- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. And it's finally Friday.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Woo hoo hoo! Welcome to the weekends. But if you're
- 0:16Speaker 1: on June holiday mode, every day is a weekend, right?
- 0:20Speaker 1: But for us adults, yes, we've made it to the weekend.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm going to guide you through and we still got
- 0:24Speaker 1: that Lazada shopping experience worth 100 bucks. Singapore's number one
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Inviting you into the weekend already. What plans do you have?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm curious. Um, for me, got to attend a friend's wedding.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It seems like 2026 is the season of wedding, so
- 0:42Speaker 1: maybe it's just a coincidence and, uh, all the millennials
- 0:45Speaker 1: are getting shipped off to be married, so maybe that's why.
- 0:49Speaker 1: But yeah, that's, that's this weekend and then on Sunday, oh.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I've got something exciting to tell you about Sunday in
- 0:55Speaker 1: just a little bit. If you are planning your travels,
- 0:58Speaker 1: because you know what they say, right, it's never too
- 1:00Speaker 1: early to predict and forecast where you want to go
- 1:03Speaker 1: and your travels and your holidays, especially when it means
- 1:07Speaker 1: you could be saving a lot more money or even
- 1:10Speaker 1: collecting enough miles perhaps to fly business, treat yourself for
- 1:14Speaker 1: the first time. I'm telling you to go. This coming weekend,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna be quite busy.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Because aside from a friend's wedding on Saturday, Sunday is
- 1:23Speaker 1: gonna be a full day for me over at Jewel
- 1:25Speaker 1: Changi Airport, and I'm so excited for this one because
- 1:28Speaker 1: they're back for the 3rd time, and they want you
- 1:31Speaker 1: to walk away with 250,000 KrisFlyer miles. Now, I was just, uh,
- 1:37Speaker 1: talking to my friends right and I was saying, yeah, Singaporeans,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we have a passion for food. We have a passion
- 1:42Speaker 1: for traveling.
- 1:43Speaker 1: But we also have a passion or maybe even a
- 1:46Speaker 1: secret passion for collecting KrisFlyer miles. I mean, seriously, if
- 1:50Speaker 1: you're nodding to yourself right now, and you know how
- 1:52Speaker 1: it's like to accumulate KrisFlyer miles, I'm with you. Um,
- 1:56Speaker 1: please first make sure that you download the KrisFlyer app and, um,
- 1:59Speaker 1: the KrisFlyer Fest is happening 6th and 7th of June,
- 2:03Speaker 1: so this Saturday and Sunday. Both days, you'll be able
- 2:07Speaker 1: to go down from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., but
- 2:10Speaker 1: the bulk of the activities will be happening.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Um, between maybe 10 to 6, 10:30 to 6 thereabouts,
- 2:18Speaker 1: then I think there'll be performances as well. There's going
- 2:20Speaker 1: to be tons of stuff, so please come down. Um,
- 2:22Speaker 1: there are little booths and pop-ups too, so you can,
- 2:25Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, you could also be using your
- 2:27Speaker 1: KrisFlyer app to be paying and collect some miles at
- 2:30Speaker 1: the same time. That's what they did last year and
- 2:32Speaker 1: the previous edition. So that's what I hope they're going
- 2:35Speaker 1: to continue doing.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And if you, uh, if you come on down, you
- 2:38Speaker 1: can also find out the best ways to earn and
- 2:41Speaker 1: redeem miles and even stand to win up to $20,000
- 2:45Speaker 1: worth of prizes and the ultimate prize of a quarter
- 2:48Speaker 1: of a million KrisFlyer miles, that's $250,000. So, I'll be
- 2:53Speaker 1: hosting the whole of Sunday. Hope to see you there.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'll be there from 10:30 onwards, all the way till
- 2:58Speaker 1: about 6 or so.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So like I said earlier, what could be more rare
- 3:02Speaker 1: or even more difficult to get than striking a 40 ticket?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Usually when you say, oh, I, I won the lottery,
- 3:09Speaker 1: it's like 1 in a million chance, right? Like what,
- 3:11Speaker 1: what are my chances? Um, this one, I would say
- 3:14Speaker 1: it's a 1 in a billion chance, but it's not
- 3:18Speaker 1: what you think. It's nothing really quite related to winning
- 3:21Speaker 1: money or anything.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But a 2nd 1 in a billion spherical egg, which
- 3:28Speaker 1: means it's round in shape, has been found by yet
- 3:31Speaker 1: another Singapore family in the same month. So, I'm not
- 3:34Speaker 1: sure if you kind of saw the news or social media,
- 3:37Speaker 1: maybe I think it was last week of May, um,
- 3:40Speaker 1: or maybe second last week of May, that a spherical
- 3:42Speaker 1: egg was found in a family's home where they bought
- 3:46Speaker 1: the tray of eggs, right? They found a spherical egg.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And on the twenty-seventh of May, another family found a
- 3:51Speaker 1: spherical egg, which is a very, very, very rare thing
- 3:55Speaker 1: to happen. Um, um, how rare is it? Well, you,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you just think about it, it's round in shape, it's
- 4:01Speaker 1: exactly like a ball. Usually when you see your eggs,
- 4:04Speaker 1: they are like pointy at the top, right? But this
- 4:06Speaker 1: one is clearly like a sphere.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Very cute, to be honest. Um, and I think that family,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the second family, had a ball of a time with
- 4:14Speaker 1: it because they love eating their eggs, you know, they
- 4:15Speaker 1: make eggs every morning and all that. So they actually
- 4:18Speaker 1: saved the egg, they didn't cook it.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And they even measured it and I think their son
- 4:25Speaker 1: and daughter would check on it every day to make
- 4:27Speaker 1: sure that it's safe in the fridge. Um, they're thinking
- 4:30Speaker 1: that they may want to sell it, and here's the
- 4:32Speaker 1: reason why. In 2015, a woman in Britain actually auctioned
- 4:37Speaker 1: off a perfectly spherical egg that was hatched by her hand,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and guess how much it sold for?
