- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good Wednesday morning to you as we move along this
- 0:11Speaker 2: week going quickly. A bit of weird news cycle. Like
- 0:18Speaker 2: kind of all over the place, weird stuff. And then
- 0:21Speaker 2: hearing Amy King this morning talking about that plane incident.
- 0:27Speaker 2: that had to go down in Saudi Arabia, kind of
- 0:31Speaker 2: as it was going down. And I heard some of
- 0:33Speaker 2: your conversation this morning. Did you want to kind of
- 0:37Speaker 2: put a bow on that as to what we know now?
- 0:40Speaker 3: What we know now is that the pilots got into
- 0:44Speaker 3: a fight in the cockpit and one of them stabbed
- 0:48Speaker 3: the other. And Israel is saying that they think this
- 0:51Speaker 3: was an attempt at a terrorist attack. They're not sure
- 0:55Speaker 3: if He wanted to crash the plane if he wanted
- 0:59Speaker 3: to crash the plane into something, you know, 9-11 style.
- 1:04Speaker 3: But it was an amazing story. We'll be using our
- 1:10Speaker 3: conversation with Jordana in news all morning, so you'll get
- 1:12Speaker 3: some more updates. But just amazing that the passenger saw
- 1:15Speaker 3: something was going on and went up to the cockpit,
- 1:21Speaker 3: broke up the fight, subdued the guy who attacked the
- 1:24Speaker 3: other pilot. And one of the passengers said his sole
- 1:28Speaker 3: mission in life for the next hour until they landed
- 1:30Speaker 3: was to make sure that he did not move. So
- 1:33Speaker 3: nobody was killed. The pilot who was stabbed went back.
- 1:37Speaker 4: And landed the plane.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Wow. And during all of this, during the whole fight
- 1:43Speaker 3: and whatever was going on on board, the plane plunged
- 1:50Speaker 3: 17,000 feet in less than a minute. Basically started nosediving
- 1:54Speaker 3: and unhooked. Obviously, everybody on board was scared to death.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I saw an interview with a woman whose daughter was
- 2:03Speaker 3: on the plane and she called her and said, we
- 2:04Speaker 3: thought that we were all going to die. But everybody's OK.
- 2:08Speaker 3: And they landed in Saudi Arabia. And that in and
- 2:11Speaker 3: of itself is kind of historic because Israelis are not
- 2:15Speaker 3: allowed in Saudi Arabia. That's the first time that Israeli
- 2:18Speaker 3: civilians have landed a plane in Saudi Arabia. So they're
- 2:22Speaker 3: there and now they're working to get them home. But
- 2:23Speaker 3: everybody's OK. And the plane landed safely. A crazy story.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So the pilots were Israeli or?
- 2:33Speaker 4: We don't know.
- 2:35Speaker 3: The flight was, it's a fly Dubai flight, which is
- 2:37Speaker 3: like the lower cost carrier of Emirates, as I, as
- 2:42Speaker 3: my understanding.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:44Speaker 3: But it was on its way from the UAE to
- 2:47Speaker 3: Tel Aviv. And there were about, there were a couple
- 2:49Speaker 3: hours into the flight when this happened.
- 2:53Speaker 5: But they have both the pilots now in custody or whatever.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Well, they have one of them in custody. The other
- 2:58Speaker 4: one's probably at the hospital. He was stabbed.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Where?
- 3:00Speaker 5: Do we know where he was stabbed?
- 3:02Speaker 4: The pilot? In the air.
- 3:05Speaker 5: In the arm?
- 3:06Speaker 4: We do not.
- 3:07Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Have you been stabbed before?
- 3:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I have.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Have you really?
- 3:12Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 3:14Speaker 3: We know that he was able to go back into
- 3:16Speaker 3: the cockpit and land the plane.
- 3:19Speaker 5: He wasn't stabbed in the heart.
- 3:22Speaker 4: So it's not as bad?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:25Speaker 2: He's fine.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Is he alive?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yes, he's alive. He landed a plane.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Ask him what happened.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Have you been drinking? I wish.
- 3:35Speaker 5: God, I wish.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Wow. Why are you?
- 3:37Speaker 4: So what are you saying?
