- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on Sporting State. He
- 0:02Speaker 1: is Chad Withrow. I'm Jonathan Hutton. This is Hutton and
- 0:05Speaker 1: Withrow at SportingState.com and on YouTube and across the social
- 0:09Speaker 1: media platforms. Glad you're with us live each and every
- 0:11Speaker 1: morning here at SportingState.com. Chad, big show today. John McClain,
- 0:16Speaker 1: the man in black himself, will join us a little
- 0:18Speaker 1: bit later in today's program, about an hour and a
- 0:20Speaker 1: half from right now. We're here for the next two hours.
- 0:22Speaker 1: A lot to discuss. Good morning.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Good morning, Hutton. We've got primary complaint. We've got a
- 0:28Speaker 2: top ten list coming from you. We did worst vibes
- 0:31Speaker 2: in college football today. We're all about positivity on this show.
- 0:34Speaker 2: It's about best vibes today on the show. And now,
- 0:37Speaker 2: in lieu of Western Michigan, I feel like I want
- 0:40Speaker 2: to find something where I can just say, you know what,
- 0:42Speaker 2: we're not leaving. Upon further investigation, you were wrong, we
- 0:46Speaker 2: were right, and we are prepared to sue or go
- 0:49Speaker 2: after what is ours. Bravo, Western Michigan. Maction is back, baby.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're back.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Western Michigan no longer bowing down to the Big Ten
- 0:57Speaker 2: in Michigan. They know they were screwed. The world knows
- 1:00Speaker 2: they were screwed. The only ones who don't believe it
- 1:02Speaker 2: are Heather Denich and Michigan fans. Everyone else knows the truth, Hutton.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Western Michigan won that football game. There aren't two clocks.
- 1:12Speaker 2: There is one clock. We have people on this call
- 1:15Speaker 2: right now with us that work in TV trucks that
- 1:19Speaker 2: are around scoreboards and clocks all the time in an
- 1:22Speaker 2: official capacity, they'll be the first to tell you there's
- 1:25Speaker 2: no mystery second clock. There is one clock out there.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Western Michigan knows it.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We know it.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Deep down, Michigan knows it. The Big Ten totally screwed
- 1:35Speaker 2: the Broncos.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And then there's the SEC, Lane Kiffin, and LSU with
- 1:41Speaker 1: plenty to discuss on that. If Let's set up this
- 1:44Speaker 1: discussion about both Western Michigan and Maction and the SEC
- 1:49Speaker 1: and LSU with this story, this backstory of us. And
- 1:52Speaker 1: if you're not a day one season ticket holder, you
- 1:54Speaker 1: can call yourself one after knowing the story. Chad, there's
- 1:57Speaker 1: a phrase, these guys don't want to fight. I'd like
- 2:01Speaker 1: you to tell the backstory because you were there to
- 2:04Speaker 1: witness this with Keith Bullock. And this will tie in
- 2:09Speaker 1: with a question that I will ask. Do these guys
- 2:11Speaker 1: really want to fight? And I will try to be
- 2:15Speaker 1: Keith Bullock in this situation and determine which side wants
- 2:19Speaker 1: to fight and which side doesn't. Why did Keith say
- 2:22Speaker 1: that one night? So, Hutton, we love a good real-life
- 2:27Speaker 1: story that ties into what's going on with whatever we're
- 2:30Speaker 1: talking about, right? So I was at a very swanky
- 2:33Speaker 1: Christmas party. Yes.
- 2:35Speaker 2: In fact, the Honorable Brad Lampley was at this party also.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Later after this point became our agent.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I don't know how. A good buddy of mine who
- 2:44Speaker 1: will remain nameless. Good. Everybody's having a good time at
- 2:48Speaker 1: the party. His name was J.T.? Yes.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Jordan Tinkle was the young man's name.
- 2:53Speaker 1: No, it was not JT.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But a good buddy of mine was friends with a
- 2:58Speaker 2: really good buddy of mine that you know very well.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm good friends with him now. I'm on a group
- 3:02Speaker 1: text with him every day. Great guy. Okay. Wonderful guy.
- 3:06Speaker 2: They are leaving the party. I think we end up
- 3:09Speaker 2: staying after our wives left. So, you know, the drinks
- 3:13Speaker 2: happened and some things, you know, things.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Were getting a little wild.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Well, we're going to Uber home.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So we go out to the front of this swanky
- 3:20Speaker 2: house in Bellmead, a great neighborhood in Nashville, and we're
- 3:25Speaker 2: waiting on our Uber. Well, there is some sort of
- 3:26Speaker 2: dispute over whose Uber is who. And there's a couple
- 3:31Speaker 2: waiting on an Uber.
- 3:32Speaker 1: As if this is Vegas. It's just like Vegas. You know,
- 3:35Speaker 1: every car looks the same. And granted, like. My buddy
- 3:38Speaker 1: was over-served. Just hops in this Uber. The guy's like,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, get out. This is for me and my
- 3:44Speaker 1: wife or girlfriend or whoever it was. Like, we're getting
- 3:47Speaker 1: in this Uber.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And he just kind of sits there defiantly like I'm
- 3:50Speaker 2: not getting out of the Uber. So this guy physically
- 3:53Speaker 2: removes my buddy from the Uber. And in doing so,
- 3:57Speaker 2: my buddy lunges at this guy.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Well, we didn't know.
- 4:01Speaker 2: At the time that this guy was an Army Ranger.
- 4:05Speaker 2: that had served to us. Not that you should be
- 4:09Speaker 2: starting a fight with anyone randomly anywhere you are, but
- 4:12Speaker 2: as my buddy, who's a large man, a big, big guy,
- 4:17Speaker 2: lunges at this guy, the Army Ranger proceeds to just
- 4:20Speaker 2: go to town on my buddy.
- 4:22Speaker 1: His girlfriend's trying to pull him off. I'm trying to
- 4:25Speaker 1: get in the middle of it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: In the midst of getting in the middle of this,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I get thrown into some shrubbery in the front of
- 4:31Speaker 2: the house. I just kind of lose my balance, go
- 4:33Speaker 2: in the back. I'm like, I'm not stopping this because
- 4:35Speaker 2: at this point, it's the Army Ranger and his buddy
- 4:39Speaker 2: versus my bigger friend, right?
- 4:41Speaker 1: So I go inside of the nice, swanky house in Bellmead.
- 4:44Speaker 2: And one thing I know about, because I just got
- 4:46Speaker 2: done talking to him, was Keith Bullock is also at
- 4:49Speaker 2: this party.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I'm like, Keith's a buddy. He's got my back.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So I run in. I'm, Keith, Keith, Keith, come on out.
- 4:55Speaker 1: We need help. We need help. We need help. Please
- 4:57Speaker 1: come on out. Help my buddy.
- 4:58Speaker 2: There's a fight going on. By the time we get
- 5:00Speaker 2: back out there, it has settled. And everything's kind of calmer.
- 5:04Speaker 2: My buddy's bloodied and bruised. And they're getting in their
- 5:07Speaker 2: Uber and leaving.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Keith just pokes his head out, ready to go, but
- 5:11Speaker 2: then walks out and looks around, surveys the situation, and says, nah, man,
- 5:16Speaker 2: they don't want to fight. And then just walks right
- 5:18Speaker 2: back to his cocktail and back into the party. And
- 5:21Speaker 2: that was that. So Hutton, whenever we say they don't
- 5:25Speaker 2: want to fight.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They don't want to fight.
- 5:26Speaker 2: They don't want to fight. That's in reference to the
- 5:28Speaker 2: great Keith Bullock at that party.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So I feel like waking up or last night, yesterday evening,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Seeing the Attorney General take shots at Greg Sankey. You've
- 5:38Speaker 1: got the MAC going after the Big Ten and what
- 5:44Speaker 1: happened with Michigan. Of course, Western Michigan involved in all
- 5:47Speaker 1: of that. LSU releasing the video saying it's the Lane
- 5:50Speaker 1: Kiffin era, right as you have the announcement from the
- 5:54Speaker 1: SEC that they're amending their lawsuit, which could include and
- 5:58Speaker 1: will include a vote, where I believe they need two-thirds
- 6:01Speaker 1: to kick LSU out of the conference. I feel like
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm Bullitt going, these guys really don't want to fight.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But I don't know which side doesn't want the fight.
- 6:11Speaker 1: LSU has been praying for this. They've been wanting to fight.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Or is it just the action of looking like that?
