Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: This is Carol Platt-Liebel for townhall.com. Barack Obama was back
- 0:06Speaker 1: on the campaign trail in the run-up to the election.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And as he so often does before an adoring crowd,
- 0:11Speaker 1: he indulged his penchant for mockery. Obama ridiculed President Trump's
- 0:15Speaker 1: White House renovations, joking that they looked like Saddam Hussein
- 0:20Speaker 1: opened a cheesecake factory. The crowd roared. But perhaps Obama
- 0:24Speaker 1: revealed more about himself than about the president. To target Trump,
- 0:28Speaker 1: he made regular Americans the butt of the joke, people
- 0:31Speaker 1: who happily patronized the Cheesecake Factory on a night out.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Maybe the relatives of the bitter clingers Obama famously belittled
- 0:39Speaker 1: back in 2008. The remark is revealing of today's Democratic Party,
- 0:45Speaker 1: which once proudly called itself the party of the working person.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Bereft of any new or exciting ideas, too many of
- 0:52Speaker 1: its leaders now seem to offer little more than cultural
- 0:55Speaker 1: condescension and sneering elitism.