- 4:43Speaker 1: $827 Singapore dollars. That's almost $1000 for a spherical egg,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and I'm telling you this, right? The spherical egg is
- 4:50Speaker 1: smaller than the normal egg. So, I don't know what
- 4:53Speaker 1: they'll do with it because don't eggs go bad after
- 4:56Speaker 1: a while? How do you preserve an egg? Now, now
- 4:58Speaker 1: I wanna know because previously, if you wanna
- 5:02Speaker 1: Preserve like just the shell or something like, you, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: there are ways to knock out the yolk and the,
- 5:07Speaker 1: the egg white inside, right? But if they don't want
- 5:09Speaker 1: to damage it at all and keep it in its
- 5:12Speaker 1: perfect shape and form, original form, how do you preserve it?
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm very curious. So, we'll see what this family decides
- 5:19Speaker 1: to do. I think they've um affectionately named it already,
- 5:23Speaker 1: their thoughts of selling the egg with proceeds going towards
- 5:25Speaker 1: helping patients with a certain syndrome.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It's a condition that affects one of their friend's daughters.
- 5:31Speaker 1: They're thinking of doing that, but we'll see. And coming
- 5:34Speaker 1: up right after 7:00 a.m. we've got tons of prizes
- 5:37Speaker 1: coming your way, including a $100 Lazada shopping experience. But
- 5:41Speaker 1: one thing I'm very excited about later on this morning, um,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'll have the opportunity to speak to the Kid Leroy. Yay!
- 5:48Speaker 1: I haven't spoken to him ever. And I think when
- 5:51Speaker 1: it comes to the Kid LeRoy, um, on the back
- 5:53Speaker 1: of so many viral moments, right?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Especially he's collaborated with so many people. I mean, look, you're,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you're Justin Bieber's of the world. I think Jong Kook,
- 6:03Speaker 1: Central Sea, he's definitely, he's um collaborated with them as well.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And of course, you will not forget this song.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Probably and arguably still one of the most viral moments
- 6:15Speaker 1: for the Kid LeRoy, so we can't wait to speak
- 6:17Speaker 1: with him. That's happening later on. It will not be
- 6:20Speaker 1: aired live because he's calling in from somewhere else and there's,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I'm sure a big time difference. We're gonna need to
- 6:25Speaker 1: edit that first before packaging it for our show. So,
- 6:29Speaker 1: you'll get to hear it probably maybe next Monday or Tuesday,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but I'm really looking forward to that. So I'll be
- 6:34Speaker 1: toggling quite a few things during the show here today.
- 6:37Speaker 1: But oh well, it's Friday. I'm in a good mood.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I hope you are too. Now, I had a question
- 6:41Speaker 1: for you earlier. I said, would you take notice if
- 6:45Speaker 1: some cash disappeared from your room, for example? I'm not
- 6:49Speaker 1: talking about just like $10 or $5 talking $17,000 OK?
- 6:55Speaker 1: This happened um here in Singapore, unfortunately.
- 6:58Speaker 1: A domestic helper decided to steal $17,000 worth of cash
- 7:04Speaker 1: from her employer's children, and they're only like 11 and
- 7:07Speaker 1: 12 years old. Unfortunately, it was to fund online gambling. Now, I, OK,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I don't really know how this online gambling stuff works,
- 7:15Speaker 1: but from what I understand, you know, sometimes you see
- 7:18Speaker 1: ads being fed to you and like, oh, it's like
- 7:20Speaker 1: easy money or something or you can play slots online.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Um, yeah, those things can be pretty, can be pretty
- 7:25Speaker 1: dangerous because you lose money like in a blink of
- 7:27Speaker 1: an eye, right? And who's even policing it or who is,
- 7:31Speaker 1: who is even the organizer behind it? And what are
- 7:34Speaker 1: they doing with the money? Like, I'm not sure if
- 7:35Speaker 1: it's even regulated. So, unfortunately, she fell prey to online
- 7:40Speaker 1: gambling and
- 7:41Speaker 1: The whole idea of getting rich fast, maybe she was
- 7:45Speaker 1: in a bad position, she needed, she needed money, that's
- 7:48Speaker 1: why she thought, OK, maybe this gambling thing is a
- 7:49Speaker 1: good idea. I'm not making excuses for her, but it
- 7:52Speaker 1: must have been a very huge moment of desperation because
- 7:56Speaker 1: she reportedly began working for the family in March of 2025, um,
- 8:01Speaker 1: in quite a nice neighborhood, and once she came across
- 8:04Speaker 1: this online slot machine game on Facebook in early Feb,
- 8:08Speaker 1: She discovered that she constantly needed to top up her accounts.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So she considered, you know what, I'm going to steal
- 8:15Speaker 1: some cash from the children. Uh, I know this feels terrible.
