- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to a Girl's
- 0:23Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm
- 0:26Speaker 1: a longtime Homemark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:30Speaker 1: On today's episode, we are reviewing Double Scoop, which originally
- 0:33Speaker 1: premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, August twenty third,
- 0:36Speaker 1: but you can currently stream it on the Hallmark Plus
- 0:39Speaker 1: streaming platform. Y'all. If you're not on Hallmark Plus, you
- 0:43Speaker 1: need to head to Instagram because they are dropping promo
- 0:46Speaker 1: codes galore. I saw you shared last night. There was
- 0:50Speaker 1: one two months for two dollars. Get on that. Hopefully
- 0:54Speaker 1: they continue to drop promos through the countdown to Christmas
- 0:56Speaker 1: season to get people over to that platform. I think
- 0:59Speaker 1: that is gonna come in clutch because we don't have
- 1:03Speaker 1: Peacock anymore. Yeah, so you don't have like Next Day streaming.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Get your Hallmark Plus subscriptions now. I gotta tell you
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm still using Friendly as well. Really, yeah, because I
- 1:16Speaker 1: like that sort of where you can like go in
- 1:18Speaker 1: and record it after it's aired and then I can
- 1:21Speaker 1: fast forward through it. Yeah. But to me, my question is,
- 1:25Speaker 1: why would you just not watch it on Hallmark Plus
- 1:27Speaker 1: without commercials at that point, because this is usually the
- 1:31Speaker 1: same day. Like so if it's like Saturday night and
- 1:33Speaker 1: I want to go and watch that movie and it
- 1:36Speaker 1: has already aired, got a Hallmark channel, then I can
- 1:39Speaker 1: just go over to Friendly and press record and then
- 1:41Speaker 1: I can like zip through it. Yeah, got it. That's
- 1:43Speaker 1: seventy two hour look back feature is pretty spectacular to
- 1:48Speaker 1: just record anything that's been on in the last and
- 1:50Speaker 1: seventy two hours. I want to still complain. I hate
- 1:52Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus's user Yeah, there's no fast forwarding or functions.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Cannotstand it. I can. I can only do it if
- 2:01Speaker 1: I use the Apple TV app Remote Remote app on
- 2:05Speaker 1: my phone is the only way I'm able to fast
- 2:07Speaker 1: forward in remind and then I forget sometimes and I
- 2:11Speaker 1: go to like Boo boo boop, and it just like
- 2:13Speaker 1: zooms all the way back. It's just all addingwhere like
- 2:16Speaker 1: just a holiday.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I hear you, I hear you. Speaking of Instagram, we'd

- 3:18Speaker 1: get a Starbucks for five hours. Freaking hot tea cost
- 3:21Speaker 1: me four seventy five. Oh I know, hot tea, a
- 3:23Speaker 1: tea bag, I know. Don't even get me started. I
- 3:26Speaker 1: have so many problems with it, but I believe I
- 3:28Speaker 1: have a small addiction as well. So look, we all
- 3:32Speaker 1: have our things, but we My husband is not a
- 3:34Speaker 1: coffee or tea drinker. He does not. Starbucks is not
- 3:37Speaker 1: his thing. But we were out and we had ordered
- 3:40Speaker 1: I don't know, and he was like, that drink costs
- 3:42Speaker 1: seven dollars. I was like, I know, it's highway robbery.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It is, but it is also self care and it
- 3:47Speaker 1: makes me feel good. Yeah, I know. So hopefully our
- 3:50Speaker 1: Patreon makes you feel good. Guys. Yeah, go over there
- 3:52Speaker 1: patreon dot com slash Megan and Wendy. I will leave
- 3:54Speaker 1: a link in our show notes. I don't typically, but
- 3:58Speaker 1: I will ye now on because we would love to
- 4:01Speaker 1: have you over there. We certainly would. Let's start with
- 4:05Speaker 1: a synopsis of Double Scoop. Nora and James were once
- 4:09Speaker 1: the dream team at a top New York ad agency,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and now they're locked in a frosty competition for the
- 4:16Speaker 1: sweetest client of all, a small town dairy farm that
- 4:19Speaker 1: churns out the most delectable ice cream in the country. Country.
- 4:26Speaker 1: A lot to say about the ice cream production, or
- 4:29Speaker 1: lack thereof, in this movie, Okay. Double Scoop was directed
- 4:32Speaker 1: by Peter Sulvan, who has over fifty directing credits. His
- 4:35Speaker 1: past work includes the twenty twenty four Netflix Holiday film
- 4:39Speaker 1: The Married Gentleman, starring Chad Michael Murray. He also directed
- 4:42Speaker 1: some darker thrillers like Trapped in Her Dorm Room and
- 4:45Speaker 1: You Better Watch Out. Have you seen The Merry Gentleman? No,
- 4:49Speaker 1: that's yeah, I watched it. That's the one with Chad
- 4:51Speaker 1: Michael Murray. He's like the male Exotic Dancer. It's like
- 4:56Speaker 1: magic Mike. I didn't hate it. I liked it. I
- 4:59Speaker 1: kind of dogged I remember when it came out last year,
- 5:01Speaker 1: but I did not hate it. The script for Double
- 5:05Speaker 1: Scoop was written by Kara J. Russell, who has fourteen
- 5:07Speaker 1: writing credits. Her work includes the twenty twenty Hallmark movie
- 5:11Speaker 1: A Valentine's Match starring Luke McFarlane and Bethany joy Lands.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh that's a joint I've never seen, have you. Oh
- 5:18Speaker 1: That's a good combo, along with several other films that
- 5:22Speaker 1: have aired on competing networks. M Taylor cole star says Nora.
- 5:28Speaker 1: She was last seen on Hallmark in the twenty twenty
- 5:29Speaker 1: four movie A Reason for the Season, and she also
- 5:32Speaker 1: appeared as herself in this year's Christmas at Sea Hallmark
- 5:35Speaker 1: cruise documentary. I gotta say I have a soft spot
- 5:37Speaker 1: for Taylor Cole me too. And if you don't know,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's because she shared a story. Did it ever actually
- 5:46Speaker 1: make it in the documentary Christmas at Sea or was
- 5:50Speaker 1: it just the press stuff where she shared the story.
- 5:53Speaker 1: There's a moment where the Vermier mother went over to
- 5:59Speaker 1: her and talked about being a cancer survivor. Well, she
- 6:03Speaker 1: wasn't a cancer survivor. I don't think. I think she
- 6:07Speaker 1: carries the breast cancer gen double mass dexime, right, right right,
- 6:12Speaker 1: And so she spoke to Taylor because Taylor's best friends
- 6:17Speaker 1: had passed. But yes, she talked about in the press
- 6:22Speaker 1: about everyone's singing Happy Birthday to her friends. Oh past
- 6:27Speaker 1: it had it been hard. Ryan McPartlin co stars as James.
- 6:30Speaker 1: He has sixty nine acting credits to his name, and
- 6:32Speaker 1: most recently appeared on Hallmark in A Very Vermont Christmas
- 6:38Speaker 1: from twenty twenty four. Fans might also recognize him from
- 6:41Speaker 1: the Nikki Deloche movie A Kind of Magic, which also
- 6:45Speaker 1: goes by an alternate title, You Cast a Spell on Me?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Is that the movie that we love so much? Oh?
- 6:52Speaker 1: I don't love that movie. It's where she's like the witch. Yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I love that. That's the one that yeah it's so bad,
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's good. Yeah, I mean I don't hate it. I
- 7:01Speaker 1: mean I kind of enjoyed it. I may put it
- 7:04Speaker 1: on my fall rewatch this season. I thought it was
- 7:08Speaker 1: real cute. It was bad movie, but bad in a
- 7:10Speaker 1: good way. My daughter just texted me and all caps,
- 7:13Speaker 1: guess who's engaged? And I literally could not. She has
- 7:16Speaker 1: not responded. But who her school friend? Who could she
- 7:20Speaker 1: talk She's fifteen years old. Who could she possibly be
- 7:25Speaker 1: talking about at school? Girlfriend? You cannot send this text
- 7:28Speaker 1: and then not You need to talk to her about
- 7:30Speaker 1: text etiquette about like don't send a capped, all caps
- 7:35Speaker 1: message and then no follow up. Yeah, Like I need
- 7:38Speaker 1: to see the bubbles of you typing. Yeah, moving on.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Elisa Donovan also plays Nora's boss, Alexandra, best known for
- 7:44Speaker 1: her iconic role as Amber in the nineteen ninety five
- 7:48Speaker 1: film Clueless. Alisa has fifty eight acting credits, including roles
- 7:52Speaker 1: in two Hallmark movies, both from the early two thousands.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Is she on your favorite radio show anymore? Yeah? She
- 8:00Speaker 1: lives in San Francisco, so yes, she's on. She's on regularly.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Did she talk about this movie at all? I don't
- 8:10Speaker 1: recall if she did, I don't. The radio show we're
- 8:13Speaker 1: referring to is Jeff Lewis Live. I'm serious. Yeah, she's
- 8:16Speaker 1: on like every six weeks or so. Patrick muldoon plays
- 8:20Speaker 1: James's boss Everett, with ninety six acting credits. His best
- 8:25Speaker 1: known role is the cult sci fi film Starship Troopers,
- 8:30Speaker 1: as well as major stints on Days of Our Lives
- 8:33Speaker 1: and the primetime drama melrose Place. Jacqueline Collier plays bestie Shannon,
- 8:38Speaker 1: with twenty one acting credits. Jacks has appeared in Hallmark
- 8:40Speaker 1: projects like Love Fallen Order in twenty nineteen and the
- 8:43Speaker 1: holiday film Fit for Christmas in twenty twenty two. She's
- 8:46Speaker 1: also a familiar voice to fans as a recurring contributor
- 8:49Speaker 1: to The Deck, the Hallmark podcast Okay, Who is It?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce come on it? Rumor until
- 8:59Speaker 1: I see them like walking down the Aisle In a
- 9:01Speaker 1: photo page six NBC News Newsweek e News Out Magazine,
- 9:07Speaker 1: Taylor Swift announces engagement in an Instagram post. What actually
- 9:12Speaker 1: her instance interests? Thinking through your English teacher and your
- 9:15Speaker 1: gym teacher are getting married?
- 9:17Speaker 2: Who?
