- 1:23Inside baseball. Now let's go deep, deep inside.
- 1:27What I am excited this. Is inside baseball.
- 1:31Oh. This is going to be fun.
- 1:33Oh, and we got the 2. Baseballs, guys, We got a bunch
- 1:37of baseball stories, a lot of baseball stories to talk about
- 1:41in the news recently. Some of them positive, some of
- 1:44them not so positive. This reminds me this track.
- 1:48This track reminds me of Cleveland baseball.
- 1:50Just so you know, I just had to. Say it should Major League
- 1:54soundtrack right from the first movie.
- 1:57So let's talk. About, by the way, the
- 1:59magnificent Mesorowski man, if you haven't watched this guy
- 2:04pitch, it is something to behold.
- 2:06And he went up against Paul Skeens, who is the best young
- 2:10pitcher in baseball, and out dueled him for five innings.
- 2:13They don't let him pitch deeper than that right now.
- 2:15But Mesorowski is throwing harder than anybody in baseball
- 2:19consistently well over 100 every pitch it seems like.
- 2:24I think he had something like 19 pitches that were over a one O 1
- 2:28in the game. And Skeens had one and the 20
- 2:32pitches over one O 1 was the most ever and it was almost all
- 2:36him. Take a look at this pitch right
- 2:39here. This is a 96 mile an hour
- 2:41slider. Julie Castro goes down.
- 2:44Yeah, it's nasty. That's as filthy as a slider
- 2:47gets, and they showed afterwards that right before the break it
- 2:51looks almost exactly like the fastball going on the inside.
- 2:55Oh, that's. The same same like arm slot.
- 2:57I don't know, it reminds me of when Strider first came.
- 2:59I hope you can stay healthy. But that's the that's where we
- 3:02start is with that duel between these two guys.
- 3:05So, Errol, I know you're a big fan of Skeins.
- 3:09Skins might not be the best pitcher in baseball.
- 3:13This young pitcher in baseball. This kid, I don't know anything
- 3:15about him. I've heard a little bit about
- 3:17how hard he throws. He reminds me of a young Noah
- 3:20Syndergaard. Froze very, very hard.
- 3:22Noah Syndergaard, when he came to the league with the Mets,
- 3:24this guy was unstoppable. They gave him the nickname for.
- 3:27He threw 92 mile per hour change UPS, 93 mile per hour change up.
- 3:32His slider was like 94 mph. He was throwing 199.
- 3:37A hundred now, obviously these sleep baseball is different.
- 3:39The technically these guys are going to throw harder because of
- 3:42all the opportunities they have with all the the different, you
- 3:45know, scientific things that you see guys, you know, come up
- 3:48with. But I think I still think Paul
- 3:51Skeens is a better pitcher and this guy might throw his arm out
- 3:54the way he's talking the ball. He's great, he's sensational.
- 3:58The teams will obviously eventually time him right and
- 4:01figure him out. I, I just, I, I stop.
- 4:04I know a lot of people want to put, put him over Paul Skeens.
- 4:07Paul Skeens has done it over a year and a half in the big
- 4:10leagues. Let's see what this guy does in
- 4:12a full season. Then we could try to compare and
- 4:14contrast, that's all. I'm going to say about that.
- 4:17Mesorowski's different. He does, he does.
- 4:20He's 100 to 102. His curveball's 90 miles an
- 4:22hour, sliders 96, change UPS 92. But what makes him super special
- 4:27is he's in the 100 percentile and extension.
- 4:29So they have a stack called perceived velocity.
- 4:32So the fastball might come in at about 100, but the hitters are
- 4:35seeing it at like 102. But you know, over time the ball
- 4:40will slow down. But actually it looks like his
- 4:43is taking off because he's reaching out and putting the
- 4:46ball in the like in the glove. His extension, he's shortening
- 4:49the 60 feet, 6 inches will say his stride length is 7 feet, you
- 4:52know, whatever. And it's it's getting up and
- 4:55just quicker, which is why it's ridiculous.
- 4:57So I think he's better than Paul skeins.
- 5:00No, I don't I don't. I I have to see him over the
- 5:04course of a year, like you said, see if he see if he can, you
- 5:07know, handle it. Once the team, once the league
- 5:10starts making adjustments to him, then we'll really see what
- 5:12he's made of going back to their matchup.
- 5:16Paul just he just had one rough inning.
- 5:18The guys got to him a little bit and then he settled in and the
- 5:21next, the next two innings or whatever, we're fine.
- 5:23I mean, he struck out the the guys, but he did throw a lot of
- 5:26pitches and I'm sure that's why they took him out.
- 5:28But I was impressed. I was impressed with the miss.
- 5:31The miss did have some nice shit.
- 5:32I won't lie. His stuff was nice for sure and
- 5:35didn't look like a fun at bat. But give him some time.
- 5:38The league still has to make an adjustment.
- 5:40I think that was like his, what, his fourth or fifth outing?
- 5:44I didn't think it was that much. I think it was his third start.
- 5:46Yeah, I think it was third. And I think he's only given up
- 5:48three hits and three starts. He has more weight than hits
- 5:51given up. Yeah, it's just ridiculous how
- 5:55good he is right now. But again, you know, it's very
- 5:57early with that guy. It's just so exciting to watch.
- 6:00That well, it's exciting to watch.
- 6:01It's something exciting for the Brewers.
- 6:03I mean, they're they're pitching factory over there.
- 6:05They constantly are putting out pitchers.
- 6:07So, you know, now they just need to get their offense booming,
- 6:12match their staff, and then you know, they're going to be fine.
- 6:15But yeah, it's a name and it was it they MLB hyped that, hyped
- 6:20that match up up quite a bit. So it was fun to watch.
- 6:23For sure. How do you think?
- 6:24What do you think is the MLB.TV Free Game of the day?
- 6:28Yeah, Oh. Yeah, for that reason, it's and
- 6:30it's it's great and it's it's great for baseball because the
- 6:34younger generation and you're seeing guys like Chase Burns
- 6:36come up, you know, in a year and set set a record.
- 6:40Nobody's ever. Struck.
- 6:41We'll talk about Chase. We'll talk about Chase in a
- 6:43little bit. And so I'm just talking about as
- 6:45as young kids, like with what they're doing, it's they're
- 6:49trying like they're trying to get the old ads out.
- 6:52Obviously we've seen what Clayton has done since his first
- 6:55start. His last seven have been
- 6:56unbelievable. And they're going to continue to
- 6:59grind and do all that. They know how to do it.
- 7:01He's 3 away from 3000, which will be awesome to see.
- 7:03He deserves it. But yeah, I think that's two
- 7:08you're going to be 1 to watch for a long time, hopefully and
- 7:10hopefully they can stay healthy. And with, with the way things
- 7:14are going now, you, you just never know.
- 7:16But it was fun to watch stuff wise like it, like you said,
- 7:19skins had that one bad inning, but stuff wise, just watching
- 7:22both of them work it. I mean, it's just, if you're not
- 7:24a baseball fan, you know, some people want to see all these
- 7:27runs and I want to I, I, I like a one nothing game, but that
- 7:32that does something for me. It's just the the chess match of
- 7:34back and forth. And it'll be interesting to see,
- 7:37you know, they're young, how far they're willing to go.
- 7:40Like, obviously you're trying to save them.
- 7:43But yeah, you tried to save me and I blew out anyway.
- 7:45So for me personally, you let him go.
- 7:49Look what Kay did in the World Series, win 130 pitches.
- 7:52Let him go. If he's going to blow, he's
- 7:53going to blow. Yeah, same with Strasburg.
