• 2:04
Speaker 3: let's turn our attention now. Let's Senator Shelley Moore Capito,
• 2:07
Speaker 3: who's in the studio with us this morning. Senator, good morning,
• 2:09
Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
• 2:10
Speaker 5: Good morning, nice to be here, Thank you.
• 2:12
Speaker 3: For being here. And so you've got a lot of
• 2:14
Speaker 3: events planned around the area to I mean all of
• 2:17
Speaker 3: the state, but specifically in Charleston.
• 2:19
  Speaker 6: Day we do.
• 2:20
Speaker 7: We have yesterday had a great visit in Morgantown at
• 2:23
Speaker 7: WVU with the Archivist of the United States to talk
• 2:27
Speaker 7: about archiving records and preserving our history.
• 2:30
Speaker 5: That was really good.
• 2:32
Speaker 7: Today we're just going to be moving around, going over
• 2:34
Speaker 7: to a school later on, and then we're going to
• 2:37
Speaker 7: see Green Power and see them at their manufacturing site
• 2:41
Speaker 7: while they turn over the keys I believe, to a
• 2:43
Speaker 7: school bus to one of our school superintendents, and on
• 2:46
  Speaker 7: and on.
• 2:47
Speaker 5: So lots going on.
• 2:48
Speaker 3: Always great to be back in West Virginia.
• 2:50
Speaker 5: It's so nice, especially this time of year too.
• 2:54
Speaker 7: Yeah, and just the tension level goes way down left
• 2:57
Speaker 7: Washington on Friday for they let us out for campaigning
• 3:02
Speaker 7: and a lot of people are campaigning.
• 3:04
  Speaker 5: I don't have a campaign this year, so I'm.
• 3:06
Speaker 7: Doing a little bit of that for other people, but
• 3:08
Speaker 7: also just moving around the state. Going to be in
• 3:11
Speaker 7: southern West Virginia later on in the month, all around,
• 3:14
  Speaker 7: wheeling everywhere.
• 3:16
Speaker 3: Senator, the whole world is watching the events overseas with
• 3:19
Speaker 3: the Iranian attack on Israel. Give us your overall thoughts
• 3:23
Speaker 3: on the whole situation.
• 3:24
Speaker 7: Well, I have been and will continue to be a
• 3:26
Speaker 7: stead fast supporter of Israel. I feel that Israel is
• 3:30
Speaker 7: the lone democracy, the friend and ally of the United States.
• 3:34
Speaker 7: And what we saw happen on October seventh, and that's
• 3:37
Speaker 7: coming up, the one year anniversary of that horrible day
• 3:40
Speaker 7: is coming up very shortly. To see the brutal attack
• 3:43
Speaker 7: and killing of over one thousand Jews and others Americans
• 3:47
Speaker 7: and others nationals. Also a lot of sexual violence that
• 3:52
Speaker 7: is just appalling, hard to even imagine or even read about.
• 3:56
Speaker 5: And then you have this.
• 3:57
Speaker 7: Global conflict of Hesbala launching thousands of miss into northern Israel,
• 4:01
Speaker 7: which is to displaced eighty thousand or more Israelis into
• 4:05
Speaker 7: the southern I mean, if you've ever been to Israel,
• 4:07
Speaker 7: and many West Virginians have. It's a very small country.
• 4:10
Speaker 5: And so I think Israel has the right to protect itself.
• 4:13
Speaker 7: And I'm going to defend their right to retaliate and
• 4:18
Speaker 7: for their right to try to strive for peace and
• 4:22
Speaker 7: tranquility there to end the terrorist attacks that are just
• 4:26
Speaker 7: constant in that country. And that's what my position is
• 4:30
Speaker 7: and will always be.
• 4:31
Speaker 3: Talk about Senator Shelley Moore, Capito and Studio this morning. Senator,
• 4:35
Speaker 3: there was a report that came out earlier this week about,
• 4:38
Speaker 3: shall we say, some of these shortcomings that occurred by
• 4:40
Speaker 3: the Secret Service on the date that former President Trump
• 4:44
Speaker 3: survived the assassination attempt in July. You sent a letter
• 4:48
Speaker 3: earlier this week. Talk about the letter that you sent,
• 4:51
Speaker 3: and basically it was about beefing up technology and just
• 4:54
Speaker 3: doing a better job over I'll talk about that.
• 4:55
Speaker 7: You know, It's really amazing to me that I even
• 4:57
Speaker 7: have to write a letter to call attention to the
• 4:59
Speaker 7: secret US in the Department of Homeland Security about how
• 5:02
Speaker 7: important coordinated communications are between locals and UH State security
• 5:10
Speaker 7: of entities with the Secret Service during a presidential or
• 5:15
Speaker 7: former president visit. I mean, we've had presidential visits here
• 5:19
Speaker 7: in West Virginia numerous I mean George Bush came here
• 5:22
Speaker 7: many many times. In President Trump came and I've I've
• 5:25
Speaker 7: experienced that my staff has too to try to make
• 5:28
Speaker 7: it as safe as possible, and uh, you know, to
• 5:31
Speaker 7: think at the shortcomings that it looks like the Keystone cops.
• 5:35
Speaker 7: I mean, they weren't even talking to one another. They
• 5:37
Speaker 7: spotted somebody on the roof. The locals did they couldn't
• 5:39
Speaker 7: even get the message to the Secret Service. The Secret
• 5:42
Speaker 7: Service then decides, well, they here's somebody suspicious. He's got
• 5:45
Speaker 7: arranged fineries on the top of the roof. Well, we're
• 5:47
Speaker 7: not going to pull President Trump off the stage. We
• 5:49
Speaker 7: don't really think it warrants that we had a drone,
• 5:52
Speaker 7: we didn't know how to use it. We call the
• 5:53
Speaker 7: one eight hundred number.
• 5:55
  Speaker 5: I mean, I was just.
• 5:58
Speaker 7: Yes, yes, to try to figure out how to work
• 6:02
Speaker 7: the drone when this guy who was the shooter had
• 6:05
Speaker 7: already flown a drone over the area two or three
• 6:08
  Speaker 7: hours before.
• 6:09
Speaker 3: And it just get a seven year old kid out
• 6:11
Speaker 3: of the out of the crowd and tell and have
• 6:12
Speaker 3: them explain it to you exactly to do.
• 6:15
Speaker 5: Exactly they know how to do.
• 6:16
Speaker 7: All that so I think my message to them to
• 6:20
Speaker 7: the in my letter was to basically say, there's technologies
• 6:23
Speaker 7: out there to get communication channels. You know, you don't
• 6:26
Speaker 7: have to rely on texts. Sometimes techs aren't reliable, they
• 6:29
Speaker 7: come through later. Uh, and so don't rely on texts,
• 6:33
Speaker 7: do the do the old fashioned way, get the highest
• 6:35
Speaker 7: technology possible through uh, through what's available. And and so
• 6:40
Speaker 7: that was my plea to them to this should never
• 6:44
Speaker 7: happen again. I mean it, they should be embarrassed. I'm
• 6:46
Speaker 7: sure they are. Some have lost their jobs over it,
• 6:49
Speaker 7: and should and uh. I think what we have to
• 6:52
Speaker 7: remember with President Trump in particular, is there are forces
• 6:56
Speaker 7: out there who really do want to end his life.