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's no big deal. Shake it. Walk it off and
- 3:43Speaker 2: then land the plane and ask the questions. Oh, I'm
- 3:46Speaker 2: sure they're being asked.
- 3:48Speaker 5: We don't even know where they're from.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Well, it happened about three hours ago, Ann.
- 3:52Speaker 2: We just don't know.
- 3:53Speaker 4: We're getting the information.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I'm with you, Ann.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Thanks, new Clay.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I don't know if that's a vote of confidence.
- 4:02Speaker 5: I'll take it.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Okay. Where'd he get stabbed?
- 4:06Speaker 5: In the thigh?
- 4:08Speaker 2: Who cares? Seriously, have you ever been stabbed? It's unpleasant.
- 4:12Speaker 3: You know what?
- 4:13Speaker 5: There's so much adrenaline going through your body, you wouldn't
- 4:15Speaker 5: even feel it at that point.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Come here for a second.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I'm going to.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I got a pair of scissors that says different. There's
- 4:23Speaker 2: always a doctor on the plane. I know.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Wow, you guys.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Anne is normally after a win.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I think, yeah, she must be on an adrenaline high
- 4:35Speaker 3: from the Padres win last night.
- 4:36Speaker 5: I'm just over everything. Okay.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Famous last words. Are you okay?
- 4:43Speaker 5: No.
- 4:44Speaker 2: She's not.
- 4:46Speaker 4: She's on the edge today.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:50Speaker 2: We all get attached to Handel.
- 4:52Speaker 4: It's rough when he's- Maybe that's it. She's missing Bill
- 4:54Speaker 4: right now.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Thanks, Amy. Hello. Neil Saavedra and the Morning Crew here.
- 4:59Speaker 2: New Clay, nice to see you, sir. Nice to see you.
- 5:02Speaker 2: You always look like you're up to something. I'm trying
- 5:04Speaker 2: to get my- And I am. Wrap my arms around
- 5:08Speaker 2: who you are, but nice to see you. Weird kid. Will,
- 5:17Speaker 2: good morning, sir. Good morning, Neil Saavedra. Kono, no porn
- 5:23Speaker 2: during the show, please.
- 5:25Speaker 3: No.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Put the phone down.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I'm watching how a knee replacement surgery works.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Ew.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It's no big deal. It popped up on my feed. Okay.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Good morning. Good morning, Neil. I like that you're learning.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I appreciate that. I like to learn. And Anne, no
- 5:43Speaker 2: sharp objects. Good morning.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Morning.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's an interesting morning. Is it? I love this type
- 5:53Speaker 2: of morning. I know. Oh, she's looking through the top
- 5:58Speaker 2: of her eyes. That creeps me out. It's like a
- 6:00Speaker 2: Jack Nicholson look. Okay, we'll get started. All morning? Or
- 6:08Speaker 2: is it just when I got here? No, it's just
- 6:11Speaker 2: when you got here. Okay, we're slowly reducing. It's deduction.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I'm going to say it's me. All right, let's get started.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Handle on the news. Lead story. Moving out. Two decades.
- 6:35Speaker 2: 20 years we've been in Iraq with U.S. forces, and
- 6:40Speaker 2: they are moving out. And what the future brings, we
- 6:44Speaker 2: don't know. That's what makes life exciting, actually. You don't
- 6:48Speaker 2: know what the future brings. Does it bring new clay?
- 6:54Speaker 2: Maybe it does. Most of the time. Maybe it does.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So they formally, this is kind of the formal action
- 7:00Speaker 2: of withdrawing from Iraq, ending that two decade military presence.
- 7:05Speaker 2: A lot of bloodshed leaves behind a incredibly battered nation.
- 7:13Speaker 2: struggling to figure things out from itself, other shackles, its
- 7:17Speaker 2: own shackles, and all of those things after toppling Saddam
- 7:24Speaker 2: Hussein in 2003. Brutal dictator, bad guy, and ended up
- 7:31Speaker 2: with a knife in his rectum, if I remember correctly.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's become a saying of mine that... If you lead
- 7:42Speaker 2: treacherously like that, if you lead and are tyrannical, you
- 7:46Speaker 2: will end up with a knife in your arse. Does
- 7:49Speaker 2: that mean you can still land a plane? I don't know. Anne,
- 7:54Speaker 2: knife in the ass. Is that bad?