- 7:58Speedy I, we, we have a lot of these advanced statistics to
- 8:03tell you how good it is and good mentioned one with an extension
- 8:06though, but extension now they have this site.
- 8:08I use it very exclusively for my fantasy baseball stuff.
- 8:12It's called baseball savant and baseball savant is like kind of
- 8:15idiot proof because if it's red, it's good.
- 8:18He's 100% all the way to the red Mesirowski on like literally
- 8:23everything. And I, I didn't understand.
- 8:28I thought it was like more not not so much like hiding the
- 8:31ball, but like just like like you're saying like how how like
- 8:36hard it is for you to pick it up out of his hands because like
- 8:39it's getting to you faster. As opposed to like a guy that
- 8:42throws 95 with no extension. A guy with like 93 with like
- 8:47good extension would probably be harder to hit is I think what
- 8:50they're saying. But Speedy, do you have any of
- 8:52these ideas on like how the how to use this actionably?
- 8:56Yeah, I haven't seen it with with Mesirowski with his with
- 8:58his numbers quite yet. But yeah, if they're all that
- 9:01high, it generally means that they're not being seen to the
- 9:04same level of it's not even like a drastic change of speed
- 9:07either. From what you were describing,
- 9:08Goody, it seems like he's keeping them all the same
- 9:10velocity, but they're similar enough where it's still enough
- 9:13distinctly that's thrown off these hitters.
- 9:15Now, granted, this game was the Pirates offense, so I don't know
- 9:18how much you're going to take that into account.
- 9:19But nevertheless, he's faced some other good teams.
- 9:22Like you were showing the highlight against the Twins who
- 9:23have a decent offense. And I forget who his first start
- 9:26was against, but they were a pretty good team as well.
- 9:27I think it might have been the Cubs and they he still had the
- 9:31like you're showing in this charts here.
- 9:33You're you see enough of it where these locations are also
- 9:36very strong too, scattered enough to keep him guessing.
- 9:40And the combination of that with the velocity is going to be key.
- 9:43But like Errol was mentioning too, the usage will be a big
- 9:46key. That was the biggest problem
- 9:47that hurt Noah Syndergaard. He had five pitches and only
- 9:50decided to throw two of them later in his Met's career.
- 9:52And it really hurt him both injury wise and just stuff wise.
- 9:56And since his stuff falling off, he has not recovered.
- 9:58So you hope that doesn't happen with Mizuroski.
- 10:00But like you were saying, goody, I think the Brewers have become
- 10:03enough of a young pitching factory where that kind of thing
- 10:05doesn't happen. We were talking about the kid
- 10:06Henderson guy that got demoted. Surprisingly, Kid Patrick's done
- 10:10very well too. Chad Patrick, and like you said,
- 10:13Peralta rebirthing him as a veteran when he was dealing with
- 10:15all those Tommy John surgeries. That takes something.
- 10:19All right, let's let's move on on that one.
- 10:21That was the the fun baseball story of the show.
- 10:25But everything else is decidedly not as fun because there's some
- 10:29horrible stories in the baseball world.
- 10:32And we have to start with Wander Franco.
- 10:34Wander Franco was found guilty today and he only gets a
- 10:38suspended 2 year sentence for sexual abuse of a minor.
- 10:43He does not go to jail unless he violates the the conditions,
- 10:47which means being around more minors.
- 10:51Baseball will likely suspend him indefinitely for this.
- 10:55I don't know when if they'll let him back, but the fact that he's
- 11:00not going to jail and the mother of the daughter of, of the of
- 11:04the woman is going to jail for 10 years raises more than one
- 11:09eyebrow for me. It raises quite a few across the
- 11:11industry. I want to hear you guys take on
- 11:13it, Errol, starting with you, man.
- 11:15First of all, Wanda Franco is a piece of garbage.
- 11:18He doesn't belong in the league. He shouldn't step one time 1
- 11:21foot ever on a baseball field again.
- 11:25That's my fact. If you're, if you're watching a
- 11:28pitcher, and I'm not going to mention the name because I know
- 11:30Jabba don't like him. He he's never even been fully
- 11:34proven to do any of those things that these girls have told or
- 11:38said that he has done or in a in a state in in a court in a
- 11:42court. And this guy has been proven and
- 11:45only gets two years because he's a multi millionaire.
- 11:49I think it's despicable, absolutely despicable and
- 11:52honest, honest to God, if you look at the big picture, I just
- 11:55think that the MLB needs to stay away from guys like this.
- 11:59He he, by the way, he got get what did he get?
- 12:02Like he had to make a couple of $1,000,000 off that deal with
- 12:05Tampa before, before there that, that contracts null and void.
- 12:09I, I would probably think that he probably brought in about
- 12:11fifty $60 million. Even if he never plays baseball
- 12:15again. The guy's a multimillionaire.
- 12:17So why does he care? I mean, he got away with murder
- 12:21and he's sitting there pretty still a multimillionaire.
- 12:23So I, I, I think it's despicable.
- 12:26I, I think it happened in the Dominican Republic, right?
- 12:29That's where it happened. It just shows you how much the
- 12:32Dominican Republic don't see eye to eye by the way, the rules and
- 12:36the way the regulations are. It's despicable.
- 12:40So a lot of them have had sexual assault or domestic violence
- 12:44issues in the past. A lot of them have come from
- 12:46there that MLB, I think some for some instances have done well in
- 12:50terms of disciplining, but it's different when you're dealing
- 12:52with a legal system that just is so.
- 12:54Flawed. No.
- 12:55In the league they'll let him back.
- 12:56No, in the league they'll let him back.
- 12:58Just. If that's the case, that's
- 13:00inexcusable if they let him back in the league and in fact that
- 13:03he's only getting two years like you're saying fish like not even
- 13:06like some formal jail type of thing like.
- 13:11I don't have much to say about it.
- 13:12I I just am a high school teacher who are around 14 year
- 13:15old girls like that. You're just like I, I can't even
- 13:18imagine what's wrong in your brain that makes you want to do
- 13:22anything like that. It's just so screwed up on so
- 13:24many levels. It's disgusting and I I hope he
- 13:28they never let his ass back. Into the league and Jabba said
- 13:30it best. The fact that the mother got 10
- 13:33years and he only got 2 years just says it just shows you how
- 13:38demented. She got, she got 10 years.
- 13:41She got 10 years because he was paying her 10s of thousands of
- 13:44dollars and it was considered sex sex trafficking of a minor.
- 13:48OK. And he was she.
- 13:50Was like pimping out her daughter.
- 13:51And he was doing it. He was doing it.
- 13:54So why is he not getting away with it?
- 13:57You're right though, there's a lot of places that are like very
- 14:01pro. I mean, not really where we are,
- 14:04but I there are a lot of countries and a lot of places
- 14:07that are going to be a lot more lenient to the men in these
- 14:09situations for some. Reason he They're only lenient
- 14:12to him because he's a superstar baseball player.
- 14:15Maybe. Maybe that's true.
- 14:16Maybe. That's it, and he's got money.
- 14:18They're giving him a slap on the wrist and it's great.
- 14:21I wouldn't be surprised if he paid the judge right onto the
- 14:24table. I wouldn't be surprised.
- 14:27I hope that's true so we can talk about that story because
- 14:30that would be some shit. I wouldn't.
- 14:32Be have you got anything to add? No, now let's move on.
- 14:35I got it's not a great story. Following up, it's the Kettle
- 14:38Marte story. Another really screwed up one.
- 14:42Now, Kettle Marte, also Dominican Republic.
