Latest / The Follow-On / SECOND TEST REVIEW: ‘Stung by a bit of the criticism’ Gilly breaks down how Aussies turned it around in Adelaide
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to another episode of Fox Crickets Podcast one.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm coming to you from Adelaide and I'm delighted to
- 0:16Speaker 1: be joined by brilliant great Adam Gilchrist, who has bought
- 0:20Speaker 1: the coverage on Fox Cricket and KO Sports for the
- 0:23Speaker 1: last couple of days in Adelaide. And what an eventful
- 0:26Speaker 1: couple of days it was. Thanks for joining us.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Adam, Oh my pleasure, mate. Yeah, it was lively, wasn't it?
- 0:31Speaker 2: All done and dusted pretty quickly.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Very rapid. But I'm going to get into a couple
- 0:35Speaker 1: of way do you matters first before we get down
- 0:37Speaker 1: to the nitty gritty. I think I'll just start by
- 0:39Speaker 1: following up on the tail end of last week's podcast
- 0:42Speaker 1: with Michael Vaughan. We've discussed all things paddle. Now what
- 0:45Speaker 1: I want to know, because I know you're on the
- 0:47Speaker 1: court a lot. Who's a better player you or Vaughn
- 0:50Speaker 1: when it comes to uh to.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Paddle takes the title there. I mean, he plays every day,
- 0:57Speaker 2: so he should be decent by this stage. I don't
- 0:59Speaker 2: know what as he does in his life. Actually it's
- 1:01Speaker 2: pretty much paddle and commentate for us on Fox Crickets.
- 1:07Speaker 2: He's got a good touch. Good touch. He just moves
- 1:10Speaker 2: you around the court nicely and then he knows he
- 1:13Speaker 2: knows how to put your way. It's good fun, it's
- 1:16Speaker 2: a good game.
- 1:19Speaker 1: One of the things I've been enjoying in the last
- 1:21Speaker 1: couple of weeks Perth and how adelade is he get
- 1:23Speaker 1: the occasional front of the crew outgo for a wander
- 1:26Speaker 1: along the river, the beautiful Swan River in Perth. The
- 1:29Speaker 1: River Torrens here which is magnificent, separates Adelaide Oval from
- 1:34Speaker 1: the central business district. But they made the point that
- 1:36Speaker 1: you went racing past them on foot, so you clearly
- 1:39Speaker 1: got them a little bit in terms of your endurance
- 1:41Speaker 1: and agility. Is that true?
- 1:45Speaker 2: On the first morning, I felt like I needed to
- 1:48Speaker 2: run more than a walk, so I went. I set
- 1:53Speaker 2: off a bit later than there. I ended up running
- 1:57Speaker 2: past them and they were waddling along in their little
- 2:00Speaker 2: little walking groups. So I just went past them. I
- 2:04Speaker 2: cracked it up a little bit. You've got to do that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You've got to if you're run and past someone that
- 2:08Speaker 2: you know, you sort of got to lift the chest
- 2:10Speaker 2: up and stride out a little bit harder and quickest up.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You create the perception gotny that that's the way, that's
- 2:16Speaker 2: how fast and running on the whole run. But yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I then joined them for the rest of the rest
- 2:24Speaker 2: of the test in the walking groups. Good good fun,
- 2:26Speaker 2: good exercise clearly and good chat. It was a good chat,
- 2:29Speaker 2: very interesting topics of discussion that we get to.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Well, I was going to say it just one last
- 2:35Speaker 1: one on the lightest sort of side of things. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: you know, each every team that you're in, there's always
- 2:40Speaker 1: a character. It's always some banter, et cetera. Just extend
- 2:44Speaker 1: to the to the broadcast crew where you have to
- 2:47Speaker 1: have that bit of bit of banter because having had
- 2:50Speaker 1: the fortune to duck in at different stages, you see
- 2:52Speaker 1: that there's a lot going on in an actual office
- 2:54Speaker 1: and it's a fairly high stressful so the thing and
- 2:56Speaker 1: you always want to make sure you get it right.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So there's that banter or that that little bit of
- 3:00Speaker 1: back and forth between the team. You know, does that
- 3:03Speaker 1: make things easier to make it make for a bit
- 3:04Speaker 1: of team.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like any team you need, you need your
- 3:09Speaker 2: different personalities and we've got that. I think Kerry o'keef
- 3:12Speaker 2: can absolutely take the leaders start as being the entertainer
- 3:17Speaker 2: David Warner in a recent inclusion that's he's creating quite
- 3:22Speaker 2: a few interesting discussion topics with the content that he brings.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But there's always always a bit of taking the mickey
- 3:31Speaker 2: going on and how he's always at front and center
- 3:34Speaker 2: of it, or Mark will probably he he can be
- 3:40Speaker 2: funny without him even intending to be funny or trying
- 3:43Speaker 2: to be funny. So yeah, plenty plenty on and Vaughn
- 3:47Speaker 2: is a scurrels type, so yeah, it's good fun and
- 3:51Speaker 2: great Davis, you go back on deck. Each was missed
- 3:54Speaker 2: out on the on the Perth Test. You're just a
- 3:56Speaker 2: bit delayed getting out here. So it feels like the
- 3:59Speaker 2: teams can compleat now we got everyone on deck and
- 4:02Speaker 2: the broadcast is rolling along nicely, which is easy to
- 4:05Speaker 2: do when the entertaining cricket's being played well.