- 8:19Speaker 1: She found a box containing cash and a key in
- 8:22Speaker 1: the drawer, so it wasn't exactly.
- 8:24Speaker 1: difficult to unlock the box. Um, she stole, initially, she
- 8:28Speaker 1: stole $1000 and she met a man who helped her
- 8:31Speaker 1: convert the money into her own currency, deposited it into
- 8:34Speaker 1: the gaming account, but she quickly lost all of her funds, as,
- 8:37Speaker 1: as you know, with gambling, right?
- 8:39Speaker 1: To recover her losses, what she did was she stole
- 8:41Speaker 1: some more. Over the next two days, she stole another
- 8:45Speaker 1: $4000 another $6000. To avoid suspicion, she left $1000 in
- 8:51Speaker 1: each packet, but I think too much was stolen. The
- 8:53Speaker 1: bulk of it was stolen anyway. In total, it was
- 8:55Speaker 1: $17,000 and she claimed that eventually her gambling account was
- 9:01Speaker 1: frozen and she couldn't claim any of the money back,
- 9:03Speaker 1: even though she won some rounds. She's claiming that, oh, she,
- 9:07Speaker 1: she couldn't get the money back.
- 9:09Speaker 1: So yeah, guess what? The children obviously discovered it. I mean, 17,000,
- 9:12Speaker 1: that's a, that's a stack. I'm not talking about like
- 9:15Speaker 1: just a few $5 notes, you know, this is a stack.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So their mother questioned the helper who admitted it and
- 9:22Speaker 1: uh she was subsequently arrested. She pleaded for leniency. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: think she really knows she made a mistake. So I
- 9:28Speaker 1: think um we'll see what happens. She's not in a
- 9:32Speaker 1: great spot. I believe her family as well, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 1: in some poverty back in her hometown.
- 9:36Speaker 1: But still not an excuse to steal from your employer's kids.
- 9:39Speaker 1: While I do feel for her, and I do hope
- 9:42Speaker 1: that they come to some sort of resolution and her punishment.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I don't know what the eventual punishment will be, but yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I I got a bit of a soft spot for her.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I do feel her. My family's helper is also from Myanmar,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and I understand the situation can be a little bit
- 9:57Speaker 1: difficult to explain right now back, back home.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But yeah, let's see where this goes and um she
- 10:02Speaker 1: will still need to face the consequences of her actions eventually. Well, yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 1: upon returning to Singapore, a lot of heat here, a
- 10:08Speaker 1: lot of sunlight, but in Europe right now because it's
- 10:11Speaker 1: Euro summer, right, there's also very, very, very crazy sun.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Um, crazy heat as well, but the air is dry, crisp,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and cool. That's the difference. And the waters, like when
- 10:22Speaker 1: you go to the beach, it's actually cold. So you
- 10:26Speaker 1: get this nice like yin and yang kind of situation
- 10:28Speaker 1: and you don't feel that hot. Um, I could somehow
- 10:31Speaker 1: tolerate the heat in Europe, but in Singapore, it's just different.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm so sticky all the time.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But one thing that, um, you know, a lot of
- 10:39Speaker 1: people may not realize would be the bugs and the
- 10:42Speaker 1: mosquitoes in certain parts of Europe, OK. So just if
- 10:46Speaker 1: you're going very soon, because this is the peak of
- 10:48Speaker 1: Euro summer right now, and I think, well, a Monaco
- 10:51Speaker 1: GP is happening this weekend. We actually saw the setup
- 10:54Speaker 1: of the Monaco Street circuit, which was very cool cool.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Because it's really similar to Singapore, the way they do
- 11:00Speaker 1: it up, and a lot of people always compare Monaco
- 11:04Speaker 1: to Singapore, right? Like we are both small countries or
- 11:08Speaker 1: city-states as we would identify as, and we both have
- 11:12Speaker 1: street circuits. Singapore's seen as one of the more affluent countries, right?
- 11:16Speaker 1: Developed and affluent, and similarly to Monaco as well, you
- 11:20Speaker 1: will see crazy beautiful apartments and buildings, and somehow people
- 11:25Speaker 1: walking around just look very rich, you know.
- 11:27Speaker 1: In fact, I was like, hm, maybe I should have
- 11:29Speaker 1: dressed a bit better for Monaco.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot of fancy people out there, but yeah, anyway,
- 11:35Speaker 1: for more of my travels, I'll be updating very soon,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but uh over the past two weeks, I've just really
- 11:40Speaker 1: been living in the moment, so I didn't really post much.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think I only posted like one or two things
- 11:45Speaker 1: from my trip so far. So we'd love to share
- 11:47Speaker 1: more recommendations in case you're curious. I was 3 years
- 11:50Speaker 1: old when I realized there's a food republic in Beijing,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and I don't think it's just Beijing, it's across China actually.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I don't know why. I just, maybe because I haven't
- 11:59Speaker 1: visited China in a very long time. I just never
- 12:02Speaker 1: noticed it. Um, but it's been there for about 26
- 12:06Speaker 1: long years. Just announced though, Food Republic is about to
- 12:09Speaker 1: exit Beijing after 26 long years, but they'll focus on
- 12:15Speaker 1: its network of nearly 20 other Food Republic stores across China.