- 7:58Speaker 5: All I'm saying is we don't know where he was stabbed.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We do not, correct.
- 8:04Speaker 5: We don't know anything.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:07Speaker 5: And if he was stabbed in the leg, yes, he
- 8:09Speaker 5: could land the plane.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Well, he did land the plane, regardless of where he
- 8:13Speaker 2: was stabbed.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 8:15Speaker 2: So, yay.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Yay.
- 8:17Speaker 2: 500 people on the plane. How many people were on
- 8:19Speaker 2: that plane? It was a big plane.
- 8:21Speaker 5: 150. 150.
- 8:22Speaker 2: 150. Oh, my gosh, Ann.
- 8:25Speaker 5: No.
- 8:26Speaker 2: No, I'm sorry. No, no, no. I've heard bigger planes.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Ann.
- 8:31Speaker 1: No.
- 8:31Speaker 2: What did I do to you this morning?
- 8:33Speaker 5: Absolutely not.
- 8:34Speaker 2: No.
- 8:34Speaker 1: No.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Obviously, it's wonderful that he landed the plane. Everybody's fine.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he's fine. Yeah. He's fine.
- 8:42Speaker 5: We don't know. We don't know.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Stabbing is bad. Let's make that clear. Stabbing someone else
- 8:50Speaker 2: is bad, right? Awful.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Receiving a wound by a knife is bad, right? All
- 9:02Speaker 2: melee weapons are hurtful. Okay.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Okay.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Will you frisk her? Go ahead.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Looks like Senator tried to trip up Jack Smith but failed.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Senator Eric Schmidt accused former special counsel Jack Smith during
- 9:27Speaker 3: a hearing on Capitol Hill of committing perjury when he
- 9:31Speaker 3: denied going to an Atlanta Hawks basketball game in 2024.
- 9:37Speaker 3: seemed a little confused. And that is because Schmidt had
- 9:44Speaker 3: the wrong team.
- 9:45Speaker 4: So he was trying to basically.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Why do we do this?
- 9:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Because that's what happens in these hearings. They just are
- 9:52Speaker 3: grandstanding and they're trying to get the gotcha moment.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Stop it.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Do your work for us. We the people get in
- 9:59Speaker 2: and get out and stop playing stupid games and stop
- 10:02Speaker 2: blaming each other for stuff and just get work done.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Because now it just looks like a. Oh, Michelle Cube
- 10:12Speaker 2: is sending us video of stabbed pilot on Israeli. It
- 10:16Speaker 2: looks like it was pretty bad injury.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Probably didn't hurt at all, huh, Anne?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Anne wants to see bone.
- 10:30Speaker 5: You guys are taking this way out of context.
- 10:34Speaker 2: No, I want to know where you stabbed you. I'm curious.
- 10:37Speaker 2: That's it. But also, a lot of blood doesn't mean
- 10:41Speaker 2: it's a very serious injury. If you watch wrestling, you're fine.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Are you stupid? Losing blood is bad. No, have you
- 10:47Speaker 2: ever seen wrestling?
- 10:48Speaker 4: You can have little cuts, and it produces a lot
- 10:51Speaker 4: of blood.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So it depends. A lot of blood coming out of
- 10:54Speaker 2: your body is bad. What the hell is happening this morning?
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm just saying. Just because it looks messy doesn't mean
- 11:00Speaker 2: it's that bad.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I understand.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I understand. Small wounds can, lots of blood, but any
- 11:04Speaker 2: blood out of the body is not a good thing.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I just went to the doctor. They took seven vials. Exactly.
- 11:10Speaker 3: See, I don't understand nuclei. I think you'd probably lose
- 11:13Speaker 3: more if you were stabbed.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Oh. How much? How much in the body, anybody?
- 11:19Speaker 1: 10.
- 11:19Speaker 2: About 10 what? I don't know. About a gallon, I think.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Think of a gallon of milk falling from your refrigerator
- 11:29Speaker 2: all over the floor. That's about what's in your bag.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That's messy. Yeah, that's messy. Don't ask me how I know.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And apparently the pilot was stabbed repeatedly.
- 11:37Speaker 2: He was stabbed repeatedly.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Well, that's new news, isn't it?
