- 1:21Speaker 1: for you folks.
- 1:21Speaker 3: We're doing it shutter days today. And it was like,
- 1:27Speaker 3: my god, man, like, what if my dad would say,
- 1:31Speaker 3: father's work is never done?
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, just my dad would say my dad's was worse.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Actually my dad's would go. My dad would go, A man's.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Work is never done. I'd be like, god, Dad, I
- 1:43Speaker 2: even knew that was awful? Is that like?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Was that part was part of the day? Was never
- 1:48Speaker 3: done with you? Like ironing your clothes and your underwear.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Dad, exactly, Yeah, with an apple in your mouth. You know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: Man's work has never done I have.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Made any memories of trying to watch TV and looking
- 2:01Speaker 3: back at my dad's and his boxers and nothing else.
- 2:04Speaker 2: God is closed for the week. It's like, can you
- 2:06Speaker 2: go upstairs please? God?
- 2:11Speaker 1: My Yeah, yeah no, we got a I got a
- 2:13Speaker 1: lot of great stuff coming to you this week, folks
- 2:16Speaker 1: in terms of our agenda here. But I do have
- 2:19Speaker 1: to say before we get into that, Eric Man, that
- 2:21Speaker 1: Ai tapestry you have back there is still fantastic. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: think I'm gonna mention it on every single show just
- 2:27Speaker 1: so that people were listening on audio come over to
- 2:30Speaker 1: YouTube here and check it out, because it's it is
- 2:32Speaker 1: freaking awesome. It's just great, it really is.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I mean just the attitude on his face.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he he kind of was the cornerstone
- 2:42Speaker 3: of that era in terms of the attitude and and
- 2:45Speaker 3: and the profile and just that that just says it all.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's the best. And he started it, yes, yes, yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: doctor J started Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 1: You never you hardly ever saw Everson with with his
- 2:56Speaker 1: affro out like you never saw he always had like
- 2:59Speaker 1: some sort of like cornrows or something like that going
- 3:01Speaker 1: on with his hair.
- 3:02Speaker 2: You never hardly saw the afro.
- 3:04Speaker 3: He always looks so much cooler and harder. Yeah, when
- 3:07Speaker 3: he had to throw out, it was very very often,
- 3:09Speaker 3: but yeah, it's not very often. But yeah, I that's
- 3:13Speaker 3: my favorite version of AI right there.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yep, all right, well, everybody, we're gonna get into the
- 3:17Speaker 1: show here. We're gonna start off by doing our segment
- 3:21Speaker 1: this week in Philly Sports History, and then from there
- 3:24Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some NFL and Eagles talk and
- 3:27Speaker 1: some general football talk as well. Of course, we're gonna
- 3:30Speaker 1: talk about the Tush Push and the fact that it
- 3:32Speaker 1: has survived and it will be played by the Philadelphia
- 3:36Speaker 1: Eagles and possibly other NFL teams this coming season and beyond. Also,
- 3:40Speaker 1: news came out that the NFL is gonna be allowing
- 3:43Speaker 1: its players to play out or to play flag football
- 3:47Speaker 1: into twenty twenty eight Olympics. We're gonna dive into that that.
- 3:49Speaker 1: We're gonna get into some sixers in NBA talk, as
- 3:53Speaker 1: this postseason has been absolutely incredible to watch as we're
- 3:57Speaker 1: in the Eastern and Western Conference finals right now, and
- 4:00Speaker 1: in terms of the sixers talk, just want to get
- 4:02Speaker 1: into a brief discussion if we think this team can
- 4:06Speaker 1: actually make a push this upcoming season, now that they
- 4:09Speaker 1: have the number three overall pick in the draft and
- 4:12Speaker 1: they do keep that pick, what that means for the
- 4:14Speaker 1: young coren talent on this team for the future and
- 4:18Speaker 1: for this upcoming season and then when we're thrown down
- 4:20Speaker 1: on the table. This week, got a great discussion with
- 4:22Speaker 1: our good friend Liz Rocher from the Hitten Season podcast
- 4:27Speaker 1: and the Society for American Baseball Research SABER.
- 4:30Speaker 2: She's gonna join us.
- 4:31Speaker 1: To discuss this Phillies team and a lot of storylines
- 4:34Speaker 1: that we're following with them throughout this twenty twenty five season.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But we're gonna be asking the question, who is this
- 4:41Speaker 1: Phillies team? Like, what is their identity from a batting
- 4:44Speaker 1: pitching perspective. We got a great discussion coming with Liz,
- 4:47Speaker 1: So Eric, let's get started with this week in Philly
- 4:52Speaker 1: sports history. And I've got four here that I want
- 4:56Speaker 1: to mention. We're gonna go back to May fifteentheen seventy five,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Flyers defeated
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Buffalo Sabers four to one. Really setting the tone
- 5:08Speaker 1: for their eventual championship victory and winning the Stanley Cup
- 5:12Speaker 1: that year. Then we moved to just a few years later,
- 5:16Speaker 1: May seventeenth, nineteen seventy nine, in a wild, wild slugfest
- 5:21Speaker 1: at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Philadelphia Phillies ended up beating
- 5:25Speaker 1: the Chicago Cubs by a score of twenty three to
- 5:29Speaker 1: twenty two in ten innings. Mike Schmidt had two home
- 5:33Speaker 1: runs in that game, a game that featured a total
- 5:36Speaker 1: of eleven home runs and fifty hits. I would have
- 5:39Speaker 1: loved to have seen that game. And then we were
- 5:41Speaker 1: gonna talk about real quick here May fifteenth, nineteen eighty two. Look,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I was only five years old the time. I think
- 5:49Speaker 1: you were six. But the Philadelphia seventy six ers secured
- 5:52Speaker 1: a very narrow ninety nine to ninety seven playoff victory
- 5:55Speaker 1: against the Celtics, and it was a significant win during
- 5:59Speaker 1: their journey to the NBA Finals that year. And then finally,
- 6:04Speaker 1: just a few years ago, May twenty second, twenty twenty one,
- 6:08Speaker 1: at the time, Philly's first baseman, Reyes Hoskins, he hit
- 6:12Speaker 1: his one hundredth career home run in his four hundred
- 6:15Speaker 1: and fiftieth game, he became the fourth fastest player to
- 6:18Speaker 1: reach that milestone with the Philadelphia Phillies, following Ryan Howard,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Jim Tomy, and Chuck Klin. So that is this week
- 6:26Speaker 1: in Philly sports history. I gotta tell you May seventeenth,
- 6:30Speaker 1: nineteen seventy nine. I mean, I was two years old
- 6:32Speaker 1: at the time, Eric, But my gosh, a baseball game
- 6:35Speaker 1: that finished twenty three to twenty two in ten innings,
- 6:39Speaker 1: eleven homers and fifty hits.
- 6:41Speaker 2: That's freaking crazy. I would have loved to have seen
- 6:43Speaker 2: that game.
- 6:45Speaker 3: And the greatest Philly of all time, Michael jack Schmidt
- 6:47Speaker 3: had two home runs that game. Yes, and that is
- 6:50Speaker 3: probably the number one classic. If there's a rain delay
- 6:54Speaker 3: going on, not now, not so much, but like back
- 6:57Speaker 3: in the eighties nineties, ye would say, Lad, these early nineties,
- 7:01Speaker 3: there was a rain delay on the Phillies broadcast, they
- 7:03Speaker 3: would go and show the highlights from that classic nineteen
- 7:06Speaker 3: seventy nine game.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Against the Cubs.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Ye.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I've seen the highlights a thousand times. I never saw
- 7:11Speaker 3: the actual game.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I don't even know if they had it, Like,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I don't even know if they have it in archives anywhere.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I've never seen the game either. It was on Instagram
- 7:18Speaker 2: quite a bit.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Some of the highlights, yeah today, yesterday, Yeah, I saw those.
- 7:23Speaker 1: What was the first one again, The very first one
- 7:25Speaker 1: was the Flyers. It was May fifteenth, nineteen seventy five.
- 7:29Speaker 1: We weren't even born yet. Stanley Cup Finals Game one.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabers four to one. It's set
- 7:36Speaker 1: the tone. That game really set the tone for their
- 7:38Speaker 1: eventual championship victory.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Man, that might as well be nineteen twenty, exactly eighteen twenty.
- 7:46Speaker 3: The only thing I remember about that series beside there
- 7:48Speaker 3: was like there was a game where there was a
- 7:49Speaker 3: beat on the ice and one of the players had
- 7:52Speaker 3: to kill it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yes, that wouldn't leave.
- 7:55Speaker 3: And then when they did, no one wanted to pick
- 7:57Speaker 3: it up. Yes, And it was one game where it
- 8:00Speaker 3: was like eighty degrees on the ice and it was
- 8:02Speaker 3: just it was just fog. That's all I remember. Highlights
- 8:07Speaker 3: for the year.
- 8:07Speaker 1: There you go, folks, you got it from Eric. Right
- 8:09Speaker 1: here is Flyers highlights. All right, Well, let's move along
- 8:13Speaker 1: here with the discussion and show and talk about the
- 8:17Speaker 1: news that came out today that the NFL owners taking
- 8:21Speaker 1: the vote on the tush push and the play has survived.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The play survived when the owners voted twenty two to ten.