- 4:08Speaker 1: It probably brings me to the first one. Having a
- 4:10Speaker 1: good chat to Kerry last night for Fox Sports talking Points,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and one of the talking points was the day night
- 4:17Speaker 1: tests and Adelaide and it is a magnificent look. It's
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's such a beautiful ground Adelaide Oval and I suppose
- 4:24Speaker 1: on the tram down each morning just listening to some
- 4:26Speaker 1: fans they're a bit perplexed by the fact that it's
- 4:28Speaker 1: going to Brisbane next year. I suppose more from a
- 4:32Speaker 1: more from a well a win lost point of view,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Should we be giving up that advantage with the Ashes
- 4:37Speaker 1: coming around? I've given Australia is unbeaten at Adelaide Oval
- 4:41Speaker 1: in day night in the pinball cricket, but did have
- 4:44Speaker 1: that shock loss to the West Endies earlier this year
- 4:46Speaker 1: in Brisbane. Are we given the old old dart, the
- 4:50Speaker 1: old rival a league up by not playing an Adelaide
- 4:53Speaker 1: next year?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah? I guess statistically it looks like a fortress and
- 4:59Speaker 2: other teams haven't been able to adapt to the conditions,
- 5:03Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, it probably is an advantage that administrators
- 5:11Speaker 2: have maybe not taken into account on. I'm not sure
- 5:14Speaker 2: how it all works and whether that I don't know
- 5:16Speaker 2: whether the team get are so like the leadership group
- 5:21Speaker 2: of the current team, whether they're considered in the decision making.
- 5:25Speaker 2: But it's a remarkable test. It's so much fun, the atmosphere,
- 5:32Speaker 2: the way the city embraces it. I don't think anyone
- 5:35Speaker 2: embraces their Test match as well as Adelaide does. And
- 5:38Speaker 2: that's right across everywhere of the played test create it's
- 5:42Speaker 2: just as you say, the trams walking down, run a
- 5:46Speaker 2: mall out at dinner, whatever the case may be, or
- 5:50Speaker 2: more so in the mornings at breakfast because of the
- 5:53Speaker 2: day and I fixture, everyone's a buzz and it's a
- 5:56Speaker 2: great atmosphere. So I'm sure Brisbane will create a another
- 6:00Speaker 2: hostile environment for the Englishman next year. But it's an
- 6:03Speaker 2: impeccable record in Adelaide.