- 11:41Speaker 4: It is new.
- 11:42Speaker 5: So thank you.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Back to the news we go. GOP Senator blocks effort
- 11:47Speaker 2: to bar Trump from demolishing the Kennedy Center. Thank you, Jesus.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Let's not tear things down. What do they say? Don't
- 11:57Speaker 2: change horses midstream. He's going through his old things. Stop things.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Don't go nuts. The blue didn't work in the reflection pool.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Let's kind of back off when it comes to any
- 12:11Speaker 2: sort of construction or reviving for now. Let's focus on war.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Let's focus on other things. Shall we go?
- 12:23Speaker 4: We got punked.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Like, kind of everybody got punked. Santa Ana police received
- 12:31Speaker 3: a 911 call about a snake. A man called and
- 12:37Speaker 3: said he found a snake after his dogs alerted him
- 12:40Speaker 3: to something on the shed.
- 12:41Speaker 4: He took a picture of it.
- 12:42Speaker 3: He called 911. And then Santa Ana police issued a
- 12:46Speaker 3: serious public advisory warning residents that the venomous viper was
- 12:52Speaker 3: on the loose and included a picture.
- 12:54Speaker 4: And said, be careful.
- 12:56Speaker 3: This snake is not allowed to be here without a permit.
- 12:59Speaker 3: They didn't have any permits on record. It's indigenous to Africa.
- 13:04Speaker 3: And then a little while later, they dug around some
- 13:06Speaker 3: more after freaking out much of Santa Ana and found
- 13:09Speaker 3: out that the guy who called police said, that was
- 13:11Speaker 3: an AI generated picture.
- 13:13Speaker 4: It's false.
- 13:14Speaker 2: So Anna and I were talking about this earlier about
- 13:17Speaker 2: AI and how you're not going to know. We've become lazy.
- 13:24Speaker 2: it's very easy for us to just go, well, I
- 13:26Speaker 2: see it, I believe it. When you break down this photo,
- 13:30Speaker 2: you have all these, what is the snake guy? Or pathologist?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Or is that the You know, all these people coming
- 13:41Speaker 2: out saying, no, a snake that size could not be
- 13:43Speaker 2: on a branch that size. The color is off. If
- 13:49Speaker 2: you get somebody who looks at it with the proper eye,
- 13:54Speaker 2: they're going, no, just because you see it doesn't mean
- 13:58Speaker 2: it's true. The way it was hanging, the way it
- 14:00Speaker 2: was sitting. And we're not going to... Is that what
- 14:03Speaker 2: it is? We're not going to know exactly... everything when
- 14:10Speaker 2: we see it anymore. And so going off of one picture,
- 14:14Speaker 2: that was kind of going back and forth when we
- 14:17Speaker 2: got off the air yesterday as to what, if it
- 14:20Speaker 2: was real or not, or if it was AI. And,
- 14:24Speaker 2: you know, even if it wasn't AI, it's a real picture.
- 14:27Speaker 2: It's so close on it. We don't know if it
- 14:28Speaker 2: was in California or not. Now you have to look
- 14:32Speaker 2: up the tree to see if the tree is something
- 14:33Speaker 2: that's indigenous to California or that we have here. It's
- 14:37Speaker 2: just going to take a keener eye. It's just like swatting,
- 14:41Speaker 2: but with visuals. Hello? Is that? What? Who are you
- 14:53Speaker 2: talking to? Oh, it's me. I talked so much during that,
- 14:56Speaker 2: I thought it was my story.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Oh.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Uh.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Uh-oh. Here we go. Biological mother of a four month
- 15:09Speaker 2: old girl found dead in L.A. This was that story
- 15:12Speaker 2: that we unfortunately had to end on yesterday. This was
- 15:17Speaker 2: the grandmother that came out saying, I think that that's
- 15:21Speaker 2: my daughter's baby, my grandbaby. So she was detained and detained.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And this was happening near the end of the show yesterday. Right, Amy? Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So she's been arrested on suspicion of murder. Annan stated
- 15:35Speaker 2: that yesterday on the thought that the baby, they made
- 15:39Speaker 2: it kind of sound like the baby died in the dumpster.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Yes.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And then they were studying it and investigating it as
- 15:47Speaker 2: a homicide. So in this particular case, it sounds like,
- 15:54Speaker 2: you know, it was suspicious as if the girl was
- 15:57Speaker 2: harmed beforehand and And we were all talking about in
- 16:01Speaker 2: this day and age, you can take it to a
- 16:02Speaker 2: safe place. If you can't afford the child or you
- 16:08Speaker 2: are not in the mental capacity, you can take it
- 16:11Speaker 2: to the fire department and take care of the baby. Well,
- 16:17Speaker 2: if you harmed it, you wouldn't want to take it there.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And that makes more sense. One last one, Amy.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Well, we've already talked about this, but I don't want
- 16:29Speaker 3: to get Ann mad again, but a commercial plane traveling
- 16:31Speaker 3: from Dubai to Israel has landed safely in Saudi Arabia.