- 8:30Speaker 1: And what happened here there was twenty two owners that
- 8:33Speaker 1: actually voted to ban it, folks, ten teams that voted
- 8:37Speaker 1: to keep it. They needed twenty four votes in order
- 8:40Speaker 1: to ban the tush push and obviously did not get there.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Just an amazing in my opinion, overall, bunch of woosies
- 8:51Speaker 1: in this league that have come together to say a
- 8:56Speaker 1: team has perfected something. We don't like it because right now,
- 8:59Speaker 1: at this point in time, we can't stop it, so
- 9:01Speaker 1: we are going to complain and try to make a
- 9:03Speaker 1: rule change because of it. Eagles found a loophole about
- 9:08Speaker 1: four years ago and have exploited that loophole. And we
- 9:12Speaker 1: see this time and time again in various industries. Things
- 9:15Speaker 1: are exploited all the time. But the Eagles have done
- 9:18Speaker 1: something that I'm not sure any other NFL team has
- 9:21Speaker 1: done necessarily eric in the history of the NFL, taking something,
- 9:25Speaker 1: utilizing it time and time again, game after game being
- 9:29Speaker 1: successful with it, scoring touchdowns, getting first downs, to the
- 9:33Speaker 1: point where other teams are absolutely baffled, and after years
- 9:37Speaker 1: and years have still not been able to stop it.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, stop it. You'll
- 9:42Speaker 1: have to stop it, and somebody will. Somebody will at
- 9:44Speaker 1: some point they will figure it out, I think. I
- 9:47Speaker 1: think because the league continues to evolve and things get
- 9:50Speaker 1: figured out. This one's taking a long time. But it's
- 9:54Speaker 1: just amazing to me what woosses some of these teams
- 9:57Speaker 1: are to sit back and say, we got to ban
- 9:59Speaker 1: this play because we don't like it, we don't like
- 10:02Speaker 1: being taken to school by Philly here, and I'm glad
- 10:06Speaker 1: we're gonna still continue to see it. I look, I
- 10:09Speaker 1: was on the record this past year during some of
- 10:12Speaker 1: our Eagles post game shows Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They have
- 10:15Speaker 1: stopped that play every now and again over the past
- 10:18Speaker 1: few years. It seems like certain personnel figured some things out,
- 10:21Speaker 1: or maybe the timing wasn't there by the Eagles, But
- 10:24Speaker 1: I thought it was getting figured out and wasn't going
- 10:26Speaker 1: to be as much of a tool for the Eagles
- 10:30Speaker 1: to convert first downs and also to score touchdowns.
- 10:33Speaker 2: But that kind of just went away.
- 10:35Speaker 1: My thought process on that just obviously went away because
- 10:38Speaker 1: it's still successful.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I just, of course I think we're all glad that
- 10:42Speaker 1: the play is still is still around, But it really
- 10:45Speaker 1: says a lot about NFL ownership, some of these teams, players, coaches,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and just what whisses they are when it comes to
- 10:51Speaker 1: something like this.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I mean there's so many thoughts. One, I always hear
- 10:56Speaker 3: about how much smarter the NFL is getting.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but yet.
- 10:59Speaker 3: How any Stonehenge defensive coordinators do? We have big rockheads
- 11:04Speaker 3: who can't figure out if it's just force against force? Yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 3: it's not that difficult. Like our quarterback and bench like
- 11:11Speaker 3: eight hundred pounds, and so can them running back and
- 11:14Speaker 3: he's put behind him pushing and it's legal and our
- 11:17Speaker 3: offensive lines massive, Yeah, go figure it out. Morons like
- 11:22Speaker 3: I don't understand, Like there's there's pure jealousy obviously because
- 11:26Speaker 3: other teams can't do it. I would love to see
- 11:28Speaker 3: a cross section of the twenty two nay votes and
- 11:34Speaker 3: what what are the dimensions of their quarterback? I mean,
- 11:37Speaker 3: what kind of bird chested, cinemastick leg quarterback do they
- 11:41Speaker 3: have that they can't do it themselves?
- 11:43Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:43Speaker 3: Like I'm assuming the Packers voted to know because their
- 11:47Speaker 3: quarterback is what six four, one hundred and fifty pounds.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Jordan, Yeah, he's small, believe. Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I would just like to see, like what what some
- 11:55Speaker 3: of these quarterbacks look like. And what's confusing to me
- 11:59Speaker 3: is like it's such a copycat league. Every year, multiple
- 12:04Speaker 3: teams pivot in terms of like concept for the season,
- 12:09Speaker 3: in terms of like offensive defense based on the previous
- 12:11Speaker 3: year or two and what championship teams have done. And
- 12:16Speaker 3: when you have like a Patrick Mahomes just Houdini on
- 12:21Speaker 3: the field, like winning the championship, you can't copy that, right, Like,
- 12:26Speaker 3: there's only one Patrick Mahomes in league. So I understand
- 12:28Speaker 3: why teams don't go like, well, we'll just drafted Patrick
- 12:30Speaker 3: Mahomes and put mediacre receivers bound and he'll figure it out, right, Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Whereas like with the tush push, it's like quarterbacks, huge,
- 12:39Speaker 3: huge offensive line, we get the ball in the one
- 12:41Speaker 3: yard line, we're pushing it in.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Why can't we figure that out?
- 12:45Speaker 3: Even if the quarterback can't squad eight hundred pounds, Why
- 12:49Speaker 3: don't you get a couple of linemen that are just
- 12:51Speaker 3: like Suma wrestlers and just copy what we're doing. It's
- 12:55Speaker 3: led us to a championship. But yet you want to
- 12:58Speaker 3: moan and groan not going to say it's like an
- 13:00Speaker 3: anti Philly Eagle thing whatever, it's just that that them
- 13:04Speaker 3: not copying, that makes no sense to me. Yeah, Like
- 13:07Speaker 3: I understand, like probably the old concept of football, like
- 13:11Speaker 3: you're not allowed to push from behind, Well they were
- 13:13Speaker 3: doing that shit way back in the fifties and stuff.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I watched old football.
- 13:17Speaker 3: It's like it's it's almost harkened to back those those
- 13:21Speaker 3: old days. And always always thought football love their history. Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 3: and it is a copycat league. That's why this bitterness
- 13:30Speaker 3: is really strange to me. This is one I don't
- 13:32Speaker 3: understand the twenty two nay votes and why they just
- 13:37Speaker 3: can't kind of copy for themselves.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very bizarre. And you also look at football too.
- 13:42Speaker 1: The other the other aspect of this that I've been
- 13:45Speaker 1: thinking about, Eric, is that you have NFL teams, You
- 13:49Speaker 1: have you have teams in general in sports that work
- 13:52Speaker 1: hard to do certain plays, to perform and generate certain
- 13:56Speaker 1: plays on the field, on the ice, on the court,
- 14:00Speaker 1: wherever it is. The Eagles have worked hard to implement
- 14:04Speaker 1: this play to get it where it is at right now.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And like you were just saying to piggyback off, what
- 14:08Speaker 1: you were just saying, why can't these other teams work
- 14:11Speaker 1: as hard one either to stop it or do it themselves.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Draft large offensive linemen, Draft some really big guys that
- 14:19Speaker 1: are athletic enough to do this. There are tons of
- 14:23Speaker 1: big guys in the NFL, but they can't do it
- 14:25Speaker 1: because they don't have the athleticism to do it. Jeff Stotlin,
- 14:29Speaker 1: when he is part of the Eagles draft room and evaluation,
- 14:32Speaker 1: coming into each draft, once athletic base guys that are big.
- 14:36Speaker 1: There's a reason why they selected Cam Jurgens to take
- 14:39Speaker 1: over Jason Kelsey's spot. There's a reason why Landon Dickerson
- 14:43Speaker 1: took over left guard after Isaac Saamalu left in free
- 14:46Speaker 1: agency and went to the Pittsburgh Steelers. These guys are
- 14:49Speaker 1: extremely athletic. Yes, they're big, just like every other offensive lineman,
- 14:53Speaker 1: but they're athletic and they've worked hard to perfect this
- 14:57Speaker 1: particular play and craft. And it's amazing to me that
- 15:01Speaker 1: the NFL would come down on a team that works hard,
- 15:06Speaker 1: works hard on a play to do it well, and
- 15:09Speaker 1: we'll try to punish them for it.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It's really bizarre to me.
- 15:13Speaker 3: It's jealousy, it's deceitfulness.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Nights. Yes, yeah, it really.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Is surprising to me, and I do one of the reasons,
- 15:28Speaker 3: I do think because of what I just stated, Like
- 15:31Speaker 3: it's such a copycat league.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Other teams could do it. The thing with the push
- 15:35Speaker 2: Push that's what.
- 15:36Speaker 3: We're calling it, right, Yeah, is it has a slogan,
- 15:39Speaker 3: it has a name, it gets it gets top billing
- 15:42Speaker 3: on ESPN whenever this story comes up.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's its own brand.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly, And it's really difficult to create a
- 15:48Speaker 3: brand around a single play anymore. Yeah, Like I'm sure
- 15:52Speaker 3: back in like fifty eight, the Statue of Liberty was
- 15:55Speaker 3: a big play, right, and every team did it, but
- 15:59Speaker 3: we I started it. It's called the tush Push. It's
- 16:03Speaker 3: our thing. It's the Eagles thing.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah, And there's gotta.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Be some jealousy and deceitfulness on the other owner's parts
- 16:10Speaker 3: that we started it and we branded it. And whenever
- 16:13Speaker 3: the stray comes up, it's always about the Eagles. It's
- 16:16Speaker 3: not about anybody else.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And the only other.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Side of the story is these is if you vote
- 16:21Speaker 3: against it, you're a whiny bitch. Yeah, it is kind
- 16:23Speaker 3: of what the other side of the story is. So
- 16:24Speaker 3: like I would just try and copy it to not
- 16:29Speaker 3: be on the whiny bitch side of the story.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, you make a really good point about this,
- 16:34Speaker 1: which I didn't think about the branding of this particular
- 16:37Speaker 1: play and the fact that no other team has a
- 16:40Speaker 1: branded play. And now this is actually the second Eagles
- 16:44Speaker 1: branded play. Now, let's not forget about the Philly Special.
- 16:49Speaker 1: There are two branded plays that the Philadelphia Eagles have
- 16:53Speaker 1: in their arsenal, an amazing brand. No other team has
- 16:57Speaker 1: it in the NFL. The Eagles have two of them
- 16:59Speaker 1: right now, the Special and the Push Push. There you go,
- 17:03Speaker 1: it's jealousy and deceitfulness.
- 17:07Speaker 3: But in other teams did the Philly Special. It's different
- 17:11Speaker 3: degrees because college football has been doing it for years.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and and and the.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Philly especially was just kind of a rip off, like
- 17:16Speaker 3: you know, like a text or sec SEC kind of play.
- 17:19Speaker 2: But this, this is very singular to the Eagles.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and I do think it's just a if we
- 17:24Speaker 3: do it, we're copycat. But I'd rather be a copycat
- 17:27Speaker 3: than a whiny bitch.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Like I said, this team shouldn't be able to do that,
- 17:31Speaker 2: but they are. So what are you gonna do now? Exactly?