- 6:19Speaker 1: And then there's the SEC. Do they really want to
- 6:23Speaker 1: kick LSU out of the conference? Or is it just
- 6:25Speaker 1: the action that goes with it? They don't really want
- 6:28Speaker 1: the fight. I wonder which side is your buddy, who
- 6:32Speaker 1: will remain... remain nameless, and which side is the former
- 6:37Speaker 1: Army Ranger, but nobody really knows that he can kick
- 6:40Speaker 1: everyone's ass in the building. I'm trying to figure out
- 6:45Speaker 1: who's playing the role of faking it until you make it.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Well, I know who's playing the role of faking it.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It's Lane Kiffin and LSU. They're the ones who relented.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I mean, they have bowed down to the authority, which
- 6:58Speaker 2: I have said throughout they're going to have to do
- 7:00Speaker 2: at some point. If they continue this fight, I believe
- 7:04Speaker 2: the SEC was serious that if they decided to roster
- 7:07Speaker 2: those two players, there was a real chance they were
- 7:10Speaker 2: going to get voted out of the conference. There's a
- 7:13Speaker 2: couple different things going on here, Hutton. They are trying
- 7:17Speaker 2: to push through, and they have to be united on this,
- 7:20Speaker 2: the ability in their bylaws to enforce them as a conference.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Why?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Because they don't want to be lumped into the NCAA
- 7:26Speaker 2: on everything. They don't want to be a part of
- 7:27Speaker 2: every lawsuit the time the NCAA gets sued. But they
- 7:30Speaker 2: have to be united on their own rules to do
- 7:34Speaker 2: that because we know eventually these conferences will break away.
- 7:38Speaker 2: LSU and Lane Kiffin were undermining the SEC's ability to
- 7:41Speaker 2: do what they know they eventually have to do, which
- 7:43Speaker 2: is break away from the NCAA and be their own entity.
- 7:46Speaker 2: They're going against the Protect College Sports Act, which we
- 7:49Speaker 2: all know everybody's behind in the SEC.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Nick Saban... himself is cutting spots that are running during
- 7:54Speaker 1: National College football games. But Saban's also for LSU and Kiffin, though,
- 7:58Speaker 1: at the same time. I don't think anybody's for LSU
- 8:00Speaker 1: and Kiffin. I don't know where that's– I mean, I
- 8:03Speaker 1: watch College Game Day.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I know that they're always buddy-buddy with Kiffin because they know,
- 8:08Speaker 2: but it's all about, now let's get to football, let's
- 8:09Speaker 2: do this. I don't think anybody there is like, you
- 8:12Speaker 2: know what, we should open the door to NFL players
- 8:15Speaker 2: to come back in college.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Universally, no one likes that.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Even Kiffin himself in the beginning was like– I mean,
- 8:21Speaker 2: his response is somebody's going to do it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But I guess I would say, we'll get back to Saban.
- 8:26Speaker 1: My point on Saban is, hey, this guy doesn't want
- 8:28Speaker 1: to fight because he's not even speaking on behalf of it,
- 8:30Speaker 1: one side or the other. So we'll put him in
- 8:33Speaker 1: that category. The SEC, though, Chad, why would you? To me,
- 8:37Speaker 1: it's also benefiting LSU if they're just going to go
- 8:40Speaker 1: independent or the Big Ten jumps in and wants them.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I mean, because we're going to have a super conference
- 8:46Speaker 1: in a few years anyway, right? I mean, that's the
- 8:48Speaker 1: perception I have of this. You're ending up pairing with
- 8:51Speaker 1: them anyway down the road. Do they really want to
- 8:54Speaker 1: kick them out, or is this just part of the
- 8:56Speaker 1: provision of amending a lawsuit?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Well, they don't have to kick them out now because
- 9:01Speaker 2: they're not going to do it. They've added their roster
- 9:04Speaker 2: to 105, so they've excluded without making a big statement
- 9:07Speaker 2: about it. They've withdrawn all ability to add the former
- 9:11Speaker 2: pro players. That was the point of contention with the SEC.
- 9:14Speaker 2: The SEC is the winner here. They won this fight.
- 9:19Speaker 2: They threatened, they threatened, they threatened. Then the reports come
- 9:22Speaker 2: out yesterday from Ross Dellinger and everyone else that says
- 9:25Speaker 2: they are going to take a vote on Thursday. They're
- 9:28Speaker 2: already suing LSU and Lane Kiffin. Now I believe that
- 9:32Speaker 2: lawsuit will eventually be retracted or go away because LSU
- 9:35Speaker 2: is going to do.
- 9:36Speaker 1: What they want. But they're saying.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They're going to vote to remove you from the conference.
- 9:43Speaker 2: At some point, Wade Roos or whoever it is or
- 9:46Speaker 2: somebody at LSU or somebody in the government would have
- 9:49Speaker 2: to be the smarter one.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And say, guys, it is not worth it.
- 9:54Speaker 2: You just beat Clemson 51 to 10. You shouldn't have
- 9:57Speaker 2: been going down this road to begin with. And maybe
- 10:00Speaker 2: we backed you in the beginning, but we have to
- 10:02Speaker 2: do what's right for the entire school. And not just
- 10:05Speaker 2: let Lane Kiffin be petty and say, you can't tell
- 10:08Speaker 2: me what to do. We had John Talti on and
- 10:10Speaker 2: said the biggest part of it is Lane Kiffin does
- 10:12Speaker 2: not like to be told no. But if he's going
- 10:14Speaker 2: to do something, he doesn't want to be scolded by media.
- 10:17Speaker 2: He doesn't want to be scolded by anybody in the SEC.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Even Greg Sankey, who he said he has a pretty
- 10:22Speaker 2: good relationship with, actually.
- 10:24Speaker 1: But he doesn't want to be told no by anyone,
- 10:25Speaker 1: by his own school or anyone else. Now, let me
- 10:28Speaker 1: jump in on this. Is this about Kiffin then, or LSU,
- 10:31Speaker 1: or is this about state government with the attorney general,
- 10:36Speaker 1: congressman going at Sankey, calling him the guy who took
- 10:40Speaker 1: the stand who wouldn't ask simple questions. I think this
- 10:43Speaker 1: is also about Sankey being put on the stand for
- 10:46Speaker 1: three hours and asked questions by judges. And you've got
- 10:50Speaker 1: all this going on when ultimately these guys don't want
- 10:53Speaker 1: to fight. Was it grandstanding? Is this just political maneuvering
- 10:59Speaker 1: to make someone look like they're in power when they're
- 11:05Speaker 1: not that kind of thing. I think it's also about
- 11:07Speaker 1: Greg Sankey doesn't want to be embarrassed. He never is.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Sankey's always in charge. And you know, on that day, he's,
- 11:14Speaker 1: he's not pleading the fifth, but according to the attorney general,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm going to pull up the quotes. She's saying like, well,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean, we got somebody who's leading the conference who
- 11:23Speaker 1: won't answer questions about knowing the rules. No one ever
- 11:26Speaker 1: says that about Greg Sankey, but it's not the conference
- 11:29Speaker 1: doing it. It's not Kiffin. Of course it's, It's the government.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I just find that part fascinating when the news came
- 11:36Speaker 1: out and the fact that LSU or Kiffin didn't roster
- 11:40Speaker 1: the players last weekend, but we have the amendment come
- 11:43Speaker 1: out today for a vote on Thursday.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Well, so let's get the chronology of this right as
- 11:50Speaker 2: we go forward, because the lawsuit was filed as Greg
- 11:54Speaker 2: Sankey was about to take the stand. So That was
- 11:56Speaker 2: going to happen regardless. While he's on the stand-up. That
- 11:59Speaker 2: was timed out to be done. All the paperwork was done.
- 12:02Speaker 2: They were going to file regardless before any of the
- 12:04Speaker 2: questioning that he received there. So there was nothing in
- 12:07Speaker 2: retaliation for that other than they had already been discussing
- 12:11Speaker 2: ousting LSU from the conference. When LSU continued to not
- 12:16Speaker 2: make a statement saying they weren't going to do this
- 12:18Speaker 2: or they weren't really relenting from all of that, then
- 12:20Speaker 2: all of a sudden we get the huge news yesterday
- 12:22Speaker 2: that they are going to vote tomorrow. At this point,
- 12:25Speaker 2: it was two days away. But on Thursday, they are
- 12:28Speaker 2: assembling every president, and they are going to vote to
- 12:31Speaker 2: ouster LSU. This is how serious this thing has gotten.
- 12:35Speaker 2: At that point, that's when LSU did the smart thing
- 12:38Speaker 2: for the first time this whole time, and they relented.
- 12:41Speaker 2: LSU is a clear loser here. They lost this battle.