- 16:36Speaker 4: It was about two hours into the flight.
- 16:39Speaker 3: And then there was a fight that broke out in
- 16:42Speaker 3: the cockpit between the two pilots. One of the pilots
- 16:45Speaker 3: was stabbed, apparently repeatedly stabbed. Passengers and the crew then
- 16:51Speaker 3: got into the cockpit, subdued the guy who stabbed the
- 16:54Speaker 3: other pilot. The pilot who was stabbed was able to
- 16:57Speaker 3: get back into the cockpit and land the plane about
- 17:00Speaker 3: an hour later. And during that time, the plane took
- 17:05Speaker 3: a 17,000-foot plunge from 33,000 to 14,000 feet.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, scary indeed to have something go from that height
- 17:14Speaker 2: that quickly and then find out the one thing you
- 17:17Speaker 2: don't want going on. Well, there's multiple things you don't
- 17:20Speaker 2: want going on in a cockpit. Sleeping, drugs. Fighting's going
- 17:26Speaker 2: to be up in the top five. Stabbings, that's up
- 17:29Speaker 2: in the top five. So we'll get more about that
- 17:32Speaker 2: story as it continues to unfold. So abortions in college
- 17:37Speaker 2: are going to be a thing now by way of Newsom.
- 17:42Speaker 2: He looks like the type of guy who would be
- 17:43Speaker 2: really encouraging about abortions. Listen, my wife is not going
- 17:48Speaker 2: to react well to this. Community colleges here in California
- 17:54Speaker 2: will be required to offer medicational or medication abortions, the
- 17:59Speaker 2: abortion pill, essentially. New law signed by GovGav, expanding a
- 18:04Speaker 2: service already required across the California State University and University
- 18:09Speaker 2: of California systems. But he wants to make sure that
- 18:12Speaker 2: it is there for frat boys and the like, is
- 18:18Speaker 2: my guess.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So the White Sox got a letter from an unlikely source,
- 18:24Speaker 3: Pope Leo the 14th. The letter on September 9th was
- 18:29Speaker 3: addressed to White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf. The team said
- 18:32Speaker 3: it arrived at Chicago's rate field on Tuesday ahead of
- 18:36Speaker 3: game one of the AL wildcard series against the Astros.
- 18:41Speaker 3: And apparently it worked because the White Sox won game
- 18:45Speaker 3: one of the best of three series six to three.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Well, you don't want that kind of luck. You're not
- 18:51Speaker 2: going to get something from the Pope every time you play.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Who knows? Maybe you will. Leo is a White Sox fan.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Wasn't like that the first thing that we learned about
- 19:02Speaker 2: him when he became the Pope?
- 19:04Speaker 4: What, that he was a White Sox fan?
- 19:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that was like the big deal. He was from
- 19:07Speaker 2: Chicago and he's a White Sox fan. Do you think he,
- 19:13Speaker 2: I mean, is that fair? What if they start winning?
- 19:16Speaker 2: He's the first pope I've seen in a baseball cap. Well,
- 19:20Speaker 2: they all wear that baseball cap without the brim. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 2: It's just a brim. Extra tall so you can catch
- 19:27Speaker 2: foul balls. I see, yeah. He's got the little post
- 19:31Speaker 2: hole digger that they wear for ceremonial. Is that you
- 19:38Speaker 2: or me?