- 17:35Speaker 3: At least your response to be like, we're gonna we're
- 17:37Speaker 3: gonna draft big defensive linemen to stop it. No, it's
- 17:39Speaker 3: just it's just this like whiny vote where you lose
- 17:43Speaker 3: and you look even worse that you couldn't win a
- 17:46Speaker 3: vote twenty all even it was twenty four votes. You
- 17:48Speaker 3: couldnt even get that.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Right, right, Yeah, unbelievable.
- 17:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, we have some other NFL news and
- 17:56Speaker 1: notes really cool that we wanted to get into really
- 17:58Speaker 1: quick here because I read on a recent newsletter or
- 18:02Speaker 1: something that news came out this week that the NFL
- 18:06Speaker 1: is going to allow its players to try out for
- 18:09Speaker 1: flag football at the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Wanted to give our.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Thoughts on this too, and apparently the idea from owners
- 18:21Speaker 1: to allow NFL players to do this. It's gonna help
- 18:24Speaker 1: the sport grow even more throughout the world. And apparently
- 18:28Speaker 1: this is gonna be a five on five sport. There's
- 18:30Speaker 1: gonna be one quarterback, one running back, three wide receivers.
- 18:33Speaker 1: One player from each NFL roster may try out for
- 18:38Speaker 1: the twenty twenty eight Olympic flag football team. Here, Eric,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I cannot imagine a member of the Philadelphia Eagles trying
- 18:47Speaker 1: out for this. Hypothetically speaking if AJ Brown's like, you
- 18:51Speaker 1: know what, I want to give this a shot. I
- 18:52Speaker 1: want to be an Olympian and he like tears his
- 18:55Speaker 1: acl or gets some sort of horrendous concussion berates his
- 19:00Speaker 1: shoulder because of flag football. I could not imagine something
- 19:05Speaker 1: like that happening. I wonder how many NFL players are
- 19:08Speaker 1: going to be doing this. I'm serious, I don't This
- 19:11Speaker 1: is crazy to me. It's really it's kind of nuts.
- 19:15Speaker 3: It's it's as dumb as getting her playing golf, which
- 19:19Speaker 3: is just the stupidest thing. Like whenever I have a
- 19:22Speaker 3: golf in dreaming, Like, what are you talking about? You
- 19:24Speaker 3: just standers swinging whatever. Man, And you know, you know
- 19:28Speaker 3: my feelings on golf. You should go out with Jay
- 19:32Speaker 3: and I sometimes what a waste of time. Not for
- 19:36Speaker 3: one second. This this is really dumb. I just I
- 19:42Speaker 3: understand what the NFL is trying. I'm sure the NFL
- 19:44Speaker 3: has something to do with this. Yeah, it's not as
- 19:46Speaker 3: just this didn't just come up in the Olympic heads
- 19:49Speaker 3: at like mines one day, like yeah, let's do five
- 19:52Speaker 3: on five flag football, Like there's no way. And I
- 19:57Speaker 3: think it's cute that there're like any player can try out,
- 19:59Speaker 3: like not not one single like starter, any on any
- 20:05Speaker 3: team is going to try out to try out for
- 20:07Speaker 3: this or like freaking yeah you are Jalen Hurts and
- 20:12Speaker 3: I'm going to try.
- 20:13Speaker 2: All is he going to try it?
- 20:17Speaker 4: Now?
- 20:17Speaker 2: Okay, your A J.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Brown comment is a good one, Like maybe he wants
- 20:21Speaker 3: to get a gold medal, you know, because he who
- 20:24Speaker 3: doesn't want to want to go metal.
- 20:26Speaker 2: For the country.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Right, But it's five it's in five on five flag football.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I'm not saying gold. Some gold medals aren't worth more
- 20:36Speaker 3: than others, but they certainly are. Let's just let's just
- 20:38Speaker 3: say it out loud. If you win the one hundred meters,
- 20:42Speaker 3: it is infinitely more important than a flag football gold medal.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Now you're compared to basketball, an NBA gold medal or
- 20:50Speaker 3: NBA sorry, a basketball gold medal in the Olympics is
- 20:53Speaker 3: kind of a big deal because the rest of the
- 20:55Speaker 3: world is so damn good at basketball now, like the
- 20:58Speaker 3: Spain porch, like there's so many good Argentina. There's really
- 21:02Speaker 3: damn good teams. It's it's a legit competition, like look
- 21:05Speaker 3: at look at the last time in the US played
- 21:08Speaker 3: France in the finals, like that was outrageously a fantastic
- 21:12Speaker 3: game to Steph Curry making like crazy. If I'm just
- 21:14Speaker 3: saying like that is one thing. This is not football. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 3: this is the kind of football kids play before they
- 21:21Speaker 3: start tackling, like seventh grade. I I I'll say this though,
- 21:25Speaker 3: I had the thought when I read the topic, if
- 21:28Speaker 3: you're if you're on the cusp of the roster, say
- 21:32Speaker 3: for the any team, right, yeah, I am trying out
- 21:36Speaker 3: for this with all my might to see if I
- 21:39Speaker 3: can make the team, because what a story. No way
- 21:42Speaker 3: a team's going to cut you. If you make this
- 21:45Speaker 3: flag football team for the US and you win a
- 21:48Speaker 3: gold medal, right yes, and you're on a small contract,
- 21:52Speaker 3: you might get resigned.
- 21:54Speaker 2: There's no way.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Even that team didn't sign, You're gonna get signed somewhere
- 21:57Speaker 3: for at least two.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Years, and you can use that. You can use those
- 22:01Speaker 2: two years.
- 22:01Speaker 3: To to make tons of money in advertising, try to
- 22:06Speaker 3: make much money from the NFL as possible. If I'm
- 22:09Speaker 3: like a fringe player, I'm I'm going all out for this.
- 22:12Speaker 3: If I'm not sure if my NFL future, this is
- 22:14Speaker 3: this is probably the way to go.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're probably You're probably right, and uh it's
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm I'm actually going to be interested, and that's what
- 22:23Speaker 1: pisses me off. I'm actually going to be interested in
- 22:25Speaker 1: watching this in twenty twenty eight, at least one game
- 22:29Speaker 1: to see what it's like.
- 22:30Speaker 2: There's gonna be other countries playing. It'll be interesting to
- 22:32Speaker 2: see how they do.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Okay, how's Norway gonna do against the US? Like seriously,
- 22:40Speaker 3: I know, I don't I don't know. I don't know, but.
- 22:46Speaker 2: It's for this I don't know.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I have no clue. And like there's one quarterback, one
- 22:51Speaker 3: running behind you, right, and there's three receivers out. Yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 3: I guess other countries could do well because there's not
- 22:57Speaker 3: a ton of planning. You just kind of get it
- 22:59Speaker 3: and throw the ball quick. I guess rugby players could
- 23:01Speaker 3: do Okay.
- 23:01Speaker 2: They could, Australia might rugby teams.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but what what is Pakistan going to do against
- 23:08Speaker 3: the United States? I don't understand, Like, yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Who knows, Like Japan, you know they're going to have
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, I mean India.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You're right, who knows what these teams are going to
- 23:21Speaker 2: do with this?
- 23:22Speaker 1: It?
- 23:22Speaker 2: Actually they might love football. I have no clue.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just I'm just thinking of like the teams
- 23:27Speaker 3: that only do soccer football in their country, right. I
- 23:30Speaker 3: can't imagine they are going to do very well in this.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So well, we are going to be taking a break here, folks,

- 24:22Speaker 1: being said, we're gonna take a quick break to pay
- 24:24Speaker 1: some bills. We are gonna be back in just a bit.
- 24:28Speaker 1: All right, We're back here and Eric we got to
- 24:31Speaker 1: dive into this NBA postseason here, and a little bit
- 24:35Speaker 1: of Sixers talk as well. Before we get into the
- 24:38Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies. Let's get in some predictions here for how
- 24:42Speaker 1: this Eastern Conference Finals are gonna go and the Western
- 24:45Speaker 1: Conference Finals as well. I think both of these series
- 24:50Speaker 1: are gonna go seven games. I'm just gonna say that
- 24:52Speaker 1: right off the bat. I think you and I are
- 24:54Speaker 1: gonna differ in terms of who we think is going
- 24:56Speaker 1: to win the Eastern Conference Finals. I am going with
- 25:00Speaker 1: the New York Knicks, and I think you're gonna be
- 25:03Speaker 1: going with the Pacers if I'm not mistaken here, Look,
- 25:07Speaker 1: both teams look fantastic, and I think for me, with
- 25:12Speaker 1: the Knicks, they were undoubtedly good during the regular season,
- 25:17Speaker 1: far far from dominant. With I think they had like
- 25:21Speaker 1: something like a fifteen and thirteen record after the All
- 25:23Speaker 1: Star break, they generally beat the teams they were supposed to,
- 25:28Speaker 1: but they have gotten hot and have been on fire
- 25:32Speaker 1: during the course of this postseason here. I think momentum
- 25:35Speaker 1: is on their side, one of the reasons why I'm
- 25:38Speaker 1: picking them. So No, that wasn't the great analysis in
- 25:41Speaker 1: the entire world, but look, I'll let you. I'll let
- 25:45Speaker 1: you talk about your prediction here, because I think you
- 25:48Speaker 1: got the Pacers correct.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I like the Pacers and seven. And that has nothing
- 25:52Speaker 3: to do with the fact that they're up three and
- 25:53Speaker 3: overtime right now. Okay, with fifteen seconds I'm watching on
- 25:57Speaker 3: my phone right now.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow again.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Our friend Dave is a lifetime Knicks fan, Yes, longtime
- 26:03Speaker 3: friends of our friend of ours. He's got to be
- 26:06Speaker 3: shitting his pants right now. I feel really bad for Davis.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I know this sucks, and I would love to take
- 26:11Speaker 3: the Knicks, but I just think the Pacers are a
- 26:12Speaker 3: better team top to bottom.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I think there.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I think their path to the conference finals was tougher
- 26:18Speaker 3: than the Knicks. I think the Celtics are a damn
- 26:21Speaker 3: good team. But the Pacers has just wiped out the Calves,
- 26:25Speaker 3: the top seed and one of the best teams in
- 26:27Speaker 3: basketball all year long. Yeah, and I think people just
- 26:29Speaker 3: kind of like, yeah, but at the Pacers, it's like, dude,
- 26:33Speaker 3: they crushed the Calves, you know, and like just just
- 26:36Speaker 3: completely eviscerated them.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Yeah, You've got a player like Tyr's Haliburton as well,
- 26:42Speaker 1: who he's had like two winning shots too, like he
- 26:48Speaker 1: basically game winning shots. In the postseason, he's averaging like
- 26:51Speaker 1: seventeen point five points per game, five point five rebounds,
- 26:55Speaker 1: playoff high nine point three assists, which I mean, he's
- 27:00Speaker 1: part of that relentless offense that the Pacers do have.