- 12:19Speaker 1: So it's not over. Um, but I think for Beijing,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it was over in the Oriental Plaza shopping mall.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And uh that is their last Beijing outlet closing on
- 12:29Speaker 1: the 15th of June at 8:00 p.m. Um, the, the
- 12:32Speaker 1: closure was announced with customers with membership or store, store,
- 12:37Speaker 1: store value cards. I think they can process their refunds
- 12:40Speaker 1: as soon as possible. That's what they said.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Um, and here's some fun facts. China's first Food Republic
- 12:45Speaker 1: store actually opened in Shanghai in 1997. How did I
- 12:50Speaker 1: not know this? Are you as clueless as I am?
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean, look, if you've been traveling to China, maybe
- 12:56Speaker 1: you would have realized, but I think that tenancy lease
- 12:59Speaker 1: um would be expiring.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And our friends who are at BritTalk, which is the
- 13:03Speaker 1: company that owns the food court chain, right? They said, hey,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know what, it's just, it's just it. Yeah, time's up,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and I think they just focused on their other networks
- 13:11Speaker 1: and expand their business plans. So, it is not totally goodbye.
- 13:14Speaker 1: They still have a very strong presence over in China,
- 13:17Speaker 1: so good for them.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Um, but the next time I go to China, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: want to make it a good one, you know. If
- 13:22Speaker 1: you have any recommendations, please drop me a text right now, 90050987.
- 13:28Speaker 1: So many of my friends have been saying, sis, go
- 13:30Speaker 1: to China, go to China, you don't know what you're
- 13:31Speaker 1: missing out on. It's really developed so much and there's
- 13:34Speaker 1: so many things to, to explore. They're like living in
- 13:36Speaker 1: the future.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I know, I know. I've seen a lot of the videos,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but give me your honest opinions, drop me a text,
- 13:42Speaker 1: 90050987 if it's convenient for you. About 10 to 15
- 13:46Speaker 1: minutes away before I open up phone lines at 669-11987.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Since I'm alone, I would love to chat with you.
- 13:53Speaker 1: In fact, friends that are very close to me and
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, my, my own partner says that
- 13:58Speaker 1: I don't stop talking. I mean, I, I do, I
- 14:01Speaker 1: do when I'm alone, I don't really talk or yet,
- 14:03Speaker 1: but I do enjoy conversations with people. So that's why
- 14:07Speaker 1: this hour, next hour gives me so much joy. I
- 14:10Speaker 1: get to chat with you and get your opinions on
- 14:12Speaker 1: this one, which would be a very Singaporean thing here today.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'll tell you more in just a bit, but it's
- 14:18Speaker 1: got to do with queuing, OK? But not, not what
- 14:21Speaker 1: you think. It's not what you think. I'll fill you
- 14:23Speaker 1: in in a while based off a quite a sweet
- 14:26Speaker 1: story that I saw this morning.
- 14:27Speaker 1: But in exchange, I've actually got something from Lazada that
- 14:31Speaker 1: you cannot miss a $100 shopping experience. 66 is tomorrow,
- 14:36Speaker 1: by the way, they're celebrating a big one. So, if
- 14:38Speaker 1: you need some fashion or beauty finds or gadgets, maybe
- 14:41Speaker 1: even travel essentials, Lazada 66 sale has something for everyone.
- 14:47Speaker 1: It's a perfect excuse to finally add to cart and
- 14:49Speaker 1: just shop away. Like I said, I, I can tell
- 14:52Speaker 1: which one of my neighbors love to do online shopping.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I see Lazada packages.
- 14:56Speaker 1: At their doorstep quite often. For more info, visit their Instagram,
- 14:59Speaker 1: Lazada_SG or you can even log on to their website
- 15:03Speaker 1: for more deeds. That is Lazada.sg. Talking about queues and
- 15:07Speaker 1: cutting queues right now, a very, very Singaporean thing for us.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Sometimes we get defensive, sometimes we dedicate time to queue
- 15:15Speaker 1: up for something we're passionate about. But this particular Malaysian
- 15:19Speaker 1: woman has come out to thank a group of Malaysians
- 15:23Speaker 1: and Singaporeans.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Who apparently let her cut the airport security queue because
- 15:29Speaker 1: she was about to miss her flight. So what was
- 15:31Speaker 1: going on was she was flying in from, um, Kunming,
- 15:35Speaker 1: China to Johor, Malaysia, found herself facing a very long
- 15:38Speaker 1: queue at airport security. Now, this is where we really
- 15:41Speaker 1: take Changi Airport for granted. Every time I come back,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, yo, our efficiency is unmatched, but she
- 15:48Speaker 1: only had about 10 minutes left to check into a flight,
- 15:51Speaker 1: so she was panicking.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Uh, to her surprise, travelers in the queue, they were
- 15:55Speaker 1: mostly Malaysians and Singaporeans. They actually made way to let
- 15:58Speaker 1: her go first when they understood her situation. Now, she
- 16:03Speaker 1: said it in a very nice way, um, but she
- 16:05Speaker 1: also said, it is the spirit of strangers willing to
- 16:08Speaker 1: make way for you when you need help the most,
- 16:10Speaker 1: and she was very grateful for it.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Because it was unforeseen circumstances that, you know, um, got
- 16:15Speaker 1: her quite late to the airport. So, they actually, the
- 16:18Speaker 1: Singaporeans and Malaysians went, go, go, go, you can't miss
- 16:20Speaker 1: your flight. We're not on the same flight anyway, you,
- 16:22Speaker 1: you just go ahead first. And the kindness did not
- 16:24Speaker 1: stop there. I think the people continued to pass the
- 16:27Speaker 1: message further down the line, telling everyone to let this
- 16:30Speaker 1: lady pass through to catch a flight. So, a lot
- 16:33Speaker 1: of them understood their situation.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Um, one person reminded her to tell the security staff
- 16:40Speaker 1: about rushing in to catch the flight so that they
- 16:42Speaker 1: will also let her go first, you know. So eventually
- 16:45Speaker 1: she passed dozens of people, got to the front of
- 16:47Speaker 1: the queue, she made it and uh they all waved
- 16:51Speaker 1: goodbye to her, which was so cute, right? I mean,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you can imagine.