- 19:39Speaker 4: It's you.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 19:41Speaker 2: It looked like the same story. All right. Where to
- 19:43Speaker 2: watch the gubernatorial debate? Of course, everybody's going to be
- 19:47Speaker 2: excited because Becerra comes out of his hole. And then
- 19:52Speaker 2: you're going to hear a guy speak funny. Hey, he's
- 19:55Speaker 2: not American. So Steve Hilton is going to be sparring
- 19:59Speaker 2: with Becerra one-on-one. And this is... I don't know, the
- 20:06Speaker 2: only one that is scheduled at this point before the
- 20:09Speaker 2: November 3rd general election there. So they're going to be
- 20:14Speaker 2: debating in primetime tonight. And I'm hoping people watch it.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I'm going to be out of the pocket, but I'll
- 20:21Speaker 2: go do the wind up afterwards where I'll just consume everything. Amy,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I know you like these things.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I'm a junkie. I'll be watching it for sure.
- 20:30Speaker 2: What do you expect?
- 20:32Speaker 4: I don't really know. I mean, it's sort of a.
- 20:37Speaker 3: The ratio of Democrats to Republicans in California is at
- 20:42Speaker 3: least two to one, right?
- 20:43Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 20:46Speaker 3: But could people say California is not being run right?
- 20:51Speaker 3: We need to make some changes. Could that give Hilton
- 20:56Speaker 3: a possibility? Will he be able to make that case?
- 21:00Speaker 3: Will either of them say anything that sways anybody? I
- 21:03Speaker 3: love watching all that stuff.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I love.
- 21:05Speaker 4: How they react to questions, what kind of answers they give,
- 21:07Speaker 4: all of that stuff.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Who's ahead? Becerra? Okay, so he's going to be.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Well, like by a two-to-one margin.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That's why he's staying out of things. So tonight, if
- 21:19Speaker 2: you want to watch it, 6 p.m., being hosted by CNN,
- 21:24Speaker 2: and it will stream live for CNN's streaming and pay
- 21:27Speaker 2: TV subscribers via CNN.com.
- 21:33Speaker 3: GovGav's fighting back. The governor signed a bunch of laws yesterday.
- 21:39Speaker 3: You know, he has until today to either sign or
- 21:42Speaker 3: veto legislation that was passed during this past session. A
- 21:46Speaker 3: lot of these ones are aimed at the state's oversight
- 21:50Speaker 3: of federal immigration enforcement. So among the new laws that
- 21:55Speaker 3: he signed are a ban on using those electroshock gloves
- 21:58Speaker 3: that we just started hearing about.
- 22:00Speaker 4: It's basically a glove taser.
- 22:03Speaker 3: A 25 percent tax on private detention facilities. Limiting immigration
- 22:09Speaker 3: authorities use of flashbang grenades during raids. Prohibiting immigration and
- 22:15Speaker 3: customs enforcement officers who have committed serious misconduct from then
- 22:20Speaker 3: at any point after that becoming state workers or police officers.
- 22:24Speaker 3: and expanding health, safety, and oversight requirements for civil detention
- 22:32Speaker 3: facilities that are operating in the state.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You know, every politician, I don't care if you are
- 22:39Speaker 2: on the right or on the left, every politician that
- 22:41Speaker 2: has been through California and has been a part of
- 22:46Speaker 2: running California has screwed the homeless and the immigrants, both
- 22:52Speaker 2: of them. And the fact that you have gotten to
- 22:57Speaker 2: the point where they are using flash bang grenades is
- 23:01Speaker 2: a byproduct of the fact that people have ignored the
- 23:05Speaker 2: issue for so long. And it's asinine. And then you
- 23:10Speaker 2: end up getting people go, well, so-and-so was in there
- 23:12Speaker 2: in office.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 2: And then you've been in office. And then this person,
- 23:16Speaker 2: nobody's helped these people at all. And then it gets
- 23:20Speaker 2: to the point where arguably. President Trump steps in in
- 23:25Speaker 2: an ugly way and does something that most Americans wanted,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and that is to have a stronger tie with who's
- 23:37Speaker 2: coming into this country and the borders and then does
- 23:40Speaker 2: it in such a ham-handed way than treating people inhumanely
- 23:45Speaker 2: that now we've got the left like they're, you know,
- 23:49Speaker 2: the best people in the world and caring for all
- 23:51Speaker 2: these people and taking care of them by not using
- 23:55Speaker 2: flashbang grenades. Hegseth set to announce more cuts to the military.