- 12:43Speaker 2: They tried to go to war for a while with
- 12:45Speaker 2: the SEC. Greg Sankey wins. Greg Sankey now can take
- 12:48Speaker 2: that lawsuit out if he wants, and they can probably
- 12:51Speaker 2: move on. Now here's the bigger loser issue for LSU
- 12:54Speaker 2: they've got to deal with. Daquan Wright and the other
- 12:56Speaker 2: player are going to sue them. They're already saying through
- 12:59Speaker 2: Ryan Downton and their attorneys, we are pursuing legal action
- 13:03Speaker 2: now because our guys and we were duped by LSU
- 13:06Speaker 2: into believing they were going to roster us and they
- 13:08Speaker 2: were going to continue to fight the SEC on this.
- 13:11Speaker 2: They're not going to fight the SEC. I saw Clay
- 13:13Speaker 2: Travis with a pretty good solution to all this. LSU
- 13:16Speaker 2: should pay them what they promised them and make them
- 13:18Speaker 2: graduate assistants for the season and see if that will
- 13:21Speaker 2: appease them. They can be on the sideline, they can
- 13:24Speaker 2: coach for the team, and they make all the money
- 13:26Speaker 2: that they were promised. So there's no money legal issues
- 13:29Speaker 2: going on about what they were offered and what they
- 13:31Speaker 2: were promised and not getting it.
- 13:33Speaker 1: That could be a solution for those players this season.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to think about, you know, no one embarrasses Sankey.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Is this also about Lane's halftime joke?
- 13:42Speaker 2: I mean, I really believe it's about them not being
- 13:44Speaker 2: in the SEC. I think the SEC was serious about
- 13:48Speaker 2: If they didn't do this, they continued to say this,
- 13:51Speaker 2: and LSU didn't blink, they didn't blink, they didn't blink,
- 13:53Speaker 2: and finally, right, I mean, it's no coincidence that, what,
- 13:56Speaker 2: two hours after all those reports came out that they're
- 13:59Speaker 2: about to vote on the oustering of LSU, that LSU
- 14:02Speaker 2: then decides to go ahead and fill out their roster
- 14:04Speaker 2: to 105.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Well, right, but they didn't roster those players anyway. My
- 14:08Speaker 1: point is, as soon as that news came out about
- 14:11Speaker 1: the amendment, you have the national reporters in college football
- 14:13Speaker 1: saying they're not going to vote them out, but this
- 14:16Speaker 1: also includes this option that they're going to, for semantics,
- 14:19Speaker 1: more or less, I'm paraphrasing, they're going to vote on this.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And if I'm a member institution, I want LSU in
- 14:26Speaker 1: the SEC. They're the number one team in the country.
- 14:28Speaker 1: If you look around at all the talk, and we've
- 14:32Speaker 1: been getting our asses kicked in the national championship by
- 14:33Speaker 1: Big Ten. I think that also comes down to it.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I want LSU in the conference.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I want Lane Kiffin to do what the conference wants
- 14:41Speaker 2: to do.
- 14:42Speaker 1: That's the issue.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Of course, brand-wise, you don't want to kick LSU or
- 14:46Speaker 2: that team out of the conference, and you want to
- 14:49Speaker 2: have success. You want a possible college football playoff team,
- 14:51Speaker 2: a probable at this point college football playoff team.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and say it.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Maybe not national champion, but they're likely to get in
- 14:57Speaker 2: the playoff with that team that we saw on Saturday night.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You want them in your conference, but you also can't
- 15:03Speaker 2: have someone You can't have a rogue state defying you
- 15:08Speaker 2: at every corner and saying and doing these things all
- 15:11Speaker 2: on their own. And eventually at the end of this story,
- 15:14Speaker 2: I don't think it's the very end of it, but
- 15:16Speaker 2: the conclusion of this right now is make no mistake
- 15:19Speaker 2: about it.
- 15:20Speaker 1: LSU relented. They lost.
- 15:23Speaker 2: There was a stare down standoff happening between both sides
- 15:27Speaker 2: that were getting reports out either way, through all the
- 15:30Speaker 2: National College football people, and the last report about, we
- 15:34Speaker 2: are voting you out on Thursday. We have everyone assembled.
- 15:38Speaker 2: There is a meeting happening. And within a few hours
- 15:41Speaker 2: and late last night, LSU then decides, let's go ahead
- 15:43Speaker 2: and add those two walk-ons, former walk-ons to the end
- 15:46Speaker 2: of the roster and make it 105. Like they blinked
- 15:50Speaker 2: in this thing. And I think it was finally, it
- 15:53Speaker 2: was the first smart thing LSU has done. was they
- 15:55Speaker 2: blinked and they gave in to the SEC on this.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Why?
- 15:58Speaker 2: Because those dudes aren't worth it. LSU's already great. It
- 16:02Speaker 2: wasn't worth it. The risk far outweighed the reward in
- 16:06Speaker 2: this whole situation with the former pro players.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I would say, though, to go back to, do these
- 16:11Speaker 1: guys want the fight? You can stand up and be Goliath,
- 16:16Speaker 1: which is SEC. LSU is David compared to the Goliath.
- 16:22Speaker 1: But long term, In five years, where's Lane Kiffin coaching?
- 16:26Speaker 1: In the long term, you don't want LSU out of
- 16:28Speaker 1: the SEC if it's just Kiffin being defined and he's
- 16:32Speaker 1: following the rules. I mean, it's about sending the message
- 16:36Speaker 1: without actually taking the action because it would make no
- 16:39Speaker 1: sense to make LSU independent if they're just going to
- 16:42Speaker 1: be Notre Dame and end up in the college football playoff,
- 16:45Speaker 1: one of the 20 teams that they're going to have
- 16:47Speaker 1: every year. We were close on having Ole Miss. They
- 16:51Speaker 1: end up being a part of the nucleus anyway.
- 16:54Speaker 2: We were close to having Ole Miss-LSU be a non-conference
- 16:57Speaker 2: game a week from now, right?
- 16:59Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 16:59Speaker 2: If that were to happen, I was reading that would
- 17:02Speaker 2: officially be a non-conference game if LSU was voted out
- 17:05Speaker 2: of the conference at that point.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Now, Brooks Carter also says this.
- 17:09Speaker 2: He says he does not think the SEC will drop
- 17:11Speaker 2: the lawsuit against LSU because it's about enforcing their own rules.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Now they have federal legal backing, and they also have
- 17:17Speaker 2: LSU relenting in this. So the lawsuit will probably continue
- 17:21Speaker 2: against LSU and Lane Kiffin. I'll also say I don't
- 17:24Speaker 2: think Lane Kiffin agrees with this decision by LSU. I
- 17:28Speaker 2: think that LSU finally decided to turn Lane Kiffin into
- 17:32Speaker 2: what he is, their employee. I mean, it doesn't feel
- 17:36Speaker 2: like it in any of these schools when you're a
- 17:37Speaker 2: high-powered college football coach, right? But he does have a
- 17:40Speaker 2: boss at LSU, and I think the bosses, Hutton, to
- 17:43Speaker 2: your point, said, we're not going to get kicked out
- 17:46Speaker 2: of the SEC because of this one thing, with the
- 17:50Speaker 2: football program this one time.
- 17:53Speaker 1: They finally agree with what I've been saying the whole time.
- 17:55Speaker 1: It's not worth it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: The reward is not worth the risk in this whole
- 17:58Speaker 2: situation for LSU. I think it's as defined as Lane
- 18:01Speaker 2: Kiffin is. I don't think he's the one bowing down here.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I think he was ready to go to war and
- 18:07Speaker 2: make the SEC presidents prove it and actually kick them
- 18:10Speaker 2: out of the conference. I believe his bosses made him
- 18:13Speaker 2: do this.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That's okay. But then I've watched the response from the
- 18:19Speaker 1: government end of this, the legal end of this, and
- 18:22Speaker 1: I think they're now trying to grandstand and use this
- 18:29Speaker 1: for either political reasons or they're like their governor that
- 18:34Speaker 1: doesn't want to back down and just wants to play
- 18:38Speaker 1: professional team owner. for what this is about. Their response
- 18:44Speaker 1: almost initially to all this is also interesting, where they're
- 18:47Speaker 1: just talking about Sankey more than they are talking about
- 18:50Speaker 1: the issues at LSU. Then that begs the question, I
- 18:54Speaker 1: love the polls and the top five, top tens, whatever
- 18:58Speaker 1: comes out, on who would actually, it's a good hypothetical,
- 19:00Speaker 1: who would replace LSU in the conference. I think we
- 19:05Speaker 1: touched on this, the most likely answer. where Miami came up.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You had North Carolina, Chad, as your number one. I
- 19:13Speaker 1: think Clay did, too. Is that right?
- 19:17Speaker 2: I had Notre Dame number one, but that to me
- 19:19Speaker 2: is always going to be the golden goose for everyone, right?
