- 0:00Speaker 1: Coach Pender's back up in the broadcast booth with us.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It was an interesting star. We're just talking about Charlie West.
- 0:06Speaker 1: And I know you had to have patience because he
- 0:08Speaker 1: walked a bunch of guys early. He walked the first
- 0:10Speaker 1: two guys he faced, and then again in the third
- 0:13Speaker 1: inning there were two walks in a row. You had
- 0:15Speaker 1: the bases loaded that he had to get out of that.
- 0:17Speaker 1: And I'm wondering where you were at at that point,
- 0:20Speaker 1: because I saw you on the top step and about
- 0:23Speaker 1: to make the step and thene you didn't do it?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Good call. It was, you know, Charlie looked like a
- 0:29Speaker 2: pyromaniac and he didn't get burned somehow, you know, And
- 0:33Speaker 2: you don't see that very often. He was playing with
- 0:35Speaker 2: fire from pitch one. He just could not command it
- 0:38Speaker 2: in the first inning. Then he gets out of it
- 0:40Speaker 2: with three punch outs, you know, and it's like, what
- 0:42Speaker 2: in the heck am I going to do here? So
- 0:44Speaker 2: we had Shaw up I think two batters into the game.
- 0:46Speaker 2: We had Greg Shaw running down to the pen and
- 0:49Speaker 2: we had him warming up for four innings I think,
- 0:52Speaker 2: you know, and then we had to use him. We
- 0:53Speaker 2: had to bring him in. He got back on the
- 0:55Speaker 2: beam today. But Charlie doesn't get hit. You know, It's like, man,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I know, you got a nibble to a certain an extent,
- 1:00Speaker 2: but you know that's how his stuff works. But really,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I mean, you can he can be a little bit
- 1:05Speaker 2: more aggressive in the zone and today you know, he
- 1:09Speaker 2: was dodging bullets and thankfully, you know, they didn't they
- 1:12Speaker 2: didn't get a hit with runners on and and he
- 1:15Speaker 2: wouldn't have given up a hit period. I don't think
- 1:17Speaker 2: that sunball doesn't get caught by Doherty. That was I
- 1:20Speaker 2: think the only hit he gave up, you know, right
- 1:22Speaker 2: after that, Choy got that single. But yeah, frustrating, but
- 1:27Speaker 2: you know, hey, he's been doing it somehow. He's been
- 1:29Speaker 2: doing it. He's been escaping, you know, trouble. And we
- 1:31Speaker 2: had enough guys behind him today. It was just like,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I don't think these guys are going to square him up.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He's just going to be his own worst enemy. And
- 1:38Speaker 2: thankfully we got out of it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: He's like Houdini out there for and he also got
- 1:41Speaker 1: a lot of fly ball outs. I mean he had
- 1:43Speaker 1: four fly balls to center field in a row for
- 1:46Speaker 1: outs in the middle of the third and the fourth inning,
- 1:48Speaker 1: only one ground ball out really in the fifth inning,
- 1:51Speaker 1: so uh, you had to be pleased that he hung
- 1:54Speaker 1: in there. Yeah. I don't want a pictures struggling like that.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You could just fall over the cliff and blow the
- 2:00Speaker 1: game up. But he didn't do that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: No, he didn't. And you know, kudos to him. Is
- 2:03Speaker 2: just his pitch count was up there to the point
- 2:05Speaker 2: where we had to get him out after the fifth
- 2:07Speaker 2: and the guys behind him did all their jobs today.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I thought they were very good. You know, Finn gives
- 2:12Speaker 2: gives one up, but I thought he was throwing strikes.
- 2:14Speaker 2: He was coming out of his hand while his stuff
- 2:16Speaker 2: looked good. Shaw looked really good. Crucial got his batter, so,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, a good day. We haven't had enough good
- 2:22Speaker 2: days on the mound. And it didn't look like it
- 2:24Speaker 2: was going to start like a good day from the mound,
- 2:27Speaker 2: but the guys cleaned it up and it was, you know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: a really good weekend. Yeah, almost sixteenth straight at you
- 2:32Speaker 2: know in the conference, that's not easy. I don't think
- 2:34Speaker 2: we've ever done that.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So yeah, that's that could be record breaking. And you
- 2:37Speaker 1: haven't had a shutout in like seventy seven games. You
- 2:39Speaker 1: almost had it today, but that didn't happen. How about
- 2:42Speaker 1: getting Aden Doherty back in the lineup. Guy comes up
- 2:45Speaker 1: with three hits today.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you know he can hit. He can really hit.
