- 1:35Speaker 1: out of Pasadena for a minute. And I feel like
- 1:37Speaker 1: this year, you know, a lot of people have taken
- 1:39Speaker 1: advantage of the pandemic in a good way and not
- 1:42Speaker 1: kind of let that. You know, there's been a lot
- 1:44Speaker 1: of people using it as an excuse as to why
- 1:46Speaker 1: they're slowing down, and Katori Walker has done quite the opposite.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He put out a project called Idols that is extremely dope.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It pretty much pays homage to all of the idols
- 2:00Speaker 1: on the musical side that he has, Kendrick fifty Cent,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Kanye West, j Cole Drake, etc. And I really enjoyed
- 2:11Speaker 1: it so much. I was like, man, I gotta have
- 2:12Speaker 1: this guy come up and just have a good conversation
- 2:14Speaker 1: because I know he's got a dope taste in hip
- 2:15Speaker 1: hop and he could wrap his ass off, which is
- 2:18Speaker 1: why there also be a freestyle dropping from Katory Walker
- 2:21Speaker 1: beginning of next week. But we just had a dope
- 2:24Speaker 1: rap conversational to talk to him about his project, his
- 2:27Speaker 1: come up, but also just a dope hip hop conversation.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So I hope you enjoy it. Katory Walker, make sure

- 3:23Speaker 1: Katory Walker's here, Ladies and Gentlemen, Pasadena's Finest, Pasadiena's fine
- 3:27Speaker 1: as Wow, that's a big title. Who else is from pasadenas? Uh?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Like I said, he got tied to Pasidiena. I don't
- 3:34Speaker 1: know if he was born there, but I know his
- 3:35Speaker 1: family's from there. Who else is in Pasadena? There's a
- 3:38Speaker 1: lot of up and coming arts of Pastena. Do you
- 3:40Speaker 1: know you know Overdose? Yeah? Yeah, I didn't know they
- 3:44Speaker 1: were from Pasadena? Yeah, yeah, So what happened to those guys?
- 3:47Speaker 1: I don't know. I know Ken Jams are doing this thing.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I interviewed them and they were hilarious. Those guys were hilarious.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Shout out to Overdose. But welcome man. You're having a
- 3:57Speaker 1: pretty crazy year. You're project idols. Would you say that
- 4:02Speaker 1: as a body of work, this has been the your
- 4:05Speaker 1: biggest body of work as far as like recognition performance,
- 4:10Speaker 1: because you had it like like like were you ranking
- 4:13Speaker 1: this one at I would say, this is my most
- 4:15Speaker 1: free body of work and this is my most like
- 4:18Speaker 1: honest body of work. This is the one like the
- 4:19Speaker 1: ones that I'm most proud of, you know, like you know,
- 4:22Speaker 1: every other body of work has done different things for me,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but this one is just like, Yo, all right, this
- 4:26Speaker 1: dude can really do his damn thing, you know. Yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 1: For people who are listening who might not have heard
- 4:31Speaker 1: of you, you put a record out called Idols, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: the concept of the album was really to pay homage
- 4:39Speaker 1: to your idols in the music industry. It's an EP.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Each record is dedicated to we got what, Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Kanye,
- 4:51Speaker 1: and then one to yourself, one to myself. Yeah, when
- 4:55Speaker 1: you were making like like it was the idea a
- 4:58Speaker 1: conscious idea when you were record it or did you
- 5:01Speaker 1: like hear the songs be like you know what this
- 5:04Speaker 1: this was like? Like like or did you do? It?
- 5:06Speaker 1: Was everything on purpose? I think half of the project
- 5:09Speaker 1: was on purpose. I think I did. I did one
- 5:12Speaker 1: song and I was actually trying to mimic Cold, like yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I want to do a Cold flow in this one.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And I was a record that I didn't even make
- 5:18Speaker 1: the project actually because I had two Cold records. So
- 5:21Speaker 1: I'm like, Yo, this this is dope. And then I
- 5:22Speaker 1: did a Kendrick record. I'm like, Yo, this is dope.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You know. And then after that, I was just like, Yo,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna put this all together and make this a
- 5:28Speaker 1: body of work, you know, And like the last ones
- 5:30Speaker 1: I did was the fallback record for myself and then
- 5:33Speaker 1: the higher hopes to Kanye won because I was like
- 5:35Speaker 1: the toughest thing to do because Kanye is like a
- 5:37Speaker 1: Swiss army knife. So how do you Yeah, Kanye's he's
- 5:41Speaker 1: my favorite artist. Yeah, he's an artist for real, bro, Yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 1: more than a fan of Jesus Is King. I'm not
- 5:46Speaker 1: gonna lie, but you know, discography wise, nobody can fuck
- 5:49Speaker 1: with you. Yeah. I think I think the thing that
- 5:51Speaker 1: I got from Jesus is King is I felt that
- 5:53Speaker 1: peace listening to it. It wasn't the best lyrical album,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it wasn't the best mixed album at all, but it
- 5:57Speaker 1: felt peaceful. It was great production. There was some great
- 6:00Speaker 1: production on there. Shout out to boost the Beasts. But
- 6:03Speaker 1: but yeah, it's dope because like, not a lot of
- 6:06Speaker 1: people pay homage to fifty as much as they should.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Fifty is a pioneer, bro. Fifty is like his run
- 6:15Speaker 1: was so it was it was. I mean his run
- 6:17Speaker 1: at the top was short, right, It was two albums
- 6:19Speaker 1: long plus the g Unit album and then you know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: the Curtis came out and things kind of were left.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But you know, we're talking Get Rich or Die Trying
- 6:27Speaker 1: is like I feel like, unarguably a top five album
- 6:31Speaker 1: of all time. You could put it higher, but I
- 6:34Speaker 1: feel like if you put it any lower than five,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you're you're fucking lyon or you're a hater. But like,
- 6:38Speaker 1: definitely dope. Like to see someone pay homage to fifty
- 6:41Speaker 1: because I feel like that happens. A lot of people
- 6:43Speaker 1: pay homage this year, like a lot of people. I
- 6:45Speaker 1: think it was what three or four mini men. Oh yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 1: that was a lot. You know, you're right, it's a
- 6:48Speaker 1: good year for fifty twenty one. Savage did it, Pop
- 6:51Speaker 1: Pop Smoke did it. Yeah, and I did it. Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I don't know who else did it, but yeah, so
- 6:54Speaker 1: and it was all that same record, and I was
- 6:56Speaker 1: all Get Rich of Die Trying. So yeah, he's getting
- 6:59Speaker 1: to respect he deserved. Fifty had a video game, bro,
- 7:02Speaker 1: like not a lot of right hey, and it wasn't
- 7:04Speaker 1: a bad game. It's a great game. That shit was solid.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You'd be with young Buck Lloyd Banks, spring up fools
- 7:09Speaker 1: in Iraq, Like what the fuck is going on? Fifty
- 7:12Speaker 1: fifty had a crazy run. That was the first time
- 7:14Speaker 1: I was listening to fifty when I was I think
- 7:16Speaker 1: I think that was what two thousand and two when
- 7:17Speaker 1: that came out two thousand and one, three two. I
- 7:21Speaker 1: think you're right. Two thousand and three. Prob. That was
- 7:24Speaker 1: when I first started writing my own raps because when
- 7:25Speaker 1: I was young, I used to have like my uncles
- 7:27Speaker 1: wrap myself for me. So I was listening to get
- 7:28Speaker 1: rich of I try and trying to pin out some
- 7:30Speaker 1: shit like to mimic fifty. So that's why that album
- 7:34Speaker 1: meant the world to me. And the Unit album was
- 7:36Speaker 1: fired Bag for Mercy was crazy. That was a great album.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Fifty was like I don't think he got enough credit
- 7:42Speaker 1: for his hooks. Bro oh, oh my god. That's why
- 7:44Speaker 1: when they were talking about like the Game in fifty verses,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I was like, like, Game is an a legend. I
- 7:50Speaker 1: love Game, love his music, but like his biggest songs
- 7:53Speaker 1: that he could play have fifty cent on them. Yeah
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, And it's like, how
- 7:58Speaker 1: would that work? They both wrap it together. Yeah, it's
- 8:02Speaker 1: a point for each It's like a point for each
- 8:04Speaker 1: but yeah, and then the artwork. What was dope about
- 8:08Speaker 1: your artwork for your project was it just kind of
- 8:10Speaker 1: incorporated all of that on like in a very tasteful way.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Whose idea was was the artwork? So me and my
- 8:19Speaker 1: creative manager, his name is Cash, we had just been
- 8:21Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to mash everybody's like face
- 8:23Speaker 1: together and just looked at weird. So then I'm like, yo,
- 8:25Speaker 1: let's take a piece of each every each album that
- 8:27Speaker 1: we liked the most from every artist and make it
- 8:30Speaker 1: a thing. And then we just was like, okay, cool,
- 8:32Speaker 1: We're gonna take the border from Kendrick, We're gonna take
- 8:35Speaker 1: the heart from Kanye, We're gonna take the sky from Dragon,
- 8:38Speaker 1: take the crown from Cole, and we're like, what the
- 8:40Speaker 1: fuck we're gonna do for fifty I was like, y'all,
- 8:43Speaker 1: let's just sit on it. He hit me back an
- 8:44Speaker 1: hour later, like check your text, like I've seen the
- 8:46Speaker 1: bullet holes. I'm like, my god, it's done. It's done. Here.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I was sending people that album covered before it even
- 8:51Speaker 1: came out, like yo, just look, you don't even to hear,
- 8:53Speaker 1: you don't even need to hear. Just look at the
- 8:54Speaker 1: album cover bro. When I when me and Head had
- 8:58Speaker 1: linked up with you, it was like almost two years
- 9:00Speaker 1: ago you had you were coming into a situation with Capital.
- 9:07Speaker 1: What's the update or the status of your situation record
- 9:11Speaker 1: label wise? We cut to eyes. I'm now independent, you know, Capital.