- 27:04Speaker 1: But you know, you also look at what Jalen Brunson
- 27:07Speaker 1: has done, his consistency over over over these games within
- 27:12Speaker 1: this postseason, and he's another reason why I think the
- 27:15Speaker 1: Knicks can actually get to that next next level, along
- 27:18Speaker 1: with Karl Anthony Towns too. I mean, the chemistry I
- 27:22Speaker 1: think that the Knicks have here during the postseason. I
- 27:25Speaker 1: just wasn't expecting it. Like I said, they they weren't.
- 27:30Speaker 1: They weren't killing it. They were they were a middling
- 27:32Speaker 1: team after the All Star break. You know, they weren't
- 27:35Speaker 1: killing it. I wasn't even sure that they were gonna
- 27:36Speaker 1: get past the first round, to be honest with you.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But now the chemistry really seems to be there from
- 27:41Speaker 1: that postseason standpoint, again, another reason why I'm picking them. So, yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you want to move over to the West here and well,
- 27:50Speaker 1: just real quick, yeah, I mean they're gonna win. PACER's
- 27:53Speaker 1: gonna win by three points. That's a massive Game one victory.
- 27:57Speaker 1: They were down seven points in the fourth quarter of
- 27:59Speaker 1: two minutes left.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you can come back and win by three points
- 28:02Speaker 3: in overtime in MSG which that place had to be
- 28:05Speaker 3: insane tonight, and to go in and just rip the
- 28:08Speaker 3: heart out of those fans like that, that is a
- 28:11Speaker 3: tough place to start for the Knicks in Game two,
- 28:15Speaker 3: and just real quick and looking at the box score,
- 28:17Speaker 3: like the Pacers have been doing this all postseason. They
- 28:20Speaker 3: have seven guys in double digit scoring. They have guys
- 28:24Speaker 3: like Ben Mathurin he didn't really do well tonight offensively
- 28:27Speaker 3: with him and Nemhart and Naysmith, they are just mean
- 28:32Speaker 3: and nasty players, kind of like the Pistons have. But
- 28:34Speaker 3: they also have scoring unlike the Pistons did, and they,
- 28:38Speaker 3: like the Knicks, can oftentimes become just the towns brunts
- 28:42Speaker 3: and show.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And that's kind of what happened tonight.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Like they didn't score a whole ton of points beyond
- 28:46Speaker 3: those two, whereas Indiana kind of spread it out across
- 28:49Speaker 3: seven players. I just think they're the more well balanced team,
- 28:52Speaker 3: and this is a huge game. If I knew this,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I'd probably pick them in six games to be honest
- 28:57Speaker 3: with you because the six game, the sixth game is
- 28:59Speaker 3: in Indiana.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I could say it. Look, I can say it.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I really could that. My gut was telling me Nicks.
- 29:07Speaker 1: But of course, after this game won, I mean, wouldn't
- 29:09Speaker 1: surprise me at all if the Pacers won in uh
- 29:12Speaker 1: in six games? What about? What about in the West?
- 29:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'm thinking we're both gonna be on the
- 29:16Speaker 1: same page. Okay see, after they completely demolished the Tea Wolves,
- 29:21Speaker 1: my god, I mean, they just absolutely murdered I I'm
- 29:26Speaker 1: thinking that series was gonna go in seven games. That
- 29:29Speaker 1: actually could go in six, But I was initially thinking
- 29:31Speaker 1: seven games because I mean, we saw what the Tea
- 29:33Speaker 1: Wolves have done so far this postseason and very formidable.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But man, after last night's ass whooping, I don't know,
- 29:42Speaker 1: that may have taken something out of the t Wolves,
- 29:44Speaker 1: you know, some steam out of their engine there.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and and the fact that, okay see, took them
- 29:52Speaker 3: seven games beat Denver. On the surface, You're like, man,
- 29:56Speaker 3: they should have beat them in five games. But Denver
- 29:58Speaker 3: has Yo Kich, Denver has playoff pedigree. And the fact
- 30:03Speaker 3: that you know they they came back from from game six.
- 30:08Speaker 3: We you know loss to to then win game seven,
- 30:12Speaker 3: you know yea, And the way they won game seven,
- 30:15Speaker 3: they just wiped Denver off the court and that like
- 30:18Speaker 3: when they lost game six, I think I text you
- 30:20Speaker 3: guys after like during game six, I'm like, Okay, so
- 30:24Speaker 3: he's gonna have to like grow some balls here or
- 30:26Speaker 3: this is going to be one of those classics, like
- 30:28Speaker 3: Jordan's not ready to.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Beat the Pistons yet, right, And Pistons weren't ready.
- 30:32Speaker 3: To beat the Lakers yet, like that whole or of
- 30:33Speaker 3: the Celtics, right, Yeah, And like then they came out
- 30:36Speaker 3: in Game seven and won by like thirty five points. Yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 3: in Game seven, and then the t Wolves have time
- 30:42Speaker 3: to prepare and rest and they're up by four points
- 30:46Speaker 3: in the third quarter. Okay, see makes one adjustment, maybe
- 30:48Speaker 3: two defensively, they went they went small, really smart, and
- 30:52Speaker 3: because Nasrieve's been.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Playing like shit, so why not go small, And.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Within like ten minutes, ten minutes of real time, they're
- 30:59Speaker 3: up ten and then they go on to win by
- 31:01Speaker 3: almost thirty points, down four in the middle of the
- 31:04Speaker 3: third quarter, just with simple adjustments.
- 31:07Speaker 2: They just have way more personnel.
- 31:09Speaker 3: They have way more draft pick, Like they're just a
- 31:11Speaker 3: better run franchise, but like the personnel. Now, what's scary
- 31:16Speaker 3: about them is like say they go on to just
- 31:18Speaker 3: destroy the Tea. I think they're gonna be I think
- 31:20Speaker 3: win the beat up the Taals by like play five games,
- 31:23Speaker 3: is playing my prediction. I didn't like how I didn't
- 31:26Speaker 3: like how the Taals looked at all, Andrew Anthony Edwards
- 31:30Speaker 3: overturn his ankle, didn't like how his shooting was going.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Julius Randall was holding them up. And I never trust
- 31:36Speaker 3: Julius Randall for as much as like like far as
- 31:38Speaker 3: I can throw them. But just just watching that first game,
- 31:41Speaker 3: I'm like, man, this is good. This feels like just
- 31:45Speaker 3: full example in front of me, Like what's gonna happen
- 31:47Speaker 3: this whole series, like the Tales could not just stay
- 31:50Speaker 3: with Oka se and okay, see is so frightening. If
- 31:52Speaker 3: they go and win the title this year, which I
- 31:54Speaker 3: think they're going to, I think so yeah. They have
- 31:57Speaker 3: draft picks, capital money around that they could with all
- 32:02Speaker 3: of the teams, Like on the second Apron they owe
- 32:05Speaker 3: two in a million dollars in tax money next year.
- 32:07Speaker 3: This team's like destined to go like five six years
- 32:11Speaker 3: with this squad. If they want to, and they don't
- 32:13Speaker 3: want to, they'll just draft somebody else, pay them less.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Money and do just as well. As long as you
- 32:18Speaker 2: keep like the stars around.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we maybe this may be the beginning of a dynasty.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And look, look, Jalen Williams is probably pissed off because
- 32:25Speaker 1: the NBA fined him twenty five thousand dollars for the
- 32:28Speaker 1: T shirt thing.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Jesus, I think after last night's performance in the contract,
- 32:33Speaker 3: he's gonna get.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Like, yeah, he is a beast.
- 32:36Speaker 3: They just have beasts up and down the roster. This
- 32:38Speaker 3: guy's playing fifteen minutes. I'm like he should play thirty.
- 32:41Speaker 3: He played thirty minutes for the Sixers.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt, Yes, exactly exactly.
- 32:45Speaker 1: It's it's you look at where these teams are and
- 32:48Speaker 1: where the Sixers are at, and it's a good segue into.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Where that was on purpose.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Yeah, where the Sixers are going to be going. Look,
- 32:55Speaker 1: the number three overall pick nothing to sneeze about.
- 32:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 32:58Speaker 1: The debate is you know who they're gonna take. Is
- 33:00Speaker 1: it actually gonna be Ace Bailey? Are they gonna trade
- 33:03Speaker 1: the pick? I don't think, just based on reports that
- 33:06Speaker 1: have come out, I don't think the Sixers are going
- 33:09Speaker 1: to trade the pick, and I don't think they're gonna
- 33:11Speaker 1: trade it for some star veteran player like kdfact to
- 33:14Speaker 1: our friend of the show, Sean Bernard, and I were
- 33:16Speaker 1: talking about it this past week on the Table Talk show.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You can go back and check out that podcast. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: don't think that's gonna happen. I think this team wants
- 33:24Speaker 1: to start thinking younger. And maybe that's just my thought
- 33:28Speaker 1: process on this Eric, because they have to get younger
- 33:31Speaker 1: when you have Paul George and joellenbi I feel like
- 33:33Speaker 1: Embiad's been around for thirty years at this point, and
- 33:36Speaker 1: his body certainly probably feels like he's been in the
- 33:39Speaker 1: league for thirty years at this point, but.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Been it's been twelve years, it has twenty fourteen.
- 33:46Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, so at this point you have to
- 33:49Speaker 1: have more of that young core nucleus. Jared McCain, Tyre MAXI,
- 33:55Speaker 1: you bring in possibly Ace Bailey. You know that that
- 33:59Speaker 1: is a pretty sweet core for the future.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Now, is it?