- 16:56Speaker 1: As a person in desperate need of help and you're
- 16:59Speaker 1: by yourself as well, and you look back and all
- 17:02Speaker 1: these strangers have just made way for you, they wave
- 17:04Speaker 1: you goodbye. I mean, it's a core memory for you.
- 17:07Speaker 1: You remember it for a very long time.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Um, it has happened to me before. Someone has asked
- 17:11Speaker 1: whether they could go before me, and I'll tell you
- 17:14Speaker 1: my story in just a bit, but I want to
- 17:15Speaker 1: hear yours. 669-11987 or drop me a message, 90050987. We
- 17:23Speaker 1: understand queuing can be a sensitive thing because time and
- 17:25Speaker 1: effort has been put in, but have you ever been
- 17:28Speaker 1: asked by a stranger whether they could go, go first
- 17:31Speaker 1: before you?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Or have you ever had to ask someone to cut
- 17:34Speaker 1: their queue before? We're talking about queue cutting and if
- 17:38Speaker 1: people ask politely, is that OK? Um, an incident where
- 17:42Speaker 1: this Malaysian lady said she almost missed her flight due
- 17:45Speaker 1: to unforeseen circumstances and
- 17:47Speaker 1: The the queue to immigration was so long, but she
- 17:50Speaker 1: saw that in the queue, it was mostly Malaysians and Singaporeans.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So she politely asked and explained her predicament and they
- 17:56Speaker 1: actually all made way and let her go first so
- 17:59Speaker 1: that she would catch her flight. So, a nice show
- 18:02Speaker 1: of kindness from strangers. My question to you is, have
- 18:05Speaker 1: you ever been
- 18:05Speaker 1: In a similar situation where you have had to ask,
- 18:08Speaker 1: is it OK if I cut the queue? Do you
- 18:11Speaker 1: think I can go first, or has someone asked you
- 18:14Speaker 1: that question before? Heading to our messages first, quite a
- 18:17Speaker 1: few coming through. I'm saying hi to YW. You say, morning, Sonia.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I rarely get cut cued. I know, sorry, this is
- 18:25Speaker 1: very Singaporean.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But oh my goodness me, I brought my 5 year
- 18:28Speaker 1: old son and daughter to the toilet. My son, with
- 18:31Speaker 1: the big marble eyes, went to ask the auntie in
- 18:34Speaker 1: the queue in front of us, Auntie, can you let
- 18:36Speaker 1: me go first? I'm very urgent. I almost wanted to
- 18:40Speaker 1: bury myself in the ground. I never taught him this.
- 18:42Speaker 1: The auntie also best lah. She said, no, auntie also
- 18:45Speaker 1: very urgent.
- 18:47Speaker 1: But if a similar case was to happen to me, I,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I would let the boy go through, but you clarified
- 18:52Speaker 1: that the auntie is relatively old. Maybe she's really very
- 18:55Speaker 1: urgent or she's got a medical condition, um, but uh
- 18:58Speaker 1: YW also clarified, I did not teach him this. I
- 19:00Speaker 1: don't know where he learned it from. I've never done
- 19:03Speaker 1: that before.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And you even sent me a picture of your son.
- 19:06Speaker 1: He indeed has those puppy dog eyes, you know. How
- 19:10Speaker 1: do you say no to that? Like, I'm, I'm sure
- 19:12Speaker 1: he'll get anything he wants with those eyes. Let's be real. OK, um,
- 19:18Speaker 1: messages coming through here. Um, Ali, you said, morning, Sonia.
- 19:22Speaker 1: A middle-aged uncle asked if he could cut my queue
- 19:24Speaker 1: at the supermarket. I had a basket full of items
- 19:28Speaker 1: and he was only checking out a bottle of water.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think it's reasonable, so I let him go first.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I actually feel quite bad when I
- 19:38Speaker 1: see people with just one item and I have a
- 19:40Speaker 1: whole like trolley full of it. So, um, to be honest,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I would have done the same as you. In fact,
- 19:44Speaker 1: I offer if they want to go first, if they
- 19:46Speaker 1: only have like one or two items, right? OK, when
- 19:48Speaker 1: we come back, more of your phone calls, 669-11987. Let
- 19:53Speaker 1: me know, was there ever a time where someone tried
- 19:56Speaker 1: to cut your queue? Could be for a valid reason,
- 19:58Speaker 1: or you might have had to ask for that favor
- 20:01Speaker 1: from a stranger. Let me know.
