Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / Paul Blair: IRS Admits Pastors, Churches CAN Endorse Candidates
Transcript
- 0:00Hey everybody, I'm going to show you a sneak peak behind the scenes look at the World
- 0:04View Matters studios here at Freedom Project Media.
- 0:08First of all, here's the control room.
- 0:09This is where the producer sits with the assistants and they press all the buttons, do things
- 0:13to make the show look excellent, things that I don't know how to do, but they make it
- 0:16look wonderful.
- 0:17Now, I haven't been here in two weeks.
- 0:19Why?
- 0:20Because they've completed a brand new studio.
- 0:23We've got five cameras.
- 0:25We've got all these massive LED screens.
- 0:27Just look at these massive walls with the beautiful new lighting and we've got so much
- 0:33heat being put off here that they had to order brand new air conditioning just for this room
- 0:37for this building.
- 0:39Over here, brand new desk, it almost looks like a TV news station to make everything look
- 0:43good and smooth and we can interview guests here as well.
- 0:46My very first guest on the new set will be Liberty Pastors, Paul Blair and that is coming
- 0:52up.
- 0:54Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 1:04defending biblical Christianity, no topic, off limits.
- 1:09And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 1:14Welcome friends to our brand new World View Matters studio.
- 1:18This is an opportunity.
- 1:19Maybe we can pan around a little bit if you want to go to that camera, Jeff, our video
- 1:24producer and the booth.
- 1:26This is really exciting to us.
- 1:28This has been, the Freedom Project has been around for 15 years.
- 1:31I've been with them for eight years.
- 1:34Look at that.
- 1:35This is the brand new studio now.
- 1:37I haven't been in this room for two weeks, like I said.
- 1:40And look, these are these massive LED walls, these screens put off a lot of heat.
- 1:45We've got the air conditioning units put in just for this as well.
- 1:49And we're just so thankful, praise God.
- 1:53First of all, for his provision.
- 1:55Thank you, friends and family in Christ, brothers and sisters for praying.
- 1:59And for those of you that have been able to donate financially, we are a 501C3.
- 2:02But this is just amazing to me, all the bells and whistles.
- 2:06So I want to bring in today's guest and I want to read something before I get to Paul
- 2:11Blair.
- 2:12This is from the Oklahoma and the headline is, the IRS says, church leaders can endorse
- 2:19candidates.
- 2:20Oh, my goodness, we knew this a long time ago, right, Paul?
- 2:24So it says an Edmund pastor ignored the criticism he received when he participated in an initiative
- 2:30that encouraged ministers to endorse political candidates from their pulpits.
- 2:35His critics back in the 2000s warned Paul Blair that his Liberty Baptist church would lose
- 2:42its tax exempt status with the IRS.
- 2:46But Blair said he broke no rule.
- 2:49And now he's going to say, I told you so because a recent court filing in which the IRS stated
- 2:55the houses of worship, worship churches can, can, can endorse political candidates to their
- 3:03congregation without running the risk of losing their tax exempt status as nonprofits.
- 3:10We knew that.
- 3:11Let's bring in Paul Blair with Liberty Pastors, brother.
- 3:14Thanks for your time today.
- 3:15Good to see you.
- 3:16How many times have you said I told you so now?
- 3:18Well, David, I have to admit, it didn't feel good to know that everything we've been
- 3:25saying for the last 20 years was proven to be accurate to these journalists that I've
- 3:30had relationships with for just that long.
- 3:33You know, 20 years ago, I think they looked at me and thought I was crazy, but I told
- 3:37them all along that this was legal.
- 3:39We had every right to do so.
- 3:41And in fact, it was those same journalists that I've had relationships with in Oklahoma
- 3:45for these two decades when the first was to call and ask for comment.
- 3:50And I was only, I was only happy to tell them that the law had not changed.
- 3:56The IRS finally admitted what we had said all along that, obviously, the parent attacks
- 4:03as court justices in our early history acknowledge is the power to control and even to destroy.
- 4:11And the state was to have no control over the church.
- 4:14The church is to be able to speak freely and proclaim morality and truth and righteousness
- 4:20boldly into the culture.
- 4:22And if we were able to be taxed by the federal government and we spoke something contrary
- 4:26to what the government was doing, then they'd be capable of destroying it.
