- 0:15We just started. My name is Salvador and what I am going to
- 0:22tell you next is an experience that even today causes me nightmares and many times
- 0:27I wish I could forget it since I have used reason. My life was
- 0:33always nomad. My father was military and because of his work, we used
- 0:38to move very constantly. Unfortunately, my mother had died in giving me life
- 0:43and as my father worked much of the day, I used to be most
- 0:47of the time, being cared for by babysitters, who mostly cared little about
- 0:53how I was or what I did. As long as I didn' t
- 0:58bother them. Because of my busy life, it was very difficult for me
- 1:02to make friends, so for my eleven years I had practically given up any
- 1:07idea of relating to boys my age, as I knew that those friendships would
- 1:12only last until the next move. I remember that move as if it had
- 1:18been yesterday, and this is because we never used to stay in such big
- 1:22places. They were always small apartments or just a room, but that time
- 1:26it was a huge house, which looked old and, if I' m
- 1:30honest, something scary. Apparently. That house was loaned to my father by
- 1:36superiors so he wouldn' t have to worry about where to live during his
- 1:41stay. In that place, my father and I went into that house together.
- 1:46I remember that, even though it seemed to have been cleaned up before
- 1:49our arrival, it still kept an aroma of running, which my father assured
- 1:55me would disappear in a few days. As always, my father was with
- 1:59him most of the first day. However, the next day, even before
- 2:05I woke up, he had already left, leaving a note telling me that
- 2:08he would soon reach a nanny. While I was waiting, I decided to
- 2:15tour and explore the rooms of that huge house. It was my first time
- 2:20in such a big house, so I didn' t resist and started running
- 2:23down the halls, opening doors to see what was behind it. If I
- 2:28' m honest, there was nothing but old furniture covered with sheets, dust
- 2:32bugs and I even found a dead rat. I got to almost one of
- 2:38the last rooms in the house, but when I tried to open the door,
- 2:43I realized it was locked. Although I was intrigued to know what was
- 2:46on the other side, I quickly forgot when the babysitter arrived. This was,
- 2:52like the others, he made sure he had eaten. Before you start
- 2:55reading your magazines. I spent the rest of the afternoon playing and putting together
- 3:00puzzles. I wanted to go out into the garden, but there was a
- 3:06slight breeze and the nanny had forbidden me to do it, so, at
- 3:09a time of total boredom, I set out to look for something to do.
- 3:12As I walked through one of the hallways of the house, I saw
- 3:15how on one of the shelves at the top was a set of old keys.
- 3:22That caught my attention right away, as I thought one of those keys
- 3:25would open the door I was missing. In addition, you could also open
- 3:30some cabinets that were also closed. Without hesitation, I took the keys and
- 3:36ran straight to the missing door. It took me three attempts to get the
- 3:39right key, but finally the door opened. That room was not so different
- 3:46from the others, except because it seemed to have been a child' s
- 3:50room. I had some wooden toys, including a riding horse, which I
- 3:54found quite adorable. I explored that room by looking at the pitchers and I
- 4:00saw wood, which had accumulated a lot of dust. It could be seen
- 4:04that no one had played with them in years. As I watched the toys,
- 4:10one of them caught my attention to a small box that seemed to have
- 4:15a handmade painting. It was very similar to a circus tent. I even
- 4:18had a couple of clowns. Tossing a ball seemed very pretty, so I
- 4:24took it off the floor and noticed that it had a small lever, like
- 4:28musical boxes, so I started to move it with the intention of seeing a
- 4:32childish tonada pass began to ring almost instantly. I had the idea that a
- 4:38clown with a spring body would come out and that was it. However,
- 4:43not only did it take a long time for something to happen, but as
- 4:46soon as it opened, no clown with a spring body came out. Rather,
- 4:50the box opened showing a mirror which only reflected me. I looked more
- 4:56inside, but there was nothing else inside and I assumed that maybe it was
- 5:00broken. After that I decided to leave that room, but without knowing why
- 5:05something in me wanted to take that box, I assumed it was okay.