- 24:01Speaker 2: What did I hear earlier on your show, Amy? Less generals,
- 24:06Speaker 2: more GIs. Is that what he's looking at? Yeah. Too
- 24:09Speaker 2: many fat cats at the top?
- 24:11Speaker 3: Yeah, about a 20% decrease in the number of admirals
- 24:14Speaker 3: and generals is what he's looking at.
- 24:17Speaker 2: What does an admiral and general do?
- 24:23Speaker 4: I don't know, but you got me thinking of White Christmas.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Oh, General. Was he an admiral?
- 24:29Speaker 4: What do you do with a general?
- 24:32Speaker 2: That gets me teared up.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 2: All those boys. They're General. The old man, they call him.
- 24:40Speaker 4: General Waverly, right?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Well, yep. General Waverly. You are correct.
- 24:44Speaker 4: I've only watched that movie about 50,000 times.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I've seen it probably one more time than that. So Hegseth,
- 24:51Speaker 2: as you said, is going to direct all military services
- 24:55Speaker 2: to double the 10% reduction that he ordered, bringing it
- 24:58Speaker 2: to 80, so roughly, or to 20, roughly 800 flag
- 25:03Speaker 2: and general officer positions, making it 20% total decrease to
- 25:10Speaker 2: be completed by January 1st of 2027. So this is,
- 25:15Speaker 2: you know, quite a quick turn.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Trump's all about the AI.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Is it AI anymore?
- 25:24Speaker 4: Oh, Trump's all about the SI.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 3: The world's richest, most powerful tech executives met with Trump
- 25:33Speaker 3: yesterday outside the West Wing. Trump said that he and
- 25:39Speaker 3: they had signed a voluntary accord intended to ensure the
- 25:44Speaker 3: industry develops AI safely. Now, this voluntary accord is not
- 25:48Speaker 3: legally binding, but Trump described it as morally binding. He said,
- 25:53Speaker 3: in order to build a positive future for the American
- 25:55Speaker 3: people and the world, we believe every company is responsible
- 25:58Speaker 3: for developing its own technology safely and in a way
- 26:02Speaker 3: that builds trust with customers and the public. And then
- 26:06Speaker 3: he signed an executive order declaring that they can't call
- 26:09Speaker 3: it AI anymore.
- 26:10Speaker 4: It's SI, which stands for superintelligence.
- 26:15Speaker 2: You know, I'm not– he's not a good marketing guy.
- 26:18Speaker 2: He comes up with some silly things. But I don't
- 26:20Speaker 2: know that I'm– I don't know that I think it's
- 26:24Speaker 2: horrible to call it superintelligence.
- 26:28Speaker 4: He just has a thing about renaming everything.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I know.
- 26:30Speaker 4: At least he didn't call it Trump intelligence, right?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I get it. But I don't know. I think
- 26:35Speaker 2: artificial intelligence is scaring people.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Is more menacing.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like, I don't know, anything artificial. We grew up, nobody,
- 26:45Speaker 2: you want, you know, natural peanut butter, right?
- 26:47Speaker 4: Artificial sweeteners.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Super intelligence though. That.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I know.
- 26:51Speaker 2: That is, that is straight out of the comic books.
- 26:54Speaker 2: That's like Megamind.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Yeah. With a big head, this huge head. Super intelligence.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 2: But it is, it, I think it's freaking a lot
- 27:03Speaker 2: of people out. And, and I think we get scared
- 27:08Speaker 2: when we don't know things. So artificial, I think it
- 27:13Speaker 2: throws you off a little bit. I think calling it
- 27:16Speaker 2: super intelligence kind of sets the stage for people to
- 27:20Speaker 2: start believing it more than believing humans. You're right. But
- 27:24Speaker 2: words matter.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And so it's like super intelligence said this. Well, oh,
- 27:29Speaker 2: then it must be true.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:31Speaker 2: But it's wrong a lot. Maybe I rescind that until
- 27:34Speaker 2: we have further information. All right. Can we? Yeah, we
- 27:41Speaker 2: got time. All right. Three racehorses die again in eight
- 27:45Speaker 2: days from injuries at Santa Anita. And this is something
- 27:48Speaker 2: that hasn't gone away. You know, these these stories were
- 27:52Speaker 2: hot and heavy for a while. Then they drifted off.