- 4:29So this has always been the way churches have never been subject to taxation in the United
- 4:35States of America.
- 4:36And it was nice that that's now public record by the IRS.
- 4:41We'll see if many pastors are affected by it.
- 4:44Quite frankly, I think many of these guys like to hide behind it and don't want to be controversial.
- 4:49Yeah.
- 4:50My sense is this is a great headline, but I don't think a lot of pastors are going to suddenly
- 4:55start talking about, quote, political issues.
- 4:58And Paul Blair, that is part of the problem, isn't it, that so many people pastors and
- 5:03laypeople, Christians have been duped into believing wrongly that you can't talk about
- 5:10quote, political issues.
- 5:12We're talking about biblical morality.
- 5:14For example, abortion is not a political issue.
- 5:17And the Bible has a lot to say about life, preborn life and mother's womb, but pastors
- 5:22and Christians have been back and away from that.
- 5:25That's why we have plant parenthood businesses closing down and yet abortion is increasing.
- 5:34So there's a demand and that's by people believe, it's a political issue, we can't talk
- 5:38about it.
- 5:39Would you care to share anything about that?
- 5:40Well, David, statistically, there are some 335,000 churches across the United States
- 5:46of America.
- 5:47Now, we get the wrong idea sometimes.
- 5:49They're not all mega churches.
- 5:50As a matter of fact, the vast majority of churches have less than 65 adults.
- 5:55So these aren't monstrous entities.
- 5:57However, we have a body of Christ across the United States.
- 6:01And when you look at the moral temperature of our country, you can recognize that we
- 6:05haven't done a very good job.
- 6:07And we see 70 million babies that have been murdered inside their mother's womb since 1973.
- 6:16Right now, we see this debate, which has just come about in the last 10 years.
- 6:21Think about it.
- 6:2210 years ago, even Barack Obama, when he was running for re-election, or excuse me, I guess
- 6:2715 years ago, when he was running for re-election, he made the statement that he believed in traditional
- 6:31merits.
- 6:32And then, of course, we see the Obergefell decision, which was unconstitutional act by the
- 6:36Supreme Court, which hopefully will now be reversed.
- 6:39I know Matt Stammer is on that one.
- 6:42In 10 years, we've gone from this idea of the court illegally granting same-sex marriage
- 6:47to now.
- 6:48We have gender mutilation and indoctrination in our schools.
- 6:53And we see children that are being irreversibly ruined with surgeries and hormone replacement
- 7:00therapies.
- 7:01And all of this is going on under our watch.
- 7:03So the reality is, most pastors get the idea that we're not supposed to be controversial.
- 7:07And quite frankly, none of us enjoy controversy.
- 7:11None of us like to be in arguments.
- 7:13However, when there is great evil going on, someone needs to stand against an end point
- 7:18to the truth.
- 7:19And when you look at the history of the church, as a matter of fact, look at our Lord and
- 7:22Savior.
- 7:23You know, Jesus is the most controversial person that ever walked the face of the plant.
- 7:29And quite frankly, the history of the church has been one of controversy.
- 7:33The Apostle Paul, going through the book of Acts, everywhere he went, usually a riot
- 7:38broke out or he wound up in prison or being chased out of town.
- 7:42So the idea that the church is not supposed to be controversial and not supposed to take
- 7:46on these very important but tough issues is just wrong.
- 7:51And hopefully, now, more pastors will recognize that there is no threat from the IRS.
- 7:57And quite frankly, if they were conned by that in the first place, that sand.
- 8:01But at least now, there's no more excuse to where they can say, oh, we can't talk about
- 8:05such a subject.
- 8:06Jesus is Lord of all.
- 8:08We're supposed to, as disciple makers, disciple our flocks in every area of life and culture
- 8:15from a biblical perspective.
- 8:17So that's our job.
- 8:18There's nothing off limits.
- 8:20It's not Jesus is the Lord of Sundays only or Sunday morning.
- 8:24And then the rest of the life we live on our own, Jesus is Lord of all.
- 8:29And everything that we do should reflect his character and glorify him.
- 8:34That's right.
- 8:35And like you said, nothing has changed with this new headline.