- 6:08Speaker 1: When we left Perth, there was a lot of questions
- 6:10Speaker 1: about clearly the Australians after that performance, the two hundred
- 6:13Speaker 1: and ninety five run performance. But I remember how to
- 6:15Speaker 1: chat to you the day prior and you made the
- 6:19Speaker 1: point that you were pretty strong on this that if
- 6:22Speaker 1: Australia could survive the initial onslaught from Jasper Boomera, you
- 6:29Speaker 1: saw enough there to think there can be a way
- 6:31Speaker 1: to make some runs that it is possible. I think
- 6:35Speaker 1: clearly Travis Head was exceptional in Perth, but Mitch marsh
- 6:39Speaker 1: and Alex Caerry also got among the runs. It almost
- 6:42Speaker 1: as though it panned out Lavashane and McSweeney on the
- 6:45Speaker 1: Friday night he was so gritty, is what you sort
- 6:49Speaker 1: of spotted in Perth. Come to fruition to an extent
- 6:51Speaker 1: in Adelaide and as a result, that's part of the
- 6:54Speaker 1: reason of perhaps a blueprint that we can look for
- 6:56Speaker 1: going forward for the rest of the border. Gaviscar Trophy.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think coming into the series that the uncertainty
- 7:04Speaker 2: for India was what the support app for Boomra is like.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And Mohammed Siraj Hasha Rana did a really good job
- 7:12Speaker 2: in Perth, they just just weren't quite up to that
- 7:17Speaker 2: same level in Adelaide. I know Siraj ended up with
- 7:21Speaker 2: four wickets and he cannot fault his aggression. Obviously it
- 7:26Speaker 2: flared up a bit, but his intent. So yeah, I
- 7:31Speaker 2: think that still is the glaringly obvious part of that
- 7:36Speaker 2: discussion is that Boomra is at a certain level and
- 7:40Speaker 2: the rest of them aren't quite there, and Australia identified that.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I thought that. I mean, all the headline was about
- 7:46Speaker 2: Travis head but the effort of Martins Flabershane and Nathan
- 7:51Speaker 2: McSweeney in tough conditions on Night one, that's what laid
- 7:55Speaker 2: the foundation for Australia to be able to launch. So
- 7:58Speaker 2: a lot of credit to them.
- 8:01Speaker 1: What did you like about the way they went about
- 8:03Speaker 1: it was Kerry again, somebody to chatching miss today basically
- 8:06Speaker 1: said he just refused to give up his wick at Martiste.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We know he'd been struggling sort of clearly, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: one p fifty I think in the last nineteen innings
- 8:14Speaker 1: or so. I was watching him in the nets on
- 8:16Speaker 1: the Thursday and we're a couple of nicks late in
- 8:18Speaker 1: the piece. But it was an extraordinary hot day. But
- 8:21Speaker 1: he did look like he had that intent back.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, even just in his defense. Simple things. It's
- 8:31Speaker 2: pretty specific, but simple things when you defend, if you're
- 8:34Speaker 2: sort of immediately looking to size up whether there's a
- 8:37Speaker 2: single on offer or not, it's I might be wrong,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but in perfect CNB was just so focused on being
- 8:45Speaker 2: rock solid in defense that you lose the intent in
- 8:49Speaker 2: that action and you might then miss an opportunity to
- 8:52Speaker 2: pinch a quick single and get yourself off strike and
- 8:55Speaker 2: not get bogged down. So everything about he did was
- 9:01Speaker 2: really positive and looked looked really like it had the
- 9:06Speaker 2: right intent. And yeah, he's a determined young man and
- 9:12Speaker 2: he's been as frustrated as anyone about his lack of results,
- 9:15Speaker 2: so I'm sure it felt good. He would have been
- 9:18Speaker 2: extremely disappointed to give up his wicket the way he
- 9:21Speaker 2: did in the end in what turned out to be
- 9:23Speaker 2: a reasonably soft manner. But the fact that he spent
- 9:29Speaker 2: so much time out the crease and started to accumulate
- 9:32Speaker 2: runs and had that really important partnership with McSweeney that
- 9:35Speaker 2: I think has set Marnus back on the right track.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Now it's his job to try and replicate that over
- 9:41Speaker 2: and over.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Again. Disrefriended, checked the pendulum of pressure, so it tends
- 9:47Speaker 1: to swing when a couple make runs. Steve Smith must
- 9:50Speaker 1: have been very disappointed to get out down caught down
- 9:53Speaker 1: the league side. I'm sure he's exceptionally hungry for some
- 9:57Speaker 1: runners at the Gabba, but he this is grammar. He's
- 10:00Speaker 1: played well up before and he did make the ninety
- 10:02Speaker 1: one not out unbeaten against the West Sydney's earlier this year.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Probably unlucky enough to carry the bat in the Australian
- 10:09Speaker 1: winn't given it was such a tight sort of test,
- 10:12Speaker 1: sort of grant he can make some runs and the
- 10:14Speaker 1: other thing is just Usmond and Nathan Bean. I know
- 10:16Speaker 1: it was only a nineteen run chase, but being able
- 10:18Speaker 1: to sort of see it through yesterday in that first session,
- 10:22Speaker 1: late in the first session. It must be a nice
- 10:25Speaker 1: thing to walk off the ground now and you've got
- 10:26Speaker 1: those runs, even though it's only sort of like a
- 10:28Speaker 1: small chase, you're there at the end. Does that sort
- 10:31Speaker 1: of boost some confidence again?