• 6:59
Speaker 7: And I think think that's the stark reality here. And
• 7:02
Speaker 7: to deny beefed up security for President Trump, I think
• 7:06
Speaker 7: is another black mark on the performance of the Secret
• 7:12
Speaker 7: Service and honestly President Biden, because they ask for beefed
• 7:16
Speaker 7: up security in that particular instance and were denied it,
• 7:19
Speaker 7: well you can see that was a bad decision.
• 7:22
Speaker 3: Talking to you with Senator Shelley Moore, Cappado, the Dave

• 7:45
Speaker 3: Just a couple of weeks from the election, as you
• 7:47
Speaker 3: said to you or not, you're not campaigning this time around.
• 7:50
Speaker 3: I know you're keeping an eye on all the races,
• 7:53
Speaker 3: but particularly the race for the White House. We thought
• 7:56
Speaker 3: it was going to be Biden v. Trump. Turns out
• 7:58
Speaker 3: it's going to be Harris v. Trump.
• 8:00
Speaker 7: Your thoughts, well, when I look back to June, the
• 8:03
Speaker 7: whole discussion was ten million people here illegally under Biden's watch?
• 8:08
Speaker 5: How could he possibly do that?
• 8:09
  Speaker 7: That's still a big topic and that's still a very
• 8:11
Speaker 7: legitimate question that should be asked and they have no
• 8:15
  Speaker 7: answer to.
• 8:16
Speaker 5: But we thought it was gonna be Biden.
• 8:17
Speaker 8: Then we have the debate.
• 8:18
Speaker 7: All of a sudden, it's pretty evident he can't serve
• 8:20
Speaker 7: another four years, So then it changes that then President
• 8:24
Speaker 7: Trump gets shot. Then Israel and Hesbela engage in aggressive actions,
• 8:32
Speaker 7: missiles and such. I mean, the news cycle, I mean,
• 8:36
Speaker 7: you're doing it all the time, is so short that
• 8:39
Speaker 7: we don't know what's going to happen. People keep talking
• 8:41
Speaker 7: about October surprise. Well, yesterday, Jack Smith, I think politically
• 8:46
Speaker 7: drops on Trump's head his dossier of wrongdoings in the
• 8:52
Speaker 7: court case. I don't think there's any mistake in that
• 8:55
Speaker 7: that was dropped on Tuesday after Senator Vance basically I
• 9:01
Speaker 7: think performed magnificently in his debate, So that was good
• 9:05
Speaker 7: news for the Trumpet campaign. Jack Smith comes in with
• 9:08
Speaker 7: this political I think Department of Justice move so I
• 9:12
Speaker 7: think every day is going.
• 9:14
Speaker 5: To be different. I think it's gonna be so close.
• 9:15
Speaker 7: I don't think anybody's gonna call it until the very end,
• 9:19
Speaker 7: even if they do. I mean, you see the averages
• 9:21
Speaker 7: move back and forth. West Virginia will go big for
• 9:24
Speaker 7: President Trump. We know that, yeah, and I think that
• 9:28
Speaker 7: is a tribute to the policies that the president had
• 9:30
Speaker 7: when he was in office.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: Are you concerned about the outcome of the election. Obviously
• 9:35
Speaker 3: you're concerned about it because you know, being a Senate
• 9:37
Speaker 3: of representing West Virginia and serving in Washington. But if
• 9:43
Speaker 3: the election is as close as many pundits are saying
• 9:46
Speaker 3: that it will be possibly the closest election in US history,
• 9:49
Speaker 3: how concerned are you that whichever side is the losing
• 9:53
Speaker 3: side may not take it so well.
• 9:55
Speaker 7: Well, I think that is an area of concern. But
• 9:57
Speaker 7: I think, you know, in my view, we've done a
• 10:00
Speaker 7: lot to make our elections more secure following twenty twenty.
• 10:03
Speaker 7: Twenty twenty wasn't an exceptional year because we were right
• 10:07
Speaker 7: in the middle of COVID. There were a lot more
• 10:09
Speaker 7: remote there was a lot more on the fly kind
• 10:12
Speaker 7: of election provisions in several states, and there were some questions.
• 10:17
Speaker 7: But I think I believe that our elections are very secure.
• 10:21
Speaker 7: I believe in West Virginia we have excellent election protocols
• 10:25
Speaker 7: to secure our elections and our ballots. And I want
• 10:28
Speaker 7: people to have faith in the system. And I'm hoping
• 10:31
Speaker 7: that the two major candidates will at the end of
• 10:34
Speaker 7: the day except the results and let us move on
• 10:38
Speaker 7: to governing. We have so many things on our plate
• 10:41
Speaker 7: that we really need to have faith in the eventual winner.
• 10:46
Speaker 3: But I don't think I wanted to bring up last week.
• 10:48
Speaker 3: I think it was last week we reported that you
• 10:51
Speaker 3: attended the naturalization ceremonies here in Charleston. I've never seen
• 10:55
Speaker 3: one of those in person, but I've seen our coverage
• 10:57
Speaker 3: of it in the other TV stations and whatnot. It's
• 10:59
Speaker 3: a pretty cool thing to see. It's very cool.
• 11:00

• 11:11
Speaker 7: if needed, either in military, community service. Bright smiling faces
• 11:16
Speaker 7: of families from all over the world. And it really
• 11:20
Speaker 7: is if you ever get a chance to go to one,
• 11:22
Speaker 7: you ought to do it because it's a very patriotic event.
• 11:25
Speaker 5: I want to thank Judge Folk.

Speaker 3: cleanup tomorrow. This is the final one on the schedule.
• 15:02
Speaker 3: Cabin Creek behind Go Mars that right now. Tell me
• 15:04
  Speaker 3: about it.
• 15:05
Speaker 13: So, first off, it's been extremely successful this fall with
• 15:09
Speaker 13: our county cleanups, and I think a lot of that's
• 15:10
Speaker 13: due to the marketing that we've been doing making sure
• 15:13
Speaker 13: we get the information out to everyone in Canal County.
• 15:15
Speaker 13: So I want to thank you this station and all
• 15:18
Speaker 13: the other stations too. It's been covering these and getting
• 15:21
Speaker 13: them word out that we're going to have these with
• 15:23
Speaker 13: the dates and times. This weekend is going to be
• 15:26
Speaker 13: our last one, and so if you've missed the last two,
• 15:29
Speaker 13: whether that's because a WU game was on or maybe
• 15:32
Speaker 13: just things came up on a Saturday, we get it.