- 19:22Speaker 1: That's a good point. You left out the obvious one
- 19:25Speaker 1: on the graphic, maybe. Yeah, yeah. But Carolina would certainly
- 19:30Speaker 1: tie in there. Others, for sure. But, man, yeah, if
- 19:33Speaker 1: you replace LSU with Notre Dame, now we're, you know,
- 19:38Speaker 1: Now we're talking.
- 19:39Speaker 2: If that was an actual possibility, yeah, that's one that
- 19:42Speaker 2: you take. I would take Notre Dame in a conference
- 19:45Speaker 2: over LSU from a brand standpoint, but there's not many
- 19:49Speaker 2: others that you would take over LSU.
- 19:51Speaker 1: North Carolina is a really good brand.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I would still want LSU, uh, in my conference for
- 19:55Speaker 2: the football power and prowess of that, that program.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Uh, yeah.
- 19:59Speaker 2: And Clay had Florida state, Miami, you know, a lot
- 20:01Speaker 2: of the Virginia tech was one Clemson, I think, North Carolina.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I think of the programs that feel the most SEC. Yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I think Clemson's way up there. I think Virginia Tech
- 20:13Speaker 1: is way up there, too. Virginia Tech is good. In
- 20:15Speaker 1: terms of their.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Passion for the team and the way they treat college
- 20:18Speaker 2: football and just being kind of the small town in Blacksburg,
- 20:22Speaker 2: it makes a lot of sense.
- 20:23Speaker 1: But now we don't have to think about it because
- 20:26Speaker 1: LSU has backed down. They've bowed down to daddy, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: they're going to stay in the conference. And now, again,
- 20:32Speaker 1: it goes back to Courts versus the state governments versus
- 20:36Speaker 1: the conferences and college football. And then there's the MAC
- 20:39Speaker 1: and the rules and what happened, what didn't happen, what
- 20:43Speaker 1: was enforced, how it was enforced. Post-game initially with Michigan,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Western Michigan, everybody was just kind of neutral. Closer to
- 20:52Speaker 1: neutral than nuclear on behalf of Western Michigan. That goes
- 20:57Speaker 1: back to following the lie with your conference and letting
- 21:00Speaker 1: the bosses know. handle business behind the scenes and now publicly.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Let's get into that coming up. And much more to discuss.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Busy morning here, sportofstate.com, and with Hutton and Withrow, top

- 22:22Speaker 1: We've got some games tonight. NFL-wise, we'll discuss a little
- 22:25Speaker 1: bit later in the show. John McClain will join us.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I feel like I need to retract my bet already.
- 22:31Speaker 2: We've got to go in for the bundle later. I'm
- 22:34Speaker 2: very apprehensive, and I think you know what the one
- 22:36Speaker 2: part will be. It's the NFL part of my bet.
- 22:38Speaker 2: We'll get to it later. I'm going to stick by it,
- 22:41Speaker 2: but I have been going back and forth all morning
- 22:43Speaker 2: on whether or not I should take away one leg
- 22:46Speaker 2: of my three-leg parlay.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I was going to jump in and say, whatever your
- 22:49Speaker 1: initial thoughts were, stick with it because it'll end up
- 22:52Speaker 1: hitting now if you removed it. Now it won't hit
- 22:54Speaker 1: because you stuck with it, Chad. Correct. That's how we
- 22:56Speaker 1: view it. We're going to win either way. Western Michigan
- 23:00Speaker 1: will not win either way. The MAAC will not win
- 23:02Speaker 1: either way. But thank you to the conference and to leadership.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And also, I felt like the leadership of Western Michigan
- 23:10Speaker 1: handled it really well in the real-time moments of everything
- 23:15Speaker 1: going down with how Michigan won the game this past weekend.
- 23:20Speaker 1: At first, they're celebrating on the field. The players are there.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And then they still have to give up the Hail Mary.
- 23:27Speaker 1: which they do. That's a factor here. You have fans
- 23:32Speaker 1: storming the field against you because they're emotional about winning
- 23:37Speaker 1: the game. Imagine losing that game and the fallout not
- 23:41Speaker 1: being just pure fury because the president did speak at
- 23:46Speaker 1: the game post-game after the coach spoke. They both handled
- 23:50Speaker 1: it well, and they let the conference do what they're doing.
- 23:53Speaker 1: This won't be remembered come college football playoff time because
- 23:56Speaker 1: the committee also released a statement about LSU saying that
- 23:59Speaker 1: they're not going to get involved in whatever they're doing.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We're just going to go by the rules of selection.
- 24:05Speaker 1: This is also not going to be remembered long-term. We
- 24:09Speaker 1: will remember, though, that Western Michigan won the football game.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Well, so Western Michigan has appealed to the NCAA, to
- 24:17Speaker 2: the College Football Playoff Committee— and to everyone.
- 24:20Speaker 1: To get that game overturned. Right.
- 24:22Speaker 2: That the clock had hit zero and that it was
- 24:26Speaker 2: done and that they won the game. Do I think
- 24:28Speaker 2: that the NCAA and the College Football Playoff Committee is
- 24:31Speaker 2: going to come back and overrule the decision and hand
- 24:34Speaker 2: it over to Western Michigan?
- 24:36Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And here's why, okay?
- 24:39Speaker 2: Because the NCAA news leaked this morning, Hutton, that they're
- 24:43Speaker 2: sending a memo out to every single member institution and
- 24:47Speaker 2: every single conference saying, saying, here is the rule on
- 24:51Speaker 2: the clock. And it's exactly what I said on Monday.
- 24:55Speaker 2: The clock is the clock. There are no such thing
- 24:57Speaker 2: as two clocks. You go by the clock in the stadium.
- 25:01Speaker 2: You go by the clock that is synced up on
- 25:02Speaker 2: the broadcast that everyone sees who's watching the game because
- 25:05Speaker 2: it's the stadium clock. The fact that there was a
- 25:08Speaker 2: discrepancy in the in-house replay system for the Big Ten
- 25:13Speaker 2: with the game clock seen in the stadium.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Never go with that second clock if there's any discrepancy. Now,
- 25:19Speaker 2: the NCAA and everyone could say, we just made this
- 25:22Speaker 2: a rule across every league that's written in, so we
- 25:26Speaker 2: can't do anything about something that happened before that happened.
- 25:29Speaker 2: So the result stays. Again, what are the chances?
- 25:33Speaker 1: I think it's 90-10.
- 25:34Speaker 2: They're going to uphold what happened in the game in
- 25:37Speaker 2: Michigan 1.
- 25:38Speaker 1: On a Hail Mary.
- 25:39Speaker 2: But is there a 10% chance because the NCAA is
- 25:42Speaker 2: admitting fault here in what they're sending in this memo
- 25:44Speaker 2: to every member institution?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Maybe. I also just assumed, Hutton, when Western.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Michigan and the MAAC, they were so okay with everything
- 25:53Speaker 2: that happened. I'm thinking, well, that's probably because they just
- 25:55Speaker 2: cut a check or cut a deal with the Big
- 25:58Speaker 2: Ten to get more games against their teams and get paydays.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And the Big Ten was probably telling them, hey, let's
- 26:05Speaker 2: even get you guys some more games against Michigan or
- 26:08Speaker 2: someone else.
- 26:08Speaker 1: We'll make sure we do that in the future.
- 26:10Speaker 2: We don't need you to raise hell about what happened
- 26:13Speaker 2: at the end of this game tonight in order to
- 26:15Speaker 2: do that. I thought there may be some sort of
- 26:17Speaker 2: secret agreement about future monetary opportunities for the MAAC in
- 26:22Speaker 2: regards to the Big Ten, not just in football also.
- 26:25Speaker 1: But maybe in other sports.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But now that I see Western Michigan a few days
- 26:29Speaker 2: later has come back and basically pulled the line from
- 26:32Speaker 2: your favorite movie, Wolf of Wall Street, and said, you
- 26:34Speaker 2: know what?
- 26:35Speaker 1: We're not leaving.
- 26:36Speaker 2: After further review, they were up there ready with the
- 26:38Speaker 2: microphone to submit to Michigan and the Big Ten and said,
- 26:42Speaker 2: upon further investigation, you're wrong, we're right, and we're going
- 26:46Speaker 2: to fight you. So the way I understood this, though,
- 26:51Speaker 2: The replay officials went by a dedicated camera focused on
- 26:56Speaker 2: the stadium clock. And it was the broadcast clock that
- 27:00Speaker 2: was out of sync with the stadium. There wasn't a
- 27:04Speaker 2: clock separate from the one in the stadium. There was
- 27:06Speaker 2: a camera fixed on that clock that was being used.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Maybe we're saying the same thing.