- 9:17Speaker 1: We got to talk about this on Pop Culture Club
- 9:19Speaker 1: because I had some thoughts. Speaking of Patreon, y'all got
- 9:23Speaker 1: to listen to our Patreon where we break down our
- 9:26Speaker 1: thoughts because we are talking about the Taylor Swift episode.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Shanna Pierce plays Anne Marie Darlington. Shanta has eleven acting
- 9:32Speaker 1: credits and has a previously appeared on Hallmark in the
- 9:35Speaker 1: twenty fifteen movie Christmas Land. Tim Abell plays Matthew Darlington.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Tim has over one hundred acting credits and has appeared
- 9:43Speaker 1: in everything from CSI and CIS and JAG. Sophia shikari
- 9:48Speaker 1: In plays Josie. Double Scoop marks her fourth on screen
- 9:52Speaker 1: acting credit. Hey, let's take a quick break and we're
- 9:55Speaker 1: gonna come right back with our first impressions of Double Scoop. Hey, Wendy,
- 10:07Speaker 1: what was your first impression of Double Scoop? Well, Nora
- 10:10Speaker 1: doesn't hate sweets. Nora is terrified of what dairy might
- 10:14Speaker 1: do to her. If you know, you can know what's sweet. No,
- 10:20Speaker 1: this girl is lactose intolerant. My first impression is as
- 10:24Speaker 1: the self appointed non dairy rep. I was waiting for
- 10:26Speaker 1: a joke about not being able to milk an oat
- 10:29Speaker 1: from the dairy farmers. That would have been funny. Missed opportunity.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I mean, is this a nightmare come true for you
- 10:38Speaker 1: if you were working in PR and they're like, Megan,
- 10:41Speaker 1: we want to put you on this like ice cream brand,
- 10:43Speaker 1: or you're like, I don't know what to do you
- 10:44Speaker 1: guys Meg For those who don't know, Meghan doesn't eat dairy.
- 10:48Speaker 1: So yeah, what we can do hard things. If the
- 10:53Speaker 1: paycheck is payan, we can do the hard thing. That's right,
- 10:57Speaker 1: that's right. What did you like about this movie? Okay,
- 11:00Speaker 1: so double Scoop coming off of Providence Falls, right, Yeah. Yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 1: for fans and myself, it does check the like cozy
- 11:12Speaker 1: summertime box. Sure, we get farm animals, we get big
- 11:16Speaker 1: town Festival, we get rival X. They're not X's I guess,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but like you know a little bit ex employees. Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 1: so you know like it it's Hallmark comfort food. Sure
- 11:30Speaker 1: some some weekends, I really want to lean into Hallmark
- 11:33Speaker 1: comfort So I it checked that box. Yeah, I totally
- 11:38Speaker 1: agree that. I think it is very classically Hallmark. It
- 11:41Speaker 1: does the things that we want a classic Hallmark movie
- 11:44Speaker 1: to do. The pieces are there, the farm animals were cute.
- 11:49Speaker 1: It checks all the boxes, like you said. With that said, yes,
- 11:54Speaker 1: this is not like my wish, but I do prefer
- 11:58Speaker 1: me personally when stretches in that box a little bit.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So this is like, like I said, coming off of
- 12:07Speaker 1: Providence Falls, which was real different and two mixed reviews,
- 12:12Speaker 1: this is real safe. This is company for the viewer
- 12:14Speaker 1: and the creator m h for sure. And I did
- 12:18Speaker 1: look at Reddit after I had written in my notes
- 12:20Speaker 1: and the to your point, the reviews on Reddit were
- 12:24Speaker 1: very complimentary, because I think you're right. Sometimes the classic
- 12:28Speaker 1: Hallmark watcher wants wants what they know. Mm hmm. They
- 12:31Speaker 1: don't always want to be stretched. Sure. Sometimes I feel
- 12:34Speaker 1: like that too. Yeah, of course it's the reason why
- 12:36Speaker 1: we rewatch Gilmore Girls exactly, not because we're waiting for
- 12:40Speaker 1: like the twist. We already know exactly Rory's going to
- 12:44Speaker 1: move into the poolhouse. But Rory's going to move into
- 12:48Speaker 1: the Poolhouse. Guys, if you guys are not watching Hallmark,
- 12:50Speaker 1: or if you're not watching Gilmore Girls on Hallmark, you're
- 12:52Speaker 1: a missing out. You are a missing out on an
- 12:56Speaker 1: incredible show. And I see you redditors watch it wasn't
- 12:59Speaker 1: open mind and people on Reader are saying terrible things
- 13:03Speaker 1: about Gilmore Girls, and it really makes me mad. Okay,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I want to just go back for a second. Though.
- 13:10Speaker 1: When I'm talking about like Hallmark stretching the box or
- 13:14Speaker 1: doing things that really stand out, I can't help but
- 13:18Speaker 1: think of last summer. Last summer they put out some
- 13:20Speaker 1: incredible movies June Bug, The Magic of Lemon Drops, My
- 13:24Speaker 1: Dreams of You like I remember the titles of them. Unfortunately,
- 13:30Speaker 1: this movie plays so safe next summer, I'm not gonna
- 13:34Speaker 1: remember Double Scoop unfortunately. I let me just say Taylor
- 13:38Speaker 1: Cole is so warm and lovely on screen. She came
- 13:43Speaker 1: through that way on Christmas at Sea. As we discussed.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I just find her so easy to watch on screen.
- 13:50Speaker 1: She just comes across as like a weighted blanket of
- 13:54Speaker 1: an actress. A weighted blanket of an actress. That's a
- 13:58Speaker 1: nice compliment, I think. I think so now I want
- 14:02Speaker 1: to I just scrolled back to look at the last
- 14:04Speaker 1: movie she did, A Reason for a Season from twenty
- 14:07Speaker 1: twenty four. We did not review that movie. No. Well,
- 14:11Speaker 1: one thing I really liked in this movie, and this
- 14:13Speaker 1: is really double tapping into a plot point, but I
- 14:18Speaker 1: like the business pitches when they did their pitches to
- 14:22Speaker 1: the Darlington's interesting. Wait, I have a lot of notes.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm doing the time out. I have a
- 14:29Speaker 1: lot of notes. Do I think did I yell out loud?
- 14:34Speaker 1: What in the DIY is this pitch? Yes? I did.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But you had good ideas like her subscription service terrible idea.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Do you know how expensive subscription ice cream is? It
- 14:49Speaker 1: is not affordable, Like this is not going to like
- 14:52Speaker 1: promote this ice cream brand into a stratosphere. His way
- 14:57Speaker 1: better to get ice his their ice cream into ballparks. Yes,
- 15:01Speaker 1: very smart, agree, But also there is the the what's
- 15:07Speaker 1: the word? What's the word I'm looking for? It's not custom.
- 15:10Speaker 1: The unique is not the word I'm looking for either,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but we're going to go with it, like the unique
- 15:15Speaker 1: ice cream flavor. There is a crowd looking for that
- 15:17Speaker 1: that will pay for it, which is why you can
- 15:19Speaker 1: ship seas candy ice cream to your house, which it
- 15:21Speaker 1: is why you fifty dollars Like no pints of ice cream.
- 15:25Speaker 1: That is not sustainable. That is not a sustainable business
- 15:28Speaker 1: average ice cream. But have you bought fifty dollars worth?
- 15:32Speaker 1: I know you bought it as a gift for somebody
- 15:34Speaker 1: as a gift. No, I don't order it for myself,
- 15:36Speaker 1: But then my parents went and reordered it. Of course
- 15:38Speaker 1: I have looked into that for to give a gift
- 15:41Speaker 1: to you, and I was like, that's ridiculous. Fifty dollars
- 15:43Speaker 1: for four pints of ice cream? Is it is ridiculous? Ridiculous? Okay,
- 15:48Speaker 1: back to the business pitches. What I liked is that
- 15:51Speaker 1: we actually got there. That is the purpose that they
- 15:54Speaker 1: were visiting the Darlington's at their farm, and then you know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: things go sideways, as they do in these Hallmark movies.
- 16:02Speaker 1: But we finally got back to the pitches, and I
- 16:04Speaker 1: was excited. I don't know why. Maybe it's because like
- 16:08Speaker 1: I like to see like marketing ideas and yeah like
- 16:13Speaker 1: that personally, so I was. I was satisfied that they
- 16:20Speaker 1: closed the loop on that part. But with that said,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and here's my negative, Like I thought their pitches were terrible,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and they weren't terrible. I thought Nora's pitch was terrible
- 16:29Speaker 1: and I thought her actual like visuals were dreadful. Small
- 16:35Speaker 1: Like I liked the Patrick muldoon and Lisa Donovan throwback pairing.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I liked the most. The Bosses feels like a little
- 16:40Speaker 1: like stunt casting, right, like you're gonna watch this because
- 16:43Speaker 1: because they're in it, and for someone of the nineties,
- 16:48Speaker 1: it scratches at it for me, even though it does
- 16:50Speaker 1: remind me of my own age a little bit. That's
- 16:53Speaker 1: all I have to say with you know what I
- 16:54Speaker 1: really liked. I liked the animals in this movie. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: loved the animals in this movie. I'm really into cow
- 17:06Speaker 1: baby farm animals. Yes, I think it's because you and
- 17:12Speaker 1: I have grown up in southern California and we don't
- 17:15Speaker 1: have access to like that kind of lifestyle. I used
- 17:19Speaker 1: to go to summer camp on a ranch. Yeah, they
- 17:22Speaker 1: had they had these like tests you could take to
- 17:26Speaker 1: like level up, and I took the greenhorn test, which
- 17:29Speaker 1: was like they had like a writing test. All the
- 17:31Speaker 1: greenhorns like the farm animals, like understanding, like their care.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And when I was there, a goat had babies and
- 17:38Speaker 1: we used to they had like the end of the week,
- 17:40Speaker 1: they had like a show and you would like show
- 17:42Speaker 1: an animal like you were at the county Fair, I guess,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and I had to show a calf one year. That's exciting.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I love the Yeah, I've never been around like animals
- 17:51Speaker 1: like that, except you like view them like at the
- 17:56Speaker 1: county Fair. I've never had like like test them.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Ever, No, you know, horses scare me, do they? They're
- 18:03Speaker 1: just big animals. They are big animals. Animals too. Oh yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 1: My my calf that I had to show was an ornery,
- 18:09Speaker 1: unpleasant calf. He was not interested in following the rules.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Have you ridden a horse? Nope? Never interesting scares me?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I can.