- 34:04Speaker 1: Tyrese Haliburton level is a Jalen Brunson level. Probably not,
- 34:08Speaker 1: But any other type of acquisitions that are made, if
- 34:13Speaker 1: if Darryl moy is smart here. I mean, the question is,
- 34:17Speaker 1: could the Sixers actually make a push next season for
- 34:23Speaker 1: I don't know, probably the playoffs, probably, but I don't know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: could they make a push next season, you know, based
- 34:30Speaker 1: on what happens during this offseason with acquisitions.
- 34:34Speaker 3: I mean, if you mean a push, like to actually
- 34:37Speaker 3: be in the playoffs, yeah, I mean that would be
- 34:39Speaker 3: considered a push, right, considering how.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Awful they were this year. Yeah, I think that's totally possible. Yeah.
- 34:46Speaker 3: What the biggest thing about winning number three is now
- 34:50Speaker 3: they have at least some leverage to maybe do some
- 34:53Speaker 3: things right.
- 34:54Speaker 2: They're pretty well capped out.
- 34:55Speaker 3: The money is just absurd and beads extenses even Kekenya,
- 35:00Speaker 3: it's the worst extension history. Paul George makes more money
- 35:04Speaker 3: than Durant. I was looking at that over the next
- 35:07Speaker 3: three years.
- 35:07Speaker 2: It's outrageous.
- 35:09Speaker 3: But I'm not going to focus on that, like focus
- 35:11Speaker 3: on the young to get the number three pick save
- 35:14Speaker 3: the season, honestly, the upcoming It's saved the entire tank
- 35:17Speaker 3: and the upcoming season because they if it had gone
- 35:20Speaker 3: to okay, see at number seven, we wouldn't even talking
- 35:22Speaker 3: about the sixtions right now.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Be a joke. Yep.
- 35:26Speaker 3: The So the thing I like about is they do
- 35:28Speaker 3: have leverage to make a trade if they wanted to.
- 35:30Speaker 3: So they have three, they have the young players, they
- 35:33Speaker 3: have the Clippers future first round picks. I mean, who
- 35:36Speaker 3: knows how long that team's going to go. Kawhi could
- 35:39Speaker 3: get hurt and that team could be shit. But I
- 35:42Speaker 3: the what I do kind of what I'm hoping Morey does.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I kind of don't want him to sit at three
- 35:49Speaker 3: and just take Ace Bailey. Really, okay, I Ace Bailey
- 35:54Speaker 3: scares me. Ace Bailey for some reason, to me is
- 35:56Speaker 3: like the ultimate wild card. I think he has the
- 36:00Speaker 3: biggest potential for bust out of the top five. Wow, okay,
- 36:03Speaker 3: all right, just because of the way he plays.
- 36:06Speaker 2: He doesn't play defense. I know he's young.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I'm just you know, whatever, he can learn to play defense, right,
- 36:12Speaker 3: Why didn't he play it at all? Rutgers didn't one
- 36:15Speaker 3: lick at defense. I know he was in a shitty offense,
- 36:18Speaker 3: but he still put a eighteen points. Again his game
- 36:21Speaker 3: just I don't know, he's a long wing, he shoots well.
- 36:26Speaker 3: He just has like busty potential. I think more He's
- 36:30Speaker 3: probably more in love with VJ. Edgecomb from from Baylor
- 36:34Speaker 3: in terms of today's NBA. He's six', five one hundred
- 36:38Speaker 3: and ninety, pounds ridiculous, athlete can get to the rim
- 36:42Speaker 3: like Your Jalen brunson's Your Tyree saliburton's. Right he's more
- 36:46Speaker 3: in line with what THE nba.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Does.
- 36:48Speaker 3: NOW i know we HAVE i know we Have maxi and.
- 36:50Speaker 3: McCain McCain's a shooter And edgecomb can. Shoot WHAT i
- 36:55Speaker 3: like to do is either they just sit and Take
- 36:57Speaker 3: Edge comb of three or the teams that kind of
- 37:01Speaker 3: fell out of the top three or four and are
- 37:03Speaker 3: just kicking themselves, now like A utah or The. Pelicans,
- 37:07Speaker 3: right they have they have some like they have some
- 37:10Speaker 3: good veteran players but still. Young just trade out from
- 37:14Speaker 3: like number three to like number seven for like A Herb,
- 37:17Speaker 3: jones like throwing LIKE i heard this trade multiple, places
- 37:22Speaker 3: like trade number three In Kelly ubrey For Herb jones
- 37:25Speaker 3: and number seven you still Get Trey, johnson a good,
- 37:28Speaker 3: guard good shooting, guard you get the kid to do,
- 37:30Speaker 3: canoeble and you Get Herb jones's an elite. Defender he's
- 37:34Speaker 3: proven in THE nba average like fifteen, points could shoot the,
- 37:37Speaker 3: three but a phenomenal defender a better version Of Paul
- 37:40Speaker 3: george Than Paul george is. Now but something like that
- 37:43Speaker 3: or even Like lori marketing from from The utah from number,
- 37:45Speaker 3: six like just swap, It like you're not going to
- 37:48Speaker 3: go wrong with bringing in a really good you, say.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Veteran these kids. Are they're like twenty, six twenty seven years.
- 37:54Speaker 3: OLD i know, so and you're still going to get
- 37:57Speaker 3: a six or seventh pick of the. Draft that's what
- 37:59Speaker 3: number three did for this, franchise AND i think that's
- 38:01Speaker 3: what's going to vault them into the.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Playoffs it's not gonna be an. EMBIID i don't.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Think you even see him be next year until like
- 38:08Speaker 3: he had knee surgery at thirty a few months. Ago
- 38:13Speaker 3: what did we Give Paul george The Ghost like what
- 38:15Speaker 3: the fuck was?
- 38:16Speaker 2: It The Ghost?
- 38:16Speaker 3: Award, look we had no idea who he, is where
- 38:19Speaker 3: he's where he, is what he's. Doing i'm just looking
- 38:21Speaker 3: at the core and doesn't involve those two the most
- 38:24Speaker 3: expensive guys in the.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Team so we're fucked in that.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Regard but LIKE i do think with the team they
- 38:31Speaker 3: have With, maxi with whatever they bring in and McCain
- 38:34Speaker 3: and like the pieces they have they could probably make
- 38:36Speaker 3: the playoffs because The east is gonna be worse next
- 38:37Speaker 3: years Because jest goes to The, west even worse than
- 38:42Speaker 3: you can. Imagine, yes absolutely no and no No tatum next. Year,
- 38:46Speaker 3: yeah absolutely, yeah getting all emotional.
- 38:48Speaker 2: There oh my, gosh the microphone.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Were the finals next?
- 38:51Speaker 2: Year oh my. Gosh all, right great.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Discussion let's move on before we get to our interview
- 38:57Speaker 1: and discussion this week With Liz roscher from The hit
- 38:59Speaker 1: And season. Podcast talk about This phillies team as we
- 39:03Speaker 1: close things up here before the. Break this is a
- 39:05Speaker 1: team that's sitting in first place in THE Nl east right.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Now just want to give some quick thoughts on what
- 39:11Speaker 1: we've seen from this, team how the season is going thus.
- 39:13Speaker 2: FAR i, mean there was.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Sight i'm gonna get into this With liz of course,
- 39:16Speaker 1: too but so many questions even from a pitching. Standpoint
- 39:20Speaker 1: the pitching has certainly seemed to. Stabilize from the starting pitching,
- 39:22Speaker 1: standpoint the bullpen still so many. QUESTIONS i feel, like you,
- 39:26Speaker 1: know there's they just don't have a good handle on,
- 39:29Speaker 1: things and especially after Now Jose alvarado with his, suspension
- 39:33Speaker 1: what the heck is gonna? Happen like the whole next
- 39:35Speaker 1: man up theme is gonna be very prevalent over these
- 39:38Speaker 1: next weeks and. Months who is gonna step. Up the trade,
- 39:42Speaker 1: deadline of, course is gonna BE i, think very imperative
- 39:45Speaker 1: in terms of the. Bullpen they're gonna need to bring
- 39:47Speaker 1: in some sort of, Piece, Eric but, overall this is
- 39:51Speaker 1: a team that's playing, well and LIKE i feel like
- 39:54Speaker 1: there's not the excitement that there should. Be they're in
- 39:57Speaker 1: first place in THE nl right. Now The mets have
- 40:01Speaker 1: faltered a little bit here and there over the past,
- 40:03Speaker 1: week week and a half or, so and it's this
- 40:07Speaker 1: team has been. Consistent they're beating teams that they need
- 40:10Speaker 1: to beat as. Well that's a key component of baseball in.
- 40:14Speaker 1: General The phillies are having a darn good season in
- 40:17Speaker 1: my opinion so, Far.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Jeff they're the top team in The National. League, yes,
- 40:23Speaker 3: yeah Second detroit in all of. BASEBALL i, KNOW i.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Feel like the fan base like isn't there, though you
- 40:29Speaker 1: know WHAT i? Mean, LIKE i feel like there's sectors
- 40:32Speaker 1: of this fan base you're, like, man they should be
- 40:33Speaker 1: a bit more dominant and, stuff and you kind of
- 40:36Speaker 1: hear it and see it and then, yes it's on
- 40:37Speaker 1: Stupid twitter AND x but, man.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Shut the just shut the fuck.
- 40:41Speaker 3: UP i, MEAN i know this is A philly sports
- 40:44Speaker 3: show for the, fans but shut the fuck. Up YEAH i,
- 40:46Speaker 3: know but that's what the show's, About like like, hooray
- 40:50Speaker 3: horay or shut the fuck.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Up like it's just.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Yeah BUT i Mean i'm going through the stats right
- 40:56Speaker 3: now as a. TEAM i, mean for all the complaining
- 40:59Speaker 3: we do about trade, turns, right he's averine, three he's
- 41:04Speaker 3: our top.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Hitter it's not him.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Close, Yes schwarber's Having Babe ruth type home run, numbers.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Which by the, way for his age in his, career
- 41:11Speaker 1: he's like had this, resurgence like this second resurgence of his.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Career it's. Incredible let's just not test his. Blood let's
- 41:18Speaker 2: just let it. Go let.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Ride i'm not saying there's nothing, happening but, YEAH i just.