- 5:11After all, it looked like it was nobody' s anymore, so I
- 5:14took her to my room and after that I didn' t think of that
- 5:17box. For the rest of the day, that night, while I was
- 5:24trying to sleep, my thoughts returned over and over to that little box,
- 5:28so I got up and in the dark I remembered where I had left it.
- 5:31I took it and started to wind it one more time. If I
- 5:35' m honest, I didn' t know what I expected. After all,
- 5:39I had already seen what he was doing. Soon what had to happen
- 5:44happened. The box opened by letting the mirror see, but this time I
- 5:47could not only see my reflection, but behind me seemed to be a child
- 5:53only that something blurred, because I could not see it well. I immediately
- 5:58turned around, but there was nothing. From there I turned back into the
- 6:01mirror, but this one no longer reflected anything. I got a little scared.
- 6:05However, despite my eleven years, I was no believer in the paranormal
- 6:10subject or anything like that. I tried to check if there was a spot
- 6:15in the mirror. Then I thought maybe I was just tired, so I
- 6:19closed the box and got ready to sleep. The next day, as soon
- 6:24as I opened my eyes, I realized that the sun had risen. I
- 6:28was very excited about that, as the nanny would have no excuse not to
- 6:32let me go to the garden. So, after breakfast I went out the
- 6:36garden was huge, but what I was most interested in seeing was a huge
- 6:42tree, which you could see from the window that was my room. It
- 6:46seemed dry all the time, for even though the rest of the trees around
- 6:49it had leaves and even some of them flowers and fruits, it only had
- 6:55dried branches. I remember asking my father, who told me the tree was
- 7:00probably dead. I was wondering why. If he was dead. They hadn
- 7:06' t cut him down, but it' s not like he thought much
- 7:10of him either. All that day I spent playing and digging in the ground
- 7:13and as I walked through the extensive garden, I came across what seemed to
- 7:17make a tomb or that I believed in the beginning, because when I saw
- 7:23it I realized that on a rock of the ground there was a small plaque
- 7:27that looked old, which had the name Sebastian Herrera engraved. There was also
- 7:30a date that told me that I hadn' t lived long. That plaque
- 7:36was my first encounter with death and it goes without saying that it disturbed me
- 7:41enough. I tried to stay as far away from that area as possible.
- 7:46After all, it felt like disrespect being playing around there. In the afternoon
- 7:53I found myself in the bathroom. It was my first time taking a bath
- 7:57in a tub, so it seemed like a fun experience to me, and
- 8:01when I found myself closing my eyes to soap my hair, I could feel
- 8:05how the temperature of the bath began to drop so drastically that even my teeth
- 8:11began to brown. That made no sense to me. The water was perfect.
- 8:16Just a few minutes ago, however, I couldn' t stand the
- 8:22cold and set out to get out of Latin. But while I was doing
- 8:26it, I slipped hitting my head. A little before I lost consciousness,
- 8:28I could hear a slight mocking and childish laughter and at the bathroom door I
- 8:35could see back that blurry child from which the laughter seemed to come. I
- 8:41woke up almost an hour later in my bed, with the babysitter on the
- 8:43verge of collapse. As soon as I woke up, his eyes lit up
- 8:48and he started asking me questions that at that moment seemed silly, like what
- 8:54was my name or what year we were in now that I am big I
- 8:58understand, but at that moment I think I think I was a fool.
- 9:03I remember questioning her if she had a son, who she had brought home,
- 9:07because, since I had seen him, she seemed to be very surprised
- 9:11by that question, but in the end she didn' t care, believing
- 9:16that the blow to my head had made me hallucinate things. I remember,
- 9:18after the initial crash, the nanny tried to persuade me to do that between
- 9:24us. If I' m honest, I didn' t really care.
- 9:28I assumed it was like falling into the yard. They were things that happened
- 9:33that night. While I was sleeping, I had a rather strange dream.