- 9:16Speaker 1: We had our run, you know, we did our thing,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and I think for where I wanted to go and
- 9:20Speaker 1: what I'm trying to do, we just wasn't seeing eye
- 9:22Speaker 1: to eye. And then you know, Lord rest is my
- 9:24Speaker 1: a R. I ended up passing away. So it was
- 9:26Speaker 1: like that was just a thing, you know. So I'm
- 9:30Speaker 1: now independent. I want to be able to like freely move,
- 9:33Speaker 1: you know, do what you want to do. Yeah. Man,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I don't think you know, unless it's a bag player.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I don't think labels got that much power these days.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You ain't lying, Yeah, I mean, look, but I was
- 9:41Speaker 1: just crazy because you got you're on the playlist that
- 9:43Speaker 1: you that the label would get you on anyway. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I got on the playlist just off the strength. When
- 9:49Speaker 1: I first dropped, I wasn't on no playlist. And I
- 9:50Speaker 1: think Carl Cherry had heard it and was like, yo,
- 9:53Speaker 1: it's crazy. Yeah. I saw he was like tweeting tweeting
- 9:56Speaker 1: out your lyrics and shit. Yeah, and it's like, yo,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but I don't know you from nowhere, So that was
- 10:01Speaker 1: just an organic thing. Was just organic, bro, because you know,
- 10:04Speaker 1: he's like the gate the gatekeeper that everyone. Yeah, it
- 10:07Speaker 1: was organic bro. And he had hit me like, bro,
- 10:09Speaker 1: this is crazy, this is crazy, And I'm like, yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm glad you tapping in with the music and speaking
- 10:14Speaker 1: of the label, this is something that the label had
- 10:17Speaker 1: had for a year, you know. Well, it's also kind
- 10:20Speaker 1: of like reaffirms the fact that you don't need the
- 10:22Speaker 1: label because really, what else, Like that's why that's what
- 10:25Speaker 1: they're there for, right, is to try to get you
- 10:27Speaker 1: placements or you know, but dog, if you are like
- 10:30Speaker 1: outside of a bag, like you said, yeah, what else,
- 10:34Speaker 1: what else do you need a label for? These days?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Like you're gonna give somebody twenty percent of what you're
- 10:38Speaker 1: doing to press upload. I want to ask you, So
- 10:41Speaker 1: we're going to go through the project and I want
- 10:42Speaker 1: you to tell me your favorite albums from each of
- 10:44Speaker 1: these artists. Well, obviously he's got to be giving your
- 10:46Speaker 1: dad trying for fifty out. Yeah, of course that goes
- 10:48Speaker 1: what I'm saying. By the way, Massacres, super swept on. Yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but what about I mean, you say your favorite it
- 10:54Speaker 1: was eight awaits your favorite album since she used the heart. Nah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: that's just a symbol. It makes sense. Graduation, graduation, It's like, Bro,
- 11:02Speaker 1: that was impeccable. It's a great body of work. It's like,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I don't know, like I think everybody liked to say
- 11:07Speaker 1: my beautiful, dark twisted, but that I'm a Late Registration guy,
- 11:11Speaker 1: also older, older Kanye. Yeah, I love Late Registration. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: graduation was solid, and I just I don't know, man,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I Mike, I'm Mike. I'm not as high as graduation
- 11:22Speaker 1: on graduation as everyone else. I'm not. It's a great look.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Kanye's got the best discography ever. Yeah, He's got a
- 11:29Speaker 1: great discography. I feel like Late Registration and College Dropout
- 11:33Speaker 1: were like brothers sister albums. It kind of sounded I
- 11:35Speaker 1: didn't hear that much evolution in the in the body
- 11:37Speaker 1: of work. They kind of very same. Nah, Late Registration
- 11:40Speaker 1: have John Brian on the production. It was so much
- 11:42Speaker 1: more like that. I feel like they could, they could
- 11:44Speaker 1: be a deluxe album of each other. I disagree, all right,
- 11:49Speaker 1: So let's say the jump from Late Registration and Graduation.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Those are two completely things, different things late Registration. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: feel like the jump from each album is very different.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I don't know, I feel like those two are in
- 12:00Speaker 1: the same ballpark. I feel like my Beautiful, dark, twisted
- 12:02Speaker 1: Fantasy is his best album because you really can't say
- 12:05Speaker 1: ship and then it's really up to you to say
- 12:07Speaker 1: what your favorite is. Yeah, yeah, these are two closest,
- 12:12Speaker 1: they sound sonically closest, they're the They're the closest out
- 12:15Speaker 1: of any two. Yeah. Yeah, Graduation, Yeah, Yeah, I just
- 12:21Speaker 1: got into an argument with somebody and YouTube was killing
- 12:23Speaker 1: me because I said I like Jesus more than Graduation. Yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 1: Jesus Is it's an unpopular king and Jesus, oh you're
- 12:32Speaker 1: fucking crazy, very unpopular opinion, and h I love Jesus,
- 12:38Speaker 1: Jesus Is King. Go somewhere else with that. Yeah, Yay
- 12:44Speaker 1: was slept on though. Yeay was a good album because
- 12:46Speaker 1: I feel like nobody really talking about mental health. That
- 12:47Speaker 1: song ghost Town, Yeah, it's hard to make a better
- 12:50Speaker 1: song than ghost Town. Man, that song was Crazy was
- 12:53Speaker 1: a great record too, Yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure. Yeah, Yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yay was slept and then Kidsy ghost was like, yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I feel like Kitsy Ghosts Sleeper for like one of
- 13:03Speaker 1: the best Kanye projects ever. Yeah, I've never really I know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: no line, no cap. I've never really been a Cutty
- 13:07Speaker 1: fan like that. It's crazy. I've never really been a
- 13:10Speaker 1: Cutty fan. No. I mean that's fair because I'm I'm
- 13:12Speaker 1: a I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Cuddy fan either.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I like dos a is a Cuddy. It's it's it's
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's like sit through a whole project to Cutty's probably
- 13:24Speaker 1: harder for me. Like my favorite cutting project is when
- 13:27Speaker 1: he was like still like really rapping, Like he had
- 13:29Speaker 1: a project called a Kid named Cuddy, a mixtape sponsored
- 13:32Speaker 1: by ten Deep, and then you know, the man on
- 13:35Speaker 1: the moonshit is cool. People love it, Like you can't
- 13:39Speaker 1: tell shit to a Kit Cutty fan because that'd be
- 13:42Speaker 1: like he's the greatest ever. Yeah, I mean you've met
- 13:45Speaker 1: those kinds of people, right, Yeah, bro, I mean yeah,
- 13:48Speaker 1: those Kid Cutty fans are fucking crazy. But I get it,
- 13:52Speaker 1: Like listen, man, this music is a beautiful subjective thing.
- 13:55Speaker 1: And I love Cuddy like you know in doses, I
- 13:57Speaker 1: just you know, I feel you on that. Yeah, he
- 13:59Speaker 1: got his He's at his niche audience for sure, sit
- 14:02Speaker 1: where he sits. But I got my taste and my flavors. Okay,
- 14:06Speaker 1: what about Jake Coles, what's your favorite Cold project? All right,
- 14:09Speaker 1: so my favorite Cold project is definitely Born Center. Okay,
- 14:12Speaker 1: that's a great body of work. If not if not
- 14:14Speaker 1: Born Born Centered in twenty fourteen, but those are really
- 14:17Speaker 1: forests drivers kind of like the consensus. Yeah, but that's
- 14:20Speaker 1: when that's when he got the respect. He that's when
- 14:22Speaker 1: he got disrespect he deserved. But Boring Center came out
- 14:25Speaker 1: the same day as Jesus Bro. But I what I
- 14:27Speaker 1: think don't get enough credit is those truly yours EPs
- 14:30Speaker 1: that he put out. Yeah, my god, those by those
- 14:33Speaker 1: little projects was crazy. I think for just like nostalgic purposes.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I really enjoyed. I still like love Friday Night Lights.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Friday Night Lights is crazy. He was. That's I don't know.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I feel like he was just some super duper duper
- 14:49Speaker 1: and the warm up was crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 1: You know what's crazy is like with Cole like he
- 14:58Speaker 1: bounced back. I was not a fan of his first
- 15:00Speaker 1: the album because there was so much old ship on there,
- 15:02Speaker 1: so much leaked ship, and you know what he did
- 15:05Speaker 1: on that first album. Me and you were just talking
- 15:06Speaker 1: about he was like purposely trying to make radio records. Yeah, diase,
- 15:10Speaker 1: because you remember like he couldn't get an album out,
- 15:14Speaker 1: like they kept strowing his ship out and then like
- 15:16Speaker 1: you know, there was like mister nice watch and work
- 15:18Speaker 1: out and all that shit. It was cool, But like
- 15:20Speaker 1: you said, I think Born Tender was like the first
- 15:22Speaker 1: time he just did what the fuck he wanted. Yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I think where he met the nuts some ship for
- 15:26Speaker 1: the critics and ship for the crowd. I think that's
- 15:28Speaker 1: where he finally. Okay, this is a hard one Kendrick,
- 15:31Speaker 1: because I mean he's three for three if we're talking
- 15:35Speaker 1: major releases. Obviously, if you throw section eighty and there,
- 15:37Speaker 1: he was four for four. But like I mean, Kendrick's
- 15:40Speaker 1: got no misses on his Uh yeah, Kendrick is hard.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna say good kid in mass City
- 15:44Speaker 1: because I felt like he literally was telling my story
- 15:47Speaker 1: bar for bar, Like I'm talking about like hitting the
- 15:51Speaker 1: house and shit like that and friends getting murdered and
- 15:54Speaker 1: all like literally word for word, bar for bar. I
- 15:56Speaker 1: was like I was, I was hurt, like, yo, guy,
- 15:59Speaker 1: why are you and somebody else tell my story like
- 16:01Speaker 1: this man's telling my story, so that that resonated me
- 16:04Speaker 1: with me differently. And then I liked to Pember Butterfly
- 16:09Speaker 1: cosonically there it sounds like nothing I've ever heard. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 1: if you put a gun in my head, I would say,
- 16:13Speaker 1: good Combat City. But to Piper Butterflies right there too,
- 16:16Speaker 1: and also to Pember Butterfly was like, it's age so well.
- 16:21Speaker 1: When it came out, it was just I feel like
- 16:22Speaker 1: it's over everyone's head. Yeah, nobody couldn't up. I don't
- 16:25Speaker 1: think we were ready for that. After after second, I'm
- 16:27Speaker 1: not sec after it was like, Yo, I had to
- 16:31Speaker 1: listen to it a couple of times, and as I
- 16:33Speaker 1: listened to it, I'm like wow, and then damn, it
- 16:35Speaker 1: is just a fucking you know, just press plays hit
- 16:38Speaker 1: after after Yeah, broh is great. All right, last one, Drake,
- 16:44Speaker 1: that's a tough one. I will say as far Ours
- 16:48Speaker 1: albums is either gonna be take Care, probably take care,
- 16:51Speaker 1: take care. I want to say so far Gone because
- 16:54Speaker 1: that project did a lot for me. When I first
- 16:56Speaker 1: heard it, I was like, Yo, this is out of here.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But uh, I say take care. If y'all listen to
- 17:01Speaker 1: take care, Bro. That's hit after hit for sure. I
- 17:03Speaker 1: when the hip hop head say Drake don't have a
- 17:05Speaker 1: classic album, it's like, yo, bro, damn bro, that's me.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I say take Care as the closest thing he has
- 17:12Speaker 1: to say Care not a classic album. Well, I'm not
- 17:14Speaker 1: even saying it's not a classic album because it might
- 17:16Speaker 1: be a classic to me and to you. But I
- 17:18Speaker 1: just don't feel like it's like a consensus classic, like
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know how like you say, like good Kid, Mad City,
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's like an undeniable classic take Care. People argue whether
- 17:28Speaker 1: or not it's a classic, and and so I think
- 17:31Speaker 1: take Care as a classic. Personally for me, it's a classic.