- 8:37The IRS just said, yeah, pastors can endorse, but you've been doing that.
- 8:42And I hope that more pastors will, I think it's going to take time.
- 8:47But I want to segue briefly, we'll come back to this because it's still a big topic with
- 8:51the IRS and that we'll talk about the Johnson Amendment.
- 8:54I want to talk about where you are this week and you are in Williamsburg, Virginia, August
- 9:0018 through the 21st, Liberty pastors training camp.
- 9:04This is one of the solutions to the things we're talking about, getting pastors equipped
- 9:10so they can go back and boldly speak the truth and equip their congregations.
- 9:15Tell us about Liberty pastors training camps we got, Virginia, Florida, and then Michigan.
- 9:20Go ahead, Paul.
- 9:22Well, the reason we're in Virginia this time, David, is because of a very important issue
- 9:26that's upcoming there.
- 9:28And again, this is a perfect example of what we were just talking about.
- 9:31The state of Virginia is considering an amendment to their state constitution, which would greatly
- 9:37liberalize their rules on abortion.
- 9:40In fact, if the Constitution of Virginia is amended, it will make Virginia a destination
- 9:45state where people from all across the country will fly in for easy abortions at all stages.
- 9:51The state of Florida just fought this off within this last year successfully.
- 9:56But that's why we are in Virginia.
- 9:58We're working with the Virginia Family Foundation to try to awaken the pastors in Virginia as
- 10:04to just watch on the line with this upcoming election.
- 10:08And sadly, there may have at one time been some degree of debate between whether you're
- 10:13following Christ as a Democrat or a Republican.
- 10:17But that's not true anymore.
- 10:18It's not simply talking about what tax rate you pay or what level of encroachment to the
- 10:25civil government have in one's life.
- 10:28Now it's a situation of purely good versus purely evil.
- 10:32I mean, there is one party that sets the party of no holds bars, no holds barred sexual
- 10:38immorality.
- 10:39There's one party that wants to indoctrinate our children into sexual insecurity and get
- 10:45them to question whether God actually was correct in creating them a male or female
- 10:50and to mutilate their bodies or take gender permanent damaging drugs that they can never
- 10:55recover from.
- 10:56I mean, we've got a same-sex marriage on the ballot.
- 11:00We've got abortion all about all these things are cut and dried, crystal clear, from a biblical
- 11:05perspective.
- 11:07And so now there's a situation in Virginia where they've got a slight edge in their
- 11:12or their legislature, 51 to 49 Democrats are Republican.
- 11:16And the truth is our goal is to flip that because the Republicans have become the party
- 11:22that reflects life and at least to some degree, sexual morality, and obviously Fox News
- 11:28and the Republican Party is not going to leave the fight on restoring sexuality into how
- 11:34God designed it in pureness and holiness.
- 11:37That's going to be the body of Christ.
- 11:38And we're going to have to step up on that one.
- 11:40But if Virginia can flip the legislature to where it's a majority of Republican control,
- 11:46then they will be able to stave off this amendment, which again will cost tens of thousands,
- 11:51if not hundreds of thousands of innocent lives there in Virginia as it will become a destination
- 11:58state for the sin of offering our children to the gods of Molek, Bail and Asterov.
- 12:05I want to emphasize the fact that so people don't understand what happens.
- 12:10These pastors and their wives can attend these training camps, their hotels are paid for.
- 12:17They just need to get down there and you've got Virginia, you've got Florida, and you've
- 12:21got Michigan, and you always have these in strategic states and locations where something
- 12:26important is coming up in election or you have them in swing states like you have.
- 12:31And friends, this is so important, please get your pastor this information.
- 12:36The website is LibertyPastorsU.com, that's LibertyPastorsU.com.
- 12:43Paul, there's so much history.
- 12:45We're going to have to take a brief pause here in a minute, but when we come back, I think
- 12:48I'd like you to share a little bit of the history on the black rule of regiment.
- 12:53People forget how influential pastors have been in America and that we might not have
- 12:58in America the way we know it now, if it weren't for pastors.
- 13:02So we'll be right back with Paul Blair on World View Matters.
- 13:06Today's show is brought to you by Harbinger's Daily, world news, biblically understood.