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think the nice feeler than walking off by yourself
- 10:35Speaker 2: having been dismissed. It was those horrible scenarios, everything to
- 10:39Speaker 2: lose nothing in the game. But I think Nathan mcsweeny
- 10:43Speaker 2: hit a square cut that tied the scores, I think,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and I reckon of all the delivery he's faced, of
- 10:52Speaker 2: which there's not many in his short test career, that
- 10:57Speaker 2: probably been his most special men Perhaps it just he
- 11:03Speaker 2: has extended the arms, open the shoulders and just belted it.
- 11:06Speaker 2: It was a pretty ranked delivery, but he absolutely creamed it.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And there was about thirty thousand people in yesterday. So
- 11:13Speaker 2: for him to have that feeling and that that appreciation
- 11:17Speaker 2: of a crowd, that'll help fuel him going forward. There's
- 11:23Speaker 2: no doubt. I bet he's so eager to get out
- 11:26Speaker 2: in the middle again and try to replicate that feeling,
- 11:28Speaker 2: and he'll be well supported up at the Gabba because
- 11:31Speaker 2: that is his home, his true home state and I
- 11:34Speaker 2: think that they'll having discarded him or said he's surplus
- 11:37Speaker 2: to requirements, all of a sudden he'll be a Queenslander again.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So he's playing up there and yeah, that was all
- 11:45Speaker 2: round to a perfect game. Really save Steve Smith. He'll
- 11:48Speaker 2: be frustrated with that, but he'll keep working hard. And
- 11:52Speaker 2: not every player and every team fires all at once.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So the fact that Marcus has now stepped up, that
- 11:58Speaker 2: creates opportunity in the next game for Mitch Marshall or
- 12:02Speaker 2: Steve Smith who missed out in the last game.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Mark Waugh talks a lot about SIB spielding and you've
- 12:10Speaker 1: clearly had a position alongside Samith's standing players in your time.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Just one for later in the series, a little mileson
- 12:17Speaker 1: coming up for Steve Smith. What makes him such a
- 12:21Speaker 1: good subspielder.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I think he stays low, so his technique is really good.
- 12:29Speaker 2: He gets himself in a really nice position so that
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know, just by very subtle little movements and staying
- 12:38Speaker 2: low and keeping at a certain height gets the eye line right.
- 12:42Speaker 2: He does remind me a lot of Mark Wall in
- 12:45Speaker 2: the way that he caught it second slip and just
- 12:50Speaker 2: really soft, soft hands, really relaxed but I think it's
- 12:54Speaker 2: mainly the body position and the body height. You know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: you look at replayers and Steve Smith hands are down
- 13:03Speaker 2: really really low, and he's just in really good position
- 13:05Speaker 2: and he's just got outstanding reflexes. But I just love
- 13:08Speaker 2: the way the ball sounds going into his hand, or
- 13:12Speaker 2: you know, if you do watch them warm up and
- 13:14Speaker 2: do practice, you can just it's just a deep, soft sound.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So he's naturally gifted. But don't underst about how much
- 13:21Speaker 2: they work at it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Again, back to that trend that I was on, and
- 13:26Speaker 1: you know, when we were running down before play on
- 13:29Speaker 1: day two, it's a bit of chat about people wanted
- 13:32Speaker 1: to see Nathan Mix twenty the adoptive local boy sort
- 13:34Speaker 1: of seek around, but it was all about going to
- 13:37Speaker 1: see the man at the moment in Adelaide, Travis Heady.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He's clearly a local local hero here, eighth Man of
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Match, which is quite incredible when you think he's
- 13:47Speaker 1: only played fifty one tests. But Pat Cummins impressed. Last
- 13:50Speaker 1: night we was talking about the way bats and the
- 13:52Speaker 1: way you can take it away. He said, it's not
- 13:53Speaker 1: like it's necessarily a new thing, and he raised you
- 13:56Speaker 1: as the comparison as someone who could take the game
- 13:59Speaker 1: away from the opposition at sort of five six to seven,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and you know, as a left hander, do you see
- 14:04Speaker 1: that sort of similarity between yourself or was it hard
- 14:06Speaker 1: to talk about yourself in that matter? And what do
- 14:08Speaker 1: you like about Trevis? What have you seen with him?