- 17:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of albums I person I just don't
- 17:35Speaker 1: think it's like a like a undeniable, consensus classic album,
- 17:41Speaker 1: like you know when you say Doggy Style, Get Richard
- 17:43Speaker 1: Die Trying, Like these are albums like nobody will ever
- 17:46Speaker 1: say anything different. Take Care is close. But like you said,
- 17:50Speaker 1: there's a lot of people who say Drake doesn't have
- 17:52Speaker 1: a classic album. I think take Care as a classic.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I just don't think it's like it's not a consensus
- 17:59Speaker 1: like yo, undeniable, nobody's gonna say shit to you if
- 18:02Speaker 1: you say, you know, a Quimini from Outcast is a classic, Like,
- 18:07Speaker 1: who's gonna say, like, you know what I'm saying, take care,
- 18:10Speaker 1: there's some, there's some, you know some, there might be
- 18:13Speaker 1: an argument. I had this argument with my manager the
- 18:16Speaker 1: other day, and I was like, go back and play
- 18:18Speaker 1: the album because I think a lot of people don't
- 18:20Speaker 1: realize that all those records were on that same album right, right,
- 18:23Speaker 1: right a lot of times because Drake had Drake has
- 18:25Speaker 1: had a crazy run. He's still in his run, right,
- 18:27Speaker 1: but at that time, he was just literally like he
- 18:29Speaker 1: owned the radio, he owned all the spaces. But Kendrick, yeah, bro,
- 18:33Speaker 1: like yeah, Kendrick had his own record on there. So
- 18:37Speaker 1: when you go back and listen, like how many hit
- 18:39Speaker 1: records he had on there that weren't like even for
- 18:41Speaker 1: a radio that's just like, yo, this is just Drake.
- 18:44Speaker 1: You know, I think you'll you can say that one
- 18:47Speaker 1: is a classic. I don't know what whatever Crew Level
- 18:49Speaker 1: was on there, right, yeah, yeah, crew Love. Yeah, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I don't disagree with you. I think it's a classic,
- 18:55Speaker 1: but I just think that it's not like, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I think I'm just waiting for Drake to drop a
- 19:02Speaker 1: project that like, upon first listen, you're like, oh my god.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that take Care is not that,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but I just mean, like you can't say shit about
- 19:12Speaker 1: Good Kid Mass City. Yeah No, Like if someone told you, like, nah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: that ain't a classic, you know, like like you'd be like,
- 19:18Speaker 1: you're like, shut the fuck up. But a lot of
- 19:21Speaker 1: people whose opinion you would respect and hip hop might
- 19:25Speaker 1: not say to take Care as a class I just
- 19:27Speaker 1: mean it's a classic to me, to you subjectively, we
- 19:30Speaker 1: all have our own classics, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But I just don't think Drake's got that one that
- 19:34Speaker 1: like there's no argument for I think the reason why
- 19:37Speaker 1: I take Care is in a classic because it's not
- 19:39Speaker 1: a themed album. I think the skits on Good Kid
- 19:42Speaker 1: Mass City is what makes it this classic body of work.
- 19:44Speaker 1: The same thing with a Tip of a Butterfly or
- 19:47Speaker 1: even Damn. But it's like it's a cohesive body of
- 19:49Speaker 1: work to where you cannot deny it. And creatively it
- 19:52Speaker 1: was like a lot of just risk taking. Yeah, I
- 19:56Speaker 1: just think, Yeah, I don't know, man, I love Drake.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Nothing was the same my favorite Drake album, But I
- 20:01Speaker 1: do think take Care my book is classic. Yeah, I
- 20:05Speaker 1: used to nothing was the same clouds because that's more known. Really. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 1: the clouds is like when you see those clouds, oh
- 20:12Speaker 1: the clouds on the album cover. Yeah, oh yeah that
- 20:14Speaker 1: was That's not my Drake my favorite Drake project. Just
- 20:16Speaker 1: a great album. Yeah, but it made sense, you know
- 20:18Speaker 1: exactly what I'm talking about looking at those clouds. It
- 20:20Speaker 1: makes sense. So yeah, so what what spark? Now you're independent?
- 20:26Speaker 1: What's next for you? This this project is out, it's
- 20:28Speaker 1: been going crazy, But what's next for you? So? I
- 20:31Speaker 1: got two projects in the works. I got Ignorance Part
- 20:35Speaker 1: two that I'm kind of iffy on putting out because
- 20:37Speaker 1: Ignorant Part one was dedicated to my brother and I
- 20:39Speaker 1: don't want to step on his toes, you know, uh,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and like kind of try to recreate some energy when
- 20:44Speaker 1: it was like really organic. And then I'm working on
- 20:47Speaker 1: on my debut even though nobody's looking for it. I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: like literally just putting songs away. So you're like official album,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like they are official, like more than seven tracks. I've
- 20:57Speaker 1: never put out a eping that's more than seven tracks.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I want to really have something where like it's undeniable
- 21:02Speaker 1: from top to bottom. So I'm sitting on fifty sixty records,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like every artist you know, sitting on a whole lot
- 21:08Speaker 1: of records and just wait for the right time to
- 21:09Speaker 1: put it out because I what's the right time? Though
- 21:12Speaker 1: there is no right time, but like, how do you
- 21:14Speaker 1: determine that. I hate when people say that I'm waiting
- 21:16Speaker 1: for the right time to put something, but I don't know.
- 21:19Speaker 1: It was the right to put out idols when I
- 21:21Speaker 1: put it out. But a lot of people using the
- 21:23Speaker 1: pandemic on why they're not putting music. I'm like, you're
- 21:25Speaker 1: fucking tripping. People are at home with nothing to do
- 21:28Speaker 1: and they're listening to music. Yeah. I just feel like
- 21:31Speaker 1: my thing is I always want to put out a
- 21:32Speaker 1: body of work that is cohesive. Every one of my
- 21:35Speaker 1: body of works was themed, every single one of them.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So I don't want to just put out a body
- 21:39Speaker 1: of work just like oh, this is music here, you
- 21:40Speaker 1: can have it. I might put out a single, but
- 21:43Speaker 1: I don't want to just put out something that it's
- 21:44Speaker 1: not like, Oh, I understand what you're trying to do here,
- 21:46Speaker 1: because I feel like that's the biggest thing for me
- 21:49Speaker 1: as an artist, Like Yo, he's telling stories with everything
- 21:52Speaker 1: he does, and everybody at work meant something to him.
- 21:57Speaker 1: You talked about obviously the capital deal came into play
- 22:03Speaker 1: and a lot of people are trying to sign you.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Can you talk about like you said you were eating
- 22:09Speaker 1: dinner and someone called you. Yeah, so I was eating dinner,
- 22:12Speaker 1: well Thanksgiving dinner. It was like three years ago. This
- 22:15Speaker 1: is years ago. Yeah, I had dropped. This is when
- 22:19Speaker 1: I had dropped a many of your time, and Top
- 22:20Speaker 1: caused me and he didn't He said, all I'm gonna
- 22:23Speaker 1: hit you, but I didn't think he was gonna hit
- 22:24Speaker 1: me on Thanksgiving. So I'm like, who is this? He's like,
- 22:26Speaker 1: this is Top. I'm like what, Like, you know what
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm saying? It was Top. So that that kind of
- 22:30Speaker 1: like solidified what I was really really doing at that time.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Where you already did you already make the decision to uh?
- 22:35Speaker 1: I was already signed the Capital at the time, but
- 22:37Speaker 1: I had already fulfilled my deal. But I still need
- 22:38Speaker 1: to give him another project because I wanted to put
- 22:40Speaker 1: the project out. So long story short, took the meeting
- 22:43Speaker 1: with Top. He was fucking with what I was doing,
- 22:45Speaker 1: but then I still had to fulfill the rest of
- 22:47Speaker 1: my duties. To Capital, and I you know, I love
- 22:49Speaker 1: top Dog, Like I think that's one of those labels
- 22:51Speaker 1: that represent artistic in tech, what you're doing real Like, yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 1: them Dreamville. I don't know what they're finna do with
- 22:57Speaker 1: pg lang, but that might be a pocket. But yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I really love what the guys over there that top
- 23:02Speaker 1: Dog is doing. And like, like I said, I ended
- 23:04Speaker 1: up staying at Capitol, you know, for filling the rest
- 23:06Speaker 1: of my deal. But yeah, I would love to work
- 23:08Speaker 1: with top of like he understands what I'm trying to say.
- 23:11Speaker 1: So the video you shot that went viral, It's there's
- 23:16Speaker 1: been a lot of videos that have been similar to
- 23:18Speaker 1: that video since it came out. Yeah. Yeah, I remember
- 23:21Speaker 1: specifically when the Baby put out his video. What song
- 23:25Speaker 1: was it? The Baby? He did it for the Rock
- 23:28Speaker 1: the Rockstar remix ye ye, yep, when he did a
- 23:30Speaker 1: Black Lives Matter remix Yeah, and very similar almost to
- 23:37Speaker 1: the t Yeah. How did you feel when you saw that?
- 23:43Speaker 1: I think now because I think the Baby was like
- 23:45Speaker 1: the last person that's done it right. Well yeah, because
- 23:48Speaker 1: there was some other artists similar. Yeah, but uh, long
- 23:53Speaker 1: story short, the Baby did and I kind of felt like, yo,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I'm here to inspire. I can't be mad. And I
- 24:00Speaker 1: inspired somebody, you know. And I may not even have
- 24:02Speaker 1: inspired the baby. I may have inspired his director or
- 24:05Speaker 1: his team. Yeah, we were talking about that. I was like,
- 24:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure the baby like saw that and was like,
- 24:09Speaker 1: let's do that. It might have been a subconscious effort
- 24:11Speaker 1: on his director whoever his videographer was, because it was
- 24:15Speaker 1: it was like damn yeah. But then again, I put
- 24:17Speaker 1: out that video back in twenty seventeen. Who's to say
- 24:19Speaker 1: that his director had that in his subconscious and didn't
- 24:22Speaker 1: even remember like how to exactly. Yeah, you know, so
- 24:25Speaker 1: like like I said, like he was telling the story.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And if if your director is getting inspired to tell
- 24:31Speaker 1: a story something similar to what I did, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: push pushing the same message. I was gonna say, like,
- 24:36Speaker 1: did you any sort of communication with him or his
- 24:40Speaker 1: camp at all about it? Now? I had tweeted. I
- 24:43Speaker 1: was like, Yo, this looks very familiar, and I was it.