- 13:12Stay informed at harbingerstaley.com.
- 13:23Paul, let's talk about, there's so many things I wanted to ask you, and this is going
- 13:30by way too fast with you, before we get to some history, and that's very important to
- 13:35talk about, would you feel comfortable sharing your health battle?
- 13:40What happened to you when you were in DC earlier this year?
- 13:43This is amazing.
- 13:44You texted me when I sent you an email or I texted you and you were in the hospital,
- 13:50and the next Sunday you're back in the pulpit, no cloma.
- 13:53Would you please explain what happened?
- 13:56Well my wife will attest to my stubbornness and refuse to stop.
- 14:01We happened to me in Washington, DC, we were attending the Council for National Policy
- 14:05meetings, which we are members of, and it was on a Saturday morning, and we were getting
- 14:09ready to head to the airport, and I'd been up for a couple hours, was in a good mood,
- 14:14felt good, we packed them, we're literally 10 minutes away from walking out the door.
- 14:18And just suddenly, over the course of about 15 seconds, I went from feeling perfectly fine
- 14:23to where I could not breathe, and the left side in my left lung just hurt with excruciating
- 14:30pain.
- 14:31As much pain as I have ever dealt with, and of course being next athlete, having gone through
- 14:35a lot of surgeries, and having a lot of health issues from football, I can deal with pain,
- 14:40but this was excruciating.
- 14:42And to make a long story short, we wound up spending a week at Fairfax Hospital and some
- 14:48of the best care superior doctors, I mean, truly there was a Romans 828 moment, I see
- 14:53why it happened there.
- 14:55And they wound up diagnosing it as a double pneumonia with pleuricy in my left lung, and
- 15:02they wound up draining over three liters, you know what a two liter bottle of poplux
- 15:08light, they drained three liters of bloody fluid off of my left lung.
- 15:12So it was a very painful week.
- 15:15This problem comes from my throat cancer that I had six years ago where I have a tendency
- 15:20of getting pneumonia, but at the time I thought I was having a heart attack, and quite frankly
- 15:25that's one of the things that puzzles the doctor, because pneumonia generally comes on slowly,
- 15:31and you can kind of feel it creeping up on you.
- 15:33This was just absolutely sudden.
- 15:35As a matter of fact, Cindy and I had worked out in the gym at the hotel the day before,
- 15:40and I had done 30 minutes of the elliptical, I was having no problems with my breathing.
- 15:44But if anything, at that moment when I was in the ambulance, by the way, I've had two
- 15:49ambulance rides this year, the only two ambulance rides in my life have been now at the age
- 15:54of 62, so I guess the warranty has expired and things are followed apart now.
- 16:00But if there's one thing that was at peace, I mean, I was working so hard to try to breathe,
- 16:05and I was just so tired that I was ready to stop trying, because my lungs just weren't
- 16:12functioning, and I was desperately trying to breathe in air.
- 16:16And with each breath, I was trying to relay something to my wife.
- 16:20I was trying to tell her what to do and where to go, and where we had everything and who
- 16:24to call, and make sure and tell her how much I loved her, and to make sure and tell her
- 16:28how much I loved my children, and I wouldn't recommend anybody that's watching this.
- 16:35Take time and write out a letter of everything that you need to tell your spouse and your
- 16:40kids, whether it be personally and emotionally, whether it be about the Lord, your walk
- 16:44with the Lord, I encourage you to do that, because it'll be a blessing to your kids.
- 16:48But also, you know, when the bills are paying, where your money is in the banks and stock
- 16:54market, everything that you might want to tell them, make sure and write it down so that
- 16:58you're not trying to desperately get that out before you breathe your last breath.
- 17:04But the wonderful thing, David, is I literally thought I was going to die, because I just
- 17:09was so tired of trying to breathe, and I just couldn't, I was exhausted.
- 17:13I mean, it was worse than running windsprints or anything else than they put us to a football.
- 17:19I was just so tired from trying to draw the next breath that I was done.
- 17:25I just couldn't work out the energy and do it.
- 17:28And the wonderful thing about that, there's a bright side, is that I was at perfect peace.
- 17:33You know, when you go through a minute like that, and time is very slow at that point.
- 17:38And everything is very vivid.