- 41:23Speaker 3: INCREDIBLE casti has been. Solid stottonbaum are finally like kind
- 41:27Speaker 3: of heating up a little, Bit thank The lord for For,
- 41:33Speaker 3: Wheelers lozardo And. SANCHEZ i, mean our starters are Just
- 41:38Speaker 3: Aaron nola's. Done APPARENTLY i didn't get the memo that he's.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Cooked his career is. Over he has been horrendous this.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Year.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Like like Like John lieber two thousand and seven, bad
- 41:52Speaker 3: two thousand and six, bad like the. Worst He's he's,
- 41:56Speaker 3: Horrendous like everything he goes out, There i'm, like should
- 41:59Speaker 3: we do?
- 42:00Speaker 2: THIS i wonder How, yeah how long is he going
- 42:02Speaker 2: to be on the entail walker pitch? Instead? Yes, WALKER
- 42:05Speaker 2: i know because he's. Playing he is pitching well this,
- 42:09Speaker 2: year he absolutely.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Is AND i mean and EVEN i mean Swore as
- 42:13Speaker 3: his pitching, poorly but he also had some injuries like
- 42:16Speaker 3: maybe he'll bring it.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Back but but.
- 42:19Speaker 3: You're right, THOUGH i, mean Besides strom and Besides, alvarado
- 42:23Speaker 3: who we're not going to see you seem no. MORE i,
- 42:27Speaker 3: mean they they don't have much in the way of
- 42:29Speaker 3: pitching like they're gonna have like if Can painter come
- 42:32Speaker 3: up and do some starting down the?
- 42:33Speaker 2: Road can they able kid do it? Again?
- 42:39Speaker 3: Yes and and and can they make some moves for
- 42:42Speaker 3: some bullpen relief because they're gonna need it now with
- 42:45Speaker 3: With alvarado. Gone but they just have this is kind
- 42:48Speaker 3: of like that, consistency like that that veteran, consistency and
- 42:52Speaker 3: the young guys are starting to heat, up like this
- 42:54Speaker 3: is kind of what you. Expected offensively And it does
- 42:57Speaker 3: help that you play The rockies And pirates back to,
- 42:58Speaker 3: back but still you're supposed to beat the shit out
- 43:01Speaker 3: of those teams and they, did so you're the second
- 43:05Speaker 3: best team in.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Baseball i'm not.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Going to, complain all, right exactly like how many games
- 43:10Speaker 3: into the season for, Yeah, like.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Don't complain about, it folks that quit being jerk.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Offs, LISTEN i had the sixers all year and you't.
- 43:22Speaker 2: CONSISTENT i, no, NO i don't want to hear. It
- 43:24Speaker 2: it's not not.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Cool, like all, right, well, Buddy i'm gonna let you.

- 43:35Speaker 2: Podcast, yeah she was the writer For Yahoo sports as. Well,
- 43:40Speaker 2: yeah but now she works For. Saber like IS nasa? Next?
- 43:43Speaker 2: Like what is what is going on with?
- 43:45Speaker 4: Her?
- 43:45Speaker 1: UH i know her resume is fantastic at this. Point
- 43:48Speaker 1: stupid Stupid Yahoo sports let her go for some. Reason
- 43:51Speaker 1: now she's With. Saber it's freaking. Awesome it's.
- 43:54Speaker 3: FUN i think the first time we would talk to,
- 43:56Speaker 3: HER i she AND i realized we're at the Same

- 44:05Speaker 3: Yeah now she like she would, uh she'd be in
- 44:07Speaker 3: a luxury. BOOTH i wouldn't be allowed near.
- 44:09Speaker 1: It probably next you'd be, like, hey this Is eric
- 44:14Speaker 1: from The philadelphia sports.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Table she'd, say get him out of. Here do you
- 44:19Speaker 2: have my? Drink i'm at the, Waiter get out of,

- 44:38Speaker 1: gonna be saying some metal.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Stuff just say the name of the, Band Jeff, obituary.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Folks, yes we couldn't really see the name of the
- 44:45Speaker 3: last band we went and.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Saw we really. Couldn't eric can barely wear THE t
- 44:49Speaker 2: shirt he GOT i weard around the. House, yes my
- 44:54Speaker 2: kids seeing me, like, oh dad's wearing his shirt.
- 44:58Speaker 3: Again it says, dirty dirty things on.
- 45:01Speaker 1: It so, yes, Buddy i'll see in a few days
- 45:05Speaker 1: at the, show and we're gonna take a quick. Break everyone,
- 45:08Speaker 1: here And i'm gonna pay some. Bills we're gonna be
- 45:11Speaker 1: back in just a.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Bit and now on the, table.
- 45:18Speaker 1: All, right and joining us now to talk about This
- 45:21Speaker 1: Philadelphia phillies, team how this season has been, going and
- 45:24Speaker 1: to get into a robust discussion about who are The Philadelphia.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Phillies we have from The hit And season, podcast and
- 45:33Speaker 1: she's over AT saber as. Well if you don't know,
- 45:36Speaker 1: folks WHAT saber, is it is The society For American Baseball.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Research she's. Fantastic we love having. Her Ms Liz, Rocher
- 45:44Speaker 1: how you, Doing?
- 45:45Speaker 4: Liz i'm doing.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Great how are? You i'm doing all.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Right i've been enjoying the season to, believe believe it or,
- 45:50Speaker 1: not i'd be ups and. Downs they're in first place right.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Now how can we not enjoy the season with my?
- 45:56Speaker 4: Goodness it's.
- 45:59Speaker 2: This looks.
- 45:59Speaker 4: Good, YES i mean they're not playing The, yankees but
- 46:03Speaker 4: you know they're supposed to beat bad. Teams that's the
- 46:05Speaker 4: point we're supposed to. Do but allowed to enjoy.
- 46:07Speaker 1: That it was like last year when they had that,
- 46:10Speaker 1: amazing you, know first half of the.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Season so they're, like, well they're they're beating bad.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Team, well, yes good teams are supposed to beat bad,
- 46:17Speaker 1: teams and when you're playing a good, team it's supposed
- 46:19Speaker 1: to be a competitive.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Game that's what's supposed to happen in, sports.
- 46:23Speaker 4: Right that's exactly.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Right, gosh all.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Right, well let's get into the topic in the theme, Here,
- 46:30Speaker 1: liz which, is you, know who are The phillies? Here
- 46:34Speaker 1: because there are questions about who and what aspects of this.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Team you know who they, are what their identity. Is
- 46:40Speaker 1: but of course we need to really talk about the
- 46:43Speaker 1: bullpen because of the big story from this past, week of,
- 46:46Speaker 1: course talking About Jose alvarado his, suspension what it means
- 46:50Speaker 1: for This phillies bullpen and the team. Overall it's a huge,
- 46:53Speaker 1: loss to say the. LEAST i know you all have
- 46:56Speaker 1: talked about it over at The hit And season podcast,
- 46:58Speaker 1: already tons of other folks talking about this as, well
- 47:02Speaker 1: in terms of not just how it affects The, phillies
- 47:04Speaker 1: how it may affect THE Nl, east and just where
- 47:06Speaker 1: this team goes in the. FUTURE i, mean we can
- 47:09Speaker 1: assume they're probably gonna be looking to acquire a closer
- 47:12Speaker 1: before the trade day at. Deadline at this, point who.
- 47:15Speaker 1: KNOWS i think they probably will wondering what are your
- 47:18Speaker 1: Thoughts lis on what happens with the bullpen as a
- 47:20Speaker 1: result Of alvarado's suspension.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Here, well the news isn't. Amazing i'd say there's some
- 47:29Speaker 4: guys that we don't really. Trust Tanner BANKS i think
- 47:34Speaker 4: has been a little bit better of, late BUT i
- 47:36Speaker 4: don't trust, him Right Orian, kirkering he's still having a rough. Time,
- 47:41Speaker 4: uh let's. See Matt straw has been a little bit.
- 47:43Speaker 4: Steadier he's been looking. Good but you know There's Joe.
- 47:46Speaker 4: ROSS i keep forgetting who that.
- 47:48Speaker 2: IS i know me.
- 47:49Speaker 4: TOO i don't Think i've Seen Carlos hernandez in like
- 47:52Speaker 4: a week and a.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Half it's been a. While.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Yep i'm looking at some of the other names on
- 47:55Speaker 4: The baseball Ref is just to make SURE i get,
- 47:57Speaker 4: Anybody And i'm, like who Is Matt? BLAZAAR i don't
- 48:01Speaker 4: know who that. IS i doubt in one.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Game one game that's. It we're probably gonna end up
- 48:05Speaker 2: seeing him maybe a little bit.
- 48:07Speaker 1: More who knows what's gonna happen, Here but, like this
- 48:10Speaker 1: is significant not Having alvarado in the in this.
- 48:12Speaker 4: Bullpen, yeah he was the one guy that you knew
- 48:16Speaker 4: That Rob thompson, trusted even if he sometimes gave you
- 48:19Speaker 4: reasons not. To he was the one guy That thompson always, trusted,
- 48:23Speaker 4: Yes and he was the guy he'd always slot at
- 48:25Speaker 4: the at the end of the game or if it
- 48:27Speaker 4: was a real difficult seventh or, eight then he'd call
- 48:30Speaker 4: him in then because he knew That alvarado's speed could
- 48:33Speaker 4: get it done if he could just overcome the control.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Issues right, now things aren't quite as quite As. Rosie
- 48:41Speaker 4: it's hard to figure out who's going to slot in where,
- 48:45Speaker 4: Right and LIKE I i don't Think Rob thompson has
- 48:49Speaker 4: been too strict over the past couple of years about bullpen.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Rolls like he has a couple of GUYS i remember
- 48:54Speaker 4: from last year in the year, before if you guys
- 48:56Speaker 4: he'd like to use near the end of the. GAME
- 48:58Speaker 4: a few guys he'd, use you, know if if a
- 49:00Speaker 4: start was, short one or two, guys you'd be okay
- 49:03Speaker 4: with long. Relief and it's it's a little bit more
- 49:07Speaker 4: amorphous this. Year it's just it's a little it's a
- 49:10Speaker 4: big wobbled jello thing.