- 27:14Speaker 1: No, I think what they had was, it was their.
- 27:18Speaker 2: whatever their TV system is, replay system that they have
- 27:23Speaker 2: in there. That was the one that they went by
- 27:26Speaker 2: that was off. So what they're looking at on the
- 27:28Speaker 2: replay was not exactly tied up and linked up.
- 27:32Speaker 1: With the actual stadium clock. And they went without.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So they, Western Michigan took their microphone. Do they have a,
- 27:41Speaker 1: do they have a big enough speaker for people to
- 27:43Speaker 1: pay attention right now? Cause everyone is news wise. I've,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you and I may be one of the few talking
- 27:50Speaker 1: about Western Michigan today with, with how quickly we move on.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I would also add interest briefly, Chad, the NCAA and
- 27:59Speaker 1: their relationship with Michigan and this football program over the
- 28:02Speaker 1: last couple of years. And who likes who, you know,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it's the only place so upset with Georgia or Alabama
- 28:10Speaker 1: or whoever they'll take it out on Tennessee is the
- 28:12Speaker 1: running joke, right? Like, What about when it comes to
- 28:15Speaker 1: the Michigan Wolverines? I wonder where the vibes are, the
- 28:19Speaker 1: vibe check. Because earlier, you had the worst football vibes
- 28:23Speaker 1: in college football. And the Wolverines, well, they made your list.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Here's Chad's worst vibe. We're going to compare it to
- 28:30Speaker 1: the best. You had Michigan at number four. Clemson right
- 28:34Speaker 1: there with you atop this list. Rutgers, you lose to UMass.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I haven't thought about UMass since John Calipari was coaching basketball.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Wisconsin seems to be limp and dead man walking head coach.
- 28:50Speaker 2: By the way, Wisconsin had the strongest response to this.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Wisconsin fans, when we posted this list.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That was your point, though. They were the opposite of
- 28:58Speaker 1: what I– they were just like, no, we're fine. I mean,
- 29:00Speaker 1: we lost to Notre Dame. Who cares?
- 29:01Speaker 2: This team's going to be just fine. They're about to
- 29:03Speaker 2: reel off six straight wins. Everything's going to be okay.
- 29:06Speaker 2: They were very defensive about it, saying Wisconsin should be
- 29:09Speaker 2: nowhere near on this list even, much less third.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Their vibes are good, according to them. Well, I mean,
- 29:16Speaker 1: we could point to Indiana and say they get it done.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Well, hey, you know, the rest of the Big Ten
- 29:20Speaker 2: is thrilled to hear that. Oh, you're fine with where
- 29:22Speaker 2: you are right now? Great. It's a great point. Good job, Badgers. Yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 2: you're doing exactly what you need to be doing. Keep
- 29:29Speaker 2: Luke Fickle forever is what their conference rivals are thinking.
- 29:32Speaker 1: How much you guys are happy with that? And now
- 29:34Speaker 1: let's get to your best list. You can unveil it.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I wonder if there will be a program where there's
- 29:37Speaker 1: a fan base that says we're no more close to
- 29:39Speaker 1: this list. Oh, I feel terrible on this Wednesday. Are
- 29:44Speaker 1: you kidding me?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Top five best vibes in college football. Western Michigan's number one.
- 29:48Speaker 2: They won that football game. They're America's sweetheart right now.
- 29:51Speaker 2: America knows they won the game. The only people arguing
- 29:54Speaker 2: that they did not win the game are in maize
- 29:56Speaker 2: and blue. They look really good. Lance Taylor looks the
- 30:00Speaker 2: part of a great future head football coach at a
- 30:03Speaker 2: power conference. Unfortunately for Western Michigan, they will lose him
- 30:06Speaker 2: after this year. I'm almost certain of it. But now
- 30:09Speaker 2: they're fighting the NCAA. They're fighting Michigan. They're fighting the
- 30:13Speaker 2: Big Ten. I'm putting Western Michigan at the top of
- 30:16Speaker 2: my list in terms of best vibes. Hutton number two
- 30:19Speaker 2: is a guy that we know in Charles Huff and Memphis.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Coming off that win over UNLV, then they come back
- 30:26Speaker 2: and they beat Arkansas State. They weren't a big favorite
- 30:28Speaker 2: in that game, but they win pretty easily against Butch
- 30:31Speaker 2: Jones and Arkansas State. So Memphis is number two on
- 30:35Speaker 2: the list for me because of the way they started
- 30:37Speaker 2: that season and what we're calling week zero with that
- 30:40Speaker 2: win at UNLV. And everything that he said about the
- 30:43Speaker 2: program and we're the Navy SEALs of training, we're We
- 30:47Speaker 2: get after it more than anyone else. We don't have
- 30:48Speaker 2: music at practice. We're all about ball all the time,
- 30:51Speaker 2: and it's showing. I think you've got to feel good
- 30:54Speaker 2: if you're a Memphis Tigers fan right now. Hutton, one
- 30:56Speaker 2: that I did not expect to have after one week. Colorado,
- 31:01Speaker 2: that number three. Prime is back, baby. He's all the
- 31:05Speaker 2: way back. He had the health problems. He even says
- 31:08Speaker 2: he was pretty checked out a year ago when they
- 31:11Speaker 2: weren't good his first season without his sons on the team.
- 31:14Speaker 2: They were a miserable football team last year. I don't
- 31:16Speaker 2: know how they did it, but they win a game, what, 14-13,
- 31:21Speaker 2: I think was the final score against Georgia Tech. Yes.
- 31:25Speaker 2: A very weird ending where they finally get a drive
- 31:27Speaker 2: going and get it done.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Georgia Tech, they don't score an offensive touchdown. I mean,
- 31:32Speaker 1: think about that. Colorado's defense, much maligned, really for the
- 31:36Speaker 1: past few years. They could run the ball.
- 31:38Speaker 2: They shut out Georgia Tech with offensive touchdowns. The one
- 31:42Speaker 2: Georgia Tech touchdown– was a kickoff return for TD.
- 31:45Speaker 1: They stopped Georgia Tech from running the ball. That's kind
- 31:50Speaker 1: of unheard of.
- 31:51Speaker 2: We were laughing at Colorado for how small they looked
- 31:53Speaker 2: in those videos they were posting. Yes. How they weren't physical.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Dion's even saying, I thought we were small. I thought
- 31:59Speaker 2: we weren't physical.
- 32:01Speaker 1: So Colorado's got a few more to go. It didn't
- 32:04Speaker 1: allow the reporters to report on practice. One of the
- 32:06Speaker 1: best wins in all of college football.
- 32:08Speaker 2: If not the bet, going to Georgia Tech on a
- 32:10Speaker 2: Thursday night to open the season when we weren't expecting it,
- 32:14Speaker 2: no one else was, and Colorado winning, they've got to
- 32:16Speaker 2: feel good.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Third best vibes. Number four, Miami.
- 32:20Speaker 2: They beat the dog piss out of Stanford on a
- 32:22Speaker 2: Friday night. Hutton called it with his hard rock bet.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Speaking of hard rock, not only did they beat the
- 32:27Speaker 2: dog piss out of Stanford... when Florida State was getting
- 32:30Speaker 2: the dog piss beat out of them nationally because they
- 32:33Speaker 2: couldn't get their damn lights turned on, leave it to
- 32:36Speaker 2: Miami to troll them by posting, lights are working great here,
- 32:40Speaker 2: and a shot of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami doing
- 32:43Speaker 2: a light show on that night on the stadium that.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Their LED lights were working perfectly.
- 32:49Speaker 2: So Miami goes on the road, not just on the road,
- 32:52Speaker 2: goes across the country to Stanford, destroys Andrew Luck and
- 32:56Speaker 2: his book club and the Stanford Cardinal, Comes back home,
- 33:00Speaker 2: is watching their rival have a power outage, and they
- 33:03Speaker 2: troll them during the power outage before their rival loses.
- 33:06Speaker 2: It's pretty good vibes. In terms of the hatred of
- 33:08Speaker 2: college football, we were able to do that, Hutt. Pretty
- 33:11Speaker 2: damn good vibes there for the Miami Hurricanes. Speaking of Hurricanes,
- 33:14Speaker 2: how about the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa getting it done?
- 33:18Speaker 2: Tulsa at home defeats Oklahoma State in-state rival 24-10. Yes,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I said rival because, let's face it, they're rivals now.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Tulsa's got the upper hand on that program, which is
- 33:29Speaker 2: wild to think about how far Oklahoma State has fallen.
- 33:33Speaker 2: It's why Oklahoma State made my list of top five
- 33:35Speaker 2: worst vibes. But Tulsa and Coach Trey Lamb, they're number
- 33:40Speaker 2: five on the list, best vibes in college football.