- 18:17Speaker 1: There me a couple funny little scenes that I thought
- 18:21Speaker 1: were really funny. The moment that Nora says there's a
- 18:25Speaker 1: bug on me. I instantly thought of you, totally thought
- 18:29Speaker 1: of you though. It was very funny. This is kind
- 18:34Speaker 1: of a sandwich compliment here. The firefly scene was Did
- 18:41Speaker 1: I steal it from you? No? I mean yes, but
- 18:44Speaker 1: that's not what my reaction is. It's so bad. This
- 18:48Speaker 1: is CG. I snow, it's terrible. I can't even believe
- 18:52Speaker 1: there's any part of this scene that falls into your
- 18:54Speaker 1: likes because it is so distracted. Have you ever seen
- 18:56Speaker 1: a firefly? I have? Actually, First of all, they move
- 18:59Speaker 1: much lower than that, Like, get your CG. I write,
- 19:01Speaker 1: these things are zipping all over the screen.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I spent this summer in uh Oklahoma one time, and
- 19:07Speaker 1: there were a ton of flats and we would catch
- 19:09Speaker 1: them yeah, so that seems kind of cruel now that
- 19:12Speaker 1: I'm saying it out loud. It's so funny that you
- 19:14Speaker 1: say that because I went to Arkansas for a week
- 19:16Speaker 1: in the summer once and they had fireflies and there
- 19:20Speaker 1: were photos of me like we were catching them like
- 19:22Speaker 1: in our hands. I mean, I guess the scene, like
- 19:27Speaker 1: on its face is like cute and magical, but there
- 19:30Speaker 1: were so many fireflies it was like like water. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 1: they're bugs. Yeah, here's my compliment, sandwich though the countryside itself, gorgeous, greeneries, beautiful,
- 19:45Speaker 1: charming homes, big trees, like I loved all that. Sure,
- 19:49Speaker 1: Alabama's pretty. Yeah, that's where they filmed this, right, Alabama. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: But like the whole like just a bazillion fireflies was
- 19:57Speaker 1: too much for me. Did you like anything else? That's it?
- 20:01Speaker 1: One final like I like the line if you want
- 20:03Speaker 1: someone to sit beside you make sure they know the
- 20:04Speaker 1: seats open. Agree. I wrote it down in my notes.
- 20:08Speaker 1: It didn't make my final notes, but you are correct.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I thought that was put it on a bumper stick.
- 20:13Speaker 1: H huh. My final link is the lovely Jacqueline Collier
- 20:18Speaker 1: as Shannon. First of all, I loved her Grammar nerd
- 20:22Speaker 1: moment at the very beginning talking subjects versus object really
- 20:24Speaker 1: spoke to me. But I think she gives great best
- 20:27Speaker 1: friend energy and you're gonna hear her talk more about
- 20:32Speaker 1: her projects, her roles, this role, and the moment that
- 20:38Speaker 1: she was sad didn't make it to the final cut.
- 20:41Speaker 1: We'll be back with the rest of our thoughts on
- 20:44Speaker 1: Double Scoop after this chat with Jacqueline Collier. We are
- 20:57Speaker 1: joined today by the lovely the fun one of our
- 21:00Speaker 1: new best friends, Jacqueline Collier, co star of the latest
- 21:05Speaker 1: Hallmark movie, Double Scoop. Jacqueline, you have a deep Hallmark resume.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I mean you're kind of like the og Hallmark podcaster,
- 21:13Speaker 1: having co hosted Bubbly Sash Back in What Feels Like
- 21:17Speaker 1: The Dark Ages twenty nineteen to twenty twenty one.
- 21:20Speaker 2: This Dark Ages, right, But this isn't your.
- 21:24Speaker 1: First Hallmark movie. Even you were in love Fallen Order
- 21:28Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen with Aaron Khill, Trevor Donovan, and Gregory Harrison.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I have a real crash on Gregory Harrison.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Oh, he is a very handsome man. We didn't work
- 21:38Speaker 2: together directly, but then we spend a little time together
- 21:40Speaker 2: at rama and drama. I should say he spent a
- 21:42Speaker 2: little time with my mom, not it wasn't. I don't
- 21:45Speaker 2: think it was flirtatious because he's married. She's not, though,
- 21:48Speaker 2: so hey.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I love that for your mom. You were also in
- 21:53Speaker 1: for Christmas CBS twenty twenty two holiday movie with Amanda
- 21:56Speaker 1: Klutes and Paul Green. We also knew you because you
- 22:00Speaker 1: are a regular contributor on Deck the Hallmark. How did
- 22:04Speaker 1: that partnership come to be your work with Deck the Hallmark?
- 22:07Speaker 2: Oh? So, Deck the Hallmark. We I became friends with
- 22:12Speaker 2: them when they came to New York. This is even
- 22:15Speaker 2: pre Bubbly Sash officially being a part of Hallmark. They
- 22:19Speaker 2: came to New York to go on Good Morning America,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and Shan and I my co hosts for Bubbly Sash,
- 22:24Speaker 2: we messaged them because we were friendly back and forth,
- 22:27Speaker 2: and we were like, do you guys want to meet
- 22:29Speaker 2: up hang out? We live in New York And they said, yes,
- 22:33Speaker 2: we love that. What if we record an episode? So
- 22:35Speaker 2: we went to their hotel room and we sat on
- 22:38Speaker 2: their beds in a very non shady way. Those guys
- 22:42Speaker 2: are incredible, And I remember that it was me and
- 22:44Speaker 2: Panda on one of the beds, and Shall and Dan
- 22:46Speaker 2: and brand on another. And once we got there, we
- 22:49Speaker 2: like brought Champagne through the Bubbly Sash and they were like, hey,
- 22:53Speaker 2: we just realized we just invited you guys to our
- 22:55Speaker 2: hotel room. Is this weird? And we were like, Oh, actually,
- 22:57Speaker 2: it's not weird at all. This is gonna be a
- 22:59Speaker 2: fun So we recorded with them then, and then of
- 23:01Speaker 2: course like stayed in touch over the years, and then
- 23:04Speaker 2: when Hallmark discontinued not only Bubbly Sish but having an
- 23:09Speaker 2: official podcast that Dick, the Hallmark guys were like, we'll
- 23:12Speaker 2: tike you it.
- 23:14Speaker 1: That's so nice. I love that they just absorbed you.
- 23:17Speaker 2: They just absorbed me.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well, talk a little bit about your experience on Bubbly Shash.
- 23:21Speaker 1: What was that experience? Like, form my a Hallmark podcaster
- 23:25Speaker 1: who has no affiliation with Hallmark, I have so many
- 23:28Speaker 1: questions about what it's like to be an official Hallmark podcast.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I think okay, it was first of all, by and large,
- 23:37Speaker 2: it was just really fun. It was great to get
- 23:40Speaker 2: to have access to the talent and to be a
- 23:42Speaker 2: part of the community, and we got to record in
- 23:45Speaker 2: the New York office pre COVID, so it was such
- 23:49Speaker 2: a joy and we were welcomed in with such enthusiasm.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I do think that the other side of that coin
- 23:54Speaker 2: is that we were Yes, we did interviews, which was
- 23:58Speaker 2: which was great and totally makes for a like an
- 24:02Speaker 2: internal podcast to do that as a promotional thing, but
- 24:04Speaker 2: we were also reviewing the movies, which I do think
- 24:08Speaker 2: if you're like part of the company, like we were
- 24:11Speaker 2: hired as freelancers, so we were outside contractors. But still
- 24:16Speaker 2: it feels a little strange because you I've never lied,
- 24:23Speaker 2: but I also would wasn't able to give my unfiltered opinion.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 24:26Speaker 2: The good thing is it's like I am a fan
- 24:28Speaker 2: of these movies. I can look at these movies for
- 24:31Speaker 2: the genre that they are and just find all the
- 24:33Speaker 2: fun and joy and then and I think it's really incredible.
- 24:37Speaker 2: As an actor myself, I find it to be really
- 24:39Speaker 2: incredible that they can put these movies together so quickly,
- 24:43Speaker 2: so honestly likes it's an incredible feat. But that was
- 24:46Speaker 2: interesting to sort of realize, like, oh, you're part of
- 24:52Speaker 2: this now. And I think if I was still working
- 24:55Speaker 2: for them, I would definitely suggest or whatever they do
- 24:59Speaker 2: in the podcasting realm to definitely lean into the promotion
- 25:03Speaker 2: the interviews bts rather than having a recap or review shop.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, I mean, and I think the fans love
- 25:11Speaker 1: that too. I mean, we get listeners who want to
- 25:14Speaker 1: hear the reviews, but there are definitely fans who want
- 25:17Speaker 1: access to the behind the scenes stuff, the actors, the tidbits,
- 25:21Speaker 1: like yeah, I think that's a really good idea. Why
- 25:24Speaker 1: aren't you pitching that for them?
- 25:25Speaker 2: I mean maybe now I want I'm like, come on, guys,
- 25:29Speaker 2: I think, oh no.
- 25:29Speaker 1: No, I'm their next big thing and I don't need
- 25:32Speaker 1: to have I don't need to be on a podcast.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Oh no, my gosh, No, I would love I would
- 25:36Speaker 2: love to podcast for them. I think the cool thing
- 25:39Speaker 2: about it now is we've seen that the Hallmark podcasting
- 25:43Speaker 2: podcasting community has grown exponentially, So I do wonder if
- 25:47Speaker 2: there's a part of Hallmark Channel. And this isn't not
- 25:50Speaker 2: any sort of authority, I'm just speculating that they're like,
- 25:52Speaker 2: we have all these podcasters out there who are doing it,
- 25:55Speaker 2: doing it well, have incredible followings, and we're not paying that, Like,
- 26:00Speaker 2: why why would it we?
- 26:01Speaker 1: Why would we?
- 26:02Speaker 2: Why would we? And you can also I think, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 2: if we're looking at you guys and Deck, the Hallmark
- 26:10Speaker 2: and hallmarkies, the fans have trust and faith in you
- 26:13Speaker 2: because they know you aren't in the company payroll. So
- 26:16Speaker 2: I do think that that you just start going into well,
- 26:20Speaker 2: why would we do that? Now? I'm not saying they sure,
- 26:21Speaker 2: and I actually think there could be really good brand
- 26:23Speaker 2: opportunities for them as a promotional tool. But I do
- 26:28Speaker 2: think that they I know they listen. I know they
- 26:32Speaker 2: listen to all the podcasts, So I think that they're
- 26:35Speaker 2: probably just like, Wow, they're doing a great job, So
- 26:38Speaker 2: why would we try and get in the game.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I think their move now is like trying to
- 26:44Speaker 1: provide more access so that the podcasters can be that
- 26:47Speaker 1: promotional tool for them. And I think they're realizing like, oh,
- 26:51Speaker 1: you're right, we have these people that will do the
- 26:54Speaker 1: work for free. Yeah. So I don't know that it's
- 26:57Speaker 1: a business good makes a ton of business sense or
- 27:00Speaker 1: Hallmark to pay podcasters to do that, although I do
- 27:03Speaker 1: think there is like a collaborative opportunity for some paid
- 27:08Speaker 1: crossover homemark we could talk.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually think that that would really I think
- 27:13Speaker 2: it'd be exciting if they started inviting like different podcasters
- 27:17Speaker 2: to set depending on which. So if it's one of
- 27:21Speaker 2: the like if it's something like the Wedding Veil trilogy,
- 27:25Speaker 2: you guys get to go. If it's something like Three
- 27:27Speaker 2: Wise Men and the Baby, the guys go, like, I
- 27:29Speaker 2: think that you can. I think that you can. There's
- 27:32Speaker 2: so many opportunities for them to collaborate and pay for
- 27:35Speaker 2: that collaboration. It's like what I would suggest to them,
- 27:39Speaker 2: but they don't want advice, but I'm giving it.