• 15:34
Speaker 13: But this is the last one, and usually this is
• 15:36
Speaker 13: when we see the most people come out because of
• 15:39
Speaker 13: a little bit of that procrastination. But being in Cabin Creek,
• 15:42
Speaker 13: I think we see a lot of people come out
• 15:44
Speaker 13: as well because they just have a difficult time trying
• 15:46
Speaker 13: to get rid of the debris, getting rid of the
• 15:49
Speaker 13: tires and the appliances, things like that. It's a little
• 15:52
Speaker 13: bit more difficult for those in the unincorporate areas, and
• 15:54
Speaker 13: that's why we hold these in those areas. So we're
• 15:56
Speaker 13: going to have it this Saturday right behind the Go
• 15:58
Speaker 13: Mart there in Cabin Creek. Come early. It's going to
• 16:01
Speaker 13: start at eight am. It's going to go all the
• 16:03
Speaker 13: way to four pm. If you're in line at three
• 16:05
Speaker 13: point fifty, we're not going to turn you away, so
• 16:09
Speaker 13: you can get there at three point fifty. We're going
• 16:10
Speaker 13: to make sure we take care of everyone. We're going
• 16:13
Speaker 13: to accept anything from medals to air conditioner units to boats.
• 16:17
Speaker 13: You know, I've said that many times. We actually had
• 16:19
Speaker 13: somebody come to one of ours and actually dropped off
• 16:22
Speaker 13: a boat. We took care of it.
• 16:23
Speaker 3: I remember you told me that last time we were here.
• 16:25
Speaker 13: Yeah, and know, And so we're going to do everything
• 16:27
Speaker 13: we can. And the reason we do this is because
• 16:29
Speaker 13: we want to make sure that this debris doesn't end
• 16:31
Speaker 13: up in our culverts, it doesn't end up in our rivers,
• 16:33
Speaker 13: doesn't end up in undeveloped lands. This is just to
• 16:37
Speaker 13: take care of our environment and also make sure we
• 16:40
Speaker 13: take care of our constituents giving them an opportunity to
• 16:42
Speaker 13: get rid of this debris.
• 16:44
Speaker 3: And even though this one, just like with the other
• 16:46
Speaker 3: one's commissioner just you know, this one is being held
• 16:48
Speaker 3: in Cabin Creek, but people can come from anywhere in
• 16:50
Speaker 3: Kannah County and drop off the stuff. That's just where
• 16:52
Speaker 3: you happen to be setting up shop. But people can
• 16:54
Speaker 3: come from other areas if they miss the as you said,
• 16:56
Speaker 3: if they missed some of the other ones.
• 16:57
Speaker 13: Yeah, we try to spread it out as you've seen.
• 17:00
Speaker 13: You know, we've been at Elk View, We've been at
• 17:02
Speaker 13: South Charleston. This is going to be at Cabin Creek.
• 17:04
Speaker 13: We try to spread it out to make it a
• 17:05
Speaker 13: little bit more convenient. You know, Kennall County is a
• 17:07
Speaker 13: large county, nine hundred and eleven square miles, and so
• 17:10
Speaker 13: we try to spread it out. But what we want
• 17:13
Speaker 13: to make sure we do is get the word out
• 17:15
Speaker 13: that you can come to any of these. This one's
• 17:18
Speaker 13: going to be in Cabin Creek. We're going to start
• 17:20
Speaker 13: this again in the spring, and so we're going to
• 17:22
Speaker 13: continue to do these. We've done this for a long time.
• 17:24
Speaker 13: They're very popular. We get a lot of people who
• 17:26
Speaker 13: thank us for doing that, and you know, getting a
• 17:28
Speaker 13: thank you in government is always a good thing, and
• 17:31
Speaker 13: so being able to offer these, it's good again for
• 17:35
Speaker 13: the environment, it's good for the people. And I can
• 17:38
Speaker 13: say the one thing we always talk about a lot
• 17:39
Speaker 13: is tires. Right, it's hard to dispose of a tire. Well,
• 17:43
Speaker 13: we're proud that we sponsored with dep here in state
• 17:47
Speaker 13: of West Virginia. They come out, they are able to
• 17:49
Speaker 13: collect the tires and of the last two that we've
• 17:52
Speaker 13: held Dave just as Fall, we've collected over thirty eight
• 17:55
  Speaker 13: hundred tires.
• 17:57
  Speaker 3: That's amazing.
• 17:57
Speaker 13: And those are thirty eight hundred tires. It's not going
• 17:59
Speaker 13: to be in our culverts and our rivers. And you know,
• 18:01
Speaker 13: you see these messages in Facebook posts all the time,
• 18:04
Speaker 13: people saying there's a tire here, or there's trash here.
• 18:07
Speaker 13: We want to make sure that we prevent that from
• 18:09
  Speaker 13: ever happening.
• 18:10
Speaker 3: I mean, and there's no reason not to it again.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: You take just about anything. As we said, when you've
• 18:14
Speaker 3: been on here before, Commissionary, it's easier to tell you
• 18:16
Speaker 3: what you don't take. No gas or pro paine tanks,
• 18:20
Speaker 3: no hazardous waste, paints, chemicals, motor oil. But other than that,
• 18:24
Speaker 3: as you said, somebody gave a boat. Yeah, once before,
• 18:26
Speaker 3: somebody brought a boat.
• 18:26
Speaker 13: I mean, we've had people and I've mentioned it before.
• 18:28
Speaker 13: I think it's important because a lot of times you
• 18:30
Speaker 13: think I have an air conditioner unit. It has free
• 18:32
Speaker 13: on in it. You know, I can't dispose of that.
• 18:34
  Speaker 6: We have a.
• 18:35
Speaker 13: Company that actually a vendor that comes in and they
• 18:37
Speaker 13: will remove the free on from the condensery units so
• 18:40
Speaker 13: that way we can properly recycle it. This is how
• 18:43
Speaker 13: much this goes into. We've got a vendor who comes
• 18:45
Speaker 13: in just for electronics. You've got a TV that's sitting
• 18:49
Speaker 13: in the garage, it's got a crack on it, you
• 18:51
Speaker 13: just hard to get rid of. You can bring it
• 18:54
Speaker 13: in and what we do is we don't just dispose
• 18:56
Speaker 13: of it. We properly recycle it and make sure that
• 18:58
Speaker 13: it's taken care of and it's not sitting in a landfill.
• 19:01
Speaker 3: And compare and contrast these cleanups that you've had with
• 19:05
Speaker 3: maybe ones in the past, and these been the biggest
• 19:06
Speaker 3: ones you've had so far or well, you know, I
• 19:08
Speaker 3: guess once you get through this one ye.
• 19:10
Speaker 13: Yeah, of the last two, this is this is a
• 19:12
Speaker 13: record breaking turnout. And again I think that's because, you know,
• 19:15
Speaker 13: Commissioner Slango, Commissioner Sloting, and myself have villagedly this fall
• 19:19
Speaker 13: been making sure we're going out, coming on radio, going
• 19:22
Speaker 13: on TV, you know, doing social media, really trying to
• 19:25
Speaker 13: spread that message because there's a lot of people. Even
• 19:27
Speaker 13: though we've been doing this for a very very long time,
• 19:30
Speaker 13: a lot of people still didn't know or they forget,
• 19:33
Speaker 13: and so we want to make sure we remind people.
• 19:35
Speaker 13: And again, I think this weekend is going to be
• 19:37
Speaker 13: the largest that we've probably ever seen for this up
• 19:40
Speaker 13: for Cabin Creek. And so we're going to start at
• 19:42
Speaker 13: eight am. Usually there's a long line starting at eight am,
• 19:46
Speaker 13: but we're going to encourage everyone to get there as
• 19:48
Speaker 13: soon as possible so the way we can get everybody
• 19:51
Speaker 13: in and out throughout the day.