- 14:45His mother died in a car accident 2017, and a lovely
- 14:49White Sox fan decided to Heckle him and make fun of the fact
- 14:54that his mother was dead and awful, things that I'm not even
- 14:58going to bother repeating digitally.
- 15:00Did you hear this excuse he was saying?
- 15:02I was like, I was just trying to say hi to his mom.
- 15:05That's he said. I, he said I thought your mom
- 15:07was a bop or something. Whatever a bop is.
- 15:10I have no idea what. That means I don't know.
- 15:13And then that's what that's what I read.
- 15:15And then apparently they heard Your mom deserve what she got.
- 15:21Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous to say to somebody.
- 15:26I mean, I, I look, I, my, my, I have a lot of relatives that
- 15:31have passed. You know, you have a lot.
- 15:34My, my parents are still here. Not my wife doesn't have her
- 15:37parents still. I can't imagine saying anything
- 15:40like that to someone who lost their one of their parents or
- 15:42both of their parents. It's one of the most disgusting
- 15:44things. I'm very happy the White Sox and
- 15:46then Major League Baseball found a way to make sure this guy
- 15:49doesn't come back to any games ever again.
- 15:51Errol. All these stories are
- 15:54disgusting. If somebody said anything about
- 15:57my dead mother, May May obviously my mom's not dead, but
- 16:00said something about my father and I was playing on a baseball
- 16:04field. I, I go into the dugout, I grab
- 16:06a baseball bat and go after that guy.
- 16:08That's what I would do. I I that is despicable.
- 16:12And the fact that baseball stepped in and actually did the
- 16:14right thing here, that says a lot.
- 16:16But I still don't like Rob Manfred, as Jabba calls him.
- 16:21He's an ass And and I just think I think baseball never makes the
- 16:25right decisions. They finally made the right
- 16:26decision here. Look what they did looking at
- 16:29baseball with the Yankees in in the World Series.
- 16:32Look at that. Look at what happened there.
- 16:35I mean, obviously we know that those two, those two guys in the
- 16:40in the outfields are trying to RIP the ball and RIP.
- 16:42What's his name again? Bets his arm right off his body
- 16:47and they get a slap on the wrist.
- 16:49I I just. It's pathetic.
- 16:50Baseball, But but you know, but that's not as bad as what?
- 16:54This guy did to Marte, well, that hold on one second, Mookie
- 16:57Betts could have been permanently injured.
- 17:00Goff a bit, one of those guys, one of those guys ripped and
- 17:03teared out at his arm. Yeah, yeah, but he would have
- 17:06been just fine. It's not talking about a dead
- 17:08parent. Like, yeah, break my wrist, I
- 17:11can't play ever again. Fine.
- 17:13I'm taken care of, but don't talk about my family.
- 17:16Talk about me, touch me, try to fight me.
- 17:18I don't care. Don't.
- 17:20You're not talking about my family.
- 17:22That's just there's no if ands or buts.
- 17:24Break my leg great. My I got hit in a car accident.
- 17:29Going to the game sucks. Covered, paid don't matter.
- 17:34But you're not going to yell at me about my family.
- 17:36That's just not it. No.
- 17:39I mean this this happened. First of all, the people around
- 17:41him should have beat his ass. Yeah, if I hear that and it was
- 17:46just they were young. He was 22.
- 17:48The best is This is why I love the Internet.
- 17:52They wouldn't release his name. Oh, hold on 32nd boys.
- 17:57It took all of the Internet about 8 minutes before his name
- 18:00was all out there and so and it's it's going to follow him.
- 18:04I hope he gets his ass beat. It's reprehensible, man.
- 18:09What do you got goody? I mean, I just think people, I
- 18:13think fans just need, it's great to Heckle.
- 18:15It's all that. It's part of the game, part it
- 18:17comes with, it comes with being a professional athlete.
- 18:21You take it, you take the hits, whatever.
- 18:23But I think at the end of the day, like, realize that the
- 18:28people that are out there are humans too, you know?
- 18:31And like, yeah, you're supposed to let stuff roll off your back
- 18:36and all that. And.
- 18:37But some things hit home a little more than others.
- 18:40And that's probably you got to draw the line somewhere.
- 18:45And that's, that was definitely crossing the line.
- 18:48I mean, you just treat others how you want to be treated.
- 18:51You know what I'm saying? And that should be fine.
- 18:53Like you go to a game, you pay money, you should be able to
- 18:56Heckle somebody. But when it gets super personal
- 18:59like that and you're talking about dead relatives or whatever
- 19:04the case may be, like just know that that dude is a person to is
- 19:10a real person dealing with the same issues that you're dealing
- 19:12with. He just happens to have he or
- 19:14she just happens to have a cool job.
- 19:17We don't go to your desk job and heffle you about your dead
- 19:20mother. You know what I'm saying?
- 19:22But like. Yeah, it's just crazy.
- 19:25Bro be professional like. I I got a question that I I need
- 19:29answered though right now. Speedy, what's the meanest thing
- 19:34you've ever yelled at somebody? Does it compare to this?
- 19:40So I don't think you have a mean bone in your body.
- 19:43No, I'm not that way personal. But can you think like maybe
- 19:48you're angry at like your brothers or maybe your dog?
- 19:51You know something? What?
- 19:52What's like the meanest thing you've?
- 19:53Ever or Errol? Or Errol for sure.
- 19:58Could be Errol. It's.
- 20:01Not anything close to that. I'm more.
- 20:05I'm more. Petty, you stink.
- 20:07I'm more petty. OK, That's a general one.
- 20:09I think everyone said that at some point in their lives.
- 20:11I don't think he's ever come at me with anything I don't really
- 20:16I've ever heard of. I've known Speedy now over 10
- 20:19years and I don't think he's ever come at me in any kind of
- 20:23angry way where I'm like, man, that guy's got some temper.
- 20:27I've never seen it. Never.
- 20:30Never. I used to Heckle Steve Mason at
- 20:34Rangers Flyers games and and just scream as soon as it got
- 20:37real quiet that he had a sandy vagina.
- 20:39Really, really loud and it was hilarious every.
- 20:42Time I can't do it. On this show, I thought.
- 20:43It was funny. That's not even that bad.
- 20:45Yeah, that's easy. As bad as I've got it.
- 20:47I would, I would, I would laugh. I would like if you Heckle me
- 20:52and it's good, I will turn around and give you credit like
- 20:56if it's funny and like you see all these dudes like and they
- 21:01talk about you like boobs or butt, left hand, right hand,
- 21:04like dude, that stuff like that's part of the game.
- 21:07That's what's fun. And if you're like, you Heckle
- 21:09me and say something that's great.
- 21:11I'll I'll literally turning and clap for you and be like, dude,
- 21:14I haven't heard that one. That's a good one.
- 21:16And then they're like, oh, and then they're like, Oh, sweet.
- 21:20And I'm like this. That's what's that's the fun
- 21:23part about it. And then you got idiots like
- 21:25Chad Wilson is his name, by the way, So all of our fans that are
- 21:29listening, did you ever run into him?
- 21:31Punch him in the face for me. Generic name, yeah.
- 21:35Corny. Chad.
- 21:37Chad Wilson. Oh yeah, that's some fun.
- 21:40Then people take it too far. I'm just like, yeah, Lee Doo
- 21:44Doo, Doo Doo. All right, let's, let's move
- 21:47through. We got to some really
- 21:49fascinating story. I don't know if you saw this,
- 21:52this is a few days ago, but Fernando Tatis Junior is filing
- 21:55a lawsuit against an agency he signed with when he was a
- 21:58teenager that's now trying to basically extort him with that
- 22:03contract he signed as a kid for around just under $40 million.