- 9:37I woke up in my bed and when I saw through the window that tree
- 9:43that was supposedly dead, it was full of green leaves and it seemed very
- 9:46leafy. Under that tree was a little boy who seemed to be playing with
- 9:52fireworks. I left home to get closer to him, but despite getting too
- 9:58close, it was s or s p or seemed completely ignored. My presence
- 10:01was as if we were not in the same reality. I could see how
- 10:05the boy' s fireworks ran out, so he started running towards a shed,
- 10:11which I had never seen before. I followed him. When the boy
- 10:16opened the door, I noticed that the place was full of fireworks of any
- 10:20kind. Like Polvora, it seemed that this was a place where those artifacts
- 10:26were made. The boy took one of the fireworks on the table and with
- 10:33the other hand brought a match to light it. I may have only been
- 10:39eleven at the time, but even I knew that you shouldn' t do
- 10:43that. Every fiber of my being wanted to warn you. However, before
- 10:46I could do so, my dream ended abruptly with a rather peculiar sound like
- 10:52an explosion. My awakening was so chaotic. I was sweating and my heart
- 10:58was going to r thousand an hour and I didn' t understand why.
- 11:01While I was catching my breath, I saw that little box by my side
- 11:07and threw it off the other side of the room. When he touched the
- 11:09wall of it, he opened and let that tone ring. I knew it
- 11:13wouldn' t stop unless I closed it, so I got out of bed
- 11:18to pick it up, but when I did and I saw the reflection in
- 11:22the mirror, there was that child again who back in the dark looked blurry.
- 11:28I couldn' t see it clearly no matter how hard I tried.
- 11:31Then I closed the box and got into bed, wishing everything was more than
- 11:35another nightmare. I took a while, but I finally fell asleep. I
- 11:43don' t remember dreaming anything, especially in this second dream, only that
- 11:48I was awakened by laughter, childish laughter, which seemed to be very close
- 11:52to me, although I couldn' t see anyone. I remember covering my
- 11:56ears trying not to listen, but that doesn' t work. It was
- 12:01then that I realized that the laughter came from that box, and that was
- 12:05the last thing I got up, took the box and threw it into the
- 12:09street, thinking that in this way I would finally get rid of all the
- 12:15weird events I had been experiencing since I had found it. I couldn'
- 12:20t sleep for the rest of the night. I could only think of that
- 12:24strange boy and that box and wonder if I was going crazy. After all,
- 12:30those experiences bordered on madness. The next day, my father came back
- 12:37to give me the news that we would be leaving in three days. I
- 12:39was very happy about that, as there was nothing else on earth that moved
- 12:43me more than to get away from that house to never come back again,
- 12:50even though I had no idea what was waiting for me. The days have
- 12:52passed. After all, that had already prepared all my things to leave very
- 12:58early. That day I was completely excited. This was the first time that
- 13:03a move was so exciting to me, but I wanted to leave with all
- 13:07my strength, even though in those last two days I had experienced nothing out
- 13:13of the ordinary. Around eleven o' clock at night, the nanny was
- 13:18already asleep. I, for one, couldn' t sleep. I didn
- 13:22' t know if it was insomnia because of how excited I was to leave,
- 13:28or else I could make that I had eaten too many sweets that day.
- 13:30Whatever the reason was, I was very thirsty so I went to the
- 13:33kitchen for a glass of water. While I was drinking something, it made
- 13:39my blood freeze. Suddenly I heard that same tune from the music box.