• 19:53
Speaker 3: Talking with the Kanan County Commission President Lance Wheeler to

Speaker 3: health today. We'll let's circle back a little bit later
• 20:20
Speaker 3: on and talk about and we'll give the people the
• 20:22
Speaker 3: information again as we close. But as I couldn't help
• 20:25
Speaker 3: it over here, as Senator Capita was leaving the studio
• 20:27
Speaker 3: and you were coming in, you passed in the hall.
• 20:29
Speaker 3: The first thing you said to her after your good
• 20:30
Speaker 3: morning greetings was we got to get you out on
• 20:32
Speaker 3: the hatfil McCoy trail over in Tornado. And I know,
• 20:36
Speaker 3: having known Senator Capito for a long time, she's the
• 20:38
Speaker 3: type that will take you up on that. So you're
• 20:41
Speaker 3: obviously very proud of the work that's gone into the
• 20:43
  Speaker 3: hatful McCoy Trail.
• 20:44
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 20:45
Speaker 13: Well, I'm very proud of the work that we've done
• 20:47
Speaker 13: and I'm very proud to share that with everyone. The
• 20:50
Speaker 13: thing about the thing about Senator shellymore Capito is that
• 20:53
Speaker 13: she gets it when it comes to tourism. She understands
• 20:56
Speaker 13: that we at West Virginia have a gym with our
• 20:59
Speaker 13: outdoor recreation. I mean, she's the one that fought to
• 21:02
Speaker 13: make sure that we had a national park right here
• 21:05
Speaker 13: in West Virginia, and so she understands that she's a
• 21:09
Speaker 13: supporter of it. We actually asked assistance from her on
• 21:14
Speaker 13: looking at some renovations at Coonskin Park, and she's been
• 21:17
Speaker 13: on the phone with us, her and her office, fighting
• 21:20
Speaker 13: for Kennall County, fighting for outdoor recreation, fighting for our parks,
• 21:23
Speaker 13: and so I want to make sure that that is
• 21:25
Speaker 13: known that she is a fighter for us. I'm proud
• 21:28
Speaker 13: to stand with her and making sure and being able
• 21:30
Speaker 13: to work with her and that we can do that
• 21:31
Speaker 13: for tourism. But we've seen even more growth since I
• 21:34
Speaker 13: last talked to you about the hat film McCoy trails.
• 21:37
Speaker 13: The trails I was told just the week prior on
• 21:40
Speaker 13: a Saturday, we had over one hundred riders come out
• 21:44
Speaker 13: just for that day. And these are not just people
• 21:46
Speaker 13: from Saint Aubans, Nitro Right Charleston, Eastern Kannall County. These
• 21:51
Speaker 13: are people from throughout the state and outside the state.
• 21:55
  Speaker 14: We had a.
• 21:56
Speaker 13: Group of people from Kentucky who drove in one day
• 22:00
Speaker 13: just to be here. We're getting interest from developers. They're
• 22:03
Speaker 13: starting to call a lot of the Charles'snary Alliance, my office,
• 22:07
Speaker 13: our CBB, and we're trying to make sure that we
• 22:09
Speaker 13: work with them because they're interested. They see the impact
• 22:12
Speaker 13: on this and the development that can come from it.
• 22:15
Speaker 13: And not only is that hard earned dollars spent right
• 22:17
Speaker 13: here on our local businesses, our mom and pop shops,
• 22:20
Speaker 13: our restaurants, our hotels, our gas stations, but this is
• 22:25
Speaker 13: also jobs that can be created. And so we haven't
• 22:28
Speaker 13: really even marketed this yet. We're still working on that
• 22:32
Speaker 13: because we're coming outside that season. We're going to get
• 22:34
Speaker 13: ready in the spring, but right now we're looking at
• 22:37
Speaker 13: a lot of people, excuse me, a lot of people
• 22:40
Speaker 13: coming in and developers coming in. So we're going to
• 22:43
Speaker 13: see a huge influx of money coming in from this
• 22:46
Speaker 13: Hata McCoy. We're going to see it with the Capital
• 22:49
Speaker 13: Sports Complex, We're going to see it with Shawnee. The
• 22:51
Speaker 13: amount of work that we're putting in there. We are
• 22:53
Speaker 13: really working together, and a lot of that is the
• 22:55
Speaker 13: work with Commissioner Slango, Commissioner Slotnik and myself really understand
• 23:00
Speaker 13: that Conall County can be a county of tourism, something
• 23:02
Speaker 13: that was thought of that's not possible where the chemical valley,
• 23:05
Speaker 13: where the seat of government. No, we believe that tourism
• 23:09
Speaker 13: can be one of those main factors and when it
• 23:11
Speaker 13: comes to our economy, and we're starting to.
• 23:13
Speaker 3: See that indeed. And I can tell you as you
• 23:16
Speaker 3: and I've talked in the past about being from southern
• 23:18
Speaker 3: West Virginia, you know, the Hafya McCoy Trail has been
• 23:20
Speaker 3: a thing in Logan Mingo Boom, you know, on down
• 23:24
Speaker 3: McDowell County for the last twenty well over twenty years.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: And one of the biggest problems that they've had down
• 23:30
Speaker 3: there with the trail is that there's just not enough
• 23:32
Speaker 3: places for people to stay. And matter of fact, Jeff Lusk,
• 23:36
Speaker 3: I've talked to Jeff served, the director of the trail,
• 23:38
Speaker 3: several times that's probably the biggest issue that they have
• 23:42
Speaker 3: is that they just don't have enough places for people
• 23:45
Speaker 3: to see to stay and these people that come in
• 23:48
Speaker 3: to ride the trails. Now, as you said, this is
• 23:50
Speaker 3: a very expensive sport. You know with these guys and
• 23:53
Speaker 3: gals do they travel from all over but you know,
• 23:57
Speaker 3: generally speaking, they're kicked in mud at the day that
• 24:00
Speaker 3: you don't need to give them the greenbrier necessary, although
• 24:02
Speaker 3: maybe you could get the green bar, but anyway, it's
• 24:04
Speaker 3: another story. So you just need a place for them
• 24:07
Speaker 3: to stay, you know, a bed and breakfast, a simple motel.
• 24:09
Speaker 3: It doesn't have to be five you know, it doesn't
• 24:11
Speaker 3: have to be top of the line stuff here.
• 24:13
Speaker 13: Yeah, Hatfilm McCoy told me that they said the one
• 24:15
Speaker 13: thing that they do struggle with when they look at
• 24:17
Speaker 13: southern West Virginia is the infrastructure that can exist to
• 24:20
Speaker 13: have that influx of tourism. Now, look how great that's
• 24:23
Speaker 13: been for them, And they're still working on that infrastructure,
• 24:26
Speaker 13: getting developers to come in, have those cabins, have those
• 24:28
Speaker 13: RV hookups. Look how great that's been for them. We're
• 24:31
Speaker 13: now talking about Hafil McCoy being in Kennall County and
• 24:34
Speaker 13: the influx it's going to come in from those writers
• 24:37
Speaker 13: just to Knall County, and that infrastructure is already there.