- 20:02Speaker 1: And in exchange, you could be walking away with a
- 20:05Speaker 1: $100 shopping experience to Lazada 66 sale happening tomorrow. You
- 20:09Speaker 1: can snag a whole bunch of discounted items. I would
- 20:12Speaker 1: love for you to have that, OK. So call me
- 20:14Speaker 1: right now. I've been talking about cutting queue, a very,
- 20:17Speaker 1: very Singaporean thing, but inspired by um this Malaysian lady
- 20:20Speaker 1: saying that she was running so late for her flight
- 20:23Speaker 1: and the immigration queue was way too long, security check
- 20:25Speaker 1: and everything.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And a bunch of Singaporeans and Malaysians who were in
- 20:29Speaker 1: the queue actually let her go first. So, basically, dozens
- 20:32Speaker 1: of people parted and let this lady go through, to
- 20:35Speaker 1: which it's a moment she will never forget. And that's
- 20:38Speaker 1: why I wanted to ask you here today, has anyone
- 20:40Speaker 1: ever asked or requested nicely?
- 20:43Speaker 1: To cut your queue or maybe not so nicely, I
- 20:44Speaker 1: don't know. Or have you had to ask someone whether
- 20:47Speaker 1: you could cut their queue before for whatever valid reason?
- 20:51Speaker 1: Going to messages and I'm saying hi here to G. Morning, Sonia. Usually,
- 20:56Speaker 1: if they're elderly or parents with kids, I don't mind
- 20:58Speaker 1: letting them cut the queue. I have done that, whether
- 21:01Speaker 1: it's waiting for the lifts or boarding the bus, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: in general, I think as long as you ask nicely
- 21:05Speaker 1: and you don't barge into the queue, I've no issues
- 21:08Speaker 1: unless I'm also in a rush.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Um, good point, because this happened to me when I
- 21:13Speaker 1: was boarding a flight to, uh, to the UK and
- 21:17Speaker 1: it was a work flight. I was with my clients
- 21:19Speaker 1: and some other people, and this couple, OK, they were
- 21:23Speaker 1: also on the same flight, actually, they were also on
- 21:26Speaker 1: the same flight, and I know that there were some
- 21:29Speaker 1: delays in, um, I'm, I'm not sure why, actually, we
- 21:32Speaker 1: were running late for some reason or so. I don't
- 21:34Speaker 1: know why.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But anyway, um, we got there, we're going through the
- 21:37Speaker 1: security check. Security still seemed pretty calm, you know, and yeah, there,
- 21:42Speaker 1: there was no last call announcement just yet. And this
- 21:46Speaker 1: couple barged past us, tried to cut my client's queue basically,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and just put her back there and say, our flight
- 21:53Speaker 1: is leaving, our flight is leaving. Let's go first. She
- 21:56Speaker 1: did not ask nicely, yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: To which, you know, my client was very gracious because
- 22:00Speaker 1: we're all on the same flight. There's, we're already at
- 22:02Speaker 1: the security check where this is the only flight they're boarding.
- 22:06Speaker 1: There's no other flights in that area already, only the
- 22:09Speaker 1: security check for that flight, to which she stayed quite
- 22:11Speaker 1: cool about it, although I thought it was really rude, um,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but thankfully, the staff actually said, sorry, sir, ma'am, like,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know, you can't do this to other people because
- 22:20Speaker 1: we're all, they're all going on the same flight, so
- 22:22Speaker 1: please get back to the line.
- 22:23Speaker 1: To which I think they felt quite pricey and they
- 22:26Speaker 1: just quietly picked up their stuff and went back. But
- 22:29Speaker 1: I was like, why make a show of it, right? Like,
- 22:31Speaker 1: clearly we're all boarding the same flight and if I'm
- 22:34Speaker 1: here in the security check, chances are you're not going
- 22:37Speaker 1: to miss your flight. Yeah, they, they will let us through.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Anyway, we've got uh Jacob on the line right now. Jacob,
- 22:42Speaker 1: any such situation happened to you before?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Someone asked me to cut my queue. I was at, uh,
- 22:47Speaker 2: you know, Chingy show. I, I was at the toilets, right?
- 22:52Speaker 2: One person asked me to cut the queue because I
- 22:55Speaker 2: need to pee, but he needs to poo, and he
- 22:58Speaker 2: was last minute one to come poo once.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Oh my God.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So did you let him go?
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:04Speaker 1: OK, that's very kind of you. And you think he
- 23:07Speaker 1: was telling the truth, right? Yes.
- 23:08Speaker 2: He, he's not just watching his phone in the toilet
- 23:11Speaker 2: like my father does.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Talking about queue cutting. I know it can be a
- 23:15Speaker 1: very sensitive topic sometimes, but
- 23:17Speaker 1: When asked nicely, and if it's a really valid reason,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm sure any of us would allow someone to cut
- 23:23Speaker 1: your queue, right? Yeah, it happened to me once more.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I don't know why I always witness this, but um
- 23:29Speaker 1: this was a chill one. I was at a coffee cafe.