- 24:45Speaker 1: That tweet kind of went up, got a bunch of
- 24:47Speaker 1: like replies and retweets and shit like that. So that
- 24:50Speaker 1: was it. But I didn't I didn't reach out to nobody.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It ain't It's not my business, you know, what I'm saying.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I got I got my bag, I got my deal
- 24:57Speaker 1: off that video. So it's like, if you want to
- 24:59Speaker 1: eat too, go ahead. You know, I'm still eating off
- 25:01Speaker 1: that song. So it's like, yeah, when you when your
- 25:03Speaker 1: videos are so like conceptually, so dope, like is it?
- 25:08Speaker 1: It's like, is it hard to like out like like
- 25:11Speaker 1: when you shoot videos like that that are so conceptually
- 25:17Speaker 1: at a high level, Like can it be frustrating to
- 25:21Speaker 1: just shoot a regular video or just like everything, Like
- 25:23Speaker 1: I feel like you like you gotta I don't know,
- 25:26Speaker 1: I'll do yourself, but like that shit, you know you
- 25:29Speaker 1: got some crazy visuals. Bro. I think I write. I
- 25:32Speaker 1: write songs visually, so I see the video first video
- 25:36Speaker 1: as I'm writing while you're writing. Literally, like when I
- 25:39Speaker 1: just was doing a freestyle, I have my eyes closed.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I literally literally visually see what I'm saying. So a
- 25:44Speaker 1: lot of times it's not hard to come up with
- 25:45Speaker 1: these conceptual videos. It's hard to execute them sometimes because
- 25:48Speaker 1: sometimes the idea is so grand and now, being independent,
- 25:51Speaker 1: you ain't got capital that spend fifty thousand on the video,
- 25:54Speaker 1: you know, like you got to come out of pocket.
- 25:56Speaker 1: So yeah, I literally visually write every song, every video.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I don't know if a lot of people know, but like,
- 26:02Speaker 1: like I directed and wrote those treatments for all of it.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But he said, you shot that video you yourself? Right? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, literally,
- 26:09Speaker 1: that shit's crazy on a on a camp, I just
- 26:12Speaker 1: put the camera on the floor. That was kool aid
- 26:14Speaker 1: and corn starch, the blood. Yeah, but I spent seven
- 26:18Speaker 1: dollars on that video and that video changed my life.
- 26:20Speaker 1: That's fucking crazy. Artists out there, don't make no fucking
- 26:23Speaker 1: excuses about what you should be doing, because you can
- 26:26Speaker 1: make this shit happen. They're cheap. I want I wanted
- 26:29Speaker 1: to ask you. Obviously we're at the end of the year,
- 26:31Speaker 1: what's your who's your like, what's your favorite album of
- 26:34Speaker 1: the year. We're just talking about the Grammy nominations, but
- 26:36Speaker 1: what's your personal top album in twenty twenty? Top album
- 26:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty is definitely No Love Lost by Blast That's fair.
- 26:42Speaker 1: That is that an EP? That's I don't know what
- 26:44Speaker 1: that is, but it's EP. But no, we were just
- 26:47Speaker 1: talking about Blasting there. Yeah yeah, yeah, so about that.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And by the way, the way he shopped the videos,
- 26:52Speaker 1: yeah crazy. So the Homie City James directed that and
- 26:56Speaker 1: he's five. You go tapping with City James and look
- 26:58Speaker 1: at his videos. My god, he's really like he's vague.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah man, yeah, so yeah, so yeah, all right. So
- 27:06Speaker 1: if we want to say blast album is not an album,
- 27:08Speaker 1: so it's called that an EP EP. He's got the
- 27:11Speaker 1: Deluxe coming out, which will kind of fill it out
- 27:13Speaker 1: to be down because I'm drawing a blank here. Let
- 27:16Speaker 1: me see who while you're While you're looking that up,
- 27:18Speaker 1: let's go through the best hip hop album nominees and
- 27:21Speaker 1: who you think will win. We got Alfredo from Freddy
- 27:25Speaker 1: Gibbs and Alchemist. We got Royce's album d Smoke, Black Habits,
- 27:31Speaker 1: NAS's King Disease, and Jay Electronica. I think either Freddy
- 27:40Speaker 1: or NAS is gonna win. They might give it Knas
- 27:42Speaker 1: might be the clear winner. You know what's funny is
- 27:44Speaker 1: I said the same thing. I'm like, Freddy should win,
- 27:45Speaker 1: but they might just give it to NABS because Nas
- 27:47Speaker 1: never had a Grammy out of respect for the culture.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So I would say one of the biggest albums and
- 27:52Speaker 1: hip we say that hip hop no, no, your favorite,
- 27:55Speaker 1: like album of the year, I would say, because I
- 27:59Speaker 1: don't really be listening, I was like that but if
- 28:01Speaker 1: I'm say albums that I listen to, I would say
- 28:03Speaker 1: Pop Smoke, that sh At the Stars. That was a
- 28:05Speaker 1: great That's a great album for me. It's a great
- 28:08Speaker 1: album that I listened to because I've been listening to
- 28:10Speaker 1: like a lot of EPs and like that, like you
- 28:13Speaker 1: do you funk with ke Bell? You know of course
- 28:16Speaker 1: his little I think it was after Hours. Yeah, he's dope,
- 28:19Speaker 1: He's dope. That was great. He's going to put a
- 28:20Speaker 1: shirt on them that that guy never put a shirt
- 28:25Speaker 1: on my guy. But uh yeah, so yeah, I think
- 28:28Speaker 1: those those projects really are something that I listened to
- 28:32Speaker 1: a lot, like on repeat, especially like I was saying,
- 28:34Speaker 1: like that Blast project, I'm glad you said his name
- 28:36Speaker 1: because I didn't know if it was Ion or because
- 28:39Speaker 1: because it's with the X is in his name, So
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'm glad. I'm glad now I know how to say
- 28:43Speaker 1: his name. I don't know if he's trying to do
- 28:45Speaker 1: like you know, how a Blast got like the X
- 28:46Speaker 1: in his Maybe that's why he's doing it, Like that
- 28:48Speaker 1: X kind of looks like a K. I don't know.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know why he did that.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I had to ask him, like yo, just because I
- 28:53Speaker 1: went to high school him, he went to We went
- 28:55Speaker 1: the same high school. His project is dope though a
- 28:57Speaker 1: lot of he look, there's like a lot of dope
- 28:59Speaker 1: ship coming out of l A on the R and
- 29:01Speaker 1: B side. Yeah, bro l a kind of kind of
- 29:03Speaker 1: doing that damn thing. Bro real definitely, No, I agree.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I think Blast is uh you know, if we're talking
- 29:10Speaker 1: about just bodies of work, EPs albums, it's up there man. Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And I didn't know. I was looking at the credits
- 29:17Speaker 1: the other day. Bro, he's producing all that himself. Yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 1: I was. He was up here for the podcast and
- 29:21Speaker 1: he's like Russ. He records himself, mixes and produces and
- 29:25Speaker 1: masters and like he does everything himself. Yeah it's crazy. Yeah,
- 29:28Speaker 1: I record, mixed and master all my stuff, but I
- 29:31Speaker 1: don't produce the beats like that making his own level,
- 29:34Speaker 1: Like we start producing your ship. Well, you know the
- 29:35Speaker 1: Kaaling record, the pull Up and get right with It,
- 29:39Speaker 1: he produced that. Wow so that that he that's his
- 29:41Speaker 1: beat over that Kaling record. Yeah, it's crazy, super crazy.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Shout out to Blast man. Yeah you got music with Blast. Yeah,
- 29:48Speaker 1: we gotta we got like a song we hit that.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I don't know, but hit boy. Yeah, Hip Hip produced
- 29:53Speaker 1: it me him and hit. It sounds like a big
- 29:55Speaker 1: move man, as like a big move for the city.
- 29:57Speaker 1: It hit clear, that ship hit clear that shit. So
- 30:01Speaker 1: that'd be some dope shit. That'd be some dope shit.
- 30:02Speaker 1: That's the record we did like a year maybe year
- 30:04Speaker 1: and a half ago. Yeah, and that's before you know,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Blast was Blast. Yeah, he had literally just put up
- 30:10Speaker 1: off the strength, Like, yo, brother, fuck with your shit,
- 30:12Speaker 1: let's work. You know what I'm saying. I ain't even
- 30:13Speaker 1: tapped in with him. I'm like, bro fly, young man,
- 30:16Speaker 1: do your thing. You know. I don't want to be
- 30:17Speaker 1: the guy that, like, yo, remember this this record we got,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to do that. Bro Fly,
- 30:21Speaker 1: spread your wings my guy, because I'm rooting for you
- 30:24Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah. That pop Smoke album though. They did
- 30:26Speaker 1: a great job with him, man, I thought that, you know,
- 30:28Speaker 1: it's hard to pull off an album when someone's not
- 30:30Speaker 1: here anymore, especially you're kind of knowing that probably a
- 30:33Speaker 1: lot of those songs weren't finished. They did a masterful job. Yeah, yeah, Yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 1: I wondered. I was wondering how they pulled off certain things,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and I don't know how much, how much fifty. He
- 30:43Speaker 1: had his hands in it, but that was it was
- 30:44Speaker 1: It was dope because he had a couple of great
- 30:46Speaker 1: records on there. Oh yeah, solid body of your work. Yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 1: shout out to pop Smoke. So we don't have any
- 30:53Speaker 1: sort of So you're you're thinking about dropping uh well,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you're putting records in site for your album? Yeah, thinking
- 30:58Speaker 1: about dropping a follow up EP? Yeah next year, early
- 31:02Speaker 1: next year. Yeah, I'm not gonna do it this year
- 31:04Speaker 1: if I'm not, if I'm me, shit, we got three
- 31:06Speaker 1: weeks left. Yeah right, so yeah, so yeah, either most
- 31:13Speaker 1: likely early next year January February probably another EP and
- 31:16Speaker 1: then begin working towards the album. But my manager was
- 31:20Speaker 1: telling them, like, bro, just keep dropping EPs, just keep
- 31:22Speaker 1: dropping a little small by sized bodies of work until
- 31:24Speaker 1: people are begging for an album and then just doing
- 31:26Speaker 1: ye man, run up that catalog. Yeah bro, that's what Yeah, Bro,
- 31:29Speaker 1: that's just you know, getting you know, my first independent
- 31:32Speaker 1: Spotify check. I'm like, I'm gonna run up this catalog.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Just keep going because yeah, because now now you got
- 31:36Speaker 1: the you got the listeners, you got the monthly listeners
- 31:38Speaker 1: that are tapped in, they'll get that release radar, you know, Yeah,
- 31:41Speaker 1: it's kind of crazy that we're talking out loud about this,
- 31:43Speaker 1: Like it's like something you got to think about, Like, Okay,
- 31:46Speaker 1: I got people on Spotify listening, so I gotta keep
- 31:49Speaker 1: on feeding them. Yeah, so it hits their algorithm and
- 31:52Speaker 1: their algorithmic playlist, their daily mixes and all that shit. Yeah. Man,
- 31:56Speaker 1: but it's just the world we're in, man. That's yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 1: that's where we're at. And that's I realized, like you can't,
- 32:01Speaker 1: especially as an independent artists. You can't wait too long.