- 22:08I I wanted to see if you guys, especially, you know, Nick and,
- 22:11and Jabba, you guys have any stories similar you've heard
- 22:15from guys or maybe you personal about these types of predatory
- 22:18agencies going after young guys these days?
- 22:22And Errol, if you had any experience with stuff like that
- 22:24when you were playing, you know, in your teens playing like
- 22:27really competitive elite hockey too.
- 22:29Like, let's start with you, Errol.
- 22:31You have anything? What was your question?
- 22:33I'm sorry I was. I was fixing my ear thing.
- 22:37The these like agents and agencies, they promise you the
- 22:40world and then they RIP you off and.
- 22:42Actually, it's it's it's good because I was just on the phone
- 22:46with two agents today working with Preston Carey and they're,
- 22:51they're hungry. That's what they are.
- 22:53Preston is, is doing an announcement as he's going to,
- 22:58he's going to choose where he's going to college.
- 23:00They're his agent is spending over $50,000 for this event, 50K
- 23:06to set this up so he can announce at the Eureka Castle
- 23:11that he's going where he's going to go to college.
- 23:14And listen, I. Who's this?
- 23:16Who's this agent? I'm not going to mention his
- 23:18name. I can't really.
- 23:19I can't really say. Bullshit, I can just look it up.
- 23:23I can't say I'm sorry. Not on.
- 23:25Not on air, Not. Off the air.
- 23:26Off the air I can. Off the air I can I?
- 23:28Can't really. It's public knowledge at some
- 23:30point. Yeah, I know, but I, I'm not
- 23:33going to say that. But listen, his agent's a good
- 23:35guy. I'm not saying that he's a bad
- 23:36dude. They're both really, really nice
- 23:38guys. I I just think that, you know,
- 23:41every agent is is just trying to make money and, and if.
- 23:46This kid turns out to be a super.
- 23:47This, this is not an agency that what this is, is these guys,
- 23:52these guys are these guys are like a pool of money that get
- 23:56together. We all, we're betting on
- 23:58Fernando Tatis as 17 year old. We're giving him $2,000,000
- 24:03upfront as a 17 or 18 year old. And in the agreement he he
- 24:08agrees to give us 10% of all his future earnings.
- 24:12Now Fernando Tatis goes out there and blows his ACLL, here's
- 24:16his Tommy John. He retains the $2,000,000 ever
- 24:21makes another dollar again. And that's a bad investment on
- 24:23their part. Now if he goes out and signs the
- 24:26$330 million deal or whatever that he signed, now that agency
- 24:32that upfronted him $2,000,000 as a 17 year old is expected to get
- 24:37their $32 million back and return.
- 24:40And does it suck? Yes.
- 24:42Is it exploitation? Maybe.
- 24:44But at the same time as a 17 year old and you're getting a
- 24:47check for $2,000,000, you don't know what the future holds.
- 24:51I mean what I mean, it's a shitty deal.
- 24:56It's a shitty deal. If you bet, if you're, if you
- 24:58feel like you're going to bet on, if you bet on yourself and
- 25:00you know you're going to be, you know, you just have the, you
- 25:02know, I'm going to be good, then that could happen.
- 25:04Andrew Heaney signed a deal like that not too long ago and the
- 25:08actual, the, the company I guess went under and the deal fell
- 25:11through and he got to retain the $5,000,000 or whatever that they
- 25:14gave him. They come after a lot of people.
- 25:16The the issue is you have to surround yourself with people
- 25:20that are financially sound so that they can make a better
- 25:23decision for you or with you. Like $2,000,000 is a lot of
- 25:27money to a 17 year old, $2,000,000 a lot of money in
- 25:29general, but like 10% of your future earnings, that's a huge
- 25:33chunk of change, especially when you turned out to be a freaking
- 25:38star. And that's where it that's the,
- 25:41that's the whole issue. So it's not that they're
- 25:43necessarily taking advantage. What they're doing is keying on,
- 25:46on certain keying in on certain players that they think have the
- 25:49best potential to make them the most money, offering them X
- 25:53amount of dollars upfront in hopes that on the back end they
- 25:56will recoup that plus more. And so it's, I mean, it's a is
- 26:02it bad? I don't know because if.
- 26:06He. If he broke, it's gambling.
- 26:08You're gambling. That's what you're doing.
- 26:10You're signing a contract. But it's, it's the same thing
- 26:13like when I was in college, we took a Lloyds of London out if
- 26:17God forbid something happened and I got hurt because I was
- 26:19projected as a first round draft pick.
- 26:21So they were like, hey, I talked to a buddy that was drafted in
- 26:25the first round before and he was like, I got a Lloyds of
- 26:27London just in case I get hit by a car.
- 26:29I can't do this. I'm still covered of what
- 26:31projected that I was. Yes, we had to give a lot of
- 26:34stuff. We had to go do a physical and
- 26:35all the other stuff, but it was a it was a one time fee where
- 26:39if, God forbid, something happened to me, I was covered.
- 26:43But if nothing happened to me, it was like, all right, boom.
- 26:46But what this happens to more is, is not the American born
- 26:50players. It does happen.
- 26:52They'll find, but it's just, it's not agencies, they'll do
- 26:56this a lot for the Dominican kids, Venezuelan guys like that
- 27:00where it's like, hey, we can get you over here and you know what,
- 27:04we'll give you X amount of dollars, but it's anywhere from
- 27:09like 10 to 15% future and it may pay off.
- 27:12It doesn't sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't and it's,
- 27:15it's not uncommon to see stuff like that.
- 27:17It's just weird that it's just coming out like this now.
- 27:21Well, it's because it's 32,000,000 and not like 500
- 27:24grand. Yeah, exactly. 32,000,000 is a
- 27:28lot. And I mean, I can see both sides
- 27:30of the story, you know, so. All right, let's, let's get out
- 27:34of this segment. We got two things left in it.
- 27:36We always do an injury report, huge injury to Arizona.
- 27:40Corbin Carroll gets hit in the wrist play.
- 27:43He's out for a couple of games. They find out after the swelling
- 27:46goes down. He has a fracture in the wrist.
- 27:48He's going out for quite a while.
- 27:50There were two foul balls in the dugout that took out two guys.
- 27:55A guy named pitcher named, I guess it was biggie or big.
- 27:59He had to be carted off. You got hit, you got blasted.
- 28:03And then caber Ruiz had a concussion from getting hit in
- 28:06the head. Just being in the dugout.
- 28:08I, I, you see now, like you don't see it as much like when I
- 28:13was a kid, like they didn't have the fencing of protecting the
- 28:16dugout. But guys, are you like, like it
- 28:20just feels like you're inviting death sometimes with the way
- 28:25that some of these balls and sometimes the bat fly into that
- 28:28dugout. Like, yeah, have you ever had
- 28:29to, like, really Scurry a couple times there, boys.
- 28:33My last my my last game I was at in the collegiate league, we had
- 28:37a kind of throw a bat didn't even actually it was a broken
- 28:40bat. He broke a bomb bat, which is
- 28:42like a composite wood bat. It's kind of crazy and flying
- 28:45over. He wasn't even paying attention.
- 28:46The media girl was like jumping out of the way, and I mean, it
- 28:50landed right in front of us. I mean, if your head's on a
- 28:52swivel while you're in the dugout, you definitely it needs
- 28:58to be because flying bats and baseball's coming in at 100
- 29:04miles an hour don't feel good to the face.
- 29:08I can't imagine. I've had I've had to dodge.
- 29:11I caught one on a roshay. That was the worst it got.
- 29:14I mean, I got hit with comebackers.