- 27:43Speaker 1: No, but I I think it makes sense right Like
- 27:45Speaker 1: we were, I'm gonna claim like the original Finding Mister
- 27:48Speaker 1: Christmas super fans, like before anybody was watching that show,
- 27:51Speaker 1: we were shouting from the rooftops like that they needed
- 27:53Speaker 1: to be watching that show. There's the one called the
- 27:55Speaker 1: heart podcasters, and that you know, everyone has their thing
- 27:59Speaker 1: that is authentic for them, and that partnership would make sense.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I did not mean to get into a business of
- 28:04Speaker 1: Hallmark podcasting discussion here.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It's inevitable. What are we gonna do?
- 28:09Speaker 1: So from your work speaking of we're all Hallmark fans here,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I mean Wendy is famously a former Hallmark hater, but.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Like, I love that about your dynamic though, that's what's fun.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Well and has come to really appreciate the genre, oh totally.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And I think your point about it being its own
- 28:25Speaker 1: separate saying that we can discuss as a very specific
- 28:29Speaker 1: type of product creation content. Do you have like a
- 28:34Speaker 1: deep cut Hallmark movie that you don't think ever got
- 28:37Speaker 1: enough love, or just like an all time favorite movie
- 28:39Speaker 1: that you ride hard for.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I I ride really hard for Snowbride. I think that
- 28:46Speaker 2: that movie is just like it's a classic rom com
- 28:51Speaker 2: with all the best. It also feels like what I
- 28:54Speaker 2: loved about like all the wrong comms when they're in
- 28:57Speaker 2: their hatay in the nineties.
- 28:59Speaker 4: It's heavy on the calm and like a nice, little
- 29:04Speaker 4: like bit of rom which is what I like.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I like it on the comedy, and I think that
- 29:08Speaker 2: Snowbride is one of those classics like that that I
- 29:12Speaker 2: hope they make more movies like that.
- 29:16Speaker 1: That's what I like. Too, heavy on the calm, right
- 29:18Speaker 1: on the ram. But you know what, I don't know
- 29:20Speaker 1: what Snowbride is. Can you believe we've never seen it?
- 29:23Speaker 2: I think you'll love it. It is so mad cap
- 29:26Speaker 2: and so funny. The script is great, the acting is exceptional,
- 29:31Speaker 2: like it is just one of those that and it's
- 29:34Speaker 2: I actually think it's one of our dear friend Dan's
- 29:38Speaker 2: favorite Hallmark It's not his favorite Christmas one, so it
- 29:41Speaker 2: really it's just really good.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Do we need to do a pre countdown to Christmas
- 29:45Speaker 1: Snowbride review?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Oh? I actually I actually think you should. Honestly, you
- 29:50Speaker 2: will love it.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I mean, Wendy's not watching The Chicken Sisters this month,
- 29:52Speaker 1: you got nothing but time. I'm just you know, I
- 29:56Speaker 1: threw on. This is so anti Wendy. The other day
- 30:00Speaker 1: I threw on. I was like, I'm really feeling fall
- 30:03Speaker 1: right now. It's August, but I was like, I'm gonna
- 30:06Speaker 1: throw on a fall Hallmark movie.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Can you believe it?
- 30:09Speaker 1: I can't. I put on last year's West Brown Aaron Cahill, Oh,
- 30:15Speaker 1: Autumn at Apple Hill.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was so good. Mothy fall Fields.
- 30:22Speaker 1: When's ninety five degrees outside.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, come on, we need to just like
- 30:26Speaker 2: take whatever we can get. We're gonna have pumpkin spice
- 30:29Speaker 2: back soon.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Today today, Actually, I told Megan off Mic, I was like,
- 30:34Speaker 1: the line at Starbucks was out of control because the
- 30:37Speaker 1: Fall drinks came out today. I wasn't today today, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 1: Labor Day weekend sounds like a perfect time for Snowbride,
- 30:43Speaker 1: So I think I'm gonna do that.
- 30:45Speaker 2: This would you guys let me know you're you're honest, unfiltered.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I mean you are on snubfiltered, so I can also
- 30:51Speaker 2: just listen to podcasts. But let me know what you think,
- 30:53Speaker 2: because I really love that movie, and I think you
- 30:56Speaker 2: will too.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I'm so excited.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I think we on the next week. I'm being serious,
- 31:02Speaker 2: it's so good.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It's so good. Well, I love talking podcasting, but I
- 31:08Speaker 1: really want to talk acting because I didn't tell you.
- 31:11Speaker 1: First of all, we met you this summer. You were
- 31:15Speaker 1: so delightful. We were terrified going into Bramblefest. We were like,
- 31:21Speaker 1: nobody's gonna know who we are, which is fine, but
- 31:23Speaker 1: I was like, nobody's gonna care. You walked straight over
- 31:26Speaker 1: to us, knew who we were, knew which one was Megan,
- 31:30Speaker 1: which one was Wendy. It just was like such the
- 31:32Speaker 1: warmest welcome, which to be fair, we got from everybody there.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But I was just like, oh, that's so nice. That
- 31:40Speaker 1: comes through on screen, that like cheerleader attitude. You were
- 31:45Speaker 1: so fun in this movie. But let's rewind a little
- 31:47Speaker 1: bit your first Hallmark movie experience, Love Fallen Order. What
- 31:52Speaker 1: talk about that experience, Like did that come about because
- 31:55Speaker 1: I mean, obviously you are an actor, but did that
- 31:57Speaker 1: come about because of your relationship with Palmar?
- 32:00Speaker 2: I will answer that one second. I just want to say, like,
- 32:02Speaker 2: I was so excited to meet you guys as everyone else,
- 32:05Speaker 2: so thank you for saying that, but like it was
- 32:09Speaker 2: I'm so I'm so not surprised to hear that you
- 32:12Speaker 2: guys were nervous because it's going into a whole new thing,
- 32:15Speaker 2: but we were all just so excited to meet you
- 32:18Speaker 2: and have been fans of you guys and fans of
- 32:20Speaker 2: your work. And yes, I definitely know the difference between
- 32:23Speaker 2: you two. But what I do want to add that
- 32:25Speaker 2: I think is really funny. As someone who was part
- 32:27Speaker 2: of a female podcasting duo, I remember being on a
- 32:30Speaker 2: step and Repeat with Shawl at like some sort of
- 32:33Speaker 2: Homewark event and one of the photographers because they had
- 32:36Speaker 2: a sign that said like Jackson shall bubbla sash and
- 32:38Speaker 2: someone screaming, which one's Jackson, which one's sh'all, and I
- 32:42Speaker 2: just like it was just funny. So I'm just laughing
- 32:47Speaker 2: because just like letting you know from one you know,
- 32:50Speaker 2: female podcasting duo to another, I get it so funny. Up, Yes,
- 32:56Speaker 2: the love Fall and Order came about. I remember exactly
- 33:00Speaker 2: where we were when we found out about it. We're
- 33:02Speaker 2: actually together, Sean and I were podcasting in the studio
- 33:06Speaker 2: and we were in we were on a break and
- 33:08Speaker 2: an email came through asking if it was something that
- 33:12Speaker 2: we were interested in doing, and I remember just being
- 33:14Speaker 2: so excited. The exec on that project, who has since
- 33:18Speaker 2: left to work for like another incredible network. Her name
- 33:23Speaker 2: is Maria Beth Spros Sprouse Mary Beth Sprouse, and she
- 33:27Speaker 2: had this idea. She worked in Allmark at the time,
- 33:31Speaker 2: was an exec on the movies, helps in development with them,
- 33:35Speaker 2: and had the idea after listening to our podcasting, Oh,
- 33:37Speaker 2: wouldn't it be fun to have the bubbly sets girls
- 33:40Speaker 2: in a cameo for this movie? And it ended up
- 33:42Speaker 2: being so much fun. It's where I met Aaron Cahle,
- 33:46Speaker 2: who has since become a really good friend. We just
- 33:49Speaker 2: had a blast on set. The whole team that we
- 33:52Speaker 2: worked with was great. But yeah, it was a direct
- 33:54Speaker 2: result of Mary Beth just thinking, Hey, this would be
- 33:58Speaker 2: a really fun thing to do, and I think that
- 34:00Speaker 2: that's also what I want to see them do with
- 34:04Speaker 2: like the podcasters at large, is like bringing them into
- 34:08Speaker 2: the community because this community loves Easter eggs, they love
- 34:13Speaker 2: things like so that that really makes people excited. And
- 34:17Speaker 2: we were also able to in addition to acting in
- 34:20Speaker 2: the movie, we were able to really do a deep
- 34:23Speaker 2: dive for the BTS and I think that that was
- 34:27Speaker 2: a fun that was a fun aspect of it too.
- 34:29Speaker 2: That sort of felt like it was really cohesive. So
- 34:32Speaker 2: we had a really great time doing that.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Your point about the Easter eggs is so funny. I
- 34:37Speaker 1: don't know if you're a Gilmore Girls fan, but we are.
- 34:41Speaker 1: And we also loved the Gilmore Guys podcast, like listen
- 34:45Speaker 1: to every single episode, and they were because of that podcast.