- 33:42Speaker 1: There you have it, Hudden. We did the bad. We
- 33:44Speaker 1: did the good. Worst vibes, best vibes in college football.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Honorable mention, Ole Miss. They win on the last-second field.
- 33:55Speaker 1: They get that done against one of the few big
- 33:59Speaker 1: conference-versus-conference and ranked-versus-ranked matchups in college football. That's one of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the best matchups of the weekend. And they don't have
- 34:06Speaker 1: Kiffin doing this there. That's internally got to be Vespas. Counter-argument, though.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Ole Miss would appear on this list if LSU would
- 34:16Speaker 2: have looked bad and even won close in that game.
- 34:19Speaker 2: But with LSU and Lane Kiffin winning 51-10 out of
- 34:22Speaker 2: the gates and being argued as the best team in America,
- 34:26Speaker 2: that's not going to sit well with Ole Miss fans.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Because you're always going to.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Have one eye on Baton Rouge and say, whatever that
- 34:32Speaker 2: guy does, I'm mad. Whatever good he does in winning
- 34:36Speaker 2: football games, I'm going to be angry. That's the reason
- 34:38Speaker 2: I didn't include them in the top five. But certainly,
- 34:40Speaker 2: I mean, you feel like you've got a football coach
- 34:43Speaker 2: who cares about the players. You've got a good vibe
- 34:46Speaker 2: going with Trinidad Chambliss. That game was a little closer
- 34:49Speaker 2: than I expected. On Sunday night, so I don't feel
- 34:53Speaker 2: great about that. But yeah, that's a big win. I
- 34:57Speaker 2: think Louisville is going to be a lot better in
- 34:58Speaker 2: the ACC than maybe we expected coming into the season.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I agree. Final thoughts on this with Western Michigan. It's
- 35:05Speaker 1: a good point with best vibes. They will now host Monmouth.
- 35:10Speaker 1: May God have mercy on your soul. It's a 27.5
- 35:12Speaker 1: point spread, Chad. I feel like this is a preview
- 35:14Speaker 1: for our Hard Rock Lock.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I think that this is a game that we must play, Hutton.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I don't know how we're going to play it. Do
- 35:21Speaker 2: we think there's a letdown with Lance Taylor's team coming
- 35:24Speaker 2: out this game?
- 35:25Speaker 1: No, this coach. They dial up 1-800-YOU-KNOW-WHAT in this game.
- 35:29Speaker 1: This entire week will be a halftime speech that Kiffin
- 35:32Speaker 1: just delivered to LSU, basically. And then Colorado will have
- 35:36Speaker 1: Weber State. That's also an interesting game we may be
- 35:41Speaker 1: able to play there.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Do you think you walk in if you're Lance Taylor
- 35:43Speaker 2: before the game against Monmouth, and no matter if it's
- 35:46Speaker 2: true or not, you tell your team that the NCAA
- 35:48Speaker 2: came back and you won that first game?
- 35:50Speaker 3: You're now 1-0.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Congratulations. And get everybody cheering. Now let's go out there
- 35:54Speaker 2: and beat Monmouth. Now that we're about to go 2-0
- 35:56Speaker 2: in the season.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And then right when the game was like, just kidding.
- 36:00Speaker 1: No one did that.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Since they don't have their phones, they wouldn't know one
- 36:02Speaker 2: way or the other if that was true.
- 36:05Speaker 1: In the Kiffin voice, the voice cracking, high-pitched, do you
- 36:10Speaker 1: guys feel like you're 0-1-1? Yeah, we're 0-1. We're 1-0.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Let's keep the undefeated season going. Yes. Chad, let's recap
- 36:18Speaker 1: your best vibes.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Best vibes in college football after one week. Let's go 5-1.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Number five, Tulsa getting the win over in-state rival Oklahoma State,
- 36:29Speaker 2: further burying the Cowboys program that has not won an
- 36:32Speaker 2: FBS game since 2024, September, two years ago. Since they won,
- 36:38Speaker 2: Tulsa continues to throw dirt on the grave of Oklahoma State.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Big win for them.
- 36:43Speaker 2: How about Miami going across the country, beating the hell
- 36:47Speaker 2: out of Stanford, coming back to Miami and trolling Florida
- 36:51Speaker 2: State in the middle of a power outage by saying
- 36:53Speaker 2: lights are working great here at Hard Rock Stadium and
- 36:55Speaker 2: flashing those lights on. Love it from the Hurricanes. Number three,
- 36:59Speaker 2: Colorado Buffaloes. Coach Prime is back. He's healthier. He's feeling better.
- 37:03Speaker 2: He's making fun of people who call his team small.
- 37:06Speaker 2: He's not giving up an offensive touchdown on the road
- 37:09Speaker 2: at Georgia Tech. Number two, Coach Charles Huff, Memphis Tigers.
- 37:12Speaker 2: One of the biggest wins of the college football season,
- 37:14Speaker 2: going to UNLV, beating Dan Mullen. And that team, they
- 37:17Speaker 2: come back home, they beat Arkansas State. They're feeling great
- 37:20Speaker 2: in the Bluff City. Number one, Western Michigan Broncos. They're 1-0.
- 37:25Speaker 1: You know it. I know it.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Everyone but Dave Portnoy knows it. And Heather Denich. They
- 37:31Speaker 2: rightfully won that game. Western Michigan. Number one with a
- 37:35Speaker 2: win in Ann Arbor against the Michigan Wolverines. Let's just
- 37:38Speaker 2: continue to say it, Hunt, even though it's not going
- 37:39Speaker 2: to be overturned.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Victory.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Let's just act like Michigan has one loss the remainder
- 37:43Speaker 2: of the season. So how do we think Michigan is
- 37:45Speaker 2: going to bounce back from that loss to Western Michigan
- 37:47Speaker 2: against Oklahoma this week at home?
- 37:49Speaker 1: Let's just speak it into existence. They're Central Florida. They're
- 37:53Speaker 1: the champion. They're the national champs. Yeah. Scott Frost would
- 37:57Speaker 1: approve of this. I wonder how Dabo would respond to
- 38:01Speaker 1: Chad's worst vibes list. I have an idea. He would
- 38:06Speaker 1: be defiant. We'll give you the example next here on
- 38:09Speaker 1: Huntley Withrow. Huntley Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet this morning, sportandstate.com.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Perfect 10. Perfect 10 show coming up every day. The
- 38:19Speaker 1: name says it all for Perfect 10 Mortgage as well.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Apply in 10 minutes. You close in 10 days. That's
- 38:24Speaker 1: the whole idea. It's a mortgage that's simple, fast, and fair.
- 38:28Speaker 1: 10 minutes, start to finish, right from your phone. There's
- 38:31Speaker 1: no stack of paperwork. And Chad, you're not sitting across
- 38:34Speaker 1: the desk from a banker who's talking down to you.
- 38:37Speaker 2: No, you're talking to a human being that cares about
- 38:39Speaker 2: your situation, that cares that you're juggling so many credit
- 38:42Speaker 2: cards right now and you're drowning in that minimum payment,
- 38:45Speaker 2: knows you need to get into a better situation. And hey,
- 38:47Speaker 2: if you're buying new construction, you can ask about the
- 38:50Speaker 2: builder program, builder-funded rate buy-downs that can get you a
- 38:53Speaker 2: rate the bank can't print. Date the rate, marry the house,
- 38:56Speaker 2: put it on a t-shirt, get the house you want now,
- 38:58Speaker 2: refinance when rates come down. Straight talk on what you
- 39:00Speaker 2: actually qualify for. Built for real people, not paperwork. Perfect10Mortgage. com
- 39:05Speaker 2: or call them 855-789-1010. That's Perfect10Mortgage. com. Perfect 10 Mortgage is
- 39:11Speaker 2: an equal housing lender. Perfect 10 Mortgage is a DBA
- 39:13Speaker 2: or network funding LP. NMLS number 2297, equal housing lender.
- 39:17Speaker 1: All borrowers must qualify. This advertisement is.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Not a promise to make alone. Sam in the YouTube chat,
- 39:25Speaker 2: big Ole Miss guy, says, can confirm. Vibes are shaky
- 39:28Speaker 2: with Ole Miss right now. because of how great LSU
- 39:31Speaker 2: looked in that opening game. So there you have it.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Another good reason they're not in that top 10. They
- 39:37Speaker 2: do not like watching Lane Kiffin succeed to the level
- 39:40Speaker 2: he did on Saturday night. And that Ole Miss home
- 39:43Speaker 2: game could look a little bit different in the eyes
- 39:45Speaker 2: of Rebel fans when they saw what LSU looked like
- 39:47Speaker 2: against Clemson.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Chad, we've got primary complaint coming up in about 15 minutes. First, though,
- 39:52Speaker 1: defiant Dabo. A familiar tone from yesterday's presser, huh? Let's
- 40:01Speaker 1: do a little study here, shall we? Yeah, we shall.