- 29:16But yeah, if you're, if you're just sitting there in in the
- 29:21dugout, I mean, yeah, you're looking around or whatever, but
- 29:25pay attention because it's like you don't have time to react and
- 29:29it's just like, oh boy, here we go.
- 29:31But yeah, I never, I had to scurry a couple times, but I
- 29:35never caught one directly. I caught one off a ricochet.
- 29:38Yikes. I mean, I haven't gotten one.
- 29:42I just, I'm always, it's always like the scariest thing.
- 29:45What's your worst comebacker, Goody?
- 29:52I have it on video actually. Probably I had a cup.
- 29:55I've had like 2. Memories.
- 29:56We'll save that for another segment.
- 29:59Yeah, it was the one in spring training.
- 30:01I got the, I got the picture and everything.
- 30:05I do want to see that picture. Cutter Crawford out for the
- 30:10season in off field accident to his pitching hand and wrist.
- 30:15Errol, this guy had a really good season last year.
- 30:18It looked like he was breaking out to be part of this Red Sox
- 30:21rotation that had all this promise.
- 30:25No, not not this year. The promise has gone from that
- 30:29rotation and this is a big reason why.
- 30:33I don't know if they're going to go after his money, but they're
- 30:36probably going to go after his money.
- 30:38Well there's there's a reason they said off field incident and
- 30:41didn't say what it was. Very specifically didn't say
- 30:44what it was. They didn't take, they didn't
- 30:46take mine when I was jumping on a trampoline, so.
- 30:51That that is related to this, that I, I can't believe that I
- 30:54hate that that's true. Do you, do you guys remember,
- 30:58remember Aaron Boone? Remember, Aaron Boone was
- 31:00supposed to get a contract the year after when he hit that that
- 31:03winning home run that sent? The playing pick up basketball.
- 31:07Tori's knee playing pick up basketball.
- 31:08You're right. And it screwed him out out of a
- 31:10contract and all that other stuff and all those other
- 31:13stories that you've heard over the years.
- 31:15Honestly, the Red Sox aren't going to come out and tell the
- 31:17truth because if they do, it'll make the kid look really, really
- 31:20bad. But they're definitely going to
- 31:22go after his month. The only thing that saved me was
- 31:25I was with my son so I didn't look like an absolute piece of
- 31:28shit. You weren't like skiing like in
- 31:33Vail or something? No, you weren't supposed to,
- 31:35right? This guy.
- 31:37You know what? Funny story about that?
- 31:38Tina Martinez? Tina Martinez, brother in law's
- 31:41want to pick me up? How about that He?
- 31:44Was one of the paramedics really?
- 31:47What do I have here? Oh, Speedy, I want to hear what
- 31:50you think about this Adli Rushman injury, because Adli
- 31:53Rushman, when he came up, was supposed to be the best catcher
- 31:57in baseball, best best catcher at calling the game, best
- 32:01hitting catcher. He hit at every level he hit his
- 32:04first year. And now he can't hit the
- 32:07broadside of a barn for most of the season.
- 32:10And now he's gotten an oblique. And in fact, they said it was a
- 32:12light oblique strain, but they decided that they're going to
- 32:15sit him out past the All Star break anyway.
- 32:18Why do you, I have some suspicions why they're doing
- 32:21that. But what do you what have you
- 32:22noticed about it's supposed to be the star player for this
- 32:26Orioles team? Yeah, it's interesting because
- 32:28obviously the big name hype wise before him was Matt Wieders in
- 32:32the same organization. He looked good in the beginning
- 32:34of his career too. And then he had similar kind of
- 32:35injury issues and never recovered.
- 32:37He ended up going to Washington, never resigned with them.
- 32:39Now Rushman I think is supposed to have higher upside
- 32:41offensively than Wieders did at the time.
- 32:43And like you said, first three years of his career was pretty
- 32:46durable. Obviously the power numbers were
- 32:48as high as you can get last year.
- 32:49And now for someone this year that in a in a year where the
- 32:53Orioles have had tough injury walk as it is, I think the
- 32:56Dodger, it was the Dodgers, the White Sox and them I think have
- 32:59had the most IL stints like combined this year with
- 33:01everybody. But yeah, you wonder, I guess
- 33:03maybe they're trying to extend it where because it's hard to
- 33:05find catchers as it is that kind of foundation you want to have
- 33:09at that position. So maybe that's why they're
- 33:11extending him out. And I guess with the way you,
- 33:12like you said he was struggling. He looked like he finally was
- 33:14getting back and then struggled again.
- 33:16So maybe that's the reason they extended even further to not to
- 33:20protect that I. Told you this was going to
- 33:22happen by the way. With with Rushman, Orioles.
- 33:25OK. With their Orioles offense and.
- 33:28Here from hell for them. I'm waiting to see Jackson
- 33:31holiday break out. I don't know what's going on
- 33:33with this kid, but it's. Starting.
- 33:35To a little bit, starting to a little bit.
- 33:37But you're right, it's not what anyone thought this year.
- 33:39I thought they were going to be a playoff team.
- 33:41I think a lot of people thought that as well.
- 33:43But you're right, Errol, absolutely.
- 33:45There's one other guy on this injury list.
- 33:47This is a weird injury. Usually you hear about the
- 33:50labrum in the shoulder. This is the labrum in the hip.
- 33:53The only other hip labrum injury I remember was a rod.
- 33:57Remember, a rod was having these Labradors.
- 33:59Had that same surgery as a rod did same surgery really yes.
- 34:04I had four hooks put in a rod had five put in.
- 34:08You know it's. It's so they got to hook it back
- 34:10on to the hip. So what they do, So what happens
- 34:13is, is they go in arthroscopic and they go, they, they put
- 34:18three holes in your hip and they go in And what they do is they,
- 34:23they cut the muscle, they shave the bone and they reattach the
- 34:27muscle with hooks. And then you're on crutches for
- 34:30a month. You can't walk on on that leg.
- 34:34And then you have to rehabilitate yourself and you
- 34:36got to teach yourself how to walk again.
- 34:38It's true. It's, it's horrible.
- 34:40You might as well get a hip replacement because ever since
- 34:43then I have not been the same. Just so everybody knows, don't
- 34:46ever do it. It's the worst surgery and it's
- 34:49terrible. It's terrible to try to heal in
- 34:51any of, in any situation when it comes to this kind of stuff.
- 34:54So I, I had the same. And by the way, one of the
- 34:58doctors, he had four doctors in his surgery.
- 35:01One of them, Doctor Germano was to say he was a part of a rod.
- 35:05He was there a part of a rod surgery.
- 35:08He did my surgery. He did a terrible job.
- 35:10By the way, just so everybody knows, don't go to Doctor
- 35:13Dorado. It it, it doesn't sound like the
- 35:15type of injury that is horrible. I still don't feel the same.
- 35:19Marlins prospect was have a Goodyear.
- 35:22He didn't look right all year and now I think we know why.
- 35:25Let's hope you can bounce back from that and notice just a
- 35:27couple of names. Notice, just so you know, notice
- 35:30ever since that hip surgery era was never the same, so.
- 35:33I just don't know how you come back from that and be as
- 35:36athletic. So I have 5.
- 35:37I'm gonna start doing this. I'll.
- 35:39Give you one. That was, though, Alex Gordon.
- 35:43Yes, yes, Alex Gordon Did I think I was.
- 35:46Scored Jason Electric, Jacob Wilson.
- 35:49Fast, yeah. But they were young, weren't
- 35:52they? Younger than a rod?
- 35:53I mean a rod did it later in his.
- 35:55Career a rod. Was older in his career.