- 17:41And you know, after trying to communicate with my wife and convey my love and my wishes
- 17:47to her, you know, they thought, cross as your mind was, well, am I ready?
- 17:51Is there anything?
- 17:52And it's like, yeah, I'm ready.
- 17:55I know Jesus is my Lord and Savior, and I was at perfect peace.
- 17:59And the things I was thinking about was my grand babies, which is one thing I just treasure
- 18:06and my kids and my wife.
- 18:08So, you know, that was a pretty interesting experience.
- 18:13We spent a painful, real good hospital.
- 18:15And so that's the story.
- 18:19Well, I was shocked, well, maybe not too shocked to see you back in the pulpit the following Sunday already.
- 18:25I was going, you're kidding because I was texting Val back and forth.
- 18:28But Paul, we're thankful that the Lord has not done with you yet.
- 18:32There's more territory to be retaken.
- 18:35So let's talk about where we were in America now in the early days, late 1700s,
- 18:42and with the black robe regiment and pastors, because we've forgotten a lot of the history.
- 18:47And they certainly don't teach that in the government schools anymore.
- 18:50So could you please condense that for us?
- 18:53Well, remember these guys that were part of the great awakening.
- 18:56It was their fathers and grandfathers that had come out of the tail end of the dark ages
- 19:01and came into the Reformation.
- 19:03So tyranny was fresh on their mind.
- 19:06And what we don't understand, because we've never had to face it,
- 19:10is before a tyrant can gain control over your body,
- 19:14he must first gain control over your mind.
- 19:17Otherwise, you're going to fight him over everything.
- 19:20So in every case of tyranny, whenever a tyrant rises to power,
- 19:24the first thing they do is they want to take over education.
- 19:28Because somebody may not never be able to convince me to do wrong,
- 19:33or convince me about the proct called climate change.
- 19:37For an example, or man-made climate change,
- 19:39something that we're facing in our day and age.
- 19:41You know, good luck with that.
- 19:42I've done the research. I know better.
- 19:44But heavens, I mean, I'll die off in 10 years and they won't have to worry about me.
- 19:49But if they can get control of the education,
- 19:51then they can train my children to believe whatever they want to do.
- 19:55So in every tyranny, they go after the kids first.
- 19:58And then the next thing is they go after the control of information,
- 20:03the free flow of information.
- 20:05You know, you're sitting there in your studio.
- 20:07I'm sitting here in Orlando today.
- 20:09I have no firsthand experience of anything that's going on anywhere in the country
- 20:14outside of our condominium, because I'm not a firsthand observer.
- 20:18So both you and studio and me here are going to have to trust some new source
- 20:24as to be truthful and to present us the facts.
- 20:27And whatever they present to us, and in the way they present them to us,
- 20:31we'll change our response.
- 20:33We might be angry and ready to run out of here with piss forks,
- 20:36or we might be in good moods.
- 20:38Oh, well, that's wonderful news.
- 20:40So the media, a free media is critical in any tyrannical society.
- 20:45And then here's the last piece.
- 20:46Our founding fathers understood the civil liberty and religious liberty go hand in hand.
- 20:52Who, he who controls the church will control the people.
- 20:57That was the problem in the dark ages.
- 20:58They didn't want people reading the Bible for themselves.
- 21:01They went in a fear hill and fear God and be subject to them.
- 21:05Plus, if you're controlling the morality factor,
- 21:09then nothing the state does is wrong,
- 21:12because the state church is saying that whatever the state's doing has to be right.
- 21:18Those were the factors that affected our founding fathers.
- 21:22And one of the things that we hear about, you know,
- 21:24tax ace without representation,
- 21:26that certainly was a part of the Declaration of Independence.
- 21:30But the final straw was what was called the Declaratory Act.
- 21:34When the king of England rolled back the tea tax,
- 21:37a roll back some of the stamp taxes and some of the other taxes,
- 21:41but issued this Declaratory Act,
- 21:42which basically made him sovereign over everything, including religion.
- 21:47And John Willispoon, our excuse me, George Winfield,
- 21:51one of the leading lights of the first reign awakening,
- 21:55wrote a letter to the pastors in North America
- 22:00warning them of what was to come.