- 40:03Speaker 2: A study in time, a study in evolution, a study
- 40:06Speaker 2: in change, or a lack thereof, okay? Yesterday, we revisited
- 40:11Speaker 2: a moment with Tyler and Spartanburg calling the Dabo Sweeney
- 40:14Speaker 2: coaches show Back in 2023, when Clemson at that time
- 40:18Speaker 2: was 4-4, and he goes all in on Dabo Sweeney.
- 40:22Speaker 2: He's talking about, why are we paying you the money?
- 40:25Speaker 1: I'm a fan of religion. I'm a man of faith.
- 40:29Speaker 1: He's going into.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Every possible New Testament book to pull how angry he
- 40:34Speaker 2: is at Dabo for being 4-4. At the time, it
- 40:36Speaker 2: sounded ridiculous because... Dabo Sweeney had won so much leading
- 40:40Speaker 2: up to then. It's gotten shakier from that point on.
- 40:43Speaker 2: But we're going to give you a little example of
- 40:46Speaker 2: the change or the lack thereof in Dabo Sweeney because
- 40:49Speaker 2: the biggest knock on Dabo is that he is unwilling
- 40:52Speaker 2: to adapt. In the words of Brad Pitt in Moneyball,
- 40:55Speaker 2: adapt or die.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Right.
- 40:57Speaker 1: And he is unwilling to adapt. So here is Dabo Sweeney.
- 41:00Speaker 2: We're going to start with his response to Tyler and
- 41:03Speaker 2: Spartanburg getting called out on his coach's show. Listen to
- 41:06Speaker 2: Dabo back in 2023.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Do you regret anything about your off-season roster construction right now?
- 41:13Speaker 3: Chapel, you come with all these questions. I'll tell you,
- 41:17Speaker 3: you're the gotcha guy. No, I don't. I don't, man.
- 41:20Speaker 3: I regret being 0-1-1 right now. I regret that.
- 41:24Speaker 5: But, no, we're– can you ask me that at the
- 41:28Speaker 5: end of the season?
- 41:29Speaker 3: You know, the season isn't over. We've got one game.
- 41:32Speaker 3: We've got 11-1.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Sure we will.
- 41:33Speaker 3: What if we go 11-1? You promised me you'd ask
- 41:37Speaker 3: me that then? Okay, good.
- 41:38Speaker 4: I'll answer it.
- 41:38Speaker 3: All right?
- 41:39Speaker 5: But I'm not answering questions like that, you know, Chapel.
- 41:42Speaker 5: I know that's your role and that's in this environment,
- 41:45Speaker 5: you know, to be the guy that wants to create
- 41:48Speaker 5: all the controversy and ask the controversial questions.
- 41:51Speaker 3: If that's who you are, that's fine. I get it.
- 41:54Speaker 3: But I'll answer that. We played one game. One game.
- 41:58Speaker 3: All right? Did you play football? They give you 12 games,
- 42:06Speaker 3: and at the end of the year, you count them up.
- 42:08Speaker 3: All right?
- 42:09Speaker 5: And, you know, that's when those type of questions are
- 42:14Speaker 5: fair to me. You know, not after one game. Two,
- 42:18Speaker 5: maybe the best team in the country. Maybe the best
- 42:21Speaker 5: team in the country.
- 42:23Speaker 3: All right?
- 42:25Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Other people have good teams and coaches and things like that, too.
- 42:28Speaker 5: So I give them credit. We got 11 more games.
- 42:32Speaker 5: to go battle.
- 42:33Speaker 3: And we'll count them up.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Count them up.
- 42:37Speaker 3: You can ask me whatever question you want.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Chad, that was certainly not Tyler and Spartanburg, but that
- 42:44Speaker 1: was the question from Chappell. Two questions. First, I wonder
- 42:50Speaker 1: if Chappell's now banned from getting a credential by the
- 42:53Speaker 1: University of Clemson based on that question that was just
- 42:57Speaker 1: out of line, apparently, according to their head coach, which
- 43:00Speaker 1: is a very fair question. And number two, whatever he says,
- 43:05Speaker 1: let's count them up west. So he wants to ask
- 43:07Speaker 1: the question if they go 11-1, do you regret what
- 43:09Speaker 1: you did in the offseason, which is also really funny.
- 43:12Speaker 1: But that's certainly a great tone.
- 43:14Speaker 2: I love the, oh, yeah, you're the guy. You're the
- 43:16Speaker 2: guy who stirs it up, and that's what you're here
- 43:18Speaker 2: to do. I call him by, you're the gotcha guy.
- 43:20Speaker 2: You're the gotcha guy.
- 43:22Speaker 1: The reality is when you're bad, every question's a gotcha question.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Like there's no.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Whatever you ask sounds like a gotcha question because there's
- 43:30Speaker 2: not much.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Of an explanation.
- 43:32Speaker 2: But when you ask, hey, what do you think about
- 43:34Speaker 2: your roster management over the offseason? When you look at
- 43:37Speaker 2: that first game, a 51-10 loss, how do you feel
- 43:40Speaker 2: about it? It is going to come across as a
- 43:42Speaker 2: gotcha question. So, guys, do we have the 2023? That
- 43:45Speaker 2: was yesterday. That was Dabo Sweeney yesterday in 2026. Now
- 43:49Speaker 2: when you hear him in 2023 respond to Tyler and Spartanburg,
- 43:55Speaker 2: you're the judge, the audience out there. You tell us
- 43:58Speaker 2: if you hear some similarities in his style.
- 44:01Speaker 4: What's this guy's name?
- 44:02Speaker 6: Tyler.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Hey, Tyler.
- 44:03Speaker 6: I've listened to enough of you, Tyler. You can have
- 44:07Speaker 6: all your opinions that you want. I don't know how
- 44:10Speaker 6: old you are.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Don't really care. But let me tell you something.
- 44:15Speaker 6: We won 11 games last year, and you're part of
- 44:18Speaker 6: the problem, to be honest with you, because that is
- 44:20Speaker 6: part of the problem. It's people like you that all
- 44:24Speaker 6: you do is the appreciation– The expectation is greater than
- 44:28Speaker 6: the appreciation.
- 44:29Speaker 4: And that's the problem.
- 44:31Speaker 6: And so, you know, we've won 12 10-plus win seasons
- 44:35Speaker 6: in a row. That's happened three times in 150 years.
- 44:39Speaker 4: So if you want to know why.
- 44:40Speaker 6: Clemson ain't sniffed a national championship for 35 years.
- 44:44Speaker 4: We've won two in seven years.
- 44:46Speaker 6: And there's only two other teams that can say that,
- 44:48Speaker 6: Georgia and Alabama.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Okay?
- 44:51Speaker 6: Is this a bad year? Yeah, and it's my responsibility.
- 44:56Speaker 6: Take 100% responsibility for it. But all this bull crap
- 44:59Speaker 6: you're thinking, all these narratives you read, listen, man, you
- 45:02Speaker 6: can have your opinion all you want, and you can.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Apply for the job, and good luck to you. I
- 45:07Speaker 4: love that. But to answer your question, we're second in
- 45:10Speaker 4: draft picks.
- 45:12Speaker 6: We've graduated 98% of our guys.
- 45:14Speaker 4: We're second in wins.
- 45:17Speaker 6: If you want to know why, again, I'm telling you,
- 45:20Speaker 6: we're not perfect. There's a lot of teams that, you know,
- 45:22Speaker 6: Frank Howard never had a bad year. Coach Ford never
- 45:24Speaker 6: had a bad year. Coach K never had a bad
- 45:28Speaker 6: year in basketball. People have a bad year. But part
- 45:31Speaker 6: of the problem is the appreciation. I used to tell
- 45:38Speaker 6: people all the time, I'd say, what's the difference in Clemson?
- 45:40Speaker 6: Let me tell you, at some places there's an expectation,
- 45:43Speaker 6: but at Clemson there's an appreciation. What's happened at Clemson
- 45:48Speaker 6: is we've won so.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Much It used to be the fun's in the winning.
- 45:55Speaker 6: Now, even when you win, people like you complain and
- 46:01Speaker 6: criticize the coaches and question everything.
- 46:05Speaker 4: People like you.
- 46:06Speaker 6: When I hired Tony Elliott to be the offensive coordinator
- 46:09Speaker 6: who never called a play in his life, I'm sure
- 46:12Speaker 6: you were critical then.
- 46:14Speaker 4: He took us to two national championships.