- 23:33Speaker 1: This is a cafe, and I saw this dude run through. OK,
- 23:37Speaker 1: so I was already in line. I ordered my, my
- 23:39Speaker 1: coffee already. This guy ran in.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And um before I could complete my order, he said,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I'm in such a big rush. Do
- 23:47Speaker 1: you think I can just grab an order first? I
- 23:50Speaker 1: was already halfway, right, ordering. So I said, you know what, yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 1: you can take my order, but just process his first,
- 23:56Speaker 1: you know, in that case, because I wasn't in such
- 23:58Speaker 1: a big rush, to which he was very grateful. I
- 24:00Speaker 1: think maybe he was late for a meeting or something
- 24:01Speaker 1: or maybe he woke up late and you desperately need
- 24:04Speaker 1: caffeine to start your day, to which, bro, I say
- 24:06Speaker 1: I understand you 100%.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Um, more messages coming through here, and you didn't leave
- 24:11Speaker 1: your full name, but you go by XR and you say, hey,
- 24:15Speaker 1: good morning, Sonia. Um, this happened over at a theme park. Now,
- 24:19Speaker 1: I won't say which one, but, um, this particular theme park, yes,
- 24:23Speaker 1: pretty popular. A lot of people queuing up, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and especially during holiday season, um, people can get really
- 24:28Speaker 1: cranky standing in line.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Um, unfortunately, my kid wasn't feeling so well, but he really,
- 24:34Speaker 1: really wanted to sit on one of the kids' rides
- 24:36Speaker 1: before we made our way home, and we decided to
- 24:38Speaker 1: just call it off halfway, to which I think one
- 24:41Speaker 1: of the families in front of us noticed and said, hey,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you want to just let him go first? I mean,
- 24:45Speaker 1: it's just a kid's ride. It's not like Battlestar Galactica
- 24:48Speaker 1: or something, you know. So it was, um,
- 24:50Speaker 1: A really kind gesture, and I really hope that in
- 24:53Speaker 1: the future, I can repay the kindness to this family. Oh,
- 24:57Speaker 1: that's really sweet. I mean, look, when it comes to kids,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I'm sure in the future, maybe I will know, maybe
- 25:03Speaker 1: I won't. I don't know yet. But um it can
- 25:07Speaker 1: be hard to also manage, right, because people get cranky
- 25:10Speaker 1: and tired and
- 25:12Speaker 1: You know, it's, it's the kind of thing where you
- 25:14Speaker 1: just want everyone to have fun, but at the end
- 25:16Speaker 1: of the day, I think the adults need a full
- 25:18Speaker 1: day to recover from that too, if I'm not wrong, right?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your calls, your messages. I mean,
- 25:23Speaker 1: lots coming through about queue cutting and if you're asked nicely,
- 25:27Speaker 1: will you allow someone to cut your queue? I have
- 25:30Speaker 1: to say, today's prize has to go to Jacob. Jacob,
- 25:35Speaker 1: he told me a hilarious story and he even outed
- 25:37Speaker 1: your dad for his, um, toilet behavior.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Which was related to the topic, OK? So, um, go
- 25:45Speaker 1: listen to, uh, me listening to Spotify for the recap
- 25:47Speaker 1: if you would like. But you're walking away with a
- 25:49Speaker 1: $100 Lazada shopping experience so enjoy their 66 sale that's
- 25:53Speaker 1: happening tomorrow officially, but they're already running some great promotions
- 25:57Speaker 1: and sales for everyone.
- 25:58Speaker 1: So if you want to go traveling, you know, you
- 26:00Speaker 1: need gadgets, you need fashion, beauty, whatever it is that
- 26:03Speaker 1: you need, you can even share this with your family, Jacob.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Log on to Lazada_SG to find out more. Now, like
- 26:09Speaker 1: I said earlier, Singapore's culinary scene has two new stars.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I want to say congratulations to Chef Cheng.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And also chef Stanton Wong. I hope I'm saying your
- 26:22Speaker 1: names right, I didn't butcher it. So chef Cheng Yen
- 26:26Speaker 1: P was crowned champion at the Global Pastry Chef's Challenge,
- 26:29Speaker 1: while Chef Wong placed 3rd in the global chef's Challenge category.
- 26:34Speaker 1: So I think Cheng also received the best cake award
- 26:37Speaker 1: in her category. That's quite crazy. I mean, the finals
- 26:40Speaker 1: took place um around my wedding weekend, actually May 16th
- 26:43Speaker 1: to 19th.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Um, this was at the World Chefs Congress and Expo
- 26:47Speaker 1: at the International Convention Center Wales. This is in the UK.
- 26:52Speaker 1: So I think about 40 finalist teams from various different
- 26:54Speaker 1: countries competed across a lot of different categories. So, for,
- 26:58Speaker 1: for Singapore, I mean, we are a small city-state, country, right?
- 27:02Speaker 1: And we love to see ourselves represented on the big stage. Um,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I believe one of the winners is actually a junior
- 27:09Speaker 1: sous chef over at the Western Singapore.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So, uh, got some experience over there and some of
- 27:14Speaker 1: their creations are just incredible. You have to go take
- 27:17Speaker 1: a full read. Um, I think Cheng's pastry category focused
- 27:21Speaker 1: on technical dessert work, so they had to create chocolate
- 27:24Speaker 1: and sugar showpieces, plated based on a theme.
- 27:28Speaker 1: So it was very, very impressive um dragon that was
- 27:32Speaker 1: built up. I don't know how they did it, but
- 27:35Speaker 1: it really looks like something out of Game of Thrones
- 27:37Speaker 1: or something. It looks incredible. OK, it looks incredible. So,
- 27:40Speaker 1: please read the full story on 8 Days Eat. They've
- 27:43Speaker 1: done a really good coverage on them and uh pictures
- 27:46Speaker 1: included as well. So congratulations. Two new shining stars returning
- 27:51Speaker 1: back as heroes to Singapore, so we can't wait. Maybe
- 27:54Speaker 1: we can get them on our show or something and.