- 14:12Speaker 2: Well? I guess it's just that if that's his eighth
- 14:18Speaker 2: man of the match I gather he's got one every
- 14:19Speaker 2: time he scored one hundred because being his eighth ton.
- 14:22Speaker 2: So that there in itself shows you just how much
- 14:27Speaker 2: of an impact he has. It. It's okay to get
- 14:30Speaker 2: the hundred, but how effective was it in setting up
- 14:34Speaker 2: a victory for your team? Mitchell Starr could very easily
- 14:38Speaker 2: have claim Man the match on is there in that
- 14:40Speaker 2: game particularly he set the tempo right from the very
- 14:42Speaker 2: first ball. But yeah, I think Travis Innings did swing
- 14:47Speaker 2: the game, you know, too much in Australia's advantage. So
- 14:52Speaker 2: that's the sort of impact. That's what you hope to do.
- 14:55Speaker 2: You hope to contribute significantly to team victories and it's
- 14:59Speaker 2: just great fun to watch. It had been a little
- 15:04Speaker 2: bit of a barren spell for him in Test match cricket,
- 15:08Speaker 2: not to the point of being concerned that he's going
- 15:11Speaker 2: to be left out, but a lot of that was
- 15:14Speaker 2: covered up through white ball dynamics. He's a great all
- 15:19Speaker 2: format player. But I think with Travis said, that's just
- 15:22Speaker 2: and the Australian hierarchy, you know this and appreciate this.
- 15:28Speaker 2: You're just going to have to ride the highs and
- 15:29Speaker 2: the lows with him, and when the highs are high,
- 15:32Speaker 2: they have impact and win test matches. So that's you
- 15:35Speaker 2: know which side of the bargain you want to sit
- 15:37Speaker 2: on in that negotiation.
- 15:41Speaker 1: There was a bit of controversy as we've touched on it.
- 15:43Speaker 1: The well Sarres has been touched on widely. We haven't
- 15:45Speaker 1: touched on it about Saraj Sharma rot Chalma in press
- 15:49Speaker 1: last night he spoke about how he thinks he brings
- 15:53Speaker 1: his best when he's actually fired up and motivated. But
- 15:57Speaker 1: I suppose your counterpoint is, does he bring his best
- 16:01Speaker 1: when he's fired up and motivated? Is it possible that
- 16:03Speaker 1: he could get a little distracted and you could see
- 16:06Speaker 1: him a little more wayward when he's that engaged in
- 16:10Speaker 1: such a fis he encounter how do you sort of
- 16:11Speaker 1: assess that with Saraj just in terms of the impact
- 16:14Speaker 1: of you know, he's bowling and what he can do.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's a bowler that likes to be
- 16:20Speaker 2: in the contest and psychologically get himself into a place
- 16:24Speaker 2: where he thinks he's in a bit of a dog fight,
- 16:26Speaker 2: a bit of a scrap with the opposition player. He
- 16:30Speaker 2: carried that sort of role and mantle in Perth and
- 16:33Speaker 2: did it brilliantly without going anywhere near crossing any line
- 16:38Speaker 2: or getting himself under the attention of the match referee.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I think what really centered over the edge. Again, it
- 16:48Speaker 2: wasn't rageous what happened. Let's be honest, it's not. It's
- 16:56Speaker 2: not the best image, but it's not the worst. I
- 17:01Speaker 2: think the fact that he dropped Travis's head on seventy
- 17:04Speaker 2: six and probably every run after that, he knew that
- 17:09Speaker 2: that was the game slipping away from them. So to
- 17:13Speaker 2: then get Travis out on one hundred and forty, I mean,
- 17:16Speaker 2: Sir Arge would know that that Travis had won that battle.
- 17:21Speaker 2: So that was just all I think frustration coming out
- 17:24Speaker 2: more than anything. And Travis said he's disappointed with his
- 17:28Speaker 2: own reaction, But I think it's an emotional game and
- 17:31Speaker 2: the temperatures up I don't really see too much about
- 17:35Speaker 2: any of it. They've copped it a slap from the
- 17:37Speaker 2: match referee, I think, but everyone I'll move on.