- 49:12Speaker 1: AND i feel like it's it's throw something against the
- 49:15Speaker 1: wall here at this particular point in, time during the,
- 49:17Speaker 1: game and let's see if it. STICKS i feel like
- 49:19Speaker 1: we're seeing a lot of that this year.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Exactly and this is sort of the time to figure that. Out,
- 49:24Speaker 4: yeah you know right, now like they're playing The rockies right.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Now i'll ADMIT i don't know how The a's are.
- 49:29Speaker 4: Doing that's who they play. After but they play The
- 49:31Speaker 4: a's next in a minor league fields the second time
- 49:33Speaker 4: this year they've played in a minor LEAGUE s, medium
- 49:37Speaker 4: and they did pretty well against The. Rays they're not
- 49:39Speaker 4: the same, team but like these, are this is the
- 49:42Speaker 4: time where it's gonna be okay For thompson to sort
- 49:45Speaker 4: of figure. Out all, right let's decide that this Is
- 49:47Speaker 4: Jordan romano, week and let's see how he performs at
- 49:51Speaker 4: the end of. Games, yes you know this is you
- 49:54Speaker 4: know we're gonna eventually they'll have to figure out something
- 49:57Speaker 4: to do With Taiwan, walker right, Right they'll have to
- 50:01Speaker 4: figure out what to do with, him SINCE i don't
- 50:03Speaker 4: THINK i mean if they include him in a. Trade
- 50:06Speaker 4: my guess is that if they trade for someone at
- 50:08Speaker 4: the deadline they'll include they'll Include Taiwan walker as a
- 50:12Speaker 4: salary jump and make that like a make that like
- 50:15Speaker 4: a condition of the. TRADE i, MEAN i wouldn't mind
- 50:17Speaker 4: that because he is sort of the odd man out,
- 50:20Speaker 4: sometimes So i've been impressed with how he's done for
- 50:23Speaker 4: the most.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Part, yeah AND i think, that you, know up until
- 50:27Speaker 1: the trade, deadline he could be that integral part of the.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Bullpen but it leads to that question, of you, know
- 50:34Speaker 1: what is the identity of this? Bullpen we just, said you,
- 50:38Speaker 1: know they're trying to just throw some stuff at the
- 50:41Speaker 1: wall in certain game situations and seeing what. STICKS i
- 50:46Speaker 1: don't necessarily think that's going to work for postseason. Success
- 50:49Speaker 1: so they're trying to figure it out right, now like you,
- 50:51Speaker 1: said but.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Really what is the identity of this?
- 50:55Speaker 1: Bullpen in your opinion, Here, liz what are your thoughts constant?
- 50:59Speaker 4: TERROR i would say. THAT i, mean right, now they
- 51:05Speaker 4: don't have their. Identity Is Jose alvarado got? Popped, yeah
- 51:09Speaker 4: and that's kind of their. Identity no one's thinking beyond
- 51:12Speaker 4: that if they're not A phillies. Fan, yes and SO
- 51:15Speaker 4: i think they are going to use the next couple
- 51:19Speaker 4: of weeks to figure that. Out they do have, to
- 51:21Speaker 4: they do have to figure something, out AND i Trust
- 51:24Speaker 4: Dave dombrowski to get it.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Done Dave DOMBROWSKI i think for the most, Part liz
- 51:30Speaker 1: has really done a good job in terms of baseball
- 51:35Speaker 1: valuation and whether it's the scouting team and, department but.
- 51:39Speaker 2: His overall decision.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Making, look there's NO, gm there's no player personnel person
- 51:45Speaker 1: In Major League baseball that's going to be one hundred
- 51:47Speaker 1: percent all the time and they're not going to hit
- 51:49Speaker 1: all the. Time But Dave, DOMBROWSKI i think in, general
- 51:52Speaker 1: over the years he has been here In philadelphia has
- 51:55Speaker 1: done a pretty damn good job making sure that the
- 51:57Speaker 1: acquisitions that are brought in are control cotributing to the
- 52:01Speaker 1: way they thought that they were possibly going to contribute
- 52:03Speaker 1: to the. Team of, course there have been a few
- 52:05Speaker 1: farts here and. There, okay there absolutely have, been but,
- 52:08Speaker 1: again nobody is. Perfect Dave DOMBROWSKI i think is a
- 52:11Speaker 1: pretty pretty good front office personnel for where this team
- 52:15Speaker 1: needs to go in the, direction in the direction he's
- 52:16Speaker 1: taken the.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Team absolutely if this team made, it like he had
- 52:22Speaker 5: a year of an evaluation year and he did a
- 52:24Speaker 5: couple of things, then but like pretty much right after
- 52:27Speaker 5: that he dove right, In, yeah and he made changes
- 52:30Speaker 5: that this team.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Needed he provided. Stability he made sure that you, know
- 52:35Speaker 4: the the guys on the field were talking to the
- 52:38Speaker 4: guys in front of the computers and they were talking
- 52:40Speaker 4: to you, know the gms and assistant gms and everyone's
- 52:45Speaker 4: communicating and make sure that everyone down in the miners
- 52:48Speaker 4: is on the same. Page like, that in and of
- 52:50Speaker 4: itself is such a huge, improvement AND i think you
- 52:53Speaker 4: can see it with The. Phillies haven't gotten some really,
- 52:57Speaker 4: positive some really positive contributions for minor league guys over
- 53:03Speaker 4: the past couple of. Years, ABSOLUTELY i mean we just
- 53:06Speaker 4: saw make able to have a great. Start Cody clemens
- 53:09Speaker 4: would come up every now and Then west And wilson
- 53:12Speaker 4: like there are more Guys i'm, forgetting but those are
- 53:14Speaker 4: the ones that jump to, mind that are that are
- 53:16Speaker 4: products of A i would say a good minor league,
- 53:19Speaker 4: system because even if not all of them Are phillies.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Prospects, right how About Bryson stott too coming up and
- 53:25Speaker 1: he was In TRIPLE. A i was watching him In
- 53:27Speaker 1: TRIPLE a for a.
- 53:28Speaker 2: While, yes that.
- 53:30Speaker 4: IS i mean him And Alec boum are also really big.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Wins AND i think the fact that they were able
- 53:36Speaker 4: to make it to where they were and then catch
- 53:39Speaker 4: on so easily to What dobrowski was having everybody. Do
- 53:44Speaker 4: it just shows how great their talent level is and
- 53:48Speaker 4: why they've both been able to stick in the. MAJORS
- 53:50Speaker 4: i will stand here and take, everyone's, uh take everyone's
- 53:55Speaker 4: praise for being absolutely right last year WHEN i constantly
- 53:58Speaker 4: said the steam like a one year thing For, stott
- 54:01Speaker 4: just give it some, time, Right and it's true he
- 54:04Speaker 4: was injured and now he's.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Back absolutely.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Absolutely, look we're gonna get into some of the, battings
- 54:09Speaker 1: some of the offense that we have seen from some
- 54:12Speaker 1: of these guys who are starting to become veterans on
- 54:15Speaker 1: this team, here who we deemed to be. Veterans BUT
- 54:18Speaker 1: i wanted to stick with the pitching here with, You,
- 54:20Speaker 1: liz because the starting pitching here has been, very very
- 54:25Speaker 1: interesting this twenty twenty five season in terms of who
- 54:29Speaker 1: is This phillies team and the theme that we're talking about.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Here we've seen some pieces of success when it comes
- 54:35Speaker 1: to certain. Pitchers you Mentioned Mick abel his call, up
- 54:38Speaker 1: and my, gosh what an amazing first Major league debut
- 54:42Speaker 1: for that Gentleman Tywan walker you mentioned. Before they both, performed,
- 54:46Speaker 1: well it's Got Zach, Wheeler Christopher, Sanchez Jezus lozardo having
- 54:51Speaker 1: really nice. Seasons but you, know when you look at
- 54:53Speaker 1: the pitching, overall which has done and fared very very,
- 54:57Speaker 1: Well i'm wondering your thoughts on the identity of this
- 55:00Speaker 1: starting pitching this season when we talk about you know that,
- 55:03Speaker 1: phrase you, know who are? They what are your thoughts, Here.
- 55:05Speaker 4: LIZ i think they're a pretty fearsome. Bunch, YEAH I
- 55:10Speaker 4: they're not a rotation that eighteen likes to see coming
- 55:14Speaker 4: because they've got right, now they've got like three guys
- 55:17Speaker 4: that are just absolutely mowing guys. Down two of, Them
- 55:21Speaker 4: Zach wheeler And Hayesu's lozardo are like on the leader
- 55:26Speaker 4: boards for all of. Baseball you go to The Baseball
- 55:28Speaker 4: reference leaderboards right, now and you could See wheeler's name
- 55:32Speaker 4: And luzardo's name on. THERE i, Mean luzarna actually IS
- 55:35Speaker 4: i think a, WELL i think it. DEPENDS i DON'T
- 55:37Speaker 4: i have a check since his last, start but last
- 55:39Speaker 4: TIME i Saw lozarder had like a slightly higher pitcher.