- 13:45That made no sense, for he had thrown her into the street and the
- 13:48next day she was no longer there. So I figured maybe another kid saw
- 13:52her and had taken her or someone had kicked her too far. I looked
- 13:56for her with my eyes, or there was no doubt that she was the
- 14:01same tune. I had to be close, but no matter how much I
- 14:05looked for her, I couldn' t find her anywhere. The sound seemed
- 14:09to become louder and louder to such an extent that I was surprised that the
- 14:15babysitter did not wake up. I wanted to wake her up myself, but
- 14:18I didn' t want her to think that I was a scared child and
- 14:22even worse that I told my father, so after thinking about it a little
- 14:26bit, I decided to go back to my room. As I walked back,
- 14:31I heard a few steps on the top floor of the nanny' s
- 14:35room. She was there, so I assumed she was the one who had
- 14:39woken up listening to all the fuss and going down to see what was going
- 14:43on I walked up to the ladder. But very soon I realized it wasn
- 14:48' t about the nanny. The first thing he saw was a little barefoot
- 14:52feet, which seemed mistreated, full of blisters and scrapes, every po part
- 14:58of me. When I saw them, he shouted at me to run,
- 15:03but my feet seemed to be nailed to the ground, not obeying the instructions
- 15:09my brain was shouting at them. The figure began to reveal itself more and
- 15:13more, showing that the rest of his body was no better than his feet.
- 15:16The torso was burned and the clothes were torn. The darkness did not
- 15:22allow me to see it at all well, but with the little I saw
- 15:26it was enough to generate a deep fear. The last part was the worst,
- 15:31because as he went down the stairs a little bit further, he showed
- 15:35that that little figure had a terrifying face, his eyes totally white and lifeless,
- 15:39his skin pale, full of blisters and with a diabolical smile. I
- 15:45felt that my own soul was leaving my body from fear. My legs finally
- 15:50answered and I ran straight to my room, where I locked myself. I
- 15:54was sitting in my bed praying whatever I remembered at that time, which was
- 16:00not too much, since my father was not a believer and therefore neither,
- 16:03through the door crevice, could I see how someone stopped on the other side
- 16:07and started to knock I continued to pray, while the knocks on my door
- 16:14became stronger and stronger. There were times when I felt that they were even
- 16:21going to throw the door away and at a given moment this stopped. However,
- 16:25even under the door it was seen that the child was still there.
- 16:30I was completely terrified, without even being able to move. Then with horror
- 16:36I observed how the door knob began to move very quickly, until finally the
- 16:41door was opened completely, leaving before me that hideous figure, which this time
- 16:45did not look so blurry, for the light of the corridor illuminated it perfectly
- 16:51well the whole body. It was filled with blisters and burns. The awful
- 16:57thing was that this time on his shoulders he couldn' t find his head.
- 17:03The body of that child walked straight toward me and, lifting one of
- 17:07his hands, pointed to the tree outside my window. I didn' t
- 17:12want to look, but it seemed like he wouldn' t leave me alone
- 17:17or leave me alone until he did, so I turned my head and looked
- 17:21at the tree, which just then was lit by lightning. It was then
- 17:26that I saw one of the most appalling scenes, which even today I close
- 17:30my eyes and I can see perfectly in one of the branches was the head
- 17:34of the child, which, at the time I looked at her, opened
- 17:38her eyes and smiled at me in the scariest way I had ever seen.
- 17:45I shouted with all my might waking up to the nanny, who immediately went
- 17:49to see what was happening to me. But by the time she arrived,
- 17:52the boy had vanished and what he had seen in that tree was not found
- 17:56either. There I could not even speak to explain the horror I had experienced.
- 18:03The nanny stayed with me the rest of the night, but I couldn
- 18:07' t sleep. In fact, it took me too long to sleep.
- 18:11After that, as scheduled, we moved in the next day. Just my
- 18:18dad was making the car. I went up my stuff and I didn'
- 18:22t want to get out of there. When it was finally time to leave
- 18:26I turned to take a last look at the house and through one of the
- 18:29windows, exactly through the window of what had been my room, I could
- 18:33see the blurred silhouette of the child. I never went back to that house
- 18:40or experienced anything similar in any other. To tell you the truth, I
- 18:44appreciate it. I have no idea it was all I experienced. All I
- 18:48know is that I' m glad all that' s left in the past,
- 18:52and I hope I' ll never experience anything similar again. A story