- 17:42Speaker 1: With someone who was probably less tested. And Josh Hazerwood
- 17:45Speaker 1: had a quick hit after play last sight and I
- 17:47Speaker 1: think most outlets will. We have some of his words
- 17:50Speaker 1: later on today and he's going to have a bowl
- 17:54Speaker 1: in the nets today. But he said he did have
- 17:56Speaker 1: a joke. He said that Nathan Lyon came across to
- 17:58Speaker 1: him and he said, maybe I might as well leaning
- 18:02Speaker 1: your shoes. I only bother the one over and Josh said,
- 18:03Speaker 1: hang on, good more than you actually had a bowl
- 18:05Speaker 1: on Saturday and actually a bowl on Thursday. My point
- 18:10Speaker 1: in that, in terms of getting to the fact, I
- 18:12Speaker 1: think they only bolt eighty overs thesis through the two winnings.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It's finishing so quickly, it's quite a lot. Gives extensive
- 18:21Speaker 1: turned around to Brisbane, but just with the next three
- 18:26Speaker 1: tests to come, a lightloaded, clearly advantageous. Mitch Mars only
- 18:30Speaker 1: had the bowl to four over, so he wasn't necessarily
- 18:32Speaker 1: stressed with some doubts. But what does it mean for
- 18:35Speaker 1: the rest of the summer when you have for the bowlers.
- 18:37Speaker 1: When you've got that sort of light load and you
- 18:39Speaker 1: have stark bowling like you did, you have Packhummans back
- 18:42Speaker 1: to his best. That looked like in that second innings
- 18:44Speaker 1: he was five for and Scott bowlands the reserve. Have
- 18:48Speaker 1: you ever seen is he the most unlucky bowler in
- 18:50Speaker 1: the world. If Josh Haes would bounces back given, I
- 18:53Speaker 1: think you removed Coolie Gil aswell and Charma four good
- 18:57Speaker 1: scalps at your five wickets, and you might make away
- 19:00Speaker 1: the next time around.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the nature of the beast. So I would
- 19:05Speaker 2: expect if Hazelwood's fit, they'll go back to Hazelwood, particularly
- 19:09Speaker 2: at the Gabba. I think that's conditions that will suit him.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I mean, either one, either way you go, you're going
- 19:16Speaker 2: to get. You know exactly what you to get, and
- 19:18Speaker 2: that's consistency and a batting order that as an opposing
- 19:23Speaker 2: batting order that'll be under threat. So yeah, timing is
- 19:28Speaker 2: unfortunate for Scotty, But I just love the way he
- 19:31Speaker 2: just steps up and it's like you're plugging in a
- 19:34Speaker 2: board machine that's got a setting on and it just
- 19:37Speaker 2: cranks up again to the identical setting. So and I
- 19:40Speaker 2: love the way the crowd embraced him and broadcasters and
- 19:45Speaker 2: he's just a fascinating story. He's such a humble guy
- 19:48Speaker 2: but just just going about his day at work and
- 19:52Speaker 2: he can electrify our nation and fifty thou people in
- 19:55Speaker 2: a grandstand. But as far as the workload, clearly that
- 20:00Speaker 2: works in an Australia's favor. But also the game moved
- 20:05Speaker 2: so quickly, India didn't exactly have to bowl a mountain
- 20:08Speaker 2: of overs either. And you know, looking at the two games,
- 20:12Speaker 2: Australia has bowled more overs, but it's been a nice
- 20:17Speaker 2: spread out now with that extended break between the first
- 20:19Speaker 2: and second, and now an extra few days gives them
- 20:22Speaker 2: near enough to a week to be ready to go.