- 32:03Speaker 1: You cannot wait too long. Too long, but you also
- 32:06Speaker 1: can't overdo it, you know. So I'm like, okay, cool,
- 32:08Speaker 1: I don't know who said it, Like you should kind
- 32:11Speaker 1: of try to be on a three to four month
- 32:13Speaker 1: when you independent, if you're doing EPs, three to four
- 32:14Speaker 1: month radius to where it's like drop something with a
- 32:17Speaker 1: couple of months, d drop something, because if you keep
- 32:18Speaker 1: smacking people over the head every thirty days, they're gonna
- 32:21Speaker 1: start listening. That's too much unless you're doing singles, yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 1: but before projects definitely. I don't know if I'm like
- 32:26Speaker 1: a single artist at this point, just like like I
- 32:30Speaker 1: like bodies of work towards like, oh I see what
- 32:31Speaker 1: he trying to do not for sure, Yeah, yeah, I
- 32:33Speaker 1: mean I get it and doing the EP thing smart, Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 1: I like, I actually like it that way. I feel
- 32:37Speaker 1: like giving people's bite sized amounts of content, it's it's
- 32:41Speaker 1: the way to go. I don't I get I see
- 32:43Speaker 1: an album with nineteen songs on it get scared, like
- 32:46Speaker 1: that's too much. Yeah, man, it's too much for me.
- 32:49Speaker 1: It's a lot. There's no bros. There's like three people
- 32:52Speaker 1: in the game that I will listen to their whole album. Well,
- 32:55Speaker 1: I mean, especially if it's nineteen songs. Yeah, I think
- 32:58Speaker 1: Dot can drop a he could drop a forty song
- 33:01Speaker 1: album and I'm in whatever Kendrick wants to just whatever, Like, yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I think that and Cold do you think of Drake
- 33:08Speaker 1: Dropp a forty song album? You listen to all of it?
- 33:10Speaker 1: I didn't listen to all the Scorpion answer your question. So,
- 33:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think I might have listened to all
- 33:15Speaker 1: of it, but it was like in pieces because it
- 33:17Speaker 1: was like a technically a double double album double was
- 33:19Speaker 1: half all. I like the R and B side to
- 33:21Speaker 1: be honest a lot on the Scorpion, but now like Drake,
- 33:26Speaker 1: it took me a while, Like if Kendrick drops a
- 33:28Speaker 1: forty song album, I'm gonna smoke some weeds, sit in
- 33:31Speaker 1: my man cave fucking and just zone out for two hours.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Two hours, yeah, and just be like, Yo, there's no
- 33:38Speaker 1: way Kendrick's gonna drop a forty song album and it
- 33:41Speaker 1: not be a masterpiece. Drake drop a forty song album,
- 33:44Speaker 1: You're like, well, you know that Chris Brown did? That?
- 33:48Speaker 1: Was it last year? Christ thirty six? Albums thirty six?
- 33:51Speaker 1: It was some crazy some of the Red Moon or
- 33:53Speaker 1: something like that? Was man. I was like, Yo, damn Breezy,
- 33:58Speaker 1: I'll fuck with you, bro, But I'm I mean, I
- 34:01Speaker 1: got ship to do, I got life to live. The
- 34:05Speaker 1: songs I need to hear will make their way to me. Yeah, Bro,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like I was just talking
- 34:10Speaker 1: about that. That Chris Brown record is one of my
- 34:12Speaker 1: favorite records right now though him a young thug. Oh yeah,
- 34:15Speaker 1: I listened to that record every day. Again, that's a
- 34:17Speaker 1: radio record I don't typically Yeah, crazy, great beautiful song.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, bro, So shout to Chris Brown, man, Yeah. Many.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Let me ask you something is Chris Brown? Is he
- 34:31Speaker 1: the most talented artist we've ever seen? I think he
- 34:33Speaker 1: would be I think unfortunately that incident with him Rihanna. No, No,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about is he
- 34:39Speaker 1: the most talented artist. I'm saying yes. I feel like
- 34:41Speaker 1: he would be god level had he not done some
- 34:43Speaker 1: stuff in his adolescence. I think he's god level. You
- 34:46Speaker 1: think he is. I don't think he gets to shine
- 34:47Speaker 1: and he deserves. But I'm not talking about the shine
- 34:49Speaker 1: or the record. I'm talking about talent. Yeah, god level. Yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I've been extremely critical of Chris Brown and his personal
- 34:57Speaker 1: decisions outside of the Rihanna thing. Yeah, but Jesus Christ's
- 35:03Speaker 1: he's out of this world. I'm like, how do you
- 35:04Speaker 1: still are you making fifty song projects? Bro? He's an
- 35:08Speaker 1: alien man and he can dance. He can paint a
- 35:11Speaker 1: mural on a Ferrari Yeah, he can sing a jump
- 35:14Speaker 1: shot yeah, solid on the Celebrity Basketball game. Yeah he was.
- 35:19Speaker 1: He was really mixing people. He could act. Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I think about like I said, I hope we give
- 35:26Speaker 1: that man his roses, bro, because he's really a great
- 35:29Speaker 1: yeah man, And I'm being very critical, but I'm like, yo, like,
- 35:32Speaker 1: I don't know if there's been another more talented human
- 35:34Speaker 1: being that we've seen in the public eye besides Chris Brown.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Now you might argue that there's people who's made better music,
- 35:39Speaker 1: but just pure talent. Chris Brown has got people. Chris
- 35:43Speaker 1: Brown makes phenomenal music. Who's really making better music than
- 35:46Speaker 1: Christ Down? I mean, you know, I think if I
- 35:48Speaker 1: mean not anymore, I was gonna say Kanye, but not anymore,
- 35:52Speaker 1: But Jesus Jesus King is it could turn. I don't
- 35:56Speaker 1: know all this fucking that non No song Kanye Drop
- 35:59Speaker 1: is the worst fucking Kanye song he's ever released besides
- 36:02Speaker 1: the The Scoop shit. But that was he was trolling
- 36:06Speaker 1: and that beat was fire on the poop the Scoop shit.
- 36:08Speaker 1: That beat was crazy what I wanted to I really
- 36:10Speaker 1: would have loved to have heard what Drake did on
- 36:12Speaker 1: that because that was Drake's beat. Yeah, that's what Drake
- 36:15Speaker 1: was saying, like Kanye gave it to him, did that
- 36:16Speaker 1: shit on top of it. But yeah, I just hope
- 36:19Speaker 1: Kanye pulls his head out the ground and just starts
- 36:21Speaker 1: getting back. I don't know, man, I don't know how
- 36:23Speaker 1: if he can be as a greade of an artist
- 36:24Speaker 1: as we would want him to be while he's like
- 36:27Speaker 1: a hardcore Christian. I think I know one of the
- 36:31Speaker 1: producers that's over there, Damn Joints, and he's like, really
- 36:34Speaker 1: out of this Them Joints produced the Not on Us. Yeah,
- 36:36Speaker 1: great beat, Yeah bro. So I know that because I've
- 36:39Speaker 1: written records with him and he's produced a couple records
- 36:42Speaker 1: for me. He's artistic integrity. So I'm pretty sure if
- 36:44Speaker 1: he's rubbing shoulders with Kanye, I'm pretty sure in the
- 36:48Speaker 1: next project. I have faith in this next body of while.
- 36:50Speaker 1: So I just feel like people are just like, I'm
- 36:52Speaker 1: just happy to be in the room with Kanye. Let
- 36:54Speaker 1: him do whatever bullshit he wants to do, and we're
- 36:56Speaker 1: just here for it because he's yay and we grew
- 36:58Speaker 1: up loving him. And yeah, he's my favorite artist ever. Yeah,
- 37:02Speaker 1: like number one. I mean he's not my favorite MC ever,
- 37:05Speaker 1: But like artists wise, I don't feel like anyone's ever
- 37:07Speaker 1: made better music and hip hop than Kanye West. Yeah. Artistry, yeah,
- 37:10Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think nobody. Yeah, I think if
- 37:14Speaker 1: I think, if Kendrick gives us something completely different on
- 37:17Speaker 1: his next project, this is what I always say to people, right,
- 37:21Speaker 1: So everyone puts Biggie in there, and I put Biggie
- 37:26Speaker 1: in my top ten. Bigg's one of my favorite rappers ever.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But Biggie is consistently putting people's top five, top three,
- 37:34Speaker 1: top two, whatever off of two albums two Right two classics,
- 37:39Speaker 1: Life After Death, Ready to Die, incredible bodies of work,
- 37:43Speaker 1: undisputable classic albums. But Kendrick he's dropped. I mean, I
- 37:51Speaker 1: can can consider section eighty at classic. But if we
- 37:53Speaker 1: with discard section eighty because some people it wasn't a mixtape.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You couldn't download it for free, you had to buy
- 37:57Speaker 1: it on iTunes. But if you just take his three
- 38:01Speaker 1: albums that came out through Interscope untitled A side, like,
- 38:06Speaker 1: you gotta put Kendrick, He's like four or five all
- 38:09Speaker 1: time in my book, man, Like, I don't see how
- 38:11Speaker 1: you could, like, like when you drop music that's on
- 38:16Speaker 1: that level three times in a row, four times in
- 38:19Speaker 1: a row to me, you know, because I think section
- 38:20Speaker 1: eighty's amazing, Like, bro, what are we talking about? I
- 38:24Speaker 1: think it's just because he's young and he's here right now.
- 38:27Speaker 1: That's what it is. That's what it is. And Michael's thinking, oh,
- 38:29Speaker 1: maybe it's recency bias. Like no, Kendrick is fucking that dude, Bro,
- 38:36Speaker 1: and nobody wants to smoke with Kadot Who would? Who would?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Who would do that? This man has been throwing subliminal
- 38:42Speaker 1: shots at Drake and Bro. Who wants smoke with Kendrick?
- 38:47Speaker 1: Nobody will say his name because they will get destroyed.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Like the Control Verse was such a moment man shout
- 38:54Speaker 1: out to Kendrick man top five all time top Yeah.
