- Sean Graver: Maybe there's a person at your job that you enjoy talking to a little more than you probably should. Maybe it started as just good professional conversation, easy rapport, shared humor, somebody who actually gets what your day looks like, and somewhere along the way the nature of that connection started to shift. You're not sure exactly when. Maybe you're not even sure if you're reading it right. Well Welcome back to Prayer Before Work. My name is Sean. I'm your prayer partner. And let's look at Proverbs. We're ⁓ Proverbs 423, where Solomon writes, Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flows the springs of life. You know, many of Solomon's Proverbs were addressed to my son. And he wasn't just talking about romance here. He was talking about the center of who you are. I mean, this is the place where your desires live, where you form your decisions and and where your character is actually built. Guard that, he says, above everything else, guard that. The workplace puts men and women in close proximity under real pressure. And when people share stress and they share winds and work side by side every day, I mean genuine connections happen. And that's not a problem by itself, but here's what Solomon understood about the human heart is it drifts. And it doesn't usually seem obvious at first. But what starts professional can become personal before you see it clearly. You look up one day and you've texted that person more than you meant to, or you told them something that you haven't even told your spouse. Maybe you realize that you're thinking about them in a way that doesn't quite fit the category of coworker. Now I have seen this happen and none of that makes you a terrible person. It does make you human. And it makes today a good day to be honest with yourself about where that line is and whether you need to reestablish it to a more appropriate place. So guarding your heart. might mean you change when and how you communicate. It might mean you're more intentional about keeping other people in the conversation instead of just the two of you. Or it might mean you ask yourself a serious question, what am I actually looking for here? And is this behavior honoring to my spouse or to the other person's spouse? Well let's pray. Father, you made us to connect with other people And you know how complicated that gets in the places where we spend most of our time. Someone who's praying with me today needs your help, Lord. Would you give them clarity about where the lines are and the courage to draw them before they're needed? Protect their heart. Protect the hearts of the people around them, and help them to be someone whose presence in every relationship. Makes people more secure, not less secure. Keep their heart guarded with all vigilance. Pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Now go make today count.