- 46:16Speaker 6: People like you who just love to destroy people with
- 46:22Speaker 6: your comments.
- 46:23Speaker 4: I'm sure you've never made any bad decisions.
- 46:26Speaker 6: I'm sure you've lived a perfect life. I'm sure you've
- 46:30Speaker 6: led a bunch of people. I'm sure you do your job.
- 46:34Speaker 6: So to answer your question, I started as the lowest
- 46:37Speaker 6: paid coach in this freaking business. And I'm where I
- 46:41Speaker 6: am because I've worked my ass off. every single day.
- 46:45Speaker 6: And I ain't going to let some smart ass kid
- 46:48Speaker 6: get on this phone.
- 46:49Speaker 4: And create this stuff. So if you got a problem
- 46:52Speaker 4: with that, I don't care. All right.
- 46:55Speaker 6: I work for, for the board of trustees, the president
- 46:57Speaker 6: and the AD. And if they're tired of me leading
- 47:00Speaker 6: this program, all they gotta do is let me know.
- 47:01Speaker 6: I'll go somewhere else where there is an appreciation.
- 47:04Speaker 4: All right. It's not just winning. It's how you win.
- 47:08Speaker 6: And we are in a, this is a tough year,
- 47:10Speaker 6: but we've had 12, 12, 10 plus win seasons in
- 47:13Speaker 6: a row.
- 47:14Speaker 4: 12.
- 47:15Speaker 6: We lost to Tennessee last year. They won 11 games
- 47:17Speaker 6: for the first time in like 20 years.
- 47:19Speaker 4: We've had eight, 11.
- 47:20Speaker 6: Win seasons in whatever, 11 years or whatever. We've won
- 47:24Speaker 6: two national championships. Clemson went 35 years.
- 47:28Speaker 2: All right.
- 47:28Speaker 6: Probably since before you were born your whole freaking life.
- 47:32Speaker 6: And we've won two in seven years and we earned
- 47:36Speaker 6: it and we beat the best of.
- 47:37Speaker 4: The best to do it. The best of the best. 12,
- 47:41Speaker 4: 10 plus wins. So if you want to know why,
- 47:44Speaker 4: that's why. Am I perfect? No, I'm far from it.
- 47:49Speaker 4: I am. And I am a man of faith.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 47:53Speaker 4: All right. I'm 53 years old and there ain't one
- 47:56Speaker 4: thing in my life.
- 47:57Speaker 6: Now I have, I have been a part of failure
- 47:59Speaker 6: many times, but there ain't one thing in my life
- 48:02Speaker 6: that I've ever failed at.
- 48:04Speaker 4: Tyler, never. All right. Ever. I wanted to get an education.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I got two degrees.
- 48:12Speaker 6: I wanted to be the first college graduate in my family.
- 48:14Speaker 4: I did it.
- 48:15Speaker 6: I wanted to go play football in Alabama. I earned
- 48:17Speaker 6: a scholarship, lettered three years, worked my ass off, won
- 48:20Speaker 6: a national championship.
- 48:22Speaker 4: I wanted to get into coaching. I worked my way
- 48:24Speaker 4: to being a head coach.
- 48:27Speaker 6: And when I got this job, and I'm sure you
- 48:29Speaker 6: didn't want me to get this job, and 15 years
- 48:32Speaker 6: later I'm still here, and I'd say the results are
- 48:35Speaker 6: what they are, and I stand on them. So you
- 48:40Speaker 6: don't ever have to call back. I wanted to get married.
- 48:46Speaker 6: I've been married for going on 30 years. I wanted
- 48:48Speaker 6: to be a father. I've raised three great sons. If
- 48:51Speaker 6: you don't like how I run the program, don't be
- 48:53Speaker 6: a fan.
- 48:53Speaker 4: I don't care. But I'm the head coach, and I'm
- 48:56Speaker 4: going to do what I believe is right for the
- 48:59Speaker 4: long term of this program.
- 49:01Speaker 6: What's best for the players, and what I think is
- 49:03Speaker 6: best for the moment. If you've got a problem with that,
- 49:05Speaker 6: that's fine. But I'm not going to sit here and
- 49:07Speaker 6: let you call. I don't give a crap how much
- 49:09Speaker 6: money I make. You ain't going to talk to me
- 49:12Speaker 6: like I'm 12 years old.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I'm going to talk to you like you're 12.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Amen.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I like it. I like it.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Billy? I love that so much, man. I love the
- 49:25Speaker 1: host of the show. Amen. I like it.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Way to go.
- 49:28Speaker 1: I can see that you're fired up about this, Davo.
- 49:30Speaker 1: The entire point of Tyler and Sparkberg's call was since 2018,
- 49:33Speaker 1: there's been a difference in arrogance. And then he responds
- 49:37Speaker 1: with that five-minute statement.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Let me show you how arrogant I am in this response.
- 49:42Speaker 2: I'm going to sit you down and treat you like
- 49:44Speaker 2: a child. Don't talk to me like I'm 12, but
- 49:48Speaker 2: I'm going to talk to you like you're 12, and
- 49:49Speaker 2: you're going to get no response. If you don't like it,
- 49:51Speaker 2: don't be a fan. Incredible stuff from Dabo. And what
- 49:55Speaker 2: we saw in the first video from yesterday, the guy
- 49:57Speaker 2: hasn't changed. And I don't think there's any expectation that
- 50:00Speaker 2: he's ever going to change, and I don't know if
- 50:03Speaker 2: that's going to work in college football the way it
- 50:05Speaker 2: did before.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Maybe it will somewhere else.
- 50:08Speaker 2: It does feel like the shine has completely worn off
- 50:10Speaker 2: at Clemson though now, Hutton. I'd also say they owe
- 50:13Speaker 2: him $ 60 million if they fire him.
- 50:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 50:16Speaker 2: They're not in the SEC or the Big Ten. Do
- 50:18Speaker 2: they even have the money being in the ACC to
- 50:20Speaker 2: do something like that if you're Clemson?
- 50:22Speaker 1: I doubt it.
- 50:24Speaker 2: It's going to hinder your ability to hire the next coach.
- 50:26Speaker 2: It's going to hinder your ability to pay NIL to
- 50:28Speaker 2: players to.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Come to Clemson at that point.
- 50:30Speaker 2: So I think they're in a tough spot, I really think,
- 50:34Speaker 2: because of his accomplishments there, which have been plenty. for
- 50:36Speaker 2: Dabo Sweeney that he's going to need to walk away
- 50:39Speaker 2: on his own for Clemson to get a new coach.
- 50:41Speaker 1: And the accomplishments actually continue. He's pointed out, like, we
- 50:45Speaker 1: had all these draft picks and whatever. They had nine
- 50:48Speaker 1: draft picks this year in the top five rounds. That
- 50:51Speaker 1: set a new record in the NFL. So it's not
- 50:54Speaker 1: like they don't have talent. And he called the reporter Chappell.
- 50:58Speaker 1: My prayer would be that that dude's first name is
- 51:01Speaker 1: Tyler Chappell from Spartanburg. That would be awesome. That would
- 51:05Speaker 1: be fantastic. uh, define Dabo. He will never change.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the way, the way he called the guy,
- 51:11Speaker 2: the report of the gotcha guy and everything, the way
- 51:13Speaker 2: that talking down to them, it's just, and also Brooks
- 51:16Speaker 2: brought this up in the YouTube chat, which is great.
- 51:18Speaker 1: By the way, hit us up on YouTube. You can
- 51:20Speaker 1: listen to us on podcast too.
- 51:21Speaker 2: We got a partnership now with I heart podcast, wherever
- 51:25Speaker 2: you get podcasts, you can listen to us. We're, we
- 51:27Speaker 2: got other announcements coming to about other places where you can,
- 51:29Speaker 2: you can watch on X, you can watch on Facebook.
- 51:32Speaker 1: We got other announcements coming soon.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Um, The coach asking, did you play football, is the
- 51:38Speaker 2: ultimate little boy argument.
- 51:42Speaker 1: You know you're going to get 100% backing from your
- 51:44Speaker 1: fan base when you do that. And it's just.
- 51:48Speaker 2: An under-the-table way of basically challenging the manhood of the
- 51:51Speaker 2: reporter asking a question anytime that happens. And Dabo knows
- 51:55Speaker 2: exactly what he's doing.
- 51:56Speaker 1: It's what Ryan Clark did live on air, right? Yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 1: And then he got fired. Yes, he did. Chad, another
- 52:04Speaker 1: thing that will never change, Defiant Davo, and then there's
- 52:07Speaker 1: Primary Complaint, weekly on Hutton and Withrow. That's next. We're
- 52:12Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Beth.