- 38:59Speaker 1: I think I think people want to deny that because,
- 39:01Speaker 1: like I said, because he's here and a lot of
- 39:03Speaker 1: times people, you know, you pass away and you just
- 39:06Speaker 1: become this super idol. Lord forbid. If Kendrick passed away,
- 39:11Speaker 1: everyone would be like, Yo, he's top three all time,
- 39:14Speaker 1: you know, and it's whacked that that's the type of
- 39:16Speaker 1: shit that has to happen. Yeah, I think Kendrick is
- 39:19Speaker 1: on another level because and I think that's the difference
- 39:21Speaker 1: between Cole and Kendrick is Kendrick knows how to make
- 39:24Speaker 1: hit records and keep him conscious. Like dam was all
- 39:26Speaker 1: hit records, Bro, and they're all conscious records. You can't
- 39:30Speaker 1: really me being a conscious artist. I know the difficulty
- 39:33Speaker 1: of having some shit that not, but it's like I'm
- 39:35Speaker 1: really telling you something, you know that's that's really difficult,
- 39:39Speaker 1: you know. So I think if if we want to
- 39:42Speaker 1: have that conversation, the top five, come on, Man, I
- 39:44Speaker 1: don't know who, Like, I don't know who. You can
- 39:46Speaker 1: find four other like who? Yeah, I feel like there's like,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know, probably a six or seven rapper arrange that
- 39:53Speaker 1: you could kind of rearrange into, like who's the top five? Ever?
- 39:55Speaker 1: But like, I feel like Kendrick's in that conversation. It's close.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I want to ask you a question because I'll always
- 40:00Speaker 1: ask people this question and nobody can ever answer it.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Or let's just say Kendrick, Cole and Drake are at
- 40:06Speaker 1: the top of the game. Who's in that space to
- 40:08Speaker 1: even be close to it? That's not bound level. It's
- 40:11Speaker 1: like a long three mile gap in between that. Who
- 40:15Speaker 1: is even a mout up in that gap? You know?
- 40:18Speaker 1: What's interesting is I don't think we put Kanye in
- 40:23Speaker 1: that conversation because I don't think people think I think
- 40:27Speaker 1: Kanye has to be the fourth guy there, just consistency
- 40:31Speaker 1: over the last twelve, fifteen years whatever. But I also
- 40:34Speaker 1: don't think Kanye like lyrically is on that level. But yeah,
- 40:40Speaker 1: I don't know, man, the first name that comes to
- 40:42Speaker 1: mind and I would be like a Big Sean maybe
- 40:45Speaker 1: or like yeah, but but it's afar, it's far. If
- 40:51Speaker 1: Kendrick Cole and Drake are tense, what would Big Sean
- 40:54Speaker 1: be a six? No disrespect right right? Right, Well, that's
- 40:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying, like you seven, eight and nine that
- 40:59Speaker 1: you know it's it would have to yeah, Like I'm
- 41:02Speaker 1: just trying to think. So I'm thinking Big Sean is
- 41:05Speaker 1: kind of that next tier and then like, yeah, I
- 41:10Speaker 1: don't know, man, who else is not just just overall greatness.
- 41:18Speaker 1: That's that's right now, that's relevant right now. Of course
- 41:20Speaker 1: you can throw Dre I mean not Dre Jay in there,
- 41:23Speaker 1: jay Z in there, but he's already he's already past
- 41:26Speaker 1: the generation. Yeah, I'm thinking right now, And and I
- 41:29Speaker 1: think you would have you would have to put Kanye
- 41:32Speaker 1: in that top tier. But like, I don't think relevance
- 41:35Speaker 1: as an artist at the moment is not what we're
- 41:37Speaker 1: looking at ya for at the moment. I think we're
- 41:39Speaker 1: looking at him for things he's done already. Yeah, So
- 41:42Speaker 1: I would just say that those are the three and
- 41:46Speaker 1: I'm not sure where you know, if we're talking like impact,
- 41:52Speaker 1: commercial success, artistic integrity, Like yeah, those those are the
- 41:56Speaker 1: three and and and and anything below that is very
- 42:00Speaker 1: far away, very very very very It's a gigantic gap. Yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I mean there's independent artists that are super like I think,
- 42:08Speaker 1: you know, I think Freddy Gibbs has had a great
- 42:11Speaker 1: run recently, you know, I think you can look at Yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 1: but like we're talking Cole Kendrick Drake for ten years.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I mean, Good Community was twenty twelve. Yeah, Born Center
- 42:24Speaker 1: was twenty twelve, I think, yeah, it was, it was.
- 42:26Speaker 1: It was twenty thirteen. It came out the same day
- 42:28Speaker 1: as Jesus. Yeah, and Take Take Care was what twenty eleven,
- 42:33Speaker 1: twenty twelve? Yeah, yeah, you're right, those are the three.
- 42:37Speaker 1: I don't know who else you would say, Man, there's
- 42:39Speaker 1: people who've had their pockets and their runs, but like
- 42:41Speaker 1: not a decade, bro a decade of consistently being the
- 42:45Speaker 1: fucking guys turning on the radio. And it's like, especially Drake,
- 42:52Speaker 1: what Drake doesn't play fair, don't I just like, dude,
- 42:56Speaker 1: he's so like Drake's no one's ever been able to
- 43:01Speaker 1: make songs that are like like he's the biggest hip
- 43:06Speaker 1: maker ever. Like it's just not fair, Like Drake can
- 43:11Speaker 1: literally do anything, and it's just it's it's number one,
- 43:14Speaker 1: or it's it's it's like, it's just really not fair.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I think that we've never seen anything like that ever
- 43:20Speaker 1: in hip hop. Like what Drake's doing, we've never seen.
- 43:23Speaker 1: You could say, well, Wayne had a couple of year
- 43:25Speaker 1: run where he was like no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 43:27Speaker 1: what Drake's doing, nobody's ever done. You know. It's crazy, though,
- 43:31Speaker 1: If I tell you name your top five rappers, people
- 43:33Speaker 1: don't even put Drake in the I'm not a big
- 43:35Speaker 1: Drake though, because why don't we respect that? Man? My
- 43:38Speaker 1: manager told me he was like those references man kind
- 43:42Speaker 1: of killed it for me. Man. When I heard the
- 43:44Speaker 1: Running through the sixth, I was like, oh, oh, people,
- 43:48Speaker 1: you're not gonna get in that discussion. But no, no no,
- 43:49Speaker 1: But and the thing is is for me, that's why
- 43:53Speaker 1: he can't be in in that discussion. But he could
- 43:55Speaker 1: be in the biggest artist of all time discussion. He
- 43:58Speaker 1: could be in the biggest hip Like I don't put
- 44:00Speaker 1: Kanye in the greatest MC discussion. Yeah, but it's one
- 44:04Speaker 1: of the biggest artists. But but yeah, because I know
- 44:06Speaker 1: that Kanye openly has people write him for him. Yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you know, like Ryan Fest wrote Jesus Walks. I didn't
- 44:12Speaker 1: know that. Yeah, Ryan Fest wrote that song. Wow. So
- 44:15Speaker 1: you know that doesn't take away from Drake. Like I
- 44:17Speaker 1: told you, Kanye is my favorite artist, but I can't
- 44:19Speaker 1: put him in that conversation, just like I can't put
- 44:21Speaker 1: Drake in that conversation. But Drake don't play fair man.
- 44:24Speaker 1: You think Drake got somebody writing his bars? I don't know.
- 44:27Speaker 1: I think I mean, you go listen to that he
- 44:29Speaker 1: rapped rewrapped all them Quentin Miller bars. Those were verses.
- 44:31Speaker 1: But that's not even our favorite Drake project. But do
- 44:33Speaker 1: you think he got another secret person? You know a
- 44:35Speaker 1: lot of people like that if you're reading this tool, Yeah,
- 44:39Speaker 1: people really like that project. Yeah, because that was like him,
- 44:42Speaker 1: that was like his rapping ass rapping project. And the
- 44:44Speaker 1: fact that that was his rapping ass rapping project and
- 44:47Speaker 1: there was what two references I believe there's just not
- 44:50Speaker 1: that least three three. Yeah, So that's why I'm like,
- 44:54Speaker 1: I don't care, because he makes enjoyable music and he
- 44:56Speaker 1: also delivers them because if you listen to the Quentin
- 44:58Speaker 1: Miller versions of those songs, they sound as and then
- 45:00Speaker 1: Drake gets on him and you're like, oh shit, yeah, Drake,
- 45:03Speaker 1: don't play fair, man, it's unfair. No one's ever done
- 45:06Speaker 1: what he's he's doing. I'm not sure anyone will ever
- 45:09Speaker 1: do what he's doing. Yeah, it's like Drake the Weekend,
- 45:15Speaker 1: Bruno Mars. Yeah, like like when we're just talking about
- 45:20Speaker 1: commercial success, who the fuck is touching Drake? Bro, he
- 45:24Speaker 1: could do another ten years like with his eyes closed. Yeah, Bro,
- 45:28Speaker 1: it's it's it's ridiculous. He could do yeah, bro. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: I'm a critical Drake fan, like I'm I think that
- 45:34Speaker 1: there's a lot of things he hasn't done that I
- 45:36Speaker 1: would like to see him do. I would like to
- 45:38Speaker 1: see him make a concept project. All right, So look,
- 45:41Speaker 1: this is what I'm about to say. Earlier, So I
- 45:44Speaker 1: was on a you tapped it on Clubhouse man. I
- 45:47Speaker 1: was on there, Man, I got it, bro, but I
- 45:49Speaker 1: just like, I don't got time for that. Yeah that shit,
- 45:51Speaker 1: take your time, but it's good, like if you're driving
- 45:53Speaker 1: or some shit. But like, so, long story short, I
- 45:55Speaker 1: was having a conversation and they were saying that Drake
- 45:58Speaker 1: isn't one of the best lyricists ever, right, And I
- 46:01Speaker 1: was saying, if we like to be wold By like
- 46:04Speaker 1: super duper triple on tandras and all the other stuff. Right,
- 46:08Speaker 1: But if you can say something so simple that a
- 46:11Speaker 1: baby can understand it, a teenager can understand it, and
- 46:14Speaker 1: a grandmother can understand it, does that make not make
- 46:16Speaker 1: you one of the best lyricists because it's so easily
- 46:20Speaker 1: easy to digest. Sometimes Kendrick will say some shit that
- 46:23Speaker 1: if you're not a rap head, you have no idea
- 46:25Speaker 1: what he's talking about. Same thing with Cole. But if
- 46:28Speaker 1: Draken simplifies so much to what every single person can
- 46:30Speaker 1: understand it, but it's still the dopest line ever, does
- 46:33Speaker 1: that not make him one of the greatest lyricists ever?
- 46:36Speaker 1: I think if he's writing those bars, if he's writing them,
- 46:41Speaker 1: and yeah, I think Drake is an elite MC yeah, yeah,
- 46:45Speaker 1: I just don't know what is he writing? What is
- 46:49Speaker 1: he not? I don't know. So the question that I
- 46:52Speaker 1: don't know would you be heard? Would you be would
- 46:54Speaker 1: you hear lets you say some something came out like
- 46:56Speaker 1: cold wasn't rightdow Ship? Would you be hurt? Of course?