- 35:57Back on track. So I got 5, got 5 names to to
- 36:00give you. We already talked about Burns a
- 36:02little bit. Did you know that Jacob Wilson
- 36:04is the son of Jack Wilson, former great infielder,
- 36:08defensive infielder for the Pirates back in the day.
- 36:11So he's having probably going to be the rookie of the year in the
- 36:13American League. He's hitting 350, like a legit
- 36:16350. Doesn't strike out at all.
- 36:19He's walks more than he strikes out as a rookie.
- 36:22That's very uncommon. Not he has some pop, not a ton.
- 36:25He's probably going to finish around 15 homers and maybe 10
- 36:29stolen bases. But this is the next big time
- 36:32contact hitter coming into the league.
- 36:34Keep an eye on Jacob Wilson, Chase Burns.
- 36:37I got the highlight. I'm going to put it up right
- 36:39now. You guys were talking about it
- 36:40earlier, starts off facing the Yankees, starts off his career
- 36:44striking out five Yankees in a row and crude, including Judge.
- 36:48Just an absolute stud performance.
- 36:51I want to hear a little bit from our pitchers on this highlight
- 36:54I'm about to put up right here. Goody Cincinnati rats look.
- 36:59At this strikes out eight. I think I have the 1st 6 on
- 37:03there. It's electric.
- 37:04It's electric. Look at this.
- 37:07Swag too, the. Spark they need to get.
- 37:09In these. He's a big dude.
- 37:12Yeah, it's electric stuff, dude. I mean, this is what you want in
- 37:15a starter. Pair that with hunter green.
- 37:17Yeah. When he gets back he should be
- 37:19back in like a few weeks I think.
- 37:21Yeah. I mean, this is a big time, big
- 37:24time prospect. I think the Reds are just
- 37:27scratching the surface of how good they're going to be that
- 37:30that's the name. I would keep an eye on that
- 37:32because if they can get Burns going and Hunter Green back.
- 37:36And LA, like Cruz, should be an All Star too.
- 37:38And he's, and he's not even in the in the final ballot or
- 37:42whatever he. Didn't make the day too.
- 37:44I never played that I. Don't.
- 37:45I don't understand how that's working.
- 37:46We'll talk about that more next week when they reveal the rest
- 37:49of the All Stars. But they revealed just Judge and
- 37:54Otani today. As if we needed to know that.
- 37:58Andy Paihez, Speedy. Not pages Paihez.
- 38:02He is the center fielder for the Dodgers.
- 38:04He has something like a one, like almost 140 WRC.
- 38:08Plus, this year he's playing out of his mind, and the Dodgers
- 38:12have needed every last bit of it, haven't they?
- 38:14Yeah, he was a backup on their roster last year, kind of a
- 38:16defensive replacement center fielder.
- 38:18Now he's actually become a well-rounded hitter too.
- 38:20Not overly special at really anything, but he's a good
- 38:23balance of occasional pop. I think he's got thirteen home
- 38:26runs and pretty steady 27280 hitter.
- 38:30And again, like you said to us, they've needed a lot of them to
- 38:33get the depth in that lineup going because a lot of the kids
- 38:35have gotten hurt. Obviously the pitchers have
- 38:37gotten hurt, so they've needed more from their their lineup as
- 38:39well. But there's a really pretty
- 38:40steady in a Dodgers outfield that outside of bets has really
- 38:44had a lot of rotation with that. Obviously they waved Chris
- 38:47Taylor, but they've kind of platooned that position a lot.
- 38:50But now Pat has emerged as a full time starter after he was a
- 38:53backup much of the year last year.
- 38:55All right, and let's finish this up.
- 38:57Let's talk about the two old men.
- 38:59Errol Jacob degrom had a no hitter into the 8th yesterday.
- 39:04He seems to be quite possibly all the way back finally from
- 39:08all those injuries he suffered this season.
- 39:11Listen to this. Three WAR, 3 point O WAR eight
- 39:14and two record. 2 point O, 8 ERA, 16 games, 16 games started,
- 39:2195 innings, 94 strikeouts .881 win.
- 39:29Sounds like he's back. Well, I love Jacob degrom and he
- 39:32deserves all the credit in the world coming back two years.
- 39:35It took him almost 2 1/2 years to get back to where he is.
- 39:39If he could just stay healthy. If, if the Rangers make the
- 39:42playoffs, how scary is that rotation going to be?
- 39:45Two guys, two guys that have done it before and it's done it
- 39:48in the playoffs. And Nathan Ivaldi, too.
- 39:51Just think about that you have Jacob degrom and Nathan Ivaldi
- 39:56as your 1-2 punch in the playoffs.
- 39:58Scary. And I think the Rangers could
- 40:00make if they sneak in as a wild card because they're probably
- 40:03not going to win the division. It's still early.
- 40:06I they're they're probably more scary than any team right now in
- 40:09the American League With that they.
- 40:10Got to figure out their offense. Them in Kansas City have like
- 40:13really league bad offenses. Their pitching are so good
- 40:16collectively. Yeah, and the only other thing I
- 40:19want to talk about is Clayton Kershaw.
- 40:21Jabba said it 5 strikeouts away from 3000.
- 40:25He's been pitching well since he's come back this time.
- 40:28One hit, one run ball, his last start.
- 40:31Very exciting player. He's a surefire first ballot
- 40:34Hall of Famer. Jabba, I want to you know, were
- 40:39you that still there when CC got 3000?
- 40:43No, I had just. I had just left, but yeah, I
- 40:48mean, I saw a bunch of C's accomplishments, but yeah, I
- 40:53it's crazy. We'll probably never see it
- 40:55again just because guys aren't going to stay around long enough
- 40:58because the contracts are so crazy.
- 41:02I don't know if we're, there might be one or two sprinkle in
- 41:05there, but I don't think there's going to be that many more.
- 41:07And you know, you've got 2 left handers that have done it in the
- 41:10last. You know, we just got one in the
- 41:11Hall of Fame and you know, here probably seven years later,
- 41:15we'll have another one. So, yeah, I think some of these,
- 41:19you know, wins and and strikeouts are, are going to be
- 41:23sprinkled in, but I just don't think a lot of guys are going to
- 41:25pitch long enough anymore just with the money that's that's
- 41:27being made. All right, and boys, that wraps
- 41:31up another great rendition of Inside Baseball.
- 41:35Cootie, what are your thoughts to that too?
- 41:37What were your thoughts to that? Kershaw.
- 41:42Clayton Kershaw. Oh, he's a Hall of Famer and
- 41:47that's not even a question. He's one of the best pitchers of
- 41:49our generation. I mean, one of the best
- 41:51curveball. He's he is Mr. Dodger.
- 41:53Like, I mean, he just needs he just needs to get it done the
- 41:57postseason. But and and.
- 41:59One of the greatest dudes ever. Yeah, I mean, he saw his hat,
- 42:04you know, I thought that was pretty cool of him to do.
- 42:08But yeah, I mean, he'll get his. He'll get his 3000 and you know,
- 42:13I think this this should probably be his last year.
- 42:16I don't foresee him pitching again after this and right off
- 42:19into the sunset. And then I'm sure he'll find his
- 42:21way in the booth or a. Made-up A made-up job that they
- 42:26make. Up they'll probably be a special
- 42:28assistant that those guys are like the Albert Pools is the
- 42:31audio Molina's like those guys are your those guys are your
- 42:34face, your your franchise for a long time.
- 42:37And so you want to keep them around to teach the younger
- 42:39generation how to go and how to pitch for 30 years, John.
- 42:42Was invent a position for him and paid and deferred money.