• 24:39
Speaker 13: We're not talking about bringing new restaurants. We're talking about
• 24:42
Speaker 13: supporting existing restaurants that are already able to be self
• 24:45
Speaker 13: sustainable on their own from the locals and everything else.
• 24:48
Speaker 13: And now we're increasing the numbers that they're going to
• 24:50
Speaker 13: be able to see. So we're already ahead of the
• 24:53
Speaker 13: game when it comes to Hat film McCoy being in
• 24:56
Speaker 13: Keannall County. We have that infrastructure, we have a lot
• 24:58
Speaker 13: of interests of people coming in more so I think
• 25:02
Speaker 13: that that's going to be the key point. And that's
• 25:04
Speaker 13: why I was so excited that I knew if we
• 25:06
Speaker 13: could get Hat from McCoy here where we already have
• 25:08
Speaker 13: the hotels, we already have the restaurants, we already have
• 25:11
Speaker 13: the infrastructure for roads and interstates. This is an easy,
• 25:14
Speaker 13: accessible idea that hey, hey, we can market this to
• 25:17
Speaker 13: people to say we want you to come to Kanall
• 25:19
Speaker 13: County not just for the Hat from McCoy, trails and
• 25:21
Speaker 13: dirt bikes, but for everything else we offer, whether it's Regatta,
• 25:25
Speaker 13: whether it's Live on the Levee, whether it's going to
• 25:29
Speaker 13: a national park. You know, you could make a trip
• 25:31
Speaker 13: to Kanall County and make an entire vacation out of
• 25:35
Speaker 13: it around the dirt bike trails.
• 25:37
Speaker 3: And you know, again those of us that are here,
• 25:39
Speaker 3: and I've talked about my experience down south, you know,
• 25:42
Speaker 3: we just kind of overlook it. You know, we just think,
• 25:44
Speaker 3: I'll look at their mountains. It's a lot bigger deal
• 25:47
Speaker 3: in many cases, Commissioner. It's a lot bigger deal to
• 25:49
Speaker 3: people away from here than it is. And it's kind
• 25:52
Speaker 3: of like when you think about the beach. You know,
• 25:54
Speaker 3: if they live, you know, right on the beach or
• 25:55
Speaker 3: ten miles from the beach, they may not necessarily think
• 25:58
Speaker 3: it's a big deal. But West Virginias think it's huge deal,
• 26:00
Speaker 3: and we go there every year. The same with things
• 26:02
Speaker 3: like the Hata McCoy trail and these other things we have.
• 26:05
Speaker 3: It's it's a major deal and it's an economic driver. Commissioner.
• 26:10
Speaker 13: Yeah, we haven't. Again I mentioned we haven't marketed this.
• 26:12
Speaker 13: This is all organic. This just from Facebook posts from
• 26:15
Speaker 13: Hata McCoy saying we've opened a new trail for dirt
• 26:17
Speaker 13: bikes and we're already seeing massive amount of people coming
• 26:20
Speaker 13: all across the nation. You know, I've said this before, but
• 26:22
Speaker 13: I think this is important so we can see the success.
• 26:25
Speaker 13: Right when we opened, we had a RV of a
• 26:28
Speaker 13: family of four drive from New York just for this
• 26:30
Speaker 13: trail system. We had somebody, we had an influencer from Colorado.
• 26:34
  Speaker 3: An influencer commissioner.
• 26:36
Speaker 13: Yeah, he has an Instagram, so he's an influencer. It's
• 26:39
Speaker 13: more than me. He flew in from Colorado just to
• 26:43
Speaker 13: ride this trail system. He flew his bike to get
• 26:47
Speaker 13: the bike here, flew everything, he had everything delivered here
• 26:49
Speaker 13: so he was able to come here.
• 26:51
Speaker 8: And that's the interest of this.
• 26:53
Speaker 13: Somebody from Colorado who is a influencer and an avid
• 26:56
Speaker 13: rider saw this trail system and thought I have to
• 26:59
Speaker 13: go ride that as as soon as possible. He came
• 27:01
Speaker 13: in on his own his own dime, rode the system.
• 27:04
  Speaker 13: It's on YouTube. It's great, and so we've had a
• 27:07
Speaker 13: lot of those people coming in with their go pros
• 27:09
Speaker 13: and showing the trails and the same thing. They say,
• 27:11
Speaker 13: it's exciting, and it's sometimes some of those trails can
• 27:15
Speaker 13: be difficult. So it's great for all ages. It's great
• 27:18
Speaker 13: for all riders. If you are an avid rider and
• 27:20
Speaker 13: you like that trail system. You're going up a slope
• 27:23
Speaker 13: on a rocky, you know terrain, You're going to love this.
• 27:25
Speaker 13: If you like to kind of just coast around a
• 27:27
Speaker 13: little bit and just you know, enjoy the scenery, you're
• 27:30
Speaker 13: going to love this trail. This is the perfect trail
• 27:33
Speaker 13: system in the nation for dirt bikers. And we're proud
• 27:35
Speaker 13: to have it here in Kennell County and we're going
• 27:37
Speaker 13: to be proud to market it.
• 27:38
Speaker 3: What else is on your mind? What else you've been
• 27:40
Speaker 3: working on here lately?
• 27:41
Speaker 13: Well, we're still working on the opi wood settlement money.
• 27:43
Speaker 13: We've been talking about this for a while, you know,
• 27:45
Speaker 13: as you all know, we you know, the state, through
• 27:48
Speaker 13: Patrick Morris here, Attorney General, was able to obtain a
• 27:50
Speaker 13: million dollars in the settlement for the negative impact that
• 27:53
Speaker 13: West Virginia had felt from the opioid problem that we've
• 27:57
Speaker 13: had for decades. At this time, the Knell County commissi
• 28:00
Speaker 13: and has about nine hundred thousand dollars still sitting. We've
• 28:03
Speaker 13: been giving it out. Just on Tuesday, we gave two
• 28:06
Speaker 13: hundred and fifty thousand dollars to Goodwill to help them
• 28:09
Speaker 13: with their to help them with their program where they're
• 28:15
Speaker 13: going to be looking at people who are needing job
• 28:18
Speaker 13: training coming out of addiction. And so that's the key
• 28:21
Speaker 13: part to this. It's not just about treatment, right, This
• 28:23
Speaker 13: is about treatment, it's about prevention, and this is about
• 28:26
Speaker 13: helping those people who have received that treatment because addiction
• 28:29
Speaker 13: doesn't go away. You don't just get rid of addiction.
• 28:32
Speaker 13: You're going to be struggling with this for a long time.
• 28:34
Speaker 13: You know, we gave two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
• 28:36
Speaker 13: to Union Mission and what they told me was they
• 28:39
Speaker 13: have a statistic that showed that if you can have
• 28:41
Speaker 13: somebody go through treatment and be cleaned for five years,
• 28:44
Speaker 13: it seems like a long time, but five years, you
• 28:47
Speaker 13: have a ninety percent chance of success rate that that
• 28:49
Speaker 13: individual will never fall back on the wagon ever again.
• 28:53
Speaker 13: And I think that's important that we have those numbers
• 28:55
Speaker 13: because we need to now know it's not just about
• 28:57
Speaker 13: getting somebody treatment and getting them help. It's about help
• 29:00
Speaker 13: them through that long period for five years and making
• 29:03
Speaker 13: sure that we don't have this problem ever rear its
• 29:06
Speaker 13: ugly head ever again.