- 20:25Speaker 2: So that's just going to mean the intensity of battle
- 20:27Speaker 2: is going to be high quality and continue deeper into
- 20:30Speaker 2: the series. By the time we get to Sydney, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 2: the bowlers could still well be feeling feeling reasonably not fresh,
- 20:38Speaker 2: but certainly not running to the ground, So that augurs
- 20:40Speaker 2: well for the series.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Michael said, to be prior to the adlaid test, that
- 20:47Speaker 1: gives surprise that the Aussis didn't bump the Indians a
- 20:51Speaker 1: bit more in Perth. It was pretty notable yesterday that
- 20:55Speaker 1: the aggression seemed to be back in terms of the
- 20:57Speaker 1: attack and Pat was you know, he unleashed a bit.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I think I like the line from Mitchell Stark unleash
- 21:05Speaker 1: the handbreak, Let the handbreak go a little bit in
- 21:07Speaker 1: that first sities. What did you see from him now the.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Perth Cummins he was You could see just through his
- 21:18Speaker 2: celebration that there was a more you know, every wicket
- 21:23Speaker 2: that was taken. He was more aggressive in his celebration,
- 21:28Speaker 2: not in a lose control extent, but you could just
- 21:32Speaker 2: see that clearly they've been stung by a bit of
- 21:36Speaker 2: the criticism around after their performance and they internally would
- 21:41Speaker 2: have been so disappointed with the way they played in Perth.
- 21:44Speaker 2: So it showed you what it means to them and
- 21:47Speaker 2: that they knew that they were back at the level
- 21:50Speaker 2: that they want to play their cricket. So he was outstanding.
- 21:54Speaker 2: He looked like that, you know, if there needed to
- 21:59Speaker 2: be a bit of agreed and oil change after Perth
- 22:01Speaker 2: and the tune up, he was purring by the end
- 22:04Speaker 2: of it. So that was terrific to watch. And they
- 22:08Speaker 2: were just a unit that, you know, the three bowlers,
- 22:10Speaker 2: Nathan Lyne only the went over and Mitch four. Other
- 22:13Speaker 2: than that those the big three start Borron comers were
- 22:16Speaker 2: just hunting as a pack and bould as a unit.
- 22:18Speaker 2: So that was really really fun to watch.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Well, just to finish off, Adam and we had a
- 22:25Speaker 1: chat about a month or so ago for the feature
- 22:29Speaker 1: that we'll run on Fox sports dot com dot Au
- 22:31Speaker 1: and also a video on Chao Sports about the great tests.
- 22:35Speaker 1: We've been doing a series rolling about each time around
- 22:38Speaker 1: and going back to twenty twenty one in Brisbane, Australia
- 22:42Speaker 1: was basically unbeatable in Brisbane prior to that twenty twenty
- 22:46Speaker 1: one series against India where the Indians turned it around.
- 22:50Speaker 1: From Adelaide, what's happened at Brisbane where we've lost that
- 22:54Speaker 1: little bit of edge and what can we expect there now?
- 22:57Speaker 1: What do we expecting next weekend?
- 23:03Speaker 2: I think I don't think anything's happened. Opposition teams have
- 23:07Speaker 2: played well, maybe the pitch hasn't quite been as spicy,
- 23:14Speaker 2: trying to think back to the Indian victory. Yeah that
- 23:19Speaker 2: I mean they had a bunch of newcomers come in
- 23:21Speaker 2: without any fear and who knew what opportunity they had
- 23:25Speaker 2: for them if they if they sort of played conservatively,
- 23:27Speaker 2: so they came out and really attacked and and so
- 23:30Speaker 2: to the West indiesh Shama Joseph, you know a newcomer
- 23:33Speaker 2: to test Creet. He didn't know any history and didn't
- 23:36Speaker 2: have any scars of yesteryear on him. So this Australian
- 23:43Speaker 2: team is a team that generally the opposition if they're
- 23:46Speaker 2: going to beat them, the opposition have to play an
- 23:49Speaker 2: extremely high level and play to their best, so that
- 23:53Speaker 2: that's a sign of respect towards a good team. Australian
- 23:56Speaker 2: create team is a good team. They had a slip
- 23:59Speaker 2: up in per they've rectified that and I think that
- 24:04Speaker 2: extra edge and determination will be there again to try
- 24:08Speaker 2: and quieten down any issue around the Gabba and their
- 24:13Speaker 2: results in Brisbane, I think they'll want to build that
- 24:15Speaker 2: back up again, so I expect their level of competition
- 24:19Speaker 2: will be at the same height.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Well, look, thanks so much for your insights as always, Adam,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I really really appreciate it. It's great for the following listeners.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But also hope that you get a couple of days
- 24:32Speaker 1: back home with the family before you head up to Brisbane.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It's a benefit of a three day test that does
- 24:37Speaker 1: give a bit more of a break. But thanks so
- 24:39Speaker 1: much for joining us as all us.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Thanas you mate. See you in Brisbane.