- 42:46100. Percent did.
- 42:47You do you guys remember what Joe Torrey said about Clayton
- 42:50Kershaw when he took over and and he managed them?
- 42:54I remember him saying Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher he's
- 42:56ever coached, he's ever managed in his career.
- 42:59And you're you're talking about some great pitchers over there
- 43:03with the New York Yankees. And he went out there and said
- 43:05Clayton Kershaw is filthy. I remember, I remember that so.
- 43:11First like 10 years or whatever, his first, like his first five
- 43:15or six seasons, he had like a one something, I remember
- 43:18looking it up, it was absolutely ridiculous how good number, like
- 43:21how good his numbers were. I mean, it was like it's very
- 43:25much video game numbers. You're just looking at him and
- 43:28you're like, how? Same thing with every game.
- 43:31Too right? The guy went deep in every game.
- 43:33Starting when. He was young, electric, he's
- 43:36just getting, it's all the time is winning and that's just the
- 43:38way it is. But he's got his championships,
- 43:40he's got his, he's got all the accolades and and now he's going
- 43:44to get to 3000 and ride off into the sunset and then come back as
- 43:48a special assistant. What they all do.
- 43:53So we all try to do only Only the greats get it though I guess
- 43:57we. Got to bring Goody in, by the
- 44:02way. I, I just want to let everybody,
- 44:04I want to let everybody know our boy Nick Goody is in Cleveland
- 44:08right now. And he is going to be, he is
- 44:11going to be doing the pregame and postgame show for the
- 44:15Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. And he's doing some color for
- 44:19the Cleveland Guardians as well. Nick, what's up, man?
- 44:22How's Cleveland? It's hot.
- 44:25Bro. It's.
- 44:28Hot. It's hot.
- 44:28What? What is it?
- 44:29It was hot. It's hot.
- 44:31It's like 9393. I left Florida 97 come up here.
- 44:34Cleveland, it's 93. Went and caught the game.
- 44:38Tail end of the game. Watch Gosman throw.
- 44:40I play with him at at Ellis. He was good to see him but took
- 44:43it to us. Got to catch up with Kipnis.
- 44:46Kipnis was doing a little pre and post game analysis as well.
- 44:49He's on his way to Chicago. He's going to pick up a couple
- 44:51series there too so it's good to catch up with.
- 44:53Kip missed Lonnie Chisenhall. Not sure if Jabba played with
- 44:57Lonnie Chisenhall but I'm pretty sure he played with Kipnis.
- 45:00But aside from that, I mean caught up with a few few of my
- 45:04buddies. One of my buddies bought check
- 45:06this out, it was pretty cool. I can't wait to see this.
- 45:09One. Not many, not many people know,
- 45:11but Yankees are like all their stuff is owned by Steiner
- 45:16Sports. So I never really got a chance
- 45:18to get my jerseys there. So they sell them on eBay and
- 45:22one of my buddies that was up here got, I think this is like
- 45:25my Yankees, my Yankee Stadium debut jersey.
- 45:30Oh wow, sweet. Pretty dope.
- 45:35Yeah, I wore like I'm more like 12 different numbers in New
- 45:38York. So this is I had I had to make
- 45:40sure, but Steiner Sports takes everything.
- 45:42So yeah, Nick, that's. That's from Brandon Steiner,
- 45:46right? Yeah, I guess I don't know
- 45:49Steiner sports, so whoever. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:53So. You go over there, Nathan, you
- 45:54know those guys. I know Brandon.
- 45:56I know Brandon. I, I know Brandon Steiner.
- 45:58I'm I'm good friends with him. He sold it.
- 46:01Collect collectibles, exchange Java.
- 46:04No, I'm. I'm telling you, yeah.
- 46:06He doesn't own Steiner. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:08Anyways, it's from Steiner Sports, so you got it.
- 46:11Thought it was pretty cool. Shout out to Seth.
- 46:13Thank you for that. That was pretty awesome little
- 46:16gift. And we have this, we have the
- 46:18Cardinals coming in this series. So I got to got to do a little
- 46:21research on the cards. Who where'd they put you up at?
- 46:25I'm at the Residence Inn right now.
- 46:28I just told him to give me a Marriott so I can collect the
- 46:30points. But this this hotel was either
- 46:36this or like stay at the casino. And I think I don't think the
- 46:40casino is the right spot for me, although it's it's you know, I'm
- 46:43too lazy to walk the half a block right now, but I'm like
- 46:47literally this room is like 2 stories.
- 46:49I have an upstairs. It's massive.
- 46:53I'm like taking. Care of you, they taking care of
- 46:54you, that's what you're. Saying hey, dude, look at this.
- 46:56Yeah, well, all the way up there got freaking wow, look at.
- 47:01You, man, you're living large. I guess.
- 47:05People sleep on Cleveland a little bit.
- 47:07It was great city. I mean the people are great.
- 47:10Like went to barrio. I hadn't had barrio in a while
- 47:13and so it was good and are. You doing pre and post?
- 47:19Yeah, I'll do pre and post Saturday and then radio color
- 47:23radio on Sunday, and then next month I have three games against
- 47:27the Rockies and then in August 2 against Seattle.
- 47:30Well, who's your mediator? Immediate Nathan.
- 47:37No, like for real. Look, Nathan's face is frozen.
- 47:40I got to take a. I'll have one of this.
- 47:44That's you're getting radio jobs before me.
- 47:46This is bullshit. I mean, they kind of just, they
- 47:53kind of like they asked if I wanted to do it on Sunday and I
- 47:56said yeah, Droba said. Why not?
- 47:59Might. As well.
- 48:02You guys are, it's good. It's good that you're here
- 48:05because that means you get to join us on this segment that we
- 48:08haven't had you on in a while. Yes, it's really great.
- 48:10And it's called so. Busy.
- 48:12A call to the pen it's. Done.
- 48:14There we go, I think. You can throw a strike on this
- 48:16pitch. It's not going to be my John.
- 48:17It feels like jello right now. Just get it over the plate.
- 48:20I want him to swing. Last time I did that the guy hit
- 48:22one that hasn't landed yet. Or a call to the pen.
- 48:25Groba, Groba. All right, guys, a call to the
- 48:35pen, Tommy, get the baseball music going in the background
- 48:39and what we're just going to start off and just we always.
- 48:42Talk about something. That happened either recently in
- 48:45baseball or something. That's just like a general topic
- 48:49that we wouldn't be able to get an answer from an inside source
- 48:52without asking two of our baseball athletes on the on the
- 48:57show, both Nick Goody and Jabba Chamberlain.
- 49:00Guys, did you see the O'Neill Cruz play the other day that got
- 49:05him basically benched? What not hustling down the line?
- 49:10Well, there's a little bit more than that.
- 49:11He forgot how many outs there were and he's hitting two O 1 I
- 49:16believe right now after a real good start to the season.
- 49:20He's leading off that team. We've talked about a story about
- 49:24the Pirates every other week this year.
- 49:26Either at the front office is screwed up, the ownership is
- 49:29screwed up or just the team itself can't put a good thing on
- 49:32the on the field. It's it's pretty wild.
- 49:34We're going to talk a little bit about skiings a little later in
- 49:37the show, but for now, I wanted to see what you guys had to say
- 49:40about this O'Neill Cruz situation and players generally
- 49:43when they lose focus on the field.
- 49:45How is that treated in the clubhouse?
- 49:47Have you seen it go right, go wrong and just general your
- 49:50general thoughts on this incident?
- 49:52Let's start it off with the big man on top, Mr. Jabba
- 49:56Chamberlain. Yeah, we've all seen it.