- 34:47Speaker 1: They were in the year in the Life episodes and
- 34:50Speaker 1: so not that I consider myself on par with the
- 34:52Speaker 1: Gilmour Guys, don't worry, but that is I'm like, happen
- 34:56Speaker 1: to them, It could happen to h.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Like I feel like people like I think that that
- 35:04Speaker 2: what is so great when you have an exec like
- 35:08Speaker 2: Mary Bath or have people that are looking at like, look,
- 35:11Speaker 2: it's really hard. Hallmark they they they're doing. They're creating
- 35:16Speaker 2: a lot of content in a short amount of time
- 35:18Speaker 2: with probably not enough people. So it's hard to like
- 35:20Speaker 2: look at the big picture because you're kind of just
- 35:24Speaker 2: toiling away trying to make sure all the things that
- 35:26Speaker 2: are doe today get done today. But when you have
- 35:28Speaker 2: those people that can zoom out and know what's going
- 35:30Speaker 2: on really holistically, not just within Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Media,
- 35:36Speaker 2: the brand, but also know the fandom, you make it
- 35:39Speaker 2: really exciting for the fans to have these driggs, like
- 35:42Speaker 2: to have you guys, to have the deck, the Hallmark guys,
- 35:45Speaker 2: to have people from hallmarkies. It makes people feel they're
- 35:48Speaker 2: already doing it with like the star cameos, but I
- 35:51Speaker 2: think they have so many opportunities to just make it
- 35:54Speaker 2: fun for people, Like if you're really in the fandom,
- 35:56Speaker 2: if you know, you know, and I think that's really great.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I mean, from your mouth to God's ears.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Over Michelle Nickery, is I like to call her? No,
- 36:06Speaker 2: I'm kidding. I mean, yes, I love Michelle and I'm
- 36:08Speaker 2: really glad she's back.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Yeah that's exciting news. Yeah, it's really exciting news. Okay,
- 36:14Speaker 1: so you've worked Hallmark, but You've also done projects on
- 36:18Speaker 1: TV movies outside of Hallmark up TV CBS. Talk about
- 36:22Speaker 1: the difference in creating those two different projects, like, did
- 36:24Speaker 1: you find that there was a difference, You know, it's interesting.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I definitely feel like for when I did the engagement
- 36:31Speaker 2: plot for up TV, honestly, that didn't feel that different
- 36:37Speaker 2: because even though the budget was lower and we were
- 36:40Speaker 2: getting paid a little bit less, we had Rachel Boston,
- 36:43Speaker 2: who is just an absolute gem, and you know, Brings
- 36:47Speaker 2: is an incredible leading lady on set and off too.
- 36:52Speaker 2: She's just a really nice person. And Trevor Donovant, So
- 36:56Speaker 2: we had two leads that like really knew how to
- 36:59Speaker 2: make these movies. And then of course we had Brian Bird,
- 37:03Speaker 2: who created one calls the Heart and is very familiar
- 37:05Speaker 2: with this world, so that felt really exciting. We got
- 37:08Speaker 2: to film in Colorado, it was such a blast. I
- 37:13Speaker 2: do feel like what was great about that though, is
- 37:16Speaker 2: I actually developed a deeper relationship with True Brand, with
- 37:19Speaker 2: the production company then sometimes you would on a Hallmark movie,
- 37:23Speaker 2: because they have a lot more freedom and creative control,
- 37:26Speaker 2: and they've become people that I've since worked with and
- 37:29Speaker 2: I've stayed in touch with, so That was really fine.
- 37:32Speaker 2: CBS was cool because I got to go to Canada
- 37:35Speaker 2: and I had never filmed in Canada before. I had
- 37:39Speaker 2: introduced the lead of the movie, Amanda Cludes to the
- 37:42Speaker 2: writer of the movie, Anna White, and then they ended
- 37:46Speaker 2: up thinking it would be a Hallmark movie. It's when
- 37:48Speaker 2: I was working for Hallmark. And then Amanda ended up
- 37:51Speaker 2: having a deal because she was working for the TV
- 37:53Speaker 2: show The Talk at the time deal with CBS that
- 37:56Speaker 2: they had to have like a write first refusal, so
- 37:58Speaker 2: it went to CBS. That was really fun to make.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I always wanted to work with Paul Green, and he
- 38:04Speaker 2: was just a the last on set, and it's just
- 38:07Speaker 2: he know, like he's one of those people that just
- 38:11Speaker 2: knows exactly how to do these movies. He makes everyone
- 38:14Speaker 2: feel welcome. He's really a leader on set, so that
- 38:16Speaker 2: one was a lot of fun. I had a lot
- 38:19Speaker 2: less acting to do in that one, so it was
- 38:22Speaker 2: kind of fun because I just got to like get
- 38:24Speaker 2: all cozy and my cute Christmas outfit and I could
- 38:27Speaker 2: be a little bit more relaxed. But it was nice
- 38:29Speaker 2: that it was That was like I was finally getting
- 38:31Speaker 2: to do a Christmas movie after watching so many.
- 38:33Speaker 1: That's a big deal too. Was that a big deal
- 38:35Speaker 1: for you to be like, I'm in this primetime movie
- 38:37Speaker 1: on CBS, I would imagine.
- 38:40Speaker 4: So it was It was fun and funny because somehow,
- 38:46Speaker 4: even though I had a very small cameo in the movie,
- 38:50Speaker 4: I made the trailer so and my name was before
- 38:53Speaker 4: the credits because of the way basically because I was
- 38:56Speaker 4: hired from the US as like not necessarily stun casting,
- 39:02Speaker 4: but the production company Motion Picture Association America and Brad
- 39:07Speaker 4: Curbboy I had had a relationship.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I have a relationship with him, and he had been
- 39:12Speaker 2: grateful that I had like sort of made the introduction
- 39:14Speaker 2: to make the project happen, so he really went out
- 39:16Speaker 2: of his way to make sure that I was in it.
- 39:20Speaker 2: But it was funny because people were like, oh my gosh,
- 39:22Speaker 2: you must have such a big part of the movie.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I saw you in the trailer, and I was like,
- 39:26Speaker 2: you saw almost all of what I do was me
- 39:28Speaker 2: in the trailer. But I love that. I love that,
- 39:31Speaker 2: So it was really fun. I think it was exciting
- 39:34Speaker 2: for people in my hometown to get to see me
- 39:36Speaker 2: on a network that they can just like turn on
- 39:38Speaker 2: their TV and have that they don't have to be like, wait,
- 39:40Speaker 2: how do I get it? Because the whole up TV
- 39:43Speaker 2: of it all was like my hometown in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania,
- 39:46Speaker 2: so sweet, so small. But they're very much like wait,
- 39:49Speaker 2: how am I going to get that? So CBS, this
- 39:51Speaker 2: was really easy. You just like turn it on, you
- 39:53Speaker 2: have it.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Role come to you.
- 40:00Speaker 2: So this is what I think is so funny that
- 40:04Speaker 2: I've been I have been not shy about wanting to
- 40:08Speaker 2: do to play the best friend in a Hallwark movie,
- 40:11Speaker 2: not shy about like staying in touch with people that
- 40:13Speaker 2: I know in Hallmark and being like hey hire me,
- 40:16Speaker 2: please please please, not in a desperate way, but also
- 40:19Speaker 2: like whatever, I'll do whatever you want me, walk on
- 40:22Speaker 2: my hands, I'll do that for a real all over
- 40:24Speaker 2: town Like. I was really up for it, and my
- 40:29Speaker 2: agent sent me an audition that was for a movie
- 40:33Speaker 2: called Soft Surf Romance, which was the original title for
- 40:35Speaker 2: Double Scoop. I thought the script was really cute. I
- 40:41Speaker 2: filmed the audition. Then I got a call maybe like
- 40:45Speaker 2: a week and a half later when I kind of
- 40:46Speaker 2: forgotten about it, for my agents saying that I was
- 40:50Speaker 2: pinned for the job. But a lot of people get
- 40:52Speaker 2: pinned when you really don't know, you really don't know
- 40:54Speaker 2: how many people are getting pinned. But they were checking
- 40:56Speaker 2: my availability to see if I'm still available. I was pinned.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Then I heard, oh no, there was a step in
- 41:03Speaker 2: between that. The step in between that was I figured
- 41:05Speaker 2: out who was directing it and what production company it was.
- 41:08Speaker 2: So my dear and wonderful friend Rachel Boston like scent
- 41:14Speaker 2: of releaseweet note to the director and to the producer
- 41:17Speaker 2: being like, oh hey, like my friend Jack's said that
- 41:21Speaker 2: she's up for this movie, like she I had a
- 41:24Speaker 2: great time working with her, which was so sweet of her.
- 41:27Speaker 2: And then I found out a couple days later that
- 41:29Speaker 2: I booked it, still didn't know what network it was for,
- 41:31Speaker 2: and still didn't know who was in it because this
- 41:33Speaker 2: was cast by a different casting director than in house
- 41:37Speaker 2: homework and it was Hybrid the production company that made
- 41:43Speaker 2: this film, who was incredible, and I love this team.
- 41:46Speaker 2: It was basically like they were making this movie not
- 41:50Speaker 2: on their own, like it was an acquisition because they
- 41:52Speaker 2: knew it was going to be a Hallmark. But I
- 41:53Speaker 2: didn't have a homework exec on the project from what
- 41:56Speaker 2: I could tell, or no, like they trust hybrid to
- 41:59Speaker 2: make the kind of movie that that they want to
- 42:02Speaker 2: put on their network. So this was very much I'm
- 42:08Speaker 2: sure my relationship with Hallmark may have helped a little
- 42:11Speaker 2: bit as far as especially Rachel really, but this was
- 42:15Speaker 2: something that I didn't even really know was a Hallmark
- 42:17Speaker 2: movie until after I had until well after I had
- 42:21Speaker 2: my contract, because it didn't even say it in the contract.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Oh interesting, Yeah, yeah. I mean if you look at
- 42:26Speaker 1: it as a with like Hallmark insider eyes, and you
- 42:29Speaker 1: look at like who made it, it doesn't you know
- 42:32Speaker 1: Taylor Cole obviously, but kind of beyond that, you don't
- 42:36Speaker 1: know that it's a Hallmark movie in terms of like
- 42:38Speaker 1: who wrote it and who directed it and all the
- 42:39Speaker 1: people involved. So yeah, that's really interesting.
- 42:43Speaker 2: That's very true because like this same team is the
- 42:46Speaker 2: team that did Marry Gentleman, so like Peter Sullivan our
- 42:49Speaker 2: director or Brian Nolan, our producer. So yeah, they make
- 42:53Speaker 2: these movies, but they make them for all different networks.
- 42:55Speaker 2: So yeah, I didn't know what network it was for
- 42:59Speaker 2: and was asked getting a round see if anyone knew.
- 43:02Speaker 2: But then when they told me Taylor was in it,
- 43:04Speaker 2: I was like, oh, that it's probably a Hallmark movie.
- 43:07Speaker 2: So I was really excited when I sent it out.
