And I can open
- 9:07Speaker 4: up YouTube right now and it's gonna be able to
- 9:09Speaker 4: stream me until I get you know, have to go
- 9:11Speaker 4: to the bathroom or get hungry, two of things that
- 9:14Speaker 4: I'm interested in. When I used to flip through all
- 9:17Speaker 4: the channels and couldn't find a single thing I'm interested in,
- 9:19Speaker 4: YouTube has got me all kinds of things. It's something
- 9:23Speaker 4: for better or worse, and every conceivable interest.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I have a buddy who got into geological something or
- 9:32Speaker 3: other from them, like the Ice Age and how that
- 9:36Speaker 3: changed the American West, because he drives around the West
- 9:39Speaker 3: a lot.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He's retired now.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And he's just so you just watch video after video
- 9:43Speaker 3: after video about you know, how the glaciers came down
- 9:47Speaker 3: and scraped this and it left and unprecedented in the
- 9:51Speaker 3: lake there in the mountains and blah blah blahy just
- 9:53Speaker 3: for whatever reason he got into it.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Then he would go drive and look at it and
- 9:56Speaker 1: rubbish gin.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Wow wow, and then he'd go watch another video.
- 10:00Speaker 4: You know, guys, back in two thousand and eight, we
- 10:03Speaker 4: played this clip, Hello YouTube on my cockaby.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It's when politicians didn't quite know what to do, but
- 10:09Speaker 2: the knew they were supposed to get on here.
- 10:11Speaker 4: How to use it? Yeah, hello YouTube, Hello YouTube on
- 10:15Speaker 4: my cockaby. That was a little clunky.
- 10:17Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I have never for a second thought about I need
- 10:21Speaker 3: some political content.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'm going to YouTube.
- 10:23Speaker 4: No, that's funny for what we do for a living. No, now,
- 10:26Speaker 4: they just force it down our throats and the ads.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I uh, I don't have anything in my algorithm that's
- 10:33Speaker 4: politics at all.
- 10:34Speaker 1: No, No, who wants that?
- 10:38Speaker 4: Well, actually, people I know who get up every single
- 10:41Speaker 4: day and stream nothing, scroll nothing but political content, usually
- 10:46Speaker 4: really wacky, untrue political content. But I know a handful
- 10:50Speaker 4: of people that scroll that stuff constantly. Maybe it's because
- 10:53Speaker 4: what we do for a living, But I got no
- 10:54Speaker 4: appetite for that. Later in the day, Oh.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Last thing I want.
- 11:02Speaker 3: The thing about giraffes is they got really really uh
- 11:08Speaker 3: really long neck.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Uh huh wow.
- 11:17Speaker 4: From that to twenty million downloads a day. Wow uploads.
- 11:24Speaker 3: How many of those twenty million downloads are people getting
- 11:27Speaker 3: kicked in the crotch?
- 11:27Speaker 4: Though about half I'd say so.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