- 2:49Speaker 2: He goes to the opposite field really well. He hits
- 2:51Speaker 2: the ball on the line, doesn't try to do too
- 2:53Speaker 2: much with his swing. You know, he doesn't have a
- 2:55Speaker 2: ton of power, but he can still hit, hit one
- 2:57Speaker 2: in the gap. I like his bats, and we needed
- 3:00Speaker 2: to get him kind of push him to get out there.
- 3:01Speaker 2: He probably would have been better to wait, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: till Tuesday, or even against the University of Maine, but
- 3:07Speaker 2: I wanted him to see live pitching today so that
- 3:09Speaker 2: we could potentially, you know, Northeastern throws another lefty at us,
- 3:12Speaker 2: we can have him ready to go. And I know
- 3:15Speaker 2: bo Rude will be fine. He'll be ready to go
- 3:17Speaker 2: whether it's off the bench or in the starting lineup.
- 3:19Speaker 2: But we need to get Aiden back in the mix.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And I'm glad we did. He swung the bat well.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And finally, Graham MacArthur's starting to figure out this ballpark.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He's hit the ball on the right side three times
- 3:31Speaker 1: in these three games and hit it out of here.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were trying to bust them in and
- 3:35Speaker 2: they hit him. You know, he does not go out
- 3:37Speaker 2: of the zone too often, and he was laying a
- 3:40Speaker 2: little heavy on his front side, on his front foot
- 3:43Speaker 2: for about three four weeks and he kind of went
- 3:45Speaker 2: into a bit of a tailspin when we began Biggie's play.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Seems like he's dug out of that and looks a
- 3:49Speaker 2: little bit more balanced at the plate. He's gotten and
- 3:52Speaker 2: he's actually gotten in a little bit better shape too.
- 3:55Speaker 2: We had a talk mid season. He's working at it,
- 3:59Speaker 2: so you know, I'm happy to see some progress there.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And you know he's going to be a big he'll
- 4:04Speaker 2: be a big key for us down the stretch. You know,
- 4:06Speaker 2: we've got I think we got Biller in a good
- 4:08Speaker 2: place right now in the five hole. I like the
- 4:10Speaker 2: way our lineup shakes out, with the way that we
- 4:12Speaker 2: have our speed situated. He's going to block that speed MacArthur,
- 4:16Speaker 2: but he still he gives us really good at bats.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the Huski is a roll, and I mean twenty
- 4:21Speaker 1: of twenty one. Always good to finish strong, no matter
- 4:25Speaker 1: what sport you're playing, you want to finish strong.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, and we have an opportunity to stay at
- 4:30Speaker 2: home now, seven home games in a row, first time
- 4:33Speaker 2: that's happened all year, and we're excited about it. So
- 4:36Speaker 2: hopefully the Husky faithful will come out Tuesday night. I
- 4:39Speaker 2: haven't even seen a forecast yet, I haven't looked that
- 4:41Speaker 2: far ahead, but I hope it's a nice night and
- 4:43Speaker 2: we can fill the ballpark because that's a really good
- 4:46Speaker 2: Northeastern team. I mean, they are the best team in
- 4:48Speaker 2: New England right now, and that's been our kind of mantle.
- 4:52Speaker 2: We got an opportunity to kind of avenge a defeat
- 4:56Speaker 2: that we took up there. We didn't do any hitting
- 4:58Speaker 2: at all and they shut us out. And hopefully we
- 5:01Speaker 2: can have a bunch of fans in the stands on
- 5:03Speaker 2: on Tuesday night cheering us on and and uh, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 2: keep this thing rolling.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, looking forward to that one. It's gonna be a
- 5:09Speaker 1: big one for New England baseball fans on Tuesday. All right, coach,
- 5:13Speaker 1: thanks appreciate it, Thank you good Win. That's Jim Penders