• 29:08
Speaker 3: Galla County Commission President Lances Wheeler's always a pleasure to
• 29:10
Speaker 3: have you on the show man, Thanks a lot, Hey,
• 29:12
Speaker 3: thanks for having me and you were getting a little
• 29:14
Speaker 3: choked up there and a text out front and I said,
• 29:17
Speaker 3: can can we get you some water? Now? That's like
• 29:19

Speaker 3: Saturday in Nitro from ten to one there's going to
• 34:06
Speaker 3: be a Veterans outreach program. Now it's set up in
• 34:09
Speaker 3: Nitro between twenty first and nineteenth streets. Jim Lewis is
• 34:12
Speaker 3: the regional supervisor with the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance,
• 34:15
Speaker 3: and he joins us now. Jim, good morning, welcome to
• 34:17
  Speaker 3: the show.
• 34:18
Speaker 17: Good morning, sir, thank you.
• 34:19
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. So tell us what's going
• 34:21
Speaker 3: on in Nitro Friday Saturday. Tell us about it.
• 34:24
Speaker 17: Well, it's just basically an information fair. So far, I
• 34:29
Speaker 17: have twenty two vendors that are showing up to shop
• 34:35
Speaker 17: their wares for the veteran community. It's free to all veterans.
• 34:39
Speaker 17: Like you said, it's from ten o'clock to one o'clock.
• 34:42
Speaker 17: It's at Living Memorial Park in Nitro. Come on out,
• 34:47
Speaker 17: bring your questions. The VMC will be there. The mobile
• 34:52
Speaker 17: clinic will be there from the VMC in Huntington. Our
• 34:56
Speaker 17: department will be there. Answer any questions about benefits, monetary
• 34:59
Speaker 17: benefits from the regional office. Make us stay late, schedule
• 35:06
  Speaker 17: ten to one.
• 35:07
Speaker 3: You want to say at one thirty or two to
• 35:08
Speaker 3: get all the questions answered. When you have the Jim,
• 35:11
Speaker 3: when you do these different events in various areas, what
• 35:14
Speaker 3: are the typical questions that you get or the typical
• 35:17
Speaker 3: person that shows up. I know everybody's got a different story,
• 35:19
Speaker 3: but what typically do you see at these things nowadays?
• 35:24
Speaker 17: It's basically the Packed Act, the law that President Biden
• 35:29
Speaker 17: signed in in August of twenty twenty two. It expanded
• 35:34
Speaker 17: exposures toxic exposures for veterans going all the way back
• 35:37
Speaker 17: to Vietnam, added a couple of new conditions to that list,
• 35:42
Speaker 17: widened out the area for that exposure to herbicides. The
• 35:48
Speaker 17: Packed Act mainly went after all the Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Afghanistan, OIF, EIF,
• 35:58
Speaker 17: and those veterans. There's a myriad of disabilities that came
• 36:02
Speaker 17: from those as well, mostly breathing stuff. This Act was
• 36:06
Speaker 17: born from the particulate in burn pits. They just consolidated
• 36:10
Speaker 17: it all together. Named after Startin first Class Robinson, who
• 36:15
Speaker 17: basically bugged Congress until they passed this law.
• 36:20
Speaker 3: And this is open gym to any veteran, right, I mean,
• 36:23
Speaker 3: it doesn't necessarily have to be a veteran that served
• 36:25
Speaker 3: in combat. As long as you're a veteran, you're welcome
• 36:27
Speaker 3: to attendance thing, is that right?
• 36:28
Speaker 17: Yes? Or any veteran all?
• 36:30
  Speaker 18: Right?
• 36:30
Speaker 3: Is there a like if people needed more information about
• 36:33
Speaker 3: it prior to the event, a website or Facebook or
• 36:35
Speaker 3: a number something that people can call if they just
• 36:37
Speaker 3: have any questions about your particular event.
• 36:40
Speaker 17: We have a website, it's www dot Veterans wv dot gov.
• 36:47
Speaker 17: On there, I'll have an office locator that you can
• 36:50
Speaker 17: find an office closer to you. My office is out
• 36:53
Speaker 17: in South Charleston now on the corridor. We have fifteen
• 36:56
Speaker 17: field offices across the state. So I mean, if you're
• 36:59
Speaker 17: going away somewhere else, you have a resource to go to.
• 37:04
Speaker 3: Okay, in this event, give us the hours again. On Saturday.
• 37:08
Speaker 17: It's ten am to one pm Living Moral part Second
• 37:12
Speaker 17: Avenue between twenty first and nineteenth Street.
• 37:14
Speaker 3: And the weather looks fantastic for Saturday, but things change
• 37:18
Speaker 3: as we know. So I understand that you do plan
• 37:20
Speaker 3: to if something were to happen, you're still going to
• 37:22
Speaker 3: have the event. You'll just move it indoors. But looking
• 37:24
Speaker 3: at the weather, I don't think that's going to be
• 37:25
Speaker 3: an issue. Jim is the Jim Lewis is the regional

• 37:58

• 38:01
Speaker 3: I probably shouldn't from time to time. But anything I
• 38:04
Speaker 3: can ever do to help veterans, I'm all about it.
• 38:07
Speaker 3: I did not serve in the military. My father did.
• 38:09
Speaker 3: He passed away mainly because of Agent Orange that he
• 38:13
Speaker 3: contracted while serving his country in Vietnam. So anytime anybody
• 38:16
Speaker 3: ever reaches out to me with anything veteran related, I
• 38:19
Speaker 3: am one hundred percent all about it. And I know
• 38:21
Speaker 3: my listeners are too. So if you know anybody, you
• 38:23
Speaker 3: know a veteran that's got any questions, they got concerns
• 38:26
Speaker 3: about everything from their benefits or they just have some questions.
• 38:29
Speaker 3: And as Jim said, there's already several people that they
• 38:31
Speaker 3: know are coming. This event again is going to be
• 38:34
Speaker 3: starting at ten am. They'll go to about one but
• 38:37
Speaker 3: as he said, feel free to keep them there late.

Speaker 3: what the status is of those in Kanaw County. I
• 39:13
Speaker 3: know what they are in some other areas. I don't
• 39:14
Speaker 3: know about Kanaw County or that could be a state issue.
• 39:16
Speaker 3: I'll look into it. How does that sound and I

Speaker 3: So we've all seen and it just continued to see
• 43:17
Speaker 3: the devastation that was righted by the hurricane last week,
• 43:20
Speaker 3: particularly as it has impacted areas of western North Carolina,
• 43:25
Speaker 3: and so many folks around the state, around the country
• 43:30
Speaker 3: are are pitching in to try to help. And of course,
• 43:32
Speaker 3: you know West Virginians, that's what we do. And I
• 43:34
Speaker 3: will get a plug in that. I know. Our guys,
• 43:36
Speaker 3: our guys and gals are our brethren up in Morgantown.
• 43:40
Speaker 3: Have got a big event going on up there today.