- 27:57Speaker 1: They can teach us a thing or two, especially for Joakim.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He doesn't even know how to make instant noodles in
- 28:03Speaker 1: the kitchen, OK? He should tell you his stories about
- 28:06Speaker 1: how he ruined the simplest dishes. Now, once again, like
- 28:10Speaker 1: I said, appalling behavior from tourists, especially at beautiful attractions.
- 28:15Speaker 1: such as Nara Park in Japan. OK, so, you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: I've never been to Nara Park. I've seen tons of
- 28:21Speaker 1: videos though. I've got friends who've been to Nara Park before. Um, I,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I do hear that some of the deer can be quite, uh, mischievous,
- 28:28Speaker 1: and they, they already know that the humans are there
- 28:30Speaker 1: to feed them and love them, right? But a video
- 28:33Speaker 1: has gone viral of a woman allegedly sitting on a
- 28:38Speaker 1: deer in Nara Park, and not just that, this deer.
- 28:41Speaker 1: had been injured prior to this. So it's, um, it's
- 28:45Speaker 1: leg is actually injured and it can't move properly. This
- 28:49Speaker 1: woman goes, it can be ridden, it can be ridden. Apparently,
- 28:52Speaker 1: she just decided to, um, sit on it. So after
- 28:56Speaker 1: the deer escaped her, she chased it down and she
- 28:58Speaker 1: sat on it the second time and even she, she
- 29:01Speaker 1: even started bouncing on his back. She only left when
- 29:04Speaker 1: the deer finally swung its antlers at her out of
- 29:07Speaker 1: defense and the volunteer said, Yeah, this, this just injured.
- 29:10Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 29:11Speaker 1: And volunteers were very furious and heartbroken to see a
- 29:14Speaker 1: tourist treating an injured animal in such a disrespectful way. Um,
- 29:18Speaker 1: and you know what, it doesn't even matter if the
- 29:21Speaker 1: animal's injured or not, whether or not it had a
- 29:23Speaker 1: prior injury, you should not be sitting on them. They're
- 29:26Speaker 1: not your toys, right? Um, the Nara deer, by the way,
- 29:30Speaker 1: are protected under Japan's cultural properties protection law. It is
- 29:33Speaker 1: a national, natural monument. They're protected, like, you know, like
- 29:37Speaker 1: UNESCO heritage, that kind of thing, they're protected, OK.
- 29:40Speaker 1: So the authorities are very mad. They say this is
- 29:42Speaker 1: highly inappropriate. I believe that there will be um some
- 29:46Speaker 1: punishment if they can actually identify this person.
- 29:49Speaker 1: But, um, according to the news channels, they're saying people
- 29:53Speaker 1: need to be more aware that such actions can harm animals,
- 29:57Speaker 1: and they also flagged other risks because you can also
- 30:00Speaker 1: contract other diseases, right, through direct contact with deer or
- 30:04Speaker 1: wild animals, but of course, this woman has been condemned online,
- 30:08Speaker 1: she's been ripped online. netizens are just condemning, although they
- 30:12Speaker 1: did not actually reveal which country she was from, and
- 30:15Speaker 1: it's quite hard to identify actually.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Um, video is not exactly, doesn't give the clearest view
- 30:21Speaker 1: of her face either. Anyway, please, let's, uh, let's just
- 30:25Speaker 1: behave while we're overseas. I don't want to be blacklisted
- 30:27Speaker 1: from a country. Oh, I've been quite a busy one
- 30:30Speaker 1: this hour. Um, I've been on and off Zoom and
- 30:34Speaker 1: my show because the kid Leroy coming to Singapore very soon.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So we decided to have a little chat with him,
- 30:39Speaker 1: catch him while he's on the road, and we're
- 30:41Speaker 1: Very excited to welcome him to Singapore. It's happening so soon. I,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I hope you managed to get your tickets. This is
- 30:47Speaker 1: happening on the first of July, so you can still
- 30:49Speaker 1: try and sneak your tickets in, but we wanted to
- 30:51Speaker 1: get a bit of an exclusive peek into who the
- 30:53Speaker 1: Kid Leroy is and his life and what to expect.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And I managed to ask him quite a, quite a
- 30:58Speaker 1: lot of stuff actually. We spent some time chatting.
- 31:01Speaker 1: And looking back at his debut work and thinking how
- 31:04Speaker 1: much he's evolved over the years, although he's only what, 22, 23,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and um, you know, his view on love, he sings
- 31:10Speaker 1: a lot about it and so on. So, um, do
- 31:12Speaker 1: catch it. We'll be airing that interview next week. Don't
- 31:15Speaker 1: go anywhere. And uh the solo show continues next week.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I hope you're enjoying it just as much as I am.
- 31:21Speaker 1: While Joakim is still away in Bhutan, he's been sending
- 31:23Speaker 1: me updates every single day without me asking.
- 31:26Speaker 1: And I, I, I asked him like, hey, am I
- 31:28Speaker 1: really your only friend? You update me when you land.
- 31:31Speaker 1: You update me about what you're doing and what you're