- 43:09Speaker 2: But then even some of the people that I know
- 43:11Speaker 2: at Hallmark still I let them know that I was
- 43:12Speaker 2: in it, and they were like, oh my gosh, we
- 43:13Speaker 2: didn't even know. That's great. Congrats.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Speaking of Taylor Pole, did you have a relationship with
- 43:18Speaker 1: work with her before making this movie?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Taylor was one of our first interviews in the Bubbly Sash,
- 43:23Speaker 2: and I met her at a couple of events and
- 43:25Speaker 2: just I mean, I always thought that she was such
- 43:28Speaker 2: a kind person, very talented. I love mystery, so I
- 43:30Speaker 2: loved Run for Me hearing. But we weren't friends or anything.
- 43:35Speaker 2: And but what was very cool is that we both
- 43:36Speaker 2: share a good friend in Aaron Kle. So I texted Aaron.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Aaron's like, oh my gosh, I can't believe the two.
- 43:42Speaker 2: If you're gonna be working together, let me put us
- 43:44Speaker 2: on a group text. And I was like, make sure
- 43:45Speaker 2: it's okay, Taylor whurs and she did. So it really
- 43:50Speaker 2: was fun. We got to sort of have this, you know,
- 43:53Speaker 2: it's like that thing like when they created the dating
- 43:55Speaker 2: app hinge, because you have someone in common, so then
- 43:58Speaker 2: you are able to have this thing.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know that was the premise of the
- 44:02Speaker 1: dating up Hinge.
- 44:02Speaker 2: It was it stopped. Why you don't even need a hinge?
- 44:05Speaker 2: They did. It's just kind of like all the other ones.
- 44:08Speaker 1: You now understand what the hinge name means.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Did you know?
- 44:12Speaker 1: No, I've been married twenty years, me too.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Now it's changed. When I was dating that you need
- 44:19Speaker 2: there need to be a hinge. Now there's not, so
- 44:21Speaker 2: like it's evolved completely past that. But I felt like
- 44:24Speaker 2: Aaron Cahill was our hinge, so we already had rapport
- 44:28Speaker 2: when we met.
- 44:30Speaker 1: One of my complaints it's not an actual night, but
- 44:33Speaker 1: my wishes about the movie is like we don't get
- 44:36Speaker 1: enough closure with you. I'm like, where is she still pregnant?
- 44:41Speaker 2: It's like.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Where does she have baby making or putting together the bouncer,
- 44:47Speaker 1: the bouncing chair and all that stuff.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:50Speaker 1: Yeah, did you? I mean, are there any moments that
- 44:53Speaker 1: didn't make the final cut or anything you wanted to see?
- 44:56Speaker 1: Tell me?
- 44:58Speaker 2: So there are? And what I do I want to
- 45:00Speaker 2: say is not even just this isn't me like trying
- 45:02Speaker 2: to tow the company line or be like, oh it's
- 45:06Speaker 2: okay that it wasn't in there watching the movie and
- 45:10Speaker 2: knowing how these movies need to like propel towards the end.
- 45:14Speaker 2: It makes complete sense. But what was cut In the
- 45:17Speaker 2: scene where I'm putting together the walker, I go on
- 45:20Speaker 2: a whole monologue about what I'm thinking about naming the baby,
- 45:23Speaker 2: and I tell her that the baby is a girl,
- 45:26Speaker 2: so that you learn that, and you learn all the
- 45:29Speaker 2: names that Grayson and I are considering, and I tell
- 45:33Speaker 2: her that she's going to be like a like a
- 45:34Speaker 2: great like I'm so excited for my baby to know
- 45:37Speaker 2: that her auntie Nora has done all this amazing stuff.
- 45:40Speaker 2: So that's a cut, which I totally understand.
- 45:42Speaker 1: It was.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I mean, it was adorable, and Kara J. Russell, who
- 45:45Speaker 2: wrote this script, wrote, I mean just adorable dialogue and
- 45:48Speaker 2: it was great, But does it really advance the story? No,
- 45:53Speaker 2: if we're if we have time, great, but there wasn't.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Then there's also a scene which was the first scene
- 45:59Speaker 2: I filmed, that was going to be the last scene
- 46:01Speaker 2: I was in, where we're back in the restaurant and
- 46:04Speaker 2: we're breaking everything down about what happened, and it's like
- 46:08Speaker 2: the last push for her to like reconnect with James.
- 46:13Speaker 2: But that also makes sense that that where was supposed
- 46:17Speaker 2: to be in the film because I had my script
- 46:19Speaker 2: out when I was watching it, because I knew that
- 46:22Speaker 2: scene wasn't in it, And I was like, oh, I
- 46:24Speaker 2: see why, Like this does feel like it really would
- 46:27Speaker 2: have broken the momentum. But I do wish that we
- 46:29Speaker 2: had access to the outtakes for like, and I'm sure
- 46:31Speaker 2: there were plenty of other things that got cut two,
- 46:35Speaker 2: but that is why. Also, there's a scene where Taylor
- 46:40Speaker 2: calls me and it's like, Kaya, Shannon, you know what
- 46:43Speaker 2: to do. It's like this voicemail I recorded that adr
- 46:46Speaker 2: after the fact because when they realized that they couldn't
- 46:49Speaker 2: have like that final scene, there needed to be something
- 46:53Speaker 2: to give Taylor the opportunity to at least like tie
- 46:58Speaker 2: up some of those lose ends about them in person.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I love the behind the scene. I know, so do
- 47:03Speaker 1: I I was like, oh, let's talk about craft services. Sure.
- 47:08Speaker 2: The only mummer about it being cut, I mean, of course,
- 47:10Speaker 2: you never want yourself to get cut, but it really
- 47:12Speaker 2: made sense for this was that, Uh, the outfit was
- 47:15Speaker 2: definitely my favorite outfit.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Yet you want to like that video, You're like, can
- 47:18Speaker 1: I I don't are reel as a thing that actors
- 47:20Speaker 1: still no no, Oh.
- 47:23Speaker 2: My gosh, Megan, I thought I thought that would be
- 47:26Speaker 2: weird if I email them for for my reel. And
- 47:27Speaker 2: then I'm like, Okay, I shouldn't do that because there
- 47:29Speaker 2: I do have. I do have plenty from this movie
- 47:31Speaker 2: that I can use. But I was just like, Daurna,
- 47:34Speaker 2: I love that out.
- 47:37Speaker 1: We famously know nothing about making no nothing.
- 47:41Speaker 3: No.
- 47:42Speaker 1: My daughter comes to me, She's like, I'd really like
- 47:43Speaker 1: to start auditioning. I was like, girlfriend, you got the
- 47:45Speaker 1: wrong parent. I don't even well, you let.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Me know because I'm an acting coach for kids. How
- 47:50Speaker 2: old is your daughter?
- 47:51Speaker 1: She's fifteen.
- 47:53Speaker 2: That's the park head age. That's actually I coach mean
- 47:57Speaker 2: well really from like seven to likeneen, but fifteen is
- 48:02Speaker 2: like one of my sweet spots. I've had one of
- 48:03Speaker 2: my fifteen year olds since she was seven.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Oh wow, Yeah, that would be amazing because we were
- 48:09Speaker 1: told she needs a screen acting coach. We will definitely
- 48:12Speaker 1: talk more exciting. Okay, let's talk. Can we talk about
- 48:18Speaker 1: like future goals like that? I mean, look the spoiler
- 48:25Speaker 1: alert in our review. I'm like, I need to see
- 48:29Speaker 1: Jack's carrying the weight of a Hallmark movie. On her back,
- 48:32Speaker 1: because I fully believe that is something you can do.
- 48:35Speaker 2: You can be a lead.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So like I assume that's a goal. But like,
- 48:40Speaker 1: do you have any interers working in like other aspects
- 48:43Speaker 1: of movie making or you're like no, I like on
- 48:46Speaker 1: camera acting.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Oh great question. First of all, thank you. I think
- 48:50Speaker 2: what's interesting is, like my goal in the Hallmark space
- 48:55Speaker 2: for like the next like two years would be like
- 48:59Speaker 2: two plays as many of these best friend parts as
- 49:02Speaker 2: I can, or like you like quirky music teacher or
- 49:08Speaker 2: things like that, Like I would love to do that.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Would I love to be lead in one of these movies? Yes,
- 49:12Speaker 2: But here's the thing. I feel very comfortable leading a
- 49:17Speaker 2: play like it's something I've done a bunch of times.
- 49:19Speaker 2: It's something I feel confident in, and I feel very
- 49:23Speaker 2: comfortable like having large roles in TV and fell. This
- 49:29Speaker 2: is a very specific skill set, which is why I
- 49:32Speaker 2: like go On and On as. It's funny because I'm
- 49:35Speaker 2: am a fan acting. I really thought I was just
- 49:37Speaker 2: going to do like theater of the rest of my life,
- 49:39Speaker 2: like Shakespeare, check off all these things. So I went
- 49:42Speaker 2: to school with a lot of like serious actors, and
- 49:45Speaker 2: I tell them I'm like, I'm telling you, these Hallmark
- 49:47Speaker 2: movies are a specific kind of thing where not only
- 49:51Speaker 2: if you're number one in the call sheet, not only
- 49:53Speaker 2: are you not responsible for carrying the movie you're in
- 49:56Speaker 2: almost every scene, but you also need to be a
- 50:00Speaker 2: leader on set. And I think that I would love
- 50:03Speaker 2: to do a couple more of these as the best friend.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I wouldn't mind having a larger role as a best friend,
- 50:12Speaker 2: but I think that I would rather do that first
- 50:15Speaker 2: and then like eventually jumping in to being the leading
- 50:18Speaker 2: lady of my own life. As far as other things
- 50:22Speaker 2: in movie making that I'm interested in, I love directing,
- 50:26Speaker 2: I love writing. I just had a short film at
- 50:29Speaker 2: a festival that I wrote and directed that one of
- 50:32Speaker 2: my students was in and my best friend from graduate
- 50:36Speaker 2: school was in, where they played father daughter. And people
- 50:39Speaker 2: have said to me, or are you interested in writing
- 50:40Speaker 2: a Hallmark movie? And I was like, no, not at all.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I'm not like I love I think that people who
- 50:46Speaker 2: are really good at it should keep doing it. It's
- 50:49Speaker 2: not something that I'm interested in, and really not in
- 50:54Speaker 2: directing them either. I really like acting in them, and
- 50:57Speaker 2: I think that the stories that I want to tell
- 50:59Speaker 2: that I on whether it's like writing or directing or producing.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I really want them to be I'm very interested in
- 51:08Speaker 2: exploring like female friendship, nostalgia, and like young actors with yes,
- 51:21Speaker 2: like joy and fun, but also with like this lens
- 51:24Speaker 2: of sort of like melancholy and vulnerability, So something that
- 51:29Speaker 2: is a little bit heavier than what you might see
- 51:33Speaker 2: on Hallmark. But I would act in these movies until
- 51:36Speaker 2: you know, the day I die, they'll have me. Yeah.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I'm so interested in this project that you did that
- 51:45Speaker 1: you just talked about about being in a festival. Is
- 51:46Speaker 1: that available somewhere?