• 43:41
Speaker 3: We've got information posted about I actually have that posted
• 43:44
Speaker 3: on my on my ex the artist Formuly on a
• 43:46
Speaker 3: Twitter page, so you can go check that out there.
• 43:48
Speaker 3: But in Charleston, what are we doing here in Charleston? Well,
• 43:50
Speaker 3: I know there's several churches that are doing things, but
• 43:52
Speaker 3: the restaurants downtown wanted to get involved in Kevin Madison's here, Kevin,
• 43:55
Speaker 3: good morning, Here are you, sir? I'm good, he are you.
• 43:57
Speaker 3: I'm doing well and you.
• 43:58
Speaker 20: Are with Town Charleston Association. But I'm here to you know,
• 44:03
Speaker 20: talk about like you said, we've that's all we're seeing.
• 44:05
Speaker 20: You know, we're seeing all the pictures. You know, the
• 44:06
Speaker 20: damage is terrible, and you know a lot of us
• 44:09
Speaker 20: have personal connections. M You know, our brewer over at
• 44:13
Speaker 20: Bad Shepherd with Black Sheep, his brother lives in Ashville.
• 44:16
Speaker 20: You know, they're stranded on a hill.
• 44:18
Speaker 3: I mean literally stranded on the Asheville is a city
• 44:21
Speaker 3: that that I've spent some time in. As always said
• 44:23
Speaker 3: about Asheville, I spent a week there one night. Sure, Uh,
• 44:26
Speaker 3: but Ashville is a is a is a really really
• 44:28
Speaker 3: cool place. And I mean it doesn't matter where it happens,
• 44:31
Speaker 3: but I mean to see the devastation. As you said,
• 44:33
  Speaker 3: literally stranded.
• 44:34
Speaker 20: On a hill on a hill, no power, no water,
• 44:37
Speaker 20: no internet, electricity, no, no internet, no you got to
• 44:39
Speaker 20: you gotta turn your car on to charge your phone,
• 44:42
Speaker 20: you know, once a day. It's you know, it's it's crazy.
• 44:45
Speaker 20: And Asheville has been known as you know, a big
• 44:47
Speaker 20: arts community of several breweries. All of those breweries are
• 44:51
Speaker 20: closed indefinitely at this time. So uh, there's a lot
• 44:55
Speaker 20: of us that are coming together to you know, try
• 44:58
Speaker 20: to raise some funds and supplies and things of that nature.
• 45:02
Speaker 20: But I think Kelly has more of a personal connection.
• 45:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, I got Kelly cart here with how are you Kelly?
• 45:07
  Speaker 13: Great?
• 45:07
Speaker 21: Thanks thanks for having us.
• 45:08
Speaker 3: I was joking with you earlier during the break, I said,
• 45:10
Speaker 3: now have you been behind a microphone before? Because people
• 45:12
Speaker 3: will not in a while, but people people do remember
• 45:15
Speaker 3: you from your television stamp.
• 45:17
Speaker 21: You're about three years but yeah, I think a little
• 45:19
Speaker 21: probably maybe A not so well known fact is that
• 45:22
Speaker 21: my husband and I own and operate several restaurants along
• 45:25
Speaker 21: with his business partner Dave Andrews, three of them being downtown.
• 45:30
Speaker 21: So yeah, we have bar one on One, Itchy Bond
• 45:34
Speaker 21: and DT Prime, And like Kevin was saying, we all
• 45:37
Speaker 21: seem to have you know, we can all relate to
• 45:39
Speaker 21: these images that we're seeing in the heartbreak, and a
• 45:42
Speaker 21: lot of us have personal connections. My husband and I
• 45:45
Speaker 21: actually got married in Burnsville, which is one of the
• 45:47
Speaker 21: little tiny towns in western North Carolina that was just decimated.
• 45:51
Speaker 21: And the images are very difficult to see. But we
• 45:56
Speaker 21: are anniversary a or wed any anniversaries actually this weekend,
• 45:59
Speaker 21: oh really so, I mean it just the time the
• 46:00
Speaker 21: timing works out. But his parents have a place there.
• 46:04
Speaker 21: We go down probably four times a year or maybe
• 46:06
Speaker 21: five times as often as we can get down because
• 46:08
Speaker 21: we just love it down there, So it will it
• 46:10
Speaker 21: will never be the same. But we were so saddened
• 46:14
Speaker 21: by it, but we were also like so many people,
• 46:16
Speaker 21: wanting to know what we can do to help?
• 46:18
Speaker 3: So what exactly are we doing? I know that you
• 46:19
Speaker 3: said the restaurants are wanted to get involved. Give us
• 46:22
Speaker 3: the give us the details, man, all right, what's going on?
• 46:25
Speaker 20: Yes So yesterday, you know, we've got some amazing brewery
• 46:28
Speaker 20: partners here in Charleston, five Street Brewing. You know, they
• 46:31
Speaker 20: posted they're going to be donating fifteen percent of their
• 46:34
Speaker 20: proceeds on Saturday. And I reached out to John Q
• 46:37
Speaker 20: as we know him here and downtown Charleston. I said, hey,
• 46:40
Speaker 20: you know, can we can we get involved in this?
• 46:42
Speaker 20: And he's like yeah. I said, you know, you don't care.
• 46:44
  Speaker 20: I don't want to take I don't want to take
• 46:45
Speaker 20: your event. And he's like, no, man, we need to
• 46:47
Speaker 20: get these people some money. So now the list has
• 46:50
Speaker 20: grown Five Street, Black Sheet, Root and Bruce Ichi, von DT, Prime,
• 46:54
Speaker 20: Adelphia Sports Bar, Hail House, all of these businesses, and
• 46:59
Speaker 20: this list is going to grow.
• 47:00
Speaker 3: Okay, well this literally just came together like like ten
• 47:04
  Speaker 3: minutes ago yesterday.
• 47:06
Speaker 20: But you know, I've lived in West Virginia for thirteen years,
• 47:09
Speaker 20: and when people need help, we help. We help our neighbors.
• 47:13
Speaker 20: Just you know, when we had those devastating floods, you know,
• 47:15
Speaker 20: several years ago people were here to help us, so
• 47:19
Speaker 20: you know, it's our time now. But all of like
• 47:21
Speaker 20: I said, all of those locations, you know, they're going
• 47:23
Speaker 20: to donate fifteen percent of their sales on Saturday on Saturday,
• 47:27
Speaker 20: all day Saturday at all these restaurants for bars to
• 47:31
Speaker 20: go to. Two organizations in that area, one being Mercy Chefs.
• 47:37
Speaker 20: And Mercy Chefs is a nonprofit base out of Portsmouth, Virginia,
• 47:43
Speaker 20: and they go and set up these mobile kitchens and
• 47:46
Speaker 20: provide restaurant quality meals for up to twenty thousand people
• 47:51
Speaker 20: a day. And that's the victims, your first responders, your volunteers,
• 47:55
Speaker 20: those people out there on the ground, and of course
• 47:58
Speaker 20: you know again the ones that you know have been
• 48:00
Speaker 20: displaced in shelters. But they're gonna feed up to twenty
• 48:02
Speaker 20: thousand people every day and they're there long term, so
• 48:07
Speaker 20: the money is going to go to them. You can
• 48:09
Speaker 20: go to Mercychefs dot com. There's a donation link if
• 48:12
Speaker 20: you if you can't go dine out in downtown Charleston
• 48:15
Speaker 20: on Saturday, it doesn't take but two seconds to log
• 48:18
Speaker 20: on and check out what they do on a daily
• 48:21
Speaker 20: basis and donate to them. Another important organization. It's a
• 48:28
Speaker 20: Brother Wolf Animal Rescue that is an animal shelter in Ashville.