- 46:59Speaker 1: Of course I'd be like, what like if someone told
- 47:03Speaker 1: me Kendrick didn't write his ship or there was I would.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I would be heartbroken, That's what That's what Head had
- 47:07Speaker 1: asked me, Like, Yo, what if you found out Pockin
- 47:08Speaker 1: Biggie had ghostwriters? How would you feel about yourself? I'm like, Dad,
- 47:12Speaker 1: I don't know what I would do. I mean, I
- 47:15Speaker 1: think that there's a lot of our our I think
- 47:19Speaker 1: that there's some substantial situational evidence that Wayne has had
- 47:24Speaker 1: some help with some of his bars. I think when
- 47:27Speaker 1: this is my own bias, but I think when Drake
- 47:30Speaker 1: first came out, I think Drake was helping Wayne with
- 47:32Speaker 1: some bars, because there was very similar when Drake had
- 47:35Speaker 1: ly the Kid. Yeah, we know that, but that wasn't
- 47:37Speaker 1: long cool man. We know that though, because you remember
- 47:41Speaker 1: there was such a jump. Yeah, because like Wayne was
- 47:44Speaker 1: like block is hot five hundred degrees and then all
- 47:48Speaker 1: of a sudden just he was rapping, rapping, and he
- 47:51Speaker 1: was always solid, Like I always thought he was the
- 47:55Speaker 1: best dude in the Hot Boys as far as like
- 47:57Speaker 1: who I like to hear rap? But you know, obviously
- 47:59Speaker 1: Droven Out probably made the best music in that era.
- 48:01Speaker 1: But there was a big jump man his pen game.
- 48:05Speaker 1: He took a fucking leap on Carter one and those
- 48:08Speaker 1: squad of mixtapes and all that shit. So yeah, I
- 48:11Speaker 1: don't know. I also know people who have been in
- 48:13Speaker 1: the studio with Wayne and they're like, he's an alien.
- 48:15Speaker 1: He goes in and it's all off the top of
- 48:16Speaker 1: his head and it's you know, I'm not I'm a
- 48:21Speaker 1: little Wayne fan, but I'm very you know critical. Well,
- 48:24Speaker 1: you know people people really put Wayne in Like, if
- 48:26Speaker 1: you put Wayne in your top five, I just can't
- 48:28Speaker 1: take you serious. Really, I just can't do it, man,
- 48:30Speaker 1: my god, I can't do with god. I don't know
- 48:33Speaker 1: if Wayne would be top five, but if he definitely
- 48:35Speaker 1: in the top seven, come on now, I can't do it.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Wayne also had like an eight year run. Well he
- 48:40Speaker 1: didn't have a year run. What was it like two thousand?
- 48:43Speaker 1: Think about so really think about think about his run. Right, So,
- 48:49Speaker 1: I believe Carter one was five. I was still in
- 48:52Speaker 1: high school. I was gonna best buy when Carter one
- 48:54Speaker 1: came out four oh five. I think it was oh five.
- 48:58Speaker 1: I know Carter two was seven or eight, right, and
- 49:01Speaker 1: then No. Eight was Carter three. So Carter three came
- 49:04Speaker 1: out in eight. I know that for sure. Okay, because
- 49:07Speaker 1: that was the first year I ever got arrested. Four
- 49:11Speaker 1: was Carter one? Yeah, so that was my junior year
- 49:13Speaker 1: in high school? Man, when was Carter two? Was that
- 49:16Speaker 1: six o seven five? Wow? Okay my freshman year? Well
- 49:23Speaker 1: so think about this, right, Carter one and Carter two.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Carter two is my favorite Wayne album. But Carter one
- 49:29Speaker 1: and Carter two, Wayne wasn't the biggest fucking guy, Like
- 49:36Speaker 1: he wasn't like the guy yet those were albums where
- 49:39Speaker 1: people are like, oh shit. Then Carter two came out.
- 49:41Speaker 1: He started calling himself the best rapper alive. Right, He
- 49:43Speaker 1: had a song on there called exactly And even then,
- 49:46Speaker 1: like if you think about Carter two, like what was
- 49:50Speaker 1: the hit record, like the undeniable hit record, It wasn't
- 49:53Speaker 1: go DJ, wasn't like a super smash and was that
- 49:55Speaker 1: was go DJ? Carter one? Yeah, Carter one, So go
- 49:58Speaker 1: DJ was Carter one. That record was dope and it
- 50:01Speaker 1: got radio play. But like his commercial foot like I
- 50:06Speaker 1: think after Carter two he started that feature run in
- 50:09Speaker 1: that Drought, the Drought series and all that shit, dedication,
- 50:12Speaker 1: dedication shit, and then Carter three was like the cherry
- 50:16Speaker 1: on top bro and during that whole run he was
- 50:18Speaker 1: just on everybody. Shit. So I would argue to say
- 50:21Speaker 1: that Wayne's run as the guy probably started in like
- 50:26Speaker 1: seven Carter three dropped, that was the peak, and then
- 50:29Speaker 1: by like twenty ten it was Drake's world. Yeah, so
- 50:33Speaker 1: you say he had a three year run as the guy,
- 50:36Speaker 1: bro as the guy, I don't know. Maybe because I'm
- 50:38Speaker 1: a rapper, rapper bro. When he was putting out the
- 50:40Speaker 1: Dedication one and that's what two thousand and six, like,
- 50:44Speaker 1: come on, now you know what's crazy? I was like,
- 50:46Speaker 1: that was a run all my favorite all my favorite
- 50:48Speaker 1: Wayne shit is shit isn't even on, like it's all
- 50:50Speaker 1: it's on that pif Yeah, bro that yeah Wayne. But
- 50:56Speaker 1: I just don't like, no, no, no no, like if you're
- 50:58Speaker 1: counting like Carter one all the way. So I just
- 51:00Speaker 1: think that after Carter three he dropped No Ceilings, which
- 51:03Speaker 1: to me was the last great lyrical little Wayne. Yeah,
- 51:06Speaker 1: because I wasn't a fan of Carter four. It had
- 51:08Speaker 1: some hits on it. Yeah. By the way, motherfuckers in
- 51:11Speaker 1: the comments hate me because I just had J Mills
- 51:12Speaker 1: up here and I was shitting on the Carter four.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Was not a fan of the Carter four. Huge drop
- 51:17Speaker 1: off to me, major, right, And then he did I'm
- 51:20Speaker 1: not a human being revolver. He just had a lot
- 51:23Speaker 1: of stuff that just wasn't He went to the rock
- 51:26Speaker 1: world and it just wasn't like the level of like
- 51:29Speaker 1: when even the tapes he dropped after that were just
- 51:31Speaker 1: kind of whatever. It was like like no ceilings three
- 51:33Speaker 1: just came out and it's like I haven't heard it yet.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I mean, it's cool, there's some shit on there. Yeah,
- 51:39Speaker 1: but all right, let's just say this. So then the
- 51:41Speaker 1: Trump endorsement, you got to knock it out the top ten.
- 51:45Speaker 1: But you know why he did it. He did it
- 51:46Speaker 1: to get the parted and for these federal charges you got.
- 51:49Speaker 1: You gotta know that that's coming. Because he's got those
- 51:52Speaker 1: gun charges that they just brought up on him. He
- 51:53Speaker 1: might go to prison. I didn't know that. When I
- 51:56Speaker 1: saw that, I was like, oh, the Trump thing makes sense.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Trump's gonna part of Little Wayne. I put a thousand dollars.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Trump has to part in Lil Wayne. There's no way
- 52:04Speaker 1: Little Wayne took a picture with his ass. We're in
- 52:05Speaker 1: that goofy ass sweater and Trump don't give him a
- 52:08Speaker 1: fucking party. How many parties do the president get as
- 52:10Speaker 1: many as he wants? It's unlimited. God damn, he getting
- 52:13Speaker 1: a party. But look, I'm gonna say this. You're saying that,
- 52:16Speaker 1: and I'm not mad at him. If he gets the part,
- 52:17Speaker 1: if he gets to parton, it's all good. I get it. Bro,
- 52:19Speaker 1: you want to do fifteen years of prisoner, go take
- 52:21Speaker 1: a picture with the fucking you know, biggest skysucker in
- 52:24Speaker 1: the world. I mean, look, I get it. Hey to
- 52:27Speaker 1: each their own, but look, this is what I'm about
- 52:29Speaker 1: to say. For you to say that Wayne Runn may
- 52:31Speaker 1: not have been that long, but when it comes to
- 52:33Speaker 1: influence in today's world, sen is the biggest. Come on,
- 52:37Speaker 1: So why is he not in what are we just
- 52:39Speaker 1: basing of If he's one of the greatest lyricists we've
- 52:41Speaker 1: ever heard, some of his punchlines is out of this world? Right? No? No,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I mean I don't know if he's one of the
- 52:46Speaker 1: greatest lyricists. Oh my god, he's just a top twenty lyricist.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Oh top twenty. Like would you put as a lyricist
- 52:54Speaker 1: you said lyricist? Yeah, but he's not a storyteller. He's
- 52:57Speaker 1: not gonna give you a story but you But if're
- 52:59Speaker 1: talking about saying lyrics sing dope ship, than there I mean,
- 53:01Speaker 1: we don't want to dive in that hole because I'll
- 53:03Speaker 1: start the name and names that you'll get mad about.
- 53:05Speaker 1: So Rayce the five nine is a better lyricistan Little
- 53:08Speaker 1: Wayne bro So how this Braddy gives a better lyricists?
- 53:11Speaker 1: Little Wayne? Killer Mike's a better lyricist a little Wayne.
- 53:16Speaker 1: You said lyricists, You said Loupe Fiasco better lyricist than
- 53:22Speaker 1: little is one of the greatest lyricists ever. But he
- 53:24Speaker 1: just don't get the like Lil Wayne is not even
- 53:27Speaker 1: like sniffing that level of lyricism. So do you think
- 53:30Speaker 1: do you think Drake is a better lyricist of those
- 53:32Speaker 1: than your name? Because Wayne, do you think when it
- 53:35Speaker 1: comes to rapping and punch lines triple on tandras, who's
- 53:39Speaker 1: really touching him other than Jay? When it comes to
- 53:41Speaker 1: races to five nine? Yeah, loop A Fiasco, Yeah, Killer
- 53:46Speaker 1: Mike Uh. I mean, but they're not on that eminem eminem. Yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 1: He's is a man of words. Andre three thousand, Andre
- 53:56Speaker 1: three thousand. I mean, I could keep going, but I
- 53:59Speaker 1: don't don't. I'm not I've never tapped into Royce. I've
- 54:02Speaker 1: never tapped into Killer Mike, Jay Electronica, never tapped into
- 54:06Speaker 1: Ja Electronica, Jay Electronica, col Rap come on no at
- 54:11Speaker 1: all projects because I heard that project. I skimmed through it. Well.