- 55:42Speaker 4: War he actually still. Does he is a higher pitcher
- 55:44Speaker 4: war Than Zach, wheeler which is.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Nuts that is, Crazy.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Like what every Season Dave debrowski has made one one
- 55:54Speaker 4: opposition one, trade one something that has really changed and
- 55:58Speaker 4: helped the team this. Year It's, lozardo which is just
- 56:01Speaker 4: a brilliant. MOVE i don't even remember who they gave
- 56:03Speaker 4: up For. LOZARDO i don't.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Care, YES i don't even remember. Either but, look, LOOK
- 56:07Speaker 1: i mean this isn't pitching. Either like we were talking
- 56:09Speaker 1: about With Dave, DOMBROWSKI i think he deserves a lot
- 56:11Speaker 1: more credit at times and what he. Gets but let's
- 56:15Speaker 1: look at all, right our good friend and, buddy mutual
- 56:17Speaker 1: Buddy John stallness and his takes On Max kepler before the.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Season and, Look Max kepler hasn't been the greatest baseball
- 56:24Speaker 1: player necessarily this, season but it's been a productive member
- 56:27Speaker 1: of this team so. FAR i didn't actually mind. IT
- 56:29Speaker 1: i don't mind what's going. On but like you, Said
- 56:31Speaker 1: Dave dombrowski doing a damn good job bringing these guys,
- 56:34Speaker 1: in and the fact that pitching was such the concentrated
- 56:38Speaker 1: effort during this, OFFSEASON i think we're seeing the fruits
- 56:41Speaker 1: of that really come into fruition.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Here, absolutely it's Been it's nice to know that there's
- 56:47Speaker 4: some kind of plan with. Everyone, Yes like everyone was
- 56:51Speaker 4: so frustrated When Andrew painter lost two, years but The
- 56:56Speaker 4: phillies didn't. Panic they, said, listen this kid has talent
- 56:59Speaker 4: and we know. It we've, helped we've developed. It so
- 57:02Speaker 4: he's going to get this done and he's going to
- 57:04Speaker 4: come back. Better it'll be, frustrating but this is our.
- 57:07Speaker 4: Plan like they actually willingly shared a plan or like
- 57:11Speaker 4: parts of a, plan which is not something that The
- 57:13Speaker 4: phillies have done in the, past, Right AND i think
- 57:15Speaker 4: it just shows how much they care, about you, know
- 57:19Speaker 4: him as a prospect and all the work that they've
- 57:22Speaker 4: put in and that they're not they're just they're never
- 57:25Speaker 4: getting ahead of. Themselves they've made the decisions that have
- 57:28Speaker 4: to be made and they're just going to stick with
- 57:30Speaker 4: it and. Go not that they're you, know calcified in their,
- 57:35Speaker 4: ways but they you, know they know a good plan
- 57:38Speaker 4: and they're just sticking to. It it's it's kind of
- 57:41Speaker 4: overwhelming to see our team apts so well.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Exactly make good decisions being, made people, producing you, know
- 57:49Speaker 1: As phillies fans throughout our entire.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Lives you, know this is a new thing over these
- 57:52Speaker 2: past few. Years for.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Sure again yeah, again, folks we're talking To Liz rocher
- 57:57Speaker 1: from the hitt And season podcast and does she is
- 58:00Speaker 1: over At saber as well doing some good good. Work
- 58:04Speaker 1: search her out On Blue Sky Liz. ROCHER i follow her,
- 58:07Speaker 1: there fantastic. FOLLOW i post the show over On twitter
- 58:12Speaker 1: slash x every now and. Then are you still over
- 58:13Speaker 1: there at all or?
- 58:14Speaker 4: NOT i keep my account, there, yeah BECAUSE i can't
- 58:18Speaker 4: get rid of. IT i, mean even though my husband's
- 58:20Speaker 4: account has been his original account has was. Suspended that's
- 58:23Speaker 4: where my husband AND i, met and so we met On,
- 58:26Speaker 4: twitter and so it JUST i can't get rid of my.
- 58:28Speaker 4: Account i'll never. Leave, yeah AS i, Said i'll never
- 58:32Speaker 4: leave this, place, yep as horrible as it, is BUT
- 58:34Speaker 4: i do not go there. Routinely LIKE i went there
- 58:37Speaker 4: to post my recent job news and like it was
- 58:39Speaker 4: incredible the change in.
- 58:42Speaker 2: Reach absolutely absolutely we.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Could we could do a whole show on. That but
- 58:47Speaker 1: we're talking about The, Phillies, yes yes we. Are we're
- 58:49Speaker 1: talking about The phillies, Here so moving along with the,
- 58:52Speaker 1: CONVERSATION i want to talk about the bats, now moving
- 58:55Speaker 1: over to, them AND i want to kind of divvy
- 58:57Speaker 1: these guys up here in terms of of who is
- 59:00Speaker 1: This phillies team and what the identity. Is AND i
- 59:03Speaker 1: want to really dissect the players WHO i think we
- 59:06Speaker 1: could describe as the true star veterans on this. Team
- 59:10Speaker 1: i'm talking About Bryce, Harper Trey, TURNER j T Real.
- 59:13Speaker 1: MUTO i even you, know hesitate to Put Nick cassianos
- 59:17Speaker 1: in this. Group so when you look at this group
- 59:20Speaker 1: of gentlemen in terms of their offensive, productivity here these
- 59:24Speaker 1: star veteran players as a, Whole, liz who are they
- 59:29Speaker 1: when it comes to this offense and this.
- 59:31Speaker 4: Batting they are becoming more, Consistent they're becoming more. CONSISTENT
- 59:40Speaker 4: i don't think As Kyle schwarber was in that, group
- 59:43Speaker 4: But i'd put him in there for.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Sure. Yeah. Absolutely and he you.
- 59:47Speaker 4: Know he's he's been the he's been sort of the
- 59:50Speaker 4: canary and the coal mine for the the veterans on the.
- 59:53Speaker 4: Whole Bryce harper's been HAVING i, mean HE'S i didn't
- 59:55Speaker 4: realize he's hitting two seventy. TWO i still remember when
- 59:58Speaker 4: he was hitting much less than, that and it just
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: sort of picked up an, instant which is what he
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: does and who he. Is his power still isn't, great
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: AND i still think that is a result of his
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: surgery is emo searchery from a few years, ago and
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: almost certainly his desire to get back as suit as humidly. Positible,
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: yes it's a decision that was, made AND i you,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: know whether or NOT i agree with, it it's immateial.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Now But i'm glad to see him doing. Better AND
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: i think it's probably time for, me at least everyone
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: else can do what they want for me at least
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: to kind of stop expecting the power to come back
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: and just sort of enjoy what he is because he's great,
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Still he's still an incredible, Player like he's been able
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: to pull his batting average up without a whole ton
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: of like, power, Right AND i think that's. Great what about.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: The almost WHAT i like to call the almost stars
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: on this, team you, know on the flip side of,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: things you, know we want to look at the offense
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: from the on this. Team, again they're not veteran, stars
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: but they're important to the team's. Success players Like Bryson,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Stott Alec, Bohm brandon marsh, even LIKE i mentioned, Earlier
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Max kepler as. Well when you when we start asking
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: that question of like who are, they how would you
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: describe this crop of guys and the talent that they
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: have brought to the team this, YEAR.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: I think it's. OUTSTANDING i, mean Both stott And Alec
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: bohm are keeping their averages looking pretty. Good Bryson stott's
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: on base percentage is. Climbing you, know neither of them are,
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: powerhouses but they've you, know they've been able to knock
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: onon or two at really opportune. Times, yeah as for the,
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: REST i don't know if i'd put them in the
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: same group As Alc baum And Bryson. Stott, Right Max
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: kepler hasn't been a massive, disappointment and that he's hitting
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: above The mendoza line and have five home, runs, YEP
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: i would, SAY i, MEAN i wouldn't call it a,
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: win but i'd call. It calling it neutral seems a
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: little too, petty pleasant perhaps least surprised there's still room
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: for him to do. Better he's hitting two nine with
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: a three twelve on base which is not, great not
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: good at, All but like they've been able to contribute
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: important things at important, times AND i think that's what
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: this team is sort of getting that like the eight team,
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: had you, know those teams in that. Era it's that
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: not everyone's gonna be able to get it done every, night,
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: right but we need to make, sure you, know there's
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: going to be someone every night who's gonna be able
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: to try hard or to pull us over the. Line you.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Know sometimes It's shmarber hitting two home, runs you, know
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: and putting the team on his. Back sometimes It's harper
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: hitting a bunch of. Doubles sometimes It's bryce And, stott you,
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: know going three for five with you, know a triple
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: and a home. Run, yep you, know it's. All everyone
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: has a part to, play and everyone knows that they
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: can contribute any time it. Point and that's that's what
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: those teams. Had you knew that someone was always going
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: to step up or at least try to step up
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: and make the difference so they can win the. Game
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: AND i think we've seen that a lot over the
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: past few.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Weeks, yeah, absolutely absolutely, Correct.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Liz BEFORE i let you, go my, FRIEND i want
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: to talk about one particular individual and He, no he
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: doesn't get into the batter's, box doesn't run around the,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: bases doesn't play defense at, all but he's an important
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: component of who This phillies team. Is when we're talking
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: about who are The phillies want to get into the
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Manager Rob. Thompson and with that theme we've been discussing,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: here who are The. Phillies how Does Rob thompson as
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: the manager of this team really fit into the equation?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Here in your, opinion.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: He's definitely more background even than he was last. Year,
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: yeah AND i THINK i don't think that's a bad.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Thing if the teams seemed like they were floundering without
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: leaders ship or whatever it, is, LIKE i don't know
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: if there's like a clubhouse leader. LEADER i Know schwarber
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: sort of takes a role In castianos, occasionally but it
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: feels sort of like this, Year thompson is, like everybody
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: knows what their job. Is, YEAH i don't have to
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: tell anybody what they're supposed to do because everybody already.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: Knows everyone's you, know coming to, work going to their,
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: lockers doing all of their, exercises doing everything they should
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: and coming. Back you, know my job is to put,
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: stuff you, know put guys in the game and take them.
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: Out and there have been times he's made some puzzling,
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: decisions but by and Large i've been. Happy by, Large
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: i've been really happy with how he's done this. YEAR
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: i was looking again on Their Baseball reference. Page you,
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: know they've had fifteen players play positions this, year And
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: i'm just used to this list being so much. Longer,
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: yes and by the end of the, season it'll definitely be.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Longer but he's had he's been able to take advantage
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: of the stability and move guys, around which in the
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: past he was not he did not like. Doing, yeah
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: we would see the same the same, lineup AND i
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: know that even The, phillies Even thompson who's been switching,
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: lineups The phillies still HAVE i think used the least
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: amount of different. Lineups BUT i think that's because he's
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: comfortable with where guys. Are he knows that the guys
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: are comfortable with where they, are and unless they are
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: going to be, major you, know major issues with how they're,
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: hitting THEN i don't there's no reason to change them
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: except for you, know this reason or that. Reason, Yeah
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: SO i think it's a. Positive think it has been.