• 48:34
Speaker 20: They lost one hundred percent of their physical assets one
• 48:38
Speaker 20: hundred percent. They have nothing. The buildings are destroyed. Fortunately,
• 48:44
Speaker 20: I am happy to report all of the animals were
• 48:47
Speaker 20: evacuated prior to the storm, so no animals were lost.
• 48:50
Speaker 3: But that was gonna be because people that know me. No,
• 48:52
  Speaker 3: I really, I don't really don't like people that much,
• 48:54
Speaker 3: but but I love animals. And I was about to
• 48:57
Speaker 3: say if you say that these animals, I mean, it's
• 49:00
Speaker 3: enough anyway, But with the animals were saved and.
• 49:02
Speaker 20: All the animals were saved. With that, and you can
• 49:04
Speaker 20: go to bwa R dot com that stands for Brotherwolf
• 49:08
Speaker 20: Animal Rescue. There is a donation link there. They're trying
• 49:12
Speaker 20: to do random updates as they can, but again there's limited,
• 49:17
Speaker 20: limited internet and Wi Fi. I mean, you see the
• 49:21
Speaker 20: pictures people people had to leave some other animals behind,
• 49:24
Speaker 20: and you knew the flood waters were up to the
• 49:26
Speaker 20: middle of their bodies, and it's just it's heartbreaking. And
• 49:29
Speaker 20: like you said, you don't like people, No, I mean,
• 49:34
Speaker 20: I'm gonna We're an abbot and I'm an Abbot animal lover,
• 49:36
  Speaker 20: so a.
• 49:37
Speaker 3: Strategic for the for people that lost I mean obviously
• 49:40
Speaker 3: lost lives, but also that lost everything. But they've worked
• 49:42
Speaker 3: and it's something that we may not know about hurricanes
• 49:45
Speaker 3: here in West Virginia, but we do know about flooding.
• 49:48
Speaker 3: Every couple of years, it seems like we get something
• 49:51
Speaker 3: in some part of the state.
• 49:52
Speaker 5: If you think about it.
• 49:52
Speaker 21: You know, our big flood happening happened in twenty sixteen.
• 49:55
  Speaker 5: We're still recovering.
• 49:56
Speaker 21: I just went to the grand opening of Clinden And
• 49:59
Speaker 21: Elementary School before the school year started, so.
• 50:01
  Speaker 8: Eight years later.
• 50:02
Speaker 5: So we know that this is going to be a
• 50:03
  Speaker 5: long process.
• 50:04
Speaker 21: But to get people, you know, off the ground and
• 50:07
Speaker 21: to get started there's it's such a daunting task and
• 50:10
Speaker 21: I think you look at it and you feel a
• 50:11
Speaker 21: little bit hopeless. But I think everyone just wants to
• 50:14
Speaker 21: help in some way.
• 50:16
Speaker 3: And I think by doing this interview, I think that's
• 50:18
Speaker 3: because most of the businesses downtown are listening, so that
• 50:20
Speaker 3: means that others are going to want to get involved,
• 50:22
Speaker 3: maybe even some that aren't necessarily restaurants. I mean, everybody
• 50:25
  Speaker 3: could get.
• 50:25
Speaker 20: Involved on one come on, like you sure, absolutely really quickly. Yeah,
• 50:30
Speaker 20: so through Josh McGrath and Better Homes and Gardens real
• 50:34
Speaker 20: Estate Central, we've had a semi truck to fill. So
• 50:38
Speaker 20: all of their Better Home, Better Home and Garden real
• 50:41
  Speaker 20: Estate Central locations.
• 50:42
Speaker 3: That's hard to say, that's hard to say say all
• 50:44
  Speaker 3: Josh's places.
• 50:45
Speaker 20: All Josh's places are going to be donated or they're
• 50:48
Speaker 20: accepting cash donations. They're also accepting you know, bottled water,
• 50:52
Speaker 20: nonperishable items, you know, cleaning supplies, things of that nature
• 50:57
Speaker 20: to fill that semi well. We've all so I said,
• 51:00
Speaker 20: Black Sheep has space. We'll be collecting supplies. If you
• 51:05
Speaker 20: would like to donate cash, you're more than a welcome
• 51:08
Speaker 20: to you. I would rather have the supplies there to
• 51:10
Speaker 20: fill that in my truck, or like I said, just
• 51:13
Speaker 20: make a donation to one of those two organizations.
• 51:15
Speaker 3: Let's talk about the restaurants again that are involved, the
• 51:18
Speaker 3: ones as of now, as of nine to fifty eight
• 51:20
Speaker 3: this morning, that are involved.
• 51:21
Speaker 20: As a nine to fifty eight this morning, again, we've
• 51:23
Speaker 20: got five Street brewing, Black Sheep brew doing Bruce, We've
• 51:26
Speaker 20: got Issuvon, we have DT Prime of Delphia Sports Bar
• 51:30
Speaker 20: and Grill Haill House and like the list is going
• 51:34
  Speaker 20: to grow.
• 51:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to grow. And again if you dine
• 51:36
Speaker 3: in those places anytime on Saturday, and I will say this,
• 51:40
Speaker 3: I know there's a lot of events going on in
• 51:42
Speaker 3: the area this weekend. I'm going to be Saturday afternoon
• 51:44
Speaker 3: at the fall Y'all Chili contest in saying all the
• 51:47
Speaker 3: rough gig, I have to go judge Chili. Thank you
• 51:50
Speaker 3: Steve Animal for that. But afterwards, if you're going out
• 51:54
Speaker 3: to any of these events are going on the area
• 51:55
Speaker 3: and there are a ton make your way downtown at
• 51:57
Speaker 3: some point because this is going to be going on
• 51:59
Speaker 3: all day. The weather is going to be fantastic, they
• 52:01
Speaker 3: tell us on Saturday. Not too hot, not no rain
• 52:04
Speaker 3: or anything like that. So get downtown and patronize these businesses.
• 52:08
Speaker 3: As you mentioned all those guys, I appreciate you being here.
• 52:11
Speaker 3: Give us the two organizations again and the websites as
• 52:14
  Speaker 3: we close.
• 52:14
Speaker 20: Kevin Mercy Chefs that's Mercy Mercychefs dot com. And then
• 52:19
Speaker 20: we've got Brother Wolf Animal Rescue which is bwa R
• 52:23
Speaker 20: dot com. If you are a local restaurant or business
• 52:26
Speaker 20: that you want to be added to this list, please
• 52:28
Speaker 20: email me at k dot Madison at Downtown CWV dot Com.
• 52:33
Speaker 3: All right, Kelly and Kevin the KK Show. I appreciate
• 52:36
Speaker 3: you being here, guys, thanks a lot. It's kind a
• 52:37
Speaker 3: short notice to get you in here. What we got