- 22:02And what was to come was the reestablishment of the Church of England
- 22:07over the 13 colonies.
- 22:09So that was religious freedom that was getting ready to be lost.
- 22:13And remember, why the pilgrims came here to begin with?
- 22:15Why the Puritans came here to begin with?
- 22:18You know, much of it was religious liberty.
- 22:20The freedom to worship God without being under the boot
- 22:23of the Anglican Church.
- 22:25That's right.
- 22:26So understand, that was the threat and the pastors got it.
- 22:28They knew where this was headed.
- 22:30This was heading towards absolute tyranny
- 22:33rather than the freedom that they had enjoyed
- 22:36in these 13 British colonies.
- 22:39And it was the writings of the pastors
- 22:42that motivated and educated our founding fathers.
- 22:45Matter of fact, the very first meeting
- 22:47of the first Continental Congress in Philadelphia,
- 22:50when 56 men from across the colonies met for the first time,
- 22:54you know, John Adams, Sam Adams, George Washington, Patrick Henry,
- 22:58John Zayn, these heroes of Americana.
- 23:01First time they'd ever met face-to-face
- 23:03was in Carpenter's Old Philadelphia
- 23:05and they began Congress with a two-hour prayer meeting
- 23:08and Bible study because they begged God for deliverance.
- 23:12They begged God for direction.
- 23:14And of course, the famous first shot heard round the world
- 23:18after Paul Revere's ride was in a churchyard in Lexington.
- 23:23And the militia of Lexington, the 77 men
- 23:27that faced off against some 700 British redcoats
- 23:30and the first shots fired for independence,
- 23:32was led by the pastor of the church
- 23:35in Lexington, Jonas Clark, and his deacon,
- 23:38who was a retired captain from the Indian Wars
- 23:41amending John Parker.
- 23:43So literally every part of America
- 23:46and the reason we are exceptional or have been exceptional
- 23:50is to the degree that we were built on a fear and love of God
- 23:54and trying to do things God's way.
- 23:57Obviously, anytime man's involved, we're gonna make mistakes
- 24:01and America has made it, shared mistakes,
- 24:03but generally, after a few decades, we will correct.
- 24:07That's where the pulpit comes in, we will of course correct.
- 24:10And we have seen that dance over the last 250 years.
- 24:13And David, this is a great year.
- 24:14We must remember that phrase in the Declaration of Independence
- 24:19that stayed in the reason that we are free,
- 24:22the laws of nature and nature's God.
- 24:24America does not determine what right and wrong is
- 24:28by a vote of the people.
- 24:30America was built on the laws of nature and nature's God,
- 24:33which was a legal term in the 1750s that meant the holy minor.
- 24:38America was established on God's principles of what truth is
- 24:42and what right and wrong is.
- 24:44So we absolutely are a Judeo-Christian country.
- 24:48What's the definition of family?
- 24:50Well, the Bible says, one man, one woman raised her children
- 24:53and nurtured them in the issue of the law.
- 24:55Do you have a right to private property?
- 24:57Absolutely.
- 24:58Do we should be having a press of government and taxation?
- 25:01Absolutely not.
- 25:02Whose responsibility is to raise the children?
- 25:04Moms and dads raised their children.
- 25:07What about sexuality?
- 25:09Sex and dirty word?
- 25:10Nope.
- 25:11God created it as a gift to be held in holiness between a husband
- 25:15and his wife, only period.
- 25:17We have an absolute biblical foundation in the world of you
- 25:20and our country doesn't work unless we remember that
- 25:24and return to that.
- 25:25And this year we celebrate the 250th.
- 25:28It's all about trying to remind people what that truth is.
- 25:31Amen, brother.
- 25:32And you're doing a great job with Liberty Pastors.
- 25:35Obviously, you think there's hope.
- 25:37You think there's still time.
- 25:39Otherwise, you wouldn't be doing what you're doing.
- 25:41I seem to see less than a minute left in the program today
- 25:44but I seem to see a shift at least spiritually.
- 25:47More, even the younger generation,
- 25:49more interested in spiritual things.
- 25:51We see it in the government and in media.
- 25:53We see it just slightly.
- 25:55But there's so much work to be done.
- 25:57Paul, thank you.