- 27:55Speaker 2: And for whatever reason, you know, you're running horses. There's
- 27:59Speaker 2: going to be injuries and there's going to be problems.
- 28:01Speaker 2: A third racehorse death in an eight day span there
- 28:04Speaker 2: at Santa Anita. Brought the total number of fatalities in
- 28:08Speaker 2: racing and training at California. Three thoroughbreds, one quarter horse
- 28:14Speaker 2: tracks to 26 this year. We're pretty deep in the year,
- 28:18Speaker 2: but that's a lot of horses. Marking an increase over
- 28:21Speaker 2: most recent years, according to data posted by the California
- 28:24Speaker 2: Horse Racing Board.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Makes me sad because it's such a beautiful sport and
- 28:32Speaker 3: it makes me mad that so many horses are Basically
- 28:35Speaker 3: die on the track or they fall and they injure
- 28:38Speaker 3: themselves or they get injured and then they put them down.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And you know horses. What's an old horse? Because they're
- 28:48Speaker 2: saying like a three-year-old colt.
- 28:50Speaker 5: That's a baby.
- 28:51Speaker 2: That's a baby baby? I have a horse.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I have a thoroughbred and he's 26 years old.
- 28:56Speaker 2: What's a normal old age for? Yeah. These are babies. Yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 2: two-year-old colt. Not okay. Three-year-old colt.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 5: It's not like they lived to nine. At my barn,
- 29:13Speaker 5: there are several horses in their 20s and some in
- 29:15Speaker 5: their early 30s.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Wow, really? Absolutely. And are they pretty decrepit at that
- 29:22Speaker 2: point or they look just like a regular horse?
- 29:24Speaker 5: I can show you a picture of my horse right now.
- 29:25Speaker 2: He just looks like a regular horse.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Well, you can still. I used to ride a 30-year-old horse.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:33Speaker 2: No comment. One last story.
- 29:37Speaker 4: You got it.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Mom, Donnie's got to start over. uh new york city
- 29:41Speaker 3: mayor zoron mom donnie it.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Gets me every two that last name i don't know.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Why he promised he would govern as a democratic socialist
- 29:51Speaker 3: and said he was going to tax the rich and
- 29:52Speaker 3: one of the things that he wanted to do still
- 29:55Speaker 3: wants to do is tax new yorkers who have second
- 29:57Speaker 3: homes um He was dealt a major setback when a
- 30:02Speaker 3: judge in Staten Island ruled in favor of plaintiffs who
- 30:05Speaker 3: were challenging the rollout of this new tax, the– how
- 30:10Speaker 3: do you say it?
- 30:10Speaker 4: Pied-a-terre tax?
- 30:12Speaker 2: Pied-a-terre.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Pied-a-terre.
- 30:13Speaker 2: It's a small apartment.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Okay, yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 3: So it places a surcharge on non-primary residents in New
- 30:20Speaker 3: York City if they're over $ 5 million in value and
- 30:23Speaker 3: co-ops that are worth a million dollars or more. So
- 30:26Speaker 3: they get that tax on that. But– They weren't challenging
- 30:30Speaker 3: the tax itself. They were challenging the way it was
- 30:33Speaker 3: rolled out because they released a list that included people
- 30:37Speaker 3: who were not subject to the tax. So the judge
- 30:39Speaker 3: said the rollout has to be, they have to go
- 30:43Speaker 3: back and start over, do it again, basically. They have
- 30:46Speaker 3: to clean up the list and then put a list
- 30:49Speaker 3: out of only people who are subject to the tax.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I know people who just sold theirs because of
- 30:54Speaker 2: this tax. The reality is you have a lot of
- 30:57Speaker 2: people doing work In New York, but it's expensive to
- 31:00Speaker 2: live in New York. So it's easier to have a
- 31:02Speaker 2: pied-a-terre or a small apartment there.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Pied-a-terre.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that they can go and stay at when they
- 31:09Speaker 2: need to do stuff there. And that's who they're nailing.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You got to nail the people who have succeeded in life.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Punish them for their success.
- 31:19Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 31:21Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