- 50:00I I think this is one of the ones that I think have a has
- 50:04accumulated and it's, it's gotten worse because there's a
- 50:08bunch of highlights that's that's happened before.
- 50:10Like then a ball gets past him and he doesn't muscle after it.
- 50:14He doesn't run through the bag like he sees it's going to be a
- 50:17double play, doesn't doesn't finish out it.
- 50:20So I, I don't think this is 1 certain play.
- 50:22I don't think it is. I think it's an accumulation of
- 50:24a bunch of things. And so finally you just got to
- 50:27be like, Hey, you know what, figure it out.
- 50:30Or if you don't, but you're going to sit right here.
- 50:32And that's what they did. And I think everybody handles it
- 50:35different. I think that team is completely
- 50:37different because in situations and good, you can probably talk
- 50:40about this as well where it usually when we see it as
- 50:45players, we handle it ourselves. And that more times than not
- 50:50works because there are times where you need to embarrass
- 50:54somebody, be like, dude, this isn't it.
- 50:56Like I don't care, there's no excuse for that.
- 51:00I would rather have a guy layout and miss it then pull up lane
- 51:04and be like, like we saw it with PCA and with the Cubs.
- 51:08He forgot how many outs there were.
- 51:10It happens. It's a brain fart, yeah.
- 51:13But when it continually happens like what we've seen with him,
- 51:18then it then it becomes a problem.
- 51:20We saw Larry Walker throw the ball and give the ball away and
- 51:23he's like, oh, there's only two outs.
- 51:24You know, it happens. There are things that happen
- 51:27like that. But I think when it comes down
- 51:29to it usually, and they're they're, that's where Kutch has
- 51:33to take over. I think honestly because he's
- 51:35the only one that can say anything at that point.
- 51:39Maybe Adam Fraser too. He's been around for quite a
- 51:41while. I mean, physical errors are
- 51:44going to happen. I don't think any, you know, you
- 51:46might get pissed off, especially as a player.
- 51:49You're pitching in, a physical error happens, but you know, the
- 51:51guys are not out there trying to make errors, mental mistakes,
- 51:54Those are more of the ones that like can't happen.
- 51:57They're going to happen throughout the course of the
- 51:59season. You play every single day.
- 52:01Sometimes you wake up on the road.
- 52:03You don't even know what city you're in.
- 52:04That happened to me multiple times.
- 52:06You wake up and you're in Detroit and you feel like you're
- 52:08like, I'm in Detroit. I thought I was in, I thought I
- 52:10was back home, you know, and so I get it.
- 52:14Guys are tired. We're getting to the mid midway
- 52:15part of the season. We're looking for the All Star
- 52:17break. We're looking for a little blow
- 52:19here. But if it continually happens,
- 52:22you know, then obviously something has to be done.
- 52:24And by sitting O'Neill Cruz or taking taking O'Neill Cruz out
- 52:28in that game is probably the right decision.
- 52:29Kind of just like, hey, you know, this is a you're kind of
- 52:33sending a message not just to him, but to the rest of the
- 52:35team. Like, listen, we have a standard
- 52:38here and you, you're not meeting that standard.
- 52:40And I don't think it was bad at all.
- 52:43Hopefully it's a wake up call for him and we get him back on
- 52:47the right track. And as Java said, once the
- 52:49manager deals with it, then Koch can come in and put his hand
- 52:53around him and not necessarily in front of the team, but maybe
- 52:57taking to dinner and see what's going on.
- 52:59We're, we're humans too. Listen, we're humans too.
- 53:01You don't have perfect days at work.
- 53:03Nobody has perfect days. Nobody's 100 for 100 and
- 53:06perfect, you know, being perfect at work.
- 53:08It happens. So happens in baseball and you
- 53:10can see it, it's magnified and it's bad.
- 53:13So, and of course the fans get on it, especially with people
- 53:16betting and all that. It's a big deal.
- 53:18So, you know, it's, it's part of it, part of it.
- 53:24You know, I, I, I had to just think about our, our host Errol
- 53:27Marx here for a second in his hockey career and what he would
- 53:31do as a leader on his team if someone wasn't pulling their
- 53:35weight on his line. How would would you have handled
- 53:38it so peaceably, Errol? What I would do is I go to the
- 53:42coach and tell him to sit every single person on the line and
- 53:44just throw me out there. I'm just kidding.
- 53:52Obviously, if, if they're not throwing their weights, you
- 53:54actually, you go out to if the usually if you're on the bad
- 53:59side of the coaches, you know, shit list, he sits you on the
- 54:03other side of the bench. And if you're the captain,
- 54:05you're the assistant captain of the team.
- 54:07You're you're sitting out there on the bench and you're trying
- 54:09to pump them up and try to get them moving in the right
- 54:12direction and playing better, better, you know, better hockey
- 54:14or or better baseball or whatever you're doing.
- 54:17You're you'll have to be a leader.
- 54:19And if if they don't like it, then you tell them to sit and
- 54:22ride the bench and they're not playing for the rest of the
- 54:24game, that's what that's what I would do.
- 54:27So. Well, let's I wonder how many
- 54:30weeks we go before our next pirate story.
- 54:33You're on Java in the mouth. We only got to really got to
- 54:36wait a few minutes. Might not be that long.
- 54:40Yeah, we will talk about them, but really more for the guy that
- 54:43beat them, Mr. Mizarowski. But we'll talk about him on
- 54:47Inside Baseball. This has been a call to the pen.
- 54:52Well, it's been an interesting one.
- 54:53Thank you to TJ Ward. He's had us.
- 54:55He's had a really good, you know, good takes when it came to
- 55:00football and and he's a great personality.
- 55:02And I didn't know he was an agent.
- 55:04That's a pretty cool thing. I I am.
- 55:06I've been He owns an. He owns an agency.
- 55:08He's not an. Agent, I'm sorry, he owns an.
- 55:10Agent. He can't legally say that.
- 55:12Yeah. What?
- 55:12What? Legally, you don't even have to
- 55:15be. You don't have to have a college
- 55:17education to be an agent. That's the truth.
- 55:19You just need to be. Certified.
- 55:20No, you just, you just have to be certified.
- 55:21You have to pass like a bar or something.
- 55:23Like that, No, you don't have to pass a.
- 55:24Bar it's a book and then you take a test.
- 55:26Yeah, it's just a test and, and honestly, I've met a lot of I
- 55:30went to the NHL draft quite a few times and after that I would
- 55:34they would a lot of the agents would go to these bars and a lot
- 55:37of them, especially the Ukraine Russian ones that are, you know,
- 55:41agents of a lot of the Russian players.
- 55:43They don't have any college education whatsoever.
- 55:46They don't have a law degree or nothing.
- 55:48They just know how to read. They know how to read contracts
- 55:51and they took the certification. Like Jabba said, that's all they
- 55:53had to do. Congratulations to Mr. Goody as
- 55:57he is doing his first Guardian postgame and pregame show.
- 56:01So looking forward to checking that out on Saturday and his
- 56:05first color with the Guardian too.
- 56:07So he'll be doing a couple of those this coming season with
- 56:10Colorado and all the the other games that he's going to be
- 56:13doing with. So congratulations to our boy
- 56:15Nick. Goody tell Andre not he can suck
- 56:19it. I will.
- 56:20I love him by the way, he's the best.
- 56:23I love him too. I'll tell him he's awesome.
- 56:26Again, thank you. He is awesome.
- 56:27Thank you to TJ Ward. He was fantastic for the time
- 56:29that he gave us. I know he's a busy dude, so
- 56:32thank you to him. And he's he has his own agency.