- 51:49Speaker 2: Oh, I can send it to you guys, So it's
- 51:50Speaker 2: doing it. Yeah, I can absoutely send to you guys.
- 51:53Speaker 2: It's nine minutes eleven seconds and it's basically this father
- 51:56Speaker 2: and daughter making nachos together and they've they they've he's
- 52:03Speaker 2: a fairly recently divorced dad, and it's sort of this
- 52:06Speaker 2: one tiny moment of vulnerability that sort of changes their relationship.
- 52:10Speaker 2: But it's very simple and gentle. But most importantly, it's
- 52:14Speaker 2: like two people that I had this student and I
- 52:17Speaker 2: was like, she's incredible. She hadn't done any on camera work.
- 52:21Speaker 2: And then my friend his name is Russell Daniels. He's
- 52:25Speaker 2: done Broadway, he's done off Broadway, He's done a lot
- 52:28Speaker 2: of theater, and he is a very he's very successful.
- 52:31Speaker 2: He's a great career, but he hasn't done a lot
- 52:32Speaker 2: of on camera work. And I kept saying to one
- 52:36Speaker 2: of my best friends, Christina, I was like, I just
- 52:38Speaker 2: want them to work together. I want them to do
- 52:40Speaker 2: like like paper Moon, like a reboot, like a like
- 52:44Speaker 2: paper Moon two or something like. I want them to
- 52:46Speaker 2: be this father daughter duo. And then I was like,
- 52:49Speaker 2: wait a minute, why don't I just make something where
- 52:52Speaker 2: they can do that? And so they are wonderful together.
- 52:56Speaker 2: I'm so proud of them. I'm so proud of her.
- 52:58Speaker 2: She was actually in a short play that I wrote
- 53:02Speaker 2: that was at a festival in New York, and I'm
- 53:04Speaker 2: working on a feature now that is sort of based
- 53:07Speaker 2: on that short play. So I really I just love
- 53:11Speaker 2: working with kids. I mean, especially especially young women. So
- 53:17Speaker 2: Megan and your daughter, you let me.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Know, Oh my gosh, she would and she would love you.
- 53:22Speaker 1: She would love you. She's a cool kid too. I
- 53:24Speaker 1: think you'd like her. Use you all, yes, please send
- 53:29Speaker 1: us that. I would love to see.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I would you to see that people waiting to
- 53:32Speaker 2: watch it, I'll definitely send it to you, guys.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Double scoop. People can watch on Hallmark Plus right now,
- 53:38Speaker 1: right this minute, but tell people where else they can
- 53:41Speaker 1: find you after they're done listening to this.
- 53:44Speaker 2: You can find me on Jacqueline. You can find me
- 53:47Speaker 2: at Jacqueline Call. You're on Instagram and ived me the movie,
- 53:51Speaker 2: but I don't really use twitter X anymore. I try
- 53:55Speaker 2: to get on Blue Sky and it was unsuccessful. But
- 53:57Speaker 2: if you do want to find me on X, I'm
- 54:00Speaker 2: Jacqueline stee tweets, but mostly find me on Instagram. J
- 54:04Speaker 2: A C K l I N C O L l
- 54:06Speaker 2: I E R. And I love hearing what people think
- 54:11Speaker 2: about the movies. I also feel like I have a
- 54:14Speaker 2: pretty good I take my work seriously, but I don't
- 54:17Speaker 2: take myself seriously. So people will say funny comments about
- 54:21Speaker 2: the movies, and unless it's like super mean spirited, I
- 54:26Speaker 2: usually find it very funny. So please feel free to
- 54:30Speaker 2: DM me your unfiltered thoughts on the movie.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining us. This was such
- 54:37Speaker 1: a good time. We'd love to have you back thoughts
- 54:40Speaker 1: coming into countdown to Christmas, are you excited. Are you nervous?
- 54:43Speaker 1: Are you ready?
- 54:44Speaker 2: Yes? All the things I'm like really like, what is
- 54:47Speaker 2: going to happen now that we have, like I'm finding
- 54:49Speaker 2: mister Christmas, I'm excited to see how that so like
- 54:52Speaker 2: honestly like you, ladies, let me know if you want
- 54:55Speaker 2: to hop on again to review anything. I would love to.
- 54:59Speaker 2: I'm such fancy. You've always been like a ray of
- 55:04Speaker 2: sunshine in this space and also so funny, so funny,
- 55:08Speaker 2: and I think that that's what we need, more women
- 55:13Speaker 2: in this space who can be funny and have that
- 55:17Speaker 2: sort of not an edge but just like realness, which
- 55:21Speaker 2: I really appreciate.
- 55:23Speaker 1: That's so funny because funny is is it a word
- 55:25Speaker 1: you'd ever used to describe nover?
- 55:27Speaker 2: Really?
- 55:29Speaker 1: No, but I love it. I mean, I yeah, aspire
- 55:32Speaker 1: to that. Well, you're like I do.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Admire to be fun. It's always landing with the people
- 55:36Speaker 2: that needs to land with. Thank you.
- 55:38Speaker 1: That's very sweet. Well, this has been so much fun.
- 55:41Speaker 1: We will leave links to everything everywhere in the show
- 55:44Speaker 1: notes of this episode. Jacqueline, this was so fun. Thank
- 55:47Speaker 1: you for joining us.
- 55:49Speaker 2: I'll see you very shortly, if hopefully in person, but
- 55:53Speaker 2: anytime you want me to review with you. I'm on it.
- 55:56Speaker 3: Amazing, We're back.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Let's talk wishes. Okay, I have a few. I'm gonna
- 56:11Speaker 1: start with the biggest one to me is that this
- 56:14Speaker 1: movie leaned hard into Hallmark's Pantry of Tropes. Pantry of Tropes.
- 56:20Speaker 1: I love it. I wish I could say and I
- 56:23Speaker 1: made it, but I did it. But you know, we
- 56:27Speaker 1: got a rival company, sabotaging boss, big Town festival where
- 56:31Speaker 1: everyone comes together to pull it off an interrupted kiss.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I'm like, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Do we really live in a world where we have
- 56:41Speaker 1: these underhanded bosses who are making a phone call telling
- 56:43Speaker 1: lies about the other company in order to get and
- 56:47Speaker 1: and let's talk about the bribe? Mm yeah, because to me,
- 56:54Speaker 1: he's he's like in the signing bonus, and Bro's like,
- 56:57Speaker 1: we don't offer a signing bonus. It's like we do now.
- 56:58Speaker 1: And I was like, wait a minute, explain to me
- 57:01Speaker 1: how this works. Because your company that has acquired a
- 57:05Speaker 1: new client, the ice cream client, is going to pay you.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Why are they getting a signing bonus from you? How
- 57:12Speaker 1: does that make sense? Fast forward to the end of
- 57:15Speaker 1: the movie where he's explaining to Nora all of the
- 57:19Speaker 1: like what happened that led to them getting the account?
- 57:22Speaker 1: And he's like, yeah, they bribed him, and she's like,
- 57:24Speaker 1: they wouldn't take a bribe what they did. Yeah, what's
- 57:27Speaker 1: that saying about a little bit of a hanging chat situation.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Totally love that reference. I thank you you alluded to it.
- 57:36Speaker 1: I just want to close the loop on the pitch session.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I really needed Nora not to use those horrible paper
- 57:42Speaker 1: science fair signs, Like I understand the motivation was she
- 57:46Speaker 1: didn't want to feel corporate. She wanted to relate to
- 57:48Speaker 1: them on a real person level. Yes, James had his
- 57:51Speaker 1: PowerPoint presentation on a screen. Sometimes there's a place for
- 57:55Speaker 1: things to feel corporate, for them to feel polished. I
- 57:59Speaker 1: wouldn't have mind did the screen free approach if it
- 58:03Speaker 1: had been executed a little bit better. Yeah, yeah, I
- 58:06Speaker 1: watched this scene a couple times. The missus Darlington, I
- 58:09Speaker 1: can't remember her first name is, but like the owner
- 58:12Speaker 1: of that company, the dairy firm. There, she's like looking
- 58:15Speaker 1: at like a printed out pitch deck. Yeah, she goes,
- 58:19Speaker 1: this is impressive, And I was like, is that sarcasm
- 58:22Speaker 1: or is that she being true there? Because that what
- 58:26Speaker 1: we don't learn until the end is that the bad
- 58:30Speaker 1: boss had already called them oh yeah, yeah, yeah, to
- 58:34Speaker 1: tell them that Nora wasn't great. So having a hard
- 58:38Speaker 1: time reading the scene there like, well, where to assume
- 58:41Speaker 1: the bad boss has already called them, right, because they
- 58:42Speaker 1: make the decision in the same day, so they must
- 58:45Speaker 1: have heard from him that had it correct. Yeah yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: but I don't know. I don't. I just was like,
- 58:50Speaker 1: what is this science fair board behind us? Sure it
- 58:55Speaker 1: was tragic, and put your print out in a binder
- 58:58Speaker 1: at least don't handle them as stapled packet of papers. Goodness,
- 59:03Speaker 1: oh my goodness. Okay, My next wish is James and Nora.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Where is the spark? This is kind of where the
- 59:11Speaker 1: movie lost me a little bit because I didn't feel
- 59:14Speaker 1: any chemistry between these two characters. They are supposed to
- 59:20Speaker 1: be like on the cusp of falling in love, and
- 59:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't buy it. They feel like two
- 59:26Speaker 1: former colleagues. That's how they speak to each other. There
- 59:29Speaker 1: was no like woo woo happening. Yeah yeah, yeah, I
- 59:33Speaker 1: just did not no flirty banter, no tension, no zing,
- 59:39Speaker 1: no zing. And then they dropped that I love you
- 59:43Speaker 1: at the end, and I shouted, no, I'm utterly in
- 59:47Speaker 1: love with you. Oh no, I miss that. I missed that.
- 59:51Speaker 1: I only caught it on the second. I heard it
- 59:53Speaker 1: the first time. I I didn't catch the pun until
- 59:55Speaker 1: the second, which brings me to my next question and
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: punny cowjokes. Yeah, your name hard to pass, hard freaking
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: It was a video podcast. People couldn't seen your reaction. Yeah,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I mean, the kid was cute. She grew on me,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: But I was I was done. Are you Are you
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: engaging in a running joke with like a teenager like
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: hoping that they can like really stump you with a pun?