- 54:15Speaker 1: That project did not deserve no. I don't disagree with you. Listen.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I don't have no disrespect to them. I don't know
- 54:21Speaker 1: they washed that man on that record. I don't listen.
- 54:24Speaker 1: I don't know Jay Electronica. I have no dog in
- 54:26Speaker 1: the Jay Electronica fight. He should not have gotten nominated.
- 54:30Speaker 1: There's a there's a some others that probably shouldn't have
- 54:32Speaker 1: gotten nominated. But you know some homies of mine that
- 54:35Speaker 1: got nominated. I'm happy for. Yeah, what album do you
- 54:38Speaker 1: feel like should have got on there? I feel like
- 54:40Speaker 1: Roddy rich and Little Baby Little Baby, Bro. Little Baby
- 54:42Speaker 1: has had one of the greatest years. Roddy Richard Little Baby. Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so I forgot about right his album came out.
- 54:50Speaker 1: But I say a Little Baby is the best album
- 54:51Speaker 1: of this year. Then I like Little Baby Baby. I
- 54:53Speaker 1: don't album better than crazy about Little Baby is. If
- 54:56Speaker 1: you're like a hardcore hip hop head, you can still
- 54:59Speaker 1: listen to his album and it's like this ship is fire, bro,
- 55:02Speaker 1: He's really talking about some shit. Yeah, Little baby crazy.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Now I'm a huge fan of I didn't know bro
- 55:06Speaker 1: it was that young. He's like twenty five years old.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I think he's younger than that. Twenty five. Yeah they did.
- 55:11Speaker 1: They just did the thirty on the thirties twenty five.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I think he's twenty five. Yeah, they just did the
- 55:15Speaker 1: Forest thirty on the thirty. No, listen, I think Wayne
- 55:18Speaker 1: is dope. I just twenty six. He's twenty six. Wow.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I thought he was younger than that. I thought he
- 55:25Speaker 1: was like twenty two or something. Oh oh, today's birthday,
- 55:30Speaker 1: Happy birthday, a little baby yo. So yeah, man, Wayne
- 55:33Speaker 1: is fire. But I just think we put so much.
- 55:36Speaker 1: He influences different influence. There's I mean, okay, where do
- 55:41Speaker 1: you put Tupac in your top as far as influence,
- 55:44Speaker 1: He's like number one or two one Yeah, because I'm
- 55:47Speaker 1: from the West. No, No No, but like overall, Tupac influenced everybody.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Everybody like Tupac is. Probably he's the most influential rapper
- 55:54Speaker 1: I think. Ever, Yeah, it's like him. Yay ho Wayne.
- 55:58Speaker 1: I feel like where hip hop is and low key
- 56:02Speaker 1: future where hip hop is. If you got to give
- 56:06Speaker 1: Drake a lot of credit as far as influence like see,
- 56:09Speaker 1: I think nobody was singing Drake was influenced by Ita
- 56:12Speaker 1: Wates and Heartbreaks, but he was, he was, He didn't
- 56:15Speaker 1: say will Yeah, yeah he did. But as far as
- 56:19Speaker 1: making a whole career out of rapping and singing, no
- 56:21Speaker 1: rappers like hip hop is now typically art. It's like
- 56:24Speaker 1: basically it'sodic in R and B. Sure Drake's up there too,
- 56:28Speaker 1: nobody was really doing that. That's how Fitty end of
- 56:31Speaker 1: Jar rules career. Like Bro, you singing on records, that's
- 56:33Speaker 1: what we're doing. Yeah, I think it's Pac. I think
- 56:35Speaker 1: Wayne is up there and influence Wayne lyrics, poc storytelling.
- 56:42Speaker 1: I want to visualize your lyrics pop well, I don't
- 56:45Speaker 1: feel like Pac was gonna give you like crazy crazy bar.
- 56:47Speaker 1: He's just gonna make you feel it emotionally. I think Tupac.
- 56:51Speaker 1: I would listen to Tupac ten times out of ten
- 56:53Speaker 1: over Lil Wayne. Now, do I think Lil Wayne is
- 56:57Speaker 1: probably technically a better lyricist like talking about data, Yeah, probably,
- 57:02Speaker 1: But Tupac, like you said earlier about Drake, Chupac can
- 57:05Speaker 1: say some shit so simple and it just like hits you. Yeah,
- 57:09Speaker 1: And that's a fucking talent in itself. It's the emotion
- 57:11Speaker 1: in Tupac's voice that that made sense. Yeah what Yeah,
- 57:15Speaker 1: but I well, we ain't told about we said Tupac
- 57:18Speaker 1: and Wayne. But hold on, I gotta send We got
- 57:22Speaker 1: Pete Rock Collen in on zoom, hold on the time
- 57:24Speaker 1: of that twol forty five. Okay, we got twenty minutes.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Give me a sick Sorry guys, mid podcast text rapping up.
- 57:37Speaker 1: So yeah, shout out to Wayne. I'm a Wayne fan.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I enjoyed the Wayne. I I like, I enjoy the Wayne.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I enjoy But man, man, these young kids, Bro. I
- 57:45Speaker 1: had some guy in here tell me that. Bro, there's
- 57:47Speaker 1: this kid named Veno, this rapper who I'm working with,
- 57:51Speaker 1: and he's twenty three, and with a straight face, he
- 57:54Speaker 1: told me no one's had a better ten years in
- 57:56Speaker 1: hip hop history than Lil Wayne from ninety eight to eight.
- 57:59Speaker 1: And I said from ninety eight, Like what did you
- 58:03Speaker 1: just say? I wanted to smack him and kick him
- 58:06Speaker 1: out of jay Z. He wasn't think about JAYZ, bro
- 58:09Speaker 1: or DMX or fifty or like during that span. Like
- 58:13Speaker 1: what Anyway, I don't think anyone's ever had a bigger
- 58:17Speaker 1: two or three year running fifty. Yeah, fifty was the
- 58:20Speaker 1: biggest motherfucker on the planet. It's fifty. I think the
- 58:24Speaker 1: two biggest rappers ever at their peak was Snoop and
- 58:26Speaker 1: fifty Like Doggie style Snoop. He's on the cover of
- 58:30Speaker 1: Fuck's Peak. Bro, he was. Bro. Now I'm talking about it.
- 58:34Speaker 1: I'm talking bro, nah, bro god level. It was a
- 58:37Speaker 1: point where Wayne anything that Wayne touched. But I think
- 58:40Speaker 1: seven oh Wayne, like he's in that top five run
- 58:44Speaker 1: with his peak? How high he got? Bro? You know
- 58:46Speaker 1: Wayne's up there his period of time where he was
- 58:48Speaker 1: like the biggest, didn't he When was the last time?
- 58:51Speaker 1: I know? We in a different ERAa now, But Wayne
- 58:52Speaker 1: didn't do like one point three million in a week
- 58:55Speaker 1: when he dropped Carter three, Like, come on, now, that's
- 58:58Speaker 1: a run bro. You yeah, yeah, I don't think. I think.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I don't know. I think Marshall mallers up. He did
- 59:07Speaker 1: in the age too well. To be honest, I mean,
- 59:09Speaker 1: it's no, no, no no, yeah, But I just think peak
- 59:12Speaker 1: is it's Snoop and it's it's fifty. Yeah what fifty
- 59:16Speaker 1: sons first week? I don't remember that. Sure you ever
- 59:19Speaker 1: remember somebody coming out of the debut album with more
- 59:21Speaker 1: anticipation than fifty. Yeah, that shit was crazy. I wonder
- 59:25Speaker 1: how the fun did it happen like that because it
- 59:26Speaker 1: wasn't like he was doing a crazy feature run. It
- 59:28Speaker 1: wasn't like in the Club was that ship, it was
- 59:31Speaker 1: a it was it was like, I can't remember a
- 59:35Speaker 1: bigger song than in the Club. I remember having that
- 59:37Speaker 1: shit on a Casele mixtape on my disc man in
- 59:40Speaker 1: high school and me and my friends would just listen
- 59:41Speaker 1: to in the Club with all the drops and shoutouts
- 59:44Speaker 1: over and over. I feel like I'm gonna say this
- 59:46Speaker 1: and this might be crazy. Bro. I feel like as
- 59:49Speaker 1: big as The Box was, if we were in the
- 59:51Speaker 1: selling record time, I feel like it would have did
- 59:53Speaker 1: those type of numbers. Bro. Definitely, the Box was one
- 59:56Speaker 1: of the craziest records I've heard. I agree wholeheartedly. Literally,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: my car, Bro, I call that ship right away. When
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: I was I was in Hawaii listening to the album
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: and they were like, yoyo, we should be playing uh.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I forget which record that they wanted to play at
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: the station because it had a feature on it had
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: uh you talking about the one with h the dude
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: from the kid from New York. Hey Buggy on it record.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: There was a record on there and they were like,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: no, no no, we're gonna go. This one's got the big
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: feature until the label picks it. I'm like, bro, the
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: boxes the box like track two, yeah, track two right,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Oh my god. I heard that. I was like, oh
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: my god. I showed it to everybody. I think Roddy
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Rich and Post Malone have the best melodies in the
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: history of music. I hate to say that because people
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: are gonna hate kill me in the comments, but bro,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: the way Roddy Rich can skate in a verse melodically,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: the pockets he hits on his melodies, it's fucking crazy,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: at least in the in the last like ten years.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I don't know about the history of There's Michael Jackson,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: there's Quincy Jones, here was fucking you know, Lionel Ritchie
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: and shit. But god, did Drake hits some crazy pockets? No, no, Drake.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: But I just think Drake and Post like they're like,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: melody game is so unfair. I'd be like, it's impossible
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: for Roddy Rich to not make a song that is
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: easy to listen to. Yeah, Like, I've never heard of
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Roddy record that. I'm like, man, turn that shit off. Yeah,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: it's like all his record like post Malone's the same way. Like,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: even if you're not a post Malone fan, all his music,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: you got to get ros here. Oh my god, bro,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: it's crazy. He's one of those artists that literally just
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: makes his after hits, that's all he does. And then
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Roddy's gonna be the same way. Yeah. I'm excited to
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: see what Roddy does next because I got a feeling
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: it's coming soon. We'll see. Been a year since the
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: album dropped. Yeah, it came out last December. I was
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: in Hawaii. It was just it came out the same
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the same week they Juice World died. Wow. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I remember I was in Hawaii for the first time,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: riding around convertible listening to Roddy's album and found that
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Juice World died. I was like, fuck yeah, shout out
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: to uh to Roddy Rich though, But yo, man, your
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: project Idols is out, ye go follow. We actually got
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: a freestyle dropping with him too that will come out
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: a few days after this comes out. So being a
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: lookout for that and being a look out for a
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: lot of stuff with you, you can stay in the
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: him for a while. Yeah. Man, that's the way. I'm
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: good on bread, So there you go. Yeah that's bro. Yeah,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I'm good on bread, so I don't need to do
