- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo, I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. We've got a great little topic today - asking for help with directions. Lucas: We've covered some direction words before, like links and rechts, but today we're going one step further. Luna: So if I'm lost in a Dutch town, I need to actually ask someone for help, right? Lucas: Exactly. And the first phrase you need is: Waar is het station? Luna: Waar is het station? That means 'Where is the station?' Lucas: Good. Let's break it down. Waar means where, is is is, het station is the station. Slow: Waar is het station?. Luna: Waar is het station? Lucas: Perfect. Now, the answer might be: Het is rechtdoor. Luna: Het is rechtdoor. So 'It is straight ahead.' Lucas: Right. But before we get too far, let me mention something about Fexingo. If you're finding these episodes helpful and want to keep them ad-free, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps us keep making these little lessons for you. Luna: Yeah, we really appreciate it. Now, where were we? Oh, rechtdoor. Let's try that again. Het is rechtdoor. Lucas: Good. Now, what if you're looking for something else, like a pharmacy? You can ask: Waar is de apotheek? Luna: Waar is de apotheek? So that's 'Where is the pharmacy?' I can see the pattern - Waar is de... and then the place. Lucas: You got it. And a possible answer: Het is naast het park. Luna: Het is naast het park. It's next to the park. Naast sounds like 'next to' which we learned before. Lucas: Yes, from episode 182. Good memory. So let's put it all together. Imagine you ask: Waar is de apotheek? And the person says: Het is naast het park. Luna: Okay, so I'd say: Waar is de apotheek? And they'd say: Het is naast het park. But what if I don't understand? How do I ask for help? Lucas: Great question. You can say: Kunt u mij helpen? That means 'Can you help me?' Luna: Kunt u mij helpen? Let me try: Kunt u mij helpen? Lucas: Perfect. Now let's practice a tiny scene. You're on the street, and you ask a stranger: Waar is het station? Luna: Waar is het station? Lucas: And the stranger says: Het is rechtdoor. Luna: Het is rechtdoor. Great. So I just go straight. Lucas: Exactly. Now, what if you need the pharmacy? Ask me. Luna: Waar is de apotheek? Lucas: Het is naast het park. Luna: Het is naast het park. So I should look for the park, and the pharmacy is next to it. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's add a little twist. What if you're not sure you heard it right? You can say: Kunt u mij helpen? and then ask again. Luna: So I'd say: Kunt u mij helpen? and then maybe repeat my question? Lucas: Yes, exactly. Let's hear you say all five phrases one more time. First: Waar is het station? Luna: Waar is het station? Lucas: Het is rechtdoor. Luna: Het is rechtdoor. Lucas: Waar is de apotheek? Luna: Waar is de apotheek? Lucas: Het is naast het park. Luna: Het is naast het park. Lucas: And finally: Kunt u mij helpen? Luna: Kunt u mij helpen? Lucas: Wow, you've got them all. You'll be navigating like a local in no time. Luna: I hope so. Thanks for making this so easy, Lucas. And thanks to everyone listening - keep practicing these phrases until next time. Lucas: See you all next episode. Tot ziens!