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Like girlfriend works on a dairy farm. Do you think
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: there's a cowjoke she has not heard? I know. I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: just was like, stop it right now, stop it. We
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: mentioned this in our chat with Jack's, but look, I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: did want some more closure with the character of Shannon.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: I understand that she's not the point here, but they've
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: introduced her to us. She's pregnant. It's natural for us
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: to wonder about her fate. Mm hmm, what's next for her?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I agree, I just wanted a little bit more there.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I did too, Plus I was I love Jack's Oh,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: like wyah, Like I thought this was a really big
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: role for her too, and I was like I wanted
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: like bigger more, like I wanted to screen timers. I
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: just think she's so freaking ou. As soon as they
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: leave for Fake Wisconsin, I was like, Oh, yeah, we're
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: gonna get the facetimes. Yeah I know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: all right, let's talk to you to see though I'm oh,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: you have more wish. I am not done the entire
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: time I'm watching this. This is a company, This is
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: a dairy farm who makes this like artisanal ice creams
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that have like that's the word I was looking for.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I thought it might be Can you believe that I'm
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: holding so these ice creams very in the line of
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: saltan straw ice cream if you are from the West Coast,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: the Organ area. I don't think saltan straw is beyond
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: the West Coast, I don't. I don't know though, but
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a blue cheese pear ice cream or a strawberry balsamic
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: ice cream is very much like in line with what
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: they do. Sure anyway, My point is they're in like
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: all the big grocery stores. Yeah, this Darlington ice cream
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I need to see the production of it. We're on
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: your dairy farm? Where are you making the ice cream? Mash?
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Why are we not seeing the business side? We only
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: see when they like hand churn ice cream. Obviously that's
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: not how they're producing mass producing. But it does not
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: make any sense. The mom says at one point, like,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: this is our legacy, this is what we're known for.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Why are we then you're telling me that you're the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: one who's moving the haybelles. Yeah, where's the rest of
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: your stats?
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me. They don't
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: have like a corporate boardroom. If yeah, why is this
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: pitch happening in your living room? Where's your factory? Where
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: is production happening? Where's the refrigerated truck pulling up to
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: pull these all away? Yes? These things, all these things.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I was wondering, and I wish, I wish we would
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: have asked jacks this what was the actual ice cream
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: they were eating? Because Jackson was eating ice cream throughout
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: this entire movie? Uh huh. I was like, what, actually,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: where did you get the where is that from? I
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: was wondering what they used? Did they have like a
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: food person on staff who made these pints of ice
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: cream or did they just pick up a pint of
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: McConnell's and like put a different label on it, label
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: on it. I'm very curious. McConnell's. Please they got private select.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: You're right, finally, this is not finally, this is not
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: my last wish. Just to close out this topic, we
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: don't get to see the success of the Darlington brand
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: at the end. Give me a one year later. I
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: need to see what Nora and James have done as
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: a team now to make this brown successful. Yeah. I
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: was like, they build on a factory so they are
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: no longer hand churning all of their pints of ice
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: coming something like that. My last wish was not even
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: really a wish. It's just a conversation point that kind
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: of like made me mad. James comes in and like hero,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: what's the word I'm looking for? Like has this like
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: hero complex where he comes in and like gets some
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: financial help for the dairy farmers in this town.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: This then pisss Nora off because Nora's like, you're moving
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: in like ways that we had agreed upon, right, And
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I think she was rightfully mad because he had already
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: we had already like established that he had taken credit
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: for her work for something else, and he says like, oh,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry for that, and then does this. Wouldn't you,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: as Nora be like, dude, you're doing unethical things? Yeah,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: I mean I think I feel like it walks the
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: line because the problem is, like was his move and
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: getting the support they need because they need a subsidy, right,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Like the reason they needed a subsidy is because like
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: the same reason all American farmers receive a subsidy, so
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: potatoes don't cost seventeen dollars a potato. So like, if
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: you look at it from that perspective, if he was
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: not in the running for this, it's altruistic, right, But
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: because he stood to benefit from this good move, like
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: there should have been a way for them to work
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: on that together or for that to occur after the
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: fact or whatever. Yeah, I mean, like on its own,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: is it bad? No, But because it influences the decision
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: whether or not they say it does, right, So I
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: think she was rightfully pissed, And he could have told her.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: That's the other thing, Like he could have let her
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: know that he was doing that he had reached out
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: to people that he had tried to make this happen, right,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: But what happens in the scene is that the mayor
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: announces it, and he's like, oh, the mayor was not
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: supposed to announce that at that point, like when Nora
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: confronts him, right, And so that's kind of like the
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: first thing he goes, oh, he was like, mister deflection,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: the Mayor's not supposed to announce that, right. And then
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: he's like, well, you're doing the same thing, like he
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: turns the blame on her, and I was like red flag,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: like this guy GTFO, like I was you'ressed? I was done.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: I was like, I cannot stand a person who says,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: but you but you sure, sure?
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Sure?
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Do you take accountability? You should have said, yeah, maybe
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: this wasn't the right time. I shouldn't have offered there
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: because it could give me this He didn't accept any responsibility. Correct, Yeah,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: are you ready if I did to see that? Yes,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I have several means, people go ahead, Okay. The first thing,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: there is a farm scene. I don't remember if they're
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: like at the big festival or what, but they're feeding
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: like a young cow with a bottle, and I noticed
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: this young cow has this metal thing on its forehead,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: and I was like, what is that? Yes, at first
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I thought maybe it was like just a tag, but no,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: I googled, do you know what that thing is? No,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: So they put these metal plugs to prevent their horns
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: from growing. And it made me feel really bad when
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I learned about this. Oh no, yeah, and here's the
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: other thing, because I went down a rabbit. Why don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: they want their horns to grow so they're not getting
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: dangers to like their handlers or to each other. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: but that doesn't make only bold grow horns, and bulls
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: can't be milk. I don't know. It's some sort of
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: like these. It's called dehorning. So I don't know. I
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: don't know. That must have been a boy cow. I
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. There's not such thing as
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: a boy cow. That must have been a boy cattle.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Fun fact, cows or
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: female bulls or male cattle is the gender noodral term.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Oh interesting, But I'm gonna tell you. I went down
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: this rabbit hole and I was like, that has to
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: be painful for the animal to have this like plug
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: insult And there's only some countries and some states that
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: require anesthesia for this. Oh no, I know California is
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: not one. This was in Alabama. You said it was filmed.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I don't know if Alabama is on that list or not.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: But I'm like this, and I'm not a vegetarian or
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: a vegan. I love animals, but I don't I don't
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: want I don't. I don't want to know about these details.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I don't want to know. I don't want to know. Okay,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: tell me your digit SYE. That's the next one. The
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: next one is Ryan or this is Ryan McPartland as
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: James versus the Mayor. They're standing up on stage and
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Ryan looks seven feet tall and the mayor looks five
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: feet tall. Like it was almost comical the height difference
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: between these. He's much taller than the actor playing Livery too,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: because there's a scene and they shoot them at their
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: face height, and so the shot when Lavery is speaking,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: it's angled upwards like he's looking out. Oh really, I
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: wonder how tall he is. I mean put in an
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: apple box up there for the shorter actor. Yeah, I
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: give him the chys O'donnald treatments. Some what this is
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: a reference I make often. They had to dig a
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: ditch on Circle of Friends for Minnie Driver to walk
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: in because she was so much taller than Chris o'donald.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: Oh interesting, I said, Batman, wasn't he Robin? Chris O'Donnell
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: like he was Robin. Okay, I'm just picturing like Robin
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: like little and like Batman big, so he doesn't give
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: a Batman energy. Yeah, okay. In the beginning, when James
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: and Nora run into each other literally and she drops
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: her ice cream, he like picks it up, and he
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: was like Nora, and she's like gone, and he just
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: takes it like it was eight seconds later. You could
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: have found her. She did not take it two steps
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: with his very long legs to catch up to her.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: She's not Batman. She didn't fly away. When they first
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: arrived with the farm and they want to pitch the Darlingtons,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: They're like, well, we're going to put you to work,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: and so they work all day on the farm. Cut
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: to Nora falling into bed in the clothes that she's
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: been working in all day. But she's pristine, like her
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: makeup's perfect, her clothes are perfect, and she gets into bed.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I'm like, girlfriend, you've been on the farm all day.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: You got to get your outside clothes off the bed.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: You don't get on in the bed with those dirty clothes, No,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: you do not. Nora finds the stuffed cow in her
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: desk drawer and goes to throw it away, and look,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I assign real feelings to inanimate objects, especially stuffed animals,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I was mortified. You don't
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: throw stuffed animals away, do you? You do? Huh? I
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: can tell you no. Do you want to go see
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: the stuffed animals in hammocks in my daughter's room hanging
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: from her walls. Well, we have like a bean bag
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: that you fill up with that animals, so it just
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: looks like a bean bag, but it's filled with all
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: these little stuffies that have memories. Yeah, it's hard because
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: my daughter loves stuffed animals and she has so many,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: so we had to buy these hammocks. They're like hammock
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: bunk beds hanging up the walls with all of her
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: stuffedand girlfriend's fifteen. But can I get rid of all? Now?
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: I know? I have the same feeling for like Christmas
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: ornaments too, like that are a character ish Like no,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I can't get rid of those. Oh no, yeah, my
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: last did you see that is when they name James
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: vice president. They're celebrating with sparkling cider and they even
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: said drink your juice.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Drink your juice.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I was like, what this is not giving like per
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: emotion it. I thought it was really weird. I thought
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: it was odd too. They bust out the four dollar
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: bottle of Martin Ellie's. I actually friendly to the rescue.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I could rewind it because I was like, wait a minute.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: When I heard the drink your juice, I was like,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: are they actually drinking champagne or Nope, they're actually drinking
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: sparkling siders. Yeah. I give credit to listener Maki for this.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Next did you see that? Listener and Facebook moderator Mackie
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: one of our MVPs. She emailed us to let us know.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: We also the misspelled cake in the beginning Alexander instead
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: of Alexandra. There's a callback at the end when Nora's
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: cake is spelled Norma. Oh I did not catch and
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: it's a blink and you'll miss it moment I saw
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: it because MACKI pointed it out. So thank you for that.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Loved that full SoCal moment. Finally, when they're kissing on
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: the sidewalk outside of the restaurant, there's a huge rush
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: of people walking by on the sidewalk and then the
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: cameras pull back and behind them there's nobody on the streets.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Like my background after they had was in that one
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: little area and I was like, spread around a little bit,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: there's some people there. Are you ready to rate? Double scoop?
